Ah, hour two, live in L.A. It's the hurt. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, I Heart Radio, Fox Sports Radio and FS1. I was, Joy Taylor is joining me. So yesterday I was driving around. I tried to stay out of the house because it's in shambles. And people were talking about Coach K. Yes.

In one year is leaving Duke. And North Roy Williams had just retired not long ago. Isn't that ironic? The two biggest basketball programs in America last probably 20 years. Well, I mean, they both been there a long time. Yeah. And the radio announcer, I forget his name, was talking about the future of both Duke and North Carolina. I mean, you can certainly make an argument last 20 years, last 30.

Those are the two best college basketball programs in America. Of course. And then the coaches both are stepping down one recently and one next year. will they both thrive going forward or who will thrive more? And I felt I needed to give an opinion on this. Of course. That's what we do. So if you love college basketball, you can't really take the emotion out of it.

But I'm going to describe Duke, the university. Not the basketball program. I'm going to describe what Duke is. These words are terms. private, exclusive, small, elite academically, tiny arena. And ask yourself, does that sound like a college football or basketball power? No, that's not how we describe Ohio State football, Alabama football, private, small, exclusive, elite academically, tiny arena. Now let me describe North Carolina.

State school, public, massive revenue producing arena. Good school, little less intense academically. Michael Jordan connection. Now take out the Michael Jordan thing. I just described Ohio State football, Alabama football, Florida sports, state school, public, huge revenue producing. Good school, little less intense, not private. not, not. Duke has been around since 1905, the basketball program. Coach K has half their wins. Duke is not built to be as great as they are. They just got a once-in-a-lifetime basketball genius.

North Carolina has won three titles with three different basketball coaches. They're the big state school. They're public. Massive revenue. So my takeaway is replacing Dean Smith or Roy Williams is hard. Replacing Mike Shoshchevsky's impossible. Nobody will, nobody has ever replaced John Wooden at UCLA. Nobody will ever replace Nick Saban at Alabama. You'll have a good coach. You'll never get Saban.

That is a once in a lifetime coach. By the way, Dean Smith and Roy Williams are great. I'm not knocking it. But Roy Williams, if tomorrow Bill Self wanted to leave Kansas, you'd have a replacement. You'd be fine.

I mean, I think Hubert Davis will win a bunch of games. You can replicate mostly Roy Williams. Not a lot of them, maybe six or seven. There is no Mike Shoshchevsky. If you knew his life story, his hard scrabble life, what he grew up with, his determination, his intellect, there are no Mike Shoshchewski's. There are no more Nick Sabins.

you're not going to get a Bill Belichick whose mother spoke seven languages and whose dad wrote the book on scouting. They'll never be a Belichick. They'll be good coaches. They'll never be a Belichick. There are no more Tiger Woods. There's not. There are once in a generation. So I think Carolina will remain a basketball power.

I think Duke could win a bunch of games. But if you think you can just move a Duky guy in, it doesn't work that way. Carolina has won a bunch of football games and a bunch of bowl games with a lot of football coaches. and they've won basketball titles with three different coaches. And my guess with Hubert Davis, eventually they win a fourth. But, you know, we always, we don't appreciate greatness quite as much as we should. A lot of people in golf complained about Tiger. That's all the network show.

The documentary about Tiger is more interesting than any current golfer not named Phil Mickelson. The documentary about Michael Jordan is more interesting that all but about three NBA players. The documentary, like there is no other country. Coach K. The market doesn't have him. And I say that with respect to a dozen great coaches in college basketball. But there are, you know, the Haley's Comet. It just comes around very rarely. Howard Beck, Sports Illustrated, senior writer covering the NBA for almost 25 years. He is now joining us live. The Eastern Conference playoffs are set. Western Conference playoffs. contingent on a lot of injuries, and let's just talk about that.

I believe, I really do having watched all the games, Phoenix, when Chris Paul is mostly healthy. I really honestly think Howard, they're better than the Lakers. I really do. I know it's crazy. I know, but I think they'll win tonight. Give me your sense of what you've watched Phoenix and the Lakers. Any surprises for you at all? Nothing surprising.

And I think it's actually a really frustrating series in a lot. of ways, Colin, because of exactly what you alluded to. Chris Paul hasn't been healthy since the first half of game one. Anthony Davis is out. LeBron's still not 100%. I love the idea of the Lakers being the toughest seventh seed in NBA history that had to play through the first ever play in tournament and all this. And then going up against the Phoenix team that surprised the heck out of all of us, probably surprised themselves with how great they were this regular season. And so not getting these two teams at full strength. And if the Lakers go down, okay, the Sun's knocked off the defending champs, but did they?

If the Lakers win, it's still, okay, but Chris Paul, who was clearly the linchpin to the son's team, if he wasn't healthy, how much did that really mean? I'm more frustrated with the series than anything else. I don't know that we've had any particular revelations because anything that we see that really pops, it still has to be distilled through the lens of, yeah, but neither of these teams is really themselves right now. Yeah. You know, there's two ways, if you lose in the playoffs and in disappointing fashion, you're a

favorite and you lose, there's two things to do. You can do what Milwaukee does, which is just get better. Let's go get Drew Holiday. Let's get PJ Tucker. We're not blowing it up. We're just going to, we're committed to Chris Middleton. We're committed to the coach. We're committed to Janus.

Let's go get better. Okay. Then there's what I think's going to happen in Clipperland. Bring out the TNT. Bloom. I really do, Harry. I think there's a lot of Balmer pressure. This

is the second year in a row. Man, if they lose, I just don't see him standing Pat. Your thoughts on the rest of this series and what happens if Dallas goes home and wins? Well, you're right about this much. I don't think Steve Balmer is a

particularly patient or forgiving person. I mean, he wants to win. He wants to win badly. We know what his passion is for everything that he does, including this team. But look, this is year two of the Paul George Kauai Leonard version of the Clippers. It seems like it's been a lot longer. Like this is some extension of the Lob City era, which had all its disappointments. This era has

nothing to do with that era. And the Paul George Kauai Leonard partnership has existed only in the context of a global pandemic. So whatever happened in the bubble, whatever happened in year one, with Paul George having to first recover from dual shoulder surgeries, all the choppiness of that season, and then we get to this season and it has all its own weirdness to it. I'm not trying to make excuses for them, Colin. I'm just saying it's hard, again, to get a true assessment. There are some flaws. Let's be clear.

They have never really done much to upgrade or address their point guard problems, and thus their playmaking issues in a game like last night down the stretch where they're falling apart. That goes to playmaking and point guard, the lack of somebody. to organize it. Why wasn't Rhonda on the court then? Was Rondo really going to be the solution long-term there anyway? I'd like that is still the whole that I think the clippers have to plug. So, you know, we were talking about Utah. Joy calls them broccoli. We know it's good for you. It's good fundamental. It's just, it's just not fascinating to talk about. And I kind of look at the West, and it so much depends on health. But then I go to the East. And,

When Joel Embed gets hurt, this is still a real team with Ben Simmons, Tobias Harris, they have long interior defenders. I think they'll beat Atlanta, and I don't think they have to play Embed, you know, all four or five or six games to beat him. When you look at the Embed injury, does it really, because the East feels like a three-team race from day one. It's Brooklyn, it's Milwaukee, it's Philly. Once Doc has sort of at some point healed the chemistry issues to some degree, it's a three-team race.

or do you feel this morning with Embedd's injury that it's a two-team race and Philadelphia is not the same club? I don't want to jump there just yet. The Embed thing just happened. That news just came to us in the last 24 hours. But yeah, look, a slightly torn meniscus, it's still a torn meniscus. And you can say, well, we're going to just get him through with rehab and he's day to day. I don't know, man. I've torn a meniscus. And I'm not seven feet. And I don't play basketball for a little. living. I don't know that that's an injury that in the course of a postseason, he's just going to rehab from and then jump right back out there and be the same Joelle Ambide who was having an MVP type season this year. So that's a pretty big crimp. And when you think about what our concerns were with the Sixers even before he went down, where do they go down the stretch of a game?

Is it, you know, Joel Embed is not a shot creator? Ben Simmons doesn't necessarily want to take the shot down the stretch and he doesn't want to go to the line down the stretch. So is it about Tobias Harris? Well, if Ambid's not out there or if he's limited, we have even bigger versions of those same questions. So I'm not saying that takes the Sixers out of the mix, that they're not still a contender in the East. They are. We can put up a bunch of caveats about the Bucks and the Nets too. But the caveat on the Sixers feels really big right now, like seven foot something big.

Yeah. So when Brooklyn and Milwaukee is, to me, this is the rare second round matchup where I feel like, This is as good as it gets. This will feel like a conference final. And it's interesting because Milwaukee had their way. They really could dominate down low against Brooklyn. And I never think the playoffs are a good place to try and solve your dilemmas. I don't think Milwaukee necessarily has a dilemma against Brooklyn.

I mean, you know, they can put Drew on holiday. Kevin's going to score and Kyrie's going to score. It's not a dilemma. It's a reality. I don't know if Brooklyn can stop. Milwaukee down low. How do you see that series playing out? Well, I think the most fascinating thing off the top is, are Janice and Kevin Durant guarding each other right out of the gate?

Because if you think about it, you know, Drew and Kyrie are probably guarding each other. That's pretty obvious. Hardin-Mittleton are probably guarding each other. You know, Joe Harris and Conantton, the shooters are going to go guard each other. So then it's, you know, is Blake Griffin guarding Brooke Lopez, or is Blake Griffin guarding Kevin Durant, assuming Blake Griffin is starting? because that goes then to the Kevin Durant question. I think that's what you end up with. I think it's Blake Griffin on Lopez,

and now you've got Janice and Durant on each other from the start. Instead of that, well, let's hold that for late game situations, especially if you're on the Milwaukee side and Janus is an all-world defender. And Kevin Durant's pretty good as well. So instead of saving that, that might be the batchup from minute one, which is fascinating, given the level both of those guys can play at.

And we still have the question, Colin. The nets have not sufficiently answered because they haven't been able to. What they will do under real duress. Those guys, their big three has barely played together this year, as we know. Their defense has been suspect from the beginning, as we know. And blowing out a hobbled, kind of screwed up Celtics team in the first round, hasn't shown us anything really. So here's the test we've all been waiting for.

By the way, a little trivia that I know, Joe Harris plays for Brooklyn. He's Mr. Bucket. He shoots. You know where he went to high school? Lake Chalanne. Do you know what the name of his team was?

Mountain goats. How do I know that? Because I'm from the state of Washington. He is the greatest high school basketball player in Washington State history that played Singley basketball. He played in a tiny little league in Lake Chalan. which is a great place to be in the summer, Wenatchee, Lake Shiland, you know, it's not far from where I grew up. He's the greatest player in the history of Washington State single A player.

His dad was the coach. That's a little trivia there. Lake Shaland Mountain Goat, which will never be mentioned on the show again. Well, unless we have him on, then you're going to tell me. Oh, I'd love to have him on. He was a great player. Like, I used to go to the state tournament and watch,

and, you know, guys, if they were good, would go play it like not even Pack 12. That's a hard chant to do. Mountain goats, it is. Because it's not a really good. Cadence. Two bits, four, bit, six bits a dollar, all for the Lake Chelan Mountain Goat stand-up. It doesn't work.

The talent's overvalued. like like you know USC can Clay Hilton coach or not how many first round picks does USC have maybe one every other year the Yankees talent's over it's first of all I heard that catcher Sanchez was going to be a legend you can't hit I mean at some point when you're the the upside to go and plan for a big brand is you get attention the downside is we over a value how good we think oh you're at Michigan football you have to be good And as we know, a lot of these, you know, I mean, the Dodgers have a bunch of good players. They got one monkey bets. Monkey bats comes in, you're like, oh, oh, that's the best player.

I love Justin Turner. I love Cody Ballinger, but Yankees players. And that's that good. Am I wrong? You know, Goulet used to sit in that chair and he watched every single inning of Yankee games and would lament it. We were just talking about that behind the scenes here. A bit of a drop off from my favorite teams, unfortunately. What's your favorite team?

Bengals and Angels. Oh, boy. Okay, thanks for playing along, Joy, with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Herd Line News. How did you land on the Bengals? No, kidding.

Good Lord. Sad childhood. No, I was always a Carson Palmer fan. Yeah, but he left. I'd move on. I should have. Clearly, he made the smart decision, and I did not. I mean, when Carson left, you could have went with him.

So the Lakers desperately need Anthony Davis to be able to play in a winner go home game six tonight. He's going to be a game time decision, groin strain, and he's hopeful the doctors will let him back out there. Hopefully, you know, all rehab and treatment that I'm doing, you know, pays off. And, you know, the doctors clear me to go tomorrow. That's what we want. So, you know, like I say, getting more treatment tonight tomorrow. tomorrow and kind of

toss the doctor before game after before and after I shoot and hopefully everything comes back good where they clear me so that's what we would

Anthony Davis's injury history we were talking about it yesterday and I was like I guess this is made too much to read. Maybe I'll read some of it. Concussion, chest contusion, back spasms, torn labrum and left shoulder, left shoulder sprain, right-shoulder strain, right-dectar strain, goring strain, bruised tailbone, right, hip contusion,

left-infeldion, left-indexl sprain, right, Achilles tendonitis. Tendinosis, sorry, left ankle sprain, left toe sprain. Now look, I don't know. He's 28. Compared to other players, you know, every time you register an injury and you're rehabbing something how much this adds up. But it feels like a lot. And yes, he is 28.

And, you know, to your point earlier about, you know, if this is a big, you know, you have to kind of cross your fingers that if you're built around a big. Even Brooklyn. They cross their fingers with Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant, Dallas, Porzengas. I wouldn't even just classify. I mean, Kevin Durant is a big person. Right.

But he doesn't play the way that Anthony Davis or, you know, Joel Embed. play, knowing that Anthony Davis is this kind of player. And again, this isn't an attack on Anthony Davis. Like, he is an injury prone player. That is a fact. It's like when we talk about Jimmy Garoppolo, it's not personal. He's an injury prone player. Like, that's what this is. That's what your career has shown. Yes. You have to be aware that you're going to need someone to step into that role or compensate for that role throughout your roster if that is somebody that you're going to have on your team. Think about this.

So even though Kevin Durant doesn't play like M.B. or AD, name the three players in the league that when they hit the floor, it looks painful. Go look at M.B.'s injury. I think we showed it earlier in the show. If that's a 6-2 guard, it does not look like that. Well, your center of gravity is lower to the ground. Like you have a lower center of gravity. You fall more.

And you fall harder. if you're a guard. And if you're a big, you carry more weight on your joints. It's a big part of the reason why so many people were concerned about Zion's weight. Like you're a big guy,

your weights on your joints and your ankles on your knees is more intense than someone who weighs less. Like that's how it works. Now how much that leads to injuries is going to depend on how you take care of your body throughout the off-season, how you rehab, how you eat. We know all of that. But yeah, when you fall and you're big,

it's a lot more falling. It looks like a bad ski crash. I mean, it's just like poles and skis and gloves. You watch AD and M-Bed. With that M-Bed injury, it looks so catastrophic. Watch this. I mean, geez, that is just, that does not look like a 6-2 guard hitting the floor. It's a lot more weight and body hitting the floor.

It's just a lot more human hitting the floor. I feel like with KD, AD and Embed, it's finger-crossing. That's what the franchise is. Hold your breath. I just, I don't know what the Lakers are going to do for the rest of the, even if they do make it pass the suns, even if they do happen to make it pass the sense, what are you going to do through the rest of the playoffs? Like, he's just not reliable. So, Kwari Leonard had a chance to tie the game against the Mavs last night,

but instead he missed a three-pointer in the final seconds, and Dallas held on to take the three-two series lead. This was the best game of the night last night. And it wasn't in the, The third was a disaster for the clipper. So it was a blowout until about mid to late, fourth. After the game, Kauai admitted he needs to step it up and clutch situations like that. He said, I turned and fell to him right behind me, tried to pump fake and was just off balance,

was leaning back, ended up shooting it. I got to do a better job. Definitely disappointed in the loss. Hey, talked. I'm glad with that. We got a comment. You know, here's the thing about Kauai. And I've said this before.

Kauai is not the question to me with the clippers. I don't question what Kauai is capable of. He's a two-time champ, two-time finals MVP, five-time NBA All-Star, four-time all-N-B-A, two-time NBA defensive player of the year. He is what he is. He is an assassin. You don't bring in an assassin to rally the troops. You bring in an assassin to get the job done.

And then they go back to their isolated life. That's what he is. He doesn't talk. He's not a vocal leader. He's not a culture guy. But we know that. We talk about this all the time. Why do we try and, Anthony Davis, why are we trying to?

trying to force him into being the one, into being the face of the franchise. He's not healthy enough consistently to do that. This is not what Kauai does. Kauai was successful where, with the Spurs, who have a Hall of Fame legendary coach, notable culture, other stars, Mono Genoble, Tony Parker, Danny Green, Tim Duncan. Then he went to the Raptors, who, again, have a good coach, Nick Nurse, who had a culture, who were consistently at the top of the east in the playoffs every single year. They just needed a star to put them over the edge.

What are the spurs right now? Kind of good. Need a star. That's what Kauai is. You insert him into a steady, consistent culture with a good coach and pieces around him that have already been there who can rally the troops. Like, that's what Kauai is. So the Klippers don't have a culture.

Yeah. So it's like you're asking Kauai to be something that he's not, but he's already proven what he is capable of. Yeah, I mean, he's, you build it around Kauai. it's going to be weird. And that's what they are. An unexplainable weird team. They've lost all their home games, all three, and they've won both the road games.

And Dallas is just, Dallas needs more pieces around Luca, like Luca is young. All right. So I thought you would enjoy this. Lions head coach Dan Campbell. Oh, no. What did you do? What did he do? Who has announced today as the Grand Marshal for the Detroit Grand Prix next weekends.

He also confirmed that the Lions are interested in signing Todd Gurley and are talking with his agents, so he did manage to get some serious football talk in while celebrating his Grand Marshal announcement. Now, when you were walking to the podium,

you thought that was a good idea. Look, I know fans think this is funny and, you know, it's like he's one of the guys. Oh, he's one of us. I don't want my coach to be one of us. Yeah, I don't, I'm not somebody who takes myself particularly seriously, but there are just, there's just things I don't, I don't want to, I don't want jokes out. Would Belichick do that? Would Bill Wals do that?

And just ask yourself, would, would Sean McVade? The first thing I thought was, Brian Flores would literally never. you know who thinks that's funny dumb people sorry I'm rude I just I don't dumb guys here's what I think that's funny

here's when I think that's funny if Andy Reid does that that's funny Andy Reid does that that's funny Andy Reid because he's a legend exactly that's when I think that's funny I'm trying to think of somebody else who

like Pete Carroll does that it's kind of funny by the way Tom Brady grabs the Super Bowl trophy and throws it to another boat if a waiver wire player did that and it went into the bay, he'd be cut from the team. You'd be like, you're a moron.

And it would be like in the Hall of Fame of legendary dumb things to do. But if Tom does it, you're like, well, he's the greatest player of all time. I mean, even if it, even if it did fall into the bay, we're like, he's got six other ones. That's right. Like, Tom was sauced. It's okay. That's my thing.

Like, do something to earn being funny guy. Do something to earn being funny guy. If you're in charge of everything, it's cool to lighten things up. But after you've done all the serious things you need to do. This is the thing we said about Matt Patricia. So Matt Patricia, first game as a coach that Lions put his hat on backwards on the sidelines. And I said, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Can't do that in your first game.

Belichick can cut his sweatshirt, his hoodie. He's got nine trophies. Your first game is an NFL head coach. You got a pencil in your ear and your hat on backwards. I had, and I ripped him. I'm like, you look, I had multiple executives. Text me and go, you are so spot on. I would call him in the office Monday morning.

You're representing a billion dollar. You have to earn the right to do something goofy. Yeah, you wouldn't walk into a new job. How about the guy in Philadelphia? What about rock paper scissors? You better have an NFC championship before you talk about rock paper scissors with your draft pick. I mean, yeah, I want to prove to me that you're competent and capable before you start cracking jokes.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, you can be funny as the CEO after a great earnings report and one in the company for 12 years. First time you ever speak to your employees, hey, hey, I got a helicopter on my hat. Woo-cook-cook-cook-cou shirk-tie. You're like. I also love those hats. Yeah, guys, a loser. I know people are watching this.

They don't get it. success gives you liberties and freedoms you don't have. Yeah. I mean, I agree. Like, there's just certain situations. Again, if Andy Reid does this, all right, Andy Reid has a ring. He's the smartest offensive coach in the game for 15 years. Like, very well respected.

These are workaholics, brilliant guys, spent hours on a, a joke, days in a joke. In the funny business, anything that's funny, be serious. In serious businesses have a sense of humor. Like if you're an accountant, you're a lawyer and you're in these big cases, a little levity in a law office where everybody's all stressed out, it goes a long way. Yeah. You know? So if you're playing a game for a living should be a little more serious. I mean, football is fun and everything, but, but you start, you can look like a high school gym teacher coaching a football team, you put a helmet on at a press conference. And just, just, just opinions here.

That's all these are. Just, just, just opinions. You put a hat on with a helicopter, co, co, co, co, co, you better have an NFC championship. What has Detroit done? Like, even if, like, he was replacing somebody and Detroit was, like, consistently good. Like, if I took, if I took the lion's job, knowing the culture and. the recent 30-year history of the team. Yeah.

I would be a no BS guy. I'd be like, listen, bottom line, this culture now is all football. I would go to my, I would say, assistants don't talk. No talking. Quarterback talks, I talk.

We are all business. Because the history is goofy. Now, if I replace Belichick, where the history is great, I would probably realize I need to curry favor with the media, because we're not going to win as much as Bill and Tom, I would be a little lighter in that environment being,

I would curry favor with the media knowing, give us a little break here, guys. I talked to Bill Cowher the other day. When Bill Cower took over the Steelers, they had all these rings, right? Bill Cowher, both newspapers, went on strike that year. He got a total break. Nobody could rip his team.

The newspapers were on strike. Wow. So Cower knew, we got about a year to get this figured out because there's no newspaper guys. He got a little bit of a break, but he knew he had replaced a legend, and it changes the temperature in the room on what you're doing. And you can't be the Lions coach and goofy. Not yet anyway. You've got to be serious about it.

I mean, it's just, by the way, Alabama hired a football coach years ago. I know I'm just rambling on this stuff. Alabama hired a football coach. He coached at Washington State. His name was Mike Price. Nice man. He was goofy. Mike Price could be goofy at Washington.

State. He went to Alabama, got caught in a strip club, fired, didn't coach a game. You do not go to a strip club at Alabama. Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Texas, USC. By the way, Mike Leach is perfect for Washington State. He's fascinated with pirates. Can't hire Mike Leach at Alabama, Ohio State. He's contrarian, he's goofy. He gets Washington State attention. Mike Leach is great at Washington State. You couldn't even hire him at Washington. It's got too much tradition national championships. Dan Campbell is not the right hire. What you needed there is a serious, intense business like Kyle Shanahan, Sean McVey,

no BS, no. Instead, you've got Matt Patricia, hat on backwards, and Dan Campbell, Helmut Press Conference. Exact opposite of what you should hire. And I just rambled for 10 minutes. Don't do it under the influence or too late at night when you're groggy. It's a loaded gun. Don't do it when you're drinking or weary. You can use it smartly. Tom Brady uses it very smartly. I'll give an example of a good use of social media. This is Brady on TikTok, lamenting, laughing at himself about a situation during the season when he forgot what down it was.

You guys remember this one? Fourth quarter, last chance in Chicago. I thought it was the second to last chance in Chicago, but apparently not. I don't think I've ever been as confused as I am in this moment right here. Get up face. Very good use. Superstar, look how dumb I am. I showed you another use yesterday I thought was very effective on social media, Russell Wilson.

Russell's been unhappy this offseason, but he's got his Seahawk helmet on. And the quotes, ain't nothing I want more. Winning us, Seahawk helmet shows the gun show. Look how committed he is. He's not even in Seattle. It looks like he's in Arizona, California. He's still wearing his Seahawk helmet. All about the Hawks.

very effective uses for social media. Now one that I don't think is as effective. Aaron Rogers, Hawaii with my hip celebrity friends, dancing, awesome, karaoke. Now he has a right to do this. I would never, ever dispute that. But in dairy country, he doesn't eat cheese. Jeopardy, Malibu Mansion, hanging out with celebrity hipsters, who, by the way, could be the nice people in the world.

I don't think that's an effective use. By the way, it feels intentional. I'm having the time of my life and also holding out of OTAs. Do not think it's effective. I think Tom's, gosh, I'm stupid. Russell's, go hawks. Aaron's, I'm disconnected. I think it matters.

I've said this before. I think all this stuff matters. I think two things are in play here. Aaron knows Jordan Love is not close to playing. That's his leverage. Aaron does not have a ton of leverage. They own his rights. He lose $35 million if it didn't play.

There's nowhere to go. And they could trade him, by the way, to a crappy team. Like Aaron doesn't have any leverage. His leverage is Jordan Love can't play. Green Bay's leverage is two things. One, we own your rights. Number two is, Aaron's lost a lot of popularity by abandoning the Packers.

On radio shows, newspaper columns, people are pro-Packers anti-Aren. Now, the national media is more pro-Aaron. But when you're in a town, when I used to live in the Northeast, when I lived in Connecticut, there was a radio station, WFA and radio, sports talk radio. And regularly, the Jets and the Mets, especially the losing teams, but the winning teams would do it too. They would float rumors to the hosts. And the rumors, the host would talk about it.

And they would do that to see what the fan's reaction was, because the shows all took a bunch of calls. That's kind of the style back in New York. You take calls all day. And don't kid yourself, as much as the national guys and the national media can be in your camp, if local fans think it stinks, then you don't acquire that guy. Then you don't make the trade. And do not kid yourself. Why would any GM, any front office person, talk with anybody in the media ever?

They're curing favor. A little bit of a protective vest if things go sideways. So I think Aaron does have some leverage. Jordan Love can't play. I think Green Bay has leverage. We own his rights and Aaron's losing popularity. But I do think right now a lot of this, you can do yourself a big favor,

curing sympathy with your fan base. I think it does matter. I really do. I think it really matters that the more beloved you are in a city, I remember years, I'll give you a story years ago. Let's a little behind the curtain story. So I used to work in another company years ago,

a big company, four letters. And they, there was a story that got leaked out on Mel Kuyper's contract. They weren't going to renew him. But Mel's very liked in the building. Not everybody's liked in the building. I, of course, was beloved. But Mel was loved in the building.

It did not play well in the building. You're getting rid of Mel? Management, emails, people ripping them, and that gigantic company caved. Caved. Mel's a nice guy. Everybody likes Mel. He's very funny.

He can be crazy on television, but very nice guy, very funny. He gets along with everybody. Fans love him. He's great with fans. He's very quirky personality. It matters. Aaron's not doing a good job of messaging. I'm a hipster, celebrities, having fun, holding out.

And oh, by the way, the receivers are all holding out too. Now, am I worried about, I do think Aaron has one card and there's nothing Green Bay can do? I don't think Jordan Love's very good. I don't think Jordan Lund can play. I'm sorry, but the reports we got yesterday, 11 on 11, first time they moved into like real scrimmaging, 11 on 11. Sack twice, pick, check down six out of seven passes to running backs. This is a guy that played 31 college games, second year in the system. I mean, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, Deshaun, Joe, Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert last year with no TAs and no preseason.

We're awesome by week two. And I mean awesome. 300-yard games with bad offensive lines. One coach already got fired, and the Eric coach Zach Taylor, we think he can coach, but we're not sure. Just saying, we know Matt LaFlu can coach. That's not, he's gotten to NFC championship games. We know Matt can coach. He's been successful.
