Starting point is 00:00:39 Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter.

Starting point is 00:02:34 Fox Sports Radio. Here we go on a Monday, live in Los Angeles. This is The Herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening, we're on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, one hour from now, where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong. There's a whole bunch of both.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Two huge NFL games yesterday later in the day, but a lot of stories developing now and throughout the course of yesterday. And Joy Taylor is joining me on a Monday. Joy, how are you? I'm great. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. So, listen, Jerry Jones is mad after the game, and it's that block punt thing. And, you know, I look at the box score this morning, and statistically it's very close. Time of Possessions, almost dead even, and penalties is dead even, and rushing is dead even.
Starting point is 00:03:29 And yards per play, Dallas slightly better, total yards, pretty darn close. and, you know, we can blame the blocked punt and all this, but I had two big takeaways from that game last night, two big takeaways from New England, Dallas. Number one is Tom Brady, that's the most comfortable he's been all year. He had six drops, his elbow hurt, missing two of his top three wide receivers.
Starting point is 00:03:55 He was comfortable. He had time to throw in a rainstorm in New England. Brady looked good to me. Brady had six drops. Brady was comfortable. His feet were good. His arm was good. He threw it aggressively. He had a nice running game. Had nice protection.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Here's the problem. Sam Darnold was also really comfortable against Dallas's defense. So was Kirk Cousins a couple of weeks ago. So was Aaron Rogers. Everybody's comfortable against the Cowboys defense. Jeff Driscoll of the Lions had a pass a rating of 109 two weeks ago. This Dallas defense, let's question. Quarterbacks beat comfortable.
Starting point is 00:04:35 You don't beat good teams that way. Brady last night in a rainstorm, 42, bad elbow, missing his second and third wide receiver. Left tackle just got back. Brady looked comfortable. Brady threw a great ball last night. I had seven drops. He threw a great ball last night.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Can't have that. So my number one takeaway is not the punting, not the tripping. You're tripping. I would be upset about everybody looks comfortable. Kirk Cousins looked unbelievable. Aaron Rogers, Sam Darnold Aitam alive, Tom Brady, Jeff Driscoll. Can't win in this league.
Starting point is 00:05:12 I mean, I said this for years. In the NFL, it's kind of simple. Make your quarterback comfortable. Make theirs uncomfortable, and you'll win 90% of your games. I mean, you'll win 90% of your games if your quarterback's comfortable and there's isn't. So that's my first takeaway. I don't think that's a solvable problem. I mean, DeMarcus Lawrence, the personnel is what it is.
Starting point is 00:05:36 The coaching on the defensive side is what it is. I don't think it's solvable. This next one, it's my second takeaway. Maybe this is solvable. So Dallas is a running team, I thought. So they go on the road in a rainstorm as an indoor football team with the best offensive line in the NFL. Six times, Dallas had a third and three or three.
Starting point is 00:06:01 less. They passed it six times. Over six. Time out. Aren't you an indoor football team? Don't you have Doppler radar in Dallas? You knew you flew in there. It was going to be cold and rainy. Didn't you know as a power running football team with the best offensive line in football? You probably should have got into that game. And if you didn't know it before, you figured it out early. Dax got a glove issue. Amari Cooper's all sealed up by Stefan Gilmore. That should have been a Zeeq run it 30 times. Tony Pollard runs at eight, six screen passes to both out in the flat. You've
Starting point is 00:06:37 got to be able to find an identity. We are 11 weeks in. What are you? At home when Dax hot, you become a running team. On the road in a rainstorm when you actually had a nice running game.
Starting point is 00:06:53 It wasn't great, but you were finding little... Zieg ran as hard as he had all year long. He was getting four yards of carry. You're not moving the ball through the air. Dak clearly had some issues grabbing the football. It happens, you know. It does in Foxboro. It happened to Peyton Manning.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And now you're flinging the ball all over the field. Like this is a correctable problem if you had a coach who could figure out stuff during games. That's really what separates the Pete Carrolls and the Bill Belichick's. You have a game plan. All of a sudden, something changes. And at halftime, you're like, all right, that doesn't work. Let's blow it up.
Starting point is 00:07:33 Let's do something else. So, I mean, just say this out loud. Quarterbacks always feel really comfortable against your defense. And 11 games in, you do not have an offensive identity. You're an indoor power running football team with the best offensive line in football in a rainy Sunday night with your quarterback having problems gripping the football and Amari Cooper being taken out of a game. What are you doing?
Starting point is 00:08:00 Six times. Third down and three are. less. We're going to throw all of them. None of them worked. By the way, you know I love DAC. You know I love Dak. That was Zeke's night. Last night was Zeke's. On Tuesday and Wednesday, first thing coaches do, game plan. You go to your Doppler radar and you're like, it's going to be windy up there in cold.
Starting point is 00:08:17 And then by every day you're checking it. Then by the time you get on the flight, you're like the pilot tells you. It's going to be turbulent. We're landing in Boston. It's windy and rainy. So if you hadn't figured it out, the pilot tells you. When we land in Boston, Logan Airport, Windy, Rainy, then you get there. the walk through the day before you're like, oh, it's kind of cold and wet. And then you get to the game and you're like, oh, hell, it's cold and wet.
Starting point is 00:08:38 You couldn't figure out it was Zeke's night? I mean, and I'm a DAC fan. At home against Minnesota, that's a DAC night. Amari was open, Cobb was open, you had a comfortable pocket. Last night, just trying to give it to Zeke, 30 times 34. By the way, you know, if you're looking for a sign, Jason Garrett during a game, looking for a sign. Look up. It's called rain.
Starting point is 00:09:00 It's hitting you in the face. It wasn't a tough one. So, you know, Jerry Jones after the game is mad at his coaches, and everybody's talking about special teams, and I'm sure you've heard it by now. And it bears repeating for Jerry Jones. He made some strong comments about coaching and special teams, and that clearly was a huge issue. But to me, every quarterback's comfortable against Dallas's defense, and you still can't figure out your offensive identity. Those are my two big takeaways. but here's Jerry on the special teams gaff.
Starting point is 00:09:33 To me, special teams is 100% coaching. It's 100% coaching. How strategy, it's having players ready, and that's why today give Belichick, give them credit. They did a great job on special teams, and that was really probably the determining difference. But special teams is nothing but coaching. There will be no coaching,
Starting point is 00:10:00 changes in season. There haven't been this morning. The block punt, obviously on the scoreboard, that's a killer because statistically it was very even. New England and Dallas were even except for the details where Belichick was better than Jason Garrett. We knew it coming in, and we now know it going out. And let me shift to the Niners and Packers now. So Green Bay has faced three very physical teams this year, and they're 0 and three against them. Gotten pushed around the field against the 49ers last night. So the knock on Mike McCarthy, remember, that's the former Green Bay coach, was Aaron Rogers is special.
Starting point is 00:10:38 He is special. You got to get him a special coach. And you got to get him a special running game. And you got to get him a more special defense. Because Mike McCarthy, even though he won a Super Bowl with Aaron, he's not special. Even though Farrs swears by McCarthy, he's not special. So let's get Aaron Rogers special. So they do.
Starting point is 00:11:00 Aaron Jones running back is special. Their linebackers, they got free agents are special. Their coach, Matt LaFleur, Wiz kid, I'm told is special. And you're blown out. Okay. All right. Let me guess it's your offensive line. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:16 Can I ask you, how often do you in the NFL have a night where you get great protection? Aaron Rogers had the ball 35 minutes, passed for 104 yards. Aaron Rogers had a running game last night. Yes, Aaron Rogers got sacked. Tom Brady won yesterday with Julian Edelman, two rookie wide receivers at 42 in a rainstorm. Russell Wilson went on the road yesterday, was sacked six times. That's more than Aaron was sacked last night.
Starting point is 00:11:45 With a bunch of undrafted rookie wide receivers, Josh Jordan just got the town, and Jadavian Clowny best teammate wasn't there. And Russell Wilson won because Russell Wilson wins close games. and Russell Wilson wins on the road, and Tom Brady wins when he doesn't have great weapons. Tom Brady would kill for Devante Adams. He was there last night, Aaron. Tom Brady and Russell Wilson would kill for Jimmy Graham.
Starting point is 00:12:08 He was there last night. Tom Brady and Russell Wilson would have killed to have a buy week. Green Bay did. Don't tell me that everything has to be perfect for Aaron Rogers to win. Well, his offensive line got pushed around. Welcome to the NFL. That happens to everybody. Did you see Tom Brady last week at Philadelphia?
Starting point is 00:12:26 his offensive line got pushed around. Have you watched the last two games for the Seahawks? Russell Wilson's been sacked a total of 11 times, but he wins both games, San Francisco and Philadelphia on the road. This whole thing about Aaron Rogers, he always escapes criticism. Well, the offensive line, they're all bad outside of Dallas. Who's got a great offensive line? He had Jimmy Graham.
Starting point is 00:12:47 He had Devonte Adams. He had a running game. He had 35 minutes. You gave him a special coach. You gave him a special running game. You gave him special linebackers. At some point, he gets blown out. too much.
Starting point is 00:12:57 Aaron Rogers simply gets blown out. Does it have to be perfect? Do you have to be at Lambeau with all the cheeseheads there? Do you have to be playing a team with a bad quarterback or Detroit? Do you have to have perfect protection? Do you have to have all your receivers healthy? That's the NFL you're looking for because that one doesn't exist. I mean, that doesn't exist.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Brady last night's doing it with Edelman and a bunch of guys. I don't even know who they are. Russell Wilson's running for his life the last two weeks. So you can keep saying, by the way, career record on the road, Aaron Rogers, one game under 500, 42 and 43. And he's getting blown out too much. So this league is not about being comfortable. This league is the ability for a quarterback when you don't get great protection to not make mistakes, hang around, go to the sidelines, not be by yourself, talk to the coaches, pick up first downs, and hang around. I mean, you kept telling me, Aaron's special, he needs more special.
Starting point is 00:13:57 That running game is special. Aaron Jones is special. Matt LeFleurheim told is special. You went and got two special linebackers in free agency. Those are special guys. The world's not perfect. Look at a quarterback's record on the road. Look at Brady and Russell Wilson's record on the road.
Starting point is 00:14:16 Because on the road you can't hear. On the road, your protection's never quite as good because the linemen can't hear. You know, on the road, let's be honest, the fans are worth four points. So you go in down for nothing. You're staying at a hotel. Somebody pulls the fire alarm, get you up early. You have to take a crappy bus to the game. Bumpy turbulence in town.
Starting point is 00:14:39 You know, you'll walk around practice. It doesn't go as well. On the road, it's discomfort. On the road is not perfect. On the road is uncomfortable. Aaron Rogers is under 500. You can keep telling me about the offensive line for Green Bay. Where's Russell Wilson's?
Starting point is 00:14:54 By the way, where's Kyler Murray? Because I saw Kyler Murray two times in the last month give San Francisco Fitz, his offensive lines worse than Green Bay's running game. And he didn't have a college coach. So, I mean, it's just always an excuse. I don't buy it. I think if you look at Green Bay's weapons, Aaron Jones, Devonthe Adams, Jimmy Graham, Brady would kill for that. It'll love that.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Sorry, you can't have perfect weather. You can't have perfect protection. It can't be a perfect game. Your defense can't have to get turnovers. Some of this is on Aaron. Some of it is on Aaron Rogers. And again, blown out, not close, over early. That team's too talented for that.
Starting point is 00:15:37 And, you know, guess what? San Francisco made Russell Wilson uncomfortable last week he won, made Kyler uncomfortable twice, and he made a game out of it. That thing was over middle of the second quarter. Your first ballot hall fame guy, you're getting blown out too much. You can't win on the road. You can't win when you're uncomfortable. NFL's not about being comfortable. Quarterbacks are rarely comfortable. Michael Vic joining us this hour, top of next hour, we're Colin Wright, where Colin's wrong. And coming up next, okay, the
Starting point is 00:16:06 tripping penalty. Let's talk about the tripping penalty. Everybody's freaking out in Dallas about the tripping penalty. That's coming up next. Welcome to my new podcast, Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist, Kear Games. And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month. Starting point is 00:16:36 we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good. good person while you hear on earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid? Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just

Starting point is 00:18:14 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker... You know these kids. This linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out.
Starting point is 00:18:27 Quarterback on office blue with 42. Hey, ref, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Ms. Parker. Listen to the Clifford show on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? This Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about Define the
Starting point is 00:18:51 Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
Starting point is 00:19:13 because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us a lot. us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing.
Starting point is 00:19:31 That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, IZAD, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Be sure to catch live edition.
Starting point is 00:19:51 of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app. Don't use your wife or girlfriend shampoo. Get your own. Dove Men Plus Care available at Walmart. Creator to range, designed to give your hair the care it needs.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Dove. Michael Vickle join us this hour. Former Cowboy Jesse Holly is going to join us as well. So let's talk about the tripping penalty. People freaked out. Oh my God, that tripping penalty letters a couple of them. Let's talk about the big one, fourth quarter. It's a third down. Dallas should be given a first down. It changed the
Starting point is 00:20:27 entire game. I don't see it that way. It negated a first down. Now, I did not like the call. I don't think anybody liked the call. It's just not my cup of tea. I don't like tripping as a general rules a call against offensive linemen feet moving all the time. But you're tripping if you think that tripping is the game. Folks, they would have been given, they would have had a first down at the 38-yard line. Dallas's own 38. They had one big completion all night. There was a minute 53 left. It was a driving rainstorm. Amari Cooper was taken out of the game. You don't have time to run the football, but you actually did it four yards of carry by Zeke pretty well. He had one big completion all night. That wasn't the game. You literally Amari Cooper out of the game. Minut 53 left. Rainstorm.
Starting point is 00:21:17 DAC not on. Zeke is, but you can't use him because you've got to get the ball down the field to get a touchdown, not a field goal. Okay, the previous drive is where actually you had a chance, once again, own it, stop pointing fingers, own it. So you trail 13 to 6 and you get down to the red zone and there are six minutes left. And again, you're struggling to move to football. A field goal does you nothing to think about it. You're 13 to 6 if you kick a field goal. but it's 13 to 9. It's not like it gets you within a point or two where another field goal wins. You still have to score a touchdown to win the game.
Starting point is 00:21:57 And as Troy Aikman said, this is just bad situational coaching. And I generally am a guy take the points. But in this instance, situationally, rainstorm. Amari Cooper can do anything. Very little time left. New England gets the ball back. By the way, they didn't burn three and a half minutes. that field goal you kicked isn't getting you in the situation
Starting point is 00:22:21 where if you stop New England get it back, another field goal wins. Troy Ackman didn't like it either. So here's the field goal try. Joe, I just think I said it. I would be going for it here on fourth down. If you think you're going to get enough possessions, two more possessions and field goals are your game,
Starting point is 00:22:39 but otherwise you're going to have to come away with a touchdown regardless. If you miss and you don't convert here, you've got New England backed up into the wind. I just, I would not be settling for three points. Yeah, that's not good. It's fourth and seven. It's not fourth and 18. It's fourth and seven.
Starting point is 00:22:57 You've got excellent weapons. You've got protection, great offensive lines. Swing it out to Zeeke or Tony Pollard. So you can blame the tripping all you want. But when you go on the road, aren't we all as football fans? You always get, you always feel like there's one call you don't get late. There's always a fourth quarter call you don't get on the road. You kind of bake it in.
Starting point is 00:23:16 You know, it's like, like, you know, you kind of look. When I, one of my teams would go on the road, I'm like, I don't want to allow the refs to be part of the game. You got to have the ball, have the lead, be comfortable. Previous drive to the tripping, you're in fourth and seven. You've watched the entire game. You're moving the ball on them. Amari Cooper come out with a big play.
Starting point is 00:23:35 You had one big completion all night. The Randall Cobb won on kind of a borderline broken coverage, which New England never allows 59-yard completions. They gave you one. you're not getting another one. Again, point fingers all you want. That's bad situational coaching, and I'm glad Aikman called it out.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Here's Joy with the News. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. The Cowboys had a few other issues in that game besides that call. Like a whole list. So, we were a little bit wrong about this game. The Jets got a commanding win over the Raiders 34 to 3 yesterday.
Starting point is 00:24:10 I was wrong. You weren't. I was. No, I picked the Raiders doing this game. too. Sam Darnold led the way with 315 yards and two touchdowns for the Jets third straight win. And Darnold says that the feeling in the locker room has dramatically improved now that they're winning. Whenever you win, you know, it's always going to feel a little bit different than when you lose. So the vibe is it's a lot better for sure. But we just got to keep
Starting point is 00:24:35 putting in the work during the week. And if we do that, then, you know, this vibe is going to continue. Apparently a month ago, Darnold and Gay sat down, Joy. Yeah. And Darnal just said, listen, These are the plays I don't like we do. These are the plays I like. And since then, this is the darn old I love. Yeah. And Gay said it's about time. We sit down and talk about it.
Starting point is 00:24:52 And that's really what great quarterback coach relationships start with, open communication about what works for them. Don't try and force a quarterback to work within your system. Be a little flexible. Have some structure, of course. But that's clearly whatever they talked about is working now. And I mean, I don't want to get too far ahead of it, but they do have some easy games coming up.
Starting point is 00:25:11 Yes. And what's really the telling thing about this is, Had Sam Darnold not had Mono earlier in the year and missed those games. It could be a playoff team. Now it's not, but it could have been instead of being, what do you, four and seven, let's say you're, you know, six and five. So, yeah, I mean, and I'll say this. The one thing it's really shown me is that the weapons,
Starting point is 00:25:34 Labian Bell, by the way, for a running back, is a great receiver. He had a great catch in this game. What it tells me for Green Bay, for the Jets, is their weapons are fine. Now that Lavian Bell's here, they found Griff on the tight end. Their weapons are okay, not great, but okay. Just fix the offensive line. Like they know get a pass rusher, fix the O line to a real football team. Right.
Starting point is 00:25:55 And they can do that in the offseason. This is really what you wanted to see from the Jets this year. Have Sam Darnold take a step up. Have Gase show that he is a capable coach that can develop Sam Darnold and put together a winning team. So I like the way that the Jets are trending right now. It's really promising. So the Eagles, on the other hand,
Starting point is 00:26:11 drop their second straight games. 17 to 9 to the Seahawks. Billy was missing a lot of offensive starters, but Carson Wentz didn't use as an excuse and he took responsibility for the loss. I have to, you know, be better. I have to lead this team better. I got to protect the football better. We can't put it on the ground the way we did. And it started with me. It starts with me.
Starting point is 00:26:31 And I'm frustrated. I know everyone's frustrated with this loss offensively. I mean, like I said, turning the ball over. It starts with me. I got to be better. Yeah, it's tough, you know, these last two weeks when the defense plays plays good football and complimentary. we didn't help him. His mechanics are messed up.
Starting point is 00:26:47 His feet are all screwed up. Something's going on with Carson Wentz. He had two interceptions and two fumbles yesterday. According to Bleacher report, one NFC coach thinks that the problem is starting with Wence's accuracy issues. Receivers don't trust him, which has led to more drop passes, which obviously leads to him not trusting the receivers either. He's 21st and completion percentage, 16th in passing yards, 20th and passer rating this
Starting point is 00:27:10 season. We talked about Baker Mayfield. There was about a month stretch. Something happened to Baker Mayfield. field like stuff out in the flat was hard something screwed up with his mechanics or his feet i watched him yesterday he's a great talent even on stuff there's a pass we have we'll show her in a second it's a little three yard out in the flat like right here i mean come on yeah what what is that no no so again carson's a great talent but but he's messed up and it doesn't help lane johnson no
Starting point is 00:27:36 deep dread obviously disson jackson's out alshon geoffrey nelson agelore jordan howard and lane John Sumer out yesterday. So it doesn't help, but they are tied for fifth most in drop passes. So something is going on. A mess, yeah. Finally, Deonté Wilder defended his heavyweight title once again with a seventh round knockout of Luis Ortiz on Saturday. Man, he's a puncher. Yeah, well, he fought pretty cautiously during the first six rounds.
Starting point is 00:28:00 And he was actually behind in the judge's scorecards until the knockout. I also thought he was losing because Ortiz was the first couple rounds. I was there. The first couple rounds were, you know, they were just kind of feeling them, feeling each other out, getting some spacing. but then I felt like Ortiz was really the aggressor in the two rounds prior to the knockout. This was Wilder's 10th defense of the title he won in 2015. So now he'll take on Tyson Fury and another highly anticipated rematch in this February.
Starting point is 00:28:24 Now that'll be great. You are our herd reporter. You had never been to a fight in Vegas. I hadn't, no. There's only actually my second boxing fight that I've ever been to. It's fun. And, yeah, it was my first fight in Vegas at MGM. It was really fun.
Starting point is 00:28:35 It's a great atmosphere. It's, you know, it's kind of like it's an experience. You know what I mean? It's like everyone there is having a once-in-a-lifetime experience together. So that's really what's cool about going to these fights. My wife's not a sports fan. She likes going to fights. It's an event.
Starting point is 00:28:51 It is an event. Everybody gets glam-up. And, of course, it's Fox. You know, we do everything the best. But Wilder's the sixth heavyweight champion to make at least 10 title defenses. So now he's tied with Ali with 10 consecutive defenses of the heavyweight title. It's now 42-0-1. So that theory fight will be great.
Starting point is 00:29:05 The three hardest punchers I've ever seen were George Foreman in his prime, Tyson, and Deonté Wilder. when he lands a right. It just kind of felt like he was holding it. And that's what he said. He was just really trying to get his spacing. But once he hit him, it was, I mean, the way he went down and you could see Ortiz's face. Like there was no way he was getting back up from that. Joy with the news.
Starting point is 00:29:25 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Line News. 13 years in the NFL, four as a pro bowler. Michael Vic joins us on a Monday. He'll be watching closely Lamar Jackson tonight in Los Angeles against the Rams. You know, I was talking about, I was kind of critical Aaron Rogers. I said, listen, you can't just win at Lambo and you have great protection in your face in the lions.
Starting point is 00:29:48 The NFL's all about, oh, you don't have great protection, your receivers aren't getting very open, your defense is not great. You're getting bad field position. Brady yesterday went in, 42-year-old, sore elbow, rainstorm, missing Muhammad Zanoo, Philip Dorset, and got it done. And by the way, Russell Wilson played this niner defense and was running for his life. and got it. And I'm not anti-Aaron, but the Green Bay has given him some nice weapons. He had the ball 35 minutes.
Starting point is 00:30:19 It's not like they didn't have a running game. Yeah, well, I mean, he was definitely putting in a position where, you know, he had some opportunities to at least keep the game close. Now, how that game got out of hand was strictly based on the 49th's defense and the containment of Aaron Rogers and the blanket coverage of his receivers downfield.
Starting point is 00:30:36 I felt like it was more that Aaron could have done. He was one for 15 on third downs. Yeah, I mean, it just wasn't your typical Aaron Rogers that we used to saying. And I did not think that this game would play out that way. It was all around them, tugging on them under duress, and Aaron couldn't find a solution to the problem. And that's not like him. But even in a certain level of difficulty, you've got to find some form of success.
Starting point is 00:31:05 Yeah, you got to move. the chains. When you're one for 50. You know, what you find with the San Francisco defense, and I've noticed this the last couple of weeks, even Russell Wilson and Kyler Murray in the first quarter, Joey Bosa has got his steam. If you can keep them on the field a little longer,
Starting point is 00:31:20 those defensive ends, 290 carrying that way. They slow down. They start to wear down. So, listen, I mean, it's the reality of San Francisco is they're going to get to you early, but you got to pick up. Just get first downs. Eight play drives. Keep 298 pound athletes on the
Starting point is 00:31:36 field and then by the second quarter of the third, the defensive line comes back down to earth. That's what Russell Wilson did. You get to overtime and those guys, they don't want to run and chase you. Yeah, you got to wear them down. You got to constantly put pressure on the defense ends, on the interior lineman, you know, for the fourth quarter. If not, they're going to do the same thing to you on the other side of the ball. You know, the way they run the football, the way they control the clock, you know, they'll put themselves in a position where, you know, now, you know, they score.
Starting point is 00:32:05 now the pressure is on you. And when the defense, Joy Bowson, those guys are getting rest, and you can't keep them on the sideline, then they're going to be full throttle when they step back on the field. That's right. So, you know, the 49ers offense killed the clock. They run the football. They play action pass.
Starting point is 00:32:20 They get into the end zone. Six, seven minutes don't want off the clock. You get back out on the field, you know, a la Aaron Rogers, now you're cold. You know, left tackles gone, right tackles, guys missing on the offensive line, and then it's just an all-out bum rush. Let's go to Dak. Dak is an indoor quarterback.
Starting point is 00:32:38 It's a power running team, and he goes into the rain. You were a dome quarterback. I didn't expect Dak to be brilliant last night. He struggled. He was struggling with gripping the football. Gilmore takes Amari out of the game. So my takeaway in that game was when you looked at the weather early, before the game they showed a shot up by the lights,
Starting point is 00:32:58 and you're like, okay, this is a 32-carry Zeeke game. It's a nine-carry Tony Pollard game. This is not Dak's day. That's okay. Yeah, alleviate that. Best secondary in the NFL. And yet during the game, six times on third and three or less, they passed and went old for six.
Starting point is 00:33:15 Have you ever in the middle of a game, dome quarterback, inclement weather, gone to the staff and said, listen, we got to pound the ball. Yeah. Or before the game even starts, you know that you're going into the game and you're going to have to run the football more than you pass the football. The completion percentage and the opportunity for a complete
Starting point is 00:33:34 just goes all the way down when you got rain falling and it's cold the football is not going to be what the quarterback doesn't feel the same it's just going to be hard it's going to be brick so you know that's established from from the get-go i honestly thought that zeke would carry this team to a victory yesterday i thought he would run the football more often than not less pressure on deck the past the football only when needed and easier throws not trying to force the ball down the field and play like you know it's 65 and sunny yeah it was was his back was exactly what I thought. As far as the blocked punt, Jerry Jones was furious about it. You've been engaged. It's almost, I read a stat one time. I don't think anybody's ever won a Super Bowl having a punt blocked. A blocked punt is so New England. It's so resourceful. When I watched that game, what I basically saw, this is my takeaway. New England, defensive touchdown,
Starting point is 00:34:30 special teams touchdown, they're the most resourceful team in the league. Absolutely. They just like the block punt to me was, oh yeah, of course they blocked the punt. In a game like this, where Bill probably told them. When they needed it the most. We need to block punt. Yeah. I said yes, the good always finds the New England Patriots one way or another.
Starting point is 00:34:48 And that was the turning point in the game. That was the only way that the New England Patriots was going to be able to drive the length of the field and score a touchdown. They didn't even drive the length of the field. They got it on like the 20. Then they had this situation where they lost yardage on the punt. And, you know, things just continue to happen for these guys, and it's because of the coaching. They out-coach you. And if they beat you 13-9 and it was a tough game on both sides, both teams had to deal with the same conditions,
Starting point is 00:35:15 then somehow, somewhere you got out-coached. They didn't get out-played. They got out-coached, I think. You can't? You can't ever happen to you? I don't think that's the answer. I think the team's- No, it's not the answer right now.
Starting point is 00:35:27 I think they fight it out. They continue to try to battle. They got a couple more games. It's not over for the Dallas-Calb. boys but it's crunch time okay Dan Quinn they said he was fired three weeks ago Atlanta went out and won two straight games when the cowboy players hear it and they'll hear it Jason Garrett's getting fired yeah does it change the locker room at all yeah it definitely changes the locker room for the guys who admire Jason Garrett and appreciate what he's been to
Starting point is 00:35:55 them not only as a coach but probably as a friend and as a confid on you think the Cowboys play harder they they play harder I think And it's hard to say right now because you think it's been 10 years with Jason Garrett. And, you know, it's a pattern. And things started to happen. You see the same things, you know, developing over and over and over again. Thank you. At some point, you reach a breaking point.
Starting point is 00:36:19 You're like, I'm tired of this. Maybe we need something new. Maybe we need something fresh. That's going to surface. And for guys like, you know, Dag Prescott and, you know, Zekear Elliott, maybe some of the offensive alignment who's older and knows the, you know, the game in and out. and what comes along with it from a business perspective can foresee this coming and, you know, in some ways appreciate it. No, I do think you get to a point is it's not like Jason's over his head, but some of these offensive linemen, Tyron Smith, has been with him for seven years.
Starting point is 00:36:50 Yeah. Tyron Smith is tired of losing big games. There are special teams, you can be bad in football, but when you goof up on special teams, it makes your coaching staff look in napped. Yeah, and not only that, when you have a locker room full of guys who are so committed to winning and they see the flaws, maybe we can do this better, maybe we can do that better, this coach is not listening. I'm trying to get them to do this. This locker room talking, it's real. And when they don't see that the things that they're trying to get done, the initiatives aren't being taken into consideration, you know, you'll be surprised at how fast a locker room can turn on the coach and be against you. So, you know, they might need to have, you know, one of the committee meeting where everybody gets together and what they call it the locker room meeting where guys, you know, get together and figure out what's the problem, get to the root of it and find a solution because next year it can all blow up. All right. Big game tonight. If Baltimore beats the Rams, I could argue the NFC, we've got our six teams. So this is Lamar's most noteworthy road game. Now, now he played Seattle, but it's up in the northwest. that was a Sunday game. Monday night football
Starting point is 00:38:04 and the entertainment capital of the world, I want you to go back to your career because many people say Lamar is Michael. Go back to your first big TV game. Now, there's playoff games. I'm not saying this is now Lamar's MVP consideration in L.A. Monday night football. Do you remember your first big roadie like that?
Starting point is 00:38:22 I'll go back to my second season. I had a big Monday night game against the Carolina Panthers. How'd you play? I play really well. I played good. Did you know, did you sense it was Monday Night Football? I sensed it was Monday Night that had this big introduction. And, you know, it was like, you know, the new guy on the scene and the fate of the franchise and added pressure, no doubt.
Starting point is 00:38:45 You felt it. I felt it. The good thing about it, we was at home. And, you know, I was able to play a good football game and we won. But, you know, for Lamar Jackson tonight, it's on the road. It's against a good football team. We're playing one of the best defensive linemen in the game. Yeah, you know, and Aaron Donald, you and you and I talked about this.
Starting point is 00:39:01 on the air yesterday when you can create interior pressure against the Ravens defense. That's the way to beat him. So we'll see tonight is there a little bit of a blueprint on pressure up the middle, forced Lamar to be uncomfortable throwing the football. You know, I've seen some practice clips
Starting point is 00:39:17 of Lamar throwing the football this weekend. It looked like he's in sync with the offense and his accuracy is on another level right now. And that's because of the offense allowing him to be accurate with the things he's been asked to do. But it's just still that. Lamar Jackson X-Factor, can you stop him for four quarters? And that's what it's going to take for the Los Angeles Rams tonight.
Starting point is 00:39:38 Can you stop four quarters? I think the answer is no. I know. And, oh, I get that part of it. Michael, Vic, great seeing you 13 years all time. Now, Lamar's on the precipice of knocking down some of Michael's records, so we'll watch that stuff tonight. Thanks, bud.
Starting point is 00:39:52 Coming up next, Russell Wilson, why I like him better than Aaron Rogers, not just because he won, but that coming up. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person because you're afraid?

Starting point is 00:42:06 This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Time out. Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Hey, Miss Parker.
Starting point is 00:42:29 Listen to the Cliverts show on the I Heart Radio. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcast. What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas. And I'm C.J. Toledano and our podcast Point Game is about defining the odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
Starting point is 00:42:51 And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhaust. at this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
Starting point is 00:43:13 And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah. You figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down. to court and you're going to get the ball.

It's great to have in on a Monday. So, like, I, you know, when Aaron Rogers came into the league and sat for three years behind Fav, then he started finally. And I push back a lot. I'm like, you know, he's talented,
Starting point is 00:44:13 but, and then he won a Super Bowl, came on my radio show at the other place. He said, is that good enough? And listen, so we've always had a little bit of a sparring thing. I do think he's wildly talented, but I prefer Russell Wilson over Aaron Rogers. And I'm, clearly I'm in the minority, but this year more than ever is a great example. Yesterday is great. So Russell Wilson goes on the road. Weather's awful. Sacks six times, under siege all day, four drops, on the road.
Starting point is 00:44:41 Jadavian Clowny, best guy on the roster, maybe defensively did not play. He's got a new receiver in Josh Gordon. He's got young wide receivers, and he finds a way to win. Six straight years, seven after this year, he'll have been sacked 40 or more times, never had a losing season, never made an excuse, never thrown a teammate under the bus. We never hear about it. There's no eye rolling. He just finds a way to win.
Starting point is 00:45:09 He's never hurt. He's been to more Super Bowls. He never gets blown out. You almost never see him get blown out. He keeps you in games. Aaron this year has better weapons. He's got a better offensive line. He's been blown out more.
Starting point is 00:45:24 I'm sorry. comes down to this. In this league, when things aren't going perfectly, how are you? Russell Wilson keeps you in every game and wins most of them. He's now 6 in O on the road. And the last two games at San Francisco and at Philadelphia been sacked 11 times. Josh Gordon, new guy comes in. I mean, I'm telling you, folks, three years ago,
Starting point is 00:45:51 he had the lowest rated offensive line in the NFL and led the league in touching, passing touchdowns. That's unheard of. Tom Brady couldn't do that. Rogers couldn't do that. Mahomes couldn't do that. Nobody could do that. And so yesterday was a prime example.
Starting point is 00:46:05 Eight of Seattle's nine wins have been one possession. He just finds a way to win when things aren't perfect. The weather's not good. I've got four drops. Running games hit and miss. Protection is unraveled. There you go. That was a classic Russell Wilson game.
Starting point is 00:46:22 And when you start stacking him up with Aaron Rogers. Russell wins more one possession games, wins more road games, gets to more Super Bowls, less condescending, never in blowout games. Like Aaron yesterday, nine minutes in, game over. Well, Russell played in San Francisco a couple weeks ago. It's not just that he won, but that game could have gone sideways for Russell Wilson. He was under duress. He got sack five times. Aaron yesterday got sacked five times. This is why to me, Russell Wilson's just one of those guys I want in my foxhole.
Starting point is 00:46:59 You know, bad weather, bad drops, bad old line. He just kind of moves the chains, keeps you in the game. I mean, the whole game I'm just, it was just you're like waiting and waiting and waiting and it's ugly and it's awful and the weather. And all of a sudden it's like one big play, two big scrambles, boom, they lead. And well, he's got such a great coach. Oh, God, there's always an excuse in Green Bay. There is always an excuse in Green Bay.
Starting point is 00:47:21 And Russell Wilson said after, you ever noticed this? I've never seen a quarterback smile more. Like he's just so eternally optimistic. Here he is about another ugly, salty road win by Russell Wilson. I think across the board, just to be able to stay within the game and stay focused in a tough environment, really tough environment, it was cold, it was windy, all those things, and to stay composed, and then to hit a big one in a clutch game. You know, we don't fear anything and don't fear any situations.
Starting point is 00:47:52 And that's really where we are and who we are. I'll tell you, Joy, we said this last week. I think they're going to make the NFC championship. I think the downside to Seattle is they may end up facing San Francisco again in the NFC championship. So it would be a third time and they did win in San Francisco. But, you know, so much of this league is how you deal when things go sideways. And I, Seattle, and not just because I'm from there, and not just because I love Russell Wilson,
Starting point is 00:48:21 but God, they just figure it out. They do. And overcoming adversity, especially in-game adversity, if your team can do that, that's what makes me feel comfortable about you winning in the playoffs. Yeah, now, we acknowledge that Baltimore looks like they're a much better team
Starting point is 00:48:36 in November than September. The two teams in the league, one in the NFC, Seattle, and one in the AFC Baltimore, those teams look different. Seattle early in the year got run out, they got blown out at home by Baltimore and New Orleans.
Starting point is 00:48:51 Then they get Clowny. Then they get Josh Gordon. And you know, Pete Carroll's veteran coach. Pete Carroll's legacy has always been. He takes young players over the course of the season like Belichick. Pete's teams, his defenses get better and better. That's called coaching. Seattle is not the
Starting point is 00:49:06 same team they were six weeks ago. And Baltimore is clearly, you'll see it again tonight. The not the tame that, you know, Dallas feels like they're always the same team. Baltimore and Seattle are getting better, getting healthier. Colin right, calling wrong, hour to an L.A. on a Monday, next.

Starting point is 00:53:47 I'm going to share that in about 15 minutes. he was just fun it's fascinating to go to dinner with a 12-13-year-old kid how they see the world and it has to do with football by the way oh okay it has to do with football it wasn't a football comment but it made me think about football i'll get to that but every monday we do it i have big strong opinions and sometimes i'm right and sometimes i completely whiff and it got to hold myself accountable when i'm wrong uh you guys like that when i admit i'm wrong so here we go calling right calling wrong on monday where colin was right blazing five i took the giants to cover they did Dallas plus six and a half in Seattle to beat Philadelphia. We have won nine of 12 weeks. And that's what pays money on Fox Bet if you follow us. I've also had back-to-back winning college football weeks, although it was
Starting point is 00:54:31 crappy early. But I felt pretty good yesterday. And I've already looked at the lines this morning, and I really like my lines. Now, I will admit, I was on the wrong side of the Raiders. That was ugly. And that got ugly really fast. I was on the wrong side of that one. Where Colin was wrong. I've always been a huge fan of Carson Wentz, but his mechanics are a mess, his feet are a mess. He's missing wide open people, and he's 21st incompletion percentage. He's 30th in yards per attempt. Now, some of this is, he had nothing to work with yesterday, but it's more than that. If you watch him, his mechanics are off.
Starting point is 00:55:06 He throws in a million different arm angles. He's got very much the Patrick Mahomes skill set, big, strong, great arm, but something's wrong. His feet are wrong. His mechanics are wrong. I will say this is what's troubling. Frank Reich was on that staff and left to go coach the Colts. Carson Wentz is 10 and 12 since Frank Reich left to take over the Colts job. So John D. Philippa was an offensive coach.
Starting point is 00:55:31 He left two to go to Minnesota. So maybe Philadelphia's got to go out and get some guys to help him behind the scenes because he is super talented. We make every excuse for Aaron Rogers. But I can't make the excuses for Carson Wentz. That's on him. He had open guys yesterday. missed him. Where Colin was right? Well, I said on Friday, if the Cowboys lose, this is going to be a referendum on Jason Garrett. Dallas was a six and a half point underdog on Fox Bed. There's
Starting point is 00:55:58 no way they should have been a six and a half point underdog. And that was before Muhammad Sunu got hurt and Philip Dorset got hurt. And they still, Dallas couldn't win. And what do you know, Jerry Jones after the game? He also made it a referendum on the coaching. To me, Special teams is 100% coaching. It's 100% coaching. How strategy is having players ready. And that's why today give Belichick and give them credit. They did a great job on special teams and that was really probably the determining difference.
Starting point is 00:56:37 But special teams is nothing but coaching. Yeah, that's a shot. And they also had the field position issue and the punt. gets blocked and man it's it's he's not getting fired now but jason garrett's in trouble maybe i don't put that house on the market where Colin was wrong hey listen uh i didn't think buffalo'd be eight and three more than that josh allen's getting better in his last six games josh allen has 11 touchdowns and one pick and he doesn't plan the most ideal weather their offensive line is okay um he's and he also can run like the dude give you 40 50 yards of running he's not out of
Starting point is 00:57:16 Wyoming, I said, I think he has a chance to be a huge bust. Wild, erratic. He does a good job. You know, when the guy is open, he's got a very strong arm. I said when he came out, he's a little bit of a poor man's big Ben. But, you know, listen, six games, 11 TD's one pick. He's getting better. He looked way more. He made one bad throw yesterday. It was almost like the wind got a hold of it. But I was wrong on that. I thought he was going to be a real. I thought it was a 50. 50-50 bust, and he's getting better, and he's looked pretty good. Where Colin was right. Oh, Jim Harbaugh won. And now Michigan is 9 and 2, which is what Michigan football has been my entire life.
Starting point is 00:57:59 And if they can win one of their remaining two games, they'll win 10 games, which is more than Bo Schembeckler averaged. This is an academic power. They are not a complete football school like Ohio State, so they shouldn't beat them three out of four years, like Ohio State should beat Michigan. Jim Harbaugh has lost this year at Wisconsin and at Penn State. There are greater crimes than that. Those are really good football teams, and they were in that Penn State game at the very end.
Starting point is 00:58:27 Brady Hoke was averaging six and a half wins. Harbaugh is averaging nine. I think they'll win a bowl game, and I do think they're going to give Ohio State a real push here. I think it's going to be a very competitive football game. But, you know, once again, he took a program. He's averaging three more wins, and he's at the traditional number of wins for the program. I thought the Indiana game was going to be tight. They steamrolled a very competent Hoosier offense in the second half.
Starting point is 00:58:56 Where Colin was wrong. I jumped on the Raiders about a week too early. They got up to a 3-0 lead and lost 34 to 3. John Gruden acknowledged that he said, listen, we're a developing team. We're not the 85 Bears. They didn't do anything right yesterday. They looked lost. And I do think I will say this.
Starting point is 00:59:14 I think the Jets have, Joy and I have been saying this all year. Jets have some players. It's not like the Jets are the Bengals. They've got six or seven really, really good players. And their run defense is spectacular. Jamal Adams is unbelievable. But that was two turnovers, couldn't do anything, 68 yards rushing.
Starting point is 00:59:32 They looked like a, you know what? They looked like a young developing team, got over at skis, and that's probably what they are. And I got a little high on them. Where Colin was right? Steeler quarterback, Mason Rudolph, stinks. I don't get it. I don't get what anybody...
Starting point is 00:59:46 I don't get it. I wouldn't have drafted him. I remember years ago when he came out like three years ago. I was getting texts. People are like, hey, how come you don't talk about Mason Rudolph? And I'm like, he can't play in the NFL. He's not an NFL quarterback. He's like a third string guy.
Starting point is 00:59:56 He's not... Come on, yesterday. He got benched against Cincinnati. That's impossible. Nobody gets benched against Cincinnati. That's the worst defense in the league. You can't get benched against New England or benched against Buffalo's defense or benched against Philadelphia's defense.
Starting point is 01:00:10 Can't get benched against Philadelphia? I don't see it. I don't see the arm. I don't see the it. I don't see the athletic ability. I mean, I'm no expert at this stuff, but I don't see it. Even Greg Kossel a couple weeks ago, I like him. What?
Starting point is 01:00:23 Like what? He said he likes what he saw on the tape from that week, but I'm 100% with you. He stinks. You can't get benched against Cincinnati. You should have your career game against Cincinnati. Baker Mayfield last year had 17. He's no picks as a rookie with a bad offensive line against Cincinnati. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:42 where Colin was wrong. I got to slow down on the Justin Herbert is a guaranteed number one or two pick the Oregon quarterback. Tua is going to get drafted ahead of him. I had two NFL executives text me during this game and say, I think I like Tua more than Justin Herbert. Listen, he ended up with 300 yards and a couple touchdowns against Arizona State, but he also had two bad picks. He makes bad decisions.
Starting point is 01:01:05 He's just one of those guys where every other throw is brilliant, and he can make him, and then every other throw is awful. They become very dependent. on one of their swing guys that they swing it out to, number three there, Johnson. He's just, he's very erratic. Again, big arm, good size, supposed to be a smart kid. But you know what? He's a little harder to evaluate than I, look at that pass right there.
Starting point is 01:01:27 It's a little harder to evaluate because his accuracy is so inconsistent. With Tua, I love Tua's accuracy. I worry about the injuries, but a lot of this league is, Kirk Cousins has his issues, but he puts the ball. where it needs to be. You got small windows in the NFL, and Justin Herbert's inconsistency worries me. Where Colin was right?
Starting point is 01:01:50 Sam Darnold's on fire. I always said, just give him reasonable pieces. Jameson Crowder on the slot. Labian Bell, Griffin the Tide End, Demarius Thomas, you don't have to give him A weapons. Just give him B minus. He entered a franchise that had bad receivers,
Starting point is 01:02:07 a battle line and no running backs. Now, by the way, he's on front. fire. 117 pass-a-rating last three games. They've scored 34 points in each of their last three games, and they got Cincinnati coming up. Darnold is an A quarterback. Now, he didn't have a lot of college starts. He was the youngest quarterback that came into the league. He makes some mistakes. He's a playmaker. But this year, they got him an elite slot guy, an elite running back. They found a really good tight end on the market. And what do you know? Now he's not sick. Now the offensive line needs to be rebuilt. It's lousy, except left tackle. It's terrible. But he's finally what I thought
Starting point is 01:02:45 he would be in the NFL once you give him a little support. Where Colin was right? Matt Patricia Detroit, never bought him as a head coach. I saw him as a hat on backwards guy, smart guy, supposed to be some astrophysicist under Bill Belichick. Detroit's now 9, 17 and 1. And he's supposed to be, they lost a Washington. He's supposed to be a defensive whiz, right? Well, they're 29th in scoring defense. That's his strength. Like, you can say what you want, but when you wear your cap backwards as a head coach in your first game, it tells me sort of your lack of self-awareness.
Starting point is 01:03:20 He looks sloppy. The team looks sloppy. I don't want to hear about Matt Stafford. They were not tearing the league up with a healthy Matt Stafford. Only the third team all time with 11 leads in the season with three or fewer wins. They don't button up the games. And again, you can blame Matt Stafford, but I just, I see a team that is sloppy. I see a coach that often looks sloppy.
Starting point is 01:03:41 If you're Belichick and have nine Super Bowls, you can wear what you want. But the look, the feel, it just never felt right to me, and they're not very good. Calling right, calling wrong on a Monday. Very proud of that. Twelve weeks in the NFL, nine to 12 weeks, we've had a winning week with our picks. Jesse Hawley, former cowboy wide receiver. He's going to be joining us coming up next. By the way, a lot of you want Jerry Jones out.
Starting point is 01:04:03 I get that. the NFL on average replaces Jason Garrett. You want Jason Garrett fired. You're not going to get fired during the season. You're not going to disrupt this whole thing. And Kellan Moore is like 19 years old as coordinators. You don't have a guy outside of the Oklahoma coach, and he's not coming up now.
Starting point is 01:04:20 But the NFL averages about seven new coaches a year. So we're going to line up, you know, six or seven. We're going to line up the six jobs that we think are most likely to be available and where do they rank? Owner, weapons, you know, offensive line, tap space. We'll do that coming up right around the corner. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
Starting point is 01:07:37 His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows. Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
Starting point is 01:07:56 He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash will get that thing. That man, hell get the flying.
Starting point is 01:08:10 He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball. Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 01:08:27 This week, the best rivalry in college football headlines, the big noon Saturday game of the week, is number two Ohio State, battles number 13, Michigan. Start Saturday Strong at 10 Eastern with a special two-hour big noon kickoff pregame show live from the Big House. Catch it all on Fox and the Fox Sports app. I think Michigan, unlike Joel Klatte, real upset alert, Michigan is playing. You get Michigan in the second half of these games in the last month, they have played great football. Listen, Jim Harbaugh's heard now for 45 years, he can't beat.
Starting point is 01:09:03 Ohio State. The pressure's on Ohio State. Michigan's going to make this a football game, is my prediction. The second thing, listen to this, Joy Taylor. Listen to this. Okay. Yesterday's New England Dallas game on Fox tied for the best NFL rating in the regular season in the entire league since 1996. Holy hell. What? And that's the most watched Fox Sports telecast of any game since the NFC championship game. That's the highest tied for the highest rated NFL game on any regular season game on any network since 1996. Is the NFL on fire?
Starting point is 01:09:41 That's impressive. That is a- Well, you were saying this all week. This is going to get a massive rating. I mean, I don't know if you predicted that. I thought it would get, it got about three million more than I predicted. Wow. Yeah, and a lot of people saw Jason Garrett's coaching.
Starting point is 01:09:56 And we said that that's what worried us. By the way, I want to go to a former cowboy. He won Michael Irvin's show. Remember that Michael Irvin show? Fourth and Long, and he won it and got a spot in the cowboy training camp. Played for the Cowboys for a couple years. Also was in a Patriot training camp, Jesse Hawley, via the Coward Global Satellite Network. I thought he'd be a great guest on a Monday.
Starting point is 01:10:19 Okay, so you've done a little Patriots and a little Cowboys. Let me start with this, Jesse. You know in a locker room, you lose a couple games, and the coaching. is getting criticized in the media, Jesse. And, you know, not everybody in a locker room, even on a winning team, Jesse is happy. Some guys aren't getting the snaps. They're not getting the targets. The backups think they should play.
Starting point is 01:10:39 Do you believe this morning in Dallas, this team, six and five, coaching wasn't great? Do you think there's a handful of players that could peel off in their support of Jason Garrett? Absolutely. But the one thing that's kept Jason Garrett thus far is his ability to keep the locker room tight. Now, when you start adding the outside players, right, you add a guy like Michael Bennett. Now, I'm not saying Michael Bennett, but you add a guy like Michael Bennett. You add a guy like Robert Quinn who isn't necessarily from your grassroots of growing your program. And now these guys have different views and they have different thoughts.
Starting point is 01:11:15 And they have magnetic enough personalities to influence some of the younger guys in that locker room. So when things like this start happening, you kind of always have to watch who's the biggest voice. in the locker room because sometimes that voice can pull other people in and really break up your locker room. That's a very good point on Quinn and Michael Bennett. Outspoken guys. They are not, you know, not drafted by Dallas. Their new guys thrown in. Now, I will say this, one of the things that's bothered me with Dallas, I've said all year, Baltimore has an absolute clear identity. That's why they're good. They know exactly what they are Monday morning at practice. yesterday, an indoor team on the road in the rain,
Starting point is 01:12:02 DAC struggling, I thought it was a Zieg 34 carry game. I think they struggle with an offensive identity. Do you see that as a problem? Absolutely. And it's been that way, not just yesterday in New England, it's been that way all season long. When you had Dak out all training camp, you're sorry, you had Zika out all training camp in Cabo and training,
Starting point is 01:12:23 you were looking at what was this team going to be? Was that going to take the next step? and be the leader of this team as the quarterback position, right? He wants the $40 million contract. Well, if you want the $40 million contract, then you have to put yourself and elevate yourself on the level of the greats, the Aaron Rogers, the Tom Brady's. And so it's been a back and forth struggle that this team has wanted to be a dominant running team.
Starting point is 01:12:44 You paid all that money up front with that offensive line, but you're also now trying to say, well, if we have a guy who we're going to pay $40 million to or close to $40 million, do we give the ball to him to go out and win his football game? So it's been a back and forth struggle of, you know, do we run the ball, which is kind of an old school way of thinking. We look at the way the National Football League has changed. Or do we put the ball in Dak Prescott's hand and allow him to be unique and special? And I thought the tide was turning the last couple of weeks against Minnesota, against Detroit.
Starting point is 01:13:14 Well, you saw Dak Prescott start to just develop and really start to blossom a little bit from the quarterback passing position. But that is one of the biggest question marks that we have here with the Cowboys is, what is the identity? And that's a fact because as a former player, I want to know what I'm walking into on Monday. I want to know when the game plan is set, how do I work my mind? How do I work my technique? What are the things that I'm going to be doing this week
Starting point is 01:13:37 that gives me the best advantage going into the game on Sunday? And this team at this point in time, they don't know. And this is why you see the inconsistencies on Sundays. Jesse, you also spent time. Let's talk New England for a second in a camp with the Patriots. I have a friend of mine, Damien Woody, that said he played for the lions, the Jets, and the Patriots, and he said, it's just different. They are just repetitive.
Starting point is 01:14:00 Practices are like games. So when you were with the Patriots, did you pick up, did you sense the difference between Belichick and Garrett in intensity, in preparation? Did you sense it or is that nonsense? I agree with Woody, 100%. I was with the Bengals, with the Cowboys, and my last thing with the Patriots, and when I got there, it was an eye-opening experience. You talk about practice being intense.
Starting point is 01:14:24 I mean, there were times where at the time, my receiver coach was Chad O'Shea, who's now the O.C. in Miami. And they would come into a meeting and say, listen, this next preseason game that we have coming up, we're only playing this amount of guys. So you guys got to go fight for a jersey. And so now you've got two receivers who are trying to make a team to fight for a jersey. And now you already have the natural receiver DB battle.
Starting point is 01:14:47 So imagine having a battle with the guy in the room with you, as well as the guy across from you. Just imagine, and that's going on across. positions. Imagine how intense and high, how high level practice would be when you have that type of intensity happening. And there's no day of the week where you're not going to be tested. Bill would, I mean, they do things in practice where you're going through a live period in practice and
Starting point is 01:15:12 Bill may say, Tom Brady's down with a knee injury. Give me the third string quarterback to come in and now you're running with the ones. And so if you're not ready, you're exposed and he'll get rid of you. So it's always, you're always thinking, you're always preparing, you're always making sure that you're ready to go. Because at any moment, Bill can call you to action. If you're not ready, yeah, you might have to find a new address. Let's go back to the Cowboys and Jason Garrett. There's going to be six or seven job openings, and we'll talk about those in about 10 minutes on our show.
Starting point is 01:15:46 My feeling is today, if given the opportunity to hire a smart young offensive coach, with a young quarterback. That is ideal. But Pete Carroll's a defensive coach. John Harba is a special teams coach. Pete Carroll, Belichick's a defensive coach. So there is no, you know, magic potion that always works in the NFL. If there was an ideal coach for the Cowboys after Garrett,
Starting point is 01:16:13 what kind of coach would he be? Wow, that's a great question. And I think it's going to have to be someone who's able to relate to the younger generation, someone who was able to evolve as the year is going on. You need someone, you got to understand where the league is going. All these guys in this football team, the Cowboys are one of the youngest football teams in all of football. The guys like Jason Whitten, those guys are extinct.
Starting point is 01:16:40 He's about to be extinct. So you have to have someone who's able to relate to a guy like Ziki Elliott, a guy like Dak Prescott, a guy like Amari Cooper, a guy like Jalen Smith, all these guys who are under 26 years old. And you have to speak their language. You have to understand their language. You have to understand their environment, understand the thing that they're going through.
Starting point is 01:16:59 And also, you have to put them in position where they're having fun playing the game of football. And they're playing an old brand of football and not utilizing their talents. And you're not doing things to expand their knowledge and to expand their horizon in the game. You lose guys like that. You limit guys like that.
Starting point is 01:17:15 So the next coach has to come in and be willing to adapt to the changes of the National Football League, the age of the players, the current status of the NFL and how things are going, because the next wave is getting younger and younger and younger. And if you can't adapt and evolve, then like everything else, you die and you become really old.
Starting point is 01:17:32 You know, it's funny about Jason Garrett. I've only talked to him a couple times. I have a friend in the organization that knows him and likes him. I will say this. I think Dallas players play hard. It's not that. I don't feel like the team is bailing on him. So that part, I've,
Starting point is 01:17:51 like. I almost feel like Jerry sees him almost as a son and then it gets very human, Jesse. It gets very personal. Is there any way you think he could retain his job in Dallas? Oh, I think the only way that happens, NFC championship, Super Bowl appearance, anything other than that we've already seen. We've already seen you make it to the playoffs. We've already seen you have a buy in the playoffs. So we've already seen these things. And so anything outside of what we haven't already seen, I think is the only way he keeps his job. It has to be NFC or Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:18:32 Because at that point in time, from an owner's perspective, a GM perspective, what are you selling to the fan base again? Now, how do you sell Jason Garrett to the fan base again if you don't make the playoffs or you have a first round exit? That's going to be a hard thing to sell, even for a guy like Jerry Jones, who is the greatest seller in all of sports.
Starting point is 01:18:53 It's going to be really hard to sell to a fan base that, oh, yeah, we're bringing Jason Garrett back for another year after we've seen so much of the same thing over the last 10 years. Jesse Hawley, great having on the show. If you're in L.A., stop by the studio. Love to have you in. Absolutely, man. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:19:08 Have me back anytime, man. All right. You know, I was thinking about this, Joy. USC has eight wins, and they'll go to a bowl game potentially and win and have nine wins. or they could play in the Pac-12 championship of Utah loses. Dallas Cowboys and USC football is nobody's saying they're horribly coached, but the standard is high because of Aikman and Staubeck and Landry and Jimmy.
Starting point is 01:19:33 So it's not like Jason Garrett's a horrible coach. I don't feel like he's over his skis. Clay Hilton at USC wins eight games, maybe nine or ten games again. But is it good enough? And I think for Cowboy fans, Jesse's point is, you know, you can keep selling people on stuff, but six and five. with this talent, Zeke, Amari, O-Line, Demarcus, Lawrence, Jones, Jalen Smith, Vanderec,
Starting point is 01:19:57 it's a hard sell. Joy with the News. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the Herd Line News. Standards and expectations make a difference. Some places are comfortable with just winning your division and not making it any further,
Starting point is 01:20:11 just being competitive every year. Some programs are okay with that. You win eight games, Minnesota Golden Gopher Football. You're going to retain your job. You win eight games at Bama, you're getting fired. That's just Dallas's level. The standard of Dallas is Super Bowls or at least NFC championship. And, you know, I think he'd have to win two playoff games, Garrett, to retain his gig.
Starting point is 01:20:31 Yeah. Well, somewhere else that has standards is Pittsburgh, and Mason Rudolph did not reach those standards this weekend. Struggled against the Bengals, got benched for Delvin Hodges. Early in the third quarter, they were down seven to three to the winless Bengals when he was taken out. He finished the day eight. 8 of 16 with 85 yards and an interception, the pass a rating of 39.8. Hodges led the Steelers to a touchdown on his first drive of the game and finished 511, 11, 1118 yards in the 16 to 10 win. He's better than Mason Roodle.
Starting point is 01:21:02 And they miss Big Ben. Hodges? Yes. And for anybody who doesn't think Big Ben matters. First of all, win or lose, Pittsburgh's an awful watch right now. They're a bad way. There's no reason why. And I felt this coming with the Bengals, because the Bengals.
Starting point is 01:21:18 Ingles have been not playing well, but they've been feisty. Feisty the past couple weeks. This felt like one of those games where, especially coming off of all the drama from the week before, this could be how it went. And I think Tomlin saw that trending that way as well. And so we need to make just an energy shift if nothing else. But here's the issue. He wouldn't comment on who would start next weekend against the Browns, which personally, I feel like Hodges is the better choice in that spot, specifically against the Browns. But then if you're looking at the playoff picture moving forward, I mean, the bills are in the other wildcard spot right now.
Starting point is 01:21:54 But you've Oakland at 6 and 5, the Colts at 6 and 5. Obviously, the Browns are 5 and 6. The Steelers are 6 and 5. They have the Browns next week. Then they're at Arizona, the bills, at the Jets, and at the Ravens. If you're not sure what you're doing at the quarterback position, it's where the Steelers were kind of trending upwards. It's now looking a little bleak for the rest of the season because any one of those teams could go on a quick run and take that spot. Obviously the Raiders and the Colts as well, Raiders coming off of a bad loss, but I think they'll bounce back.
Starting point is 01:22:21 So this does create some waves, at least in the wildcard picture in the AFC, because if they can't figure this out and get it rolling. Yeah. Which. Buffalo's in. It's a battle for the second spot. Buffalo's in. Also, Dwayne Haskins got his first NFL win yesterday. Redskins beat the Lions 19 to 16. Yeah. He led the drive to go set up the goal. Go ahead, field goal with 16 seconds remaining. Very good.
Starting point is 01:22:45 Looks good. and then Washington intercepted Jeff Driscoll to seal the win. But Haskins was caught up celebrating on the sidelines when he was needed to take the final snap. Yeah. And he went over to some fans to take a selfie thinking the time had already expired. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:02 In case Keenham had to come in and take a knee. Not great. No. They were not happy with this. And someone else who wasn't very happy with this was Joe Thysman. He tweeted, how do you miss the last nap of a game because you're taking selfies that's unprofessional and wrong.
Starting point is 01:23:19 Well, it's like not the end of the world, but it's, you've got to have more self-awareness than that. It's like, Dwayne, come on. I mean, he's young, he's excited, he got his first win. They've had a really rough year. He's taking a lot of criticism. I get it. But yeah, you got to be a, this is the difference between college and the pros. The pros.
Starting point is 01:23:39 Like, you got to just wait until you shake hands before you take any selfies. I think he'll learn his lesson moving forward. But congrats on your first win. Yes, congrats. Finally, the Lakers improved to 14 and 2 Saturday with a win over the Grizzlies. That record marks the best start ever by LeBron James. His best start before the season was 13 and 3, which he did twice with the Cavs and once with the heat. So the Lakers 14 and 2 record is the best in the league and gives L.A.
Starting point is 01:24:04 a one and a half game lead over the Nuggets in the West. Yeah, they look, you know, they didn't play particularly well, but they won. They beat bad teams. Well, LeBron is on an MVP run this season so far. He is averaging 25.2 points per game, which is 14th in the NBA, 7.6 rebounds, and 10.8 assists per game, which is first in the NBA. Yeah. John Moran is fun, by the way.
Starting point is 01:24:25 Love John Moran. Saw him this weekend. He's good. Love John Moran. I'm glad he is playing up to the expectations of what we thought he was going to be because he's going to be a star. Yeah, he's getting there real quick. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:24:37 Joy with the News. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. Third line news. A.J. Hawk of the Packers around the corner. So a lot of you want Jason Garrett out for the Cowboys. I get it. And a lot of these teams, you want your coach out.
Starting point is 01:24:54 So, you know, I'm looking this morning as Jerry Jones is hammering Jason Garrett. The NFL averages six to seven new coaches a year. So here's the six that I think will potentially be open. And I rate the six in terms of what's the best opening. best opening is going to get the best coach, the best assistants, the best coordinators, because the best coaches, generally other coaches are attracted to work with the best coaches. So if you're the fifth choice, you probably get the fifth best defensive coordinator on the market. I would say of the six jobs that could be open, Dallas is the best, offensive line, very few in the league are good.
Starting point is 01:25:32 You've got a star receiver, you got a star running back. You have very good young talent, moldable, great exposure, big time money. I'd say Atlanta's number two. I get Matt Ryan. I get a very good Dimitroff, very good GM. I like their wide receiver and tight-end weapons in an offensive league. Dome team, good owner. I got a quarterback who's been to a Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:25:57 Number three, the New York Giants. Pat Schumer doesn't know what he's doing. That's what it looks like to me again this weekend. That's the third best. I got Super Bowls in the history. I got solid ownerships. I've got a go-to star running back. And Daniel Jones has actually played
Starting point is 01:26:10 mostly very well over the last month. So the offensive line has been upgraded. Number four, I'd actually say the Jags. The owner is well liked. The defensive line personnel is excellent. Star running back, winnable division, no state tax for you and your family next to the beach. You can sell your wife and your kids on that.
Starting point is 01:26:30 The quarterback room, Foles Minshu, is not a disaster. It's okay. Number five is Cleveland. You do have a star running back. You have some really nice weapons. Miles Garrett is a superstar pass rusher. You've got chaos in the history of the organization. But I do think I've got players here.
Starting point is 01:26:51 You know, I've got a bunch of guys. I got a great pass rusher. Denzel Ward's a great corner. I got two receivers. All you have to do is upgrade the offensive line with Baker, and you can win a bunch of games. I think the sixth best opening is Washington, which is a crappy job.
Starting point is 01:27:05 Don't like the owner. Don't like the GM. Don't love the personnel. and I think you've got the fourth best personnel in the division because I think the Giants have better personnel. So that to me, Dallas is number one. Listen, Urban Meyer is a college football coach. I had him on the show.
Starting point is 01:27:20 Even he said if Dallas had a job opening and the phone rings and it's the Cowboys calling, probably have to take the call. That's the one. You know, that's New York Yankees. That's the Dallas Cowboys. That's the one. Great city. You've got Dak Prescott.
Starting point is 01:27:36 You got Zeke Ellie. you got loaded team, you know, and I can't speak for them. Obviously, I hate to even speculate because I don't know them. That's really not fair. But to me, that's the one job in professional football. You kind of say, I got to go do that. Yeah. And Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma, how many times can you beat Texas Tech?
Starting point is 01:27:53 I think that's very attractive. AJ Hawk, former Packer, joins us live. Next, it's The Herd. Be sure to catch live editions of the Herd, Weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Cold and flu season, Trivixna, Sinx Nasol Spray, works up to 12 hours. use only as directed Vick's Sinex nasal spray. My son was talking to me last night
Starting point is 01:28:13 about a fascinating thing he said about life that made me think about gronk and football. I'll get to that in a couple of minutes. But I wanted to talk about after Green Bay got pushed around last night, it's the third time I've seen him against the super hyperphysical team and they got pushed around a little bit. And I do think by week 11, there are certain things you can correct. And there are things you can't really correct by week 11.
Starting point is 01:28:37 With that, 11 years in the NFL via the coward global satellite. A.J. Hawk. Buckeye still living in Columbus. So let's address that. I've seen him get pushed around by Philadelphia. I saw him get pushed around last night. And AJ, you know, with over a decade in this league, you get to week 11, week 12, you kind of are what you are. The trading deadlines done.
Starting point is 01:29:02 Maybe a young player starting to blossom. That's certainly possible. but how big of a concern is it to you that against the physical Niners team, this game felt like it was over about nine minutes in? I mean, I guess I'm concerned a little bit, but when you have Aaron Rogers at the helm, and I know last night he didn't have the game anyone expected him to,
Starting point is 01:29:22 and it's super cliche to say, but I think it's one of the times where it's actually true where you've got to give the Niners defense a ton of credit more than take away of what the Packers' offense was unable to do. And ultimately, I mean, Aaron, not only was he kind of running for, his life most of the night. But when he wasn't, there wasn't a whole lot of guys open. I mean, they play a really good complimentary football, I think, in San Francisco right now and how the rush
Starting point is 01:29:45 that their D-line gets, and you couple that with the back end and how their secondary coverage and goes and tries to take the ball away. I mean, they're a scary team to think about facing into playoffs. You know, Matt LaFleur off a by, I was hoping for a little better schematic effort. Now, Pete Carroll off a by, Andy Reid, Sean Payton, John Harbaugh, Belichick all have great records off a buy. You should. It's four or five more days of film. I didn't think it was a spectacular effort in the first quarter. I expected more. Is that fair against the young coach? I guess, I mean, I don't like buys. When I was playing, I felt like it kind of got you out of rhythm. Whether you were doing well or you were playing horrible, I feel like the buy kind of gets your
Starting point is 01:30:27 system out of rhythm. And I understand if guys are banged up, yeah, it gives you extra time to try to heal those guys up. But I mean, let's be honest, you're not going to heal an injury. in an extra six or seven days, it's not going to happen. If you have a little ankle or hamstring, it may get you from 75% to 85%, who knows. But I feel like coming off the buy it, I know people love to talk about the extra time that coaches have to kind of scheme things up. Sometimes you can mess yourself up when you try to put too much in. You try to be too creative.
Starting point is 01:30:55 You can over, yeah, paralysis by analysis. You know, Aaron, as you know, AJ, you played 11 years in this league. And generally a player's prime is like year three to year eight. And that's a physical game. Aaron's had a couple collarbone surgeries. Aaron is a guy that has taken more than a few shots. And I saw Kyler Murray and Russell Wilson give this San Francisco defensive front trouble. And I watched Aaron last night and I thought he didn't want to run around.
Starting point is 01:31:23 Aaron doesn't want to get smoked anymore. Is that I do feel like with Aaron he plays better when he's more comfortable. Do you think it's possible that he's out of his prime, still excellent, but because of injuries has moved out of his prime? No, I think this is just an even asking that question is just an overreaction to one game, which it seems to happen to the Patriots every single week or any time that they lose. People want to say Tom Brady's done, he's over the hill. I mean, obviously last night, I don't think we'll see that again,
Starting point is 01:31:54 maybe in the rest of Aaron's career where he has numbers like that. I think it was kind of an outlier. I'm not saying they're built to make a Super Bowl run. I still have to put them up there, though, in the handful of teams to have a chance to win it. But you've got to figure out your offensive line. Hopefully, I know they dodged a bullet, Brian Belaga's knee injury is week to week, I guess, now. And it wasn't an ACL. So that will help whenever he does get back into the lineup.
Starting point is 01:32:17 But no, I don't think Aaron's out of his prime at all. And I know it can be very beneficial to someone's career in the media world to sit there and say things like that about Aaron. Like, oh, he's done. He's past his prime. You got guys that come on your show and do that. Some of my former teammates, but that's, I mean, you got the wrong guy. That's not me. I sat next to him in team meetings for nine years.
Starting point is 01:32:35 I watch them play every single day in practice, and I watch him now on TV and see what he can do. He absolutely is still in his prime. I want to shift to Ohio State, Michigan, because it's the biggest game in college football every year. You live in Columbus. I have defended Jim Harbaugh for years. I've said Ohio State's a better program.
Starting point is 01:32:55 Ohio State should win 12 games. I've always felt Michigan's a 10 or 11 win program, but I like Harbaugh. I think he's a little insane. He's crazy. He's tough. And I think Michigan's playing easy. their best football in Jim Harbaugh's entire reign.
Starting point is 01:33:10 Ohio State, Michigan this weekend. Do you think it's competitive? I think it may be competitive for a little while. I don't know how long it will stay competitive, but I just think ultimately, yeah, you can call me a Homer, be biased, whatever. I went to Ohio State. I live in Columbus, but this is the most complete Ohio State team we've seen maybe ever.
Starting point is 01:33:29 I mean, offense, defense, special teams, they have it all. There's no true weakness to the team. and Justin Field stepped in with massive expectations placed on him. And the guy only has one interception on the year, has played pretty much flawless throughout this season. You have J.K. Dobbins, then Chase Young, probably the best player in college football right now on the defense. So they're just too loaded every single place you look. And I agree. Michigan's playing great. They're much better team now than they were early in the season.
Starting point is 01:33:57 I just don't think it's enough to beat Ohio State. Yeah, Ohio State, to me, is a bad matchup for LSU. I think actually Michigan can battle them better. I think LSU would be completely over their skis because I think Ohio State's offense does everything well. And LSU's defense doesn't have much of an identity. So it's A.J. Hawk.
Starting point is 01:34:15 By the way, brother-in-law, Brady Quinn, what's your podcast, by the way? It's called the Hawkcast. We're going to have you on sometime. Yeah, that'd be nice once in a while. Show a little love to the show. AJ, good talking to you. Thank you.
Starting point is 01:34:26 By the way, Gronk now works at Fox Sports. I was talking to Gronk this weekend. Gronk's an incredible teammate. have. He's fun. He's authentic. He's totally real. He's totally honest. He's kind of got that uncomfortable thing on TV. You're not sure what he's going to say. And it was really interesting because I was talking to my son last night having dinner. He's 13. And out of the blue, my son says, you know, Dad, what's funny about life is that like when people don't have much, they're so appreciative of what they get. And then when they get rich or have a lot, they complain about what they don't have.
Starting point is 01:34:57 And I said, you know, for a 13-year-old, that's an interesting observation. And Gronk was talking about New England that they should be happier than they are. And yesterday now they win again. Last week against Philadelphia, they win and they're not happy. Here was Grunk. That's the one part I don't miss about being there. Hands down. I'm not going to lie. I don't miss that. You're frustrated. They're 9-1. They win a game last week versus Philly. We lost him in the Super Bowl two years ago. They should be happy. Instead, you're sitting there Sunday night like, what did I do wrong? Like, no, that's not the feeling that you should have. You should be pumped about the wind. I will say this, and I've thought a lot about this, is this is the downside to success.
Starting point is 01:35:38 Being successful is mostly great. You get paid well. You get a lot of attention. You're happy. You feel like you matter. The downside to success is there's a chase your tail mentality to it where you start chasing your success. And if you have any dip. And there are times, Nick Saban, why is he so grumpy?
Starting point is 01:35:55 New England. And I watched the Patriot game yesterday, and I thought about what Grong said. Nikiel, Harry, is a rookie wide receiver. he played in Arizona. He's playing in the wettest game of his life. He had a great touchdown catch, but he also had two drops. And I guarantee you this week, he will not get love for his touchdown catch. And by the way, right there, hell of a catch, great play.
Starting point is 01:36:16 It's like, okay, the kid can play. This is what he did at Arizona State. But he also had two big drops, and that's what they'll concentrate on. And I think the truth about success is it's not for everybody. Success is hard and it's demanding. Kobe Bryant won two titles with Paul Gasol. The following year he got swept in the playoffs and they asked him about it. He goes, what do you make of that?
Starting point is 01:36:38 He goes, I wasted a year of my life. He had five titles. It was one year. He goes, I wasted a year of my life. Success people, it's not about, are you smart enough? Did you have this? A lot of people just aren't built for it. New England's hard.
Starting point is 01:36:52 Alabama's hard. It's demanding. You start basically comparing you to yourself. It's always easier to chase arrival. or chase. When I get a job, I'm chasing a previous host. I can beat his ratings. What happens when you start chasing yourself?
Starting point is 01:37:09 And I think New England is different. And it isn't for everybody. And it wasn't for Michael Bennett. And I thought Gronk was totally honest. I don't miss that part of New England. Let's party. Let's go have a corona. They just, they grind daily and celebrate briefly.
Starting point is 01:37:27 And that's not for everybody. Our three, Trent Dillfer, all coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Starting point is 01:37:52 Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.

Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed. And finding ways to win no matter what. He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before. And he knows.
Starting point is 01:40:24 Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game. We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs. I think Joker's going to be exact. at this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense. And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too. Steve Nash would get that thing. That man, hell get the flying. He running up the court, licking his fingers while he got the bar like,
Starting point is 01:40:57 after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick. Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball. So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Tommy John's got a great offer right now. Unbelievable Black Friday offer, 25% off the entire site. Tommyjohn.com code H-E-R-D. Gronk is now a teammate here at Fox. I talked to him a lot over the weekend.
Starting point is 01:41:24 Very real, very authentic. He said something yesterday on the air about, you know, New England. It's so intense. The standard is so high that, you know, even beating Philadelphia last week, which is a road win, they were kind of talking about Brady was miserable after the win. And Gras kind of, you know, I think he talked about the New England culture, which is keep pushing, keep pushing, and celebrate very briefly. That's the one part I don't miss about being their hands down. I'm not going to lie.
Starting point is 01:41:57 I don't miss that. You're frustrated. They're 9-1. They win a game last week versus Philly. we lost him in the Super Bowl two years ago. They should be happy. Instead, you're sitting there Sunday night. Like, what did I do wrong?
Starting point is 01:42:08 Like, no, that's not the feeling that you should have. You should be pumped about the window. With that, we go via the Coward Global Satellite Network to my buddy Trent Dill for a decade and a half in the NFL, Super Bowl, a Pro Bowl. It is, the knock I've had on Belichick, and maybe it's just because I like quarterbacks, that sometimes I wish he just put his arm around Brady and say, I love you, man. I love you. You're just not in Bill's DNA.
Starting point is 01:42:31 I guess. But let's talk about the intensity. You're a coach now. You build this standard and there are times where it feels like they could take the foot off the gas a little, right? Well, I bet you Grunk love going to Super Bowls every year. And I think
Starting point is 01:42:49 everybody wants their cake and wants to eat it too and you just can't have it. I think that's the thing a lot of coaches struggle with is that balance of keeping that edge all the time like Bill does in New England. and the same time affirming and loving and have a culture of affirmation too. And it's very hard to have both because I think our human nature and our athletic nature
Starting point is 01:43:10 as professional athletes is to get complacent, to get lazy, to pour perfume on ourselves, to look at our press clippings, to actually enjoy some of the fruits of your labor. But then that takes away from that edge, that push, that grind that it takes to be consistently great. I know it's the biggest thing I struggle with in my career was complacency. And Bill just doesn't allow that to happen. So I appreciate it. It's a very hard way to coach. It's a way that produces results.
Starting point is 01:43:44 And I think that's why they're better than everybody else. But I could understand as a player why you would want a little more affirmation, a little more love, a little more time to relax. I said this about Dallas. There's a lot of things they do well. I don't love the fact that Baltimore, it feels like we'll look. Lamar Jackson and figured out their identity in training camp. I'm 11 games in with Dallas.
Starting point is 01:44:05 They go on the road as an indoor power running team. Zeke should have 28 to 33 carries. And on third and three or less, six times they passed on all of them. I feel like sometimes what's your identity? Who are you? At home, I want the ball in Dax's hands. In bad weather, I want it in Zeeks hands. And yesterday they took it out too much for me.
Starting point is 01:44:26 Is that a fair criticism? It's fair. It's also a very difficult position to be in as a place. call or third and three and the NFL's a passing down 80% of the time. It's just the way of the league. I don't necessarily agree with it, but it's the way of the league. And anytime you start looking at carries for a bell cow back, you have to immediately go to the box door and look at third and short conversions. If you're converting on third down, you're going to be able to put the ball in the belly of your runner more on first and second down. If you're not converting on
Starting point is 01:44:54 third down, his carries are going to go down. They work hand in hand. Is your third and short conversion percentage is going to equal more carries for your bell cow back. And the Cowboys, the biggest thing they struggle with yesterday were those third and short, third and medium conversions in bad weather. It's the dilemma that any team that wants to stay balanced has is you better be a really good third down team to make sure your carries for your back goes up. Listen, Aaron's great. Aaron Rogers is great.
Starting point is 01:45:24 I'm not disputing it. I never have. I'd vote him Hall of Fame first ballot. But it is bizarre that he's got a losing road record in the NBA. NFL, which just doesn't make any sense. And he's got a lot of blowout losses. And I watch Russell Wilson the last two weeks run for his life, sacked 11 times. Josh Gordon just gets in, rookie wide receivers.
Starting point is 01:45:44 Russell's eight of their nine wins are one possession. Russell figures out ways to keep your team in games. And Aaron sometimes, maybe going for the home run, I see more blowouts and more struggles on the road. So I want to start with Russell Wilson. first. I think he's always been underrated. His ability when the fit hits the Shan to kind of just bail water yesterday, I thought
Starting point is 01:46:10 was on display, and take your personal experience to how hard that is. Well, I've never been as good as either one of them, but to study them all these years, I would say this. I think Russell carries more water for his team than any player in the league. He does exactly what you said. He carries more of a burden. He puts on the Superman Kate more often. He has the greatest clutch gene there is. Whatever it is, whatever terminology you want to use, he seems to do it weekend and week out. And he does it in the hardest conditions. He does it on the road. He does it in hostile environments. He does it when
Starting point is 01:46:47 nobody thinks he can. He comes back more than anybody else. I think he's one of the premier competitors, not just quarterbacks, competitors that we've seen at least in my lifetime in the NFL. You can't say enough great things about Russell Wilson. Now, it surprised me about the Packers. It surprised me about that game plan was they almost reverted back to a McCarthy game plan where they asked Aaron to do too much. Yeah. What happened to the big personnel groupings, the run, the run actions, the moving the pockets, trying to defeat this Niners pass rush. So it almost, it was almost as if the Packers won this game saying, hey, Aaron, you got to go back to last year and put on your Superman cape and try to save us because we can.
Starting point is 01:47:27 can't do this stuff we've been doing all year long to win this game. Yeah. And let's be honest about it. They came off a buy and the game felt like it was over eight minutes in. And I do hold you to a higher standard off a buy. You get four extra days to prepare. You're usually healthier they were. And I just didn't think they played well. Let's go to tonight. So, you know, it's very interesting is that I said yesterday on Fox, Baltimore reminds me of the Cam Newton Carolina team. They have a unique quarterback doing unique things. The league. trying to catch up to it. It's kind of a young roster that's really feeling itself.
Starting point is 01:48:03 They've got an excellent coach in Ron Rivera and John Harbaugh. And there's an element of surprise. There's an element of catch up. And I think they went tonight going away. And that cam team, you kind of looked up in week 12 or 13 that year and you're like, man, you don't want any piece of them and they had home field advantage. Do you see the similarities there where there is schematically now, it kind of feels like teams are playing catch-up to Baltimore for a year.
Starting point is 01:48:32 I think it's a great comparison. I am fascinated about this game for so many reasons. The ones you're talking about, is anybody going to catch up to this Baltimore Ravens 13 personnel run first RPO type offense? This Saturday offense has been brought to the NFL with a unique, unique quarterback. And then Wade Phillips, an old crumajun defense coordinator, one of the greatest of all time who kind of sticks to his ways.
Starting point is 01:48:59 Oh, what's he been beat by over the course of his career? Tide ends catching the ball versus man covered. Baltimore's going to go throw three out of them at him. The Rams have to win. I mean, we're talking about a must win game before Thanksgiving. That's unheard of it. If the Rams lose, they're out of the playoffs. They're not going to fight their way back in with their schedule.
Starting point is 01:49:19 So there's so many elements of this game I'm fired up about. And then Baltimore's snow on their own. You know what? for the last week how great they are and how unstoppable they are. And now they've got to come out west. That's a hard trip. So there's a lot of drama around this game. There's a lot of scumatical things you can look at this game.
Starting point is 01:49:37 And there's a sense of urgency for the Rams because it's do or die for them. Finally, you won two playoff games, your first year coaching Lipscomb Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. You lost this weekend to a team that beat you earlier, better team beat you. If I said to you, what was the one thing as a coach that's, surprised you and you learned either about yourself or coaching, because I know you and you know as much football as anybody, did you come out of your first year high school football and went, wow, that's a lot tougher or that's unique? And I never thought about that. Yeah, coaching your coaches is the hardest thing because of your friends and because they're not
Starting point is 01:50:14 making half a million dollars a year. So many of them don't make that much money. How hard can you be on them? How much can you expect them to do it your way? How late can you expect them to be up? How much film can you expect to be watch? How great can they be at calling a game? How forward thinking are they? How many demands can you put on a high school staff? Because I'm a grinder and I don't stop. And I've already, it's Monday and I'm already working on next year.
Starting point is 01:50:41 But it's that balance of how much can you expect from a high school staff that aren't, you know, this is not their primary job. So it's something I've learned a lot about, something I'm going to dive deeper into this offseason. And I got to get better. I think it starts with me. And that's the first thing I did this morning when I got back to work was, okay, how can I be a better coach this year? By the way, do you have a punt block this year?
Starting point is 01:51:02 We did not have a pump block, but we had two kickoffs against us go for home runs. And we had a fake field goal score on us. So I judge coaches by their special teams. And if you're going to judge me, I wasn't a very good coach because our special teams cost us some games. You're honest. You and Jason Garrett this morning have something in common. All right. Trent, Dale, for a decade and a half.
Starting point is 01:51:23 half. Good talking to you. Congrats on your first year at Lipscomb Academy High School football. Thanks, buddy. Appreciate it. You bet it. Yeah, it's special teams yesterday for Dallas. It was funny. When New England blocked a punt, I thought, oh, God, this is so New England. That game was so New England. It was painful
Starting point is 01:51:39 yesterday. It was, and that's what New England does. They let you beat yourself. How about this? There was two minutes left. Do you notice this Goulet? Two minutes left in the game. And they come back from a commercial, and Joe Buck and Akeman are like, boy, it's gotten even windier.
Starting point is 01:51:56 It's like the football got, oh, there's two minutes left. Dad gets the ball. Let's just make it impossible. And it was like, oh, boy, the wind is really whipping up now. It's like somebody put a big fan on the top of the stadium. I mean, the penalties on that punt though. No, Jesus.
Starting point is 01:52:11 It's just not great. It just looks optically. I mean, my face, this is how I was looking at the screen. Like, how? It just looks disorganized. How? Good question. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news.
Starting point is 01:52:28 That's what they do, though. Well, the Raiders came into the weekend, feeling confident with three straight wins and an AFC wildcard spot. But they got embarrassed. 34-3 blowout to the Jets. After the game, John Gruden was clearly disappointed with their performance. Oh, I bet he was, yeah. You ever been on a boat that's sinking? It's not happy.
Starting point is 01:52:44 It's not pleasant. But it's adversity. It's football. You know, you got to respond to adversity. And we didn't do a good enough job as coaches rallying our troops today. We dropped passes. Hell, we dropped four center quarterback exchanges in a second half. We miss tackles.
Starting point is 01:53:00 We miss field goals. We missed an opportunity to show our fans that came out today. What kind of football team we are. Really disappointed in it. I take credit for all the things that went wrong. I like that. Yeah. I mean, that's all he can say because it was a disaster yesterday.
Starting point is 01:53:16 And the Jets are playing for the last three weeks. Jets are on fire and are a little bit healthy on offense. They've won three in a row. They are playing great, but 34 to three. is not the kind of loss that you want to put up. I really thought the Raiders were going to solidify themselves. I'll say this about the Jets. C.J. Mosley's, many believe the best inside linebacker in football.
Starting point is 01:53:34 He's been hurt all year. They signed him as a free agent. If he comes back next year and they can get any semblance of a pass rusher in the draft, it's going to be a real defense. They have a couple pieces they need. They need to fix up the offensive line. Yes. Get CJ back.
Starting point is 01:53:47 Get a pass rusher. But what you wanted to see, or at least what I wanted to see from the Jets this year, was for Sam Donald to take a step up. He did. And for Adam Gays to show that he's capable of developing Sam Donald and getting the offense going. And it seems like they are. They have a pretty easy schedule for the next couple weeks.
Starting point is 01:54:01 So the Jets are in good shape. I don't think it's the end of, this is not a disaster for the Raiders either. It's just, it was a bad loss. I mean, Josh Jacobs only had 10 carries for 34 yards. That's not going to work. As he said, four center quarterback exchanges were dropped. I mean, the Jets defense had a fumble recovery.
Starting point is 01:54:18 It picked six in a sack. So just one of those games, Like you said, every week, something just, we just have no explanation for. Not that the Raiders are the Patriots or the Ravens. Every weekend there's a game. You're like, that doesn't make any sense. This was very lopsided. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:54:33 So the Eagles dropped their second straight game with a 17 to 9 loss to the Seahawks. Philly was missing a lot of offensive starters, but Carson Wentz didn't use that as an excuse and took responsibility for the loss. I have to, you know, be better. I have to lead this team better. I got to protect the football better. We can't put it on the ground the way we did. And it started with me.
Starting point is 01:54:50 It starts with me, and I'm frustrated. I know everyone's frustrated with this loss offensively. I mean, like I said, turning the ball over. It starts with me. I got to be better. It's tough, you know, these last two weeks when the defense plays good football. And complimentary-wise, we didn't help them out. It's like nothing's going right for Philly this year.
Starting point is 01:55:08 No. And they've had a last two years, they've had dozens of injury. They started this year. Their secondary was a mess. Then their offensive line, I kind of felt three weeks ago when DeShon Jackson got hurt. You're like, they just don't have. They can't. You have to at least have, this is why it's amazing New England's winning.
Starting point is 01:55:25 You have to have a threat. You can go over the top. New England doesn't win. They're the exception. Well, if you're Tom Brady, you can figure it out. But there's only one of those in the world. So Doug Peterson also said this morning that Wentz has a bruise on his throwing hands, but he should be fine to practice this week.
Starting point is 01:55:40 So they had to Sean Jackson, obviously, Al-Shon Jeffrey, Nelson, Agalor, Jordan, Howard, and Lane Johnson. So we were quite a few pieces missing, but you still have to get that win in that spot. And they just, they just did not look great. Finally, the 49ers shocked the Packers last night with a 37 to 8 win. Yeah. Thought this was going to be a great game. Didn't look that way starting very early. Aaron Rogers had a season low 104 passing yards.
Starting point is 01:56:04 And the Niners held Green Bay to a season low eight points. And Matt LaFlor knows his team performance. Teams performance is nowhere where it needs to be. Disappointed and with myself, with how we got out coached and we got outplayed, bottom line. and it's unacceptable and we've got to look at ourselves, and there's a lot to correct if we want to be the team that we want to be. I don't really feel like I learned a whole lot about the Packers. It was a very, very bad loss for them,
Starting point is 01:56:35 but I felt like this game was all about the 49ers. They just were completely dominant, and it shows they're really for real. If you're going to beat Aaron Rogers on a Sunday night game, granted, it wasn't home, but still, This not only just beat Aaron Rodgers and the Packers, they dominated them. The defense only allowed 198 yards and 70 plays and no single completion longer than 15 yards. 49ers are for real.
Starting point is 01:57:02 Yeah, and when they feel they can tee off on you? Yes, once they smell blood, it's over. Yeah, that's the, you know, pit bull, beach ball thing. There are teams like this I've seen in my life. Baltimore, when they had Ray Lewis, boy, if they could smell blood early, it was like game going to have a hand fast. Yeah, quickly. Yeah, yeah. Patriots are death by a thousand little tiny cuts.
Starting point is 01:57:22 They don't overwhelm you. They just drive you crazy. Yeah, no, the 49ers are going to take a bite out of you. Yeah, Joy with the News. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd Lie News. Guys, use your own shampoo. Dove Men Plus Care.
Starting point is 01:57:35 Available at Walmart. Don't use your girlfriends. Dove Men Plus Care. Interesting here. If the Rams lose tonight at home to Baltimore, and I think it's a relatively close game, Rams lose tonight to Baltimore. I think the NFC is set.
Starting point is 01:57:52 Now, the six teams will be set. We don't know who's going to be a division winner, who's going to be wild card, where the games are played. But my feeling this morning is if the Rams lose, then we're going to have the Niners, Green Bay, Saints, Dallas, Seattle, and Minnesota. And that's what it's going to look like. So let's just say if the playoffs were to start today, just to show you how much fun the NFC playoffs are going to be,
Starting point is 01:58:15 how even they are. if the NFC playoff started today, San Francisco and the Saints get a buy. Green Bay would host Minnesota. I think I would take Minnesota because I like their defense. And Dallas would host Seattle, and I think I would take Seattle. Then the second round, Minnesota would be at San Francisco. I think Kirk Cousins would struggle against that defensive line. I'd take the Niners.
Starting point is 01:58:40 And I would take Seattle to go on the road and beat New Orleans. Again, I think New Orleans peaked about five weeks ago, maybe with Teddy Bridgewater, then Niners, Seahawks. Tough call, but could Seattle win a second game in Santa Clara? That's a hard ask. I would probably take the 49ers to get to the Super Bowl, so that's if it ended today. Just fun to speculate. Rams, I think, are competitive tonight. I don't think the Rams are a bad team.
Starting point is 01:59:08 I think they have a crisis on the offensive line, and Baltimore is no fun to play. if you have a crisis on the offensive line. But I do think they will at least make Lamar earn it tonight. I just think in the NFL you can do everything right. If the offensive line's a mess and you've got a good quarterback goff but not a superstar like Russell Wilson, it's just hard to get anything going. So I think Baltimore wins tonight. Coming up next, every Monday, the three-word game will describe every NFL game,
Starting point is 01:59:36 Thursday until tonight, in three words. Sincely, that's coming up in best for last. to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. The Cowboys Patriots game on Fox yesterday received the best metered market rating for a regular season game in the NFL since 1996. It is projected to rank as Fox's most watched telecast of any kind since the NFC championship game in January. That's pretty impressive. It's very impressive, yes.
Starting point is 02:00:14 And we knew it was going to be a big rating. That's a big rating. Michigan, Ohio State on Fox this weekend, that'll get a number. Having a good week. That'll be the highest rated college football game this year. Yeah. So a big noon kickoff's been a huge success for us. All right, we call it best for last.
Starting point is 02:00:29 It's the three-word game. Can we describe dating back to Thursday night Colts Texans every NFL game in three words? Here we go. Colts Texans. Go get Tua. Listen, the Colts did everything right against Houston. They outrushed them, 175 yards to 99. They had no turnovers.
Starting point is 02:00:50 Houston had one. They had the ball significantly longer, but they're not special at quarterback. Jacoby Brissette's good, not special. I know Tua's got some ankle concerns and health concerns, but he's a special talent. And I think in a division with Deshaun Watson, you've got to go get special at quarterback. That's why I don't think Tua will drop in the draft. I think there'll be a bidding war to get him at number one or number two. Bills Broncos, are they in?
Starting point is 02:01:18 Bills are eight and three through 11 games. Their best start since the mid-90s, they play real defense. They've held their opponents to 21 or fewer points in 10 of their 11 games. Now, the question is, they have a lead now to get into the playoffs. Their schedule is interesting. They're at Dallas. Then they get the Ravens at home. They're at the Steelers.
Starting point is 02:01:42 They should win that game. They're at New England, but then they get the Jets at home. So my guess is Jets at home and Steelers on the road are Ws. That gets them to 10 wins and they're in. Bucks Falcons, Atlanta now hiring. Worst record since 2013. They're 3 and 8. They've lost 4 straight at home.
Starting point is 02:02:01 That can't make the GM or the owner happy. Dan Quinn has fewer wins every year since the Super Bowl yesterday, losing to Tampa, sort of an inconsistent program themselves. So Atlanta's now hiring. Lions Redskins taking a selfie. Well, they snapped their nine-game home losing streak, but Dwayne Haskins, who, by the way, wasn't good. He was 13 to 19 and a quarterback rating under 50.
Starting point is 02:02:32 No TDs in a pick, but on the sideline after the intersection, he's taken a safety, so Keenham had to come in and take. the victory knee, which was just not a good look. Seahawks, Eagles, 6 and 0. First time in franchise history, they've been undefeated 6 and 0 on the road, and for the record, they've won eight of their nine games by a single possession. Don't tell me that doesn't help when you get to the playoffs. They are a really good team that has dealt with injuries, new personnel.
Starting point is 02:03:06 And I think Seattle's one of those teams. They're a different team than they were two months ago with Clowny and Josh Gordon being added. Raiders Jets, my favorite game. Listen, I like Sam Darnold. Last two games, he's on fire. James and Crowder, Demarius Thomas, Lavian Bell.
Starting point is 02:03:26 They've got him some now good, if not spectacular parts. He ran for a touchdown. He and Adam Gase had a meeting about three to four weeks ago, apparently. According to several reports, Sam Darnold said, I don't like this. I do like that. They've refined the playbook and a little trick play there. Sam Darnold, who have always thoughts of special talent.
Starting point is 02:03:45 He just needs a little help, and they're going to get him more help in the draft on the offensive line because that is still one of the worst O lines in the NFL. Panther Saints, McCaffrey, not enough. Listen, remember Chuck Foreman used to play for the Vikings? You probably don't. I do. He was an all-time great.
Starting point is 02:04:02 McCaffrey's the first guy since Chuck Foreman to have 20-plus rushing touchdowns and 15 plus receiving touchdowns through the first three years, but he wasn't enough yesterday. Dolphins Browns, very predictable Browns. Bad early, beating bad teams late. This is a team that could not beat a Seattle or in New England. They're going to struggle against, you know, Tennessee is a good team. They struggled.
Starting point is 02:04:26 But they did beat, you know, the Steelers, you know, when the quarterback get hurt. They beat the Dolphins and they beat the Jets without Sam Darnold. I think this is very predictable. I said they'd go nine and seven. they'd struggle early against the good coaches and good teams, and then they'd pile on seven or eight wins laid against the garbage of the NFL. They do have Baltimore a couple of weeks at home. I think they'll lose that one, but I still predict their nine and seven.
Starting point is 02:04:50 Giants, Bears, defense, not Trubisky. Mitch, one touchdown, two picks, 69 passer rating. But I'll say this. I think Chicago's got to make a move. Go get a Teddy Bridgewater. They got to do something because, You know, even against the Giants who don't play defense, Trubisky, a TD, two picks.
Starting point is 02:05:13 Don't get too caught up on that. It's Giants defense. They got a couple of decent young defensive linemen. There's not much there. Jags Titans. Tanna Hill? Jags Titans. Tanna Hill, the answer.
Starting point is 02:05:28 1,4.05 with Ryan Tanny Hill. In those games, 115 passer rating. here's the thing I'll say about Tannahill. People forget this. He had a winning record with Adam Gase and Miami. He beat New England a couple times. He's a big strong kid who can run. He's cleaned up his accuracy issues.
Starting point is 02:05:48 Once again, we're going to wake up in the morning. In Tennessee, for the four straight year, it's going to be nine and seven, and either just in or just out of the AFC playoffs. Cowboys Patriots, America's new team. Most watched regular season game since 1996. Cowboys have lost six straight to Bill Belichick and the Patriots. Dallas did not score a touchdown. Here's New England's, Nikiel Harry via Tom Brady.
Starting point is 02:06:16 Brady wasn't spectacular. They're only 17 to 37 for 190 yards. But in the weather, he didn't have Muhammad Sunu. He didn't have Philip Dorset. He had at least, I counted, six drops. So it was a much better game. I thought Brady was really comfortable. and really accurate all things considered.
Starting point is 02:06:33 Packers 49ers. Another Rogers excuse. Listen, they were over 13 on third down when Aaron had the ball in his hands, off a buy. Listen, I'm not denying he didn't have a lot of time to throw, but boy, you got to figure out a way.
Starting point is 02:06:54 Aaron Rogers has a losing career road record, which I find. one of the strangest quarterback stats in the NFL. Oh, and 13 on third down is remarkably bad for Aaron Rogers. And remarkably true for Aaron Rogers. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:07:12 Ravens Rams. Rams last stand. Jared Goss passer rating this year is 82. It's not great. Ravens like to put a lot of pressure on you since they've acquired Marcus Peters. It's a more aggressive defense. Ravens are
Starting point is 02:07:29 on a six-game winning streak, the only team to score 23 plus points in every game this year. And the Rams have to win tonight. And if they don't, it feels like to me in the toughest division in football, the NFC West, they are officially out of it. The Rams are not a terrible team. They're a solid team with an offensive line crisis. In the National Football League, offensive line crisis usually means crisis.
Starting point is 02:07:55 By the way, yesterday the Patriots got their left tackle back, and Brady was more comfortable. So that's kind of where we stand tonight. I think Baltimore wins the game. I think they're very much Carolina a few years ago where unique quarterback skill set, leagues trying to catch up, playing with a ton of swagger, have a veteran head coach who buys into Cam, buys into Lamar and says this is the way we're going to play.
Starting point is 02:08:21 And I like Baltimore. I think it's a competitive game for a while, but ultimately no question. I'm going to take Baltimore to win tonight. Tomorrow, Peter King, James Harrison. and the former Steeler are heard hierarchy as well. Speak for yourself on a Monday comes up next. Last night, a blown call changed a game.
