Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. On the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:01:06 For 1979, that was a big moment for me. 84 was big to me. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
Starting point is 00:01:22 84 was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
Starting point is 00:01:41 You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes,
Starting point is 00:02:06 follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Starting point is 00:02:31 Time to change your wireless provider. Go to Pure TalkUSA.com. Unlimited text, unlimited talk, two gigs of data, $20 a month. Grab your mobile phone. Dial pound 250 and say Colin Coward. Pound 250 and say my name. You'll save a lot of money. 400 bucks a year.
Starting point is 00:02:51 Joy Taylor's joining me. Mark Schlerth was doing three Super Bowl rings, multiple-time pro bowler. He was doing the Seahawks Niners game yesterday, which I watched and listened to, and he's now joining me from his basement. Or he is watching film because he told me when you do a game,
Starting point is 00:03:05 you've got to catch up Monday morning before you come on this big barnyard musical called The Herd. You've got to catch up on all your game tape. So I want to start with this. You saw Jamal Adams work out. And I said this earlier. There's a lot of teams, like Green Bay can't stop the run. Can't take them seriously as a Super Bowl team.
Starting point is 00:03:21 Baltimore passing game. Got issues. Can't play from behind. Seattle is the, I think, the best teams I've seen. Pittsburgh, Kansas City, and Tampa. One other team, I think, could be better than all of them, potentially, is Seattle. Jamal Adams hasn't played. Carlos Dunlap hasn't played.
Starting point is 00:03:39 They're on four-string running backs. Everybody's hurt. You called the game yesterday. Am I overselling Seattle? Because I'm watching them go six and one, and I'm like, they don't have great players they're not playing right now. Yeah, no, I don't think you are, Colin. I think there's a couple of different things. number one offensively. We know what Russell Wilson is. He's an MVP candidate,
Starting point is 00:04:00 DK.K. Mekap. Like in a league of complete and total freak shows, he is the freakiest of all freak shows. That guy is special. I mean, he's flat out special. And yesterday, offensively, they're in a situation where they can't run the ball. There is nothing they can do running the ball. They're down on their four string running back. And so they just say, hey, Russell, man, go out there and do your thing. And it was phenomenal the way he played the game, not only running the ball, creating first downs, throwing off balance, off platform, and just absolutely dominating the football game.
Starting point is 00:04:34 But the thing that was the most amazing to me is this is a team that has been just, I mean, like you talked about the injuries, but they have just been torched on the defensive side of the ball, giving up all kinds of explosives, and they just have not played very well. Yesterday, that defense looked like a championship caliber defense. They played exceptionally well. Their linebackers were stout. They were aggressive. They set the tone.
Starting point is 00:05:01 They didn't make a bunch of mistakes in the passing game like they have in the last few weeks, giving up the explosive plays. And when they get Jamal Adams back, that guy is an exceptional football player, deep, middle, and probably the best blitzer they have on their football team. When they rectify the defensive side of the ball, which they went a long way to doing yesterday, that team has a chance to be a Super Bowl contender or a Super Bowl winner. Marksler with joining me, Redskins, Broncos.
Starting point is 00:05:28 So I was talking to Trent Dill for an hour and a half ago about this a little bit. I said there's a lot of things you can correct in a season. Like you can go acquire somebody at the deadline. Seattle did that with Carlos Dunlap. But I don't know if you can take a finesse team and make them physical in eight weeks. And I watched Green Bay yesterday and Dalvin Cook. It's not that he ran. they didn't even feign passing.
Starting point is 00:05:52 14 attempts for Kirkcutt. Mike Zimmer didn't even let Green Bay think he was interested in passing, and they ran the ball at will with one guy over and over and over. I mean, is that you can't, can you go from that defense to special in eight weeks? I mean, I don't know if you can in Green Bay. Well, here's the thing. Like, think about the way Green Bay operates as an offense. And, you know, there are offense that wants to throw the full.
Starting point is 00:06:18 football and it's Aaron Rogers and we're going to air it out. And I know they run the ball, but they run the ball because, why? Because you have number 12 back there orchestrating, right? And how do you develop as a defense when you never face an offense during training camp that actually threatens you from a physical standpoint? The interesting thing about football is if you control line of scrimmage on a consistent basis, you're going to win a heck of a lot of games regardless of who you got playing. Now, obviously, you've got to have the quarterback.
Starting point is 00:06:47 there's no question about that. But when you physically dominate the line of scrimmage on both sides, you're going to win a lot of football games. And ultimately, they just got thunderstruck right in the mouth during the course of that game. And they did not have an answer for that. So I am 100% with you. It is a really tough thing to all of a sudden say, hey, wait a minute, let's be a tough.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Let's be a hard-nosed defense. Let's stop the run. Let's control the line of scrimmage. When that's not really how you're wired, that never really was how you were wired, and that's not how you practiced against your own offense. So I think it's one of those things that I'm going to agree with you. It's really hard to make that kind of philosophical change with eight weeks left in the season. Yeah, I mean, that's why if you look at their draft in Green Bay, they went after a blocking tight end,
Starting point is 00:07:34 a power running back, interior lineman. Like, they know it's an issue, and they still look like the exact same team. So Joey and I got into this. So when you were in the NFL, Elway was the best quarterback in his division. You don't have to have Elway or the best quarterback in your division, but you cannot have the fourth best quarterback in your division. You just can't. And so I'm watching Justin Herbert and Drew Locke yesterday.
Starting point is 00:07:56 And I'm like, okay, he's not Mahomes. Drew Locke's not Mahomes. He's not as gifted as Justin Herbert. Sigh is arm. Derek Carr throws about as accurate as football as the league has. So he's not, and I saw Drew Locke. I thought, if I'm John Elway watching that, I'm like, okay, we won the game. But for the next 10 years, can we have the fourth?
Starting point is 00:08:16 and I think Drew is about the fourth most talented quarterback in your division. I mean, that's my interpretation of. Forget the moment in the game. Herbert as a rookie with no training camp, no preseason, looks so talented. What do you do if you're Denver with Drew Locke? What do you do with that going forward? Well, I mean, you're going to have to hope that you can continue to develop him
Starting point is 00:08:38 because at this point you're winning games. It's not like you're in the sweepstakes for one of the top quarterbacks in the national for the in the draft, whether it's fields or, you know, or the kid from Baylor, or excuse me, Clemson. So, like, I mean, to me right now, you're kind of, you're kind of in that mode where you've got to develop your guy. Hey, Drew's a very talented player. There's no question about that.
Starting point is 00:09:03 But yesterday's game looked to me, Colin, like it was one of those situations where I had visions of Tim Tebow playing in Denver, where it was three and a half quarters of absolute Drek and you know and 10 minutes of brilliance right and you can't win like that I mean I cannot throw away what I've seen for seven straight quarters because he had one good quarter right like so that that that frightens me a little bit but there's no question the talent is there there's no question that that he's got some great upside and I think coming into this thing he was a little behind the curve because look at what he went through at Mizzou where he was what he have uh yeah four different coordinators in four years.
Starting point is 00:09:47 He had a fifth coordinator last year for Denver, and then they changed his coordinator again. So in six years of football, he's had six different offensive coordinators, six different systems. Like, I'm going to cut the kid a little bit of a break, but I'm with you on the division in general. I mean, Mahomes and Herbert looks like the real deal,
Starting point is 00:10:05 and obviously what Carr has done with the Raiders, the guy is, I think he's a very undervalued and underrated quarterback. Yeah, I think we do too. All right, so Tua, what's the secret sauce? It looked pretty safe to me, eight first downs. I'm not going to make harsh judgments, but he looks small. He doesn't have a ton of wiggle as an athlete.
Starting point is 00:10:26 I mean, what did you make a Tua yesterday? I mean, I looked at it like a guy that was just managing the game and trusting that defensively and special teams were going to bail them out, which they certainly did. Offensively, they really, I mean, they really did nothing. and given against a good Rams defense with one of the best players or the best player in my opinion in Aaron Donald. But, you know, protecting to, I think that was a big part of the game plan going in
Starting point is 00:10:53 is get his feet wet but protecting. He made some really nice throws. Occasionally a couple of really good throws. But for the most part, it was pretty mediocre. You know, just don't turn the ball over is what it looked like to me. Don't turn the ball over. We're going to be okay. You're not going to win a lot of guys.
Starting point is 00:11:10 games doing that. Obviously, you're going to have to up your level of play and up your level of offense. But to get a win in your first start, I think that was encouraging. And like I said, there were a couple of strikes that he threw on some slants and a couple other throws that I thought were really good throws. But offensively, they were awful. I think when they have eight first downs, something like that, I mean, they were not very good. So Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Baltimore dominates the statistical lines. Lamar struggles. But, you know, Pittsburgh, could look at it this way. Hey, we didn't do very well statistically in one, or you could look at it this way and say, we couldn't move the football. We could not move
Starting point is 00:11:48 the football. And we couldn't stop them moving the football. There's no question in Baltimore today. You could say, we came down to one play and Lamar was mostly as bad as he's been. Where did you land on that game? Well, it was interesting for me because, you know, it's almost as though Pittsburgh said, hey, listen, we're going to let you run the ball on us. we're going to play some deeper zones. We're going to make sure that we make it cloudy for Lamar because we do not believe with our pass rush, we're going to get to you occasionally, right? We're going to put some pressure on you as a defensive football team.
Starting point is 00:12:23 But we're going to play a bunch of zone coverage. We're going to make you layer the football. We're going to make you decipher your routes and your route combinations because ultimately when you look at what has failed the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs is when they're behind or when they're 14. to throw the ball with layered concepts and, you know, vertical concepts, not just one guy running a seam that's wide open because you're in man to man across the board. Lamar hasn't been very good. And I think that was part of the Pittsburgh Steelers game plan is to say, we're going to make you in these situations beat us throwing the football in our zones.
Starting point is 00:13:03 The first interception, they ran a zone blitz, so they dropped the outside linebacker Dupree off the ball, took away his seam read. He came back across the field to throw it in the middle of the field. Linebacker picks it off and takes a pick six on the third play of a game. Like that's what Pittsburgh said is you can't beat us throwing the football. So eventually we'll stop. You get you into a third down and six, third down and seven situation. And then we're going to just have all eyes on the quarterback and make you throw some type of layered route,
Starting point is 00:13:33 make you throw a combination or a route combination and see if you can get it done. and that's where the two interceptions happen. And, you know, those things are turning points in the game. Yeah. Mark Schlerer at three Super Bowl rings. Good seeing you, buddy, in his basement in beautiful Denver, Colorado. Thanks. Thanks, Mark.
Starting point is 00:13:49 All right, buddy. Take care. Good stuff on a Monday. You know, it's interesting. When you play, I was thinking about this, Joy, when you play a great defense like Pittsburgh or like Tampa's defense really fast, it's actually like asking a typist. And let's say you do 70 words a minute. And somebody comes and says, you've got to do 112 words a minute.
Starting point is 00:14:05 it's not that you don't have a lot of accuracy, but you'll make more mistakes. So it's not like Lamar didn't have success, but what happens when you play the Steelers or the box, instead of three seconds to throw, you get 2.3. And so, like, I watched Lamar, and he made some good plays. But it's that three-tenths of a second on every drop, and they're just a little tighter to the receiver, and you have a little less time. And that's really the greatness. Remember, Tom Brady's throwing a lot of pick-sixes, a lot of them.
Starting point is 00:14:34 He's throwing them in Super Bowl. that's what's amazing about like a Russell Wilson is you get all the upside you get none of the mistakes. He's so fast. He's just cognitively. Russell's just functioning at a level. It's like Peyton Manning. You're just going a zillion miles an hour. Burroughs got a little bit of that, but he still makes mistakes.
Starting point is 00:14:52 So it's not like Lamar isn't having success and all these guys aren't having success. But when you play a great defense, what they make you do is everything faster. Like there was a play we show where Lamar was in the huddle and then he moves up in the huddle and he's still. looking, he probably would have been best served to just go. Like, when you play the Steelers, like first instinct, go with it. Whereas if you play the Falcons, first instinct, I'm going to give a little time. It's amazing how long a second lasts in a pocket. Lamar had a couple of moments yesterday.
Starting point is 00:15:23 They're playing Atlanta. Those are fine. You're playing most teams in the NFL. It's fine. You play Pittsburgh and Tam. Aaron Rogers, that throw down the sideline works against everybody in the league, except Pittsburgh and maybe like, you know, Tampa. So, by the way, it unraveled.
Starting point is 00:15:42 It's not like Lamar can't play. Go look at Aaron Rogers last week against Tampa. Like, you're going to have bad games in this league. And it's the teams that force you to type. If you're a great type, you should go 120 words a minute. And they ask you to go 138 and you just misspelled a couple times. And that's the difference in that game. I mean, let's be honest, Lamar came down to the final play.
Starting point is 00:16:03 So it's funny. I do think Baltimore played its game and lost, and that's really discouraging. But maybe I should look at it and go, yeah, Baltimore imposed their will on Pittsburgh and made Pittsburgh played Baltimore's game. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe Baltimore's this morning like John Harbaugh says, we dominated the game. We do whatever we wanted to. We just made one too many errors.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Otherwise, we win the football game. So Baltimore could literally a coach could come in this morning. And Tomlin similarly could go, don't get too high on yourself. they ran for 275 yard you guys should know you got pushed around for three and a half hours by Baltimore generally that's what it comes down to in games with two great teams a play a moment and they just Pittsburgh in tampa deep you'll see Tampa tonight they just make a quarterback that run by Lamar where he kept it kept it kept it and fumbled had he just said I'm just going to run but also Lamar is still a very young quarterback in this league I know our patience is completely diminished
Starting point is 00:16:57 he and Sam Darnold are like kids but he's not been in the league that long he's still learning things like this. Like if you compare the Steelers to the Ravens, like you have Ben Rothesberger and Mike Tomlin and the Steelers defense. Like that's going to come down to at the end of the day. That's going to be what the difference is. Yeah, good stuff. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
Starting point is 00:17:33 I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. Starting point is 00:18:44 Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam Jay and I'm Alex English Each episode we pick it here
Starting point is 00:19:03 unpack what went down And try to make sense of how we survived it Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill Waxing all about crack in the 80s To be clear, 84 is big to me Not just because of crack I'm down to talk about crack on day But just so y'all know
Starting point is 00:19:19 I mean at this point Mark this is the second episode Where we've discussed crack So I'm starting to see that there's a through line We also have AIDS on the table right now So Thank you for finishing that. sentence.
Starting point is 00:19:29 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast,
Starting point is 00:19:46 Learn the Hard Way with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests, I'm talking. Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Starting point is 00:20:01 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.
Starting point is 00:20:19 Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different. levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keer Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new
Starting point is 00:20:38 podcast, Learn the Hardway. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Joy with the News. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Herdline News. Well, with Trevor Lawrence out, freshman quarterback DJ Uiagulele, Yeah. No. Ullae. Got it.
Starting point is 00:21:01 Got his first start for Clemson Saturday, and the top-seated Tigers were down by as many as 18 points to unranked Boston College, but rallied back in the second half. Not going to lie, I was a little nervous for Clemson. But I did feel like they're not going to play this way in the second half. Maybe they turn it up a little bit, and then Boston College made a couple big mistakes. Many people believe he is the best quarterback prospect out of the state of California,
Starting point is 00:21:26 like since Elway. Yes, he was a top. Top quarterback. He was a five-star 9-99 rating. There was another great quarterback in California named Bryce Young, I think, who was exceptional, and this kid was ranked higher. So California had the two best high school quarterbacks in the country. This kid has NFL size, NFL arm, can move.
Starting point is 00:21:46 People believe, like, it's amazing. There are people that think he's actually more talented than Trevor Lawrence. He is a unbelievable prospect. He's a freshman, which would explain a little bit of the, slow start in the first half. He also ran for touchdown and threw through another in the third quarter. And Travis Etyn found the end zone to take the lead in the fourth. And then a safety with just a permanent left sealed the 3428 win for Clemson.
Starting point is 00:22:12 Travis Etyn also became the all-time leading rusher in the ACC in this game. He broke NC State running back Ted Brown's record of 4,602 yards and also set the record for the most games with a touchdown at 42. So Clemson has now won 36 consecutive record. regular season games. Their defense wasn't great. Offense is fine considering. So Davos when he announced that Trevor Lawrence will not be back for Clemson's game
Starting point is 00:22:36 against Notre Dame this weekend. They can win that game with this kid. I'm not sure if they will, but they can. They can. This game just thought very, very interesting, though. Like, that's... I'm going to take Clemson. That's a very big deal. You're still going to come soon. Yeah, I think this kid is so special. He throws... I mean, I'm sorry, your first game in college. He's a fresh... He was very impressive. He's throws... I mean, he just looks.
Starting point is 00:22:56 But that was Boston College. No disrespect. You guys played a great first half. That's right. Notre Dame is a different team. Dwayne Haskins' time in Washington may be coming to an end. The second year quarterback is reportedly on the trading block as we near the deadline tomorrow. He hasn't been actively shopped by Washington, but the team is open to trading him for the right price. His record this season is one and three.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Four passing touchdowns, one rushing touchdown, three interceptions. Obviously, he was benched week five. For Kyle Allen, so all that talk about not moving off of him is seems to be. a little untrue. Minnesota. So they're stuck with Kirk Cousins for two years. Okay. They have a great running back and star receivers. Their offensive line is better today in Minnesota than two years ago. Bigger, stronger arm than Kirk Cousins. You probably only have to give up a fifth round pick or something. If I've got Kurt Cousins for two years and he drives me nuts, I put this kid in, Minnesota's interesting. They've got, it's not a quarterback
Starting point is 00:23:54 reliant system. Yesterday, Kurt Cousins through 14 times. Minnesota is a place where I would go and say, bring him in, big strong kid. I think our coaching staff can do more with him. Mike Zimmer's pretty conservative. You're going to get not a quarterback-reliant offense. I don't know why I think about this, but if I was Minnesota, I would look at him.
Starting point is 00:24:15 If my scouts told me before the draft, they liked it. Likeed him. Yeah. So if you had some scout on him before, I would like to see him get another opportunity somewhere else. I feel like he has a little bit more in him. Obviously, Washington was not completely sold on him to begin with. And clearly, Rivera likes Kyle Allen because he had his system already.
Starting point is 00:24:33 Big kid, nice arm, he is not athletic. He's not going to give you any wiggle. But Kirk Cousins doesn't give you a ton of that. I think he can be successful in the right system. Everyone wants Patrick Mahomes. That's not happening. There's only one Patrick Mahomes. Everyone wants Russell Wilson.
Starting point is 00:24:48 There's only one Russell Wilson. Yes, they are. That's like what you're looking for. I understand that. But when people are out here talking about like, oh, well, he's not this, he's not that. Like, keep in mind, these are generational, once-in-a-lifetime athletes that we're talking about. Like, obviously you don't want to not aim for that,
Starting point is 00:25:03 but let's just not act like we're just where we're missing them every single year in the draft. Like, there's a reason Patrick Holmes is what he is and Russell Wilson is what he is. They're incredible. It's not an accident that they're that good. So the Bucks take on the Giants tonight on Monday Night Football and Jason Pierre Paul says he can't wait to go up against his former team.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Oh, yeah, this game definitely means something special to me. You know, Eli's not there no more, so I won't have to pick them up You're saying, you lie, man, you're good. So I'm coming for their next, man. They know that. And Jason Peer probably ain't coming and going nowhere. I'm going to Monday night football and going to destroy the giant. That's what I want to do as an individual, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:25:43 But I still have love for them. This will be the third meeting between the Bucks and Giants since JPP was traded. And he feels fully healthy. In 2018, he was nursing two MCL injuries and had seven tackles and one and a half sacks. but the Bucks still lost. I took the Giants plus 10.5. Foxbet. That's my bet. Foxbet has the Bucs at minus 12.5 now.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Okay. So. Yeah. I think the Giants are going to play really tough for about three quarters. So they'll cover. Giants have allowed 20 sacks this season. They're tied for ninth most in the league. And the Bucks have 25 sacks this season tied for third most in the league.
Starting point is 00:26:20 So it could be a rough night for Daniel Jones. But good matchup nonetheless. Good stuff. Joy, Taylor with the news. Well, that's the. News. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Lye News. The three-word game, every NFL game succinctly wrapped up, described
Starting point is 00:26:34 in three words, as we always do in our best for last on a Monday. That's coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. Imagine an Olympics
Starting point is 00:26:50 where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast, Superhuman, documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'm saying. Yep, that's me. Clever Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits. the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Starting point is 00:27:31 Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations,
Starting point is 00:28:01 stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So, if you've ever supported me, or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes,
Starting point is 00:28:16 follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said, that George Bush didn't like black people. I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do a little camp? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
Starting point is 00:28:34 I'm Sam Jett. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know.
Starting point is 00:28:55 I mean, at this point, Mark, this is. The second episode where we've discussed, correct. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you finishing that sentence. Yes. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really?
Starting point is 00:29:10 Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests.
Starting point is 00:29:34 I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:29:54 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're freed? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing,
Starting point is 00:30:11 growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way. Open your free iHeartRadio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Time to change your wireless provider, Pure Talk USA. Grab your phone, dial pound 250, and say Colin Coward. Unlimited text, unlimited talks, say 400 bucks a year. Pound 250, say my name.
Starting point is 00:30:37 Three-word game, we take every NFL game. We believe it can be reduced to three urgent, succinct words, and here we go. Patriots and bills. Reboot is official. The Patriots probably make a move by tomorrow at the trading deadline. They're doing it with pots and pans. Bondo duct tape. They got nothing left.
Starting point is 00:31:03 It's not been good for Cam. I don't think anybody can score many points with this offense. The reality is eight players opted out. Limitations with their salary cap. Belichick went on Sirius XM this weekend, acknowledging this was going to be a little bit of an offseason when you considered everything, including COVID, mispractices. They're officially looking toward the draft.
Starting point is 00:31:24 Steelers said Ravens. That's on Lamar. Seven turnovers and a 57 passer rating and two career starts against the Steelers. And it's their first loss win leading by 10 plus points. Listen, Baltimore had a great game plan. They out maneuvered them with time. They forced turnovers. They ran the heck out of the football.
Starting point is 00:31:45 I mean, Baltimore really should have won the football game. Lamar just struggled on key downs and made a couple of really bad throws. He had a pick six on the opening drive. Rams at Dolphins. Not too impressive. The dolphins were outgained by 326 yards. Let's be honest about Miami. It was a meltdown by the Rams.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Miami had a special teams touchdown, a defensive touchdown. I just don't see the it. It's early. Trent Dolfer assures me I'm going to see it. He looks a little small. I know he's an accurate thrower, and they are rebuilding the offensive line in fairness, but my concerns about Tua were realized in that start. Jets at Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:32:30 This is frightening. So Mahomes is the first player in NFL history through eight weeks to have 20 touchdowns and just one pick. They score in bunches. They score easy. They score clever. They are clearly creating clarity in this league. You've got to beat us by a shootout.
Starting point is 00:32:50 He can make all the throws, and Andy Reed can decide. design all the plays. Good luck, rest of the football world. Vikings and Packers. Let Delvin Cook, first player ever, NFL history, to score a touchdown on each of his team's first four possessions. Look at that hole. Green Bay has got an issue. Like they just gave him the ball. They only attempted 14 passes. I mean, they made no mystery of what they were trying to do. This is going to be Delvin Cook's day. And when he has helped, he's probably the best running back in the NFL. He can do a little bit of everything,
Starting point is 00:33:27 and they leaned on him big time. Colts and Lions. One year away, I feel like the Colts get the quarterback right. They're really dangerous. Now, Darius Leonard, literally, when he plays, it's a totally different defense, but they held the ball for almost 38 minutes against Detroit.
Starting point is 00:33:47 It was the highest time of possession all year. Again, I like their GM. I like their coach. I love their offensive line. Darius Leonard. I think they have to elevate their line backing in their front seven, their pass rush, and a quarterback, and they'll be a Super Bowl-level team. Raiders at Browns.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Game ball, Gruden. They didn't allow a touchdown. Did the Raiders first time in five years. Listen, the weather was a factor. I'm not going to blame Baker. I'm not going to elevate car. This was about coaching. They were tremendous situationally.
Starting point is 00:34:24 They were excellent on third down. I've had my issues with John Gruden, but this was one of these, hey man, you wouldn't want to land a plane in that weather. And it was just, we're going to go as an offensive team, and we're just going to muscle a win. And at the end of this season, you're going to look back as a
Starting point is 00:34:40 Raider fan. And this is going to be the game that could have gone either way and you lean on the $100 million coach, and he outduled Kevin Stefansky. Titans and Bengals. No, Joe. Schmo, Burrow was excellent.
Starting point is 00:34:54 70% completions. Two TDs, no picks, 107 passer rating. Kids really good. Now, the Titans don't have a pass rush. He's really good. I mean, I got to be honest, all these guys, no preseason,
Starting point is 00:35:09 no camp, no OTAs. Burrow looks really good. And actually, I think he's set at wide receiver. I think their wide receivers are good. I think the wide receivers in Burrow are fine. They got to draft the O line. They got to create a better pass rush on the other end.
Starting point is 00:35:24 But you've got to feel really good today if you're a bingo fan. Chargers at Broncos. That's so chargers. Oh, good. First team in NFL history to lose three straight games in which they led by 17 plus points. Now, sometimes with the Blazing Five, I get bad luck. This was the luckiest win I've ever had. I thought about not accepting it for but a second.
Starting point is 00:35:51 And then I said, I've had tough losses. I'm going to accept this. Now, give some credit to Drew Locke. He's a little bit of a playmaker. He's kind of fun. I mean, he's got a little it in him. There's no question. There's something there.
Starting point is 00:36:03 But the Chargers went conservative, didn't create much of a pass rush, and he's a kid. Here's the extra point that won it. Saints at Bears. Not buying Saints. They've trailed in every game. It's their second overtime win. I just don't buy the Saints. I don't understand how Michael Thomas.
Starting point is 00:36:21 can practice and not play. Lattermore's down. The pass rush isn't there. I'm not buying it. I feel like the window closed. And now, you know, they'll be a top 10-12 team, but I just don't see them
Starting point is 00:36:32 being a Super Bowl team. And I think we all know it's breezes last year. 49ers at Seahawks. About too sore. D.K. Metcalfe 12 catches. Lord, he was a beast. I think Seattle's really close
Starting point is 00:36:47 to being scary. Jamal Adams. Mark Schlera told us coming back. Carlos Dunlap now will play. They've got some young defensive players. Pete Carroll is known as a great mentor. D.K. Metcalfe and Russell Wilson are now better than ever. Tyler Lockett didn't get a ton of looks last night.
Starting point is 00:37:04 So this is Seattle team. Jamal Adams, Carlos Dunlap, Chris Carson gets healthy. I think they're about 75% of what they could be. And at 75% they're 6 and 1 and a personal foul call from 7-0. Cowboys and Eagles. Wentz wins ugly. Four turnovers in one. Bad on fourth down and one.
Starting point is 00:37:29 Lousy in the first half in one. No Lane Johnson, no Miles Sanders, no Zach Hertz, missing two of his receivers. You know, I'll say this. There are some guys, it's not pretty, but they just kind of, you know, they used to be a saying when I was in local TV, how is he or she when the red lights on it?
Starting point is 00:37:47 People can be, they look the part, but like, okay, you're not. live, go. And some people are just good when the red lights on. Wentz is, you know, fourth quarter, a minute left, big throw. He's just kind of, he's good when he has to be good. And then there's times he's awful. I mean, he is all sorts of bad.
Starting point is 00:38:05 But I, I, there's a word in French about something is so ugly, it's beautiful. That is wins to me. He can be so disastrous. There's a beauty in all of his mistakes. Rec tech more than a grill. by grillers, four grillers, R-E-C-T-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-C-E-REC-E-E-E-REC-E-E-B or just money in my wallet.
Starting point is 00:38:44 Well, you were right on the Dolphins game. This game we were. Yeah, this week we had a good week. Even our bonus pick, Goulet, our bonus pick was the Bears plus four and a half, So we got five out of six. Sometimes you get hot and lucky. All right, Joy, John, everybody. We'll see you on a Tuesday.
Starting point is 00:38:58 It's the hurt.
Starting point is 00:39:18 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying.
Starting point is 00:40:04 Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it.
Starting point is 00:40:25 Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Starting point is 00:40:47 with our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors. Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s. It was a wild year. It was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This is an IHeart podcast.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Guaranteed human.
