Episode Date: October 3, 2023

Philadelphia Eagles CB Darius Slay breaks down the Eagles’ Week 4 win over the Washington Commanders. Slay explains his incredible level of confidence in Eagles placekicker Jake Elliott as he lined ...up for his 54-yard game-winning kick, and why it was no surprise that WR A.J. Brown was “randomly” drug tested by the NFL after his world class performance during Sunday’s game. Starting point is 00:00:00 Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:00:47 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the I-Hard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me.
Starting point is 00:01:06 Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfills of conversations with athletes,
Starting point is 00:01:20 creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Cliford Show on the IHeard Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast, And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok podcast network on TikTok. The volume.
Starting point is 00:01:45 What's up, everybody, man? This is your boy, Big Play Slay, and I'm back, man. Here fresh off a great dub, hard fog, duh. But we got the dud, man. It was only great because I got to see a lot of my health state guys. Mississippi, man, one thing I know, Eagles and the Washington commanders, they got a lot of guys from Mississippi State, man. And the guy that drafted me, he's almost like the GM over there, too, over there in Washington.
Starting point is 00:02:10 You know, so he do love Mississippi State guys. So it's like a Mississippi State alumina game for us. You know, we just had to hang together and all that kind of great stuff. Got a new young pup over there, man, fords, playing corner. So it was great to see these guys, man. That's one thing. But let's get into the week, man. The week was short for us.
Starting point is 00:02:26 It was very short, man. We played Monday night. Had to come in Tuesday a little bit to get your body ride, get your film. And Wednesday had to have a walkthrough. So we even get the full preparation. of really getting it in, you know what I'm saying? So we had to be professionals. We were 8 and no last year.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Of course, we knew these guys in our winning street. So we couldn't let them do it again in our house. So we had to come out here, Dominique. That was a message we wanted to send to the group, even though last year team is last year team. But we don't forget that now because we was on a high raise and them guys came in here and played a hall fart game last year. And they came to play a hard fault game this year, man.
Starting point is 00:02:59 I think the game was close because the quarterback play. Sam Howard played a great game. Man, I'm talking about control the clock. did what he had to do with his legs, made plays down the field. He was just playing an excellent man. You got to give him credit when credit it is due. And you got to get props to EB.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Great offense, and a very, very great game planner. So you got to get his top of your hat off to him, man. He did a great job, man. One thing I could tell y'all, division games, they tough. It don't matter what the record is. I'm telling you, it do not matter
Starting point is 00:03:30 because guys play hard when it's the division game because you got to see these guys twice. So it means something. People think it's easy. People think you just beat any team high. I could go, no, it don't work like that. Anybody can be beat in the lead. And that's why it's the NFL.
Starting point is 00:03:44 This is the first game that we went into halftime, not up. So that tells y'all right then we did not start fast as we wanted. The offense played an amazing game. But Jake Elliott, aka Jake the goat, man, look here, 54 yards, game winner on the line? I'm not going to lie of y'all. when I knew we was in Philgo range no matter how far it is.
Starting point is 00:04:07 If Jake go out there, I just knew he was going to make it. I just knew. I just started walking on, just walking up and down the side line and just, yeah, we good, man, we got the dub, y'all. We're good, we good.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Just daffin the teammates up and let's get this out of the way, man, we've got to come out here and make corrections. I was already ready for next week when Jake went out there because I truly believe in my guy. He's a captain of this team, captain of his special team. And I'm talking my 54-yard killer. Like, he killed it.
Starting point is 00:04:32 You know what I'm saying? Easy. So when Jake made a kick, of course, we ran onto the field, gave all the high fires he needed and all they deserved. When we got in the locker room, we went crazy, getting a lit for Jake, man, because Jake really did his name, man. That was a clutch overtime win in the division, being 1 in the division, sending a message to the league.
Starting point is 00:04:51 The Washington Commanders got a top five D-line in the league. I think so. You know, I'm thinking, like, they got a lot of talent on the guys. Got pain. They got sweat. They just got my guy back off his ACL, Chase Young. Like, they got guys up there. that can really go out there and get after it.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Eagles fans, I know y'all believe in the run, but we do got a quarterback that can throw that thing with two outstanding receivers, or a maze not tight-in. Like, it could go anyway. So it could be type of games that we run for a lot and don't pass for a lot. It could be a lot of games that we pass for a lot
Starting point is 00:05:24 and don't run a lot. So these are one of these types of games for my outs, for me looking outside in. That's why I think, but we still put up $100, are rushing, two for 300. So we got the job done. They scored 34 points. So the passing game was amazing.
Starting point is 00:05:39 As you can tell, my boy AJ finally sees the end zone. I've been on his behind every day telling him, I'm one up on you because I got the end zone before him. I had more touchdowns than him in three games. So I was just bragging in his face. He told me this week now. He told me,
Starting point is 00:05:55 I'm trying to tell y'all. He told me, Slay going to see me the end zone a lot this week. So I'm saying, I'm all right, man, you know what I said? I need to see you in that because, hey, you score a touchdown. That's all I know. AJ scored touchdown a thing. What?
Starting point is 00:06:08 He got on his sign in his locker. 11 is what? Always open. In this game, as you can tell, he was very open. I'm talking my open open. It was crazy. My man had an amazing game. I'm talking my double move after double move, hitches after hitches, breaking tackles.
Starting point is 00:06:29 See me on the go ball. Stutter goal. tub can't get no better than that that's why he's one of the best in the world to do it right now he'll continue to keep playing on this high level sky's the limit another all pro season coming he was unstoppable back to back game now onto my back to back but this week he got in the end zone twice he got to expect the random drug test after a gang like that because i remember me getting one like that i had one time i had two picks and one was a tub i'm like going crazy this is when i had my eight pick gear. Like I was going crazy, picking everything. So they ran a drug test me out of nowhere, like three
Starting point is 00:07:04 times after I had two pitch their game. So it was crazy. So I knew a drug test was coming for AJ. I mean, be honest, if you've seen AJ, I know y'all saw the picture with AJ and DK. They both look like they need to be drug tested every week. How slow them boys is. I'm talking about big boys slow, but hey, them boys are legal. They do their thing the right way. My boy, AJ, he lift weights. He clean. He is. He clean. He is. clean. But man, he got to expect that because, look, you put a drug test in numbers. So you get a drug test for you. That's what I call it. You put a drug test in numbers, you got a drug test. So with him getting that drug test, he's probably going to be the NLC player the week with getting
Starting point is 00:07:45 a drug test. I'm just throwing it out there. He might. I might be right. Because every time I got drug tested out there crazy game like that, I was NLC player a week. So I won't be surprised if he's an FC player the week. And we can't not just sit here forget about smitting. The same postball again. I'm talking about the same one. He did last year. He just did again this year. Big boy posting the two minutes.
Starting point is 00:08:09 It happened in the same predicament. Two minutes, taking a shot, Smitty come up with a big catch. They tried to challenge it, because I think Smitty gave them the little sign that's been going around. Everybody saw the little sign. We're not just going to hide.
Starting point is 00:08:21 Everybody saw the sign with San Frans last year when he did that, and it was an incomplete pass, really. But we got on the ball, height before they can, you know, challenge the play. I think Smitty gave the sign, and they made the coach challenges. So everybody know, I try to see him do it, but he still caught it. He's called it. It was a catch.
Starting point is 00:08:42 Big boy catch. I'm talking about he attacked the ball at the highest point. When I'm trying to tell y'all, Smitty got bunnies. Smitty can hoop. So if the ball is in the area, he got to jump, most likely he's going to jump over you. Man, look, you've seen it. It's on film. Smitty's that guy.
Starting point is 00:08:59 AJ's that guy. Them guys are just the best duo in the league right now. So enough about the offense. Let's get into this defense. Because we got a lot of stuff to fix. Got a lot of stuff to correct. Got to get together. We got to put the whole game in play.
Starting point is 00:09:12 We played great last week, but not this week. So we got to do it better this week. But amazing shout-out. Let me tell you, my boys. Nicholas Monroe. We just lift them up off the P's squad because I started linebackers down. He comes in the game.
Starting point is 00:09:28 10 tackles. Three sacks. The man has played amazing. I'm talking about he stepped up big time. We needed him to step up, man. He got the mic in his ear. He got a lot on his mind and a lot on his plate right now. And he came and delivered an amazing game.
Starting point is 00:09:44 Talking about 10 tackles, like I said, and three sacks. As a linebacker. And y'all know one thing we do is get out of that goddamn quarterback. And we got out of them. And we got out of them. And my boy got three. I'm talking about three. I'm happy for him.
Starting point is 00:09:56 Man, he played an amazing game. man, I ain't going to be surprised. He'll be the defensive player the week. Because, man, three sacks? I thought he was going to go for a record for a minute. But I saw the record, Claire Matt, you had to do your old team like that? Did you have to do your old team like that?
Starting point is 00:10:16 I'm talking about six on. Look here, you're a dog. You're going to stay a dog, continue to dog. That's how you remind a team not to trade a franchise player. But you let them know. You know, no, six of them. God, take you. Six.
Starting point is 00:10:31 That's a lot. That's a lot. But back to my guy, Morrow. Good job, man. Keep doing it. Keep doing your thing. We need you. The defense is waking up.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Because my boy, Hassan Reddick, got his first one. And once he gets going. He was happy to get his first sack. I told him on that drive. I told him. I said, Assan, this is the drive right now, bro. This is the drive you're going to make the big play right here. He did, got the sack, put the behind.
Starting point is 00:10:57 of change. Next play, we off the field. We was lit. I was happy for him because my man had been working hard every week and he'd been getting chipped every day, every Sunday, I mean, he's getting chipped every Sunday, getting double team. Nobody letting him rush for free. By the time he got the one-on-one matchup and he gets the sack. Now let's get into my matchup. This week I didn't travel as much. I ain't travel at all really doing the game. I stayed on my left side. I had a tackle a lot this week. I don't know why, but man, they was running the ball my way a lot, so I had to make a lot damn tackle. Ten of them, I'm on. That's a lot of tackling. Shoulders get the hurting, necks get the catching cramps, all that kind of crazy stuff. But man, look at him. I ain't never
Starting point is 00:11:44 had to tackle that much in so long. That was a big boy's tackles I had to make. I know y'all saw me hit the tight end. I know you seen me hit the running back. Some big time hits. So it took a toll on the body, but of course I'm going to bounce back. Get rid. right, get a massage, and get myself going. But the match up with me and Terry was always great, always good. Had a couple great catches, definitely on the first drive. He ran a slant. I was playing off a little bit.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Good catch with him, made a play other than that. That was really what we all in the action we really got. So I got to address the fans and the ones in his comments. I see the comments. I see all of. I read my tweets. I do it all. Y'all keep asking why we were.
Starting point is 00:12:25 is playing soft coverage. Maybe y'all bring y'all into the football world. So our offense go down there and go to score. We up seven. Right now, the defense got to play as in. Conceived this defense. We call it conceive. So we do not want these guys to go to score.
Starting point is 00:12:46 They had one timeout. So we're talking about bounds. They can use a timeout. Boom. Now they got no timeouts. If you press in a two-minute situation up seven, you are inviting a goal. ball. So you're inviting a one-on-one coverage at the end of the game when you're up seven.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Now, if we was up three, we got to challenge these guys because we don't want them to get the three points and force it to overtime. So that's why we'd be playing off. That's why we let the catches get the ball caught in front of us so we could go down and tackle and keep them in balance. Now, I can say one play, I did forget what the down the distance was. I think it was a fourth and two maybe or a third and two maybe. I think it was really fourth and two, to be honest. And I just really forgot. I thought they got the first down and so whatever.
Starting point is 00:13:37 I would just getting back and lined up, hurry up offense, getting a call for my guy, and lining up. But I probably could have pressed that blade and chance to get out the field and win the game again. But that's just me not knowing the down and distance. But overall, it's called two-minute offense. When you play too many offense, a lot of guys play off just so the big play doesn't have.
Starting point is 00:13:58 happen and a one-on-one does not happen and make it a big play. Make sure the ball is calling in front of us so we could tackle and we can waste time, like lay on them a little bit. Y'all seen it lay on people's technique. They just lay on them. Waste about three seconds, da-da-da-da, hop-up, move the ball a little bit sometime. Y'all, y'all, y'all know the tricks in the books. We just can't let the big play happen, so that's why we just playing off. But that's to get y'all some inside football talk. With all that being said, we are four and no. We're happy where we're at, but as a team we for sure got to get better. But everybody always asked me, Slay,
Starting point is 00:14:31 how you feel about being 4'0? I'd be like, it's great because it's a chance to go 5 and 0. That's the reason why we got the chance to go out there to be 5 and 0 against a great L.A. team, man. This team is not going to be easy to beat. As you can see, I don't read the news.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Cup might be returning. One of their big pieces on offense, man. So it's going to be a challenge for one of the best receivers in the league. Looking forward to the matchup, man. Sean McVeza. brilliant, brilliant guy, smart head coach, smart offensive-minded guy.
Starting point is 00:15:01 And this is your boy first time playing in the new stadium. So I'm looking forward to it. I heard it was nice, all the good lights, all that kind of great stuff going on. I'm looking forward to playing in it. Long trip to L.A. I think the trip about five hours, six hours, so you know your boy will get great sleep.
Starting point is 00:15:18 But on the way back, I don't know how good I'm going to sleep because I know I'm going to be sore. On a five-hour trip, we might need to stay tonight. I'm going to have to talk the coach about this. That might need to stay in night, recover, get the body wear, and don't hop on a plane. Soar as hell. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:16:03 I don't care what you're saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds.
Starting point is 00:17:09 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reed. I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
Starting point is 00:17:31 because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nass would get that thing.
Starting point is 00:17:49 That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball like, after you go through a training camp with that I said, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Starting point is 00:18:05 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Okay, football season is finally here. And here's one thing every fan should know. You can get anything you need for a game day delivered with Uber Ease. Well, almost, almost anything, because no, you can't get your dream running back. for your fantasy team delivered with Uber Eats. But flapjaps, baby back ribs, and a cold six-pack, yeah, you can definitely get that great
Starting point is 00:18:31 pass protection. That's a no. Great pizza selection from your favorite place? Yes. Championship defense? No. Deodorant? Yep.
Starting point is 00:18:42 A well-executed fake punt? No. Delicious fresh produce? Yes. Gang clenching turnovers? No. But pastry turnovers? You know.
Starting point is 00:18:51 the kind with the delicious apple filling? Oh yeah, because that's groceries. And get those delivered with Uber Eats too, along with food from your favorite restaurant and other essentials. And the best part, you can get it all without missing a single second of the action on your TV. So this football season,
Starting point is 00:19:10 stay planning on your couch and get anything, well, almost, almost anything you need for game day by order on the Uber Eats app, Uber Eats, official on-demand delivery partner. of the NFL order now. Alcohol is select markets. Product availability may vary by region.
Starting point is 00:19:28 See app for details. Before we go, y'all know I got to answer questions. So I got three on for y'all today. The first one is, since I named Jalen Carter, Baby Rino, what is Jordan Davis nickname?
Starting point is 00:19:44 Hmm, that's a good question, though. I like that question. So I would think I would call him baby elephant because an elephant is kind of bigger than a rhino when they get growner. So Jordan Davis, you baby elephant now. Every guy I give a nickname to, they have to sign it.
Starting point is 00:20:01 I'm talking about Swole Batman, Skinny Batman, Fast Batman. They all put that on a signature right now. Baby rhino. Y'all see it. My nicknames are golden. So baby elephant, a.k.a. Jordan Davis, be on a lookout because you're up next. Question two.
Starting point is 00:20:20 Do I think Travis Hunter can play both sides of the ball in the NFL? I would say, yes, it's possible because he's very, very talented. But he's going to be a starting DB and a star in this league in the future. So I would stick to DB. But with him being with prime, I would not be, it would not shock me. It wouldn't shock me to see him jumping off the ball. just a little bit, maybe getting about two or three plays. I got some offensive plays before,
Starting point is 00:20:54 so I can see him getting into it too as well because he been doing it in college. So I ain't doing too much in college at all. He gets 50 reps at receiver. So I probably got one or two reps in receiver in college. And I got two or three reps in the NFL. And what happened with me when I got reps on offense? Sometimes I was a decoy because I was a fast guy.
Starting point is 00:21:14 And I got a couple of plays I really got loose on. I'm going to have to show you all the clips. If y'all can find them clips, pull them up. your boy get a little actor when the ball getting in his hands. So y'all check me out. Y'all don't see me score before. I scored tubs. And the third question, if I wasn't a professional football player,
Starting point is 00:21:29 what other professional sports I'd be playing right now? Hmm. This is tough. This is tough. Because I was fast. I can hoop. I played a little bit of soccer. I got a lot of choices right now.
Starting point is 00:21:43 So, but my main choice is going to probably be basketball because I really started off a basketball lover. and then grew into football because I was faster than everybody, nobody couldn't catch me. So that would make me play football. But I think if I went playing football, I'd have been locked down way more on basketball
Starting point is 00:21:59 and took it way more serious. And let's see why I would have ended up at. Well, those are three questions I got for y'all today, man. Thank y'all for the questions, man. I'm going to continue to keep answers to them questions, man, because I appreciate y'all and I appreciate y'all watching me. But I would see y'all after the Rams game. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guide,
Starting point is 00:22:25 Not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, S&L's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,

Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Starting point is 00:23:10 Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
