All right, so we go almost all weekend without getting into a fight, and you, in the car ride to the airport,

nearly get into a scrap with the Uber driver. Was that necessary? I hate Raider fans. I'm not a fan. I'm not a fan of the Raiders. I grew up in Los Angeles. I ran too many Raider fans, and I never met one that I would want to watch a football game with.

And he was a big Raider fan, and we were talking about Allegiance Stadium, and I just had to let him know how I feel. It's come from East L.A. hates the Raiders. All right. Sergio Amora is here. We are sitting in the airport in Las Vegas. flight was delayed, so we're just going to knock this out right here and right now. Canelo Alvarez continues his reign as the undisputed super middleweight champion, defeating Jaime Mungia

by unanimous decision. You know, a lot to unpack here, Sergio. But let's start with the performance of Canello. I think everybody wondered coming in, what version of Canello were we going to get? Would we get the all-time great that kind of stormed his way through multiple divisions between 2018 and 2021. Would we get the somewhat diminished version that we've seen over the last couple of years? What did you think of what you saw from Canelo? Well, he's still a top fighter. He still is a very dangerous fighter.

But if you notice, you know, at 168, he's a small super middleweight. Hyman McGill was way bigger than him, way bigger than him. So David Benavides is going to be way big. bigger than him too. So he hasn't knocked anyone out in what the past five, five, six fights, the Afghan unit? Not since the Caleb Plant fight in, I believe, end of 20 to 21. And that's been like five fights ago. And he did that in the 11th round. So he was having his hands full there too. So what I thought of his performance was, of course, Canelo's still a top, top fighter. I think he took his foot off the gas, though. I think he could have stopped Mungia. I think he could have stopped Mungia.

I'm not saying he carried him. I'm just saying he was in there with a big strong fighter that he had to respect. But when he had him down with that uppercut, I think he could have closed the show. Well, let's address that. Well, the uppercut, I don't think he could have stopped him. I thought Mungia recovered enough to continue on. It was in the 12th round that Conello landed. I think it was a big left hook that wobbled Mungi.

And I thought Canello kind of let it go. I thought Connella made a decision in that moment. You know, it's like, you know what, this guy is going to see the final bell. You know, Bud Crawford is the one that tweeted out. Canello carried him. I don't agree with that, but I do think there was a moment in the 12th where Canelo could have finished him and he decided not to. No, not only that, but there was moments where he hit Mungia to the body and Mungia didn't, he didn't react like, like he didn't react like I'm going to go for the kill, Conello, like he normally does.

He's a vicious body puncher. He didn't go enough to the body personally. I think Canello, you know, like I said, he had to respect Mungi. and his trainer, Eddie Raynoso in the corner, even in the final round, was time, you know, you got to be careful with this kid. You got to be careful, you know, don't go for it. So I think it was not that he carried him, but it was planned not to take too many chances

because they had to respect Mungia's size. He was way bigger, way stronger. And I got to give you credit. Chris Mennik's, Canelo has the better chin. Where do you think this fight got away from Mungia? Because if you look at the first three rounds, I thought Mungia came out with an excellent game plan. He knew the jab was going to be an important weapon.

He was throwing it at a really high rate. I thought he won two of the first three rounds and was in the fight right up until that knockdown. Where did things kind of go wrong from Mungia? It was before the knockdown. It was already going in another direction because Mungia, and I think I said this on telecast, I haven't watched the bad book. You are what you are. You're going to go back to what you are.

Mungia is a fighter. He tried implementing a great game plan that, first, Redy Roach told him to follow and he did that for three rounds. But as soon as anything starts going wrong, the going gets tough or whatever, the old Mungia comes back. That's why whatever trainer he has is not going to change him for 12 rounds. They're going to change him for half a fight. And then once he got knocked out, knocked down, I'm sorry, that's when, you know, Mungia had

to, he had to resort to who he was and just his size and his youth got. Adam passed the danger zone. But yeah, he's going to be who he is. Still an exciting fighter, and I think his stock rose. I mean, Mugia's stock rose with his performance. No, I agree with that completely. I thought after that knocked down the fourth round that he was lunch meet. I mean, you and I had been arguing all week long about who had the better chin.

When he got knocked down, I pulled out my laptop and typed in all caps, chin across the cross there. So you could see it while the fight was going on. while Mungia was getting up. But to his credit, he got up, and he took some pretty hellacious shots. You look at some of the copy box numbers. I mean, Canelo's accuracy was incredible. He was plus 40% in terms of overall connects, around 50% when it comes to power punches.

And then, you know, in the 12th round, like, he just landed some big shots. I mean, I give Mungia credit. Like, I've seen him hurt by so many lesser punchers, you know, coming into this fight to see him stand up for 12 rounds. rounds against Canelo. That was pretty impressive to me. Yeah, and I think he made a lot of fans. And if you notice, when they announced him, he had equally, if not more cheers than Canelo, you know, and I told you that was going to happen. I mean, he had a lot of fans there, just two different sides of Mexico with two different fan bases in Tijuana and Guadalajara. And they showed up.

I mean, it was an incredible atmosphere. And Mungia, you got to give him a lot of credit, man. I think, I think, you know, whoever he fights next, he's still going to be a draw, and he's still going to be someone that people want to watch, because that was a hell of a performance on his part, and I would love to see him in with a fighter like, I would like to see him with Berlanga. If Berlanga really wants that Conno fight, I would think he needs to earn it. I know that's a strong word earned, but you earn it by fighting a guy like Hyman Mugia.

Well, before we get to what's next for both guys, you know, on the subject of what Canelo is right now, this was probably the first fight that I've watched, where I've left it thinking David Benavides beats Canello. Because even when Canelo wasn't knocking guys out over the previous four fights, I still pushed back on the notion that Benavitas was too big, too strong, through too many punches, because it's one thing to throw a lot of punches when you're facing lesser punchers. It's another thing to throw a lot of punches when you have one of the biggest punches of the division standing across from you. But watching Jaime Mungia kind of fearlessly go in at times and throw combinations,

it just made me think, like, if Benavides was throwing those punches. Oh, now you're thinking this. This is what I'm saying. No, now you're saying this. Do you remember our episode of Jabs when we had that topic about David Benavides, and you were like, no, you know, Canelo still beats him? I agree. And I told you Benavides beats Canelo back then.

How long ago was that episode on Jabbs? What, like eight months ago? Probably a year. Yeah, probably a year ago. A year ago, I told you this. David Benavides beats Canelo. And I think now people are starting to realize that Canello is fallible. You know, he is hitable.

He, you know, he's not as, he's not the volume puncher that he used to be. He didn't go for the kill. He's not knocking guys out of 168. Benevitas is a natural 168-pounder. I can go on and on and on. And that's not even talking about the speed, the power, the size that Benavitas brings to the table, the meanness, the grids. the grit, everything, and the fan base.

Benevita is a popular fighter. That's the reason I think anytime Benavides' name comes up, Conno, he little brothers him. He little bros him because he knows that's going to be the ultimate test and one that I don't think he passes. And I think he will take a calculated risk if he ever does fight him. And by calculating it means a lot of money.

It will take a lot of money. And look, at the post-fight press conference, I saw some quotes floating around where Canello said 200 million when it comes to fighting David Benavides. And look, we both know when Canelo says something like that, he's effectively speaking to an audience of one. He's speaking to His Excellency, Turkey Alashik over in Saudi Arabia. And he's sending a message through the press that, hey, if you want to make this fight happen, here's the cost of doing business, right? I'll fight this guy, but I'm fighting it for a massive amount, which, by the way, is just taking a page out of the Floyd Mayweather playbook. I mean, Floyd put off that Manny Pacquiao fight for years.

And ultimately, it turned out to be the smart business move from Floyd because he made like $500 million or whatever it was that he walked away with. So Canello is doing exactly what Floyd did towards the tail end of Floyd's career. But that kind of offer is not going to be on the table in 2024. People need to put out of their minds the idea that Canello was going to fight Benavides this year. Benevides is fighting on June 15th at Light Heavyweight. I think there's going to be talk about Benavides fighting the winner of Dmitry Bevo against Archer-Betterb. Whenever that fight gets rescheduled.

So I think it's in the mid of 225 at the earliest before we can actually realistically talk about Canelo against David Benavides. So Canelo's got to fight somebody in September, right? And right now, whether people like it or not, the two frontrunners are Edgar Berlanga and Jamal Charle. Edgar Berlanga was in Vegas all week long, and every interview that he did, he said, hey, I'm fighting Canelo next. He told me right here on this podcast that there was a 99.9% chance that he was going to fight Canello in September. Now, Jamal Charlo, I didn't see him in Vegas, but he's been saying a lot of the same things. What do you think about those two potential

matchups? I don't think Berlanga deserves that fight yet. I don't think he beats him. I think he brings a lot of power to the table. I think, you know, they can market it well. It's Puerto Rico versus Mexico. I just, you know, as a fighter, you have to earn that spot. You have to earn that spot. And I think Burlanga hasn't earned it. Mungia earned it. You know, that Dervinchenko fight is the one that, you know, I think he earned it. The John Ryder fight is where I think he earned it. Burlanga needs to have one of those fights. He needs to have one of those fights where people say, you know what, throw that kid a bone, you know, he showed some grit. He showed some, some some some um some courage and now he can you know cash out because canelo canel is a cash out and

my i'm mungia is kind of too young to cash out yeah and and mungia they maneuvered them they maneuvered mungia really really well to this point so credit to fernando ferndano beltran uh oscar de la joa golden boi promotions they did a hell of a job getting mungia to this point and mungia credit to him for you know just putting on a uh a really a really courageous performance. Hold on, hold on, hold on, a courageous performance. Something that I think Verlanga won't be able to do just yet. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.

It's not going to be David Morel. Both those guys are not headed to 175. Both those guys have fight scheduled over the next couple of months. Who's it going to be? Like who, I agree with you, Belanga, doesn't necessarily deserve it, but I don't think Jamal Charlo deserves it either. He hasn't done anything to, you know, earn that type of fight. Who's it going to be?

Who is the best option out there for Canello? Wait a minute, Charlo was a champion. Charlo was, you know, he was a champion. He's a well-known name. He was a power puncher. I mean, yeah, he's had his issues, but he was still- But inactivity has plagued him for the last three years. That was one of his issues, but he didn't deserve it.

I don't think he deserved it either, but, you know, he got to. I got it. I just, you know, Bena, excuse me, Bernan, he's not on the championship level yet. He doesn't even have a solid champion, you know, that he's fought yet. He's climbing there. He's getting there. I think, you know, his last, his last performance, he showed that, you know, he's still a big dog. He has a big punch, but that Cossar's performance, that one's the one was like, oh, man, you're not ready yet. Not yet, kid. So you're asking me who I think Connell should fight next.

it's probably going to be a former champion type. It's not going to be a champion. And at 168, I mean, go down the list. Throw some names on me. He's beaten all the former champions. They're former champions because he beat them. He's not going to fight Caleb Plant again.

No, no, no, no. I don't even know who else out there. Look here. The reality is, whether we like it or not, Edgar Berlang's the front runner right now. Edgar Berlang can sell a fight. Mexico, Puerto Rico. He's obviously going to be flamboyant

during the press tour. He's undefeated. Nominally, he is Canello's WBA mandatory challenger. We can scoff at that all we want. I do it all the time. But he is in that number one position for one of the belts that Canello holds. It's an easy fight to make. Berlangus team is not going to hold him up for a ton of money. In terms of marketability, it's the most marketable fight available right now for Canelo Alvarez. I don't think a Charlo fight is marketable anymore.

I think you, in the aftermath of how Jermel fought, I don't think you can sell the public properly on a Jermal fight. And look, you got your phone out now. Yeah, no, I'm looking at them. No, I'm looking at them. It's just bare right now. Yeah, you know, you make a good point there because all these kids, and I call them kids, because they're 10 and O. He's not fighting Christian and Billy. No, it's not going to happen.

You know, Christian and Billy, no, he's not going to happen. Piznian, it's not going to happen. Zichkin is not going to happen. Sishkin is not going to happen. Pacheco is way too young and doesn't deserve it just yet either. So, yeah, you know what, man, you might have a point. You might have a point here. I don't know who's next.

I just don't think that it's kind of what we're left with at this point. Berlanga is going to be, Blanca is the front runner. Unless something changes, like even at 160, Sergio, who is there at 160 for him to fight? I mean, he's not a lot of great options out there for Canelo Alper. I think Edgar Berlanga, granted, things could change. Maybe he decides to dare to be great and do something different, but I think in September... I got a name for you.

You, Matt, Jr. That's who Canella fights next. I could see that. I could see that. Maybe he wants to do something over in the UK. But in terms of U.S. fights, Berlang is kind of the guy that's out there. So I think Berlanga...

Jaime Mungia, your thoughts on who he could fight. I mean, like, he's going to come back. Again, his stock, I think, went up after that... I'll tell you exactly what he fights that. Okay. Kayla Plant. I love that fight. Kayla Plant.

I love him or hate him. He always puts on a hell of a fight. He's a boxer before a puncher. Mungia's a puncher before a boxer. Stylistically, it makes sense. I think it'll be a hell of a fight, a winnable fight for Kayla Plant. And it's a type of fight where Mungia will have to show more than just a grit and physical combinations. He would have to be smart as well.

That'll be a hell of a fight. Give me Mungia plant. I don't think it happens next because I think both, I think Caleb Plant's already said publicly he's headed towards some kind of tune up fight after a long layoff. And I think you give Jaime and Mungia one fight to get his legs back under him, get a win. But both these guys get wins in 2024. That is a great fight to make at the start of 2025. And look, I think Caleb Plant could outbox Mungia. I think Mungia could stop Caleb Plant.

I mean, both those things are happening. That is to me, is a coin flip type of fight right now. I'll throw you another name, Diego Pacheco. Diego Pacheco Munguia. You know, I think that that will be a big step for Pacheco. But if Pacheco beats him, we have a new star, a New Mexican star, 168. So either Caleb Plant or Diego Pacheco for me. Yeah, I think Pacheco might be a year or two away from that type of level.

He's not on the way. No way. But he's not a name yet. No, oh, he's not a name. Yeah, I'll give you that. But he has a skill, and I think he beats Mungia. I think Diego Pachico beats Mungia right now. I think it's a great fight.

As far as the name and marketability, yes, you make a good point. But Diego Pacheco, I think, beats this version of Mungia. it'll be an amazing fight. All right. Last thing for you, because people that are listening to this show are probably going to be waking up early Monday morning to watch the Noewe-Inouye v. Louis Neri, 122-pound fight. You called Neri's last fight, that incredible fight against Azad Hauvinisian fight of the year,

you know, per some people, top three for sure in terms of exciting. We haven't seen anyone able to hang with Inouye at any way class at this point. He has just been a force over the last couple of years. He's become undisputed into weight divisions. Do you think Luis Neri can give in a way problems on Monday? Problems, yes, but I don't think he beats him. I think ultimately he gets stopped. It's going to be an incredible fight.

I'm pulling for him, but I think Tijuana is going to have back-to-back. They're going to come up short. Like Mungia came up short yesterday. I think Luis Nettie comes out short tomorrow. But I think he puts up a good fight. I think he might even, he might give in away his best fight, one of his best fights. He's that good. It's going to be a great fight, and I can't wait.

It's tomorrow morning, right? It's Monday morning in the U.S. Tomorrow morning, and I'm excited for that fight. I think Nettie is a special fighter, a very special fighter. I love that fight with Hovernissian. Everything I saw of Luis Netti, he's just a beautiful boxer. He's a new school Mexican boxer puncher. He's not that typical Mexican style.

This kid has what it takes to give Noah in a way One of the best fighters in the world Everything can handle He just can't beat him yet He can compete but he can't beat the monster in Japan I don't know who can At least not at 122 Let me tell you some

I thought that I thought something that was interesting Was asked of Tank Davis on Saturday at his press availability Somebody asked him if he would drop to 1.30 To fight Inouye And Tank and I believe Leonard Ellarby from Mayweather promotions both said that he would.

I thought Inouye versus Tank was kind of pie in the sky, just too far apart in terms of weight, but Inouye's probably one or two fights away from moving up to 126. If Tank's willing to go to 130, he hasn't been a 130 in a while, a lot of trouble making that weight. But if he can make 130, would you advise Inouye to move up to take that fight? Yes. Okay, you would.

Yes, because he has faster feet and faster punches, and tank is a very short fighter, so Heights's not going to be a problem. I think that's a winnable fight for Inouye. It'll be an explosive fight that probably won't last two rounds or three rounds, but yes, absolutely, because he has the right,

the right intangibles to probably beat a fighter-light tank. I mean, we haven't seen- You would favor Inouye in a fight like that? Right now, favor Inouye against anyone. I think he's that much of a beast. He's an all-time great, he's an all-time great and an all-time great puncher. Tank's a heavy puncher

He's a wicked Wicked puncher From that south paw stance But not as explosive In always more explosive than tank When it comes to combinations And there's more speed behind him And always more of a

Mani Paco type power Aggressive Exactly And with speed and explosiveness Tank on the other hand He's still explosive He's a monster He's a monster but it's not with foot

Well it is with footwork He's got good footwork Yeah no it is with full work It's just different It's just two different styles of boxing, but yes, I think in a way it's a winnable fight for him where if he can land a punch,

you know, Tank, we're going to see have to see Tank face adversity. That's a super fun. I kind of dismissed the idea of that because I never believe Tank would go back to 130 and frankly, I'm still not sure he can make 130 again. I mean, he had a lot of problems getting down and weight in the past. He seems to have settled in nicely at 135.

And like if he got to 130, Sergio, he'd probably be drained at that weight. Whereas in a way, coming up would be stronger, fresher, Maybe a little heavier than it's used to being, but, you know, tank at 1.30, we have to cut a lot of weight down. That would be a tall task for him. We've seen in recent fights, if you kill yourself to make weight, you leave something out of the ring. It costs you something on that. But hell, I'd love to see that fight.

Look, to put a button on it, I think Inouye knocks out Neri. I think the shots that Neri was hit with against Hovinaician are going to be a lot worse if he gets hit with the same stuff by Inouye. I think he's competitive and fun for a while, but fifth or sixth round, I think he gets hit with a combination. and it lights out for Louis Neri. But great event Monday. I think that's on ESPN Plus in the U.S. Check that out Monday morning. Sergio, try not to get into a fight on the plane.
