And however, you may be listening, IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1 as we embark into Hour 2. By the way, there's a interesting list I'll get to in a little bit by the NFL pro football focus. Total disrespect to a player in the NFL. Before I get to Mark Schlaher, I want to introduce Joy Taylor again. Joy, how are you? Doing good. I'd be back.

It's good to have you back. You know, I think almost when you travel, there is something about my daughter all the time. My daughter loves to travel. She always comes back with a sore throat. Always, every time. Every time. I'm pretty good about it. Like even like before the pandemic, because I would travel so much, I'd always have like hand sanitizer and wipes and stuff.

I remember when everything shut down and everyone was like there's no hand sanitizer? Right. I was like, I have loads. Like, who needs something? Yeah. There's great to have you back. Thanks. Sean Marks runs the Nets.

Sean Marks is the GM of the Nets. And, you know, he's talking about a little bit now, you know, when you're very visible and you got stars and you get bounced in the second round in the weaker Eastern conference, you know, there's going to be people that come out and sling their arrows at you. And here's Sean Marks talking about that. Is it disappointment? Yes, without a doubt. You know, we're going to own it.

We're going to grow from it, as Steve mentioned. And, you know, we'll be better because of this. And we'll progress through this. And we'll learn from, you know, the roller coast a ride that was this last season. But, you know, I don't look at this as failure. I don't either. I don't view it as a bust or a big failure because I was a skeptic day one. It's interesting. I've watched people react to Lamar Jackson. So when Lamar Jackson came out of college, my takeaway is I know he's a great athlete, but he doesn't throw a beautiful ball.

I worry about him on third down. You know, third and 11, you can't run in the NFL. How will he be? Well, the fact that he's won 80% of his games, people are critical of him. I'm like, Tom Brady hasn't won 80% of his games. Lamar Jackson, an amazing story. He's a wonderful success story. I still don't think he throws a top 10 football in the NFL. But I didn't have this. He's going to be Peyton Manning thing. Ben Simmons, that's disappointing. Carson went Sam Darnold. I've been disappointed. But we've got to be honest about this. Just say this out loud. Rookie head coach, no bench, not a rim defender. Kyrie Irving has a history. of injuries and some erratic behavior.

James Harden is ball-centric, meaning he will take shots from Kevin Durant and Kyrie. And Kevin Durant's coming off an Achilles surgery. Say those out loud. Second round is, you know, and I admit, after they blew out Milwaukee in the first two games, I jumped on the hype train. But then Kyrie got hurt.

Like, just say all this stuff. They have no bench. They're not really good defensively. You're asking Kevin Durant to play 48 minutes, 53 in overtime. That's not a championship team. You know, there are certain teams that are better movie posters than they are movies. Right now, the Brooklyn Nets are a great, they're a great movie poster. Kyrie, Steve Nash, James Hardin, Kevin Durant.

That is box office. But there's no bench. They don't show any of a bench. So they're a better poster than a team. The Cleveland Browns right now. Jadavian Clowny. Nick Chubb. Coach of the year Kevin Stefansky, Odell Beckham, Miles Garrett.

That is a hell of a movie poster. I'm not sure. Maybe they are, but I'm not sure they're the best team in their division. Baltimore could be. So right now, I don't really trust Kyrie or Kevin's health. Right now I don't trust in a big spot, Baker Mayfield. So the poster's better than the team. I could be proven wrong.

Certainly possible happen before. But that's where I stand today on that. So Tom Brady went in a show undisputed. Maverick Carter and a LeBron James production company. And Tom Brady wanted to be on three or four teams. That's been, Dan Patrick said he had the three teams. They were the Bears. They were the Chargers and they were Tampa.

I thought the list was four because I did think Tom at least considered the Colts. That's what I believe to be true. Although Tom, I don't think, I think he eliminated them, Peyton Manning's team very early. But Brady was talking about his sort of, I was it whittled down to a handful of teams. One of the teams, and they weren't interested at the very end. I was thinking, you're sticking with that mother. Now there is a belief it's Garoppolo, but here's my argument. Garapolo and Brady have the same agent Don Yee.

And so if Brady's always very aware of his image, if Brady said that, you're basically ripping Don Ye's second biggest client. And so that questions whether Don Ye knows what the heck he's doing and his judgment. So I don't think it's Garoppolo and Garoplo just got into a Super Bowl. But I think it's Trubisky. Because Trubisky, we ran down the teams earlier. The Chargers didn't have a quarterback. Remember, Tom says sticking with a quarterback.

So it has to be somebody that's been there. Well, the Chargers weren't sticking with anybody. The Colts weren't sticking with anybody. and they went and got Philip Rivers. They weren't sticking with anybody. The Chargers went and got like Tyrod Taylor. They weren't, and drafted a quarterback. They weren't sticking with anybody.

The Bears were sticking with somebody. The Niners were sticking with somebody. The Saints were sticking, but I don't think he'd badmouthed Drew Brees. So Mark Schlarith joins us. I am told he thinks it's Garoppolo. He is joining us now live Fox Sports NFL analysts. Three Super Bowl rings, multiple Pro Bowl. So I am in the, I am in the,

Because I think Trubisky, because now he's a backup, that joke's funnier now because Trubisky's a backup. Now it didn't. And now it's kind of a funny joke inside the room. You think it's Garoppolo, I'm told. Well, I thought, I mean, initially, I listened to what you just, the knowledge that you just dropped, and maybe I'm wrong, but that was my initial thought. Garoplo is my, because there's, there's two things.

There's two things. One is that the, the assumption was that Bill Belichick took. chose Garoppolo over Brady until Papa Craft came in and said, no, we're moving. Garapolo, right? And then I've always had this theory that if you're as handsome or close to being as handsome as Tom Brady,

you're going to get moved. Like, Danny Amandola no longer plays there. Like Jimmy Garaplo on the handsome chart, there was questions whether he was as handsome as Tom Brady, man. That's why I couldn't coach in New England. I'm just way, or excuse me, in Tampa now. I couldn't coach for Tom Brady

because I'm just too handsome, he'd have me move. So those are my two theories, but I like your Trabiski theory. I actually like the Trabisky theory because it does make sense, especially when you've watched the struggles that Trabisky has had over the course of his time in Chicago now being a backup in Buffalo. So that does actually make sense. All right. So here we go.

Pro football focus is coming out with the 50 best football players. Now, it's a positionless ranking. They don't care what position you play. but it was interesting. DAC was 50, and people will say that's disrespectful. I looked at who they had 40, Josh Allen of Buffalo, and I thought, you think there's 38 players, 39 players better than Josh Allen. Josh Allen last year, with no running game and an okay offensive line,

completed 69% of his throws, 107 to 107 passer rating, ran for half of the bill's touchdowns, 37 TDs, 10 picks, also caught a touchdown. And I thought, you think DAC is going to get the publicity here. I honestly said this earlier. If I was a general manager and positionless, it's hard to be positionless because we know what quarterbacks matter. I would make an argument, Josh Allen is in that Aaron Donald thing, 6-6, fast, huge arm, athletic.

I don't know, you're a player. I mean, I look at that and I think there cannot be 39. players better than Josh Allen in the NFL? Yeah, no, I would agree with that. I mean, first off, I don't ever rank quarterbacks in football player rankings. I look at them completely different. It's a different, it's just a different animal. So I always look at the football players, then I look at the quarterbacks differently.

But if you're putting, if you're putting the quarterbacks in that equation, I mean, you think about when, when I was doing a Buffalo game last year for Fox, I sat down and I'm thinking, you know, run the football. I'm thinking about old Buffalo, like, I'm just thinking about what makes sense in cold weather and all this time and physical, you know, and all this stuff. They're a spread football team that is completely dependent upon their quarterback. Yeah. Not only throwing the football, but also running the football. He's a large part, especially in the red zone, of their run game. And so you look at the value ad that Josh Allen has based upon, hey, we're getting in four wides, maybe a tied end.

We're going to do a lot of things here to spread people out, give you the opportunity to eviscerate them in the passing game. And, oh, by the way, when we get into the red zone, you are a run game. So, you know, just from the overall weight of what he has to do to make that team successful, I think that end of itself would lead you to believe that he should be much higher rank than 40th. Yeah. By the way, it's interesting. Sean McVeigh came out again in the last couple days and essentially told everybody how great Matt Stafford is and simultaneously is telling you how bad Gough was. It's interesting.

He was talking about Stafford this week and he said, man, he is a bad blankety blanker. Whatever people say about him, he's better than advertised. the guy's ability to see the game, the feel. It's pretty unique, man, his authentic way of connecting with teammates and coaches. It's great being around Matt Stafford. So I read that and I think, okay, I get it. You and Goff had a falling out. But I have a theory behind this and I'll throw it to you.

Is that McVeigh, he has two or three peers in this league, right? Contemporaries. Kyle Shanahan. Matt Lafleur and him. Shanahan's beating him four straight. Matt LaFleur beat him the only time he could face him. And McVeigh, and maybe he's right, is blaming Goff for in these three brilliant young head coaches.

We've got three we think are brilliant. He's now third. And he's taking it personally. Am I wrong? Oh, I don't think you're wrong at all. I think you're 100% right. And, you know, I mean, you think, you think guys in a locker room or competitive men, coaches are incredibly competitive, right?

And egotistical, I think you think the egos are big downstairs in a locker room, walk upstairs to the coach's office. There's not a coach that doesn't believe under his expert tutelage he could fix anybody, right? So, yeah, you're offended when it doesn't work out. You're upset when it doesn't work out. I'm 100% with Sean McVeigh. Matthew Stafford is an elite-level quarterback that played in an organization that just didn't understand how to win football games. I think he had one, in 11 years, I think he had one time where he had a running back rush

for over 1,000 yards with Reggie Bush, and it was like a thousand and three or something. Yeah. Right? I mean, it just never had a defense, a running game, any of that stuff to really take the pressure off. And I think one of the things that is going to be really interesting with Matthew Stafford here is we call it, or

Sean McVeigh calls it the illusion of spread. Right? How much is spread offense they look like initially because there are a one-back, you know, three-wide receiver, 11 personnel grouping. But man, this is a smash-mouth football team. It'll be the first time that Matthew Stafford has played somewhere that they really are considering, how do we run the ball? How do we run it effectively?

What is our identity in running the ball, which I think is important because it opens up all the play action that comes off of that. And there's a difference column between what I call run action versus play action, right? to really get people to take that extra step on run action plays, right? You've got to run the play. You've got to be sold out. They've got to see it on film. They've got to work against it.

They've got to do all those things to really get that, oh, shoot step, right? Where you take one extra step and all of a sudden you're out flanked and you're in trouble. Like, he's never had that. And he has it now. And I'm completely intrigued with the Rams and what they're going to bring to the table with Matthew Stafford. I think he is an elite level player. He's elite in the pocket, manipulating the pocket, moving around.

And I'll tell you what Bruce Ariens told me, doing a Detroit game last year. He said, one of the only quarterbacks I've ever left the locker room early just to watch him warm up. He's one of the toughest guys I've ever watched play on film. And he's one of the guys that I just want to watch him throw the football because I think he's remarkable. And I think that's how most people in the league feel about a guy. that hasn't had a lot of success, you know, from a win standpoint, but is a pretty incredible player. So Carl Nassib, and it does take courage, unfortunately, in America, if you're different than a lot

of people, there's negativity. I have not been on social media at all today, really. Joy told me it was very positive, which is, I think it really encouraging that Carl Nassab came out, said I'm gay, given $100,000 to the Trevor Project. You know, you've been in those locker rooms for years. just kind of your thoughts on it. Yeah, my thoughts is like, you're right. Courageous, you know, I think all those things, all those superlatives are great because it is.

But I've always felt this way about the NFL. I've always felt like the NFL locker room is a very accepting place regardless of what's going on. If you can play, nobody cares what you are, right? You know what they care about? Are you a football player? And if you're a football player, and Carl Nassib is, he's a really good football player. Like, that's, that's, that's all they care about. That's all you care about inside a locker room. Now, you know, one of the things about a locker room and one thing about guys in general is, like, I know my college buddies love me because they are going to flip me so much grief. Like when we get together this summer, they're going to flip me so much group. If they didn't, I'd be concerned, right? Because that means that's how guys show love to one another. So, you know, you walk into a locker room. That's part of the acceptance aspect of it. And, you know, I'm sure there'll be a, you know, a feeling out process like, what's okay, what's not okay.

But the bottom line is Carl Nassup can play. So as long as you can play, man, we're good with you. It's all good. And so I'm excited for him to kind of, quote, quote, live his truth. I'm excited for what this does as far as taking pressure off of other players. because you know, you know, just statistically, there's going to be quite a few players on, you know, a couple players on every team. Yeah.

See you. So I think I talked him into Mitch Treviski over Jimmy Garoplo. It's very good detective work by you. Well, the key is, is sticking. When Tom Brady said, you're sticking with that. guy. Yeah. You're not going to say sticking with Tannahill who just beat you and was playing great.

You're not going to say sticking with Garoppolo, who is just in a Super Bowl. Yeah, I mean, you have to think of who is saying it too. Sticking. Sticking. He's a very deliberate person. There's always a very self-aware person. Yeah. He's not going to call someone out, like to your point that was just in a Super Bowl.

Yeah, sticking. You know, it's funny because Anne and I, we like murder mysteries. And it's incredible. She figures them out eight minutes in. I can't. It's just frustrating. Well, you know, women, we have a... Whatever it is.

Women's intuition. She's just like, oh, he's a creep. And I'm like, he seems wonderful. And then he ends up being an axe murderer, right? Like, that's just the way... Everything we always watch, she just figures it out early. I don't understand why women aren't just like the CIA and FBI are like not exclusively women.

I can find anything out about anyone. You can give me... I have a friend who I just send a picture to and she can find his, like, like address, and I shouldn't be saying this. But yes, women are, we're good at this stuff. So Anne is amazing. She, Anne has talked about before wanting to be a detective. She loves figuring these things out.

She loves jigsaw puzzles. She loves going, I mean, dead serious here. If we have a mechanical problem in the house, she loves figuring it out. I don't. I just call somebody. My phone. I don't go that far. I call someone too.

But I've learned a trick from her. There are certain words that are used in a sentence and the words the key. the key to Tom there is sticking. So that eliminates the chargers. It eliminates the Colts. Sticking is Trubisky. The only other two that it could be are Garapolo. Tom and Jimmy have the same agent Don Yee.

He's not going to crap on Don. And the other one it could be is Ryan Tannihil, but he had just beaten him and outplayed him. So it would make you look insecure if you said that. It's good work. It's so fun. Okay, you love it. I would say National Letter of Intent Day for me. I'm a college football guard. Yeah, that's important. Ping pong lottery. Well, we'll get to a little bit. We'll get home run derby would be way.

That's like your number one or something, isn't it? It's up there. I love it. I've gone to it. I went to the one in, when we were in San Diego. He's amazing. It's so fun. Home runs are so fun.

You just watch people hit home runs. It's brilliant. Okay. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Oh, no, you're, I've said,

only two things in America, the public likes I don't in sports. Pro Bowl won't watch it. Home run derby, goofy. I feel like the Pro Bowl is more fun to go to. Oh, yes, Hawaii, of course. But even when it was like in Orlando, like it's fun for fans. Like if you're a huge fan, you can bring your kids. Yes.

Players are very accessible. I'm not necessarily watching the Pro Bowl. So I'm with you there. But the home run derby is definitely fun. Yeah. So Chris Paul has a player option worth over $44 million waiting for him with the sons. he reportedly wants to decline it and sign a new deal and Magic Johnson thinks his former team should make a run at him

because CP3 would be a great fit with the Lakers. I would tell Jeannie, I would add some money to get CP3, you know, because it would be perfect for LeBron, it would be perfect for AD, and be perfect for the role players. What has Chris Paul done for the Phoenix Suns? He makes the game so easy, and you're going to get shots that you've never gotten before, right?

I love the way Chris Paul thinks the game. See, he has that Laker mentality. Oh, I mean, everyone would love CB3 now. I don't think, I don't agree with magic. I think the reason he was so great in Oklahoma City, New Orleans, and the sons is because he had young guys. The minute he got veterans, by the way, Hardin and he struggled, Blake and he struggle because Chris is a barker.

He's not easy on veterans who have a stack of money. Yes, but I do think that the Lakers have a unique veteran style. What happens when he calls out Anthony Davis and mocks him from having a dad bod? How's that going to play? I don't think whose dad has a bod like Anthony Davis. Well, he's going to get on him because Chris Paul is going to be like, dude, you break down again. You're not committed. Yeah, so I think he would get along with LeBron.

Obviously, their friends, but I think their styles would match very well. well. Maybe someone like Anthony Davis might not, I don't know how much barking LeBron does at Anthony Davis. KCP, I'm not, like a lot of those Laker guys. I do think you're right. I do think he works best with a younger team that wants to learn how to elevate. Yes. And he is, that's obvious. We've seen three different. Yeah, the evidence is there that he does work in those situations. He got New Orleans and Oklahoma City and the Sons into the playoffs and they were all bad. I think the sons are the best example because Devin Booker is a star, right? And now the whole world is getting to see what he's actually capable of because he's in the playoffs and,

you know, advancing in the playoffs and playing the way that he is. But CB3 is the one that made all of that glue come together, like elevated the talent that they had along with Monty Williams. So yes, I agree with you. It's a perfect situation for him. But what are they going to do with him? So he signed a four-year, $160 million contract with the Rockets in 2018. He's the second highest paid player in the NBA this year, 41.3 million. He reportedly is set to decline his option because he wants to ink a multi-year deal,

100 plus million. So he has a player option for 44.2 next season, and the deadline is in August. So he'll become a unrestricted free agent after next year. He could end up somewhere else. If I'm the sons, I'm probably just figuring this out. Yeah. Although, you know, if Chris says I want four years And they're like, okay, we'd like to.

I get it. But I would argue that you didn't do much of anything without him there. He clearly has extreme value. I think you eat the later years in order to have him as the leader and have him continue to elevate the younger players there over the next couple years. Yeah, I mean, the NFL will never give you the extra years. Baseball will give you five extra years. basketball probably needs to give you one. But we've also learned that basketball contracts

like... You can move them. Yes. You can move all of them. There's been so many contracts. Like, it's unbelievable. It's going to be stuck there forever. Like, no, he's not.

So it's not that terrifying. So Tom Brady discussed his free agency experience during an upcoming appearance on HBO's The Shop Unenurrupted. And in a promo for the episode, he recalled his feelings when one team decided to stop pursuing him. One of the teams, and they weren't interested at the very end. I was thinking, you're sticking with that mother. Oh, boy.

I swear it's Trimski. Now, Tom would deny, because Tom's a nice guy, he didn't want anybody to guess, you know, or land it. But I will argue all day long, it is not Garapolo. I don't think it's Garoppolo either. No. This is going to be a must-watch episode, though. I wonder how much more context he gives in the full episode on it. I'm with you as well.

I don't see him calling out Garapolo. But my takeaway from this is what it's been for the past year. I love that we're getting to see this Tom, which I don't think even if they were still winning in New England, we would get to see. We're getting to learn this whole new side of Tom Brady. Also, we found in his text, remember the deflate gate, his competitive nature with Peyton Manning. What Brady is really great at is when you get these glimpses every three or four years of Brady, his language. I know two or three people that know Tom pretty well. Tom's emotional discipline to be angry and never do it publicly,

he's one of the most disciplined athletes of all time. Like a lot of guys can't help themselves. They just rush to Twitter. They rush to Instagram. At a post-game press conference, they can't handle it. The real Tom can be a beer-guzzling, swear like a sailor, as normal as any. But he never lets that out unless it's one of these moments.

he is really disciplined. This idea, you know, you and I always say this, we really don't need to hear every one of your opinions. Keep it to yourself. No. Tom keeps 99% of his real personality to himself. And I think there's a, I think it's an underrated talent. Like Russell Wilson, I think what you see is kind of what you get all the time. Tom, there's a side to him that's really funny.

He's not going to let you see it. Well, I think you're right. But I think that this is also maybe a good lesson. for everyone that, you know, you don't know everything about everybody. And especially when you get to the level that Tom is on, you can be strategic with what you show people. Like, Tom doesn't post his lunch every day. I still assume he eats food.

Right. You know, like, there is some, there is some value to keeping things private. Yeah. And allowing the world to see parts of you when you feel comfortable with it. And that's why I think it's so cool that you're actually getting to know a little bit more of like what Tom Brady is as opposed to what you assumed he was because he was in this very structured system in New England. But there's nothing wrong with that, of course, but it's a new world now.

And also, you know, having seven championships kind of gives you a little space to air it out. So Eli Manning is back with the New York Giants. The organization announced that Manning will participate in business operations and fan engagement roles with his former team. He'll also collaborate on original content development, including a new lifestyle series premiering this fall. And in addition to hiring him in the front office, they're going to retire

the number 10 jersey and induct him into the Giants Ring of Honor on September 26th, which I think is very well deserved. You know what's interesting about all the Mannings? So Peyton could do anything he wants, but he likes to just joke around and have fun. He's got great sense to humor. Eli could do anything

he wants, but he wants to deal with fans and players. And Cooper Manning's, and laugh out loud, funny guy. It speaks well to the Manning the mom and the dad. Like, these guys could do anything they wanted in their lives. All of them, just like people, like joking, they're funny, they're smart. I mean, Eli, you think, well, he's a Southern guy who'll go back and do his thing.

It's like, no, I want to engage with a team and be with the team and be with the fans. Eli's a really remarkable story. The fact that his dominant brother didn't overwhelm him. Yeah. I mean, to literally, we've seen superstars and their kids get overwhelmed. don't even want to play the sports. The fact that Eli Manning is so utterly comfortable being Peyton's younger brother and not being nearly as iconic, he's completely, all the, I know Cooper pretty well,

all the Mannings are completely comfortable in their own skin. That's like good parent. Totally different. I am like a fan of Eli Manning because I don't think I'm that boring, but I do like consistency. And man, Eli does not get an. enough credit for how consistent he is or was in his career. He has, he had 210 consecutive regular season starts. That's the third longest streak by a quarterback in NFL history. So you can say whatever you want about like his last years and how like inconsistent he was on the field,

but he was always available. And it's funny, when you hear Cooper and Peyton talk about him, it's really, there's got to be a piece of tape. I've heard it, I've read it twice. I'm not sure if I've seen audio. When they talk about Eli, it is so funny because even when he was a little kid, they're like, yeah, stuff never bothered him. Like Peyton would be screaming and getting upset and Cooper would be crying and mad. And Eli would be like, you guys got to go out and jump on the trampoline? He was built for New York. He was built for New York. He just, it's, Pete and Cooper are like, nothing ever bothered him. And it's like, if stuff bothers you, New York unravels you. And he was so perjutor's got a lot of that yeah derrick jeter just every day never get too high never get too

So, when you want to trade a player, say nice stuff about him, don't let stuff leak in the locker room, and Philadelphia is going to move Ben Simmons. How do I know that? Because Darry tried to trade him last year. Darry is Mr. three ball, Mr. Analytics, Mr. MIT. A guard that can't shoot, a forward that can't shoot is not his cup of tea, especially for the dollars. And you can move every contract. Ben Simmons could play for Golden State in Phoenix, Golden State, excuse me, in Portland, it would be a good fit. And there's plenty of

places he could. But it's not with a team with a dominant big and doesn't have enough shooters after Seth Curry. So he's not going to be in Philadelphia. Remember, people could say, well, Westbrook went to Houston when Darrell Mori ran it. That was Tillman Fratita. The GM wanted some star power. That was

not Darrell Mori's call. He's not a Westbrook guy. He's an analytic guy. He likes guys that can shoot. He's one of the guys, the early adapters to the three ball, Mr. Analytics, Mr. Make a shot is not a Simmons and Westbrook guy. So he's going to get traded. Doc Rivers is starting the rehab tour with Ben Simmons.

I believe without going in detail what we're doing, I believe we know what the right work is and the right type of work and the right way to do it. You know, you can do the work all the time, but if it's not done in the right way and the right type of work, you may not improve. After being here for a year, I really do believe we've identified what and how. And now we have to do the due part.

We have to work to do it. It's not going to be an easy job, but it's definitely a job that Ben can do. All right. So we're going to do what's all fine here. We've got a little problem. We'll fix the problem. And the reason you do that because you don't want to do what the Philadelphia Eagles did.

And Simmons and Carson Wentz are these very unique talents. They're bigger than people at their position. They're really strong. There's an athletic ability that's like legendary. Carson Wentz, big, six, five, strong, huge arm. Ben Simmons, six, ten and a half point guard, great defender. But the game got into both of their heads. And Ben Simmons can't hit a free throw, and Carson Wentz couldn't throw a screen pass.

He got the yips. He could not throw the ball eight yards down the field without skipping it. The difference is the Eagles, a lot of bad stuff leaked. The game's in his head. he's hard to coach, he's difficult. And that stuff started leaking out because Philadelphia, as we later found between the owner and the GM was a very political place. And everybody was trying to save their bacon as the Eagles struggled, right?

The GM was, the owner is, the coach is, the coordinator is. And so what do you do? You blame the quarterback. Oh, the quarterback, he's bad. He's uncoachable. He can't, it is very difficult. Nobody likes him. The problem is when you move Carson Wayne, you can't get anything for him.

So the Eagles got nothing for Carson. whence the Colts stole him from the Philadelphia Eagles. Stolen. The Sixers are going to do the opposite. Ben's a good kid. Ben's got a lot of talent, got a little free throw thing. We're going to fix it. It's all going to be fine. And that's the way you do it. That is the way you do it. Learn from the Eagles. If you got a player and it's going sideways, the last thing you'll want, and this is why we found this out in the last year, Joy and I have, the Philadelphia Eagles were much more political than I knew and Pride Joy knew. It was like a big political mess.

When you got political situations, everybody's trying to save their butt. And as Carson Wentz regressed when, you know, the Frank Reich left and nobody really connected with Wentz, everybody was trying to save their butt. So the easiest way to save your butt is rip the quarterback and leak stuff to the press. But you kill his leverage. Nobody wants him now. And Philadelphia basically gave him. And if he ends up, and I think he will be a really good player, Philadelphia's going to look ridiculous.

Like Colts got their franchise quarterback for a nickel. It's going to look terrible for Philadelphia. The Sixers are going to do the opposite. They're going to defend Ben. Say he's great. By the way, don't be shocked. If there's not video that doesn't leak in the next two or three months, Ben working on his free throws, suddenly you're seeing stories leaked.

He's really coming around. He got his confidence back. Then you move him. That's how it works. other story is listen you go to college with guys guys are weird right

you go to college with guys you go to the same broadcasting school and you kind of compete you keep your eye on your buddies how are your buddies doing and we're all like peers contemporaries and you're in the same age same class and if they do better than you you know

it hurts a little bit so Sean McVekeye Kyle Shanahan and Matt LaFleur are tight they're boys. And Sean was the first to get the head job, and he hit it out of the park. He was the wonder boy of the league. I mean, good God, if you had an interview with him, a coffee with him, once, you got a job in the NFL, Zach Taylor.

I mean, if McVeigh walked past in a shopping mall, you got a job in the NFL. He was a wonder boy. And then, and it started kind of a turn because Matt LaFleur got the Packer job with Aaron Rogers, and now he's in back-to-back NFC championships, one-to-no against McVeigh. and Matt and Kyle Shanahan has now beat him four straight times often with a backup. Now, is it McVeigh's fault? Did he forget how to coach? No, Goff struggled.

In fact, this morning, I mean, he really struggled. Goff really struggled. So if you go back to Jared Goff's four straight losses to San Francisco, he completed 56% of his throws, four TDs, four picks and a 70 passer rating, three of them he passed for under 200 yards. golf was awful. But bottom line is, Kyle was beating him often with a backup. So he is 0 and 5 in the last five times he's faced his contemporaries.

So I think there's a little bit of that. Sean came out, Boy Wonder, looked great. And he's taken multiple opportunities this offseason to say how great Matt Stafford is, which is kind of also simultaneously saying, that guy we got rid of. So here's another Matt Stafford compliment.

I think I've been very happy. Everybody says, man, you just seem like you're in a better mood this offseason. I said, you're damn right I am. That's about the third time he said something wonderful about Stafford. Now, McVeigh is hearing that people like me are going, you keep growing golf under the bus here. So McVeigh would like to clarify these comments. I hate that I even have to say this, but I think I made a comment earlier that was definitely taken out of context.

I am very excited. I have been in a good mood because of the confidence I have in this team, but by no means is that a slight to anybody, you know, like Jared, who has done a phenomenal job for the last four years here. There's a reason he came out and said that because he knows it looks bad when he constantly says how great Stafford is. Nothing was taken out of context. We took the exact quotes. Listen, your buddies, your contemporaries, your boy wonder, super bold, and all of a sudden now, Goff, and it is overwhelmingly, goff just hit a ceiling. The Rams are also kind of a top-heavy organization. They don't have a ton of depth.

One or two injuries on the O-liner running back, the girly situation, your right tackleer, your center gets hurt. And suddenly, Goff's not a guy in a muddy pocket that's very good. And by the way, San Francisco has got a great pass rush. The Rams offensive line sometimes got a little overwhelmed with the Niners' pass rush and San Francisco's won four straight against Sean McVeigh. Nothing was taken out of context. The reality is guys are competitive, McVeigh's super competitive, and you start losing five straight games to your contemporaries.

It stings a little, especially when you were the first to get a job and you hit it out of the park and it feels like, wow, the pendulum has really swung. My guess is the Rams are probably, probably, going to win the division this year because I do think Stafford is good. I still think the franchise is too top heavy, but I think Stafford gets an upgrade in culture, head coach, O'Line, Cam Acres, wide receivers, and defense. Stafford's going to be great. He's going to be great this year. This is a 12 and 5, 13 and 4 football team, even in that division. So all of this will be forgotten. By the way, the Rams do play in week seven, I believe, the Lions and Jared Gough in L.A.

Look at the lion's schedule. They'll be like one in six or 0 and seven one of those when they meet. So McVey will look right, which, by the way, he is. Hour three in L.A. next.
