This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clivert Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career
in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not
only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
So let's get to it.
Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I put on 10.
I was having trouble
stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app,

Hey, what's good, y'all?
You're listening to Learn the Hard Way
with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
This space is about black men's experiences,
having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere,
but you're having them with a licensed professional
who knows what he's doing.
How many men carry a suit or armor?
It signals to the world that you're not to be played with.
And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to.
Listen to learn the hard way on the IHard radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Thanks for listening to The HARD podcast.
Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.
Find your local station for the Hurt at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the IHartRadio app by searching Herd.
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Oh, here we go.
All this chatter, all this talk, all those arguments.
It is Draft Day in America, live in Los Angeles.
It's the herd.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, Fox Sports Radio, I Heart Radio, and FS1,
it doesn't matter if you're an Eagles fan, a Dolphins fan, a Cowboy fan,
a Packer fan, a Bear fan, a Seahawk fan, or a Carlin.
larger fan. Everybody gets to open a Christmas present tonight, baby. Well, at least over the weekend.
Not everybody has it tonight. There's the Houston Texans. I'm not sure if they have any draft
picks for the next eight years other than Houston. This is so good. It's a little bit of hope.
It's optimism. Everybody feels good. So much negativity in the world, even in sports.
This weekend, everybody wins. Everybody gets presents. Everybody feels good about themselves. Everybody's
I love people you talk draft all the time. It's fun. It's optimism. It's hope. It's great. Joy Taylor is
joining me. I love tonight. It's the best. And it's life-changing for a bunch of families and young men all over the country.
Listen, you're going to watch kids tonight. The whole life changes. Yeah. Realize their dream.
The families who drove them to practices and paid for the extra protein shakes and went to all the games and froze and sat in the rain.
Like, it's a very come-together moment for everybody.
So I want to talk about this.
So here we go.
Oh, boy.
First report.
A reporter in Boston, Patriots working a new contract with Jimmy G.
I made calls.
I couldn't get it confirmed.
Second report, Patriots talked to the Atlanta Falcons.
They have the number four pick about trading up.
Now, Atlanta's trying to drive a hard bargain.
Apparently they didn't make a deal.
My favorite line in this story, though, is
making a trade up that big would be out of character for Bill Belichick,
who's generally preferred trading down, acquiring additional draft picks,
rather than mortgaging the future with a blockbuster trade up.
It is funny when Tom Brady leaves New England's now doing a lot of things out of character,
like losing seasons, spending a fortune on free agency,
and now potentially mortgaging the future.
proving once again you can have the best coach in the world, the best owner arguably in the world,
the best offensive coordinator, the best system, the best offensive line coach,
and your star quarterback leaves, and you're a big nothing burger and you're flailing.
I mean, look at New Orleans.
Last four years, four division titles, great GM, great coach, excellent owner.
Fox bet has the Patriots and the Saints at nine and a half wins.
That's with an additional game.
They're average.
Would you be shocked in the next four or five years if the Saints puttered around and made the playoffs once?
Would you be shocked if New England puttered around for the next four and five years and made the playoffs once?
You can't be.
So we got two New England narratives right now this morning in America.
One story, they go Garapolo.
Proven, been there, knows the system, feels safe.
Or you take a big swing.
and you go and trade a bunch of picks, first rounders,
for a Trey Lance, that would be my pick, or Justin Fields.
Both fine.
The way I look at it, you got to go for it.
This is a very, very unique year.
We have four quarterbacks.
I don't count Mack Jones ever being a first round pick.
We have four quarterbacks in any year could be the number one pick.
Trevor Lawrence will be the number one pick.
He doesn't exist.
It's probably Zach Wilson, because he has the most.
armed talent, they say.
Justin Fields was considered the number two pick several months ago, so you know he could go
in some drafts as a number one pick.
And Trey Lance, if we don't have a pandemic, and Trey Lance actually plays 12 games,
well, Carson Wentz from his school at number two.
Why couldn't he go number two or number one?
So I don't think Mack Jones is a number one talent.
But I think four guys could be.
You're not going to have this again.
I mean, usually we have one really.
good quarterback, maybe two.
We don't have four.
To me, New England's got to go for it.
And what New England does?
Two reports today. Garapolo,
they're working on a deal or
Trey Lance, Justin Fields.
What New England does
tells you a lot about how Bill
Belichick almost 70 thinks.
If you go Garapolo,
it means we won't stink.
It's safe. He knows this system.
But this is a dude
that can't get out of September.
healthy. I mean, Justin Fields almost got torn in half in a college bowl game this year.
He came back and played the second half. Garoppolo can't get out of September,
and now we've added a game to the schedule. You think Garoppolo's going to last 17?
Really? In the toughest division in football. All those teams are good. I mean, now Arizona's got
JJ Watt and Chandler Jones, and Seattle kept Dunlap. And, you know, we all kind of
to know that, you know, the Rams have Aaron Donald, and these are some of the best defensive
players up front in the league.
So what is New England?
If you go Garapolo, it's telling me they just are tired of being humiliated by Brady.
They're tired of it.
They just don't want to stink.
You can make an argument.
Defense, Belichick will be viable.
But you don't have a Josh Allen.
You don't have a Justin Herber.
You don't have a Patrick Mahomes.
You don't have Lamar Jackson.
or you take the big swing.
And that tells me, Belichick's sticking around a while.
Belichick is all in on a rebuild.
Belichick's going to be patient.
Belichick is not retiring soon and going golfing in Jupiter, Florida.
What New England does will tell me a lot about where they're going.
Because if you look around right now in the NFL, and I like Jimmy Garoppolo,
I'm a much bigger fan of Garoppolo than almost all of you.
he's the 14th best quarterback in the league 15th maybe 12th but with all that injury stuff
nobody in their right mind thinks you're getting three years 17 games minimum per year with
jimmy garoppolo it's going to tell us about bellichick how close is he to retirement
does he want to rebuild does he want to nurture does he understand he can't win because you get
tray lance you're not going to play for a year and it may be a little rocky in year two
same with Justin Fields.
So I think New England is going to tell us a lot about Belichick's future,
how all in, how committed to Super Bowl's long term,
because Garapolo, who I like, feels really safe,
but no reasonable person can think he's going to last 17 games minimum.
Forget playoff games, three straight years.
All right, so now with a draft, once an NFL season starts,
I'll be honest, we talk about eight to 12 teams.
In college football, we talk about five.
I don't spend a lot of time talking crappy teams.
But the NFL draft is different.
Every year for about six to eight weeks before the draft, all sportscasters talk crappy football teams because they always have the best draft picks.
So we're going to talk Jets and Jags, Cleveland.
Philadelphia is a mess.
They may move up.
I mean, Cleveland essentially, the last 20 years, the only time we talked about them was the drafts, see how badly they'd screw it up.
So I just want to talk about one really good football team for the next three minutes
because I think their draft is fascinating and that's the Green Bay Packers.
So the Green Bay Packers are really good.
They have a top two, three quarterback in the world, top ten probably ever.
The Green Bay Packers played the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to get to the Super Bowl.
And it was close.
In fact, when the game was over, we weren't talking about this team's way.
better than that team. We were talking about
a coaching decision.
So Green Bay was close to getting to the Super Bowl.
The coaching decision
is what we talked about. We didn't talk about,
it wasn't like the Super Bowl where Kansas City
was overwhelmed. It was
that coaching decision.
And Green Bay has 10 picks.
So Green Bay is the only excellent
team in the NFL tonight with 10 picks. Dallas has
10, they're not excellent. They got 10.
two fours, two fives, two sixes.
I am a believer, and I've said this for years, I am a big believer in moving down in the draft.
In fact, I think you can make arguments that if you never had a first round pick,
if you had your quarterback, if you had a good quarterback, don't worry about first round
picks.
Have two seconds, two thirds.
You can pay for your quarterback.
But Green Bay is different.
Green Bay is really good.
Green Bay's got ten picks, and they've got like two and a half.
Half holes. They need a corner. We saw that against Tampa Bay right before half. They definitely
need another receiver, although they've got a superstar one and very nice complimentary pieces.
But they need a, they need a dog, they need a two, and they need a corner. And then I like their
linebackers, but if one became available late first round, I'd go for it and I'd take that.
I don't think they necessarily have to move up in the first round, because I do think
they could solve their linebacker issue where they're at now.
But when the first round's over, tonight's over,
they're going to have nine picks and two holes.
Would anybody criticize them?
Remember, last year, their first round pick was a guy that wasn't going to play
and ticked off Aaron Rogers.
I think they owe Aaron Rogers and themselves hyper-aggressive actions
probably after tonight.
I do think they can land a really good linebacker,
and they're not desperate at linebacker.
Hell, they're not desperate at wide receiver or corner,
but I think they can stay where they're at tonight
and get a really nice linebacker.
But by tomorrow,
I'm giving up some of those picks
to get a top corner and to get a top wide receiver.
Because this is rare ground.
This almost feels like New England for 20 years.
They're good.
They're playing in conference championships.
They don't have a ton of holes and they got 10, 11 picks.
That's rare.
That's a well-run organization.
We're good.
We don't have holes and a ton of picks.
And by the way, Bill Belichick, more than anybody in the league since he took the job in New England, has moved on draft day.
He's made 82 draft trades.
Not always up, not always down.
But Bill Belichick is hyperactive.
Got a good team, got a lot of picks.
He knows what he wants.
And he goes, solves as one or two holes.
I think Green Bay is really interesting.
And I don't think they have to make a big hyper-aggressive move in round one.
But after that, they owe it to Aaron.
They owe it to themselves.
You need a corner and you need a receiver.
Trade all your picks to get them.
This team is too good.
Ten picks.
There's not 10 guys that can make this roster.
Well, they lost their center to their team.
Chargers. They have a guard. They drafted a couple years ago, developed. He'll move over.
They're fine. David Boktiari comes back, left tackle. They could maybe take, you know,
an offensive line. It's not a need. It's a top five offensive line. Even losing their
center to the Chargers, it's still a top five offensive line. So this is Patriots territory.
Good, no holes, a lot of picks. And New England moved up to get people. And I think,
I think green, we all talk about crap leading up to the draft.
I'm fascinated Monday what Green Bay looks like because I don't think they're that far away.
Remember the Tampa Bay Buccaneer game.
It was not a route.
It was one blown coverage before half and a tenuous coaching decision.
Otherwise, they're in the Super Bowl.
Otherwise, they're in, and they're facing a Kansas City team missing their left tackle.
All right, so we've got, all right.
Shepty Shepter's got something on Jimmy Garoppolo.
I will address that next.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

I'm talking. Trip Fontaine,
Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're
in the pursuit of the thing, we
get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we
are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it. And we don't
know when we've done enough. Because people
scoreboard watch. Life becomes about
wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because
you're afraid? Because that's two different
intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Jay Glazer in about 10 minutes.
So Adam Schaefter came out, said multiple teams are expected to contact the Niners
today inquiring about.
Jimmy Garoppolo. As of this morning, the chances of him being traded, remote. Let's keep our
eye on it. So I'm going to double down on something I said yesterday. Just keep Garoppolo.
Play him until he gets hurt. Even if you love Mack Jones, would you really like him week one against
the Seahawks? Really? Week one against Aaron Donald? Week one against Kyler Murray and that
pass rush in Arizona? You gave up nothing for Jimmy Garoppel. Think about this. Let's put it in
context. You gave up a second round pick for Jimmy Garapolo. That's what New England gave up for
Mohamed Sunu and Miami gave up for Josh Rosen. Sometimes you whiff totally. But San Francisco
didn't even whiff. They were 2 and 14 the year before they got Garapolo. Three years later,
they're winning their division and going to the Super Bowl. Jimmy Garapolo has completely
outperformed his trade compensation. You've already gotten so much. You've already gotten so,
much more out of him than anybody gets for a second round pick. Do you have to win another trade?
Keep him around until he gets hurt. Play him until he gets hurt, which, you know, is week three
the preseason maybe, but nonetheless, you really feel good if you love Mack Jones. He's ready
to play now. Really? Is he ready to beat Seattle now in Seattle? No. Is he ready to beat the Rams now
and Matt Stafford and Sean McVeigh? No. If you like Mac Jones, you'd even acknowledge
He's probably better in a year than now.
Like, I always feel this with grills.
I've owned like three grills in my life.
I grill a lot.
I keep in 10 years.
You pay like a thousand bucks.
I mean, you can pay $400.
I pay about it.
I don't go to the top end.
I don't go bottom.
I go somewhere in the middle,
$900 for a grill.
It used to be $600.
Now it's about $9.50 for a grill.
I use it for 10 years.
I get so much enjoyment out of a grill.
I mean, when I think of grills,
I think of family and kids and burgers and hot dogs.
and pork chops.
So when my grill after 10 years is done, I don't try to resell it.
I already won.
I'm going to resell it to a neighbor for 40 bucks.
I just give it to a neighbor if he wants it.
I give it to a kid.
One of the kids of my family, college kids, just take the thing.
Like New England or San Francisco, they won the deal.
Second round pick.
That's what Miami got for Josh Rosen.
A second round pick he takes you the Super Bowl.
Just keep them around.
keep him around and play him until he runs out of gas or gets hurt.
But this idea you got to move him, even if you loved Mac Jones.
He ain't ready to go to Seattle or go against Matt Stafford and Kyler Murray and win.
None of these guys, Trevor Lawrence isn't.
None of these guys are.
You won the trade.
You don't have to win it again.
Keep him around until the car runs out of gas.
The Garoppolo van runs out of gas.
And then he's either, you know, if he gets hurt again, by the way, he's got no value.
Keep him as a backup.
He'd be one of the top three backups in the league.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, even though the draft seems to start with Atlanta at four, the 49ers are kind of the talk of the drafts right now.
They've obviously made a big move up to jump to number three, but the initial talk was Mack Jones,
and now they're impressed with Trey Lance.
So even up until this past weekend,
they reportedly did not know who they were going to take.
So they have been on the fence for quite a while.
Now, you know, I believe they're taking Mac Jones
and they're covering their butt,
just saying we like all these other guys.
So if Trey Lance goes to the Patriots and crushes,
they can say years later,
hey, we loved him.
We thought he was great,
but it was, we needed a guy to, you know, play.
I don't know how to, like, if that helps them or hurts them
to say that they were on the fence.
Like if Traylands ends up being great and they were like, well, you weren't sure and you went with Mac and he doesn't end up being great, does it help to just say you were locked in on Mac?
I don't know.
Let me ask you this.
What would you get for Garapolo on the market with his injury history?
I don't know, but Teddy Bridgewater only got a six.
So if San Francisco, I don't know the answer to this, but let's say you could get a four for Garapolo.
I'm totally guessing because if his injury history, you're not getting a first.
And I don't know if you get a second.
What is the value?
The only value to trade Garapolo as far as I can tell is
it allows you to say, well, we traded Garapolo, we love to pick,
we had to get the quarterback ready to play now.
I think that if you're starting new, if you want to give your quarterback,
that you want to make him the guy, then I think there's value of moving off of Jimmy
Garapolo.
I think there are two different ways of thinking about rookie quarterbacks.
I happen to be in the camp of get out there.
Go make your mistakes.
Go learn how to play the game.
Throw them to the wolves and see what you got.
That's my mentality on rookie quarterbacks.
I know a lot of people feel like you got to go the Alex Smith, Patrick Mahomes route,
and kind of ease them in and teach them how to be pros
and, you know, give them that extra time to develop into the NFL body
and the NFL training and the NFL schedule.
I'm in the camp of the first,
but I also think that the value of just putting the,
burden of the franchise on your rookie quarterback is also you get to see what you have.
You have a full evaluation.
I didn't like what they did with Tua.
And in comparison, Josh Allen got those three years to develop into what he is now.
So yes, you're probably going to struggle initially.
But I would say keeping Jimmy Garoppolo is that sort of safety net where, you know,
okay, you took this rookie quarterback.
He's not quite ready.
But I just think it's better to just let him have the franchise.
Because if Jimmy's there, it's still going to feel.
like it's Jimmy's team and Jimmy has a lot of supporters in the locker room. Yeah, but I guess what?
If again, let's remember, this is the best division in football and arguably the best coached division
in football. Right. Boy, you could be, you could look up week seven, be two and five with Mac Jones,
and you've lost the locker room. But you can't, you know that Jimmy's not the future.
Like even if, even if I'm talking about for this year, like everyone knows,
Jimmy is unreliable physically.
So everyone in the locker room knows that too.
So if you're going back and forth between a rookie quarterback and Jimmy G,
it starts to, I think it just causes more division.
Like at least with a rookie quarterback, they know, okay, he's got to develop.
Like we got it.
We have some time with him.
You're not going to expect him to go out this year, win rookie of the year and take you to a
Super Bowl.
Like that's not the expectations when you get a rookie quarterback.
He's expected to struggle a little bit.
Yeah.
So I don't know.
I think it depends on how they're looking at the next three.
years for the franchise. So the Broncos sent a six-round pick to the Panthers in exchange for
Teddy Bridgewater yesterday with him and Drew Locke on the roster. They don't have a glaring need
at quarterback anymore. But the trade reportedly does not remove Denver from the quarterback
market tonight. I think we all know that means, well, we might. So if you want to trade up,
you might want to do that. So taking a rookie quarterback with the ninth is still a possibility,
but they are probably just
jangling it as a trade.
Denver has two quarterbacks,
but I do believe they could take another one
simply because of this.
Bridgewater's a Band-Aid
and they've lost confidence in Locke.
And by the way,
in a division with Patrick Mahones and Justin Herbert,
you can't have a BB gun.
No, I think if Tray Lance or Justin Fields
were to fall to nine,
I think they would take...
But Carolina's different.
There's a lot of people in that building
that see Darnel is a big, dynamic
playmaking course.
I don't see the value of threatening him with a draft pick.
Like Carolina, to me, this feels like a decoy.
Whereas with Denver, even though they have two quarterbacks,
in the division with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert,
and by the way, and Derek Carr,
Bridgewater and Drew Locke do not feel like the future.
And you're really not paying a lot of money for any of them.
So you could make it work.
So Trevor Lawrence caused some controversy when he said
he didn't play football with a chip on his shoulder.
It's got everybody that loves cliches
all riled up.
But he's defending his opinion once again,
adding that he doesn't care about what other people think.
He did an interview with time,
and he said, it's just kind of the way things are now.
It's just what can people find to get mad about to criticize?
If people still want to have an opinion on the way I think and the way I live,
I don't really care.
No matter what you say, there's always going to be something.
Yeah, that's a very healthy way to look at it.
There's a lot of people that are on the internet just a troll.
That's like 30% of the internet.
That's what they do.
It's a very strange lifestyle and I'll never understand it.
But I will say, and I agree with him.
I don't think, I think when it comes to sports, we have this idea and it's a very like old school mentality that you have to like live and breathe and die with whatever your sport is.
And the reality is very few people on earth live their life that way, no matter what their profession is.
Remember years ago, LeBron got heat for something that was brutally honest and he got heat for it?
LeBron said like five or six years ago, he came out and he said, listen, for all you people
criticizing me, I got a better life. What you do with your life is your time. But I won. And he got
heat. And Trevor Lawrence is saying the same thing. I'm good. It's on you. And people push back
on LeBron. And there's no reason to. I totally supported it. It's okay to admit I'm successful. I got a
great life. If you're a troll, you're a loser. Because we all know that's true. So for Trevor
Lawrence, he's largely doing a LeBron.
I'm good here.
If you wake up angry on
Twitter, that is not my problem.
That's what LeBron said and got heat for it.
So I'm going to support successful
people who acknowledge,
yeah, I'm not going to be falsely humble.
I'm really good here.
Some people wake up angry.
I'm not one of them.
Go play amongst yourself.
I'll put Twitter filters on.
I agree with his mentality.
I agree that it's healthier to not go
through life with a burning rage
of anger. Like that's why you and I spend a lot of time in therapy. Probably. Like that's for us to deal
with and not projected onto other people. If you can go through life working and succeeding without
that kind of anxiety, that's a great thing. I will say in contrast, though, you're now in the
NFL and you're the starting quarterback and you're the number one overall pick. So everything you say
is going to be picked apart. Whether it's good or bad or indifferent, it doesn't matter. Like,
that's the world to his point that we live in. So people are always going to find a way to criticize what
you say, which is why quarterback speak is so valuable. Yes, that's right. Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Ly News. Kevin Burkart, Jay Glazer,
LaVar Arrington, Bucky, Brooks tonight on Fox Sports Radio Draft Night Live. Jay Glazer, Fox Sports
Insider is now going to join us live. It's one of my favorite nights of the year. I like it. It's hope.
It's optimism. You know, there's so much negativity in the world. The draft to me always feels so
hopeful, so optimistic.
You change lives. I love draft
night. By the way, why did
you just introduce us like someone
round your dog over? You're like,
Jay Glazer, Kevin Burkhard,
LaVarrafing. Can we have a little
love? I mean, come on man, it's draft day.
Okay.
Draft Night Live on Fox Sports
Radio. So
the number, so I have a theory on this.
By the way, by the way, look at my
notes. This is like cramming and
like college and height. I mean, here's
my notes. Here's my notes for Joel Klatt.
Like, man, it's like
the draft is great when you have ADD
because you got so much stuff to do, but the draft's bad
when you have ADD because you don't remember
they have to crap you right now.
Do we know whether or not you
know who the Niners are picking?
Do you believe they know
who they're picking at three? You do.
So here's what happened. On Friday,
John Lynch, Kyle Shanhan, they got their guy.
But they said, let's go home and sleep
on it. Let's go make sure.
And let's see on Monday if we're just
is convicted. They came on Monday. We're like, we're convicted. That's our guy. So yeah,
they've known who their guy's going to be since last Friday, probably before that also.
But you know what happens? This is paralysis by overanalysis. Like I had, look, probably,
this whole time Patrick Sutton has been one of the cleanest, man, most reliable guys you can
have in this draft, right? And then the guy who's probably shot the most in the last week is
J.C. Horn, who's the corner from South Carolina. But what's happened,
You want to talk about paralysis and finalysis.
It was clear cut, Tertan's the number one corner for all these weeks.
Now all of a sudden, guys start going, man, he's so clean, he's so perfect.
Maybe he's hit his ceiling where a guy like J.C. Horn has more room to grow.
I mean, think of how backwards that is.
If somebody could be too perfect and too clean, right, for only one of the 52 weeks of the year.
Yeah.
No, it's real.
I remember Andrew Luck before he got drafted, there was all the, you know, his arm's not
that great. And I'm like, it doesn't have to be Lway. It's good enough. He's going to be fine.
So let's talk about Gropolo. And I've said this. Listen, man, they gave a second round pick
for him, Jay. He's been more than worth the compensation. Couldn't I just make an argument?
Whatever quarterback you take, just keep Jimmy around, maybe to the trading deadline. Even if you love
Mac Jones, Jay, opens up against Seattle and Pete Carroll. He's going to be a little overwhelmed,
Couldn't you argue you keep Garoppolo around at least until the trading deadline instead of rushing to trade him?
When I talked to them yesterday, they were pretty sure that Jimmy'd still be on the team.
But also, but it's interesting what happens.
Because you hear New England so much New England, New England with Jimmy Garapolo.
And when do we ever really know what New England's going to do?
So it's almost like New England's trying to manufacture it to put pressure on.
on the 49ers to trade him over to the Patriots.
It's just, again, this is the time of year.
It's nonstop subterfuge.
You know, Jay, listen, I like both Tray Lance and Justin Fields.
I think they're terrific kids.
I think they're big, fast, big arm.
I like them both.
I don't feel like nitpicking them.
If I asked you, Jay, and you don't have to tell me the people,
but if I said, if you ask 10 GMs, because I hear various stories,
is Trey Lance or Justin Fields in this moment, as we pick them all apart,
which one has more GMs that like them today?
Probably Trey Lance.
Okay.
I would think.
But I agree with you.
I love both those guys.
Probably over Mac.
Man, I really like both those guys.
I just think the upside of what they could do.
and, you know, you can't, certainly can't question Ohio State's toughness.
Oh, my God, right?
And, you know, he's the type of guy.
He's so athletic that he could use his legs to, to obviously extend plays,
but he used them to extend plays to keep, you know, to keep getting after in the passing game,
which a lot of these quarterbacks don't do these days.
Once they see it opening, they tuck it and they go.
Right.
So he's a legit dual threat.
The one thing about Trey Lance, I mean, he is, you know, I've asked a couple of guys.
the guys never run a two-minute drill.
So I said, how do you find out how he is in adversity?
Because he's never run a two-minute drill.
And they said, well, you've got to ask him other things.
Ask him about life, things like that.
And they just love, they fell in love with the kids' makeup.
And then what his upside is also.
I think both these guys are, man, they're really,
if you get them around the right people, they could do a lot of damage.
Yep, that's what I feel.
Tell me where they land on Monday or by tomorrow.
And then I feel, I can tell you how they'll do,
but I think they're both unbelievable candidates.
Now, it is interesting.
There were stories, Jay, and I am a believer that Atlanta doesn't need a quarterback.
I kind of feel like Matt Ryan right now is the one thing I do trust.
And I do think with Arthur Smith, I think this is going to work.
It's going to be nice.
I like their old line.
I like the receivers.
So I get the Kyle Pitts thing.
But there have been stories that the GM wants a quarterback and the coach.
He wants Kyle Pitts.
So you tell me the truth.
What are you hearing?
They've been on the same page here.
They've been on the same page.
But I called one of the other day, and I said, I called somebody in the Falcons.
I said, if you don't take Kyle Pitts, I'm going to low leg kick you.
I mean, this guy is so ridiculous.
There's two, so here's the one thing that people agree on in the draft.
There's two generational talents in this draft.
Two, one is Trevor Lawrence and one is that guy, Kyle Pitts.
And, you know, I talked to, who is the coach yesterday?
Talk to the head coach yesterday.
And I said, tell me about, you know, what's your thought on Kyle Pitts?
and he said, if he came out as a receiver,
he might be the number one receiver in this draft,
the top X in this draft.
He's obviously the top tight end,
but he said he's not a tight end,
and he's not a receiver.
He said, what do you mean?
He said, he's a weapon.
He's just different.
He's a mismatch problem.
I asked one head coach,
who's got a great corner on his team.
I said, could you put that guy on him one-on-one?
He said, I could, but I wouldn't feel good about it.
He presents that kind of problem.
Almost like Calvin Johnson playing tight-end,
He's like, yeah, he's like Calvin playing in China.
He's just such a mismatch.
And there's so many things you could do with him.
I think Atlanta, man, they can't pass up on him.
Yeah, no, I do think, and that's my feeling is I think a line for Atlanta is actually pretty good.
I think their receivers are interesting.
Matt's going to get upgraded with an offensive coach.
Kyle Pitts.
Yeah.
That is a great, great offense.
Now, a team that's good.
And you can get a quarterback in the second round here also.
Yeah.
Now, Jay, a team that I can't quite get my arms around.
I love Brian Flores.
They won 10 games last year with two in Ryan Fitzpatrick.
I love where they're going, defense special teams.
But they have upgraded their wide receiving core in free agency.
Okay.
And at number six, if Cincinnati takes Jamar Chase, and I'm sure Joe Burrow is lobbying hard for that,
does Miami keep rebuilding the O-line receiver?
Do you have a feeling on Miami at all?
Yeah, I think they go whichever one Cincinnati.
doesn't take.
Okay.
Cincinnati has Sewell and even Slater's kind of in the mix, but really Sewell and Chase and whichever
one they don't go, then they're sitting right there at Miami.
But listen, I love the receivers in this draft.
I love both Alabama guys.
Obviously Chase, but I'm a huge Devont of Smith got huge.
I mean, just how his teammates react to him.
He's one of those guys.
He's going to come in the NFL.
And look, for all the college kids out there, whatever you did in college, okay?
it's not good enough for this level.
You got to do more.
You got to figure out.
You have to evolve.
A lot of college guys come into the league like, I'm good.
What I did in college is going to work here.
It's just not how it is.
You got to figure out of ways to elevate.
And that's why we hear about people's work ethic on this level and how they elevate.
A guy like Devontas Smith, he'll work that hard on this next level.
So I love him.
So I think Miami's sitting good where they have both those receivers.
They'll have, you know, one of the two tackles to choose from.
those are the positions that they've got to go for.
Finally, is there a team, and I don't know your confidence level,
I kind of feel like New England's going to move up, but I don't have the sourcing you do.
Is there a team, do you think, and by the way, it could be Washington.
I'm not saying top ten.
The Saints are trying to get in the top.
That's what I heard last night.
By the way, I heard that.
The Saints are trying to get in top.
Yep, that's what I heard last night.
So the saints of the team you think is going to move up.
I don't know, because here's a thing.
I don't, man, they're saying.
that you drop off after a certain number.
You know, there's like, when you look at them,
there's three receivers who are in that,
you know, bam, after that is a little drop off.
There's two corners after that, bam, there's a drop-up.
There's only a couple, probably three offensive alignment.
After that, there's a drop-up.
So I don't know, you know, how much a team would want to drop all the way down.
If I'm, like, maybe a team like Miami, who we've seen do this already,
but, man, you know, we already know the trade they made for, to get there.
I don't know how many going to want to trade all the way down.
The one thing I will say is this is the draft that you want to pick in the second and third round for.
This is just a different draft, man.
It's, you know, you have guys.
You didn't have a combine.
You didn't have a season for a lot of guys last year to look at in a league where they get so freaked out when they don't have enough information.
There certainly hasn't been as much information this year or last year.
And what I say here is that, look, there's guys who played two years ago, let's say 240 pounds.
now they're 270, 275, you don't have their bodies work at 275, right?
And I get why a lot of these kids opt it out.
I totally get that and completely understand.
But it's hard to say, okay, well, we really love this kid at 240, 275.
He looks like he's going to be 290.
You only really have a pro day to go off of.
So it's just a different draft.
By the way, I not only heard New Orleans wants to move up,
I heard they want to move up to take a corner, is what I was told.
That's what I'm looking for defensive help, yeah.
All right. Jay Glazer, good stuff, buddy. Tonight,
draft night live, Fox Sports Radio, 8 Eastern, Jay, Bucky Brooks, LeVarrenton, Kevin Burkart,
big energy. Good stuff. That is good stuff. By the way, it's interesting. I heard
yesterday a scout I trust implicitly said, everybody likes Penae Soule, but he is not as generational
as Trevor Lawrence or Kyle Pitts. He is very,
Very good.
But to Jay's point, they like Paneuil.
But he said, slow down on the, we're not sure there's a big gap between him and Slater.
And I've made that mistake.
I think he looks like an all-time left tackle.
But I was told last night by a scout who's been great.
He said he's not Jonathan Ogden.
Don't go.
He's not Anthony Munoz.
He's not Jonathan Ogden.
He's really good.
But there's a difference.
Trevor and Kyle Pitts, that stuff doesn't come along once a decade.
That stuff is all-time stuff.
All right. Another rumor.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific.

Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.

Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you

Absolutely.

Story today, the Panthers
have officially picked up the fifth year option on DJ Moore.
He's a very underrated wide receiver,
DJ Moore, so he's sticking around a couple of years
for Sam Darnold to throw to.
The story continues, Adam Schaefter,
but have not done so yet on Sam Darnold,
leaving open the possibility of drafting a quarterback tonight.
Now, there's two teams, Denver and Carolina,
where there's a lot of talk, getting a quarterback.
Denver, I buy, Bridgewater and Drew Locke,
in a division with Justin Herbert, Derek Carr and Patrick Mahomes,
ain't good enough, brough, ain't good enough.
Sam Darnold in a division.
where the Saints don't know who's quarterback,
Matt Ryan's got 50-50 support in the room and Brady's old is good enough.
So I think a lot of this, Joy talked about it earlier,
I think Carolina feels like they're trying to create buzz
because they've only got, I think, like seven picks.
I think they'd like more and they have some needs.
But I don't like the idea of drafting a quarterback.
Why?
I think direction matters.
I think you're selling stuff to your locker room.
I really do believe this.
Dave Wonstat always says,
like you can lose games.
You can't lose locker rooms.
and I think you can sell after Teddy Bridgewater, sort of a non-athletic guy, you can sell Darnold.
You're going to bring Darnold in.
He's 6-4, runs well, big arm.
Players are going to look around and go, that's an alpha.
Sam's an easy guy to sell.
Players in New York loved him.
Hell, after all of his losses, the coach and the GM liked him.
Everybody likes Sam when you get him in the room.
You can sell him in the locker room.
So year one, Matt Rule, draft defense.
We got to solve the defense.
They did it.
Year two, acquire a more athletic playmaking quarterback.
That's the direction of the NFL and upgrade our O line.
That feels like the move.
Why throw a wrench in?
The other thing is, I want you to think about this for a second.
And I know Sam pretty well, what kind of human he is, what kind of duty is.
You don't have to pick up the fifth year option on Sam Donald.
You don't.
You don't.
That's a myth.
You bring him in.
You're not paying him anything this year.
you just let him play.
If he's bad, boom.
I don't think he will be.
And if he's good, he'll go to the free agent market.
Well, the truth is, Sam Darnold had such a horrific New York experience.
And frankly, he left USC.
Many thought he would stay because he didn't love the coaching there.
So if he goes to Carolina with Matt Ruhl and Joe Brady,
and he has weapons and Christian McCaffrey and they solved the O line,
I think Sam Darnold would give them a little bit of a discount in Carolina and stay.
I don't think he'd explore the market because he had the jets.
He knows the dreck of the NFL what it can be.
If he succeeds in Carolina, I don't think Sam would go get me out of here.
I think he'd be like, okay, finally, young, smart coaches, we got a bunch of picks, a great aggressive owner.
I think he would stay.
And if he's no good, then you'd get rid of him.
But Baker Mayfield's different.
Like Baker Mayfield's in a different situation with them.
They have a Super Bowl capable roster.
Carolina doesn't.
So to me, I think they could trade the picks, move down, get Sam more support.
But they're not to pick up Sam's option.
You don't have to.
I think he'd stay if you succeed.
And if he does it, you move on.
So, okay, I'm going to do my final mock draft.
This is it.
This is the last one.
This is it.
There's no limitation.
There's no limitation on this stuff.
final mock trap. This is it. Next.
