This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey,
or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast,
The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,
creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated.
So let's get to it.
Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more behind the scenes,
follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84's big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year,
unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians,
and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year. I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Thanks for listening to The Heard podcast. Be sure to catch us live every weekday from 12 to 3 Eastern, 9 to noon Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and FS1.

You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Ah, here we go. It's hour two. It is a Monday.
Almost forgot.
Live in Los Angeles, it's the herd.
Wherever you may be, and however you may be listening, we're on Fox Sports Radio,
IHeart Radio and FS One, and it's great to be here today.
It really is.
My hair's a little wild today.
It's okay.
Listen, it's November.
It's just a windier outside and get a,
Chili even here in Los Angeles.
A little chilly.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
Peter Schrager next hour, Trent Dill for a bit.
So you must be feeling great.
The heat got to the finals.
The Miami Dolphins.
If you look at their schedule,
they haven't lost since October 4th,
so they're not going to lose for the next three weeks.
You're going to go into December,
like on a sixth game winning streak.
That's a great, two great weekends.
Steelers won again.
Hurricanes won.
Who did the hurricanes beat?
Virginia Tech.
Okay, I didn't see that game.
It was closer than a show.
college football is all over the map this year.
You don't know who's playing.
It's a journey.
That's right.
All right, here we go.
Every Monday I admit where I whiff, some right, some wrong.
Here we go.
Where Colin was right.
I've been very streaky on Blazing Five this year and I had a great week.
I took the Giants to beat the Eagles straight out.
I thought Tampa would roll convincingly,
Carolina.
I thought the dolphins would keep it rolling.
And everybody likes Seattle, and I didn't.
I said if Jared Goff is comfortable, the Rams always win,
I picked them. By the way, I'm 6 and 1 on RAM picks this year.
So I'm now up to 24 wins, 25 losses, and a tie.
I've already seen the numbers this week.
Not sure if they're as good as last week, which I said was the best numbers this year, but they're good.
Where Colin was wrong.
I've been selling this whole rebooting thing in New England all year, and I thought they were going to be a five-win team, but they're now four and five.
And the reality is outside of the Steelers in Kansas City, this is a league of good but not special teams.
and they play defense.
And with Cam and bad weather, they run the ball.
And they're pretty efficient.
They're not going to, they had Buffalo on the ropes two weeks ago.
They had Seattle on the ropes.
Is that when you have a league with a bunch of good teams,
go to Foxborough with bad weather, Bill Belichick,
you got a young quarterback.
He makes it rough.
And they did.
They may be rebooting, but they did dominate time of possession.
They ran for 175 yards, and they're still a very effective team.
if they can get the right circumstances.
Where Colin was right?
I said it last year.
Week two of last year, I said,
you've got to watch this kid in Arizona.
I said, I know you all love Mahomes.
I've never seen a quarterback play like this, Kyler Murray.
I said, I'm the only guy that doesn't live in Arizona
that watches every snap of the Cardinals games.
Now the rest of you are seeing.
I've never seen a kid play like this.
He's not Russell Wilson.
He's way faster than Russell.
I mean, he runs.
like he's like a running back.
He's like 30%
Russ, 50% Michael
Vic.
I think he's more entertaining
to watch than even Mahomes.
I think we've seen quarterbacks
that share some of Mahomes' traits.
I said it week two last year.
I've never seen anything like this.
I've never seen a player like this in the NFL.
He's not the best player yet.
But his style, there is no comp.
And it's not Russell Wilson.
That's not it.
where Colin was wrong.
Getting harder and harder to defend Carson went to the Eagles,
listen, yesterday they ran the ball really, really well.
So he had a running game.
He had some of his receivers back,
and he had no touchdowns in a 73-passer rating.
I also think Doug Peterson got worked by Joe Judge,
but he's got to be more consistent.
Yesterday, it wasn't hero ball.
He just missed on some throws.
And again, I like him, but look at that throw.
That's just a bad NFL throw.
He missed open guys yesterday.
I mean, that's a terrible throw.
I thought Daniel Jones was fantastic yesterday
and looked by a long shot
like a significantly better NFL quarterback,
significantly better, more accurate, more zip, more athletic.
You know, I still like Wince's talent,
but it's not clicking this.
Somebody said in our show last week,
Chris Cooley, the former Washington Tide End,
he said, I don't know if this fits.
And after yesterday, I'm like, I don't know if it fits either.
where Colin was right.
I've been on this all year.
Tampa's a power running team with really good perimeter weapons.
Yesterday, they finally commit to the running game and what do you get?
Ronald Jones is an A running back.
He can have an occasional fumble problem, but he is great.
And Leonard Fournette is a really strong number two.
Gronk's one of the best blocking tight ends,
and it's an above-average blocking offensive line.
This is a run team.
They should be running 55 to 56.
percent of the time, not throwing it, 60 percent of the time. And I like their receivers.
But yesterday, when they finally committed to the run, what do you know? All their receivers
had great games. So I think Bruce Ariens and Brady are struggling, identifying what they are.
And I thought for the first time this year, maybe the second time, I'm like, okay, they're getting it.
They should be a power running team with the ability to, and by the way, did you notice Brady
yesterday through a lot of deep balls? Didn't connect on a lot of them. But Brady,
is seeing it. When the run game is this effective, you have, it sucks everybody up to the line,
and it creates huge over-the-top opportunities. Now, he didn't hit on him yesterday,
but that's what they should. A power running team that'll go over the top, not a team that goes
low percentage over-the-top plays to start games and then can't run because they're behind.
Where Colin was wrong. I said all summer, Drew Locke, I think he's going to pop. I see some
special here. He ain't it. You know what he is?
He's got the Baker Mayfield issue.
He thinks he's a lot better than he is, so he's loose.
He's kind of cocky.
He plays like he's better than he is, so he lacks a sort of humility when he plays.
And Baker's got this.
Baker thinks he's more athletic than he is.
Whereas Tua, I think, is starting to get, like, there are limitations to what I can do
athletically, so I have to be super accurate.
And Drew is way too loose, way too sloppy.
this doesn't work.
I mean, he had 10 picks in five games,
and it's really bad early in games,
where he should be on script,
where he should have things he knows he can do well.
He gets himself into huge holes every week with bad decisions.
Where Colin was right?
I never felt Baker was the number one pick.
I said Baker-Mayfield's a complimentary piece
to a really good running game,
and Cleveland's finally figured it out.
Cleveland yesterday,
now obviously weather was a big part of it.
When they rushed 30 or more times,
Baker's 5-0, fewer 1 and 3.
Baker Mayfield was a second to a third round talent.
He is a complimentary Case Keenham piece.
You can win games with a very good coach and a sturdy defense and a great running game.
That is when Case Keenham has flourished.
Have you noticed with Cleveland?
This bad weather actually plays into Cleveland's hands.
They're allowed to take passes off.
Don't have to worry about any grumbling, run the football.
It's when Cleveland's at their best.
where Colin was wrong.
I've always liked Jim Harbaugh more than everybody else.
This isn't working.
Now, I will say in defense of it, James Franklin's a good coach.
His team's a mess this year.
PJ flex is a good coach.
His team's a mess.
Some of this is the Big Ten is all over the map.
But you can't keep getting blown out.
Wisconsin had the deal with a massive COVID outbreak.
They couldn't practice on their schedule.
And they hammered Michigan.
and they can't get the quarterback right.
I can't figure that out because hardball you would think of all the positions as a former NFL
quarterback and an alpha would get the quarterback right.
But it's not working.
Again, what do they do well?
What do they do well?
Right now, Michigan does nothing well.
Where Colin was right?
Said a couple weeks ago, the New York Giants are the best bad team in the NFL.
They're the Miami Dolphins of last year.
Everybody bailed on him in September.
This is a good football team.
And stop banging on Daniel Jones.
He's really, really effective if you give him any time to throw.
He throws a beautiful football.
He doesn't have a huge arm.
He's a very effective runner.
And Dave Gettelman, you guys all crushed him for that OBJ trade.
He won that trade.
They got Dexter Lawrence, an excellent defensive lineman.
They ended up getting Jabriel Peppers is a box.
safety, who's third on the team and tackles, good on special teams, and a starting guard.
Cleveland didn't get much out of that deal.
The Giants won that trade.
They are absolutely, fundamentally, the best three and seven team in the NFL through
10 games I've ever seen.
If this team had more athletic ability on the perimeter, they're kind of pedestrian
on the outside, I think they can win a playoff game.
I just don't know if they have the next level.
where Colin was wrong.
I have been very critical of the Lakers front office.
I got to give him credit.
Reportedly, they have landed Dennis Schrooter, a point guard.
He's really good.
He's athletic.
He's only 27.
He's average double digits since his entire career.
He'll give you 18.
I thought he was, at times, their best playoff performer for OKC.
It's a very nice piece.
And the Lakers are absolutely better.
And according to reports, they gave up a 28 pick in this crappy draft.
and Danny Green, who I like, but he's old and he's expensive.
This is a really, really good deal if it's consummated by the Lakers.
It makes them younger.
It makes them more athletic.
It makes, they got a playoff experience guard.
And he's a double-digit score.
This is what he's been in his entire career.
This is a really, really good get for the Lakers if Rob Polenka can pull it off.
I saw that story this weekend.
I'm like, are you got to be kidding me?
because what they don't really have at point now,
they need younger legs, they've got to be more athletic.
And now all of a sudden, Avery Bradley comes back with Dennis Schrooter.
Now that's a formidable back court with the best front court,
LeBron and A.D. in the NBA.
So now all of a sudden, now that team, then this Laker team,
it's like, oh, Avery Bradley, Schrooter, Kuzma, LeBron, AD.
All right, that feels like a choice.
championship team with the confidence of just having won it.
Coming up next, Trent Dilfer stops by.
I got to tell you, he loved Tua.
He told me two years ago.
He's going to be unbelievable.
He's right.
Tua looks phenomenal.
So are the dolphins.
That's coming up.

Do you remember when Diana Ross
double-tap little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said,
George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush

Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.

To be clear, 84 is big to me,
not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day,
but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point,
Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed,
Craig.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,

Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.

Two of the most exciting quarterbacks in the league square off
when Kyler Murray and the Cardinals take on Russell Wilson and the Seahawks.
Thursday night football this week at 730 Eastern, 430 Pacific on Fox, NFL Network,
and streaming on Prime Video.
Now, see, that game feels so important for Seattle.
Like, so important.
The Ram game, if you watched it, was a little like the giant game.
Like, the Rams were the better team for the entire game,
and the Giants were the better team for the entire game.
And it's interesting.
We forget this.
You know, you look at the top of the league where teams like Kansas City and Pittsburgh,
feel good every week, and then you go to the bottom with the Jags and the Jets and their band.
But, you know, you just remember, the teams change in the middle of a season.
All the time, there's injury.
I mean, yesterday, Miami, the Dolphins didn't even have certain coaches that could be on the sideline.
They had, like, grad assistants like in college.
Like, you know, they're taking people.
And I want to bring in Trent Dilfer, a football coach at Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee.
They won because of a forfeit, so they've advanced to the semifinals in his state.
he's turned that program around.
I've got a Super Bowl, a Pro Bowl, 15 years in the NFL.
Trent's now joining me live.
And it's funny because, you know, we tend to watch the good teams or the bad teams and
like, this is what you are.
But the Giants are a prime example.
Like, take out September.
You played on a team, which I covered in Tampa, which was awful in September.
And then you had Tony Dungey, and I want you to go back and tell the audience that you see your,
do you see the bucks in this Giants team?
I do. I see the 97 bucks in the Shions team. We'd come off two terrible seasons. Sam Weish gets fired.
Tony Dungey comes in, resets the culture. We still stink. We're one in seven, I believe.
But in the midst of October, early November, the themes, the energy started to change.
You started seeing the Warren of Saps, the Derrick Brooks and the Rondea Barbers, the John Lynch's work done.
Mike Allstate started to feel it a little bit and become dominant players.
The culture was set.
We were very well coached, very well organized, played situational football well.
And the next year you know, we won a bunch of games at the end.
I'm sorry, this is 96, win a bunch of games at the end of 96, and then kickstart 97, which is a season where we went to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, ended up winning a playoff game.
And then that group ends up going to the Super Bowl in 2001.
So the Giants this year kind of looked like those 96, excuse me, I said that wrong up at the third.
top the 96 Tampa Buccaneers, and we were just growing and learning how to play big-time football.
Yeah, Daniel Jones, by the way, it looks like it works to me, Trent.
Yeah, now he's way better than the quarterback was the Bucks in 96, too.
That was me.
He's a very talented kid.
I like that they've just allowed him to play.
They haven't overreacted with the turnovers.
I do think they're addressing them.
He seems like he's playing cleaner.
Reminds me of Peyton Manning with the Colts in his first couple of years where he was a turnover
machine, but they didn't sequester them. They didn't tell them, oh, you can never make a
mistake. Instead, they said, hey, let's go play football and learn from our mistakes. So I think
Daniel Jones is doing a great job, adjusting, tweaking, evolving. He's a very talented player.
You told me a couple years ago, you said this to a kid, it's just different. He's the most
accurate thrower I've ever seen. It's going to work. And I liked him up until about two weeks
ago, and I said, okay, I can't, this is not going to work. And then I watched him, and I'll tell you
what, he throws one of the most accurate football. It doesn't matter if he's moving. Is this exactly
what you thought he would be in the NFL? It is. And I think you'll see more explosive stuff
coming down the road. I like how the dolphins are playing team football, three-phase football.
They're not asking the quarterback to do too much. He's played really well on critical downs.
We've seen some of his athleticism come out. But I really believe you're going to see a combination of an
Aaron Rogers Russell Wilson type player.
He has the precision, the Twitch that Aaron Rogers has.
He's got way more horsepower and athleticism
than the people gave him credit for coming out,
maybe because of the injury.
I think you said it perfectly.
He's just different.
I mean, I've worked with a lot of them.
I think people thought I was being biased
or speaking in hyperbole leading up to the draft.
He's a single best prospect I've ever been around.
And I've been doing this with young quarterbacks
and training him for a long time.
He's the single best one I've ever been around.
You know, I think we both admire Russell Wilson.
I think he's really special.
I have been critical of Pete Carroll.
I don't think they've evolved defensively.
I thought they gave away the farm on Jamal Adams.
They've been really hit and miss on their first second round picks the last several years.
I just think Russell, I think he has to save the team.
And I think that psychologically wears on you.
And you start pressing and pressing and pressing.
That's what I see with Seattle, a smart guy at quarterback who feels like,
there's one way to win this game today, and I'm going to take big chances.
That's what I see with Russell.
What do you see?
No doubt.
You've nailed it.
Any player, and I heard Michael Vick talk about it earlier, I think any quarterback,
we're usually alphas, we're usually the best basketball player, baseball player,
football player from a young age.
We've been able to carry our teams at different stages of our careers,
and you get in the NFL and your defense is struggling.
And next thing you know, you feel like you have to put it on your shoulders.
And I think Russell's the ultimate competitive.
and he's always looking for a way to win.
He knows he has to fill in the gaps.
I also think I agree with your criticisms of the defensive staff.
I don't want to put it all on Pete.
Sometimes the head coach takes a little too much heat there.
But there's schemes a little outdated.
You know, they jumped on the league with this three match.
They didn't bring a lot of pressure.
They trusted their front four.
People start stealing it.
Now you see three match all the way down to the lowest levels.
People are scheming against there are holes in it.
It's more familiar to,
coaches and players.
So I think they have to evolve.
I think every team has to evolve.
Every quarterback has to evolve.
Every coach has to evolve.
Every team has to evolve.
You can't just get stuck in your old ways.
I mean, Tampa 2 is one of the greatest quarter defenses of all time for a long time.
And now it's terrible.
I mean, there's a million holes in Tampa, too.
Nobody really runs it in critical downs anymore for that reason.
So it's just something that the Seahawks have to address.
It's more than just personal.
A lot of its are scheme as well.
All right.
I'm going to just throw a team at you.
I don't know quite what to make of them.
John Gruden is better than I thought and deserves credit.
What do I make of the Raiders?
They're brilliantly boring.
That's why nobody's talking about them.
It's like watching paint dry.
They play these big heavy formations.
They pound the rock.
Their play action game isn't real vertical all the time.
They'll take a shot here or there.
Derek Carr is highly efficient.
He's not flash and sizzle like these other quarterbacks we talk about.
Can't name really.
a lot of players on their defense that are difference makers,
yet they run and hit and knock the ball out.
John's a great coach.
Mike Mayock's done an incredible job finding fit guys for their team
to fit their culture,
fit their systems.
But again,
it's really hard to find like one thing and go,
oh, wow,
they're at the top league in this,
or they have this player that's as marque as anybody.
No,
they're just a bunch of blue-collar,
tough guys that go out there every week
and are getting better and better every week.
They're a team that would not,
not surprise me that we get in the playoffs and they have 39 carries for 218 in the first
round against the team. Everybody thinks going to beat them. You know, it's interesting. I watched
Drew Locke in that game and I don't know what the word is, but I'll just, I'll try. What Tua does,
Tua plays with what I call urgency. Every play he's totally dialed in. He's never loose.
Even when he's ad-libbing, he's not loose. When I watch Drew Locke, I see.
this with Baker Mayfield. There's a cavalier sort of, I'm going to let this thing go. And I watch
Drew Locke this weekend and I see it with Baker and I'm like, I don't know if you can change that.
Like I don't know if you can change reckless guy to cautious guy. And I don't know if you can change
sort of like thinks he's better than he is guy to what he really is guy. And you get into
this situation with Drew Locke. Like I moved off him this weekend. I'm like, this is the same thing over.
And I know that sounds ridiculous. But Trent, you've
done this for a living? Like
what can you change and
what can't you change from a
quarterback? It's
a really good question. Drew's
like a volume three point shooter.
A guy that's going to chuck up 13
a game and only remember the four
fadeaways that he made that made
Sport Center top 10.
Forget the other nine misses.
He's a guy that's always
trying to attack. He's a guy that's reckless
at times. It looks awesome
sometimes. It's highlight videos.
stuff, but more than not, it's reckless.
I think a lot of this is AAU basketball in his background.
He's always been free-flowing, always been highly aggressive.
Can you change it?
Yeah, I think you can change it over time.
You don't want to coach out the aggressive eyes, but you definitely want to coach in the
discernment.
Brett Farv is an example of a guy that had to happen to.
I think how you address every single day of his development is really important.
He has to be highly critical of himself.
As coaches have to be highly critical,
you have to create situations in practice
where you kind of bait the hook
and say, oh, are you going to be overly aggressive here?
Are you going to make a good decision?
There's a lot of things you have to address in practice
to coach us out of them.
I don't think it's going to happen this year,
but he needs to start trending,
much like Daniel Jones.
We were killing Daniel Jones
for being too hyper-aggressive,
and he's kind of settled into more of a discerning pattern.
Drew Locke needs the same.
kind of time. At the end of this year, he better making positive trends towards not being so
reckless. Finally, Kyler Murray, is Arizona a great team or a good team, or is Kyler just amazing?
Like, what are they? I think they're an okay team with just some absolute,
incredible difference makers. Kyler being one of them, Hopkins being another.
They got some guys on defense now that they lost one. It was banged up, Chandler Jones.
but they have superstar power that makes up for some of their gaps.
Kyler Murray's Magic we've talked about before in this show,
D'Andre Hopkins, not just the incredible catch yesterday on the Helmerie,
but just play in, play out.
They have great veteran leadership.
Larry Fitzgerald.
I really like how this coach has changed.
I mean, I did not think this was going to work if he kept his traditional air raid offense.
He hasn't.
It's way different.
He's added probably more pro-principals.
then he's carried over air raid principles,
multiple tight ends, power runs,
said who would have thought they'd lead the league in rushing?
A lot of that has to do with Kyler Murray and his threat.
Now go back to, I think it's 18th Oklahoma team,
that they led the nation yards per carry.
So it's kind of the Kyler Murray effect with yards per carry
because you're so concerned with him as a runner.
You leave gaps free for the dot back.
So there's a lot of cool things.
I think they're the best show on TV.
I can't keep my eyes off of them.
I watch 60 minutes of every one of their games because you never know what's going to happen.
Yeah, same.
Trent Dilfer, congrats to Lipscomb.
Semifinals next weekend.
Good seeing you, bud.
Thanks, brother.
All right.
Trent Dilfer, Lipscomb Academy, Nashville, Tennessee.
It's a big-time high school football program.
He decided about two years ago I'm going to change my life and change young people's life.
And I'm going to go coach high school football.
It's got a great high school football program in a beautiful Tennessee.
Yeah, Arizona, are they a great team or just a great television product?
I think they're a great television product.
It's a Trent.
They're a pretty good team.
But it is funny that Kyler is so dangerous that it actually, you don't have to draft first round running backs.
You're just, your running backs in Arizona are going to succeed largely on because the way you have to defend Kyler Murray.
You just made, you have to cheat on him, which is just going to open up running lanes.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Well, this is a big NBA week, and we are starting to get some NBA news in,
like the Sons are finalizing a deal to acquire Chris Paul from Oklahoma City.
The deal will reportedly send CP3 and Abdel Nader to Phoenix in exchange for Kelly Ubre,
Ricky Rubio, Ty Jerome, Jalen LeCoo, and a 2022 first round pick.
Well, Arizona wins the trade because they got the best player.
for now, yes.
The draft pick also could end up being a big deal for them.
But the thing is that Chris Paul has two years left on his contract at $85.5 million.
That's fine.
I'm fine with that.
So it's a good move for the Thunder because they want to rebuild and they're not being able to do that with that contract.
Also, Monty Williams has really turned this organization around.
It seems like they're finally investing in the team.
They just had the first phase of the renovation of the arena.
They're also opening a new practice facility.
They have Devin Booker and DeAndre A.
And adding Chris Paul is a really big move.
He's known for being a good mentor to young players.
Devin Booker is the star.
He's not going to come in and take over for Devin Booker's role there.
So I think it's a good situation for both teams.
Chris Paul moves a lot.
I'll say it again.
He wins everywhere.
He won in Oklahoma City last year.
He's old school.
He shoots a mid-range.
He yells at players.
He can be difficult with teammates.
He plays really good defense.
And he got a little bit of a break.
Now, instead of 82 NBA games, we're going to have 72.
He's a guy that wants to play.
You can play him 60 games of the 72.
You can give him some nights off.
That's a reasonable schedule.
Also, because of the COVID situation, and they got bounced early in the playoffs.
He's had a lot of rest in the last 18 months on his legs.
Yeah.
So he doesn't have that wear and tear.
we don't know what's going to happen this NBA season in terms of arenas and where they're going to play.
But to me, I'd swallow two years in a heartbeat if I'm Phoenix for this contract.
And I think they won – you know, this is the way it works.
If you get the Shaq or the Chris Paul or whoever gets the star wins the trade,
in the history of the NBA, when the Milwaukee Bucks lost Lue Al Cinder, then Lle Cinder,
they got really good players.
And the Bucks didn't win the trade, obviously going to the Lakers.
the Lakers won the trade.
But Milwaukee, actually, for about seven years, did really well.
They got a boatload of players.
But generally speaking, I get the star you don't.
I win.
Right.
And it just depends on the situation, obviously.
And the money makes a big difference as well.
He had to average 17.6 points and 6.7 assists,
taking the thunder to the playoffs,
and we thought that they were going to be tanking.
And he was also named second team, All-MBA last year.
And Phoenix had a nice finish to their season.
They went 8-0 in the bubble.
They missed the playoffs by the play-in tournaments.
and have what looks like a bright future.
So it looks like a good trade.
The bucks bounced back from their blowout loss of the Saints last week with a big win over the Panthers.
Brady threw for 341 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for a score.
Ronald Jones had a huge game, 192 rushing yards, including a 98-yard touchdown run.
And Tampa's defense held Panthers to six second half points on the way to their 46-23 win.
This really was the story of the second half in this game.
Yes.
And the other thing was,
The NFL, so I watched, if there's anything about the NFL, you have to admit that it's true.
You are never as good or as awful as you were the previous week.
Yeah.
So Tampa went the opposite way of the Saints game.
We're going to establish the run.
We're going to pound it.
We're going to throw higher percentage throw.
They did the opposite thing.
And then, by the way, the Saints struggled against the completely injury-riddled Niners team.
And Tampa, actually, Joy, gets a huge break with Bree.
out. Can James
beat the Falcons twice in the next
three weeks? Because if he can't,
Brady is back in control
of this division. That's really the story
of the weekend. It really is.
So the Saints are 7 and 2, Bucks are 7
and 3. Falkins 3 and 6, but
But. Atlanta's playing well. And the Panthers
are 3 and 7. So we
thought the Panthers said this would be an interesting game,
but obviously like the better team pulled away.
Teddy Bridger-Oter was also knocked out of the game
with the right knee injury right now. It says there's
structural damage from the MRI, but he's uncertain for this next game.
I saw that hit live.
It didn't look.
No, it didn't look bad, but the fact that he was out is really what it is.
But the buck's remaining schedule is the Rams and Chiefs, and they have a buy.
Then the Vikings, at the Falcons, at the Lions, and at the Falcons.
I've got to tell you something.
They'll lose to the Chiefs.
They'll beat the Rams.
What is the line?
Veteran Newsman John Goulet, Tampa Rams.
it is in Tampa, so Tampa's going to be favored by a field goal, I guess.
What's the line?
Three and a half.
I would take Tampa.
Jared Goff will not be comfortable.
Goulet, do you know what I am betting the Rams this year?
Six and one, I believe.
I am on, I have.
Rams games.
You actually usually go against the Rams.
No.
So this week, my theory on the Rams, Joy, is if Jared Goff is comfortable, they'll win.
So now he's missing his left tackle, facing a very aggressive defense.
that's my bet of the week.
The Rams will struggle at Tampa,
but Tampa will lose the following week
to the Chiefs.
To the Chiefs.
They will.
They're not as good a team.
So that means they need
Atlanta to beat the Saints twice
over the next three weeks.
I don't think that's going to happen.
I will see.
So Nick Chob returned from a knee injury
that kept him out for the last four games
and led the rushing attack that got the Browns
the riveting 10-7 win over the top.
Texans. He had 19 carries for 126 yards and a touchdown. But the story is he could have had a
second score when he broke loose down the sideline with less than a minute remaining.
Brutal. And he stepped out of bounds to be able to run out the clock, which was great for the
Browns, but not so great for anybody who bet on the Browns. So my buddy, who I watched games with
on Sunday, he had the Browns. He, but he's a good sport. He started howling laughing because I
didn't bet the Browns this week. He was, and I'm like, what are you laughing at? He's like,
I just lost a bet on Nick Chubb stepping out of Brown. Oh, yeah. And by the way, a lot of people
lost that bet. Because Cleveland was the side yesterday. The bets were the bigger story. Obviously,
fantasy players are not very happy either if they started him. But you know what? I love players that do
this. I love players that do this. It's like, it's a team thing. Yeah. Let's just not give the
ball back. It's like, I love that. We all just watch.
Watched Kyler Murray win on Hail Mary.
You can't leave any time on the clock.
You want no time on the clock if you have any kind of dynamic playmaker on the other side of the ball.
And obviously the Texans are not great, but they still have to Sean Watson.
So why risk it?
I love this play from a from a team standpoint, from a Brown standpoint.
It was the right thing for him to do.
It's just a really, it's a bad beat.
What are you going to do?
Yep.
It happens.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd lie news.

To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but yeah, yeah, literally.
But just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS.
on the table right now.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year

For me, it's one of the most important years for black people
in American history.

You know, it's funny about, just think about,
we say this all the time
that when you come to the NFL as a really good
quarterback, you usually go to a poor team.
And so I remember
saying after the draft, I said
Justin Herbert is probably going to
have the best numbers because he has really good players.
If he plays as a rookie, the
Chargers have all sorts of talent.
Whereas Joe Burrow could be better potentially,
but he's not going to win any games.
He's going to get crushed.
And with Tua, you know, our takeaway was,
let's wait on his hip.
But they're not asking Tua to do much.
Here's a prime example.
He had 160 passing yards yesterday.
He was 5 for 14 on 3rd down.
He completed 15 passes.
And he didn't ask him to do much.
A prime example of the life of Tua and Joe Burrell.
The first special teams play of the game for the Bengals, they fumbled a punt.
The first special teams played for the dolphins, they blocked a punt.
And the next play, he hands off touchdown, Tua never played trailing yesterday.
Burrow trailed the whole game, Tua never trailing.
Two and never trailed against the Rams because of a defensive touchdown and a special team's touchdown.
And he rarely briefly trailed late in the game against Arizona.
So Tua's playing with a lead.
He doesn't have to take big risks.
He's not going to get big stats.
But that's his NFL life.
It is a protected, safe environment.
He trusts the coaches.
He's getting like a touchdown in game from non-offense.
That is a really nice life.
you can go into a game knowing, I don't have to take big risks here.
I don't have to make big.
Burrow against the Steelers, he's got to take huge over-the-top risks.
He's got to hold the ball longer.
But it was just classic yesterday.
The first special teams play Burrow had, they fumbled a punt.
Tua's first special teams plays blocked a punt.
And that's the difference with these teams.
Tua talked afterwards.
It's not going to be a big stat year for Tua.
I think it's fun winning in general, whether we do good offensively,
or the defense does us good and, you know, special teams does good.
Just being able to come out with the win, you know,
we've had a lot of opportunities that the defense has given us as well.
And, you know, I think the special teams did a really great job as well, too.
So it was a great team effort.
If you gave, for instance, if you gave Russell Wilson of Seattle this defense,
asked him to only throw 25 times a game,
he always played with the lead and they had excellent special teams.
Russell Wilson would throw no interceptions.
He would be unbelievable.
I mean, he didn't throw many early in his career.
But now the opposite is happening in Seattle.
Russell's trailing all the time.
Russell is usually hurried.
He's getting no help from his defense.
So now Russell Wilson looks like a bad football player.
Well, we know Russell Wilson today is better than Tua.
Nobody would argue that.
He's a much better player than Tua.
It's not even close right now.
But because of Tua's environment in his life,
which is play with a lead, don't have to take any big risks.
You look at two of his stats.
He's not doing anything.
But he's making three or four really nice throws.
He's very twitchy upstairs.
He makes really smart, quick decisions.
But Michael Vic was on earlier today, and he was talking about Russell Wilson.
And there's a psychology, in effect.
When you know, you're just going to make more mistakes in life.
If you know you have to carry a family, carry a business, carry a sales team, carry a team.
And Vic talked about Russell Wilson's going through.
right now. He's making mistakes because he knows he has to take so many over-the-top
wrists. You feel like you've got to do everything. You feel like the onus is on you.
To pass it, to run it, to direct the offense, to lead touchdown drives. You almost feel like
you've got to make up for what the defense is not going to do. And that season, I could vividly
remember being three and one, getting off to a good start. I was cooking. I was playing well.
But I just felt like I had to do everything.
I had to be perfect.
And I know Russ is feeling that.
It's a natural thing as a quarterback when your defense is not playing as well.
And when you're getting knocked around and getting hit, you start trying to do too much.
Yeah.
The other thing I really thought about Joy this weekend, it really jumped out to me, is that Kansas City's excellent.
Pittsburgh's really good, but can't generally put away semi-good teams.
there is a big gap after that.
Like it feels like to me there is a we,
and for the record,
we were doing our top 10.
Like, I don't think the Colts are a top 10 team,
but they're going to win a division.
I don't think the Titans are a top 10 team,
but they're going to make the playoffs.
Are the Raiders this morning a top 10 team?
Well, they're close.
Like, I don't remember ever having a year.
Like, if Green,
Bay is the third best team in this league after the Steelers in Kansas City. They can't stop
to run. They're not good in physical games. I'm not sure Green Bay is as good as Minnesota
who will beat the Bears tonight. I think Minnesota's got more good players than Green Bay.
And I could argue Mike Zimmer is as good a coach or a better coach than Matt LaFleur.
So it's like who's good. Like everybody's flawed, except Kansas City. Kansas City is the rare
owner GM coach quarterback A plus.
And then Pittsburgh is closer to A minus, you know, in a couple of those.
I think the only difference between Pittsburgh and Kansas City at this point is we've seen this version of Kansas City win a Super Bowl.
And we haven't seen this version of the Steelers win a Super Bowl.
I don't trust.
But the two of them are so separate from every other team in the NFL at this point to me.
I mean, they're 9-0.
And the Chiefs have won a Super Bowl with this same group.
Yeah, I don't disagree.
I do think it's interesting, though, that there's a bunch of young coaches in the NFL.
Just think about who's going to dominate sports over the next six months.
68-year-old Nick Saban or 67-year-old Nick Saban.
I'm sorry, but that's the best college football team I've seen.
Better than Clemson.
So Alabama's going to win again.
LeBron just got Dennis Schrooter at Point Guard.
So I got news for you.
LeBron's got a better team than last year, more athletic.
Big Ben is going to be a Tuesday.
seed. Andy Reed, 60
whatever, is going to be a number one seed.
Drew Brees, if
he can come back in two weeks, they
beat Atlanta, will probably be a
one seed. And Brady will get
into the playoffs. I know everybody likes the new
stuff, but if you look around what we're
going to see over the next several months, it's going to
be a lot of people we've
seen before winning in football, basketball,
college football. It's going to be a lot of
veteran names. We want to bury
all these teams, but I'm looking around college football
and I'm looking around the NFL. It
There's a lot of familiar faces winning again.
Well, I think what you're seeing is the old guys are becoming better at adapting and staying current and going with the flow and allowing new things to come into their game.
The idea of being rigid and doing the same thing that you've been doing for the last 20 years.
It doesn't work.
Doesn't work.
And they are seeing that and getting ahead of it.
That's really what it is.
I mean, if you go, I think it's really remarkable.
One of the stories, nobody wants to talk about GMs, right?
Like, nobody cares.
Steve Kime, for the Arizona Cardinals, in back-to-back years, admitted I drafted the wrong quarterback
and I hired the wrong football coach.
And he moved off both of them in one year.
I don't think that's ever happened in league history.
You'd have to go look it up.
We notice.
It's not like we weren't critical and skeptical.
No, we ripped them.
It's like it is unheard of that a general manager would just own it.
Like, I whiffed on the coach and I whiffed on the quarterback, and he moved off both in one year.
Like, that is why he's going to keep his job.
Like, that is rare.
Just own it, man.
Listen, hiring a coach, it's just a coin flip.
Who knew Tom Coughlin was going to be that good?
Or Joe Judge.
You never even saw him on the sidelines of Patriot games.
Michelin, Endurance, X-D, Sodecone, Wiper Blades.
They last two times longer.
Get them at Walmart.
Peter Schrager next.
