Joy Taylor is joining me.
I said yesterday, I love these Thursday night games.
I had so much fun last night.
I was on The Angry Bird tweeting all the time.
Everybody's throwing stuff.
It's on by him.
How are you?
I'm great. Good morning. Good morning.
It was, you're getting by the holidays. I was sitting down. It was kind of chilly last night,
having a bowl of soup, watching that football game on Thursday night on Fox.
It was an absolute blast one hour from now.
My blazing five picks, as strong a picks as I've had all year.
My blazing five picks coming up in an hour.
You know, we know, right, that Aaron Rogers is great.
Like, I say it all the time, but I'm seen as a Rogers hater because I'm really the only
mainstream media person, print TV, or radio.
Skip Bayliss is pretty tough too
that occasionally mentions
he's not perfect
and I also see this with
Russell Westbrook
that even though I acknowledge he's one of the few people
I'd pay to see in the NBA
Aaron Rogers fans have become Russell
Westbrook defenders that they're so
spectacular, they're so amazing
their great
is so great
that we fall in love with the beautiful
and we gloss over the
why don't they win more
and I get falling in love with beautiful.
You walk into a room and she's the most beautiful woman you've ever seen.
I get it.
I get falling in love with beautiful, but there better be more or it won't last.
And I get walking into a room and he's the biggest honk and charming,
but there better be more or it won't last.
I get falling in love with his arm, the handsome, I get it.
And the losses are always somebody else's fault.
This morning it's the defense.
Green Bay leads the NFL in Sacks.
They had five last night.
Their secondaries loaded with really talented young players.
It ain't the defense.
The defense got tired at the end because of the offense kept punting.
So let's go to, now it's Mike McCarthy's fault.
So let's go to the two plays.
Everybody's blaming Mike McCarthy.
Number one is he didn't challenge the Lockett catch.
How could he not challenge that catch by Lockett for the Seahaw?
You got challenged that.
Well, two things.
I thought it was a catch.
I wouldn't have challenged it either.
Troy Aikman agree with me.
he thought it was a catch.
Mike Pereira agreed to me.
He thought it was a catch.
And the other thing, it was a first down play.
It wasn't like it was a fourth down.
If you challenge it, overturn it, it's your game.
It was first down play.
It was a first down play.
So if you were racing anyway, this is a second down.
That's the first thing.
Second thing is, well, how come McCarthy didn't go for it on a fourth down?
I wouldn't have gone for it either.
I wouldn't have gone for either.
By the way, it was 420 left in the game.
You had a timeout and a two-minute warning, and you were at your own 33.
even if Seattle gets a first down, you've got the two-minute warning, you get the ball back on the minute.
That's all Russell, that's all Aaron Rogers needs.
Aaron Rogers needs a minute five, 58 seconds, a minute.
We've seen it 100 times.
He didn't need three minutes.
He didn't need four minutes.
He didn't need two minutes.
Green Bay said, listen, if we fail on this fourth down, and by the way, the reason they got into a fourth down,
because Aaron Rogers skipped a ball to a wide-open receiver.
And on that drive previously, he had a wide-open receiver on first down, but held the ball looking for the home run,
even Troy Aikman talked about it.
He throws it back and now throws it away.
Well, I'm not sure exactly what's going on.
They got one-on-one outside, and Rogers had some time.
He had Aaron Jones right in front of him, right over the ball.
I don't know if he just simply couldn't see him or not,
but you can't ask for a whole lot more if you're Aaron Rogers.
And now this one incomplete.
Not a good possession there for Aaron Rogers.
First down, he had a chance for an easy completion over the ball.
Third down, an easy completion in the flat for a first down.
He misses wildly.
It's not the defense.
That's not Mike McCarthy.
That's the drive of the game.
That's it.
That's on Aaron.
By the way, he's now 2 in 10 in his last 12 against all these quarterbacks.
You tell me he's better then.
Matt Ryan, Russell Wilson, Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Tom Brady.
He's 2 in 10.
Jared Goff.
You keep telling me he's better than all these guys.
I got to get more wins.
Brady's last 10, he's 8 and 2, 9 and 1 against those same contemporaries.
I'm not being unfair here.
I'm not being unreasonable.
I'm not saying Aaron Rogers has to win Super Bowls.
I'm not.
I've never said that.
I'm not saying even Aaron Rogers has to get to Super Bowls.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not even saying Aaron Rogers has to get to the NFC championship like Brady every year.
I'm not saying that.
I'm saying, dude, got to win more of these regular.
season games against your contemporaries against the guys as good as you that I keep being told
you're better than by the way Aaron riders this year has beaten Mitchell tribiskey Josh Allen
C.J. Bethard and Brock Osweiler guys who are mostly backups his losses are to Alex Smith
Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Brady and Russell Wilson all I'm asking for just a few more
doubles against the elite quarterbacks I'm not being unreasonable here by the way Aaron
Rogers last two fourth quarters against Brady and Russell Wilson, 42% completions,
82 yards, 62 passer rating, and no touchdowns.
Let me guess.
That's the defense's fault.
That's McCarthy's fault.
McCarthy's brilliant first three quarters, then he's terrible in the fourth.
Is that it?
Troy Aikman's not a guy that likes to criticize quarterbacks.
He doesn't.
Troy Aikman knows his words are powerful.
That last drive, you're all caught up in McCarthy, and the defense didn't stop the Seahawks.
That defense was tired because you kept punting.
the Rogers fans have become Westbrook fans.
You are so enamored with the spectacular, and it is spectacular.
And I would not deny that.
And he is an all-time talent, and Westbrook's an all-time NBA player.
Not denying that.
And I get falling in love with beauty.
But I better have more than that.
Or this is the result, once again, on the road, against a good team, against a contemporary
quarterback, somebody that is of your level, though I've been told over and over, you're better
then. All right. By the way, I have, in less than 10 minutes, I have something that I've never
heard said, a fascinating statistic that Farrv and Rogers have, they're way more similar than you
think. But let me shift to this for a couple minutes. Last night, Carmelo's been shipped out of town for
Houston. So Houston now doesn't have the Carmelo in the locker room. Oh, that's interesting.
Carmelo's out of the locker room for 15 minutes. And James Hardin scored 27 and the
Rockets were out the Warriors. Isn't that interesting? The Rockets, the second they get rid of Mello,
they're right back on track. And also the Warriors, after a couple of days without Steph Curry,
they appear to be falling apart again. They're two and three this year without him.
And after the game, Kevin Durant with no Steph Curry around to lead the team,
Kevin Durant, predictably sensitive, starts getting prickly.
Kevin, with having another game to play and having some dialogue,
how do characters how things are few and three?
Don't ask me about that again.
So two takeaways in this game.
I'm going to talk about one.
First takeaway is, Mello leaves.
Another team gets better immediately.
I don't want to talk about that, though.
I want to talk about the Kevin Durant thing.
Steph Curry's gone for a week, two weeks,
and the team's falling apart.
Once again, we have a trend and a truth.
This is Steph Curry's team.
Kevin Durant is a great player,
and I am not denying that for a second.
He is a talent, but he's not the man.
A-Rod was a talent.
was the man. Harden is a talent. Steph is the man. By the way, since Kevin Durant joined the
Warriors and his missed games due to injury, they're 24 and 3 without him. Kevin Durant is sensitive
to a fault. He is not a leader. It's still Steph's team and that drives the hell out of him.
you would think after all these years we'd figure it out and stop comparing him to LeBron.
But these warriors offer things to Kevin Durant.
We think Durant's going to leave the team and go wherever he wants.
He needs Golden State way more than he thinks.
Because Golden State provides two or three things to Kevin Durant he's not built for.
Steph Curry runs the show.
Kevin Durant's not built for that.
He's a score.
He's a talent.
A Rod's a hitter.
He's a talent.
But Jeter is the rock of the team.
Steph is the rock.
Kevin Durant's not the rock.
Steph provides that buffer.
Second thing is,
Draymond Green is tough and provides the muscle.
Kevin Durant can't do that either.
Again, Kevin Durant needs Steph to be the rock of the franchise,
the leader. He needs Draymond Green to be the muscle. And frankly, he needs Steve Kerr to be the emotional
lubricant, constantly talking KD. Off a Ledge. There is a huge gap between talent and leadership.
LeBron just needs a ball. Kevin Durant needs muscle. He needs a rock. He needs social. He needs social.
lubrication. The guys on TNT said it last night.
Let's listen.
There's two options for Kevin. You either want to get the money or you want to win more
championships. There ain't nothing to talk about it. Well, if they win a championship,
they're going to sign him. You don't, you know, he gets to make that choice.
He's not going to where. What he's saying is, there's impossible.
He can't come up with the name of a player who is on a championship and then left.
And said, I got to leave.
If somebody on your team pissing you off, you will.
No way, man. You're kidding me, man.
I'm like a baby.
So you don't think Kevin Durant is probably the most sensitive superstar we've had in the long time?
No, I don't believe that.
I don't believe that.
I do believe that.
Okay.
That game last night provided two takeaways.
Mello is a locker room cancer.
He leaves.
They're immediately better.
They've solved their issues.
And it also proved that once Steph leaves, the longer he's gone, sort of the bigger emotional mess the warriors become.
They purchased Kevin Durant's talent, and that's what he brings to the table without argument.
But he needs the warriors more than he thinks.
They provide three things he can't.
Leadership, muscle, and emotional stability.
He is the most sensitive star ever.
And it's on display a few days after Steph Curry is hurt.
coming up next once again green band rogers lose our big road game and i'm going to give you a theory on
something because i believe all things happen for a reason i don't believe in fate like if you get
hit by a bus it's not fate you didn't look both ways and you walked into traffic i don't believe in
fate everything happens for a reason and aaron rogers shares a statistic with brett farv and
neither should have this stat.
This should not be part of either of their resumes,
and it bizarrely is.
And I'm going to offer you an explanation why I think it is.
Tell me if I'm wrong, but I believe I'm absolutely right on this.
That's coming up.
Greg Jennings, Peter King.
We have all sorts.
We have NFL guys, former NFL guys, all on the show today.
Welcome back.
Greg Jennings coming up.
Mitchell Swartz, Chiefs offensive linemen, they face the Rams this week.
A Monday Night Football is going to be the best Monday Night football game, I think, in a decade.
I mean, it could be in a decade.
It's going to be the Rams and the Chiefs.
It could be a wild fireworks show.
I believe everything happens for a reason.
I'm not overly religious.
I think I don't believe in fate.
If you're broke at 55, look in the mirror.
It's not somebody else's fault.
If you're on your sixth divorce or your 13th job, look in the mirror.
It's not somebody else's fault.
There's a reason for everything.
If something happens over and over year after year, decade after decade, it's not happenstance.
It's not luck.
There's a reason for everything.
And generally, we're the reason.
We're at fault.
So once again, Aaron Rogers lost on the road.
This year, they're 0 and 5 on the road.
Not all the games have been easy, so I'm not saying that.
But Aaron Rogers is too good to struggle on the road.
And this is fascinating.
Aaron Rogers now has a losing record on the road.
What?
Excuse me?
Aaron Rogers has a losing record on the road.
Let me give you quarterbacks who have a better road record.
We could blame Mike McCarthy.
We can blame the running game in the defense.
But Michael Vic, Andy Dalton, Tony Romo, did they always have great running games, great offensive lines?
They all have a better road record than Aaron Rogers.
That makes no sense.
There is a reason for.
I get a bad year.
I get a bad stretch.
This is a minimum 30 games career.
And what's fascinating is Brett Favre also had a losing road record.
How can two of the top 10 quarterbacks of my life, Joe Montana won 75% of his road games, Brady over 70?
how can they
they have
nothing in common
this cannot be connected
they have nothing in common
I mean one's a good old boy
from the south
and one's that
California cool
aloof guy
oh no no no no no
Aaron Rogers has become
Brett Fav
I want you to think about this
they're both gunslingers
both won a Super Bowl early
and have struggled to get back
both are legendary
Gary Adliber's, home run hitters, big arms, stubborn, above average mobility, multiple MVP's.
Beloved by the media, iconic armed talent of their generation, both are 6-2-225, I'm not making it up,
and both play hurt often.
And neither's good on the road.
Makes no damn sense.
You can't be as good as Brett Farb.
You cannot be as good as Aaron Rogers.
have a worse road record than Alex Smith and Tony Romo and Michael Vic and Cam Newton and it doesn't
make any sense. Oh yes it does. Folks ask yourself when you go on the road, ever gone to Europe
cross country taking the kids? What's really important on the road? You can get away with this at home
but on the road you've got to be organized. You go to Europe with your kids. You've got to be organized.
that maybe stubborn, ad-libbing, do it my way, big-arm talent, seeking home run, is not a good road recipe.
Maybe on the road, more coachable, death by a thousand cuts, more singles and doubles.
Don't allow sacks.
Don't allow them.
Don't get the crowd worked up on the road.
You can have those home runs.
You're better.
Here's guys who are really good on the road.
Breeze, Brady, Montana, Alex Smith, death by a thousand cuts.
Is it possible that Rogers and Fav, gunslingers, share much more in common than we think?
I would argue they do.
On the road, be it a dad, a mom, a quarterback, organization, singles not home,
avoid chaos, even at the risk of a few less home runs, works better.
It works better.
Stability, coachable, death by a thousand cuts, singles and doubles, wins on the road.
Home runs, crowds into it, get people worked up, take more risks, add lib is great at home.
it doesn't serve you as well away from home.
We think Farr and Rogers are,
there's no similarities.
Good old boy from the South and kind of a loof dude from Cali.
But they become each other.
Statistically, personality,
ad lib, stubborn, my way, rely on the home run,
armed talent,
and continue to lose games they should win for their talent on the road.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So, sticking with last night's games,
CenturyLink Field has been a frustrating building for the Packers.
Last night's loss is joining a growing list of painful memories for Packers fans there.
The Fail-Mary game in 2012, the 2014 NFC championship game,
and now a blown fourth quarter league.
So now Aaron wasn't in the best of moods last night.
Oh, I bet he wasn't, yeah.
There are any hope left for this season?
come on, Rob. What kind of question is that?
I don't know. I mean, you can't win on the road. What are you going to be able to do?
I don't even know how to answer that, Rob. I mean, come on, what am I supposed to say?
Of course there's hope. Of course, we believe in each other. You know, we're just going to take one galvanizing moment.
So whether that's a speech or practice or something happens in the game, something's got to get this thing going.
Actually, in that moment, let me give Aaron Roger.
There's credit in that moment.
He's being very human.
He's being incredibly authentic.
I don't want a phony answer.
Aaron's like he has a relationship with that reporter.
And it's a real relationship.
And Aaron probably tells him things.
And that reporter asks something.
And Aaron didn't love it.
I'm going to defend Aaron on that.
That was an authentic response for a frustrated quarterback who has a real relationship.
And he's telling a friend, a guy he trusts, who he tells things probably off the record and on.
He's probably saying, come on, bro, you're killing me here.
Well, I mean, it's one of those questions that's like I'm okay with it being asked, but it's also kind of like...
It's tough.
Like, how do you feel?
Like, it's like asking like after a big gloss, how do you feel?
Like, obviously, I don't feel good.
I have no problem with the way that Aaron reacted.
I don't ever have a problem.
People get emotional about something that they invests, I don't know, their entire lives into.
I do whoever think it's going to take more than a galvanizing moment to get this team to where they need to be.
And if you look at the playoff picture right now, I mean,
I mean, they're under 500, and their playoff hopes are rapidly fading.
Yeah.
Listen, they are through the toughest stretch, though.
Now, they do play.
They play the Vikings next on the road.
Yeah, that's not easy, nor is Chicago.
But they don't have to go to New England.
Right.
They don't have to go to the Rams.
The Falcons at home and the lions at home.
Yes.
They do have to go to the bears and the jets, which, you know,
expecting to beat the jets.
Last night felt a little bit like an elimination game.
But I let me just see.
Minnesota. Like it does feel
like an elimination game for Green Bay.
But just
let me see the Minnesota game
and then we can officially end it. But
there's a lot of things, I've got to tell you something.
Their pass rush is outstanding, Green Bayes.
They have some really
good young players. Some rookies
and second year guys. That roster's
got a lot of good young talent.
It's not unthinkable. They can win
five straight. It's not.
Will that be enough?
Well, we'll see, but it's not unthinkable.
Well, anyone who watched the Warriors 10786 lost to the Rockets last night
could probably tell you that they weren't themselves.
The Warriors could not make a shot.
And it was their first game that Jemond Green and Kevin Durant played together
since their altercation.
And after the game, Steve Kerr explained that the team is still struggling emotionally.
We're banged up a little bit physically, and right now we're banged up spiritually.
I mean, there's no getting around that.
So we've got to fill up our cup and get our spirit back, get our energy back.
And we're going to.
It's a long, long season.
And it's a tough stretch we're dealing with.
But I know our guys.
One of the hardest things to do after an incident like that is to get back onto a positive playing space.
It's a positive mental space.
that's what he's talking about. Now, while Draymond and Kevin Durant may have settled this and they
may be at peace with the situation, the rest of the team may not be. There can still be some disruptive
feelings in that locker room that don't include Draymond and Kevin Durant. And Steph is still injured.
So there's a lot of, there's a lot of things like going on here. Like he's talking about their
bang up physically, which they are. Yeah, but it comes down to this again. Once again,
Steph's not playing and very quickly they unravel emotionally.
That's why Kevin Durant's a talent.
He's not an emotional leader.
He's not a leader.
He's a talent.
I don't think that's an unfair thing to say about Kevin Durand.
By the way, that's 90% of great players are not LeBron, or not Jeter, or not Brady.
They're just great talent.
90% of athletes.
And even still, even with LeBron being, I think, is a consensus of a good leader.
There's still people that have a hard time playing with him because being on that level
means that you have another level of scrutiny, another level of expectations.
No warrior hit a three-pointer on the night, at first for Golden State,
since March of 2013.
That's the 2073 days since a warrior has not hit a three-pointer in a game.
So there's something going on there.
Finally, the Rockets officially decided to end the Mello experiment in Houston yesterday.
His fit in Houston never really worked.
Ultimately, it didn't work out.
And here is Mike D. Antony on the decision.
I think in the summer we tried to hit a home run and didn't work out.
And he tried everything he could.
He was great while I was here.
and just didn't, you know, just didn't work out for whatever reason.
And, you know, I was just thanking for his professionalism.
It was good.
You know, he tried, he tried everything we could to make it work and just didn't work out.
They went four and six in the ten games that he appeared in.
And the losses were horrible.
You know, while this is obviously a disaster for Houston,
I don't think that Carmelo has handled it in an unprofessional manner.
No.
And Houston's been very respectful of him.
And he's actually going to remain on the Rockets roster.
He's not going to rejoin the team.
But according to Woj's sources, he's going to be on the roster and just kind of wait it out and see what, you know, what injuries happen throughout the season or what trades are made.
And then probably end up finding another spot.
A sports book in Vegas increased the chances of the Houston Rockets making the playoffs by almost 25% after he's moved.
I mean, it wasn't working.
It never works with him anywhere.
The Knicks got good for a minute when he left.
Denver was fine.
Denver's in great shape now.
Nicks have a little optimism.
Houston now's good suddenly.
I mean, you have to evolve.
At some point, it's him.
At some point, Joy with the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lie News.
All right, let's go via the Coward Global Satellite Network.
The former Packer, Greg Jennings, is now joining us.
Okay, it's another road game, and it's another struggle.
I want to, you know, I'm not going to blame anybody.
All I've ever said is Aaron deserves some of the heat.
Even Troy Ackman said it last night on that final drive.
He skipped a ball.
I don't think McCarthy's Sean McVeigh.
The defense let him down at the end.
But let's just be honest, Greg.
He did not have a great final drive.
Is that fair for me to say?
100% fair and 100% accurate.
We all witnessed that game and that final drive.
And it wasn't the Aaron Rogers that we thought we would see.
And I think this is what people.
have to understand about a guy like Aaron Rogers. Is he great? Absolutely. Would I take him as one of
the best quarterbacks to ever play this game? Yes. But he thrives on off-scheduled plays.
Yes. That's always been who he is. So when you have a as as as simple as that one, two,
three-step out route was, he never, that's never been his strength. He can do it as best as
all the rest of the guys, but he doesn't do it as frequently. So sometimes you are going to get
those errant throws because that's not the way he goes about his business. He's an off-schedual
guy who enjoys and likes to extend plays, which adds pressure on defenders and forces them to cover
a little bit longer, which creates a higher opportunity for penalties down the field in the
passing game. So it wasn't shocking, but it is a little alarming if you're the pack.
Two issues, and I've said this, Aaron gets hit a lot.
The two quarterbacks in the league that take shots a lot, Cam Newton and Aaron,
but Cam is built for those collisions, 6-6-25.
Aaron's 6-2-215.
He's going to be 35.
He just got done wearing a brace.
There were three or four times last night.
You talked about unscheduled plays.
Is it time?
I understand it's cool to drive a motorcycle, but at some point, after the third wreck,
it's time to buy a car?
is it time for Aaron to be a little more of a pocket guy going forward?
Because last night he got smoked three or four times.
Well, he talks about playing until he's in his 40s.
And I just don't see it happening if he remains as mobile and outside of the pocket
heavy as he has always been throughout his career.
As long as he wants to play, he's going to have to start confining his game
and fine-tuning his game to where he can stay within the pocket
and he can literally dissect you within the pocket,
which he's fully capable of doing.
Yes, absolutely.
Yes.
But he does not like to stay within that for whatever reason.
He's more comfortable, more electrifying, more exciting outside the pocket.
Yeah, I think it's a great point.
We had somebody on this week that said, and they love Aaron Rogers,
they said Brady's won Super Bowls with these like death by a thousand
and cut drives, would Aaron be patient enough in his Super Bowl to do that?
He is so great.
You know, it's almost Chris Carter.
Chris Carter, the great Chris Carter said this once to me.
It's almost biblical.
If you were born with a great singing voice, you're going to want to sing in the shower,
in your car.
If you had an arm like Aaron Rogers, Greg, you'd want to show it off, wouldn't you?
100%.
Again, this is, I remember playing with the Packers and hearing some of the comments from
opposing defensive coordinators
and their mission
was or their game plan
was keep everything in front of him
force him to take it down the field
dinking and dunking,
taking checkdowns,
taking the 10-yard hitches
and all these passes that
you can live by,
but you can bend but not break.
Can't, will he continue to do that?
No.
Aaron is going to want to throw the ball down the field.
Yep.
Show off that arm.
That's his strength.
Yeah.
But he also, I think what he has to understand, and he knows this, is that as long as the ball is
in my hand and I can execute and dissect you five yards here, six yards here, seven yards,
you're going to be successful.
I thought last night the Packers did a horrible job of going away from Aaron Jones,
whether it was in the running game or in the past.
So did I.
He was where I totally agree.
Okay, I got a hit on this thing too.
This thing bothers me.
People think I reach for this.
But I do believe you can talk without talking.
Your mannerisms, your eye-rolling.
I call it the death stare.
Aaron Rogers, when he signed that new contract,
his teams are going to be younger this point forward.
They can't afford big free agents,
and Green Bay has never been a free agent destination.
Aaron doled out about three death stares last night to those young receivers.
I think it matters.
I think it creates resentment.
You and I think have talked about this,
before. He did it again last night.
This is something I think he has to work on a little.
People say I'm reaching on this. Your takeaway.
No, I don't think you're reaching on this.
It's something that he has to be mindful of because what we saw last night,
he has a lot of talent around him.
Whether people want to agree to that or not, these guys are talented.
They're just not on the same level.
football IQ and knowledge and
experience as he is. The only guy
on that football field that he trusts
like that is a Devante Adams. So you won't see
him give that stare to him. But everyone else
he'll give it to. And why I don't like it is because
they're not in position to give it back. That's the reason
why I don't like it. When we were there and we had all
these receivers, Donald Driver, myself, James Jones,
you're Michael. We all, we had an opportunity to play with Brett Farr. We were successful with
Brett Farr. So then you come in and now you want, you're trying to build on that success. So now
we're, we're going to hold you accountable. You look at us with big eyes. We're going to look
at you with big eyes. He has, he has no one in that locker room that's willing to do that. You have
Randall Cobb that's there, but he's not planned. And I get, you're in my state farm commercial. So you better
keep your mouth shut. You have Devonte Adams, who that's the only go-to guy he has. So they have a
great rapport. I just, I don't care for it because on that last drive, it could have easily been
one of those guys giving him that same dust. Really, really, really, really good point. Greg Jennings,
10 years, Super Bowls, Pro Bowls. I love your, I love your Packer Room at your house. I love your
football room. That is so cool. Greg, great stuff as always, buddy. Thank you.
Appreciate it. All right.

I think it's fun don't take it personally
fans tend to take it a little personally
but this is fun this is what we do
and and there's been this thing that pops
up every time the Warriors win and Durant
is the MVP of the finals for
like five days. It's like, told you. Katie's
Baron LeBron. No, he's not. In the last
week, another example of why LeBron provides
so much more is so much deeper his resume than Kevin Durant.
Steph Curry gets hurt, leaves, and the Warriors
are a mess instantly.
LeBron comes to a team that was a mess for four or five years.
The Lakers, and now they're good, and they're playing well. And they
beat the second best team in the West again, second time this year.
Okay, listen, I went to the Lakers this week.
LeBron provides points, leadership.
He's a part-time GM.
He's a full-time coach.
He elevates others.
I get the smartest guy in the league, the IQ, the points, the rebounds.
LeBron is offering so much more.
Kevin Durant provides points.
LeBron four times has entered a crappy team, a team that's a mess, and immediately they're good.
Cavaliers out of high school, Miami, Cleveland again, and now the Lakers.
Lakers were a train wreck for four years.
Four for four, and they're good within a month.
He has also left three of those teams.
Cleveland, Miami, Cleveland.
And they're a shipwreck overnight.
Four for four, three for three.
Kevin Durant leaves Oklahoma City
still a playoff team
still exciting to watch
he goes to Golden State
they want a title without him
they want a title with him they're better
but once again
he's battling the media
battling Draymond
team is two and three without Steph
it's like Chris Broussard said
they're both great players
LeBron's a different level
it's the way he controls
the game
when Steph's not there
Kevin Durant plays like LeBron,
but he can't control a game like LeBron.
He can't.
He doesn't.
LeBron controls everything, the coaching.
He got Tyson Chandler here.
He was the other night when I watched him in person.
Good seats, by the way.
He was the best rebounder.
He had a key block.
He had a key basket.
He hit key free throws.
He was the best shooter.
He had the best vision.
One provides a multitude of gifts.
one's a great score, and that matters, but don't compare the two.
This last week is another example of the depth and the scope of LeBron's greatness
and the liabilities and flaws in Kevin Durant's resume.
Let me go back to the Packers Seahawks.
Blazing five, top of the hour, think the best picks I've had all year.
Blazing five, top of the hour, my NFL picks, plus Mitchell Schwartz,
Chiefs offensive linemen, smart funny guy,
Jeff Schwartz brother, Jeff comes on the show, former NFLer,
brothers, he plays for the Chiefs, his brother, Mitchell, he'll be joining us live,
John Coon, former Packer, fullback on the show today, Peter King, Jason McIntyre.
So is it me or does Aaron Rogers take too many hits?
Now Russell Wilson scrambles all the time, but never seems to get hit.
And I'm watching Aaron last night, and he gets sacked, he gets hit,
and he is wincing last night multiple times.
And, and I've said this.
I understand why certain guys like to drive a motorcycle.
I get it.
It's cool.
Women like it.
There's a sex appeal.
It's fast.
It's nimble.
You can get through traffic.
I get it.
I get guys who ride motorcycles to work.
But after a couple crashes or you have kids, it's time to, it's time to buy a car and get off the motorcycle.
Aaron Rogers, he loves Hero Ball.
he's driving that motorcycle.
The longer he hold it,
the more he can show off that arm.
Aaron, it's time to ditch the motorcycle.
It's time to buy a minivan.
Okay, stay in the pocket.
He's 35 in a month.
He wore a brace this year for two months.
I still don't think he's 100%.
It's time to get off the motorcycle.
And I get the motorcycle.
I do. I get it.
I've known guys who drive
the motorcycle. Fly through traffic, get to work faster. Be honest, that guy's a bad blank.
That guy, you know, you kind of look cool. I get it. I get all the motorcycle stuff.
But if you're getting in a wreck once a year, you're banging into a car once a year,
or you have to explain to your bosses, I can't come into work today. I ripped up my ankle
because I was on by a sedan. Stay in the pocket. There are two quarterbacks in this league that get hit a lot.
Now, Russell Wilson runs a lot, doesn't get hit.
Alex Smith moves a lot, doesn't get hit.
Cam and Aaron Rogers get hit a lot.
And Aaron's not built for it.
Going to be 35, 6-2-220.
Cam Newton's 6-6-250.
And even Cam this year, even Cam this year,
have you watched Carolina this year?
Anybody noticed this?
Cam occasionally drives the motorcycle.
but he bought a family sedan too.
I don't see Cam taking the hits this year.
I don't see it.
By the way, Andrew Luck, you used to drive a motorcycle in this league.
He's running around.
Anybody notice this year's Andrew Luck with Frank Reich?
He bought a car.
He got off the motorcycle.
So I think I agree with Greg Jennings.
I do not think when Aaron says I'm playing to 40, bro, you're not playing to 40.
You have Khalil Mack two times a year for the next four years.
nine times minimum, Cleo Mac.
You have Minnesota this weekend coming up.
By the way, when's the last time Minnesota, not this weekend the next?
When's the last time Minnesota didn't have a good pass rush?
Doesn't it always seem like Minnesota's always got good pass rushers?
So I think you just have to make changes in life.
It's not necessarily a criticism because I get every guy that I've ever known that drives a motorcycle.
I totally get it.
I'm kind of jealous of it.
I think it's really cool.
Women think it's cool.
I'm not banging on the motorcycle.
You know, go to your local Yamaha dealer.
You buy one.
I get it.
But there will be a point.
when you've got to buy a car.
There will be a time.
You'll have to make a decision to move to a car.
And I think it's time for Aaron to do that.
Blazing 5 is coming out.
There's a couple of the games that's not in my Blazing 5.
It is not in my Blazing 5.
It's just not a good Blazing 5 pick.
The number's not right.
I can't wait for it, though.
Atlanta hosting Dallas.
That is a great game.
And like last night, it's got kind of an elimination.
field to it. Last night had an elimination
feel to it on Fox. Didn't it not?
You're like losers out. Now, I still give Green Bay
a little shot because
I think the hardest part of their schedule is over.
I think they have Aaron Rogers. And I think
pass rush, secondary, they
can steal a winner two. They got some young players
that are really, really good. A lot has to happen.
But a lot it does. I'm not saying. But I'm going to give, if Seattle would have
lost, I would have said out. Green Bay
lost, I'm like, mostly
out, still got a shot.
Yeah, that tie with Minnesota keeps them alive.
Dallas and Atlanta has a real elimination feel to it.
And I'll have some thoughts on the Cowboys
plus the Blazing 5 plus.
Mitchell Schwartz, starting offensive linemen for the Kansas City Chiefs
to play the Rams this weekend.
All coming up, hour or two and a Friday.
It's the herd.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.
Ah, here we go to Friday.
This is The Heard.
Hour 2, live in Los Angeles.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening,
we are live on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1.
I love these Friday shows.
I love these Thursday night football games.
I remember about two years ago, everybody's complaining.
It's not fair to the players.
Zip it.
It's fair for everybody.
I win, you win, players win.
Now everybody gets a week off.
And everybody gets like 10 days off.
These players, if you're a Green Bay Packer, go to Vegas for three days.
You don't have to report back until Monday.
No, no, no.
That's bad advice.
If you're a Seahawk, go to Vegas for a bunch of days.
Let's go gamble during crystal.
But my point being is, yeah, sometimes work asks you to take a beating on short notice.
But if you get a bunch of time in the back end, it's like a second buy in the NFL season.
I'd take it every time.
If you told me I get two buys in the NFL season.
But I have to do, I have to play a short.
week take it in a second. I mean most people in America if you say you got to work really hard for
about a this one week's going to be brutal but it'll give you an extra week off. Right. Most people in
America aren't running full speed into the garage door. Be it as it may. For three hours straight.
This is just this game is I didn't see a bunch of guys getting carded off. I saw a bunch of guys love football.
Right. All right. The Blazing Five sponsored by Chili's starter entree Coke 10 bucks. Three things.
10 bucks, three for 10, two go makes the holiday easier.
My best picks of the year.
Here we go, Blazing Five.
Let's blaze it up.
Fire it up.
It's Collins, Blazing Five.
Titans at Coles.
Oh, this breaks my heart.
I love the Colton Andrew Locke.
I got to take Tennessee plus two here.
Their defense this season, points per game, yards allowed.
It's all top five, top six in the NFL.
Marcus Mariotta has been in a groove.
Mike Frable's done a nice job coaching with this team.
I get less roller coaster, more dependability.
Now, the Colts have won three in a row,
but they beat the Bills, Raiders, and Jags,
who are a combined 7 and 21 this year,
and I've seen the Colts over the last two game.
Their defense is eroding.
Take Tennessee and the points.
They win 27 to 23 bums me out.
Broncos at Chargers.
Listen, four of the six Bronco losses are within seven points.
It's a number.
I like the number here.
I get Denver plus seven.
The Chargers finally come home after like a month not being there,
and it's not much of a home field advantage anyway.
Denver since Week 7 has played real defense, top two or three in the league.
Vaughn Miller has owned the Chargers more than any opponent in his career.
13 sacks and 12 career games.
And listen, Denver is a big play offense here.
You'd think Case Keenemitz, they're a big play offense.
I get seven points.
I think Denver may not win.
I'll take the Chargers to win 3026,
but I'm taking the touchdown in Denver.
Raiders at Cardinals.
I'm not watching this game.
It's going to be garbage.
But I'm taking Oakland plus five and a half points.
The Cardinals are 2 and 0 against the 49ers.
They've lost to everywhere else.
They lose to everybody else.
They've beaten the Niners.
Well, you should be the Niners right now.
Jimmy Garoppolo's hurt.
Arizona's last or next to last in everything.
Yards, rushing yards, big plays.
points per game. The Raiders have far better personnel offensively, and their red zone defense is top 10 in the league.
Listen, the question is, have the Raiders quit on John Gruden. I just have never seen a team quit before Thanksgiving.
So I'm going to take the Raiders to win. I have to take the five and a half points. This is virtually an unwatchable football game.
But I'm going to take the Raiders to win, 27, 24. Even if they don't win, I'll take the points.
Vikings and Bears. Like it? I love it. My favorite bet of the week.
Minnesota plus three at Chicago.
Minnesota's got better players.
I mean, I know you love Khalil Mack and that defense.
Minnesota's got the better defense.
Minnesota's defense this year is first and third down percentage.
First in sacks tied.
Second and red zone.
Third and Minnesota's got the better defense.
It's just everybody loves Khalil Mack.
Okay, the Vikings have beaten the Bears three straight times.
And by the way, the thing about Chicago, they can move the ball around a lot,
but they settle for field goals more often than touchdowns.
I'm not a buyer of Mitch Trubisky.
I get the better team and the points.
Minnesota wins 3027.
Eps at Rams.
I live in L.A. I must love the Rams.
My second favorite bet of the week.
I'm taking Kansas City plus three and a half points.
I get this offense and over a field goal.
And by the way, right now I'm not sure Kansas City's defense isn't better than the Rams defense.
You can run on the Rams.
Kareem Hunt can run on the Rams.
You can push back at the Rams
and take the ball away from the Rams.
Kansas City is now got Justin Houston.
I got a little Eric Barry.
I got some D. Ford.
And I know the offense is great.
Listen, the Rams have allowed over the last three games.
34 points a game.
Now, maybe the Rams will solve some of their problems.
But I think there's a lot of Indomac and Sue,
Marcus Peters, sort of doing their own thing.
I got Kansas City with the upset win.
33 to 31.
Right now I think they're playing better.
Right now this minute, I think they're the better team,
and I get over a field goal.
Rams home field.
Nebulous.
Not a great home field advantage right now for the Rams.
Those are my blazing five picks sponsored by Chili's.
Get a starter, an entree and a Coke, 10 bucks, order from the app, pull up Chili's,
take it home, easy score.
Three for $10 deal.
So I love those picks.
I've got to tell you that Tennessee one breaks my heart.
It breaks my heart.
I still think the Colts can make the playoffs, but it breaks my heart.
I do want to talk about the Dallas Cowboys, though.
So they faced Atlanta.
That was not one of my picks.
So right now the Dallas Cowboys are four and five.
But a lot of people feel good about them.
Ooh, shut up Philadelphia game.
That that guy, extension.
Jerry Jones, very happy.
Four and five.
Indianapolis, a team I love.
Not this weekend.
Not this weekend.
I don't love Indianapolis.
But they're four and five, too, in the AFC.
I'm going to take Indianapolis to sneak into the playoffs, not Dallas.
And here's why.
If you go look at the Dallas Cowboys' next five games,
I'm a big believer in quarterbacks.
Their next five games, they face Matt Ryan, Alex Smith,
Drew Brees, Carson Wentz, and Andrew Luck.
they will have the second best quarterback in all five games.
Some at home, some on the road.
At Andrew Luck, at Matt Ryan.
Drew Breeze is the best.
He's not easy to beat anywhere.
Carson Wentz is the second most talented or luck,
home or away.
I just don't like it for Dallas.
So when I look at Dallas in their next five games,
they're four and five,
I don't like what I see.
When you go into games with the second best quarterback
and in some instances, easily the second best quarterback,
like there's a gap, four and five, eight making the playoffs.
Now let's look at Indianapolis.
Let's look at their next seven games.
Andrew Luck is arguably the best quarterback in all seven games.
Now, you can make the argument Deshawn Watson in a month is better than luck.
At this point, Andrew Luck's the better quarter.
You can ask Andrew Luck to throw 40 times.
He's good.
At this point, Deshawn, you can ask him to throw 20 to 24 times.
You don't want to put everything on him.
I like him.
He's emerging.
He's growing.
Andrew with the line of scrimmage right now is a better quarterback.
So both are four and five.
One in the AFC, the Colts.
Now, it should be noted.
Dallas has a much better defense than the Colts.
If you gave Andrew Luck Dallas's defense, I'd guarantee you there in the playoffs.
I think the defense for the Colts, at some point, that's the barrier for Andrew
luck.
But if everybody likes to Dallas Cowboys,
I always break it down to a really simple thing
when it comes to the NFL.
How good is your quarterback
and how good is the quarterback you face?
And that decides 90% of the teams in this league.
Dak Prescott, next five games,
is the second best quarterback in all of them.
Andrew Luckin his next seven is arguably the superior quarterback,
sometimes by a long shot in all seven games.
That's who I like.
Mitchell Schwartz, Chief's offensive linemen.
And this is interesting because in my picks of the week,
I just picked Kansas City to beat the Rams.
And I know a lot of people think Collinger, you're in Los Angeles,
you're a homer.
No, there have been things about the Rams defense,
which to me are troubling.
There's some freelancing going on,
and I think you can run the football on the Rams.
And if the chiefs do run the football this weekend,
Mitchell Schwartz via the Coward Global Satellite Network will be a big part of that.
All right.
First of all, I love your brother.
First time I've talked to you, I love your brother.
You guys had to have had a crazy household because Jeff is one of the funniest, smartest guys I know.
Who was the big brother?
Who was the tough brother?
Who was the funny brother?
Tell me about the relationship you and your brother growing up.
Well, if you know Jeff at all, you know, he was the talkative brother.
So I always kind of had to bide my time and pick my spots here and there and choose.
It's nice that you finally got the better looking brother on the show.
So I can definitely claim that.
But a lot of food consumed, a lot of talking.
I think my brother, you know, takes a little bit more after my mom in terms of that.
And I'm a little bit more like my dad, a little more quiet reserved.
But great household.
And then, you know, we would play wiffleball on the street.
And Jeff would pretty much kill me every time because he was three years older and three years.
years bigger and he just hit bombs and I'd be out there just barely getting the ball past the trees.
Andy Reid is one of the great play designers in the NFL. I think Andy, I've said this before,
take Bella check out. I can argue Andy Reid is the best coach in the last 15 years in this league.
Now, when people think of Andy Reid, they think of quarterbacks and receivers and backs that he
doesn't deal with the offensive linemen. Take my audience in, though, to Andy Reed's brain
that what do you get in a weekly basis with Andy Reed? Because I talk to players and coaches around the
league and they steal more Andy Reed plays than any plays in the league. Talk about Andy.
Yeah, it's amazing. I mean, when I got here, the first thing I think is the attention
to detail, you know, when you're going through an installation, like you said, I mean, it's the
receivers, as the quarterback, it's the offensive line. He's an offensive line guy himself.
You know, he understands our position really well. He does a good job, you know, scheme-wise,
putting us in good positions to succeed. You know, he understands the difficulties we have out
there, you know, blocking those elite rushers and we've been facing the Rams this week. I mean, they got
good group of really five guys across the board all that can beat you one-on-one.
And so he'll always have kind of tidbits for you, whether it's a technique thing or whether
it's a, hey, you know, I saw this.
Maybe you can, you know, take a look at that and see what you think.
But he's given each position group, you know, specific details on something he's seen or something
that's worked in the past.
And it's just incredible.
I mean, that's, like you said, I mean, he's a genius.
And so it's that everything kind of flows together.
Everything works together.
You know, the offense isn't just, oh, we're going to, you know, throw a bunch of routes out there
with some fast guys and, oh, the O line will figure it out.
You know, the O lines tied into the tight ends, the running backs, the receivers.
And obviously this year, Pat's the guy that making that all go pretty well.
So it's just a really cool thing when it all comes together.
And it's really running on all cylinders right now.
You know, Patrick Mahomes is interesting.
When you have a pocket quarterback, like an Eli Manning, you always know where he is.
But when you have an Aaron Rogers, when you have a Russell Wilson, when you have a Patrick Mahomes,
Mitchell. Sometimes you don't know where he is. What are the advantages to having a mobile quarterback
and are there disadvantages sometimes to having a mobile quarterback like Patrick?
The advantage is his ability to get out of tight situations. And so, you know, the offensive line,
we don't necessarily have to be perfect on every single play. You know, we strive to be,
but if something breaks down, he's got the ability to flush out of the pocket. He's shown
the left-handed throw right there. I mean, that's just something you can't teach, his ability
to extend the play, make a play happen, get us out of bad situations, find an open guy.
I mean, we got a ton of speed out there.
And so if you're able to buy two extra seconds, I mean, that's really hard to cover
Tyreek or Sammy or Kelsey for three seconds, let alone for five seconds.
So those are the advantages.
I mean, from an offensive line perspective, you've got to be smart with your hands.
You know, you're kind of always trying to hold a guy, grab a guy.
You know, if Pat starts flushing out of the pocket, if any quarterback does
and your guy starts to disengage, you have to be smart because typically you're right
the point of attack. And if you give the guy a little bit of tug, if, you know, he gets too far
from your body and the refs see you grabbing some jersey, you're liable to get a holding call. And so
that's really the only disadvantage. But from an offense line perspective, you understand,
hey, if a guy's pulling off, you know, Pat's probably scrambling. And then you just get your feet
alive and try to chase after him. Mitchell Schwartz, Chiefs Offensive Lyman. This is a show that
loves offensive linemen. Has anybody noticed that? I give, I give offensive linemen love. So a
A lot of these people just want quarterbacks on.
No.
They're the thinking man.
You got the fun guys.
Excuse me?
You got the fun guys.
Yeah.
But I had Lane Johnson on and we argued and yelled at each other.
And I don't always agree with you guys, but I love having you on.
Now, you face a Rams team, Aaron Donald, Indomac and Sue.
Could be the two strongest players in the league.
I don't know how strong you are.
But when you look at like Donald and Indomac and Sue, I'm not saying,
fear, but they can humiliate offensive linemen. Talk a little bit about that assignment over the
weekend for your entire group. Yeah, it's a tough matchup. And they got Michael Brockers in there, too,
who kind of gets unheralded with those two guys. But you talk about a big, strong guy on the
interior. I mean, he's a guy that doesn't get the credit he deserves, and he can really set it up.
So you put those three guys across the middle. You get one-on-one matchups. Kind of the crazy thing is
they all have a little bit different body types. You know, Brockers is a little taller, longer,
sues, you know, thicker, Donald, not the biggest guy, but he creates just insane leverage from
how fast he is, you know, I think we all know about the speed, but the power that he brings with it.
And so you've got to have a little bit of a game plan difference depending on which one of those guys you're
going against. And that's another hard thing is, you know, the way you attack it might be a little
bit different arsenal moves, but at the end of the day, crazy strong. And then, you know,
is they able to push the pocket, you know, quarterback's got to keep getting a little bit deeper,
a little bit deeper. And that allows the edge guys to really get to work as well.
you know, Wade Phillips is the defensive coordinator that gets them all in the right position.
And he does a good job of making sure that they get as many one-on-ones as possible.
And, you know, with those guys up front, it just creates a really difficult day for the offensive line.
And so you have to know you're going to be as on point as you can with technique.
But, man, it's hard to do that 40 times on past protection.
Okay, finally, seven years in the league, four with the Browns, three with the Chiefs.
you have a you have a you've started for 106 or something straight games you have this long streak and you know listen you play in the most physically combative position you have obviously played hurt in your career i mean there's no way you haven't had mangled hands or bad shoulders so i imagine this week this is going to be a battle this weekend have you ever played and drove to the stadium thought i'm in just don't want to play how have you endured
for 106 straight starts.
You feel a responsibility.
I mean, as an offensive lineman,
you're protecting Patrick Mahomes.
You're protecting Kareem Hunt.
So if you're not doing your job to the best of your ability,
and then you put those guys physically at risk,
I mean, it sounds kind of crazy,
but that's the nature of our job.
You know, if you're a skill guy in the perimeter,
oh, I drop a pass to let my team down,
but you didn't cause a guy to get, you know,
hit by Aaron Donald or hit by Indomac and Sue.
And so you just feel this crazy amount of responsibility
to be out there for your quarterback,
for your other linemen. You know, we work so harmoniously together that we're always tied together at the hip.
And what I do can even affect what the left tackle does. That's kind of the crazy thing is, you know, all of us are always working together.
And so there are times where tackles are helping tackles and things of that nature. So you just feel this responsibility to be out there, to be out there with your guys.
I mean, that's really what you do training camp for. It's what you practice all those long days for. Sundays are the day that you just really don't want to miss.
And then, obviously, luckily, this week we get to get it on a Monday in front of a national audience.
It's going to be great.
Mitchell Schwartz, brother of Jeff.
Great having you on the show, Mitchell.
Thank you so much for stopping by the herd.
I appreciate it.
Thank you, Colin.
You bet.
We put linemen on this show.
We are not about glamour.
Okay, we talk a lot about Brady Rogers,
Russell Wilson, and LeBron.
LeBond.
But we bring the big guys on this show.
I had Matt Barnes was a scrapper.
Coming up next,
can we spend three minutes talking
talking about Russell Wilson? I know it's, we can't last night because Aaron played. Can we spend
three minutes on Russell Wilson? I won't do too much. I'll get right back to Aaron,
but a couple of minutes on the greatness of Russell Wilson. I think he's, he won last night,
right? Did I get that wrong? Did he beat Aaron again? Okay. That's coming up next.
Sunday, it's a Fox NFL doubleheader, starting with Ezeko Elliott and the Cowboys,
taking on Matt Ryan and the Falcons. Then it's America's game of the week is Carson
Wenton the Eagles battle Drew Brees and the Saints.
It's all on Fox and the Fox Sports app.
Cowboys Falcons Elimination game, Eagles, Saints.
You know, listen, New Orleans is rolling.
I keep betting against them.
It's Philadelphia's season.
Don't be shocked if the Eagles don't give you their best performance of the year.
So good stuff on Fox last night was tremendous.
I'm going to do something now.
I know it's not appropriate,
but I'm going to talk about the other quarterback in the game last night.
There's two quarterbacks in the NFL that I like more than the rest of the fans
and the rest of the media.
It's been Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson.
I liked him from day one,
and I like him more than the...
Now, I'm not saying everybody doesn't get their good,
but I think Andrew Luck's,
since John Elway,
the greatest college quarterback to enter the NFL,
and I think Russell Wilson's a first ballot hall of famer,
and I've been saying this for five years.
But the difference is he's different.
John Elway looked like a quarterback.
Tom Brady looks like a quarterback.
Russell Wilson's 511.
and I'm being generous.
And many of his great plays are with his feet.
And he also suffers from something that Jared Gough does and Tom Brady does.
When your coach is a rock star, Bill Belichick, Sean McVeigh, Pete Carroll.
He entered the league, Pete Carroll was 60 Minutes was doing pieces on Pete Carroll and USC football.
And he was building the Legion of Doom.
Same with Jared Gough.
Jared Gough's numbers are all-time stuff.
But Sean McVeigh!
So when you have a Belichick, Brady's a system quarterback.
When you have a McVeigh, golf's a system quarterback.
When you have a Pete Carroll, he does it with defense.
You enter the league at a disadvantage from marketing.
But Russell Wilson, again, was the better quarterback in the fourth quarter.
Under duress, average offensive line, trailing, made multiple brilliant throws.
By the way, you do realize, in the history of the National Football League,
the history of the National Football League,
Russell Wilson has the highest fourth quarter passer rating
and it's not a fluke. Brady's on that list, Roger Steve Young.
If Aaron is so much greater than Russell Wilson,
the gap is so enormous, I don't think it is you do.
Then why have they played seven times and Russell has won four?
Why last night did Russell provide the key plays,
not Aaron late drives in the game.
Remember, Aaron had already won a Super Bowl when this rivalry started.
Aaron was an established star, had sat on the bench three years, had been a starter for a couple.
When this relationship between Russell and Aaron, this rivalry began, Aaron was a superstar.
Russell was a 5-11 quarterback who a lot of people thought was over-drafted.
He's too small.
This should not be four, three, Aaron.
What about Seattle's defense?
Last night, statistically, the Packers lead the NFL in Sacks.
The Seahawks don't.
The Packers statistically have the better pass defense.
The Seahawks don't.
Just saying, you keep telling me the gap is this.
And I'm telling you the gap, if there is one, is much smaller.
Russell Wilson should absolutely be mentioned in the same breath as Aaron Rogers.
Whether you want to believe it or agree with it, he should be.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So we've already heard a report on what Draymond Green said to Kevin Durant during their arguments,
the B word earlier this week.
Yeah.
Well, according to Chris Haynes, Draymond verbally went at Katie further.
adding heat to an already intense locker room.
The reports are saying that Jemond told Katie, quote,
we don't need you.
We won without you.
Leave.
That's personal.
You know what it is?
It's emotional.
Emotional discipline.
I mean, if I said, I don't need you.
That's personal.
Isn't it?
Something can be personal and also be true.
But I do need you.
Correct. You do.
But to me that that crosses a line.
You know, there's a fine line between confident and arrogant.
Sure.
There's a fine line between harsh and personal.
Remember when Coosma and Lonzo did those disc tracks?
Right.
And Lonzo took a shot at like Coosma's dad.
And you're like, oh, dude.
But it's pretty obvious that that was an understood, like the line was further for them than maybe for the rest of us.
Like what Jamon is saying is true.
They did win without him.
But they do now need him.
So part of that statement is true.
It's factual.
That did happen.
But then, you know, then you lost.
So now Katie's here and you've won two back to back.
So there's, there, it's obviously meant to be an insult.
And it's obviously, you know, a lack of emotional discipline.
And Jemont talks about it yesterday.
You know, he said he's an emotional guy.
And sometimes that works to his benefit.
And sometimes it doesn't.
But he is who he is.
That's part of the reason why Draymond.
is that type of player.
He's got to grow up and not.
He is the muscle and the vocal,
and he plays that role for that team,
and you have to have that.
Less talented people,
shouldn't tell significantly more talented people,
shouldn't throw as many insults.
I don't disagree with you.
Like, this should not have happened,
but there's obviously something else brewing.
By the way, Scotty Pippen could have said to Michael,
we can win without you.
They did win a bunch without him.
They won 55 games and got,
within one call Hugh Hollins
of getting to the finals.
Did they win a ring with that?
Well, again, I don't see, like,
I don't believe that you win the winning
or you're garbage.
I think you can...
No, but you're not the winner.
If you're not first or last...
If I've always been a six,
if I'm dating an eight,
I don't tell her I don't need her.
I'm married to an eight. I'm a six.
I never tell her I don't need her. I'm lucky to have her.
I don't believe in those numbers.
My bad. I'm married to a 10. That didn't come out right.
Yeah. Of course. Of course she's a 10.
Brown's GM John Dorsey spoke recently about what he's looking for in the team's next head coach,
and his answer was very interesting.
I would like to see a man of character.
I would like to see a man who can lead young men.
I'd like to see a man who's got high football acumen.
I just want the best possible head coach to move his thing for regardless of age.
I mean, it could be a woman, too.
I mean, don't look at me like, I'm serious.
Who knows?
We're going to look at everything, is what I'm trying to tell you all.
Well.
That'll play big on Twitter.
I mean, look, football is further away than some other sports at having a female head coach.
I think the NBA is obviously the closest.
Becky Hammond gets thrown out there a lot.
And I think sooner rather than later, she's going to get an opportunity as a head coach.
I don't know who it was that laughed so vocally.
I very much would like for John Dorsey to out that person or anyone else who's in that room for that matter.
Well, we don't even have right now a female.
college coach. So I mean, I think it would help. I mean, colleges
doesn't have the best reputation for hiring minorities of any sort.
Well, we don't have a female coordinator at any level of football.
Jen Welter was hired by the Cardinals. She was an interim, an intern coach for the Cardinals
a few years ago, a preseason intern. She's the first woman to hold any type of NFL coaching
position. But it's not impossible. And the argument's going to be like, well, you know,
women, they don't play college ball. You got to play ball to do it. Joe Giff,
didn't play college ball. No, I don't think that's it. I think the issue is it's impossible now
because we don't have a position coach at any level of football that's a female.
Right. Well, I mean, you have to make that happen before the next step happens. But the idea
that it's impossible because of the actual playing football experience. I don't care about that.
There's plenty of examples of all types of coaches, not just head coaches that I don't care.
At college level. Even a high level of college ball. So that doesn't mean anything. So that doesn't mean anything.
But, you know, someone's going to take the first step.
So finally, Matt Patricia made it clear during practice yesterday that he doesn't care if it's snowing or not.
We are enjoying pretty beautiful weather in California, as we usually do.
There is Matt Patricia.
There's always that guy in the shorts.
I just, I do this just for you.
He doesn't have his hat on backwards, though.
So maybe he's just showing the toughness.
Why are they practicing outside in the snow right now?
I think, well, who do they play next?
Who do the line?
Lions playing. Colin, their next four games are indoors.
Yeah. Well, I mean, what is that? If I was a, if I was a player for the Lions,
they have three straight home games.
Urious. That makes no sense. I can see if you're about to go on the road and there's,
there's bad weather where you're headed. This is kind of ridiculous. They have an indoor
practice facility. This is the type of stuff that the Rams do better that teams are paying
attention to. Yeah, I agree on that, you know. Makes no sense at all.
I am not. I am not a short. I mean, yeah, like, what is that? It doesn't even make
sense because you're not preparing for anything.
I thought they were going to play Buffalo next.
I'd be like, oh, I get that.
Yeah, I get that.
They play Buffalo in December, but they have four consecutive indoor games coming up.
And now I have plenty of snow in Michigan to practice in.
Joy with the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
By the way, we do this every week.
We picked the biggest games in college football.
Once again, it's a lousy college football weekend.
We have about seven lousy college football weekends.
The Notre Dame Syracuse game.
is the one of record. College football, you could fix this problem. Fewer out of conference games,
demand everybody plays teams in their conference. It's time for spoiler alert.
Warning, Colin is about to reveal the outcomes of the biggest college football games this week.
If you don't want to know exactly what's going to happen, turn away now.
Notre Dame Yankee Stadium takes on Syracuse. I've said before, I think Notre Dame getting to the play.
is more impressive than Alabama or Clemson winning the playoff.
Brian Kelly's done an amazing job.
It's a private school.
It's an academic power.
It's a religious campus.
They have cold weather.
It's isolated.
There's no junior college players, no transfers.
You know, when I say all those things, that does not say college football power.
But Notre Dame last year had the two best offensive linemen in the sport.
Both went top 10 in the draft.
Both have been fantastic pros.
They start every year behind the eight ball with roadblood.
blocks and hurdles, that LSU, that Clemson, that Georgia, you know, Alabama, Penn State,
Nebraska's, Washington, they don't have those hurdles. I really like Notre Dame. The three teams
I've seen this year that are different from everybody else, Alabama, Clemson are the two best,
third best is Notre Dame. I just, I'm always blown away that in 2018 of all the opportunities
to play anywhere, that Notre Dame can build a powerhouse. It's like I've always said, I don't
care where you end up. What did you come from? If you're a kid, a child from chaos, your family
couldn't afford high level education and you end up the CEO of a Fortune 500 company,
that's more impressive than a rich guy's kids ending up running a company. Notre Dame just
overcomes so many factors. It is a great team. Now I think Syracuse has a brilliant young
head coach, Dino Babers, and he'll make this super competitive. They're very, very clever.
But I think Notre Dame's defensive front decides the game late, wears down Syracuse.
Spoiler alert.
Turn away. Notre Dame wins 3528.
Former Packard, John Coon, fullback, tough guy, joining us coming up next.
What are his thoughts on the Packers road loss?
Are they out of the playoffs?
Blazing 5, sponsored by Chili's.
Take your three for $10 to go.
A starter, an entree, and a Coke.
Just 10 bucks.
He was the best fullback in the NFL for over a decade.
Three Pro Bulls, a Super Bowl champ, joining us via the Coward Global Satellite Network.
John Coon, Super Bowl champ, nine of his 12 years in Green Bay.
All right, I love fullback.
I've had offensive linemen and now a fullback on my show today.
It's a tough show.
It feels like a physical show.
I'm watching last night, John, I'm watching Aaron Rogers.
And I said he's been driving a motorcycle for years.
He's 35 soon.
He just got out of a brace.
it's time to get off the motorcycle and go by a nice safe car.
Do you think if I told Aaron, Aaron, next four years, less ad-libbing, less gunslinger,
get off the motorcycle, more pocket stuff.
Is he capable of that?
You know, I think he would love to agree with you.
And in principle, he probably would agree with you.
But I just don't know if he is capable of doing it.
I mean, if you look at Aaron, he's never really thrown interceptions.
he refuses to get rid of the ball, and he's always looking to make the big play.
That's what makes him so special.
That's why he is a perennial MVP candidate in this league, and that's what he's going to continue to do.
You know, John, the minute he decided to take that big contract, and I totally support him, he deserves it,
but his teams now are going to be younger.
He can't get veteran-free agents.
I saw his death stare a couple of times.
He gets very frustrated with young receivers.
They are not at his level.
but he made a decision, and Drew Brees did this about five years ago.
When you take the big money, your roster gets younger.
I do push back on this a little with Aaron.
I think he can be a little condescending at times to younger players.
Is that a fair criticism?
Yes, it's a fair criticism, but I'm okay with it
because nothing great in this league has ever been built
without conflict or controversy,
and I want my leader to be the one to be able to call the rest of the guys out.
He's not given death stares because guys are running the right route,
I mean, he's given death stairs because
breakdown in the chemistry or breakdown in communication.
Maybe those death stairs should be aimed at a different direction,
maybe at the sideline, maybe at something like that,
because maybe these guys aren't getting coached up in the right way.
Either way, there's a disconnect between him and his receivers right now,
and that's why they're getting them.
If they were running the right routes and he's giving them stairs,
then they need to come back to the huddle and let them know, that's wrong to deal.
Best fullback in the NFL for a decade.
John Coon, three Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl champ.
you blocked for Aaron, you picked up yards for Aaron,
you actually had very good hands.
Not that fullbacks don't,
but you were a very reliable teammate.
You click with him and he liked you.
Some have said that Aaron can be rough on teammates.
A few have called him out.
Why did your relationship with him work?
He always seemed to like you.
Well, because I was always one of the believers that
when you're with a great player,
in order for yourself to be great,
you've got to work with them.
You've got to understand their,
you see, and that's kind of the way Aaron Rogers is.
He's not the easiest guy to get along with.
But what he is is he's extremely special.
Playing nine years with Aaron Rogers definitely propelled my career to a different level
that I probably would not have been able to achieve otherware with the different quarterback.
I wouldn't have traded those nine years in.
Now, what I will say is it doesn't come without bumps and bruises.
You got to be ready to take some of the pain that comes along with that.
But, I mean, look at the receivers that when they left, did they develop, did they create,
did they create opportunities the way they did when they were with Aaron?
So they struggled getting along with Aaron while they were there.
But they probably should have bit their tongue a little bit more,
took in some of his criticism.
And maybe they would have made some more plays, made some more poor bowls themselves.
John, listen, I think Mike McCarthy is a good coach,
but no coach outside of Belichick.
You know, we put Belichick in one stratosphere.
And then every other coach is even the Mike Tomlins and the McCarthy's
who have won Super Bowls, Pete Carrolls, we criticize them.
There's a lot of stuff now saying,
that McCarthy and Aaron Rogers are struggling.
Aaron said some things on a radio station off-season.
He wasn't happy with Van Pelt, the quarterback coach, leaving.
It does appear to me that there is a frost that is developed with McCarthy and Aaron over time.
And I think sometimes it's unavoidable.
If I said to you, it's just time for a new voice with Aaron.
Nothing personal against Mike.
He can coach.
Is that a reasonable?
Do you see the same thing I think I see?
You know, that is a reasonable statement to be made.
And I can remember my first two years in the NFL, I went to the Pittsburgh Steelers.
And the first year I got there, I remember talking to some of the older veterans.
And they had just been to the AFC championship game with Coach Cowher and they had lost.
And they just, they felt like they needed a new voice, a new guidance that they've heard some of the same stories,
some of the same messages from Coach Cowher over and over.
Well, you know, as history goes, Coach Cowher ended up winning the Super Bowl there with us that year.
and he rode off into the sunset as a grand champion.
I mean, I don't see this as very much of a different situation here.
Some of the messages may be getting stale for some of the older guys like Aaron,
and maybe they are looking for a different voice of leadership.
I do still believe, though, if these guys can come together,
if they can work together, Mike and Aaron,
that they can still have the great successes that they've had in the past
and continue to be a great team.
I still give this team a chance at the playoffs.
I just, I got Aaron.
I think the toughest part of their schedule is,
over, it's not a big gap.
It's not a big stake.
Do you think last night was an elimination game or not?
You know, I called it an elimination game before they played.
And I just think the road's going to be extremely tough for the Packers here.
The best thing going for them is the Vikings play the Bears on Sunday night.
So one of those two teams have to lose.
And, you know, that's just going to bring them back down a little close to the Packers.
They're probably going to have to run the table now to get into.
which they have done. You see two years ago they started four and six. That's a half game worse than
where they're at right now. They ran the table and won the division. Can they do it yet?
But it's an outsider shot right now. John, you were great. I'm going to have more fullbacks on the show.
Do you just hang out with other fullbacks? Do fullbacks hang out with fullbacks? Is that how it works?
Fullbacks love fulbecks love lime. And we go out to eat together. That's what we do.
All right. John, great talking to you. Love to have you on again. Good stuff, John. Thank you.
Thanks, Colin.
By the way, he went to Shippensburg University in Shippinsburg, PA.
I've been to Pennsylvania.
You're from there.
I believe I went to a soccer camp.
It's Shippensburg.
I've driven to Penn State.
It's fascinating.
It's in the middle of nowhere.
I went to, I've played many basketball tournaments at Penn State.
Really?
Mm-hmm.
I've been to Pittsburgh.
Pittsburgh's a beautiful city.
Yes, right now it's a little chilly.
Yeah, Philadelphia hates me, but Philadelphia can be a lot of fun.
Well, you're welcome in Pittsburgh anytime.
I'm giving you a pass for Pittsburgh.
There's about three cities in America that like me, and those are the ones I hang out in.
I don't think you're very hard on Pittsburgh.
No, I like the Steelers.
I love the Steelers.
Did you pick them for the Super Bowl?
Yeah, I did.
You're right.
Damn parade there for me.
Exactly.
No question.
This Thursday night football, God, I love it.
Oh, my God, my dog loved it.
I loved that I had a cocktail last night, the whole fam bowl of soup.
if everybody complaining about Thursday night football
You love soup
Bread and soup
I love soup
Hard food as you get older
I just want it
I want it to be a slip and slide
Things just in and out
Just flying through
What was the soup?
Well it's always the same kind of stuff
It's all basic chicken noodles
No it's just very healthy
A little protein in there
Last night I go
Just a little soup
Just a very good life for me right now
I get football on Thursday
Football on Saturday
Football and Sunday
It's fantastic
Coming up next hour
Peter King stops by
Peter Kingstops by next hour. Jason McIntyre, Monday's headlines today.
You know, I do said that that whole motorcycle analogy is I get the motorcycle.
Aaron's been on the motorcycle for years, weaving in and out of traffic.
I just don't think he can last to 40.
I mean, he's going to be 35 in December.
I don't see Aaron Rogers playing to 40.
I'm not saying he doesn't want to, but you've got to face Khalil Mack another nine times in four years.
You've got to face that Minnesota defense.
They've already both broken a collarbone.
you got two major surgeries, wore a brace for about six weeks this year.
I just think there are times when you have to evolve.
At some point in my life, I was going out and partying,
and then it's like, yeah, a body doesn't respond to it.
Now I go to bed at 9, 45, 10 o'clock, just the way it is.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd, weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Hour 3 live, here we go.
This is The Herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening,

Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and right here, FS1.
Man, do I love football on Thursday?
I love it so much.
I mean, I love it on Sunday.
I love it on Monday.
Packer Seahawks was great.
At 15 minutes, Peter King stops by.
Best for Last, Jason McIntyre has Mondays
Headlines Today.
That's one of my favorite segments.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
So this is our last hour to talk this week.
And then we go our separate ways for the weekend.
You do the rock star stuff.
I go home and eat soup.
My wife's vegan, by the way.
Right.
And, you know, so I've had to deal with that.
So she's vegan.
And the other day, she did, vegan's fine.
I'm mostly okay.
I like fish.
So I'm a vegan who eats fish.
So I'm a Presbyterian.
And I think something like that.
Pescatarian.
Oh, all right.
Well, if you're vegan, eat fish and go to church, you're a Presbyterian.
So I like that.
I'll tell you what's terrible in the whole vegan world.
Vegan chili is terrible.
Well, that's like the opposite of the idea of chili.
It's like warm salsa, just like you need a bowl of salsa.
I told my wife, I refuse it.
The first person that can invent vegan chili is a zillionaire because it's not good right now.
The market is bare.
It's terrible.
All right, let's get to business.
Peter King in 15 minutes.
Well, the Packers face the Seahawks again.
rivalry. It was on the road again, and the Packers lost in Seattle again last night, so let me get
to it. Aaron Rogers fans have become Russell Westbrook defenders, that they're so spectacular,
they're so amazing. Their great is so great that we fall in love with the beautiful, and we gloss over
the, why don't they win more? And I get falling in love with beautiful. You walk into her room and
She's the most beautiful woman you've ever seen.
I get it.
I get falling in love with beautiful,
but there better be more or it won't last.
And I get walking into a room and he's the biggest honk and charming,
but there better be more or it won't last.
I get falling in love with his arm, the handsome, I get it.
And the losses are always somebody else's fault.
This morning, it's the defense.
Green Bay leads the NFL in Sacks.
They had five last night.
Their secondaries loaded with really telling.
young players. It ain't the defense.
Defense got tired at the end because of the offense
kept punting. So let's go to
now it's Mike McCarthy's fault. So let's go
to the two plays. Everybody's blaming Mike McCarthy.
Number one is he didn't
challenge the Lockett catch.
How could he not challenge that catch
by Lockett for the Seahaw? You got
challenged it. Well, two things. I thought it was
a catch. I wouldn't have challenged it either.
Troy Aikman agreed with me. He thought it was
a catch. Mike Pereira agreed to me. He thought
was a catch. And the other thing, it was a first
down play. It wasn't like it was a
fourth down. If you challenge it, overturn it,
it's your game. It was first down
play. It's a first down play.
So if you were racing anyway,
it's a second down. That's the first
thing. Second thing is, well, how come
McCarthy didn't go for it on a fourth down?
I wouldn't have gone for it either.
I wouldn't have gone for it either.
By the way, it was 420 left
in the game. You had a timeout in a two-minute warning
and you were at your own 33.
Even if Seattle gets a first down, you got the
two-minute warning, you get the ball back on the minute.
Russell, that's all Aaron Rogers needs.
Aaron Rogers needs a minute five, 58 seconds, a minute.
We've seen it 100 times.
He didn't need three minutes.
He didn't need four minutes.
He didn't need two minutes.
Green Bay said, listen, if we fail on this fourth down,
and by the way, the reason they got into a fourth down,
because Aaron Rogers skipped a ball to a wide open receiver.
And on that drive previously, he had a wide open receiver on first down,
but held the ball looking for the home run.
Even Troy Aikman talked about it.
Rogers pulls it back and now throws it away.
Well, I'm not sure exactly what's going on.
They got one-on-one outside, and Rogers had some time.
He had Aaron Jones right in front of him right over the ball.
I'm not being unfair here.
I'm not being unreasonable.
I'm not saying Aaron Rogers has to win Super Bowls.
I'm not.
I've never said that.
I'm not saying even Aaron Rogers has to get to Super Bowls.
I'm not saying that.
I'm not even saying Aaron Rogers has to get to the NFC championship like Brady
every year.
I'm not saying that.
I'm saying, dude, got to win more of these regular season games against your contemporaries
against the guys as good as you that I keep being told, you're better than.
By the way, Aaron Rogers this year has beaten Mitchell Tribesky, Josh Allen, C.J.
Bethard and Brock Osweiler.
Guys who are mostly backups.
His losses are to Alex Smith, Matt Stafford, Jared Goff, Brady, and Russell Wilson.
All I'm asking for.
Just a few more Ws against the elite quarterbacks.
I'm not being unreasonable here.
By the way, Aaron Rogers last two fourth quarters
against Brady and Russell Wilson,
42% completions, 82 yards, 62 passer rating, and no touchdowns.
Let me guess, that's the defense's fault.
That's McCarthy's fault.
McCarthy's brilliant first three quarters,
then he's terrible in the fourth.
Is that it?
But let me shift to this for a couple minutes.
Last night, Carmelow's been shipped out of town for Houston.
so Houston now doesn't have the Carmelo in the locker room.
Oh, that's interesting.
Carmelo's out of the locker room for 15 minutes.
And James Harden scored 27 and the Rockets for out the Warriors.
Isn't that interesting?
The Rockets, the second they get rid of Mello, they're right back on track.
And also the Warriors, after a couple of days without Steph Curry,
they appear to be falling apart again.
They're two and three this year without him.
And after the game, Kevin Durant with no Steph Curry around to lead the team,
Kevin Durant, predictably sensitive, starts getting prickly.
Kevin, with having another game to play and having some dialogue,
how do you characterize how things are with you to dream?
Don't ask me about that again.
So two takeaways in this game.
I'm going to talk about one.
First takeaway is, Mello leaves.
Another team gets better immediately.
I don't want to talk about that, though.
want to talk about the Kevin Durant thing.
Steph Curry's gone for a week, two weeks, and the team's falling apart.
Once again, we have a trend and a truth.
This is Steph Curry's team.
Kevin Durant is a great player, and I am not denying that for a second.
He is a talent, but he's not the man.
By the way, since Kevin Durant joined the Warriors
and his missed games due to injury,
they're 24 and 3 without him.
Kevin Durant is sensitive to a fault.
He is not a leader.
It's still Steph's team and that drives the hell out of him.
You would think, after all these years,
we'd figure it out and stop comparing him to LeBron.
But these warriors offer things,
to Kevin Durant.
We think Durant's going to leave the team and go wherever he wants and
he needs Golden State way more than he thinks.
Because Golden State provides two or three things to Kevin Durant
he's not built for.
Steph Curry runs the show.
Kevin Durant's not built for that.
He's a scorer.
Again, Kevin Durant needs Steph to be
the rock of the franchise, the leader.
He needs Draymond Green to be the muscle.
And frankly, he needs Steve Kerr.
to be the emotional lubricant, constantly talking KD off a ledge.
He is the most sensitive star ever.
And it's on display a few days after Steph Curry is hurt.
Also, remember when Vegas suddenly changed the lines on LeBron and where he was going,
Houston, standing Cleveland Sixers,
and all of a sudden the line shifted to heavy favorite Lakers.
Remember that?
Like Vegas is always a little ahead of the rest of us.
A gambling website called Odshark.
Just posted the odds for where Durant plays next year.
Lakers have become the solid favorite.
Just saying.
Peter King is right around the corner.

All right, Seahawks again beat Aaron Rogers and Green Bay in the Pacific Northwest
and via the Cower Global Satellite Network.
Peter, when I watch Aaron over the last couple of years, I see a couple of stressful things.
I think the relationship with he and McCarthy appears frosty.
When he signed that big deal, that means his roster is going to be now younger.
They're going to have to hit some home runs in the draft.
And I saw, you know, the death stare a couple of times last night where he gets frustrated.
straighted with his young receivers.
It just feels like Peter,
we're getting to a tipping point with Aaron.
There's going to be a change.
Every time I watch them and they lose one of these big road games
against the contemporary star quarterback,
it feels like it's coming to a head to me.
Does it feel like that to you?
Very much.
I mean, there's something about the Green Bay Packers now
that just feels like it has an expiration date on it.
And we didn't need last night to prove that or anything, but last night certainly was just another brick in the wall to reinforce that.
And Colin, the one point I would make is last night I was watching the game and I said, when's the last time the Packers were great?
I mean, think about this, really.
So I went back regular season since Christmas Day 2015.
They're 21, 22, and 1.
Wow.
Okay.
That's 44 games.
Aaron Rogers played 35 of those.
So it isn't like he missed two thirds of them, and Brett Hunley went 0 and 30.
I mean, you know, and so what I think is going on and what you read and what you hear and what you see basically is that, you know, it just doesn't feel right there.
It just doesn't feel right.
Nobody's really saying anything.
Nobody.
but it just doesn't feel right.
And to me, they had three huge road games in the last four weeks,
Rams, Patriots, Seahawks.
To be a contender, to win your division,
to think that you're going to be anything in January,
you've got to go one or two for three.
They went O for three.
And in every game, they were in it in the fourth quarter,
every time, and they blew it. Tie Montgomery, stupid play, taking the ball out of the end zone,
with 205 left in the fourth quarter, one time out left, instead of just kneeling, giving the ball to Rogers,
letting them drive for a field goal in the win against the Rams. Then, you know, Aaron Jones fumbles on
the first play of the fourth quarter of a tie game in New England. And then, obviously, last night,
Mike McCarthy chooses to punt on fourth and two from his 33, with one time out left and 4.20 to go.
And to me, I would much rather put the ball in the hands of my quarterback, even though he made a dumb throw on third down in that series,
than I would to take a defense that has been a little ragged, is beat up, and is really wearing down as this game goes on,
because all Seattle needs to do is to get two first downs.
And so I just think it just doesn't feel right there right now, Colin.
I'm going to throw a theory at you.
Aaron Rogers and Brett Farv, we think, are dissimilar.
One's a good old Southern boy.
One's that kind of California aloof cool guy.
I'm going to throw some similarities at you,
and then I'm going to punctuate it with a stat that's remarkable.
They're very similar.
6-2-25, gunslingers, ad-libbers,
not always the most coachable, kind of stubborn,
a little bit rigid about what they like to do.
Home run hitters.
They're not going to do death by a thousand cuts.
That's not who they are.
That works at home.
But here's what's remarkable.
Fav and Rogers now have under 50% road records,
which makes no darn sense when you consider their talent.
And I'm going to throw a theory at you that Montana,
Alex Smith, Tom Brady,
coachable death by a thousand cut guys,
works better on the road.
That Aaron and Fav have become,
very similar. A Super Bowl early, can't follow it up, kind of a gun slinger to a fault,
hold the ball a little long, looking for home runs, and they're both playing hurt now
in the second back nine of their career. That I think Aaron's a little bit culpable for some
of this. He's 35 in December. Like Favre, he's playing hurt a lot. And I think sometimes Aaron on the
road is tough to coach, can be a little stubborn, holds the ball too long. I do think it's not
all McCarthy. Is that fair of me?
I think it's very fair. It's not one person's fault what has happened here.
But the one other thing I would say about that, Colin, I sort of get the gunslinger comparison,
but here's where I would disagree.
Aaron Rogers doesn't throw nearly the, and I don't have any numbers in front of me,
but he doesn't throw the number of interceptions that Fav does.
I mean, Farrve had a six interception playoff game in St. Louis once, remember that one?
Yes.
And I don't think Aaron Rogers are going to throw six interceptions in a practice ever or anything.
But I think the one thing about both of them is that I would disagree with you and say that they're hard to coach because Mike Holmgren was frustrated with Farrv, but Farrv wanted Holmgren to make them better.
And I believe that Aaron Rogers wants a coach to make him better.
But I'm like you.
I'm just trying to read the tea leaves on this.
Because Rogers is cryptic about it.
McCarthy says everything's fine.
It's all well.
But it's just something about the entire situation.
And I'm not sure it's McCarthy versus Rogers at all.
I just think the entire situation just doesn't feel right.
Whereas Tom Brady has Josh McDaniels.
Whereas Drew Brees has Sean Payton.
You know, I just don't know that Aaron Rogers feels he has that guy with the Green Bay Packers.
Let's shift to Lavian Bell.
I'm bummed out because he left a lot of money on the table and running backs don't last forever.
And pro athletes should take what they can get when they can get it.
I can do radio for 30 years.
You can't be a pro athlete for generally even 10 to 12.
And now Lavian's out there.
And I'm watching all these kind of teams with a series of average backs, win games.
you know, Gurley's the exception, but, you know,
Sequin Barclay's great and Zeke's great.
It doesn't make their team great.
How does it end for Lavian Bell?
What is your guess on what happens and how,
because he's a remarkable, remarkable player?
You know, Colin, I think he's a remarkable player too,
but I also think there's a couple of things at play here.
Number one is that, you know,
James Connor makes 121st of what Lavian Bell makes.
And his numbers this year, every bit the numbers that Labion Bell ever had in Pittsburgh
are very similar to his best year, you know, at this point, 10 or 11 games.
And the one thing about Labian Bell and about the running back position is that in 2017,
the 67th pick in the draft, Alvin Camara, was the NFL offensive rookie of the year.
Yeah.
The 86th pick of the draft.
Kareem Hunt was the NFL rushing champion.
So all I'm saying is that this team, right now, the Pittsburgh Steelers, made a business decision.
We're not offering him a boatload, a gigantic contract.
We hope he takes what we offer him, but we realize he probably won't.
He didn't take it.
On the other side of the coin, I simply don't believe that five, six,
seven years from now. I just don't believe that Levyon Bell will ever make up the money he lost
this year. This is $14.5 million. If he plays five more years, Colin, you know what that means?
It means that he's going to have to make, say, because he's always wanted this number, whatever it is,
$17, $18 million average. He's going to have to make $3 million more per year, basically over
the next five years than what he already thought he was going to make.
So he's not going to do that.
And so I kind of look at it and just say whether he says it, whether his camp feels it or whatever.
And Labion Bell is a good guy.
But to me, I just think he's going to live to regret missing this year.
Yeah, it is a bummer.
Finally, Peter, listen, we always overreact, and myself included, September New England loses.
But this year it feels different because I'm not.
I don't think New England can go to Kansas City and win and go to Pittsburgh and win.
And I'm not sure they can go to the Chargers and win.
I watched that game.
You can't depend on Gronk.
I think Gronk's in his last year.
The Tennessee loss felt a little different.
Did it not a November dominating loss?
Did it feel different to you?
A little bit.
But the reason that I wouldn't say that it felt anything like finality is that, look,
Look at this team, Colin.
Rob Grunkowski a year ago was the keystone to everything they did.
Now, they really don't know what he's going to be when he does play.
And I agree with you.
I think this is his last year.
He's just too beat up.
He's taken too many blows.
He came into the league a little bit fragile with the neck and back anyway.
So I think this is probably it for him.
But if you look at the Patriots right now, who does Tom Brady have to rely on?
James White.
Yeah, that's it.
I mean, who else?
Yeah, I mean.
Julian Edelman at times, you know, but Julian Edelman misses the first four games and, and whatever, he's getting older, too.
And now, in the middle of the season, they're trying to make Josh Gordon the home run hitter that they have missed for so long in this offense.
And they're trying to do it on the fly.
If anybody can do it, Josh McDaniels and Brady can do it.
but I would just look at this and say the reason this feels different is that the offense constantly
seems to be a work in progress.
NBCSports.com, Peter King, by the way, on his podcast, he's got Philip Rivers, one of my favorite
people in the league.
I do think a big year for him could get him into the Hall of Fame where Peter's a voter.
So go to Peter King's podcast as well on iTunes, listen to it.
NBCSports.com.
Ken, Peter. Thank you so much.
Thanks, Colin.
Good stuff. We've had a good show today.
Man, we've got smart people everywhere.
Greg Jennings stopped by.
I got Mitchell Schwartz, Kansas City Chiefs, John Coon, former Packer.
I got Peter King.
I got Jason McIntyre Monday's headlines today.
About 20 minutes from now, Joy with News.
No, no, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So CenturyLink Field has been a frustrating bill.
building for the Packers.
Yes.
Last night's loss now joins a growing list of painful memories there for Packers, players
and fans, the Fail Mary game, 2012, 2014 NFC championship game, and then now a blown fourth
quarter league lead.
So naturally, Aaron Rogers was not in the best mood last night.
Yeah.
Aaron, are any hope left for this season?
Come on, Ross.
What kind of question is it?
I don't know.
I mean, you can't win on the road.
What are you going to be able to do?
I don't even know how to answer that.
Rob, I mean, come on, what am I supposed to say?
Of course, there's hope.
Of course, we believe in each other.
You know, we're just going to take one galvanizing moment.
So whether that's a speech or practice or something happens in the game, something's got to get this thing going.
Yeah, I'm going to defend Aaron Rogers on that.
No, it's okay to be emotional.
And he was authentic and he was honest.
And he was in the moment, he was totally honest.
He was frustrated.
He didn't like the question.
And I have no.
I think I have.
I have absolutely no problem in my entire career.
I'm going to ask questions.
If you don't like them, you don't have to answer them.
And if you want to snap at me, you can do that.
Just give me your authentic real you.
Don't be a fake.
And Aaron was not fake.
He was brutally honest.
And it's painful.
And I totally defend him on that.
Well, I don't think the question was out of line.
But it was one of those questions where it's like...
Kind of sounded like a fan.
It's just season over...
How do you feel?
It's one of those how do you feel questions.
Like, you just lost your seasons basically over.
How do you feel?
Like, there's only one answer to how he feels.
They are under 500, and playoff hopes are slipping.
But they have the Vikings next week, and that's kind of really feels like the last game that we'll be telling.
I'm going to have to put my cheesehead away with you.
I feel like they wear those all year round anyway.
All right.
It's time now for the real deal presented by Hardee's Ann Carls Jr.
And Patrick Mahomes' love of ketchup is the real deal.
In fact, it is prompted Heinz ketchup to present him with some additional.
incentive for the rest of the 2018 seasons.
So after they learned Mahomes put ketchup on his steak,
and lots of other things,
they offered him a lifetime supply if he finishes the season
with 57 touchdown passes.
Of ketchup?
Lifetime supply of ketchup.
Or steaks.
ketchup, okay.
Ketchup.
Yes, Heinz is ketchup on stakes.
And Mahomes was asked about it yesterday.
I'm a big ketchup fan.
I've always been a little bit more when I was younger.
But, I mean, it is crazy how social media blows things.
up these days. Would you like ketchup for life? I mean, yeah, I mean, I'm not opposed to it.
So if it happens and I get ketchup for life, I'll be sure to share it with some of the
offense alignment. Do you put it on anything unusual? I heard steak, but is there anything
really weird than that? I don't think it's that weird, but I put it on my macaroni and cheese,
but people seem to think that's a weird thing. Some people think that's disgusting, but I mean,
it's good to me.
Not really. I do, I have hunts. I do hines. I do hines. I do. I do.
do. I do it all. My favorite probably is the Waterburger ketchup. That's what Texas people would know that.
Look at that. The only ketchup is Heinz ketchup. Yeah. I'm from Pittsburgh. It's Heinz ketchup.
Yeah, that's right. The Heinz family's from Pittsburgh. I don't know that Steelers fans are going to be too appreciative of Heinz ketchup getting behind Patrick Mahomes.
You know, it's Heinz Field. They did deliver that out to the Steelers this year. But Heinz is in an international company.
Isn't a lifetime supply of ketchup worth like 300 bucks?
Is that?
Lifetime supply.
You should be surprised how much ketchup you go through,
especially if you're a consistent user.
I take those packets.
Restaurants give it to me for free.
I just take them home.
They're so frustrating, though.
I got a drawer.
Typically has it down.
They have the rip-off ones.
Those are the best ones.
You can just squeeze it on the fry.
That's perfect.
You have to average four touchdowns,
a little over four touchdowns of game to make us happen.
So it is possible.
And while I don't condone ketchup on steaks,
my grandfather used to do this all the time.
He actually used to carry.
a little thing of ketchup with him
to the restaurant in case they didn't have
in case this particular restaurant didn't have ketchup
which they obviously always did
and he would put it in his soup
and I made the mistake of asking him once
Pap why are you putting ketchup in your soup
and that was a mistake by me
I got a full
tear down of how
when they were younger they didn't have spices
and this was you know
underrated thing on steaks
horseradish
the best
I don't know about the
best, but I can see that.
Yeah.
I like a little extra flavor.
Yeah.
Finally, anyone who watched the Warriors
lost to the rockets last night
could tell they weren't themselves.
107-86, they couldn't make a shot.
And it was their first game
that Jemond Green and Kevin Durant played together
since that little altercation.
After the game, Steve Kerr explained
that they are still struggling emotionally.
We're banged up a little bit physically
and right now we're banged up spiritually.
I mean, there's no getting around that.
So we've got to fill up our cup
and get our spirit back, get our energy back.
And we're going to, it's a long, long season.
And it's a tough stretch in dealing with it.
But I know our guys.
It's funny the minute Steph leaves,
their spiritual kumbaya teeters into the abyss.
Anybody notice that?
Who's really the rock solid center of this franchise?
I mean, that shouldn't be hard to see.
Oh, no, it's obvious.
Yeah.
Everyone, I mean, Kevin Durant is, you know,
considered by some to be the best player in the NBA
between him and LeBron.
But there's a butt.
But Steph is, it's Steph's team.
It's always been Steph's team.
Steph kind of let Katie take the reins publicly.
But it's, when you think of the Warriors,
you think of Katie or you think of Steph.
You think of Steph.
And that's not, that's nothing, that's not a knock on Katie,
but they had this going before Katie got there.
There's insane among pro athletes, the smart ones.
Most people just play the game.
the great ones like LeBron, Kobe, MJ
play and think the game.
And it's the same thing with leadership.
Most guys are players.
Jeter, LeBron are players slash leaders.
But you can't teach leadership, though.
It's something you develop with an...
Just like you can't make someone change.
People have to want to change themselves.
They're not going to change for any particular reason
other than they want to change for themselves.
But there's something going on there.
No warrior starter hit a three-pointer on the night.
That's a first for Golden State since...
March of 2013.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lye News.
Coming up next, one of my favorite segments of the week.
I absolutely love it.
Jason McIntyre, who founded and created the biglead.com.
Mondays, headlines today.
And that is coming up.
Tomorrow, the fight for the college football playoffs is on,
starting with Jay Patterson and number four Michigan,
as they try to keep things rolling against.
Indiana on FS1. Then in primetime, Kyler Murray in the sixth ranked Oklahoma, look to make a statement
against Kansas on Fox or catch it all on the Fox Sports app. By the way, Michigan wins narrowly.
Oklahoma wins big. By the way, the Blazing Five sponsored by Chili's, three for 10. We had our
Blazing five picks an hour and a half ago, get a starter, an entree and a Coke, 10 bucks, just order
from the app, pull up Chili's, take it home. Easy score, three for $10 to go, the perfect play
for the busy holiday and your hungry family. All right. Our best first,
last is we do this every week with Jason McIntyre, the founder of the big lead, and we call it
Monday's headlines today. All right, we got five of these. Let's start with number one.
Big news out of Green Bay this weekend. Yes, yes. I believe that the Packers are going to assess
the situation after that embarrassing loss last night. I mean, Mike McCarthy was abysmal,
and I believe Monday's headline will be, pack up your things. Just get the heck out of
Listen, I know you've been bashing Rogers here for a good two hours, right, Colin?
I don't know.
I just don't see how you can come away from that with any confidence in Mike McCarthy.
Let me just bring up a couple quick points.
So Aaron Jones, they're great running back.
You have five carries in the second half.
You know, he leads the NFL in yards per carry?
Where was he on that third and two?
And I was at a bar last night watching with about eight guys.
And when it was fourth down, my first inclination is where you've got to go for it, right?
You've got a great running back in Jones.
And you've got a great quarterback in Rogers.
McCarthy punts never gets the ball back.
That's kind of the story with his career, right?
He's not aggressive like a Sean Payton in New Orleans who goes for every fourth down.
He's one of the most aggressive coaches in the league, McVeigh as well.
I don't see how you can come out of this bashing Rogers and not McCarthy.
Well, again, Aaron's 2 and 10 in his last 12 games against contemporary top quarterbacks.
I'm not asking for Super Bowls, but on that third and two, that was a bad
throw. Okay, but wait. And he had on first down to that same drive, he had a wide open Aaron Jones, and he went for the home run ball. He's constantly getting whacked. Russell Wilson runs and doesn't get hit. He's playing hero ball. I will agree with that part. You know, he held on the ball a little too long. But this 10 and two and ten against contemporary quarterbacks, Colin, this isn't baseball. This isn't a pitcher versus a hitter. This is a quarterback with a coach and a defense and special teams. We saw that in baseball. I know we don't talk baseball a lot. The NL. Saw Young Award.
winner had a 10 and 9 record this year.
And there was some outrage. Oh, he was only 10 and 9.
Listen, in football, it's a team sport.
Terry Bradshaw had a great legendary coach.
Joe Montana, legendary coach.
Tom Brady, legendary coach.
Who does Aaron Rogers have?
By the way, you know, it's funny.
When the Patriots played the Packers, it was Brady and Rogers.
But when Aaron loses, it's not a quarterback battle.
It's about the coach.
Funny how it works.
All right, Monday's headlines today.
Cowboys at the Falcons, by the way, on Fox.
You know, this is a great game, and it feels like an elimination game.
It does.
It does.
Losers probably done.
And this is one where the public is overwhelmingly on, guess who, Dallas on the road.
They are.
Now, I don't know.
Be careful with those, Colin.
Okay?
Monday's headline will be DAC to square one.
I like Atlanta here.
Now, I know that's not the play, the Vegas Sharps.
They love Dallas here.
But, I mean, again, this is a situation.
where Atlanta is going home off a bad loss.
We know that.
Yes.
They're awesome at home.
Have you looked at the Matt Ryan splits, his home and road splits?
I have not.
I mean, he's like 14 TDs, one interception at home.
He's unbelievable.
His quarterback ratings down like 30 points on the road.
His completion percentage is down on the road.
He goes home.
He's got a great arsenal to get the ball to.
I like Atlanta to win a high-scoring game here.
And it's going to be a situation where after that Tennessee loss,
well, Jason Garrett's done.
Let's get him out of it.
I think we're going to look at Dak and the focus is going to be back on him.
Yeah, I don't think you're wrong on that.
First of all, Atlanta gives up points and scores him.
Dak can win games. Can he win a shootout?
We'll find out this weekend.
All right.
Monday's headlines today, Eagles at the Saints, also America's Game of the Week on Fox.
Yeah, you know, I was in outside Philadelphia for about the last seven years before I moved to L.A.
And Philips fans loved me.
They loved me back there.
They hate me now because I've been bashing Carson Wentz.
He's a fumble machine.
That's a fact.
That's a fact.
So I believe after they go to New Orleans,
the headline Monday will be
Philly Special?
Not so much.
This is a team in major trouble.
They lost Jay Ajai to injury,
and everybody was like,
ah, not a huge deal.
It's been a big loss.
The number you need to look at last year,
they scored 25 or more points 12 times.
They've topped 25 points once this season.
It's funny when I watch them.
They're still talented,
but we were talking, Joey and I were talking about this the other day,
and that Jason Kelsey came up.
There's no it there.
They're just a bunch of good players.
There is no it with, what do they do great anymore?
They don't do anything.
The defensive line has not shown up the last couple of weeks.
You're getting beaten the trenches.
Let me just say this about the Saints.
That passing attack is going to go against a beat-up secondary.
Down their top two corners.
Listen, Drew Breeze, I know you like to gamble.
If you could put some money on him to win the MVP,
I wouldn't be shocked if he snuck in and won it.
He's been tremendous, and this eagle's secondary is a disaster.
It's just the offense doesn't look cohesive,
and I have some questions about Carson once at this point.
Monday's headlines today.
This is an interesting topic.
Ravens host the Bengals?
Well, you know, the Bengals got boat race last week at home.
Couldn't stop a nosebleed against the Saints.
It was ugly.
And, you know, the Joe Flacco news, he was on crutches last week,
probably not going to play, hasn't practiced.
Yet John Harbaugh, who's on the hot seat.
He is.
It's suddenly playing games.
We may start RG3, but I think Monday's headline will be Lamar.
Best Jackson since Michael.
I know you love Michael Jackson.
I do.
Listen, a quick note on Lamar Jackson.
Why haven't we seen more of him?
It's a fair question.
Baker Mayfield, we bash him a lot.
He's put up some good numbers.
Joy, I know you'll love to hear that.
Sam Darnold, he's had his moments.
He's struggling a bit.
but Lamar Jackson should be playing.
Like, let's see him out there.
He was a first round pick.
Yeah.
I think this is the week.
Lamar was ready, though.
No, no, no.
I don't think Josh Allen at Buffalo or Lamar.
I don't think they are ready.
But Josh Allen was in a position where he almost needed to.
He had to.
Flacco is a franchise quarterback.
Let me just say this to you.
Is this a good point?
Are we sure that Lamar doesn't need to play?
I got to know if I'm going to resign Flacco.
I would not re-sign Flacco at this point.
I don't know that Harbaugh is going to be around to see it.
No, so if you need a lot.
guy to save your job, I would throw a total
wrinkle. There's no tape on Lamar Jackson
here, NFL tape. There's nothing
for the Bengals defense to get ready for, and they're
terrible to begin with. I would go
Lamar Jackson here. I think he's due for a big game.
You know, if you're a fantasy football player,
I would consider taking a chance on Lamar Jackson.
I want to watch him. Why not? I'm in the
interesting business. Lamar Jackson
starting for them, I'm watching the game. And no
Baker Mayfield this week on a buy. No
Sam Darnold. Let's go for it. Josh Rosen
versus the Raiders. Like, I would see Lamar Jackson.
I'm interested in him. Okay. And finally,
Monday's headlines today.
Well, we always have to work in one NBA
because you and I text about the NBA
almost every day. Warriors Dynasty
appears to be crumbling.
Listen, when I came on here a couple weeks ago
and said, Durant, if he leaves,
the Lakers are the spot. You know the
sentiment is starting to trend that way
now. I believe after the Lakers
go to Orlando and Miami and win this
weekend, they will be 10 or
11 and 6 and the Monday headline
will be Warriors envy
Lakers cohesiveness.
I love to hear this.
Let's go.
Well, seriously, the Lakers are looking good.
I know the schedule is softened up, but they beat Portland twice.
You're Blazers.
You're a Portland guy.
And they were clearly, when I was there, it's clearly a deeper, better roster than Portland.
And Portland's a very good upper Western conference club.
They tried to put Jake Lehman on the prod.
I know you had a front row seat for that.
But on the Warriors, I mean, did you hear Steve Kerr say that, you know, they've got some major internal issues?
Yes.
You played the audio earlier.
like that's not good a month into the season.
And this cloud of Kevin Durant is going to hover.
I think the one guy that can stop it is Steph Curry.
I think at some point he's going to have to be like, KD, can you give us a read here?
And Durant's not going to.
He's not going to, why would he do that?
So I think at some point people are going to look and be like, boy, LeBron's really got these young guys in order.
Lanzo balls about, I know you love Lanzo.
He's about to, you know, play a lot now with Rondo out.
When you're at the Lakers games, two things jump out.
to you. Javelle McGee is way
more important than you think. Oh, yeah.
You can see the communication. Secondly,
Lonzo can play.
Lonzo has worked his butt off
for three point shots.
Lonzo's, I swear to go on that roster,
he's top three or four of guys
of who I want shooting a three. And listen, I talk
about this on my podcast, this sports gambling
podcast. When you watch games
closely, you want to see the
players go over and pick up their teammate when they go
down. You see that with the Lakers.
I don't know if you've noticed it. Kuzma hits the deck.
Three guys went over to pick him up.
And I watched The Warriors last night.
I didn't see a lot of that against the rockets.
And it's a little troubling because they're one of the best shows in sports.
But that stuff you can't quantify.
I like numbers as well.
And you can't put a number on that.
And it just feels like there is some issues in Golden State.
Colin, who's the second best team in the West?
Thank you.
Thank you.
Great stuff, guys.
