It is great to have you in a great weekend in Las Vegas. I went to SummerSlam. I went to the Pacquiao fight. I had some cocktails. I didn't eat enough. I saw my son. I hung out. I did pool time.

Ooh. Yeah. Living it up. Beva Las Vegas. With my son. And Joy Taylor could have been in Ecuador or Pittsburgh. It doesn't matter. Every weekend it's a different.

I was in Pittsburgh. I got to see my baby niece. Fam time for you. Family time, yes. So, you know, I was thinking about this, Joy. You know, you tend to think, let me just speak for guys. The good-looking guy has all the confidence, right? Like George Clooney is a good-looking guy.

Had a great career. And then he made a movie Gravity, and it was great. And then after that, he made like four bombs. And Mr. Confidence, about a year ago, said, I don't need Hollywood. I sold a tequila company. I make a bunch of money. I don't need Hollywood. Oh, the calls stopped coming for George Clooney.

Hollywood forget you very quickly. The best-looking guy. Mr. Model guy. Mr. Famous guy. Mr. Cool Friends guy. Very fine actor. I like his movies, some of them. But the line between confidence and insecurity, my friends, is very, very thin.

Jimmy Garoppolo should be confident. It's like Tom Brady was frightened of him. Got to a Super Bowl. I mean, look at the guy. If I look like Jimmy Garoppolo, I would take selfies all day. I'd take 400 selfies a day. And yet, do you want to be? watch him last night, he's lost confidence.

Jimmy Garoppolo has no confidence. What are the three things for a quarterback that crush confidence? Number one is injuries. You don't want to get hit. He's had those. Number two, your coach loses confidence in you. We saw that in his last playoff run. Took the ball out of Jimmy's hand.

Number three, they draft your replacement. Jimmy Garoppolo had a quarterback rating of 16 last night. That's against backups. that is in a game in which nobody now plays starters in the NFL preseason. It's embarrassing. Like nobody's playing backups. Easton Stick is a fifth round quarterback, number three quarterback for the Chargers. I watched that game last night.

Easton Stick was better than Jimmy Garoppolo. Better than Jimmy Garoppolo. He played with more confidence. He moved better. He was more accurate. Remember, the young quarterbacks who've never played in the NFL are crows. rushing it in this preseason. And those young quarterbacks don't have Kyle Shanahan.

They don't have this offensive line. They don't have this culture. They don't have this roster. Jimmy's been in this system now multiple years. Jimmy Garapolo has lost his fastball. And I like Garoppolo. I'm a much bigger fan of Garapolo than 99% of you. But I'm watching that game last night.

And injuries, coach lost confidence, drafted a quarterback. He does not look the same. I mean, I've been saying this. It's very hard to evaluate these rookie quarterbacks. Zach Wilson's tearing it up. You notice what hasn't moved with Zach Wilson? There's still a four-point underdog in the opener to Carolina. And the over-under for the Jets is six and a half.

Vegas ain't buying it. But, you know, the reality is between all these injuries and Trey Lance, and by the way, Tray Lance is not ready to play. He's very talented. But the kid has taken no snaps. He had a couple of nice drives at the end of that game last night. That's against four stringers. That's against people that will not make the NFL.

So don't take anything from that. So San Francisco, a team I really like and in the NFC West has a dilemma. Garapolo's lost some confidence. Trey's not ready to play. And I said this. Remember a couple years ago, Carson Wentz? He was up for MVP of the league, much like Clooney and Garapolo. He checked two boxes.

He got hurt and they drafted a quarterback in the second round. and he lost his fastball. Carson Wentz lost his fastball. There's the old joke Howie Long once said. You can't have two great quarterbacks in the same room at the same time. One sucks all the oxygen out of it. They need attention. They're the guy.

It's the only football position doesn't have competition. Right? A team will draft three receivers in one draft. Nick Saban every year brings in six new running backs and wide receivers to Alabama. That's part of the cultural football. You've got to battle for your job, not quarterback. The way quarterback works, even at college, if you recruit two five-star quarterbacks.

One leaves within a year. It's my team. I get all the snaps. So the Garoppolo, I think the game's in his head right now. I don't know if it's solvable. It wasn't for Carson Wentz until he left to Indianapolis. By the way, he is back to practice and reportedly looks great. Why?

Why would Carson Wentz now look great? Hasn't played a game. He's got his coach back. He's got an offensive lineback. He has a team that's thrown a ton of money at him. The guys on the roster behind Carson Wentz are at. Absolutely late round backups. There's no threat.

There's no rush. Suddenly Carson Wentz, same size, same arms. Suddenly they say Carson Wentz looks great. Thin line between confidence and insecurity. Leading men and leading quarterbacks. And Carson Wentz this morning, oh, Jimmy Garoppolo this morning with Trey Lance, ready to take his job, doesn't look good. Kyle Shanahan talked about when he's going to name a start.

I would love for it to be more and more each week, but, you know, I think the situation is pretty similar right now. No, we're not making that announcement. Let's try, though, whenever I feel like it. Not the night. I promise it'll be by that Sunday. All right. Kick off. All right, let's shift gears. The Dallas Cowboys are not only an offensive. team, they're a shootout team. Yeah, in 2019, the last year, Dax started every game. The Cowboys were 8 and 0 when they scored over 25 points. And they were 0 and 8 when they scored under 25 points.

That's what Dallas is, and their defense hasn't gotten better. I know they have a new coordinator. I know they drafted a bunch of guys. Rookies are not going to make a difference in the NFL, especially the ones they drafted, other than Micah Parsons, who's really good. So this team needs its quarterback. So Adam Schaefter is now the fourth source on this. Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, Gilbrand,

Adam Schaefter, Dak Prescott could be bothered by injuries for the entire season. So I got Aikman, Irvin, Adam Schaefter, Gilbrant, all well connected, all come to the same conclusion. Dak's shoulder's not right. It's a baseball injury, right? The Cowboys got a hold of the Texas Rangers and the Yankees. They went to baseball teams.

If a baseball pitcher had this injury, you put him on the shelf. He doesn't play. So there was video this weekend of Dak Prescott before the game against what Atlanta, throwing the ball around. He threw 52 passes. Okay, 52 passes. Not one of them was a seam route. Not one of them was a post pattern.

Not one of them was a deep ball. 10, 15 yards, 52 passes. No deep balls. Is it something? Dallas also does not have a legitimate backup quarterback. I think Jerry Jones, a man who's pretty good at investing, would love to protect his investments. But if they get on the phone with Nick Foles and make a trade, the world will implode. It'll be just massive distraction.

And that's, as Jerry knows, with Zique a couple years ago, it's not good for football. They've already got hard knocks. You don't want to throw into Nick Foll's backup quarterback situation. So Dallas has only. been able to win in the last three years. I could say longer, but they've only really been able to win one way. Score 30 points. That has been it.

That's the way Dallas wins. So this is in 2021, a highly dependent quarterback team. Now, I hear this all the time. Everybody's quarterback dependent. No, they're not. The New Orleans Saints in the last two years have gone eight and one without Drew Breeze. How?

Great coach. Great old line. Very good defense. excellent GM, they can run the football. They had no deep threat. Drew Breeze and no deep threat. He leaves, they're 8 and 1. With Teddy Bridgewater with Taysam Hill,

James Winston can come into 8 and 1. That's not a quarterback dependent team. That's why it was time for Drew Breeze to go. They didn't need a quarterback to win. I mean, New England last year had no real backup, had Cam Newton with no preseason. He got COVID. They had eight guys opt out.

They were a game from 500. You've watched New England play this year. they're preseason. They're not quarterback dependent. Miami last year won 10 games and was not overly productive at quarterback. I mean, in a perfect world, you would have the ability to win without a great quarterback, but just happened to have one. I think Kansas City is close to that.

I think, you know, Seattle with Russell Wilson, like they were good enough defensively to get to the playoffs. Russell got him a Super Bowl almost two. but we know this cowboy team has one way to win. This is the one way to win. And it's very DAC dependent. Oh, by the way, he's coming off a very serious leg injury as well. So when I get Aikman and Irvin and Gilbrand and Adam Schaefter all saying the same thing, I'm going to trust them.

They've been around that franchise forever. I'm going to trust them. 52 passes, not one deep ball. Now, Jerry Jones, what he's selling me, This was Jerry Jones before the game. Thinks Dax's ready to go. He threw with authority. He threw with confidence before the game.

If we were lining up against Tampa tonight, he'd be starting and we'd feel great about it. All right. Well, I'd get in the phone with Nick Foles, Gardner Minchew, but that's just me. All right, Albert Brewer this hour, 45 minutes from now where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong. It's a crazy preseason. I'm not sure what I'm supposed to take. of it. I really not. Nobody's playing starters. It's the Sean McVeigh effect. So like nobody plays starters anymore. And if they do, Belichick does. But if they do, they get to the backup to

the backups by the beginning of the second quarter. So Trey Lance at the end of the game last night. Oh, this is great. That's four-string guys. I mean, and San Francisco's four-string guys are probably better than most teams four-string guys. So I don't know what to make of it. I always think the determining factor on how great you are is if you were a free agent and not just sports, you were an attorney, you were a doctor, you were a surgeon, you were a salesperson, you were a high school principal, high school administrator, you were a college professor. It doesn't matter. You could go down to anything. You go down to any worker. You're in a town. You're a chef. And you were on the market. Anybody could have you. They had to bid on you. What kind of frenzy would you create? That's why Janus really is good. If Janus was on the market, almost everybody would take him. Westbrook is

flashier, Carmelow's going to score a bunch of points, Anthony Davis, Janus on the market with a history of no injuries, everybody would bid on him. The whole league would bid on Janus. Now, in baseball, it doesn't count because some teams just can't afford mokey bets. But Mike Trout and mokey bets, available to the market, every single team in baseball would bid on them if they could afford them. And so if every single place. player in the NFL was on the market. And we know

quarterbacks are the most valuable players. So they would be the big prizes. I believe if every single player in the NFL was on the market, Mahomes would go number one and Russell Wilson would go number two. And people say, what about Aaron Rogers? Well, it's funny. Russell Wilson

dropped 10 spots to number 12, the 12th best player in the NFL on the NFL network's list. Now, this is just a list. But this is why I don't pay a ton of attention to the NFL network. They do a great job, but they do a lot of this stuff. You know, they get us all worked up,

and they'll put somebody a little higher, a little lower. Whatever, I get the game. But the value of Russell Wilson and Mahomes is, everybody in the league's available. Bid. You understand if Aaron Rogers, who's going to finish higher on this list, was available and Russell Wilson was, Russell Wilson would have far more suitors.

He's younger, he's healthier, he's more optimistic. He doesn't say things like, yeah, it was 50-50 on retiring. He's more athletic. He's one with four different coaches, a high school coach, two college coaches, NFL coach. Russell, since he broke into the league, has more passing yards than Aaron Rogers. How is that possible? He's got a defensive coach who falls in love with a run. They've had bad offensive line coaches now on their fourth.

They're on their third offensive coordinator. How is it possible? Aaron's had offensive guys. The reality is, if you go and look at Russell and Aaron on the market, market. Aaron's older. He's had issues. He's 50-50 on retirement. He's going to be a $46 million cap hit next year. And this is not a shot at Aaron. But whenever you see these lists, whenever you see these lists, ask yourself, everybody's available. Brady's 44. Josh Allen. He's been great for a year. Justin Herbert. Well, yeah. One season. Russell never loses.

I mean, last year, he was furious at his lack of support. They went 12 and 4 in the toughest division. He went 12 and 4 in the toughest division. So when the list comes out and then they drop him to 12, never forget this because you all love Aaron Rogers. Since Russell entered the league, he's got more passing yards, a higher winning percentage, more playoff wins, less drama, fewer injuries, more regular season wins than AR. Or as I like to call him, 50-50. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, no, turn on the news.

This is the herd line news. Well, Cam Newton seems to have a solid hold on the Patriots starting quarterback job. I thought. I thought. Said that someone would have to play better than him to take that spot. But this week, Mack Jones will be getting first team reps in practice. The Patriots announced that Cam is barred from the team's facilities until Thursday due to a misunderstanding over COVID testing protocols. basically the statement from the Patriots is on Saturday, Cam Newton traveled to a club-approved medical appointment that required him to leave the New England area.

He got daily COVID tests, which were all negative, but due to a misunderstanding about tests conducted away from NFL facilities as required by the NFL and NFLPA protocols, Cam is subject to a five-day entry cadence process before returning to the facility. So this testing violation indicates that he's not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 because only vaccinated and partially vaccinated. players are required to test daily. That's right. So he's unvaccinated. Travel restrictions. Right. Which, you know, everyone has their opinion about it. We know that. But these are the rules. And by the way, this is what we said about Kirk Cousins. You can tell me all you want about not being vaccinated, but in the regular season, can you imagine playing the Packers next

week on Sunday night football and Kirk Cousins can't play because he's not vaccinated. And again, you're the quarterback. Like nothing against Cam, but Cam, you've been in this league a long time. Well, we don't know if Mac Jones is vaccinated either. You know, different people are being very secretive about it for whatever reason. Either they are or they aren't. We don't know. But this is going to be something throughout the season that if you aren't, there's just going to be things that you're living in 2020, essentially,

if you are not vaccinated because you don't have the same protocols as vaccinated players. By the way, Pfizer this morning. FDA approved. FDA approved, which now means. Which means go ahead and move the goalposts because we know that's what's going to happen. But in the end, now schools, universities, jobs, because it's now been approved, after you approved, they can force you to take it. Or you can't go.

Well, not force. But they forces, yeah, force makes people crazy. Freedoms. No, you're not forced. You are welcome to stay home or work for someone else. Yeah. You have the freedom to do that. But companies now have more.

There's a lot more jurisdiction over what they can do. Legal implications now that it's approved. But regardless, I do think that it is Cam Newton's job to lose on the field when he's. is out there. I believe Cam Newton's going to be the starter unless he gets injured or plays so atrocious that it costs the team a game. But, you know, I just don't think that Bill Belichick is in the mood for developing players when you're in a position where you could be a wildcard team. Like, we all know the bills are going to win this division, but that's not Bill Belichick style. So if the best player, the one that's going to give them the best opportunity to win right now is the one that's going to

start. We know Mack Jones is the future, but I think it's Cam Newton right now. So Matt Nagy reiterated once again that Andy Dalton will be the bear starter week one, but fans want Justin Fields and they made it known during Saturday's preseason game. Brutal. Don't play the entire first half. Every snap. Against the bills. And

at one point, fans were booing him as he ran onto the field, but Justin Fields was not happy about that and came to the defense of his teammate. The fans are awesome, getting me out there, but they also have to realize, you know, Andy's a human being too. Andy's out there on the field right now. So I really just think it's kind of disrespect

respectful to Andy, you know, them cheering, chair my name out like that. And, you know, they have to, you know, trust in coach to, you know, make sure he's making the right decisions and, you know, just cheer Andy on. Like, there's no, that's not helping Andy play better than cheering my name. That's not doing none of that. So, you know, I would say, you know, my advice to them would be just cheer for who's out there playing on the field. I love that from Justin Fields. It's a lot of self-awareness. Oh, but by the way, Matt Nagy said he's starting Andy Dalton. Because we only have three games, right? So there's only one left.

Right. So the story I saw this morning, I got out here somewhere. Oh, you heard it is. Matt Nagy says Andy Dalton, we'll start week one. So you guys can boo. Well, look, I don't agree with it, right? I don't think you agree with it. I'm okay week one.

I'm Andy, week one against the Rams, then do what you got to do. That's because it's the Rams. I can't keep saying. Throw Andy out there against the Rams on the road. Then we can argue about it. but I think week one Andy's ready to play. I think it should be Justin Fields team. But I also, I agree with what Justin Fields is saying here.

I think, you know, there is a little bit of, it's harsh for Andy Dalton, for them to be booing him. Now, your Bears fans, or any fan, you're going to be a fanatic, so you're not necessarily listening to reason. But this is what Matt Nagy's going to be up against all year. And look, Andy Dalton had his opportunity to show what he was capable of last year. So it's not like he's in a situation where it's like, you know, not getting a fair shot here.

He had an opportunity last year. We know what Andy Dalton is. The Bears fans have been without a quarterback for a long time. Like there is something to this, whether Justin Fields is ready or not. I think they're in a unique situation. They're not in a situation like San Francisco who could are legit Super Bowl contenders if they have a quarterback out there. Jimmy G was in a Super Bowl.

Like this is not the same situation as San Francisco. So there's some real implications with the fan base here. And you're not necessarily in the most comfortable. situation as a coach either. So Zach Wilson had another great performance in the Jets preseason win over the Packers. He completed 9 of 111 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns and also had a near perfect passer rating of 154.7. Amazing. By the way, they lost their linebacker for six weeks today. Did you see that? Yeah. Even Aaron Rogers took notice. He said Wilson can throw the heck out of the ball and he's excited about what the rookie can do in the league. I'm with you on Zach Wilson. He is the big

question mark to me out of this draft class. No. I think he's inherited a really, and I'm not blaming him. I think he's inherited a really bad situation. Fourth best coach, new coordinator, left tackles out of shape. They've lost their edge rusher. This morning they lost their best linebacker. And by the way,

Vegas has not moved the jets over under one iota. So you can, everybody can fall in love with this. Vegas, Fandul in Vegas, has not moved the that's over under, half a win. It's at six and a half, dead last by a mile in their division. Well, it is preseason, and I'm with you. I don't know what to do with the preseason.

I'm usually not really a big fan of it. I don't spend a lot of time on it, but that's not the case this year because we have so many new quarterbacks. That's right. That's why we're watching. And so many new coaches that we really have to pay attention to it. But what can you really evaluate from it? If you look poise, if you're not making a lot of mistakes, you don't look panicky, that's good to me. Yeah, Mac Jones. Mac Jones has looked like he should be there. He's standing up. His feet are good.

I shouldn't look at you and say, I don't think he's an NFL quarterback. None of them have shown me that. So there's something to that. Nothing is everything. Everything is something. Right. So Jets fans are going to be excited about this.

They should be. As they should be. Be optimistic. How is this all going to play out? I don't really know. And similar to some other teams around the league, I don't know how long, and I hate using this analogy because it's just so corny,

but I don't know how long the runway is for Zach Wilson with the Jets. I just don't know. It's New York. They're very impatient. Yeah. And particularly this fan base. They're going to give him two years because it's this GM drafted him and this coach wants him.

And they brought a coordinator just for him. So he's going to get two years. But I guess my takeaway and all this stuff is I don't know. I mean, I watch these games. And I mean, Andy Dalton starting for a half was almost revolutionary because nobody outside of Belichick seems to be playing starters more than seven plays. Good God. San Francisco, the minute Garoppolo had a couple of snaps.

Middle of a drive, they'll just get him out of there. I don't know what to take. Sean McVeigh has literally changed preseason. 75% of these coaches now would not even consider a top starter playing. But shouldn't that tell you something about Andy Dalton if no one's playing their starters and they feel like they need to play him for a whole first half? Well, yeah, I think it tells you they're trying to, listen, Chicago has a lot of problems here. the GM and the coach have to win now, and their offensive line is not good.

I'm telling you, Zach Wilson inherited a bowl full of trouble, and Justin Fields is going to be running for his life. Because they draft, they didn't have any draft picks. They went and got two offensive linemen. They just signed some guy that was Jason Peters, I think. They got to figure out that old line fast in Chicago, or Dalton or Justin. Do you see Justin Fields get hit this weekend? He got some. That's for a preseason hit.

That was brutal. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lie News. It's nothing against Zach Wilson. I know what you're all thinking. Well, you like Sam Darnold.

And A, I think Sam's going to do really well in Carolina. Because I think he's got a better coach and really legitimate offensive pieces. And also outside of Tampa, Carolina, Atlanta. The Saints, they're all rebuilding. Zach Wilson's division, nobody's rebuilding now. Like New England's going to win 10, 11 games, Buffalo has a chance to win the Super Bowl, and Miami's in the third year with Flores, and if you've watched them in the preseason, and if you watch them at the end of last season, their rebuilding process needs maybe

another offensive lineman. I'm not sure Miami's rebuilding anymore. I kind of feel like I always say you've got to give a coach two drafts and two free agency periods. Brian's had those, and outside of Byron Jones at Corner, they've been. hit on everybody. So, I mean, the draft picks work, their free agents work. So I don't think Miami's rebuilding anymore. So I, Zach Wilson's inherited division with three great coaches and no rebuilding rosters. Darnold, outside of Tampa, two of his rivals, he's going to have four

games this year against rebuilding teams. New coach in Atlanta, new quarterback in New Orleans. Let's bring on brought to you by Mercedes-Benz, the best or nothing, Albert Breer. It's interesting. Tonight, I believe Trevor Lawrence and Jacksonville play tonight. Yep, I get that tonight. You just interviewed Urban Meyer, and it's very interesting. You're an Ohio state guy. I knew Urban for years.

I never even considered him an NFL coach. And I talked to him twice about this. Like, he didn't watch football on Sunday. That's just not his thing. Like Jimmy Johnson was a college coach eyeing the NFL. So was Pete Carroll. Urban wasn't. When you talk to him,

What was the moment that he decided, I'm going to give this thing a try? Probably when the Jets won that game and the Jaguars moved into pole position to get Trevor Lawrence. I mean, I think it like borderline did come down to that. Like, I think he wanted to coach again. I think he didn't want to deal with the headaches of recruiting and what it's becoming in NIL and everything else at the college level. You know, and one thing he said to me was, you know, he loved working with Brady Quinn and Matt Liner and Rob Stone and Reggie Bush last. year, but there wasn't a scoreboard on that. And this is a guy who needs scoreboard on everything. And so, you know, I think it was a combination of still wanting to coach, still wanting to be

involved in football, wanting a scoreboard on whatever he was going to be involved in. You know, and then all of these circumstances coming together in Jacksonville. And there's a reason why this was such a sought after job. It wasn't just urban. It was every GM candidate, every head coach candidate wanted in. A ton of draft picks, ton of caps face. And oh, by the way, the best quarterback prospect to come along in a decade in Trevor Lawrence. And so I think it was just a lot of different things coming together. And there's also a little piece that's interesting too, Colin. And he didn't say this to me.

I think he's aware that his legacy at the University of Florida was a little damaged coming out of there. And so I think that that was like a little motivator too was the opportunity to go back into that area of the country and maybe win some games for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Wars while you're also repairing your reputation at a place that you won two national titles. Yeah, good point. Great stuff. Read his stuff. Albert Breer, you know that Monday morning quarterback. So Cam Newton, to me it looks like his job. And then we got this COVID situation. Does it change who starts in the opener? What do you make of the Cam situation today? I mean, here's the nuance to it. All right. So the last two weeks, the Patriots can shut down practice. The public can't be there. The media can't be there. So this week was going to be the last week of open practice, right?

they were going to have it out there who's in front of who. Well, that's been taken out of the equation now, right? Because Cam's out for the next three days. They roll Mack out there with the first team. They're not tipping their hand. They're just being forced to do that because Cam can't be out there. So I think they're getting a really nice dry run with two practices today and tomorrow. And then they get joint practices with the New York Giants on Wednesday and Thursday.

They got a game against the Giants on Saturday. So I think this is going to give them a good chance to at least get a dry run of what it looks like with Mac as the starter. I think the intention has been to start Cam all along at least week one and probably for at least the first few weeks of the season. But I'm telling you, Colin, there are little things that you can pick up on the way that they're using Mac Jones in the games. They really trust Mac.

And one thing that's really interesting, that first preseason game, on five of Mac's 19 pass attempts, he was an empty, no backs, no tight end attached to the formation. And he went four or five in those chances. that shows trust from Josh McDaniels to Mack Jones because when you're an empty as a quarterback, you're responsible for the extra rusher. So A, Josh trusted him and B, Mac delivered in those spots. And so I do think that there's a level of trust now in Mac Jones that tells you they're at least toying with the idea of starting Mac at some point this year.

Maybe what's happened this week opens the door for it to happen week one. Okay, I watched Jimmy Garoppolo yesterday. And I, you know, add some context. I thought Easton Stick was the best quarterback I saw. He's been in that system for a while. But it is interesting. Of all the young quarterbacks, Trey Lance, to me, looks the most uneven. Most of it because he hasn't started.

But I was saying this earlier, Albert, is that three things hurt a quarterback's confidence. Injuries, your coach loses trust, and they draft your replacement. And Jimmy checks all three boxes. And I watched them last night. He, it just, by the way, young quarterbacks with best. Bad rosters, Zach Wilson are flourishing. Garapolo with this system, this coach, this roster, I thought he really struggled. Should I make anything out of it?

Well, you know, I think it could have an effect later on. I don't know that it's going to have a huge effect on week one. You know, I would tell you that if you look at the circumstances here, it's different. Normally, first round quarterbacks go to bad teams, almost uniformly. This year's different. Three of the five first round quarterbacks went to team. teams that have been in the playoffs recently, and two of those three went to teams that have been in the Super Bowl recently. The Niners are one of those teams. They believe they've got a championship

roster right now today. And so Kyle Shanahan's focus is on doing what's best for the Trent Williams, the Fred Warner, the Eric Armsteads, the Nick Bow says, all the guys on that roster that are ready to compete for a championship right now. And I think the little nuance to each of the three quarterback situations with contending teams is once you go with the rookie, you sort of have to stick with him. So all those warts that you saw out there with Trey Lance mixed in with the spectacular plays has been able to make the last couple weeks. That's what you're going to have to ride out if you start him from week one. Whereas if you start with Jimmy Garoppolo, give it a run, maybe give it two weeks, four weeks, six weeks. It doesn't work out. You can always go to Trey Lance and you're no

worse for the wear. And so I think in this situation, we're going to see Trey Lance in some capacity in week one. I'd still be surprised if Jimmy's not the starter though, because I think that it's going to be I think Kyle's going to look at it from a global standpoint and just say to himself, it'd be much easier for me to go from Jimmy to Trey than have to go from Trey back to Jimmy. Yeah. Finally, Dax injury, I've got now Gilbrant, Troy Aikman, Michael Irvin, and contemporary Adam Schaefter saying, yeah, this injury thing's going to be around a while. What do you make of it?

Yeah, I would be concerned. I mean, anytime it's anything with the quarterback's throwing shoulder, and we've been down this road before Colin, it was a couple years ago. You know, we were told no big deal on Cam Newton for half the season. And he hasn't been the same since. That's right. He had the surgery after the year. So I'm not saying that Dak Prescott's injuries like that.

My understanding is that it's manageable as of right now. But the fact that the Cowboys have taken this sort of care with it, that they've sat him down for a couple of weeks of training camp practice when you're trying to reacclimate him and get him use to playing on that surgically or prepared ankle. the fact that they reached out to the Rangers and the Yankees to ask for advice on it. I mean, all of it just tells you they've got some level of concern over this. And I think any time that you see a team treating a quarterback like that with an injury to his throwing shoulder, you at least have to look at it and say, there's something here. Might not be major, but there's something here.

All right, thanks, Colin. Yeah, it's, oh, now tomorrow, I am going to unveil my first amendment on my NFL predictions. So I make the predictions in late July. I'm always given myself two amendments, not just teams, but I'm going to make a series

of changes twice based on what I've seen, injury. So tomorrow, very exciting. And I will tell you, even though everybody's playing backups now, and it's just, the Sean McVeigh effect. And you've listened to this ad nauseum, so I won't go into it again. But nobody's playing starters. A couple veteran coaches are Bruce Ariens, Bill Belichick, but all these young or pretty young coaches, they're just, McVeigh's the Pied Piper.

Nobody's playing starters anymore. And they're going to their third guys very quickly. So I will say this. You can tell a well-coached football team even in the preseason. I may not be able. only two things I can take out of this preseason. You will see guys who were drafted this year, and you're like, oh, like a fourth round guy. And you're like, oh, he's going to play.

You can see some middle round guys. Chargers have a couple. And you're like, oh, they're not only going to make the roster. They're going to play a lot. They got a receiver, Palmer, I think Josh Palmer out of Tennessee. Like, oh, he's going to be really good as a rookie, wide receiver. The other thing you can tell is a well-coached team. Baltimore and Buffalo and Miami.

Those are well-coached teams. I don't care where the game is. You know, you can walk into a restaurant, and there'll be nobody in the restaurant. It would be a slow night. But you can tell a well-run restaurant, the feng shui, the menu, the service, how clean are the bathrooms, the quality of the food. A restaurant doesn't have to be full for you to go, this place rocks, right? Like that's Friday, Saturday night. Same of the football team.

You don't have to play starters. I watched Buffalo. I've watched every snap of Buffalo's previous. season. Did you see how good Trubisky was? Like, Buffalo is flat out as well-coached as anybody in the NFL, including New England, including Seattle, including Tampa. I mean, they have got it. That is a Mitch Trubisky. I'm like, what in the, is that? Support Brian Dable, got the skill people. It's that I can tell. A lot of this stuff I can't tell. You can see poorly coached and well-coached really quickly. worked. That's just a business plan. Who's unhappy all the time? I had a great weekend. Oh, I think a lot of people are very unhappy all the time. If people, I don't like, I don't ever consume people who are selling me grievance. This is bad. This is bad. This is bad. Yeah, I think that's why that works because people genuinely are pretty unhappy. And then that feeds into like why they're unhappy. That's why I'm unhappy because that person did that.

Everybody I know is happy. Am I living? Oh, yeah. I don't spend time around unhappy people. Ryan's happy. You're happy. I'm happy. My boss is happy.

My wife's happy. My wife cried this morning because we're sending her, you know, sending her daughter to college. And I'm like, those are tears of joy, growth and happiness. That's a happy. She didn't buy into that, but that was my argument. My sister's, my older sister's youngest son, Sam, went away to college this past weekend. So I came at like a really good time. It's, I mean, I don't remember my mom being out upset when I went to school. Oh, and mine either. But like, I don't know. I mean, we had Drew Bledsoe on last weekend. He almost cried on the show talking about his daughter going away to school. I made Triple H cry Charlotte Flair and almost drew Bledso in one

week. I make people cry. I'm like Tom Rinaldi with less facts. Read that on his shirt. That's great. So, you know, it's funny. If you look at the list of billionaires, there's 3,000 billionaires in the world. After about the 10th, you've never heard any of them. Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Mark Cuban, you've heard of those guys. Then it's mostly people you never heard of. Even successful people aren't stars. They're grinders. Most very successful people in America you've never heard of. They own a waste management company. They own property somewhere. Donald Trump, believe it or not, is not the biggest real estate developer in New York. He's the one that's the noisiest. I think he's fourth. There's a lot more people

with a lot more money. And he's not even close to the richest person, just in probably the borough in which he lived, right? Certainly not in Florida, not the richest person. Not even in the town, West Palm or where Mar-a-Lago. It's not a shot on him. Most people who are are rich, you don't know. Most people who are successful, they're not stars in politics. I was at WWE this weekend, in tech, in podcasting. Most successful people are grinders. Now, in the NFL, we want our quarterbacks to be stars. Mahomes is a star. Aaron Rogers is a star. Tom Brady's a star. A lot of championships came from guys like Phil Sims. And when I watch Tua and Mack Jones, I do not see stars.

Stars are big and flashy and big arms. And Tua is not that big and has an average arm and isn't that athletic and his ceiling is kind of low. But I have a feeling watching Mack Jones and Tua, they're going to be the young quarterbacks winning all the football games. Every time I watch Miami play, I am absolutely convinced that Brian Flores is the next superstar in coaching. They are so well coached. And once again this weekend, Tua looked really good. This is not a shot at Tua. But when I watch he and Mac Jones, I'm watching Phil Sims.

Phil Sims never lost you a game. Didn't win all of them. Never lost you a game. And Tua is accurate. Mac Jones is accurate. They're coachable. They'll play within a system. Sometimes there's an advantage in life, not having Jay Cutler's arm or Aaron

Roger's arm or Big Ben's talent, knowing your limitations. You become more coachable. You understand you need other people to succeed. Jay Cutler was a huge talent, no emotional discipline. Aaron Rogers is super talented, one Super Bowl trip. Big Ben may be more talented than all of them. But like Tua and Mac aren't as talented, and they know they're not. They see what the ball looks like when it comes off their hand.

And because of that, they are more coachable and more flexible and more adaptable and more. I look at Tua. A lot of it to me is just. he's accurate. And I look at Mac Jones and I'm like, well, but Brian Flores and Belichick, I'm not joking, could be the two best coaches in the NFL.

I really believe that. And Phil Sims wasn't that big, didn't have a big arm, wasn't that athletic. Phil Sims never lost games for you. Didn't win them all with Parcells. But that's what I see. I see Phil Sims.
