We got miles to the Rams. We got even start players coming back that was injured last year. Can we talk about Travis Hunter? Okay, get into it. Right. He said he's still gonna play both sides. Me, if I was a head coach,

I would let him stick to defense. The reason why? The reason why, because if we think illogical, the money is on the defense side, right? So I want my man to get paid, but, and I know he's gonna be in shape, but damn, but it's only so much you could do, right? Imagine you garden, uh, Zay Flowers on a nine route. You gotta come back and run a nine route. Hell no. Yeah, hell no, coach,

coach, it's me, it's a business and I understand he's, he's, he's a right, right for, no, real shit. And I understand he's y'all key player, but yeah, think about the longevity for him, right? Do, wait, let me ask you, do you think that's a part of the reason why he got hurt? I know it was more of a contact injury, right? But do you think that like the wear and tear of the running on playing on both sides, you know what I mean? Because it is a different, you know, part of your body that you, as a DB, you're using, you know, a different mechanics receiver is way different than DB, right?

It's complete opposite, matter of fact, right? Like, do you think that that wear and tear had a part of, you know, his injury? I mean, I'm not a scientific. guy, I don't know. You're in a doctor. But not a doctor at all. But me being a player and understanding that the wear and tear we take on our body during the season, even in practices, right? And I think it's all there's so much the body could take. Just being real. I don't know, but he did, he digging a slow, right? He got a lot swore

because he couldn't use his little body. But to answer you a question, I'm not sure, Jalves. Yeah. I hope it works out for them. I feel like too, like can you ever be in enough shape? Like, you know, we talked about this on our last show about showing up to training camp, you know, and you still not all the way fully in football shape, right? Like, you know what I'm saying? Like I would say this is the part of the year where your body does look the best pause,

you know what I'm saying? Like now it's the time to post all your selfies, you know what I'm saying? It's the time. This is one of the best times of the year that your body's going to look like is going to look. you know i don't think there is enough training that can get you in football shape leading into training camp or leading into the season right away right yeah that alone that alone being able to say that you're going to play both sides of the ball right so i know the head coach Liam came out

and say that he's definitely playing both sides of the ball and i don't blame him for saying it i would say if i was the head coach i would say you know what yeah he's playing both sides of the ball but in reality in my mind, he's only playing defense for us. But if teams are going to prepare for us as a team, I want them to think and know, you know, I want them to start planning for having 12 on the offensive side of the ball as well. You know what I mean? Because he is a threat.

You know, having them in a field in any position he is a threat. So, you know, I would come out, especially at this time of the year saying, yeah, he's going to play offense to the ball. He might play quarterback. He's going to be the kicker too. Any way he can make impact. Huh? Kicker. partner long snapper anywhere we can get the ball in this kid hand he is a threat so i would at this

time of the year i would say the same thing that coach said i think he said to the right thing obviously he's coming off of lcl which you know they're going to be monitoring them throughout training camp and and all that stuff right but i do think as a defensive player he has the biggest impact i do think yeah he does he does sprinkle some things in there for him on the offense side of the ball you know last year if he play 40%, I want to take that back down to 15%. I want to take all of his offensive snaps back down. And now I want to put him on the field. If I'm honest, I want to put them on the field on special teams,

part return, you know, kick return here and there. If our team needs some energy, need some juice, we need some life, need a play. Put 12 in, let them spin. You know what I'm saying? That's how I feel about how they should handle it. But who knows? We will see. Yeah.

Also, man, I know the injury process is aggravating, right? So hopefully he comes back, his mental straight. He's at 100%. Yeah. He's moving the way he was moving before, doing the things he knows he's capable of doing. So Travis, you know, I know we've been kind of hard on you because me personally, I want you to be hard on. Listen, I want you to be healthy, right? I want you to finish this season 100% and the naysayers.

the people that don't believe you can play both sides if you won't do it show up prove prove me wrong my question is this lennon does he play training camp does he play does he play any preseason games this year if you are the head coach should and run manager are you letting Travis hunter play any preseason snaps this year at all listen got to get game shape at some point right i say this we we played in preseason time Brady played in preseasoned game mm-hmm yes you got to put them you got to put them out there to make sure everything is everything he's still doing what he's doing he's still gonna be number 12 he still could be Travis and I and I and I said you

put him out there for two series two years yeah too that's a lot not it's not because it's football at the end of there yeah it is you're right you're right and I and I guess we will see I would say this I know I had hip surgery in 2019 and I didn't play preseason. And thank God that I didn't play preseason that next year coming off of injury because, you know, as much as I was ready, I definitely think that I needed as much time away from the physical brute contact of the game as possible.

We opened that season that year against Baltimore, and I had a pretty decent game, right, coming off of injury. And I felt good. I felt the same, you know, I felt like I still had the same level of, confidence, you know, especially coming off an injury, right? You know, you come off an injury, like, and that goes to how I was practiced, how I practiced, how I practiced, how I was engaged. You know what I mean? Like, that all goes into that. So it'll be interesting to see how they handle, you know, his progression, what, as he comes back, right? I don't think in preseason,

I think you got to, you know, you maybe, maybe they try to say, maybe they put him on one side of the ball for one game or for, you know, once he gets, he does get two series, one on offense, one on defense, right? And maybe that's, and that's it. You know what I mean? But I don't think he plays more than one game, but we shall see how that goes. It comes out like, hey, my body different.

I'm breeding different B. So you never know. Obviously, Trevor Lawrence would love to have him back. You know, Trevor Lawrence's first round draft pick, you know, a guy that has been paid by Jacksonville, who is the franchise quarterback, right? And a lot of talk around quarterbacks that's being taken in the first round. A lot of talk is around quarterbacks and the pressure that quarterbacks face.

You know, and we talk about it with the Mendoza kid a little bit, right? Where, you know, he's a first pick, right? They bring cousins in on a bridge deal, you would say, right? You know, do you think Mendoza is another one? Like, you know, how much does he play in the preseason? Is he getting to start this year, right? you know, like how do you think the Oakland Raiders handle his process, right? Another young guy, you know, how do you think that that happens?

What do you think? Well, I don't know. Word has it. They want Kirk Cousers to start the entire season, which to me is not bad. All the reason why, because we're going to be going to go back to Patty Mahon, who didn't play his first year, who kind of had the circumstance that happened to kind of put him in that position. And I think the NFL teams are understanding now

because they've seen so many failures when it comes to the number one picks or they become bust like they'll say they say bus and the quarterback position is a different position, right? Where they're understanding defenses or understanding the entire offense. He got this, he got that. And maybe when they have Mr. Thomas Brady

up there being in that front office, or being the ownership of the of the of the raiders it's going to help him because yeah I believe I mean he's the number one pick should he start I don't know I mean I don't know because I think they're in to winning longevity it's there longevity now they're thinking about the future because he is the future and maybe take a take a few games I don't know maybe we until week 10 week 11 right let him get some some on his belt where he's learning from Kurt Cousins? Because guess what? Kurt Cousins is not bad at all. Not a slouch. He's not a slouch at all. And I believe Kurt can win.

Yeah. But at the end of the day, you have to protect your asset. He's the number one pick. He's the asset. He's where the money is at. He is the future. And I think the NFL is taking a different protocol right now. Let them learn instead of throwing them in a fire because we've seen documents with number one picks and what happened to them. You know, by them not understanding in the game or it was too much for them or mentally. Too fast and mentally it's just their brains couldn't pause. The brains couldn't comprehend the game or get the speed of the game. Yeah, I think I'm indifferent about it, right?

And you mentioned it, you know, Tom Brady has been vocal about saying that he's been working with, you know, Fernando Mendoza, obviously having a guy like Kirk Cousins in the building, you know, who I believe should get the start, right? You know, I think the Mendoza kid, when you look at the landscape of his position, he is in one of the best positions. Any young quarterback has been in, and I said this before, and I'll say it again, has been, he has two Hall of Famers to lean on. Yeah. Two Hall of Fame, two future Hall of Famers. Tom Brady's not in there yet, right?

But he has two future Hall of Famers to lean on. And I think that that's what makes his position so unique. and the possibility of him becoming a star quarterback in his league at a very young age, you know, it seems like it's tangible. It seems like it's very possible. I don't think that, I know you mentioned him coming in week 10. I don't think he should come in week 10 that late in the season. If we're already that late in the season, we got to ride it out and we know next year he's our guy, right?

And I think that that's what they should do, right? Even if you look at, you know, some of the top quarterbacks in our day and age, right, that, you know, you look at RG3, Jaden Daniels, have Ben Rottlesberger and Cam Newton, some of the only successful first pick quarterbacks in our league that we've seen, right? And imagine how many were taken. How many first, hundreds, hundreds in the history of NFL, right? So it's interesting to see how, you know, it plays out. I will say I'll be, I'm going to be excited to see clips of him in preseason. You know, I did think, and I told you this, the draft night, I did think Miami's defense when he was playing in Indiana had him shaky.

Yeah. He made the play on Fort Down where I was like, okay, you know, he got some ball in him. He got some gamer in him. But I thought his feet in the pocket were a little bit inconsistent. You know what I mean? He missed a couple throws. So it'll be exciting to see, right? You know, he's facing Max Crosby every day, bro.

You know what I'm saying? The rush of that defensive line, you know, that Oakland Raiders defense, you know what I'm saying? So I will be interested to see how he matures in the pocket to become a better facilitator, you know, to distribute the ball to his playmakers and let them work. And how much he, you know, continues to lead on Tom Brady and, and Kurt Cousins throughout the process, man.

So it'll be interesting. Um, do you like, we talk about this a little bit, you know, having a good backfill as a young quarterback is another good thing, right? How much do you like the gentry kid that's back there? Uh, I like them. Uh, I think, I think, wait, first of all, let's not skip up the O line. Last year, let's talk about this. Last year, last year, the Raiders gave up 65 sex. Damn.

That's a lot. That's a lot. That's a lot. How many say a lot? So I don't, maybe you're right. I don't know. I don't know about I should play them this year, right? Because I'm not sure did they do anything with the officer line?

Did they draft more office alignment or what is, what is, I don't, I'm not sure. I definitely think, I think they brought in some guys of free agents, free agency to kind of, you know, feel the need of a patch protection and run games, though. games though. So, so, you know, the past game, run the game, it goes hand-to-hand, it helps each other. So I think, I think once they find who they are as an offense, maybe they are running team. Right. And in the future, it will help out Mendoza. And as the right now, if we speak, it will help out Kurt Cousin. Yeah. So we'll see. And Kirk Cousin is a guy who's always leaned on the run. Kirk Cousins was the guy that, you know, every team he played for, under center, hand the ball off, hand the ball off, play action, fake pass.

You know, very big, very much a timing guy in a passing game, right, and Kurt Cousin play off rhythm. I think Mendoza can do the same things, right? It's going to be a little bit different. But, you know, he played in a similar pro-style offense or multiple type of offense when he was in college. So this transition shouldn't be too hard and complicated for him, but the speed of the game is going to be very much new to him.

We'll see how he handled it, you know what I mean? like now mind you i play with baker mayfield right out in cleveland baker mayfield first pick first round he did not play his first couple games tyrod tiller was our starter right and then baker mayfield came comes in game two game three and then the rest is history you know what i mean like so like i i understand the how important it is to for a guy to come in at that quarterback position and play right now and i've seen it the opposite way like how you refer to to Mahomes. How I'm telling you about Baker Mayfield who came in and braced being behind another vet like Tyrod Taylor, right? And Baker Mayfield to say this as well. Tyraud Taylor was

showing up to the building at 5 o'clock. Baker's like, damn, bro, I'm trying to beat Tyrod here, right? And it shows you that when you have a vet in front you, somebody who is a really student of a game and a worker of their craft, that it can push the guy, a young guy, like a Baker Mayfield who probably has never had that in his career, right? He's always been the guy, right? And to to be behind a guy and like Tyrod Taylor to learn, you know, how to get in the building first, maybe how to watch film, right? Yeah. You know, it really does help, man. So, you know, I, I know Baker was, you know, highly praised, you know, coming out of Oklahoma and rightfully so. He's in Tampa now and he's bawling. Yeah. You know, I saw him on a car.

quarterback's thing, you know, talking shit and I love it. And I was, and I tell anybody out there who's watching, he has been that way since day one. We've had a seven-on-seven compete in Cleveland. Man, he's talking shit to every D-B, every D-line coach, the D-line coach. He's talking shit to the D-line coach. Bro, to the trainers. You know what I mean? And like, you don't, you don't get that type of passion all the time from a quarterback, right?

But he had that since day one. So it's great to see that, you know, that's still in him. His love for the game, the way he competes is still there. And, you know, none of the fans get to watch it on Netflix, you know, which is a very cool thing that Netflix does. I love that they showcase it that way. What's your favorite, what's your favorite bigger, bigger story you have? Oh, damn.

It's so many. I think, I think the, I think the, the greatest moment that I saw wasn't even us playing together in Cleveland. And, you know, I think it was, I think it was the Ohio State game when like he took the flag and planted in the middle of the middle of the. And I'm like, yo, normally, you know, normally that's a D-Lyman doing that, you know what I'm saying. Normally somebody that could fight back, you know what I'm saying? In case it gets weird out here, right? But the star your team, your quarterback, it's like, no. I don't care where we are. I don't care who y'all are. I don't care who y'all are. we here to stay we winners and that and that for me I was like damn man not knowing at the time that I get a chance to play with Baker in Cleveland I'm like I look back at it and I'm like man he's everything that he was back then he's everything that and more now you know what I mean um you know what's it like for you like seeing him in Tampa right like balling out you know what I mean

like it must be a good feeling I know how much you love Tampa you want a Super Bowl there So I know you foreverly, foreverly tied to him. You know what I'm saying? Forever. Yeah. You know what I'm saying? I think what he's doing for the Bucks culture, especially at the position he's playing because, you know,

it's kind of hard playing that role at quarterback seeing what Tom does. But he's doing a great job of how he's handling, handling it, being a quarterback in Tampa. His teammates love him. Yep. The media loves him. And I think the culture wise, he's hard-nosed. even you've seen a certain bucket irvin run and bucket irvin broke it he's running down field blocking fun yes right you don't you don't see that out of quarterbacks nowadays but he's definitely

hard-nosed um my my only question is if the bucks don't resign them who will sign them that is somebody going to sign them yeah okay somebody going to sign them i don't think there's a question and i don't think that the bucks are in a position right now even to you know not pay a baker may field, right? You know how hard it is to have a stable quarterback, right? Yeah. It is tough. You know what I mean? And then you look at a situation where now you, you're putting young kids in a position that can set your franchise back when you have somebody that can hold your franchise down. So the buck's going to have a lot to think about, and I just hope that they don't screw it up. a hundred percent 100 percent listen bro chosen so where it is you're trying to get back in the lead right and you explain to us what's your day-to-day routine and how has it it's been for you mentally and keeping your fate each and every day, waiting on the call, doing the right things, working out. And how have you been mentally? I mean, I said, I feel like last year, that was a little bit more of a scenario. I was able to take, like, retake steps last year and kind of like, you know, resurface things through last preseason and then being with Washington last year.

So this year has been a little different. like my agent, you know, he has teens that's interested. So I'm just staying, you know, staying consistent, you know, knowing that that call is going to come and knowing how God works. And it's his time and keeping my faith, but also doing what I got to do to prepare myself to be the best version of myself when that time come. But also staying patient so I can make the right decision

where I can go and step in and contribute and not just jump on the wrong opportunity being impatient. and you know how things work through training camp and stuff like that. But you know, it's just me just trying to continue to find ways to get creative and get better with my craft and being in shape, being healthy and, you know, doing all the things it takes to be great. Mm-hmm. At, you know, you 31, you're 31, right?

No, I'm 33. 33, right? At our age, I'm 33 as well. So like at our age, right, especially for you considering that you're still playing, you know, playing days are ahead of you, right? Like, you know, making that direct, can you talk about what it's like and how much, not pressure, but like, you know, to, to try to make the right decision at this point in your career, right? Because if you look at players in our shoes, most times, more times than not, we're signing a one-year deal. Very rarely we get the three-year, four-year deal

after bouncing around a little bit, right? So making the right decision is the most important thing. Can you talk about, like, you know, what teams may be that, like, not that you have your eye on, but, like, will make the most sense for you to set yourself up for, you know, or how important it is to set yourself up for off of a one-year deal, perhaps, to, like, getting a two, three-year deal on the back end of your career, right? I think it's just seeing the landscape of knowing what my niche is as a player and seeing the landscape of what they might not have. And then obviously, me being a veteran, that's a, in an,

leader, that's a huge asset to them. So, but also knowing, okay, maybe if they took some younger guys early on, you know, the landscape of, you know, how that goes. So just sitting back, seeing how things play out and seeing where a need for my skill set and what I'm capable of bringing to the table presents itself. Yeah. And are you trying to get into a training camp? Are you just trying to like, how have it come?

How have it come? Yeah, I don't know. You know what I'm saying? Maybe, you know, maybe you want to get into training camp and show what you could do, right? Maybe you want to get into the training camp because, you know, we all know, we play ball at a high level. And training camp is really when you get an opportunity to build trust with the quarterback, you know, with the coaches, you know what I'm saying like that. So, you know, like, are you trying to get into a training camp?

Are you really just trying to let the season play out and see how, you know, guys go down every year? And the field is 100% injury rate, right? You know what I'm saying? Like, what's your process, like, from that perspective? I think the thing with me is, um, teams know I'm a professional. they know I'm going to show up and I'm going to be ready. So, you know, like I said, if the opportunity presents itself and it's for me to go and train the camp and everything made sense,

then, you know, I'm with it. I'm not afraid of the grind, but, you know, if I got to sit back and, you know, wait a little bit longer and let things play out, I'm perfectly fine with that too, you know, so I'm just leaving it in God's hands and, you know, letting faith be faith in doing my part of what I got to do and just staying patient and trust in the process. Okay, I like that. So look, brother, by you being 33, oh, are you,

looking for a team Super Bowl bound or is this really about you finishing how you want to finish? No, I mean, my goal always been to win a bowl, you know, but I think early on in my career, I kind of wasn't really seeing the reality of I wasn't on teams where that was reality and I was letting that create frustration. So, you know, one team going to win a Super Bowl and it's a lot that goes into that. Like, that would be a beautiful opportunity to go to a contender but, you know, I'm trusting that God going to put me where he need me most. So it might be that I got to go with these young dudes and show them how to be pros and go through the process, go through the mud or trying to build something to the bigger picture.

So, you know, I'm not trying to be too demanding or whatever and anything like that. But I do want to win a bowl. But I do want to finish, you know, and play ball. Yeah, I want to play ball and make plays and have fun doing it, you know. Would you go back to the Panthers or the Jet? Yeah, for sure. Really? Yeah, for sure.

I know, I ain't gonna lie. I got a different level of love for Carolina. Not there's like no, like, it's just different. You know what I'm saying? Like I got a different relationship there. You know, the ownership there, like, that's like family to me, you know. And I think that they're not too far from really pushing for that bowl, but going to the Jets would be just as lit too. And so she speak of Carolina, obviously when you played there, they had your boy from the crib, TB, Teddy two gloves there, right?

You have one of your best years, you know, since you had been in the league. Can you talk about like just y'all chemistry? You know, you spoke about the relationship and the vibe with the organization. But, you know, what was that year like, you know what I'm saying, playing with somebody from the crib? He'd getting you that rock. I think you had 136 targets that year, you know what I'm saying? Like you went for over Iraq. You feel me? Like, that ain't an easy thing to do, right?

Especially coming from another team to go to, you know, another situation where essentially is a new coach, new system and you still stepped in and balled out. You feel me? Like, can you talk about that a little bit? No, I appreciate that. Man, me and Teddy was like, we was just like in the backyard, just hanging out. We put in so much work that all season and we had such a good friendship where we was just out there just vibing.

You know what I'm saying? And that season was really one of my favorite seasons. And then even like with DJ and Curtis, it was like, we was just out there just hanging out, like in the huddle joking, breaking the huddle joking, like, just having fun. You know, it wasn't, you know, it wasn't really too much pressure on us. You know, we knew it was going to come. We trusted him. We knew he was going to get us the ball.

And we just, you know, had to go out there and win and have fun with it. Right. You know, there's like, there's speculation that Carolina was one piece away last year from And really, really playing an NFC championship, right? Obviously, they turned it on toward the backing of the season. I don't know how much you watched Carolina during that time. But, you know, they took the Rams to them overtime, you know what I'm saying? At home, right?

And one player away, Bryce Young, I think he's turned the corner, in my opinion. In the first couple of years, I wasn't sold. I think it's year three. He's going in the year three or four. I wasn't sold in the first couple years, right? Because, and again, like, you got to, and we talk about this for the Mendoza kid as well, but like, if you really look at it, it is hard for a quarterback, no matter what place you come from to go into a bad, not a bad organization, but let's just say a team that's not ready to win and try to be successful, right? But I think Bryce Young, you know, adding, again, I think you'll be a great fit in Carolina with some of the young weapons that they have there. You a vet that comes in that's played there, that's experienced there with the fans, with the culture.

it'll be great. Like, can you talk about, like, playing with Bryce Young? Like, that could look really good. But I think that could be a good fit, bro. Yeah, no, for sure. I definitely agree. Like, with them having young receivers that, you know, I can come in there, lead them, help them, you know, be that extension of the coach with player.

Did you ever see Sam Darnett winning a Super Bowl or leading a team to the Super Bowl? I mean, I won't sit here in line and say like I had that specific thought. You know what I'm saying? But I always knew Sam had a lot more in him than what was being seen. And I kind of behind the scenes knew what it was. it was just a development thing.

I said that for years, and he was a young player, but the thing like I always, anytime my speaker's saying what I always respected about saying was he was always about his business. You know, he was always about working. He was always dedicated and had a certain love and demeanor when it came to football and his work ethic. So I'm not surprised to see him succeeding at the level that he's at

because obviously he was taking so high in the draft for a reason with all that potential he had the success. But you know how it is. it's not always just you is what it's what's around you. And you know, you can't be great without a great team. Yeah. No, that's true. Did you feel like, did you feel like y'all, y'all Jets team was ready at that time, right?

Like, I feel like y'all had a lot of players that were young, right? You know, even yourself, like, you would say you were young at that time, right? Like, I remember playing you guys in Miami and we going through practice and, you know, they're doing the scout team reps and they're trying to portray you and the scout team reps. And the dude getting every time, every time we did the past play, the ball going to you, right? The ball going to you. And, you know, you play with Brandon Marshall, right? You play with Q. You play with a couple guys.

Like, can you talk about your receiver room back then? Like, do you feel, and maybe also as a team, like, did you feel like you guys were ready to, you know, win big, right? Like, as you've seen some of other guys' careers play out? Well, first I with the receiver room. You know, I stepped into a real good receiver room with Brandon, with Decker. And I think my first year, I kind of think that out of all the years I was there, that was our window. Because that year before, they were like a play away from the playoffs. And then, you know, we didn't have really many rookies playing a year.

That's how you know you got a good team. It was just me and a couple other guys. But my first year, I think, was the window. And then just me being a young player and seeing the dynamic of the team, like there was a lot of dysfunction going on. And in my opinion, just a lot of ego stuff and, like, selfishness. You know what I'm saying? And then from there, we kind of had to, like, restructure and rebuild. And then, like, the second and third.

The second year, I think we were pretty good. We just were a young team. But I just think that there was just a lot of, like, it wasn't a champion, all-around championship mindset throughout the entire team. There was, like, little bits and pieces. You know, we had talent, but we didn't have the complete structure, so to say. Yeah. And you think, like, the leadership?

Like, you think it was more of a leadership from a player's, perspective, you know, like a conable brother's keeper type of thing? Or was it, what did you feel like it was more of like now that we have this expectation of winning, we started losing sight of the smaller things that it take to get it done, right? Like we started losing sight of the walk-through reps. We started using sight of, okay, you know, I dropped the pass. I'm not going to get the extra rep. You know what I mean? Like was it was it? Because people don't realize, most fans don't realize people that play ball do, right? It's the small things that get you beat. Like it's not, it's not the big things that happen, you know, interception here or that, whatever, obviously, whatever, right?

But it's the misassignments. It's the play that was supposed to go for 60 or the play action pass that was supposed to go to chosen 80 yards down the field against cover four. He ran the post, right? And we didn't get, we didn't hit it. But we didn't hit it all week in practice. Like, did you feel like, you know, the level of expectation of winning started clouding the minute, small things or the detailed things? Or was it leadership? Or is it hard to pinpoint?

Like, I don't want to, you know, I don't want you. It's hard to pinpoint. I just think it was just the, wasn't the championship, like overall collective championship culture, in my opinion. I think that there was like some dudes that wanted to win, some dudes that might have just been happy to be there. And then some people that just, you know, they caught up in their own championship life. You know what I'm saying?

So I just think that's what it was. But like I know what like me, Jamal, like the younger, younger players, some of us, like, we were locked in a certain way then not to like play. I ain't placing no blame, but some of our leaders, you know, they were at a different point of their career too. So I just think it was just just overall, you know, obviously that organization has gone through transitions. And, you know, I just think it was just things like that. And then just inexperienced, you know, me being, me being a year.

I was a young player. A lot of us, we were young. We were still trying to figure things out. Young ballers, too, though. Y'all, y'all was hooping, bro. I ain't going to lie. Y'all was hooping, bro. I'm telling you, every time we played y'all in Miami,

whether we came to y'all or y'all came to us, like, we was like, yo, like, this is the one team in the division that, like, these boys don't seem like they better than this on paper, but, like, they got them ballers. They got them ballers, right? They got ballers. Speaking of ballers, you had a chance to play with Gary Wilson. No, no, no, I ain't played with Gary Wilson.

You didn't play with him at all? No. Okay. So do you think this is last year being a jet? Who, Gary Wilson? Yeah. Nah, I think he's going to be a jet for life. You think so?

Bro, I don't think he's going to be a jet for life. Even if they're not winning, though, like, you know, winning means a lot, right? And when I say that, you see Big Dex, big Dex left the Johns. We thought Dex's going to be a John for Life, right? And when the talent, to me, is not appreciated and y'all not winning, you see, listen, we see what Miles just did. Yeah. We thought he was going to be a bronze for life, you know what I'm saying?

Because he got paid a lot of money, but in hindsight, if you're not winning, because at the end of the day, chosen, and, y'all know one thing. It's all about winning. And that's all we want to do. We want to be a part of a winning organization, a winning team. We personally, I feel like this is going to be his last year, because we've seen a talent, you So he played with Irod. He played with some crazy quarterbacks, and he still did his thing.

Me, I think it's the last year with his justice. Chosen, it's also like this. So think about this. Think about this. Because in reality, he in a very similar situation that you was in, right? Where, you know, the organization is not winning. Me personally, I'm a dog, right? I really can't show the type of player that I can be in this organization.

Do I want to stay? Do I think he want to be a jet? Of course, I think every player naturally wants to stay on the same team that they got drafted to. I know I did. I wanted to stay in Miami, right? But there was a point where I'm like, damn, like, okay, if I want to have success that leads to wins, right? I need to be able to show what I could do out here, right? And that goes with how they bring players in, you know, doing free agency, how they drafting, right?

And I think the A-Rod experience was, and you tell me if I'm wrong, I ain't get a chance to play with no A-Rod, no Drew Brees, no Eli-Manny, you know what I'm saying? And you feel me? So like, and you either, right? So like, no Tom Brady, you know, Leonard, you know, a nigga caught 70 balls. That's crazy. Right? But like, but like, if you really think about it, it's like, if the A-Rod shit didn't work, what will? You know what I'm saying?

Like, you know what I mean? It might be time to mix it up. As a receiver, self-say, I feel like, man, I want to see them get out of there and go do something somewhere else. You know, that's how I personally feel. And don't waste his prime years. That's the biggest thing. Do not waste his prime years. And I don't want to get off subject, but chosen, like, for me and you, we kind of always had the known thing about our demeanor.

But all the thing we want to do is win, right? I can't, for the people that looked at you a different way when it came to your attitude, because like, to be honest, you, you way it calmer than what you used to be now, brother. I love that because I had the same demeanor, but it was all based on, it wasn't not no personal shit going on, but it's about my football career. Yeah. Right? By wanting to win, I think they drafted guys that didn't understand the picture of winning because

sometimes they do mess up the, the team. when you draft guys that's not used to win it in college. Yeah. So they're on this bitch, lilly gagging, they laughing and playing. When we know this shit got us out the hood, like this is all we got for right now. And in hindsight, other people that was on my team didn't see that. Can you tell us why they kind of misread you, your attitude and things like that? Well, I would say the man I am today like taking, you know, full ownership and accountability

was how I handled things, you know, how I went about situations. And it was a lot of times it was from a passionate place, but it's a time and a place in a way to communicate. And, you know, I had a lot of frustrations. And I always felt like I was, like, fighting things from my past. And you know what I'm saying? Like, those things kept following me, so to say, and I kept holding on to them. But just wasn't the most professional in certain settings at certain times, but it was always from a passionate place.

But then, you know, those that kind of know me, they know why and how I was feeling. Yeah. But in the world of the business of the NFL, that's not necessarily the proper way to demonstrate those things. But, you know, I was tired of losing. I was tired of feeling overlooked, knowing that I am an elite receiver, but, you know, certain things I felt was holding me back from that. But looking back in hindsight, the better way I would have wanted about it is just put my head down and just keep working and do more and take more control. Because that energy I was maybe complaining of being frustrated, that's more time I could have spent with God and trusting his plans and putting in the work or leaning into a good mentor and better environment. And that's a lot of things that I had to shake from was just my former ways of thinking in my past environments.

But, you know, ultimately, I don't look back at anything with regret because it's all shake me to who I am today. Definitely. You know, and I had to go through that process of life. And, you know, I'm thankful for God leading me where he's led me today because that's what brought me to peace. That's what brought me to calmness. I was trying to rely on things on my own too much. And even at times now, still being human, I might drift a little bit and do that. And then, you know, God got to check me.

And now, look, trust me, this is how we going to go about this, you know, talk to the right people, stay around the right environment. environments and, you know, just stay on that straight and narrow. Look, and by you saying, this is my problem, right? And you mentioned the mentorship. They didn't have no older guy that came, talked to you about anything to come grab you because I know when I was going to my phase and fucking up, I had plenty of older guys to come grab me. Like, look, it's not how it's done.

You know, just at the end of the day trying to understand the business, right? Were there anybody on either, any one of your team that tried to help? you because I know like some other guys could be assholes and not help you because they want to this their job. Like people, people that's friends who understand, they got, they got dudes out there that's not, that's not built right, like, on the real, they're not built right. And they want to see you lose. They don't want you to take their job. And at the end of the day, we all competing for a spot. But to me, that's not, that's not real man shit. You don't do that. You know what I'm saying? Like, you don't, you don't see another young guy coming

in. You know, he's trying to figure it out. and you're not willing to help him, to me, that's fucked up. Because every young guy that came under me, I've helped. It don't matter. Whether it's from the baby mama drama, from, you know, financially trying to understand where you want to be in life, a spending, spending habit, you're trying to play, this what you got to do. And I'm willing to help you, because guess what, we can't be competing at the day.

I know you're not going to outdo me, but as a man, as a guy for a man, my job is to help bro. People don't understand, but us just doing a little, just open a door for somebody that's helping. Right. Right. Picking up somebody that's helping. So can you explain to me, did they have somebody like older to help you in that area? Because I know that people being assholes that older guys too. Yeah, no, everybody like since I was going, especially at the Justin, like everybody always gravitated to me. Like I was like, you know, I was a little bro. You know what I'm saying? Only thing was when I went to Carolina, I was, it was like I was the vet in the room and I was only in year five.

So like year five and six, I ain't really have no vet. With year five, six and seven, I ain't had no vet. You know what I'm saying? And then like when Cam came back, you know, that was kind of my vet at that time and that had helped me a lot in that process. But that's where a kind of Carolina had those, like I had my coach, but, and my coach is like,

he's like an uncle to me, but you know how that is. Like, you know, that's your coach. Y'all going butt heads by stuff and that's just kind of our dynamic. But when I was at the Jets, I definitely had a lot of, a lot of people that, you know, put their arm around me, Matt Forte, Bilal, Pai, B. Marge, like, with the whole team, you know, so. But I definitely know what you're saying, though, because it, there is some dudes that, like, I don't have been in a situation, I don't see people tell somebody the wrong play on purpose.

You know what I'm saying? Like, just, just suck and stuff. You know how fate that is? Like, I am, me personally, and all my teammates, no, I probably would have to punch, I probably would have punched the piss out of that. I didn't know what I ain't want to say it, but, like, that's fake. But you can't, right? You know what I'm saying?

Like, you can't, right? You know what I mean? Because for one, you got to take a little bit of responsibility for yourself for not knowing to play, right? For two. But, my job is best be real, though. Like, you know as a rookie, you're trying to learn that shit, especially that while I receive it because y'all, y'all got way more shit than the

running back. You don't, you don't do no shit like that, though. And I just can't respect them about who play games like that. I feel like, listen, I had someone in Miami that was like that, right? But what it showed me is like, okay, I can't count on this person, right? And then what it also, now that I look back as I'm older, it's like, this is why we didn't win.

This is why we didn't, you know, have success as a group, nor as a team, right? Because we have selfish individuals, motives, what motives, right? You know what I'm saying? There's no way we both take the field. Obviously, I'm supposed to know my shit. Right. So I take, that's number one. I take my own accountability.

Number two is like, yo, but I'm out here, bro, like, do I have a slant or do I have a go? You know what I'm saying? Like, what helps the offense be successful? And when that get lost into a, in a picture, bro, it's hard for a team to win. You know what I'm saying? And then it also clause your judgment about trusting that person ever again, right? You know what I'm saying?

Not not people. People period. Right. Right. So not a vibe all messed up, right? Not a vibe. Now, I don't want to, I ain't trying to kick it with you in meeting. I ain't talking with you.

Yeah. I ain't fucking with you. At all, right? You know what I'm saying? So like I've been a part of both, right? And then I've also been in a situation where I went to Cleveland. and they had no leaders there. And people don't, and Chosen, maybe you could talk about this,

like how hard it is in a way, in a way to try to want to want to go out there and be the best player that you can possibly be, then also have to lead and change people, like, whole, like, mentality. That should drain it. Like, it really take a, it really take a total. especially when you're the only one, right? But it's something beautiful about when you could acknowledge and see that like, damn, like, man, man,

God chose me for this room for a reason. God gave me this to whom much is given, much is required this position for a reason, right? Even though it's draining, right? But at the same time, I remember being up in Cleveland and I'm like, man, like, oh, some of these dudes weak, bro. Like, some of these dudes ain't grew up how we grew up, like, where they were, like,

whether it was in Louisiana heat, the Florida heat, in the hood, you know, peanut butter jelly sandwiches every day, egg sandwiches. You know what I'm saying? Like, they didn't grew up like this. So they don't even understand when I, when I tell them like, bro, I would die for this shit. They don't even understand what that, you know what I'm saying, what that means. So like trying to change somebody's mentality, right? And also didn't go out there and work as hard as you can and still take the responsibility of every other man.

That shit is kind of draining. but it could be done, right? Can you talk about, like, when you're in Carrey-Lyana, you talked about you played with DJ Moore? I think you played with Chark as well, who's an LSU guy. You play with Curtis Samuel. Like, could you talk about, like, young guys, right, that was having success, you know what I'm saying?

And sometimes it's hard to talk to some of these young kids that got success, too. Like, they ain't trying to hear that shit. Like, they ain't trying to hear no, like, hey, I'm OG, I'm a vet. You know what I'm saying? Like, if I could help you out, here, here you go. You know what I'm saying? Like, they ain't trying to hear that.

Like, can you talk about that a little bit? Yeah, so I would say my approach with, like, being the leader is one. Early on, I was more so kind of leave with my actions as best as I could. And then it's just, I think it's just building a relationship, you know, getting to know the guys. And then me, I'm going, if I feel like genuine to say something, you know, I'm going to offer that advice. But I'm also not going to, like, force somebody to do this and that. But I kind of just bring guys with me and try and just. teach them things that have worked for me or I could have did better and just teach them through

my experiences. You know, like, I was kind of taught, like, we're offering advice you give it as an option, not a demand because you don't know how people perceive things. And then, like, when me just growing in life is just kind of understanding people, you know, some people, you know, they might have had trauma where if you talk to them aggressively, they might shut down, you know what I'm saying? So just trying to just learn and understand the guys, but also, too, not trying to, like, overdo things.

like be forceful or anything like that and just kind of just let things organically flow but I just just pouring the guys and just teach them from my experience and even on days when like last year when I wasn't playing like that made me feel better was pouring into everybody around me and you know being encouraged and being supportive letting them know something I see to help them and just you know speaking life into them speaking life into the environment and all you know just things like that like even in Carolina like we'll go out of dinner we'll go go go carks you know just have a good time together because all that chemistry at end of the day football only last so long these these brotherships and friendships that's forever you know and that really matters and just knowing that

you know you know I don't been through situations I can help you with situations it might be something they could help me with you know so that's that's just how I approach those things and just knowing that somebody like even when we got these camps it's like somebody might not be the best but just teaching them just trying to help them encourage them give them you know confidence in itself right yeah no it does it does and you hit you hit it right on the head with the you know forming relationships like i think that that's that's definitely important you know i think for me at times i did get frustrated as a leader when you know people got again day and age of change of social media this and that right so it's like people started getting more comfortable with the

gifts that i was bringing to the locker room and and you know what i mean opposed to to like, bro, like, it's one thing to go out there and lead by example, but some people also don't like, it's a lost art. They don't even, they don't even recognize that, right? They don't even recognize that like, damn, every time Jews catch the ball, every time Leonard run the ball, every time Chosen gets the ball, they're finishing in the end zone coming back and still getting the next rep. Like, that should be the standard, right? And sometimes that doesn't happen. So sometimes it does take the verbal cues, right? Sometimes it does take challenging, you know, a motherfucker getting in the motherfucker face like, yo, bro, like, if we won't win,

bro, this is what it's going to take. Like, I won all my life. I played at LSU. I won in high school, three, four championships in high school, won the championship in college. Like, like, I'm going to win everywhere I've been. I've won. Like, you know what I'm saying? So I feel like, I feel like it is a great balance. It is a unique balance with each guy. Each guy needs to be led differently. And you write about that. But what you said, right? But what you said, right? See, I was taught that shit in college. Once again, everybody probably wasn't taught that in college. I was taught to finish 40 yards, come back, try to get in game shape.

So when I do have the long runs in a game, that shit is nothing. See, I train my body. So in hindsight, you got to think about this. The young kids coming in probably wasn't doing that. Catch the ball. Like, I see that now. They catch the ball, five yards come back. Oh.

They might catch the ball and not burst at all. I'd be like, damn, that's not making you a better player. That's not getting you in game shape, because guess what? I'm believing you practice how you play. Same. My all seven, eight years in the NFL, I've always finished the run 40 yards. Come back. It don't matter my age, but I know at any moment when that play gets called and I see that crease,

It was a little, I ain't going to lie. It was a little, it was like being transparent. It was a little chaotic because the situation that happened with me, you know, getting the jet out of the game by the coach and then getting traded. Yeah, yeah. Talk about that because that shit. Yeah. Why the fuck like, that's like almost like you're trying to embarrass somebody though.

Yeah. I mean, you know, at the end of the day I put myself in that position, you know, and I could have handled that situation a thousand ways better. It's a lot that took place prior to, but you know, I've grown from it and it's helped me really that, that was a big transition into who I am today, you know. And it's something that, you know, I won't sit here in line and say it's something that I've been, you know, sat in by at times, you know, but I understand that God has a plan. But that transition to Arizona, it was a little, you know, everything happened so fast. And then I got traded

Monday, played Thursday. But being there was really a life-changing experience for me. It was just like a lot of weight got taken off my shoulders. Being around AJ Green, I learned a lot from him. Like, and not only that, it was like, do I still want to work as hard as I worked back then now?

Right. And a lot of that comes down to my circle got a lot smaller, right? And I still was working hard, but can you talk about like your support system throughout all of these challenges, bro? Like, you know, fam, everybody. You know what I'm saying? Can you talk about that? How important that is? Yeah. You know, first of God, you know, and how great he is and how truthful he is.

And then my wife, man, she really helps me, you know what I'm saying? Really supportive, like since before day one, you know what I'm saying? Like always no matter what. And then, you know, just the joy of my daughter, you know, that brings me that peace. But, you know, I look at it like this. Like, I don't have to. I get to. You know what I'm saying? for your family, just your mindset moving forward and your mindset moving forward. Yeah, it was just a step for me to really show, like, you know, that I'm being, you know, everything former. I felt refreshed, but I would say this is being honest. It was like certain battles and things since then intensified. And then it's like even certain things that, like, I ain't going to lie. I'm just being honest. I thought that that moment happened.

And then it's just like, all right, everything is like, it got harder. That's when the battle starts. Yeah, so then it's like even things that pain me, it's like I wrestled with them, you know, but I've come to healing through it, you know what I'm saying? The healing hurts. Like, if we get hurt, things got to swell up, it has to redevelop. It has to break down and then restructure. So, you know, I've been going through that process, but, you know, I'm seeing things

from the other side now. So, you know, I'm really thankful for that. And just everything that God's put me through, you know, even in things that we don't like, like, we still can rely on his peace and even patience. You know, there's long suffering and patience, but trust in God's plans and his timing, you know, it's the best. He'll never forsake us. Yep.

Man, listen, what people don't understand, bro, like, when you give your life to God, it's the best feeling, but it's a constant battle. Yeah. It's a kind, like, br, it's an everyday battle where I had, so I fast for like three weeks. You know, just trying to, you know, beat the flesh. You know what I'm saying? And not saying I never believed in God, but getting my own understanding, reading the Bible. You know, you're reading certain chapters like with Joe.

Like, probably one of my favorite stories that I really needed in my life because I was gone through it. I got football, took in the way. I'm going through, you know, the child support shit, you know what I'm saying? I'm going. It's like, it's like, damn, when I, when I surrender myself with the goal, it's like, while more problems steady piling up on me over and over and over, right? So what I can honestly say is, man, you took a big step because to me, it takes a real man

to understand that I, the way I was living or what I was doing was not right. It wasn't righteous. I have kids that look up to me. I have a wife now that, like, because I got married. I've been married a year now. You know what I'm saying? So even for me, I'm trying to do it right. You know, I didn't had kids out of woodlock,

but just me, the whole picture of the Bible and read it, and it has every answer you need. It has every answer you need. So for me and for y'all too, man, I just want to say, you know, I'm proud of y'all. Yeah, because it's not easy to live righteous every day when it's sin, it's lust, everywhere you look. It just changed my whole perspective and then even decisions like I want to made like the house that I had or the houses I had like now I want a different house for the structure of my daughter so she can you know roam freely but you know just that passion I get from her and just seeing her and just it's a it's a indescribable feeling and like just the joy that it brings in my heart you know just seeing her in those moments and seeing how smart she is and how perfect she is and just you know the love like her hugging me you know what I'm saying and unconditional yeah like you know what I'm saying like it's just it's it's it's it's

Love you for free. Listen, I got five of them things. So I know, I got five. So I had my first one when I was leaving high school, going to college. And you talk about, see, how are your daughters right now? A year and seven months. Okay, so my daughter, she's 12, right?

And bro, when I tell you, the shit goes by so fast, enjoy it. And I'm so happy you had it now because on the back in your career, Like early in my career, you know, we're chasing that grind. So I missed out a lot of things with my daughter, like the first steps, first words, you know, her mother, her mom used to send me videos and that shit was to break my heart. Yeah. But by the go?

Right. Birthdays. So now I get to enjoy my entire fruit of my label with all my kids. I think my last few kids got the best of them. Like I go, I didn't miss nothing. Actually, and they lived in a house with me. My oldest son and my older daughter didn't live in the same house with me. So it was kind of messed up on my end because guess what,

I still wanted to be in that world, was chasing certain things, but I think I got my mind right when I gave my life to guard and decided to move my family in with me. And bruh, it's nothing like them kids, man. Juice, you know. Man, son of your, yeah, you know. Yeah, no, I do know, say Chosen, I want to ask you like, when, you know,

you said your daughter a year and a half, around that time is when you got baptized was, you know, was that a big reason why you wanted to maybe shift, your relationship or find your own relationship with God? Or was that something that you grew up on and just kind of drifted away, right? And was coming back to like, was it part of your childhood or was it more like your daughter and wanting to be a better man, you know, for your family? No, I grew up with God and then I started, I drifted away a little bit through high school.

And like I always still pray and like I go to church not consistently. Like when I always be up there in Jersey with my grandma, she always made me go to church. But I wasn't in God's word. You know what I'm saying? And then one of my coaches from the Panthers, he gave me a Bible on 2021. But I didn't read it then. And I started reading it 2022. And that's when I really started getting into God's word.

But I wanted to get baptized. Like I thought about it for years. And then I had a conversation with somebody on my team. And they said, you know, they kind of, I felt like it was confirmation with a conversation. I had with them. So I was, you know, I was ready to take that step in there, entering the new year of my birthday and stuff too. So can you tell us, you know, out of all the scriptures in the Bible, which one resonates were chosen? What's your favorite one? Um, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And like, as of lately, it's

lean not on your own understanding. Yep. Yep. And always it now is me. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Now, when did you decide to change your name? What was that about? I don't think I ever asked you that question. Yeah, so that was just, that kind of came to me like 20, 22 after I had the Bible study. And I just felt like that was going to be my opportunity to kind of just like shift like the momentum of myself. And then maybe even like a perception or a narrative and just to walk in a new light. And then my overall goal for it too was to like create something new for my legacy.

Yep. And just not that my family was cursed or anything like that, but the, just the struggles that my family might have gone through and just me trying to just reset things into a new direction. And then, but when people see me or they see that name, like the first thing you think of is God and not that I'm like nowhere. near him or trying to step in his shoes or anything like that, the misrepresent or take his glory, but just so his glory could, you know, shine through me. That was my, my motivation behind it. Yeah, you're trying to, you're trying to break the generational curses. Yeah. Right? Because it's so similar to me, right? I decided to get married at 30, 31, actually. And in my family, you know, the biggest thing is women. So if I got to start, you know, I got to be married. I'm sorry, I decided to get married at 30, 31, actually. And,

So if I got stopped at 30, maybe my son, my son stop at 20. Right. They son stop at 10. And the next thing you know, it's just gone. So, uh, what? Ain't nobody should be, nothing with no women and no 10 years old. Bro, you just, you never know, though. You never know.

Hey, I ain't going to lie. I ain't going to lie. You know what? You never know it because I would say, and it's not funny when you look at it, bro. Like, that was around the time, like, you know, like, from, We were all the post, bro. I had all the cousins that was like, yeah, like, you know, yeah, you posted right now.

I'm like, what the fuck? I'm like, what the fuck is y'all talking about? So I was already corrupted at 11 to where I'm, you know what I'm saying? Come to do another show ever again with a, bro. You know what I mean? And it wasn't like one of those things for you, for none of them understanding, right, where it was like, oh, you know, I'm having a midlife crisis or whatever it is. Like, I recognize where I'm at in life and I need to get right. You know what I mean? And like, you know, we see so many of our brothers, right? And, you know, I'm more like let it just show for itself in that time. And, you know, the story is still being written. God still got the panic pinning his hand.

And then when it comes down to the youngest one from, I definitely feel that that's in my purpose. And definitely embrace the role of inspiration. That's why I knew when I was going through these things, I always knew it was far bigger than just myself. And, you know, that's a gift and the opportunity God bless me with. So whenever I see them, I'm pouring to them. And I do things and, you know, I keep my little game with me, you know, especially since this summertime. But it's also me balancing understanding, too.

I got to take care of household and baby girl first, too. So that's just me just being transparent of things that I'm growing through and this new responsibility as well. But I definitely, whenever I see them boys, I'm always teaching them and pouring into them. And I always try. My motivation is, how can I help the younger version of myself that I didn't have? So that's definitely something I do. with them. And it makes me real

Like, I had big schools looking at me and then. And I was, I was set to enroll early. Like, all my stuff was in order. I was leading the state in yards.

Like, my senior was me, Kevin Benjamin, Sammy Watkins, Thoracet, like, I was leading the state. So, you know, it just, you know, I did, you know, being a young kid, a little small little stuff, nothing like ridiculous you know i don't think nothing no different than any other high school it does but you know it just you know at the end of the day they can't stop god's plans you know and it just shows guys glory and you know if my son wants to he gonna go to lSU he gonna hit the highsman he gonna go first pick you know you know it is what it is

jesus had a harder path than me brer and all he wanted to do is help so that's what i i don't lose sleep at the end of the night because i know through my mistakes and all that like I know my heart, my attention.
