Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, what's good, y'all? You're listening to Learn the Hard Way with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games.
Starting point is 00:01:10 This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you're not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen and learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:01:39 Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversation. with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to The Clifford Show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok.
Starting point is 00:02:11 Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1. Find your local station for The Heard at Fox Sports Radio.com or stream us live every day on the iHeart Radio app by searching Herd. Now let's get this party started. You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Ah, here we go. We're live on television.
Starting point is 00:02:36 It's the herd, wherever you may be, however you may be listening. IHeartRadio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1, hour number three. Great to have you. You know, it's funny, Simone Biles is the greatest gymnast in American history, and she said yesterday she just was not in a great space mentally and step back. She has five events left. She may come back. Probably comes back.
Starting point is 00:02:54 But I think we were saying this earlier, you know, guys predictably, well, what if LeBron didn't step up? LeBron had a series. It's worth a 30 for 30. LeBron had a series before he'd won a championship. And this is basketball where there's a game tomorrow night. Joy was there. So LeBron, D. Wade and Bosch go to Miami.
Starting point is 00:03:17 There's a massive pressure on the greatest basketball player in the world. When you get to play, you can have five turnovers in the game. game, shoot 40% and still win. You can make mistakes. Gymnists get one shot 90 seconds, train eight years for it. And you're representing America. LeBron half the league's rooting against him. He shows up against Dallas and he melts. And LeBron acknowledges game got in his head. Yeah. He would not post up J.J. Berraea. He was afraid, and I love LeBron, he was afraid to shoot the basketball. We saw Ben Simmons in the playoffs this year. Afraid. to shoot the basketball.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Six, ten men. So all you guys out there, she, what if LeBron, Ben Simmons and LeBron, terrified to shoot a basketball. And they have a season next year. And a quarter and another basket. And Michael Phelps,
Starting point is 00:04:17 ready, set go, representing America. One stroke off, you lose. Yeah. He retired twice. and talked about suicide. She is the greatest gymnast ever. Already has 27 golds in the Olympics at 24 years old and in the world championships. As Joy noted, they changed rules to try to make it more fair.
Starting point is 00:04:40 It's what they did with Tiger Woods and golf courses. And she steps back last night. Folks, take a deep breath. Get out of your tough guy, alpha male, shirt off in your bathroom, your avatar, you zeros. you do not understand the pressure on ice skaters and Olympians and swimmers and gymnasts and track and field stars who was the hurdler there was some hurdler some recently i'm watching some hurdler and some world championship and you know they train 11 years she did her heel caught a hurdle nicked it boom over i mean is a matter of tensile
Starting point is 00:05:23 of hundreds of seconds of difference between winning and losing, yeah. So it's like people take a deep breath. Well, it's just, it's a lack of awareness. Like this type of pressure has always existed. These type of demands and expectations have always existed. There wasn't a space for athletes to talk about what it does and the impact of it and how much it affects your success or lack thereof.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Listen, if you want to make this about gender, I can give you 15 examples. Bill Buckner through the legs. LeBron, Dallas. I can give you, how many, you know, there's a lot of this, Matt Ryan, fourth quarter. You know, people are like, he's not, we've seen our quarterback shrink.
Starting point is 00:06:06 We've seen our shooting guards shrink. There's plenty of examples of people. It's called the NBA playoffs, quote, unquote, choking. Every year. Sometimes that's a physical thing. Sometimes it's a mental thing. Greg Norman, Masters. I can give you 15.
Starting point is 00:06:19 And in no way am I saying that she did that. Like she removed herself from the situation. I'm not in a mental space to deal with this. Yeah. Like I'm not right. It's like, okay. She's got 27 golds at 24 years old. Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:32 She has 19 gold medals in the world championship. The next person has 10. You're woke. No, I'm reasonably lucid. No, it's called being an adult. Like it's okay to say mentally you're not in a good space. The fact that we keep encouraging people to to avoid their emotions and, mental stability. I got myself, I was talking to my nephew. My nephew was crying about something
Starting point is 00:06:55 he shouldn't have been crying about. And I was like, big boys don't cry. And I actually stopped myself like, you know what? I shouldn't say that. That's a toxic thing to say. Right. That we've been taught to say to children and to boys that they shouldn't cry. What are you crying about? What are you upset about? Use your words, communicate. Like that's a better way. Yeah. And we're not even going to say progressive because that word terrifies people. It's an adult, mature way of handling things. Right. Nobody likes someone who has no control over of their emotions and can't make good rational decisions. It's the right thing to do, and we need to start encouraging athletes to do it more often,
Starting point is 00:07:28 and not even just athletes. Sports is a microcosm of society. This is a reflection of where we are as society. It's okay to talk about not being okay. So woke. Sure that guy's awesome at parties. All right. Dave Wonstat in 15 minutes, the great American football storyteller.
Starting point is 00:07:51 live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
Starting point is 00:08:13 embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care where you're saying.
Starting point is 00:08:33 Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast. The Clifford Show.
Starting point is 00:08:51 This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast, it's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking.
Starting point is 00:09:40 What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jette. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
Starting point is 00:10:06 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Starting point is 00:10:25 Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust.
Starting point is 00:11:16 I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway. Starting point is 00:11:49 He now joins us live from Chicago. So Aaron Rogers got his flip-flops on and his shades on. He just kind of saunteres in, Dave. What do you make of the situation in Green Bay? Well, I can tell you this. I was on the radio this morning here in Chicago, and the Bears fans enjoyed it while it lasted. okay and now it's back to reality we all see the pictures he's back we've heard the quotes and uh so
Starting point is 00:12:18 so the bears are focused on what they got to do but you know my spin on this thing calling everyone's it's not about Aaron Rogers i mean i came to the conclusion you know doing this for 40 years that players are motivated by two things and everybody wants to talk about the rings and everybody wants to talk about pride but but i really believe that it's peer and money. That's the two things that get players playing at the highest level they can possibly play. And when you look at this situation, Aaron Rogers, number one, he's got to play big this year. If he wants to leave and be a free agent and get the Packers draft picks or whatever the deal says, he's got to play big again. So you got, and then the other thing, too, is the contract.
Starting point is 00:13:05 He's playing for a new contract. I know everybody can say about the money, but that's part of it. So I am not worried about Aaron Rogers. My focus is on the head coach. Think about this for a minute. Every head coach has a window where you got to hit it big. And in some programs, it might be five years. In some programs, it might be two years. But when you talk to Packer fans,
Starting point is 00:13:30 there was enough doubt from the media, from the fans, I think probably inside that locker room, that how the Packers lost that game in the playoffs at home to Tampa, that, you know, that window is closing real fast on Matt LaFourne. And he knows it. The other thing that Matt LaFourne,
Starting point is 00:13:52 I feel bad for the guy because now here you got your quarterback coming in. The club has made concessions. Remember how Green Bay won last year. Yes, Aaron Rogers MVP, phenomenal year. You know, we know first ballot hall fame but they ran the football Aaron Jones was one of the top rushing running backs top five in the whole NFL
Starting point is 00:14:16 Yeah so you know and so my point is this Matt Flore he sees that wind the floor he sees the window closing and at the same time now here's Aaron Rogers does he want to throw it can I stand up in front of this team and say this is how we're going to do it we're going to be balanced and we're going to run the ball again and I mean, I just think the guy's in a real tough spot. That's where I'm going to be focused all season, following him how he lets this offense and this team unfold. Well, no, it is absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:14:49 What you're basically saying is, and I said this earlier, Carson Wentz, new team, Matt Stafford, new team. If they come out, and Tom Brady's already done it, and they add juice to the team, it'll help Aaron Rogers. Because now you've got like three guys that left. But to your point is Matt LaFleur, probably looks at this team and thinks, I'm going to run the football. I got a new offensive line.
Starting point is 00:15:13 I don't want Aaron in the crosshairs of this thing. It is interesting. If you were, I think I asked you this before, but I want you to re-address it. Would you address all this as a coach this whole offseason, or do you just pretend it didn't happen? Oh, no. You have to, I mean, you're going to, he's going to be upbeat. I guarantee you it because he, we know the chance that he had without Aaron Rogers. Let's not kid ourselves that.
Starting point is 00:15:37 So he's excited. How far are you going to go with letting Aaron Rogers do what he wants to do? Now, you know what? I don't let's just hope that Aaron Rogers goes in and says, hey, we got to be balanced and we got to do what we did last year, coach. I'm on board. I mean, now everything is clean. That's what Tom Brady did.
Starting point is 00:15:58 When they were throwing the ball down the field, and we talked about it calling last year on the show, and Tom's getting hit in the moth and he can't get the ball. and he can't get the ball. Tom basically said, time out, put drunk in there. We need to run the ball. We need to give me some protection, block. And that's exactly what Tampa did the last half of the season.
Starting point is 00:16:17 And it was the difference in their season offensively and the difference in Tom. So I think we just got to keep, you know, that Matt LaFour has got to hope that what they did last year to win. Justin Fields. That Aaron was totally involved in that. And he was totally all in, as we say. He was totally bought in to the balanced attack. That's what you better hope for if you're Matt LaFloric Green Bay. Okay, again, the last time the Bears won a road playoff game, you were head coach.
Starting point is 00:16:46 I got to ask you about Chicago, a team and organization, GM coach down. You know everybody in that organization or seemingly everybody. Joy and I have gone back on this is that what Justin Fields could do, Andy Dalton can't. There's going to be days at camp, coach. He's just going to look spectacular. He's a big-time athlete with a big-time athlete with a big, time arm and and that's not always the case i mean tua in miami is not a dynamic athlete hell fitzpatrick is a better athlete than tua but justin fields is going to have days at practice and in exhibition
Starting point is 00:17:17 games where that locker room is going to watch him and think that kid's great how do you balance you probably promised Andy dalton start one how do you balance it when you've got this wildly talented new player. He's probably the better athlete. The players have seen it at practice and on film. Do you think Matt Nagy's going to have a real balancing act in that locker room? I'll tell you what. If you went out on the street right here and asked 10 people who the starting quarterback is for the Bears, I think that eight of them might say Justin Fields. I mean, the garage swell up here for this kid is phenomenal. It truly is. And if, if, if, If I'm Matt Nagy, I'm going to call in Andy Dalton's in a tough spot.
Starting point is 00:18:09 And I've lived and died in this town. I know these people. Everybody's just waiting, unfortunately, for Andy Dalton to fail. The first time that he plays bad and throws interceptions, you know, the media is going to come unglued. The fans are going to come unglued. And the locker room is probably going to have some doubts. And so I don't, it's going to happen. When is it going to happen?
Starting point is 00:18:33 I have no idea. For Andy's sake, I hope it doesn't happen. I really like the Bears this year. I think they're going to have a great year. But Andy Dalton, you talk about a quarterback in the country. I don't know if there's anybody that's under more pressure right now than Andy Dalton, because every throw will be evaluated by everybody. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Dak Prescott, he says, I want to play. And then you think to yourself, I don't know if I want him to play. But I do think there's a psychology, Dave, that when you've been in, injured, it's hard to get back on that bike. I remember Tom Brady getting hurt, and you could tell for a year. He didn't like anybody near his feet, near his knees. He wasn't comfortable. How many snaps do you play DAC coming off that injury in the preseason if you're Mike McCarthy? Oh, I would play in a couple series. I mean, there's no question about that. And it doesn't matter how many passes he throws. You're going to get all that evaluation from practice. But I do think he needs to be
Starting point is 00:19:33 in the huddle and you can run the ball and i and you know what this is your great opportunity i mean you you call in zeke zeke elliott and say zeke zico you know we're cotton on you you know we we got to get back back in the flow of things and you're going to be the guy they get those offensive linemen i look i'm picking dallas to win that division and i think they're a playoff team and i don't think it's going to take much to get that defense back on track they're going back to the old four three that Dallas was running there since Jimmy and myself, we went there. They got away from it. They're back to that.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Their players fit that mold better. I think Dallas is going to be a better football team than people give them credit for. I really, really do. By the way, I think Cincinnati is going to be vastly improved. Cleveland's roster is great. Baltimore sensationally run. What do you make of your Steelers this year? Bad O-line, coach.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Not a good O' line. Yeah. I know. And they got a new offensive coordinator. We know that. You know, I love the running back. Harris that they drafted out of Alabama. I think the kid's a real player.
Starting point is 00:20:44 And, you know, we're talking about seeing how Matt LaFleur is going to handle this thing. I'm anxious to see what they do offensively with Pittsburgh. Because I know what Mike Tomlin wants to do. I mean, I know Mike Wano. Mike wants to run the football and play defense. They got a top five. defense in the league and then when he has opportunities to make plays make plays so whether they make that change or not i mean i think we're going to find out about the steward's future for
Starting point is 00:21:10 the season and week one i want to watch i watch the first quarter of that first game and i'll tell you i'll have an answer for you then exactly which direction i think that arrow's point for them this year all right you're going to a steakhouse steakhouse or italian tonight in chicago oh probably Italian tonight. I think I'm going to go over to Fonos over in Little Italy. Joey de Bono, my buddy, get some good, homemade sausage and peppers. You know, it's the
Starting point is 00:21:39 best in time. Yeah. Oh, my gosh. You know, Dave knows everybody there. Chief of Police. Anything goes wrong. Flat tire to your alarm goes off at your house. Do you need a new offensive coordinator? Dave knows everybody in Chicago. Good seeing you, coach. All right, Colin.
Starting point is 00:21:56 Good talking to him. Bye. Dave Wonstat. one of the he knows i've been in this business 30 years he knows everybody everybody i'm not joking and he has the best stories he knows everybody there were stuff happening with the buccaneers last year he was telling me in my ear watch what happens watch what happens i got a guy i've got a trainer and i'm like dave always has a guy but he's also the one of the most likable human beings Oh my God. In the business, like in life.
Starting point is 00:22:31 I ever tell you my Dave's story? So I used to go to Naples, Florida. And I'm talking about Naples. It's a neat little thing. Yeah, I love Naples. And I said, you know, Dave, there was a place down there. I love that it was called Handsome Harries. It was a great bar.
Starting point is 00:22:46 He goes, I own it. I'm like, Dave, you know everybody. Dave was the first celebrity I ever met. Oh, that's right. In Chicago. He literally said, I own it. I said, what happened? When I sold it, I didn't like my business partner.
Starting point is 00:23:01 And I'm like, that place was great. Someone should make a movie about Dave. A 30 for 30. Just call it Uncle Dave. I know a guy. That's exactly what you'd call it. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:23:14 Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. I am a big, I know a guy person. If I know somebody, you know somebody, I am not doing it myself. You have to have one of those in life. You have several. You're from Pittsburgh like Dave You guys know everybody
Starting point is 00:23:30 Pittsburgh people You hang together You trust each other We know some guys I'm a passive aggressive Seattleite We're all the way up in the corner We don't get along with anybody
Starting point is 00:23:38 Pittsburgh's very low-key like that That's how we like it So the NBA draft is on Thursday I know It's a good draft There's so much going on The Pistons have the first overall pick Oklahoma State Point Guard
Starting point is 00:23:50 Cade Cunningham Has been the presumptive number one Pick for a while but Detroit is reportedly not fully committed to that yet. They're still considering the USC big man Evan Mobley and Jalen Green of the G League. There's four great players in this draft, like four that are guaranteed be good. Well, the pistons of the number one pick, then the rockets, the calves, as usual, and the Raptors. What's interesting about the next few days is there's been conversations that the Warriors are interested in trading.
Starting point is 00:24:19 so there could be some move within the next 48 hours that's very impactful because they have the 7th and the 14th pick. Well, yeah, I heard a story that Pistons were offered, a player from the Thunder and like the 6th pick and turned it down. Now, that was just an internet rumor. Right. But my takeaway is the first four guys, Jalen Suggs Gonzaga, Jalen Green Gleague, who's a ridiculous athlete, Kade Cunningham. you just saw as a 6-8 point. And Evan Mobley from USC,
Starting point is 00:24:53 who they say as Chris Bosch, but a better defender. And he's an interesting player, not because I live in L.A. A year ago, he was like, bottom of the first round. Like, that kid has exploded. In the last 18 months, Evan Mobley has gone from second round, late first, mid-first.
Starting point is 00:25:14 There are arguments to be made. He could be the number two pick. Oh, I mean, there's conversations that the Pistons might be. I take him number one. Now, a lot of people are still assuming they're going to go with Kate Cunningham, but yes, he's going to go in the top top four for sure. So Saints receiver Michael Thomas is expected to miss several weeks to start the season following his ankle surgery in June, which is a very strange situation. They've had some, you know, a little bit of,
Starting point is 00:25:40 I don't know what I don't call it beef, but, you know, some misunderstandings, it seems. Yeah, Michael Thomas and the Saints, they usually, the players love the Saints, but that's been a weird one. It has been weird. It's like Julio Jones and Atlanta. Some just off. Yeah, and I don't believe the rumors that he purposely waited to get the surgery. I just, I don't, why would an athlete purposely miss
Starting point is 00:26:01 regular season games? Most of these guys have bonuses. They make more money if they have more catches. Yeah, so I don't buy that. But the team now has to find a replacement to help fill the void until he returns. So they reportedly worked out several receivers and decided to sign Chris Hogan. Yeah, we know him on the show not too long ago.
Starting point is 00:26:17 He went to Super Bowl with the Patriots. Yes, nine-year career and spent some time recently in Premier La Crosse League. His 2020 season, he had 14 receptions, 118 yards, and five games. Good hands, possession guy. He's not Michael Thomas, but he can get you four or five catches a game. He's a possession guy. No, but you're not going to find Michael Thomas right now. He's not on the market.
Starting point is 00:26:36 He's not on the market. And you already have him. He's going to be back after a few games. But all this stuff going on with the Saints, my takeaway is, look at Brady. I mean, that division is the Bucks. I was assuming it was going to be more of a struggle year for the Saints anyway, having losing Drew Brees. You don't know who your quarterback is yet. Like there's a lot of moving parts still here, but here are the bucks running it back.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Tom Brady in a great situation once again. Listen, you can be great and you can also get more breaks than anybody in Lee history. Listen, you need a little luck in life. He gets a lot of it. Got to be great. Tom gets a little. But you need a little luck in life. Well, when you endure for a long time and you just keep doing the masonry, just keep laying bricks and you last forever,
Starting point is 00:27:19 you just, what happens is if you're available all the time, you just get breaks. Because over time, people, their stuff breaks. Well, I also think you have to be smart. Look at your career and manage your career. Make good decisions. Keep good people around you. Invest in yourself. You know, you look at successful people.
Starting point is 00:27:37 I really like to study what successful people at the top of different businesses and different career paths do. And there are ties to what makes people successful. consistency, self-awareness, the team you have around you. Do you invest in yourself or are you busy trying to find the quick thing to invest and make it and take shortcuts? Like there's a way to become extremely successful in life. And a lot of the greats do the same things. And Tom Brady has had some breaks, but he's also put himself in great situations. And that helps.
Starting point is 00:28:08 So the NFL has made it clear that players who are unvaccinated will have stricter protocols to follow those who are vaccinated. The stipulations place a premium on wearing masks. being socially distant when mandated. They also put restrictions on the number of people and types of venues. Players can gather in for social or team-related events. And any time an unvaccinated player is in violation of procedures. Anytime.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Anytime. He will be fined $14,650. So if you aren't wearing your mask, if you're in a room you're not supposed to be in. By the way, that means you're fine $25,000 because you have to write the check for that. You got to make $25,000 after taxes to write a $14,900 check. Well, I mean, they're just going to take it out of your check. You're never going to see it. Right out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:55 You go, bye. It's like, oh, I want to go. Oh, I don't have that. Look, last year, a lot of people are comparing last year to this year. That's not realistic. Last year, there was no vaccine. Of course. Everyone was still trying to figure out what was going on. Everyone was still figuring out what the rules were and what was safe and what wasn't safe and how to get through a season without rescheduling. And all of the leagues did an incredible. job managing all this. And don't forget how crazy it was last year. Do we remember the Ravens
Starting point is 00:29:23 situation? Oh, there were some-K-M-Newton. Like, there were so many examples of where things really could have gone off the rails and they managed to keep it on. So this year, they're not going to play any games. If there's an option to help eliminate cases and keep things under control and you choose them to take it, then you have to deal with the consequences. Stop comparing last year. No. We didn't have a vaccine. We do now. So it's like anything else in life. If you got a life preserver in the boat, there's no excuse for somebody falling over and you're not throwing them the life preserver. Right. Okay. So we've got a life preserver. It's preserving life. It's called a vaccine. So if it's available and we're going on to these rocky seas of a season, you got to use it.
Starting point is 00:30:01 You got to take one. You can't have a boat, leave a dock anywhere in America without a life preserve. Exactly. And there's a million things that are in place legally to help protect people. We talk about seatbelts, life preservers are another thing. There's all kinds of rules and regulations that we have in place to protect people from themselves. I went on a boat in Santa Barbara this weekend. The first two minutes, they talk life preservers. You're not allowed to leave the port without it. Oh, what about my liberty?
Starting point is 00:30:28 My freedom. That's a regulation. Have you ever been on a plane where they didn't go through the safety procedures? Yes, they do. Whether you're paying attention or not, they do it or they're not pulling the plane out from the gate. And years ago, when they didn't have oxygen masks, they didn't have the speech. Now we do and we have the speech. I don't listen to every word of it, but we have this beat.
Starting point is 00:30:47 But you've heard it many times. Yes, I have. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Live. Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Hey, it's me, Rob Parker.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:31:40 Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documentation. it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'm saying.

Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little bit? Kim, well you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English.
Starting point is 00:33:19 Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so you all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS. a table right now.
Starting point is 00:33:45 Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:34:02 Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
Starting point is 00:34:22 we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person
Starting point is 00:34:40 while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. We're going to play Aaron or Air Out? If Aaron Rogers would be interested in these teams or these teams would be interested in Aaron or not, if not it's Air Out, Joy.
Starting point is 00:35:24 The Raiders. Air Out. First of all, Derek Carr just came off career highs in multiple categories. He's only 30. He's absolutely in his prime. They were the 30th ranked defense. Derek Carr's not the problem. He's the solution.
Starting point is 00:35:40 They have a million things to worry. about not paying 38 million for a quarterback. It's also probably not the offensive line that Aaron Rogers wants to go to. The Broncos, Aaron or Air Out? Aaron. First of all, we know they want Aaron. There's been multiple reports. Teddy, Bridgewater, and Drew Locke, when it combined eight for 20 last year.
Starting point is 00:36:01 But if I'm Aaron Rogers, I'm not interested because who's my coach? Vic Fangio is kind of a lame duck coach. They're not going to win a bunch. The division is full of really good offenses. he doesn't have one. You've got to be able to score. So if I was Aaron, I'd stay away. The Browns.
Starting point is 00:36:18 Air out. They have the best offensive line and arguably the best running game. Baker Mayfield is going to have enough success that they will pick up his fifth year option. So I think Baker and Cleveland will be a playoff team and there'll be no need to elevate to Aaron. The Miami Dolphins. This is a great fit. Air on. Tua got benched twice in the fourth.
Starting point is 00:36:41 quarter. They have a ton of weapons. Does everybody get how good Miami's weapons are? They drafted Jalen Waddle. They had Devonte Parker. They got Will Fuller. They've got Mike Gassicki at underrated tight end. No state tax. It's an international city. His fiance is an actress. So Miami's uptown. This one, Miami to me, plus it's the AFC. Nobody is discussing Miami and Aaron Rogers. This is a perfect fit. I agree. The Patriots. Air out. They just drafted Mack Jones. Jones. I don't think you want to follow Brady in New England. No. The Giants. This is another underrated option. Aaron. First of all, their offensive lines not good. So if you're going to bring an Aaron next year, like Brady to Tampa, your first pick has to be an offensive lineman.
Starting point is 00:37:31 But they've got Sequin Barkley, Evan Ingram. I think they have the most underrated wide receivers in the league. Sterling Shepard, Darius Slate, and they've added Kenny Gulladay to run. really big time receiving core. Daniel Jones, my gut feeling by Thanksgiving, he's got a turnover problem. They'll be looking potentially for a new quarterback. About the Washington football team.
Starting point is 00:37:54 This is another great one, Aaron. Now, I don't know if he wants to play there. They have, in my opinion, the chance for one of the best front fours I've ever seen. They are stacked on the defensive front. I mean, it is all first rounders, a chance for three guys to
Starting point is 00:38:11 make the Pro Bowl. It's better than the Niners was two years ago, and we remember how good that D-line was. So you're not going to get into shootouts. It's a winnable division. It's a high-profile division. You've got a Super Bowl coach, and they went out and got Curtis Samuel to go along with some pretty interesting offensive pieces. How about the Philadelphia Eagles? Air out. I would not, first of all, I don't trust the coach. I think there's a meddling owner we've discovered. I don't, the GM, Howie Roseman, that is toxic, and the
Starting point is 00:38:45 one thing Aaron doesn't want to do is go into toxic, because he's had a little bit of that in Wisconsin. The Saints. Probably air out. He would be in the same division with Brady, which is fantastic, but you know.
Starting point is 00:39:05 But then you've got to follow. It's true, Breeze. And it's also, it doesn't feel like, I mean, I don't know. It just feels like that's not the city. It's not the time. Not that they're in a rebuilding mode,
Starting point is 00:39:20 but between his salary and Alvin Kamara and Michael Thomas, you're going to have to give up a lot on the defensive side in the next couple years. I just don't feel you could argue me into it, but it feels air out. How about the Packers? Aaron, I still think for two years outside of Miami, Green Bay is the best place. I think Miami's perfect. I mean, they got like multiple star receivers, AFC.
Starting point is 00:39:47 Miami's the best place to go. Nobody's discussing it. I think Green Bay is the second best place. Now, they didn't draft in the third round, a wide receiver. And if he develops, they've got a one. If he becomes a two, then all of a sudden, if Bakhtiari can be healthy at left tackle. So you think there's a chance Aaron is there next year, too? A chance.
Starting point is 00:40:08 I think Aaron has probably in his mind already drawn a line in the sand. at one and done. That's my gut feeling is, I've told you before, I've been at places in my career where I have opportunities to go elsewhere. It is incredibly hard to concentrate on where you're at. And, you know, it'd be, I mean, like, let's say the season goes sideways, and they're, they're kind of a six and six team, their schedule's brutal. And the offensive lines developing, it's not highly rated this year, and they struggle with Washington's, and their schedule, Seattle and Kansas City and Baltimore. A lot of these teams on the road at San Francisco, at Kansas City, at Baltimore, Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:40:50 These are tough games. And you get into that, we're just not an elite team. That's where I think Aaron could make up as my, I'm out of here. I'm done. All right. All right. By the way, the Olympics, it's hard to find it sometimes. That's my biggest complaint so far.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Really? There's a lot of channels bouncing all over the place for stuff. I watched fencing the other day, though. It's interesting. All that technology and flashing lights, the herd. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.

Starting point is 00:41:53 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
