This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

The 3 and Out podcast is presented by Fandual Sportsbook.
There is no better place to bet every moment more than with Fanduel.
With football ending, we have the NBA rolling, March madness right around the corner,
and my personal favorite betting on the PGA tour.
I cannot recommend it enough.
winnings fast and winnings are also delivered in under two hours.
It's a fun to combine multiple bets from the same game parlay.
No big deal. NBA, Steph Curry, Clay Thompson.
That would be what I would do.

What is going on, everybody, John Middlecop?
Three and out podcast.
And we are officially embarking and
heading into a little thing we like to call NFL free agency.
We had breaking news Sunday night, which obviously we're going to talk about.
This guy, he goes by the name of Tom Brady, has returned to the National Football League.
Pretty big news.
Last, I think we had heard from him, he was retiring.
Now he's back to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
So I think we can end the 49er rumblings.
So obviously some thoughts on Tom, some of the implications on Tom Brady coming back to Tampa.
I mean, he's the biggest superstar we have in America right now, the short list, right?
I mean, Tiger Woods doesn't play golf anymore.
To me, LeBron James, he's famous, but I don't think the interest in LeBron James is nearly what it once was.
You know, Steph Curry, there's not a baseball player.
To me, Tom Brady's the biggest superstar we have.
on a relevant team
I mean the Lakers are more relevant
in terms of bigger brand than Tampa
but you know what I mean
his team wins
like Lakers
I don't know if you've watched
they suck
and by the way
the Laker show
I think it's called like winning time
about the Magic Johnson
Jerry West
Pat Riley
Dr. Bus
is a little over the top
I mean I think it's
and listen I'm a sucker for
over the top
just BS but it's
it's pretty ridiculous.
Now, I'm going to watch it.
It's entertaining, but I thought it was really, really over the top.
But this is a football show.
And obviously Tom Brady returned, so we'll dive into that.
Amari Cooper traded.
Kirk Cousins gets broken off again.
Cousins keeps getting paid.
Everyone's like, how does Cousins keep getting paid?
I don't know.
You know, 124 touchdowns, 36 picks in the last four years.
It's almost like a three and a half to one ratio.
So I'll give a couple quick thoughts there.
Three and Out podcast.
Subscribe.
If you listen through Collins' feed, subscribe to this feed.
Greatly appreciate it.
If you could, leave a review.
Apple iTunes helps with a selling for those of you that listen on Spotify.
Appreciate you guys too.
I think there's a Spotify review spot,
even though, you know, relative to the metrics, you have a small percentage.
But listen, most people listen on Apple iTunes.
I appreciate everyone that listens, share it with your friends.
Okay, let's dive into Tom Brady.
And I don't think this is really that complicated.
I don't think he ever wanted to retire.
I think he was getting pressured from.
from his wife to stop playing.
And I think he capitulated for a minute.
And then I think he realized like,
Giselle, I am still too good at football.
There's a reason most people tell you
when you're young to chase your dreams,
follow your dreams,
do something you love.
Why?
Because it makes life a lot easier.
When you hate your job, life sucks.
Why?
You spend a lot of time working.
I never understand these people that are in miserable marriages.
It's like, you know, guys, there's a thing called divorce.
You can break up.
If you're going to spend time with someone, either personally or professionally, you should enjoy it.
Now, I've said over and over.
I get to talk about sports for a living.
I still have my beasts.
I still get angry at things.
You know, we're all humans.
But when you like what you do, it is much easier to do it.
Why?
Because you spend a lot of things.
time working. When you're married to someone that you love and you feel deeply for, it's easier
to spend a lot of time with that person. We've all known a lot of people in a lot of relationships.
They're not feeling it and they try to avoid each other at all costs. It's a miserable way
to live. I never understand it. And sometimes professionally, when you're able to do what you love
to do and are passionate about doing, then if you become really, really good at it, it's a double
Whammy, right? Because in certain businesses, when you follow what you like to do, that means
you're going to like spending more time doing it, that if you get really good at it in certain
industries, you get compensated at a high level. Tom Brady is arguably the second best quarterback
in the NFL. If it wasn't for Aaron Rogers last year, he would have won the most valuable
player award. You quit certain jobs because you hate them, right? That's usually the reason people
quit jobs, or you have a better opportunity. In pro sports,
the reason people usually quit
is because in the NFL you keep getting cut
and you can't play anymore.
They also guys retire
because they're shot.
Look at some of Tom's contemporaries.
Do you think any of them would have walked away
if they were still playing like Tom is?
Now obviously somehow Tom's doing this at 44 and 45 years old,
it's pretty nuts.
But however he's pulled this off,
avocado ice cream,
pliability, drinking water, stretching,
Alex Guerrero,
TB 12, it's worked.
And it's worked really well.
The reason Peyton Manning quit football
wasn't because he wanted to do some simulcast on ESPN.
Wasn't because he just wanted to BS with his buddies and play golf.
It's because he couldn't throw.
You think Raffaesberger wanted to stop playing football
for the Pittsburgh Steelers?
No, he's cooked.
The reason Drew Brees retired,
he wasn't any good anymore.
He couldn't throw the ball 10 yards down the field.
It was over.
Those guys are legends.
Peyton Manning's one of the greatest Hall of Famers ever.
Just went in.
Drew Brees, first ballot Hall of Famer.
Rothersberger.
99% chance.
First ballot Hall of Famer.
These guys, Eli, not as good as those guys regular season-wise while he's accomplished a lot in them.
He had to quit.
He was awful.
It was over.
No one wants to just retire when you can still play at a high level.
Why?
Because it's fun.
You get to play football.
It's enjoyable.
And when you're still really.
good. You get paid a lot of money. You get to dominate. It's a public job. And it's sweet. Winning is
fun. Do you notice how awesome every video ever? If you're listening to this, you never made it past
high school football. How fun were locker rooms when you won? If you're listening to this, you played
Division I college, Division II. Locker, the best part about a football week is celebrating after a win.
We've all seen the videos in the NFL. It doesn't get any better. I was lucky enough just to work in
the building and know how much stress and time goes in all week. So you get to the game.
If you're really good and you're winning games, you don't want to stop that. I always love like,
when is Andy Reid going to quit? When is Bill Belichick going to quit? These guys are addicted to
football and they're so good at their job. What else would they do? Listen, I say this all the time.
The word retirement gives me anxiety. Someone DM me today about like their investing philosophy.
They're like, John, you know, don't play the gross stocks. You only do that with 10% of your money.
ETSs like, bro, I'm in ATFs.
I'm not investing for fucking retirement.
Now, again, I'm lucky enough to do something.
I don't plan on retiring.
I play golf twice a week right now.
What am I going to do?
Play more golf?
I just want to do what I like to do
and just do it until I'm not able to do it anymore.
I've never, I've never, you know, related to people that, like, live for the weekend.
I enjoy Tuesday.
I like, I like working.
I like Saturday, too.
But Tom Brady is not like, football is a huge part of his life.
he enjoys building his life around football.
You can be a good dad and play football.
You can be around your family and play football.
You also don't get that many opportunities
to be elite at your job
when there's legitimately a finite end to it.
If you watch the Carl Icon documentary,
he's still investing.
He'll do it till the day he dies.
Warren Buffett, he's going to invest
until the day he dies.
They enjoy doing that.
Certain jobs get easier as you get older.
A lot of these jobs,
your real estate, investing,
whatever, you can do forever as a player.
Like, eventually this is going to run out on Tom.
And he'll be Rothersberger or Peyton.
Like if he just played till he couldn't play anymore.
It might happen at 48 or 50, but it will happen.
But it's not happening now.
We just watched him play at such a high level and it was awesome to watch.
And clearly, I think his family, but I don't think his kids, if I was this 12 year old
kid, I'd want him to keep playing.
I want my dad to keep, I want to go to NFL games.
It's his wife.
She wants him to stop.
And he gave it.
and then he realized like, no, what are we doing?
The game's never been safer.
They literally can't touch me.
And when they could, they changed the rule so they couldn't hit my leg anymore.
And I'm throwing 35 to 40 to 45 touchdowns with my eyes closed right now.
I got Mike Evans.
We just franchise Godwin.
Like, what's going to change?
You know, we can keep dominating.
Look at my division.
The one guy that could beat me in the division, retired.
Now I got to go against Dennis Allen.
Like, I watched Dennis Allen with the Raiders.
Tom's going to be okay.
Matt Rule's got no clue what he's doing
and the Atlanta Falcons just don't have a good roster
so it's never been easier to make the playoffs
right? I mean his division stinks
they're a lock
they just hosted two playoff games last year
so I just think Tom
never wanted to do this in the first place
was pressured by his wife
and a couple months later he clearly talks his way out of it
and however he pulled that off
and again he doesn't have to do OTAs or whatever
it's just a season
And as long as you're still playing this well,
like Elway didn't quit because Elway was on top.
His game was trending in the wrong direction.
Marino was shot.
Like it was over.
Aikman, over.
Steve Young, K-O'd.
Most people in the peak of their powers
don't pull it Jim Brown and Barry Sanders.
Like not all retirements are equal.
This retirement was weird
because of how good he still was.
And I'm glad he's back
because I think the league really benefits.
Again, he's their biggest.
star. He's one of the most famous people
in this country. I don't know how famous he is worldwide
like some of these NBA stars
or Tiger Woods or some of these racing
guys. But Tom Brady domestically, it
doesn't get any bigger. He's literally at
the peak of his powers, right? He's
never been more famous and he's
probably been better as a player
but he's still damn good.
It makes sense.
You know, I want to consume you. He wants to
keep playing football. We're all going to watch.
The NFL really benefited today.
I think everyone's standing ovation. Welcome
back. Now, I think if you're in the NFL or you're a fan of some of the teams that don't like Tom,
maybe you're tired of him. But I'm not. I'm glad he's returned. Because you just, you know,
unless you're John Rom, you're just not going to be playing golf every day. Try it. And he's
not any good. So it's like you work out, what I'm working out for? I want to get ready for games.
Because the games are the easy part. He knows that's where he can dominate. He just did.
And I think Tampa got really lucky today. And it's a good. And it's a good.
good example, things are out of your control.
Like Tampa was screwed.
What were they going to do?
What were their options?
They have a pick in the mid-20s.
So it's like, who are they trading for?
They wouldn't have got Deshawn Watson.
There are too many teams that would have had better offers.
And I know he has a no trade clause, but, okay, if I was a Texans, I'm not trading
to the Tampa.
I would have said, no, we're not doing that.
Like, ultimately, Texans can say no to.
Where are they going to get a quarterback?
Now, I don't think Bruce Arons necessarily meant it.
I think he was just trying to keep the spirits high.
Kind of like once upon a time when Dick Vermeal said,
Kurt Warner's our starting quarterback and we will win football games with Kurt Warner.
Now, ultimately, Kurt Warner became a Hall of Famer.
But when Dick Vermeal said that,
I don't think he actually believed that they were going to keep winning football games.
Like, ultimately Bruce Ariens saying that Blaine Gabbard's going to be our starting quarterback
is part of being a leader is you got to be positive, right?
You can't always be negative.
Hell, if you're a dad listening to this, you got a couple kids,
walk into the house every single day being negative. Your negative energy will permeate throughout
the house and then everyone will be negative. You kind of got to fake it sometimes. You have a bad
day at work, come home, smile. You're the CEO of a company and things aren't going well. You
still got to put on a good face. So I think Bruce was trying to be positive. They know.
Like Blaine Gabbers are quarterback. They're not going to the playoffs. They would have been screwed.
I don't care how good their coaching staff is fantastic. I don't care how many of these free agents
they would have brought back. But Tom Brady, they, you know, I'm sure if you're listening to this by the time,
you've seen this stat or someone's forwarded to you on a text message,
they went from being a middle of the road team in the NFC
to now being the NFC favorites.
That includes the Rams.
That includes the Packers.
Now, I think they differ from the Rams a little bit
because the Rams will see who Seattle's quarterback ends up being,
but the Niners are good and Arizona while flawed are good.
Like, that division is tough.
What Tom Brady and Aaron Rogers have to deal with,
their divisions are a joke.
Now, you know, depends on some of these new coaches.
Kevin O'Connell, Dennis Allen, but the other six teams in those divisions, the bears, the lions,
who am I missing?
Minnesota actually might not be bad, but they have a brand new coach.
The Saints with Dennis Allen.
Panthers stink.
I mean, the Panthers are drafting six overall.
And the Falcons, while they went 7 and 10, they're probably the weirdest 7 and 10 team I've ever seen.
Because I've seen them multiple times last season get absolutely destroyed.
They don't have that much talent.
So both those two teams, like, you're going to cruise to the playoffs.
The NFL is not a cruise to the playoffs sport, right?
You'd go, okay, the AFC North.
Is Joe Burrow just going to cruise back to the playoffs?
Is Lamar just going to cruise back to the playoffs?
The Browns now get a Mario.
Are they just going to cruise?
The Steelers, who their quarterback is going to be very, very difficult.
Like, it's going to be hard for the 9-10.
is just to win 10, 11 games again.
It's just going to be difficult.
Where you go to Tampa and Green Bay,
I feel like I'd put $5,000 right now,
both those two teams are in the playoffs.
I'd feel fantastic about my wager.
And you can't say that most of the time.
I can't say for certain the Patriots are back to the playoffs.
They should be a playoff team,
but I wouldn't do the same wager.
I wouldn't even blink with those two teams.
So there's a reason that Rogers ultimately went back to the Packers.
One, he's the starting quarterback
of the Packers making $50 million.
They're one of the biggest brands in America.
Two, it's easy to keep kicking everyone's ass.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that

Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,

To be clear, 84 was big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack,
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so.
Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
People. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.

Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth.

Absolutely.

Part of the reason Tom's coming back is, one, he can still play well in his team, the path.
Sean Payton is, who knows where, he might be in Cancun right now.
He's going to be calling games next year, not coaching games.
He gets to play Dennis Allen.
And I know Dennis Allen gave him fits his defensive coordinator.
now he's the head coach.
And I'm telling you, the big winner, NFL Fox should be throwing a celebration today.
Bruce Ariens and Jason Light, man, this had to be the best call.
Now, maybe they've gotten word of this the last week or two, but this had to feel really good.
And I think the teams that don't feel great today is like the Rams and the Packers.
And I'd throw the Niners in there, but they still, we'll got to see how good Trey Lance is.
But now the NFC is still very, very top heavy.
Tampa, Green Bay, the Rams, Niners, Arizona.
We'll see what Philly does with their picks.
As long as Jalen hurts your quarterback,
I don't care how good your roster is.
I know Kelsey announced over a beer on social media.
It was a great post drinking out of a keg that he's returning.
But is Jalen Hurts your quarterback, you're not winning a playoff game.
Jailen Hurts is not winning a playoff.
You can get back.
You know, the Cowboys have issues.
That division has issues.
Carson Wentz with Washington.
I don't see any of those teams winning a playoff game.
Now, if the Eagles got a real quarterback, then they'd be, you tell me they got Deshawn Watson?
Now I'll change my tune.
But yeah, Tom just, you know, he's too good.
He's too good.
Why would he walk away?

Really quick on Amari, traded from the Cowboys to the Browns.
I think it showed you pretty simple.
One, it's loaded wide receiver class in the draft.
Like, I can get a wide receiver in the second round and pay them $2 million.
$1, $20 million.
There weren't that many teams willing to pay him $20 million next season.
Ultimately, it cost the Browns a fifth round pick, which let's be honest, isn't anything.
If I'm trading a fifth round pick for you as a player, it's nothing.
But the reason it was so low was because of his contract.
And the Browns are willing to just take him, whether it's one year, because ultimately
if Amari Cooper was cut, one, they might not be able to sign him.
and if they did, it would cost more than $20 million.
So can you just basically throw away a fifth round pick
to get Amari Cooper when you're just willing to pay him the one year
and then just take it from there?
You know, the Cowboys need the space
because they sign Zeke Elliott.
And when Zeke's contract is still on the books,
like it's hard to shake that.
If they could do that one over,
they would like a do over.
But the reason he was traded for so little
is because the position he plays
and his value, he's a $14, $15 million.
but still good.
Like, I would take a Mario on my team,
but not at that number.
Like, Khalil Mack,
the reason he was traded for a second round pick?
Because a lot of teams would have traded high picks for him,
even with his $17 million salary next year.
And even the risk coming off an injury.
He's a pass rusher.
Where do I find pass rushers who were that good?
Right?
Clearly other teams in the later,
like the playoff level teams
would have traded,
you don't think the chiefs would have figured that out?
It'd be like, cap space.
Cut people.
Cap space is,
cap space means nothing right now.
It is a completely fake,
number. What they say in Donny Brasco, it's a Fugazi? It's just fake. It doesn't mean anything.
If I want to change it, I can change it the snap of my fingers. So all these teams that made the
playoffs, the Chiefs, the Niners, they would have been sniffing around on Khalil Mack. But the
Chargers, because they missed, like I said, last week, great move. The other thing that, you know,
Kirk Cousins, he gets extended. Everyone, listen, I don't think Kirk Cousins is Josh
talent here. Lamar Jackson, Justin Herbert. I would not want Kirk Cousins to be the quarterback of my team.
But when Kirk Cousins is the quarterback of your team and you're not drafting like in the top five to get
another quarterback, obviously this is not a quarterback draft, but just ever. Because when Kirk Cousins is the
quarterback of your team, if your defense is a joke as the Vikings were this year, they still went
seven and ten. And they were right in the mix. Maybe they went eight and nine. Right in the mix to make the
playoffs till like the last week of the season or second to last week of the season.
Kirk Cousins has talked about on social media.
I saw someone write like the all-time guys that stole money from the NFL.
It was like Sam Bradford, Chase Daniel, Tassam Hill, Kirk Cousins.
Do you guys know that Kirk Cousins since he's been in Minnesota four years?
He obviously played for Washington for several years before that.
Just the four years he's been in Minnesota, he's thrown more touchdowns in Sam Bradford's
career, you can include Chase Daniels 8 as well as Taysam Hills couple touchdowns.
Kirk Cousins is a productive player, a hundred and twenty-four touchdown since he's been there.
You could do a lot worse.
And part of the reason, what else can you do if you're Minnesota?
You are stuck with Kirk Cousins.
And he's not the least of your worries right now, right?
You need to fix the defense.
If Kirk Cousins is your starting quarterback on offense, you've proven you can go to the
playoffs.
saw it a couple years ago.
You beat the Saints.
I watched it.
You beat the Saints.
And then you played the Niners.
Your team just wasn't good enough.
But he's good enough to be your starting quarterback
and get you to the playoffs,
especially in this NFC.
Has he made $180 million?
Does it sound crazy when I say it out loud?
Yes.
But not all contracts are equal.
Russell Westbrook this year, legally stealing.
If Russell Westbrook, you said,
what's he worth?
He's worth like $3 million.
He's making $44 million.
at $30, $35 million for Kirk Cousins,
if you're going to throw me 33 to 35 touchdowns a year,
like that's good value.
Not all contracts are bad money.
Like, ultimately I don't love Dac Prescott at 40,
but like if you were paying him 32, I wouldn't hate it.
Now, I know Cousins is making 40 this year
and obviously money changes.
But I think he's talked about like he's some bottom five quarterback.
No, he's just not a top 10 quarterback.
He's somewhere between 10 and 15.
And if you do a good enough job building your team,
you can make the playoffs with them.
You could do a lot worse.
And you literally can't replace it.
Like, what is Indy going to do?
Jimmy Garoppolo?
Jimmy Garoppel has a bad shoulder.
What are the Steelers going to do?
Like, what the fuck are the New York Giants going to do?
Once Daniel Jones proves to everyone, he still stinks.
Like, you don't have any options.
Because, do you know how hard it was?
Do you know their only reason the Niners were able to get to three?
One, they had a disastrous year.
They went six and ten.
And then they traded three first.
round picks to go from 12 to 3. That's what it took. They didn't get to 1 or 2. They got to 3.
So when you got Kirk Cousins, like, you're just kind of stuck. And being stuck with
Kirk Cousins, it could be way, way worse. He's very, very productive. In an offense,
this guy's going to run, it's going to be a pretty seamless transition. Now, is Kevin O'Connell
a good coach? I don't know. No clue. You know, I've followed his career as a player at
San Diego State and then when he got drafted, but I have no clue. I know McVeigh likes him and he's clearly a
smart, high-level guy.
But being a head coach in the NFL,
we know how hard that is.
But man, I see all these people act like
Cousins should be like a $5 million player.
Like Sam Bradford.
Cousins has thrown more touchdowns in four years in Minnesota.
And remember, he played five in Washington,
four years of Minnesota.
Sam Bradford did in his entire career.
20 more touchdowns.
See, Kirk Cousins, Sam Bradford
couldn't hold Kirk Cousins jock.
You'd be like, went healthy.
Well, yeah, he's always hurt.
Part of always being hurt, like,
Genevion Cloudy, who's always injured.
means he's kind of worthless.
Part of being a productive player
is being on the field and producing.
That's part of the deal.
You got to play.
They play these things called football games.
They happen every Sunday.
Some happen Thursday.
Some happen Monday.
And they don't happen very often.
Once a week.
And I need you on the field to be worth the money.
If you're going to play half the games,
like, whatever your salary I'm paying you,
you're stealing from me.
And you're not worth it.
I don't care how productive is you are
in the games you're playing.
if you're not available.
Availability, pretty big deal, right?
Didn't Herm Edwards once say the best ability is availability?
I don't think he was lying.
So the Kirk Cousin slander, again, you act like I'm, you know, diehard Kirk Cousins guy.
I'm not.
But I also think the reaction to how shitty he is is just a little off base.

I'm recording this Sunday night.
We've got a big players championship.
I'm going to get up bright and early.
Shane Lowry's my only ticket really left.
John Rom's been terrible.
If Shane Lowry wins,
you know, I just win $2,200, no big deal on a $50 bet.
So let's root for Shane Lowry.
And let's get ready for free agency, baby.
It's going to, I mean, the free agency list kind of sucks.
But the quarterback movement,
there'll be some interesting thing happens, some trades.
And I'll see you guys, see you guys Tuesday.

Quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends, me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to

I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
