Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

It is great to have you in on a pack Monday.
Travis Kelsey of the Kansas City Chiefs will be joining in this hour.
Michael Vick.
Trent Dilfer, we're packed.
We'll go to Dallas.
Joy Taylor is joining me in a Monday.
Boy, it's starting to kind of sift its way out.
We're kind of starting to find believers, non-believers, for real, fake news.
We're kind of figuring the whole league out, right?
Some very telling games yesterday, yes.
Yeah, yeah.
Let's start with Dallas, Philadelphia, because that's a very telling game.
And, you know, we say there's three words, and this is why I love the NFL.
Three words mean everything in the NFL.
Well, just win Sunday or occasionally just win Thursday or Monday.
Just win your next game.
L.A. Rams, man overboard.
Sean McVeigh's overrated.
Just won Sunday.
Jalen Ramsey's great.
Defense is better.
How about the Dallas Cowboys?
You guys are all freaking out.
They can't beat legitimate teams.
And I said, just win Sunday.
Just win Sunday.
Beat the Eagles at home.
And everybody's going to be going, oh, we're pretty good.
And Dallas is pretty good.
But here we go into week eight.
They're in first place, four and three, and they're healthy.
I like where Dallas is at.
It was the perfect formula for Dallas.
This is the same team that lost to the Jets last week.
And these games were opposite games.
That's why Dallas lost that one and won this one.
They got the E lead.
This team plays very well with the lead.
Dak plays better with a lead.
They were able to rush for 190 yards.
They're very good playing with a lead, but they can rush.
And also, Philadelphia games.
them four turnovers. Amari Cooper was healthy. Their offensive tackles were healthy. Randall Cobb was
healthier. So here we are. Dallas is a team that can win a certain way. Last week against the Jets,
they fell behind. They turned it over. They couldn't run. Amari's not totally healthy. Listen, I talked to
Jimmy Johnson, the legendary coach before my show yesterday on Fox. And I said, what do you think of
Dak? And he goes, I like Dak. You go win a lot of games with Dak. He goes, I'd make
back my franchise quarterback. Now, I don't want to get in shootouts and you got to put enough
pieces around them and there's a certain way to win. And yesterday was a classic example.
The week before against the Jets, injured players, Amari's not healthy, you can't run the football,
you're playing from behind. Dallas can't win that way. There are about four teams in the NFL
right now that can just win a bunch of different ways. New England can win a lot of different ways.
Green Bay can win different ways. San Francisco yesterday looked awful offensively and they won.
has won a bunch of different ways.
There's about four of the teams in the league
that can win a bunch of different ways.
But even when Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City were healthy,
they mostly had to win shootouts
because their defense couldn't stop anybody.
And Dallas is not a team.
Baltimore's not a team.
Buffalo is not a team
that's going to play well from behind
when they can't run the football
and put a ton of pressure on Lamar Jackson,
Dak, Prescott, or Josh Allen.
They're not built for that.
And I said this Friday, even if the Cowboys had lost this game competitively, they were still fine.
They've got to buy a week and then the Giants, so they were going to get back to 500.
But I do think this morning they're kind of back.
They've edged back in barely to my Super Bowl bubble, which is always eight teams.
I think Baltimore's close to being in it.
Carolina is close to being in it.
But I think Dallas edged their way back in.
They do several things very well.
and when they play within that formula and getting a lead is a big deal for this team,
when they play within their formula, last night happens.
Now, I'm going to talk about Philadelphia after the break, but just wins Sunday.
That's it, just win.
Dallas wins last week, season over this morning, season just starting.
Cowboys getting healthier.
Great place to be.
So I want to talk about Green Bay and Aaron Rogers for a second.
He was amazing yesterday.
Didn't have his top receiver.
His other two receivers were on limited snaps.
He threw to six different people, perfect passer rating.
But I said this last week, and I believe it.
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, they're too reliant on him.
And Aaron Rogers, for the first seven, eight years in the NFL, Green Bay was too reliant.
on him. Listen, everybody wants Troy Aikman, Terry Bradshaw as their quarterbacks and Aaron Rogers.
But Troy and Terry Bradshaw had great defenses for most of their careers and great running games.
Aaron Rogers now has a legit defense in a running game. But I think Green Bay figured out a couple
years ago, hey, we're still going to ask Aaron to be Aaron maybe three throws a game or every
fourth week. But we don't want to ask Aaron Rogers because this is where resent
becomes a real thing. Kobe Bryant wants to be the man. He doesn't want to be the only man.
And Aaron Rogers would drive to Lambor, get on that team playing for eight years. And if Aaron
didn't play well, they didn't win. And what was special about yesterday is that Bucky Brooks
always calls quarterbacks in two camps. They're either trucks, they pull the team or their trailers.
They're pulled by the team. And there's about four trucks in this league. That's about it.
of them retired, Andrew Luck.
Brady, you know, even Drew Breeze now doesn't have to carry his team clearly.
Cam doesn't.
But Aaron and Mahomes, to me, have had to carry their teams.
And what's great now is this truck, maybe the best truck in the league that can carry a team.
Got a new GPS this offseason.
It got new rims, new wheels, got new engine, a big strong V8, more towing capacity.
But yesterday, some of the accessories were not quite right.
The receivers just didn't have it.
And yet he went out, Aaron Rogers, and played one of his great games ever.
And Aaron's using the F word more this year.
Fun.
It's fun to go to work and know you have a lot of talent,
but no, you don't have to do everything perfect.
And yesterday, Aaron actually was perfect.
But they don't ask him to do this every Sunday.
If you look at every Packers win this year, they've won with defense,
They won with turnovers.
They won with a running game a couple of weeks ago in Dallas.
Yesterday they won with their magician, their Copperfield, who pulls stuff out of a hat.
But you can see this.
The fun word is back.
It's fun.
Aaron after the game and his coach, he got the game ball.
Brady, a couple weeks ago, Aaron Sunday.
And this is pretty special right here now.
First time in Packer history, a guy completes a game with a perfect passer rating.
for our radio audience that's the locker room in green bay again when you ask Mahomes to be magical for three and a half hours every Sunday and for eight years when you asked Aaron to be magical on every possession what happened psychologically
Aaron starts thinking I've got to make a play I've got to add lib I can't throw the big interception and I think it affects Aaron Rogers ability I think Aaron and Patrick Mahomes believe
Patrick Mahomes is like, hey, our defense can't stop anybody.
I've got to make a big play.
I've got to be crazy.
I've got to extend the play.
And I think it affects your quarterback negatively, whereas Brady knows, I'm just going to dirt it.
I'm going to get the ball back.
We're not giving up points.
I think when you help your superstar quarterback with accessories, a running game, a pass rush, a secondary,
they don't feel like they have to extend every play.
ad lib on every third down.
You can live for another day,
cut down on the mistakes.
It's a more joyful experience.
I've never seen Aaron Rogers smile more.
By the way, he's been winning for years.
I didn't see him smile this much when he was winning his division.
You always sense there was some level a small bit of resentment.
Like, do I have to win every Sunday by a shootout?
And that's what worries me about Mahomes.
Does he have to win every Sunday by a shootout?
Because I think this Green Bay day,
team is scary good.
They can do what they did yesterday, but it's not the only way.
For the first time in Aaron Rogers' career, it's not the only way they can win.
He's perfect.
Coming up next, Philadelphia is a mess.
And my bad, I overvalued their talent.
But something else that I've seen my entire life is happening, and now it's happening
to a football team I really like, but just can't put my arms around anymore.
The Eagles. That's coming up. Plus, 50 minutes from now, Colin Wright, Colin wrong, plus
Travis Kelsey of the Chiefs before the end of this hour. Be sure to catch live editions
of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard

Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
Kear Games.
And in recognition of mental health awareness month, I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience in the mental health field
and conversations with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped.
up in the chase, that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you
hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about.
How healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hard Way.

Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

It's your responsibility to not just seek help, but to identify that you need help.
This is Mental Health Awareness Month.
Tune in to the podcast, Just Healed with Dr. J.
And take real steps toward healing, growth, and becoming your best self.
When you hear the word healing, what does that mean?
What came right back to mine are the three P's that I live by.
I'll go through the process of healing so that patience, that perseverance, and that prayer
equals healing to me.
From understanding your mental health to doing the work, we break down practical tools,
real conversations, and the mindset shifts you need to move forward and thrive.
You matter too.
Your mental health is your responsibility, not your wife, not your partner, not your children,
not the church, not the pastor, not the counselor.
your responsibility. It's time to stop putting your healing on hold and start doing something about it.

So Philadelphia got crushed last night. And for the last year or two, I've said I really like their owner.
I like their GM. I like their coach. And I think their quarterback's really, really talented.
But you know what Philadelphia has become? And I overvalued their talent. They don't really have a running back that scares you or a cornerback that scares you or a ride receiver.
fever that scares you. What happened to their pass rush? I don't know. To me, it's apathy.
And I'll tell you, ever meet somebody in life? I'll just speak from a guy's perspective. I've
met a few of these guys. They've never really gotten the big paycheck, the big bonus in life,
the corner office. And then they do one time in their life. And then they want to lecture everybody
out how to do it. Barf. Okay. Barf. Okay. Congratulations on that one Super Bowl.
Yippie, throw a parade.
You won a Super Bowl.
Your coach went out and wrote a book.
Here's how to win Super Bowls.
Really?
One?
Lane Johnson started lecturing us about how to win Super Bowls
and football should be fun.
You know when football's fun?
Not last night.
Football's fun when you win.
It's not fun when every other week you're getting blown out.
Last year, Tennessee blown out.
Carolina blow a fourth quarter league.
New Orleans blown out this year.
Minnesota blown out last night blown out.
You're 12 and 11 since your Super Bowl.
You haven't beaten the Dallas Cowboys once since your Super Bowl.
See, New England's motto is do your job.
Philadelphia's motto is, did our job once and then lectured everybody about how to win.
Stop it.
Get over yourself.
You're the high school loser, still bragging about four touchdown games in your
small town and you're 44 years old.
Get over it.
Okay?
None of those great Super Bowl moments.
Nick Foles is gone.
He was great in that game.
Frank Wright, the coach is gone.
Legerrett Blunt's gone.
A lot of the people that were very key in that win are gone.
What isn't is the stench, the ego.
And Philadelphia is always been a big, brash, loud, you know, chatter town, highly emotional.
You're seeing this in Cleveland, too, by the way.
Basically, Philadelphia is becoming Baker-Mayfield.
I feel dangerous with a ring.
One.
Lane Johnson last night after the game admitted the problems are in the locker room and ego-based.
Really, it's going to be probably a call-out session.
Everybody will be held accountable.
You know, little stuff that slides during the week, you know, late to practice,
late to meetings, you know, this and that.
Stuff will start to be held accountable for.
And I think that will maybe creep into the game.
I never, listen, Laine Johnson came on this show.
He was a nice guy.
But I never buy in a guy who's never truly successful, hitting it once and then lecturing
everybody about how to be successful.
I'm going to take the New England way.
Academic, cerebral, quiet, covert, smart, do your job.
Not loud, cocky, brash, ego, did our job once.
And now we want to brag about it to everybody.
Philadelphia, get over yourself.
You're a 500 team with five route losses since the Super Bowl.
Joy with the news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So in only his second NFL season, Lamar Jackson is putting up some amazing stats.
One of these stats is called a double triple.
You know how you love triple doubles.
What in God's name is that?
It's when a player has more than 100 yards in two or more categories.
Oh, all right.
A double triple.
A double triple.
Yep.
It doesn't quite roll off the tongue the way a triple double does,
but maybe Lamar Jackson will continue getting them so much that it will become a household stat.
He had 143 passing yards and 116 rushing yards,
and the Ravens went over the Seahawks.
He had a run down the left sideline, I swear to God.
Joy, there was nowhere to go, and seven Seahawks had a chance at him.
He looked like the fastest person on the field.
On the urge.
Yes.
It was really impressive.
So it's the fourth time he's had more than 100 yards in two different statistical categories.
Here's the run.
Yep.
God.
Yeah.
I mean, he looks faster than everyone.
He's now tied for second in games reaching that fee with only Michael Vick ahead of him.
Michael Vick has eight.
Wilson's last one was in 2014.
Peyton earned his four with receiving and rushing yards.
Hall got his with receiving yards and kickoff returns.
and ball had four with receiving and kickoff return yards.
So it's a very, like, impressive and rare stat.
And to be doing this and only a second season is really impressive.
But this is his game.
So we were all very skeptical of whether this was going to be sustainable with Lamar Jackson.
I think the Ravens deserve credit for really being able to implement his athleticism and running
with improving his past.
They're fun to walk.
I say this.
I thought that was so much fun to watch yesterday.
They're so different than every other team.
They really are.
They're very neat.
It's like watching Oklahoma run the wishbone if they played in college football today and just say, yeah, Oklahoma's 9 and 0 and they run the wishbone.
Like, it's so, you know, Mark Schlerth made a great point during this game.
It was a great point by Schlerth.
He goes, how do you practice for this?
Because you don't have any Lamar.
You can practice for pocket guys.
Right.
So first of all, it's impossible to practice with.
And Baltimore is so physical.
And you don't hit in practice like he used to.
So the first time you meet Philadelphia's Baltimore's run game is in the game.
It's not a flashy finesse spread you out.
It's a physical pound, pound, pound, pound, pound.
And you don't do that at practice in the NFL anymore.
There's no way to prepare for it.
It's really fun.
It's really fun.
So the Niners overcame some horrible field conditions in Washington to remain undefeated this season.
The field reminded Richard Sherman of the last time he played in Washington,
and he's just happy everyone came out of it unscathed.
Yeah, that was as bad as I've seen.
You know, I played in this stadium once before in the playoffs,
and it was pretty bad.
That's the year RG3 went down on the knee injury, and the field was pretty awful.
It was mostly sand.
It was like playing in the sandpit.
But today it was rain and, you know, everything was going bad.
This was not quite as interesting to watch of a game, but it was, this is my favorite part.
Doesn't it look like, though, when you watch this, Joy, it looks like 1987 television.
It does.
The Redskins throwback uni, San Francisco's all muddy.
This looks like what NFL looked like a lot in the 80s, a lot of running, trying to get out of town, win the game.
game was over fast. It was a tough win to get. And it is, it's impressive anytime you can pull that off
in conditions like that because I think I forget when we were talking about this. I think it was last
week, someone brought up, you know, do you like watching snow games? Yeah, yeah. I generally
don't. Yeah, the only time I enjoy watching a game like that is when it's just an absolute
and total blizzard because then it's impressive. But other than that, like I would prefer they
always play in good conditions because you're going to get to see everybody get their best and are not
inhibited by that. San Francisco's defense average age, 25. Four first rounders, eight guys' third
rounder earlier. This defense is nothing behind draft picks, not even on their big contracts yet.
Like, watch, this team's going to be good up front for a long time. I mean, even though it is
Washington, those conditions could sway any situation. They deserve credit for what they've been
able to do. I mean, they're undefeated. It's impressive. Finally, Illinois pulled off the biggest upset of the
college football season by taking down undefeated Wisconsin. The badgers had a nine-point lead with
just under 10 minutes remaining, but Illinois kicked a field goal as time expired to win 24, 23 to hand
the badgers their first loss of the season. And that knocked Wisconsin out of the top 10 in this week's
AP poll. They are now down at number 13. It's a really bad loss. Yeah, Badgers had allowed like 29 points
all year. They allowed 24 to that one. They're facing Ohio State next week. It's the classic looking ahead to
the biggest game of our lives.
So it goes, here's Joey's top 10.
Bama, LSU, Ohio State Clemson, Oklahoma, pens.
Yeah, I mean, I agree with all that stuff.
Notre Dame 8, Auburn 9, Georgia, 10.
I agree with that.
I think Bama is better than LSU, although 2 is hurt.
Yeah, 2 is an ankle injury.
Yeah, Oklahoma looks really good.
That's tough.
Somebody's going to lose there.
You'd probably put Oklahoma ahead of Clemson today because of performance,
but I still like Clemson.
Isn't that?
It's going to be interesting, though.
as high as everyone was on Clemson coming into the season, how it's going to play out.
They haven't trailed since Trevor Lawrence started a quarterback.
They've never trailed any game at half.
Ever.
That's incredible.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurd Lie News.
Now, top of the hour, Colin Wright, Colin Wrong.
Travis Kelsey of the Kansas City Chiefs will stop by today.
Trent Dilfer and Mike Vic next hour as well.
Before we go to the videotape, I want to say,
say this, is that I'm kind of intense.
Probably in my career, I'm easier to work with today than I've ever been.
But in my 20s and 30s, I think I just wore people out.
I wanted it so bad.
And I probably just wore people out.
And I apologize to anybody I just wore off that had the work with me.
Now I'm a day at the beach, right?
Goulet.
But the point is, listen, we spend all this time talking about what quarterbacks don't have.
That's why Deshawn Watson drops in the draft.
We should probably start talking about what quarterbacks do.
have. Lamar Jackson, there were three or four plays yesterday. I mean, this guy, it's so easy for me
to root for him. He cares so much. He wants it so much. He's so intense. And he's jumping up and
down. They won't hike the ball. I got to tell you something. Tony Gonzalez once told me,
three percent of NFL players are totally committed. Lamar Jackson wants it so bad. I like
Matt Stafford. I like Joe Flacco. But I never sense the urgency.
This is Kobe Bryant stuff.
This is Brady stuff.
This is LeBron stuff.
It's palpable.
You can sense with Lamar.
He wants it so bad.
And I think it would surprise people.
How few athletes, it's not about the money.
It's about winning the game.
And you can watch Lamar Jackson.
Hey, I'm the first to admit it.
Sometimes the ball comes out of his hand.
He threw a ball to Mark Andrews yesterday that was a screwball.
I'm not even sure how the release worked.
And he completed, what, eight, nine passes?
Yes, there's things he can't do.
But when you're a fan and your team loses,
and then immediately after the game,
guys are high-fiving or smiling on the sidelines
or they're smiling at the end of a loss at midfield,
doesn't it bother you a little?
Like when I watch Lamar Jackson, I'm like,
that's a guy who lost to Cleveland and didn't sleep for two nights.
He's angry.
And yesterday, Mark Andrews, a very good tight end, could not catch,
dropped three balls, including a touchdown.
No, no.
Lamar Jackson didn't point a single finger.
Lamar Jackson refused to be a victim.
Lamar Jackson this offseason, he listened to his critics, and he put on 15 pounds,
his traps, his arms.
This kid is going to prove all of us wrong.
And I don't know if they can win a Super Bowl.
It's so unique.
It's so different.
There are times it's so clunky throwing the ball.
But I'm going to give Harbaugh and his staff props.
But more than anything, I got to give Lamar Jackson props.
Because I just don't see, this is Peyton Manning to me.
This is Brady.
This is Kobe.
I'm not talking about talent.
I'm talking about this guy wants it so bad.
I always say this about Matt Stafford.
I know he's talented.
But is he ever pissed?
Is he ever mad?
Is he ever screaming at refs?
I never sense that.
And so much of sports is wanting it.
It's so much a life.
Be competitive.
And this kid, he'll never be Mahomes pretty.
He'll never be Aaron Rogers slick.
He'll never be, you know, Peyton Manning nine audibles.
It's not what he is.
But we spend so much time talking ourselves out of quarterbacks.
Outside of Rogers, I mean, Brady's unathletic.
Eli Manning was unathletic.
I mean, yes, he doesn't throw a pretty football.
But you know what?
On third down, I'm watching Pete Carroll, a defensive whiz.
I'm sitting a couple of those runs, I'm like, Pete Carroll's got to be sitting over there thinking,
this is Vince Young who beat me at USC when I was, remember when Texas beat USC and Pete Carroll?
Pete said it's the hardest college loss of his career.
Pete had it all figured out.
And Vince Young just, yeah, it's going to go off script.
And Pete said that's the hardest loss I've ever had.
And I'm watching that yesterday and I'm like, this is like Pete Carroll against Vince Young where coverage is good, nobody open, good pass rush.
You got a spy on Lamar.
It doesn't matter.
It makes everybody miss.
And I find them incredibly fun to watch.
I think they're the most unique team in the NFL.
But I can feel Lamar's presence.
I don't care what his stats are.
I can feel it.
He's got a three-game winning streak.
And Lamar leads the NFL in rushing in those three weeks.
It's just the craziest thing.
Here's Lamar after the game talking about going for it.
On fourth down, where he talked his coach into going for it.
I told him we need to go for it because we didn't score.
We drove the ball down the field, you know, first quarter twice, kick field goals.
Instead of bringing tuck in, I'm like, bro, no, not this time.
We're not kicking no field goal because Russell Wilson get the ball again.
And we didn't score.
It might look ugly.
So I'm like, we got to score right now.
Great, great win for them.
I love it.
God, just so unique to face.
Travis Kelsey is going to be coming up.
I do this all the time.
I have what I call a Super Bowl bubble joy.
And it doesn't matter what time of the year I do it.
It just always comes down to eight teams.
And what I mean is there's always eight teams, I believe, I feel like they could win the Super Bowl.
And then there's always a couple on the periphery.
And then there's, you know, I'll give you an example.
Indianapolis, this is a really.
really neat story, but Houston was all beat up yesterday.
And like, I don't have Indianapolis in the bubble.
But I'll tell you this morning, this was my original Super Bowl bubble this year.
I had New England, Kansas City, Houston, Green Bay, St. San Francisco, Philadelphia,
Seattle, and Dallas was just on the outside.
But again, this is why we play the games.
Games matter more.
You see trends.
You see problems that can't be fixed.
And this morning, when I have my Super Bowl bubble, once again, it feels like it
comes down to eight teams. New England, Kansas City's still in it. Don't overreact to Houston's
loss. The Chiefs and the Texans are all beat up. Green Bay, I think I put Dallas from outside in.
They have a certain formula, but they've got a couple of winnable games coming up. I'm going to
put Minnesota in. I love their roster. I love their running game. Kurt Cousins has played
back-to-back-to-back great games. I'm now going to move Carolina and Baltimore in. So Philadelphia,
Seattle, I'm just seeing things now. Seattle's been crushed twice at home.
I can't, you can't get crushed twice at home. I'm out.
Philadelphia, you've been crushed twice.
What does Philadelphia do well? Trent Dilfer said that a couple of weeks ago.
What does Philadelphia do well? So I just needed more unveiling, more truth.
Give me more things. So my bubble again, if you're listening or watching,
Kansas City, Houston, don't freak out. They'll get help.
I'm going to put Minnesota in, Green Bay, Dallas, San Francisco, Saints, New England,
and Carolina and Baltimore are close.
I don't, I don't honestly, Houston's injuries yesterday, I'm reading them here.
I'm reading them here.
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight.
They had eight players that missed part of the game yesterday, played some, didn't play.
I think Houston's fine.
I think Houston's better than Indianapolis.
I know what I saw yesterday.
Indy got healthy.
Houston was it.
It was in Indianapolis.
I think Houston's better than Indy, despite what you saw yesterday.
It was still a one-score game, and a lot of things did not go Houston's way.
Houston's still a really good football team.
So that's my Super Bowl bubble.
Travis Kelsey coming up, Colin Wright, Colin Wrong at the top of the hour.

Don't forget top of the hour, Colin right, calling wrong.
Not all losses are the same.
Not all wins are the same.
last night, there's real trouble.
I don't think they do a lot of things particularly well.
What do we take from the Rams win?
Atlanta's really struggling right now.
And I also think you have to consider injuries.
Houston lost yesterday.
Houston's a really good football team,
but they were missing multiple people yesterday.
Injuries are a huge component in the National Football League.
And with that, I want to go to Travis Kelsey,
who never misses games via the Coward Global Sattel
Network.
Do you Old Spice?
As always, Old Spice.
You're a young star
wearing Old Spice.
Let's start with this.
You have missed one game in the last six years.
Before I get to the Mahomes injury,
I watch these teams in the NFL, Travis.
You're physical, you get banged around,
and you don't get hurt.
Is there a luck component?
Is there any way?
Why do you stay healthy?
Because I see so many players
at your position getting hurt.
Man, I feel like you're throwing the Madden Curse on me.
right now. I have been extremely
fortunate. This game
comes with injury, man. It is what it is.
And that's what made me sit out my first year
was a knee
injury that I ended up having to get fixed
about midway or a quarter through the season.
And everyone deals
with injuries different, man. You never know how
a guy's feeling on the inside.
And it's always a tough gig.
But I think the biggest thing is that you,
I just want to be out there playing
the game of football, man. I love this game. I love playing
under Coach Reed and for the Kansas City Chiefs
and any chance that I can get out there
whether I'm feeling just a little sore
or I'm pushing through an injury or two.
I'm willing to be out there every single snap.
Tell me your instant reaction
when Patrick Mahomes, your guy went down.
I mean, your heart sink?
Yeah, I think it takes the life out of you
because, I mean, Pat's such a good dude.
I mean, as a person, as a fan first,
almost, of his personality of who he is as a person, man.
You just hate to see that happen to such a good dude.
And with everything that happened on the field, with him getting injured,
I mean, it's a tough situation to overcome.
I mean, it's the best quarterback in the National Football League.
Anybody would be silly to say that we didn't lose something when Pat went out.
But I think Matt Moore did an unbelievable job of stepping in, commanding the offense,
taking the game into his hands and coming out with a win.
We were saying the other day, Travis, that quarterbacks, you know, the punters, kickers, and quarterbacks, sometimes you can't hit him at practice.
So when they do get hurt, they want to prove to teammates, hey, I'm one of you.
I can play hurt.
I mean, my gut feeling is Patrick Mahomes probably told you guys, I'm going to be back.
I mean, the first time you talked to him when he got hurt, what was his initial reaction to you?
Go win this game.
I looked at him in his eyes.
He said, go win this game.
And from that point on, I was like, all right, we'll, we'll find out what's going on with
1-5 here at halftime or at the end of the game.
And hopefully he's going to be just fine, which, you know, we're still waiting to see
when he can get back out there on the field.
But the biggest thing is, you know, go out there and win this game.
You know, don't worry about what's happened.
Control, we can control, and go out here and come out of Denver with a W on a Thursday
a night football game in a rough atmosphere.
Travis, the only thing I'm concerned, and I love Andy Reid, the only thing that concerns me is
I watched the Green Bay Packers for years with Aaron Rogers, they were too reliant on Aaron.
If Aaron wasn't a magician, if he wasn't David Copperfield, they'd come up short.
And I've said the same with Kansas City.
I do worry that you put so much enormous pressure on Patrick to win shootouts that he feels he has
to scramble and have to add lib and have to make a great play.
Is it a fair criticism to say sometimes it feels this team needs Patrick to be too magical too often?
I honestly don't believe so.
I think what Pat brings to the table is his ability to do that.
So it's kind of even in a winner or a loss, you were saying earlier, it's never as good or as bad as it seems.
I think Pat is out there trying to make plays.
And his highlights are always going to show because of how special he really is.
you know, whether he's having a bad game, he's still going to have those one or two throws
where that just blows you away.
I think that kind of takes, that takes the front page more so than what everyone else has
been able to contribute on the field.
I think, don't get me wrong, he's the MVP of the league for a reason now.
This is Patrick Mahomes we're talking about.
So he's going to go out there being a competitor and trying to find any way to win a football game.
I think Coach Reed has done an unbelievable job over the course of his career,
setting everybody up to have their success, to have them kind of have,
I can't really think of the word I'm looking for,
but always be in the right position to succeed and play off of everyone's strengths.
I think Coach Reed does an unbelievable job of setting people up for success.
You know, we always call Mondays a little bit of overreaction Monday,
where we all freak out.
And I've always believed there's three words in the NFL that matter.
Just win Sunday.
It solves all your problems.
So here we go.
You play in Kansas City.
The weather gets colder.
Injuries mount.
Take my audience into how the NFL changes as you get to November.
Because in September, it's sunny.
The birds are singing.
Everybody's healthy.
And it really becomes, Travis.
It's a game of attrition now going forward.
Will it change the way you guys play?
Will you run more?
Will you change knowing that wind and lousy weather is a component in these Sunday games?
To take you through it, I think the beginning of the season,
it's a lot of anticipation of what a team's going to look like.
What's the makeup of this team going to look like?
Once you get to week four, five, six, you start to really see what a team's makeup is.
You start to be able to scheme them up a little bit more.
You see who they're trying to get the ball to.
What style of defense are they trying to play here on third downs or in the red zone?
And those are the things you start to key in on, you hone in on, is how to, how to beat teams
knowing what their makeup is.
And I think as you go further down in the season, it starts to even become, all right,
how are we going to stay true to who we are and keep winning, keep putting up these points,
but also be able to not get schemed up.
We're not just doing the same thing week and week out.
And like I said, that's where Coach Reid comes in as one of the best to ever do it, man,
because he put you in a position to succeed all year long.
Now, by the way, some players don't love Thursday games,
but I think it almost gives everybody a second buy week.
It gives you guys, and I like Thursday games as a consumer.
I also think it gives you guys a little extra time.
So you play Green Bay next.
So I imagine, unless you were busy last night,
you probably saw a little bit.
Green Bay and a little Aaron Rogers and a little bit of his magic. Does he remind you sometimes
of the guy you play with Patrick Mahomes? I think, yeah, without a doubt, his command on the field
is something I see in 1-5 as well, his ability to always feel like he has complete control of what's
going on out there. And that's special, man. That's special, especially how fast Pat got that
kind of confidence at such a young age
at this point in his career.
And obviously the way they can throw the ball
anywhere on the field at any moment is something
that you can kind of put them in the same category as.
But we're definitely going to have our hands full this Sunday
and it's going to be a, we're going to need arrowhead rocking and rolling
like it has been.
We're going to have to come out.
Those fans deserve a home win at night.
And we're going to try and give it to them.
The official sweat,
defense of the NFL Old Spice.
Check out their irrational commitment to tackling sweat in all forms, Old Spice's YouTube channel.
He's played in this NFL for seven years.
He's been a pro bowl over half of it.
He is regarded now as the best tight end in the National Football League.
And what I love, he was a third round pick.
So people overlooked you at Cincinnati and Ohio State Pry overlooked you in recruiting.
And here you are doing Old Spice commercials, crushing it.
It's got to feel great for you.
Yeah, it feels great, and I smell great.
Thanks to Old Spice and all their grooming needs.
The sweat defense, dry spray, anti-perst spring, gives you 48 hours of sweat and odor protection.
I sprayed myself on Saturday, and I still smell great, man.
It's awesome.
All right, Tras.
Good talking to you, bud.
Always.
Have a good one, guys.
All right.
Trent Dill for Michael Vic next hour.
No, I mean, it's, you know, one of the things I love about this league is,
is that it's so crazy.
Half the league is undrafted.
That's why I think the XFL is going to work.
There's 600 players out there.
There's so many good football players out there.
I watch a lot of college football on Saturday.
There's so many good quarterbacks coming up.
It's an amazing time in the NFL where it's just now, at this point, it's attrition.
It is absolutely attrition.
Can you get past Sunday?
Green Bay didn't have their top receivers, two other receivers on limitations.
Tonight, New England, we find out yesterday, won't have Josh Gordon.
I mean, that's the league right now.
Very few teams by this point are totally healthy.
Good news for the Cowboys, you're one of them.
By the way, I should mention this.
Colin, right, Colin wrong top of the hour.
One of the hardest things for guys to do.
Now, this may be easy for women.
But one of the hardest things for guys to do is admit it's not lift weight,
jump out of planes, no.
For guys, the hardest thing to do in the world is admit they're wrong.
The Chicago Bears, Ryan Pace, is a very good general manager.
A lot of good running backs, a lot of good linebackers.
They have to admit they were wrong drafting Mitch Trubisky.
As a man, I can speak for man.
It's hard to admit we're wrong.
But Deshawn Watson, Patrick Mahomes, you moved up to get.
at Mitch Trubisky.
Stop lying to yourself.
You cannot go forward with the fourth best quarterback in your own division.
Smoke and Mears.
Matt Nagy, he didn't draft him.
The general manager did.
So do yourself a favor, Ryan Pace, and admit it and draft another quarterback.
Otherwise, you're going to be Tennessee with Marcus Moriota and Miami with Ryan
Tannahill.
You're so invested in your draft pick, you can't be
honest and go, we whiffed. By the way,
Belichick whiffs in the draft.
The smartest guys in this league,
Bill Polian, Hall of Fame execs,
they miss. Parcells misses.
It's hard for guys to admit. Yeah, we just
whipped on this one. But Arizona,
by the way, Arizona said, hey,
we took a quarterback. We don't think it works.
We're out. Kyler Murray.
Arizona this morning feels pretty damn good about themselves.
The Bears General Manager has done a
very good job. This is a very good roster.
But you have the fourth best quarterback.
in your division. And a team will tell you what they think of their quarterback by the plays they
call. It is smoke. It is mirrors. It is tricks. I mean, listen, Jacksonville did this with
Blake Bortles. Remember that? They had, you know, they just, he wasn't the guy. Then they have a
perfect stack deck. And then they have one great year. And just to prove themselves right,
we're going to give him an extension. Why? That was the time you get out.
out. Sell them high. Find a sucker in the league. Yeah, Bortles is great. He got us to the
AFC championship and get out. Chicago. Hard for a dude. Admit you're wrong. You whiffed.
Get out of that space. You're going to become Tennessee irrelevant. Colin Wright,
calling wrong. On a Monday next.

I swear to God, I'm just doing so many.
I saw the new Raiders Stadium.
Joy Taylor is joining me.
It was beautiful, getting very close.
Yes, it's better than the team right now.
The stadium in Las Vegas looks very good for the Raiders.
It's beautiful.
It's big.
I don't know where they're going to park.
It's a weird stadium with no parking.
Well, I mean, I would imagine, to the most part, that's going to be a commuter.
Uber.
Stadium.
All right.
I mean, I'm sure, speaking of that, I'm sure that they're going to have a lane for that, right?
That'd be smart.
Yeah.
It's crazy.
I've seen the stadium five times.
They have nine parking spots.
I don't know.
It's the desert.
There's nothing but room.
It's like Dallas.
There's nothing but space.
Here's a stadium and nine parking spots.
Oh, they're like a garage?
Yeah, two car garage on the south end of it.
It's the craziest thing.
But it's great to have you enjoy with me on a Monday.
We do it every Monday.
You know, I have a big strong opinions, and I think it's okay for me to admit, you know what,
whiffed on that one.
And we whiffed on a few this week.
Here we go.
Colin Wright, Colin Wrong on a football Monday.
Where Colin was right.
All right, Blazing five.
First five weeks we won.
Stinker last week, we're back on the winning track.
64% for the year.
As I always say, if I can get 58%, I could be a professional gambler.
Seven weeks, six winning weeks, thanks to the Colts.
We thought they'd beat the Texans.
We thought the Rams would beat Atlanta.
and we took the Ravens to upset Seattle.
64% in the year will take it every year.
Where Colin was wrong.
You know, when Cliff Kingsbury, who got fired at his alma mater,
no alma mater wants to fire their guy, the good-looking young coach.
When they fired him, I said, so he can't win it as alma mater?
He got fired by his alma mater.
I got to tell you something yesterday.
Of all the games yesterday where I felt a coach out-coached another coach,
it was Cliff Kingsbury over Pat Shermer.
How the New York Giants could be that full.
flat after 10 days off. I don't know. But I got to be honest with you. Every week, Kyler Murray's a little
better. I think the last two weeks I've watched Arizona, they have been so multiple and so
clever scripted their plays. They've jumped out to these big leads and it's allowed them to have
some play action. And I mean, you don't see coaching mismatches in the NFL very often. You see them in
college. But I think they're improving. They started with a lot of college
principals. They're now doing a little bit less of that. But they don't have a great
offensive line, but it is not now. Their schedule does get tougher. But I don't think
if I had a, not a coach of the year, but a surprise coach of the year, it would be Cliff
Kingsbury way over my expectations. Where Colin was right? Never bought into Mitch
Trubisky. I didn't buy into the Bears last year. I don't buy them into this year. I said,
I think they're going to be the pullback team in the NFL.
Matt Nagy's having to do a bunch of nonsense tricks, smoking mirrors.
I think the front office has to admit they whiffed.
As a number two pick, I hate this word, but he's getting close to a bust.
They're last in the NFC in total offense.
They have not had a 300-yard game yet offensively.
I just don't think, with all the NFC talent at quarterback,
I just don't think this is a legitimate team.
And I don't think they'll ever be a legitimate club
and a Super Bowl contender until they get fixed at quarterback.
Where Colin was wrong.
I've been on a two-year mission telling you how good Philadelphia is.
Not only that I massively overstate the team,
but I overstated their talent.
I don't know what they do well.
Trent Dilford told me this a week ago.
They don't have a cornerback that's a second corner.
They don't have a receiver that you have to double.
They don't have a star running back.
What happened to the offensive line?
I mean, that was the best Dallas has rushed the passer all season long.
You know, they spent all this money on the D-line.
Where are the sacks?
Where is the consistent pass rush?
Their offensive lines regressed.
I'm wrong.
I've been on this train for two years.
I love their coach and their GM.
I think Carson Wentz is amazing.
But they just don't have it.
And they just don't have enough good players.
And I think they just overspent in the defensive front
because I don't see the pressure and I don't see the protection on the offensive front.
Where Colin was right?
I never understood the criticism when Dallas gave up a first round pick to get Amari Cooper.
I'm like, he's a franchise grown-out receiver and a top five route runner in the NFL.
Dallas has played 16 games with him.
They're now 11 and 5 in the games he's played.
And Dak Prescott, yes, I admit Dak Prescott needs Zique.
Dak Prescott also flourishes 11 and 5 with Amari Cooper.
He's healthy again, and he's healthy again.
is a complete difference maker for the Cowboys.
A lot of people push back.
Ooh, these gold bars known as first round picks.
Some are, but a third aren't.
So go get a guarantee to help your star quarterback.
I have no problem giving up a first round pick.
If you can give me a great left tackle, a great wide receiver, a great tight end that
helps my young quarterback who's not a superstar, but good when given an assist.
Love what Amari Cooper does.
And it's obvious he's on the field.
They're a different team.
where Colin was wrong.
The minute I fell in love with the Wisconsin Badgers,
they fell apart as a 30-point favorite
in the history of the Big Ten.
This is, if you go by lines, right?
It's the second biggest upset in Big Ten history.
Their defense, which was number one in the country
in like virtually everything,
had given up 29 points all year,
surrendered 24 to Lovie Smith,
and the fighting Aligni.
My guess is it's the classic look-ahead game with, you know, Ohio State coming up.
There's about one college football game a year.
You're just like, what was that?
Because it's not the NFL where anybody can mostly beat anybody.
In college, you got like eight teams with better players.
That was a shocker.
Where Colin was right.
Matt Stafford does it again.
11 years, no signature wins.
Yesterday, four touchdowns, 365 yards, fastest quarterback to 40,000 yards.
And they lost.
My knock on, Matt, he's a good guy with a beautiful arm.
I don't sense urgency.
Reggie Bush was on last week, and without criticizing a former teammate, he criticized him,
and he said, sometimes I'd like a little more like, hey, this play is everything.
And I saw it in Green Bay in Lambo, and I saw it again Sunday.
I get a bunch of yards, and I get a bunch of nice plays, but on those big third downs late in games,
I just, I don't sense what I saw with Lamar Jackson, what I see with Tom Brady or Drew Brees.
This, this is the end of the earth if I don't make it happen.
Like every play matters.
Every play's intense.
I don't seek it.
I think Matt's a nice guy and a nice quarterback.
But 11 years in this league and yesterday, that now defines Matt Stafford.
Massive numbers and a loss in division.
Where Colin was wrong.
Kirk Cousins, I give up.
I give up.
I don't know.
I mean, seriously.
last three games, 10 touchdowns, 970 yards,
75% completion percentage, I give up.
Only quarterback ever in three straight games to throw for 100 to 300 yards,
over 300 yards and have 130 paths or rating.
I don't even know.
I mean, I know their gifts are good.
I know their receivers good.
Dalvin Cook is, I think maybe today the best running back in football.
But if anybody can figure out Kirk Cousins,
I honestly have gotten to the point with Kirk Cousins.
I love him.
in the early window on Sunday.
But if it's like dark outside,
it's a night game or a primetime game,
I'm off him.
And literally I'm watching the moon and the stars
and what time he plays.
I can't figure him out.
Because if it's just a one o'clock game,
I mean, the guy's like Peyton Manning.
Where Colin was right?
Jacoby Brissette.
We always said he's a starting quarterback in the league.
He's not Andrew Luck.
Slow down.
He's not.
There's some limitations on the ceiling here.
But he's a grown-up.
He's big.
He moves the chains.
He's clearly coachable.
He doesn't have great weapons around him.
Let's not make excuses.
They have a very nice offensive line.
They don't have a star running back.
You know, T.Y. Hilton's a very good receiver.
He's not Julio Jones.
Jacoby Brissette is a professional.
It's like I say about Dak Prescott.
He's a professional.
Alex Smith.
He's a professional quarterback.
The time, the details.
I really like Jacoby.
Now, I do think he's going to end up meeting
a New England defense or a Patrick Mahomes,
ain't not going to win a shootout.
But for years and years, you know, everybody was all into this,
oh, they're going to fall off.
When Andrew Luckertired, I said, oh, no, no, no, no, no.
They'll be eight and eight or nine and seven.
They're not going to be 12 and 4.
They're not going to be 13 and 3.
But you can get to the playoffs.
You can fight for a wild card.
You can win a division with Jacoby Brissette happy for the kid.
Where Colin was wrong.
I have always been a fan of the bigger, stronger athlete.
I follow recruiting.
But there are these outliers like Jose Al Tuve who basically the Astros paid $15,000 to sign him because everybody said he was too small.
You can't get that guy out.
And the power that he's able to generate the Astros again in the World Series against the big, mighty Aaron Judge and the Yankees, here's tiny Jose Altuve doing it again.
168 with a heart of a lion sends it over the wall and left for a pennant winning home run off six four and a half
the Yankee pitcher eraldus chap yeah who throws like gas it's amazing there's a dust and pedroia thing going on here he's got a small strike zone generates a lot of power uh that guy's story is unbelievable there's a lot of russell wilson there that you know
If this kid is not 5, 6, he's 5, 8 and a half.
We're like, oh, yeah, let's draft him.
Instead, he basically had to beg his way to get on a roster,
and now you can't get him out.
And he's always great in these big games.
Where Colin was right.
Josh Gordon is out for New England tonight.
Monday night football.
Yeah, so is tight-end Ryan Izzo for the Patriots.
And yet they're a 9-point favorite.
Tonight, Tom Brady, will be throwing to rookies,
undrafted college cornerbacks, undrafted nobody's,
They're 6-0.
Belichick, the one thing he doesn't draft well, wide receivers.
And once again, Tom Brady is going into a big game with nobody outside of Julian
Edelman to throw to.
It's why I've always said Brady is better than Peyton Manning.
Peyton Manning had Edgerman James and Marvin Harris.
There's all sorts of, I mean, there was Dallas Clark, I got Reggie Wayne, I got Tom Brady
tonight.
if Julian Edelman twists an ankle, he could.
I may get a text from Belichick.
They have nothing offensively.
And they're a nine and a half point favorite over a Jets team that controlled the Dallas Cowboys last Sunday.
It's in New York.
That's what separates him.
It is unbelievable what he has to work with.
Nothing.
It's duct tape.
It's Bondo.
It's ridiculous.
And Josh Gordon is out tonight.
All right.
Dilfer's around the corner. Lots of things to discuss. Some really interesting games. Baltimore,
clobber Seattle and Seattle. And Dallas dominates Philadelphia. And Aaron Rogers, the magic is back.
What do we make of the Rams? It's all coming up with Trent after this.

We had a Super 6 NFL jackpot winner on Sunday.
Congratulations to Lewis from Houston, Texas.
Yeah.
That's six out of six picks correct and took home $250,000 of Terry Bradshaw's money.
Wow.
Yep.
So download the Fox Sports Super Six app and play Super Six for your chance to win $250,000 next Sunday.
It's pretty cool, right?
How great's that?
It's amazing.
$250,000.
I'm sitting at home.
I bet football games a quarter million dollars.
You know Bradshaw doesn't need that money anyway.
Terry's got horses and cattle and stuff like that.
He can do without that money.
All right.
Crazy game last night.
all break it down. My guy, 15 years in the NFL, a Super Bowl, a Pro Bowl, Trent and Dill for
via the Coward Global Satellite Network. So, Troy, Trent, let's get, forget the Cowboys for a second.
We talked about them. I want to zone in on a team that I've been buying stock on this team for
two years, Philadelphia. And I said this about an hour ago. I watch them. I don't see the special.
You told me a week ago, what do they do well? So I watched that game last night thinking,
okay, I'm going to find what they do well. I don't see a lot of juice. I mean,
Everybody's blaming Wence.
Who do you blame?
I blame the lack of juice.
Well, two things.
I think their bigs are different.
Defensively, especially.
They don't have the same type of pass rushers.
They don't have the same type of bigs on the defensive line that you can rotate in and out and really create havoc for the opposing offense.
And then you said the word, they don't have juice.
They don't have anybody that can take an eight-yard throw and turn into a 30-yard throw or play without Deshaun Jackson.
They have what I call target receivers.
They have guys that can go out there and be big targets.
Whatever distance you throw the balls, the distance you're going to get on the play.
When your biggest plays are coming from your tight ends, that's a problem offensively.
They don't have a runner that can find a little crease and, you know, block it for three and he turns into 13.
Everything Carson Wentz gets, he earns.
I actually thought he played really well at times last night.
Create a lot of offense on his own.
But it's going to be really hard to be consistent, to consistently score points when your quarterback has to work that hard.
for it. So like I said last week, I think the Eagles are an almost team. You know, they're almost
going to be good. They're going to be a 500-type team and the Cowboys are significantly better than
them and they showed that last night. Let's talk Dallas now. They are better. And can I just say this?
They've got more special players. Simple as that. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's that and when those
special players play. I mean, last week we talked about how there's no excuses in the NFL, but there are
reasons. And there are reasons that the Cowboys offense were struggling. You lose both tackles.
Mari Cooper goes out five minutes in the last game.
Randall Cobb doesn't play.
You're talking about some really good football players.
You know, maybe arguably the best tackle in football,
one of the premier right tackles in football,
one of the top 15 receivers in Amari Cooper
and one of the best slots in Randall Cobb that aren't going to play.
It's going to be hard, again, to be explosive and be consistent.
So now you get everybody back.
You're at home.
Your defense has an advantage.
They're getting the ball back for you.
This is exactly what you would expect from a Cowboys offense
When they're running on all cylinders, they're going to be a problem for people.
Yeah, when they play with a lead and run downhill, they're pretty tough.
You know, I was saying, you see this in the NFL a lot.
The hardest thing to do for a guy isn't lift weights or jump out of planes.
It's admit we're wrong.
And it is hard for a general manager who moves up to get a quarterback to go, I whiffed.
And I look at Chicago, and I don't like the word choke, and I don't like the word bust.
So I'm not going to use either.
But it's smoke and mirrors with Trubisky.
Is it, is it, are we being unfair?
Am I being unfair to say?
doesn't work. Let's move on. Let's draft another quarterback.
No, you're not being unfair at all. And I call it the love button dilemma.
And what I mean by that is every GM, every coach has a love button. There's that player that
they just love. They're going to give them every, every opportunity to succeed. They're going to
give them a longer leash than others. And I think that's exactly what you see with Trubisky in
Chicago. It has 31 starts now. He's got an innovative coach. He's got talent around them.
You know, you really can't make excuses for there's no reasons why he shouldn't be successful now, except for the fact that he was overdrafted.
He had about 500 plus throws in college.
He hadn't developed as a player.
Just so you have context, most of these young guys are having success when they get in the NFL.
They have 1,500 plus attempts in college.
It's just the amount of quarterback they've been able to play, both in practice and in games, preparing them for the next level.
Trubisky didn't have that.
They should have known that there was going to be some serious growing pains.
And you're seeing him right now.
He's just a guy that he's a pick and stick guy.
And when you don't dial up the perfect play,
when things aren't just right for him from a progression standpoint,
then he's going to duck his eyes and go try to scramble around.
And sometimes that makes you laugh,
but most of the time it makes you cry.
And I don't think you're being unfair.
I think this was a love button dilemma.
They fell in love with Mitch Trubisky through the draft process and they overdrafted him.
I want to move, obviously.
see Aaron Rogers is a magical player, but I lean on you in situations like this,
because schematically you're a coach, you play the game.
So beyond the errands really talented, what are you seeing with Green Bay?
His job's easier.
And when you give a once in a generation talent an easier job, watch out because he's just
going to do even more special things.
And I'll try to do this as quickly as possible.
But if you look at them from a three-phase football team, okay?
they are significantly better on special teams.
And we don't talk about special teams enough,
but their net pun average,
their field goal percentage,
they're starting average.
All those things are significantly better this year
under Matt LaFleur and his leadership.
Defensively, they're getting the ball back quicker
and putting it into Aaron's hands faster.
They're creating more turnovers.
Penalty yards.
Now, this is a global number you look at for head coaches.
They've gone from last and penalty differential
to first in yardage.
So they're very disciplined when it comes to penalties.
So all this together makes Aaron's job easier.
When his job is easier, he goes from great to possibly one of the greatest.
Last year, it was 35 plays.
It was, okay, Aaron, go put on the Superman cape and try to do special things and create
offense for us.
Now they're creating an offense for him.
And there's a lot of gimmies in these games.
There's a lot of run action, freebies where he's just kind of flicking it out and getting
12, flicking out and getting eight, and then all of a sudden they get a running back matchup on a
linebacker and it's 35 and it's a ton. So his job is significantly easier than it's been in the past.
And by lightning that burden for him, now you're seeing the fullness of who Aaron Rogers can be.
I said I was going to give Kyler Murray a year to judge him. I, you know, he's learning to play
quarterback. He was a baseball guy first. He only started for one year in college. But I'll break my
rule here, I think
Kyler Murray's going to work. I watched
him again. There's a little
Russell Wilson, they both played baseball.
It's a very accurate thrower. I think
it's going to work. What say
you? I totally
agree. I think
he's got a unique
trait. And anytime somebody
has just that unique trait, so let's call
Tom Brady's precision.
Let's call Aaron Rogers
Armed Talent. For Kyle
Murray, it is Twitch.
He has elite Twitch, some of the best ever.
And because of that, he can do things that most guys can't.
And this is the offense that is going to lean on that.
He's going to have to be twitchy in the pocket.
He's got to be twitchy with his mind.
He's got to be twitchy as a runner.
He's got to be twitchy everywhere.
And he does it.
He can play traditional quarterback at times, but he can play new age quarterback.
I do think there's going to be extreme highs and extreme lows.
As this offense is being introduced to the NFL, this air rate offense,
you do take a lot of risk, a lot of open edges.
You put a lot of burden on that quarterback.
But man, the ceiling is so high.
And it's just going to be a matter of managing the floor.
If they can manage the floor, don't let those lows become too low.
I think nothing but great things for this offense to be introduced to the NFL
and for Kyle Murray really to be the poster child for how explosive it can be.
Finally, I do a Super Bowl bubble and I put Dallas back into it.
And I just took Philadelphia out of it.
I've seen Seattle crushed twice at home.
I took them out of it.
So here's my Super Bowl bubble.
And it's New England, Kansas City, Houston, Green Bay, Minnesota Saints, Dallas, San Francisco.
Am I crazy?
You're great.
Colin, what happened to the Golden Days when we would sit in Bristol in your cave and you were a wise man and tree tops?
And you didn't knee-jerk react.
You didn't watch first take.
Like, everything was very thoughtful and it wasn't week to week.
and we talked about year-long storylines.
And now you're like everybody else, man, knee-jerk reaction, in, out, wishy-washy.
This team's bad.
This team's good.
I mean, come on, brother.
What has happened to you?
Yeah.
You don't like Dallas's Super Bowl bubble yet?
I like them.
But, I mean, every week you're going to throw somebody in there and somebody out of there.
And two weeks, the Eagles can be back if they get off for a couple weeks.
No, I gave up on them.
I gave up on the Eagles.
I was wrong.
I listened to you.
Then I watched them.
I'm done with them.
I am done.
Put Minnesota.
in there, if they're not in there.
Minnesota's a team. Think of the 2015
Broncos. Do your comparisons
when Kubiak was there, defense,
offense, the style of offense,
all that stuff, and compare them to this
Vikings team. I think you're going to find a lot of
similarities. All right. Trent Dilfer.
Lipscomb Academy, head
football coach, Nashville, Tennessee, which is a great
American city. Good to see anybody.
Thanks, buddy. Yeah. Minnesota's
weird because I'm such a fan of quarterbacks.
And, you know, I said earlier,
I just give up on Kirk Cousins. I can't figure.
out. Like, if he plays at 1 o'clock, I love him. If it's a night game, I'm petrified of him.
So there's where we are with Kirk Cousins. All right, here is Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Well, the Falcons can't seem to catch a break this season. They extended their losing streak
to five games with a 37-10 loss to the Rams. But the other bad news for Atlanta is that Matt
Ryan left the game in the fourth quarter with an ankle injury. He was seen in a walking boot,
after the game and we'll have an MRI today to determine the severity of the injury,
but early reports of the Falcons don't think that it is serious.
But in bigger news, congrats the Rams for getting a nice win.
It is Atlanta, but they looked impressive and their defense especially, five sacks.
Yes, and with Jalen Ramsey on Julio Jones, they also, Todd Gurley and Gough had a nice little
connection.
You know, here's the thing is that their division's really, really tough.
But when Akeeb Taleb comes back,
with Jalen Ramsey. I mean, Ramsey allows them to basically take the best receiver out of the game.
And then their defensive line, Dante Fowler, Aaron Donald, could make life a little uncomfortable.
They're a flawed team, but they just weren't as bad as we thought they were against San Francisco.
For the record, San Francisco shut out the team they played this week.
San Francisco is going to make a lot of teams. Baker Mayfield's not that bad.
The Niners made Baker Mayfield look pathetic and golf looked pathetic, and neither one is.
That's more of a credit to the 49ers being a great team.
They're still undefeated.
And that's important that the team that they're beating.
But, yeah, I mean, you could see the impact of Jalen Ramsey right away.
Yes.
Five sacks, one interception, one fumble return for a touchdown.
I mean, and as Sean McVeigh said, on a short week coming in and learning the game plan and being able to have an impact like that is huge.
And that's why I don't love hoarding up a bunch of draft picks because, as you said earlier, you don't know what you're getting in the draft.
There's so many busts.
There's so many whiffs in the draft.
Why not trade away those picks and get a known commodity, a reliable high-talent guy who's going to have an impact right now?
Don't give up on the season.
There's a lot of football left.
Listen, if I was the Cleveland Browns and I could get a left tackle, I'd give up two first-round picks.
When it's a position of need, the Rams, Peters, although he was great yesterday, Marcus Peters was no longer listening and a key to leave got hurt.
so you're getting a star player at a massive position of need.
I've said it before.
If I'm the Cleveland Browns,
whatever it takes to get Baker-Mayfield protection left side,
I'd give up three first-right.
I don't care.
No.
Speaking of a team that did that,
that was the Houston Texans.
Jacoby Brissette is showing the NFL.
The Colts aren't going to be that bad without Andrew Luck.
They don't need him to necessarily be successful.
He finished with 326 yards, four touchdowns,
no interceptions, and a pass the rating of 126.
326 are the most passing yards of his career.
And then 126.7 is the best passer rating of his career.
The Colts are now 4 and 2 and 1st in the ASC South.
That said, Deshawn Watson was sacked three times yesterday.
Yeah.
And Cleveland, I mean, Houston had their opportunities.
It's just one of those games.
You're on the road.
Division rival.
You're not healthy.
A lot of guys banged up.
It's nothing to overreact to.
But you've got to get the Colts credit.
They are playing great.
And being on top of the AFC South when you're coming into a season
that everyone thought was lost is tremendous.
We also know the Colts, well-coached teams are generally tough out of buys.
So here's the Colts, healthy, off a buy, at home.
Houston on the road again.
This was one of my favorite bets.
This is just one of those games for Houston.
If you don't want it, you'd have flown home thinking, we stole one.
This game was built for Indie to win at home off a buy.
And Indianapolis is so good in the trenches.
Yes.
Oh, God.
Their offensive lines fantastic.
Amazing.
And young.
You're not paying in-I-M-Dardt and kids.
Yeah.
Finally, the Saints continue to prove that they don't need their stars to win.
They had no Drew Grease and no Alvin Kamara, and they rolled to a 36-25 win over the Bears.
Bridgewater threw for 281 yards and two touchdowns to become 5-0 as a start of this season.
But he might be returning to his backup roll as soon as this week because Drew Grease is set to return to practice this week and hopes to be able to play Sunday against the Cardinals.
Let me ask you this.
If you're a team that has good players, if you're the Chicago Bears,
don't you just give them a three-year deal at the end of the year?
Teddy Bridgewater with that defense and Matt Nagy, I would give, listen,
the Saints can't pay for Bridgewater and Breeze.
You can't have $40 million in quarterback salary, right?
And if you're the Saints, you still have two good years with Breeze left.
I would, the Saints are in an interesting spot here.
If I'm the Saints and Breeze comes back, if I'm Chicago in the offseason,
I go get Teddy Bridgewater.
With that defense and those running backs,
I think you've got to make a move.
Instead of trying to develop another quarterback in Chicago,
go get Bridgewater.
Because New Orleans can't pay both those guys.
Can't.
And Teddy Bridgewater has played himself back into a starting position.
Absolutely.
And that's not to discredit how great the rest of the team is.
The support around him is obviously incredible.
But with Teddy Bridgewater,
everyone just hasn't seen him,
forgot that he's a starting quarterback.
That's just what happened.
He had a major injury and everyone was afraid of what that meant.
And the Saints have been incredibly lucky to have him there because he's, I mean,
he's 5 and 0.
It's incredible what he's been able to do.
And this game felt like one of those games.
Like, you know, you're going to Chicago, you're looking down the win loss.
Like, you know, if they lose that one, it's not that dramatic.
Like, that's a tough place to get a win.
That defense is incredible.
And they go in there and roll them.
And, I mean, to me, I feel like just.
let him finish before the buy.
If you have the Cardinals and you have the buy,
now that the Cardinals are an easy out or someone that you need to overlook,
but he's been playing tremendous,
and why not just wait until Drew Breed is 100%.
Give him an extra two weeks.
And then you're good for the rest of the season.
But, yeah, I mean, I agree with you that, I mean,
the Bears should consider it for sure.
But, you know, then that's them admitting that they blew it on Trubisky,
and that's a lot.
Teddy Bridgewater and Trubisky, it's not close.
That's not even close.
No, it's not.
Not even close.
But, I mean, when pride is on the table.
Pride before the fall.
We see this all the time, though.
Yeah.
I mean, look at the, you were talking earlier about, do you want to be the Tennessee Titans?
You want to be the Tennessee Titans or you want to be, you know, dolphins with Ryan Tannahill,
and now the Tennessee Titans have married to Anteanahill.
God, it's a mess.
You just make yourself irrelevant if you can't admit you're wrong and move on.
You've got to do it.
Look at the Cardinals did it.
Yep.
We were very suspicious and critical of how that was going to work out.
Arizona is going to lose some games because their schedule gets tough, but they're a fun watch.
The stadium now is full.
I mean, they're building for the future.
Yep.
They made moves to the future.
Yep, Joy of the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

His name is Michael Vic. 13 NFL seasons, four pro bowls, a comeback player of the year.
It's interesting. People forget this. You were a running quarterback. You lasted 13 years.
Yeah.
So I know Lamar can last. But Michael, you were a natural thrower of the football. You were more Kyler Murray.
There are limitations to Lamar as a thrower. But do you think this is,
sustainable. What do you see that you like?
I think it will be
sustainable for
as long as Lamar can handle this load.
And I think it'll be up to him
and as coaches to come together
and figure out, okay, you know,
how's your body feeling? Do you feel like
we're doing too much? Is this overload as
far as the run game? And as he gets
older, I think he'll make
more suggestions as far as
what he should do in the run game,
how much run game he should be
a part of, and
just naturally let the offense evolve.
And, you know, with age, he's not going to want to take some of the hits that he's taking.
You know, when your first, second, third year player, you know,
you tend to take those hits and shake them off.
And you get up almost feeling as if you're a running back.
And I know Lamar feels that way I can tell by the way he runs.
I can tell by the way he entertains every Sunday.
And it's just in him right now.
You're not going to take it away.
As he gets older, he'll make those changes.
but, you know, 13 years, you won't feel the same as when you're in your third year.
Yeah.
Like, I think it's an interesting point.
Early in your career, you do feel like a little bit of a running back.
Yeah.
And then you decide, I don't want to be a running back.
I want to be a quarterback.
I don't like to use the word choke because I think, you know, I just don't like it.
I mean, it feels mean.
Yeah.
And I don't like to use the word.
For harsh work.
Yeah.
And I don't like the word bust for athletes.
But I've seen enough of Mitch Trubisky after 30 games.
Yeah.
Mike, it doesn't work.
It's too much.
any tricks. Like, Lamar Jackson
may have a lower ceiling throwing the
ball, but it's dynamic
athletically. Like everybody does what, and there
are other guys, flackle for a long time. I loved
his arm, but he couldn't move. I
feel like Trubesky, it's over. Am I too
harsh? No, and
I like the word
bust, because bus was a word
that motivated me, and
it should have motivated every other
first round pick
that came out in the history of the NFL.
Because if you
you don't do your job, and you get taken in the first round,
they're taking you because they are going to hold you to a higher standard.
Yes.
The standard that's been set.
For a number two pick?
Yes.
And you have to live up to that standard.
You have to scratch and claw to make sure that you do everything so that term,
that word, bus is not labeled on you.
So I like that word.
It's not being too harsh.
It's the pressures and the realities of playing the quarterback position.
And it's what people like us want to see.
How many years did you high school,
quarterback?
Three and a half.
Okay, so you were a three and a half year starting high school.
And then you went to Virginia Tech and you started for two and a half or three?
Two years.
Okay, so you had five and a half years of starting quarterback.
And then you sat for a year in the NFL mostly.
Yes.
I think a lot of Trubisky is he didn't have, he hadn't played enough quarterback.
You know, I always thought that was the issue.
I questioned that when he came out and, you know, he all of a sudden came on the scene and was, you know, being talked about as being the first round pick.
And I'm like, well, how much experiences this guy having?
12 games.
One year, I'm like, wow, the game has really changed.
Or it's a general manager out there who sees something that you and I didn't.
You and I didn't.
People don't see.
So I thought that was real interesting and it's kind of showing up.
You know, but I will say this, you know, bear with Mr. Dubiskey.
Give them to the duration of the season to the end of the season because you never know he might go on an eight game one street.
Tim Tebowl one seven straight.
I don't know if that's likely, but it's possible.
How much of Philadelphia's issues now?
I don't love their offensive line.
They're not getting sacks.
Right.
But at some point, Carson Wentz, fumbles.
Yeah.
Is it on Carson a little?
Yeah, Carson has to take the onus.
It's not on anyone else.
I think the system is still the same.
I don't think it changed too much since Nick Foes left.
But, you know, Carson and the fumble in the first quarter and, you know, the first
fumble.
His fumble is something that could have been
controlled. I know he's trying to
throw the football in the pocket. Can do
anything about, you know, the receiver
fumbling, finding
themselves in a deficit, and that was
self-inflicted. That was on him.
And when you make those type
of mistakes in the game, you've got to find a way to
dig yourself out there hole. And I don't care
what it takes. You better be on your
A game. Your focus better be on a
severely high level, and you have to
change. So this loss,
is on
cost and wins.
He was a little wiry yesterday.
I never looked comfortable.
I know he was playing
from a deficit,
but that was created by him.
That's life.
Yeah, that's the quarterback position.
You know, when I,
it's interesting,
I always say,
you guys want to be the man,
you don't want to be the only man.
Right.
So I always felt for eight years
that Aaron Rogers
drove to Lambo and knew
he had to play great.
Absolutely.
And I watch him now,
and even though he was great yesterday,
I feel like,
now they're asking him to be magical,
once a month.
Yeah.
Seven throws.
Yeah.
And I watched Green Bay yesterday, and Mike,
they're there, yesterday, they had not won this year like that.
A couple weeks ago against Dallas, it was Aaron Jones.
What are you seeing with Aaron in the system?
I love what they're doing.
And within this system, and for any quarterback,
it's going to take a while to get adjusted in-game experience
to make the magical plays that, you know,
you used to seeing a guy make.
He hasn't practiced this offensive.
scheme versus, you know, any other opponent other than his defense that he played against all spring and summer.
Right.
That he practiced against.
So you get out, you know, regular season starts and you've seen all these different looks and you look, you got all these plays and concepts.
You're trying to figure out what really works.
So it takes some time.
And I like this for Aaron Rogers right now.
We all used to cut on the TV and want to see him, you know, just bring that magical show each and every week.
Yeah.
The things that we knew he could do.
but, you know, we shouldn't hold them to the high standard.
Not every, you can't do this every week.
Yeah, it's just not realistic.
It's unrealistic.
And now he has a system.
He got players around him, got the defense.
And I like this for him.
Now he can be comfortable, come in to a game and make seven or eight plays.
It's going to be game-changing plays and be a difference maker for his team.
Yeah.
By the way, when I'm watching Dak last night, just go back to you,
there are certain throws that Mike, a quarterback is comfortable making.
Aaron loves the back shoulder.
You can just see when he throws the back, you know, like even in the NBA,
Michael Jordan had three stock moves.
Kobe would be better, you know, like LeBron's better left than going right.
Everybody's got their stock things.
When I watch Dak, there are certain throws to Amari Cooper up the sideline.
And I watch Dak and I'm like, oh, that's just, that's right in his wheelhouse.
That's his best throw, the fade.
The fade.
The fade.
And I think it's a great route that Amari Cooper has learned to run.
but that gets the ball up and he always places the ball in the same spot
and always seems that it happens in the same spot on the field every time every week
when they connect on that type of route but something that you could tell they practice
and I like what that press got in Dallas Cowboys did yesterday
bouncing back after losing three in the road that's the team that you know we know
that they can be consistently though by the way Dallas plays better leading than trailing
explain to our audience for a young quarterback
and DAC is still young,
the difference between playing 14-0
and playing trailing 14-0.
Well, when you're up 14-0,
you know, you can pull certain things out of the playbook.
And it's plays that coaches have that they won't run,
but you're up 14-0-and-and-it's like,
why not, let's do it, let's give it a shot.
And that play might work,
and it's a surprise everybody, and you're happy.
And coaches look like a genius,
the players look great.
Right.
When you're playing from a deficit,
you almost have to go into two-minute mode.
You can't run the football.
You can't kill clock.
You know the other team is going to get the ball again.
And the objective is to not let them score.
So the pressure is on the offense,
and there's enough pressure coming into a game within itself.
So now you have this extra pressure
where your offensive game playing kind of goes out the window,
and then, you know, you're in pass happy mode,
and now the opposition knows that.
So the defense ends, peel their ears back,
and they rush the pass.
Yeah, do you ever have a game in the NFL where you were like six minutes in, you buried the playbook and just you had to just start over?
I'm pretty sure that was.
You know, I played in so many games, but I can't remember ever being down 14 nothing.
I know I probably was down more than that.
Well, I will say this.
In 2011, after the lockout, we came back into the season and things wasn't going as well for us.
And we was down every game.
So, yes, we played Buffalo and they went up 21-0.
Yeah, they went up 21-0.
And we scrapped the playbook.
We had to just improvise and go into two-minute mode.
We changed the dynamic of the game.
We lost 28-24.
But you had to basically say-
But we had to abandon it.
It was no ground game.
It was no LaShawn McCoy.
It was over.
I mean, you know, run past the football.
And if I had made plays in the run game, then that's what it was.
Yeah, Mike, good seeing you, bud.
I've seen you, too.

covered the Cowboys for 16 years.
in Dallas's entire life.
I always enjoy his perspective.
His name is Matt Mosley,
and he is joining us on a Monday
after a nice win for the Cowboys
via the Coward Global Satellite Network.
Let's start with this.
Could I make the argument, Matt?
Last week, they weren't healthy,
and they didn't win,
and this week, they're healthy.
And when Dak has his tackles and Mamari,
health is a big determining factor
on this Dallas team.
I think it's huge.
I think you can make that argument.
And I think the fact that all of those guys came back, except for Anthony Brown, was enormous.
And I think Dak was trying to, you're seeing it right now.
He was trying to send a message last night.
When they let Dak run, even a few times, five times, he sort of puts his imprint on this team.
But the numbers you saw last night, Colin, 239, one touchdown.
It did have one interception.
That's where he needs to be.
When he's up around 400, 450 yards passing, that's really not the way this team
operates best. Last night was when they are at their best, when they're grinding out with Zee.
And then you saw what he did to Malcolm Jenkins. That was a huge statement. And by the way,
that Peterson, a lot of things worked in their favor. The Peterson guarantee did. And they also
rallied around that head coach. Well, you asked me about Garrett all the time. They rallied around
him. And I think all this talk about would they fire Jason Garrett, this team sort of actually uses
that to come together. And it happened again in last night's game.
You know, Matt, it is interesting with Jason Garrett. Sometimes fans want raw, raw coaches.
That always sells well. Pete Carroll, Mike Tomlin. But in the end, when I look at Jason Garrett,
if I just said to you, forget the game by game analysis, Jason Garrett has won two of the last
three divisions with Dak Prescott, one of them as a rookie. I always feel like the Cowboys are
prepared. I don't think he's a great motivation.
I don't think he's a great, you know, he's not a clever, you know, play designer like an Andy Reid.
But I look at him and I think cerebral, no chaos under control.
What is your favorite Jason Garrett quality, Matt?
And what does occasionally bother you?
Well, I think some of the things that bother you, you also like about him.
He never changes.
He's unflappable, whether they're 3 and 0 or 3 in 3.
people would like to see some more anger.
I wrote a column last week.
I saw how Witten behaved on the sideline.
I still think if they fired Garrett after this year that Jason Witten would actually be in play.
That is someone that would inspire this fan base so that this demeanor that he has on the
sideline.
People wonder what he does now.
Kellen calls the plays.
Chris Richard calls the defense.
He has a very sort of walk-around head coach demeanor.
And even there's a ton of walk-around head coaches in the league.
but those coaches sometimes lose it on the sideline occasionally.
We go crazy around here if he throws the challenge flag in an aggressive manner.
That's funny.
You know, Dax's an interesting study here.
So, you know, Joy and I always talk about this is, and I asked Jimmy Johnson about this off the air, the legendary coach.
And Jimmy said, oh, I like Dack.
And the first thing he said is work ethic, grown up, trustable, coachable adult.
in Dallas this morning, if I said, take your typical cowboy fan, and I said, you're going to pay him $33 million a year.
Would they freak out?
Because I think that's the number.
I think that's really going to land.
Would they freak out or would they be okay with that with that?
You know, today they're listening to that Post Malone song that says like touchdown, Dak Prescott.
They're excited around here.
They can stomach to $33 million.
Give this the by week.
They go there and stumble against the Giants.
They'll say, oh, about $15 million.
year works. This
fan base does
love the leadership qualities,
but again, they also love
the daring do, the
Romo thing. Boy, there was a love, hate
thing there. It was a very,
so this is a week-to-week
fan base. Their emotions are all
over the place. I promise you, Colin.
Now, once they started winning, this thing
was front-running last night, but there was a
huge part of this fan base that wanted
them to lose last night, because
there was a thought that they might throw
Jason Garrett overboard during the by week.
Last year, they were three and five, and he fired the old line coach, and he made a move,
and he made that move for Amari Cooper.
There was a, there was desperation in the air.
Today, everybody's happy again.
And the thought is, the good thing for them is this division looks dreadful.
Maybe Philadelphia will figure it out, but they look, really, I saw your tweet today.
I mean, that's a, that looks like kind of a talentless slop out there.
I mean, what in the world were we watching last night?
This was not an Eagles team.
Who were these linebackers?
You remember the great Trotter?
Remember these big dudes that used to come up the middle, up that zero gap?
Who are these people?
Gary, he looks like a long snapper out there.
The guy making all those tackles?
I mean, this is not an Eagles Super Bowl team.
So the Cowboys should be able to get through this division, fine, but they may have to do it like in nine and seven or ten and six fashion.
This is not a team, I believe, that's going to go.
sprinting into the playoffs.
You know, finally, Matt Mosley does a great job, columnistpressbox.com, the Doomsday Podcast,
which is sensational, by the way, and also 16 years covering the Cowboys.
From the very beginning, I like the Amari Cooper move.
And I said, listen, I'm not saying that Zeke isn't really important.
But I got to tell you, when Amari's healthy, they're 11 and 5.
And he is now, what I like about him, he's one of the best route runners.
DAC needs to trust his wide receiver.
I think you can make an argument that Amaris is valuable to DAC as Zika is to DAC,
or am I being hyperbolic here?
Well, no, if you look at last year, that's when the thing took off.
They were three and five.
They were desperate team, and this guy is a smooth route runner.
He may be the best route runner in the NFL.
There are better wide receivers.
There are more athletic wide receivers.
But the way he gets in and out of cuts, and that poor guy, Rassul, Douglas, I think it was last night.
Oh, my goodness.
He sat on the slant, and then he just went right by him.
And then if you put the ball in there, he's going to make the play.
He was only probably 80%, 85%, and still the Eagles had no shot.
So I think you could make an argument.
I'm not going to say more important, but it's 50-50.
And that's saying something because this was a Zik-based offense.
Everything was off this run game for the first three years of their careers.
Amari has changed that.
So I'm not going to say he's more important than Zique, but he's.
He's right there.
He is right there.
I don't love hypothetical questions, but I got to give you this with Jason Garrett.
Let's just, and I agree with you, I don't know if Pat Schumer's the right guy.
Washington's in Rebuild Mode.
In Philadelphia, their schedule gets worse now.
So let's say Dallas wins the division mad at 9 and 7, and they can't win a playoff game
because, let's be honest, Green Bay is better, New Orleans may be the best team in the NFL.
So let's just say Dallas wins their division.
it's a bad division and won and done in the playoffs.
Now the hypothetical, what do you do with Jason Garrett?
What happens?
I mean, Jerry's gut, what he would love to do is go ahead and sign him to about a 10-year extension.
But what he would do, the fan base won't take it anymore.
He will throw him overboard if that's the case.
Under that scenario, he's gone.
Then we can have some fun with, is it Lincoln Riley?
Do they go get the great Matt rule from my alma mater?
What do they do?
that's the next question because I don't think there's a head coach on this step but then the next time I mean if you have me on again the Witten thing is interesting to me that's where this thing may eventually go we just got to see when that happens but Witten wants to coach in this league and he's not back here just to be a player he's got some player coach to him right now yeah by the way we say send our best Matt to you your family and everybody in Dallas what a lot of the TV audience did not know
last night, frightening tornadoes in your city.
You told me during the break, your family's okay.
No fatalities in Dallas we hear this morning?
Yeah, that's the word.
So we're good about that, but it is weird to be covered a game
and then see pictures of your family in closets, you know, hanging.
We're not like Oklahoma.
We don't have all these underground things that we build here.
So everybody just gets under cushions and does the best,
kind of like what you'll do during the earthquake, I'm sure.
But everybody's okay.
I think there's some damage, but, you know, we'll come back from this.
pretty quickly, I bet.
All right, Matt, good working with you today.
Great having you.
We'll talk soon.
Go to the Doomsday podcast.
It's sensational.
Thanks, buddy.
Okay, thank you, Colin.
Yes.
It was frightening.
I watched the game last night, Joy.
And then all of a sudden I see all these alerts on my phone and I'm watching it live.
The tornadoes are on the interstate, like right in downtown Dallas during the game.
Yeah, it was terrifying.
It's like, oh, Lord.
So no fatalities this morning.
That's great.
Guys, girlfriend shampoo? No. Get your own. Dove men plus care. More resilient, made for your hair. Available at Walmart. Here's Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Let's say in the NFC East, Sequin Barclay rushed for 72 yards and a touchdown in his return, but it wasn't enough to get the Giants a win against the Cardinals. He had a little scare in the third quarter. He limped off the field, but he got his ankle retaped and returned to the game with no issues. But after the game, Seekwan's,
said he felt good physically, but a loss always stinks.
I felt like I was running well.
You know, I think I did a little too much on some stuff.
But, you know, that's part of my game.
Sometimes it doesn't work.
Most of the time it works.
I think I did fine.
I think I felt fine.
I know I felt fine, but didn't do enough to help my team.
I felt good.
You know, I was able to take my normal workload.
But physically, I feel good, but you didn't win, so I never satisfied with that.
That was not on Barclay.
That was a pathetic game plan.
How are you off for 10 days?
You're facing a warm-weather dome team out east in the rain,
and New York Giants were not ready to play.
Well, yeah, eight sacks is not great either.
Incredible.
Chandler's fumbles and an interception.
So their defense was, the Cardinals' defense was playing out of their mind.
Pat Schumer's an offensive guy.
You can't script a dozen plays.
Arizona looks so clever and so imaginative.
I thought the Giants look.
looked awful.
Embarrassing.
Definitely expecting a more competitive game than this.
Especially it's not on Sequin.
And especially if he did have a normal workload, even if he did have his normal workload,
you don't want to put that on his shoulders to begin with.
I don't think it's anything too dramatic to overreact to.
I think that, you know, anytime a rookie quarterback looks bad, it's like,
oh, up, well, well, do we give him too much credit.
Like, just pump the brakes.
Daniel Jones was heads at the Hall of Fame a couple weeks ago.
Like, let's just wait and see.
He did not look good.
He didn't look good, but, you know, also getting sacked eight times.
Generally, lends to having a bad game.
Yeah.
So, you know, no one overreacted too much.
But what's positive to take from it is that the Cardinals are trending in the right direction,
and they're, you know, growing every single week.
Yeah.
And that's good.
I mean, we want to see Kyla Murray and Kingsbury very successful in the league.
They're doing something innovative and different.
So it's a good win for them.
Yeah.
So in only his second NFL season, Lamar Jackson is putting up some amazing stats.
You know how much you love the triple double.
Oh, I love us.
one of my favorite stats ever. It's your favorite stats ever. You love hearing about it and how important it is.
Well, he's been getting a couple double triples. Doesn't quite roll off the tongue like triple double.
I don't even know what this is. And it's, it's, go ahead. It's when a player gets 100 yards in more than two categories,
it's just two statistical categories. So he had 143 passing yards and 116 rushing yards and the Ravens win over the Seahawks.
So it's the fourth time to double triple as in three over 100 yards over 100 running.
Right.
Yes.
So he has more than 100 yards of two different statistical categories.
And now he's tied for second in games reaching that feat with only Michael Vick ahead of him with eight,
which is very impressive for only his second year.
Yeah.
Fun to watch too unique.
Mark Slareth had the comment of the day.
He said, how do you prepare for it?
Only one day in pads in the NFL.
So it's not a physical practice schedule in the NFL.
And Baltimore plays physical football.
So with a time you face Baltimore, it's the first time that level of physical.
It's a really unique way to play in the NFL.
It's fun to watch to me.
And Lamar Jackson is interesting because even though sometimes you'll have moments where, you know,
the ball doesn't come out quite as clean as you like,
he does keep the defense honest all the time because he has the ability to rip off a run like that,
but he can throw it downfield as well.
So he's really become and developed into a phenomenal threat as a quarterback.
And he's just fun to watch play.
Like when he's able to get away, he's the fastest guy in the field.
How is that possible?
It reminded me so much of people.
Carol facing Vince Young at Texas, where the guys are in the right spots.
You've well, I mean, Seattle's in the right spots, got the guys covered.
And he take, when you turn your back to Lamar, when you play man-to-man defense,
and I turn my back to Lamar.
That's why when you play guys with Lamar, it's better to play a zone.
So all the defenders are facing Lamar.
Because if you turn your back to him, he takes off.
It's 25, 30 yards before you know what happened.
Well, it's also looking like the Ravens are pulling away in the AFC North.
the Browns have the Patriots next week.
Oh, so what the 5 and 2?
They're 5 and 2 and 2 and they have the buy.
Cleveland's 2 and 4?
Cleveland's 2 and 4 and then they're at the Patriots.
I'm going to just going to say 2 and 5.
That's my prediction for that situation.
The Steelers are the Dolphins.
So they gave them a little run yesterday.
And then obviously Cincinnati.
So they, you know, they're trending like that's going to be their division.
Finally, the 49ers overcame some horrible field conditions in Washington to remain
undefeated this season and the field reminded Richard Sherman the last time he played in Washington
and he's just happy everyone came out of the game unscathed.
Yeah, that was as bad as I've seen.
You know, I played in this stadium once before in the playoffs and it was pretty bad.
That's the year RG3 went down on the knee injury and the field was pretty awful.
It was mostly sand.
It was like playing in the sandpit, but today it was rain and, you know, everything was going bad.
It looked like an old school game.
Oh, that's 1987 Redskin uniforms.
It's a fun little moment there with this.
There's so many good turf fields now that you don't get a lot of this.
You don't get a lot of this 1980 stuff.
But you know what, though, I know everyone's like, you know, as football traditionalists and, you know, that's football weather.
I would prefer to see football played in, like, perfect weather.
It doesn't have to be hot.
Like, I don't think that hot weather is ideal football weather.
No.
Like, it just a nice, like, 60 degrees, minimum wins.
Like, I want to see the offense performing at the highest level and the defense performing at the highest level.
I don't want to, I don't want, like, this.
Prime example.
Crappy weather hurts the better team.
Right.
Washington's bad anyway.
It made San Francisco's offense bad.
Right.
It never hurts.
It hurts the really good team.
It'd be one thing if bad weather helped a good team.
Like, you'd be like, okay, I mean, I get to see my greatest athletes perform at a higher level.
Right.
But it's just, it was, and you could tell early on, San Francisco, you know, you take those L.A.
teams you put about in this mush and really don't perform.
No, that's why it's really, like, even though it's Washington, it's a, it's a, it's, it's, it's, it's,
an impressive win because that could have
gone either way. But mostly I just don't like these games
because the whole time you're just holding your breath
and no one gets injured because the conditions are bad.
You know, enjoy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The herd line news.
So it's very interesting. So over the next two weeks,
the New England defense faces
Sam Darnold tonight in New York
and then a week from then,
Baker Mayfield and Foxborough.
And the opening line on
Sam Darnold was New England favored by 10.
I think it's down to 9.
And the opening line this morning on Baker against the Patriots is 10 to 10.
And I do not believe that Cleveland's roster is that much worse than New England.
And I don't believe the Jets roster is that much worse.
In fact, I do something all the time.
When I think about games, remember a few weeks ago I said, Minnesota is going to crush the Giants.
And I said, I always write,
When I'm doing bets, I write down the 10 best players in a game,
and it's just one of the many things I do to figure out who to pick.
And that gives me a sense of who's really got the playmakers.
If you put the best 10 players in tonight's game, New England Jets,
I would argue the Jets have four of the 10 best players.
Jamal Adams, Lavian Bell, C.J. Mosley, and Leonard Williams are four of the best players.
Now, New England has six.
Brady, Julian Edelman, Dante Hauer, Stefan Gilmore, Shaq Mason, Devin McCordy.
But this is not your typical game where one team is favored by 10 over another.
Actually, available talent, Josh Gordon's out tonight.
This should be, you would think in New York, the Jets just control the Dallas Cowboys,
it would be a four-point spread.
Is this saying New England's great?
No, what it's telling you with Baker and Sam Darnold, they have very little in common.
One guy's quiet, one guy's cocky, one guy's small, one guy's big,
one's marginally athletic, one's very athletic.
Baker's known for his accuracy.
Sam's big knock on him is his accuracy.
But here's where they're very similar.
Baker and Sam Darnold tend to unleash a couple of egregiously bad,
I want to make a play throws.
And what the line in Vegas is telling you is New England will catch those
and probably return one.
Because the talent disparity between New England and Cleveland is not 10.5 points.
It is not.
And that's not a shot at Baker.
because the talent disparity between New England tonight without Josh Gordon in New York is not 10 points.
What it's telling you, Vegas is telling you, Sam's going to try to make a play tonight and make a couple of horrible throws.
And Baker next week's going to try to make plays and make a couple of horrible throws.
New England's won 19 straight games against first and second year quarterbacks.
And I've watched all of them and it's the exact same thing is tonight's game will feel New England will take.
an early lead, it'll feel competitive, and all of a sudden, pick six.
And this is the best secondary I've seen in the NFL that I can remember.
And I'm not saying an all-time defense.
I don't buy that.
Steelers, 70s, Bears, 80s, this is not an all-time defense.
Ravens 2000.
But the secondary, that line in Vegas for Baker next week in Santh Tonight,
that is watch the young quarterbacks, try to make a play and make an egregiously bad
throw that gets taken back to the house.
I like New England tonight.
I think they win.
I think it's ugly.
I bet the under if I had to.
But that's a crazy line considering it's in New York.
We saw how good the Jets can be against Dallas, a team that crushed Philadelphia last
night, and yet the number is nine.
Jets have talent.
And by the way, Adam Gase, beaten Belichick twice.
It's not like you have a coaching mismatch.
We know Belichick's better.
Gase beat him twice in Miami.
And Miami wasn't as good talent-wise as this Jets team, and Tannahills
is not as good as Darnold.

We do this every week.
It's called the three-word game.
We believe you can succinctly wrap up every NFL game, including Thursday's game.
It's Monday night football game and three words.
So here we go.
Thursday night, Chiefs Broncos.
Oh, no, Baham's.
Dislocated kneecap.
Going to miss three to six weeks on this one-yard quarterback sneak,
which is a strangest play for a guy like that to get hurt.
Now, the bad news is the next four games, the next two are tough,
Green Bay and Minnesota.
After that, it lightens up.
Tennessee Chargers and a buy.
Matt Moore is an experienced backup quarterback,
but listen, they're not the same teams without Patrick Mahomes
because this defense is not going to win your football games.
It is too Patrick Mahomes-centric.
Rams Falcons.
Falcons don't count.
I mean, Atlanta's lost five straight.
Matt Ryan left the game in a boot.
I guess Todd Gurley kind of touchdown pass there.
I mean, he did have more carries,
but he averaged less than two and a half yards of carry.
It's a win.
It's a blowout wins.
win of the season, 27 points.
But Atlanta has got a lot of quitting it.
Does any team in the NFL start as poorly as Atlanta?
Bill's Dolphins, I think they're good.
Listen, Buffalo's held all their opponents to 21 points or less.
In their last nine games, they're 7 and 2, Joy.
The only losses?
New England.
I think they're good.
18 straight games holding opponents under 400 yards.
That's the longest streak in the NFL.
So can you imagine going now to Buffalo in November, December when it's windy and snowing?
I mean, you're not moving the ball in them in September and October.
Never forget Brady's game up in Buffalo in 70 degrees.
Could not move the sticks.
How about Vikings Lions?
Cousins is cooking.
Listen, last three games, 10 touchdowns a pick.
He's so funny.
I mean, he is honestly two quarterbacks.
One o'clock Kirk Cousins, unbelievable.
Peyton Manning.
Primetime Kurt Cousins.
Honestly, just cover your eyes.
I will say this.
That roster, filthy good.
Delvin Cook's best back right now in the league with McCaffrey,
receivers are studs, Kyle Rudolph,
the defense pass rush.
That is a great, that front office has built a great, great roster.
Jags Bengals did not watch.
Cincinnati's the worst watch in the league, including Miami.
Miami's got fight to it.
Bengals have lost nine straight.
I didn't watch it.
Seriously, I didn't even...
I just put a cloth over my TV set in a little box on DirecTV.
I couldn't.
I wouldn't watch that game.
Raiders Packers.
Perfect passer rating.
Didn't have Devante Adams, who was their best receiver.
Geronimo Allison was on limited snap count.
So pretty impressive now.
A team that can win multiple ways.
Players are hurt.
Devonte Adams, by the way, is a precise route runner.
toe injury, so that's
one of those things. They've got to get him healthy.
First Packer quarterback ever
to have a perfect quarterback rating. That is so
bizarre, considering Brett Farr played there forever
and so is Aaron Rogers.
Six total touchdowns and only
six incompletions. Texans
Colts, no luck
necessary. First place,
AFC South.
Last 16 games,
Colts are 13 and 3.
Joy said earlier, this offensive line,
boy, it just makes everything
easier. Jacoby Brissette, this is an interesting number. Four and O against Houston. Tennessee
could never beat Andrew Luck, and Houston can't beat Jacoby Brissette. First career game for
Jacoby, four touchdown passes. Good for him. Cardinals Giants, better rookie quarterback.
Listen, during this winning streak, Kyler Murray does not have an interception. He throws a great
ball. He and Russell are baseball players. So, Kyler Murray may be a little
small, maybe a runaround guy.
It goes a beautiful football. And Cliff
Kingsbury in Arizona last two weeks have
come out scripted. A little
more of a running game. Incredibly
creative, taking nice
leads. And every quarterback in this
league, including Aaron Rogers and Tom Brady,
is way better with a
two touchdown lead than a two
touchdown deficit.
49ers Redskins.
Ugly but perfect.
49ers are the only
undefeated team in the NFC. You think
that matters? Getting home field is going to matter
in the NFC? This is why New England
keeps making Super Bowls. They play in Foxborough
in January. So San
Francisco here is undefeated and right
now would host playoff games in the Bay.
They're the only
allowed, in their last three games,
this defensive front is awesome. They've allowed
10 points in three games combined.
Four first rounders on
this defense. Eight of the 11 starters
are first second or third round
and the average age is 25.
They're not even paying these guys.
outside of Kwan Alexander yet.
So this is a really good defense.
I mean, you can watch this defense.
They just unhinge offensive lines.
Chargers Titans, classic Chargers loss.
Oh, God, Chargers down by a field goal, ball at the one.
Melbourne Gordon stopped at the previous goal line, gets the ball again,
dives, fumbles, Tennessee recovers, wins the game.
I mean, listen, isn't this the Chargers life story?
They've lost more games, you know, field goals, slightly left,
fumble at the goal line.
I mean, so it's, your thing, let me just throw this out there.
They got to go draft another quarterback.
Nothing against Phillip Rivers.
I'm watching this league.
Pocket guys, he was unathletic early in his career.
You got to get some range back there.
You got to get some footwork back there behind that offensive line.
Saints, Bears, cut the cord.
Bears last NFC total yard.
having had a 300-yard game this season.
Listen, GM Ryan Pace, you've done a good job.
Just admit it.
You whiffed.
You took a guy who had a handful of college starts
who couldn't win the job the year before at Carolina
over a guy not playing in the NFL at quarterback,
and Matt and Aggie's doing the best he can,
but you're going to literally put your coach on the hot seat.
He has nothing you can do here.
He doesn't have enough starts.
He's not a great thrower.
This roster is too –
and by the way, I think the defense now for Chicago's being,
affected. Like, I think they're over it.
I think it is really
hard to keep asking the
defense every
week to hold opponents to
10 points. I think that, I think after a while
guys just bail on that stuff.
Raven Seahawks
rushing to playoffs.
They've rushed for 1,400
some yards this year. No
team has rushed for this many yards through
seven games in 12
years in this league.
Lamar Jackson's, the NFL's
leading rusher in the last three weeks.
Now, he's not going to run like that in year nine or ten.
Everybody slows down after a few shots,
but, you know, they didn't actually play great either.
I mean, their tight end dropped three passes.
It wasn't like Baltimore played perfect football.
To go into Seattle and dominate it,
and I really, in the second half,
I felt like it was Baltimore's game to lose.
Mark Andrews, they did not play perfect football,
but they're fun to watch.
Eagles, Cowboys.
Why, Eagles, why?
outscored by 45 points last two games,
two fumbles early, down 14-0-0.
I think Trent Dofer was right a couple of weeks ago on this show.
They don't have any special players.
They don't have a receiver that you have to double,
a running back that scares you, a lockdown corner,
linebackers are average,
they don't have much of a pass rush.
And I thought last night, Goulet, you love the Cowboys.
That was the best Dallas pass rush this season, wasn't it?
I thought Philadelphia had a great offensive line.
I mean, Carson Wentz was spinning out of the
every third throw.
Finally, Patriots Jets, Darnold's biggest test.
Here's an interesting number.
Monday night football, Belichick's only 9 and 7, lost three of his last four.
It's an interesting number because I think the Jets actually are a pretty good football team.
They generally at home are a pretty tough out.
New England is not healthy.
They're on a second string left tackle, a second string center.
Josh Gordon is out.
the rookie receiver hasn't shown us anything.
They don't have really a tight end.
I guess Ben Watson.
So New England, my guess is tonight, New England wins by about the number,
nine or ten, because Donald will unleash, you know,
he's still prone to making the one or two kind of noticeably bad throws.
But it'll be a good Monday night game.
Patriots get Sam Donald tonight and Baker Mayfield in the week.
That secondary is just licking their chops for those.
What is it? New England's won 19 straight games against first or second year quarterbacks.
Baker and Sam Darnold certainly qualify as that.
Three-word game, good stuff on a Monday.
Peter King tomorrow, our herd hierarchy is going to be difficult.
I don't know what to do with Houston, Indianapolis.
I still think Houston's better, but I think Indy is a great story.
Plus, Greg Jennings stops by as well for joining everybody here.
We'll see you tomorrow.
