made simple.com. Well, we said earlier today, it doesn't bother us. There's a new rule on our show. If your NFL franchise drafts your replacement in the first round, you don't have to go to minicamp. Let Jordan Love get the snaps.

Aaron won the MVP. He doesn't need the snaps. I wouldn't find him. There are times I've been critical of Aaron Rogers, but increasingly, Tom Brady won a Super Bowl. He didn't go to an OTA. with a new team.

He didn't go to a minicamp. He didn't go to preseason. And he won the Super Bowl. Aaron Rogers doesn't need to be at this stuff, to me. And if I was Green Bay, I wouldn't find him because that looks petty. But, you know, again, if you draft

my replacement in the first round and move up to get him and he needs snaps anyway, Jordan Love needs snaps, I'm not going to show up to minicamp. I have no problem with what. Today is Defend Aaron Day. James Jones played with him for a lot.

long time. Eight years in Green Bay, Farr Van, Aaron Rogers, joined us now live. So, we've been discussing this today, is that the truth of the matter is, years ago, in the NFL, you've got to play preseason. And then Sean McVeather-Ram said, I'm not going to play my best players in spring season.

And it didn't matter. They went eight and no to start the season. OTA mini-camp, if you're going to ask the players to play 17 games, increasingly, I think veteran players should have the right to say, I'm not showing up to some of these mini-camps. Does it bother you at all that Aaron's not there? Not at all, because the most important thing is making sure Aaron Rogers is there for training camp and getting ready for the season. You don't need to be there for minicamp. You do not need to be there for minicamp.

He's going to show up for minicamp or what? Take two reps on the offensive side of the ball and all the other players are going to get all the reps. There's no need to be there. The most important thing is making sure Aaron Rogers is there for training camp. Minicamp means absolutely nothing. Even back in the days when I first came in the league, guys weren't showing up for mini-camps. And then they tried to put little incentives in your contract to try to make you show up, and guys still weren't coming.

Listen, OTAs, OTAs mini-camp does not matter. As long as you're there for training camp, ready to go, ready to rock, and ready to try to go chase the Super Bowl, that's all that matters. And that's all that the Packers should be focused all right now, is getting 12 back in there for training camps so they can go chase the Super Bowl. You know, I said this earlier today, too, that I defended Aaron on this, is whereas Mahomes and Alan and Brady and Garapolo are getting immediate help. The last two drafts for Green Bay, they've drafted a project at quarterback,

a second round running back who had no chance of getting major snaps, six offensive line, five of which are developmental. And my takeaway is Aaron's looking around going, I don't need interns. I need players. This is the part where I defend him. Did he ever voice opinions to you ever? That he was a little frustrated by the organization

tends to be all about development and protecting the future and other guys are getting gifts in free agency and gifts that can help in the draft. Well, you know, he knows that that's how the Packers been since he's came into the building. They've been a draft and developed organization. And yeah, we only have one Super Bowl to show for, but we've had a lot of success doing that.

And he understands that. But I think for him, the most important thing is it's not about who you're bringing in. I can't control who you draft. I can't control who you bring in a free agency. But what I do want a little input on is the guys that you're letting out of the building. You know, when you got guys like Jordy Nelson's who willing to take a pay cut to play and you're saying, no, get out of here anyway. You're going to play with these guys that we got here.

You know what I mean? Sometimes that could tick you off a little bit. Sure. Jordy Nelson can finish census for Aaron Rogers. That's because this other guy can run a little bit fashioning them. doesn't mean I'm going to get more success with this other guy. So I think as the guys that's getting out of the building that he's seen walk out of that building and still wanted to be in Green Bay and still could have been key tributers to win in a championship,

you know, that you let out of the building. That's what's the most frustrating part to him, I believe. It's not about you can't control who the organization brings in. They're going to draft who they want to draft. They're going to trade up and get who they want to trade up. You just got to go out there and play ball. But if it's guys that's been in that building that you know what they mean to your team and you see them keep walking out of the building consistently, you know,

that's what raises a red flag to you and ticks you off a little bit. You know, at the end for Farr, there was a little animosity between Farrv and the Packers, and there's obviously some animosity with Green Bay and Aaron Rogers. Could I make this argument, James, is that it's the smallest professional market in America, and when you become Farrer Aaron Rogers, literally the most popular, iconic quarterback in the league outside of maybe a Brady or a Peyton Manning at the time, that it's a weird fit anyway. You've gotten bigger than the organization and that the Green Bay organization doesn't love that.

They don't love when you get so big you feel bigger than them. And there's a little insecurity within the walls of that tiny little town in the Packer organization. Well, they sure love it because they've been blessed to go from Brett Farr to Aaron Rogers and not have to be out there chasing quarterbacks and trying to draft 100 quarterbacks and trying to find the right fit. But yes, you're exactly right. It's a small market.

You know, the quarterback absolutely does get bigger than the organization, get bigger than the guys up there. And they want to kind of say, look, we're in control. We have this thing. And listen, Aaron Rogers is fine with that. He just wants, hey, can you listen to me? Hey, I'm out there on the football field with these guys 24-7. I know what certain guys can do and contribute to this ball club. And it's not just on the football field.

It's in the locker room as well. You know, it's not like I'm trying to have more power than you and say, hey, man, this is my team. No, this is your team. You're the GM. I'm just, let me have a little. input on what I see, what I know, I'm with these guys 24-7. But you're exactly right. When you're a quarterback in Green Bay and you have a lot of success like Brett Farb and

Aaron Rogers has, has had, hey, listen, it's their show. At least that's what it's going to look like. And that's how the fans are going to treat it. But that's not how they went about it. If, I mean, Aaron, basically three or four of his friends, you're one of his closer allies, have all come out and said the same thing. It's fixable. which tells me if they get rid of the GM, he'd come back.

If they don't. What does fixable mean? Does fixable mean the GM has to be gone? Does fixable mean a public apology? When you say it's fixable, how do you fix it? Well, I've talked to Aaron. I talk to him all the time. And he's told me that it's not about the GM.

It's not about new money. It's not about the GM. You know, so when I hear everybody on here say, you know, it's about getting the GM fired and these things. It's not about that. And that's why I say from my conversations having with him, that's why I truly believe that it's fixable, because what he's told me in the conversations that we have

and me knowing Aaron Rogers and being close to Aaron, I truly believe that it is fixable. You sit down, you go over the things that, and talk about what you need to get ironed out and, you know, what's more important to him and, you know, the organization and things like that. And it's fixable. But it's not about getting the GM fired.

And he's told me that, you know, So with that being said, that's why I truly believe it's fixable because he's willing to go in there and make sure they can get this thing right and get it fixable and go out there and put the best football team on the field and try to compete for a championship. And that's why I truly believe that he will be there for training camp. This will get fixed. And I think the relationship will get much better between him and the gym. So what is his number one beef? His number one beef, what is it? His number one beef is a private conversation on the phone that I can't share with you.

No, I mean, like I said before, he doesn't care about who you bring in there. You know, he loves his teammates. He's always out there ready to ride for his teammates. And he wants to keep some of the guys that has been in that building, man, that helps this team win, whether you think they may be done. You know, like I said before, he's seen a lot of guys walk out of that building and leave and go play very good football. And it goes back.

It's not just about this past season. It goes back. It's a lot built up into. You know, it goes back to the Charles Wussons, the Clay Matthews, the Julius Peppers, the Jordan Nelson's, you know, the James Joneses. You know, so he just wants to make sure that, you know, a lot of guys like that that may not, you know, be scoring 15 touchdowns or getting 15 sacks or 15 intercessions. But, hey, these dudes are big in the locker room for the young fellas. You know, they're key parts of this team to go win the championship. And I think that's what's most important to him.

Jordan Love, another report out today that's not exactly encouraging. Do you believe if Aaron didn't show, he would be ready to start week one and be able to win NFL football games? You know, that's a tough question for me because I haven't been there at practice and being able to see Jordan Love go out there and see his development and see how he looks. So that's a tough question for me to answer. You know, some of the stuff I'm hearing out there, you know, it's ups and downs. You know, you have good days. You have bad days. So, you know, you can't expect him to go out there and play like Aaron Rogers.

You know, I think that'll be unfair to the young fella. So I don't know how many games they'll win, how well he'll do if he went out there. But you can't expect him to go out there and win 13 games and be Aaron Rogers and make the throws that Aaron Rogers make. So until I get to see a little bit more of them, whether some preseason games, whether we're able to make it out here to training camp and see a little bit more of them, I don't have the answer for that for you. When will you talk to Aaron again?

I don't know, man. I don't know. It's not like I plan in the Texas to say, hey, let's talk tomorrow or something like that. It just happens, man. So, you know, I'm sure we'll connect again soon. All right. Just checking. James Jones, good seeing you, man.

All right, man. Thanks for having me. So minicamp today in Green Bay. Aaron didn't show up. There is a report that Jordan Love struggled today in a two-minute drill. The first two-minute drill, the media had been a last. to see and it was not good. It's kind of interesting that his beef isn't over the GM.

Well, they let his Pro Bowl center go, Corey Lindsley, let him go to the Chargers. It's another good player. It is funny. My takeaway on that was you drafted him in like the fifth round, so you never paid him. Isn't the whole game in the NFL that you draft guys in the fourth, fifth, sixth round, they become really good players.

You get them for free. And then when you have to pay him, It doesn't hurt as much because you didn't pay him anything in the first four rounds. No, no, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. You would think that's how it works. So the bucks are rewarding their Super Bowl winning head coach and GM. Both Bruce Ariens and Jason Light have reportedly agreed to new contracts with the organization. The revised contract for Ariens doesn't add any more years, but it does include a pay.

Hay raise and Light's new deal ensures he'll remain in Tampa for multiple years. Ariens is going into his third season with the team. He also said in May is no plans to retire anytime soon. And GM, Jason Light has been with the buck since 2014. So they're keeping their leadership structure in place. Brady or not this roster, they were the only NFL team this year that didn't draft for need. They drafted for depth. and I'm going to tell you something,

I can't think of another team in the last decade in the NFL that went into a draft with no needs. And they brought all their starters back. So, I mean, they went and got an edge rusher from Seattle, at University of Washington. They got a backup quarterback. Neither one will see the field.

So, I mean, you got to give, you know, Bruce Ariens and Brady get the love. Jason Light, that team is insane. It's 7, 8, 9, 12 pro bowlers. It's really interesting what the Bucks are doing bringing back all of their starters. Because in general, we talk about this all the time. Usually tweak.

People have been talking about, you know, the Lakers and, you know, the Celtics and the heat, like teams that were in the bubble last year and they're frauds and, you know, their Super Bowl hangovers and things like that. But you have turnover on a great deal of your roster each season. So it's very difficult to compare year to year. You can compare certain players year to year. But overall rosters, it's just very lazy to just compare them year to year. Well, this year, they are literally running it back.

So it'll be interesting to see how their season ends up turning out because they haven't made any tweaks, at least to their starters. Like, obviously, the rest of their roster, they've made some moves. But the starters are going to be the same. So it's an interesting experiment. The Blaze is a part of ways with head coach Terry Stott's after their elimination in the playoffs. And according to the athletic, Damien Lillard is not making any demands. As the team searches for Stott's replacement, the front office will be communicating with Dame throughout the process. and it's been reported that he'll have a major input in the next hire,

but he's not demanding anyone. Jason Kidd withdrew from the Blazers coaching search after Damian Lillard said that's who he wanted. So he has a 183, 190 headcount overall when lost coaching record. He was 44 and 38. And one season has a Nets head coach, but he is no longer in the conversation. So I don't know. I think it's kind of interesting that he's not making any demands as the head coach.

Maybe he doesn't want to put his stamp on something if he's going to try and find his way out of there. Oh, that's interesting, take. So he doesn't want to, that's interesting. Like I wouldn't want to demand to bring somebody in if I wasn't planning on being there long. Hmm. Right? Yeah, that's interesting. Seems like a courteous way to go about it.

I do think if the Clippers lose to the jazz, and Mike Conley's not going to play, I'm getting there's reports on that, so that really hurts the jazz. a little bit. I would love them to go after Paul George, but I just don't know who they can get. I mean, again, I think they can bring in a bunch of good players, but I just don't think this team, listen, man, this year, Denver, Jamal Murray got hurt.

He's back. You know, I mean, it's like LeBron and AD are not going to be that banged up. Clay Thompson comes back. Like, if you're going to, if Portland gets run out in the first round, fourth time five years, this year, West is going to be better. next year. Dallas is going to be better. Luca, I mean, Memphis is going to be better, no question. Phoenix should be better as all those players.

I could just see Dane being loyal. Like, it's kind of similar to Beal. I mean, I get it like people are only as loyal, you know, until they're loyal until they're not loyal. And I don't believe in it at all. Like, this is a business. This is your legacy. And if you've given years to an organization and they haven't been able to put

pieces around you to match what the direction of the sport is going in, then it's on you. Like, you've chosen, obviously, to stay there, and that's good. That's fine if that's your decision. But if you don't end up winning championships, like, that's how it plays out. I think we all just want to be able to see Dame in a space where he can get to the finals and have an opportunity to win a championship as an all-time great player. But different guys have different motivations with their careers.

So the NBA playoffs continue with two more games tonight. First, the 76ers hoped even their series with the Hawks. Fox bet has them favored by six in game two. Then the Jazz and Clippers kick off their second round series. Utah is favored by three and a half in that matchup tonight. And there's a Mike Conley story out there I saw during the commercial. So he's out. He's out with the right hamstring strain.

For the whole series? He's out for tonight. I still like Utah, but I'm not sure I'd bet it now. For tonight or overall? I have to watch the first game to make a determination. so I'll watch the first game time. I'm having pizza tonight. You haven't pizza?

I'm going to go big pizza night tonight. Fox Betts odd for the series. 76ers are minus 138 over the Hawks and the Jazz are minus 133 over the Clippers. I think it's been a good series. I think six is a lot of points for tonight for the Sixers. I don't know. You know, it's weird.

Some of these teams, like Philadelphia, I know is a really good team. But man, in that first game, Ambed was great. Simmons wasn't. M. Bede was great. And it didn't matter. Yeah. Atlanta's playing with house money. They're playing with house money, and they're playing really balanced basketball. Like, yes, Trey Young is amazing and he's unstoppable, but the rest of the team is contributing. Joy with the news. Good stuff.

Count me out. There will be major reworking with the Lakers. There's no question there. So the question is we're going to play LeBron or LaGone. Who will be back with the Lakers? Joy set me up. LeBron James. All right.

He's stand. LeBron, Stan. Okay. Let him in point. let him an assist. He's under contract. He wants to play with his sons. And I will say this.

It was a condensed season. So LeBron, in his 18th year, got essentially, instead of 120 days off, 6570. So he came into this year in a bad mood. He didn't want to play in the All-Star game. He didn't want to play on Christmas. He didn't want to play early. LeBron's going to be a top five player in the league next year. But I don't think he's going to play all the games.

I think you have to take his minutes down to like 31 a night. On top of his 18th season, he also has played an additional 3.25 seasons in his career due to postseason games. This will be the longest off season he's ever had in his life, Joy. So to think he's going to disappear, LeBron's going to come back and have a very good season. Anthony Davis. He'll be here. He'll be here. Yeah, he's owed $35 million each of the next three years.

he is their most impactful player. When he plays well and is aggressive, they win. Again, he's a brittle player who had no offseason, came in out of shape, tried to play himself into shape, and it just didn't work. He was constantly banged up. He also shot a career low field goal percentage. The good news is it was still 49%. So I think he is going to be more committed emotionally and physically.

I think LeBron is going to get after him. I think the Lakers, Rob Polenka, it's going to come to Jesus meeting with him. It's like, you've got to come into camp in shape. I think he will, and I think AD will have a rebound year. He'll go back to being a really high-end all-star. Dennis Truder. Ligon. O' for nine shooting in game six.

He's seeking over 20-plus million annually. The Lakers already made him an offer of four years, $84 million, an extension, and he turned it down. so he's going to go big contract hunting. I think there are times I like him a lot. He's a good player. It comes with some drama and he can be really inconsistent, but I think he's gone. Kyle Kuzma. Lagon.

He's gone. Well, I mean, he didn't, he never started a playoff game. He's a bench guy. I just don't think the body language. I think LeBron gets frustrated with him a lot. He averaged six points in the playoffs. He's making a lot of money for six points. He can start for somebody in this league, a middle team.

I think LeBron's over him. Contavius called ball poke. I would say LeBron. I think LeBron likes him. He's rep by clutch sports. He's just one of five Lakers under contract next year. You know, it's funny. If you take Dennis Schrooter out and maybe West Matthews out,

I kind of felt like he got lost a little bit this year in the rotation. and I would have to look at the minutes, but there's things I like about him. He's long, he's never afraid to take a big shot in a big game. He was great in the bubble last year. But I kind of felt like they were a little guard heavy this year, and it was more inconsistent for him in the rotation. And he just never quite got it rolling. But I think they bring it.

I think LeBron likes playing with him. He's a dog. He'll take big shots and big moments. Andre Drummond. I'm going to roll the dice and say LeBron. LeBron. Here's why. Anthony Davis hates playing the five. They have no other big. He led the team in rebounds.

He's the only Laker that averaged over 10 points a game. So they're going to have to rework his contract. But you know, you got to have a body in this league when you're playing six or seven teams. When you're playing Denver or you got a Utah. You got to have a big. I think the Lakers figure out a way to keep him, and it also allows Anthony Davis to play his most favorite position, of course, and that would be the four. Montres Harrell. Lagoon.

That's another reason you keep Andre Drummond. Listen, he was a six man of the year. He said after the playoffs, I played what I was asked to play. Obviously, he was in. Vogel loves Biggs, and Vogel and he did not work. There was a reputation last year. He and Doc had their issues. You know, he's averaging six points a game, not a lot of minutes.

I just think, I think they're going to make a decision. They'll keep drumming because drumming's a better rebounder than Trez. I think they think he's a little bit more dependable personality, so I think Montrez is out. Alex Caruso. He'll stay, LeBron. LeBron Jones. Alex likes LeBron and LeBron likes Caruso, and they actually play well together. They really do.

They're the opposite of LeBron and Coosma. their body language is terrible. LeBron likes Caruso. They play, he plays, he's got a twitchy athletically. And so I think this one is one of these where I think LeBron James would absolutely go to bat

for Caruso. He comes to the, his price is fair, and he's good on the court with LeBron. Wes Matthews. Probably Lagoon. He signed a one year, three and a half million dollar contract. Nothing against him. He's been around. He can play.

he's 34 years old you know I think they'd like to draft it I think they'd like to you know if Schroeder and West Matthews go I think that saves up some money and they'll go after they'll go after some guard in this league but I the bottom line

is he did not make the Lakers better they were outscored by 36 points when he was on the court in the playoffs Marcus O Ligon Ligon he just you know there were a lot of people that said he was washed when he came here

he played a little bit more in the regular season but there wasn't a real fit for him. You know, I mean, he played when Anthony Davis got hurt. But I think Drummond's the guy between Gasol, Trez, and Drummond, Drummond does give you something at an elite level. He's a top five rebounder in the league. You know, he, by the way, Andre Drummond's a guy that gave Brooklyn problems. So, and there's enough teams in the NBA that have a big that you do need some size.

Anthony Davis is more of a finesse big. And so we have LeBron Stan, Anthony Davis, Stan. KCP staying, Drummond staying, and Caruso staying. Sounds about right. Yeah. If West Matthews and Schrooter are gone, it tells you they're going to probably go somewhere in the market, look point guard.

I think they need another star. Well, I don't know if there's any stars available, but... Not a lot. Jamal Murray's going to be back next year. Clay Thompson's back. Thompson is back next year. I do think it needs to be said. We're pretty down on Anthony Davis.

But he is going to get, LeBron's going to get the longest offseason of his career. Anthony Davis is out. So, I mean, just do the math. When do you report to camp? When were you off? These guys are going to get 120, 10025 days,

130 days. Well, I mean, he's still recovering for the injury. So once he gets recovered, then his offseason stars. Anthony Davis is going to get, what do we, he's going to get June off, July off, August off, September. When's the season start next year? Is it Christmas? When are they starting the season next year?

So, I mean, Anthony Davis is going to get four months off. The first month he's just going to rest. And he's going to probably last eight, ten, you know, ten weeks of working out. So they go back to the old schedule. So they'll start in late October. So he's going to get four straight months off. AD and LeBron will be fine next year. Don't count them out.
