See why Cormier says that Nickal "misunderstood" his criticism, and why he needs more experience before becoming a UFC champion and fighting Khamzat Chimaev. Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Hey guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin. And I'm Nick. And guess what? We created our own podcast called, Hey Jonas.
Starting point is 00:00:12 We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions. Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it. But, you know, tired and sick. Tired and sick.
Starting point is 00:00:26 Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you. you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the ice.
Starting point is 00:01:00 Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Michelle McPhee, and I've been unraveling the strangest criminal alliance I've ever reported on, a Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the Aihar Radio.
Starting point is 00:01:30 Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind. And nobody's telling you exactly what happened. That's where SportsSlice comes in. I'm Timbo. In every episode, we're cutting through the noise, breaking down the biggest moments in sports
Starting point is 00:01:48 and giving you the real story behind the headline. And we're going straight to the source, the athletes themselves, their locker room stories, their reactions in the moment, and the stuff nobody gets to hear. Listen to Sports Slice on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more, follow Timbo Sliced Life 12 in the TikTok podcast network on TikTok. Hey, what's good, y'all?
Starting point is 00:02:10 You're listening to Learn the Hardway with your favorite therapist and host, Kear Games. This space is about black men's experiences, having honest conversations that it's really not safe to have anywhere, but you're having them with a licensed professional who knows what he's doing. How many men carry a suit or armor? It signals to the world that you not to be played with. And just because you have the capability that does not mean that you need to. Listen and learn the hard way on the AHA radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. The volume. All right, guys, it's November 20th.
Starting point is 00:02:53 I'm finally home. So you know what time it is. That means it's a new three rounds for you. So I'm excited. As always, guys, we have been on an absolute mission. But it feels good to be home. And it feels good to be right back to business. So if the travel was the training camp, it's time to get to the fight.
Starting point is 00:03:13 Let's go. Round one. So, Bo Nickel is a bit upset with the commentary during the fight last week. So I got to be honest. This one kind of took me a little bit by surprise because I do like Bo. And I do believe that at some point he's going to be a champion. but Bo said that he took offense to the commentary, but I think he's a little misguided.
Starting point is 00:03:48 So this is what he said. He said that when he watched a fight back, something that was a little disappointing was the commentary and just kind of hearing the way that they were looking at the fight. So to hear things like D.C. say, oh, he's not ready for Hamzat. I think he was trying to be respectful. This is Bo being Boe because he's a,
Starting point is 00:04:08 a nice kid. But I also think like maybe they were trying to set me down the peg. It was just weird to hear. But I just feel like people that I know that are in my corner and would give me honest, genuine feedback, they're very happy with the victory. I was happy with the victory. So that's what I really care about at the end of the day. But it was a little disappointing to hear some of those comments from people that I respect a lot. You know, when I read this to you guys, I think about Bo I think about talking to Bo
Starting point is 00:04:44 I think that he's a respectful guy so he's trying to say things in the nicest way that he possibly can but I think he may have misunderstood what we were trying to do right what I'm trying to say what I was more trying to say in this fight is let's not rush him
Starting point is 00:05:06 into fights with people that are much more experienced, much more battle tested, much more ready to compete at the highest level because it feels like one of those situations where a young guy who has shown so much promise gets a little bit fast-tracked. You know, we have seen this time and time again
Starting point is 00:05:29 where an athlete comes onto the scene, they do so well initially, that they get overwhelmed because you don't know what to do with them. Guys, it's a big jump from Bull's first opponent to Val Woodbine to Paul Craig. To Paul Craig. That is how good he has done in that short period of time that they have already jumped him to a guy that has beaten a world champion and has already submitted the number one contender I'd like heavyweight. It felt like one of those situations where Bo Neckle was going to get fast track and he was going to find himself over.
Starting point is 00:06:07 overwhelmed and over his head and then not be able to help it. Both started on this thing and the whole time. Because when you run side to side or parallel to another guy around your age with the same type of style with the same type of hype, it is inevitable that they will compare you. People have already started to compare him to Hamzaa Chayyah. How do they stack up? Can he wrestle him?
Starting point is 00:06:32 Can he do this? Can he do that? That's not a real thing. That's not a real thing. thing. I'm not saying he's not ready for Hamzat because I don't think he ever will be ready for Hamza. Right now he just isn't. You know what's the craziest thing? After this weekend, right after the fight, people called me and said I was a bow apologist. I was being apologetic for his performance, almost making excuses for him. That's crazy because it's odd that a fighter can
Starting point is 00:07:06 interpreted so much different than other people in the world. In the world, I thought he did really good. But I wasn't the only one that had reactions. Chale said that the gripe is that you have a four-time wrestle world champion. He doesn't wrestle at all because someone told him, one of his trainers or a partner sat him down and said, you're not ready to go to ground with this guy. Well, how would you know?
Starting point is 00:07:33 How in the F would you know if you've never tried it? is he even questioned the approach. He said it's a boring fight. That's all. He's letting it get away. Even when he hurt his opponent, he's not comfortable on the feet. He looks good striking, which I agreed with, but he's not comfortable. He doesn't know how to close.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Even if Bow would have faked a takedown that would have allowed for him to finish the fight. Guys, Bo Neckle has now seen the opposite side of fame. I wonder how he's going to handle negativity coming in this direction. I wasn't negative. I have no problem with Bo Nicol. I believe he's going to be fine. I don't have a problem with the performance. I thought he fought really well.
Starting point is 00:08:15 But there's room for improvement. Everybody said it. Let's just take our time. We don't need to rush him. That's all I'm saying. That was a tough round. Bo Nicol came out swinging, but it's okay. Guys, round two, this whole time asked for all John Jones thing
Starting point is 00:08:39 for lack of a better word, it's just weird. For me, it's just weird. Like, I don't get it. I don't understand it. I don't know why this is happening. Am I living in an alternate universe? We are talking about John Jones.
Starting point is 00:08:56 So after this weekend, he defeated Steve Amy Ochitch, as you would expect. He is the bell of the ball. But as you would also expect, the moment the fight was over, all people wanted to talk about, was Tom Aspinall
Starting point is 00:09:11 because that's all they talked about leading up to the fight. Joe rolled his steps into that octagon. He started speaking to John Jones. It sounded like Jones may be open to the fight. It sounded like he was warming up to the idea. I think it was the reaction from the press conference. It was the amount of people saying,
Starting point is 00:09:29 Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom, Tom. John felt like he wanted to prove them wrong. But when he got to the press conference, he switched it up again, saying, quote, He's annoying to me. That's my own personal opinion. He annoys me,
Starting point is 00:09:45 Jones said of Tom Aspinall. He annoys me, Jones said about Tom Aspinall and saying, Aspinall saying he was afraid to face him. John goes, I get that you guys find it entertaining, but I find him annoying.
Starting point is 00:10:00 I just don't like him at the end of the day. If I give him the opportunity to fight me, I want to be compensated. I want to say it. I want that fucking. you money. Honestly, that's just what it is. John Jones shooting straight. This is a different situation for Jones. Because at the end of the day, guys, I will tell
Starting point is 00:10:21 you, he's not afraid. Tom Aspinall to John Jones is just another guy that he would fight and that he believes he can beat. That's just the truth. But what he does want is to get paid. And I think he recognizes the dangers in the fight. To give him that fight. I mean, when this line opened, John Jones was an underdog. John Jones was the underdog. I don't even know if there's ever been a time in his career
Starting point is 00:10:50 where someone has been favored to beat John Jones. And I think that concerns him. That concerns him. That to Jones raises some questions, right? Because for as many fights as he's had, he's always been thought to be the better guy. this guy, Tom Aspinall, is the first time that someone says there is something in him that we will open a line where John Jones is not the better guy out there.
Starting point is 00:11:18 For a guy who's never had to answer those types of questions, it's hard for him, hard for him. Guys, Aspinall is a great fighter. But I would not be so certain that he's just going to beat John Jones. Nobody's done it. Nobody's done it. And honestly, after, watching him this weekend, I don't know how people wouldn't feel more like John would be a problem for Tom Aspinall.
Starting point is 00:11:46 Just a lot of weapons that heavyweights don't see every day. While John was more, I'm done with him. Tom seemed very excited after sitting with Dana and Hunter. He was happy when he walked out of that room. I don't know what they spoke about, but whatever they did, it gave Tom home. hope, but then John goes to the press conference that goes, I'll give away the belt. I'll fight somebody else.
Starting point is 00:12:13 Tom believes that the unknown may be too much for John Jones. John Jones is a big time studier of footage. But all the footage that Tom has is him beating people up. So he thinks that that advantage, that thing that John relies on so much
Starting point is 00:12:34 is gone. It's gone. He thinks that is why John Jones is hesitant to fight him. Guys, I know that this sport moves fast. And every time we're on to the next thing, but very rarely, very rarely, does a guy demolish the heavyweight greatest of all time and is immediately asked about a challenge that's even bigger, even bigger. For as good as Jones looks Saturday, the main thing was,
Starting point is 00:13:05 how does you do against Tom? I'm interested to see how this all plays out. I don't know what will come of this. But what I do know is, and what I do believe, guys, is that ultimately we will get this fight. And you'll see Tom Aspinall versus John Jones. I just don't know if the winner is going to be what you guys expected to be. But it could be, but we will see.
Starting point is 00:13:30 I'm experienced Oh, boy, one of my stool. Pour water in my face. I want you to take the towel, fill it with water, throw it in my face. The boy got knocked the round
Starting point is 00:13:46 a little bit in that second round. But I'm back. I'm a fighting champion. I get off the stool and I fight. So I'm ready for round three. Guys, Jake Paul fought Mike Tyson last weekend. It was an absolute
Starting point is 00:14:02 monster of an event. A, monster. It absolutely killed it for Netflix. Killed it for Netflix. So many people tapped in. They had 71,000 people in an arena in Dallas, Texas to watch Mike Tyson at 57 years old by Jake Paul. Hey guys, I'm all for nostalgia. I'm all for nostalgia. Seriously, when they were doing the countdown and Jake's playing Mike Tyson's punchout, I'm all forward. I was locked in. But to have
Starting point is 00:14:40 71,000 people purchase tickets to go watch that shacks in the crowd, so many celebrities in the crowd, I get the older people wondering if Mike Tyson had another performance in him. We saw that it wasn't. I don't know why.
Starting point is 00:14:58 We are how we are. I'm trying to understand why it did. so well. I'm trying to understand why people, why people continue to buy into this. And when I say people, I do it. I stayed up till 1.30 in the morning in New York City knowing I had to work the next day to watch those fight in two-minute rounds. It's not like we got a real boxing match, three-minute rounds. We got two-minute rounds. I've heard, right, from sources that I will not name, that when Mike gets ready to make a fight,
Starting point is 00:15:36 there are a number of different things and rules and almost precautions that are taken to make sure that everybody's okay at the end of it. In terms of Roy Jones, Mike had to be very careful. Let's not hurt Roy Jones. If you're going to fight Mike here, it needs to be two-minute rounds. Or it needs to be 16-ounce gloves opposed to 10.
Starting point is 00:15:58 Those dudes fought out there with 14-ounce gloves to make sure nobody really got hurt. Why are we like this? why are we like this as people? Why? We got, I mean, they watched it. I watched it. We loved it.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I remember watching him walk to the ring going, oh my God, Mike Tyson's about to knock this dude. Out. Maybe I was hopeful. But I thought he would knock him out. It's crazy. But Jake Paul can actually box. It's time to give him credit
Starting point is 00:16:31 for the fact that this dude can actually box. Point blank, period. You know what was interesting to me as this fight got closer? When it first got announced, we were almost unified in the idea that Mike was too old. He shouldn't be doing this. He can't fight this kid. He's going to get beat. He might get knocked out.
Starting point is 00:16:52 And then as the fight got closer, we actually started to believe that Mike would actually win. Are we convinced ourselves that we're going to get to Mike Tyson from Brownsville? We saw Mike Tyson go to Brownsville. it was all perfect. I mean, perfect. And then we saw the training footage. So then we started to buy into the hype. But in reality, guys,
Starting point is 00:17:13 it literally turned out exactly like we expected it to. I mean, even Jake Paul said that late in the fight, he started to pull his punches because he didn't want to hurt somebody that didn't need to be hurt. You know, at the end of the day, we almost encourage this type of thing because we all watch it
Starting point is 00:17:35 because we love to watch things that are a bit odd 118 million people watch this event worldwide guys 60 million streaming it live so it tells you who we are no matter what you feel it was an overwhelming
Starting point is 00:17:53 success for Netflix but it's crazy to me right to watch it happen watch the fight me being up in the middle of the night watching these two days dude's fight. It's crazy to think that that many people tuned in to what many thought was a side show. So it makes me kind of question as fans, right? It makes me questions as fans.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Because I was with the bullshit. Like, I was actually with the bullshit, guys, from start to finish. It's crazy. What's up, guys? The NBA season is going crazy right now. And we are right in the middle of the NBA Cup. You can watch NBA Cup games every Tuesday and Friday. And guys, the games are crazy and the intensity has raised because it means something. I mean, these guys are all getting like a million dollar bonus if they win the NBA Cup. So everybody playing hard right now.
Starting point is 00:19:19 The NBA Cup is fun. So why not take part in it with the Draft King Sportsbook? In December, four teams will play for the title of the NBA in-season tournament champion. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it
Starting point is 00:20:41 one of the early names of our band before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast for people could call in and say, hey Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Starting point is 00:21:11 Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Starting point is 00:22:32 Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for greatness. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across. When Jacob met Levan this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive?
Starting point is 00:23:12 The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Starting point is 00:23:43 in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses.
Starting point is 00:24:06 Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth, or are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Kear Gaines,

Open your free, our heart radio app, Search learning a hard way and listen now. All right, now for my final thought. Last weekend, we said goodbye to one of the good ones. Steve Miochich retired after getting beat by John Jones.
Starting point is 00:24:51 He got beat bad guys. It was not competitive. And he recognized right away that his time has come and his time is gone and he retired. And he did it in the classic. way as you would expect from a classy guy like Steepi Miochich. He thanked everybody from his coaches to his family, his fans, even his opponents for helping him achieve such great things. You know, my greatest memory of Steve A will be sharing the Octagon with him three times.
Starting point is 00:25:26 He was one of the most fierce, toughest competitors I've ever had the opportunity to share an Octagon with. this guy's going to leave an amazing legacy in mixed martial arts and Steve Amy Ocho will be remembered forever guys just really top-notch guy I appreciate the success
Starting point is 00:25:48 that we had together the time's been in the octagon steep is going to be missed man it's kind of sad that it's the end of a legacy guys before I go Michael Chandler and Charles Oliverer fought
Starting point is 00:26:02 and I say said that Mike landed some rabid punches, guys, I kind of got to walk it back a little bit, right? And I think that's in part due to the rule. And that one inch stripped down the back of the head that Mike was not punching that directly. But I will make a longer video to explain and kind of talk about what I said. I have a big voice. And I have seen the reaction that people love giving Michael Chandler and I want to make sure that this man isn't thought to be a cheater. All right? I will make a video and talk about it more and dead with you guys.
Starting point is 00:26:44 Guys, thank you so much for supporting three rounds. I love each and everyone. Yeah, I think you guys are just the best. You guys are actually the best.
