Live. Hour number three. It's the herd. Live in L.A. wherever you may be and however you may be listening. IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS1. So Carson went to the Colts just hit the COVID list. This is what happens when you're one of the least vaccinated teams in the NFL.

The Colts are, I think, first or second least vaccinated team in the NFL. This is what happens. So the NFL's basically said these are the protocols. If you're vaccinated, much looser protocols. If you're not vaccinated, whether you have it or not, we're going to be much more restrictive. So the Colts have a bunch of players that are not vaccinated. And I've got to be honest with you. Kirk Cousins, Carson Wentz, and Cam Newton, from what I can read and tell or not vaccinated,

I think it's really bad judgment by all three. I think less of all three. If you lead other men and if you lead an industry and a team, I'm going to judge you more harshly. So, by the way, I like the Colts. But this is why if you have a highly unvaccinated locker room, it makes me wonder, you play on the chiefs the next week and, you know, five guys are out. So, you know, this is why, this is one of the reasons you want to have a highly vaccinated team because the protocols are much more player friendly.

And I know everybody wants their freedom, but your boss gets freedom too. And the NFL has said, rigid protocols, get vaccinated, we'll lighten up. If not, Carson went out. I mean, they are free. didn't send him to jail. Right. He's absolutely free. Yeah.

Words are important. Absolutely free. There are no mandates. Absolutely free. You have the option to not get vaccinated. You will, however, suffer the consequences of that decision. Yeah, there'll be much more restrictive measures in place for the unvaccinated. And you are fully aware at this point.

The NFL has made it pristinely clear what the rules are. If you buy cigarettes, it says on the side of the carton causes cancer. So if you, you can, still buy them, but when the box says, this ain't great for you. You have the freedom to buy them, but there are things, you can't smoke them in buildings, can't smoke them in meetings, you can't smoke, there are restrictions for all of our decisions. And I've always said this. The car, everybody talks about freedom. The car, the thing we drive hundreds of hours a year, you have to wear a seatbelt, You have to have to drive a speed limit.

It's the least freedom in America is driving your car. You have to have a license. You have to. An identification card. And drive a certain speed. And where new cars, ding, ding, unless you put the belt on. Colin, I don't want the government tracking me. The government tracks us every day.

I was almost actually sending our thoughts, obviously, to New Orleans right now. I was almost in New Orleans this weekend. That's right. I had a trip planned and pivoted to Fort Lauderdale instead, but, yeah, we're thinking of New Orleans today. Yeah. Prayers to everybody down in the south. And speaking of New Orleans, Andrew Whitworth was a... starred LSU. They're in town in

LA Saturday night. I can't wait to watch that against UCLA. And he's got a new quarterback in Matt Stafford. He's got a new running back and Sony Michelle. So they made all sorts of moves. And Andrew Whitworth is now joining us live.

By the way, the seventh highest graded offensive lineman in the league last year. And he's got a little gray in that beard. So he's a veteran now. So let's talk Matt Stafford. Just give me, you know, the cadence, the style, the difference, he and Goff. Can you kind of sense it, the voice, the cadence, the style, the way he plays?

Yeah, I think it's pretty easy to tell with Matthew that he's been in the league for quite some time. He's got that field general presence where sometimes he's got certain things he wants to do with the football in a way he wants to run certain plays and call certain cadences that he season is an advantageous thing for the team, not just maybe the simplest way to do it. And I think it's one of those things where you can feel that he's played a lot of football and have a lot of experience on the field and knows what's going to be successful for us and kind of has a feel for now that he's getting to know all the ins and outs of our offense and how we used to have done things, he can add his little touch to maybe some

things that he wants to do differently. So I thought it was interesting. When Cam Acres got hurt, I had said on the air, I said, you cannot win this division without a running game. It's just too physical. You have to have a running game. You can't put Matt Stafford back in the pocket 48 times like the Steelers last year with Big Ben. And then you go out and get Sony Michelle.

Give me your thoughts on Cam and Sony and their similarities as backs. Well, I think really for Sony, I think it's that patient running. You watch him run. You can see a guy's played a lot of big football games. He's had a lot of experience winning and playing winning football. And then you watch him run, the patience he runs with really the ability to just get everything out of every play. I think Cam was that way, well, you did a really great job of that at the end of the season. You look at the way Cam ran and really came on there the last part of the year, the patience

he was running with and making stuff out of plays that sometimes weren't there. And then when he got plays that were there, he got the most out of it. And I think Sony's that same kind of runner. And they are guys that are going to be coached hard by Thomas Brown. And I think Thomas was actually with him at Georgia. So ought to be a great relationship there. And we're looking forward to get him on the field. By the way, you had an MCL tear in Week 10. You came back, by the way, and played in the play it in the play it in the play. playoffs, so that's the Andrew Whitworth we love. You only gave up in 402 passing snaps last year a sack. If you today were to compare yourself to rookie Andrew Whitworth out of LSU to today, do you look

at the rookie Andrew and think, oh, you dumb kid, you don't know what you're doing? How have you, all these years later, become so proficient at pass blocking because the athletes are better? You face faster athletes. You face bigger. athletes. We all know this. Everybody's getting bigger, stronger, and you often face the most athletic guy. What is the secret sauce to your growth as a left tackle? I think really if you had to sum it up the easiest way, it's adaptation. Just try to find a way to adapt and survive in the league you play in. I think that if I looked at rookie film, I also was probably playing an under center offense where the quarterback was always under center. A lot of two back. Just a way

different game. A game that's completely nothing looks nothing like what the tape you see now on the football field in 2020 and 2021. And so I think it's one of those things that you learn to adapt, your body, how you move, your mobility, all those things. And that's something I've been able to do over the years. I think something I've really credited myself with is every offseason finding that way I needed to adapt to be ready to play in this league and what the league is now. And funny enough, Colin, is, you know, you mentioned it earlier, talking about the people

down Louisiana. And I want to say that as well, our hearts and our thoughts are with them. In 2006, my senior year at college was Hurricane Katrina. And so I well know what these guys are going through, and I know they're displaced right now. So all those guys down there at LSU, man, our hearts and thoughts are with you. And I can't wait for you guys to get back and support your state the way we got the opportunity to my senior year. By the way, you dealt with some fires a couple years ago, Thousand Oaks, so you were displaced and the team was a little bit. You've dealt with that in your entire career.

When you look at the Rams, it's an interesting, you know, I've said this, is, it's, is McVeigh is like the Pied Piper. He decided a few years ago, I'm not playing my starters. And now 90% of the league, especially the young coaches, they're like, well, we're not playing our starters. It's interesting. Like, clearly it doesn't affect winning and losing. For me, as a sportscaster, Andrew, the part I struggle with is it's a big mirage. Is Trey Lance good or is he playing against four stringers?

Like, I, what can I, if a fan's watching you now, and you could say, okay, this is what you should watch in the preseason, even if backups play, this is important, and maybe this is hard to judge. Well, I think it's hard to judge, really, some of the success you're going to have offensively because you look now, almost every team from the preseason tapes I've cut on, you know, it's very vanilla on offense. It's like we're going to take some play action shots and the dropback game. We're going to run a couple screens maybe, but you're not going to see all the stuff

that every team's going to run. and week out in the NFL throughout the regular season. So these offenses have been really reduced down to simplicity and even some of the young success you see some of these quarterbacks have. It's more throwing a bomb down the field in a one-on-one situation. You know, a guy who's willing to take a chance. And it's not really, you're not seeing them really truly read defenses and coverages and getting all these hidden coverages and guys masking different coverages,

whether it's man zone, all this. You're not going to see as much of that. So you're really only going to be able to watch the one-on-one battles and say, hey, how did this receiver match up in one-on-one? on one down the field. How do this quarterback do delivering the balls where only his guy can get it and really having time and accuracy of plays that he's playing? And then really the big guys, it's watching the linemen up front say, hey, can these guys protect the quarterback or can they not? They're going to be a lot of just straight rushes, not as many complex blitzes and stuff. And we're going to get

to see whether our guys can protect and whether we got defense alignment that can rush the quarterback. So you guys, you are the highest rated offensive linemen for the Rams and it was the third highest rated offensive line. I do look at you and I think, okay, Andrew, this could be the last year. And that does worry me. And I've talked to less need about that. Like there's just not a lot of left tackles on the market. College football gives us about three a year.

We always talk quarterbacks. Not a lot of great left tackles. What will be the deciding factor for you? What will be the moment this year, Andrew, that you go, all right, it's been great. I got my money set, my family, I got my health. What will be the moment you'll make that decision? decision. I think really it's about the level of play. If I can continue to play at the level I expected myself each and every week and be able to do that consisting throughout the year,

I've always said this. It's like from week one to week 17, my play should do nothing to get better. And I should be able to get better and better throughout the season. And I really should feel like by the season ending, I should be ascending and feeling like, you know what, I'm at the top of my game this season. And I think that's something that if you're honest with yourself, you can feel and know. And I've always felt like I'll be my harshest critic. And, you know what? That's something that's always been something I've been about is being able to break

myself down and see where I'm really at. And I thought last year, honestly, just being real, as I thought I was having one of the best seasons I've had. And I really felt like the first part of the season was going really well and in the run, game, past game, everything, and just an unfortunate injury. So I'm excited for the opportunity to get out there and prove that I can still play at that level. And if I can, I can continue to get better and better every week, we'll see what

happens. But I'm going into it one week at a time and going to give it my best. I'm going to be the oldest guy. I'm going to be the guy coming off an injury. I got plenty of excuses. But I'm just going out to shoot my shot. Yeah, you are actually the oldest offensive lineman in the NFL. I can say that you turned 40 in December. You know what? Listen, I'm in my mid-50s, Andrew. Don't listen to anybody. I just went to Chicago for the weekend. It's a good time. I can, you know what? Sometimes the old thing, Joy, look at me. I'm nothing but fun. It's a privilege to be. That's right. It's a privilege to turn 40 in December. By the way, LSU, what's the line on that, Ryan? It's off the ball, all because of the hurricane they're facing. Okay, LSU's in town this weekend against UCLA.

UCLA is my dark horse in college football this year. I got them in eight, nine games. I may just see you there, Andrew. It's great seeing you again, and good luck. Hey, I appreciate it always. Thank you very much. You bet. Saturday 830 on Fox. You don't get the SEC teams come out west very often. often. So we get a little bit of a break. So by the way, the Saints and LSU displaced right now. So the Saints obviously don't play until a week from Sunday. I think they open with Green Bay. Yeah, but there's their situation. Sean Payton talked about today. So it could be a little complicated for a couple weeks. Okay. Because there's no electricity there right now.

That's right. Yeah. All right. Good stuff. Joy with the News. No, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Herd Line News. Well, Trevor Lawrence looks solid in the final preseason game for the Jaguars. Solid. He sparked the first team offense, completing 11-012 passes for 139 yards, two touchdowns, and three drives against the Cowboys. Yeah. Urban Meyer almost didn't play him because they were missing most of their starting

offensive line, but he decided to need more in-game action. And afterwards, Lawrence said he thought the offense was all on the same page, communicated well, and built confidence going into the regular season. I think they have good skill people. The one thing the Jags have is a clever offensive coach, a really talented quarterback, a couple of really nice receivers, two backs now due to an injury down to one. They'll score some points. That I don't worry about.

I think they'll be a little like Carolina last year. They'll score some points. I'm not sure if they'll stop anybody. So they're going to get rolled. Any high octane offense that comes into town, they're going to give up 30 burgers. I have no expectations for the Jaguars this year. None. I'm starting at the very bottom.

Two wins over Houston. This is, exactly. Exactly. If they can steal one against Houston, that's a good start. Because I do think that despite the fact that, you know, Houston is a disaster, they do still have some pieces there as well. And currently Deshawn Watson is still playing there, and he's capable of putting up points as well.

I just don't think that you should have wild expectations for this situation. I understand it's hard to do because it's Urban Meyer and it's Trevor Lawrence, and those are two massive names. So we're going to be interested in watching regardless. But if they don't play well this year, there shouldn't be a massive overreaction to that. They're not a good

team. The reason Trevor Lawrence is there is because they're not a good team. And Miami may have been a bad team when Flores took over, but they had some elite players who they could move to get picked. So this rebuild, unless they hit on five of their draft picks this year,

it's going to take a while. This is a complete, this is a bare-bones rebuild. They have a stadium. That's it. And by the way, they're building new facilities. They don't have that. Right. So this is like the very beginning. This is the ultimate experience, experiment, really, for Urban Meyer.

And it's a tall task. Now, I'm not building in excuses. I'm just saying this is probably one of the situations where you're going to need to be a little more patient than normal. Tom Coughlin was 4 and 12. First year in Jacksonville, ended up taking them to the playoffs a couple of times, raging success. Similar situation. College guy goes to pro, totally rebuild. By the way, I do find it funny.

there's a lot of these old NFL writers. You can just tell. They're rooting against Urban because he's viewed as a college guy with a big ego. Let's just be reasonable here. Let's be fair. If they go five and 12, massive success. Huge. And Trevor stays upright, throws for 3,600 yards.

They get blown out. Let's say they get blown out five times. They win five games. The other seven they lose, but, you know, they're in the ballpark. They lose bad touchdown. So I look at him and I think at Houston, chance for a W. Denver at home loss. Arizona at home, close loss.

Cincinnati, go either way, probably a loss. But then they get Tennessee and Miami at home and a buy. Tennessee I'm lukewarm on. There's some wins in there. Not many. It's kind of a brutal stretch after the buy. Yeah. At the end of the year, they do get Texans and Jets back to back.

that those are potentially, you know, Atlanta at home. Five games is... It'd be great. I'd take it today. Yes. Today. If you could do it, I would take it. And just be patient with them. That's what you're going to have to do with this team.

So the NFL network released the final 10 players of their top 100 list over the weekend. This list is voted on by players. Players. By players. And Patrick Mahomes took the top spot for the first time in his career. Aaron Donald, Aaron Rogers, Derek Henry, and Travis Kelsey rounded out the top five. Then Devante Adams, Tom Brady, DeAndre Hopkins, T.J. Watt, and Josh Allen. I don't have a problem with any of it.

Although the slander for Stefan Diggs is remarkable. That one I don't get. Stefan Diggs just doesn't get the love. But, but he's probably 11. So I'm not going to complain. I actually don't know where Stefan is is. I think he was 13. Yeah, I mean, I don't have a problem with this list either.

but I do like the players voted list because, one, it's, you know, it's still anonymous, but we know it's your peers. Right. Like the media ones are fun and we always talk about them. But this is really a reflection of what the people on the field feel about. Diggs was 11. Yeah, so Stefan Diggs to me. So that's not really slander. Yeah, that's not.

No, no, no. By the way, you had a quarterback, you had a defensive lineman, you had a running back, you had a couple receivers. Yeah, there's a lot of diversity in positions. TJ Watch, Watt, who's a great player, by. the way. Can you imagine that? J.J. Watt and T.J. Watt were like three-star recruits. Whoever recruited the Watt boys,

they did well because they were not five stars, but T.J. is, you know, the T.J. Watt is voted on higher than both the Bosa brothers. And Kaleel Mack. What does that tell you? NFL players.

Think of that. T.J. Watt. I mean, that's company there. He's a playmaker. Joey, Nick Bosa, Kaleel Mack. No, T.J. Watt is a dog. He is one of those guys when you watch him, Joy. You know, they always talk about a player's motor. Some guys just play hard all the time. Like, they're weird to block. Like, he's just like a hyper kid who's moving fast and you can't get your arms around him. He's a disruptor, but is also productive. Because sometimes you have disruptive players that don't necessarily put up the statistics. No, TJ's right. But they are someone you have to watch for a big moment in the game, and he is both of those. Ask yourself this. If you were a mom.

What was your food bill? Outrageous. Outrageous. Outrageous. Honestly, I have no idea how parents feed these children. I don't know. I bet you Mrs. Watts. Like, okay, T-bone steaks for breakfast. I mean, you just have to buy in bulk, I guess, because, I mean, what do you? Costco.

They just eat so much food. They go through a vat of mayonnaise a week. I watched my younger brother pour an entire box of cereal into one. Like, he went into the kitchen. He was like, I want a snack. Not a meal, a snack. A whole big bowl, like a big mixing bowl. dumped the entire box of cereal and milk and got a big spoon and just ate the whole box of cereal for a snack.

One box of cereal. That's supposed to last you like at least a week. I think the Watt family should have a GoFundMe to feed their young boy. Well, I think they're covered now. I think they got a subway commercial. I think they're good. So 2021 is a very pivotal year for Daniel Jones as he entered his third NFL season. We have him on track for a Thanksgiving evaluation here on the herd.

That's what we're going to evaluate. Can I just tell you? Are you going to amend that? Andrew Thomas was not good this weekend. Giant's O'Line is a, I mean, the only thing I watched in preseason, I was the Giants O' line. Well, the Giants are hoping to prove he's the quarterback of the future, but the offensive line is a disaster,

and left tackle, Andrew Thomas, knows the pressure is on him to do a better job of protecting Jones. Yeah, there's definitely pressure, but I put pressure on myself. You know, I know I've been given this role, worked hard to be here, so I have to step up and do what I have to do. I think I made improvements, but there's a lot of things I still need to work on, trying to fix those things in camp. I know a guy that went to high school with him.

So before the draft and loved him, I went to lunch with a guy who went to high school with him, and he played at Notre Dame about two years ago. So when he came out, I was like, I like him because he told me all the good things. And I do, maybe it just goes to show you how hard it is to block in the NFL. I think these offensive linemen, it's hard. Yes. And by way, and you're not going to win without a competent offensive line. Which is why when you're building a new team, and look, we sit here and play armchair, GM all the time because we're obnoxious and we think we know everything.

But if you're building a new team, I would say a consensus for most players would be that you want to start in the trenches. Like it sounds very cliche. No question. But if you have a young quarterback, that's show. be your focus. It's not flashy. It's not the sexy positions that the fans want to bring in, but you can't stay afloat if you can't protect your young, not even a young quarterback. No quarterback is going to be successful if he's running for his life every single game. They have the 31st ranked offensive line, according to Pro Football Focus, last season. They have the worst ranked

offensive line this season, and they did not draft any offensive lineman this year. Well, they need him to be better. The truth is, if he was good, I'd feel much better because it's the blind side for Daniel Jones. It's not good. Oh, no, the left tackle's got to be better. That's like, that is no, that was a big, like the main consensus from this weekend. Giants' offensive line is in big trouble. But what can you expect to evaluate from Daniel Jones if this is the situation? This is not easy stuff. That's why they get paid a lot. It's hard.

I'm telling you that they, even Giant's, fans have to acknowledge. And I watch all the Giants games because having lived there for 10 years, I had so many friends that were Giants fans that I now watch every Giants game. The O-Line is a disaster. And it's not like they were dormant this offseason.

No, no, no, they really have a good roster. I mean, I really like the Giants. If you told me their offensive line was 50. But what do you always say? You can't be terrible at anything. You can be average. You can't be terrible. You can't be terrible.

Time to buy. Colin will decide if he'll buy it, sell, or hold. Here we go, Joy. Buy, sell or hold. Tampa Bay, we will repeat as Super Bowl champions. Sell, sell, sell. Sell. Why? They got some injury breaks last year. The Chiefs were missing both tackles.

The Packers were missing David Bactiari. Their left tackle, they were almost bizarrely healthy for their playoff run. They struggled with Washington. Remember that. So what if they don't get the health break? They got in their last two games. I say they're close, but sell. Buy sell or hold, Cowboys will have the number one offense.

Sell, sell, sell. I think in that division are two of the best young defenses in the NFL, one, the Washington football team. Defensive lines insane. Insane. And I think the Giants defense is really good. So I also think they would like to, Zechial Elliott is reportedly in better shape. I think they'd like to be a little more run-centric this year that will kind of take away

some yards and some flash from DAC. By seller, hold, the Browns will win the AFC North. Hold. Remember, they were 7 and 2 and 1 possession games, which is a very random stat. You generally, there's some luck involved with that. They also had the worst point differential of any team to finish with a winning record last year. So they had a couple ugly losses. Their wins were often narrow.

Let's just slow down on the Browns love a tad. By seller hold, Justin Fields will be the best. Bears starting quarterback by week four. By, by, bye, bye. Listen, they lost eight of their last 11 games last year, which is adding to the frenzy around Justin Fields. People are over average. And he's also, this franchise has not had great franchise quarterback play.

So you watch Justin Fields and you saw him at Ohio State and you saw them make plays, you can't blame fans. I mean, this is an organization that gets every, this town is great for sports. except quarterback, and they appear to have a star in the making. Jimmy Garoppolo will remain the 49ers starter this season. That's a sell for me. For a lot of reasons, one is he can't stay healthy. He has missed 23 games in the last three years.

And the emergence, as Mike Silver told us earlier, of Trey Lance, who's picked up the playbook much faster. Also, he plays well early. It's called the trading deadline. About every five, ten days during the season, a quarterback or a team that needs one. I think they can move him by week seven or eight. Sam Darno will lead the Panthers to the playoffs.

Hold. Listen, offensively, they're very interesting. Robbie Anderson, Terrace Marshall, DJ Moore, Chuba Hubbard, Christian McCaffrey. Remember, the Saints are rebuilding, Atlanta's rebuilding. Okay, there's some wins in this division. And Matt Rule, this year, their draft, all offense, outside of their first pick, J.C. Horn. So this is a team that's going to score points in a division with some rebuilding teams.

I think they're going to be interesting. By sell or hold, Ben Rathesberger will retire after the 2021 season. I'm going to say sell. Sell, sell, sell. We forget they went 12 and 3 last year, started 11 and 0. He is reportedly coming to camp in the best shape of his life. They're also doing something. Pittsburgh is good at solving their issues quickly.

Yeah. So their running game and their offensive line are a little bit of a rebuild. We know their front seven defensively is just filthy good. So that's where the money is at. They're rebuilding their own line and they're running backs. Well, they first picked, they went and got a running back. They also drafted two offensive linemen, and they looked good when they played in the preseason. So my takeaway is his protection will be better.

They'll be less Ben-centric and reliant, and he'll come out of the season with some wins and feel pretty good about it. seller hold, Tua will be replaced as the Dolphins starting quarterback. Well, let's do a hold because the Deshaun Watson situation, there's a legal angle on it. Also, there's a lot to give up according to reports. Listen, Tua was, had a passer rating under a hundred in his last six starts. So there's concerns. And listen, Deshaun Watson's a great talent.

So, I mean, Carolina was in the running here. And I love Sam Darnal. but it does make you wonder about how vested they are in it. When the stuff gets out, it's a pretty good indication. Somebody wanted it out. Aaron Rogers will repeat as MVP by Seller Hold. I'm going to sell that. He lost his Pro Bowl Center, Corey Linsley to the Chargers.

David Boktiari's great coming off an injury. We cross our fingers there. A lot of noise in the offseason. Nobody's won back-to-back MVP for almost 15 years. Peyton Manning did it like an 0809. It's not easy to do. MVP, part of that is a story. You know, people like unique stories. So there's a lot of good offenses in football.

I'm going to say sell. The NFC East will have a repeat champ for the first time since 2004, buy seller holds. You know, I'm going to buy, and I'm strangely confident. Does everybody understand how good Washington's defense is? They allow 20 points or fewer in seven strange. games to close out the season. Now think about that. Ron Rivera, rookie coach. So it took them Thanksgiving. They kind of figure out what they are.

By the end of the year, you could not move the ball on this team. And this defensive line is mostly young guys. So I, this to me, I don't get the, I think Washington is the best football team and the best defense in the NFC. Mack Jones will win rookie of the year by Sell or Hold. Sell, nothing against Mac Jones. But this is a run-centric team. Second highest run percentage in the NFL last season. And they played a lot of starters, as you know, Joy, in the preseason.

And they ran the ball. They don't have much of a deep threat. They've got new tight-ins. So this will be a defense coaching, special teams, and run-centric offense. Plus, he's a rookie.
