Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an IHeart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. I'm Joey Dardano. And on my new podcast, Hope From a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff, rant, recommend some of the most legally dubious advice known to me. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to help from Hippocrite Wednesdays on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Conky, his best friend and business manager.
Starting point is 00:01:11 And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports. And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The story I told myself can then shape my behavior and that can lead me to sabotage the
Starting point is 00:01:46 possibility of connection. This Mental Health Awareness Month, tune into the podcast deeply well with Debbie Brown if you've been searching for a soft place to land while doing the work to become whole. This podcast is for you to hear more. Listen to deeply well with Debbie Brown from the Black Effect Podcast Network on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
Starting point is 00:02:12 And I'm C.J. Toledano. It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast point game, the playoffs. We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season. And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments. If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying. You just understood. That's how personal it got. Wow.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Then after that game seven, Marquis coming to him. He's like, you know, I love you, dog. You know, it's all love. This was just playoffs. This was just basketball. So listen to Point Game on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Volume. What is going on, everybody, John Middlecough, Three and Out podcast?
Starting point is 00:02:59 Hopefully everyone is doing well, doing great, doing better than Goff and the Lions. And Dan Campbell, who get beat in Philadelphia and go forward about 50 times on fourth down. Don't get any of them. We will dive into that game. A lot happen today. We'll dive into the Rams, Seattle, Denver against Patrick Mahomes.
Starting point is 00:03:22 My guy Kevin O'Connell, who just refuses to make it easy on J.J. McCarthy, who's obviously not good. Some scouting from the couch, because I watched a lot of college football on Saturday, so a couple takes. We will dive into that as well. And yeah, that'll be the plan. So I went on with Colin after the afternoon games. We're firing this off after the Sunday night game. And we'll be live. We'll have a podcast after the Monday night game.
Starting point is 00:03:52 So we're just firing here. These are the dog days of football and fire it up for Raiders Cowboys. But we'll have content all week. Thanksgiving's right around the corner. So get ready to eat some turkey. But you guys know the drill. Make sure you subscribe. Wherever you listen, we're on Apple, Spotify, any podcast, any place you listen to podcasts, we have you covered, as well as YouTube.
Starting point is 00:04:15 You'll never miss a live as long as you subscribe there. Takes on a couple guys that I watched from Saturday. But before we dive into some football, I do need to tell you about my friends at Zone. And this product contains nicotine. Nicotine is addictive chemical. Underage sale prohibited. If you're as competitive. as I am, and you're always looking for something to help you stay dialed in and for me,
Starting point is 00:04:40 that thing is zone nicotine pouches. You won't catch me without a can. Right now, it's mint. I need to get some, I've been looking for my citrus flavors, but I can't find them. They don't have them at a couple of Chevron's by me, so I might have to go on a mission tomorrow. Not to mention 20 pouches per can versus the 15 for the other guys. Choose zone and dominate the day. Use the promo code number three and out 20 on NicoKick.com for 20% off at checkout.
Starting point is 00:05:13 I was thinking about this. I actually was thinking about this yesterday. I was like, I need some like just consistent advice to give people and something that just could be universal. And I was like, you know one thing that really benefited me? And it was kind of luck, right? It happened to be like a guy my dad worked for, my buddy's grandpa and my buddy's dad, like people that really, really influenced me as a kid, I just think had big balls.
Starting point is 00:05:39 And those were type people I've always admired in life. And, you know, I've worked for people that just kind of had some nuts on them. And we're not scared. And I think the more you surround yourself with people like that in life, the more prepared you are for the real world. And I've been very fortunate and very lucky. And I always gravitate toward those type people. and Dan Campbell obviously falls under that category.
Starting point is 00:06:07 But I also think there is a line of like having stones and being reckless. And I think there is a fine line and sometimes people jump over that line and get themselves in trouble. I've been guilty of that. I'm sure you have as well. Whether it's personally, whether it's financially, whether it's in a job situation. And I think you watch Dan Campbell tonight. and I don't think there's any way around it, like he was reckless. Going forward on fourth down is something that is supported in football now.
Starting point is 00:06:39 And most of us are behind it. I've always said most people on their couch in the 90s, in the 2000s, back when football was much more conservative in terms of like kicking field goals or punting, we're screaming at the television, go for it. So in this new world of analytics where the numbers are on, the side of, you know, telling the offensive coordinators or head coaches to lean, be aggressive, that, like, the fans are on board. But there's also a line of, like, this is a defensive game.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And sometimes field position in a game that is 6 to 6 or 13 to 6, you don't need to always go forward on 4th down. Right? You don't always need to go for 2, right? in a game that kicking the extra points are ultimately going to be the difference at the end. And I think you watched tonight and you went,
Starting point is 00:07:36 Dan, this is not 2004 when you were playing the Green Bay Packers. And the video of you on Wednesday, because I think hard knocks in season, was documenting you, went really viral. And you basically put it all on the offense because you had a bunch of defensive injuries
Starting point is 00:07:54 and you said, it's all on us. We're going to go for it every time. And everyone understood. You had to. You were playing me, the dude down the street, and your mother at linebacker and DB. Totally understand. Tonight you're playing the Philadelphia Eagles, whose offense is atrocious. I think if you gave A.J. Brown the opportunity, and you said, AJ, we'll still pay you.
Starting point is 00:08:17 You don't have to play for this team. He'd be like, well, can I play for another team? You can't, but you just don't have to play for this team anymore. I think he'd be like, cool, I'm done for the year. I'm over this. no one feels less interested than A.J. Brown in what they got going on. The Eagles offense is atrocious to watch. It is awful. They have no passing game. Their run game because of offensive line injuries sucks. I mean, Sequan's struggling to average
Starting point is 00:08:45 three yards to carry because there's nowhere for him to go. All the metrics, you know, are proving that he's getting hit behind the line of scrimmage. He's got nowhere to go. Their offense is awful to watch. But that's who your point is. playing. You're not playing Brett Farve. You're not playing Aaron Rogers. You're not playing the Eagles of last year. You're playing this Eagles team that had no chance to get to 20 points. So sometimes punning the ball or wait for it, kicking field goals when your field goal kicker looks pretty good to me, makes some sense. And he had a stretch in the third quarter where he went for it three times on fourth down. None of them that he accomplished his goal.
Starting point is 00:09:28 when he said, go for it, guys. And then twice, he essentially forced three and outs for the Eagles and got the ball right back. Here's the other thing. And I've said this all the time, like, on the conversation when it comes to going for two or situations late in game, I do think you have to factor in always who you're playing and how your offense is doing. And tonight, Jared Goff, and I've said this forever, I'm born and raised in California. I'm 40, just turned 41 a month ago.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Of those 41 years of my life, I think if I did the math, 34, 35 of them were spent either in San Luis Obispo, Fresno, or Davis, California, slash the Bay Area. The overwhelming majority of my life was in California on the West Coast, and now I live in Scottsdale. We do not do well in cold weather. I lived in Philadelphia for a couple of years. I hated it.
Starting point is 00:10:28 I couldn't stand it. You know why? The way my body and the temperature of my blood does not deal with it. Why? I'm not accustomed to it. When I grew up if I wanted to go to cold weather, we got in a car and we drove two and a half hours to Lake Tahoe. And when we were over it, we left.
Starting point is 00:10:47 So when I see Jared Goff wearing two gloves in that environment, I lived in Philly for two years. I've been to some games. They were really, really cold. One time, I think my first year working for the Eagles, we played the Minnesota Vikings with Brett Farb. Actually, I think he had gotten injured. So their backup quarterback, God, I forget his name. He was like a former wide receiver.
Starting point is 00:11:08 He was like this hybrid player. Wasn't very good even though he beat us. The Sunday night game got delayed by two nights. It was played on Tuesday because of like a sleet hurricane. It was, everything was frozen. And tonight wasn't that. It was windy. It was cold.
Starting point is 00:11:25 Jared Goff had to wear two gloves. I'm like, this is not going to work. He looked extremely uncomfortable. Now, part of that, and we'll get into it, is Vic Feigeo in the defense, which looks dominant right now. But you could tell early that Jared Goff wanted no part of this cold. Because guess what? Most people from warm weather don't like the cold. You'd be like, well, John, he lives in Detroit.
Starting point is 00:11:51 They play in a dome. They don't play in this. inclement weather. No different than Minnesota. It's freezing, but they don't do that. That's not how they play. Right now, if you play at Kansas City or in Baltimore or in Pittsburgh, you don't have a choice. You have to play outside. But given where they play, like, he's in a controlled environment. So his entire career is Cal, which, you know, can be overcast and a little misty, but it sure is hell eight 30 degrees. And then he went to L.A., and now he's playing in a dome. So when you put him outdoors, it doesn't look the same.
Starting point is 00:12:26 And I'm a Jared Gough fan. But I've always said, like, I understand the California guys, especially the West Coast players, when you put them in weather, it can get ugly and it can get ugly really fast. So the head coach has to know this. So this notion of like,
Starting point is 00:12:40 Sean Peyton taught me to be ballsy and not be conservative like Bill Parcells, all for it. Totally on board. But you could tell early, like, this ain't a good idea, Dan. Just kick a couple field goals. Because you never know.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Jalen could throw it. to you. Jalen could fumble. Something weird could happen. But instead of being down 13, 6, what if you're down 13 to 12 or 16 to 12? And just put yourself and give yourself some momentum. But every time you go for it on fourth down, and tonight it didn't even feel remotely close. And one thing you're clearly missing, which is no one's fault. He's just injured, is Sam LaPorta, who would obviously be pretty valuable on some of these fourth and fours or fourth and fives. But then as the game went on, you start punting in the fourth quarter. It's like, why are you punning now? What the fuck is going on? And the answer is, I think he just naturally goes
Starting point is 00:13:37 for it. And then he realized his quarterback, like we all realize, is not on and playing the worst game, what feels like of the last several years. And then he changed his course in the fourth quarter. You can't do that. You cannot do that. I thought Dan Campbell was atrocious tonight, really. And I am a Dan Campbell fan. I have, I have, I revere the guy for what he has done in that franchise, which was a laughing stock, which was a joke and turned them into a winning place. But tonight, like, it just wasn't good. It wasn't because of the decisions.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I'm not, I'm not like nitpicking the place, right? One play on fourth down to St. Brown, who wasn't open. One play up the gut to Gibbs. Like, I'm not going to fault you for giving the ball to Gibbs. it's so easy to play Monday morning quarterback on an individual play call. I'm more have an issue with the ultimate decision of like, just take the points here. Just take a deep breath and take the points.
Starting point is 00:14:36 Give your quarterback, like that's a positive drive. That was successful instead of just like handing the ball back to Philadelphia, especially when your defense is going to force three plays and get the ball right back. It made no sense. He approached tonight, and I said this earlier, They were playing the Philadelphia Eagles team that they were playing, no different than they were playing the Green Bay Packers last year when he told the team that we're going to go for it every time.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Which, why would you have that mindset and that game plan against a team whose offense, just the previous week scored 10 points? Their offense is broken. It's not working. You can use that to your advantage. Keep it low scoring and give yourself a chance in the fourth quarter. And tonight, technically, he did. I mean, the referees at the end of the game calling that penalty on the Lions corner,
Starting point is 00:15:30 the Temple Kid against A.J. Brown is an embarrassment. But like, the officials oftentimes are a joke. My only issue, and I'm someone that had the Lions tonight, it's hard for me. Like, obviously that was a bad call at the end of the game. Like, that shouldn't happen. But I almost feel like I did with Seattle. Like, you have no business winning this game.
Starting point is 00:15:50 You don't deserve to win this game. You honestly deserve to lose. And listen, I'll give Dan Campbell the benefit of the doubt as an overall play caller. A tough environment. His quarterback is just crumbling like a cookie. He's playing arguably the best defensive coordinator whose defense looks fantastic. It's going to be a tough spot. But the decisions on fourth down, I don't care what nerds over the next 24 hours be like,
Starting point is 00:16:17 that's the right decision. No, not tonight. Under no circumstances is the right decision. It's the wrong decision. And it just, it had a huge, huge impact on the Lions tonight. And if they're going to be in situations which Chicago Bears, who are currently in first place, congrats to Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams,
Starting point is 00:16:39 who again are in first place in the middle of November. Remember last year, we're about a week away from when Iber Fluse blew the end of the game on Thanksgiving. So the bears have come a long, in a short period of time. Now, do I think they're ultimately going to win the division? I'd be a little surprised. But at this point in time, who knows?
Starting point is 00:17:01 But I do know this, that the Lions feel much more likely to be playing in a wildcard game on the road in Philadelphia, in Seattle, in Tampa. Now, depending on, it could be the Rams, the weather might or might not be a factor. Who knows? At Philadelphia, that he's going to have to rethink some of this with his quarterback, even if Leporto's back.
Starting point is 00:17:25 Guys got two gloves, he just looks cold. You know when you see an individual, like some people, you ever watch Big Dom with the Eagles? Regardless of the weather, he won't have long sleeves on, completely unfaced. Like whether it's 20 degrees or 70 degrees, Big Dom looks the same. Yet you look at Jared Goff, that thing gets below about 55,
Starting point is 00:17:46 you're like, God, I just start like, do I need to put on a sweatshirt? He's making me feel cold. So rough, rough night for Dan Campbell, even though his defense was playing pretty well and props to Kelvin Shepard, who's done an excellent job on defense. And speaking of defense, it doesn't feel like we're that far removed from going, God, I don't think the Eagles defense is very good. We've known, like, this year the Eagles offense has had issues. A.J. Brown isn't even hiding it.
Starting point is 00:18:15 He despises everything about the offense. The play calling. Don't think he likes the quarterback. he's just over it and he will be traded in about three and a half months. But right now he's on the team. And clearly Sequin, who is the opposite, like total team guy,
Starting point is 00:18:32 there's just nowhere for him to go. I mean, he struggled to do average three yards of carry tonight. Their interior offensive line is not good. I mean, they got stuff tonight on a tush push. Not like it was this next one, like they got pushed the other way because their guard center guard is just not even remotely close to what it was.
Starting point is 00:18:51 last year. Part of that is injuries and the losing Becked into the Chargers, who's hurt this year too, but they're just not the same, right? So you watch the Eagles, you go, how is this team this good? And the answer to the last couple of weeks is their defense looks dominant. And we talked about, you know, edge pressure and what they were going to do and how he addressed that with Jalen Phillips. And he looked fantastic tonight. And there's a dominant. effect when you have a deep defensive line.
Starting point is 00:19:25 It makes it easier on everybody. And ever since Jalen Phillips, these last two games, you feel Jalen Carter more. You feel Jordan Davis more. Nukobi Dean, who got injured last year, is back. Their linebacking corps with him, with Campbell, and I don't know, the guy who was an all pro last year is fantastic. So now you go, do the Eagles have one of the best front sevens in the NFL?
Starting point is 00:19:49 and the answer is yes. And then you also factor in that they have, I don't know, a top three corner in the NFL. They obviously Jair just retired or whatever, but they trade for the dude from the Jets. They have a bunch of other guys that they can just rotate through on top of Cooper DeGine. They do have, most teams have, if you have one high-end corner, you're ahead of the game. So they got a high-end corner, they have a good slot where corner. They just have to figure it out at the other position, which, welcome to the NFL. That's the way it works.
Starting point is 00:20:20 They have solid safety play, and the defense these last two weeks looks like he's got a chance to carry them, which is fine. Their offense was a huge reason that they were a dominant team last year. At any moment, Seyquant could take 150 or 60. A.J. and Devante, when they were both on the field, were unstoppable forces. That's not the case this year, right? It's just not. Eagles fans know it.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Even if you're like, don't hate on Jalen hurts, you have to acknowledge. It doesn't look right. But who cares? If you're going to have a defense like that, just has the Denver Broncos. Yeah, our offense has been shitty the majority of the year. We're up, after we play the commanders and the Raiders, we're about to be 11 and 2. We apologize to nobody. And if I'm an Eagles fan, I go, yeah, whatever.
Starting point is 00:21:02 This is why we give Vic Fangio $5, $6 a year. This is why we got Harry Roseman, wheeling and dealing. Because now we'll just, we'll win it on defense. And you start looking around the NFC, and we'll get into Seattle and the Rams for a little bit. It's like, yeah, we'll take our chance with our defense against any team. Sam Donald, want to roll into here? We like our shot. Matt Stafford, he'd be tough.
Starting point is 00:21:22 He is 38 years old and we think we can hit him. Right? Jordan Love, you saw how that went. Jared Goff, you saw how that went. Well, those guys are better than Caleb. So now, Caleb breaks a lot of tackles. We'll see him in a couple weeks on Black Friday. We'll take our chances on that one too. The 49ers,
Starting point is 00:21:40 offensively, that'd be a good matchup. But defensively, if we can't score 15 points against them, we got bigger issues. So I think if you're the Eagles right now, with Vic Fangio, you feel really, really good. Because offensively, like, it is what it is. Like, your offense isn't going to be good this year. You're going to make some big plays, maybe,
Starting point is 00:22:00 if you hit AJ or Devante down the field. But, like, I don't expect any sort of... Tom Brady had a comment today. He called the Bears... He called them more... More explosive than surgical. I'm like, I like that. And that's what I think the Eagles have some variation of that to their offense,
Starting point is 00:22:21 even though it's not even that explosive. But they do have explosive capabilities. You just don't see it very often. But that defense, since Adin Jalen Phillips, looks elite. And the reason that I think it is something that can sustain is because I've seen Dick Fangio with high-end players. When you give them high-end players, he kicks ass and takes names. So I think we just got to wrap our head around that the Eagles are now a defensive team.
Starting point is 00:22:45 and Siriani was 55 and 22 after last week is now 56 and 22. Wins a lot of games. So you can say he's carried by assistant coaches, Harry Roseman. I've often been guilty of saying that. He just can't, his record is record. And tonight's a good example. Like he's playing Dan Campbell, who I think is one of the better coaches in the NFL, and it wasn't even a fair fight.
Starting point is 00:23:07 He just, you know, what did Bobby Knight say? Stupid loses more games than smart wins. He just let Dan Campbell. do dumb things and they just kind of cruise the victory. Starting point is 00:25:05 Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special.
Starting point is 00:25:20 So how do we, how do we have? actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys. I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. We were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:25:39 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.

Starting point is 00:27:11 I'm a comedian. And recently, I've become quite the helper myself. And on my new podcast, hope from a hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions. Sike, I'm a comedian. I'm not qualified to give good advice. Join me and my comedian friends as we riff rant and recommend some of the most legally
Starting point is 00:27:33 dubious advice known to man. If I'm calling you, even if you're on your phone, let it ring twice. One ring is too scary. Oh, cream of chicken suit. Hey, cream. Cream a chicken suit. This is Help from a Hypocrite, the worst advice from the dumbest people you know. Listen to Help from Hypocrite as part of the Mike Coutura Podcast Network
Starting point is 00:27:55 available on the IHart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Orsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the boozy. style of Housewives show, I think it looks like it's going to be interesting.
Starting point is 00:28:20 On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the T everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this.
Starting point is 00:28:42 At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano,
Starting point is 00:28:59 and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves,
Starting point is 00:29:15 I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nasree. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:29:34 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Okay, a couple other things. I think today was tough if you are a Sam Donald Stan because you go, does he have a big game problem?
Starting point is 00:30:16 My big question mark coming out of the Seattle, L.A. game is is Sam Darnold not good in big games or do the Rams just own them? Because the Rams played them in the playoffs, punked them, and today they picked them out four times. And these weren't like random, balls tipped flying in the air that happened a couple times against the Cardinals the previous week ago. These are guys picking it off in stride. Like Sam Darnold hitting them in the numbers.
Starting point is 00:30:45 Today was pretty rough. And I think if I'm a Seattle fan, I just go, listen, our coach is elite at what he does. Their defense is fantastic. They held Matt Stafford to under 150 yards. One of the touchdowns was because Donald, his first pick, led to an immediate touchdown. The Seattle defense is elite. And that's Mike McDonald's baby.
Starting point is 00:31:12 I believe in Kubiak, and I don't put this, because I've seen this with Kevin O'Connell, I've seen this with Kubiak. This might be a Donald issue. And I do think it's a good lesson from McDonald of like, we might, I might have to coach up my offensive coordinator to have a different plan of attack with Sam in some of these bigger games. Because I do think for the first time this year,
Starting point is 00:31:36 kind of that alert went off. They went, oof, because he was hitting guys on the Rams. It was just, like I told Coward, they like sped him up, but also like slowed him down. Like he just kind of felt lost.
Starting point is 00:31:51 and years ago he had the famous I'm seeing ghosts. It just felt like he wasn't comfortable. He still made some big plays. He still threw for 280 yards. But you throw four interceptions, you 100% deserve to lose. And honestly, I have no clue how they had a chance to win it at the end of the game. It honestly speaks to how complete of a team this is. If Sam Donald just throws two picks and two touchdowns,
Starting point is 00:32:18 I mean, Seattle might win by 15 points. So it really, he's the reason they lose. Now, he's also been the reason they've won some games. So I'm not trying to just crush the guy. But I do think we have to acknowledge some of these bigger games. I don't know if he's more amped up coming in. I don't know if he felt the pressure. Because let's face it, it doesn't get much bigger in this.
Starting point is 00:32:39 You have the same record. You're playing for the division. You already have a divisional loss. They don't. It's on the road. This is a team that knocked you out of the playoffs last year, even though a lot of these guys obviously on your new team weren't a part of that. But like this is a big deal to Darnold and he failed.
Starting point is 00:32:57 I mean, he was bad. And the difference in the game is like Stafford, who historically has thrown some interceptions, did not. So I just think on the bright side if you're Seattle, your coach, I think, is like the equal right there with McVay and Kyle. I think he's excellent. The problem is just the quarterback. It's just something to monitor. Not writing the guy off, not saying he can never win a big game, but in our short sample size, since he's become a good player starting in 2024,
Starting point is 00:33:26 the Lions, the Rams playoff game, and then the Rams game this year did not go well. And this went really bad. And I also think McVe's guy, Shula, as defensive coordinator, kind of has some serious onage on Sam. Whatever they are doing is completely throwing them off. Because the other thing is, the Rams' defensive backfield, is not good. Mac Jones threw for 650 yards against them this year.
Starting point is 00:33:52 Has annihilated them through the air. Hell, Darnold threw for 280 yards. But he's putting guys in positions and maybe it's the pass rush as well that Sam's just throwing it to them. Four times. And three of them were about, the one, Tebow one where he like jumps in the air
Starting point is 00:34:09 to do like the jump pass. He might as well just hand it to the defense back. It was it was a rough day for Sam. Congrats to the Rams. That was a massive win. Sean McVeigh. I love Seattle in that spot.
Starting point is 00:34:24 Now, if you would have told me that Donald would have thrown four interceptions, I would have said, I bet the Rams win by 20 points. So it's still stunning. I'm pacing around the office as Sam gets the ball at the one-yard line and is driving them down to midfield. I don't quite know the clock operator in L.A. That feels like it should be at double zero. He's like double pumping,
Starting point is 00:34:47 and he gets it to who do you throw it to Shaheed. It felt like that was more than five seconds, but they still had a shot for a game-winning field goal and it was just wide right. I do think at this point
Starting point is 00:35:01 when you look at the schedule, that Denver should be the number one seat. You know, the Colts play the Chiefs this upcoming week. They still have to play the Texans. I do think Denver is just in the driver's seat. They got the commanders coming up. They got the Raiders.
Starting point is 00:35:17 They're going to be 11 and 2 with a ton of momentum. And their defense, speaking of the Eagles, you know, the Eagles add Jalen Phillips. They got some really great edge pressure. The Denver Broncos are on pace to break the sack record in the history of the NFL. It feels like every guy on their defensive line could just play like the nine technique way over the tight end and just rush off the edge. Defensive tackles included. When you have a defensive line that every guy feels. like they have the speed of the defensive end,
Starting point is 00:35:50 you know you're cooking with gas. The Broncos had that with Peyton Manning. When they had DeMarcus Ware, when they had Vaughn Miller, obviously two Hall of Famers coming off the edge, they had Malik Jackson, who was a fantastic interior pass rusher, who played at the speed like an end.
Starting point is 00:36:07 Same thing with Derek Wolf. And it was like when those four guys were on, he had no shot. That's how this group feels. With just elite DB play and obviously Sartan's going to come back. And just a mentality of just team speed, you're like, this thing jumps off the tape.
Starting point is 00:36:23 And massive, massive win. I mean, there was a moment when Kelsey scored where you thought, this is going to be an elite chief's victory. On the road in Denver against this defense, Travis is having, feels like the best game he's had in a couple years. What? Just a gut check victory.
Starting point is 00:36:43 And then Bo Nix, multiple big third downs, big second and eight that basically sealed the game. And unlike the Raider game and unlike the Eagle game and unlike some of these games, Bo Nix has played, where through quarters he's skipping balls and his feet are all off. He just doesn't look comfortable. Today, even in his incompletion, he looked much more comfortable. It doesn't mean he's not going to have negative plays, but he looked like a different player
Starting point is 00:37:13 than the guy that we saw, whatever, 10 days ago against the Raiders. where he was just all over the map and balls were flying up, down, and all around. It was like, this is not a sustainable way to play quarterback. Today was. And obviously, in a big spot, in a tie game against, they're technically not the defending champs, but to the Broncos they might as well be. I mean, you're playing a team that is one-year division for, what, seven or eight straight years. They've gone to five of the last six Super Bowls.
Starting point is 00:37:43 They're the fucking Kansas Sea Chiefs. And even, I think they mentioned this on the broadcast. Like, Sean Payton's been talking about this team since the moment he took this job. They're the big bad wolf. They're the team you're chasing. And they're the team that, you know, last year they had an opportunity to beat this team and the field goal got blocked. And the Chiefs were incredible in these one-score games.
Starting point is 00:38:04 And still this year, like at the end of the day, the downfall of this team. And I think right now I was looking at their schedule earlier today. they'll probably end up going 10 and 7. But the downfall of them was blowing the game to the Chargers, definitely the game to the Jags. Like, if I told you at the beginning of the year, you know, the Chiefs are going to go 12 and 5. One of their losses, you would have been,
Starting point is 00:38:29 I can see them losing on the road to Denver. Like this is one of those you're doing win-loss game. And I say, hey, they win 12 games. This might be one of the games where you put an L next to it. This is not a bad loss. Losing on a last second few, field goal to the best defense to a team in your division on the road, not that weird. The problem is when you have dropped some of these weird games throughout the season,
Starting point is 00:38:52 this game really bites you in the ass. And then you look up and you got the Jags just curb stomping the chargers. It's a little problematic. But I don't view the Chiefs as a bad team. They just, like the thing that went for them last year, all the one score games, is now working against them. and they got into a spot where it's must win in the middle of November on the road at Denver. Now, must win to win the division.
Starting point is 00:39:20 They're not going to win the division this year. And to me, it's like they've won it a bunch of years in a row, and they've earned it. I mean, they've been a dominant team. And this year, like, this is not going to happen. I'll tell you this, though. If they're the seven seed, that sucks for the two seed. Not saying that they won't lose in the first round. But that would not be the first team.
Starting point is 00:39:44 Like, meanwhile, the seven seed in the NFC is going to be the 49ers with absolutely nobody on defense or like the Chicago Bears and Caleb Williams who are just winning the wildest games you've ever seen against not good teams. So I just think, and that's not to, I'm not shitting on the bears here. But props to Denver Broncos, that was a massive, massive win. I do want to mention something really quick about Kevin O'Connell, but before we do, I do need to tell you about my friends, my partners, the official ticketing app of this podcast game time.

Starting point is 00:42:50 What's the news, name? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts.
Starting point is 00:43:03 We're starting a trend. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers.
Starting point is 00:43:22 This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title. for the podcast.
Starting point is 00:43:37 But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. Starting point is 00:47:00 as we navigate Midlife's most fantastic BS. All of a sudden I'd had hanginess happening on my own. I was like, what the hell is that? I was married when I had her, so I didn't even consider how empty that Ness was going to be. Mood swings, night sweats,
Starting point is 00:47:18 Fupa's, sex drive. Wait, what sex? Dating at 45. How can it be getting naked at 50 with the new guy? That one's kind of hard. Well, that's lighting. They say we can't polish a turd, but we're sure going to try. So let's get blunt with laughs, tears or tears of laughter, and dive into
Starting point is 00:47:33 it unfiltered and unbothered and ask, how hard can it be? I cannot believe I'm about to say this out loud in public. Listen to How Hard Can It Be with Diana Maria Riva as part of my Cultura podcast network available on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I got to get the Bears credit because historically, they've been no different than the Cardinals, the Titans,
Starting point is 00:48:05 the Bengals, they love the Chargers pre-Jim Harbaugh. they like a coach that doesn't cost much money. And typically in the NFL, you get what you pay for. Well, last year, they gave $13 million to Ben Johnson. And he has been fantastic. And today, he put on full display like, Hey, guys, I'm a better coach than Kevin O'Connell. And people think I hate Kevin O'Connell.
Starting point is 00:48:33 Hell, people think I hate the Bears. People think all sorts of stuff that's just untrue. I have nothing against either. Kevin O'Connell seems like a great guy. He's obviously a good coach. But he does have a fatal flaw. And Ben Johnson, for being a younger, kind of innovative guy, is actually an old school football guy at heart.
Starting point is 00:48:53 You know why? He wants to run the ball. I think a perfect game plan for him would be like 45 rush attempts. A perfect game plan for Kevin O'Connell would be like 50 pass attempts. The problem for Kevin O'Connell is he has a guy that can't really complete passes. And when you're going to call pass after pass, especially deep passes, which he clearly struggles to complete, he threw another interception on a go route today. I think last week he threw two on post routes.
Starting point is 00:49:24 Today he threw one on a go route. Stop calling those routes for the guy. And I got a lot on social media that, John, it's not on the coach. We got to find out if JJ can swim in the deep end. It's time to even find out, can he keep his head above water or is he going to sink? There's some truth to that, but in the reality is you were just trying to win the game today against Chicago Bears. And the best tactic to win the game against Chicago Bears today would be to call some more
Starting point is 00:49:52 runs, because your guy, when it came to passing the ball, was all over the bleeping map. Even on basically outroutes to Justin Jefferson, there was one pass that he could have been Shaquille O'Neal with Kevin Garnett on his shoulders, and that ball still would have gone over both their heads. J.J. McCarthy is not very good at football right now, relative to the NFL. And what Kevin O'Connell is asking him to do is something that he can't do. And that's carry the team from a passing standpoint. Caleb Williams can be very hit or miss with that. You know what Ben Johnson did earlier this season? Like, hey, Caleb,
Starting point is 00:50:31 I'm not going to ask you to do what they were asking you to do last year and throw the ball 40, 50 times a game. we are going to run the ball. And when all else fails, I'm going to call another run. Now, you're going to have to make some plays, and Caleb is scrambling around like it's pretty incredible to watch. He is tossing guys. He is breaking tackles like he's Ben Rothersberger or Cam Newton. But Google how big those guys were.
Starting point is 00:50:57 Caleb's like 6'1. But his strength, I mean, we talk about how he's built. Guys can't sack him right now. I mean, you better get two guys on him if you want. want to bring him down because if it's one guy, he's shaking him off and he's scrambling away. Like, Caleb Williams looks like Ben Rothesberger compared to J.J. McCarthy. But today, I saw one guy who knew his team strengths and weaknesses, who knew his player's strengths and weaknesses and was desperately trying to win a game. And I saw another guy who just
Starting point is 00:51:27 calls plays like he always calls plays. I'm calling passes. That's what I do. I call passes. Hey, hey, Kevin, you're averaging over five yards of carry here in the first half. I don't care. We're the rock. Well, you're not going to win that way. And then it's like, well, JJ had the final drive for a touchdown. That's great. But what about the rest of the game? It was remarkable that the Vikings were even in that game. It honestly speaks to Brian Flores, who's done a hell of a job. And their defense was playing their ass off today. But holy moly. Now, listen, obviously they had some drops. Addison had a couple. Hawkinson had one bad one. Also made some plays. Jefferson had a bad drop. I think at one point in time in the game
Starting point is 00:52:08 they had five or six, so they had some drops. But last week, the Bears had some drops. It's football. You're going to have some drops. It's just the relentless nature of calling the passes to me. It felt like insanity watching it. And listen, I'm a guy who's my time in the NFL was around Andy Reed, like calling past place too. But sometimes you need to settle your player down.
Starting point is 00:52:31 And the only way to settle the quarterback down, just to call a handoff. just let everyone take a deep breath. And he tried, he would do it a couple times. He'd be like, fuck this. Jordan, Justin, run a deep comeback. Run a post route. It's like, bro, this is not going to work.
Starting point is 00:52:48 So I thought today, listen, everyone is going to take a giant dump on J.J. McCarthy in his career. And listen, some of it's definitely fair. But the coach now, we saw it last year with Sam Darnold in some of the big games. You're seeing it this year. He cannot pivot off his pass. And he just doesn't want it. And he's shown like he won't. Like it's not even that he just, he refuses to.
Starting point is 00:53:12 And when all of fails, he's just going to call pass play. A couple things before we get out of here. I spent a lot of time on Saturday with my dog on the couch. Just ordering DoorDash, slamming Gatorades, finishing at 10 of zones, and just watching football. Watched a lot of football. And I had two big take. Just this is a couch scouting me.
Starting point is 00:53:38 No longer a guy banging all 22. Just watching games like most fans on a Saturday afternoon. Jeremiah Love, the running back for Notre Dame, is an elite running back prospect. Now, we saw last year Ashty Genty get drafted six overall. You knew where I stand. I thought it was kind of crazy. Not that I didn't like the player, but I didn't think, one, it's like, I understand the draft.
Starting point is 00:54:03 You can only take the players in that. given class. I was just like, I struggle taking this running back because I didn't put them in the category of like the last seven, eight years. There were three or four guys that were just elite prospects. Seguan Barclay, Christian McCaffrey, Bejohn Robinson. Obviously, Seekwan was two. I think those other two guys were both eight. I would put Jeremiah Love directly in those guys. You could put Gibbs in those guys category as well, right? They traded back from six to 12 and took him at 12. and even Brad Holmes said, if we couldn't have made the trade, we would have taken him at six. And if they had taken him at six, no one would be complaining.
Starting point is 00:54:41 So I would put Gibbs in kind of that world. Love is just elite. I mean, he's the total package. And I think if this was 1998, he would be in the mix to be the number one overall pick. If Ashton Genty can go six overall in a draft, this guy could go like negative five. To me, he's in a different class than Genty. So I just think this guy He's the total package
Starting point is 00:55:08 That's what Bijan was You know Sequin his hands can be a little hit or miss But he's such a good back And speed was so elite Obviously McCaffrey Just does everything so well He's basically like the white version of Marshall Falk Or Ladanyan Thomason
Starting point is 00:55:24 And in Gibbs is like this explosive Explosive version of I don't even know He's like his own unique player but I think Jeremiah Love is just a special, special talent. And I've watched a lot of college football. To me, he's as good as anyone that's playing right. I put him and Jeremiah Smith as the best two offensive players.
Starting point is 00:55:47 And speaking of offensive players, I understand why we do this, and I'm guilty of this too of like, hey, these are the top quarterbacks, these are top quarterbacks, and guys have a good stretch and you play at a big program. We talk about you. but I've seen a lot of like mock drafts and just people like, hey, could Ty Simpson, the Alabama quarterback, go to the Jets, go to the Cleveland Browns, go to one of these quarterback desperate teams, and help change the course of their franchise? And my response after watching him the last couple weeks, the second half last week against LSU, they started hitting him and he looked terrible. In Oklahoma yesterday in the second half with Brett Venables absolutely worked him.
Starting point is 00:56:28 and I'm not trying to shit on it, Ty Simpson. I think he's played really, really well. And I'm really impressed because my expectations after the first couple weeks were not very high. But he's done well. But historically him, like that specific player went, I don't know, fourth, fifth round. And now we talk because the quarterback inflation,
Starting point is 00:56:53 these guys going in the first round, it's insane. I mean, once upon a time, Guys like Kirk Cousins and Dack Prescott went in the third and fourth round. Dak Prescott had Mississippi State. People forget this. At one point in time, they were competing to be the number one team in the country his senior year. Cousins had like Michigan State have the greatest stretch of program history with Dan Antonio. But those guys, no one's like, oh, that guy should go like pick six.
Starting point is 00:57:25 No one talk like that. and I think Ty Simpson, because everyone's like, oh, we need a quarterback, we need a quarterback. Yeah, in the fourth round, he'd be fine. And maybe he could be a starter, maybe he'd be a backup. Who knows? But first round, top five, are you guys on crack cocaine? So I think we need to be very, very careful because watching these quarterbacks over, you know, as they start playing conference play and better players, especially the SEC guys.
Starting point is 00:57:52 You know, you see Lenore Sellers, you saw this with Garrett Nussmeyer early in the season. It's like they start get exposed, and none of these guys are changing your franchise. None of them are. And definitely none of them are worth a top five, top ten pick. Some of them should go back to school. Some of them should just stay. Some of them jump off the base. It's like Jeremiah Smith.
Starting point is 00:58:12 We should have a rule once a year. You should apply, and like the GM should vote. Like, hey, do I need to come back for my junior year or can I just go pro? It could have happened with like Parsons and Jamar Chase and Penae Sewell that one year with the vid year when they all opted out. But like every once in a while you get a guy that's like a true sophomore, it's like, yeah, there's no point in him staying.
Starting point is 00:58:33 And I don't want like these guys to be able to come out to the NFL whenever because I do think in football, physical league, boys developing, like it makes sense. But Jeremiah Love like, or I mean, Jeremiah Smith doesn't need to stay. Like the GMs should be like, give an exception, he's cool. But I just think you watch Ty Simpson and then you go, I just, I don't see it.
Starting point is 00:58:58 I don't see it at all. I don't see it with any of these quarterbacks besides maybe the kid at Indiana. Dante Moore's pretty damn good. Obviously, he has a big game this week against USC. And I also think you're going to see all these guys are going to be in the playoffs. And we'll see when they play the best teams and the best defenses. And this is where you've got to be very careful.
Starting point is 00:59:19 Like, there's no hype in the NFL. Right? Like, Bo Nix was shitty last week. He was good today. There's no hype. the good or your bad, right, on a weekly base. Like, J.J. McCarthy had a good fourth quarter once against the Bears ever since it's been terrible. It's like, objective takes. We're in college because they're young, guys improve,
Starting point is 00:59:37 there's just like, hey, what this guy can be. This guy can improve a lot. It's like, okay, Arch is kind of gaining some momentum. And then he plays Georgia. It's like, well, he's actually pretty good early on. He's definitely improved. And I was an arch critic just because the hype on Arch was so outrageous, I felt like I had to fan the flames a little bit. I had to grab my hose and put out, you know, kind of the, just the growing momentum of like, this guy's going to be the number one overall pick, win the Heisman, be the greatest player we've ever seen. It's like, guys, he's never even started against a real opponent, right? This was in like, in June. And now it's like, okay, we just, we got a little time. And who knows? You know, Arch, you give him another
Starting point is 01:00:20 offseason. Maybe he can improve. I would kind of bet, against it. But listen, I'd never bet against like a 19 or 20 year old. It's going to happen all the time. And it's going to happen to a lot of guys you've never heard of, right? Backups that are going to become starters and then go to the NFL. But the guys that are playing right now, I think if I'm a Browns fan, if I'm a Jets fan, do not look for one of these guys to be Peyton Manning or Andrew Luck or Joe Burrow and just flip your franchise overnight because I'll promise you it's just not going to in this class. Before I get out of here, actually, let me switch up and reverse it.
Starting point is 01:00:58 Hard Rock bet, my friends. Monday night football, which is just, are they messing with us? We got the Cowboys at the Raiders. I put together a little parlay. I feel like everyone's going to take the Cowboys in this game, which makes sense. I mean, the Raiders are terrible. Monday Night Football, as the year goes on,
Starting point is 01:01:18 it does feel like you're going to get some upsets. A couple years ago, I think it was the Giants against the Eagles. We've just had weird games late in the C. You just never know. I'm taking the Raiders plus three. I'm taking Ashton Gentie. Wouldn't shock me if Ascenti has a big game tomorrow. Cowboys' defense stinks.
Starting point is 01:01:34 Though they have added a couple defensive linemen. And C.D. Lamb, both those two guys anytime touchdowns, pay six to one. So I'm taking the Raiders plus three. I'm taking Genty, and I'm taking C.D. Lamb, Hard Rock bet. A little three-leger there. This time, official. Have a good one.
