Albert Breer's a senior NFL reporter, lead content strategist at Monday morning quarterback tomorrow. There's some Julio Jones to the Titans. Mack Jones has not looked good according to Tom Curran's a guy of respected for years, followed him. We've got the Aaron Rogers situation.

Let's bring in our friend Albert Brear spotless. He does great work. Let's start with Julio Jones to the Titans. So I said and got a lot of pushback is, can we slow down OBJ? Jay was going to change the Browns is that he's older, he's expensive, and Corey Davis gives you about 65 catches and six touchdowns. Well, I mean, Julio Jones gives you about 90 catches and six or seven touchdowns. I think he's a good player, but I don't think it makes them better than Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore. I mean, Julio Jones, to you, what is the impact?

I mean, I think as much as anything else, it sends a message to the locker room in Tennessee that We feel like we're ready to win now, and we like the core of players that we have. They've been in the playoffs the last two years, once the championship game two years ago, won the division last year. They lose Corey Davis. They lose Jono Smith. They had to kind of gut their secondary for cap reasons. And this is sort of a rebound type of move that shows the locker and we still believe in the core.

And Colin, if you look at the makeup of their roster, you'll really see there are a lot of guys that are right there in their window. Ryan Tannihill, Derek Henry, Taylor Luan, coming from. back from injury. Kevin Byard at safety. That group of players that they've won with for the last couple of years under Mike Frable, that group's getting a little bit older

and the window isn't going to be forever for them. And I think injecting Julio Jones at least sends a message to those guys and the rest of the locker room, they still believe they can contend with the group they have right now. So, Albert, it doesn't matter when a guy like Aaron Rogers doesn't show up to an OTA.

It's brief. You can't find him. It's not mandatory. but it does now they can fine him. So A, do you think Aaron shows up and B, if he doesn't, will they levy fines on him, in your opinion? Well, it's really interesting because by the rules, this is the last time they can sort of give that sort of forgiveness. So what the Packers do and how they handle the next three days could paint how this

plays out over the next six weeks. I don't think the money is a big deal. Aaron Rogers had a $500,000 workout bonus that he would. walked away from and skipping all of the OTAs. So he's already walked away from a half million dollars. The Packers can fine him 93,000 over the next three days, which I'm assuming Aaron is willing to pay if he was willing to walk away from the half million in the first place. So really to me, this is about the climate in the room and what the relationship's going to be like over the next six weeks between the Packers and their quarterback. Because once you get to training camp, Colin, under the new

CBA, the rules are that fines are mandatory. $50,000 per day and they cannot be forgiven after they're levied. And so really at this point, I don't think it's so much about the $93,000 as it is about where the relationship's going to be and how the tenor of the talks is going to be between the team and the player over the next six weeks. And that's why I'd be surprised that the Packers didn't excuse the absence, which is what they can do right now with Aaron Rogers. If they do decide to find him, I mean, I don't know how.

Aaron Rogers could look at that any other way, but that's a declaration of war. It really is. You know, it's interesting. Leaks happen for a reason. People want them leaked. And the Green Bay front office has had four or five leaks. My guess is they're trying to put pressure on Aaron. Aaron also make sure that you saw his cool celebrity friends in Hawaii.

That got out. So I feel like Aaron won't show up for this. This is just all hunch, instincts. I have no knowledge. is that it would look like he folded his hand too early. And I do think Aaron is trying to make an impression here. I'm in it for the long run. Like I'm over this.

Yeah. So my guess is today he's not showing. What would you say today on that? I don't think he's showing. I don't think there's much of a chance that he's showing because that would make what he's done, the way he's conducted himself over the last five months. It would invalidate all of it, right? I mean, and I don't think any of this is by mistake.

Me and you have been over this, Colin. and nothing Aaron Rogers does is by accident. He's a really smart dude. He understands the media. He understands what he's doing here. And so I don't think there's much of a chance that he shows up over the next three days. I don't think the Packers expect him to show up over the next three days. And I felt like from the beginning,

the minute he walked away from that half million dollar workout bonus, really that made the mini camp less relevant. And it made the point where the rubber is really going to meet the road with this the end of July for the start of training camp. And so much of this is about the communication between the sides and finding a way to mend their relationship. Because this really did start with the Jordan Love situation a year ago. And more than just taking love, it was the way that was communicated to Aaron Rogers.

He found out while they were on the clock that they were taking Jordan Love. So that sort of set the stage for all of this. And then I think from there, this has been about how you've built the team. And the fact that they haven't built the same level of urgency that, say, the Buccas, years have built around Tom Brady. Free agency's gone, the draft's gone, so you can't really prove to him that you're going to be building a different way. You got to ask him, like, hey, listen, trust us.

We'll build a different way in 2022. So really, the only way that they can fix things over the next six weeks is improving communication. I don't think the communication is in a place right now where he's going to show up for minicamp. All right, Mack Jones, a couple of different reports from reporters I trust. arm doesn't look lively got to fill out the body uh you know jarritt stood him out played him at times listen we my thing was they didn't have to give up picks to move up so i never thought mac jones

was a third pick especially if you surrender other picks if he falls to you and need a quarterback i don't have a problem with that so this is not to rip the patriots but just your impressions what you saw with mac jones what you saw what you heard yeah i mean there've been some ups and downs no question but i think part of that's the way that bill challenges his rookies and throw different things at them in practice. So they're going to have good days and bad days. I have heard from people inside the building that he's come as advertised. He's what they thought they were getting when they drafted him, 15th overall. And I really believe this column, the next two weeks are really critical.

Cam banged up his finger. I think that's going to create some opportunity and practice for Mac Jones over the next two weeks. If he doesn't have any shot at winning the starting job, he's got to get first team reps in camp. He's got a chance over the next two weeks to earn those first team reps. If he looks great over the next two weeks, maybe Bill decides, you know what, for every five, six reps, Cam takes with the ones in camp, we'll throw Mack a rep or two. And that's how a rookie winds up winning a job. So I think the next two weeks are actually pretty critical for Mack Jones. And remember, I think this is an important detail, especially when you consider Bill Belichick's age. One of the huge benefits of having a first round quarterback on the

roster is the benefit that you get from having him on a rookie contract. If you want to take advantage of that, really you want the quarterback rolling going into year two. It's where the chiefs were with Patrick Mahomes. It's where the Ravens were with Lamar Jackson. So you really want to kind of create some momentum over the course of a kid's rookie year. Right now, I mean, you know, with Cam sideline for the next couple of weeks probably, maybe Mac Jones has the opportunity to show them something where they feel like. All right, let's give them a chance to compete in camp and see what happens. All right, Justin Fields in Chicago's fascinating. He does some things athletically that Andy Dalton camp, and I think players see it, coaches see it.

And if you put him out in preseason, he's running around throwing darts. I think it's going to be hard not to play him really early. Matt Nagy needs to win now. What are you hearing about Justin Fields? Well, what I've heard is that really he's got a good sense for the room. And I think that's an important part of being a rookie is that he's kind of come in. And, you know, he shows the leader by example traits, but he's not overly loud. He's in his book.

He's doing his work. he's not trying to be any sort of overwhelming presence in the building he's just trying to fit in which i think is like a good sign for self-awareness with a rookie quarterback so he's coming and done that i think they see the physical ability of course and he's taking all the steps he needs to take to be able to play as a rookie as of right now andy dalton's taking all the first team reps through the entire spring the plan for right now is for andy dalton to take all the reps with the ones in camp and justin to work with the twos. However, the Bears plan is to put Justin Fields on the field a lot in preseason games. And so to me, I think it's going to be a matter of looking good with the second

team in practice and then showing them a little something when it comes to those preseason games, when you get snaps in live game action. Maybe he can make some headway towards winning the starting job there because really, as you know, Colin, a big part of this for any rookie quarterback is convincing your teammates that you're going to give them the best chance to win. And I think that's where Justin Fields is going to be able to do it. Yeah, can't wait for that. Really excited to watch him play. Played a lot of college games.

He's ready to play. Good stuff. Appreciate it, Albert. Thanks, Colin. You bet. Yeah, I mean, he's got, when you have 30 plus college starts, like a Justin Herbert, Justin Fields, as we saw with Herbert, you don't need, I mean, Lamar Jackson at Louisville, like a three-year starter.

You put him in week 11, you're like, they're ready to play. I'll give guys like a Tray Lance. You know, Mac Jones didn't have a ton of starts. Like, I'll give you a year to figure it out. But boy, once you get 30 college starts, I'm not going to be real patient. That is in today's era of seven-on-seven camps, quarterback camps, 30 starts is like three years of college football. An NFL football looks a lot like college football today. So Justin and Justin Herbert and Justin Fields, they need to be ready.

I like that. We always talk about that on this show. I love that. I love a self-aware individual. Understand the temperature of the room. He said he's got his head in the book. To me, that's somebody who's very intelligent. You understand you don't need to necessarily be humble, but you need to, you know, sometimes take a time to assess things.

Survey the room. You make good decisions, if you're self-aware. Not have 100 commercials as a rookie. It's very tasty. Very. So the Lakers season ended earlier than they hoped it would, obviously, with the first round playoff exit. It blew up my face crack. Totally.

Totally destroyed it. I didn't realize how bad the faceback. 0-4-7. No, it was a total disaster. It was a disaster. I literally came into the meeting this morning. They call me bossaruni. We're going to get rid of the face bracket forever.

Listen, it was a nice lifespan of about three face brackets, and then it's done. My actual bracket is kind of similar. It's terrible. Well, the team could look a lot different next season, obviously. But Rob Polinka is focused on keeping as much of the core together as they can. Us falling short as a team, that in some sense is going to be part of our motivation and putting in the work to getting back at it and starting training camp next year with a strong roster.

I'm convinced that, again, without some of the unforeseen circumstances this year of the challenges that we had to face, that we'd be a championship caliber team. So the goal is to try to keep that core group together. Yeah, this year, they were a championship caliber team. Well, what's the core? What's the core group? Well, okay, so the Lakers have a combined 102.6 million committed to LeBron,

Anthony Davis, Contavius, Caldwell Pope, and Kyle Kuzman next season. They also have Montres Harrell. He's a player option under contract, Marcus Sol for 2.7 million, and Alfonso McKinney for 1.9 million. So that's their core. That's the core. Okay, I would... Free agents, I would keep...

Well, LeBron A.D. KCP. I'm moving everybody else. Well, yeah. I mean, they didn't get it done, but I would also say, I agree with him. if Anthony Davis was healthy and LeBron was healthy we wouldn't be having this conversation right now. Yeah, I know, yeah.

But it's a new season. It's the same thing when people are talking about the Lakers and the heat and what happened in the bubble. That was last season. There's different teams. You have turnover. Other teams get better. Make decisions.

Make moves, make trades. So if you're just going to run it back, very rarely does that ever happen in sports at all, but you don't want to sit and rest. This is an organization that is expected to win championships. Yeah, I'm interested. Like, here's a, I'll throw one at you. So Andre Drummond, I wouldn't pay a lot for Andre Drummond, but AD hates playing the center.

He hates the five. Andre Drummond can only play the five. So that's one that's fascinating to me. I would get rid of a lot of stuff. What do I do with Andre Drummond? Because he'll do all the dirty work that Anthony Davis hates and Anthony Davis gets hurt a lot. I would also bring back Alex Truzzo. I don't know what happened with Montrez in that whole situation.

It was very weird. Now there was a rumor. I mean, he was sixth man the year last year, and then he's on the bench. I don't get it. Dennis Truder was obviously disappointing in this series as well. But to me, like you build around Anthony Davis. Great player, but he is always injured. And I don't know that that's ever going to change.

Yeah, that's not a solvable problem. Right. So to me, like you know that that's the case. Rather than trying to fit some pieces around, it's going to make it a championship team, I think you need to fit it around the fact that Anthony Davis might not be available. Like I would build a team assuming Anthony Davis isn't available. However aggressive you need to be in that space, that's what you need to do. Look at what the Nets did.

Now, listen, there's not just stars out there. It's not that simple. But you chose to bring in Anthony Davis as your number two, assuming that he was going to go into a number one, which that was your assumption. He is not available. It's just like Jimmy Garoppolo. He was just in a Super Bowl. Obviously, Anthony Davis is better comparably, more talented. but it doesn't matter how talented you are if you're not on the court,

especially in the playoffs. He's the reason why they lost that series. It's not on LeBron. LeBron is not supposed to have to carry the team at this point. And give credit to the Sons. That is a great team they went up against. So it's all the more reason why you need someone else out there. That's just how they have to build the team.

So Nick Sabin is going to be at Alabama forever. He has agreed to a three-year contract extension that will keep him with Alabama through the 2028 season. It's a new agreement that will extend his current contract by three more seasons to eight years. So he's entering his 15th season as the head coach of the Crimson Tide, won three of his last six, three of the last six national titles. So he'll be 77 years old. And then that'll be the time. At the end of his contract. Yeah. And I think he's still sharp as attack. So and he, Nick likes the process. He really does like recruiting. So I think he's fine. And I also I keep saying this. We all eat better than we used to, right?

if you have money and you can eat better, the bottom line is 77 years old, 15, 20 years ago, did not look like 77 now. Nick, if you guess Nick Saban's age, I mean, honestly, I would go 59, 60. Yeah, I agree. So, I mean, it's like Nick takes care of himself. He moves. He's very nimble. I mean, he's intellectually challenging himself.

So that's 77. There's a lot of different 77s. We've gone through a shopping mall before. there's wobbling, you know, and then there's Nick 77, and I think... Yeah, I mean, as long as you have your health and you still have the desire and energy to do it, I don't see... They're not going to move up Nick Saban, right? Like, whatever Nick Saban wants is how it's going to end there.

But he doesn't want to be pathetic either. No, but I do think similar to what's happened with Coach Kay, like, Shire wasn't, they just like pick him this year. Like, they've been grooming him over years to eventually take over. Like, that's how it works. So I do believe that he will, like many of the... these programs do have an error to the program that they start building in the last few years of his, you know, his time there. So not right now, obviously, but, you know, once he knows, okay, we're going to the end of the contract and we know this is when I planned on retiring at 77,

which is totally reasonable, they're going to have someone in place. So it's not going to be like an abrupt thing. We know he's not going to coach until he's 90. You know what? Can you imagine me working 20 more years? No. I'm going to do it just to be obnoxious. No, I don't think you are. My last 10 I won't even want to be here. Define work. Well, this barely qualifies. I mean, well, okay, but. Working with you, barely. 20 years from now, are you going to be doing three hours a day?

Well, you're a good. Well, you're a, if you're here, you're a talker. So like on days, I'm just, you know, I had a second corona light. You can fill space. You got to have a good talker next to me. At 74, there will be, there'll be segments. I'll just be in birdie, birdie land. Just tweet, tweet. I'll be looking about the weather.

Finally, flew. Floyd and Logan Paul, they went at it last night. It went the distance, eight rounds with no knockdowns. Although there's a video circulating on the internet now of what looks like Floyd knocking him out and kind of holding him up. Oh, I didn't see that. What do you mean? I saw it on my phone. When was that?

I don't know. I didn't see. I watched the whole fight. Okay. He landed a great. Oh, that's a good one. He landed the third, fourth and fifth. Mayweather landed.

I think it was the fourth that he landed a ball. Like right there. That's a good old bomb. That's not the one, though. Like, it's when he really slumps over. Oh, God, that's a shot. But look, he never went down. Even if Floyd held him up.

Like, that's a lot. It's a big man to hold up. Hey, by the way, our team, did Showtime let us use all the video we wanted to, or did they, were they picky? Because if they're picky, I'm going to blast them here. If your app doesn't work, then you give shows like me all the video we want. Does that how it works? So Showtime cut the highlights for us. Well, they gave us a couple of shots then.

If you screw up your end, then give out better highlights. Paul described the fight as the best moment of his life, and Floyd said Paul was better than he thought he was. Listen, I know everyone is talking about Floyd's not a heavyweight. Floyd's not going to fight Jake, Paul, you watch. Chris Mannix told me he's not going to fight him. Well, Jake, I think he's a better fighter. Oh, Jake is a better fighter.

And I think Floyd, you know what Floyd said right after the fight was, Logan was way better than I thought. Yeah, he said it was better. And he was better than I thought he was going to be. I didn't think he was going to be able to last eight rounds of Floyd Bayweather. And I get it. Floyd is smaller and he's older, but he's still the greatest defensive boxer of all time. Like, people get really crazy with this. That's Floyd Mayweather. Just relax. That's Floyd Mayweather, not against another fighter against Logan Paul. That is actually impressive. It's bothering me to say it.

four road playoff games. Who was the other guy that did it? I mean, this is elite class. 1970, Luow Cinder, Bucks. This kid's a showman. He's offensively gifted. You know what?

It reminds me up here. He's a little Steph Curry, but I think he may even have a quicker first step. Utah Jazz. Just enough notes. Listen, they were two and one against the clips in the regular season. Jordan Clarkson, six men of the year, Rudy Gobert's best defensive player,

and Donovan Mitchell was fantastic against pretty good adversary John Morant. And unlike Dallas, Utah plays real big boy defense. So this is going to be a real series for the Clippers. Phoenix Sons. Point God power. Forget point guard, point God. You got Chris Paul.

And by the way, now you're back up. Point Guard's Cameron Payne, and he averaged 13 points a game and shot 42% from threes. So we always know Devin Booker's the point guy, but if Chris Paul and Cameron Payne are giving you those numbers, tough out. Denver Nuggets. Not enough jokers. They're missing three other top five guards due to injury.

Will Barton, Jamal Murray, PJ Dozier. I mean, the Joker can do a lot of things. He's a point center. I just don't think they have the peeps to beat Phoenix. Los Angeles Clippers. Why not them? First team in NBA history to shoot 100% on their free throws, 50% from the field, and 40% from three.

Jalen Brown was injured. I'll defend Danny Aange. I think Danny Aange is, you know, there's some that may be better, but Boston's kind of rebooting the whole process, and they need somebody. They're probably going to have to move a Jalen Brown, Marcus, Smart to get a running mate for Jason Tatum. Washington Wizards. Deal for Beal. He was great. he's been great.

The franchise has not lived up to their end of the bargain, getting him a two. I think it's time in Washington to start over. Dallas Mavericks. Give Luke a love. Listen to this. He scored or assisted on 77 points in game seven. That's the most joy in league history. You've got to get him a two.
