Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, Rhett, my mama want you to weigh better.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.

We're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Here we go on a Friday absolutely jam. Show of the week, show of the year.
This is the herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, we're on IHeart Radio,
Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. It is great to have you here. I'll take my
two picks, top of next hour.
One of them, I think it's the best bet of the playoffs.
I know I said that about Baltimore last weekend, but I really feel that.
Everybody from Rich Ormberger, Peter King,
Logan Ryan of the Titans is going to be on the show today.
Young receiver for the New York, Darius Slayton for the New York Giants,
a great, great young receiver for the Giants emerged this year.
And Joy Taylor, joining us as well.
Joy, how are you?
I'm great.
Can't wait for the weekend.
Very excited.
A very big weekend coming up, yes.
So I believe that I'm comfortable with certain risks.
Okay, I'm comfortable with certain risks.
And I think when you have a lead in your industry, Tiger Woods, he changed clubs.
He changed clubs because he was so dominant.
I used to work at a company called ESPN.
They did this thing called ESPN, the phone.
And they got a lot of heat for losing $50 million.
But ESPN, there was no FS1.
They didn't have a rival in the cable industry.
NBC wasn't there yet.
CBS didn't have it.
Fox didn't have it.
They were making $8 billion a year.
And ESPN owed their shareholders the opportunity to get into the phone business.
Because if it won and it hit, it would, too, become an $8 billion year industry.
It didn't.
It lost $50 million.
Who gives a rip?
When you're a company making $8 billion a year, that's a rounding error.
But they owed it.
Vince McMahon, the XFL, research shows.
Spring football can work in America.
NFL teams don't carry a third quarterback.
You'll have quarterbacks for it.
Now, you have cable companies in sports fighting for content.
Spring football.
He runs a billion dollar a year industry in wrestling.
He owes it to himself to try spring football again here with Fox.
So what if it whiffs?
He loses $200 million.
His company makes $9 billion a year globally.
Who gives a rip?
This is why McDonald's tried McLobster.
and McDonald's tried McPisa.
They have such a lead on Wendy's and Burger King.
This, and I also think this works with bands.
You two.
You know, Hall of Famers sat, rock and roll Hall of Fame, legends.
They're all worth $400 million net worth.
So they went in with Apple, and they totally rolled the dice on this thing,
where they didn't tell anybody, and all of a sudden you woke up one day,
and on your iTunes, you had a U2 song that you could never delete.
It bombed.
Bono apologized.
But they're still getting into the Hall of Fame.
Eddie Murphy, Pluto Nash, had so many credits.
He rolled the dice in an action comedy said in 2087, it was a huge swing, and it bombed.
Eddie Murphy owed Eddie Murphy.
You two owed you two those risks.
When you're a legend, swing, baby, swing.
Aaron Rogers has become safe.
Led the NFL in throwaways.
He doesn't throw any interceptions.
His QBR in the last four years, he's not a top 10 quarterback.
We know he's talented, but Aaron has to take big swings this weekend.
Last week, Minnesota played scared.
Kurt Cousins checked down.
No big shots down the field.
Two-run-centric.
You don't beat Mike Tyson until you can get Mike Tyson off you.
And you get him off you by doing what Lennox Lewis and Evander Holy,
Field did, swinging big early.
Aaron Rogers has become too safe.
Whatever it is, four or five years ago, he became paralyzed by not throwing
picks and throwing it away.
You got to throw Aaron to more than Devante Adams.
You're going to have to throw somebody beyond that because San Francisco,
their quarterback, Jimmy Garoppolo, is 3 in O this year when he's had two or more
interceptions. Garoppolo has a better roster and will take big swings. I've said this about Jimmy G.
The gap between Jimmy G. and Aaron Rogers is not nearly as big as you think, and I'm not sure there
is one. Because Jimmy G understands when you have a defense as good as I have and you have a coach
like Kyle Shanahan, you've got to swing, baby. You've got to take some risks. You owe it to yourself.
Aaron Rogers has become safe. Ooh, he doesn't throw picks. Who gives a rip? In the only
year Aaron Rogers had double-digit interceptions, he won the Super Bowl.
He used to have a little gunslinger in him.
He no longer does.
Patrick Mahomes does.
Lamar Jackson's got a little gunslinger.
Carson Wentz does.
Aaron doesn't, and you're not beating San Francisco unless you roll the dice.
By the way, Aaron, you throw three picks this weekend and you lose a wild one.
You're still going to the Hall of Fame first ballot.
You're not losing your state farm commercials.
You were six in O in division.
You still have the best quarterback in your division.
Chicago can't figure out quarterback.
You know, Detroit's quarterback's banged up, and it's Kirk Cousin, so you beat twice this year.
But I think once you have, once you're you two or Apple or Eddie Murphy, a big band, a big star, a big company, McDonald's, and you're already in.
You got your net worth, you got your Super Bowl, you got your Hall of Fame, you got your commercials, you own your division.
Swing, baby.
Take some big cuts.
and Aaron's become incredibly safe.
No chance to win if he does it this weekend.
All right, let me talk about Andy Reid,
who you know I have great affection for.
I think he's amazing.
And I have defended Andy Reid for a long time.
Patrick Mahomes is his quarterback,
and Patrick Mahomes said yesterday,
he said, I think I want to win this more for Andy Reid
than I want to win it for me.
This was cool.
It'd be amazing.
obviously. I mean, the work and that he's put in every single day, every single where he's been at,
I mean, he's had success. And so obviously, we want to get him that Super Bowl, but we understand
it's a process. We understand that first off, we got to come in and have a great practice today and
then play great this weekend and then try to give ourselves a chance to be in that game and get a
chance to get him that trophy. One of the reasons I've defended Andy Reid, because he had
Donovan McNabb, he had Jeff Garcia and Michael Vick, solid, not spectacular.
And he faced Kurt Warner in his prime.
He faced Aaron Rogers.
He lost once to the Aaron Rogers Packers team that won the Super Bowl.
He lost to Drew Breeze, an all-time Hall of Fame quarterback in New Orleans.
He lost to the, in Philadelphia, he went to a Super Bowl and lost to Brady in his prime and Belichick.
He lost to the greatest show on turf.
Remember that team?
He lost to that team in Philadelphia.
lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneer 2002 defense, which may be the best defense ever.
He was losing with Michael Vic, Donovan McNabb, Jeff Garcia, good not spectacular
quarterbacks to legendary defenses and legendary offenses and legendary quarterbacks.
Then he has Alex Smith and he goes over to the AFC and he loses to Tom Brady again and he
loses to Andrew Luck in the playoffs and he loses to Big Ben and the Steelers in the playoffs.
And I'm like, and then he loses to New England and overtime.
and I'm like, okay, okay, okay, with Alex Smith.
So I have defended him because I think he's had B quarterbacks,
and I'm not saying he hasn't had a couple of ugly losses.
He lost to Jake Del Lome over in Philadelphia.
He had a better team, and he lost to Marcus Mariotta in the game he should have won.
I'm not saying he hasn't had an ugly loss.
But never forget this.
Jimmy Johnson with a Cowboys, two Super Bowl, seven and one in the playoffs,
because he had Troy Aikman.
How did Jimmy Johnson do in Miami?
Well, he had a winning record, but he had a losing playoff record.
Why? Because Dan Marino was old and broken down.
And Troy Aikman, in his prime, is way better than Dan Marino out of his prime.
So even Jimmy Johnson, who just got elected into the Hall of Fame or put into the Hall of Fame,
you go into the playoffs with the second best quarterback, the second best roster, you're not going to win.
But this weekend it changes.
Patrick Mahomes is now the Kurt Warner, the Breeze, the Brady, the Big Ben, that Andy's got the best quarterback.
Andy's going to have the best quarterback for the next seven to ten years.
years as long as he coaches in these
AFC games and often
in the Super Bowl too. Because
the NFC may never have, you know, Russell
Wilson's up there, but Patrick
Mahomes is here. It's a
gap between Patrick and 95
percent of the quarterbacks in this league. In fact,
I think there's a big gap between Mahomes and Aaron
Rogers, who everybody loves.
So I have defended him forever.
But now
the tables are turning. Now
he's got the quarterback. And now
if Andy loses this weekend, or Ryan
Tanniel, now you can hammer him. Now the gloves you can take them off. I'll criticize Andy if Monday I'm coming to this show and they lose at home to Ryan Tannahill. Because for years I've said with Andy, give me a break on this. You're losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneer defense. You're losing to the greatest show on turf. You're losing to Belichick. You're losing to, you know, you're losing to Breeze and Kurt Warner. I got no problem with this. You know, you didn't have the quarterback. Now you do. Pressure's on my picks for both those games in 45 minutes from now.
All right, we are packed today.
I was just looking at my guest list a couple of minutes ago.
Holy crow.
Rich Ornberger this hour.
Peter King, Logan Ryan, Darius Slayton, championship picks.
Tomorrow's headlines today on the final hour.
Rob Parker subbing for that today.
He'll be an absolute riot.
Coming up next is I want to go deep in on San Francisco and Green Bay.
Because I think this game.
has a chance to get ugly.
I don't think it'll affect Aaron Rogers' career.
But he talked about pressure this week.
And there is one thing about Aaron Rogers
that is almost impossible to explain,
and maybe you can go to Twitter and tell me,
but it's a stat that's virtually impossible to explain.
And we'll explore it and try to explain it coming up next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.

I'm talking.
Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns,
Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Hey, Miss Park.

What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us
on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers,
why he got the ball like,
After you go through a training camp with that, I said, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Great to have you in.
Very excited, Rich Ormberger.
Former Patriot joins us.
People just loved when he came by last week on Friday.
I must have had five or six texts from buddies.
They were like, man, I just love having him on.
He really breaks down the game.
And he picked the Titans over Baltimore.
So he loved the Titans over Baltimore.
And he'll give us his thoughts on the Titans in Kansas City.
Again, a high-powered offense with a unique talent at quarterback.
And he loved Tennessee to go into Baltimore and win.
Can they do it again?
It's great to have you in.
So Green Bay at San Francisco, a game I think could get out of hand.
I think Green Bay is a 9-17, masquerading is 14 and 3.
We see this all the time.
You play in a bad division.
You have easier schedule.
I said, when I look at Green Bay this year,
the most impressive win they've had all year
was in week two against Minnesota
when they jumped out to a big lead.
Seattle last week outscored him in the second half.
Seattle was down two offensive linemen,
third string center.
They had no running backs.
And they struggled with them.
They struggled to put them away.
You see this all the time where there's a team
every year that makes the playoffs or every other year
with a big shiny record, but they feel more
9 and 7 and 10 and 6 than they do 14 and 3,
whereas San Francisco is about a field goal
and two plays away from being 16.
and one. And Aaron's never
want a playoff game when he's a touchdown or more
underdog. He was talking about the game. He said, hey, the pressure's
not on us. We're not supposed to win this week. We're supposed to get
whacked. You know, I think if you look at this game,
they're definitely favored by
what, seven and a half a time. Is that right? So they're, you know,
obviously expected to hold court and win.
And people know and
are talking about how we played the last time.
So I think if you look at pressure, the pressure is
in a certain place, and we should be nice and loose.
I don't think he's wrong.
I generally think the pressure is on teams that are favored,
and especially Kansas City and San Francisco,
you're at home, you're favored big.
I think he's probably right.
I hope he's loose, and I hope he takes risk
because he's become very risk-averse.
You know, it's interesting, though,
he is a great talent, but in 13 years he's had one great playoff run.
It's very funny when great teams or great players
struggle in certain situations.
There's always an answer for it.
I'll give you an example.
Roger Federer has won eight Wimbledons,
six Australian opens,
five U.S. opens,
greatest male tennis player, arguably forever,
but one French open.
Well, it's very explainable.
Rafi Nadal is the greatest clay court player ever,
and it's not close,
and he didn't have to play Rafi the one time
he won the French Open.
You can explain Federer's inability to win the French Open.
He's got 20 grand slam events.
He can't win the French Open because it happens to be one of his contemporary
is the greatest clay court player ever, Rafi Nadal.
I'll give you another example.
Phil Mickelson's a top 10 golf talent of all time, maybe top five.
It took him 13 years to win a major.
It took him forever to win a major.
He's only got five majors.
And you're like, why?
Well, because the greatest golfer,
arguably of all time was in his prime
when Mickelson was in his prime
and for that 10 to 12 year prime in golf
because golf will wear you down physically.
You start the wrists, the back, shoulders start
falling apart, especially the wrist in the back.
In the middle of his prime,
oh yeah, well, you know, Tiger Woods
was the, he was the, a comet.
He was winning everything.
The Colorado Rockies hit better at home
historically. Why? It's the altitude.
You can explain most
stuff. Here's one.
that I have, it just doesn't make any sense.
People think Aaron Rogers is the greatest quarterback talent, talent ever,
not best quarterback, not most productive, but greatest talent.
He's lousy on the road.
In games as which he started, he's a 500 road quarterback.
Now think about that.
His career road record, it's sub-500 in the playoffs.
That I can kind of understand.
You're facing the best teams.
but look at notable quarterbacks on the road that have played in the same era.
Tom Brady's 40 games over 500 on the road.
Peyton Manning's 40 games over 500.
Tony Romo is 37 and 22.
Big Ben's way over 500.
Russell Wilson's way over 500.
Drew Bree, a dome quarterback's way over 500.
Aaron Rogers is 500.
He's a one game away from being 500.
Why?
How?
That doesn't make any sense.
My takeaway, even this year,
as passer ratings over 100 at home,
it's below 90 on the road.
Why?
There's no Rafi at all here.
There's no Tiger Woods here to explain it.
Why?
In fact, when is he best on the road?
When he's comfortable at Detroit,
at Chicago, at Minnesota,
I think this is explainable
because I think Aaron Rogers is a little prickly.
he's a conductor at home in Lambo.
Quiet, please, the scoreboard says,
Aaron, when forced to be uncomfortable, struggles with it.
Peyton didn't, Breeze doesn't, Romo doesn't.
I think as Aaron is aged, he is playing safer football to protect his passer rating.
I really believe this.
And I think he's a guy that likes what he likes.
he won't throw to you if he doesn't like you.
He's a little prickly to deal with as a quarterback.
And if you make him a little uncomfortable, he's not the same guy.
He's not good with discomfort, which I don't think bodes well for Green Bay this weekend
because the Niners defensive front is in the business of making everybody incredibly uncomfortable.
So I think there is pressure on Aaron Rogers this weekend.
Deal with some discomfort, dude, because all your people,
peers don't become 500 quarterbacks when they get out of their comfort zone.
Breeze doesn't.
Romo didn't.
Ben doesn't.
Payton doesn't.
Tom doesn't.
You do.
You are not a good road quarterback.
That's going to stick on you.
And you can almost always explain great players with a weird stat.
Nadal?
Why can't Federer win the French Open?
Oh, Nadal.
Why didn't Phil win more majors?
Oh, Tiger.
Why doesn't Aaron win on the road?
He's an average quarterback on the road.
Passer ratings average.
Win's loss average.
Why?
Play is it safe?
Doesn't like discomfort.
So there is pressure on Aaron.
There's real pressure on him.
He's got to learn to play with some discomfort.
He's got to take some big swings.
Otherwise, they're getting blown out.
They're getting blown out in Santa Clara.
Joy with the News.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the Herdline News.
When Jimmy G was with the Patriots, he had a front-road seat to Tom Brady's preparation for three playoff runs, two of which resulted in Super Bowl wins.
And he shared what he took from his former teammate as he tries to lead the team to the Super Bowl himself.
I haven't personally talked to him, but just, you know, things that I took away from watching him go through and everything is just, you know, the consistency that he had throughout the entire run, whatever it was.
The first playoff game was Super Bowl.
He was very consistent between all of it.
And I think that just goes to your preparation throughout the week.
If you're prepared going into the game, then you're going to play like that.
It's kind of everything that Aaron Rogers was talking about.
I really feel like the teams that win in big moments are teams that go into it with this mentality.
It's really preparation.
Like, for example, the show.
We could come here with no prep.
And had lib our way through.
And figure out, you know, we would get through three hours.
It would be brutal, but we could figure it out.
It would be brutal for our standards.
It wouldn't be brutal compared all our contemporaries.
That's coming from Colin.
But we prepare.
And when you're prepared, you're not nervous.
Like, when people ask, like, are you nervous when you go on television?
Like, no, because I'm very prepared.
I've done hours of prep.
We've been prepping all day for this.
All nights.
Like, we come here knowing what we have to do.
And that's the thing with New England is when they, when you do the same, I told my wife this
the other day.
My daughter was, she, I told my daughter, I said, listen, you're in college.
You have inconsistent hours.
Right.
I said, pick an hour at night and try to go to bed within an hour of that target.
So I said 10.30 at night.
Because she'll stay up and do homework till four.
She'll screw around till two on the internet.
And I'm like, you have inconsistent hours.
Adults that I've known that are successful, because she wants to be successful, have consistent lives.
You can't be going to bed at four in the morning, one morning, seven at night, taking six hour naps.
Consistency is a healthier way to live.
and it's also a way in which you get into patterns
and you don't stress out.
My daughter can stress out
and I'm like, I think you stress out
because you have these weird hours in your life.
Create consistency.
I love routines.
So do I.
I know it's so boring, but I'm like,
I know tomorrow I'm going to wake up and do this.
There's no stress in your life.
I know exactly what kind of hours a day I have that are flexible.
And like that's what goes into these big games.
I felt like what happened with like say the Ravens
and these meltdowns is you start.
getting so hyped up and like getting out of character, you know what to do. You know we've been
doing this all season. Don't try and go for a 20 point play. It doesn't exist. Just do just go play by
play. You saw that with the Chiefs. No panic. We know what to do. This is what we do. We prepared for
this. It's possible that the other team might score a few touchdowns. Yeah. We'll be all right.
So Derek Henry has been bullying defenses during the Titans incredible playoff run. And he had at least
30 carries in each playoff game so far. And he hopes to get the same workload against the Chiefs on Sunday,
on Sunday.
I think I get in the rhythm
the more curious I get
and get a better feel
for the game as the game goes on.
I think to stay focused
and take one game at a time,
you know, as we're preparing
and don't get too far ahead of ourselves.
He is the first player
in league history to have two games
with over 180 rushing
yards in the same postseason.
In the passing era.
You'd think you'd go back
to the 70s, 60s, you'd see those
like Jim Brown numbers, but it's incredible.
But think about this,
he's averaging
during the regular season, 20.2 carries per game. He's averaging 32 carries per game in the
postseason. Go back to his Alabama career. I remember in Alabama in the big games. I mean,
I think they handed to him once like 42 times. Like he's a guy that Nick Saban generally
doesn't wear out all his running backs, but he leaned on Derek Henry. I remember that last year
Bami was there. I mean, it was 35 carries and bit like LSU game, the championship games. And they're
going to lean on him on Sunday. And the Chief's defense allowed 100.
128.2 rushing yards
per game during the regular season.
Their rush defense
ranked seventh worst in the league.
I don't know.
It seems like their whole game plan is to stop him.
Finally, the Bengals are expected to take Joe Burrow
with the first pick in the draft this year, as we know.
And his dad, Jimmy, says Joe would have
no problem going to Cincinnati.
He's excited to even be in that conversation.
And if Bengals do draft him, he's going to be happy.
And he's probably seen some of his interviews.
He's very confident.
And, you know, he'll look at it as a challenge,
but he'll be confident that eventually they can win a lot of games there at Cincinnati.
I know his dad is.
He coached in Canada, you know that?
Yeah, he coached for a long time.
I know he's kind of trying to smooth over this rumblings that he's going to refuse to go to Cincinnati.
But just like having to say that alone kind of leans towards like maybe you should consider it.
Listen, I'm not against Cincinnati as a city.
or a fan base.
Yeah, I don't know.
And really overall, like, as a team or organization,
they've had some exciting great players,
and it's not like they're not the Browns.
Like, they've been managed to put some things together.
Marvin Lewis did not have a terrible run there.
No.
But I think everyone just feels like,
I would not be mad at him if he refused to go there.
Elway and Eli Manning said, I'm not going to your organization.
Elway and Eli Manning, what, five Super Bowls?
Hall Famers.
Yeah.
I mean, I get it east from Ohio.
Like, it wouldn't go over well.
for some people, but eventually in the long run,
it matters so much where you go in the beginning of your career as a quarterback.
And look at Baker Mayfield.
Yeah.
Good stuff, Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
Former NFL offensive linemen, Dante Scarnackiott and the Patriots is where it all started for him.
He's now doing radio in San Diego, and we get to bring him up a few more times here before the end of the season.
And we love him.
Rich Orrumburger, let's bring him on.
Last week made the bold prediction of Tennessee over Baltimore.
It's funny.
There's a thing called Warren Buffett, the investor, talks about this.
Inner scoreboard and outer scoreboard.
A lot of guys talk crap.
You know, guys are crap talkers.
Oh, yeah.
And Warren Buffett says, if you've got a strong inner scoreboard,
you don't care what people think of you.
Nick Saban talks about this.
So Baltimore's outer scoreboard was,
We've all in, baby.
Then they got into the game and got down, and they panicked a little.
Right.
Kansas City says we don't care what people think about us.
They got down, and their inner scoreboard was, what do we care?
I thought, let's go back to your prediction.
I think Baltimore had some deep concerns about Lamar that they didn't advertise,
and the minute they got down, the inner scoreboard was crap.
Kansas City's inner scoreboard was, we have zero concerns.
So go back to your predictions.
Were you surprised that Baltimore, it felt a little panicky even in the first half?
I wasn't surprised because really what you saw was the light of day.
They had a couple of corners that still need sweeping.
And you can't address those corners mid-season.
Lamar Jackson, for everything that he is, there are still some limitations to his game.
And that's, it's not fair to see.
say, and he can't fix them because he probably will. He's that talented, but there still are some
limitations to his game. And also, he's still young. So some of those throws over the middle,
they sail on him because, you know, you get nervous and you put a little too much pepper.
And, you know, and I think the game plan really stuck to what they did well all season long,
which was trying to highlight his running ability and start with the run game and then use his
throwing as a compliment, but they got behind too fast. And then all of a sudden the light of day
is shining its light as bright as it possibly can on all these corners that still had a couple
cobwebs. And that's what you saw. You saw an offensive team start to wilt under the pressure of,
boy, we now have to play from behind against a very physical football team. And they didn't have enough.
They didn't have enough to get it done against the Titans last week. You know, we are in the business.
I talk a lot of football. NFL is about 62% of my show, and I usually talk about quarterbacks.
And most of the great quarterbacks I love and most of the guys that are bad, I don't.
I would say the exception to it is I've been more critical of Aaron Rogers than other people.
I just talked about his road record, which is for his contemporaries, is bizarrely average.
I have noticed something else with Aaron, and I had kind of a theory this week.
Aaron's gotten more safe over the last four to five years.
He's leading the league in throwways.
He now will throw to nobody not named Devante Adams.
And I do not think you can beat great teams like San Francisco or Kansas City playing it safe.
You've got to take some shots.
And he is certainly going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer.
No doubt.
He's on Green Bay's Mount Rushmore.
He's got the State Farm commercials, $250 million in net worth or whatever it is.
Aaron, you've got to take some big swings this weekend.
Garopoulos, I think, 3 and 0 with two or more picks this year.
When you have a defense as good as he doesn't have the legacy, but when you have a defense like Jimmy does, you've got to take some big cuts.
and is it, this is one of my things about Aaron.
I think in the last four or five years,
it's like he's protecting something.
He's gotten a little too safe for me.
Is that fair?
Is it fair?
Yeah, look, I mean,
young men play chicken, right?
Where you stare down an opponent and you say,
I'm not blinking, are you?
As you get older, I mean,
especially at positions where if you persevere,
if you stay durable, your team has a better chance,
it's actually, it's actually better.
it's smarter to play it safer, to throw some more of those balls away, to take the slide as opposed to taking the hit.
And so Aaron Rogers, like many of the great quarterbacks who've lasted in this league beyond their mid-30s,
is starting to acquies to that thought process.
I need to preserve myself for our team to have the best chance.
So, yeah, it's fair what you're saying, but at the same token, this is the maturity of the position.
This is what all of these guys have to learn.
in fact, post-game after the Packers Ravens game, he said to Lamar Jackson,
and maybe mixing some sliding a little bit.
Because he's forecasting for Lamar.
He's saying, this is what I've learned.
I want you to inherit that too.
I want you to understand what you're up against because you could be great for a long time.
But back to Aaron, yeah, I mean, in this game especially, it may have to be about him
because that is a physical rough defense.
That's a rough group on the defensive side.
Robert Sala is leading.
for the 49ers.
So I think you're going to have to take some chunks in order to get the win.
I'm a huge fan of Andy Reid, and I think mostly with Jeff Garcia-level quarterbacks,
McNabb, good players, Alex Smith, good players.
Sure.
Not Hall of Famers, but good, respectable guys.
You know, he lost to Kurt Warner twice, and he lost Aaron Rogers, the Super Bowl team,
and he lost a Brady multiple times.
And you start looking at all these guys that he faced, and you're like, well, yeah,
he lost to the Packer team with Aaron Rogers that was on fire in Breeze in New Orleans.
and Kurt Warner and the best defense, the Tampa Bay defense, and the greatest show on turf,
and Andrew Luck, and you're like, okay, I can live with this.
He had a couple of ugly losses, but he almost always had a quarterback deficit in Philly and Kansas City.
Now he doesn't.
So this is the first time this weekend.
I'm like, Andy, you got to win this weekend.
Is that fair?
I think it's fair.
I mean, if you look at just position and position and you're trying to sort of say,
who would you rather go into this game with the Chiefs players or the Titans players?
You might say the Chiefs.
Now, does that mean they're the better team?
Not necessarily, but they have better players.
I mean, their offensive weapons are scary.
Once you get to their fourth receiver and you're still talking about Sammy Watkins?
Are you kidding me?
Who's covering?
Like, if you leave your big personnel on the field defensively, who the heck is covering Kelsey and Watkins?
Me, Cole Hard me, have Tyree Kill.
you are just loaded for bears.
So personnel to personnel, it feels like the chiefs have the advantage.
But that's a damn good team on the other side of the ball now.
The Titans are scary.
And so I understand the thought process is this is a need to win game.
And it may be for a legacy play.
But Andy Reid has the hottest young quarterback and the best offense, really,
anybody has in the NFL.
And he's going to have him for a while.
So if not this year, you may say then win.
Well, maybe next year.
Because they're that good.
Yeah.
All right, stick around.
You picked the Titans over the Ravens.
I'm going to ask for your two picks coming up.
Lay it out there.
We, not that we rolled our eyes at you, Rich, but we did say he's drinking before he gets on the air.
There's a problem.
So we'll come back with your picks.
That's coming up.

he has no shot at making this World Cup team.

It wouldn't be a huge surprise.

Weather can be unpredictable on the road. Doesn't mean it has to be a difficult in your car.
Michelin Endurance X.T. Silicon Wiper Blades available at Walmart last two times longer than
other blades. Rich Orrumburger, former NFL offensive lineman played for the
the Giants, San Diego, Arizona, and of course, New England Patriots.
We talked about last week, Dante Scarnacchio, the best coach he ever had.
And coaching becomes so important.
Let's start with the Packers 49ers.
Something that became pretty clear this year, and this is, I think we talked about it.
Matt LaFleur on the script has been terrific.
They are not a good adjustment team.
They were outscored last week 20 to 7.
Kyle Shanahan is one of the few young coaches who was not only good on script.
He's terrific at half time, which generally is kind of a bellwether quality of your Tomlins,
your Belichicks, your older coaches.
I think this is a little bit of a coaching mismatch and a little bit of a roster mismatch.
I like San Francisco.
What does Green Bay have to do as a former offensive lineman to tame that Niner defensive front?
Really, what you have to do is establish a physical dominance, a mindset that they're not getting away from you and they want to.
You know, it's difficult because they are loaded for bear on the defensive side.
And the biggest obstacle you're up against, as far as like the trench battle between your
offensive line as the Green Bay Packers and that defensive front provided by the 49ers
is the fact that they're so deep.
So they're fresh.
It is really alarming where it's the third quarter and you're like, oh, man, I finally
figured this guy out.
And all of a sudden you have a defensive line and go like this, he leaves the game.
And the next man in is just as good as he is.
and he's got to move.
Maybe you haven't explored as deeply in your film study,
and all of a sudden you have a whole new ballgame with a fresh face.
That's the threat that San Francisco poses.
And John Lynch has done a phenomenal job of building a strong roster from the trenches outward.
And that's why they've really been so dominant this season in the run game
and defending the run defensively.
You know, Jimmy G will make the, you know, Greg Cosell came on yesterday.
He said, if you look at San Francisco's offense, they asked Jimmy G to throw the ball in the middle of the field, and it's crowded.
And sometimes the linebacker drops, and Jimmy doesn't see it.
They don't ask Jimmy to make 12 great throws.
He's not a life preserver.
I do like him, and I think he is prone to the occasional young quarterback pick.
Your thoughts on Jimmy G. in this game.
I think Jimmy G. has to win this game, because if I'm the Packers, what I'm trying to do is stop the run at all costs.
And like Greg Cocell said, protect the middle of the field.
Force all of those harder sideline throws.
If you're going to beat us, you're going to beat us with Garoppolo's arm,
and you're going to beat us on those deep outs.
You're going to beat us on the go routes.
Should we be in man coverage and you caught us with our pants down?
And you have separation down the field.
If you can make those touch throws under pressure with guys crowding the line of scrimmage
and taking away the middle of the field, well, then you deserve to win.
But that would be my game plan going into this game if I'm the Packers.
stop the run, protect the middle of the field, force this quarterback who's untested at this level
as a starter to beat you with his arm. Can he do it? It's really, we're on to unknown territory.
We'll find out. Your gut feeling sounds like you do like San Francisco's personnel.
I do. I would take the 49ers in this game. And it's really for the same reason,
well, and we'll get to the Titans Chiefs game. But think about the physicality of the
postseason. Why do we talk
about the physicality of the postseason? It's because
the officials let them play.
Same in the NBA playoffs. It becomes a
different sport. That's why veteran men
beat kids in NBA playoffs. Refes swallow whistles.
Yeah. Hand-checking is allowed
in the playoffs in the NBA and you got
a lot more, you know,
you feed the pain. You're not
going to get the foul every time. So,
it's the same thing in the NFL.
You have the ability to knock
around receivers. So who are
the Packers threats. I mean, Jimmy Graham sometimes. Devante Adams is a star. You have some other guys
who have really helped them ascend this season. But if you have this fierce, tough, physical group on the
defensive side of the 49ers knocking around receivers and not getting flags like you do in the
regular season, I think that the 49ers are going to win this game. And it's because the guys,
the flags are going to set all the laundry is staying in the pockets. Let's go to Kansas City and
Tennessee, you know, at some point, how many times can you get in a plane, fly home, then get in a
plane, fly in the road, lose a half a day to a day of prep and rest. I like Kansas City.
Your thoughts? I like the Titans. I like the Titans, and it's because of what they've done.
They're so battle tested. You know, there becomes this war cry inside of a building when you're
road warriors and you know who you are and you feel like you're unstoppable. You know, in order
to run through the wall, you have to believe you're going to run through the wall. Otherwise,
you're going to crack your head open. And this Tennessee Titans team against all odds have run
through the wall. And they beat the dynasty in New England. And they beat the juggernaut of the
Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. And they're going to go to Kansas City. By the way, the place where
the Chiefs lost three games in the regular season, not a great home team during the regular season.
One loss on the road, but three losses at home. And I know Patrick Mahomes was injured for part of the
season. But that's something. It says something to me. It's a place where they've had some failure.
Well, they fell behind 24-0 nothing last week. Exactly. And I mean, to save the day, it took a lot.
And that emotion takes a lot out of you. I feel like just from the standpoint of running into this
game with a full head of steam, the Titans look like a team. And again, the more physical team in
this matchup. The officials are going to let more go. Rable knows that. Trust me, he knows that.
And he's going to use it to his advantage defense. Isn't that going to be the craziest thing?
If Tennessee ends up in the Super Bowl, this is why, I've said this for years about the NBA,
you've got to get out of this seven-game first and second round playoff series.
Right.
Knocked LeBron off game one.
Then LeBron's like freaking, it's a three-game series.
In game two, it creates this massive urgency.
If these were seven-game series, Tennessee isn't getting out of the first round, right?
But this is the NFL.
If Tennessee comes in and establishes the ground in the first 12 minutes,
and Kansas City goes down
and then all of a sudden you start panicking.
That's what Baltimore did.
They started panicking.
And this urgency and this suddenness,
it's so Tennessee is playing with house money.
There is no pressure on Tennessee this weekend.
And they're built so well.
And I have no idea why Arthur Smith,
this offensive coordinator,
didn't get more buzz during this NFL head coaching hiring process
because what he's done,
midseason changes quarterback,
Ryan Tannehill, who was almost left for dead in Miami, becomes a stud, the best completion percentage.
I mean, it's unbelievable.
And then he has the rushing leader.
I mean, they are, like you said, playing with house money.
And they have a team full of believers.
And Rable, I mean, he is just coaching up these guys to be bad guys, right?
You know, I mean, when they take the field, they're all good guys off the field.
But when they take the field, they take on that persona of, man, we're just.
we're going to come after you and we're going to hunt you down.
And that's just fun to watch for me.
And postseason allows for it.
And I think the more physical team wins.
By the way, do you know who the richest coach is in the NFL?
I do not.
It's the Titans offensive coordinator.
His dad is Fred Smith, the founder of FedEx.
No kidding.
I'd had no idea.
Either did I, until I was at a bar as I'm prone to do.
And I'm sitting next to somebody.
Yeah.
His name is Braun.
He's an L.A. kid.
He is married to Fred Smith's daughter.
It's a great family.
Yeah.
And she's just down to earth.
You never know.
She works in Hollywood.
And we're talking.
And he goes, I'm going to the Titan game this weekend.
And I'm like, I'm sitting next to a bar in L.A.
with friends.
He's like, my wife's brother coaches the Titans offense.
And we start talking.
I'm like, Memphis.
And he starts talking about Memphis.
And I'm like, Smith, Fred.
He goes, yeah.
The founder of FedEx, his son.
is the coordinator for the Titans.
Well, he's about to make a whole lot of money on his own volition.
Because, I mean, like Matt LaFleur now is leading this Packers team deep in the postseason.
I think that you're going to see the same thing with him.
You don't get that trivia anywhere else, folks.

Rick Orimberger is predicting the Titans beat the Kansas City Chiefs.
He predicted the Titans would beat the Baltimore Ravens.
They are a very good road team this year.
Actually, Tennessee was a better road team than a home.
team this show. Joy's freaking out.
I am. I'm, the more
I think about it, like literally my palms
are spreading. I don't know.
I just, I don't know.
Because honestly, Rich just scared me.
Because remember last week when he said it? We were like,
it's kind of like a hot take,
but it doesn't look that way anymore.
Derek Henry is scary.
I am concerned.
Well, it's funny in sports. Good to have
you and everybody.
Sports is interesting. Tennessee is a great
story at this point. Right. They're not a
great team. And if you go look at, we'll see this sometimes in college basketball or in college football.
You get Hawaii's 13 and 0. They're a great story. They play Georgia, a great team. They get crushed.
We see this in the final four, the elite eight. You'll have like shock a smart took like a VCU or somebody.
It's a great story. George Mason, but they're not a great team. And I do think if you look at the history of, you know, we see this in the NBA.
You see great stories, but they ultimately lose to great teams and great personnel.
So with that, let me make my two picks for the Super Bowl.
Here we go.
Titans at Chiefs.
The Titans are getting seven.
I would take the points here, but very reluctantly.
Kansas City has a better roster, and they're 7 and 0.
Since they lost to the Titans in week 10, they've won all of those by over seven points.
They're averaging 31 a game.
Their turnover differential is plus six.
Some of that is luck.
But the reality is there's a fatigue factor I can't get over.
Remember, Tennessee's last game of the regular season was on the road.
So they've gone to Houston and to New England and to Baltimore and now Kansas City.
I just think this is a great story against a great team.
And I think there's going to be a fatigue factor.
But I will say this.
Tennessee's O-line and running game is built to make Kansas City uncomfortable.
You can't out Kansas City, Kansas City, okay?
Don't get into a track meet with this team.
If San Francisco or Green Bay face Kansas City,
their game plan is going to be run the hell out of the football
and make them sit and watch.
So Tennessee is built to beat Kansas City.
I just think it's too big of an ask.
I mean, if they were off a bye,
if it was their second road game.
You're going to ask Derek Henry again to have 33 carries
and ask this team to get in a plane again and play on the road.
I do think Kansas City also create some playoff matchups,
perimeter matchups here that Tennessee doesn't have an answer for.
So I'm going to take Kansas City to win 28 to 23.
I did not bet this game.
I think the line's close.
I don't say this with any great confidence.
Better roster, better team over a great story.
Next.
Packers at 49ers.
Now, I did bet this game.
I put a little candy on this.
I think San Francisco minus seven and a half is the side.
I think it could get ugly.
Listen, this is a Green Bay team that's kind of masquerading as a 14 and 3 team
that's been outgained in 10 games this year.
Over the last 30 years, rookie head coaches are three and eight in these games.
I think their head coach is going to be outcoached.
They're at a coaching deficit.
Since week 10, Devonthe Adams has,
been targeted 91 times. Aaron Rogers hasn't targeted any other receiver more than 35 times.
And Aaron is 0 and 4 all time against top 10 past defenses, and this is a number one pass
defense. I think Aaron is going to have to play uncomfortable and take major risks. I don't think
that is now who he is. I think San Francisco is going to bracket Devante Adams and crowd the box
and say, throw to your other guys,
and I don't think Aaron's comfortable with that.
I think San Francisco, in so many ways,
they can beat you with power.
They can beat you with Debo and Emmanuel Sanders.
They can beat you with George Kittle.
They can do power.
They can go over the top.
They can beat you with turnovers.
This is a team.
Green Bay does not have a lot of margin for error.
Garoppolo, 3 and O this year when he had two or more picks.
They don't have to play,
perfect to win this game. San Francisco is about a field goal and a fumble from being 16 and 1.
Aaron Rogers this year went 9 and 1 in one possession games. That's a lot of luck.
Now you say to yourself, no, it's not Aaron's great. Aaron's a little above 500 in his career in one possession, one score games.
Last week, Seattle, Russell Wilson was 11 and 2 this year in one score games. You're like, oh, that's because Russell's great.
Russell Wilson and his career is a little better than 500 in one score games.
Seattle was living off these one score wins.
Games, you don't win like, you don't win Super Bowls.
Green Bay is living off one possession, one score games, and winning all of them, nine of ten.
That's going to run out.
San Francisco wins here, 33, 23, 23.
By 10, feel comfortable saying, I'll put a little scratch on that, put a little candy on that.
By the way, what's interesting about, we have four possible.
Super Bowl matchups.
And I've said, you know, I mean,
Kansas City against either team in the NFC
is going to be a massive rating.
But I thought, you know,
if you were a marketing director
and you had to do like a movie poster
for the Super Bowls, at Fox,
how do we advertise all four of these potential Super Bowls?
How do we advertise them?
And I think the easy one is if Kansas City
faced San Francisco,
you would do the movie poster,
lethal weapons. I mean, you got
Kiddell, and you got Andy Reed,
and you got Garapolo, and I got Patrick
Mahomes, and I got Tyreek Kill.
That's a very easy
movie poster for
the 49ers and the Chiefs.
It's lethal weapons. That makes sense. I like
that. Yeah. If the
Niners, there's an upset,
and the Niners face the Titans,
the movie poster to me would be
Beauty and the Beast. I mean, let's be
honest with Derek Henry. He is
a beast. He is a beast.
yards rushing week after week, and then Jimmy Garoppolo is beautiful.
I mean, let's just be honest about that.
He's a handsome man.
Now, what if it was Titans Packers?
Matt LaFleure used to coach Clash of the Titans.
You'd have Tennessee against the Green Bay team coached by the former Titan offensive
coordinator, Clash of the Titans.
And then if you had Chiefs Packers, it would be enemy of the state.
Farm.
How stupid are we?
These guys are the stars of the state farm commercials.
So these are the movie posters that we will consider as we get into what my gut tells me.
It's Kansas City, San Francisco.
But you know what?
It just never works out that way.
Well, I want to announce something.
We have another major announcement.
We do this on this show because we're loving and caring.
Do you know what happened this morning?
At midnight?
Um, yes.
It is happy birthday for Joy Taylor.
Let's hear it for Joy Taylor.
It is Joy Taylor's birthday.
Bring out the cake.
Thank you.
Look at this.
Oh, yes.
Uncle Jimmy.
Ha!
Thank you.
Happy birthday, girl.
Happy birthday, anime.
Oh, I love it.
Eat the cake.
Eat the cake anime.
Happy birthday girl.
Uncle Jimmy from Speak for Yourself.
All right now.
Can we show it?
It's a...

You make me think.
You're super talented.
and to add to this in about 10 days,
we're going to your kind of kind of hometown.
Yeah, it's, yeah, it's my second home.
Your second home.
But yeah, I'm very excited to go to Miami.
And also at midnight is also Anne's birthday.
It is Anne's birthday today.
Happy birthday, Ann.
And you know what Anne decided to do today?
Leave me and go hang out with her girlfriends in Salt Lake City.
Yeah, well, I'm going on a girl's trip too.
She's going up to the ski mountain to hang out with her girlfriends.
I'm like, that's some birthday.
She deserves it. Yeah, she does. She's great as well.
Thank you, guys. Oh, you bet. Peter King, thank you, Joy. Peter King is coming up next.
You know, it's as big and momentous as any NFL weekend all year. And here it is.
Niners Packers, Titans Chiefs. That's coming up.

And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes,
hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rep, my mom want you to wave at her.

This Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast,
Point game is about defying the odds.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius.
Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court,
licking his fingers, why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

FS1 Super Bowl Week live from Miami is just two weeks away.
By the way, I was reading a story yesterday, Joy.
You know how sometimes, you know, most of the cities that deserve pro teams have them.
Right.
But I always felt Vegas was uniquely capable of having an NFL team.
I agree.
A, in the winter, your weather's pretty good.
So if you're, you put, you know, the Raiders, a Denver fan or a Kansas City fan in December,
would love to do the road trip to Las Vegas.
Raiders yesterday, I think it's the last place in America that didn't have a pro, like, major pro team.
It's going to be a home run.
Raiders have now officially sold out all their PSLs.
Yeah.
All the tickets for the Raiders are selling out.
This is, you know, generally over the last 15 years, we've kind of wedged, you know, baseball to Miami.
It's, you know, nobody wants to play outside in Miami in the summer.
There's been a lot of these like Jacksonville NFL.
You're like, New Orleans NBA didn't really work the first time.
It's been, we kind of wedge teams into, I think you could take four teams out of every league and everybody would be fine.
You know, the warm weather hockey experiment hasn't been great, right?
Raiders in Vegas, the ticket sales, through the roof.
Yeah, that doesn't surprise me at all.
I think people have this idea of Vegas, you know, because it's Vegas.
And for the most part, it's earned.
Like, it is Las Vegas.
But we saw with the hockey team there, they had the local support instantly.
And people love to go to Vegas.
For L.A., it's so easy.
You can go for literally a day trip, fly to be back to the next day.
It's a 42-minute flight from where I sit until Vegas.
There's one every single hour.
Salt Lake's close.
Phoenix close.
L.A. is close.
San Francisco.
Everything's an hour flight.
So if your team's there,
60% of the tickets for the Raiders were sold to Nevada residents.
Right.
40% were sold for people out of the state.
And there's so many casinos there.
Like they're all going to have boxes.
They're going to give way to high rollers.
Like that place is going to be, it's not going to be, you know, the black hole,
but it's going to be a very unique experience.
Good stuff.
Let's go.
NBC Sports.
Peter King, via the coward.
Global Satellite Network brought to you by Mercedes-Benz, the best or nothing.
You know, it's interesting.
I think when you get to the end of the year, coaching is really significant.
Last year, we had Belichick and Sean Payton and McVeigh and Andy Reed.
And here's the thing.
I know Green Bay is 14 and 3 with Matt LaFleur, Peter.
They have not been a good team after half.
They've been very good on script, as many young coaches are.
that the numbers for Aaron Rogers in, you know, completion percentage,
passer rating have come down a tick.
Mike McCarthy clearly is capable.
Cowboys think so.
I don't know.
I look at these four teams left.
Is Matt LaFleur proven yet?
Like, what do we know and what don't we know about him?
Well, I would answer that in this way.
When you have a quarterback who in the last five minutes of a game has,
crucial. Third and ten, third and nine, third and eight, and he converts every one, two of them
with absolute beautiful pinpoint passes down the field. Coaching is important, but I sat with
Matt Lafleur for 10 minutes or so after last week's game, and he realizes that when you have a
quarterback like Aaron Rogers, who can perform as well down the stretch, you know, that,
that helps you be a much better coach. Because Colin, think about this. If any one of those three
passes are incomplete down the stretch, oh yeah, you're going to give Russell Wilson, Russell Wilson
the ball back with more than two minutes left and at least two timeouts left and down by five
points. I mean, I don't know about you, but I'll take Russell Wilson in that case.
Yeah. You know, it's Andy Reid. I supported Andy Reid today. I said, you know,
Andy Reid was in the NFC, and he lost to Kurt Warner a couple times, and Aaron Rogers,
Super Bowl winning team, and Breeze in New Orleans, the Buccaneer defense in 2002, the greatest
show on turf, and he was doing it with Jeff Garcia, Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick. Then he goes to
Kansas City with Alex Smith. You know, he's losing to Andrew Luck, and he's losing to Tom Brady, a
couple times. He lost a big Ben. I'm not saying he didn't have a couple ugly losses in between,
but he was at a quarterback deficit in most of his playoff losses, sometimes a substantial
deficit. It all changes this weekend. This is the first time, and I love Andy Reid, that if he
lost this weekend, it feels like you could drop the hammer a little on him about the playoff
stuff. Is that fair to you? Well, you know, what I always say when people say Andy Reid can't
win the big one. And look, in last year was just one more example. You know, you're at home in the
AFC championship game. You know, what I say is, you know, let's let each team get a shot at having
the ball instead of let coin flip decide who's going to get the ball first. And quite honestly,
I mean, if Kansas City got the ball first, does anybody doubt that Patrick Mahomes in that situation
after ripping up the Patriots, you know, series after series.
Does anybody doubt that Mahomes would have gone the length of the field?
And who would you have liked in the Super Bowl?
Would you have liked Andy Reed and Patrick Mahomes?
Or would you have liked Sean McVeigh and Jared Gough?
I know who I would have liked.
So again, I get that narrative, but I'm not in love with it.
I mean, look, if he makes a Bill O'Brien,
fake punt call from his own 21, up 17 points on fourth and four, well, then I might drop the hammer
on him, yeah. But let's see what happens in the game first before we sort of project what the storyline
is. It does feel like to me, you know, you have one-offs. The Rams maybe were a one-off or a team has a
great year gets to a Super Bowl. But it does feel like to me, if you look at the historic dynasties,
People are aligned.
Kobe and Shaq in the end were not aligned.
You only got three titles.
Pippin and MJ wanted the same thing.
If you look at Brady and Belichick,
wanted the same thing.
I look at Kansas City with Reed and Patrick Mahomes,
very selfless, very giving.
I think they both want to be considered all-timers.
It does feel like to me.
I don't think I'm hyperbolic here.
We just saw a dynasty end,
and I can see the next one coming,
in Kansas City where the current rules of the NFL are built for Andy Reed and Patrick Mahomes.
Is that seem too hyper or do you sense it to this Kansas City thing is a 10-year play?
Well, I'll just say this.
The one thing I remember talking to Andy Reid about this late in his Philadelphia tenure.
I remember saying to him, I said, you know, the interesting thing about your career is that there's very, very few teams in the NFL who can say
that the week that they go to training camp,
the last week of July,
when you go to training camp,
you know it's not just a feeling or a hope,
but you know that you've got a very good chance
of playing deep into January.
And Andy Reid's teams always did.
Now that he has Mahomes,
every year when he goes to training camp,
he's going to know that if our defense is good enough,
we could play deep into January.
And if everything goes right,
we could play the first week of February too.
But there's a very big bud in there.
And that is if you spend so much money,
so much cap money on your offense,
on your quarterback,
on his weapons,
on your line,
is there going to be enough
to build consistently great defenses?
Very fair.
Or I should say maybe top 10 defenses.
And that's my,
that would be my only asterisk.
But as long as you,
you got Mahomes, you should have a chance to play deep into every January. By the way, that's
very fair. We talk to Nick Wright, who's from Kansas City. You start paying a quarterback $39 million.
At some point, you lose your second best receiver and your second best offensive tackle and
your second best pass rusher and your good, not special. Let's go back to Green Bay, San Francisco.
Listen, I love John Lynch. I covered him in Tampa. It was my last NFL beat. He worked at Fox.
are you surprised at the Shanahan John Lynch combo Garoppolo thing has worked to this level this quickly?
No, I'm not surprised because I think, first of all, the cupboard was not completely bare when they took over.
They had a good base of talent on the defensive line that they have obviously added to, you know, with Thomas and Bosa in particular Bosa.
and also getting D Ford.
And I think don't forget what happens to you
if you've got a really good defensive front, which they do,
and a quarterback who keeps you in every single game.
And those are the two things they have
and that they were very conscious of.
And look, I'll always think,
and I want to know the story one day.
And I think maybe Bill Belichick, Kyle Shanahan, or John Lynch,
you know, 20 years after they retire, one of them is going to say,
here's the real story behind the Garapolo trade, you know,
because I'd like to know how Garapolo for a two makes sense.
Yeah.
You know, in this climate where I believe that teams like Cleveland would have paid more,
but Belichick seemed to want Garapolo to go to a place where he would have a chance,
not a place where he would die in quicksand every year.
By the way, I, it, I, one of the,
the things I notice about sports, and I've always been fascinated, that for instance, in the NBA,
everybody now shoots threes, which is now opening up the mid-range jumper because nobody
defends it. So Kauai Leonard and Chris Paul are having great seasons. It's cyclical. In the NFL,
over the last six to seven years, the rules legislated have made it more of a passing league.
But in the last year, the Niners are actually a power running team. Tennessee is a power running
team. And so I think his teams have drafted more perimeter players, faster linebackers, smaller
linebackers for this passing league to be a linebacker in space, it's opening the door for
the Titans. Like when I look at San Francisco, I actually see a running team. How about you?
Absolutely. It's not only that you see a running team, but at the beginning of the year,
their big weakness was no consistent deep threat. But I, but I, it's, it's not only that you see a running team, but at the beginning of the year, in in in in in in in, in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in in front, but at the
big weakness was no consistent deep threat. But I think the thing that they do have, you're
absolutely right. They went into training camp this year with four real high quality running backs.
And, you know, they've lost two of them due to injury for much of the year. But the other thing
you have to remember, Colin. And this goes to your praise of John Lynch. John Lynch and his personnel
director, Adam Peters, in 2017, in the fifth round, they had a need for a developmental
tight end.
Okay?
And they looked at this guy who only caught like 48 passes in his career at Iowa, was a real
underachiever.
I don't know this, but I've always wondered if that coaching staff at Iowa was very
lukewarm about him.
And so maybe, even though he was a talented guy, maybe talk.
some people out of them out of drafting them real high. And that was to the benefit of the San
Francisco 49ers. And now they have a guy in George Kittle, who not only is the son of a Big 10
football player, but who basically now clears out the middle many times by himself. He's a physical
freak. You know, he just wants to steamroll people. And so to me,
you can't forget that when you talk about what is one of the things that's made their running game go.
Not just good running backs, but teams have to pay so much attention on defense to George Kittle.
Yeah, I watched the NFL films piece of video on George Kiddell over the weekend.
It was on social media.
He just manhandled Everson Griffin twice in that game.
One of the league's better pass rushers.
Peter King, NBC Sports.
Good seeing you.
Have a great weekend, Peter.
You bet.
Weather can be unpredictable at times.
Don't make it inside the car tough to drive, though.
Go to Walmart.
They last two times longer than other blades.
They're called Michelin Endurance XT silicone wiper blades, real world proven.
Before the end of the hour, Logan Ryan Titans DB will join us.
The former Patriot, too, Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Backers are on a six-game win streak heading into the NFC championship game against the 49ers.
They're big underdogs in this game,
but DeVante Adams thinks that all the pressure is on San Francisco.
This is a great opportunity.
We understand what's in front of us.
Nothing to lose, but a lot to lose.
You know, everything at the same time, but, you know, the pressure is really on them.
You know, they went out there and they dominated us last game,
and, you know, we did not take care of it's the way we should have.
So it's only up from here as far as how we go about it, you know,
terrible on third down.
It just wasn't a good show.
And so, you know, we kind of bottled that up.
and that feeling, and, you know, we're ready to convert that into, you know, something great.
I don't think I agree that the pressure's just on the 49ers.
Now, the Packers are big underdogs.
There's seven and a half point underdogs, according to Fox Bet.
But you really can't be, like, an actual underdog with Aaron Rogers as your quarterback.
Now, the Titans Chiefs game, I feel differently about.
Even though Tennessee terrifies me, the pressure is on the Chiefs in that game.
But this game, I know most people are assuming,
you're assuming that the 49ers win big.
I just don't look at the Packers as an underdog team.
But maybe that's because I've been high on the Packers all year,
so I don't think that they're a bad team.
I just don't know.
It just doesn't have that same feel that the Titans have.
Yeah, I feel there's a little bit, you know, Houston last week went down in flames.
Houston had been out gained on the year.
And so you can win divisions doing that.
Right.
You start to get to your second playoff game.
And I, listen, out 10 times this year, the Packers were out gained.
They're one of those teams.
If you look at the numbers, you know, like Fox Bed or Vegas,
you start looking at their numbers, and they look like a 9-17.
But do you feel like the pressure is all on the 49ers?
I think pressure's always on the home favorite, a big home favorite.
So I'd say it's on the Niners.
But the Niners are really, they don't play tight.
They take big swings, big cuts.
Now, Kansas City, I do worry a little bit about the games close, late.
Kansas City's got the ball.
It's close.
And they get a little tight and they get out of them.
selves a little bit. I don't know. I just feel like if Kansas City loses, it's going to be more
dramatic than if the 49ers lose. Yes. I think that's fair. That's more what I'm saying.
Like if the Packers win, it wouldn't be that it's not going to have the same deal if the Titans
win. That's all I'm saying. So Mike McCarthy is keeping Kellyn Moore for a second year as the
Cowboys offensive coordinator. He also said Moore will continue to be the offensive play caller.
He wants to make sure the team can capitalize on what they established in 2019. This season,
Moore's offense average 431.5 yards per game, which was first in the league and 27.1 points
per game, which ranked six. I feel like Goulet is like rolling his eyes as I read this.
But, I mean, Dak was the second in the NFL in passing yards with a career high, almost
5,000 this year. We career high in touchdown passes under Kellyn Moore. But McCarthy called
the plays for most of his 13-year run with the Packers. I think I'm okay with it.
I mean, I don't love it.
I think I like.
But do you, can you really can't argue with the numbers?
Again, a lot of it's DAC, fourth quarter garbage.
I know.
There's some garbage time numbers, but I don't know.
It's like Green Bay's record is inflated for some breaks.
I think Dallas's offensive numbers are inflated for garbage time, fourth quarter stats.
So I'm very careful.
I just don't stare at records.
The stuff I look at with Dallas is give me their first half numbers against good teams.
Defensive coordinators, just shut them down.
But he's the first year offensive coordinator.
Like, what's the point of keeping them really if you're going to take away his play calling duties?
Finally, Kyrie Irving called out some of his teammates earlier this week saying the Nets need one or two more pieces to be a true contender.
Kendrick Perkins was not a fan of Kyrie's comments.
And he tweeted he's not a leader.
And I don't why everybody is surprised at this.
He showed that last year.
That's what I agree with.
I totally agree with that.
It's great player.
It's a great player.
I'm not disputing the player thing.
I don't think that it's,
it should be required of everyone to be a leader.
As long as you can,
yeah,
I mean,
yeah,
that's fair to say.
Like,
I don't,
to me,
this team all year,
I don't have any expectations of them,
because this is not the team that I'm supposed to be watching.
I'm supposed to be watching.
I'm supposed to be watching K.D.
and Kyrie,
and the second that Katie's shoe touches the court,
it's a different team.
And it's a whole different attitude and energy.
And Katie is the one who's the one who's,
going to be the leader and he's going to be the guy.
And we've already seen him do that because
Steph deferred to him. So we know what
he's capable of doing. I think at this point, we don't
have to question that with Katie.
To me, like saying Kyrie's not a leader, like he,
no, he needs admitted that he didn't do a good job
with the Celtics, but that's also not him.
No, it's not his personality. He's a
talent. He's not a leader.
I mean, that's like,
some people are just not, that's not who they are.
You can build a film around Tom Hanks. There's a lot
of Tom Hanks. There's a lot of Tom
actors in Hollywood. I wouldn't
build a film around, but I put him in the film.
I'd put Kyrie on my team, but I'm not building around Kyrie.
And that's the difference.
He's not emotionally disciplined.
He's not built to be Michael, Kobe, Steph, but he's talented.
So you put him on the roster and it can get you 22 on nights you need it.
Kyrie is an incredible talent.
And I think he probably gets more pushback than he needs to.
But again, like, I don't think the Celtics is a good comparison.
What happened to the Celtics is a good comparison to this team because this isn't the whole team.
Like, Katie is not out there.
When he's out there, it's going to be a different situation.
Good stuff. Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross.

It wouldn't be a huge surprise.

By the way, the father of Joe Burrell, the LSU quarterback, said he'd be happy to be drafted
by the Cincinnati Bengals.
It's funny as we move out of the NFL season in about three weeks.
We'll start talking about the draft and stuff.
is that, listen, there's about eight or nine bad organizations in the NFL.
You know, about a third of the league, maybe just slightly less,
maybe a third of the league is just not very good and hasn't been good for years.
Detroit, Cincinnati, Miami, Washington, Jets, Jacksonville, Tampa, Cleveland.
Cincinnati's one of those teams.
And it's hard to be bad in the NFL.
It is hard to be bad because of the obvious reason.
You get better draft picks.
I mean, Jacksonville at one point had a top five pick, like top 10 pick, 10 of 11 years.
you also get easier schedules.
So if you are bad in the NFL,
there's always a reason why inside the organization,
and it's almost always the owner.
Well, that's the problem in Cincinnati.
I mean, Mike Brown's in his mid-80s.
He's the owner, the GM, the vice president.
He won't let anybody have decisions.
This is an organization that hasn't won a playoff game in 30 years.
This is an organization that hasn't drafted a pro bowler in six to seven years.
Tyler Eifford was the last one, the Notre Dame tied.
man, it's a bad organization.
So, and then, I mean, T.J. Hushmanzada used to play for the Bengals.
Remember what he said on this show?
He went from the Bengals to the Ravens.
Remember that?
We didn't have bottled water or Gatorade, and it was crazy because when we first got it,
guys would be taking backpacks full of Gatorade home.
If you're not giving players water and Gatorade, what were they giving you?
Tea?
No, you could get water.
You would just go to the fountain.
The year before I got there, Willie Anderson was telling me.
me, they didn't even have jockstraps.
They would buy, get a bunch of used jockstrat,
throw them in the middle of the locker room and say, here you go.
That's not that long ago.
Like, that's what Cincinnati is.
They haven't won a playoff game in 30 years.
So, you know, this is an organization that is cheap,
and they don't go after free agents,
and they don't manipulate the draft.
They just kind of, here's our picks, here's what we do.
So Joe Burroughs going into that,
and he's going to face the Steelers Front Seven defensively,
which is maybe the most talented outside of the 49ers,
young defensive front in the league, Pittsburgh's.
He's going to face Baltimore's defense, which just got better and better.
And by the way, when Miles Garrett comes back, the strength of the Cleveland Browns is not wide receiver.
It's actually their defensive front.
So I think Joe Burrow, I think it's going to be a rough sledding.
Logan Ryan's a two-time Super Bowl champ, seventh NFL season, four with the Patriots,
third with the Titans, where he is creating fumbles, forcing turnovers, and finds himself once again in a huge game.
And Logan Ryan is joining us via the Coward Global Satellite Network.
All right, here we go.
It feels like to me, Logan, the postseason is built for you in Tennessee.
The referees can swallow flags.
They allow more physicality.
It kind of feels like the NBA, same thing.
Refes swallow the whistles and let LeBron and the men beat the boys in the playoffs.
Does it feel like right now is your time and the sport now is built kind of for you this weekend?
Yeah, I think so.
We're built for it.
We feel like we have a physical team, physical by nature.
We believe in running the ball, stopping them run.
And, you know, the weather gets colder.
And Derek Henry comes alive and, you know, defense's win championships.
And that's what we've pride ourselves on here.
So I do feel like we're built for this run.
Mike Vrable, what's the secret sauce?
When did you know this dude who was just playing a few years ago can coach?
What was it?
What is it with him?
I knew.
I mean, I think I was on last year with you.
And I knew he was a great coach back then.
He's just a former player, a champion, detailed, explains things how realistically you want
them done.
I think the hardest thing for professional players to have a coach who's never done it before.
It's not that you can't listen to him, but they ask you do things.
He was like, well, how realistic is that in the setting?
I think he's very realistic in his expectations.
And kind of that do-your-job mentality here where he informs every player what he expects
him to do and allow them to go out there and perform to the best of their ability.
By the way, nobody on this roster, Logan, has been in more big games than you.
Teams can get tight.
I mean, I've talked to a lot of pros, and they're like, man, you get to these conference championships,
and it feels different driving to the stadium.
How do you ensure this locker room is loose and not tight Sunday?
You know, we're not supposed to be here.
You know, the underdog is house money.
We're 7.7.5 point underdog.
Last week, we were 10.
The week before, who knows, probably 10.
So, I mean, we've been having a win and get in since week 16, had a win and get in.
So we've been in the playoffs for a good month now.
We've been on the road for a good month now.
We've been picked against.
I remember when we beat New England in New England, every fan said, well, good game, but you're going to get rolled by Baltimore.
That would beat Baltimore.
Well, another good game, but you're going to get rolled by Kansas City.
So I'm going to go out there and, you know, get rolled over.
So we'll see how it goes.
Are you worried a little bit?
I mean, Logan, fourth straight, roadie, fatigue, Derek Henry, 30 carries.
Are you a little concerned with that?
No, I mean, that's what it takes, you know.
That's what we're in.
That's what it takes.
You can call momentum.
We found our rhythm for four straight.
So we know how to pack our suits up, go on a plane, and, you know, playing hostile environments.
And we've done the back-to-back weeks, and we're going to run it to the wheels fall off.
We don't know when that may be.
It might be this Sunday.
It may be in two weeks.
Hopefully it's in two weeks at the Super Bowl.
But, you know, we're going to keep sticking to our formula.
When did you know during this season?
Okay, because you had a losing record.
And all of a sudden, you know, you face Kansas City.
Was there a moment an epiphany for you, Logan, where you're like, we're actually,
we have a chance to be really, really special, even though the record may not say that.
Yeah, I thought we were, uh, I honestly thought we were really.
special in camp. We had a good team last year. We had a win and get in last year. We didn't.
And I was hurt. We had Jarrell Casey hurt for that win and get in last year. And we got back
healthy. We busted our butt all offseason. And then we started year two and four. And then we were
two and four. We were coming on from a road trip. We kind of had one of those internal meetings.
How's this year going to go? They obviously made a quarterback change at the time. I think the
quarterbacks handled it well. And then we had a goal line stand to basically go to three and four.
We beat the chargers on a goal line stand. Yep, yeah. And we could have been two and five,
or we could have been three and four. So we went to three and four, and we've been kind of having
stands like that. We had a goal line stand in New England to help us win that game. So I really
remember being two and four having a goal line stand and winning a bunch of games since.
Do you feel like you ended the Patriots dynasty? It feels like that to me respectfully. It does
kind of feel like, you know what, they're a little old.
There's a lot of good AFC teams.
When you walked off that field, Logan, did you think I'm with the right team now?
I'm growing.
They're not.
You know, it's not about the team, man, what team I'm on or anything like that.
I just feel like I'm in a good place.
I feel like I'm able to show all my abilities.
And I don't know what's going on the page.
I do think there's going to be major changes there.
I do think that, I mean, eventually those guys, man, they had a lot of long runs.
They played a lot of extra games.
Yeah.
You know, and that's what it takes to be a champion.
You got to play these.
You play in a whole extra month of football,
and it's a physical sport.
So eventually, you know,
it seemed like they were fatiguing that game,
fatigue this year,
and eventually it caught up to them in a sense.
So, yeah, if you want to call me Luke Skywalker flying in there
and growing up the Death Star,
you know, everyone's being to Star Wars right now
with the Mandalorian and everything.
So I got no problem flying into the Death Star.
But now, they're all good.
They're all good friends of mine,
but, you know, you call what you see.
We'll see what happens this off season.
One minute left.
You ever faced a quarterback with an arm like Mahomes?
I mean, it might be him and Aaron Rogers are the only two I've seen with this arm,
the creative arm angles, the velocity on the ball, the ability to throw the ball in the cold weather, how he does.
So he's special.
I mean, we'd just beat Brady, we beat Lamar Jackson.
But I think this is the best offense in football.
I think it's our best test.
And, I mean, good thing is we played him once before this year, so we know what it's like,
and he's talented.
Well, Logan, you are four fumbles forced, multiple interceptions.
a big game player and a physical player that fits perfectly and a Rutgers guy.
You've got to be tough to play at Rutgers.
You don't got any no 77-degree games.
It's cold and snow and windy and Jersey.
Congrats to you.
You're a good dude and a great player, and we're happy for you, man.
Good luck Sunday.
Appreciate it, Colin.
Thank you.
Hey, go collar, baby, so we're good.
All right.
Logan Ryan, tremendous year.
Four fumbles, fours, tied for six in the NFL this year.
He's a classic titan.
He's a physical dude.
he's a smart dude.
There's a lot of New England here.
You know, you look at New England's dynasty and you think Brady.
But when Gronk got here, it re-birthed the second part of the dynasty.
New England had a dynasty for 10 and then didn't for several years.
And then the last seven or eight, gronk and run blocking and running game as Brady ages engineered it.
And that's a lot what the Titans are.
It's a running power team with a quarterback Tanna Hill, little reborn.
It's an interesting story.
and I do think they're going to make things somewhat uncomfortable for Kansas City,
but I like the Chief's overall talent.

Call on one of the questions for this week's Super 6 NFL playoffs contest is, which team will win?
And by how many points, who do you like in this game?
I think San Francisco's healthy, loaded, at home, D. Ford back, Kwan Alexander.
I like San Francisco by 10.
I think San Francisco and Kansas City are good.
San Francisco, how about George Kittle?
How much talent do we have in America?
Fifth round pick, George Kittle.
Speaking of talent, Darius Slayton goes to Auburn,
Norcross Georgia, walks into the NFL.
You end up having eight touchdowns, almost 800 yards.
I think it's tied for the most touchdowns for a rookie.
So everybody was talking about the Giants have to get receivers in the draft.
No, they don't because Darius Slayton arrived.
You had a great rookie year.
Now, part of it is, I think, you played in the SEC West, which is just a fist fight.
Do you think playing 10 of the last 11 years, the SEC West has had somebody either win or in the national championship game?
Do you think your college experience in the SEC West helped make the transition to the New York Giants in the NFL easier?
For sure.
I think, like you said, I mean, it's just, it's NFL athletes all over the place in that league.
And I definitely feel like my jump from the NFL, from college, the NFL was pretty smooth physically.
You know, you play against such fast, big physical players in the SEC, and you kind of see the same brand of guy in the NFL.
So I definitely think it helped.
Yeah, I mean, you're going against LSU.
You're going against Alabama.
Those guys are all NFL corners.
Yeah.
So it's very interesting as we talk about, and I love having you young guys on because you're coming into the league.
We introduce you to people.
And, you know, it's funny about, take the New York Giants.
So you get to the New York Giants.
Giants. I don't know anything about Daniel Jones. He looks like Eli. I watched him in college at Duke,
and I'm like, I don't know. Then I watched him against Tampa, and I'm like, okay, Joy came on.
We were like, okay, this guy can play. When did you know with Daniel Jones? Where was the practice,
the epiphany, the moment you're like, oh, he can spin it. This guy can play.
Our very first day, actually, our very first day of rookie camp, we did a one-on-one, and I had a go-ball,
and he just launched it.
And it was perfect in stride and I caught it.
You know, for me being the guy that likes to run deep routes,
you know, you drop it on me like that, you know, I'm sold.
You know, that's my guy.
But I definitely think he, especially in that Tampa game,
I think you saw, you know, who Daniel Jones is.
I mean, he played tough down the stretch.
He ran the ball some through it, something to get us to win.
And, you know, I expect great things from him.
Pat Shermer's a very good offensive coordinator,
didn't work as a head coach.
So the Giants elevate Joe Judge.
judge's work with Sabin.
He's worked with Belichick.
They both gave him huge plotts.
He's young.
How do you think it works?
He's not an offensive guy.
He's more of a special teams guy.
What is your gut feeling on this?
I think it works really well because he's a special teams guy, first time head coach.
So I think, you know, and I think some of the offensive coordinators we've interviewed,
defense coordinators have been more veteran guys.
So I think when you have a young first time coach like that, you bring in a veteran O.C.,
veteran DC, and then those three come together.
And I think you have a really good situation
because he's not leaning too hard either way.
You know, it is funny about this.
You guys played Darius Slayton joining us.
You played the Packers this year.
You had a very good game against Green Bay.
So we talked about it this year.
San Francisco's defense tends to be, you know,
it's Mike Tyson and it's prime.
It can just overwhelm you.
There are certain defenses in this league.
They can overwhelm you.
Green Bay's defense, good linebackers,
Preston and Zarius Smith.
it doesn't feel like it's an overwhelming, but it's opportunistic.
So when you played the Packers, what were the crevices and the angles you found?
Because you had success against them.
What works against them?
I think initially you definitely have to block those two guys, though.
You got to handle the Smith brothers, you know, with either running back chip or a tight-in chip, just something to slow them down.
And then I think after that, I mean, I think you can, they've got good receivers like Mayo Sanders, Debo, Samuel.
And I think they'll have a chance to have some good match.
matchups in the back end.
Yeah.
When you're playing on a team like you were the Giants this year,
and they're kind of struggling to find their way.
You know, in the NBA, it's a long season.
NFL, you got eight home games, eight roads.
You guys, Daniel Jones and you guys on the offense,
played very well in spots where the season was over.
At Auburn, that's not the case.
It Auburn, you, that Alabama game, it doesn't matter.
It's just staring at you.
The LSU game.
This was the first time, and you went to Norcross,
Georgia for a high school power.
And then you're at Auburn.
You're in big games.
For the first time in your life,
you were out of it.
Yeah. Substantially.
But yet, you played hard.
The team played hard.
Take people that are watching our show into
what was it like for you and what is it like to play
knowing we're not a playoff team.
Yeah.
I mean, obviously, it's not a good feeling, you know,
knowing that you're not playing with a chance to make the playoffs
because I think every year you're going to season competing for a
championship.
But I think at the end of the end of the game,
a day it speaks volumes to the kind of guys we have on our team very competitive um not the kind of guys
just go out there and you know just give you know halfway effort um you know and i think it starts
with our veteran players guys like marcus golden um even evan engram when he was healthy and then i think
the fact that we have we do have a lot of youth and for us you know as rookies you know we're you know
we're just still learning so you know all we know is you know is go hard so you know dan um you know
even towards the end of year he got hurt you know he was fighting to come back you know i think you know sometimes
Let me see you guys maybe get hurt or something.
You know, they might want to try to sit out or milk it or something.
But, I mean, he was fighting to get back as quick as he could.
And, you know, he did come back and play those last two weeks.
So it's good.
Darius Slayton, eight touchdowns, tied.
I'm looking at it here, tied for most among rookies.
So this will be kind of a wonky question.
I'm kind of a nerd.
I like recruiting.
I like all this stuff.
So you walk into the NFL.
And there are, you know, in the NBA, they call it, make getting, you don't need a screen.
You can get your own shot.
There's not that many NBA players.
Westbrook can, Hardin can.
They can get their own shot.
When you line up in the NFL, every corner you face was all SEC, all Big 12.
Was there a corner this year?
And again, nobody stopped you in college and nobody stopped you in high school.
Was there a corner this year?
You're like, he's good.
Like, he's as fast as me.
He's as good as me.
Did you face that a couple of times for the first time in your life?
Oh, for sure.
A couple times.
And not always just physically.
Like, I think guys, name doesn't come up a lot, like Kyle Fuller.
Well, for the Bears.
Yeah, he's really smart.
Virginia Tech.
Really smart.
He's not as physically gifted as some other guys, but it was a couple times where it was
like he was in my head.
And he knew where I was going before I was going.
And it was just crazy.
So obviously he watched film.
Yeah, a lot.
High school and college, not that you, Darius, wouldn't watch film.
But if you're a great athlete in high school in college,
you could be sloppy on film and get open.
Do you feel like now you're in a film room a lot?
Definitely way more.
Or definitely going to this next year, I know I've got to be in there more.
Because like I said, playing against guys,
and him and Prince Mukumarro on the same team.
And even Prince, you know, being a veteran guy,
we go up against older guys.
Patrick Peterson, I played as well.
They just do stuff or know stuff.
And you're like, how, like, you know,
all I did was line up like I always do.
And, you know, they just know certain things are coming.
So they definitely made me realize, you know, I've got to watch more film, especially on them individually.
By the way, you still watch SEC football.
SEC football is funny.
Once you plan it, you watch it forever.
It's like it's just part of your life.
It's so tribal down there.
Like you grow up in Georgia.
I mean, geez, but Norcross, Georgia, you're probably a three-hour car ride from half the schools in the SEC.
So Joe Burrow for, you saw Joe Burrell before we knew who Joe Burrow was, right?
Like now we all know it.
I wasn't talking about Joe Burrow last year.
I do worry about him going to a bad team.
Cincinnati's in a division with Pittsburgh and Baltimore.
Did you worry about that?
When you came out at Auburn, again, you're surrounded.
You're winning football games.
Yeah.
Were you kind of like, oh, my God, what if I go blank, blank, blank?
Yeah, a little bit because in college it's like when you're on a bad college team,
there's just no hope, you know, kind of thing.
Well, you also choose where you want to go.
Definitely.
Also that as well, for sure.
But kind of one thing I learn the NFL is like there's kind of no such thing as like a bad team.
You know, like you see down the stretch season, you see a team like the Dolphins that have the year they wanted to have, but they beat the Patriots.
So it's like everybody's got an NFL players.
Everybody's got a chance.
It's just in some cases you've got to figure it out to get the wins.
What's it like to play the Dallas Cowboys?
Do they talk a lot?
I mean, it's obviously the biggest brand in American sports is the Yankees and the Cowboys.
Did it feel different as a, you know, a 22-year-old kid?
I'm on national TV playing the Cowboys.
Did the game feel different?
Not so much.
You know, it was Monday Night Football,
which I think that was kind of a bigger thing for me,
was the fact that I watched Monday Night Football all my life.
So it was like, wow, there's Randy Moss on the sideline,
you know, commentating our game.
So it was just, it was crazy, but yeah, a little bit.
I mean, it wasn't too crazy, chippy out there,
but it was obviously a big game.
between the Giants and Cowboys.
Grow up in a fairly small town.
Auburn's a fairly rural area.
You head to New York.
You're in New York City.
Was there a moment early?
You're driving in and you're like, what is what?
I mean, it's, New York can overwhelm people.
Was there a moment for you early?
It was like, this is like nothing I've ever been in.
Yeah, not too much.
Probably the first time hit Times Square was the first time I was like, wow, like this is crazy.
Because it looks just like the movies.
You know, a lot of places you go, you know, the movies kind of,
you know, embellish or it's not as good, but Times Square is legit, like, screens everywhere.
So that was probably the only thing up there that I was really like, wow, I'm really in New York.
But you don't hand the Giants don't hang out in New York City much.
Your training facility, you're over in Jersey, aren't you?
Yeah, in Jersey 90% of the time.
Yeah.
Well, it's great meeting you, Darius Slate and Giants wide receiver.
So your season's over.
What do you do for the next month?
Because you go to, when's your OTA?
I believe it's in April.
Okay, so there you go.
What do you do for the next month?
Off your rookie year.
you're healthy. You had a great year.
All-Rookie team. What do you do for the next four or five weeks?
Eventually, pretty soon here, I'm going to get back to training,
probably go somewhere warm like South Florida,
and just get back to training and try to better myself
and build on this first year.
Do you ever watch film of veteran receivers and steal anything?
I mean, Larry Fitzgerald is going to plan a 17th year.
Now, you guys are different receiver.
But you ever watch film and be like, oh, I got to take that move?
Oh, for sure.
But I think you kind of, as you watch,
certain guys like there's certain guys like i just can't like de jondry hopkins i can't copy what he does
you know he just plays bully ball and snatches the ball like i'm a fast guy you know i'm more
stephan digsish kind of bill so you watch i watch every or everybody as much as i can but there's
some guys like mike evans 6 5 i'm not 6 5 yeah so you know there's some things you can't take from
certain guys but for sure like um guys that are similar bill to you you can definitely take things
you got a little de sean jackson yeah that's a guy i watch a lot actually okay dischawn jackson
Hey, it's great meeting you.
You're welcome back anytime.
Is Adidas your sponsor?
Yes, they are.
There you go.
Good company.
Good stuff for you.
First NFL season eight receiving touchdowns.
Joe Judge is his new coach.
Love to see you again.
Dad goes to all the games.
Good family.
I love stories like yours, man.
Yes, sir.
Congrats.
Joy with the news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Richard Sherman is getting ready to play
in his third NFC championship game
in his second against the Packers.
He's gone against Aaron Rogers a lot in his career.
Yes, he has.
And had success, I think.
And he says it's going to be very tough on him on Sunday.
He throws an incredible football.
You know, he has a quick release.
He's very accurate.
He throws a great deep ball.
He's mobile.
He's great at creating.
He's great a diagnosis of defense.
He has all the tools that you look for.
You lead quarterback.
He's done it for a number of years.
I'd say it's been been intense.
You know, it's been, it's been very,
competitive, I guess, for lack of better words.
We play quite a few times, and the games are always good.
It's really any blowouts one way or the other.
But it's always a chess match with him, and you've got to pick your spots carefully.
By the way, he really had a great year.
I thought Richard Sherman was done.
I thought he was totally done when he started doing his own contract.
I don't remember what I said about the contract, but I'm like, I kind of felt like,
didn't he have an ACL? He's a corner?
I'm like, he bet on himself?
an Achilles.
I thought he was done.
He's not.
He's never lost an NFC championship game either.
He went two with Seattle and he's looking to make it three and no on Sunday.
He bet on himself.
I mean, I think now more than ever we have kind of gotten into a space where we can doubt how long people can play and what people can come back from more because it's just a different world now.
But he's, I mean, Richard Sherman is one of the most unique individuals in all of sports.
It's just incredibly smart and outspoken.
Too many people in our business, you know, the media business, are afraid to just say I'm wrong.
I was wrong on Richard Sherman.
I thought he got hurt in Seattle.
I thought he negotiated a contract.
I'm like, dude, these agents are good.
And I didn't think, you know, I thought he's the kind of guy.
You can't put him on an island anymore.
Got a big pick last weekend.
KG. Long, you know, it's just like he said, Darius just said.
He goes, Will Fuller's been in the league.
He knew what I was doing.
And that's what it is.
That's what it comes down to.
He's been in this situation many times.
Richard Sherman, he can smell what you're doing.
He knows exactly what.
And he's very, he's a very tactical player.
Yeah.
And that is.
Stanford guy.
So,
so invaluable.
Yeah.
So Derek Henry has been bullying defenses all season and, of course,
these playoffs.
And he had at least 30 carries in each playoff game so far,
averaging 32 carries per game, which is crazy.
And he's hoping to get the same workload on Sunday against the
Chiefs.
I think I get in the rhythm, the more curious I get, and get a better feel for the
game as the game goes on.
I think to stay focused.
I'll take one game at a time, you know, as we're preparing and don't get too far ahead
of myself.
Yeah, I was talking to Xavier Woods about playing against Derek Henry, and I was like,
what's it like to tackle him?
It's just like, it's not fun.
Like, there's certain guys that seek contact, which obviously Derek Henry does, just
runs right through you.
You have to have an angle.
You don't want him straight on.
You have to get an angle and cut him.
And he's like, he slows your feet down because you can't.
Yeah, he's, he is such a, he's so powerful, but he's so hard to tackle because it's like one, one, one, one.
If you're too fast, he's, he's right by you.
Like, he's just one move and he's gone.
It's, it's going to be very interesting how the chiefs handle him because their, their defense, their rush defense is not ranked very highly.
It's not, it's, they've been giving up a lot.
God.
They're seventh worst in the league.
and they've been giving up 128 rushing yards per game.
I bet you the San Francisco Green Bay game,
if it's close, is going to break a record.
If it's close, if it's a blowout, it won't.
But if it's close, I think San Francisco Green Bay is going to set some sort of Fox
playoff record.
I really do.
If we get Mahomes and the 49ers, we are going to get,
it's going to be the highest watch most watch Super Bowl of all time.
Honestly, I think any matchup we get at this point is going to be a great game.
because even though the Titans are obviously huge underdogs,
they're just kind of like old school football fun to watch
and going up against a team like the 49ers, the Titans,
like that would be really interesting.
So Patrick Holmes is hoping to earn a spot in his first Super Bowl on Sunday.
And if the Chiefs end up winning this year,
he said he will be the happiest for his coach, Andy Reid.
It'd be amazing, obviously.
I mean, the work and that he's put in every single day,
every single where he's been at.
I mean, he's had success.
And so obviously we want to get him that Super Bowl,
but we understand it's a process.
We understand that first off,
we've got to come in and have a great practice today
and then play great this weekend
and then try to give ourselves a chance to be in that game
and get a chance to get him that trophy.
Reed is the seventh winningest coach
with 207 regular season wins.
He's the winningest head coach in NFL history
without a championship.
And he has got under seven, eight years.
So he'll end up being top three most winning his coaches of all.
He'll get a Super Bowl, it's just a matter of when.
Yeah, I mean, I don't, there's kind of this narrative on him that it's like he can't get to,
obviously he hasn't won a championship, like he can't get that game and he has some bad losses.
But listen, you coach long enough, you're going to have bad losses.
Well, he also is, he's never had an A quarterback.
And, you know, it's like Belichick got fired in Cleveland.
Pete Carroll got fired twice.
When did Pete become a legend?
I got Russell.
It kind of matters.
I know Nick Wright.
We had him on the show earlier this week, and he said, like,
feels like it kind of has to happen this year.
I don't really agree with that.
Like, this is going to be a good team for a long time.
Obviously, you don't want to waste opportunities.
Well, also, you got him on the cheap now.
Right. Yeah, you got him on.
Yeah, that is the issue.
Like, you have Patrick Mahomes not on his $35 million contract.
Right.
So you're going to have to consider that.
But I do like, though, that everybody is not jumping ahead to the Super Bowl.
Even how Patrick answered it.
Like, yeah, we can talk about that, but we got to beat the Titans first.
Yeah.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lye News.
By the way, we have four quarterbacks left.
We have Aaron Rogers.
We have Jimmy Garoppolo.
We have Ryan Tannhill and Patrick Mahomes.
We always do this thing.
We'll do it about three times a year.
We call it the blind resume.
And I think the assumption is, you know, where these guys fall.
If you ask people like, okay, Mahomes and Aaron are up here.
So we did the blind resume.
Put the blind resume up on the screen.
and this is passerating.
One guys at 117, 105, 105, 102, 995, completion percentage.
All right.
Passing yards per attempt and passing touchdowns per game.
So my guess is that Mahomes is number one.
Is that number one?
Because the assumption here is, oh, it's right.
I guess that it was Rogers, actually.
Okay, who's the second one?
Who's the second best quarterback in those four?
Okay, Patrick Mahomes.
His numbers are nothing to, you know, laugh at.
Well, number three has got to be Aaron Rogers.
Aaron Rogers has the lowest passer rating,
lowest completion percentage,
lowest passing yards per attempt,
and fewest passing touchdowns a game.
How about that?
Hmm.
And I think I've said this,
some of it with Aaron,
he's gotten too safe.
But I also think their offense doesn't go through him this year.
It goes through Aaron Jones.
It doesn't go through Garoppolo.
It doesn't go through Tannale.
Yeah, that's fair.
That's fair.
I can't argue with the Tannale point.
Isn't that interesting?
Yeah.
It's not a knock on him.
It's just this is what I said to start the show today.
Aaron better take some big swings here.
I think Aaron over the last four to five years has gotten very safe.
Now, some of it physically he should.
but leading the NFL in throwaways,
dirting it, only throwing to Devante Adams.
You're not going into Santa Clara and beating the Niners.
Minnesota was so tight.
Like Kirk Cousins, checkdown.
Like, dude, he threw one deep ball and it was completed.
Aaron's got to throw that puppy up.
He's got to lay it out this weekend.
So the blind resume, it's Tanna Hill, Mahomes, Garapolo, and Aaron Rogers.
Coming up next tomorrow's headlines today with the over.
was wildly entertaining Rob Parker.
That is coming up.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio, FS1, and the IHard Radio app.

So Jason McIntyre's out, but that's okay.
I got Rob Parker, Professor Rob Parker, who teaches
classes at USC. By the way, people are always banging on kids and millennials and all that
stuff. You teach kids every week. Do you have a problem? What do you see when you see young
Americans? I see hardworking, ambitious, smart, wanting to make something of themselves.
And, Colin, of all the stuff that I've experienced at USC, it's a thing called auditing where kids
come into your class. I've had numerous kids who are not registered, will not get any credit for my
class. They come in, they do the work, they do the homework assignments, mind-boggling.
Did you ever do that? I've never been audited, nor did I ever audit a class.
Boy, you didn't do that when you were in college, did you?
No, but I had two internships, so that counts, I guess. I guess the point is you're seeing young
everybody's always banging on young Americans. I'm like, and I'm a millennial.
They're way smarter than I was. My kids are so much smarter than I was.
Well, there's just more access to information now than ever before. We didn't know.
We really didn't know.
All right, here we go.
Tomorrow's headlines today.
Let's start the headline in San Francisco after the championship.
All right.
The headline in San Francisco will be Garapolo.
You've heard of Sweet Lo?
He's going to throw the Packers at least three interceptions.
And the Packers will win this game and people will go, maybe he ain't ready.
So you are not a Jimmy Garoppolo fan, nor have you been this year.
No.
I mean, they got a lot of stuff that makes it easier for him.
Yeah, they have a tremendous defense and running game.
And running game, but he does give up the football.
And if you don't, you know, you got to catch it now.
He'll throw it to you.
I think there's a chance the Packers will do that.
By the way, George Kittle, we have to note this.
George Kittle has mispractices.
Gullet.
George Kittle practiced yesterday.
Okay, so he did.
Okay, George Kittl is going to play.
All right, what will the headline be at the Green Bay newspaper,
the Post Gazette after the championship.
The headline in Green Bay will be,
pack your bags to the Super Bowl.
The pack is back, baby.
And you know what?
I know everybody says,
Aaron Rogers, I just saw your stat,
you know, where he's the fourth best
out of all the four quarterbacks left.
But if you watched that game last week
and what he was able to do,
you know, he doesn't have to put up 400 yards.
The difference between the Packers in the past and now
in Aaron Rogers seven playoff losses, his team defense gave up 37 points or more four times.
Aaron doesn't have the same pressure that he has to put up 45 or 35 points in order to win.
They have a defense.
I'm not saying it's the best defense, but they have a defense.
They get takeaways.
And if Aaron Jones can run the ball, Aaron Rogers just has to make a number of throws, a couple of throws.
I think that they can win this game.
All right. Tomorrow's headlines today, what will the headline be in the Tennessean, the Tennessee newspaper?
There we go. The headline in Tennessee will be Titanic Sinks.
You know, I mean, it's been a nice run.
Fourth straight road game. Yeah, it's a lot. And, you know, a couple teams have wound up winning.
You know, we saw the Giants run through. I think when the Packers won in 2010.
Yeah, the Giants had to go to Tampa to Green Bay.
I think eventually they went to Glendale for the Super Bowl,
but they went on the road and won.
And so did the Packers in 2010.
So it is doable.
It's really hard.
I just think I really want to pick them.
I really, really do.
But I do not believe that both teams will be upset at home,
even though, you know,
Mahomes and the Chiefs don't play that as far as,
I mean, the organization, they've lost seven of their last nine home playoff games.
Isn't that remarkable?
And Andy Reid,
I keep telling you, Andy Weed, has lost a lot of big games,
and he can't seem to win the big one,
but I still, I'm going to give it to the Chiefs.
All right, I don't know what the newspaper is called in Kansas City.
The Kansas City Star.
Kansas City Star.
All right, here we go.
What will the headline be in the Kansas City Star after the AFC Championship?
The headline in Kansas City will be,
Take my homes on the road to a place where we belong.
You know what? People can bang on Andy Reid, but you've got to be fair with Andy Reid.
He has lost a lot of playoff games to Kurt Warner, Breeze, Brady, and he's had Donovan McNabb and he's had Jeff Garcia.
He's generally had a quarterback deficit in most of his playoff losses.
Okay, but during the regular season, he's won a lot of games.
I'm only saying at some point, the only thing that has remained.
consistent as Andy Reid where a lot of pieces have changed.
And if you want to give him credit for being this offensive guru
and all this other success he's had,
you've got to give him blame when he doesn't win the big game.
Remember, he's this offensive guru that was shut out in the first half
last year at home against the Patriots.
Yes.
Right?
Clearly, the Chiefs were better than the Patriots going into that game.
And he fell behind 24-0 last weekend.
That's what I mean.
So I'm going to give them a home in them.
I don't think they're going to score 50s.
points or whatever, but I'm going to pick the Chiefs.
For the record, Kansas City against Green Bay and the Super Bowl, we get a massive number.
I don't think it'll happen.
But again, for Fox, you give us Kansas City, Aaron Rogers, or Kansas City, Sanford?
You can't lose with that.
So in your scenario, Kansas City plays Green Bay.
Who would you like?
I got Green Bay.
I picked Green Bay before the year started.
To win the Super Bowl?
To win the Super Bowl.
They were my pick, so that's why I'm sticking with them.
I didn't realize that Aaron Rogers would have to take this different.
route, you know, you got a new
offense, you know, you got a new head coach.
Everybody criticized him for
improvising too much and going off
script, and they did it a different
way. The number that I love the most this
year about the Packers, when
Aaron Rogers didn't throw a
touchdown, the Packers
were 3 and 0. Prior to
this season, when he didn't throw a touchdown, they were
4 and 10. That's interesting.
That tells you this is
the most balanced team to me,
not the greatest, the most balanced, but
between defense, offense, and Aaron Rogers just has to make.
He doesn't have to be the Aaron Rogers of five years ago trying to score 42 points.
But if he does what his job, which we saw last week that he can do, I think they have a chance.
By the way, you tend to be, you say this a lot.
Guys don't win the big game.
I'm surprised you're such an Aaron Rogers guy because he's had in 13 years.
Now, some of those he sat.
He's only had one great playoff run.
I'm surprised you're such a big Rogers guy.
Because when you look at his overall numbers,
his overall numbers,
four and a half touchdowns to one pick,
which is the best all time in the NFL.
His quarterback rating is the best of any quarterback who's ever played.
And when I just gave you some of those numbers,
you remember,
they were going to the Super Bowl against, right,
if they beat Seattle,
and the tight end flubs the onside kick.
Yeah.
You can't blame that on.
People, oh, he's only been to one Super Bowl.
That was a Super Bowl.
If they wrapped that ball up, that onside kick,
they're going to the Super Bowl.
And then there were other games where the defense gave up 45 points.
I don't know what quarterback.
Tom Brady, in his 20 years, their defense is only giving up 40 or more points one time.
And Aaron Rogers had almost four in his seven losses, 37 or more, and four of those seven losses.
So the movie poster for the Aaron Rogers Mahomes Super Bowl will be enemy of the state farm.
Now, very nice.
It's pretty clever.
It's a, you know, my tape.
State Farm would love it.
Oh, of course they would.
Yeah, that would be good for them.
There's no question about that.
So, USC professor, Rob Parker, you know, that show with you and Chris Broussard is just crazy.
It is a fun show.
It's a lot of a couple seven to 10 p.m. Eastern.
It's the one I listen to because when I go home, I work out, I do my stuff.
I drive around at 4 in the afternoon, and it's you and Chris Broussard.
By the way, you've done radio before.
Radio is so much fun when you get the right partner.
Absolutely.
And you know it's hard.
to have the chemistry with people.
You can put a lot of people together and it just doesn't click.
Chris and I have known each other for 25 years,
but we never worked together.
But we've always known each other.
I met them in 1992 at a convention in Detroit.
How about that?
I don't believe it we wound up working together.
All right.
