What are your thoughts on Art Bryles getting another shot at college football?

Also, what are your thoughts on Eric Bian and me? signing with the Chiefs. I figured they'd go with Nagy. Arbrials, I think his son's really good. The O.C. at Arkansas, I think he's worked for Lane, too, at FIU. I had always heard that Arbrials was a scumbag from my people that are in the Big 12th. And that had nothing to do with the, this was separate from the situation

that happened to him at Baylor, which I'll be honest. I'm not educated on. I didn't really follow that story. He clearly got kind of booted out of the club. And if I remember, I mean, remember, I just saw the headline. Did Arbrile sign with like grambling? Who even signed them?

Arbrile's Grambling State. Yeah. So, you know, it took a pretty small school to give him a shot. Yeah, I don't really have any thoughts on that. He's a good offensive coordinator.

And anytime you're a good offensive coordinator, you know, you just get, anytime you're good at anything, you get more shots than you probably should. But I'm not a big Arbrials guy. Eric Vianami, honestly, and I've said it over and over, I didn't have any inside information. I assumed he was going to get fired or not renewed. The article in the Casey Star about him and the homes,

maybe that was wrong. I don't know. But he's back. Try to watch Ozark and Yellowstone. Watch them both. Also, with the hiring of Flores, does the move, does this move the needle at all for Pitt going after Watson? And would trading for him before he's cleared take away less than waiting for him, see what happens?

You know what's weird about the Watson and Flores story? Is there have been elements to it that claim that Stephen Ross was pushing for Deshawn Watson? That Brian Flores didn't necessarily care. And it's hard, I don't know what to believe. I would, I think that is a believable story. But if part of it was Deshawn Watson wanted to play for Brian Flores, I don't think this would hurt. If you wanted to play for Brian Flores,

well, wouldn't you want to play for Mike Tomlin too? Now, how many first round picks would they give? I think the Steelers would love to have them. Would they trade them inside the AFC? I don't know. Two questions from Archie. not Archie Manning. I wish it was Archie Manning.

Because I'd DM them, see if you want to come on the show. What is Mac Jones actual ceiling and can it be better this off season? Two, is there a chance the NFL expands to Mexico in the near future? Big fan base and also is close to most NFL markets. You know, I'm not privy to the, I don't know anyone in the league office. So I don't quite know their desires when it comes to a. expansion outside the country. I don't think it's necessary,

but I've heard rumblings and read things over the years that have said Mexico City very much intrigues them. Now, they're not going to expand the NFL. Because if you're an owner, why would you want to split revenues with other teams, with teams that don't exist? Right, right now I get $350 million or whatever from the television revenue.

Why would I want to cut that by another two teams? Now, I know they have to give a huge expansion fee because you would split the 4 or 5 billion each to create a team out of thin air. But I think big picture, now, if you're an old owner, why would you care? But I'd be shocked if they add teams. I don't expect that.

I just think Mack Jones's ceiling is like is like Kirk Cousins meets Nick Foles. Something like that. You know, he's not a great athlete. He's actually a better athlete. than you think. He doesn't have a great arm. He's just not a very dynamic player.

He's just not a very dynamic player. But I'll give Kirk Cousins credit. Kirk Cousins got a lot better in his NFL career. Now, Mac Jones was pretty good in college. Like, Mac Jones was better at 22, 23 years old than Kurt Cousins was. So, Kirk Cousins, like, really the last three or four years has been the same. He just played with really good players and he put up good stats. I think they actually have some similarities.

Big fan. You should watch, dope sick. It's about the opioid issue in America. It's on Disney Plus. You know what's funny is I have 8 million streaming services? I do not have Disney Plus because I don't have kids yet. So everyone I know with Disney Plus has children. If I had children, I'd have Disney Plus too.

But I just don't have it yet. New show to watch. Severance, Apple TV, sci-fi psychological thriller. I don't have Apple TV either. So the two I don't have, Apple TV and Disney Plus. I guess I did have Apple TV because that's where Ted Lasso was.

So maybe I do have Apple TV, actually. I feel like I only watch my cable, Amazon, Netflix, and a little HBO. Maybe I need to venture out more. But it's like a restaurant. Once I find, it's like a deli. Once I find my go-to sandwich, I don't try to go to other sandwich spots.

Once you make a hell of a hot turkey avocado, I'm coming back once a week. I'm not trying to upgrade on other delis. So once Netflix and Amazon Prime kind of got me, and I think Amazon Prime kind of sucks, Netflix has its moments, but even that, it's like too much inventory. It's like where I even choose?

It's like CPK's menu. Sometimes you get overwhelmed. Listen to the pot on Monday. If you haven't seen Ozark, I'd start there. Pam and Tommy just released. I'm going to watch Pam and Tommy tonight. there's not a kid my age. Do you guys remember if you're 35 and older?

Pam Anderson did a movie when I was probably 10, 11 years old, Barb wire. You guys, if you're like in your 20s and listening to this, Barbwire was so popular. Pam Anderson was like the Tom Brady of women in the mid-90s. She could do no wrong. She was in the peak of her powers. And when Barbwire came out, we all saw it about seven million times. I'm going to watch Pam and Tommy.

I'm going to write that down. Pam and Tommy. Can you provide some insight on how trade talks and negotiations go between teams? I'm sure many fans have a picture of fantasy football trading with a buddy in mind, which probably isn't very accurate. For example, if one team makes an offer and the other team seems a little too eager to accept. Can the first team retract up or up their asking price?

Can teams pull out at any point? Can teams take an offer they've received from one team and broadcast it around the league? Well, the last thing you've said happens all the time. Anytime you see a woege or a shifter putting out, you know, a trade is close. They have this on the table. They're trying to let everyone know what the offer is. Now, I've never negotiated a trade. But actually since I've been in this business, I've talked.

to a lot of people about how it goes down. A lot of stuff that's going to go down is going to happen next week in Indianapolis. So there are, if you're a general manager, you're going to meet next week with so many agents and so many other GMs about ideas you have about signing their clients, about interest in their clients, and what it would take to do a deal with other teams. So, you know, it's a relationship business. It's not, if you buy a house, right? I'm sitting in this condo.

When I bought this condo, I never met the other people. It was very unemotional, the transaction. And they actually ended up screwing up some paperwork. And I got like a $20,000 reduction. And honestly, I wanted to do it more. I remember my real estate agent, you know, he thought that he's like, you know, they might call your bluff. I'm like, fuck them.

They had a contingency that they needed the money to buy their other place. And it was just very, it was very ruthless. Which honestly, about some business deals I like. just a roofless business deal. Just, you know, I offer this. In the NFL, or just a business that's just very public, you know all the other people. So it's not like you can totally screw over people.

And if you offer a fourth round pick, let me rephrase. Let's say there's a sweet player on the market, like Laramie Tunzel. They're going to put Laramie Tunzel on the market, the Texans. He's a starting left tackle. and let's say you're a team and I'll offer you a high second round pick for them

well if I'm Casario I go well I'm interested but you know give me 24 hours I gotta see what else I can get so I think transparency in a deal is always key I think when you deal with GMs especially when you've done deals before like if Howie Roseman is doing a deal with John Schneider

or they're talking on the phone like they've had conversations for a decade or Jason Light with Jerry Jones or Belichick with Kevin Colbert. These guys have been doing business, you know, Veach and Andy with Sean Payton and Mickey Loomis, even though I know Sean Payton's gone.

But you know what I'm saying? These guys have all been in rooms together for years. A lot of times, like when you do business deals, if you've never met a person, you just, you can be a little more aggressive. Like you kind of have, or you just kind of feel a guy out. There's no feeling guy out when you know them.

Like, these people have personal relationships. I think the agent stuff gets a little, shadier because of, you know, if I'm just doing a trade with you, we're just both trying to get maximum value. With the agent, like, I'm trying to get the most money humanly possible. Because that's the most money I make, and that's the most money my client makes. And the more money he makes, the more clients I get. So I think it's a lot different doing a trade with another GM that you know, even if you're just cordial with, than doing a deal with an agent, even if you're friends with that agent, his goal is different than your goal. Because if he has a $20 million dollar place, he's a

$20 million player, you would love to sign his player for $10 million. He would never give you that player for $10 million, though, if he'd get 20. I was wondering if you'd be a guest on my sports podcast. I would. You hit me up a couple times. Hit me up again. You know, I say this all the time. Like, I hit up a lot of people and get told no.

And I go on a lot of random sports podcasts, but sometimes I make people work for it. You know, it's like, you got to DM me or email me a couple times. If I don't respond, you know, I hit up Mike Shanahan, tried to get him on my other podcasts, about 10 times. He's never responded. I'll keep hitting him up. I hit up Steve Young a million times. Like, it's okay to get no every once in a while or keep working for it.

Not saying that, you know, you DM me a couple times. You DM me again, and I'll probably give you an interview or come on your podcast. And don't get me wrong, I'm not acting like I'm some big deal. But I get told no a lot to. or they just don't even get responded to, which is, you know, healthy. Honestly, being told no, someone hit me up today in my email.

They're like, how do you get sponsors on the pod? And I'm like, well, when I started my other pod, I just started DM people, started cold, cold emailing people. Just fucking hustle. It's the best part about America. Just start swinging. And you're going to get a shitload of nose. You're going to get 50, 80, 100 nose.

What is your theory on why there are no top quarterback prospects in this year's draft? Really, why haven't there been more than a few per year in recent drafts? We have never had more youth quarterback camps, even though most young NFL quarterback talent did not have personal quarterback trainers. Well, there were five quarterbacks taken the previous year in the top 15.

So Zach Wilson came out early. Trey Lance came out after one year. year starting. Justin Fields came out early. Trevor Lawrence came out early. And Mac Jones had another year he came out early. So it was just a year when a lot of guys came out. You know, in a couple years before a bunch of, I mean, we had a lot of quarterbacks drafted in like four straight years. You just don't have an unlimited amount of good quarterbacks. And of those five guys that were drafted last year, probably two of them were going to be really good players. Just basic supply of demand. Every team in college has a quarterback. The percentage of those guys that can play in the NFL

is small. Then the percentage of those guys that are viewed as top prospects is even smaller. Next year in 2023, I can already tell you, C.J. Stroud, big time prospect. Baller. Bryce Young, he's a pretty high-level prospect. Small, but he's a big-time prospect. What's your take on the new USFL league coming soon? I think I said on Friday. podcast that Luleta was the number one overall pick. I was eating dinner before I recorded this and I saw that I was wrong. It was Shea Patterson. So that tells you everything you didn't know about the league.

Shea Patterson. Shea Patterson was the number one overall pick in the league. I mean, come on. What are we doing? No real football comment question for you. Born and raised in Nebraska. So a big Husker fan. So I have nothing to do but put my head down until this.

I just watched the first season of True Crime, the one with Matthew McConaughey and HBO Max. It's one of the best seasons of TV ever. I've seen it. Any good show that is culturally relevant, I'm usually watching live. Again, I watch a lot of TV. Skip the second season and I'm watching the third one now and it's also super good.

But not quite as good. I'll have to check out the third one. I only watch the first season. I don't think I watched the second season. Huge listener, also a UC Davis alum and from Danville. Question for the mailbag. Seeing as the Niners are a Super Bowl caliber team, why would another talented team, the Steelers, the Broncos trade for Jimmy G

when he's already proven he can't get it done even in a good situation? I mean, I get him as a bridge quarterback, but not to have a young stud like Lance learning behind him seems like a wasted season for those teams. Well, let's use the Broncos and Steelers as examples. Obviously, you did. What if they can't find another quarterback? What if Aaron Rogers stays with the Packers?

Jimmy Garoppolo is way better than Teddy Bridgewater. So why wouldn't you just want a quarterback? Do you know what the Denver Broncos would do to make the playoffs next year? A lot. You know, I think the Steelers just need some capable quarterback play. You don't have to sign them to an extension,

but you need, the Denver Broncos would love, would love to make the playoffs. I think that's the key. I heard you asking for TV show Rex on today's episode, recommend drives to survive, seen it. If you haven't seen it already, think you'd enjoy it, love it.

F1 racing is something I knew zero about before starting to watch the show, but does a great job of breaking down the storylines, rivalries, and seasons of racing. Well, it is sweet. You guys are all watching the same shows as me. It shows you how sad it is. I've watched all these shows.

The rumors that the Panthers contacted Minnesota about trading for Kirk Cousins here in the local Carolina sports scene. With Tom Brady and Sean Peyton retiring, do you think the NFC South is wide open? And should the Panthers stay aggressive and trade for a veteran quarterback like Cousins, Foles, Wentz, Gardner Minchu, that can win games on a good football team

and draft a line, or should they develop a quarterback like Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis? I would only draft one of those quarterbacks if I think he's a 10-year starter. If I do not think he's a 10-year starter and a high-end player, I'm not drafting him. I'd probably run a back with Sam Donald.

As crazy as that sounds, you've already picked up the fifth-year option, you trade a second-round pick for him, just see what he's got, keep building up the team, and then you'll be in position to win the following year, potentially. Now, I don't think the head coach is thinking like that. he's going to want to win.

But I would give Sam Donald one more shot, especially with McAdo. Everyone who can make fun of McAdoo, but when he's ran offenses, they've been pretty good. He's a pretty good offensive mind. I would like to see McAdoo and Sam Donald. As crazy as that sounds, you would have laughed at me if I would have said that like two years ago. But I'm serious. I want to see McAdo and Sam Darmle. Because clearly, let's face it, Joe Brady didn't really know what he was doing.

And maybe if Sam Darlance totally sucks, that look better on Joe Brady. But Joe Brady couldn't get an offensive coordinator job. He's a quarterback coach. That's about all my voice has. Appreciate everyone listening. Hope you're having a good weekend. And add John Middlecoff as the Instagram.
