This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care which I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard,
but celebrated.
So let's get to it.
Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeard radio app,

What is going on, everybody?
John Middlecop, three and out podcast.
Thought I do a little Sunday middle cop mailbag.
before the Super Bowl. It's finally here. We have one more football game. Coward will join me
tonight after the Chiefs and Eagles game. I have the Chiefs tonight. Don't feel great about it,
but I'm taking the Chiefs. Other than that, just watching a little golf right now at home,
hanging out, didn't go to the tournament today like every single other human being alive. I think
I peaked for Super Bowl week around Thursday night. Got a little intoxication.
So Friday was a struggle.
Today's a work day.
You got to keep the content flowing.
So we got a Middlecoff mailback.
Very easy.
At John Middlecoph is the Instagram firing those DMs.
Get your question to answer here on the show.
Very, very easy to do.
Let's start with, I think you say is Akash.
Hey, John, hope you're enjoying Super Bowl Week.
As an Eagles fan, I feel like I'm about to explode any minute in anticipation.
Don't blame you.
I'd be pretty fired up too.
I'll listen to your pod from yesterday and had a thought.
If the Raiders can't find a trade,
for car, could they trade him to Tampa for Brady's rights? I don't think Brady's coming back,
but if he does, then Vegas has the rights and leverage if he wants to play elsewhere.
I would imagine that would be better than just simply cutting car. Thoughts? Well, Brady was a free agent.
Brady could have gone wherever he wanted, so that Tampa no longer has his rights. Part of it was,
you know, the conversation around Tom, when he retired is like he was free to test the open market.
Now, I think we'd all be naive to think that they didn't have some idea, you know, who would be interested.
Vegas, I would imagine Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch.
And who knows?
Maybe they will still talk, though.
The story was it over the last 48 hours?
I want to say Schefter.
I just saw Schefter Post.
Who was he with?
He was with Booger McFarlane and some other famous guy at the golf tournament.
Shefter's living his life.
The Tom filed the paperwork.
So, I mean, it's, that's not nothing.
You know, you see a lot of guys that retire don't file the paperwork.
Now, just because you retire, like JJ Watt made a joke, I think this week,
he doesn't intend on filing the paperwork, but he's definitely done.
So, I don't know.
My question is that, I guess, my take on it is that Tom's probably done.
And the car, you know, it's February.
If you're listening to this, it's the 12th.
They have to decide financially by early next week.
I think it's the 15th.
So I would, I expect car to get cut and just do like a handshake deal with the Saints.
Like why?
If he wants to sign with the Saints, just wait until like a cut.
We'll use that third round pick.
Draft a guard.
You have to tight end.
Like I, wherever I'm going, I want the help.
So I would expect this to be finalized here with Derek and the Saints this week.
But I don't expect to trade.
I'm a farmer from the Bay Area and grew up in Folsom.
Where does your brother farm?
Sacramento Davis area.
But they've kind of branched out and do a lot of other stuff now.
You know, farming industry has changed a lot.
You know, they make more money doing real estate stuff now than the farm farms.
Farming's hard, man.
It is.
Takes a lot of time, a lot of effort.
It is a, it's a tough business.
How are we feeling about Moracawa?
I can't find the stream, but I tailed your pick.
Awfully missed the cut.
My gambling is cooled off.
My golf gambling peaked a couple weeks ago.
Then Brock Purdy,
someone tagged me in a tweet,
Purdy and Breeze were talking somewhere at the Super Bowl.
And Breeze had his arm and was like pointing to his elbow.
I'm like, oh my God,
one of these two talking about?
Obviously, Breeze, you know, has battled injuries with the shoulder.
I think he had an elbow injury too.
Definitely the shoulder.
Purdy, you know, is officially getting surgery here in a week.
No more gambling on golf chiefs.
And then we will figure out golf.
gambling the following week,
Eldrick Tiger Woods is back.
So we just got to hammer the chiefs.
John your beast, love the show.
The Bears fan here.
That means the Chicago Bears.
What is the most likely scenario of them trading down the number one pick?
How much is that pick really worth to the Colts or the Texans?
Well, the Texans would just have to move up one spot.
You know, several years ago, the 49ers traded from two to three.
it was actually for Mitch Trubisky.
It was a disaster all the way around.
The Bears got Mitch Trubisky.
The Niners took Solomon Thomas.
Everyone would like a redo on that.
You just would have taken Patrick Mahomes.
But I'm pretty sure for the Niners to go back from two to three,
they got like a second, third, and a fifth round pick.
So a lot of it has to do with, you know, who else is bidding?
How desperate are you?
I remember one thing the Niners did was like pretend that the Browns were going to trade up for them.
But to me, if I'm the Bears and I'm going to trade back, because I would just have no problem taking one of the defensive linemen or, you know, technically Will Anderson's an outside linebacker pass rusher is I would try to move back several spots, three or four spots and get another one.
Like I'd be thinking big picture here.
You know, I would want to go from like one to five and get another one next year and like some two.
I want serious ammo.
We got so far to go if I'm the Bears.
My team is so terrible.
I need so many assets that I would think bigger picture than just moving back one spot.
Huge fan of the pod.
Listen to the listen for a couple years now.
Now can these 49er players take themselves seriously with how much they bitched and complained all week about their quarterback situation?
They came into the game as the hottest team in football.
With Purdy and the birds knocked him out due to the best pass rushing football.
Eagles went through the same situation in 19.
with Wentz and a concussed McCown came in with a torn hamstring and I don't remember hearing
that from the Eagle players. I think the big difference is twofold. That Eagles team was not as good
as this Niners team. And two, the Niners are getting asked about it. Like they are constantly
getting asked Debo Samuel, Christian McCaffrey, George Kittle when they do these interviews. And in their
mind, like they didn't even get a chance. That's a fact. They did not get a chance. Now, I've said
all along, Kyle Shanahan blocking Hassan Redick with the backup tied end, he deserves shit for it.
But I do understand the players like, this is bullshit. If they were bitching and moaning and just lost a
normal game, I'm with you. I don't necessarily have them like, what are they supposed to say?
Oh, yeah, they would have kicked our ass anyway. No. Like, I do get it. You know, now, I saw Robbie
Gold make some comments about Jalen Hertz. Like, that's where I draw the line. But like Debo, Samuel,
McCaffrey and George Kittle, like, it's, I don't know, it doesn't bother me that those guys are
still really bitter. Now, I've said over and over, Slay said that some of Kittles comments leading
into the game, pissed them off. And my issue with Kittle is like, you're allowed to talk shit
if you're George Kittle, if you're Debo Samuel, if you're Trent Williams or Nick Bosa, because you
can back it up. But this isn't golf. Like, ultimately George and you people, all these Niners fans
were like, oh, you really think George's comments motivated them?
Well, the team literally is saying they did.
Darius Lay came on and said it pissed off their defense.
Some of George's comments of them being like great on paper, but we'll see.
And I just think that like, yeah, George can back it up.
Trent can back it up.
Debo and IUke can back it up.
McGlinchie and Croft cannot back it up.
And they were marks going into that game.
So ultimately could the Niners have lost if they were healthy the whole time
because they couldn't have blocked the right side of the,
Eagles pass rush, of course.
But we have to acknowledge that game was Fugazi.
Like it was fake.
Now, not that the Eagles didn't win,
but the actual outcome was like the Niners fucking did not have a quarterback.
They literally couldn't throw it for a half.
Now, that's the,
what happens when you block the third best pass rusher in the league this year,
if you won Bosa, Micah, and Redick with,
I forget his first name, Croft.
You know, you deserve, like, so you want it fair and square.
But I got no problem with them bitching them on them.
Because again, they're getting asked.
And if you're an Eagles fan, who cares?
Like, you're in the Super Bowl.
Like, that's all it matters.
You know, it just, ultimately, this is just talk.

Listen to the pod recent.
FYI-CBS posted the wrong Super Bowl date.
during the AFC championship game on one of their promos.
I had to look at my calendar.
Not sure when Dallas News dropped,
but could have been the first strike
or reactive to Fox Dallas News leaking.
Keep up the great work.
You're the only person I know that speaks truthfully
about Brady's decline this past season.
Glad he retired and did not decline before our eyes even more.
One thing, like I listen to Michael Lombardi's podcast,
the GM shuffle,
and he has said that Brady's courage
that word has not changed or didn't change this year,
I thought that was, I couldn't disagree anymore.
Now, I don't think Brady is scared.
Like he has 20 years of evidence that like he's not afraid,
but he no longer wants to get hit.
Now, his offensive line was guys were coming nonstop,
but he wanted no part of it.
And if he's not willing to sit in the pocket anymore,
he can't function at a super elite level.
Because the reality is,
And this is like a lot of people ask me,
do you think that the prototypical like quarterback like Tom Brady's ever coming back?
Well, one, you don't control who comes into the league.
But look at all the guys coming in the league over the last half decade.
They're all mobile quarterbacks.
I also think there's an element of the depth that offensive line is nowhere near the same.
So the offensive linemen coming in the league has never been more average.
And there are way better defensive pass rushers consistently coming in.
obviously not just at the edge, but think how many defensive tackles can now rush the passer.
When I was in the NFL in 10, 11, 12, 13, there were not a lot of good interior pass rushers.
They were like five in the league.
Like every team has a pretty good one now.
And the good teams, some have several.
So inside pass rush, like, you got to be mobile.
You don't need to be Lamar Jackson.
But like Mahomes, Aaron Rogers forever.
He was kind of the modern day version of like Josh Allen, Herbert,
and he made guys to move.
Jalen Hertz.
You know, one of the reasons Purdy had a lot of success for the Niners,
he's a good athlete.
A lot of the guys in the NFC or the AFC, excuse me,
like Watson, obviously Russell,
they're going to need to get him back moving around a little bit.
Need the guys to move.
If you can't move, like it's just going to be very hard
because every team has good interior pass rushers.
And it's going to be, think about the quarterbacks
in this draft, right?
Bryce Young, really mobile.
I didn't think C.J. Stroud was.
And then he played the game against Georgia.
You're like, holy shit.
This guy can make shit happen with his legs.
Next year.
Caleb and Drake May, good athletes.
Will Levis, good athlete.
Now, it doesn't mean just because you're a good athlete,
you're going to be a good quarterback.
But I just don't think the day and age of the Peyton Mannings,
they're just, they don't really exist anymore.
And I wouldn't necessarily want one of those guys.
if I was choosing between a stagnant player or a mobile player.
Like Aaron Rogers versus Peyton Manning,
like Aaron Rogers in his prime and Peyton Manning is prime.
Aaron is much more useful in this modern day game.
I think it would be more difficult.
Obviously, those guys are great players.
They're all-time great players.
I'm not trying to diminish anything.
Like, trust me, I like that level of football more.
But there weren't as many good defensive tackle pass rushers.
They're just, they just weren't.
So in the game's changing.
a lot. Maybe if passing was more in vogue, there would have been. So, you know, it's the chicken or the
egg. But like, I lean mobile. I like mobility. Call me modern day Bill Walsh. Like, I like my
quarterback to have some legs. Now, you know, some of the greatest quarterbacks of all time
couldn't move. Tom, Peyton, Marino. Elway could. Like, I like Elway more than I like Marino,
right? I take Elway over Peyton Manning. Listen, I like most people, if you're my age, 35 to 40,
we didn't see peak Elway YouTube Elway in the fucking 80s.
I mean, that guy, that that looks like what we hope Josh Allen and Justin Herbert become.
Because holy shit, that guy was, that's exactly what I want.
6-4 mobile massive arm.
Like that is my, like when I scouted and what I like now, like I don't like the Brock Purdy's.
You know, hell, even Jalen, like Jalen's arm's not great, you know.
It's not bad, but it's not great.
Like, I like guys with Howard Serbs.
Now, just because you have a big arm does not mean you're going to be a great player.
You know, Will Levis is a good example.
He's got a big arm.
A lot of my buddies, you know, kind of dug into them more, you know, are kind of more on the fence.
They see more like a better physical version of like a Trubisky Bortles than they do the next Josh Allen.
But like my inclination of what I like personally, like we all like different things.
You may like your steak medium.
I might like it medium rare.
you like certain type of burgers.
I like, you know, we all tacos, whatever.
Food's a great example.
So if you like that I don't like, now there are some universal things that like most people agree pizza's pretty good.
Obviously, I like accurate quarterbacks, but I tend to like a bigger arm guy.
It's why I've been intrigued with Will Levis.
Now, if he doesn't process football very well, like that's a problem.
And that's kind of the question a lot of people are asking.
But he's still going to go really high because you just, if you have,
hit on traits like that, you immediately get Justin Herbert or Josh Allen.
And when you hit on that, it means you basically go to the playoffs every single year.
I don't know how we got down this tangent, but I'm actually thinking of food.
That's why I brought it up.
I'm starving right now.
Enjoy the Super Bowl.
And we'll talk to everyone Monday morning.
