Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:01:06 A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,
Starting point is 00:01:24 creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. On the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:41 For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84's big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians,
Starting point is 00:01:54 and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. 84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for the herd at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the IHeartRadio app by searching Herd. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Sean Sharana has been a young NBA reporter growing, growing, growing,
Starting point is 00:02:40 breaking more stories than anybody on the beat for years and years. So whenever he's in town, he is a Chicago native, which, by the way, I was there two weeks ago. We have, I have an affinity for Chicago. Joy love Chicago, too. My wife spent time there. So any Chicago guy that wants on the show, we just, you bet. By the way, Loyola, what class? 2017.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Look how young he is. You just, how in Lord's name, four years ago, you're studying physics, and now you're breaking all the NBA stories. I don't know how much physics I was studying, man. God, you're a great story, man. So we got a bunch of stuff here. There's a story out on Anthony Davis of the Lakershams.
Starting point is 00:03:21 What's the very latest? Yes, the sources tell me Anthony Davis is unlikely to play in game five against the sons. That game is tomorrow night. So that's a quick turnaround, only one day off. He doesn't have the benefit that Chris Paul had. Chris Paul had an additional day off in between games three and four, which is vital, obviously, as we will discuss. But, you know, Anthony Davis is unlikely to play.
Starting point is 00:03:41 And with groin strains, just like hamstrings, cast, that's a tricky, tricky injury. They're going to monitor it. He is day to day, I'm told. And I think there is some optimism that if this series does continue in the six, seven that he's able to play. Shams, you know what's interesting is that, and I was telling Joy this earlier, that, you know, most of America watches college basketball during. March Madness. We don't sit in January and watch a lot. And most of us, obviously you're excluded from this, but most of us watch the NBA when the playoffs start. So we don't see John Moran. We don't see Trey Young much. And we also didn't watch a lot of Anthony Davis in New Orleans.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Could I make the argument that what has happened this year for the Lakers physically is more who he is than last year? I mean, you look at obviously he's missed more time this year than than he missed last year. I think last year, the way we saw that Lakers group play, and again, that was a special year for them, right? They won a championship. Anytime you win a championship, a lot of stuff has to go right. Health is a big factor in that. And you saw
Starting point is 00:04:43 the way Anthony Davis, whenever he'd get hit, whenever he'd fall, I mean, that, he was springing right back up. And that might also have to do with kind of that season. Well, they got a four and a half month sabbatical, right in the middle of the season. Right in the middle of the season, you're able to rejuvenate your body. And by the time he got back in the bubble, him and LeBron James
Starting point is 00:05:00 looked, there were a couple games they had to it right in the bubble games, right? As far as the regular season games, they had to finish up. But once they got into the playoffs, that group was rolling and you saw they didn't really miss a beat. They went through their trials and tribulations in the playoffs, but those two guys stayed healthy. And health is a major
Starting point is 00:05:16 factor. This year, it just has not gone the way that I think this organization would have liked. And injuries are a part of this. Anthony Davis, thankfully for him, he is locked into a full $190 million contract. But listen, he's missed time this year. There's no question about it.
Starting point is 00:05:32 So if the clippers lost, it's a highly compensated front office. It's a big front office. Steve Ballmer spent a lot of money. My takeaway was if they don't win, it's cabloom time. They're going to make some changes. Now, I think Luca, let's talk his health. Can Luca, he's obviously now with his neck an issue. But a neck and a groin is different.
Starting point is 00:06:00 I mean, Chris Paul appeared to have some sort of. nerve issue. He looked great yesterday. Where are we on Luca's health? Because I do believe a healthy Luca is a different team. Yeah, I'm told Luca Dantich is sore today, and that's a muscular injury that he's dealing within his neck, I'm told, and that's something he's going to
Starting point is 00:06:16 have to monitor over the next couple days. Kind of like Chris Paul, the only way those injuries get better is through rest and taking days off and using that time off to rejuvenate your body. And Chris Paul's injury, I'm told, that's going to be a rest thing, right? And he had an extra day in between games. You saw the way he looked.
Starting point is 00:06:32 he made six mid-range jumpers in game four. He made six all of games one through three. So that shows he's coming back to the Chris Paul of old. He's finding his stride. And if he continues to get better on this off day, I think it will be, you know, Phoenix is going to be in a good position. The Lakers have to make shots in game five. They shot 39% from the field in game four.
Starting point is 00:06:54 That's just not going to cut it. Even LeBron, one for seven from three, that whole group, they need to shoot the ball better. If they shoot the ball better, I do think LeBron can win, will this team. to victories. I'm going back to the Dow's series. There's no question. There has been a lot of pressure on those clippers.
Starting point is 00:07:09 No question. They let go of Doc Rivers last year. You can't blame the coaching staff anymore. You have Ty Lou. You brought in some big name, big money assistant coaches, Dan Craig, who was well regarded from Miami. Chauncey Billups, obviously, a former finals MVP, a longtime star player in the NBA.
Starting point is 00:07:26 Like, they've brought in heavy weights as far as the coaching staff, Ty Lou. We know all about his championship. pedigree. So where was the blame going to fall on this year, especially if they lost in the first round? You know, obviously they're not in that position now. It's two, two. I do think they do have all the momentum now going into game five. Yeah. So let's talk. You broke the story on the Kyrie fans. Let's give people an update. That series is over. We, and we kind of felt this coming in. Once Jalen Brown was not around, the matchups were bad for Boston. Two stars also out
Starting point is 00:07:54 yesterday. Kemba Walker, Rob Williams, their status is up in the air. They're, they're banged up. fully staffed, they would struggle. And they're not now. Give me the latest. You broke the story on the Kyrie fan. What kind of lay it out for us and where are we at with that? Yes, I'm told two fans were arrested last night. And they're going to be, you know, a rain tomorrow in Boston. And two fans.
Starting point is 00:08:18 One, with the Kyrie Irving incident charged with assault and battery with use of a dangerous weapon with that water bottle thrown toward Kyrie Irving. and I'm told that police were told by witnesses that that water bottle did graze Kyrie Irving's head. And so that fan will be arraigned tomorrow. And then another fan actually, a little before, was also arrested assault and battery toward a police officer. So, you know, putting his hands on a police officer,
Starting point is 00:08:47 shoving the police officer. So you had two fans in Boston. One was very, very publicized, as we see right there. The other, not quite as much. So I think this just encapsulates. There's a lot of tension right now among fans. fans. But again, this is one or two fans out of 17,000 at that arena last night. So I, I, the NBA, there's clearly, they've, they've sent out memos. I've reported on memos that the NBA has sent out, you know, they have sent out memos to teams and trying to, there will be new enhanced, you know, code of conduct and security measures in arenas now moving forward. But there's no question. The NBA is dealing with this problem. There's a couple of bad apples here that I think that, that clearly are making waves. If you're, the New York Knicks are interesting because we shouldn't be shocked.
Starting point is 00:09:36 You know, Tom Thibodeau's teams play really hard. He demands a lot at practice. He demands a lot of minutes. And, you know, Mike Dunleavy, I've said this multiple times when I used to cover Mike Dunlevy. He used to say, if you can get a committed team on the defensive end and play hard every night, you can win a lot of games in this league. He goes, you're a 500 team.
Starting point is 00:09:53 You don't have to be great because of the schedule. Stars will take occasional days off. if you just show up with eight guys in your rotation, grinding it, you're a 500 team in this league. And that's kind of what the Knicks felt like. Do you think there's utter disappointment? I mean, Julius ran a loveliest league in his age that don't have a ton of leverage going forward. But they also, he also feels like to a large degree,
Starting point is 00:10:16 Julius feels like the soul of this team. What do they look like next year to you, Shams? I think their team that's going to try to continue to get star players. I think that's really their next step. you're seeing it now, they don't have that next level gear, right? You have Randall, Derek Rose has come out, and he's been probably their best player throughout the series. He really changed their season. I think if they hadn't gone out and gotten Derek Rose, they probably would have been meddling for a playing tournament seating, right?
Starting point is 00:10:44 Then they go out and get Derek Rose as a starting level player. They become a four-seed, get home court advantage. And I think this is a win in and of itself. And I thought going into the playoffs, whichever team won this series, you would have seen an elevate, I think urgency to continue getting better, maybe even doing some drastic stuff as far as going on and getting maybe another piece because you felt like you were so close to making the conference finals. Sean, interesting.
Starting point is 00:11:10 I think we would all agree on the Knicks. They need a score. They need a juice guy. Is it Paul George if the clippers lose? Like, is there a name? Are there people that you think you hear that would fit that would work? Because we know they play hard on the defensive end. We know they've got grinders.
Starting point is 00:11:25 RJ Barrett's a young player that's emerging. But they need a guy. They need a one. Who could be available? Yeah, the question is availability, right? And that's always going to be, there's a difference between being available and guys that they're monitoring. I think guys that they've been monitoring, they've been monitoring guys like Victor Oladipo, who obviously had this season-ending injury.
Starting point is 00:11:46 And I'm told he is making progress. He is expected to play at some point after November. But, you know, guys like him, you're always, that organization is going to monitor Carl Anthony Towns. Bradley Beal, you know, there's going to be, Damien, there's always going to be guys that you monitor, but again, there's a difference column between going out and monitoring these guys and actually having a legitimate chance.
Starting point is 00:12:05 And what types of assets does this team have to go get a player like that? Is it R.J. Barrett? They have a lot of draft picks now. They have cap space. They have cap space. So there are different ways to get creative. And that's really where this organization, I think, is going to take that next step,
Starting point is 00:12:20 is looking into this off-season and identifying guys that can help elevate your team. I think this was a good growth year. now I think this franchise will look how we'll be able to take that next step. Joy spent a lot of time in Miami. It's been a tough week for her. I pick Milwaukee to win it all and they looked dominant. But when you watch Jimmy Butler, his history is he gets frustrated with young players who aren't quite as committed as him.
Starting point is 00:12:43 That's his history. Tyler Hero has regressed. Maybe you've done some of the reporting. There's more than one report out there that Tyler found himself liking the Miami nightlife. and the young players have not grown. And when I watched Jimmy Butler the series, I saw a frustrated, wildly talented player. They made a run at James Harden.
Starting point is 00:13:07 Are they going to, I mean, Shams, are they just going to blow this thing up? What's your gut feeling on this? I mean, listen, they've got Jimmy Butler, and Bam, out of bi on a contract for the next several years. So I don't know if they're necessarily going to blow it up, but there are decisions here that this franchise has to make Duncan Robinson, a guy that...
Starting point is 00:13:21 Free agent, isn't he? The guy that's going to be restricted, free agent. Kendrick Nunn. They have multiple free agent guys that they're going to have to decide on. And so which direction do they go? They were involved in those hardened conversations. You know, depending on who you talk to, how serious were they? Like, I never got to grasp. You know, at the end of the day, that final race was between Philadelphia and Brooklyn. Obviously, Brooklyn went out on that deal. Miami wasn't really in it at the end. So how serious were they? Pat Riley's MO has always been, I'm going to go and try to get a guy. He did the same thing with Jimmy Butler in that training camp in 2018.
Starting point is 00:13:53 He went and made offers for Jimmy Butler, put Josh Richardson on the table at that time, put a couple other guys at the time. I'm told at one point, you know, I think Minnesota felt like they were close on a deal. And then Pat Riley kind of backed off. And once the season started going, and once they were close to game one, Pat Riley said, this is the team I have. I'm not doing anything else. I don't know if that's just an old, you know, old school measure or what. Like, this is the team I have. I'm sticking with these guys.
Starting point is 00:14:19 I'm not engaging anymore. So they really weren't in it for James Harden at the end. So I think they will have to look internally. Tyler Hero needs to take that next step. You saw him play in the bubble so well. He just, you know, over the course of this year, he did not look like that same player in the bubble. He looked great at times, but he didn't bring that same.
Starting point is 00:14:39 I think you saw a different level of swagger to him as well in the bubble. I was in the bubble. You can definitely see from his body language how he was playing, how he was feeling with that group with Jimmy Butler, with Bam out of bio. You didn't quite get that same type of feel this year just seeing them. Obviously, you're not going to as many games, so you're probably working twice as hard to get your information,
Starting point is 00:14:58 which you break more stories than anybody out there. The Brooklyn, I'm fascinated by Brooklyn. I thought it was actually good for the league the Clippers lost last year because you didn't want the belief system to be, you know, load management wins your title. Just don't play in the regular season. So when the Clippers lost, it was kind of this, that load management stuff is not good for chemistry.
Starting point is 00:15:20 Whether that's true or not, I thought it was good for the league. you want stars to play. Brooklyn cobbled these guys together. They are so skilled, so ridiculously talented, and I think to myself, if they win, the message to the players is just jo-join guys, which I don't love. I do think drafting, developing,
Starting point is 00:15:44 I think fans like that. What do you make of Brooklyn the way it's been put together? Do you think the NBA loves it? Do you think they're a little apprehensive about it? If they just fly through these playoff shops and they win a championship, is Adam Silver going, yeah, or is he going, oh boy, I'm not sure I love this.
Starting point is 00:16:04 I don't think, you know, in talking to people around the league, I don't think Adam Silver really has a horse in any type of race. But I think what has been clear, when these super teams are made, whether it's Miami before, Golden State, before with Kevin Durant, like there is so much attention on these guys. There's so much awareness around these guys.
Starting point is 00:16:21 I think it's hard to say it's a bad. thing because there's so much hype, there's so much energy around this roster. There is a lot of pressure. There's a lot of pressure that comes with building a team like this. And I think, you know, what we've seen with Kevin Durant, you know, getting Kyrie Irving to come aboard with him to Brooklyn and him and James Harden and Kyrie Irving working out together in L.A. for multiple weeks last offseason. Like he's been all about building the right habits with this with this team. And I think what we've seen with that organization is a lot of input from him and what he sees. and how he feels about different guys.
Starting point is 00:16:54 And I think that is a positive for that organization. You don't want to just make teams blindly, right? And I think that is a positive for Kevin Durant here in Brooklyn. I mean, this is him, James Harden, Kyrie Irving. They try to make it so that everyone feels like they're a part of it, from Blake Griffin on down to Bruce Brown. I think there is a lot of team camaraderie on this team that does, you know, make it a positive. By the way, so how old are you now?
Starting point is 00:17:19 I'm 27. It's insane to me. So you go to Loyola. Four years ago, you get out of Loyola. What was your first job? Well, my first job was I wrote for RealGM.com. So that was kind of my first job. This is what, junior year of high school, actually.
Starting point is 00:17:36 So my first job out of college, I mean, I was at Yahoo Sports. I was at the vertical for three years. So you were employed as a college student. Yeah. You're one of those overachievers. I don't know, my overachievers. I probably didn't have a life. I'm just always in.
Starting point is 00:17:51 Good for you. Sham Charnia does a great job. He's a senior NBA insider at the Athletic and Stadium, so it breaks all sorts of stories. We'd love seeing you again whenever you're in L.A., stop by. Always. We will at some point have food and drinks and beverages to elevate your experience, Shams.
Starting point is 00:18:08 At least we could do for our great guests. Congratulations to you, your family, and everybody. Thanks, ma'am. Appreciate it. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Imagine an Olympics where doping is. not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:20:08 Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day but just so y'all know I mean at this point Mark this is the second episode where we've discussed crack
Starting point is 00:20:29 so I'm starting to see that there's a through line We also have AIDS on the table right now so that you're finishing that sentence I don't think there's a more important year for black people
Starting point is 00:20:40 really? Yeah for me it's one of the most important years for black people in American history Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts
Starting point is 00:20:51 Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tript Fantine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:21:18 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:21:34 And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app, Search learn the hard way and listen now.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. That's not having our snack table really affects Colin Schaams. My, I've got, I need my sugar intake, and I just get unbalanced here. I mean, really, we could, we could have it. I'm totally.
Starting point is 00:22:12 I have, I have been at other productions during. Really? Oh, don't get me going, Joy. predicaments that have had snacks. Now they do provide a giant bottle of hand sanitizer and a sign that says please sanitize your hands before you take a snack. People are watching me thinking, coward, get over it.
Starting point is 00:22:29 Nobody cares about your... No, I mean, Colin likes to graze throughout the show. I'm a grazer. Grapes, fruit, crackers, whatever. So we were just discussing this. A Celtics fan has been arrested and charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon after allegedly throwing a water bottle at Kyrie Irving.
Starting point is 00:22:48 The incident occurred after last night's game as the players were leaving the court and the bottle, as Shum just said, was said to have grazed Kyrie's head. The fan is subject to a lifetime ban from the arena. And a second fan in Boston is also arrested Sunday night for assault and battery of a police
Starting point is 00:23:04 officer. Look, this is clearly an issue, right? Like, this is a problem. Four time in a week. Yeah, it's one thing. If it's one incident here and there, I mean, we know fans have been doing this for a long time and not just in the NBA. I mean, there's stories from the NFL and hockey and everywhere you go.
Starting point is 00:23:24 People misbehave and airlines are dealing with this right now. I don't like to make excuses for people's behavior, which is why I don't want to hear about alcohol. They serve alcohol, lots of different establishments. People manage to go and consume that and not assault people all the time. I had a beer and a plane last night. I was okay. Yeah, you did okay? Yeah, fine.
Starting point is 00:23:42 You're here today. She didn't walk off and throw punches at people. Not arrested. that did not assault any flight attendants. So it's entirely possible to consume alcohol and behave yourself. It's also entirely possible to go to an event or a game and not get in trouble. I mean, Shams just mentioned there's 17,000 people there. This is two incidents.
Starting point is 00:24:00 So, yes, overall, everyone is behaving themselves. But the idea that you can cross this physical barrier with players is a real issue. Because what we don't want to see, because we've seen it before, is players up in the stands. And listen, these are grown men. These are the best athletes in the world, okay, and grown men, and they're human beings. So at one point or another, we know this continues to happen where this is going to end up. We know it. So there has to be some serious repercussions for it.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Yep. Publicize their names, publicize their families, put some pressure on the people who do these things. Stop validating it and marginalizing it. It's serious. I don't want to hear about Kyrie stepping on a logo. Nobody cares. Symbols are not more important than human beings. If you can't consume that, I can't help you.
Starting point is 00:24:51 All right. There's no justification for crossing a physical barrier with a player. There's, I mean, look, obviously I look at sports from a very human space. My brother played for a long time. I've been, I've had beers poured on me at games. I've had hot dogs thrown on me, thrown at me after games. I had fans follow me to my car. Fine.
Starting point is 00:25:09 All right. But if somebody decides they're not going to tolerate that, behavior, then what happens? Are you going to have this same compassionate excuses for the player when he's pummeling some guy? Nobody wants to see that. Like, and there's kids at these games. It's nonsense. People really need to get it together. Game five is Tuesday at 7.30 Eastern. I think that the NBA is just going to have to try and work closer with the local authorities to make the consequences more severe. Take seats away. Take 500 seats that are in the tunnels. Rapped it. There's a NBA's been doing this for years, Joy.
Starting point is 00:25:45 They've been jamming seats. When you walk off the floor, that first row of seats on both end of the tunnel, tarped, put a commercial, make your money on a commercial from Pepsi. Have a big Pepsi logo on both sides. Take those 20 fans out. Like, there's just no,
Starting point is 00:26:05 if I can touch a player walking off a court, clearly there's a percentage of people that can't handle it. Then eliminate the seats. It's not that difficult. So the Bears have made a big move. They traded up to get Justin Fields. There's a lot of excitement surrounding him and the future of the franchise and when he's going to start. And Jay Cutler says he wouldn't put any extra pressure on him by starting him week one.
Starting point is 00:26:26 I wouldn't play the kid to start. That's where I would start. I would let him watch. And, you know, I think it's just a tough spot to put, you know, someone out there, especially in Chicago. And I think Andy is more than serviceable. I think they can win games with Andy and kind of float the ship along until he's ready. Well, you and I, what'll be interesting is when you get Justin Fields, and he does the things that Andy Dalton doesn't do well, very well, big arm, big athlete.
Starting point is 00:26:57 So the players in the locker room camps OTAs preseason. You're going to see, and bear fans, by the way, this is a very loud, big city. So when Justin Fields peels off a 47-yard touchdown run, and you're trying as Matt Nagy to tell the fans and the team, Listen, right now we've got, it's a hard, like, that was the danger to me drafting Trey Lance to Atlanta, because Trey can do stuff Matt can't, and though Matt may be better at the line of scrimmage because he's a veteran player, Andy Dalton probably should be better than Justin Fields at the line of scrimmage for two years. When everybody in that locker room can see Justin or a Trey running around and doing
Starting point is 00:27:34 stuff, and what they do, the starter can not only do, it limits your offense. It's a hard sell, not just to me or you, to the players. Yeah, you can't full the players, as we know. The fan base is not going to be patient if they see him lighting it up in, you know, preseason games. But also, I don't subscribe to the idea that rookie quarterbacks can't start week one. When you bring in a rookie quarterback in general, you have a little bit of a grace period to let them develop. Nobody expects you to go out there and win. There is a development process to these.
Starting point is 00:28:09 rookie quarterbacks. Joe Burroughs started week one. Now, obviously, he didn't have an offensive line, so we know how that worked out. But he was developing. He was playing well. It wasn't the, it wasn't the apocalypse. Kyler Murray, Sam Darnold. Well, you had Adam Gase, but. Let me, let me just tell you what my eyes tell me. I'm looking at this video. And you know, Joy, I test matters. I'm a man. I'm a visual creature. Look at Justin Fields. Manilics. What does Justin Fields look like? When you look at Justin Fields right now, viewers F.S.1. What does that look like? That is a pro athlete. It looks like a, yes, but also you have to keep in mind, this is Andy Doleyn we're talking about. No, I'm not even talking about Andy.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Yeah, but I'm saying like, compare what you're watching and then we know what Andy Dalton is and what he's capable of. I'm sorry, but I look at Justin Fields and that's why I thought, oh, that's the second best quarterback. That kid is a big pro athlete, six four. Let me just look at him. That is a big mobile pro athlete. He's going to see the field sooner You're not going to keep him. If you go one and three, you're not going to keep that athlete who's lighting guys up in practice. You're not keeping him off the field. Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:29:14 So Trevor Lawrence hit the coaching jackpot with Davos Swinney in college, and now he is getting a chance to work with another elite coach in Urban Meyer. And he was asked about the big difference that he's seen so far between the two. He said, I think their personalities are different. Coach Swinney is a bit more goofy and loose. The structure and the way they do things is very similar, though. Communication and the culture they want to establish is the same. thing. They make it super clear. There's no excuse for someone to not know what the goal is here.
Starting point is 00:29:39 I think any great leader needs to do that. Well, Dabo Sweeney and I used to, we didn't get along. Yeah, you guys made up. Then, you guys are like besties now. I interviewed him. He was, he was fascinating and incredibly relatable. Once you sit down, you know, I'm a West Coast guy. He's a Southern guy played at Alabama. He coaches Clemson. We don't know each other growing up in different worlds. but I found, and I've known Herman forever, but when I found the more you hear about Davoswini and meet him and hear his story, he's really relatable.
Starting point is 00:30:11 Yeah, I really enjoyed that interview with you guys. He really is a relatable guy, had a tough childhood, and just overcame it. And, you know, one of the things you can say about dabbo, joy, his assistants never leave. His assistants never leave. Like, they stay with dabble, and that tells you something. Yeah, I mean, it's a good job.
Starting point is 00:30:31 in a good life. You take care of the people around you. They're going to stick around. Good stuff. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. Starting point is 00:31:29 Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Starting point is 00:33:11 Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84's big two,
Starting point is 00:33:28 to me not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:33:50 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Keer Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tript Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
Starting point is 00:34:25 And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:34:45 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose. On my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free, our heart radio app. Learn the hard way and listen now. All right, time for another edition of buy, sell, and hold. I'm your financial planner. I'm your stockbroker.
Starting point is 00:35:08 Should you buy, sell, or hold this NBA playoff statement. Joy, let's go. LeBron will lose in the first round for the first time in his career, buy, sell, or hold. Well, LeBron's never lost in the first round of the playoffs, Joy. He's 14 and 0. Mm-hmm. But the sons, it comes down to health. They're 2 and 0 when Chris Paul plays 30 plus minutes.
Starting point is 00:35:34 They are 0 and 2 when he plays less than 30 minutes. So it's a hold. Let's just see Chris Paul's health. That will determine the series. Okay. The Mavericks will not win another game this series by Seller Hold. Well, the Mavericks do have, they've hit more three-pointers, Joy, and more free throws than the Clippers in this series.
Starting point is 00:35:55 they are also the best shooting three-point team in the playoffs. And this last game, I mean, they scored a seasonal 81. So I think that's a sell. I do think the Mavericks, as Lucas Health gets better, Dallas makes a real run back at the Clippers. All right, you pick them to go all the way. So what are you going to do here? Bucks will beat the Nets in the second round by Sell or Hold. Well, Yonis averaged 40 and 11.
Starting point is 00:36:25 against the Nets. He is the best interior player in the NBA left playoffs and they have no physical presence down low for Brooklyn. Now, the Nets also have a bench that scores fewer than 20 points a game.
Starting point is 00:36:41 So, I do think the Bucks beat a more offensively gifted Brooklyn team. The heat will acquire a star this offseason by Seller Hold. They have calorie, salary cap space, Joy. So Goran Dragich and Andre Aguadala, team options. My guess is they will move probably off both.
Starting point is 00:37:04 It also should be noted that no heat player averaged over 20 in the playoffs. And Bam is good, but he is not a star yet. So Joy, bye, bye, bye, heat will go big off season. The Hawks will beat the Knicks in game five to end the series by Seller Holds. Well, since Nate McMillan took over March 1st, it's a different team. They're 30 and 12. And also, Nate McMillan, he was a Sonic. I know Nickman. He was a very good defensive guard.
Starting point is 00:37:37 The Hawks defense, second best defensive rating in the playoffs. Now, some of that is the Knicks are limited offensively. But Julius Randall, nobody could have predicted this. So, by, bye, bye, yes, the Hawks will win this series. Not just Trey Young. Nate McMillan is a very good defensive coach, and they have shut the Knicks totally down. The Sixers will make the NBA finals for the first time since 2001 by Seller Hold.
Starting point is 00:38:06 Well, here's my concern about the Sixers. 16 wins and 17 losses this year against winning teams. Also, Tobias Harris, who is always a nice player, is averaging 25 a game against the Wizards. So my guess is, sell, sell, sell, sell. I don't think they are going to be a championship team. They have struggled. They've been very average against the best teams.
Starting point is 00:38:33 The Clippers will make the Western Conference Finals for the first time in franchise history, buy, sell, or hold. Here's what concerns me about the Clippers. What did we keep talking about? Clutch time scoring. There are 16 wins, 18 losses in clutch time games, meaning it's close with five minutes to go. Now, the thing I do like about them, the Clippers are the best free throw shooting team left. Kauai Leonard now is healthy and literally on fire.
Starting point is 00:39:02 So let's say, that is a hold with the Clippers. What does worry me about the Clippers. It's almost impossible to win a world series with a bad bullpen, and it's almost impossible to win an NBA championship if you're bad late in games. So many of these postseason baseball games or postseason basketball games are decided in the like,
Starting point is 00:39:22 last two innings or the last three minutes and the clippers are not a very good clutch time. All the data indicates that's their weakness. They're very good when they lead by 12 late. That's when the clippers can defend you, shut you down. So Chris Paul's health, Lucas health, Donovan Mitchell's health, overwhelmingly deciding all of these series. So speak for yourself as around the corner. Joy, Memorial Day. Thank you so much for coming in today, Joy.
Starting point is 00:39:50 And we appreciate you. A lot of options out there, viewing, watching, and thanks for choosing us. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
