The Herd with Colin Cowherd - 4th and South - Caleb Williams MVP? Josh Allen & Bills GO OFF, & Browns are EMBARRASSING | NFL Week 1 Reaction

Episode Date: September 15, 2026

Former NFL Stars Jarvis Landry and Leonard Fournette react to a WILD opening Sunday of the 2026 NFL season. Trevor Lawrence and the Jaguars DEMOLISHED the Cleveland Browns 34-10 in Todd Monken's head ...coaching debut, and they don't hold back on Deshaun Watson questioning what week we will see Shedeur Sanders start. The guys break down Josh Allen's four-touchdown day in Buffalo's 36-31 comeback win against the Houston Texans, Caleb Williams putting up 334 total yards and four scores in the Bears' 59-37 win over Carolina — the HIGHEST-SCORING opener in NFL history — and Joe Burrow and a brand new Bengals defense forcing four fumbles to beat Baker Mayfield and the Bucs 33-27. Jarvis and Lenny get REAL about the Saints losing 31-30 in overtime and if Kellen Moore going for two instead of the tie was the right decision. The guys also break down Arch Manning's fourth-quarter comeback over Ohio State, Oregon getting UPSET in Stillwater, and Lane Kiffin's LSU heading to Oxford.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Starting point is 00:02:16 Baby, we are back with another one, Matt. Yes, sir. This is NFL opening day. Dan, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da, da. Man, I didn't do nothing today, but why football? I went to church and football. That's what Sundays are for now. It was better sweet for me, Man, I miss being out there. Today was a fumbling catastrophe. Oh my God. A lot of turnovers, yeah. All security is not dead no more.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Do you expect anything less than it's week one? No, no, no, no. First of all, in training camp, juice, you know how this go, protect the ball. You have to protect the ball. A lot of these losses, right, was on margins of turnovers, fumbling, But before we get in that, what do you miss about opening day?
Starting point is 00:03:23 I think the thing I miss the most is just like being able to like put it all together like and the shit count. Like pre-season is cool. It's one thing, yeah, like football around the corner, train the camp. But finally actually like to go out there and play and it matters against another opponent, you know, I ain't really, ain't really nothing like it, bro. I used to get to the stadium early on days like this just for the first one. that early. Yeah, I like to get that early, like take it all in, set in the stadium by
Starting point is 00:03:53 myself, listening to a little music, you know, vibe. Because it's a long year. You know that, right? It is. And then on opening night, too, like, normally, like, I have my whole family down. So, like, everybody be able to at least see me play at that point in time throughout the year. And that's fun. That's exciting. So, you know, I love opening a day. What about you? I think to me it depends on the year you in, right? I know for the most opening days, right, when you're under that rookie contract, you solidify, right? But now when it gets to, you know, a new contract,
Starting point is 00:04:29 it's like you're more dialed in, your focus, you think about the players you can make that to change the whole trajectory of the game. Your family is there for number one. So that's one of the most important things. But also, you're going out that tunnel. Introductions, you know, we did name. We did offense than defense or sometimes defense first than offense.
Starting point is 00:04:52 But just remember coming out that tunnel, you know, they went through the wire receiver was nice. The running back's time, it's my turn, then a quarterback, but it's nothing like the fans cheering for you coming out that tunnel. You just feel like chills in your body, man. So shout out to everybody. Shout out to everybody on this opening day, man. You know how important you was based on the lineups, too.
Starting point is 00:05:12 like if you was like the one of the first names of the skill players that was called this this is it but if you was right before the quarterback or in some cases right after the quarterback it's real you was that dude you is that dude everybody can't just be you 100 percent 100 percent listen listen how they figured that part of it out though no it definitely man like they go about the best players right they know who the best players are they know who gets the crowd moving they know who make the plays man so don't be fooled when y'all listen to them lineups yeah the last four to three people are the guys on the offense pay attention pay attention like the baseball it's like baseball like the top the top four hitters yeah and the last it's literally bro the top four hitters
Starting point is 00:06:06 on the football field come out the last they come out last bro i remember I remember being in Miami and we had like the fire and the smoke and all of that stuff. And a lot of my favorite moments and photos that I have is like running through that tunnel. And all you can see is like Ryan Tannenhill is like the last one. So that, you know, that tells you where your boy was at and considered, you know, when you consider, you know, playmakers and. Proud favorite. You're the proud favorite. Yeah, you know what I'm saying? Also, also, it's life better when football is back.
Starting point is 00:06:39 I mean, I've been smiling all day. Listen, I let my chair and do whatever they want around the house. I ain't much worried, bro. I'm watching football 24-7. It felt great. And then also, like I said, it was kind of bittersweet because, of course, I know you still got some left in the tank. I feel like I got some stuff left in the tank.
Starting point is 00:06:58 And hold on to the damn ball, man. Yeah, it was a lot of fumble, man. These games was determined on turnovers, but one. Let's talk about, but one game. It was a true ass weapon. Javis Niagara, New Cleveland Browns. Yeah, listen, listen. You know, I watched that whole game.
Starting point is 00:07:23 I watched that whole game. And then I listened to people talk about that game from, you know, all of the local media. I watched Tom Monk's press conference. I saw a little bit of Deshaun's press conference. And I would say this. I think Tom Monkey hit it right on the head. It wasn't all Deshaun. It was a little bit of everything.
Starting point is 00:07:45 I think the past protection wasn't there. I threw out the whole entire time. I thought that the defense, if you look at the defense, they gave up damn there 40 points. And dudes was like wide open catching touchdowns. Dues was wide open getting first downs. So you could say as much as you want about how Deshawn Watson played. But I think you can't evaluate Deshawn Watson fully.
Starting point is 00:08:07 right? Considering this year, this year. I'm not talking about last year. I'm not talking about what he did in the past. I'm talking about this year. I can't really get a good read on him because, you know, he make good throws. I see, I see him make good throws. I see him play on time. But then I also see that every time he's throwing a ball, he's getting hit. Somebody's hitting his arm. And then, you know, their last drive, you saw him throw a touchdown to Boston, which was an amazing throw. one of the best throws of the day. I watched a lot of football today. And I was one of the best throws that I've seen all day, but he had a clean pocket.
Starting point is 00:08:41 He had time to throw. And I think Cleveland fans are upset, you know, and they want to be upset. You know, they don't think that Shadour will come in and it'll be any worse. But I'm here to tell you, and I love Cleveland fans. I love Cleveland Brown's organization.
Starting point is 00:08:59 If you cannot protect the quarterback, it doesn't matter who's back there throwing the football. football guys like you can't run the I think Quishon Junction ran the ball 10 times today like you know that's the play calling that's not just but also understand this when you're when you're down that much right the running game is over with it's over with yes and no yeah yes and no like you know you can't go you can't just be so one one dimensional that now I can blitz you all day now I can play three deep I can play cover two all day because you're going to throw the ball every play.
Starting point is 00:09:36 You know, like, that's a play caller's job to figure out a way to keep it balanced. Run the ball on first down. Get in the second and manageable. I think that's something that Cleveland didn't do. And another thing that I see Cleveland Browns didn't do today, like they seem like they were extremely unfocused. They had 11 damn penalties. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:54 Like, you can't turn the ball over, have penalties, pre-snap or post-snap, and expect to win a game against the Jaguar team that we talked to this all season. And we've seen. It's talented. I'm going to let y'all know, bro. It's no secret. That defense is flying. Like, it's no secret, right?
Starting point is 00:10:12 And also, to put in context, the score was Jaguars 34, the Browns 10, right? Jacksonville scored on first of its each first possessions. And it was leading 24-0. Right, after that, you go, bro, you go up 24-0 and a half, bro. It gets real. Because now we're trying to climb up that hole and win, right? Trevor Lawrence, 18 for 23 for 245 yards, four touchdowns, no picks, acting rate, 150.6.
Starting point is 00:10:44 He got pulled with eight minutes and 12 seconds left. Right. Deshawn Watson ain't playing defense, is he? Like, like, but that's what I'm saying. As a Cleveland fan, like, I think there's a lot more, there's a lot more to be upset. about than just how Deshawn Watson played. And then also on the interception, everybody's talking about, oh, he was staring down his receivers. Well, I need to find out who the running back coach is
Starting point is 00:11:16 because last I check on a five or seven step drops, running backs are not cutting linebackers in the in the hole to pick up blitzes. Like why is Quinn Sean Johnson Johnson Jenkins cutting a linebacker on a five in a hitch or a seven-step drop. Like, he should be taking, he took the easy way out. Like, you only, for me, for me, for how I would coach football, how I know football, running backs only cut when the ball is coming out quick. They don't just cut because somebody is putting pressure down the A gap or whatever it is. Nine time of the 10, you see quarterbacks or you see running backs.
Starting point is 00:11:58 they adjust pre-snap and they'll go stand a little bit closer to lower so that the impact is not so you know brute right right but there's no way that i'm having this he got a seven-step drop quinshawn junction uh junkins he cut the leg of of the of the of the blitzer but the blitzer didn't fall and the blitzer impacted the throw yeah i go ahead go ahead I'm gonna raise my hand right go ahead by me being a running back unknowledgeable
Starting point is 00:12:31 that's not even where I just made that shit up just yeah so there are rules right for people at home right about cutting in the egg gap but if you're a good pass blocker and you could do boat
Starting point is 00:12:44 see me, I did boat I stood in that paint block and I cut but when I cut I throw my whole body into you know most guys guys throw a chicken wing? No, no, no, no. I'm going, I'm clothes lining. Yeah, everything. I'm grabbing you. I'm going to make sure you break your neck damn
Starting point is 00:13:04 now. Yeah. And I understand where you're coming from, right? When you say, cutting in, why the guys are shotgun. But understand this. That, that, that one of the hardest jobs to do. 100%. Every job on a football field is hard though. Not just, not just block. I I'm going to be honest, bro. Like, trying to, trying to, trying to get open against D.Bs, it's hard. Trying to block freaking Miles Garrett or, you know, any of these D linemen from Jacksonville, that's a hard job. It is.
Starting point is 00:13:40 But also, imagine a guy is coming at you 10 yards, full speed. You don't know what he about to do. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. It's hard, though. It's hard. But again, bro, you get paid a lot of money to do hard things. Like, we can't give this man a way out.
Starting point is 00:13:55 And then with DeShone Watson, we're going, we're going, we're going to judge him to death. Is he the, he's not the starting running back, right? He is to start him running back. He came back off of an injury this year. But at the same time, I'm looking at that. Like, and fans, they see the result. And the result was bad. I'll be honest with you.
Starting point is 00:14:15 But at the same time, he didn't have time to make a read, to make a throw that didn't result into an. interception because the guy that was supposed to pick up the block, damn near whiff. You can say he whiffed. Yeah. Because he hit his right leg. The guy just just lifted his leg up, spinted around a little bit, and it affected the throw. Right. So we're going to be going to stay on this running back topic, right?
Starting point is 00:14:43 You've seen what the young guy, Sonny did, one of the highest paid runnerbacks in lead, Sequine, ran his ass flat over. Yeah, I rather that. You rather that? I rather that. I'd rather see you tried and got your ass bulldozed than you cut and miss. But I think he was still trying, though.
Starting point is 00:15:07 I was being frank, maybe, you know, we're looking at it for two different points of view. But, hey, what he's saying is, running backs. Don't be out, don't be out there cutting bullshit and then your quarterback hurt. How are you taught when you play with Brady? Yeah. You play with Brady.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Did you cut just based off your instincts, or did you cut based off of the play, if it was a quick game? I cut based off of the player. You can watch my feeling, bro, I've cut guys five yards before they even touch the quarterback or touch the line, right? To give my quarterback more time to step in and make that through.
Starting point is 00:15:45 When you're in the A gap, right? When you're in the A gap and you cut in the A gap, bro, that's how you tell the quarterback ACL, number one. Like, you never want to be the guy that got the quarterback hurt, especially if he's worked a pretty penny, right? I've always been a guy to cut beyond the line, right? I might run up, play some games, then I'm going to cut you. Right.
Starting point is 00:16:06 So when it comes to that, you have to play games with them, right? Play games to the lineback, running backs. You might jump, like, you might have to jump at them to use it back up. Now, that jumping, if you did at him, it's going to give you a couple seconds to fight. Hopefully the ball gets off. Well, understand this, though. I played with a quarterback that wasn't a scrambling quarterback, too.
Starting point is 00:16:28 Right. So maybe Deshaun was back there trying to figure some things out, right? He threw his first pick. I know his head was probably all over the place for number one. So, what we can say this, y'all, today it was a lot of poor decisions. You always said the running back cutting the eight gap? Yeah. Which we are tart as running backs don't do that.
Starting point is 00:16:51 But if you have to, do it. But make sure you do it the right way because I'm the guy, I throw my whole body to their legs. I'm not just about to throw no chicken wings, y'all if it's being real. Listen, as I'm processing this and I continue to think about this, you should never cut on a five or seven step drop, especially if you know the play is not a timing play. That play that Cleveland ran wasn't a timing play.
Starting point is 00:17:21 It wasn't a play where he hit his seven step, is out. He had two men out. He had two men out. And when you cut people and you know this too, Leonard, when you cut them, they get back up. Just because you cut them, that don't mean that the play is over. For sure, they get back up. They get back up quick. And it still could affect the play. First of all, Quinshan Johnson Johnson, Jenkins, make sure you make the cut. You know what I mean? And then Watson from there, he got to make a better decision with the football. Look, I don't want to beat of dead hearts here, you know, when a quarterback leave more rushing yards than the damn running back, that tells you there's a lot more things going on than just one person. And Cleveland
Starting point is 00:18:05 got Cleveland Browns got a lot of things to figure out. And I hope they figure it out, man, because, you know, the fans and that team and that city, they want a winning football team. Matter of fact, every city and team wants a winning football team. But nobody, like these, these, this orange and brown that I got on, man. Take it off. Yeah. They're trying to get somebody else to take it off. Hey, well, listen, Jacksonville, total offense, 360 total yards,
Starting point is 00:18:37 126 rushing yards on 32 carries, right? That's a good thing. They have a balanced offense. They're throwing, they're throwing in, they run into the ball. They had 23 first downs, 33 minutes and 51 seconds of possession. Jesus, that's damn the whole game. Who's the defensive coordinator? That's damning the whole game.
Starting point is 00:18:56 Who's the defense coordinator? And the Jack's defense, five sacks, eight QB hits, an interception, two forced fumbles, and a fumbled recovery. And like you said, we're not going to beat on a dead horse, but fellas, we got to do better. Now, I am interested in this. When does Shador step in? It seems like it might be closer than what we thought, Joe, Javis. Maybe.
Starting point is 00:19:21 it might be closer than what we thought i think do you think he makes a difference though like based on what you saw today do you think shadora sanders steps in at any point and make a difference we have to see maybe they respond to shador differently than than de shan just being real and and you can bro you can tell bro like usually uh when the quarterback chose his first interception you know it's it's a mistake being real But for the Sean, it's like he's out to prove them wrong so bad. Like he was punching his hand like fuck. It's like he's scared to make mistakes.
Starting point is 00:20:02 And you know, as a player, we, it's hard to have a perfect game, Javis. I think he's out there in his head, knowing the fans, doesn't want him there, doesn't want him to play, doesn't want to be a QB1. A lot of that shit is going on in his head, to be real. When you were out there, you didn't have these same thoughts? I mean, I've never went through what he went through. But I'm saying you didn't have thoughts of like, damn, I missed that block. Or damn, I fumble the ball.
Starting point is 00:20:28 Or damn, I didn't catch the pass. Or damn, I got tackle for a loss. Like, do you, you know, I feel like, yeah, exactly what you're saying, what he went through. But I feel like the position that he is in with the team and with the fans right now, he, he, he don't want to fuck up at all. Like, like, that's the only way for him to walk out there and hold his head up. And it's a shame that it has to be that way, right? Like, it's not like he going out there just throwing picks to throw picks. It's not like he going out there and not trying to be the same,
Starting point is 00:21:02 Deshaun Watson that we all hoped he would return to from his Houston days. It's not like he's not going on. But listen, this team is not a good team. Right now, this team isn't, I'm just going to call a spade of spade. Right now this team is not where. you know, any of the Browns teams that I played on or would consider a decent Brown team is. Like, and no offense, when I say this, like, we're looking at a Hugh Jackson type of maybe season right now, like in Cleveland. And it's, again, I don't think anybody wanted to take the Cleveland job and I might be wrong.
Starting point is 00:21:46 And that's why Todd Monkin got it, right? I do not think that Todd Monkin is a bad coach. I don't think Todd Monkin is a bad coach. But for a first-time head coach at this position, at this state of what this organization is in, I think it was a reach. And we're going to see that on Sundays. This is the results you're going to get from a first-time head coach.
Starting point is 00:22:09 11 penalties, three turnovers, sacks, the defense giving up 40 points. Like, this is what you're going to. going to see. It's the season opener. So hopefully they can go back and correct some things and figure out a different strategy. Yeah, maybe it's running Quinn Sean Jenkins and all of the running backs that they got. Maybe they run the ball 30, 40 times a game. Maybe that's what it is and try to play as good of a defense as they possibly can. Maybe that's the strategy, right? Maybe that gets them closer to wins than putting the ball in the air. But somebody need to have,
Starting point is 00:22:44 And somebody needs to go up there and figure it out and be honest. It's not only Deshawn Watson. Also, I'm going to say this, right? I know the Cleveland Browns traded Miles Garrett, you know, they got Jared verse. Who did nothing today? Yeah. Yeah. Like, I'm not going to say he did nothing.
Starting point is 00:23:06 And I don't, and when I'm talking, please, fam, when you guys, I'm not, I don't mean this in disrespect, right? But like at the same time, you saw a trade where Miles Garris had zero tackles, zero sacks. And that was, that was the, that was more important than the 49ers winning the game in the news. Definitely. And then Jared Verse, they got blowed out today. True. He didn't do nothing either. We're talking about, we're talking about the Cleveland bamboozled, the Rams into a trade, knowing Miles Garrett was injured and all this stuff.
Starting point is 00:23:40 But at the same time, the Jaredverse didn't do anything that showed me that, damn, like, Cleveland won to trade either. They lost. 38, 30, whatever the score was, something, a blowout. It was a blowout. There's no shortcut for saving time. But saving money is simple. Starting point is 00:24:42 I'm so sorry. I'm seeing a reading of Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes by Audra McDonald's at the Wonderland Bookstore on 14. That's crazy. I went to the Wonderland Bookstore yesterday and I heard Nora Jones do a reading of Zero Dark 30. No way. You have to come to the last bookstore though. We spend real time on it in our survival. surviving middle school run, bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now. So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological and psychological chaos happening
Starting point is 00:25:54 all the same time. We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying, and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust. There's belonging. You could think of belonging as I can be myself and I can still be accepted. and then there's fitting in. Spitting in says, I have to change who I am in order to avoid rejection.
Starting point is 00:26:16 Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers, sitting down with therapists, Keir Gaines on Black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage. You don't have on shorts, so you can't do flips, you have on the dress, you have to cross your legs. That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the father's doing the work at home.

Starting point is 00:26:55 Self Care September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means. Yes, self-care can be a long walk. It can be in everything shower. It can be putting your phone on Do Not Disturb. But sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff. and understanding your patterns, your boundaries, finally figuring out why you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again. I'm Gemma Spag, the host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast,
Starting point is 00:27:19 and each week we unpack the psychology behind the experiences that shape your 20s, from relationships and friendships to money, anxiety, confidence, attachment, just becoming more comfortable with who you are. Unlike the quarter-life crisis, which is depicted as the collapse, the quarter-life reinvention is the expansion and growth of something. When we develop the ability to be happy by ourselves, nobody else can take that from you. So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself. Get to know yourself as well.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Football is back, folks, and you need to change the way you invest in the NFL this season. It's finally time to ditch your old sportsbook apps because Polly Market is here. Starting point is 00:29:31 Bingoes versus Tampa Bay. Oh, my God. Yeah. Joe Burrow looked it good, bro. What? Hey, hey, hey. And let's talk about this. When you have two wild receivers that's on your team, it could be, there could be
Starting point is 00:29:47 wide receiver one. Oh my, T. Higgins, oh my God. Yeah. T. Higgins to sell the game? Yeah. Diving catch. Yeah. And Jammar Chase only leads with two for 12, two for 12 yards, I believe.
Starting point is 00:30:01 Yeah, but you know, they're going to double team, though, which is. Yeah. It is what it is. Which is the beauty of having two receivers. two number one receivers that can make plays at that time, right? Like, you know, I think Joe Burrow looked at the best I've seen him look. I'm just going to be honest. I thought he was on point with all his throws, timing, fitting him in the tight windows.
Starting point is 00:30:25 I think the tight end stepped up for them, Giuseki. He caught a lot of balls. Wait, did you play with him in my end? No, I didn't. I didn't. Okay, okay. Now, but to me, he's always been underrated, always been nice, hands. made, what, not only one, but I think four big plays.
Starting point is 00:30:42 Yeah. On third downs. Like, let's talk about that. And also, my Tampa Big Bucks, Tampa turned over the ball four times. All fumbles, right? It lost in the game because, despite of outplaying Cincinnati, it stretches, right? Man, bro. Baker Mayfield, 23 out of 28, 82 passing rating, 216 yards,
Starting point is 00:31:03 zero passing touchdowns, one Russian touchdown, touchdown, and three lost fumbles. Hey, Baker, my dog. Some of them, the Scrambleger was working. Hey, he got away from a lot of shit that was going on. He did. He got away from a lot of shit. And guess what?
Starting point is 00:31:21 Sometimes when you try to, you know, overdo your part sometimes, that's what I'm saying. In some situations, just get your ass down. Yeah. But he fumbled in the red zone, which is, it could have been an easy six points, right? Yep. But him being who he is, and that's why people love him, the extra mile. Now, extra yardage, fighting, fighting for his team. And sometimes you don't need that.
Starting point is 00:31:44 But hey, shit happens, man. Yeah, I never noticed this, but did you notice, do quarterbacks do ball security? Like how running backs do ball security? Well, when I was there, when I was in time, we did. Like tucking it away and then- Yeah, tucking in somebody punching it. Yes, we did that. We did that.
Starting point is 00:32:01 We did those quarterbacks, even though, quarterbacks look kind of awkward doing that shit. But it's necessary. You know, if you want to win. you have to do it, to be honest. Yeah, I think, I know they do it in the pocket, you know, when they're holding the football and stuff like that, but I've never seen them like actually turn into runners and then try to, you know, get ball security drills going.
Starting point is 00:32:22 However, I will say this about Baker. I think that regardless of how those turnovers happen and when they happen, they still had an opportunity to win that thing, you know. And I don't think Tampa should hang their head on this loss. They lost to a good football team. A football team that when you usually, when you turn the football over even one time, you're not even that close in a football game. And in fact, they turn the football over three times, possibly almost had to turn it over four times. I think and to still stay that close.
Starting point is 00:32:53 I think they were in, what, a touchdown of losing that game. It says a lot about the Tampa football team. I think they got a great football team. Baker Mayfield still fought back and still rushed for a touchdown later in that game. Emeka, he cleared at the last minute and got on the field. He showed up big for them. It's only a matter of time for Tampa. I think it was a tough loss considering the turnovers, but, you know, baking.
Starting point is 00:33:18 To me, they still had a chance to win, though. Yeah, they did. They still had a chance to win. If I was bigger, right, I noticed he tried to take a lot of long shots, right? And this one, you could tell the deception between the great quarterbacks, the elite quarterbacks and the good quarterbacks. Hey, bro, check the ball down sometime. Open it up.
Starting point is 00:33:40 You know, you got a guy like Kenny who's, I think Kenny had what 79 catch last year. Man, let him do his thing. Open it, open it up, start off with the checkdowns. And guess what, the checkdowns will eventually open up for the deep balls. Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 00:33:54 I think he started off just trying to sling it downfield a little bit too much, right? And it was getting put in those third and 20s, third and 15. That is hard on third down, right? We have to be manageable. Also, Bucky, hold onto the ball. Right, when you run into the right, why would you ball, why the ball will be in your left hand? Nah, you, well, this is park ball shit. Switch it. Use your free arm. And also, can we talk about Chris Gottem? This, I don't know, this motherfucker got strong out the blue. You see them stiff arms?
Starting point is 00:34:24 Man, I saw him. Oh my God. The fact that he's stiff on buddy and buddy retaliated quick and shit, he's stiff on them through the ground. Yeah, yeah. I don't st him up like a bassist him up like a bassist, like a basketball, man, he caught him in it up and suplexed him. I'm like, damn, I'm why it's WWE in out here. Hey, that shit real out there. And also, right, let's talk about this, bro. What does Todd, what does Coach Bull say on Monday?
Starting point is 00:34:48 Hmm. To the team. I mean, that's your coach. You tell me, and then I'll tell you what I think he should say. But that's your coach. You know what he's going to say. You tell us what he's going to say. For number one, the D-line.
Starting point is 00:35:03 We need more off the Ripper. You let Chase Braun kind of get off on y'all like that. He definitely got off. Like we need more. Bain, we need more. Big Vita, we need more. Linebacker. See, and this where the captain will be missed, Lavate David.
Starting point is 00:35:21 Right. It didn't look bad, but like, come on now, that's not Tampa's defense. That wasn't the Tampa defense I know. I played against, I played with. Yeah. Pick the shit up, y'all. Pick the shit up, y'all. the shit up. Yeah, it was opening, it was opening day. I would say the Trotter kid who caught the
Starting point is 00:35:40 pick six. I think he, I think he played really well. I think overall they played well. It's just the turnover margin was just so big. It was hard to kind of come back, especially considering that, you know, the Bengals got field goals out of most of those. They got points that added up, right? Into being a difference in the score. I would say this for Todd Bowles. You know, he's a Super Bowl winning coach. So, you know, he's going to say the right thing. But, I look at that game and say, if we protect the football, we walk out of that, we walk out of that stadium with a dub. Yeah, we win. If we even take away two of these turnovers, we walk out of that stadium with the dub, you know, I think they're very close to figuring it out.
Starting point is 00:36:23 Obviously, last year, they started hot and, you know, they lost a sizzle toward the end. And to start the season like this, I'm sure for them, for a lot of those players that's used to winning, it was very tough, right? Maker-Aidfield through a touchdown, well, should have had a touchdown to Ted Johnson, right? That was a drop, right? So it's all those things that, yeah, they still scored on that drive, but it ate at the clock to be able to do it two plays later or play later. So, you know, it's so many little minute things that when you really look back at it and they watch the tape on this, they're going to be like, damn, we were right there. We was this close. But I think if they get those turnovers corrected, man, they're going to be a good football team.
Starting point is 00:37:05 And also, let me defend my LSU brother, right, fat. Russell Wilson went on CBS today and said, Joe Broer is gone. Russell, he ain't, the fuck as you talk. What the fuck is you talking about? Right. A guy in that caliber, yeah, I understand they went three seasons straight, you know, not going to the playoffs, right? They had injuries, you know, chasing Higgins, you know, this year.
Starting point is 00:37:32 Man, listen, when we see this team at full strength that's healthy and full tilt, they are unstoppable man and for us for a guy in your caliber that played to say that you had you had down years down years yourself let's be real I don't know you say that to clickbait
Starting point is 00:37:50 to get views don't say that dumb shit no more you don't piss me out I heard you say that crazy ass shit right and I agree bro and he and Russ is you know in a way just entering the media right so I guess to some degree
Starting point is 00:38:06 I understand what he what he's trying to do. But, you know, like I know, man, a head coach is more expendable than a good ass quarterback. When you have a great quarterback, you know, he ain't going nowhere, right? Like he got an absolutely, absolutely want out and make sure that he won out. You know, I think Zach Tiller, yeah, maybe Zach Tillers on the hot seat. But if you look at this team, what, three, four years ago, they're playing for the Super Bowl,
Starting point is 00:38:32 you know, and through injuries over the last couple of years, they just haven't been able to get back to their rightful place. But I really do think this is the time for them. The distillers aren't the best in the division anymore. The Browns are weak, right? The Ravens look like the Ravens. And we know this. T. Higgins and Jamar Chase have been the Ravens killers since they showed up.
Starting point is 00:38:58 So they have an opportunity this year to win that division and make it to the playoffs. and as far as after season, off-season stuff, if anybody going nowhere, anywhere, you best believe it's not Joe Borough. You better believe that. There you go. Hey, let's go on to the next. The Raiders and the Dolphins.
Starting point is 00:39:19 I'll ask you a question. Oh, go ahead, go, go, go, go. Do you think Cincinnati could be Cincinnati without Jurorboro? No, they tried it last year when he got hurt. That's right. Fair enough. You sound like you need to be on CBS getting paid, bro. Hey, hey.
Starting point is 00:39:35 Hey, CBS, how I let your boys, fourth and so out, let's do it. Whatever show this guy on there talking about, talking crazy about, you know what I'm saying? He wants all quarterbacks to lose their jobs now since he ain't got nothing. Yeah, that's what it seemed like. That's crazy. On to the next, man. Raiders beat the Dolphins, 27 to 13.
Starting point is 00:39:55 Mm-hmm. I tell people, bro, Kirk Cousins, he can, listen, he still could dial it up at the age he's at. Kirk Cousers, 21 of 30, 160 yards, three touchdowns. He had two interceptions, right? Malik Willis, 15 or 27, 2, 220 yards, no touchdowns, one interception, 66.9 rating, sack five times for 35 yards. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:21 Hey. I saw good flashes. I saw good flashes out of the dolphins, though, Leonard. I saw a lot of good things, especially in the past game. Our guy, H.E.N., I think he's, you know, he's a. Christian McCaffrey of that team. He used to get the ball in his hands as many times as possible as many ways as possible. But I saw, I saw Malik Willis throw the ball on time. I saw a defense that in a beginning of this game, they were scrappy, bro. They were scrappy. They still made plays.
Starting point is 00:40:48 The two picks that Kirk Cousins through, normally, you know, Dolphins defenders are dropping in his passes. This year, they're catching them. So I think that if you're a dolphin fan, I am more optimistic than I was going into the season. I think the head coach and the GM has done a great job of kind of putting together a collection of players, young, old, whatever, mixing it up, whatever, to make this happen. But the Oakland Raiders team, we expected them to win. They have a veteran at quarterback. They have an animal as a running back, right? They got the pieces to, you know, win a game like this against a Dolphins team who don't really have the infrastructure in the key positions to make the plays that stars make. That's a period. I can say
Starting point is 00:41:31 I can say this, right? I can say this. It goes back, please listen, protect the ad sets, protect the quarterback. You know, I understand he got sack a lot of times. But once again, he's a mobile quarterback himself, or Java. Right? And despite of everything, Miami ran the ball 18 times with itching on the roster. Explain that. We have to. You might, you might not be confident in the, in the past the game. Might not be confidence in the guys that he's throwing the ball to at the time, right? A.N. is, it's going to be the difference maker. Once they get him going, the machine is going to get gone. Point blank, period.
Starting point is 00:42:05 I felt like Cousins performed well. It's expected. A lot of guys may forget when he was with Atlanta, going what, it was what, six and one? Always thought off well. Now, finishing throughout the season is probably, we have to see, but it's expected.
Starting point is 00:42:22 The thing I see with Cousins is, if he's not playing on time, he makes mistakes. and and I see this over and over and over and I think that's the knock on court cousins like if this guy can't play on time and he has to play off schedule he doesn't want to get hit so if he can't playing on time he's throwing the ball away or he's throwing it to us and I think that's the thing moving forward with Oakland that you know we and I saw this today and I'm going to say it right now we may see Fernando Fernando Mendoza this year I'm just going to say it because I saw some things
Starting point is 00:42:59 even in this win that as a what 16 year vet he shouldn't be making Drake Mayish type mistakes out there right um and again a win is a win and and I'll let Oakland ride on this one I'll like Kirk Cousins I'll give him some grace but I do see if he continues this and people figure out the pattern that if he doesn't play on schedule he makes mistakes I think you can see Clint Kubek make a decision at that point to go with Fernando Mendoza. I'm saying it right here on Fort This South tonight. All right.
Starting point is 00:43:34 100%. Y'all heard it here first. Can we get into the Bills and Texans? Hey, that was a good-ass game, Jalves. It was. That was a good-ass game. Josh Allen hit Josh Palmer. A lot of Josh is on this motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:43:49 I see why the real Josh Allen changed his name. He had Josh Palmer for a 30-4-yard touchdown with a minute and 41-second. left. The two point, they tried, failed, right? Houston got the ball back, moving to Buffalo territory. Greg, Russo, hey, my young boy, hey, he always had it now. I've always, I told you, when Vineham, there was up an age at the time, we were still younger, when Vineham, got to leave, you're going to make plays, you got paid, knocked the ball loose, Terrell Bernard, no, another guy that I went out of their practice, and the one-on-one, getting better, making each each other better when nine seconds left on the clock got the ball back.
Starting point is 00:44:26 But, hey, good ass game. I think on both ends, right, despite of whatever the case may be, even on the first, the first drive, right? Kind of a ballsy call to me. They went, they went for them fourth and one with Josh Allen tried to scramble to the left. Number three came up made a spectacular, spectacular tackle. Who tackles his big ass one-on-one like that? It's hard.
Starting point is 00:44:54 It's hard tackling him. Josh Allen went for 20 of 29, 334 yards, two passing touchdowns with 130 pass rating, but two rushing touchdown. Damn, he, I ain't lying. Hey, that's some crazy-ass numbers. Yeah. His previous four games in Houston were all losses, right?
Starting point is 00:45:16 Buffalo offense, the guys, you know what I'm saying? Dalton, he was a young guy when I was there. Yep. Five catches 130 yards. And DJ Mark caught a 40-yard touchdown. We're going to see Jay Stride. How do you feel like CJ Stride did it? I thought he did good.
Starting point is 00:45:32 I thought he did exceptionally well. I think that he got out of trouble when he needed to get out of trouble. He tried to play on time as much as possible. Made some tight window throws. Again, it comes down to protection in those moments, right? I think Buffalo Rush 3, maybe 4 or 4 guys, and they got there. I think when you look at how Houston moved the ball, when the clock got against them, they kind of panicked a little bit, right? And that's one of those things that's been the Achilles heel of the Houston Texans for the last two years.
Starting point is 00:46:07 But from what I've saw today, I'm excited about their running game and their passing game and how it all works out together. You know, Montgomery had an amazing day today on the ground and also catching the football. I thought he played well. I thought he helped keep the everything balance. And again, despite the stats of Josh Allen, Houston defense plays stingy now. Yeah. I know giving up 300 yards don't sound,
Starting point is 00:46:36 but when you play a shootout game like that, those things happen. You know, and again, Josh Allen had to come show up with an MVP level performance to win that game. And maybe, is this a secret right? maybe the Texans can't defend a mobile quarterback. Maybe they can't, but, you know, again, maybe it's just Josh Allen. Maybe it's just Lamar Jackson's does a world.
Starting point is 00:47:02 And that's only two names. Yeah. When you look at all of everybody else that's on their schedule, they're not that mobile. They're not as that athletic, right? They can't throw the ball and run the ball that effective, right? So, you know, I'm excited for Houston. I think we talked about this in our predictions of like how the season would go. division and and also just for them as a whole being that everybody over there is on a hot seat
Starting point is 00:47:26 CJ Stroud didn't get paid you know the head coach I believe is on the hot seat former player he's done a hell of a job while he's been there but he's on a hot seat let's call it spade of spade but I think what they put on the film today what they put on tape today was it was excellent despite the loss I think they put exceptional exceptional things on tape you know I watched the indie indie game versus Baltimore I think if that team when Houston shows up and play against Indian side of that division, they win that game. I think that's a team that can compete
Starting point is 00:47:55 with Jacksonville Jaguars, right? And then obviously with Tennessee, that's a team that blows Tennessee out. So if you look at, but you look at Houston, in the landscape of it all, you got to be excited as a Houston Texan fan. You have to be. And you know, we have our younger brother booty over there, right?
Starting point is 00:48:10 But, bro, Nico Collins made some big catches. He turned up when they needed to turn up, right? See why he's wire receiver one over there. to me the texas i think the texans you do you think the texas are still favorite to win us out um yeah listen it's hard it's it's day one and jackserville they're amazing they just put up you know jacksonville just blew out cleveland again we can't if the bars against cleveland then you know it's it's kind of tough to tell but i will say Houston texas played a super bowl caliber team today they faced the MVP today and they
Starting point is 00:48:48 held their own in their own right. And again, like I say, as a Houston Texan fan, even as a player, as a coach and as staff, you've got to be excited about what you saw and out your guys from from every position, a quarterback position, the D-line, the Neil Hunter affected the game. You know, those cornerbacks, like they affected the game, you know, like you mentioned earlier, a cornerback coming up on a fort down to make a tackle on Josh Allen. That rarely happens, right? You know, but the thing that interests me is right, you know, Buffalo goes on the road to Houston and get the win. You know, Joe Brady, first time coach, LSU guy, he goes and get his first win. They gave him the game ball, but like he took his shirt off in the locker room.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Like, what was that about? Did he do that when? Hey, no, no, but that wasn't his role at the time, right? He was an officer coordinator. Yeah. You know, I think, I think he's been there a long tender time with these guys. He understands what these guys been through. And I think he wants them to get over.
Starting point is 00:49:45 that hump together because they all fell short as a unit over over the last couple of years. So his first one as a coach, shirt off, you know, he's young. So that's him, you know, he's young. So I mean, it is what it is. And to me, at this point, also this is going back on CJ Stride, I know he hasn't, they had talks about him getting paid or whatever, but C.J. Stride to me is the franchise quarterback there. Pay the man, paid a guy.
Starting point is 00:50:12 And that's what it is. I agree. How well do you think Buffalo does this year? Like, were you happy about how they perform? I know you had a short stint in Buffalo, right? But based on what you saw, does this look like the same Buffalo team that we've all known to grow in? Yeah, of course, regular season, regular season, they're going to do their thing. They're going to put up points.
Starting point is 00:50:35 They're going to win. Everything counts in playoffs. They're going to win in the regular season. I'm just going to be real with you. You said James Cook making, like, their offense. it's hard to stop it's very hard to stop so i'm gonna say this right yes they might they're gonna get 12 wins for sure it is a 12 win team for sure but once the regular season is over it bro we need we're gonna need y'all to kick in to play off more right i know it's early but i just want
Starting point is 00:51:02 put you on the mind right they always have good regular seasons great regular season so do they win a division or or do they do they lose to the patriots the james the jesus Jets won today, by the way. Right, but I think, I think... There's no shortcut for saving time, but saving money is simple. Just combine your car and home insurance with Bel Air Direct and save. Starting point is 00:55:21 Josh Allen win MVP? I don't know, bro. I don't know. Hey. Is he off to a good start at least? Is he on the ballot? Yeah, of course. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Of course. But let's not forget, Joe Burrow, Paul Jackson. Out of the day. Patty Mahomes is coming back. Hmm. They're saying he might start the first game. Yeah, he's clear to play the first game. What do you think about that?
Starting point is 00:55:47 What do you think about that, by the way? I'm excited to see the air show. To me, he's the air show. Yeah. Besides Josh Allen, I don't think there's another guy that armed talent as him in the lead. Yeah. So we will see. I'm excited to see him come back.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Yeah. I think having Pat Mahomes back out there tomorrow, Monday night football, all, like, it's going to be exciting. I think it's going to be electric. And it's what this game needs. I didn't expect him coming back so soon. If I'm honest with you, I didn't think he would be back to, like, week four, week five. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:56:26 And like. Hey, but listen, different generation, therapies, these medicines, they work, y'all. Yeah. You hear me? They work. That's why I truly feel some of the guys back in the day are, they kind of jealous of us because they have all this. They ain't have all this technology
Starting point is 00:56:42 to make them bounce back in months. You know what I'm saying? Yeah. You know back in the day, the first guy whoever did it was Adrian Peterson with ACL. Yep. Hey, he came back. And they looked faster, stronger.
Starting point is 00:56:53 You know what I'm saying? That was the start of everything. But see, now, oh, yeah, it's a different world. Where would you rank these quarterbacks? The top five guys that we just mentioned. Where would you rank these guys? Who would you put up? Oh, we're talking about their overall careers?
Starting point is 00:57:08 Or what you're saying? Just now, if you had to start a football team and you have five different teams, maybe you're a fantasy franchise owner, right? And you have to, you have to lead one of these guys, top five, all of these guys, give me your top five quarterbacks. I'm gonna go Patty,
Starting point is 00:57:27 I'm gonna go Josh, I'm gonna go Lamar. Yep. I'm gonna go Joe. Yep. Who I'm missing out? Anybody you say? I think those top four, very correct yeah i'm i'm i'm i'm gonna leave it right there i don't go far so i'm sold on that so so so i know
Starting point is 00:57:47 your guy brock purdy is um that's your guy is he in the top five right now not right now okay i just want to double check i was just trying to see if you're not right now not right some wild shit. Next team. Hey, the Saints and the Lions was another great-ass game, man. Hey, if you wasn't excited for the day, I don't know what's wrong with you. They went into overtime, 31.30, the Lions win. Detroit led, the third quarter, 21 or 0.
Starting point is 00:58:19 The Orleans Saints came all the way back. Jared golf, 29 of 39, 206 yards, two touchdowns, no turnovers. Passion rating 96.7. Tyler showed. Hey, I can say this. Saints, he might be the franchise quarter of him. He went 35 or 56.
Starting point is 00:58:41 God damn. Yeah. They had to. They were behind. A career high of 410 yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions, plus a lost fumble on a set.
Starting point is 00:58:53 O'Lavi had 10 catches for 182 career high. Detroit offense. Detroit ran it 33 times. Ooh. Right. Hey, that's, eh, for 165 with Gibbs carrying 29 times with 156, adding five catches. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:59:13 And as we know, Detroit old school, they're going to run the ball, they're going to keep it balance. Yeah. I wasn't mad at the overtime call. As y'all know, we say, no risk get, no biscuit. Right. Play call, questionable, for sure. Me personally, I would have ran some type of mesh routes
Starting point is 00:59:35 because I'm trying to think, well, they're in zone. No, they were in man. They had the perfect play call, but they got held up at the line. So the first read to a lobby back in the flat wasn't there. So he had to go to the number two option. Only thing about that play, if your number one is not there and you know, it's done. It's over.
Starting point is 00:59:57 I think I would, but ultimately, as a Saints fan, you, as someone from New Orleans, right? Do you like the nuts, the Cajonis that it takes to be in that situation? Instead of kicking a field goal and trusting your defense and playing for another overtime, you go for two to win it. Do you like that? As gutsy, I'm not mad at at all. I'm not mad at it at all, right?
Starting point is 01:00:23 Like I say, I probably would, me personally, there was a man, I would have probably ran mesh routes. You know what I'm saying? Unless they would have, the defense was good at it to pass it on. But like you said, they were in man, to be honest. Yeah, they ran a pick route. They ran up. They were trying to run a pick route for Chris Olive.
Starting point is 01:00:41 Chris Olive came in motion and then he stopped and shot back to the flat. And two guys that was on the football, they were supposed to set a rub for him so that he could run into the flat. Great thought. Great concept. Great concept, right? But at the same time, it's also one of those. play calls that pigeon-hulls you into if your first read is not there, the play is probably over with.
Starting point is 01:01:04 It's probably there. It's probably there. But like I say, to me it was a gutsy call, but hey, no risky, no biscuit. No biscuit. I enjoyed the game. It was a lot of physicality going on. As you know, hey, the lines are going to run the ball, regardless of whatever you think, whatever you got going on.
Starting point is 01:01:20 Chase Young came up with a big sack, a force fumble, you know, to call some things. Yeah, that was controversy. around that. They didn't give him the, what did you think? When you, as you were watching the game, do you think it was a sack fumble? Because that was a touchdown that they didn't support. To me, to me it was a sac formal, what you know, as we all know. It's like LSU, they hit on the Saints too, bro.
Starting point is 01:01:42 Right. Hey, be real, they hit on the Saints. Somebody pulled the script out and was like, no, this ain't a part of the script. Right. In the last couple years, even a controversy call when they play against the Rams, that should have been an interference for sure. But hey, hey, hey, we're not reps. You're not there. Shit happens.
Starting point is 01:01:58 Right. Shit happens. Right. But it was a great game. Shout out to both teams, home our home team, you know. Yeah. And hey, no risk or no business. Coach, I respect the call.
Starting point is 01:02:09 So you're in my respect. They lost by one. They get blown out. They came back. They showed grit or resiliency. Shout out to the Saints. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:02:20 I want to shout out Joanne Johnson too, man. He made a couple plays there. Yeah. And after not being involved, pretty much the whole entire game. and he just made play after play after play after play and and I'm just thinking to myself like man this is a guy that they can't wait any longer to get this guy involved in a game this is got this guy got to be in those first 15 he has to be in your game playing on third down he's a mismatch nightmare for defenders linebackers safeties with his size and with and with his speed so
Starting point is 01:02:50 I was happy to see that you know the saints may have found their guy, bro. Yeah. I was really happy to see that the Saints may have found their guy. And I'm not talking about the quarterback. I'm talking about the head coach. I think I think they found their guy, bro. I think he understands what it means. He's played the game, right? He played the game at a high level in college in the NFL. Obviously he didn't do so well. But, you know, he was one of those guys that stayed around because he was smart at football. He knew the game. And to have This guy calling your players and leading a football team with the type of nuts and the type of balls
Starting point is 01:03:32 that it takes to say, you know what, this is my, this is a game that we could possibly, can win, let's be conservative. He said, no, I ain't going back to the city to be conservative. I'm going back to the city with a dub or yeah, period. And I like that he put it all on the table. I respect that. I respect that.
Starting point is 01:03:52 Being for Louisiana, that's what they about. Child, shout out to the city. Also, can we talk about the Bears and the Panthers? I felt like I was watching the goddamn college game. Yeah. Hey, defense was not dead today, huh? It couldn't have been. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 01:04:08 Okay, Bears, 59, Panthers, 37. It's the highest scoring, the highest scoring opener in NFL history. 96 points total, combined. Bricks the record for 88th set when Tampa beat New Orleans 4840 in 2018. Most points Carolina has ever allowed. Listen, let me talk about these two quarterbacks. Caleb Williams look magnificent. Yeah, bro, I never, I never, he always shocks me
Starting point is 01:04:38 when he scrambles and he looks fast. Like, I'm always like shocked like them. Like, look at this dude running, like he's seen. He had gloves like that in Oklahoma when he played for Oklahoma, right? But today he had 21 out of 29, 260 49 yards. Two passing touchdowns.
Starting point is 01:04:56 No picks. Yeah. Passing rating of 124. A 65 yard rushing, 65 rushing yards with two Russian touchdowns. He had like a Josh Allen game. Yeah, he did. Yeah, it was Josh Allen game for show. But Bryce Young, 23 out of 37, 361 yards.
Starting point is 01:05:17 Three touchdowns, one interception, 107 pass rating, plus a seven-yard Russian touchdown. Hey, that seven-yard rushing touchdown, but he had a motherfucker with the dead leg. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Hey, offense-wise, Chicago had 552 total yards. Yeah. They ran the ball 39 times. Hey, fake running backs great again.
Starting point is 01:05:42 DeR.J. Swift, y'all just paid him. That's dope. That's what I like to see. Yeah, he had to get down the ground. A 2191 yards 7.5 a carry Jesus yeah he had a good six question touchdowns right Dej J Swift 18 carries 124 yards three touchdowns fantasy owners y'all should pay that man now put him in yeah put them oh yeah oh hey hey hey this ex-mizelle cash up normal or something bro drama or something yeah yes and swift did sign a three of the 300 I mean 33.75 million
Starting point is 01:06:18 with 27.5 guarantee. Yeah, and he returned on investment today. I think I thought he did a great job carrying the football. Um, and just making guys missing open space. You know what I mean? He was a big. Oh, yes. Yeah, he was a big reason for, for, for their win today.
Starting point is 01:06:35 Um, but let's go to Carolina. Um, we talked about that Carolina team being very close, right? They have deep playoff run, um, last year, well, in the wild card, right? And they took the Rams down to overtime to the second. We think Bryce Young is close. Again, I think he's here as well. But at the same time, like, when I look at Carolina, I'm just thinking to myself, it's like,
Starting point is 01:07:04 what's holding his team back? Is it the youth? Is it the defense? Like, like, I can't pinpoint, like, what's stopping them from just going over the hump. I think it's boat, right? I think it's boat. I think it's the youth. Also,
Starting point is 01:07:24 the Panthers' defense couldn't stop a damn leak in the boat, man. But also, does that, maybe they couldn't, but does they make the best, does the bad have one of the top offenses in the lead, too? Let's talk about that.
Starting point is 01:07:37 Yeah. Like, to me right now, I think the bears are favorite after coming off an extraordinary season they had last year. Well, well, you heard Ben Johnson. I heard Ben Johnson after the game doing the press conference say they want to have the highest scoring offense in the history of the game. And the last team that did something like that was the Denver Broncos.
Starting point is 01:08:07 I think it was like 37 points per game. So it'll be interesting to see how they could hold up to that standard. But at the same time, it came out and drop a 50 piece today. 50 ball Jamal but also are we going to be having Ben Johnson naming the same brother as Kyle Shanahan Sean McVee I don't listen listen I wouldn't say not now I wouldn't say not now but yeah I just don't want people to ever forget because his days in Detroit was electric where Detroit with the place Detroit had got to with with going down to San Francisco and playing for the NSC championship,
Starting point is 01:08:49 they should have been in the Super Bowl. What Ben Johnson and Dan Campbell did what Jared Golf needs to be studied. Jared Golf coming from the Rams, he had one, two good season, and then I was counting out. He was done. Yeah. He was done.
Starting point is 01:09:06 I was done with Jared Goff. You know, I think people were done. But when you look at what Ben Johnson has done, and now he has, a more electric flying player like a Caleb Williams, who's a dual threat quarterback, who understands the game on all three levels. You know, I don't think his comment...
Starting point is 01:09:29 Go to sleep, girl. I got school tomorrow. Get your eyes out of here. I don't think Ben Johnson's comment about having the best offense in the history of football is inappropriate. I think he could be done. He got the weapons.
Starting point is 01:09:42 He's the right guy calling the plays. I think he, hey, why not aim high? And guess what? Shout out to my dog, a QB, Caleb Williams, but you came out and dominated. Not only that, not only that, he was on the MVP cover. He was on the cover of Madden.
Starting point is 01:10:03 On the cover of Madden. Keep doing your thing. Yeah. You got a fan. I've been a fan since he was in college. Keep doing anything. Keep showing him to Armstrong. MVP performers.
Starting point is 01:10:13 Yeah. Not only that, bro, the NFC South teams, they all lost it. Really? All four NFC South teams lost a day. Is this the worst division in football? Damn. See, I don't know, because, you know, when I was there, we was dominating shit. Man, it's hard to say because, like I said.
Starting point is 01:10:37 It's week one. It's week one, too. And Tampa played a tough Joe Barrow team. Joe Barrow looked at great today. and the Bengals defense looked at good as well. Obviously, those four turnovers, or three turnovers hurt Tampa. So I don't know.
Starting point is 01:10:53 I think Tampa definitely beat Atlanta. It just was a tough day for the NFC side. I'm just going to be honest with you. You know, two of the games, well, all three games came down to at least, what, one score besides the Chicago, Carolina game. You know, most of the teams in NFC South lost by, you know, less than 10 points. So it'll be interesting to see how they respond. But this makes the division
Starting point is 01:11:19 interesting to me. It tells me that Carolina can score with the best of them. It tells me that New Orleans ain't going away. It also tells me that Tampa is who they say they are minus the turnovers and that Atlanta is going to finish last, period, with or without tour. Okay. I agree. Listen, we got a couple of quick hits, y'all. Yeah. Philly beats Washington 24-22. Hey, close game. Close game.
Starting point is 01:11:50 Um, Sequine looks good. Jalen looked it well. He played well. Defense was a defense. That's all I'm gonna say. Yeah. Uh, anything you want us to talk about on that? Uh, I think, I thought it was a good game, man.
Starting point is 01:12:04 Like, like, you mentioned, um, Sequan playing, sayquan playing good. I think, I think Jayden Daniels played good. Stefan Dix looked at good in his first, his, his first outing. It'll be interesting to see how they, how they build off of it. And, and again, Washington had a chance to win this game. They called a two-point play. David Blow, first-time officer coordinator.
Starting point is 01:12:32 I think he wanted to say he's like 31 years old, 32 years old. So he's younger than us. He's called him play his NFL game. I thought he did a great job in his first outing. But if you look at the play on the two-point conversion, the running back in the flat was wide open. You could tell that in practice, they only rep this one way, the ball going to one person, opposed to like, reading it out. And I think that that's something that hurt, hurted their chances of winning this game or at least tying it up. But, you know, Jelen hurts.
Starting point is 01:13:00 He did enough not to lose this game. Devante Smith showed up when it mattered. And Philly's defense, give him credit, man. And they, they, big fan Gio, he's been a number one defense builder since the, for the last four or five years. He even did find a way to do it here in Miami. So again, man, you got to give the champs credit. They won a tough one inside of the division. And, and, you know, they got to just keep on backing it up, week in and week out.
Starting point is 01:13:26 It was a good, it was a good opening game for them, though, like, as far as like the matchup and how close it was. I mean, it tells you how tight that division is going to be. Okay. Vikings beat Green Bay. Carson Wentz after Calamore goes down. Hey, there's nothing like having a guy would experience. Carson Wentz. Carson Wentz. Man, did you see the hit on Calla Murray, bro? Hey, bros. But tell me this, the player that hit him, bro, he kind of like went all the way low to the ground like to like, like he wasn't trying to protect Collier. at no point.
Starting point is 01:14:07 But you can't blame him, blame the NFL, right? It was a lot of, to me, I think it would be shady hits when guys catching the, catching the ball with their back turn, you aim and straight for his legs. Like what? Yeah. To me personally, I don't respect that. I'm a type of guy. You never want to see nobody get hurt, but don't do it.
Starting point is 01:14:27 To me, that's foolish shit. You know what I'm saying? Understand, know how to tackle, also protect each other. Guess what? Once he hurt, you hurt, the lead don't care about you. over it. Yeah. Next man up. Always have that mentality to take care, take care of yourself and the guys you plan against. I felt, I felt like the Collar Murray hit was, was, was, could have been prevented. I think it could have been prevented. I think, I think just by the guy that came from behind them and
Starting point is 01:14:54 wrapped them up up top, okay, I see that being, you know, fair as square, but the guy that collar was approaching, I think it was number seven for the Green Bed Packers, man, he literally load his body to the ground and still initiated contact forward from my understanding. And I just think that it could have been prevented. You know, and at that point, too, man, it's like, I'm just going to call a spade of spade, bro. And if I was on that field, I know Justin Jefferson went and picked up Kalamari Helmut and, you know, said a little prayer.
Starting point is 01:15:29 Man, if I was on that field, I'm at buddy neck. Like, and I don't mean, again, like, and I don't mean. know, and I don't, again, like, and I don't mean no disrespect here. Like, again, I'm talking behind a mic on a camera. I totally understand that. But like, but like as a leader on a team and I see that happen to my quarterback, oh, I'm going to get a, I'm going to get a personal file to all set this right now. 100%. I'm going to fill away. There's, there's no, there's no way that that wasn't avoidable, especially knowing Kalamari. He's a slaughter. He, you know what I mean? Like the situation didn't even, what isn't even supposed to go that far?
Starting point is 01:16:06 Like it wasn't even supposed to happen like that. You know what I mean? But you as a player, right? If you saw somebody hit Brady like that. Oh, listen, listen. I got a film out there. You could bump my, you can talk crazy as my quarterback. I'm on your ass.
Starting point is 01:16:22 I'm on your ass like grass. I haven't even going to lie to you. So protect your quarterbacks as the best way y'all can. Yeah. And, I mean, we're going to move on from that. Yeah. And praise up for, praise up for Carla Murray. Definitely.
Starting point is 01:16:32 But you mentioned Carson Wins. He did come in the game. And he did what he had to do. It was rough for him early in the beginning. But being at Carson Wins had been there. He took over for, you know, J.J. McCarthy last year, right? He's been in the same offense. I think he was the right guy to step in.
Starting point is 01:16:52 And look, we saw Drew Locke come and do it opening night against the Patriot. I think Carson Wins is another good as example of that. And another good example of why teams always need to have a good backup. Like, not two left-handers as a starter in a backup. Not two injury-prone quarterbacks that can't make it to week one. You go get you a backup that you could count on. You go get you a Case Keenham. You go get you a Carson-Wince.
Starting point is 01:17:22 You go get you a Justin Fields. And I know, speaking on the quarterback situation, how do you think J.J. McCarthy felt? Who cares? Who cares? You had the job. It was your job. We had to go get another thing about this. We had to go get somebody else.
Starting point is 01:17:47 It was your job. Who cares how he feels? Only thing I said to JJ McCarthy is, listen, keep Sam Donald in mind. Keep Sam Donald's career in mind. As a quarterback in this league, as long as you can spin it, make good decisions, manage the game, you're going to have a chance.
Starting point is 01:18:07 At some point, whether that's in Minnesota or somewhere else. But as far as how he felt tonight, I don't care how he felt tonight. I hope he was ready if something would have happened to Carson wins. I don't even know if they had three quarterbacks up. Maybe we'd have saw Justin Jefferson as the emergency quarterback. Right? Please, no, no. I mean, I saw Justin throw.
Starting point is 01:18:25 Justin could throw a little bit. Yeah, he could throw, but come on, you know, my quarterback in the NFL is a little different. No, truthfully, truthfully, but I thought, I thought it started with Justin Jefferson on the off-sides penalty that they let turn into a free play. And Carson Wentz found Justin Jefferson and he scored. And from there, then blind, Blonde Flores turned up the heat. He started getting after Jordan Love, making Jordan Love uncomfortable. Jordan Love started throwing picks, bad throws, getting sack, sack fumble.
Starting point is 01:18:58 And those things turned into more points for Minnesota. I thought Minnesota started the game slow. obviously everything happening with Kalamari, but I thought they finished. Like you wouldn't even think that that game, you wouldn't even look at the score and think that Minnesota was down at any point in that game. There's no shortcut for saving time,

It's called reading. So you're, so we don't like to use that word anymore. Okay. A panel of New Yorker cartoonists. Have you guys done Terry Gross's Peloton class? No. I've been dying too. I'm so sorry. No way.
Starting point is 01:20:14 You have to come to the last bookstore though. Kim Cottrell is reading the guitar tabs of yesterday. A panel of Eurovision participants. And we do a little Halloween sometimes. Does the Pope dress up? He winks on Halloween. He gets right up next to the microphone. I hear you can almost hear the eyelashes hit.

Middle school is a different world than the one we grew up in. I'm Dr. Joy and this is therapy for black girls. We spend real time on it in our surviving middle school run, bringing in a child psychologist and a psychiatrist who's raising two black girls of his own to talk about what's really going on with our kids right now.
Starting point is 01:21:07 So it's literally physiological and neurological and psychological chaos happening all this same time. We got into group chats and gaming, friendships and bullying, and how to tell the difference between healthy monitoring and the kind of surveillance that erodes trust. There's belonging. You could think of belonging as,
Starting point is 01:21:24 I can be myself and I can still be accepted, and then there's fitting in. Spitting in says, I have to change who I am in order to avoid rejection. Then we turn the conversation toward the fathers, sitting down with therapist Keer Gaines on Black fatherhood and what it means to raise a daughter through this stage. You don't have more shorts, so you can't do flips.
Starting point is 01:21:43 You have on the dressy, you have to cross your legs. That's the range of this run, from screen time to identity to the fathers doing the work at home. We have to get off our device, but the reality is there's a lot of life out there that we don't want you as your adults in their lives to miss out on. This has been our surviving middle school run. Brought to you by the people who spend their careers thinking about exactly this.
Starting point is 01:22:05 I'm Dr. Joy. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Self Care September is here, which means it's time to rethink what self-care actually means. Yes, self-care can be a long walk. It can be in everything shower. It can be putting your phone on Do Not Disturb. But sometimes it's actually about sitting with the uncomfortable stuff. and understanding your patterns, your boundaries,
Starting point is 01:22:30 finally figuring out while you keep doing things that you swore you would never do again. I'm Gemma Spag, the host of the Psychology of Your 20s podcast, and each week we unpack the psychology behind the experiences that shape your 20s, from relationships and friendships to money, anxiety, confidence, attachment, just becoming more comfortable with who you are. Unlike the quarter-life crisis, which is depicted as the collapse, the quarter-life reinvention is the expansion and growth of something. When we develop the ability to be happy by ourselves, nobody else can take that from you.
Starting point is 01:23:02 So this self-care September, don't just take care of yourself. Get to know yourself as well. Listen to the psychology of your 20s on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Man, can we talk about Aaron Rogers on the podcast, man? Man, he ain't it all, ain't? He claims his ex-fiance and Miss Woolley told him days after he proposed in December 2020 that she needed to be with another man before they married.
Starting point is 01:23:30 What did you think that meant? I don't know, either Aaron ain't putting it down. Oh, she's missing that old thing. You know what I'm saying? Man. They said she took the ring off by March and rejected her account that he caused her depression by leaving.
Starting point is 01:23:48 I'm going to be real. You coming on national television and admitting somebody you wanted to be your your wife, she wanted to go deep-teeth diver, swimming with the fishers with somebody else. That's crazy. Listen, I would never say no shit like that. I'm being real.
Starting point is 01:24:08 Like, what? A-Rah, he's taking all the gloves, man. He's taking the gloves off, man. Listen, bro. How would you say it? See, God bless the truth. Hey, I'll be real. I haven't got no...
Starting point is 01:24:24 Listen, bro, listen, bro. man, bro. Man, why just- If I decide to marry you and you talk about, you want another man to come bigger you before we get married? Yeah. Man, listen, words can't explain, bro. I haven't got no words.
Starting point is 01:24:40 I'm gonna be real. I'm gonna be straight up with you. Yeah. After that, I probably will never propose to nobody after that. Yeah. I mean, I don't even make that say. You can't even say nothing to that. What you're telling me.
Starting point is 01:24:56 What you're going through with the marriage though? Hell, what? Hell no. So when she said that, it was over immediately. But listen, I probably got my sisters to whoop her ass. You won't play with my heart, my feelings? Right, right. Look, look, stay right here.
Starting point is 01:25:17 I'm gonna show you something. Man, I don't, bro. I don't know, bro. That's some weird shit. That's tough. I think, do you think Aaron is like, at this point in his life that he's just, you know what, man, like, I want to be free of it all. Like, I've been made out to be the villain with Danica. I was made out to be a villain in every
Starting point is 01:25:38 relationship. I've been made to seem like I was crazy. But like- He's fed up. Maybe he was holding all that stuff in. Yeah. And now he's like, you know what? Fuck it. Let it out. Man, I'm airing it out. I'm airing it out. Oh, you're treating me like this. I'm gonna let you know how you, I'm airing you out. But me personally, being real, bro. I would not let no shit like that. I come out, I'm out. Yeah, I mean. I'm not a mention of nothing like that.
Starting point is 01:26:05 So, fuck that. Maybe that's the therapy. Maybe it's therapeutic form. You know? Fuck that. Maybe he was, but think about this though, Leonard, like, I mean, you hold stuff in. I hold stuff in to this day.
Starting point is 01:26:18 But not nothing like that, though. Not to, like, come on, bro. It's obviously care for this woman. And I don't know if it's true or not, but. I have heard of it. I haven't heard that is not true. But for her to admit that she wanted another man, D&D smoked sausage. Verone sausage.
Starting point is 01:26:39 What the fuck? Hey, all right. Listen, bro. Hey, Aaron, do you think this year, bro? I'm glad you're your mind clear. You're not going to the cave. It led to a win today. Yeah, so it is what it is.
Starting point is 01:26:52 The stillers won today. Yeah. They won today. You know, maybe Aaron is feeling lighter. He's feeling freer. You know what I'm saying? And listen, I'm going to give a major shout out to the real slingers who got the ex-girls still wanting them. Shout out to all of all of real slingers who still got their little old works chasing them.
Starting point is 01:27:12 You know what I'm saying? Keep doing you. Yeah. Keep doing it. Yeah. I'm going to retarded. Also, Texas upset Ohio State. I knew what's going to happen.
Starting point is 01:27:24 I knew what's going to happen. Bro, I turn the game off. I woke up this morning. and I take my phone, I couldn't believe it. Lenny Knows Ball. Hey, but listen, I don't know why you turned the game off, bro. Archie Manning, right, despite of the throws he made, the decisions he's made, he's known for coming back. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:27:45 It's something that's be on the lookout for this Texas team, and we play Texas this year, right? We're going to whoop the ass. I don't know what's going to have. Listen, me and Kevin, me and Kevin the around, I got a back going. I'm not going, you know. Yeah. We got a nice look back going, but they need more, Ohio State need more guys to just
Starting point is 01:28:02 JJ. Yeah. I mean, JJ got the ball enough. JJ was making crazy ass catches, but as you know, as you know when I'm not going to say the lights got brighter, he was dropping a lot of passes too. Maybe that's from fatigue, because you know, as well I
Starting point is 01:28:18 receive, you're all running a lot. You have to be in shape, but it was force-feeding JJ sometimes. And two-man coverage. They were trying to... Double team. Yeah, yeah, you're trying to win. You want your five-star players to make five-star plays, but you need other guys to step
Starting point is 01:28:35 up, right? When we played, right, it wasn't just Lennifernet and Javas making plays. You had guys like Scotty Miller who made plays who was unexpectedly making plays. Yeah. So Ohio State, I don't know what y'all need to do. Shake back, shake it off, right? Y'all are lucky it's not the old and the, SEC football where or college football, you get one loss, you're out.
Starting point is 01:28:59 You're out. So you might have one or two losses, but understand this. Man, Archie Man, it is a nightmare against a lot of teams. Yeah. He made some throws early on when I did have the game going. He made some throws early on that I was very much, very impressed with. And then one was a drop that we should have been a touchdown. And the other one.
Starting point is 01:29:23 Oh, yeah. Yeah. The wire the receiver. Oh my, hey, that type of shit right there? He dove and the ball popped off his bicep and man. Oh my God. I don't know. I don't know what I would have, I don't know what I would have did.
Starting point is 01:29:40 I damn, I don't know. I don't know. Yeah, that was a tough one. That was a tough one. But when I turned a game off, this is why I turned it off actually. I turned it off because it seemed like if Archie Manning wasn't throwing to it. first target, he was making mistakes. Or he was throwing a ball like wildly in the vicinity of people, but never to a receiver, like never actually hitting guys. And I'm just looking at Ohio
Starting point is 01:30:08 State Office and looking at how JJ is, you know, catching the football down the field and how easy they're running the football as in Ohio State. And I'm like, man, this game is over. And lo and behold, I woke up the next morning, Lenin, and I was like, I ate my words because I looked at the score and I was like, wow, they didn't score a point since the third quarter. And Texas came running back. Like, it's crazy. I was shocked. But it also tells me this Texas team, you know, yeah, they may have some fight in them, but, you know, I don't know how they're going to fare against LSU based on how LSU looked against Latech because I wouldn't happy with that shit either.
Starting point is 01:30:52 But also, let's be real. We all know we played against teams like a lot tag. No. Yeah, listen, listen. Well, when I was there, we started off shitty. It's being frank with you. As always, that's always been a thing at LSU. Started off shitty, they picked it up.
Starting point is 01:31:08 It is what it is. I don't have no doubt in my mind that when it comes to the big boy games, we're going to handle our business and do our thing from the start to the finish. I didn't like what I saw. Right, right. No, for sure, it's always that. But I didn't like what I saw because I felt like we had too much momentum coming up in a clenstment game to start so slow. And like not only start so slow, we had three turnovers in the first half.
Starting point is 01:31:33 And it's hard to beat teams like that. It's hard to like, you know, show up against an opponent like, oh, Mr. Next week and have the same level of confidence that you should have had against Clemson. And you're playing Lattec. Like, you know, no offense to Latech. No offense to those teams, smaller schools that we play that's on the schedule to fill a space. Like those are stat games, bro. Those are games where, okay, I'm going from, I know I'm getting my 100 yards.
Starting point is 01:31:57 I get my 200 yard game rushing for you, you know, and then I'm coming out the game. Like, you're trying to get out of those games as fast as possible. And we damn never have to play three quarters for our starters to get out the game. That's not good, bro. I didn't like that. And Lane showed the frustration. I think Lane's going to get it fixed and corrected. And Lane needs to go in there and tell them, and I'm sure he is.
Starting point is 01:32:20 If y'all play it like this next Saturday, y'all gonna get your ass kick, period. And speaking on next Saturday, it's gonna get messy. It's gonna get real. I'm excited. I was happy about the defense, though. I thought they're gonna fly around. Lights out.
Starting point is 01:32:38 They're gonna fly around regardless. Offense and in the past history of LSU besides the Juba and the era, offense has always been the slow guy, the slow starter. Yeah. I mean, I was thinking that you would see the weakness of the team in a way against Clemson. And LSU looked at a lot more balanced against Clemson, offenses, defenses, special teams. And last night against Latech, it just seemed like the offense is the weaker side of the football for us.
Starting point is 01:33:12 Listen, I understand that. We couldn't even run the ball, Lennon? Listen, I understand that. Don't be surprised if LSU blow our oldest. Listen, I ain't scared, but I'm nervous. I ain't nervous at all. See, when you actually dare, I know you're watching it from TV right now because, you know, they've been wanting Mr.
Starting point is 01:33:37 Jarvis' Lance to come back. You know what I'm saying? I don't know when you're going to come back. But the energy that that team brings, the energy that Kiffin brings, let's go play ball. I'm looking forward to it, man. Listen, again, you know I'm a tiger through and through. And I do have real faith and confidence in this team.
Starting point is 01:34:00 But I just worry about how we show up week in and week out. Like our opponent can't dictate how we show up, bro. Like, you know this, man. Like, because we play, like, I remember playing against, like, UAB and like Furman. And it's like, yo, the infamous Odell return. You know what I mean? Like we we got them dogs out at all times
Starting point is 01:34:27 and we putting this shit away quick, early and fast. Like it ain't no none of this, you know, in-state brotherly love. Like that's what it felt like. And, you know, Sam Levitt again, he could spin it. I want him to make better decisions with the football going into this next week. I think they need to figure out how to run the football.
Starting point is 01:34:48 ball early. And if not, and we become a one-dimensional team, Leonard, I'm afraid. I'm just going to let you know. We can't be a one-dimensional football team. That side of who we are, especially in the backfield, we got some good backs, but like, we don't have a fleet of backs of a Leonard Farnett and Darius Geis and, you know, Kenny Hill, your Jeremy Hill, and you don't have a fleet. We got like one, maybe two guys. Like, you know, we got to get that. backfield going, man. So we could play through the play action fake. So we could get some run action going. You know, win some short yardage points, you know? I understand your frustration. Yeah, I'm very frustrated. I was, I was sick watching the game. I was like, man, I was sick. I was sick.
Starting point is 01:35:35 I ain't going to lie. I'm going to keep a spitz fit. But listen, next week, we'll have our popcorn ready and waiting, excited for this game. Yeah. Because guess what? Old Piss never could stop us. ever that's the game i had the infamous the famous 16 carries 284 yards 17. 17.6 yards of carry tree touchdown yeah let's get into that let's let's talk about that talk about it i love oxford was that at home or was that away that was home that was home that was home i remember that that's when you hit that ball on the sideline i and put them through the buried them buried them six feet under put him i bear that ball before cooved he was six feet before cool of it you hear you man what why you put a boy through that earth i remember i remember i remember
Starting point is 01:36:19 being in cleveland watching that game and and everybody was like bruh ain't no way he should be out there playing with them little boys i was like bro listen he'll be up here next year he'll be up this last year of college football but like people were so amazed that like this dude big as hell he running fast as here running people over like this like this man is a grown man out there playing with these little boys that's that that that was the conversations in the in the Cleveland Browns locker room after that old miss game yeah but can you talk about like can you talk about after you ran them over because you ran them over on their sideline like did did anybody on their side line say like oh shit uh listen uh when uh when the when the when the when the
Starting point is 01:37:04 mega trine the big jumbo trine they paid they played the replay from the whole stadium see oh like right it was like a big ass bomb went off or something I'm like, damn. Like I told you, after the game, like, this was when the memes, the memes first started happening, bro. They got the man buried with a tombstone on top of him, everything.
Starting point is 01:37:24 I told him, bro, like, bro, don't worry about that shit. This football, da-da-da. He's like, I'm good. Next thing, no, he transferred. I'm like, damn. He transferred. He went to Houston. Yeah, he went to Houston.
Starting point is 01:37:33 Man, you sent the man through the Earth another team? Not me, brother. Man, I don't know what happened, bro. But listen. He probably couldn't get away from that, bro. They probably couldn't get away from that,
