This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,

On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated.
So let's get to it.

This is the best of the Heard.
with Colin Cowher on Fox Sports Radio.
Oh, here we go. It is a Monday, a beautiful Monday, on the eve of another big day.
It's the herd live in Los Angeles, wherever you may be, and however you may be listening.
Fox Sports Radio, Iheart Radio, and right here in FS-1, it is nice to have you and hope you had a great holiday weekend, a great Halloween weekend.
It's not my favorite.
Didn't see a lot of kids.
in my neighborhood. I didn't even see the adults with cocktails. That's usually the way you see
in Manhattan Beach. I didn't see anybody. My dogs, that was about it. Good to have you enjoy. How are
you? I'm great. A lot of people did like in-home trick-or-treating. It's like you just go to
go to a different room and get candy. I don't have kids, but I have lots of nieces and nephews.
And really, if you just get the candy, that's it. That's easy to be the most important part of that.
So I'm glad everyone had a good weekend. Yep. One hour from now, Colin Wright, Colin wrong. So listen,
It's not, you win a lot of games in the NFL, you can lose a lot of games.
And right now, you know, we know who can play 7, 8, 9, 10 good teams and 7, 8, 9 junk, right?
Some teams in the middle.
It's sort of like sometimes how you win and how you lose.
Here's the really bad news for Baltimore and the really great news for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Pittsburgh Steelers should have lost that game.
That game went the exact way Baltimore wanted it to go.
You couldn't stop the running game.
They forced turnovers.
Pittsburgh couldn't move the ball.
Pittsburgh couldn't run the ball.
Everything.
If you looked at the box score without the quarterbacks, you'd be like, oh, my Baltimore
rolled them.
The great news for Pittsburgh, you won that game.
You won a game in which you were controlled.
Time of possession.
You had two turnovers, by the way.
Baltimore ran for 265 yards.
When did the last time they did that and lost?
But they did.
And they did because of Lamar Jackson.
He wasn't very good.
And there were a lot of criticisms of Lamar.
Jackson coming out of college.
And by the way, every quarterback out of college gets criticized.
I mean, I remember when people were on Andrew Luck, I don't know about his arm.
I was like, folks, it's about as good as a college quarterback is.
Trevor Lawrence are starting to hear criticisms, but Lamar people got very sensitive.
And the criticisms were fair.
He's an unbelievable athlete, but we know in NFL history, you got to be able to throw the
ball effectively and accurately.
He's struggling.
We got tape.
It's getting bad since week one.
He's not good.
He completes 57% of his throws.
That's bad.
That's like in the NFL right now, everybody's around 64 to 68.
Russell Wilson for a while was at 75.
He's got a weird throwing motion.
His accuracy is hot and cold.
He is sometimes his touch is terrible.
And everybody's got a book on him now.
We're not saying he can't be an NFL quarterback.
That's not the question.
Of course he can.
But the difference is Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray are hyper-athletic.
But the athleticism complements two guys that are great throwers of the football.
They throw a beautiful ball.
With Lamar Jackson, his athleticism is starting now to kind of define who he is.
You stop that, you stop him.
So there are a lot of different ways.
When he came into the league, and I was one of those who questioned it.
I said, I think he's a bit of a project.
I don't like his throwing motion.
My takeaway was always, what's he going to be on third down?
In college and high school, a quarterback, you just take off and run.
on on third down. That works. In the NFL, at some point, you're going to have to sit in the pocket
in third down. The coaching's way better. The athletes are way better. They're going to make you
throw on third down. You don't have to in college. You don't have to in high school. You can
just take off. And that was always, and I remember getting on Twitter and people, what are you saying?
And I'm saying, I don't know, I watched him play in college. He ran for 200 yards in some games.
That's not going to work in the NFL. He's not a great throw over the football yet. We just have
to recalibrate things, I think, on Lamar Jackson. Baltimore's still good. He's still good. He's
but the whole Russell Wilson category, Mahomes category,
Aaron Rogers category, and some of these new young stars.
This morning, if you ask me, next 10 years, Joe Burrell, Lamar Jackson,
I take Burrow.
I'm recalibrating.
I'm recalibrating how I think of Joe Burrow playing with nothing,
absolutely nothing, and tearing apart Tennessee's defense.
And I'm recalibrating how I look at the Ravens, very good football team,
and how I look at Lamar Jackson.
He's struggling.
Nine T-Ds, four picks since week one.
He beat Cleveland.
We know what Cleveland is.
So Mike Tomlin, I think, really touched on something with Lamar Jackson.
When he came into this league, everybody fears new in the NFL.
First of all, new catches everybody off guard.
The wild cat worked.
Snapping a ball to a running back worked for a year.
Even the Patriots tried it.
So new can work in this league.
And I think Lamar Jackson initially kind of scared people.
It's like, we, I'm not sure if we had the linebackers that can keep up with him.
I'm not sure we, I mean, there's a lot of fear.
That has a lot of fear.
But Mike Tom and I think touched on something.
after the win, a game in which
Pittsburgh should not have won on Lamar Jackson.
Yeah, Mike, you don't expect
Lamar Jackson to make those kind of interceptions.
How big was that to change the momentum?
You know, we got respect for him,
but we don't fear him.
And so, you know, we're not surprised by anything that transpires.
And I think that is today how I view
Lamar Jackson and how the league views him.
You got to respect him.
He can do stuff other guys can't.
But the fear part of it is like,
no, no, no, no, no, no, there's a way now.
Drop it into coverage, make him make throws up the guy,
up the sideline, make him show some touch,
make him be an accurate thrower of the football.
And I think there's now a way
to make things uncomfortable for him.
And he now has to recalibrate himself,
get through this.
A lot of young guys don't.
A lot of quarterbacks, they're good.
You throw up a wall, and they can never break through it.
I mean, a couple of weeks ago, we were talking about Patrick Mahomes.
Everybody was like, oh, play a zone against him.
play zone against Patrick Malmes.
Yeah, that worked for about two weeks.
And that doesn't work anymore.
And for Russell Wilson, for a long time, it was like, hey, you get a spy on Russell
Wilson.
You just put a spy on Russell and following around the field.
And now it worked for about three games.
And now it doesn't work anymore.
So Lamar, let's recalibrate.
Let's realize that the league has kind of figured out some of his deficiencies.
Can he break through it?
We'll watch.
Still a good team, still a good quarterback.
But today, I take Burrow over Lamar next 10 years if you ask me.
All right, let's start with this.
Secondly, with this.
So I've watched every NFL team like you every weekend.
I even sit through crappy jag games.
This is what I've paid to do.
Joy and I watch bad football all the time.
There are three teams in the NFL, I think, that have separated.
Kansas City, Pittsburgh, and Tampa Bay tonight.
There is a fourth team, which I think could be better than all of them.
And this is what's scary about Seattle.
They are a personal foul call in Arizona from 7 and 0.
and they should not be.
They play on the toughest division in football.
None of their running backs are healthy yesterday.
They played a hyper-physical team.
They have no pass rush.
And they're missing their superstar safety,
who eventually, I swear,
for giving up all those picks is going to be healthy.
The narrative on Seattle so far, and it's fair.
Boy, Russell Wilson is carrying this franchise.
Yep, he is.
But if Jamal Adams comes back and just is what he is,
the best safety in football. If Carlos Dunlap comes in next week and is what he is, an elite
athlete defensive end, and if Chris Carson, a top 10 running back is healthy, I think I've seen
the best of Pittsburgh. I've seen the best of Kansas City. I've seen the best of Tampa.
I don't think I'm going to see wild, massive improvements. Seattle should not be six and one.
Yesterday they're running a Miami hurricane DJ Dallas, who played by the way pretty well.
played pro. That rookie running backs, no pass rush, no Jamal Adams.
And they are a play, a penalty away from being unbeaten.
I think the ceiling for Seattle is massive.
We came into this season saying let Russ cook.
I think their offensive lines better than I thought.
Some teams, we know are good, Green Bay, but they've got an unfixable hole.
They're not physical.
Yesterday, once again, Minnesota said, we're going to run, try to stop us,
Bay can't. Green Bay has got a hole they can't fix. They can't fix it at the trading deadline.
But you can just run on this team. They're a finesse football team. I think Baltimore has a hole you
can't fix at the trading deadline. They're a very average passing team, especially if they trail
late. Yesterday they let it half. They trail late. They don't have a lot of time. It's not what
they do well. I look at Seattle. I'm like, they don't have Carlos Dunlap, who'll easily be
their best defensive lineman. They don't have Jamal Adams, second best player, third best player
on the team. They don't have any healthy running backs. They're on rookies. And yesterday, that game
wasn't even that competitive against the best coach, I believe, young football coach in America,
Kyle Shanahan with a top five defense statistically and all sorts of playmakers. So I feel like
I have seen the three best teams in the league. I kind of know what they are. Seattle is four
with a chance to be better than all of them. And if you look at their schedule, what's scary for
Seattle is, boy, they got some cupcakes.
They got some teams that could be trading at the trading deadline coming up.
They've got some teams that aren't very good, that could be resting people.
Seattle has a shot going forward.
Their toughest games are in division, but they got some games coming up.
Seattle may end up being the number one seed.
And if they become that, we know that half of the season, they didn't have Jamal Adams,
Carlos Dunlap, and hit and miss on healthy running backs.
Very good football team.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam Jett.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
They're finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games.
And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way.

If I see something, I'm going to say something.
Because I don't have any fear of being wrong.
If I'm wrong, what's going to happen?
Are you going to eat me?
I'm fine.
Okay, I don't mind being wrong.
And so I remember years and years.
ago I worked at the other place. Randy Moss was a patriot. And they were just crushing the league.
But he'd been there a few years and all of a sudden there was a Monday night game, New England
against Miami. And they targeted Randy Moss one time. And I came on the air Tuesday. I said he's
getting traded. And I got nothing but crap. I got crap from my bosses. They're like,
you just can't say that. And I said, I'm in the opinion space. He's going to get traded.
You don't target Randy Moss with Tom Brady one time. They're taking him out of the playbook.
John Goulet was there. My producer. John. Gullet was there. My producer. John.
you know what happens.
What happened, John?
Randy Moss got traded.
Yeah.
When I see stuff, I'm going to tell you, because I'm not, I don't care if I'm wrong, but I'm not going to lie.
I'm not going to withhold information.
So I've been thinking Tua was going to be a nice pro.
And then as Joey and I do this show every day, I'm watching all this video coming
all the time of practice.
And I'm thinking, okay, we're going to have a, we're going to have a debut.
And I watch Justin Herbert, Big and Strong and Burrow and Josh Allen and Lamar.
And I'm watching all these young quarterbacks, and they're one of two things.
Big men.
or wildly athletic.
And so I had an epiphany.
I said, two is not going to work.
He'll win games.
I mean, Trubisky wins games.
He's not going to be what we think he is.
He's not going to be what I think he is.
So yesterday he debuts.
And that was my epiphany,
is that he looks small.
And he doesn't have a dynamic arm.
And the coaching staff protected him.
And they had eight first downs and 90 net passing yards.
And he was bad on third down.
And they almost never maintained drives.
I'm not making a judge.
just off one game. But when I see stuff, I'm going to say stuff. And I watch Joe Burrow and his everything
about him, I like, and he's got an okay arm, but he's dynamic. He moves around. I see Herbert. He had a
terrible pick yesterday. Herbert makes huge mistakes, but I see dynamic. And I never saw Andrew Luck,
Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, well, I did a little bit. Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert, I don't feel like
their coaches are protecting them. And I kind of feel like yesterday they just protected.
him. And I don't think you do that if you're at practice and you see him and you think,
just let him go. Now the next two weeks he takes on Justin Herbert and Kyler Murray or
Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert and that or we'll know a lot more then. We'll know a lot more
then. But this is, when I watched it yesterday, Tua is going to win games. I'm not, that's not
the point here. This is a really good coaching staff. And this was a perfect game. I predicted
Miami would beat the Rams. I said, this is a bad spot for the Rams. Short week, Monday night
football, 3,000 mile flight, early 10 o'clock Pacific window.
That's a terrible spot for a football team.
Miami was off a bite.
Miami got eight to 10 more days of prep for this game.
That's a terrible spot to go up against Brian Flores.
You're not going to win that game.
Not a lot of teams are going to win that game.
Pittsburgh probably wins it.
Kansas City wins it.
Rams aren't going to win that game.
So I picked Miami.
But that to a thing, that's what I saw.
I see small.
I don't see dynamic.
I think in this league, you've got to be one or two things.
You've got to be like 28 of the 30 best quarterbacks I've seen in my life are big men.
I'm 6-2.
They're taller than me slightly or above.
Aaron Rogers is on the small end, 6-2 and a half.
They're big men.
And if they're not, Fran Tarkin and Russell Wilson, Michael Vick, they run around like crazy,
open up passing lanes.
The only exception is Drew Brees.
And boy, you're asking a lot for a college kid to come into the NFL and say,
all right, you're small and not very mobile.
You've got to be Drew Brees to win.
That's asking a lot.
That is like landing, you know, that's like throwing out a quarter and telling a, you know, an airplane to land on it.
You know, it's not the easiest spot to land on.
So maybe I'm wrong.
But this news came out yesterday.
This news came out yesterday.
Adam Schaefter reported what we had been talking about for months.
Why did Miami sit red house?
hot veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Because Miami's got Houston's
first round pick and it's a top five
pick and they're going to move
if Tua after eight games doesn't
have it. It's not about winning.
It's not about stats. Burroughs
not winning every week. Herbert's
not winning much. It's not about that.
It's about it.
Lamar's got some it. Josh Allen's got some it.
Even Drew Locke's got some it.
Does Tua have it?
I saw yesterday,
it looked like what I worried about.
Not a lot of it there.
Very tightly coached and prepared and protected.
That's what I saw.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd.
Weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
All right, Colin Wright, Colin wrong on Monday.
Here we go.
Where Colin was right.
Back-to-back winning weeks and Blazing 5.
I've had a couple of four-in-one weeks.
This week, I got the Colts, the Dolphins, the Broncos, and the Seahawks all delivered.
On the year, I'm one game under 500.
I saw the lines for next week.
They're already very tasty.
some really good lines so far.
So a very good back-to-back winning weeks for us.
We're almost there at 500.
Here we go.
Where Colin was wrong.
Well, I love my Ravens.
I had them at 16 and 0 and 15 and 1,
and I'll be honest with you,
they're just off.
Their defense is good,
but it's not quite as good as I thought.
And their offense,
yesterday they ran for 265 yards,
and their passing game has not elevated.
They're 5 and 2.
Too many mistakes.
Lamar is struggling, throwing the ball outside.
They just, Pittsburgh is what I thought Baltimore would be.
I really thought they would sort of steamroll.
They brought everybody back.
They made nice additions.
And they just aren't quite right yet.
Where Colin was right.
Reported yesterday morning, the reason the Dolphins played Tua and took out Ryan Fitzpatrick.
The reason was we were on this for a month.
They have Houston's first round pick.
Translation, if Tua doesn't work, they want to see it because they could be a top five pick and they could go get another quarterback.
So this is what we've said.
Quarterback now, you do not get two or three years.
Dwayne Haskins got eight games.
Josh Rosen got seven games.
Miami wants to see what they have in this division.
After eight games, if they see the it, he's in.
If they don't, he's gone.
that was reported yesterday by Adam Schaefter.
They played him because they're going to go get another quarterback if he's not the guy.
Where Colin was wrong.
I'm going to have to eliminate the L.A. Rams from my Super Bowl bubble.
No good team in this league implodes more often and faster than the Rams.
What was that second quarter?
I like Jared Goff.
I've seen him win shootouts with Patrick Mahomes.
But man, if you don't protect him, he sometimes he needs.
needs to learn how to take a sack. He'll throw a ball knowing he's going to get smoked.
It's like, dude, cover up, do a Brady, roll down to the turf. They just, they have too good
of a coaching staff to implode. And what's funny is, they'll play a great three quarters. They'll do
everything right. But they'll have a quarter or a half. They don't even look like they practiced.
I don't think you can win a Super Bowl or be in the bubble and this inconsistent.
Where Colin was right.
Odell Beckham Jr. never connected with Baker Mayfield.
That, according to Ian Rappaport, there's a real possibility he's played his final games with the Browns Rappaport reported Sunday morning.
According to him, Beckham's never fully embraced Cleveland, never had a good rapport with Baker Mayfield.
They may play better without it.
For the record, somebody in Odell Beckham's social circle told me this summer,
Baker and OBJ, they just don't really connect.
It's just not nobody to blame.
Not taking shots in anybody.
It just, it's not really good.
Where Colin was wrong.
Jimmy Garoppolo is falling into an issue where you take him out and sometimes Nick Mullins looks better.
He's got a consistency issue.
Yesterday he struggled.
I'm told it's the ankle.
They put Nick Mullins in.
Oh, three scoring drives.
Listen, we saw this last year, and I defended Garoppolo.
Last year, Kyle Shanahan started taking the ball out of his hands on third downs.
It's like, no, no, that's not good.
Remember, I kept saying, I can't argue, I like Garoppolo, but I can't win that argument.
You will always have that argument over me.
When the coach, who's really smart on offense, takes the ball out of his quarterback's hands,
okay, you win that argument.
I can't argue that.
And they're doing it now, and you put Mullins in, and Mullins is up and down the field,
that ain't good.
where Colin was right.
Even when they were one, four, and one,
I said the Eagles are going to win this division,
because if you give me the best coach,
the GM and the best quarterback in a division,
I'm going to win it.
And I don't care if they're one four and one.
They're going to win it.
And this morning, what do you know?
They're getting healthier.
Lane Johnson's coming back.
Miles Sanders coming back.
Zach Ertz will eventually come back in a few weeks.
This is classic.
Carson Wentz.
Listen, last 12 games, 7-4-1.
None are pretty.
But we've got to be fair here.
What is he working with?
catastrophic injuries at running back, tight-end, wide receiver offensive line last 12 games,
he's 1-7.
Judge people in crisis.
What are people in crisis?
Not when everything's great.
This kid's played in crisis for the last 12 games, and he's 1-7.
And by the way, the losses, you know, he loses to Pittsburgh.
He loses to Baltimore.
He's not going out there and getting rolled by the Jags.
So let's give him some credit here.
But when they were bad, I said, if you give me the best GM coach quarterback, you will
will win the division, and they're doing it.
Where Colin was wrong.
You know what? I like Jim Harbaugh more than everybody else.
And this is not good enough.
You can't lose as a 20-point favor to Michigan State.
You can't. I can't argue it.
You're not going to get fired.
But you know what's funny about Harbaugh, as much as I like him?
Why can't they get the quarterback right?
You were an NFL quarterback.
Like he got it right at Stanford.
He got it right when he was at San Diego.
In San Francisco, he won with Kaepernick.
They can't get the quarterback.
They're not special at quarterback.
They're just not getting it right there.
And frankly, week to week, I mean, one week they look great.
The next week they're awful.
And I've always said what makes great coaching,
coaching is really hard.
But what makes great coaching is not just wins and losses.
Do I get the same football team every week?
And with hardball, you do not.
Sometimes you get a highly effective, highly emotional, highly physical team.
And then they were just flat.
They just weren't ready to play.
And, you know, we all have bad weeks and bad shows and bad games.
but so far
he's better than Brady Hope
but he has not been as
consistently good and no more excuses
by the way he's got these are all his players now
these are not anybody else's players this is
his staff his coaches
his players you can't lose that game
Mel Tucker
none of those those aren't even he's playing with somebody else's guys
you've got to be able to be Michigan State
and Mel Tucker's playing with somebody
else's players
bad
where Colin was right
Russell Wilson's on pace to throw for 59 touchdown passes, which would be an NFL record.
I've been on this for years.
I think he's the world's best football player.
Mahomes has the best quarterback talent I've ever seen.
I think Russell's the world's best football player.
Pre-snap, post-snap, leadership, elevating others.
He didn't have any of his top three running backs.
I mean, I've got to be honest with you.
San Francisco the last two weeks has crushed New England, has crushed the Rams.
and Russell Wilson, first of all,
it's like Steph Curry, pump fakes, crossovers.
Everybody's always off balance.
Every defender never gets a good shot at him.
You're always just, is he running?
Is he throwing?
Is he sliding?
You can't get it.
Nobody gets a shot.
He's been in the league, what, eight years?
Has anybody gotten a good hit on him?
Ever? Once?
Seriously, once a clean shot on him?
I think he's the best football player in the world.
I really do.
My home's the best quarterback talent I've ever seen in the last decade.
There you go.
Colin right,
Colin wrong.
Good stuff.
What to make a Green Bay?
Yeah.
You know, it's yesterday I watched Green Bay and I'm like,
I always have an opinion on Green Bay.
I almost went to Twitter yesterday and just say, hey, you tell me what you are.
Because I can tell you what I think the Packers are, but what does Green Bay think they are?
And you and I were talking about this, I think we all know what Green Bay is.
They're a frontrunner.
They're a good finesse team.
They were comfortable against Houston.
rush. They're great. They are, they are, Green Bay is the convertible sports car of automobiles.
God, they're great in the summer and great in the early fall. But you got to get the SUV
out in the off-road vehicle for November, December, and January, February, March. And that's just
not who they are. They are a, by the way, nothing looks cooler in the summer and early fall.
Nothing looks, you ever seen a guy or a couple, a woman in a convertible sports car in the summer and fall?
I mean, you don't know what they do for a living.
Oh, they're billionaires.
Nothing looks cooler in the summer and fall than a sports car convertible.
That is Green Bay.
When they're on, Aaron Rogers is the coolest guy in the world.
But boy, the minute you get hail, slush, you've got to get the SUV and park the sports car.
And that's what Green Bay is.
Yeah.
They can play one way.
They play when it's comfortable.
And by the way, they're still going to win 12 games this year.
I went and looked at their schedule this morning.
They're going to win 12 games.
but Minnesota basically said, yeah, we're going to run at you for three and a half hours.
Stop us.
They couldn't.
Yeah, I mean, I loved them last year, and they clearly did nothing to address their issues from last year.
Yeah.
Because I still think they're a great football team.
They are.
That's not a game you should lose.
Yeah.
It's just, they're like a boxer that has to have, they.
The perfect matchup.
Yeah.
They're not going to be able to fight this guy or that, but if you give them the right kind of fighter,
the great ones, the Evander Holyfields and the Sugar Ray Leonard's, you could
give them a brawler.
You could get them the guy the dancer, the brawler.
They could win all the fights.
Green Bay has got a fight one way, and when they do, nobody looks better.
They look great in August 15th, driving to the shore, convertible sports car.
Hail, storm clouds, put it away, baby, because they can't compete.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?

To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Trent Dilford, wait, was never an issue.
And I mean that lovingly.
A decade and a half in the NFL of Pro Bowl, Super Bowls.
My friend Trent Dilfer, by the way, head football coach Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee,
won 21 to 7 Friday.
They have swept their region in the final regular season game, and he is now joining us live.
So in the NFL, there's a, and I meant that lovingly.
Weight's not an issue.
You always had the pudding.
You always had a little bit.
Thanks, brother.
There are things in the NFL you can correct.
You can coach them up.
There's a trading deadline.
That happens all the time.
Your football team, there's things you can get better at.
The one thing you look at and you're like, I don't know, it's hard to take a team that doesn't love physicality.
And in four months, say, be physical.
And I watched Green Bay and Minnesota said, we're not even going to spread it around.
We're going to give it to Delvin Cook 35 times.
Stop us.
and Trent, they can't, again.
And like, I know Green Bay is good.
They're going to win 12 games.
But can you take a team that feels very much like a finesse football team?
Can you change that in the next three months?
Not to a significant level.
You know, I think they definitely lack some discipline
and some physicality at the linebacker position, especially.
You see the linebackers getting lost a lot.
Some of this might be they're just confused.
They're not sure on the run fits.
when you're not sure when your body's
when your mind's cluttered your body's going to be
slower and less physical
but I think you nailed it
Green Bay to finish the race
okay they're going to win a lot of games
they're going to get in the playoffs they're going to be a
big seed because they're so talented
offensively especially with Aaron Rogers
but to finish the race you have to be
ultra physical you have to play fast all the time
you have to make a statement with your
defense and how they attack
ball carriers receivers
attack the ball itself
you don't see that from this Green Bay Packers defense.
I think they can make fixes, but can they fix that issue in a short amount of time?
I don't think so.
So let's look at Seattle, where I see a football team that actually lacks something,
but I think they can solve it.
Jamal Adams is a highly physical safety.
Carlos Dunlap's always been sort of long and athletic on the edge.
And I look at them, they've also got a couple of young starters,
and I think Pete's always been a really good teacher.
And I look at Seattle, and I'm like,
I could see them becoming like the 15th best defense in the NFL.
Not great, but good enough.
I mean, I'm kind of amazed.
They're a personal foul penalty from 7 and 0.
They got no running backs, no pass rush.
Jamal Adams isn't playing.
I think Seattle's actually got more upside.
That's what I see when I watch them play.
Your thoughts?
I agree completely.
And I look at Kansas City last year at this point in the season,
wasn't a very good defense.
We said some of the same things we're saying about Seattle,
about Kansas City's defense at this point last year.
And by the end of the year, they were playing great defense and carried it over to this season.
I think the Seahawks, they're never going to be a great defense this year.
But you add Jamal Adams back.
You get Carlos Dunlap, like you're saying, playing that pass rushing, long, disruptive defensive end.
And a lot of these guys that are making mistakes are also getting better.
And I think you said the most important pieces of this in that comment was the Pete Carroll teaching you.
I think the one thing the Seahawks don't lack is physicality.
They're a physical tough group.
They lack pass rush.
They lack disruption.
I think you're going to add some pieces that will allow them to disrupt more.
But also they have one of the greatest defensive coaches that's ever walked the planet that's going to continue to get them better as the year goes on.
And you marry that with arguably the most dynamic offense in all of football and the front runner for the MVP and Russell Wilson.
They're most likely going to play at the lead a lot also.
And a very good special teams team.
So complementary when you start mixing it all together, I'm with you.
I can see the Seahawks being good enough on defense, being excellent on special teams and being phenomenal on offense.
I think that is a recipe by playoff time that can get you cooking and get you all the way of the finish line.
Okay, Lamar's hit a wall.
That's what the league does.
I mean, I always think about this in the NBA.
LeBron's an exception.
But like when Kobe comes into the NBA, you watch him for a couple years.
force him left, force him left. And the great ones break through your game plan to stop them.
That's what Mahalms, like, oh, put a zone up. And that works for about three weeks against Mahomes,
and he figures out that. Like Lamar's hit a wall. Can he break through it?
I think he can. I still think Lamar's one of the most dynamic players in the NFL.
And he does strike fear in the heart of his opponents. I know what Mike Tomlin said yesterday
about they don't fear anybody, and I respect that, but he strikes fear into everybody they play
because he's so dynamic, he can turn in, you play into a home run.
The issue I see is this, and I think you nailed it also earlier on the show.
Third down is the area that he has to devote the most attention to,
and the staff has to devote the most attention to for his growth.
So saying he gets better at third down, which I think he will with more work.
The thing you don't have to do with Lamar is try to make him something he's not on first and second down.
What happened yesterday was they started doing drop-back pass on early downs in the red zone
when they're running the ball at will against the Pittsburgh Steelers and play action would be much more successful.
He's a guy that you should never call pass play outside of third down,
that there isn't a run threat as part of that pass play,
because that is what freaks defense is out,
and that's what gives him the defined looks and doesn't allow you to play him traditionally.
And what I'm seeing in Baltimore here a couple of games is they're trying to call NFL drop back passes on first and second down.
sure he can function a high level and practice of those. But why put that stress on him? Why not
strike fear into the heart of the defense with the run, run action component of it and make his job a little
easier on first and second down? Then, as you talked about earlier in your show, devote a ton of
resources, a ton of time, a ton of training into the third down part of the game so that he can get better
at that piece. I think Lamar is going to get better. The one thing he's proven from his time at Louisville to
now is that he is like Kobe Bryant. Like you said, he'll address whatever he's deficient at,
and he will go on to correct it. I'm not giving up on Lamar Jackson. I still think he's a
fantastic football player. Okay, so I had an epiphany last week, and I say, I don't mind being
wrong. I've been wrong a lot, but I'm never going to hide information. And I was driving to
work, and I thought a lot about this, and I'd watch Burrow and Herbert and Lamar and Josh Allen,
and what is working. There is some dynamic special physical talent. Baker struggling. They're
really isn't. And I thought with Tua, I said, God, 28 of the 30 best quarterbacks I've ever
watched play were either big men, physical big men, or if they're not Fran Tarkin and Russell
Wilson, you can't catch him. Kyler Murray's got some of this. Like, okay, that's ridiculous.
And then I looked at Tua and I thought, he's not big, and he's not real mobile, so he has to
be Drew Brees. Well, good Lord, that's a very difficult, if that is your one small, not a big
arm, not real mobile. And I said last week, I said, I have this.
fear, I'm just not going to see any it.
And I watched yesterday, and I know he's smart, I know it works hard, but what's the it
with Tua?
What is, what do I go?
Whoa.
Whoa, that's dynamic.
What is it?
Because I don't see it.
I think you'll see it.
I think it's one, it's one game, a game where their defense dominated.
They didn't need to do much offensively.
It was more one of those managed the game, get out of the game with a win.
Once I think they have 28-7.
in the third and it was really kind of, okay, we'll throw it when we have to, but let's finish
this thing. I know just because I've been around to us so much, he has the it. The itch is the
combination of horsepower and Twitch that he has. You can't put mobility on it. He's got
small area of quickness along with power that very few have. What will come out in the rest of the
year as he plays is the wow factor with that combination of power of Twitch. He will do things
off platform in the pocket. He will extend plays and he will pierce the ball downfield like very
few can. You're talking about, in my opinion, one of the all-time great accurate deep ball
throwers. And people say, well, look who he's throwing to at Alabama. Okay, go back and watch
a lot of those deep throws. They're not always to wide open receivers. He threw a lot of those guys
open to also has incredible vision. I've been around very few young players that see the field
boundary to boundary. Most of them see the field and halves. He sees it side of the level. He sees it,
line to sideline. So again, time will tell. I do think he'll take his lumps this year,
like most young quarterback's too. By the way, Joe Burroughs taking some lumps too. I'm blown away
by him and Herbert, but they're still making some mistakes, as Will Tua. But it will come out
rather quickly. We'll do the show in January and we'll revisit the Tua thing. And I'm pretty
confident that you'll go, okay, now I see the it. Finally, Trent Dillfer joining us 15 years in the
NFL, his team Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, 21 to 7 Friday. We talk about this.
sometimes, I said yesterday, I'm not going to crush Baker or defend Derek Carr.
I felt Gruden won the game.
I thought he had a great coaching Sunday.
Now, as a coach, we all have egos.
Like, I'm sure you've had a game where you thought, boy, we got these guys.
We really got him.
But I watched that thing yesterday, and I got to be honest with you, Gruden, Raiders are a tough out.
They beat Breeze.
They beat Mahomes.
what do you make a Gruden, the person you know him pretty well, the innovator.
Is this thing, I mean, what do you think we're talking about in five years with Gruden?
I've never been more impressed with John Gruden than I am right now, and he was very good coach for a long time in the NFL.
I think his time away allowed him to take a big deep breath, relook at football and how you win football games consistently.
And if you go back and listen to his telecast on Monday night football, anytime the Patriots play, he
always, he, everybody pays homage to Bill Belichick. He did it differently. He would always try to
explain all the different ways Bill would find to win games despite fluid circumstances. And that's
what I'm seeing with John Gruden is. He's looking to win the game, however he can win it, that day.
It doesn't have to look a certain way. It doesn't have to get certain guys the ball. The stat pages
don't have to say anything special. It's, okay, there's a lot of ways to win for,
football games and we're going to prepare our team every week to win them a bunch of different
ways because we don't know which way it's going to be this week. His ego's out of it. You're not
seeing a ton of John Gruden interviews. You're not hearing a lot about them. They're just going
about their business. He's definitely instilled a toughness in them and a great in that team that
they haven't had for years. I've been really, really impressed with how him and Mayak have put
this team together, but especially how John's coached it this year. All right, congrats on
the win Friday. You guys play a play a playoff game coming up?
We do have a first round.
Yep, we've won eight in a row, but that doesn't matter unless we win this one.
