Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
Starting point is 00:00:30 you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. Starting point is 00:03:23 Not a Los Angeles protest sort of weekend. Live from the mean streets of L.A. It's Covino and Rich. and we have an action-pack show today. Yeah, man. We got some Iron Mike trivia. Iron Mike's stopping by today. That's a nice way to start the week.
Starting point is 00:03:41 We're going to get to Iron Mike. We're going to talk about kissing other grown-ups on the lips. What the hell? Cam Scataboos in the news. Funny story about him. Is that a dance? Shaquille O'Neal. Shack's got some...
Starting point is 00:03:52 Your grandpappy did, the old Cam Scataboo. Got a nickel in my pocket. Yeah, yeah. What is that? Skattaboo. Yeah. So, anyway, I hope you had a nice weekend. Let's have a great week on this Nuevee de Huno.

Starting point is 00:04:42 we have some multiple choice trivia, but let's get into it. How's your weekend? I was on the East Coast. It's good to be back in L.A. Even though it was a crazy weekend. But if you live here, you don't even know what happened. Well, that's the thing. The news shows you one thing.
Starting point is 00:04:58 And the reality is not a lie. It's just it's not all of California. that's the point. But hope you had a nice weekend. I had a nice time on the East Coast. It's good to be back here on the West Side. And amongst my travels, of course I watched some NBA. Did Shaquille O'Neal? We'll get to that. First, I want to say that OKC played like OKC. SGA played like SGA. The Thunder dominated the second game. It's all tied at one. And, Now it's starting to look. And again, we're very fickle fans, right? Wherever the wind blows, that's where we are. Right now it seems like, oh, okay. Oh, yeah, yeah, that's the OKC we thought.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Now it looks like they're going to win it all, but who knows? Well, now I'm keeping it on. My interest is Jay Z going to win his million dollar bet. Right, right. OKC in five. He needs a clean sweep now. And, you know, a lot of people around here, a lot of people around everywhere thought that it might be a four to five game series.
Starting point is 00:05:59 so could OKC just dominate from this point on? And game three is Wednesday. I feel like the NBA finals also very spread out. I get it. We're finally here. But like you said, the momentum of like, oh, when's another game on? Wednesday?
Starting point is 00:06:17 Wednesday. Yeah, you got your Stanley Cup final tonight, game three. But you got to wait until Wednesday, your hump night, for the NBA to continue. And you're not alone in that feeling, Rich. I'm with you on that. I imagine any. sort of basketball fan, any casual fan,
Starting point is 00:06:32 definitely must feel like, well, they're really dragging this out, aren't they? It feels that way. So, got to wait until Wednesday there, but I was watching, you were probably watching while grilling up and enjoying your weekend. You probably tuned in here and there.
Starting point is 00:06:48 It's been a fun battle so far. It's all tied at one, even though OKC seemed to dominate game two. But here's the thing. You know who's not watching? Your boy, Shaquille O'Neal. he is my boy. When I was a kid,
Starting point is 00:07:03 I wasn't there, but I'll never, you just made me think of this. He was so popular coming out of LSU and LSU. I think he was still, yeah, he was still in college.
Starting point is 00:07:16 I don't think he was even on the magic yet. And I remember he stopped by a store in my hometown. It was the talk of the town that Shaquille O'Neill was there because just larger than life. How did Shaq end up in Union, New Jersey? Honestly, I have no idea, but I remember when, maybe he went to that, what is it, the bowling alley strip club combo that was there? No, it was the union marketplace he stopped at.
Starting point is 00:07:40 And that no longer exists, but it was one of those old school marketplace, indoor marketplace with a million different shops. And Shaquille O'Neal stopped by there. It was the talk of the town. But, you know, forever we heard about this legendary guy. I've been hearing about this kid since I was in junior high. That's my point. This is junior high. Shaquille O'Neal, man, larger than life.
Starting point is 00:08:01 And he is. He's one of our heroes. And when you have heroes like Shaquille O'Neal, guys you grew up admiring, you have expectations or you have this thought of them. And what if I were to tell you that Shaquille O'Neal, one of your heroes, a guy that gets paid a lot of money to represent the NBA and analyze the NBA and sort of still be one of the faces of the MBA. What if I told you that you're watching the finals, but he's not?
Starting point is 00:08:32 Yeah, he said that I'm going to be in the Bahamas. I'll not watch. And everybody said to him, well, there's still TVs in the Bahamas. You could still watch the Bahamas. And I thought the response was going to be, well, hey, man, when I'm on vacation, I tune out, which is sometimes understandable if you're not making millions of dollars to do that, right? if you're a regular dude and you're an accountant and the boss is like, hey, man, I was hitting you up or I expect you to still be tuned in to the TPS reports
Starting point is 00:09:05 coming in, you could tell that boss respectfully, hey, I'm on vacation, man. On the beach. I'm tuning out. That's what I do on vacation. I get it. But when you're Shaquille O'Neal, and that's your job and you're paid nicely to do that job, that's another story. So Shaq's response was something along those lines, but it was.
Starting point is 00:09:22 No, it's. It was, yeah, but you can't watch the games when you're. in the ocean. They said, I don't know if he's swimming or if he's on a yacht. They said NBA TV is also on in the Bahamas, you know, and he said, not in the ocean. Not in the ocean. And, you know, it poses the bigger question, not for Shaquille and Neil, but for everyone, every fan. When you're on vacation, is watching sports fair game? Yes. Like if you and the wife, you love, here's why. And I also, it's not asking someone to watch a boring, like, documentary about something you don't care about, you're asking them to do something that you like to do.
Starting point is 00:10:00 So, of course, even when I'm on vacation, I'm tuned in because that's something I like. Why wouldn't I want to watch? It's only, I don't need a vacation from watching fun stuff. It's only a vacation from you. It's only a limited time a game is on, meaning, listen, if you're in the Bahamas right now, if you're in Aruba, Jamaica, or any place, a Beach Boy song is about, and you're an NBA fan, is it really cramping your vacation if for two hours and 15,000? 15 minutes, you're like, can we watch game one, two, or three?
Starting point is 00:10:28 Like, here's the thing. I always said the funny. Like, my wife and I will go on vacation and you're walking through the lobby at night. Sometimes you sit down, you watch a little of a game. I don't find that to be what I need to escape from. Well, you think I'm going to bash on Shaq. I'm really not. I'm just setting up the story.
Starting point is 00:10:46 Although you can easily say, yeah, but he gets paid millions and millions and millions and billions of dollars to do this. so he should be watching. But sometimes even if you do fun stuff for work, you still need a break from it. So, yeah, basketball is his life, it's his career, and that would be a dream job for anybody. But for him, that's still his job. And that's what I'm sort of explaining.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Now you could say, yeah, but he gets paid a lot. And I get that too, and I get that side of the argument. When I started off in radio, Danny G could attest to this, because I believe he lived that same life. but in the world of hip hop. I came into radio in rock radio, strictly rock radio, and it was going to live concerts five out of seven days a week and broadcasting from this venue and broadcasting from that venue.
Starting point is 00:11:37 And every night you're the first one there. When you work in promotions, too, starting out, you're the first one there, last one to leave. You're setting up broadcast, broadcast booth. You're driving the van there. It's an all day thing. You're hanging banners. Dude.
Starting point is 00:11:51 And then you're taking it all down in, breaking down all the gear after everybody's long gone. The engineering equipment. You've said it. Banners have to be everywhere. You have to make your presence fell as the local radio station. And you're thinking, man, but what a great gig for a young guy starting out who loves to do that stuff. When you do that for years, and I did concert after concert after concert after concert, the stuff that was really fun to you and the reason why you got involved in the first place begins to feel like work. And I have to tell you, when I stopped living that side of things, I didn't go to a concert for a good. It felt like 10, 15 years.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Maybe one here and there. But I was not going to concerts because to me it reminded me of work and it felt like work. So what was once fun felt like work, even though I loved it. Everything that's fun to someone is work to someone else. Right. So you have to imagine, no one loves basketball more than Shaq. But watching the game, calling a game, analyzing the game, having to formulate an opinion on a the game that begins to feel like work after a while.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I mean, it's true. I mean, going to a sporting event or a concert to some would be like, how is that ever work? However, I never got paid millions and millions of dollars. But you know what? Everything that you would think, how could this even be considered work? I guarantee there's a male adult film star out there that's like, I gotta go to work today. What's the scene? It's me and three women.
Starting point is 00:13:15 Oh, man. This chops for the birds. Man, I got to go to work. Yeah, do wait. What's your job? job again? Yeah, no, again, it's an orgy. Me and like four chicks. Yeah, but it's work, man. For someone, that is work. The same way you might say, wait, you're backstage at the Morgan Walling concert. Wait, you get, you get to, you're working backstage on the Erez tour with Taylor Swift,
Starting point is 00:13:38 where every young woman on planet Earth pays thousands? No, to someone that's work. So to Shaquille O'Neal, it's perhaps checking out. And he can't even, he doesn't want to give two hours. Right. Everywhere he goes, he's Shaquille O'Neal. People want to talk about him, basketball, finals. So, hey, maybe in the ocean. He has to go into the middle of the ocean. Drinking a calic, man. He might need to escape that.
Starting point is 00:14:05 The only side to this argument that I see against Shaq is, hey, dude, come on. You're getting paid millions of dollars to do what people do for free for fun. millions, the millions of dollars that you would think would require him to be tuned in at all times because people value his opinion that much.
Starting point is 00:14:25 That's the thing. That's the only flip side to the argument. I know Danny G. He feels that way too. My flip side. But you get paid millions. My flip side isn't even about the money. My flip side is how are you supposed to be interested in the NBA when one of the ambassadors of the game so easily is like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:14:42 I don't even want to watch. That's a good point. This is the guy that's supposed to be hyping you up. Shaquille O'Neal, Barclay, Ernie. All these guys are moving to ESPN, right? They're all, this is, these are the faces of NBA broadcasting. And I do believe that's part of his job. Yeah, you want him to be honest. But as a broadcaster who talks sports, I feel like it's even our job to hype up what's going on.
Starting point is 00:15:05 I'm not a big hockey fan, but yo, game three tonight, just gives you something to be hyped up about. That's a great point. Think of another sport. If Shaq is the guy saying, hey, I'm not even watching. I'm not even watching that. That sort of like puts a damper on. Well, why am I watching? And this was your guys' argument at the beginning of this NBA season
Starting point is 00:15:22 when everybody was down on the league and talking about the ratings being so low. And there were guys like Chuck coming out, you know, slandering his favorite sport, remember? And you said, hey, you're supposed to be one of the faces of the league. Yeah, you got to be the hype guy if this is the league that's responsible for all that money and that lifestyle you're living. So there's a bunch of ways to look at it. We just want to give you all of them. And if you just joined us, Shaq said he's not watching the NBA finals because he's going to be in the Bahamas and he's going to be in the ocean.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I imagine in the water is what he meant on a raft the whole time. Somewhere on a yacht, perhaps. And I don't blame him. I love the Bahamas, man. But your thoughts on that. Do you expect him to be watching? You know what I felt this way as a kid? I felt this way about Derek Jeter.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Derek Jeter as much as I admired him and still do. one of my heroes they always said the biggest disconnect between Jeter and Arod because there was a lot of conflict there and drama and competition is that Arod lived for baseball
Starting point is 00:16:27 I mean he went great lengths to stay competitive right he did anything possible to win to his own detriment but when he was not playing he was a student of the game like he was a nerd about it like everything was baseball always watching baseball always talking
Starting point is 00:16:43 baseball, everything baseball, baseball, baseball, baseball. And Jeter sort of tuned out of baseball when baseball wasn't on. You've heard him say, you know, I haven't picked up a bat since I retired. When Aeron is still like that guy. Aero's probably still working on a swing. Right. And when I heard that from Jeter, it sort of run me a weird way because I'm like, damn, I imagine that Jeter was just baseball all the time, but he really wasn't.
Starting point is 00:17:07 Well, that's the difference between you and I behind the scenes. Yeah. Well, you know, you're also living a different life. you have a five-year-old and a seven-year-old. You know, my sole focus has to do with radio and parenting a teen. But when you're a parent of a teen, they don't need your parenting as much as a five- and a seven-year-old. Well, speaking of A-Rod, did you see what A-Rod said the other day? You bring up dad life.
Starting point is 00:17:30 But it seemed to me, hold on, that my hero, Jeter, didn't seem to watch and enjoy baseball as much as I did the fan. It's like he played it, but that's where it ended. But that would be like when baseball shifts to the, like, like NL and it's on TBS. Jeter's saying, wait, I'm not bro about working. I'm not watching.
Starting point is 00:17:48 Yeah, exactly. But now he's paid to watch and paid to be an analyst. But back in the day, they said that was the disconnect between those two. So it's like when you hear the stuff about heroes and people you admire, it's like, uh-huh, really, Shaq? You're not watching. You watch this whole season. You're not watching the NBA finals?
Starting point is 00:18:05 How'd expect me to? How do you expect me to? How do you expect the casual fan to watch of Shaquille O'Neal. But I think I made a solid point. Like, for him, it's work, though, guys. And everybody needs. a break, even if it's stuff you love. You think you made a solid point? I'll be the judge of that.
Starting point is 00:18:16 Okay, you did. No one's going to, there's no one out there that's going to say they love basketball more than Shaq. Get out of my face. The guy revolves his whole life around it and built his whole life around it. Now, Shaq is an analyst, former player. How do you feel about current players who say once their team's eliminated, it's like too painful to watch? More understandable. Like when there are guys that, you see it in football a lot, Danny G.
Starting point is 00:18:40 There's guys like, yeah, I ain't watching the Super Bowl. there are guys on the Ravens and you know teams that make it to the aFC championship Josh Allen there were guys that said yeah I just I'm out watching yeah that I get because the wound is fresh you know what though Danny what I do respect is the honesty even though I'm shocked to hear that because he's paid to watch these games or you expect him to watch it it's one of those like coming of age realities you're like what check you're not watching the finals it's like when I met Joe Montana he's like I really don't like the Niners I was a Steelers fan I'm like what wait hold on yeah you're really
Starting point is 00:19:12 in our childhood feelings here a little bit. Rich and I, we've interviewed a lot of athletes along the way, which is also something you can throw in this conversation. Never at a time did you think you'd be like, oh, I have to interview a star? Yeah, which is when you do things. For a lot of people. For a job, it becomes work.
Starting point is 00:19:29 It becomes old hat. Brett Farve's old hat. It becomes old hat after a while. But I remember the realization of talking to certain players, and they didn't know all the players on their own team. That was a big shocker for me.
Starting point is 00:19:43 I'm like, wait a second. I know all the players on your team. How do you not know? But it makes sense. When you're in the game and you're worried about yourself and you're still trying to maintain a career and stay on the team, a lot of these dudes are in and out of the league and in and out of your team. It's hard for some of the veterans to know somebody's young guys all the time that are in and out.
Starting point is 00:20:05 But that was a realization for me. I'll give you a other one of your realizations talking about being in it. This all revolves around Shaq saying, I'm not watching the NBA finals. And you'd imagine why on earth would Shaquillo and the all, not just tune in, but he's like, no, I'm in the ocean. I'm going to be doing the backstroke. I remember we had.
Starting point is 00:20:23 I'm doing a cannonballs. Carrying open up. Belly flops. We had someone on our show once, and you're going to fill in the blank form. They're going to go with Scuba Shack. Scuba Shack. I remember, you're going to fill in the blank because you'll remember. We had a rock band on our show,
Starting point is 00:20:40 and I'm trying to remember who it was. but Kavino started shouting out their track listing. And like, yeah, I don't even remember that. It was Stone Temple Pilots, actually. Yeah, it was STP, not to name drop, but I was calling out there. Oh, no, no, no, no, dude, it was third eye blind. It was Stephen Jenkins. I knew his track listing and he didn't.
Starting point is 00:20:59 Yeah, that song came and then this one. He's like, you remember the order of my CD? I don't. Yes, it was that. I had a similar discussion with STP, which was a cooler band to drop. But third eyeline who I did like in college for sure. I mean, semi-charm life is on every 90s mix. Track five was graduate or I'm just making that up now.
Starting point is 00:21:19 It's been so long, but it probably still is spot. Give me a fact check. Graduate track five, five or six. And he looked at you and he's like, I don't know. I don't even know. I'm like, yeah, man, it was started with jumper and semi-charmed life. And he was like, dude, I don't even know that. I'm like, you're in the band.
Starting point is 00:21:35 How do you not know your track listing? It's one of those reality checks. Shack is not watching the finals. I was right? Graduate. Track five. Yeah. Spotty.
Starting point is 00:21:46 Way to be on that. But yeah, just a reminder. Do you lose respect or do you understand? I get it. I kind of understand. I get it because other things take over in life. And by the way, I brought up A-Rod before I said he's living that dad life like you. You're not here yet, but I saw a whole article about A-Rod, how his daughter, I believe, Vivian's 20.
Starting point is 00:22:07 For the record, Kavino here. My daughter is 16 in November. So it's a whole different ballgame. He said he's at the dad's stage of life now where hanging out with his kid is by appointment and he gets really stoked when she's like, Dad, you want to me for coffee? And he's like, I get all fired up. Like Aaron's like you get to the stage where your daughter, you only hang with her when it's like an appointment. Like, dad, you want to go meet? And he's like, he gets all pumped.
Starting point is 00:22:31 Yeah, right now I'm at the stage where I'm her personal chauffeur. So I still see her. You're right. Oh, you're living. You're Uber, Steve. Uber Steve. Yeah, you know, very much still a huge part of her life. But they start doing their own thing, their own friends, their own world, their own teams, and whatever they're involved in.
Starting point is 00:22:49 So again, your thoughts about you're all glued to the finals. You realize it's tied at one, but Shaq's not watching. Boo for Shaq. It's not creating the illusion we all want, right? Right, right, right. So again, you know, it's just something to think about your thoughts. 87799 on Fox and of course you can hit us up at Covino and Rich
Starting point is 00:23:11 you know what it's like too rich one last personal one I've been playing rock music for over 20 years on Sirius XM every night and there'll be a big festival or big concert coming up and the fans are so pumped about man bro are you
Starting point is 00:23:26 going? They're like no I'm not going. Wait wait a way what? How are you not going? But you're the guy. Yeah you're the dude and meanwhile you know they're so pumped to even have an opportunity to buy a ticket and you're like but wait you're not going to be there and I'm like nah you know I got a life to live I used to feel that way about that's really shack just living his life I used to feel that way about you when we lived in New York and Kavino's the guy that watches
Starting point is 00:23:48 162 Yankee games and I remember there would be times we'd be living on the East Coast and it'd be like yeah you go on the playoff game you're like nah like but you're the guy that watches it just happens when you're spoiled Yankee fan that's all yeah every year's a playoff here that's all right well listen we got more Kavino and Rich coming up we are going to talk about kissing other grownups on the lips as a story about I'm on Ross St. Brown I want to get to. That's pretty funny. Camp Scataboo.
Starting point is 00:24:13 Rookie running back is a really funny story about him. So a lot of randau. Hey, what's that cool new dance? Yeah, it's called the Scataboo scene. Yeah. So we'll get to all that and more right here on Fox Sports Radio. Kavino and Rich. So we have big party coming up.
Starting point is 00:24:28 June 20th in Vegas. Can't wait at the Circa. I hope to see you there. And I can't wait. to bust out my sweetest gear from Travis Matthew. It's the perfect time to do it. Hell yeah. When you're trying to make a statement yet feel comfortable and casual at the same time,

That's for new customers. So if you go to Travis Matthew.com, just give the email, do the little email sign up. You're going to get 20% off. and I keep telling you about the featherweight jeans, the polo shirts, the T-shirts are nicely fitted.
Starting point is 00:25:09 They got that the waffle sweater I was rocking last week. Everything just fits the right way. You can tell that it's high-quality clothing. We're in L.A., and you're talking about this quality sweater. But a lot of this stuff is from the cloud collection. So even the long-sleevees stuff, it's just nice and light. It breathes and it feels good, so it doesn't even matter. And I think I might bust out those shoes while we're in Vegas, man.
Starting point is 00:25:30 And I have these hybrids that Travis Matthew makes. It's not just golf stuff. Do they look like Uncle Eddie on vacation? No, not those white ones. But they enhance every stride built for going further. Greatness from the ground up. People are going to be like, what are those? No, I mean it.
Starting point is 00:25:44 What are those? And I'm going to say, Travis Matthew, and you get 20% off your first order when you sign up for email. Thanks again to Travis Matthew.com. Hey, it's us, the Jonas Brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news, huge news?

Starting point is 00:26:16 So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers... This is how you... You guys remember it going down? Yes.
Starting point is 00:26:35 I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, Hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire survive? The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. He's got Thunder and Five for a million dollars. Pays out, I think, 2.5 mil. Well, Jay-Z's going to have to wait until Wednesday. That is weak.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Really dragging it out. Long stints in between the games and the NBA finals, for real. But I'm not complaining. Just explaining. I mean, I'm complaining a little bit. Where Kavino and Rich, live from the Fox Sports Radio Studio. For over 40 years, Tyraq has been helping customers find the right tires for how, what, and where they drive. Ship fast and free, back by free road hazard protection with convenient installation options like mobile tire installation.
Starting point is 00:30:47 Tireack.com the way tire buying should be. We got Big Sexy Ryan on the ones and twos. Danny G. on the phones at 87799 on Fox. He's super producing, and he's getting Mike Tyson ready for some trivia later on. I saw Mike making his way in earlier. Dan Byers got your updates in a few minutes. And again, all our videos at Covino and Rich at Fox Sports Radio and streaming live on Fox Sports Radio's YouTube page.
Starting point is 00:31:11 The more I think about it, Rich, my first and initial reaction hearing that Shaq isn't watching the NBA finals is weak. All that money he's paid, he's not watching. But when does a guy like Shaq ever get to not be Shaq? When does he get a break? That is true. You can say in the off season or whatever, but
Starting point is 00:31:29 I mean, he's always Shaq. When do you get the chance to rest? You know, Rich and I do so much radio. It's not that we need a break, but we need a chance to live life so that we have stories to talk about. Yeah, right? You still got to live a little life sometimes.
Starting point is 00:31:45 Because where are you going to get stories and experiences from? If you don't dip away and step away. Right. You know, we have fun every day. Shack has a great life, but he has to live that life so that he could have some content and perspective and other things to talk about.
Starting point is 00:31:59 No doubt. So not that mad at him. Anyway, I hope you had a great weekend. It's good to be back. Let's get to some phone calls and move on. Let's say how to Paul and Rhode Island. Paul, what's up, man? Kavino and Rich.
Starting point is 00:32:13 Listen, I don't know what you think about, Jack, but I think that Indiana is going to take this. And I also think that I think that Edmonton is going to take this. What was your first instinct, though? Was your first instinct Indiana? Always? Yeah, my boss in Shamrock, I think that you deserve to go further. Well, they didn't.
Starting point is 00:32:39 The Knicks did. Your knucklehead? Well, see, I was about to say, your first instinct's usually right. And that's not always the case, but usually, like, I had an instinct. Rich, you had an instinct. Most of us had an instinct that OKC was so dominant the whole season that they're probably going to have their way. And then you saw game one.
Starting point is 00:32:57 You're like, oh, maybe not. But then you saw a game two. You're like, yeah, that's, that's what I picked the Pacers before the series. started. Was that your first instinct? It was, it was, just because they were on a role and I feel like they match up okay. Let me ask you, though. Okay, see. Yeah, enough to win. When Moncey,
Starting point is 00:33:12 who works here at Fox Sports Ready, when she went around and asked all the employees, like, all right, give me your prediction. Do most people say what they think or are they trying to pick like a cool, daring pick? Like, I said OKC and 6, and I felt so lame about that, because that feels to me like the obvious answer.
Starting point is 00:33:29 No, I mean, this wasn't Laker Celtics, so I don't think anybody was like, you know, trying to impress her on the camera. I think people really were picking who they felt, you know, was going to win. Richard was trying to impress her. I was flexing a little bit. By the way, I should mention because Tony and Oregon called up and he's like, I'm just curious because the T&T crew signed off. So where did Shaq and Kenny Smith say this?
Starting point is 00:33:51 They were contracted to do pre and post game for NBA TV. So that's where this conversation took place. Gotcha. And Ernie made it clear that NBA TV is. on in the Bahamas, but Shaq also made like, yeah, I mean, I'm going to be in the water, bro. I'm not worried about that right now. And it sounds a little weird
Starting point is 00:34:09 because of Shaq and he's supposed to be watching. Well, hey, sometimes it's okay to be mentally checked out. Now, I have a story and it sort of ties together with a few things going on in the world of sports and entertainment. It has to do with just missing something along the way. Or just, you know, being so in your zone. That's like, not that you got your head,
Starting point is 00:34:30 buried in the sand. Your own bubble. But sometimes you're in your own little bubble. Well, you don't know what else is going on. Now, you said before Kavino, you grew up in the world of rock radio. If you grew up in the world of sports, and if you're so in your little zone,
Starting point is 00:34:46 sometimes you miss huge things that are just outside. You guessed it, you're a bubble. Maybe you're so committed and dedicated to what you do. You don't see anything else. You don't care about anything else. That might be the reason. Like sometimes people don't even know the current biggest songs in the country because they're so in a zone of other things or their lane.
Starting point is 00:35:10 Yeah, I get it. I remember one of the moms on my kids baseball team, we put her in charge of the kids walk up music one day. And she was like, Danny G. I'm talking like the biggest songs in the country that the kids wanted to walk up to. She's like, what's that song? And I'm like, how do you, how do you not know that's like your mom? You're living. What are we doing?
Starting point is 00:35:29 Yeah. This is like you not knowing about downtown L.A. Yeah, I didn't realize downtown L.A. was in disarray until late last night. We were in a group text last night. One of our buddies says, hey, is it time to move out of L.A. or what? And he sent some imagery from the protests. And Rich was like, what? What's going on?
Starting point is 00:35:50 Why? Because of the high taxes, he says, high taxes? I was like, what are you talking about? No, the protests and the violence that's going on right now that they're showing on the news. What, like five years ago? Black Lives Matter? Yeah. No, he's like, no, now.
Starting point is 00:36:02 It's not that you just missed it yesterday. You missed it for three whole days. And Rich is in L.A. I was on the East Coast flying. And I knew about, again, what was supposed to be peaceful protest. And it wasn't as bad as the news made it out to seem, but still was pretty bad.
Starting point is 00:36:19 For that portion of the 101 freeway, right? And parts of Compton, I guess. But like, there's other parts of Southern California where you could be like Rich, and you didn't even know anything was going, on. But for a lot of people outside of Cali, like a friend of mine in Nashville, he texted me, are you guys safe? When are you going to be moving out of California? Like, bro, not all of us are on fire here.
Starting point is 00:36:40 This arises when we had the fires, too, remember? Everybody thought all our houses were on fire. How in the world, though, could Rich live three days in Los Angeles with all these other parents and people he was dealing with throughout the weekend and Little League? No one brought up the protest to Rich at all. Not once? Not once on his phone when he's looking at all this mindless stupidity on social media. I try not to see this.
Starting point is 00:37:05 I try not to scroll. Your algorithm must be that of a little baby boy. Also makes me feel like you don't watch regular TV at all. I don't. I don't really watch TV. But some people, he missed. I stream things, right? I mean, do you watch TV?
Starting point is 00:37:18 What are you 80? If Rich can miss the protest in the city that he lives in for three days. No, it's called Dodger baseball. We have Spectrum TV and you have to turn the channels to get there. It's not impossible. And that is why I have to bootleg the next Dodgers games for those three days a year because I have MLB app I pay for. Obviously, Rich doesn't do it, but do you other guys ever feel like you just need to check in with the news at all? Like I do like, I may not watch the news, the 6 o'clock news every night or the 11 o'clock.
Starting point is 00:37:49 But if I've gone four days without watching, like the fifth day I'll be like, all right, at least I want to see what the top stories are or what's going on. Like I feel I need to check in. I do. Yeah. Yeah. You nailed it. That's exactly the- I guess during the week,
Starting point is 00:38:01 I do that every day, right, prepping for all the shows and things we do. But on the weekend, I was live news, though. No, I've never watching news. Yeah, I mean, I do exactly what Dan just did.
Starting point is 00:38:10 I'll throw on all, whatever. Yeah. It's not just CNN, it's not just Fox. And I also like the feeling of something live. Like, what are they talking about right now? Right?
Starting point is 00:38:21 Absolutely. That's it. I watch Pete Alonzo crush the Rocky single-handling. I watch the Mets all weekend. I watched the NBA finals. I had a barbecue and a pool party at my house for my kids. You were pulling the Shaquille O'Neal.
Starting point is 00:38:35 I was coaching games. Hold on. You were living life. I was in the pool. I was living life. I was living life. You were just living life. So sometimes you miss things.
Starting point is 00:38:43 So hard, you missed three days of it. That's living some pretty hard life right there. But meanwhile, he showed me like three dumb videos that he saw over the weekend. Still not as bad as a certain New York giant here. You know, but yeah, you can miss things for a couple days, but there's a story I want to get through next. And it has to do with Cam, Gadaboo. And I'm also
Starting point is 00:39:00 going to tie in another young player in the NFL. J.J. McCarthy. I'm going to tie him into this. It's when you miss something along the way. Like, where's the disconnect? We'll get to that, but let's go to our buddy, Dan Byer, for an update. DB. What's going on, man? No hoops tonight, but they will be skating in
Starting point is 00:39:16 South Florida. It's game three of the Stanley Cup final between the Oilers and Panthers. Eight o'clock Eastern Time. Series Tied up at a game of peace. The Oilers, Ryan Nugent Hopkins. considered a game time decision. Did take part in the morning skate for Edmonton.
Starting point is 00:39:33 But again, Oilers and Panthers tonight from South Florida in game three of the Stanley Cup final. Back to basketball, Cavaliers Guard, Darius Garland's going to miss four to five months after needing surgery to repair a toe injury. That means he'll miss the start of the upcoming season. That's according to the start of next season, I should say, that's according to ESPN. Garland suffered the injury in March and aggravated the toe during the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:39:56 ESPN also reports the Hawks are hiring Pelicans, GM, Bryson Graham, to be their senior VP of basketball operations. Balkans quarterback, Kurt Cousins, is expected to be at mandatory minicamp tomorrow for Atlanta. That's according to the athletic. He's right now the backup to Michael Pennix Jr. And would be fined if he missed minicamp. That was the message from head coach Rahim Morris. Packers releasing quarterback Jaya Alexander.
Starting point is 00:40:17 Bengals are letting go of linebacker Jermaine Pratt. Colts have announced a new ownership structure following the passing of Jim Ursay. The ownership of the franchise will be split amongst his three daughters, with Carly Ursay Gordon being. named owner and CEO of the franchise. And the Boston Red Sox are calling up top prospect outfield to Roman Anthony. Roman Anthony, that is, he bats fifth tonight against the Tampa Bay raise. Don't expect Caitlin Clark back tomorrow, guys, against the Atlanta Dream,
Starting point is 00:40:42 the Indiana Fever Star going to miss her fifth strike game because of a strained quad. Back to you. That's a meme. It was like Indiana fever games without Caitlin Clark tickets are back to like $3. So get back soon. Caitlin Clark, save the WMBA. You're the only one that people care about. Dan Byer, let me ask you.
Starting point is 00:40:59 NHL Stanley Cup finals, I doubt anyone knows off the top of their head. But if tonight went to overtime, I can't imagine there's been an NBA, NHL Stanley Cup finals where the first three games were all overtime, right? Yeah, I don't know off the top of my head. That would be crazy. That would be unprecedented, right? I mean, game one overtime, Edmonton wins. Game two overtime, Florida wins.
Starting point is 00:41:17 If they do another overtime? And Fridays was in double overtime. And what people always say, nothing better than playoff hockey, especially overtime. So hockey fans are getting what they want. Yeah, it has been really good, to be honest. I even have buddies who weren't really into hockey, and I can't say that I was, but I've watched more this year that I've watched in the past decade.
Starting point is 00:41:37 And same with my buddy. He's like, yeah, I've actually really enjoyed it. You know that feeling of live we just spoke of when it comes to just putting on the news because here's what's going on right now? Yeah. That's it when it comes to sports a lot of times. I'm not invested in hockey, right? And especially these two teams.
Starting point is 00:41:56 But I'll have it on. That's all we ask. Put it on tonight. That's all. Have it on. Have it on in the background. This is what's going on tonight. I said Cam Scataboo and J.J. McCarthy, what are they having in common?
Starting point is 00:42:08 What are they having common with my dumbass who didn't know it was going on in my own city all weekend? When you miss something along the way, there's two funny stories we'll get to next in the world of the NFL and sports. So all next right here. Kavino and Rich, Fox Sports Radio. Hey, it's us, the Jonas brothers. And guess what? We have some big news. What's the news?
Starting point is 00:42:31 Huge news. We created our own podcast called Hey Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to a... We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts. We're starting a trend.

Starting point is 00:48:37 I'd have to watch season one. You know like Shane Gillis? Does he like me? Because then it'll determine my answer. I haven't asked him. Yeah, well, when you find out, let me know. Okay, fair enough. He's all right.
Starting point is 00:48:49 He's all right. Your buddy John Lovitz. Oh, that's the ticket is in season two. I don't like Shane Gillis. I like some of his stuff, but I don't know him personally. So anyway, I hope you enjoyed the finals this weekend. And I am everyday people. Steve Kavino.
Starting point is 00:49:06 That is Rich Davis. Oh, did you appreciate my dude, Pete Alonzo, giving props, to your favorite bowler of all time? I did. He's like, who do you think you are? I am. They did the lip reading and the dugout. It was great.
Starting point is 00:49:18 Pete Alonzo. Pete Alonzo, to think that any team in baseball could have had him for like nothing. Dude's hitting bombs. I mean, what are you talking about? Your own team didn't want him. That's what I'm saying. Then they finally were like,
Starting point is 00:49:28 all right, let's do it, Pete. But every other chance in Major League Baseball had the opportunity. Yeah, because I think every other team was like, the guys of New York Met. Why aren't the Mets signing them? Yeah, but at any given moment. You should look at your own team before you point fingers
Starting point is 00:49:41 anybody else. You guys didn't want him. Hey, ass clown. He's on the Mets. Doing better than everyone else. Yeah, and you didn't want him. That's the point. I'm just saying, you're Dodgers, your Yankees, your the Yankees, you already got Goldschmidt at that point. But what I'm saying is anyone could have had Pete Alonzo and to
Starting point is 00:49:57 think how good he's playing. He was just up for grabs. You can't be saying that when everyone was saying it to you about your Mets. Every Mets fan wanted him. The Mets just knew that the market somehow wasn't popping. But you're calling out every other team when Everyone else was like, how do you guys not want them?
Starting point is 00:50:13 Hey, dummy, the Mets got them. You mean the number two all-time home run hitter for the New York Mets about the past Daryl Strawberry? Yeah, we knew that. Rich, the Dodgers have this guy named Freddie Freeman at first base. Yeah, the Yankees had just signed somebody. You're telling me when Michael Bunk-ass canforto is in your lineup, you couldn't have made room for Pete Alonzo. You know, Michael Kifesto, who bats who bats who bats who bats who bouts one-10? You mean the guys, you mean your Mets who had them already and needed a first baseman?
Starting point is 00:50:40 point the finger at yourself. You're the guys that were hesitating on them. You dumbass. All I'm saying is that everyone else had the chance. The Mets almost blew it and somehow recovered. But everyone in the... You know what it's like... It's like dating a girl that's beautiful.
Starting point is 00:50:55 She's hot. She's smart. Your family lover. She's perfect for you. And you almost let her get away. Luckily, somehow, you know, you broke up for a week. And she didn't meet anybody new. And you, oh, thank God, we're back together.
Starting point is 00:51:10 the Mets could have very easily lost Pete Alonzo. I'm saying they're lucky they did it. All right. This Camp Scataboo story, let me set it up. First I want to say he seems like a good dude. Yeah, man. But sometimes you can be so in your bubble that you don't know other things. He is now a member of the New York Football Giants.
Starting point is 00:51:28 And when you believe this guy, we're going to play the audio when we come back. You saw him crying with his fan when he got drafted.
