Joy Taylor is joining me. We've got NFL football. I can do an entire show on NFL football.
That makes me very happy, Joy, as somebody whose brother's a Hall of Fame football player
in Canton, Ohio. You're very happy today.
It's a very exciting day, Colin. Good morning. Good morning. It's great to have everybody in today. We are loaded. Jay Glazer, Brady Quinn, Rob Parker, Eric Dickerson. I want to start with this, though, standards. Standards. Being a number one pick is different. You get paid a lot more. The expectations are more. There's 120 Division I football programs. 120. Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma, Oklahoma,
Miami, Georgia, USC, Stanford, football players.
And you're the number one pick.
I want my number one pick to be as gifted as Peyton Manning and John Elway.
And if he's not that good, I want him to be as big and strong as fast as Cam.
Or I want him to be, have an arm like Matt Stafford.
I want to watch him like Jared Goff.
That's what my number one should be.
If he can't be everything like John Elway who could run and throw him.
You got to give me something that's a wow.
What would Baker Mayfield was a wow last night?
I've never said he's not an NFL quarterback.
I've never said he's a bust.
Where's the wow?
Okay.
Eleven for 20.
Congratulations.
My standard for the number one pick in the NFL draft is,
Hey, Colin, against guys who will work at supermarkets next week.
He made a really nice throw in the back of the end zone.
Folks, my problem isn't Baker-Macon.
Mayfield playing in the NFL.
My problem is the Cleveland Browns passed on Sam Darnold and Bradley Chubb, the two best players in the league,
an offensive star, a defensive star, and drafted Baker Mayfield in a tiny corner talented
but tiny at Ohio State.
Hold your team to higher standards.
Don't confuse standards with arrogance.
They're standards.
I've got a standard for this show.
The Patriots have a Stanford for guys they pay.
New England Patriots.
They've got standards.
Don't memorize the playbook quickly.
They let you go to the Titans.
Well, Colin, what about that throw in the back of the end zone?
For a number one quarterback pick, that is not an exceptional throw.
It's called Tuesday.
It's called Sunday.
It's a throw.
Okay, there's three things that jumped out to me with Baker Mayfield.
He looks small.
I don't want my number one quarterback to look.
look small. I don't want my number one pick in the draft at any position to look small.
Number two, he moved really well against second and third team defenders.
Those guys, Von Miller, Terrell Suggs, that containment is going to be way better.
That's a nice first down run like there. That's that nice.
And number three, he had a three and out when he faced the Giants first team defense.
Those are my three takeaways. He looks small. I don't want my number one.
one pick to look small regardless of position.
He moved well against the second team.
Containment will be way better in the regular season against starters.
And number three, he had a three and out against the Giants' first team defense.
By the way, you want to know the really good play by Cleveland?
It was Tyrod Taylor, five for five against first team defense, had a pre-snap read.
That was an NFL throw.
Came to the line, pre-snap adjustment, makes a throw.
There you go.
Tyron Taylor, that's an NFL play.
But you've got to have higher standard.
Ask yourself this.
A few years ago, back in like six, seven years ago,
Tristan Thompson was in a draft.
In that draft that Tristan Thompson was in, Clay Thompson was in,
Campbell Walker was in, Jimmy Butler was in,
Kyrie Irving was in, Kauai Leonard was in.
If Tristan Thompson would have gone number one,
would you be saying as a Cavs fan,
Well, he's become a pretty good starter.
I mean, he had nine rebounds last night.
No, you'd say, Kyrie Irving was available.
Co-I. Leonard was available.
Now, thankfully, that year, the Cavs got Kyrie.
But if Tristan Thompson, who is not a number one pick, he's an NBA player,
there have been nights he's a good NBA player,
and there have been series that he's completely over his skis.
But Cleveland went 4 and 0 last year in the preseason.
Johnny Mansell had a really good preseason game.
Deshaun Kaiser was 11 for 18 in his first preseason game.
Come on, man.
What's your standard?
Cleveland went 4 and 0 in the preseason.
The next 16 weeks, they went 0 for the season.
What's your standard?
He's a number one pick.
I want you to be as good as Elway or Peyton Manning.
And if you can't, I want you as big and strong as Cam.
And I criticize Cam.
You watch Cam Newton, size, body running.
There are moments with Cam, he is everything, everything you want in a number one pick.
Now, I don't like his inconsistency.
Cam's all over the map, and I think he has to grow up.
And I'm not sure if I'm ever going to get grown up, Cam.
I saw something yesterday I don't love.
But you watch Cam and you're like, oh, hell, yeah, that's a number one pick.
Matt Stafford drives me crazy.
I watch Matt Stafford make throws, and I'm like, oh, yeah, that's a number one quarterback pick.
I'm not saying you have to be the best quarterback in the league, but Matt Stafford makes wow throws.
Cam makes wow throws.
There's no wow there.
That's stuff.
Best throw in the night was by Tyrod Taylor.
That's just stuff.
Gotta have higher standards.
Colin.
Colin.
He looked to Sean Kaiser last year pre-season week one, 11 for 18, touchdown, 11-14 passer rating.
Was I jumping for joy with that one?
Was I?
So why should I?
this one. This one's a number one pick in the draft. My standards and expectations are even
higher. Let me shift to this. Andrew Luck looked really good.
Yum. He looked like he always looks when he's healthy. Really, really good.
Last night, 12 play drive, 9 play drive. You do realize Andrew Luck is hoping to be
Aerosmith. Aerosmith did this. Aerosmith came out and you're like, wow, in the 70s. That is
unbelievable talent.
That is all-time stuff.
And then Aerosmith got into drugs and had problems and had bad album and they were a mess.
And you're like, oh.
And then Aerosmith came back, cleaned up, got healthy.
Somebody else wrote some songs, run DMC.
And you're like, oh, hell yeah.
Aerosmith is good.
Yeah.
Never forget how good Aerosmith was once they were healthy.
That's Andrew Luck.
Andrew Luck has already had two careers.
Let's make sure we delineate between the two.
His first career was three consecutive 11-5 seasons,
three consecutive playoff appearances,
the AFC championship game,
Pro Bowl every year at 86 touchdown passes,
that led the NFL with 40 in 2014.
That was his first career.
His second career was a lacerated kidney,
major shoulder injury,
and getting the living you know-what kicked out of him,
because his general manager left him with no players.
He is hoping to do an aerosmith.
Remember me when I was healthy?
This is now embarking on his third career.
He came into the league and was a monster
with the worst offensive line in the league
and arguably the least talented running backs.
And he was 11 and 5, 11 and 5, 11 and 5,
three playoffs, 2014, led the NFL with 40 touchdowns.
AFC championship game.
Tom Brady could not have taken that offensive line to the AFC championship game.
Could not have.
Joe Montana couldn't do it.
Peyton Manning couldn't do it.
11 and 5, 11 and 5, 11 and 5.
He was Aerosmith in the 70s.
Wow.
Oh, my God.
All-time stuff.
And then Aero Smith got into some bad stuff.
Didn't have good health and disappeared.
and Andrew Luck for the last couple of years has disappeared.
Not his own doing.
I mean, he can take some of the blame.
Held on to the ball too long, tried to extend plays, ran around too much.
He could take some of the blame, that's fair.
I mean, Arrow Smith deserves some of the blame, right?
But Arrow Smith bounced back and were as great as they'd ever been when they bounced back.
We are looking at the recovery stage for Andrew Luck.
and do not forget how absolutely awesome he was.
He was on his way to being all-time stuff.
Hopefully, like Harold Smith, he can do it again.
It is great to have you, and we have so many things to discuss on a daylight today.
I want to talk about the Saquan Barkley.
I want to talk about Patrick Mahomes.
I want to talk about the moment with Cam Newton.
I want to talk about the single stupidest thing in American sports in any league.
I continue to see it and it drives me absolutely crazy.
All that right around the corner on a Friday.
We are packed.
Don't go anywhere in Los Angeles.
It's the herd.
Hi, it's the herd.
I talk about Simply Safe home security a lot on my show.
It is a great security system one I use.
Got exciting news.
SimpliSafe has now valued at $1 billion.
We've known these guys for a long time.
They were just five guys working together.
The founder only started the company because,
he wanted to help his friends who were burglarized.
Now it's a billion-dollar company.
They protect over two million people.
Here's what makes them great.
Their comprehensive protection for your home with around-the-clock professional monitoring and police dispatch.
So you get protection against intruders, fires, leaks, and burst pipes.
The system is so easy to use, incredibly intuitive and takes just minutes to set up with simply safe, no contracts, no hidden fees.
24-7 monitoring, only 1499 a month.
That is it. Order now, real easy. My listeners get free shipping and free returns. Visit simplysafe.com slash heard. That's simplysafe.com slash heard. Protect your home and assets today. Simplysafe.com slash heard.
Two huge national league games are coming to FS1 tomorrow. First Anthony Rizzo and the first place Cubs host Bryce Harper and the Nationals.
Then the two wildcard leaders face off when the Brewers battle the Atlanta Braves. It all starts at three Eastern on FS1 or stream it live on the Fox Sports app.
Nats are headcases. There's no other way to get around it. Baseball's biggest head case is the Washington Nationals.
How you can have all that talent for years and do nothing is beyond me. They're like the Red Sox before they won with Manny and Schilling. You're like, you got too much talent, not to win games.
Good to have you back. So I was always very critical of the New York Giants passing on Sam Darnold at number two, who I believe is going to play in the NFL for 15 years.
And I didn't think Saquan Barkley, although very gifted, a running back is not in a draft filled with.
great running backs.
You've got a draft a running back that can give you 25 carries, can give you size, power
speed, can give you everything.
And I believe Sequin Barclay is lightning, but he needs thunder.
Todd Gurley's both.
Zechial Elliott's both.
Adrian Peterson's both.
If you take a running back at number two in a draft class with eight legitimate running
backs, you can't just give me thunder and you can't just give me lightning.
Sequin Barclay had five carries.
This is the one that everybody loved, and it is Seekwan Barkley to a.
It is all sorts of lightning.
He is wiggling here and wiggling there and oh my guy, he's fast.
That's lightning.
Alvin Kamara's lightning.
Mark Ingram provides the thunder.
Again, you got to pay a running back when you draft him number two, a lot of money.
The rest of his carries trying to get outside.
He wants to get in space.
A lot of sizzle, flashy runs.
Two or three times a game, maybe four, he's going to give you a wow.
But he's lightning, and lightning doesn't last very long.
If I'm going to go number two with a draft pick and I got a franchise quarterback
and my quarterback's 37 and getting old, you've got to give me an Adrian Peterson.
You've got to give me a Todd Gurley.
You've got to give me an Ezekiel Elliott.
That is lightning and thunder.
Never forget this.
In Big Ten games last year, Sequin Barclay, in the nine Big Ten games,
rush for over 100 yards three times.
In the Big Ten.
Ezekiel Elliott's last year at Ohio State ran for over 100 yards in all but one game.
To me, Sequin Barkley needs a compliment.
But here's the thing.
The New York Giants have four Super Bowls,
but of all the great teams in the NFL,
they've never had any sizzle.
Mark Bavarro, Phil McConkey.
The number two running back in the history of the New York Giants is Rodney Hampton, who averaged less than four yards of carry.
Look at their all-time running backs.
Rodney Hampton, Joe Morris, Brandon Jacobs, Alex Webster.
These are 3.7 yards of carry guys.
So, Sequin Barkley, he's water in the desert.
He is water in the desert.
You can see it.
But as you get closer, water in the desert is not.
never an ocean. Todd Gurley is an ocean. Water in the desert is never even a raging river.
That's Ezekiel Elliott. Water in the desert is usually a little water in the desert,
but it's not sustainable forever. I'll go back to what I said in a draft that was jammed full
of running backs. One NFL GM told me richest running back draft he could ever remember.
You had a franchise quarterback who went to your cross-down rivals.
Your quarterback's 37 years old.
And you went with a lightning running back who was going to provide a lot of runs like this.
I like him.
Don't get me wrong.
I like him.
I'd have taken Nick Chub in round two.
I'd have gotten Sam Darnold in round one.
Todd Gurley last year, Rams were 6 and 0 in his six big games.
He carried them on.
Sundays. Carried them. But again, when you are so boring, when your second leading
Russia all time is Rodney Hampton, Sey Juan Barclay, he is water in the desert. And I get it.
But you know when you see that water and you get up close to it, it's always a little smaller
and less sustainable than it appears. Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the her.
Third line news.
So Tom Brady hasn't played in the Patriot's first preseason game since 2015.
But according to Jim McBride of the Boston Globe, Brady didn't play Thursday because of a sore back.
He also reports that Brady had a lighter workload and practiced the past few days.
And of course, Bill Belichick obviously didn't reveal anything in the postgame press conference when he was asked about Brady sitting out.
Did he panic time?
I have a joy.
I really believe what I'm about to say is that if the, if the, if the, if the man's,
Dan DeMorris Smith, who represents the players in the NFLPA, I would going forward
have a rule that stipulates in the CBA.
Once you have played two years in this league, you no longer play preseason games.
Once you have shown people enough tape after two years, this is what I can do.
Like two full seasons?
Two full years.
By year three in the NFL, you never have to appear in a preseason game.
I'm going to have two full years of your talent.
I don't need to see how you can do against the Jaguars' fourth corner.
I strongly support any NFL player, any NFL player who has been in this league for any substantial part of time, never playing in these games.
Well, yeah, I mean, obviously we don't need to see anything from Tom Brady in the preseason.
I think we figured out Tom at this point.
The bigger point is his sore back.
That's what people are concerned about.
Yeah, I mean, I think old guys just have more nagging injuries.
That's just the downside
That's the downside
It'll get them all fixed up
He'll give him a wrap down and be all good
All right
So Brown's GM John Dorsey
Made it a point last night
To tell reporters that Des Bryant
is not returning his calls
For a workout
So Des responded on Twitter
That's what he said
He said he's starting his visits next week
And that Cleveland will be on his list
He tweeted starting my visits next week
I'm coming to the land to see you Mr. Dorsey
He also responded to someone on Twitter
who said
Bosses don't make moves
out of desperation.
Employees don't understand this.
And Des responded, for real, I wouldn't mind playing for the Browns.
I just want to be right first.
Well, he should play for somebody because if he can sign before the season starts,
he has guaranteed money for the year.
I have no idea what does he's doing.
It's almost as if he would have us believe that he just has all of these options available to him.
I mean, I don't know.
Maybe he does, but it doesn't make sense that he has a bunch of options available to him.
Although he did reportedly turn down that offer from Baltimore for three years,
21 million. By the way, if you could have Jarvis Landry in the slot and Des Bryant
on the outside with Tyrod Taylor and Nick Chubb out of the backfield, got to be honest with you.
That's a pretty, again, I want Nick having 18 carries. I want Landry being targeted a dozen
times. I don't have a problem targeting Des seven, eight times. No. I don't have, I think that
Browns would actually be a good fit for Des. They have a lot of big personalities on their team. It's
not like they can't handle it.
Hugh Jackson, a coach has been around forever.
He can handle Des.
I'm just more confused as to the idea that he's just still waiting to make his decision.
Is that what's happening?
I'm not going to try to guess what Des is doing.
I don't know.
Finally, the injury bug hit the 49ers hard last night.
One of the most serious was the tight end, George Kittle,
and running back Matt Breitah, who both suffered shoulder injuries.
There were six injuries in total with Sickless and the Kyle Shanahan after the game.
Brutal.
So it scares you about training cam, so it scares you about the preseason.
You kind of just want the game to end when those things start happening
because you want those guys when the season starts.
But we also need to practice and get better.
So it's just something that you've got to deal with and it's part of this business.
You know, Hugh Jackson was talking about this on hard knocks this week
because some of the coaches taught Haley particularly wanted the guys to get out there
to kind of toughen up.
And his point was it's preseason.
We don't need these nagging injuries.
to become full-blown injuries by the time the season starts.
It's such a fine line that they have to walk, though.
I'm watching Kyle Shanahan last night during these injuries,
and I'm watching Sean McVeigh of the Rams during the blowout.
And I'm not joking.
Those coaches just wanted the games to end.
Sean McVeyer is looking at the clock in the third quarter,
and he's like, you can see, he's frustrated the games being played.
He's like, get me out of here.
I don't want to, you know what I mean?
I look at these coaches.
I mean, if I have a star player, I'm like telling him, T-shirts in August.
I am never having a, like, Sequin Barclay.
After that run, I would have been like, okay, I'm not putting anything else on tape.
That'll get sports radio talking about us.
Sell a few tickets.
Hit the bench.
Right.
They had six injuries last night.
George Kittle, Matt Brighta, Malcolm Smith, Solomon Thomas, Gary Gilliam and Eli Harold.
That's rough.
Rough.
Joy Taylor, the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Lie News.
He's a Hall of Famer.
He sat down like we did and watched all of that preseason action last night.
People say you can't learn anything from preseason.
You can learn some things in preseason, Eric Dickerson.
Now, I'm not going to learn if my veterans can play.
But I feel you can watch stuff.
And sometimes, like last night I watched Baker.
and I'm like physically, he looks small.
And now, Carson Wentz, by the way,
when Dak came out for the Cowboys,
remember two years ago, you're like,
boy, he looks like he fits in the room.
He was big, he was strong, he was confident,
and everybody can say preseason means nothing.
You watched Dak come out with the Cowboys.
Man, I saw him and...
You came on this show.
I was like, who was this guy?
I just noticed his accuracy.
I'm like, man, he can throw the football.
I said, who he'd say, he's Dak Prescott?
I said, where did he come from?
I think Mississippi.
I'm like, I said, man, he can throw the football.
So I was very impressed.
So preseason can tell you something.
Absolutely.
Got some guys look overwhelmed.
And some guys look like they, you know, it's one of these things where body anxiety.
Lamar Jackson first week looked a little nervous.
And Dak Prescott first start looked like he'd been a nine-year veteran in the NFL.
So you can learn stuff.
Let me talk about a non-football thing here.
Cam Newton before the game.
This had a high school cafeteria confrontation written all over it.
I don't want my high school.
I don't want my star quarterback anywhere near crap like this.
What did you make of him confronting Kelvin Benjamin before the game?
Kelvin had come out, kind of criticized him, taking a shot at him,
and then Cam Newton comes out.
What did you make of this?
I think that's what you do is a man.
A man?
Yes, most definitely.
You got to fight about it.
Because soon or later, Colin, they'll run to each other somewhere.
Restaurant, grocery store, party, NFL event.
And you don't want to be a heated argument.
Because, first of all, these are two football players that have a lot.
a lot of testosterone.
So most definitely, you go up to, hey, man, what's up?
You can tell him.
What's up, Doc?
Oh, you know, hey.
And he wasn't happening.
He was like, hey, look, almost like I said what I said, and it is what it is.
But that, that to me felt like a high school cafeteria confrontation.
No, a high school fighting the cafeteria would be like throwing stuff and acting like a
child.
They were just walking and talking.
I mean, you could tell Calvin Benjamin was like, hey, man, look, it is what it is.
And Cam was like, hey, talk to me, talk to me.
Talk to me about it because, like I said, they're going to run into each other once again.
By the way, would Russell Wilson do that? Would Andrew Luck do that?
Hey, probably not, but that's Cam Newton.
That's Cam Newton.
But isn't that why a lot of us go, dude?
You know, you can't compare apples and oranges.
There are two different guys, two different personalities.
I mean, as a young black quarterback, you already, you know, have kind of a chip on your show.
Like, hey, I want to, let's talk about this.
And we don't know what the conversation was.
I mean, you don't know what he was saying.
It could have been, like, funny or serious, but it was.
Well, at the end, it looks like at the end, right there, what Cam's saying at the end is,
I tried to be above you and you ain't going to listen, I'm out.
But see, but you don't know if he said that now.
He could have said, all right, dog, I'll house you later.
So you don't know what he said.
Cam, he looks very frustrated if you watch this video.
Right here.
Now, right there he looks frustrating.
No, Cam's got his ham out.
He's like, come on.
He said, hey, step back, Doc.
To Thomas step back.
Yeah, let me talk to him.
Now, there's where he's trying to act tough.
And Benjamin was like, hey, what's up?
You see, down, like, hey, you know, I said what I said, and it is what it is, and I'm through with it.
He's like, man, talk to me.
Just talk to me.
That's how Cam's walking behind.
Now, watch Cam right here.
Cam looks like he's trying to say, and, yeah, you can tell Kelman and say, I said what I said.
Now, Cam here's upset.
He's like, look, man, I try to be cool with you.
Forget you.
I'm done with you.
He's all right, man.
Forget it.
I'm all right, dog.
I would rather have my franchise quarterback worry about football stuff than that.
It's preseason.
So you said preseason on council.
No, no.
I believe preseason me.
stuff. When you watch Dak Prescott, everybody said, oh, oh, he fits. When you watch
Lamar last week, you're like, oh, he looks, he's a little nervous. He looks a little overwhelmed
by the passing game. He can wiggle a little bit, but I do think, let's talk about Lamar Jackson.
Okay, so he was seven for 18. Flacco had one drive, looked great, had a great camp,
nobody cares. I've been saying this about Lamar Jackson, is that it's a proud franchise in
Baltimore. The rival Steelers are pulling away from them. This is a franchise in a city that
loves the NFL. They appreciate what Flacco did, but they feel like they're done with Flacco.
I feel like it's going to be Tebow, that he's not ready. He was a little over-drafted. He's seven
for 18. He got saved on a jump ball by a wide receiver, but I think he's going to play.
You know, I think he's going to play because one reason is that the general manager believes in him.
You know, I talked to Ozzie Newsom, but I walked up to him. I was talking to
I said, it's the Hall of Fame.
I said, tell me about Lamar Jackson.
And he said, Eric, we love him.
He said, I'm telling you, he's a player.
He's a football player.
He said, I know he's a little bit raw right now,
but he's a football player.
And if the general manager believes that,
a guy who played football in the Hall of Fame,
Ozzy Newsom, is something there.
See, we as spectators, well, you as a spectator.
I'm a spectator now.
You know, we don't know the ends and out what goes on in the locker room,
how he goes through his drills.
He's young.
I mean, he's a young quarterback.
And I'm sure this is overwhelming for him.
everything happens at a different speed in the NFL.
Yeah, I think you have to be fair with Lamar.
You know, it's something a general manager in the NFL told me something years ago.
There's more than one way to win.
Okay, Peyton Manning, you can throw 45 times.
Open up the playbook.
Alex Smith, Blake Bortles, I got to protect you a little bit.
Blake Bortles, I want you throwing 24 times with a great running game.
I think Lamar is one of those guys.
I don't see him as a guy when I watch him throw his accuracy.
I don't see him as a guy that I can say, hey, it's third and,
nine, we have no running game. They know you're throwing. But I do think you give him a big
wide receiver. He can save you on some big throws downfield. You give him a running game so we can
throw a little bit on play action. So the linebackers have to be honest. I think we have to be fair
with Lamar. There is more than one way to win as a quarterback. Now, you played with Vince
Farragamo on point, right? Right. Okay, Vince is a guy you could throw 35 times. He can throw it,
right. But you probably play with quarterbacks. You play with Jeff George. He had a big arm. I'd
rather Jeff throw fewer times
because I don't trust his judgment.
Right?
Jeff had a big arm, but you know, Jeff
wasn't coached right, but that's the whole other salary.
I'll say this much here.
As far as winning, let's take
you look at Doug Flutie, you're like,
if you didn't know anything about him, like
him, but could Doug Flutie win
football games? Most definitely.
Some of the biggest football games.
Lamar Jackson, I think when you look at him,
you know, he looks like an athlete. When you see him,
he looks like an athlete. But
he can be taught accurate.
It's certain things you can't be taught.
I mean, and certain things you can be taught.
He can work on his accuracy.
Like a basketball player, you know,
LeBron James working on his outside shot.
You can work on certain things.
If you don't have the knowledge of the know-eth-all
how to process a defense and looking when you walk to the line of the screenings
and know what you're looking at,
then there's a problem because he has the athleticism.
You know, it depends on,
and I think really believe that Ozzy is going to give him exactly what he needs in Baltimore
to make him successful.
Now, I'm not going to say he's going to be Aaron Rogers
or nothing like that or Tom Brady, but, you know, you never know.
You believe he can work on his weakness.
I really believe he can work on his weakness.
And the thing is, is that he's a hard worker because that was one of the questions that he said, Eric, he's a very dedicated young man.
He comes in early.
So, you know, and that says a lot.
If you put work into your craft, you know, it's going to show on the field.
All right.
So Baker Mayfield, you know, I said this.
If you're a number one pick at quarterback, okay, you don't have to be as good as John Elway.
I'm not saying that.
But you either have to give me Cam's dynamic presence, Stafford's arm, Jared Goff, when you watched them last year, his efficiency.
When I watched Baker, I'm like, he looks small and I don't see a lot of wow there.
So is Drew Breeze.
No, no, no, no.
But when I watch Drew Breeze, I see throws and I think, wow.
Because you've seen it for a while.
When you first came out, no, you didn't say wow.
Have you ever seen Drew Breeze's rookie tape?
Yes.
San Diego?
He had some wild.
He had some, uh-oh, what is he looking at?
So what, when you saw Baker last night, what are your impression?
You know what?
I like Baker from the beginning, and I liked him because I like his intangibles.
I like his leadership qualities.
I like the way the guys respond to him when he comes on the field.
As a football player, you got to stand kind.
This is all hype.
It's all hype.
When your guy comes on, come on, come on, he gets his team excited.
He's accurate.
I think they need that leadership.
in Cleveland right now.
Since 1999, the Browns have had
29 quarterbacks.
I mean, you hope him, this is the guy,
but, you know, the throws he threw last night,
I mean, the one he threw to David Anjoku,
I think it was a, was a, was a, was a, was a,
it was right there or is intercepted or was knocked down.
And they went through the Callaway,
perfect.
I mean, that's, that's, that, you can, you can teach that,
but you can't teach it.
You can tell for him, it's just natural.
It's what he does.
No, no, no, he's an accurate thrower of the football.
I've never thought he was.
the bust. What you want?
We don't have an accurate-throw guy with a big one.
No, but Drew Brees was a second-round pick.
Russell Wilson was the third-round pick.
We're comparing him to guys.
Baker's a number one pick.
Eric Dickerson's are number one picks.
Anthony Munoz, that looks like a number one pick.
Javon Curse looks like a number one pick.
You've got to give me a lot of wow if you're number one.
Because I'm paying you like a number one.
Yeah, but you know, you want to play like a number one pick.
You might not always look like a number one pick.
I mean, I'm sure, I can't think guys are off the top of him here with number one pick.
Like, wow, he was the number one pick.
But you want him to play like a number one pick.
Last night, he played like a number one pick.
Oh, come on.
What do you want?
I mean, what do you want?
I mean, he gave you two touchdowns and two great passes.
He was three and out against the ones.
Is that his fault?
Yeah.
No.
I think a football team.
Come on, it's a team.
So you're really on the Baker.
I like, I think.
I think, I think, I think, I think,
I think this pick was good for the Browns.
Look, if you want the most talented guy in the draft,
I think you went with Josh Rosen.
To me, as a quarterback, that's who I like.
Over Sam Don. That's who I picked.
Well, yeah, Josh Rosen, I think.
If you say the most talented quarterback, you go with him.
I mean, if you want a guy that gives you stuff off the field,
also as a leader and a winner, boom, that's your guy.
I mean, I think he fits Cleveland better than Josh Rosen or Sam Dunn.
He looks like a Cleveland guy.
It's a guy that no one has ever given him anything.
By the way, Cleveland's got cold weather and they play outdoors.
all the small guys they've drafted,
Cody Kessler,
Brandon Whedon.
If you go back and look at their quarterbacks,
the small guys have struggled.
To me, if you look at northern weather,
who works,
Ben,
Flacco, Aaron Rogers' arm,
Matt Stavard's arm.
Aaron's not that tall.
But when you're playing outdoors in cold weather,
oh, he's got an accurate arm.
He didn't have a cannon.
You want that accuracy.
That's what you're.
you're looking for. But the bottom line, when you play outdoors in cold weather, that's why Teddy
Bridgewater, I always said, bad pick for Minnesota. I like Teddy. Teddy's not a northern quarterback.
Matt Ryan, by the way, works in a dome. The dome, right. Okay, Matt Ryan works in a dome, and then
is in the games out of Atlanta or in a dome in New Orleans and usually warm weather, Carolina.
When you go to this north, you go up, you go up north, you better have a guy that can throw the ball
through wind and rain and sleet. Now, what's going to happen when this guy comes? If he, if he,
he becomes real successful. You're going to eat those words.
Well, then he can come after me and rip me.
You guys, you will rip me all the time anyway.
Eric, I bring you on and you rip me all the time anyway.
I give you my opinion. It's not my opinion.
All right, Eric Dickerson. Coming up next, I think it's the silliest thing.
Honestly, I think it's the silliest thing in American sports, and we'll talk about it
coming up next. And I saw it again last night. Absolutely ridiculous.
All right.
Generally, over time, sports figures stuff out, leagues figure stuff out, right?
But it takes a while.
I always joke, in the late 90s, airlines were still allowing some smoking on planes.
I mean, it's, you know, generally you think corporations are pretty smart,
but from time to time, you look at these leagues and you're like,
that's a dumb rule.
Why are they doing that?
The NFL right now has one thing that I think is absolutely moronic,
the NFL four game preseason.
Last night, the 49ers had kids.
injuries to six players.
One of Solomon Thomas, a very promising defensive lineman got a concussion.
Malcolm Smith, a hamstring.
You had a very good tight end.
George Kittle.
He's a second year tied end at a shoulder injury.
Why are you doing this?
Why are you doing this?
Okay, let me ask you.
College football has 19-year-olds who are often straight out of high school.
The NCAA limits how much you can practice.
There are no joint practices with other schools.
There's no exhibition games.
And you'll watch Alabama, Ohio State, Washington, Stanford, first game.
You're like, oh, they're good.
The NFL's got veterans.
60, 70% of the locker room, 27-year-old, 28-year-old, 29.
They have OTAs.
They have 30 days of camp.
They have joint practices.
You have better coaching that can delineate great, good, average talent.
And they need four games.
What?
Greed.
It's all it is.
It's ridiculous.
You're jumping over a $20 bill in the NFL to get to a five.
You're getting players hurt.
That's why I said if I run the CBA for the players, I'm Demora Smith.
After two years in the league, no more preseason games.
You never have to play in one.
Okay.
And I would say this.
I would have one preseason game.
And I'll tell you why.
College football is not well run.
I mean, the Big Ten plays this many in-conference games.
The SEC plays only this many in-conference games.
The schedules are completely uneven.
You know, you can look at Washington's schedule and go, what?
Then you look at Auburn's schedule and you're like, what the hell is that?
College football has been given Labor Day forever and they can't get it right.
They've got three days, Friday, Saturday, Sunday to steal everybody's thunder.
And they give us maybe two good games.
120 Division I programs this year, they give us Auburn and Washington.
That's it.
and then a bunch of stuff I can nap through.
NFL, move your season up, start in Labor Day,
week before I have a preseason game.
Listen, you can't tell me it takes Sean Payton
that Sean Payton can't have two OTAs,
a rookie camp, a fall camp, 33 practices,
joint scrimmages, one preseason games where veterans don't play,
and Sean Payton can't go,
I think that number three tight end is better than that number four tied end.
he can't do that.
Now, it's different if you and me watch college football.
And then I've made mistakes.
I'm like, I think this guy will be really, really average,
and he's really, really good in the pros.
But you and I don't get OTA video.
You and I don't watch the camp video.
You and I don't get practice video.
You and I aren't in a room for 16 hours a day looking at all the video and the work.
Coaches know very early.
You ever watch American Idol?
I have no musical talent.
None.
None.
Now, Joy, at one point, was a muralist.
So she has artistic gifts.
I used to sing in church growing up.
You're artistically gifted.
I don't have any of it.
I'm a radio guy.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
I had puberty in that one away.
Yeah, okay.
Okay, so I used to watch American Idol.
Right.
Okay, I have no talent, no gifts in music.
You could spot about twice a season, that's a star, and you could spot it in 30 seconds max.
Then you could spot a dozen times.
There's somebody who could, you know, work in a lounge, do a commercial.
That's a nice singing voice.
not a star. And then you could see a bunch of people whose grandma kept telling him,
you're Whitney Houston. They had no talent. And you could tell quickly. And I can honestly say,
I watched American Idol a lot for about five years. And then I got tired of it. I don't think
I ever disagreed with Simon Cowell. And Simon was the most accurate. I almost never, I can't think
of any time I did. You can spot talent, physical talent, musical talent. I tell the story all the time.
I went into a gym in Hartford, Connecticut. This was like seven, eight,
years ago. My daughter was like 10 years old. She was playing some, you know, AAU stuff. I walked into a
gym of 500 girls in 12 games, and I sat next to these scouts. And I said, I looked over to court.
And there was this little tiny girl and I'm like, who's that? Two minutes in, they're like,
oh, yeah, she's the next star. It was seventh grade girls basketball. She was tiny. And I'm like,
gosh, she's got great handles for it. They're like, oh, yeah, coaches already looking at her.
10 seconds?
NFL coaches, if you can't through joint practices,
rookie camps, multiple OTAs, fall camp,
33 days of practice,
and then one exhibition game,
you can't say,
this corner is better than that corner.
I'm not even mentioning all the college tape you have
and all the interviews you've done
and the combine and the personal workouts.
There's like nine layers before you get to an exhibition.
game and you can't tell the difference. Come on. It's not that tough. I'm not talking about med school
where you need eight years to qualify for something. We're talking about the entertainment business.
Music, right? I've said this before. I can open up, I'm not a great writer. I can open up. You give me
five columnists. Five columnists. I can read all their columns and go, that's the best writer. That's
the worst writer. Then you and I can argue, give me a second column to tell who's second, third,
forth. But I can tell good and bad really quick. It's actually easier to see bad than,
you know, I mean, great can be hard. You can argue good to great. Bad's bad and it's easy.
Average is average and it's easy. You and I can argue over very good and great. You can argue over
that. But by the way, both very good and great would make your roster. You're not arguing over
awful. You spot him early. Average. He's out of camp. This stuff is, I'm watching that game last
night. Kyle Shanahan wanted that game to end.
I bet if you got most coaches in a room, they would tell you they don't need this many
preseason games or want this many preseason games.
It's partly, we've done it this way for so long.
Why change it? And partly because they make money on preseason games.
That last part?
So you can spot musical talent as well?
Well, sure. I mean, the greatest at everything at anything will stick out to you.
Like that.
someone who doesn't even know the business. But there is something to allowing young players to develop.
I agree with you that rule change of being in the league or playing two full seasons or something like that.
You just don't play preseason anymore. You're out. But it's likely not going to change because
they make the NFL makes money on these games.
It's very frustrating. Coming up next, I told you yesterday, the quarterback I wanted to watch was Patrick Mahomes.
And at Kansas City, we're going to talk about that. Plus, big, strong, fast, powerful.
Men are attracted to do it. Men want to be it. Women are attracted to it.
Women perhaps want to be it.
And that's not a terrible thing.
Hour number two is coming up.
We're just starting on a Friday in Los Angeles.
Don't go anywhere.
Next to Joy Taylor, this is The Herd.
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays in noon eastern 9 a.m.
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app.
This is The Herd.
Hour Number 2, wherever you may be and however you may be listening,
live in Los Angeles, IHeart Radio.
Fox Sports Radio on FS2 for the remaining two hours of our show,
Brady Quinn, Jay Glazer, Rob Parker in five minutes.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
You know, you've heard of people that do the classic overreaction, Joy.
Like you date a librarian and you date her for years and then it's kind of boring,
but she's safe, she's dependable, there's no chaos, she's nice.
Then you get bored, you dump her and you date a stripper.
you overreact.
It's like you did date the librarian for seven years.
There were a lot of great qualities about her.
Your parents liked her.
She was sweet.
She was nice.
She was dependable.
You could trust her.
She was awesome.
A little boring.
Then you overreact and you want to date cinnamon.
Who was working at the industrial district two hours ago in a building with no windows.
And you're like, okay, I'm going to overreact.
You got to be careful about that.
By the way, women probably do it too.
You had the safe, nice guy.
Then you go for the big hunk and the biker guy.
And this stuff happens.
It's the massive overreact.
When I watch Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, I have this gut feeling.
Did they overreact?
They had Alex Smith.
He was safe and he didn't throw interceptions and he was early to practice and he stayed late and everybody liked him and he was never in trouble and he didn't party.
He has a nice family and they're like, yeah, you're kind of bored.
Let's move up and get this kid from Texas deck and he throws them all 100 yards and he's raw and he's untamed.
and he, I'm watching him last night.
He got a cannon.
But man, is he raw?
And he's trying to throw a ball left-handed.
And he got Travis Kelsey and he overthrows him by 10 feet.
And I just think there sometimes, did Andy Reed, this is just a very human quality.
You overreact.
And that Alex Smith, there's a lot you liked about Alex Smith, dependable, high completion rate, never through picks.
Yeah, he's checked out.
Alex. Very safe.
Did they over?
It's like, and I, and here's the thing.
There's certain things in life you can fix, maybe accuracy.
There's other things in life you manage personality.
Like Brett Farv was a part of your earlier and a risk taker late.
That's just who Brett Farb was.
You never tamed Brett Farv.
You didn't coach him.
You managed Brett Farb.
Mike Dan Tony says you manage Kobe Bryant.
You don't tame him.
You just manage Kobe Bryant.
Johnny Knoxville, guys don't wake up at 32 and say, I want to stick a needle in my eye.
Johnny Knoxville in high school was the guy that went around the cafeteria and said,
I'll eat anything for a dollar.
I'll eat anything in the school.
Erasers, I'll eat all of them for a dollar.
That too becomes Johnny Knoxville.
You don't fake Johnny Knoxville.
That's his personality.
Johnny Knoxville's been a crazy guy his whole life.
And then he found a TV and a movie enterprise to make him rich while he was doing it.
But here's my thing about Patrick Mahomes.
I watch him last night, is that there's no excuses for this kid.
Okay, he's got a brilliant offensive coach, star running back.
The best tied end in the league, including Gronk, because Gronk's never healthy.
He also has two now, Sammy Watkins, Tyree Kill, two home run talents on the outside.
And by the way, Patrick Mahomes, got to sit for a year and watch people.
Oh, that's sitting and watching thing, huh?
Five preseason games now.
Sitting and watching.
Do you think I'm crazy on that that sometimes I don't think he's an untamed, raw, inconsistent quarterback.
And I do wonder a little bit if they overreacted to Alex Smith sort of more, I don't know, sedated style.
Yeah, I don't want to overreact to what Patrick Mahomes did last night, although I do agree with all of your.
assessments of what he is.
But we've talked about this a lot.
That whole, oh, he's got a cannon.
You can throw a ball over that mountains.
Like that quality, while it sounds fun and it's awesome in high school and it looks really
fancy on sports center highlights is really not what the NFL is anymore.
Like, yes, we love those big plays and we crave them and they are very cool, but is that really
actually how you win games anymore?
By the way, how does someone like Cole Beasley survive in the NFL?
How does Danny Amandola?
Julian Edelman.
Those are players that can play and be successful and contribute.
If that was the case, they wouldn't be in the NFL if everybody was throwing these long passes.
That's why I think Andy Reid went out and got Sammy Watkins, is that Andy Reid said,
listen, this is not an efficiency play here.
Tyreek Hill, bust it long.
Travis Kelsey is a tied end that goes vertical.
Sammy Watkins.
I think Andy knows we're going to be a much bigger playoffence, but if you're looking for consistency,
you're not going to get it with this kid.
I just see a kid that's just
Andy is going to, I think Andy,
that's why Andy went and got Sammy Watkins.
He said, listen, this kid,
there's a little Ben Rothersburger to him.
He would rather just throw it deep.
I mean, it's almost biblical.
If you have a gift, you show it off.
If you have a great singing voice,
you sing in the shower, you sing in the car.
Well, you have, then you got to cater your offense to that.
You can't expect him to be Alex
and he's trying to throw it downfield all the time.
So I think they're going to become
very much just a,
bingo or bust offense.
There are going to be a lot of big plays and a lot.
And then there's going to be, they're just a lot of three and outs.
Because that offensive line needs a lot of work.
So I want to bring in Rob Parker, the FS1 instigator on a Friday.
I'm surprised he has time for us because he's not out instigating problems everywhere.
Joy, what's happening?
What does an instigator do on the weekend, by the way?
You know, cause trouble.
What do you do this?
You don't think you'd have done?
Well, I'm going to go to the A's Angel game down in Anaheim.
Oh.
You know.
By the way, the A's don't have a tenure contract with their stadium.
The Angels give tenure contracts to everybody, and who's the way better team?
I know.
The A's are.
Oh, by far.
Unbelievable.
But Andy Reid, none of the changes they should have made was with Andy Reid, not with the quarterbacks.
Yes.
I would have rather had Donna Reed did Andy Reid at this point.
Oh, God, I love Andy.
Nineties.
Clever.
Clever.
schematically. He can't win anything big, though. Oh, big game. He doesn't win a big game.
Time out. Sundays are big games. No. They're all big games. No, they're always disappointing. Look at his record in the postseason. I'm sorry. Enough. We've seen them.
NFC championship five times. That's nice. And they didn't win a Super Bowl championship. Oh, boy. That's how you, that's how you just. So I guess you got to win a Pulitzer to be a legitimate writer. I didn't say that. Well, that's what you're saying with Andy.
No, but he's had great teams and whatnot. They've been disappointing. You've got to say that.
Had great teams, had Donovan McNabb's not great.
But look at his record and what they've done in Kansas City.
They can't win.
They keep winning every year.
They're in the playoffs.
Yep, but they can't move on and try to win a Super Bowl or get to the next level.
You're one of those guys.
I'm one of those guys.
I'm sorry.
I'm sorry.
You like Bobby Cox, too, with the Atlanta Braves.
Let me see.
They went to 16 straight.
They won the division 16 straight years, and he won one World Series with three Hall of Fame pictures.
So you tell me Dusty Baker can't manage.
No, I didn't say that.
But Dusty Baker can't do anything in the postseason.
But he's been disappointing.
That's the reason why he keeps getting fired.
Dusty Baker has had success.
He won three straight.
He won three National League manager of the years.
I know.
But he can't get over the home.
Dusty Baker should be managing in baseball.
Dusty Baker wins games.
They don't want old guys who don't want to do the analytics.
That's why those guys aren't around anymore.
Okay, so I'm watching.
I said this.
This is the way it works.
In Chicago, the Cubber.
and the White Sox have an unspoken rivalry.
They're battling for fans and corporate sponsors.
Los Angeles, Rams, Chargers.
They may be splitting revenue at the new stadium,
but they both want to be number one.
Clippers, Lakers, Jets, Giants, Mets, Yankees.
You may act in the public, well, they're in a different division.
They're in a different conference.
The Jets and the Giants are competing.
I saw Seguan Barclay last night, and I'm like, yeah, that's a nice run.
But Sam Darnold went one pick behind him to the Jets.
I don't know. Rob, I think you're going to look back in 10 years and the Jets are going to be the team.
100%. I think the Giants will rue the day that they blew it as far as picking a franchise quarterback,
Colin for the next 10, 12, 15 years. I have no idea. When you have a season like that,
which was like the Giants all time worse, and you have a chance to pick a quarterback for the future.
And you can't live in the past. The Eli Manning thing, I guess.
Get it. He won two Super Bowls. You gave him the parades, all the other stuff. But it's over.
And you've got to pick a running back in this league, which is a quarterback league. They thought a football.
If you look in the world today in any business, what generally is the most expensive thing is something that's of high quality and rare.
The less rare something is, the less it's worth. You can have great eggs at a grocery store.
but every grocery store has got lots of good eggs.
Sequin Barclay's a good running back.
Dude, there were eight draftable running back.
Kareem Hunt played at Toledo.
He's a good running.
Alvin Kamaria barely saw.
The NFL gives you one great college quarterback a year.
They had it.
It was sitting right there.
Right there.
And I don't get it.
This whole notion, but this is living in the past.
I mean, this is going to come back to bite him.
Go look at Eli's numbers.
I've always given Eli credit.
I'd rather have Eli Manning than Philip Rivers.
And I'm talking about in the big moments, what happened?
He came through, right?
No, no, no.
Eli, in big moments, was at his best.
Philip is great, but in big moments, it's thrown picks.
Absolutely.
So I get that.
But you have to look and be honest with yourself.
There's a time for everything.
Everything gets stale.
Everything has a shelf life, right?
At some point, you've got to move on to the next thing.
Four years in a row now, Eli has.
has been not a B, but a C quarterback.
All right, so I love this story.
Tom Brady will make $15 million this year.
If he was an NBA player, he'd be Trevor Areza.
He's never been the highest paid player,
and his ability to suppress his ego
and say, I'd rather have another good slot receiver
and a good right tackle is remarkable to me, and you don't buy it.
No, you're giving him way too much credit.
Why?
If you weren't the big breadwinner in your family, he has a supermodel wife who makes more money than him.
So the whole notion that, oh, Tom has given up money and how admirable it is, I don't give him as much credit as you do.
Money's not an issue in his family.
And I don't know why.
Why in the world would you ever?
Colin, you wouldn't do it.
Why wouldn't you decide to get paid what the market bears?
He's able to do it because there's no money issue in his family.
Okay, let me ask you this, though.
There's no money issue in Peyton Manning's family either.
But when he went to Denver, he pouted when John Elway said,
dude, we got to cut it to get more good players around you.
Peyton Manning has no money issues.
His wife's not a supermodel making more money.
He's the breadwinner.
His dad is a millionaire.
It doesn't matter.
I'm talking about his wife.
Okay, I'll even support Brady Moore.
Think about this.
Would you acknowledge that sports, there's a machismo feel to it?
No doubt about it.
No doubt.
Okay, if my, I'm in a non-tuff guy business, but when you're in a machismo business, professional sports, regardless of what your wife makes, in that locker room, you a man or is she running the show, it would be very easy for Tom to say, I need respect when I walk through those doors.
I'm still the man.
He's able to suppress that and go, I don't give a rip, I'll be the 80th highest pay.
NFL player. There's some value in that. It would be so easy to say, listen, I'm in a guy's world.
I walk through those locker room doors. I'm not going to be like, my wife has a better job
that I'll take whatever you give me. It's a machismo world. I get it, but it's easier when
you have that. They're not going to go without, they're not going to have to get the day old bread
from the bakery because Tom Brady's making $15 million instead of $22 million. Let's shift to this.
Aaron Rogers came out this week.
I've been critical of Aaron when he's passive aggressive.
I don't like that.
Calling out his team, the quarterback coach, Van Pell.
Just say it.
It pissed me off.
I mean, by the way, we have no problem with an NBA player.
LeBron rips guys.
We have no problem.
Kyrie can rip somebody.
We have no problem.
Why can't Aaron Rogers?
This week, he came out and wasn't passive aggressive.
He was just aggressive.
He called out not by name young receivers said they were awful.
We have sound of it.
Here it is.
Aaron Rogers earlier this week.
I love this by Aaron.
It was one of the worst card decisions we've had.
I don't know how you can make it any simpler.
You literally have what the play would be in our terminology on the card.
And the effort level is very low, especially what I'm accustomed to.
I like that.
I like it a lot.
But Aaron Rogers, to me, I love this guy more and more every day.
Look at this stuff.
to me is the face of the NFL from this standpoint. Look at what he's talking about. Yes, he called out
his receivers. He talked about the franchise tag and stuff that doesn't even affect him. He's
going to get paid, right, Colin? Right. He's not affected by that. He's talking about
for other people. He also about the NFL protest. He chimed in on that. He's in the
whitest place ever of Green Bay, Wisconsin. He doesn't have to get involved in that or talk about
it, right? At all.
he's a we guy.
Tom Brady's a me guy.
I'm telling you, Aaron Rogers is a we guy, and I love that.
He's embracing and taking on the responsibility of talking about the things that are affecting the league and affecting people.
I love that about him.
I'm going to throw this at you.
Joy, I respond to this too.
So Michael, once LeBron realized O for 2 after Miami, I'm never going to go six for six.
It wasn't long after that that LeBron started getting into politics and I Can't Breathe and Trayvon Martin Church and SB speeches.
And maybe that didn't trigger that.
But Michael, the knock on Michael is he's commerce over conscience.
And to me, it is propelled.
I do think LeBron sees it and knows he can't beat him on six for six and says, but I'll make him look small.
So Aaron knows he can't beat Tom on eight Super Bowls.
So Aaron's not dumb.
Aaron says, but where Tom has been reluctant to ever get involved in politics,
like LeBron, Aaron can say, I'm going to talk about issues like LeBron that are bigger than sports.
Is that possible that's what he's doing?
That is possible, but it's still admirable because he doesn't have to.
And what I'm talking about, I hear your point.
And Michael was ripped, you know this, Colin during when he was a player,
that he never said anything.
He was always about selling T-shirts and soda pop.
criticized. And LeBron, I give LeBron credit for standing up and talking about these other issues
that are going on. But I still think Aaron Rogers is different. He's going to get paid in a league
that doesn't always pay everybody and he doesn't have to embrace these things at all. He could
easily maneuver through and not have to deal with it. Yeah, let me give Aaron some credit
here. Aaron is in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The middle of this country, that becomes more Trump
territory. It does. I mean, the California is in your, your
liberal places on the coast.
Aaron's in the heart of Trump
territory. He's in the heart of the
part of America where they want you to stand for the anthem.
And Aaron goes right into the teeth of it.
Right into the teeth of it.
And it's impressive. And that's the
difference where Tom Brady, when he
was even asked about it, acted as if he didn't
know what was going on, even though this
has been going on for almost two years.
He played all shucks Tom Brady.
Oh, what's going on? I didn't know
what was happening. I don't have any comment on it.
Well, Rob, he did finally say that it
prompted some good conversation in the locker room.
No, he did, but his initial joy was what?
I'm with you. I'm being sarcastic.
I don't think that the thought of trying to catch MJ triggered LeBron to be this person
in any way.
No, I think it's because he has a young son, two young sons, but his oldest son was getting
older.
And when the Trayvon Martin thing happened, it triggered something in him to make him think,
hey, that could be my kid walking down the street.
And I feel compelled to get involved in that.
And now I think he sees the power.
that his voice has and what happens when he does speak.
So it's become part of his identity.
But I do agree with Rob about Aaron.
He doesn't have to get involved in any of this.
No, he's in.
But to Aaron's credit, they're not going to turn on him.
You're not turning on Aaron Rogers.
You're not going to get rid of Aaron Rogers because he supports the protests or anything
like that.
So if Aaron really recognizes his power, he could expand his brand far beyond what
Tom Brady is because we all know Tom Brady's never going to get involved in this
I will say this.
I think Aaron Rogers now is the face of the league.
He is.
I do believe so.
By the way, I felt even when Brady was better than Manning,
Peyton felt like more the face of the league because Peyton,
Peyton was doing Buicks and Oreos and pizzas.
Saturday Night Live.
Yeah, that's America.
Brady was going to Europe in the summer, supermodel wife.
He's wearing his ugs and he's dancing like a robot.
No, I really felt that Fav had, the Farrv was the face of the league.
Because the NFL's always been more of a blue-collar Middle America League.
The NBA tends to be a little more coastal.
It's a little hipper, a little more progressive, right?
And that's not to say NBA is not liked in the Midwest.
No, right.
The NFL's not watched on the coasts.
But there's a passion in the Midwest for the NFL that is just not,
you can't duplicate it in Los Angeles.
You just can't duplicate it.
They like it here.
They live for it in Green Bay, Rob Parker.
What are you doing this weekend again?
So I'm going to the...
A's Angels.
A's Angels game on Saturday.
That's my weekend.
You're a single guy.
You're going to a baseball game.
Yes.
You live next to Hollywood.
A couple of my buddies.
It's summertime.
What do you do on the weekends on a nice summer?
Go check out the baseball.
I don't have a yacht like you that you're going on.
He might meet a nice lady that loves baseball.
Thank you.
I might stop her from getting hit by a foul ball.
And believes his irrational thoughts on sports.
He wrong.
Joy, irrational.
Is that me?
It's a bit irrational.
Okay.
Coming up next, some Cam Newton thoughts.
Lamar Jackson. Welcome back. Great to have you in on a Friday. Nice to have you in on a Friday.
So I watched Lamar Jackson yesterday. And my reservations about Lamar were always that he had the best
offensive coach, in my opinion, in college football and Bobby Petrino. And still, if you look at his
college career, was never a guy that could complete 60% of his throws. That didn't matter in the 70s, 80s, 90s in the
NFL, but the NFL now is a precision league where they want you to complete 64, 65 percent.
Some guys like Drew Breeze have Sundays, they complete over 70 percent.
Today's NFL is different.
It's bubble screens.
It's precision.
It's pre-snap.
There's no huddles.
It is a different sport.
Lamar Jackson is an NFL player.
He's got a long way to go.
I don't believe he'll ever be an elite sit in the pocket throw guy.
I just don't see it.
He'll never be a guy that has no running game.
and everybody knows they have no running game
and he can just drop back and throw 42 times a game
and complete 29 to 32.
That's not his game.
He's not going to need a great offensive line.
He's not because he can change that pocket
and leave it whenever he wants.
I do think he needs a real running game
so he can throw on second and four, third and two.
That's play action.
That frees his linebackers.
He's going to need real running back help.
And I also think he's going to need a big receiver or two
to help him on jump balls because he's not that accurate a thrower.
I worry about, he does give you a wow moments.
That run you're watching right there is a wow moment.
Baker Mayfield didn't give me a wow moment last night.
The one quarterback, the two quarterback, Josh Allen, by the way, in Buffalo,
had a wow throw to the corner of the end zone.
That was a rocket.
That was a wow moment.
Lamar had a run.
That was a wow moment.
Baker was fine, which is what I said yesterday.
He'll be fine because I think he's going to be fine in the NFL.
He's going to be a little better than Case Keenham.
That's what he is.
That's his ceiling.
But with Lamar, I think you have to be realistic.
He's going to start before he's ready because he's flashy and fun,
and it's a proud city in Baltimore, and the Steelers are pulling away from him.
And just like Denver with Kyle Orton, you know, once the Raiders are the Chiefs start pulling away,
or rivals start pulling, the town gets restless.
And, I mean, Baker last night, or excuse me, Lamar last night was seven for 18.
Flacco was perfect.
Flacco's had a great camp.
He's been a Super Bowl MVP.
He's 10 and 5 in playoff games.
Flacco's had a great camp.
He had one drive.
He looked great.
He was perfect.
Nobody cares.
Lamar was 7 for 18.
His best pass was a jump ball by a tall wide receiver.
He had one little clever run against Vanilla,
second team and third team guys.
And people went crazy.
He's going to start sooner than he's ready for.
But you have to taper expectations.
There is more than one way to win in this league.
You do not want Blake Bortles throwing 30 times.
You don't.
Blake Bortals needs a great running back.
That's why Tom Coughlin came into the Jags and said, let's draft Leonard Furnett.
This guy can't be throwing the ball 32 times.
He can throw 22 to 26, big running game so he can throw on third and second and short.
There is more than one way to win.
Blake Bortles last year had a great defense and a great running game.
Oh, he won 10 games.
That's the way he can win.
Now, I think eventually you've got to move beyond Blake Bordals if you want to win Super Bowls.
Because you have to get a quarterback.
if you really get the right franchise quarterback,
like Brady, like Rogers, like Matt Ryan,
they can win 10 games when everything's not perfect.
Tim Tebow won six straight games.
When the defense was great,
the kicking game was amazing with Matt Prater.
Tebow won six straight games.
Lamar can win games and consecutive games.
But I don't think he'll,
he's going to have to build this puppy right around him.
Give him tall receivers who can go up and catch it.
Give him a running game.
and let him wiggle.
Don't take the wiggle away from him.
That's what he is.
He had to run last night.
He made several guys miss.
But this is not going to be Eli Manning, sit in the pocket.
It's not going to be Brady.
Alex Smith, you got to give Alex certain gifts or it's not going to work.
You got to give Bortle certain gifts or it doesn't work.
You had to give Tebow virtually every gift to make it sort of work.
With Lamar, give him a running game, let him wiggle a little, tall receivers.
He can win.
he's not ready yet but it's not going to matter because I'll tell you one thing I put games on I could have chosen from all those games last night I wanted to watch Lamar Jackson he has a I want to watch him quality joy Taylor the news
turn on the news this is the herd line news so training camp so far for the Browns has not included Josh Gordon and according to general manager john Dorsey it will remain that way for a while he said on Thursday Dorsey said on
Thursday, that there's no timetable for Gordon's return to the team.
So they seem to have a lot of faith in Josh Gordon, that wherever it is that he is and whatever
he's doing is not only sufficient for him mentally, but that also he's going to come back
when he does come back in shape.
But maybe this has something to do with why Des Bryant is going there.
Can I make an argument that he would be better suited to be in a less chaotic organization?
Oh, for sure.
If you put him with Aaron Rogers, if you put him with, you know, an organization that has a history of helping players, really like the Spurs.
Like there's certain organizations, St. Louis Cardinals historically, maybe Cleveland's not the world's best fit.
Probably not. You also have to, you know, have it within yourself to make those decisions.
Obviously, he has an issue with addiction problem.
So it's not, they may have been trying to actively help him this entire time.
By the way, what did you say, John, about hard knocks?
Just throwing this out there.
Maybe he's hiding from hard knocks.
Maybe he doesn't want any part considering what he's gone through the past few years.
Maybe he just doesn't want to deal with hard knocks.
That might be why they're okay with it.
They might be saying, just stay away, it's fine, and we'll bring you back in during the season.
Yeah, or maybe they don't want him there because of hard knocks.
So there could be something to that.
I think, you know, in a way, sports is like when you adopt kids, you have these adoption agencies.
and they want kids who have had troubled past to go into more stable families, right?
Right.
And it's some of these kids that come out of college.
They may have situations, no fault of their own,
that they're much better suited in a much more stable organization.
Now with Cleveland, you've got a rookie quarterback, you've got a coach on the hot seat,
you have a historically messy dysfunctional ownership.
Maybe this isn't a great.
And then now you've got hard-knock cameras.
Hard-knock cameras everywhere.
There's a lot going on.
So Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart spent much of their rookie seasons roasting each other on social media, which you did not like.
It's kind of escalated into some more elaborate roasting, even though I think it's all just jokes.
But the Lakers told them to tone it down.
So when the Lakers shared their first look of LeBron practicing in Lakers gear on Thursday, by the way, LeBron is rocking the girls' volleyball tie-up move with the tape on the jersey.
I used to do that with my jersey.
Anyway, Josh Hart jumped in on the Instagram comments
and asked why it looked like LeBron was wearing a skirt.
So the Lakers posted the picture and said the king in his new lab, hashtag Lake Show.
Josh Hart went on there and said, why does it look like he got a skirt on?
Roasting.
Which is kind of funny.
LeBron has put on some gains.
Someone.
He's looking bigger.
You think he's bigger?
I think everyone thinks he's looking bigger.
Yeah, I know.
Which is weird because he is always talking about getting slimmer.
I always thought LeBron, I could be wrong on this.
Doesn't he come in a little thicker to start the year and the weight just falls off him?
I don't know.
I feel like he's always trying to get smaller as he gets older.
So it's less wear and tear on his joints.
But he does not look smaller there.
But are you okay with Josh Hart roasting him?
Yeah, I think that's not.
I think that's funny.
It's not personal or mean-spirited.
I think it's fine.
Cusma, Lanzo stuff didn't work for me.
It escalated too much.
Finally, after coming up short a few times,
James Harden finally came to his first MVP award.
He did, however, come up short against the Warriors
in the Western Conference finals after pushing them to a game seven.
So you would expect him to come in the best shape of his life.
Right.
Well, speaking of LeBron's recently spoke out.
Oh, my, he looks a little heavy.
All right.
First of all, that is just an amazing picture.
and I don't even
I just, so anyway, there's some pictures
out of James Hardin where he's not
looking like he's in the greatest shape.
I am not, I'm not doing this body-shaming
thing. I think he's fine.
It's offseason.
He's, you know, he's taking a little time off.
It's going to be okay.
And not going to do the Tony Romo thing.
Who else was it recently that everyone was slipping out about?
We showed their picture.
Yeah, who?
Brady. Oh, yeah, Brady.
He was at the beach with Giselle.
Yeah, people.
But he didn't look big.
He just looked like,
You know, no muscle going on.
The NBA is such a cardio league.
About three games in, you can shed weight in the NBA so fast.
You start, man, the NBA games, I've read, you know, I've read articles before, you know, baseball is sedentary.
A lot of guys in baseball, you don't move a ton.
And the NFL, it depends on the position.
A corner runs a lot more obviously than a quarterback.
They're playing the NBA now at the pace the NBA games are playing.
I don't worry if a guy comes in 15 heavy.
I'm positive James Hardin is still in amazing shape.
The internet must be great at that carnival weight-guessing game.
Do you remember that game?
Yes.
They just must rock that one.
They always do this in Hollywood.
You'll look at the National Enquirer, and they'll have like an unflattering picture of Cameron Diaz.
She's gained 45 pounds or she's pregnant with quadruplets.
It's like you do get, she'll get three trainers and before the movie roll.
Or maybe it's just a bad picture of a bad angle and the wind blew the dress up a little bit.
Exactly.
I need the right lighting.
You all need good lighting.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd-Ly News.
Brady Quinn's around the corner, played some football in Ohio,
college football seasons around the corner, too.
I'm all jacked up for that.
Labor Day's a couple of weeks out.
Auburn, Washington's the big game.
How good USC going to be?
Schedule's tough early.
Nick Sabin's got a quarterback controversy.
His thoughts on Baker, Mayfield, and playing in Cleveland.
That's around the corner.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
Brady Quinn, 22nd pick in the 2007 draft, eight years in the NFL in the all-time Notre Dame.
Passing yard, passing touchdown leader hosts a show on Fox Sports Radio Sundays.
From 9 p.m. to midnight Eastern with Jonas Knox, and he is joining us here.
Brady, first of all, you have intimate experience with the Cleveland Brown situation.
and I believe that sometimes as fans, people overlook what you inherit.
I do think if Carson Palmer would have inherited Belichick, he had a great career.
It could have even been greater.
I think if you put Tom Brady in Cincinnati, he would have still been exceptional,
but he probably isn't to eight Super Bowls.
I worry that Baker Mayfield is not the kind of transformative player that can carry dysfunction.
Maybe I'm wrong.
What did you see last night?
What is your guess on him?
I don't know that Cleveland's in a position right now where you could still label them dysfunctional.
And I think that has a lot to do with the decision that Jimmy Haswell made in keeping Hugh Jackson around his head coach, even after only winning one game the past two years.
And one of the reasons why they say that is because I talked to a future Hall of Famer Joe Thomas, who recently retired.
And I asked him, of all the head coaches you had during your time of the Cleveland Brown, who do you like the best?
Do you feel like it was the best head coach?
He said Hugh Jackson.
So to me that kind of sent the message that because of the position Hugh was put in with some of the front office people and decisions that they made and before him, they want to give him some time.
And I think Jimmy Haslam as being a new owner as far as a majority owner of the Cleveland Brown, you know, relatively young, I would say his ownership compared to the rest of the owners in the league.
You know, he's remaining patient with Hugh Jackson, at least giving him one more year.
And he's brought in John Dorsey.
So I don't think Baker Mayfield is inheriting quite as much as his.
dysfunction as it used to be. And I do think this is one of the most talented
rosters that Cleveland had, maybe since they've come back since 1999. By the way, I do think
he throws a good football. I mean, Brady, I do think he delivers repeatedly an accurate football.
That's why I don't think he's a bust. I mean, as far as throwing the football, what do you see?
Well, I mean, it's way too early to label anyone a bust at this point. But no, you're right. He's
accurate. And I think that's what made him so successful at the college football level. He carries himself with
such confidence because of that accuracy.
So when he goes out there, he feels like he can make any throw, and that was what was on display,
I think, last night versus New York.
It is that confidence and is that accuracy as well as the poise.
He's always been really good at negotiating the pocket and finds ways of making space when
maybe there's not as much space.
And then getting his body around to make a throw, all those things were on display.
My concerns are this.
If you go back and you show the touchdown pass that he threw to Injoku, the very first one,
You know, he kind of goes back in the pocket.
He initially drops back, steps the pocket, steps up.
And then as he has to wait, he actually drops back further.
You know, that's something that typically you're not going to get to do once you go against the ones
and once you're playing in regular season game.
That's a habit that he may have developed in college and something that's probably not going to fly in the NFL.
There were times when you see him if he wasn't throwing to his first read, you know, the ball wasn't quite as accurate.
He wasn't quite as on time.
Those are things that teams are going to force him to do once you get into regular season games.
and once teams are game planning against you.
So I thought it was a solid debut.
He still obviously has strides to make.
But the guy who stole the show for me last night was Josh Allen.
He looked like the number one overall talent as far as quarterback.
With that arm strength and how polished he looked,
and with the athleticism, he displayed as well.
Yeah, Josh Allen of Buffalo made a throw to the corner of the end zone.
That was a rope.
Now, again, I think I compare him a little bit to Lamar.
I think he's a little bit of a project because he just,
didn't play at the college level against day in and day out your big five teams.
He did make an amazing throw in that game.
Now, I heard you weren't as impressed with Andrew Luck.
What concern you?
Well, not so much that I wasn't impressed, just concerned.
And, you know, they didn't ask them to do a bunch versus Seattle.
Some of that could be game plan.
You know, they typically have a very good defensive front.
So you're going to have a lot of shorter passes, quick passes, and screens, which you saw
early on.
But it was a few of the downfield throws.
They just didn't have the same type of pop, the same type of.
tip. There was even a time when he was rolling
to his right, made a throw on the sideline.
And it just didn't look like
the Andrew Luck that, you know, you can remember
in his first three years. Now, granted,
he's had some wear and tear, and obviously coming
off a shoulder injury. But that's
the concerning thing most is, you know,
when you watch a guy like Josh Allen,
or even Patch Mahomes for that matter,
and he didn't display it last night, but throughout the
course of his week 17 game he started
last year, those guys have
so much velocity, so much speed, they can make
throws all over the field. Luck, you
to be like that. He used to make defenses
after defend the entire field. Based
on how his ball kind of tailed off and how
it looked last night, I'm more
concerned with how it's going to hold up to the course
of 16 games, including
this preseason. By the way, Cam
Newton pregame goes over to Kelvin Benjamin.
I said earlier it had kind of a high school cafeteria
confrontation feel to it.
I don't see Russell Wilson doing that. I don't see
Aaron Rogers doing that. I don't think you should
care about some number two
receiver in Buffalo. What do you make of him
before the game confronting Kelvin Benjamin?
You know, I'm actually a fan of Cam because he's genuine.
You know, that's who he is.
And whether you like it or not, that's how he handles himself.
And when someone says something about him through the media,
instead of saying it to his face, he's the type of guy that's going to, when he sees him,
he's going to come up and confront him.
So it may look bad, but, you know, for all Cam Newton knew,
maybe he thought they were cool.
Maybe he thought they had a good relationship and a good rapport during his time in Carolina.
And this could have been the first thing he heard about it.
You know, I'm sure he wasn't pleased with how that went,
wanted to talk to a man-a-man face-to-face.
And I don't have a problem with that.
I wish actually more players took the time to do that
instead of just airing out their dirty lodging through the media on Twitter.
I mean, go ahead and try to find some sort of, you know,
reconciliation or resolution face-to-face like Ben should.
By the way, Sequin Barkley, you know, you watch a lot of Big Ten football.
I don't think he's Azheel Elliott.
I don't think he's Todd Gurley.
I said he's lightning like Alvin Kamar.
but Alvin Kamara has Mark Ingram to create the thunder.
You know, I just, I wouldn't have taken him number two,
and I do think he's really good.
But he doesn't feel like Todd Gurley to me,
and if you're going to take a running back too,
boy, I just see how many undrafted guys
and late-round guys in the NFL go college to pro running back and make it.
I mean, what do you make of him?
College to pro, he had one nice run last night.
Well, what do you make of him as a talent long-term?
Well, I don't know that there's a long-term shelf life for
for many running back in the NFL.
So I think if you're going to draft one now,
it actually maybe makes sense
if you really feel good about the guy to do it early.
So you don't necessarily have to pay on that big,
big second contract like the Rams have done with Todd Gurley,
unless he's proven himself to that point.
And you do feel like he's got another good three or four years
after his first four years.
So in the case of Sakel,
you know,
he demonstrated all that ability that you'd want to have out of running back now,
the ability to catch,
the ability to run,
the ability to do things even in the return game.
I think my question is there were times last year in college, he disappeared.
Yeah.
I mean, there was a string of games, Indiana, Northwestern, couldn't touch 100 yards rushing.
You look at Ohio State and Michigan State, two of the better defenses in the Big Ten last year,
you know, did even get past 70 yards rushing in those matchups, Stephen Ruckers.
So there were times when he started to disappear in the middle of that season.
And granted, he still hurt teams in the passing game.
He still hurt teams returning to football.
But in the NFL, you know, teams are going to be ready.
for him. They're going to be game planning against them, finding ways to keep him in the backfield.
So he's going to have to be productive running the football. I'll say this, though, Colin,
one tendency he did have in college that I thought he showcased on that first run was in college,
he would have bounced that run all the way outside. He would have tried to outrun those two Cleveland
Brown defenders instead of putting his foot in the ground and cutting up north and south.
That to me, was progress from where he was in college, especially when he was in that scenario,
where he kind of had a lane but would utilize his speed more.
In this case, he put his foot in the ground, got north and south, got the big game.
That showed growth and progress, at least in his vision and his running south of college in the NFL so far.
Brady Quinn, good stuff. Sunday night, Fox Sports Radio.
Got to have you on more, bud, stop by the studio.
Any time you're around.
Love to have you on.
Yeah, I would love that.
Thanks for having you on call.
All right. Fox NFL analyst Brady Quinn.
Car shopping's confusing.
A lot of different terms out there.
Dealer price, list price, invoice.
Here's what's not confusing.
on average you can save 3 grand off MSRP if you go to truecar.com and check out the true price on true car.
Jay Glazer, too.
Jay was at that, I think Jay was at the Giants Browns game last night.
And it was fun.
I mean, I sat there and I watched two hours.
I've bounced around the league and watched two hours of preseason.
I hate to see the Niner players get hurt.
Hated that.
I was just, it made me angry.
Like, I like the Niners where they're going.
It's funny because you've just been saying this for the past two weeks, how silly it is.
and then they get six players injured.
Lord. Hour three next.
Hour number three, this is the herd.
Wherever you may be and however you may be listening live in Los Angeles,
Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, FS2 for the final hour.
I am taking next week off.
I am going to Canada with my lovely wife.
So Joy, this is our last day working together for a while.
you are doing some traveling too.
I'm not going to give locations away.
I'm not telling you people where in Canada I'm going.
It's a big place.
You know, it was right after our president started taking shots at Canada.
I thought, I want to be a good neighbor.
Let's go to Canada.
Oh, he inspired you?
I was inspired.
Trump inspired me to be nice to Canada.
So I'm going to go spend a bunch of money up in Canada for a week.
And I'm very excited.
Jay Glazer coming up at 15 minutes.
He was at the Browns Giants last night in New York.
We have a great best for last today.
Tom Brady is he sacrificing too much money in New England.
Baker Mayfield debuted last night.
My friend Joel Clatt even taking shots at me on Twitter saying,
I noticed the Browns played last night.
Anybody know how Baker played asking for my friend Colin Coward?
That despite Joel Clatt, despite what you saw,
I'm not going there yet with Baker.
Standards.
Being a number one pick is different.
You get paid a lot more.
the expectations or more.
There's 120 Division I football programs.
120.
Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma,
Oklahoma, Miami, Georgia, USC, Stanford.
All right football players.
And you're the number one pick.
I want my number one pick to be as gifted as Peyton Manning and John Elway.
And if he's not that good, I want him to be as big and strong as fast as Cam.
or I want him to be have an arm like Matt Stafford.
I want to watch him like Jared Goff.
That's what my number one should be.
If he can't be everything like John Elway who could run and throw,
you got to give me something that's a wow.
What would Baker Mayfield was a wow last night?
I've never said he's not an NFL quarterback.
I've never said he's a bust.
Where's the wow?
Okay.
11 for 20. Congratulations.
My standard for the number one pick in the NFL draft is,
hey, Colin, against guys who will work at supermarkets next week,
he made a really nice throw in the back of the end zone.
Folks, my problem isn't Baker Mayfield playing in the NFL.
My problem is the Cleveland Browns passed on Sam Darnold and Bradley Chubb,
the two best players in a league, an offensive star, a defensive star,
and drafted Baker Mayfield in a tiny corner talented but tiny at Ohio State.
hold your team to hire standards.
For a number one quarterback pick,
that is not an exceptional throw.
It's called Tuesday.
It's called Sunday.
It's a throw.
Okay, there's three things that jumped out to me with Baker Mayfield.
He looks small.
I don't want my number one quarterback to look small.
I don't want my number one pick in the draft at any position to look small.
Number two, he moved really well against second and third team defenders.
Okay, those guys, Von Miller, Terrell Suggs,
that containment is going to be way better.
That's a nice first down run like there.
That's that nice.
And number three, he had a three and out
when he faced the Giants' first team defense.
Those are my three takeaways.
He looks small.
I don't want my number one pick to look small regardless of position.
He moved well against the second team.
Containment will be way better in the regular season against starters.
And number three, he had a three and out against the Giants' first team defense.
By the way, you want to know the really good play?
by Cleveland, it was Tyrod Taylor, five for five against first team defense, had a pre-snap
read. That was an NFL throw. Came to the line, pre-snap adjustment, makes a throw,
there you go. Okay, Tyron Taylor, that's an NFL play. But you've got to have higher standard.
Ask yourself this. A few years ago, back in like six, seven years ago, Tristan Thompson was in a
draft. In that draft that Tristan Thompson was in, Clay Thompson was in, Campbell Walker was in,
Jimmy Butler was in, Kyrie Irving was in, Kauai Leonard was in. If Tristan Thompson would have gone
number one, would you be saying as a Cavs fan, well, he's become a pretty good starter?
I mean, he had nine rebounds last night. No, you'd say, Kyrie Irving was available. Coe Yenard was
available. Now, thankfully, that year, the Cavs got Kyrie. But if Tristan Thompson, who is not a number
one pick, he's an NBA player, there have been nights he's a good NBA player, and there have
been series that he's completely over his skis. But Cleveland went 4 and 0 last year in the
preseason. Johnny Mansell had a really good preseason game. Deshaun Kaiser was 11 for 18 in his
first preseason game. Come on, man, what's your standard? Cleveland went 4 and 0 in the preseason.
season. The next 16 weeks, they went, oh, for the season. What's your standard? He's a number one
pick. I want you to be as good as Elway or Peyton Manning. And if you can't, I want you as big and
strong as Cam. And I criticize Cam. You watch Cam Newton, size body running. There are moments
with Cam. He is everything. Everything you want in a number one pick. Now, I don't like his inconsistency.
Cam's all over the map. And I think he has to grow up. And I'm not sure if I'm ever going to get grown
up Cam. I saw something yesterday I don't love.
But you watch Cam and you're like, oh, hell,
yeah, that's a number one pick.
Matt Stafford drives me crazy. I watch
Matt Stafford make throws and I'm like, oh yeah, that's a number
one quarterback pick. I'm not saying you have to be
the best quarterback in the league, but Matt
Stafford makes wow throws. Cam
makes wow throws. There's no wow
there. That's stuff.
Best throw in the night was by Tyrod Taylor.
That's just stuff.
Gotta have higher standards.
Colin.
He looked to Sean Kaiser last year pre-season week one, 11 for 18, touchdown, 11-14 passer rating.
Was I jumping for joy with that one?
Was I?
So why should I with this one?
This one's a number one pick in the draft.
My standards and expectations are even higher.
Let me shift to this.
Andrew Luck looked really good.
Yum.
He looked like he looked like he.
He always looks when he's healthy.
Really, really good.
Last night, 12 play drive, 9 play drive.
You do realize Andrew Luck is hoping to be Aerosmith.
Aerosmith did this.
Aerosmith came out and you're like, wow in the 70s.
That is unbelievable talent.
That is all-time stuff.
And then Aerosmith got into drugs and had problems and had bad album and they were a mess.
And you're like, ooh.
And then Aerosmith came back, cleaned up, got healthy.
Somebody else wrote some songs, run DMC, and you're like, oh, hell yeah,
Aerosmith is good.
Yeah, never forget how good Aerosmith was once they were healthy.
His second career was a lacerated kidney,
major shoulder injury,
and getting the living you know what kicked out of him
because his general manager left him with no players.
He is hoping to do an aerosmith.
remember me when I was healthy?
This is now embarking on his third career.
He came into the league and was a monster
with the worst offensive line in the league
and arguably the least talented running backs.
And he was 11 and 5, 11 and 5, 11 and 5,
three playoffs, 2014 led the NFL with 40 touchdowns.
AFC championship game.
Tom Brady could not have taken.
in that offensive line to the AFC championship game.
We are looking at the recovery stage for Andrew Luck,
and do not forget how absolutely awesome he was.
He was on his way to being all-time.
stuff. Hopefully, like Errol Smith, he can do it again.
Jay Glazers is around the corner. He was in New York last night for the Giants and the Browns.
At Lowe's, save 5% on every purchase every day when you use your Lowe's business credit account.
That's 5% on all purchases in store or online subject to credit approval.
US only. Jay Glazer is doing his annual training camp tour. Last week, our Fox NFL Insider was at
the Rams, the Cowboys, the Browns, the Eagles, and the Steelers.
And Jay Glazer is joining us now from New York.
What was the most impressive camp, Jay, last week that you stepped foot into?
To the Steelers, I think it's a different atmosphere this year, too.
You train, by the way, Baker Mayfield.
And I've heard he's a gamer.
What did you make him the guy?
It's Mr. Marshall.
Last year from the start, it's different.
It's different than the rest of the world.
It's scary.
And I sent in guys, those guys are, those are some bad SOBs.
Man, I'm in.
Like, it wasn't like, and it was his first day, he was intimidated, he walked right.
You know, some of these, I haven't seen something like that.
When Jay Glazer is joining us, yeah, I'm going to wait to see it.
Deshaun Kaiser had a great opening game last year.
And with the Browns, I just kind of, I just, I'm one of those, I'm on hold.
I got to wait to see it because they were four in O last year in the preseason.
Now, the Dallas camp is.
But remember, I'm not talking about.
Yeah.
A lot of guys come in, and they think, hey, I would not be the success.
When you get to this level, it's a completely different game than college.
The way your work ethic is, the way you spend your day, you do not have to account for all 24 hours.
Nobody telling you what to do, like, and better than everybody else.
You know, the Rams were really good last year, and they got some young players, but they bring in Domenu, Akie Tlip to lead, Marcus Peters.
Andy Reid's a pretty tolerant guy.
He couldn't take it anymore.
So he gave away basically a $1.7 million corner who's as good as anybody in the league.
He gave them away.
And I look at the Rams and the coach is still young.
Jared Gough is still young.
Early still young.
I mean, what do you make of the can't?
What do you make of what they did?
Does it all fit?
Couldn't do anymore.
The Rams, they followed through.
The Rams looked at it.
The other 90% of your time on 10% of your roster.
And, you know, with those personalities in there,
spent an awful lot of time on them that that that locker room will be able to police it.
You were also at the Cowboys Camp, which was kind of a little bit chaotic last year,
and now does it feel like you, it is more?
Dak Prescott's room?
It's his team.
They're never under the radio.
Receivers who are our parents.
Yeah.
Even with the Des thing that.
Something like that in the past, here it just moved on.
It was done the next day.
I think both of you, both of us like Chris Ballard, the GM, and,
Listen, in the draft, he went and fixed that offensive line, the interior of the offensive.
Oh, did he ever?
Yeah.
He got really good.
That is a bad man right there.
Yeah.
And so I watched Andrew Luck last night, and I, Brady Quinn said earlier, he didn't
quite on the deep stuff quite have the zip.
I'm not going to make that call.
But give me a sense of the anxiety they dealt with for the last 15 to 18 months.
What are they, you know, are they nervous when they wake up today?
Are they thinking, God, is Andrew Luck sore?
we've got to keep him to 65 practice throws.
What's going on with them right now?
Yeah, I wish to rebound now.
And I think for Andrew, too, he hit a point where he said,
okay, that's it, no more.
I'm now going to start working.
I think he just got frustrated also.
But yeah, considering what they've been through,
with his shoulder, with his sternum,
with the elbow, with the tricep, you're horrified.
You know the Baltimore people real well.
You know, I've always called Lamar Jackson more of a project.
than a prospect.
I mean, to me,
Josh Rosen's a prospect.
He can play this year.
You know, I think with Lamar sometimes,
let's not rush him.
Like, he's raw to me.
I do think potentially, with a running game and the right support,
he can work.
But some guys take longer in every industry to get there.
What do you make?
No, I don't think they're rushing them.
I think what happens is, look,
and they play, and people automatically assume,
oh, my gosh, this guy got this amount of reps,
and that guy got this.
Joe Flacko is the quarterback.
We're going to try and show certain things in camp to get film on them.
So defensive coordinators, prepare for that when they play them.
Try to get him more reps as they go.
The second most valuable position on that team.
We saw with Cowboys when, you know, Dax rookie year.
They've got to make sure that they have a, yeah, it's not, I don't think they're looking at Lamar.
I think the rest of the world got really excited because of who he is in his pedigree.
Yeah, it's not.
So you're heading to the Falcons.
I've got them in the NFC championship.
You do.
Tell me why.
Because I think their offensive line now, everybody talks about the Cowboys and the Eagles,
but the Falcons and the Saints have developed really nice offensive line.
I think Sarks in his second year.
This organization, I got a coach I like, a GM I like, a quarterback I like, an offensive line I like.
And I got to tell you something.
Last year, they came within a play, Jay.
a Julio Jones corner play of beating Philly on the road,
and they would have faced Minnesota,
and Minnesota was coming off that win over New Orleans.
I think if they win the Philly game,
which they were a play away.
By the way, that Philly offense steamrolled Minnesota and New England.
They didn't move the ball up and down the field on Atlanta.
I like the Falcons this year.
Even though they're going to say, hey, we're not talking about it anymore.
You don't decide.
The world decides when they stop talking about it.
I think it would do what happened with them
just didn't seem like they're in real
Alkins. But I do, I think it was Dan Quinn's.
He played a better psychologist last year
than any psychologist I've ever been to in my life.
And Colin, you know me. I got about 19-person purpose.
Yes. He did a great job.
He did. I really like Atlanta.
People down in the South think I don't like Atlanta,
but I just feel like it's coming all together this year.
And I really think in their own division,
we're all caught up in the Saints Young Stars
and Cam's always interesting and the James' suspension.
even in their own division.
They're a little bit under the radar.
I really like him.
And Jay Glazer, keep going.
Love to have you on the show.
He's at the Giants, Falcon Saints.
Texans, have a lot of fun, bud.
Thank you, brother.
Appreciate it, man.
Always love coming on.
You bet.

Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no, no, turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So we both sort of feel like the New York Knicks are going to be the hotspot free agency next year.
We've talked about it a lot.
And a month ago, there was some rumors circulating that Nick's owner, James Dolan, was preparing to sell the franchise.
However, during an interview, the king of self-awareness made it clear that there's no such move that would materialize in the near future.
Cyclism.
What's going on with the Knicks and the Rangers?
Yeah, well, they're not playing.
And season doesn't start for a couple months.
I know, but there's rumors that you're thinking of selling.
No, we're not going to sell it.
You're not going to sell?
Okay.
Where does rumors start?
Not for me.
I think that would inspire another song.
No, no.
I should have sold them.
I should have sold them.
All right, you know, you're going to make a lot of press with that.
Yeah, no more songs.
No more, James Dolan.
Yeah, so if you were hoping that that was going to happen,
it was such a...
Keep wishing on a star.
What show was that, by the way?
That was Fox...
Fox something, Fox 5, New York, yeah.
Fox 5, New York. Good day, New York.
Good day, New York. Wasn't that great of a day for next fans after he said that?
Let's say that.
I'm just going to leave that story there.
All right.
So, LeBron is promoting a new animated film that's coming out next month called Smallfoot.
A new one.
in which he voices a Yeti.
All right.
So, uh, let's see the promo video of this.
Is that you?
He go.
Uh, maybe you are going crazy.
No wonder.
No one believes you.
We believe you.
You know what?
We got to bring this truth to the village.
Blow some tiny minds.
Mm-hmm.
I like voiceover work is fun.
It is, yes.
Voiceover work is the, is the wave, actually.
He is the next Gene Hackman.
He is a tremendous.
Kids movies.
I play.
I did play a blimp. I did play a blimp. I was a blimp. Yeah, I was in a, it was called Cars 2.
Yeah, Cars 2. You were in Cars 2? I was in Cars 2. I'm a blimp. That's so fun. Yeah.
This movie also has Zendaya, James Corden, Channing Tatum, Common, and Danny DeVito. So it's going to be a big movie. Does your son like movies like this? Do you go see these?
Oh, absolutely. Yeah. So everyone's going to see it. I mean, it's going to be a big movie. It's an animated film. Everyone loves those. So you know have a problem with this one?
I'm going to take a wild guess and said this was done before he came to the latest.
Lakers.
Yeah, I just, I want to know what network he's also working with today.
He's got doing voice work.
Maybe he's building his own network.
Well, Oprah did it.
Oprah, but she's a broadcaster.
I love Oprah.
All right.
So finally, the Arizona Cardinals are taking game day food to a new level with an artery-clogging gridiron burger.
$75, seven pounds, partially fried.
There you go.
There's a good little shot of it.
meat filled, cheese-laced.
Anyone who finishes this seven-pound burger
and under an hour wins a jersey
and they get their photo on the video board.
So it's five burger patties, eight chicken tenders,
eight slices of bacon, five hot dogs,
five brats, 12 ounces of fries,
20 pieces of American cheese,
pickles, tanker sauce, and a 10-inch bun.
Hasn't America gotten over these sort of things?
We clearly have not.
Yeah, it's 8,000 calories.
Someone did the math on it.
So it's very close.
We played the 9,000 calorie game the other day.
You and I might have lost this one.
For a jersey.
Would you have guessed that this is almost 9,000 calories?
Or would you have guessed that it's 9,000 calories?
No, I would guess way under 9,000.
Would you trade an angiogram for a jersey?
I mean, honestly, I'm not joking.
My heart would, and I jogged yesterday.
I'm a jogger.
I mean, you'd never be able to finish it.
Oh, God.
Just kidding.
I mean, for a jersey.
Who's that desperate?
They're probably going to try and do it for fun, but regrettably.
That is a dumb guy contest right there.
Like a good idea.
Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lye News.
By the way, I was watching these games last night, and I told the guys, I said, I forgot
my NFL.
I make predictions every July.
And then I bring back my predictions.
So I'll, I will, at the end of the show, I want to go
look back at my predictions. I do want to look at the, here's the games tonight in the NFL
preseason. And I do, I think Green Bay in Atlanta play for the NFC championship. I think
Pittsburgh plays for the AFC championship and I'm not ready to go to who they play. I've got to
watch the games. Atlanta's at the Jets tonight. This will, Sam Darnold will play. Detroit
at Oakland, the John Gruden dumpster fire will begin. And then tomorrow I get
Vikings at Denver Chargers at Arizona, so I get to watch Josh Rosen.
Tonight, though, I get Sam Darnold.
And this is going to be as much fun as I can have.
You're having a viewing party at your house?
I'm not.
I'm just, I'm going to sit there and I'm going to have a Corona or something or a Stella,
and I'm just going to sit and watch.
He's probably going to have three series.
I still contend that the rumor that came out yesterday, which I thought was smart,
is the Teddy Bridgewater move, which is go get a number two pick for Teddy Bridgewater.
and draft an offensive lineman because the Jets offensive line is not good.
And, you know, to be honest, Cleveland's isn't great with Baker.
Baltimore's is actually pretty good.
Arizona's is pretty unathletic.
Darnal doesn't have much to work with.
Buffaloes is okay, not great.
So most of these young quarterbacks had come in.
By the way, Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City, that offensive line was pretty feeble last night.
So he was running around.
It looks like to me, Lamar Jackson, Baltimore's offensive line,
to know where it's ranked on pro football focus, which doesn't have to be exact, but I kind of
lean to them on offensive lines. Baltimore looks to be okay. It looks to be okay. Coming up,
what Tom Brady has in common with one of the most ridiculed players in all of sports, that is
next and best for last. We're all for good sportsmanship. That's why we're huge fans of Hyundai's

Welcome back.
You know, I'm not saying it's societally right, but guys tend to be judged unfairly by their professional success,
and often women are judged by their physical prowess.
And that's just society works that way.
It doesn't make it right.
Could be very wrong.
It's not good for anybody's psychological.
But it is interesting when you think about Tom Brady's salary that people say, well,
his wife is rich.
I'm not disputing that.
But as a guy, your wife's net worth doesn't play well with guys.
They don't care.
Like, are you a player or you are not?
And kind of with that, I'm going to start today's best for last.
After almost three hours, Colin apparently hasn't gotten to the point yet.
Quit holding out on us, cowherd.
It's the best for last.
I was just looking.
Everybody always says, okay, Tom Brady's wife's rich, who cares what he makes.
But it is pretty absurd if you put it in the context of what's he make compared to other professional athletes.
So let's look at the quarterback salaries for the upcoming season.
And I don't think most of you are, Jimmy Garoppolo is going to be the highest paid quarterback at 42.5 million.
He's Tom Brady's backup six months ago.
Alex Smith, who on his best day is not Tom Brady, makes 40 million.
Matt Ryan's damn good.
He'll make 29 and a half million.
And Drew Bree's 27 million, a little underpaid.
I'm not against anybody making any money.
But let's scroll down now and look at where Tom Brady figures in the NFL's hierarchy of quarterback salaries.
And if you scroll down here, you find out that Tom Brady is barely making more than Josh Allen of the Buffalo
Bills, who's going to make 136, and in fact, 13-965, and Brady makes 15.
Makes less than Philip Rivers.
It's pretty remarkable, right?
But I know, I know what you're saying.
Colin, his wife is a supermodel.
But does Tom Brady, when you look at annual salary compensation, and he's making 15,
and Garoppolo is making almost three times more, and Alex Smith is making,
two and a half times more, does it not bother him at some level?
He's a guy.
We're judged by professional careers, net worth, blah, blah, blah.
In fact, if you kind of look comparatively where Tom fits in the NFL, he's making basically
the same amount of money as Sam Bradford and Tyrod Taylor.
Now, again, this is why I've always said.
I understand Tom not wanting to be the highest paid player, but I think he's taking a greater
sacrifice than people expect.
If my wife was rich,
maybe I wouldn't have to be the highest paid sportscaster,
but I'd want to be making significantly more than the overnight guy on ESPN
radio.
That's essentially what Brady's getting paid like.
Put this in another context.
Let's compare him to the NBA.
Tom Brady in the NBA would rank behind Damari Carroll and Timofay Mosgoff
and Brady's salary would be tied for the 76 highest in the NBA.
I'm not saying he has to be the highest paid guy.
He's not even the average paid guy, NBA or NFL.
So I do think it is more substantial than people say.
That's our best for last today.
Put it in that context.
First of all, Alex Smith has a great agent.
I like Alex Smith.
40 million for Alex Smith is a lot of money.
That is a, look at what Alex Smith will make in the NFC East 40 million and what
Dak Prescott makes for the Cowboys, a bigger brand.
What does Dak make this year?
Is he still making about a million bucks a year?
I'm not even sure if he makes a million dollars a year.
So I was saying is, as I was watching the games last night, I was thinking,
God, I got to go back to my NFL predictions because I do this.
I'm a loud joy.
You've never been on the show when I do this.
this. I'm allowed to make tweaks based on significant injuries. If there's a significant quarterback
go down, I can come in and change stuff. That's the rule. And then I get like just one overall
tweak before the season. Like if I see a team and I think, you know what, it's working. So let's go
back to my NFL predictions. NFC North. Packers win it. They've solved their number one
issue. Cornerback last two drafts. Vikings are still playoff viable. They go back. And
with a new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator.
Lions of the Lions, Bears of the Bears, both sub-500.
Now, let's go to the AFC North,
where I think the Steelers will be the number one seed in the AFC this year at 12 and 4.
Ironically, Jake Laser said of all the camps he's been at,
they have been the cleanest, sharpest camp.
I think the Ravens are going to hover around 500.
I do think in November, you're going to hear a call for Lamar Jackson to play,
and I think it's going to be disruptive.
and I still think they're going to be offensively pretty spotty.
I think Cleveland and the Bengals are both 6 and 10,
but I think Cleveland's going to feel like a really positive, optimistic 6 and 10.
The Bengals will feel like it's time to replace Marvin Lewis 6 and 10.
Then AFC East, I do have the Patriots winning,
but I have them pulling back to 10 wins.
They're rebuilding the offensive line.
They have a third level receiving core.
They still only have one elite player in the front 7,
Dante Hightower coming off an injury.
Now, I have the Jets at 8 and 8 and the Dolphins at 7 and 9.
I think the Dolphins have better players.
My issue with the Dolphins is all their tough out-of-division games are on the road,
and all the Jets tough out-of-division games are at home.
And I think Todd Bowles last year, they played their ass off.
I mean, they were not a great football team last year.
The Jets showed up every Sunday and went toe-to-to-to-at team.
Should have beat New England and got a bad call, go against him.
Bill's 5 and 11, because I don't know who they're,
quarterback is. In the NFC East, Philadelphia is the best roster, and I think they have, when
Wentz is back, easily the best quarterback. I think the Giants and the Cowboys battle around 500.
I like Dallas to schedule a little more, and I still think Dak's a better player right now than
Eli Manning. Washington just lost. John, you just told me this. A rookie running back out of LSU,
Geis, Torres A.C.L. Darius Geis out for the year. So he was second round pick. He was going to be
big player for them. So the Redskins were injury riddle last year. Sadly, here we go again.
That's brutal. I've never seen a team as beat up as the Redskins last year.
They came out to Los Angeles and beat the Rams and going to Seattle and beat Seattle.
And about halfway through the year, you were like, oh boy, here they go. And they fell apart.
Offensive line fell apart. Then I went AFC West. Chargers have the best roster along with Kansas City.
The difference is I get Philip Rivers, who's going to be a borderline Hall of Famer.
And Patrick Mahomes, I don't know what he is. Denver, Case Keenham.
Keenham had a perfect setting last year.
Best coordinator, great defense, good field position, star receivers.
Denver's not the same franchise.
Tough schedule, seven and nine.
Raiders may be a team I tweak.
I'm going to watch them tonight.
I may be underserving them a little at 5 and 11.
They do have Derek Carr.
They do have Derek Carr in a good old mind.
Is it that or are you a little nervous about what you saw from Patrick Mahomes last night?
Listen, they could still be six.
and 10 and 7 and 9 in a dumpster fire?
Why does a dumpster fire have to be 5 and 11?
You're saying the dumpster might not be as dry and flammable as you originally have thought?
Exactly. In the NFC West, this one feels like everybody's picking pretty much this.
Rams win it. They just have better players.
I don't think they're significantly better than last year because I think the locker room is going to be dicey.
They now have a first place schedule.
I'm a little higher on the Niners than everybody else and a little lower on Seattle.
is on everybody else.
I like Garoppolo, and I like
his head coach. And I do think
they actually did a nice job. McKinnan the running
back. I kind of,
I think they've done a pretty good job. They went and got Dante
Pettus, very good college wide receiver
who will play. Smart kid will play early, make 65
catches. Seattle just doesn't feel like it's an
optimistic vibe right now at 7 to 9.
Then I went AFC South.
Sorry, Jaguars.
Andrew Luck's back. DeShon Watson's back. And you're going to go back to your
rightful place hovering around 500. I never trust the Titans. I have them at 6 and 10.
I think the Texans win the division because I think they have the best personnel in the
division outside of Jacksonville, and I really like to Sean Watson. I am much higher on the Colts
than Vegas. Vegas has them at like six wins. I actually think now, actually, I think their
offensive line is solved mostly. It's not horrible anymore. And I think their defensive front's
got some players. I think their defensive fronts a little better than people give it credit for,
and they're playing a bad schedule, a very workable schedule.
And finally, the NFC South, could be football's best division.
I have Atlanta going to the NFC championship.
I think they're a little under the radar.
Their offensive line now is the top five offensive line.
They got the quarterback.
They got the coordinator Sark in the second year.
I like their coach, good ownership, good GM, got a pass rusher.
I think, you know, when you go to last year,
they went to Los Angeles and beat the Red Hot Rams in a playoff game.
And then went to Philadelphia and came within one play,
a Julio Jones jump ball from beating the Eagles in Philadelphia.
And they stymied that Philadelphia offense,
which tore up the Great Biking defense and tore up the Patriots.
So I've got to be honest with you.
I think Atlanta's really good.
I have the Saints at 10 and 6.
This is not a shot at Cam.
Carolina, in their first 11 weeks,
plays nine elite quarterbacks.
Then they play Eli and James.
Carolina, that schedule, they got to play Breeze twice.
They got to play, I think they play, well, they play Matt Ryan twice.
I went and looked at her schedule.
First 11 weeks before they're by, they get no breaks.
They get no breaks.
A lot of tough roadies and a lot of really good quarterbacks.
Eight and eight, Tampa Bay is a mess.
By the way, live from the Dallas Cowboys Camp, Peter King will be joining us on a Monday.
What did you make a Cam Newton's confrontation before the game yesterday?
What did you make of that, Joey?
I didn't have a problem with it.
I mean, maybe there was a better place to do it so that all the cameras couldn't see.
It didn't bother you.
No, it wasn't going to ever turn into an actual fight.
No.
And I don't think Cam is wrong for confronting him.
You like confrontation.
No, but if Calvin Benjamin is going to say what he said publicly,
then he should be prepared to publicly see Cam Newton.
and there was Cam.
Cam walks over.
Cam, to his credit, does put his hand out.
I don't want my quarterback doing that.
Cam comes over there with his handout and then tells Thomas Davis.
Yeah, Calvin didn't want to shake his hand.
So Cam actually was trying to be the bigger man.
He tried to shake Calvin's hand and he didn't do it.
So I have no problem with the confrontation.
Sometimes you just have to go see somebody.
If what Kelvin said was private and it got leaked out or reported or something,
then it would be a different situation.
But Cam has every right to go up and ask him to.
his face what his problem is.
Very confrontational.
