Oh, here we go on a Monday, live in Los Angeles. This is The Herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Starting point is 00:02:51 We're on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, one hour from now where Colin's right and where Colin is wrong. There is plenty of both. Joy Taylor is joining me. Joy, how are you? I'm great. Good morning. Good morning, everybody.
Starting point is 00:03:05 Good morning, America. Thanks for tuning in. I love Mondays during the football season. So many things to talk about. And let's start with the Dallas Cowboys. They are the sports car in the showroom. They are great for your fantasy football team. They're pretty to watch.
Starting point is 00:03:23 They got the star running back and the young star quarterback's getting better in the offensive line is unbelievable. And the star on the helmet. And yet they're six and four and struggled with. Jeff Driscoll, and they have lost to the three current playoff teams. They have faced Vikings, Saints, and Green Bay. What are we to do? They are pretty, though.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Eight for 14 on third down, one time of possession, 434 yards passing 26 first downs. Folks, they have a hole. It's called coaching. Everybody over the last two years has gotten better, except the coaching. You know what they are? They're the Golden State Warriors with Mark. Jackson. They needed a turbo boost and they got it with Steve Kerr. It wasn't that Mark Jackson failed. The defense was very good. They were shiny and pretty and fun and they had shooters and they
Starting point is 00:04:19 had talent and they won a playoff series and it was not an easy move to make because Mark Jackson won and Mark Jackson got to the playoffs and won and the players liked him and Steve Kerr had never been an NBA head coach. But in the end you had to make the move. It's just like a CEO of a company who has a product and it's a really, really, really good product and it's selling. But you're like, my sales manager, we should be better than this. The product's better than the results. And it's six and four struggling to beat Jeff Driscoll. With a quarterback in Dak Prescott that is getting better every week, let's stop arguing.
Starting point is 00:04:56 He's getting $35 million. Get over it. Zeke, Star, offensive line. Generally in the NFL, your Super Bowl ceiling, there's three things that just knock you out. Our quarterback stinks. Not an issue. Our offensive line just can't hold up. Not their issue.
Starting point is 00:05:13 Our defense is God awful. No, they have the number one ranked offense, number two ranked offensive line, and the number seventh ranked defense. Folks, we got a hole. It's a coaching. Everything's getting better around Dallas, except the coaching.
Starting point is 00:05:27 And by the way, my wife used to work in HR. She said firing people's easy because everybody that gets fired knows they're getting fired. in all the year she did it. She said, you'd never go to somebody and you go, I have to let you go. And they'd go, what? They'd always be like, yeah, I know. I'm not really focused right now.
Starting point is 00:05:43 I've got personal issues. This is a tough one, though. Mark Jackson was a tough one. He was winning. Players liked him. Steve Kurt never coach. This is a tough one. He's winning.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Players like him. They play hard. Players get better. I mean, their player development's excellent. But they need a turbo. boost and the turbo boost is probably Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma. I mean, even Zeke after the game last night, even Zeke acknowledges, he's seeing, obviously, he plays on team, but we've been telling you for three weeks.
Starting point is 00:06:16 Anybody notice Dak now? He's like Tom Brady or Russell Wilson. He's pointing guys out. He's calling the blitz. He's audible and at the line. It took three to four years to get here like Russell Wilson, but Zeke said it last night. Like, it's his team now, Dax. Dax's playing the best football ever seen him play.
Starting point is 00:06:33 it definitely took his game to a next level, just the things he's been able to do, come up to a line, changing plays, getting us in the right plays versus certain looks. And I mean, but, you know, everyone came out and played really well today. You know, when everyone's contributing like that, we're hard to stop. So this is the Mark Jackson Warrior story. It really is. It's not an easy one. HR walks up.
Starting point is 00:06:57 We got to let you go. Most people know it. Mark Jackson's like, what? I'm winning. Players like me. we got a hire. And I think there's some of that with Jason Garrett. But you're watching how much better DAC is getting.
Starting point is 00:07:12 And yet there's six and four and are struggling to a backup with the Detroit Lions. We got an issue. And it's going to be tough. And some of the players will be upset. But I've seen everybody for two years get better on this team. The coaching's not getting any better. All right, let's shift gears. Of all the Tom Brady's, the best Tom Brady is the holding the trophy Tom Brady.
Starting point is 00:07:40 The second best Brady is grumpy Tom Brady. And Tom Brady was grumpy last night after the Patriots now 9 and 1, went on the road, and the offense, let's be honest, it's hard to watch. Up and down. That's what it looks like to me. So, yeah, we'd probably do everything better. Are you concerned about the offense? Do you feel like it's something that's going to work its way out?
Starting point is 00:08:04 I don't think it matters, but I think that's what we do. Grumpy Tom Brady, they're 9-1, and here's the thing. This morning, if I said, Patriots or the field in the AFC, the only part of the field you trust is Baltimore. That is it. Look at the rest of the field. Indianapolis, Kansas City can't stop to run, Buffalo and Houston, the teams that aren't in but could be Pittsburgh, Tennessee, Oakland,
Starting point is 00:08:34 I got an A plus coach. I got an A quarterback. I got an A plus defense. I got A plus experience. And they're going to be playing in Foxboro if Baltimore and New England playoff start today. Foxborough, 11 degrees, really windy. Who's got the experience edge?
Starting point is 00:08:52 And who's really good the second time they face you? Yes, it's not pretty. But Isaiah Wynn comes back to left tackle. That's their weak spot on the team. He's coming back. The receivers are mostly outside of Edelman. young, they're getting better. Tom Brady talked about it this morning,
Starting point is 00:09:08 and you could have taken this bite the last six years out of New England. This has been the story for six years in New England. Here's Tom this morning. The strength of our team is our defense and our special teams. So on offense, we've got to take advantage
Starting point is 00:09:24 when we get opportunities and understand that where our strengths lie and try to play to them. You know, not give any short fields and not turn the ball over and try to take advantage when we get to the red area to score touchdowns. And that's just, that's kind of where our offense is. That's kind of where our team is.
Starting point is 00:09:40 That's what it's been for years. It's week 11. They're looking for a little more efficiency on offense. They're getting better at left tackle. They just went on the road. And they won by a touchdown against the talented team. This is New England week 11. Ask yourself this morning.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Look around the AFC. The only team. AFC field or New England. The only team that makes you pause on that. I mean, you really think Oakland, Buffalo, Houston, Kansas City, Indianapolis is going to Foxborough in January and winning. Really? One chance to keep them out of the Super Bowl is Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:10:22 And it'll be Belichick's second crack at him. I mean, I look at this team yesterday and I'm like, yeah, they're sluggish. They figured out a way to win. I mean, outside of the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL right now, and they are hot, they're healthy, and they're humming. Outside of that one team and Belichick gets a second crack, who else is going to Foxborough in this league and winning in January? I don't see it. I mean, if that's a bad experience, nine and one, Dallas next, who you got? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:10:57 What's the line this morning on the Dallas game? Who you got? Dallas or New England? in Foxborough. I think I'd take New England. All right, great to have you in. There's a lot going on today. I actually thought, you know, it's amazing.
Starting point is 00:11:11 There were a couple of situations this weekend that you deem is sort of controversial in sports. One doesn't interest me much. The other one is Tua. And there's a lot of people this morning, you know, they freak out when college players get hurt. And there's a lot of money on the line. And Tua shouldn't have been playing at Alabama. And this makes me uncomfortable. I don't like it.
Starting point is 00:11:32 I got to tell you something. I think Tua, not only is there a silver lining for Tua, I think this weekend we're going to look back in 10 years and it may have saved Tua's NFL career. I'll tell you about that coming up. Plus, Mike Vick, this hour, his thoughts on what he's watching with all these dynamic young quarterbacks. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m.

Starting point is 00:12:26 that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. and we're still chasing it and we don't know when we've done enough because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth?

This is Clifford Taylor the 4th. podcast, The Clifford Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Starting point is 00:14:04 Like being an internet famous referee. We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue 42. Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her. What?
Starting point is 00:14:24 Where's she at? Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the. Clifford Show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you already know there's a lot to break down. Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man. They hold him Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew. Pinky has financial issues. I like the bougie style of Housewives show. I think it looks like it's going to be interesting. On the podcast, Reality with the King, I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments from your
Starting point is 00:15:01 favorite reality shows, including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the team everybody's talking about. As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it. I understand the game. As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this. At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment. To hear this and more, listen to Reality with the King on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Guys, stop borrowing your girlfriend or wife shampoo. Get your own. Dove Men Plus Care.
Starting point is 00:15:38 Available at Walmart. Stay strong and resilient upstairs. Dove. Joy Taylor in a couple minutes. Michael Vick, some thoughts on Lamar Jackson, who is about ready to surpass some of Michael's running rushing records. I'm not sure he likes that or not. We'll talk about that.
Starting point is 00:15:54 So, you know, it's interesting. Sometimes you have to look to what I call. Look through the other end of the telescope on stories. I try never to be too rigid on a story because sometimes you just get so rigid and you see the world one way and you turn the telescope around and you're like, oh my God, there's a whole new world. And so I want you to remember this. Of the top 10 quarterbacks in the MVP race, one. One was a top 10 pick. And Patrick Mahomes wasn't initially a top 10 pick.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Kansas City moved up to get him. I also want you to remember this. the 25 richest quarterbacks in league history, none made their money with their first contract. Don't pull your money out of a 401K. That's short-term thinking. Tua got hurt for Alabama. That's the best thing that ever happened to him as long as the surgery goes well, and we suspect it will. Because Tua's going to drop a little in the first round. The best thing that happened to Dan Marino, he dropped to Don Shula. And Aaron Rogers dropped to stable Green Bay. And DAC dropped to the best offensive line in football.
Starting point is 00:17:05 And Russell Wilson dropped to Pete Carroll. Folks, Tua's a smaller quarterback. Joy and I have said this. We worry about the injury thing. So do you want him to go to Cincinnati in that offensive line and that owner and that roster? Do you want him to go to Miami? Do you want him to go to some of these clown shows in the NFL?
Starting point is 00:17:25 Or do you want him to drop out of the top 10 and make his real money in his second, third, and fourth contract? because that's where all the guys make their money. And do you want him to go to Carolina at 18th? And he can hand the ball to Christian McCaffrey. Or the Chargers at 12th. And he can hand the ball to those backs and has that defense. Or Indianapolis at 22nd.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Can you imagine inheriting that offensive line and that GM and Darius Leonard in that defense? Yes. Two is probably going to drop in the draft. And zero of the 25 richest quarterbacks made their money in the first contract. You make your money in this league by the second, third, and fourth contract. And you may have all the talent in the world.
Starting point is 00:18:07 But Josh Rosen was basically given six games and the league bailed on him. And Mitch Trubisky, you're gone. This league bails on quarterbacks. Do you not think it helps Lamar Jackson? I hear people complaining about where Lamar Jackson got picked. Are you kidding me? I can go to Buffalo. I can go to Arizona or I can go to Baltimore and John Harbaugh.
Starting point is 00:18:28 And you're whining about where Lamar Jackson. That's the greatest thing that ever happened to Lamar Jackson. You think Lamar Jackson would duplicate this in Cincinnati? You're out of your gourd. You think Deshawn Watson inherited all those weapons that defense. Now, it hasn't been perfect for Dejan, but people are getting into this to a thing. He's going to drop in the draft. If I had a son who was a little smaller at his position in the NFL quarterback and it had a series of kind of injuries,
Starting point is 00:18:55 and you ask me, Dad, where do you want him to end up? And I'd say, you know what I'd really like? I'd like him to go somewhere between 11 to 26 with a decent offensive line, a nice roster, a top running back, where he doesn't have to be a savior like Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, where he can go in, learn the offense, veteran head coach. I'd rather have the offensive line in Frank Reich and Indianapolis. I'd rather have the Chargers roster or Ron Rivera and Christian McCaffrey and make a little less money now and not be a savior. So I looked at two and I'm like, as long as this surgery, you know, is completed and he's healthy. And I think, you know, all indications are he will be. The new reality for quarterbacks is you don't want to be a savior.
Starting point is 00:19:43 You're not making your money in your first quarter. You're not, you're going to tell me Baker Mayfield wouldn't be better today if he didn't inherit that situation and Baker Mayfield went to Baltimore? I got news for you. If Baker Mayfield was in Baltimore, he's not. He's not Lamar Jackson, but he'd be going to the playoffs. You cannot overcome dysfunction. And at the top of these drafts is nothing but dysfunction. Year after year, it's the, how many times is Miami going to draft in the top 10?
Starting point is 00:20:12 How many times is Cincinnati going to draft in the top 10? The Jets going to draft in the top 10. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, Todd Gurley had one of his best games of the season. last night. He returned. Yep. Ram's 17-7 win over the Bears. Not a thriller, but good signs for the Rams. Yeah. He had a season high of 25 carries and 133 total scrimmage yards as well as a
Starting point is 00:20:39 touchdown. For Chicago, however, Trubisky was not playing well. 24 completions for only 190 yards and a touchdown and interception. He was pulled at the end of the fourth quarter for Chase Daniel, which had everyone a little bit confused. Really wasn't a straight answer about what was going on because he didn't look injured. Yeah. And his face showed a lot of frustration, but if you couldn't really tell what it was from, yeah. Well, despite the poor performance, the Bears are insisting that he was taken out because
Starting point is 00:21:08 he was dealing with a hip injury. Yeah. Some hit. Matt Nagy and Chibisky said he landed on his hip early on the game and he wasn't feeling right. My takeaway from that game is the Rams finally said, listen, we're just going to give the ball to Todd Gurley. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:26 whatever it means it means, but we can't keep pretending that we're going to pay him this money and not, you get to give Todd Gurdy the ball 25 times and either unveil the fact that he's not the same guy, but this idea that you can pass your way with a bad old line to wins here. Last night, I thought the Rams actually, their offensive line blocked, run blocked really well. No, I thought they were impressive last night. And look, they've won three of their last four games. Despite all the panic and, you know, critiques that we have of the Rams this year, obviously they're not having a season that they wanted to, but I'm with you.
Starting point is 00:21:57 I don't know why this wasn't always the game plan. You know that you have Todd Gurley. You know you have to do it through the run. It's not that Jared Gough is particularly limited, but that's just how your offense is designed. That's why you paid him that much money. And he doesn't look. To be honest with you, he doesn't look like he has the burst he used to. He doesn't, but their offensive line, they're going to draft some people up front.
Starting point is 00:22:17 They're going to clearly draft on the offensive line. Guys will get healthier. McVeigh's teams run through the running back, not the quarterback. And so let's use the guy you're paying a fortune to. Right. And also their offensive line has taken a significant step back this year. Yes. Obviously, they had a lot of injuries.
Starting point is 00:22:31 So that's really what the answer is. We're all trying to figure out what's wrong with the Rams. They have to fix the offensive line. They're going to be fine. I don't think there's too much to panic about their. Shribisky and the Bears, however, that's a completely different story. So the Falcons defense dominated the Saints last week. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:45 They built on that impressive performance yesterday against the Panthers. Kyle Allen was just completely overwhelmed. He threw four interceptions. who was sacked five times. Alan has now lost three of his last four starts and has nine interceptions in the last two games after throwing no interceptions in his first four starts. They were also penalized eight times for 68 yards. Yeah, last two weekends, Falcons have gotten pressure on the quarterback,
Starting point is 00:23:09 and this is good. Kyle Allen was a transition piece. The league has film, and now you're seeing what appears to be very clear. He's a very limited quarterback. You're not going to build around him. Now you better get Cam Newton's phone number again or do something else. But I think this is what the league does. Young guys, Gardner Minchew come out, and they surprise everybody.
Starting point is 00:23:27 Right. And everybody gets film after about seven games. And then they change stuff up. And a handful of them, Dak Prescott, Jimmy G. Let's keep getting a little better. And then some of them you're like, okay, that doesn't work. And this has been actually, there's been a lot of clarity for the Panthers this year. Yep.
Starting point is 00:23:43 McCaffrey's a star. Kyle Allen's not the future. we've got Cam that we can move or keep. To me, this team's not a Super Bowl team, but I'm getting all sorts of clarity now. Well, they're in the position that I think that all teams should try to remain in, which is competitive. Viable.
Starting point is 00:24:02 Don't just completely fall off the map. Don't try and have to rebuild your entire franchise and get rid of your one star. I still don't think that Cam is going to end up staying there because it just feels like it does. It just, you know what I'm saying? Like, I don't know what the word is for it, But it just feels like the separation is happening, regardless of how bad Kyle Allen's playing.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Let me throw something out to you. I had a discussion this week. So Philip Rivers does not want to move his family to Los Angeles. Carolina goes after Philip Rivers. The chargers who have somewhere between the 12th and the 13th Peck, that's going to be to a territory. It's going to be Jacob Eason territory. Very interesting. They're moving into a new stadium.
Starting point is 00:24:47 Philip doesn't want to go there. He's from the Carolina area. And wouldn't Philip for two years, though? As you draft a quarterback be a nice transition piece, Philip can still play. I think he leads the NFL in passing yards. He may win tonight. That's an interesting one to me.
Starting point is 00:25:03 I have a hard time believing that they are really actually going to move off of him. But it is interesting. I mean, I think Cam to Chicago or Cam to L.A. makes the most sense. I mean, Cam is a superstar, so in L.A. that would work. And, you know, I just think that the Bears are in a win-now situation. So that makes sense there, too. I don't know. I mean, he doesn't want to leave San Diego. He's going to go across the country. Two really good rosters in this league are going to draft a quarterback. Indy and the Chargers. And whoever, whatever, because Jacobi Brissette's got a year left. And Philip Rivers,
Starting point is 00:25:39 I think they're moving on. They're looking for juice at quarterback. Just keep your eye on the chargers in that 15th draft spot because some young college kids going to walk in and be like, I got pro bowlers everywhere into a new stadium. And that's an ideal situation. Tua in L.A. Just keep your eye on it. Finally, Kobe Bryant was seated court side last night for the Lakers 122-101 win over the Hawks. LeBron put on his show. He had 33.7 rebounds and 12 assists in the win. And he spoke with Spectrum Sportsnet after the game about how special it is to play in front of Kobe. It's fantastic.
Starting point is 00:26:15 I know he came to a game last year and just having him in the building just knowing what he did, what he meant to this franchise, you know, and for me and my teammates is what it means to be a part of the Laker Nation, the Laker family. You know, it's a beautiful thing for me. I grew up watching. It's just so surreal for me just from a kid from Akron to be able to have a guy like Kobe and, you know, they just take time. of a day even at this point in my career is still special.
Starting point is 00:26:46 It was a nice moment. Yeah, and by the way, LeBron looks great. Holy God, does he look good? You know, he's averaging like 11.5 assists? I cannot believe how good the Lakers' chemistry is. Well, I do think that was my takeaway from this story and what the Lakers are right now. I do think that Frank Vogel deserves a lot of credit. I mean, before the season, we were thinking this was going to be a disaster or they were going to
Starting point is 00:27:10 struggle a little bit. You know, LeBron newly put together teams. usually a little bumpy, what's going to happen with Jason Kidd. There's been no drama. No bumps. They're playing, right. Zero. LeBron is playing incredible. They have excellent chemistry.
Starting point is 00:27:24 They're top of the Western Conference. Like, I don't know what more you could ask for. And they're really good defensively. They're long. They're really. Now, again, it's an older roster in spots. You start to think to yourself, okay, let's just cross your fingers on the knees, banging knees and the guys out two weeks.
Starting point is 00:27:40 they are really good, chemistry-wise, really early. And by the way, defensively, I think they're the longest team in the league. I think they lead the NBA and defensive efficiency. You watch them play. They get their hand.
Starting point is 00:27:52 They block seven to eight shots a night. They're so long. They've been really, really impressive. And the way the LeBron has come back, it's almost, you know, weirdly you're talking about to his injury. You know, some things when they happen might end up being a blessing
Starting point is 00:28:05 because he had that extra time off, not having to go through a strenuous, long playoff run and I've never seen LeBron this fresh. He looks great. He looks incredible. He's only playing 35 minutes a night, which is the least of his career. So, you know, injuries are not the end of athletes. Joy with the News.
Starting point is 00:28:25 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Ly News. 13 years, an icon, a star, four Pro Bowls. Michael, Vic, joining us here on a Monday to talk some Lamar Jackson and Deshawn Watson. You know, I want to start with something. I was saying if I had a son and my son was a little smaller and played quarterback and he'd had two or three injuries. And I'm a dad and I'm sitting there and thinking, I wouldn't say it publicly.
Starting point is 00:28:49 But I'd be like, I'd got to be honest. I'd love you to fall to the Chargers or Carolina, stable coaches. You know, everybody's like, make your money now. But Mike, none of you guys at quarterback make your money in your first contract. You make it in your second, third, and fourth. So let me talk about two. in a weird way. Smaller at the position, banged up,
Starting point is 00:29:10 could you make an argument? Slipping about seven spots in the draft is a silver lining? Well, I think you can make the comparison to what happened to Lamar. Lamar could easily went early in the draft and ended up on a different team. Cleveland, Freddie Kitchens. Right, different offense, not the same. You know, he falls in the draft and ends up in a place where, you know, it was suitable for him. Right.
Starting point is 00:29:31 So I think it's a good thing. You know, I hated to see this happen to tour. but he could fall in the lap of a team that really needs him that has some key pieces in place, has a defense, and maybe have a need for a quarterback. Sometimes it could be a blessing in disguise, and this may happen for this kid. He's a great kid.
Starting point is 00:29:51 Yeah, by the way, Indy's got the 22nd pick, Chargers have the 12th, Carolina's 18th. Let me tell you something. You put Tua with Christian McCaffrey, because he's an incredibly accurate thrower, and those Carolina-wide receivers, and Greg Olson. Greg Olson's like, I'm going to hold off on retiring in television for a year.
Starting point is 00:30:09 Like you put him in Carolina, you're going to just watch. You're like, oh, okay. So let's move to this. Lamar Jackson. It's week 11, and they're healthy, they're hot, they're humming. He's smacking records everywhere. There is no question. I told you this yesterday.
Starting point is 00:30:26 I watch Lamar and I see you. What I also notice with him, Michael, he's getting better at throwing. He's getting better in the passing game, that's for sure. Let's talk about that. So you walked, now I always thought you were a better natural thrower. You were a great deep ball thrower day one of the NFL. But did you feel like that when you got to the NFL, take me through the steps of what part of your game got better?
Starting point is 00:30:49 Yeah, early in my career, it was about pushing the ball down the field. And that's why my deep ball was better than my intermediate throws. And years four, five, and six, the offenses started to change a little bit, the West Coast system. And I'm like, okay, it's going to be more shallow cross. it's going to be more in cuts. I got to be more precise. And having a strong arm sometimes can, you know, be a gift in the curse.
Starting point is 00:31:13 You know, because now you chance and throwing balls in between defenders and you just putting everything into your arm strength and knowing that, look, I can fit a ball in. You're thinking Brent Favre style and then it hurts you in a sense. So, you know, the intermediate game became important. later in my career and trying to finesse throws and not trying to throw everything hard because hard balls get tipped and then it get tipped and it get intercepted and I've been, you know, victim of that so many times. So it was all about precision passing as I got older and I like
Starting point is 00:31:49 what Lamar's doing now because he don't have the strongest arm, but it's accurate and he don't have to put velocity on everything that he throw. No, he's got a, by the way, you know, people have said he's Capron. To this day, never had touch. Lamar's got touch. touch, yes. He can put the ball over the linebacker in front of the safety. Do you worry when you watch him? Because he took a shot yesterday. Yeah, he took a shot on the scramble.
Starting point is 00:32:15 And I'm like, see that is what's going to be the determining factor in year four, year five, year six. And when I was in my second year, look, I had two shoulder injuries. I had both of my, like, hands, thumbs were swollen, both hand, throwing hand. Was those from hits? Just from hits, just from contact. But I kept playing through it. And being young, you can sustain those injuries.
Starting point is 00:32:40 You can keep going. You heal faster. You heal faster. And as you get older, you know, Lamar will start to, you know, be more conservative and take care of itself throughout the course of the game. I think he's done a great job of that so far. Yeah. But if this offense doesn't change, he's going to be required to do the same things
Starting point is 00:32:56 that he's been doing now over the next couple of years. Never forget early in your career. You went to Cold Green Bay and beat the Packers. and Lamar is going to go to cold New England potentially, and that could be his signature win early in his career. Lamar now is kind of the talk of the NFL. When you were bursting into the NFL, and there was about a two-year period,
Starting point is 00:33:16 Michael Vic was at the tip of everybody's tongue. Did it overwhelm you? Do you think Lamar is, does he understand how big of a deal he is right now in the league? Yeah, I think he will understand it. He'll look back at the history from guys that came before him. And like you said, and I referenced what you was talking about with tour. You know, your contract money really don't come into your second and third contract,
Starting point is 00:33:41 but you got to get to that second contract. So all my motivation was in getting through year one, year two, year three, year four, and making sure that those were the best years of my career. And that money wasn't the object, objective. It was more about being consistent and playing good football and being the best quarterback that I can be. So that overrode everything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:02 And then, you know, I just let everything else fall into place. Yeah, there's, I find Lamar incredibly likable, not divisive, fun, likable, getting better. I think we forget sometimes. Guys walk into this NFL, Tom Brady's first three years in the league. He was not the Tom Brady against Atlanta in the Super Bowl. Like, DAC is clearly better the day than a year ago. You can watch DAC at the, yeah, let's talk about the Cowboys. I watch DAC at the line of scrimmage now.
Starting point is 00:34:26 And this is something I pay attention to. Total control. He, you know what? So when he's pointing, what is he doing? He's probably pointing out defenders, pointing out who's going to blitz. You know, he could be miking, you know, changing the protection. That's probably what it is most of the time. He does this now.
Starting point is 00:34:42 He didn't do this two years ago. He does this a lot. He's recognizing what's about to happen. He's just informing everybody of, you know, what players needs to be called or what has to happen. Do you, you know, guys like me have been critical. He doesn't throw a pretty ball. As a thrower, what do you see when you watch, Dak? precision. You know, I don't see him forcing a lot of balls. I think he's very accurate.
Starting point is 00:35:07 I think he puts the ball in places where only his receivers can get it. You don't see a lot of balls getting tipped or batted away. And he's done it, you know, since he stepped behind the center for the Dallas Cowboys, and that's one of the things I admired about him. I think his first pass I ever seen him throw was like a seam to a slot receiver up the sideline. And like his first passing the preseason game against the Rams years ago. And I was like, this guy got touched. And he's continued to show that over and
Starting point is 00:35:38 over and over again. And when you're an offensive coordinator, and you see a guy who can take control of a game with his arm, I mean, it's exciting. You know, it gets an officer coordinator, you know, excited about what he can present to this guy, week in and week out. Yeah. And by
Starting point is 00:35:54 the way, they do have some really Michael Gallup, Randallup, Randall, Amari Cooper. The weapons are good. That, that, that, That helps. I want to talk a little bit about New England. So, you know, Tom Brady was grumpy after the game, and I noticed last night we love to blame quarterbacks. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:36:13 But New England's a mess at left tackle. And Tom is just, hike, get rid of it. Was there ever a moment in your career? Because I'm watching Brady last night. You could see he's visibly frustrated. He's got young receivers and a mess at left tackle. Was there ever a moment in your career where there was an offensive lineman? you didn't trust.
Starting point is 00:36:32 In your head, ball snapped. Because I look at Brady last night, and I'm like, oh, he doesn't trust the left tackle at all. In 2012, Philadelphia, I just got beat up. It was musical chairs with the offensive line. Jason Peters was out, so he was my left tackle. And good. And I can't even remember who the replacement was.
Starting point is 00:36:51 There was no disrespect to that guy, but, you know, that was my concern. And I just remember playing against the Detroit Lions and the Dama Kassu, and, you know, he had a boy. bunch of guys. Nick Farrelly and all those guys and they just, you know, kind of ran throughout offensive line. It was a rough day for me, but I was super grumpy after the game as well. So when you were in the middle of that game, you knew coming out of the huddle. Yeah. But can't block them. Can't block them. I'm going to get beat up. I came into that game knowing that I was going to get hit, knowing that I was going to be the guy who had to stand tall
Starting point is 00:37:24 back there and get punished, but I was willing to do it for, you know, the sake of my team. it wasn't the best feeling afterwards, but I felt good about stepping up. Now, we didn't win the game. We lost an overtime. But you knew when you had your oatmeal in the morning. Yeah, I knew when I was eating breakfast. When I woke up, it was like, here we go again.
Starting point is 00:37:44 Let's do it. Because I watched Brady last night. He doesn't have a deep threat. Do you think Grong's going to come back? We watched him yesterday here at Fox. He now looks like an art curator. He doesn't look like a blocking tie-in. He's kind of skinny.
Starting point is 00:37:56 He looked really good in the suit yesterday. He didn't he? Yeah, it was fitted. I think he's looking forward to the next phase of his career. I don't see him coming back, but New England always goes through this phase every year, I think. What is that? Where the offensive line gets banged up, they lose a guy, and they force Tom to just change his game, force the offense to look different.
Starting point is 00:38:18 And the ball comes out quick. And I think this helps them in the long run, because it trends all the way to the Super Bowl, which they get to every year. Right. pretty much. And they have their woes, but they always find a way to overcome it. And I'll never doubt the things that the New England Patriots can do,
Starting point is 00:38:38 you know, with all the guys that they have within that building. Yeah, they've got six more regular season games. Then you've got a buy. They've got young receivers, Jacoby Myers, Nikiel Harry. And they're mostly healthy right now. So my gut is they're 9-1, AFC, New England or the field in the AFC. Yeah. I'd probably take New England.
Starting point is 00:38:59 Mike Vick, great talking to you, bud. Thank you. Coming up in 20 minutes on a Monday where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong. And coming up next, there is one NFL team. The more I see them, even though they have a great record, the less I care for them. And I think everybody else likes them, and I'm starting to lose confidence. We'll talk about that coming up. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays at noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific.

And we're still chasing it. And we don't know when we've done enough.
Starting point is 00:39:54 Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth? Starting point is 00:41:27 We're in the middle of a game. This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me. He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her. What? Quarterback on office blue of 42. Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her. What? Where's she at?
Starting point is 00:41:48 Hey, Miss Parker. Listen to the Clippers show on the IHeart Radio. Apple Podcast or wherever you get your podcast. Hey, it's Edwin Castro, also known as Castro 1021. And I'm Conky, his best friend and business manager. And we've got a new show called The 1021 Podcast. I'm taking you behind the scenes on how I became one of Twitch's most popular streamers. We also love sports.
Starting point is 00:42:15 And with the World Cup right around the corner, we'll be breaking down the biggest storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the Iheart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It takes you a while. Welcome back in the NFL to kind of figure out teams. And, you know, the more I watched San Francisco, I was thinking last night, the more I watched San Francisco, the less I like San Francisco. And then it sort of hit me is that San Francisco is two teams. When they're facing a pocket quarterback, they're one team.
Starting point is 00:42:52 when they're facing a mobile quarterback, they're another team. And so they start the year and they play an Andy Dalton and a Mason Rudolph and they play a Jared Gough and then a Kyle Allen. And you're like, wow, that div is unbelievable. And then the last three weeks they've faced Kyler Murray twice and Russell Wilson twice. And you're like, oh, oh, I see. This is what San Francisco is. First of all, offensively, they miss George Kittle. He's kind of the Gronk to New England.
Starting point is 00:43:24 George Kittle is to San Francisco. They can still score without him, but Gronk kind of defined on big moments, the Patriots last several years. George Kittle really defines who San Francisco is. They're a lot fuzzier offensively when he's not playing. But if you look at the schedule for San Francisco, so the next two weeks, they face Aaron Rogers and Lamar Jackson,
Starting point is 00:43:45 and the Niners defense is not going to look as great. And then they face Drew Brees, Matt Ryan, and Jared Gough. and their defense is going to look great. And then they've got to go to Seattle and they've got to face Russell Wilson and their defense won't be as great. It's San Francisco's one of those teams. The way their defense is set up, if you're a pocket quarterback and you don't have an elito line, good luck.
Starting point is 00:44:07 But I think Dallas could play them. I think Baltimore. I think Green Bay. I think Arizona's giving them trouble twice. I think Seattle. Carson Wentz in Philadelphia. There's a way to beat San Francisco. And the more I watch them, the more.
Starting point is 00:44:20 I watch them, the more vulnerable they become. If your quarterback can move, you've got a real shot. You're going to put up 24, 25 points. I mean, Kyler Murray's giving him headaches the last two times he's faced him. He's got nothing to work with. He's got a rookie head coach. He's got a bad old line. I mean, they're really a rebuilding team.
Starting point is 00:44:35 And I'm watching yesterday, and I'm like, listen, San Francisco's defense, you know, it's the Mike Tyson quality. I always felt this about Mike Tyson. If you had a reach, if you were big, and you could be an average fighter, Mitch Blood, Green, Trevor Burbank, if you, if you didn't have a reach advantage, Mike Tyson was a pit bull on a beach ball. But if you were
Starting point is 00:44:56 long, Buster Douglas, Larry Holmes, you could keep Mike away, you could jab him and frustrate him. That's San Francisco. When you got that moving quarterback, you force them to be honest. They can't pin their ears back. If you have a pocket quarterback,
Starting point is 00:45:12 they are Mike Tyson in their prime. They're just going to engulf you and humiliate Kyle Allen and Baker Mayfield and Jared Gough. And it's like, oh, you've got to cover your eyes. It's horrible. But over the next couple of weeks, watch the next two weeks. Aaron Rogers and Lamar Jackson, they're going to move around against this offensive line.
Starting point is 00:45:29 Russell Wilson will in the last week. Then it's Breeze, Matt Ryan, and Jared Goff. Good luck. Thanks for flying United. Those guys will get buried. All right, here's the other thing. So after Thursday night, a lot of people were saying, oh, man, a Cleveland Browns. Holy smokes at Cleveland Brown, playoff, playoff.
Starting point is 00:45:45 By the way, the NFC equivalent of the Cleveland Browns this morning is the Chicago. Chicago Bears, four and six in the number 10 seed. Do you think Chicago is a playoff team? Why do you think Cleveland's a playoff team? Cleveland's season ended yesterday because the teams they needed to lose all one. They're not winning their division over Baltimore. Can we all admit that in Cleveland? I mean, I know you're delusional, but we can all admit Baltimore is going to win the division.
Starting point is 00:46:10 So Cleveland now is racing for the wildcard spot against Indianapolis, Buffalo and Oakland, and they all won. and Indianapolis is not only six and four, but they've got a significantly better coach, a significantly better offensive line, and Jacoby Brissette is back. Indianapolis has a two-game lead over Cleveland, and the better coach, the better O line.
Starting point is 00:46:33 Oakland is now six and four. They've got the better coach and the better offensive line, and they play the Jets next. And then there's Buffaloes now got a three-game lead. They're seven and three over you, and Buffalo, you're not catching them. They're not going on a five-game losing streak, a three-game losing streak.
Starting point is 00:46:49 And so right now, we know New England's winning their division, Baltimore is winning their division. And then, you know, for the record, the Jags and the Chargers have the same record as Cleveland. And I hear nobody nationally talking about the Chargers or the Jags, and I think both have better roster than Cleveland. Certainly the Chargers do. So I think yesterday was the end of the sea. If Thursday night was not the end of the season for the Browns, yesterday was the end of the season.
Starting point is 00:47:13 So we know this about Cleveland. They're not going to have Miles Garrett. So your best defensive player, you're not going to have, your two games back, the equivalent of you in the NFC is Chicago, and nobody, nobody considers Chicago even worth a discussion after last night. The difference is Chicago just lost, you just won on Thursday, but the season's over. You've got to face Baltimore, you're not winning it. Good luck in Arizona with Kyler Murray without Miles Garrett.
Starting point is 00:47:42 You still have one of the bottom five coaches in the league. You're still the most penalized team in terms of yards in the NFL. And all the teams you're chasing won yesterday. Raiders now have the Jets. They're six and four. They're going to win that game. And Buffalo's now got a three game lead. They won.
Starting point is 00:47:58 And Indianapolis has Jacoby Brissette yesterday. And they tossed Jacksonville all over the field. So they're not going anywhere. And season over officially. I know, I know the media's got you. And for the record, Houston is also six and four. We know Houston is better than Cleveland. They lost.
Starting point is 00:48:13 I still think they. they'll win their division. I think Baltimore's just in a spot now where they're humiliating Seattle, they're humiliating New England, they're humiliating Houston. You don't want any part in week 11 of the Baltimore Ravens. Just like you didn't want any part of San Francisco in the first six weeks, you don't want any part of them? You want any part right now of Baltimore that's starting to remind me of the Cam Newton Panthers
Starting point is 00:48:34 that made the Super Bowl. It's not just they're unique. It's not their veteran coach. There's a certain psychology and emotional avalanche here building. in Baltimore where they feel like they are about ready to knock you out about seven punches into the fight. Starting point is 00:52:43 Joy, how are you? I'm great. Good morning. buddy, we do it every Monday at this time. We call it Colin right, Colin wrong. I'm a lot of both. I'm opinionated. Sometimes I whiff. When I do, I need to be called out. And on a Monday, once again, here we go.
Starting point is 00:52:57 Where Colin was right? Well, I said all year with, and this is why I didn't jump too much on the Cleveland bandwagon. I said, Freddie Kitchens is a rookie head coach, and you got a lot of big personalities and a lot of young players on Cleveland, and now Miles Garrett is out for the year. This team has an issue, no discipline. And it was the number one thing I worried about. Frankly, I'm not alone.
Starting point is 00:53:23 It was the number one thing most of us worried about. But it's ironic that Miles Garrett, their most athletic defensive lineman, is the one guy they need against Lamar Jackson in a must-win game and they won't have him. And I don't think they're going to beat Arizona in Arizona without Miles Garrett chasing Kyler Murray. They are what we thought they were. undisciplined and a head coach that can't handle all their young talent. Where Colin was wrong. The Lakers, I thought, would be an interesting team by about April.
Starting point is 00:53:55 They are way better, much sooner than I thought. LeBron's playing 35 minutes, looks energized, playing with incredible passion. They're 11 and 2, best record in the NBA. They are the number one defensive team, and their offense has been seamless. Some of this is just LeBron's taken over at point, 25 points, 11.5 assists a game.
Starting point is 00:54:19 He makes everything work. But I'm struck by how easy it is. Kuzma fits in, Danny Green, Dwight Howard fits in. All the pieces fit. Lots of length. They can run or go situational half court, and it's much, much smoother, much earlier than I thought. Where Colin was right?
Starting point is 00:54:39 I said this during training camp. This is not Zeke's team. It's Dax team. This is Dax team. Zeke is a really good running back, but I've seen them lose all sorts of games when Zeeke runs for 140 yards. Yesterday, Zeeke didn't do anything, and they won on the road. Dac threw for over 400 yards, 440 yards.
Starting point is 00:54:59 This is what I've been saying from day one. Zeke's a really good running back. But you can take Zique out of this team and give me Nick Chub, give me Melvin Gordon, and it would be the same football team. you take out Dak and replace him with Philip Rivers, it's not the same team. Or replace him with Baker Mayfield, it's not the same team. This is Dak's team. He's getting better.
Starting point is 00:55:20 He's an adult. I think we're watching a young man blossom in front of our eyes. His accuracy is improved. His pre-snap reads, clearly if you watch the Cowboys play have improved. And yesterday is another example. It's not Zeke's team. It's what I said during the holdout. I'd pay him.
Starting point is 00:55:39 but don't go crazy on this stuff because they need Tyron Smith and Amari Cooper as much as Zeke and yesterday proved it. Where Colin was wrong. I don't know. Am I wrong on Kirk Cousins? I guess I am. He overcame a 20-0 deficit. I guess I
Starting point is 00:55:54 I mean, yes, he's completing 71% of his throws, his passer ratings, 115, 21 TDs, three picks. I guess I got to give it up. You know, he's, it feels like he's managing a lot of this stuff and there's a lot of people wide open. I still don't kind of get it. I still think there are limitations in big games,
Starting point is 00:56:14 but he's the only quarterback in the last five years that's come from behind a 20-0-0 deficit. He stayed poised, and he completes an absurdly high number. And I've never really, I never really bought into it. I think he's the ultimate game manager. Case Keenham also won 13 games here, but at some point, you start, you know, at some point you start putting these numbers up and data can be skewed, but a lot of this stuff is. top of the league. If his name wasn't Kirk Cousins, wouldn't we be asking about MVP stuff? I mean, seriously, we would be, if it was anybody else, if Dak put up these numbers, we'd be like, yeah, Dax, you could put him in the MVP conversation. I guess I'm wrong on
Starting point is 00:56:52 Kirk Cousins. Where Colin was right. But I'm right on two at Alabama. My knocking him, and this was two years ago, I said he's a little smaller than I'd like. He gets super protection at Alabama, which he won't get in the NFL, and I worry about him always getting hurt. It's once again, he's hurt. I saw this with Sam. Bradford in college at Oklahoma. I liked him a lot, but I'm like, man, he gets dinged up easily. And I think two is becoming what I thought, which is kind of a mid first round, you know, very good prospect, but he needs to go to an offensive line that can protect him and a team with a running game. And, you know, the injury stuff has always been my biggest concern. And once
Starting point is 00:57:30 again, this weekend, he gets hurt in a big game. That's kind of, that's kind of what he is. Let's not deny it. Let's get him healthy. And maybe opportunities. He falls to a Carolina or a Chargers, which is a better fit anyway because they won't rely on him as much. Where Colin was wrong. Houston Rockets have won seven straight. I know, I know. I didn't think they'd make the playoffs. James Hardin and Russell Westbrook, I thought, was enigmatic and problematic.
Starting point is 00:57:55 Hardens the next Wilts Chamberlain. He's scoring like 40 a game. And Westbrook, to this point, anyway, is fine with it. Westbrook's, you know, he's scoring 20 and Hardin scoring 40. I still think defensively they got issues, and I think it's really early in the season. But they look good. They're working together. Westbrook's okay with his role. Still shooting too many threes for my taste. But so far, so good. Harden Westbrook working. And the Rockets have won seven straight.
Starting point is 00:58:20 Where Colin was right? Initially out of college, I worried about Kyler Murray. But by week two, I pivoted and said, no, this is real. I'm telling him this kid's good. This kid, unlike Lamar Jackson who moves around, this kid doesn't have anything to work with. This reminds me a lot of Russell Wilson. And we didn't buy Russell Wilson until year three. this kid's completing 65% of his throws with a bad offensive line with a passer rating over 90, 14 touchdowns, five picks. And again, he's doing it with nothing here. He didn't have the coach that we think John Harbaugh is.
Starting point is 00:58:51 He doesn't have the offensive line. It works. He's given San Francisco fits. Now, again, he comes out, took a 16-0 lead, and then they just don't have any players. I mean, he's having a kind of, they're doing a really good job in Arizona of coaching this team up. They're like Miami. They give you everything they've got. They just don't got much.
Starting point is 00:59:10 But Kyler Murray's a real deal. I pivoted early. And I think you're looking at it. There's a lot of Russell Wilson here. No question. A lot of Russell Wilson. Where Colin was wrong. Deshawn Watson got rolled over by Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 00:59:23 I thought Deshawn just held the ball too long. I didn't think he made very good decisions. No points in the first half has never happened to Deshawn Watson. Lamar looked more comfortable. And this was also. Deshawn had a fumble. I just don't think he played particularly well. He got sacks six times.
Starting point is 00:59:43 That didn't help. But in the matchup, which I thought was going to be Deshawn showing everybody in the world, he's still a notch above. He got overwhelmed by Lamar. Lamar was more accurate. Lamar looked more poised. Lamar looked more athletic. And I was wrong on that.
Starting point is 00:59:58 Where Colin was right. Celts have won, 10 of 11. Best record in the East. And they are significantly better without Kyrie Irving. Last year it was Brad Stevens can't coach stars. Well, maybe he can't. But maybe Kyrie Irving's a pain in the butt because Brooklyn now is 5 and 7. And the Celtics are significantly better without him.
Starting point is 01:00:17 Brooklyn's not as good, even in the east with him. And it looks like to me what happened is what we thought would happen. Is that Kyrie's just the flat earth guy? He's a lot of diva. He's hard to coach. He's an unbelievable ISO talent. Nobody would dispute that. But our takeaway is Kamba gets along with
Starting point is 01:00:36 Everybody, Kamba's 75 to 80% of Kyrie. He'll be a much better fit. And suddenly, Brad Stevens, what do you know, knows how to coach again. Where Colin was right? Off a by, New England was a pop gun offense. This is what they are. They don't have a deep threat. They need gronk.
Starting point is 01:00:55 I've said this since training camp. This gronk retirement, there's a reason Bob Kraft keeps talking about bringing them back. I think you can win a bunch of games with New England. But I'm watching them yesterday, and this is basically my complaint, is that Belichick is so frugal that at some point he's driving Tom Brady crazy. They just don't have a tight end. They don't have – he's got young receivers. They have a bad left tackle. And they were five for 16 on third down, eight punts, four point six yards a pass.
Starting point is 01:01:27 My concern about New England has come to reality. Now, I do think they get – Isaiah went back at left tackle. That part gets better. Brady gets less grumpy, but this is kind of what New England is this year. If it was not for a very uneven AFC, I would not think they're a Super Bowl team. But I think in the end, in the NFC, I don't think this would work. I think in the AFC, Baltimore is the only team that concerns me. But they needed a trick play yesterday to win.
Starting point is 01:01:56 They needed Julian Edelman and a trick play to win yesterday. All right, right, Colin wrong on a Monday. Trent Dilfer is around the corner. Two is going to be fine. Don't freak out about it. Deshawn Watson is going to be fine. Don't freak out about it. We've got so many good young quarterbacks right now in the NFL.
Starting point is 01:02:13 So many good young quarterbacks. Vic Synex nasal spray, cold and flu season is here. I've known Trent Dilfer for a long time, decade and a half, Super Bowl, Pro Bowl. Friend of mine, he took over.
Starting point is 01:05:44 He decided he lived in Austin, Texas. He decided he wanted to move to Nashville and take over a football program. And so we've been following his journey all year, and it's a young team, and they were hot and cold. Then he sneaks into the playoffs, and they kind of win. Well, what do you know? They are now in the state semifinals via the Coward Global Satellite Network. I am telling you, folks, he's like Sean McVeigh. He shows up and wins.
Starting point is 01:06:12 So we got videotape of Kyle McNamara. So I thought as the playoffs would go on, you'd meet your ceiling. But you guys jumped out to a huge lead and you're rolling. Are you a little shocked? I'm pleasantly surprised, Colin. The boys have really gotten better. We went through a tough stretch at the end of the year. But instead of getting better, they got better.
Starting point is 01:06:34 we're playing our best football. We went on the road three hours away to Knoxville. We traveled about 600 parents and community members. It was a great atmosphere. Super proud of this community, proud of these boys, for buying into the long-term development plan. And I think because of that, we're playing our best football right now. And we're excited about our next challenge in the state semifinal.
Starting point is 01:06:57 That's great. Now, I want to talk about, you know, we all know in the NFL that September can be fools gold. But when you get to week 11, I went back. back and I looked this morning. Last year, Week 11, the Rams in Kansas City were hot. Well, they were pretty good. The year before it was Philly and New England, they ended up in the Super Bowl. Two years
Starting point is 01:07:14 ago, New England. 2015, it was Carolina and New England. Carolina made it. It kind of feels like to me with Baltimore, if at this point you're hot and this is kind of who you are. Do you feel that way? Yeah, and that's interesting. You went back to that research. We've always
Starting point is 01:07:30 thought it was after Thanksgiving, but it makes sense. I mean, it makes sense if you're playing your best football right now, then you're a really good football team. You've gone kind of through this extended preseason now, which I call the first four games of the year. You've gone through your developmental period. You've gone through your Rocky Roads. You've probably seen your ceiling at times as well. And this is probably who you are as a team. I could not be more impressed with the Baltimore Ravens. I think whether, no matter who you are in the organization, you got to be feeling really good about the plan that you've executed, the total.
Starting point is 01:08:04 buy into Lamar, Lamar Jackson and this type of football defensively, how you're coming together. Like, listen, we're going to talk a ton of about Lamar Jackson, but let's talk about this defense too, and now how they're coming together and playing great defense. So they're an exciting team. I think it's inevitable.
Starting point is 01:08:21 It's going to be chiefs, patriots, ravens, you know, some mixture of that in the playoffs and to determine the Super Bowl and the AFC. Now, San Francisco was Baltimore for the first seven weeks. and then in the last three weeks they face Russell and Kyler twice, and the defense isn't quite as dominant. They've got Lamar coming up, Aaron Rogers coming up, Russell Wilson coming up.
Starting point is 01:08:43 I look at them and I think they look a little more vulnerable than a month ago. Do you see any of that that concerns you with San Francisco? Well, I think it's fair, especially with who they have coming up, but I also am super impressed with how many dimensions they've shown and the ability to win games with backup players, backup kickers. making big kicks. You know, while the two tackles were out, the backup offensive linemen still holding for it
Starting point is 01:09:09 and allowing them to run the football. Kittle out, backup tight end making plays. Manuel Sanders out, Sweeney making plays in the passing game. I mean, they're banged up pretty bad, yet they're still finding a way to win. They can't run it one week. They throw for 400 yards.
Starting point is 01:09:26 They need a big stop on defense. They get it. They need a big kick. They get it. I mean, that's the sign of a really good team. And when you're banged up, when your fastball isn't there, that you could win with your second and third pitch. And that's what the Niners are doing. Eventually, those guys are going to get healthy.
Starting point is 01:09:41 Eventually, they're going to be able to look back and say, look, we were able to survive some storms, weather some storms, and still win without all of our ammunition. Now we got all of our ammunition. We should be pretty darn good. You know, I look at the Cowboys. And I'm like, okay, like, we, DAC is, you know, you were early on this. Dax's not an issue. Zeke's terrific. O-Lines, good.
Starting point is 01:10:04 Weapons are very good. Michael Gallup, Cobb, Amari, and we know they have a pass rusher. They have a lockdown corner. Excellent tandem of linebackers, and yet they're six and four, and they struggle with Jeff Driscoll. So the common denominator on this,
Starting point is 01:10:19 I'm watching Dak get better. I'm watching the corner get better. I'm watching the receivers get better. I don't feel like the coaching's getting better. And I'm not one of these guys that fire the coach, but you shouldn't struggle with Jeff Driscoll. yesterday when Dax's throwing for 440 yards, Trent. It feels like the ceilings, the staff to me.
Starting point is 01:10:38 I'm really disappointing this defense. I don't, you know, coaches can only do so much. And I'll give Jason Garrett a lot of credit. He's the one that was patient with Dak Prescott. He's the one that's brought in new offensive coaches that's allowed to staff. And he's made some hard decisions that great leaders make. I point to this defense. And I don't know if it's staff or players.
Starting point is 01:10:58 I agree. They're talented young linebackers. but they're not playing great in the run game. Those are talented defensive linemen. They're not playing great in the run game. They gave up 120 plus to Detroit Lions team that every week we're talking about how hard it is for them to run the dang football. I mean, every single week you see this Cowboys team gashed up front
Starting point is 01:11:15 by the same two or three run schemes. They're giving up big plays in the passing game to a Jeff Driscoll, like you said. I am super. If I'm as disappointed in the Cowboys defense as anything in all of football, we talk about the Brown's offense and how disappointed. has been, I think the Cowboys defense has been equally, equally if not more disappointing this football season. They have to fix that if they're going to be relevant in the playoffs.
Starting point is 01:11:40 I want to talk about Cleveland for a second. I was talking to Tony Gonzalez yesterday, and Tony said, listen, I saw three or four times in my career at practice. Guys grab a helmet and swing stuff. He goes, so it exists. He goes, I saw some ugly stuff at practice. Generally games guys, you know, back off. But when you watch Miles Garrett, what was?
Starting point is 01:12:00 was your takeaway? And is this about players not respecting staff or just a player that's a little unhinged? That's a tough one. I agree with Tony. I've seen some uncomfortable things in practice like he has. I've never seen anything like that in a game. I mean, that's just becoming completely unhinged. There's some emotional something there that happened that made him lose his mind to cross that type of line. I do point back to just the overall culture in Cleveland. I don't disagree with the people that have said if you don't kind of squish this type of activity going on in practice,
Starting point is 01:12:40 this type of lack of emotional stability when you start to see it in your building, and it's going to surface itself in ugly ways. And boy, was that ugly on Thursday night. I think every issue we've seen that go on in Cleveland, that's gone on in Cleveland this year, me and you have talked about. I mean, it's everybody got so caught up
Starting point is 01:12:59 in the sizzle and the fancy stuff and the sexy stuff with all the weapons. They forgot about the substantive stuff and what you're seeing right now, whether it's poor defense, a lack of execution on offense, guys losing their minds emotionally, always points back to kind of that culture
Starting point is 01:13:17 in the building. And until that's better addressed, you're going to continue to be disappointed with the Cleveland Brown. You've watched Tua for a long time. I said earlier, today if he was my son and I knew he's a little small for the position he's been banged up a couple times and I wouldn't say it publicly but I would say it privately you know it wouldn't be terrible if you drop to the chargers or Christian McCaffrey in Carolina or Indianapolis at 2022 is that I think there's a little bit of fools gold the 25 richest quarterbacks in league history none made their
Starting point is 01:13:47 money in their first contract and of the 10 MVP quarterbacks being mentioned now none were top 10 picks except Mahomes. So to me, if he slides, I'm like, I kind of like him in Carolina. I kind of like him in Tennessee. I don't know if he will slide. What is your gut feeling about Tua, another injury, and what that does for his draft spot? Yeah, I think it's two separate conversations. I totally agree with you that if he were to slide and based on the information you just given, it wouldn't be a bad thing for Tua. I don't think he will slide is the other part of the conversation. Now, assuming there's no career-threatening aspect to this injury, which I have no idea about, I'm sure you don't know. But if he can be healed in a couple months, if he can perform this spring, whether it's at the
Starting point is 01:14:38 Combiner for his Pro Day, you got to remember, every scout, every coach, every GM has been at those Alabama practices. They've seen him on TV. He is uniquely gifted. He is by far away the best quarterback prospect in this draft. I don't think he will slide as long as they feel as if there is no long-term threat to him because of this injury. He is very, very unique. I've heard you talk about Kyler Murray being a lot like Russell Wilson. Two is the most like Russell Wilson of any quarterback that I've been able to coach at the high school level. He's as unique of a talent as I've ever seen. And I think he's in for a 15-year-old. year,
Starting point is 01:15:21 a Hall of Fame type career, as long as this injury doesn't derail him. Trent Dilfer, first season at Lipscomb Academy Head Coach. He is, let's see, state semifinals. This is exciting.
Starting point is 01:15:36 I just asked him, I said, where'd you move in town? And he said, I just sleep in my office. That's all I do. I just sleep in my office. Congratulations to you and the academy and keep kicking butt, Trent. Thanks, brother.
Starting point is 01:15:48 Yeah, we'll see. We got some quarterbacks right now. got three prospects, two of Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert. They all look like A prospects to me. And they're all kind of different. Herbert's size and mobility. Two is smaller, but a little more mobility. Burroughs kind of your classic Brady, athletic, but sits in the pocket. Between those three prospects and the 10, I was thinking about this, and the 10 young
Starting point is 01:16:13 quarterbacks I like. Lamar Watson, Darnold was good this weekend, Garoppolo, Dack, Kyler, Derek Carr, same age as Jimmy Garoppel, by the way. Derek Carr is young. Gough, Wentz, and Mahomes tonight. So I've got 10 quarterbacks, young quarterbacks in the league I really like. I've got three prospects that I think are special. So we're at 13.
Starting point is 01:16:33 Next year, the following draft, we have Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence, who may be better prospects. They got an Andrew Luck thing where you're like, oh, wow. Like, I've never seen that before. We're going to have 15. like and Derek Carr's a kid. Remember, guys are playing to be 40 years old now. Like we're going to have half the league has a star young quarterback.
Starting point is 01:16:59 I'm not even counting Jacob Eason at Washington, the Utah State quarterback, Jake Fromm at Georgia. I'm not I'm not counting guys like Gardner Minchu who some like, yeah, I mean. Teddy Bridgewater or Jaylor. I'm not considering Baker or Daniel Jones. I mean, I watched the Kaepernick stuff this weekend, the workout. And I'm like, all I know is this.
Starting point is 01:17:19 Maybe there's a team that can bring him as a backup. I'm not letting him get in the way of these young guys. I think young guys need total support inside the organization. They don't need a, you know, kind of a big political slash quarterback guy. 15 teams in this league. I don't remember a time in my life. And I'm not counting Daniel Jones and Baker or Josh Allen. 15 guys between what's in 10, what's coming three and the two after that.
Starting point is 01:17:47 Half the league now. has what I think is a potential Super Bowl winning quarterback. I'm not even counting Aaron Rogers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Big Bad. Don't count them. I'm not even counting those guys. I'm not counting Russell Wilson. So there was about six guys we know can win a Super Bowl. I got 15 guys in the next two drafts in a year and a half that I strongly believe her.
Starting point is 01:18:08 We used to go about eight quarterbacks. By the way, I'm not counting Matt Ryan. He's been to a Super Bowl. It is, it is, I mean, I'm just, I'm not getting the one. I'm not getting in the way of any of these young quarterbacks. You can like Kaepernick or not. I watch all the stuff this weekend. I'm like, listen, he's half political figure, half football figure at this point.
Starting point is 01:18:28 Here's what I do know. I'm not letting him, he's not getting in the way of those guys. I'm not going to have a big superstar kind of iconic guy come in with those guys because I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. And I think if you ask teams if they believe in their quarterback, their young quarterback, for the next year and a half, I think the number's like 24. You know, and I'm not even counting James Winston, who I think can plan this league. I just think Tampa's about done with them.
Starting point is 01:18:51 There's a lot of talent now. And all this is from these seven-on-seven camps. Trent Dilford didn't get a pitch. Peyton Manning, Trent Dilfer, Brett Farr, or Tom Brady, they didn't have those camps. The development's starting a lot younger now. Oh, my. And more pure athletes are playing the quarterback position than ever before. So they can run around for a couple years while they figure out how to do this thing?
Starting point is 01:19:13 Like, Lamar's kind of figuring it out. the quarterback playing this league man it's crazy I'm watching college kids who are true freshman there's a true freshman at USC he walks in you're like it looks like a senior these kids are getting 10,000 reps but the time
Starting point is 01:19:29 they have a lot more information now I mean that you're able to watch tape the nutrition and development is this on another level so it's it's just incredible how many great and we've got five A prospects on the next two drafts and I'm not even that I'm just talking
Starting point is 01:19:44 and the A prospects, Tua, Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, uh, uh, Joe Burrow, Justin Herbert at Oregon's sensational. We got five A prospects coming in. And 10 I like right now. Lord. Joy with the news. No, no, no, no, turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, two of those young quarterbacks played each other yesterday.
Starting point is 01:20:07 The 49ers were down 16 points early to the Cardinals, but Gropolo was able to bring the team back for a win. he threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns, but he did have two interceptions. 49ers' defense came up big, forcing a three-and-out after one of those interceptions and set up Garapolo's game-winning touchdown drive. That was the biggest deficit erased by the 49ers and a win since the NFC title game in the 2012 season. Yeah. That was a game we were really looking forward to watch, and I felt like it delivered.
Starting point is 01:20:35 And I also think, you know, Garoppolo had some mistakes early, but in the end of the game, never forget this. Tom Brady had a pick six against Atlanta. Like, I don't really care about, like, the bottom. We'll never forget. We will never forget the first half about that game went. I get to the point when at Garoppolo at the end of the game, I was like, okay, this is why I'm paying Garapolo.
Starting point is 01:20:53 Right. And he drove right down the field, and he made two or three big throws. And it's like, I got a short memory. If you make a lousy red zone throw early, Russell Wilson two nights, remember Russell Wilson on Thursday? Was it Thursday night? The San Francisco game, he made a terrible throw. But the end of the game, he made the drive.
Starting point is 01:21:10 Right. I have a short memory on interceptions in the NFL. I think we kind of overreact to bad games, good games. You're not going to have an all-time game every single week. And it's not how you start the game. It's how you finish it. And that's the difference between young quarterbacks who aren't getting the development and don't have the support and don't have the leadership ability to overcome those mistakes. Like you have to, like you said, have a short-term memory when it comes to that stuff.
Starting point is 01:21:34 Don't let it rattle you. Don't let it waive your decision-making to the negative. And how they finish the game is what separates non-playoff teams from playoff teams. It's going to come down to clutch moments. You're going to have hard games where you have to overcome that. That's why that Super Bowl with Tom Brady is so impressive. I mean, they could have given up in that spot. But it was a, it delivered while this next game did not deliver.
Starting point is 01:21:56 The highly anticipated matchup between Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson turned out to be very one-sided. CBS switched off that game. CBS, like we give up. Well, I mean, well, yeah, the Texans gave up. It's absolutely dominated. The Texans 41 to 7. Lamar Jackson continued his MVP campaign. campaign, 308 total yards, four touchdown passes, and his teammate, Mark Ingram, was quick to sing Lamar's praises after the game.
Starting point is 01:22:21 Now I would just like to introduce y'all to the man, the myth, the legend, the MVP frontrunner. If anybody else got to say something different about that, then come see me. I'm right here and Bemore outside the bank. If you got an issue with that, come see me. I'm about that. Big trust. Woo-woo. Lamar Jackson, in the flesh.
Starting point is 01:22:39 What was that? From now on, I would only like to be introduced in that fashion. Colin. We don't have to change that up, Joy, with the news to that. I mean, look, they're having fun. And how could you not? This is the way that they're playing is amazing. They're healthy. Lamar Jackson is on the MVP run. I mean, of course they're going to be having fun like this. That's what winning does. This reminds me of the Cam Carolina team where they started this season. You're kind of trying to figure them out.
Starting point is 01:23:03 And they have this unique quarterback, a veteran head coach. The defense got better during the season. And all of a sudden, you look up. And we love Seattle that year. And we loved everybody else and all these coastal teams and all of a sudden you look up and you're like, Carolina is just rolling over people. And I feel Baltimore's got that kind of emotion. So you got a unique quarterback. You got a veteran head coach. There's a lot of other higher profile teams around him like Mahomes and Brady. And I'm watching them and I'm like, never forget what that Carolina team did. They got to the playoffs. And before the Super Bowl, they steamrolled a couple teams. Well, their, their defense obviously was incredible yesterday too. I mean, he just had Houston's offense completely.
Starting point is 01:23:42 confused all day. So as incredible as Lamar Jackson was, Baltimore's defense deserves a lot of credit. And he loved Marr's the first Ravens player to have four touchdown passes in two games in a season. Obviously, he had five, week one against the Dolphins. Texans didn't score in the first half for the first time this season. So
Starting point is 01:23:58 they just, I mean, they just got demolished yesterday. They're demolishing Seattle, New England, and Houston. They've really taken them completely out of their games early. That was a game that we expected to be a, well, I certainly expected to be a shootout. I certainly thought the Texans would cover, and, I mean, it was just a blowout.
Starting point is 01:24:17 But that's just what Lamar is doing this season. Finally, Alabama was up 35 to 7 with three minutes left in the first half, when to Tunga Volo was tackled from behind and dislocated his hip. He has had his surgery as an update from Schefter. Oh, he has. Tua had his surgery, and his prognosis is, quote, excellence. Yep, there you go. Alabama also put out a statement saying that the surgery was successful.
Starting point is 01:24:37 Obviously, he'll miss the rest of the season. This was his second surgery this season after having his right ankle. paired in October. He's obviously expected to make a full recovery. Now, Saban said that Tua was in the game to practice a two-minute drill and that would have been to his last drive. I don't really want to get too crazy about whether he should have been in the game or not. I think Tua tried to talk himself into coming in. Injuries happen at any moment. I do think that this is significant, though. Obviously, Tua is in that range of the Baker, Russell Wilson, Kyle Murray, size when it comes to quarterback. So I don't really think that that matters anymore. Clearly, we don't have to
Starting point is 01:25:12 have this idea of prototypical quarterback stays in the pocket, six foot four, what, 230 pounds. That doesn't matter because clearly we're having success with smaller quarterbacks in the league now. So that that prototype is completely changed. But this is a lot of injuries in the last two seasons for Tua. And no matter how talented he is or what his prospect is, I mean, obviously like, you know, got blessed him. We hope he has a full recovery and I'm sure he will.
Starting point is 01:25:37 This is a lot of injuries. He had his right ankle in the SEC championship game last year, right ankle this year against Tennessee and now Hipplic is dislocated. It's something to think about. And I don't disagree with you that him falling won't be the worst thing for him, but the best ability is availability. Yeah, it's something.
Starting point is 01:25:54 It's a real thing. I think anybody that comes out and says, I'm going to pass on him because of his injuries, that is fine. That is fine. But if you're desperate at quarterback and he's on the board, I want to see the GM that goes, no, I'll take a linebacker from Ole Miss.
Starting point is 01:26:09 No, no, no. I don't think you should pass up on a quarterbacker. another quarterback. Let's say you brought him in. He's hurt by year two. Okay. I mean, remember, there are organizations in this league that have given up six picks to get a quarterback, and those teams ended up being fine.
Starting point is 01:26:22 You can give up pick. You can miss. The Seahawks missed on a running back. The number one pick a couple years ago. You can miss on quarterbacks. No, and I'm okay with missing on quarterbacks because the draft is a crap shoot anyway. Yes. Like whether you're missing the quarterback or the lineback or whoever, if you need a
Starting point is 01:26:35 quarterback and two is available, you should take. Yes. Absolutely. And I think he still will have a great career. I'm just saying it worries me. It concerns me this string of injuries. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news.

Matt Chatham played in the NFL for seven years, five with the Patriots, and was able to accumulate three Super Bowl rings. He does some Patriots broadcast network stuff. He's a very, very, very bright guy who writes for the athletic. Do we have a crisis in New York? England. I know that sounds weird at 9-1 via the Coward Global Satellite Network. Matt Chatham is joining
Starting point is 01:30:45 us. Listen, they don't have a vertical threat. They don't throw much to Ben Watson at tight end. You know, it's easy. You know, I watch them and I'm like, man, it's a little bit of a pop gun offense. Brady was grumpy Brady after the game, Matt. Is this a Super Bowl offense? Or is it just too limited? Yeah, I don't see them as limited. I think one of the things you did see in game yesterday was when a couple people went down, Dorset, I mean, he's a 4-3 guy. He's certainly a vertical guy. and he comes up in sort of their gimmick portions of games. He's a complimentary player. There's your vertical element,
Starting point is 01:31:15 but your vertical element isn't your lead element. Watson, I'm kind of intrigued about where that might go. Two targets yesterday, they hit on him a couple of times, but you're right. It's certainly not a reliance issue. It's not as if the tight end's a big spot as we've seen in the years past. So I think what we're looking at here is, I'll think again two a year ago.
Starting point is 01:31:32 The Tennessee game looked pretty bad within a few days of this right now in November. Steelers game, just 10 on the road. It was really ugly then. And you always have to sort of have that finger around your, or you know, sort of string around your finger kind of idea that then they entered the playoffs against the Chargers defense. It was hot, absolutely annihilated them, you know, seven drives in row kind of thing. Then go to Kansas City again, gangbusters.
Starting point is 01:31:54 So this is always sort of a work in progress kind of place. Clearly, yesterday was not good enough offensively. They're going to be hard of themselves. But it's a big transition time. First time since Washington, they've been out there with two tight ends. Matt LaCost gets his first action, first action. In game, Mohammed's new, twist his knee up in the middle. the second quarter on a punt return and sort of becomes non-factor in the offense. They stopped
Starting point is 01:32:14 targeting him. The other guy opposite him is to kill Harry and he's a rookie. He was the first action. And Dorset got knocked out in game with a head thing. So I mean, it was definitely all hands on deck in a game against a pretty solid defense. So I would just sort of hold that game as its own and we'll see what else happens from here. You know, it's the gronk thing, it's, I'm sure it's a great, you know, radio topic. But I do think there's a relevancy. I saw him yesterday and I said, you're not a blocking titan anymore, but you look like I can set you out wide. When you hear the grong stuff, Matt, and you see this offense, it kind of feels like
Starting point is 01:32:47 they would make a call or two to him, wouldn't they? It'd be interesting to see where his head's at. I just, I have a hard time buying that you would do as many different marketing opportunities he has, transform his body as much as he has. And you've hit on the nail here there, Colin, I would say if a guy is, you know, we know him as a 265-pound man, he's walking the streets as a 240. it's a bit speculative that comes in as a flexed out tight in if he if he's ready to roll. But what was always so wonderful about him is that he was able to flex at the 265.
Starting point is 01:33:20 If you're now flexed to 240 and you're still afooted, I guess as you would be as a 270-pound man, I don't know, is the advantage still there? Or does a guy like that who's sort of in a transition with his body take a month to get up to speed? And is that helpful, you know, in the middle of November now? So I think the idea of Gronk in that kind of, you know, I don't know, 19th whole kind of portion of his career would be interesting for a full season. I'm just not sure if you can project that end of December if you were, you know, to make the decision to arrive. Would it help maybe eventually? But not off the bat, I think it's a bit of a wild card.
Starting point is 01:33:52 When you hear, I mean, I watched Tom yesterday, Isaiah wins coming back. I think beyond the lack of a consistent sort of playmaker on the outside, I worry about left tackle. It looked like Tom last night worried about left tackle. He got rid of that ball a step early all night. You know, is Brady okay? I mean, we know he's good, Matt. That goes without saying. Do you see a gradual erosion, though?
Starting point is 01:34:15 Like last night, he just didn't want to get popped. What do you make of Brady's age, 46, 47 wants to play? Do you buy any of that stuff? What I do with last night is sort of say that was a really bad night by Tom, you know? And I don't like to try to connect it to something beyond that, because if you could do that in a bubble, I think there's probably half a dozen other times or if you took a singular performance and said, well, I know, I know what the birth certificate says, and that performance wasn't good. So therefore, we're in the middle of a, you know, a downward thing.
Starting point is 01:34:44 It just doesn't happen that way. I think with Tom, I think in the event that he has some stinkers, which I think he would acknowledge he did a night ago. You touched on sort of the idea of quick throws and sort of dumping out of plays quite often. I thought the screen game was really ragged, which kind of sounds silly to, you know, to bag on a quarterback about screen throws. but he seemed real jittery with the screens. Yeah. I'd get rid of it a little too quickly, throwing some lasers from four yards away from people.
Starting point is 01:35:10 They were uncatchable. So if, if he's starting to feel pressure and doesn't like that play concept, okay, maybe you move away from it. But one of the things I did notice in his struggles was the stuff that was coming out of play action where he'd come out of the fake,
Starting point is 01:35:24 turn from mesh, and next thing you know, it's in his face. And in those moments, he's not slide and reset. It was dump it and get out of the play. Yeah. So in saying that,
Starting point is 01:35:33 then don't do this kind of place. I think in the, you know, what you're seeing there is a team that had chosen to pressure. They're coming one way or the other. So the play action fake is effective. They can care less. So that's the moment where Tom, you know, with work and the less of these guys over the course of a month, you'll look at that pre-snap play and say, well, play action is not going to help me. I need to get out of that.
Starting point is 01:35:52 Maybe I shift everyone open, you know, Leslie likes to do them. We're just going to go spread now. You know, they killed it for a big chunk of the Baltimore game doing just that. So I think part of it right now, their biggest issue is finding out what works best for them. and when you look at who was on the field at the last couple weeks, it's really sort of a work in progress. I would have, it would be a bad chip to
Starting point is 01:36:11 take, to bet against them figuring out knowing that you're sort of in step one here of a seven or eight week step process. By the way, Baltimore, you watch them blowing people out. They feel like Carolina to me with Cam about four years ago where there's a Mike Tyson quality, where they're looking for
Starting point is 01:36:27 knockouts early and they're getting them. If they faced them again, what would you feel like as a New England guy? I would say Baltimore walks around with one of the most decided advantages in professional football right now, and it's their unusualness. I think if you're, you know, I call college football games as well, and we, you know, you hit in certain conferences where you have a bit of an outlier kind of approach. Say you're in the American and you catch Navy, you know, once a year. But if you're in that conference, you've got a staff, you've got players that have come up through, you know, their freshman software and senior year that have faced it. And professional football, you don't get that.
Starting point is 01:37:02 When the other offense is playing some goofy stuff, you get Wednesday, which is in light pads. You get Thursday, which is in half. And Friday a walkthrough. You get three professional days to try to figure it out. And it's unlike anything else you see. So I think Baltimore has this exceptional advantage over the field right now for all the people that see them once. Cleveland, they'll see them a lot. And they've now seen him, I believe, three times.
Starting point is 01:37:24 They were a two-score winner over them earlier in this season. It'll be interested to see how they handle the next time around. But while Baltimore continues to crest here mid-season, I think they're, you're, extremely dangerous. They're going to keep knocking people around. What's most intriguing to me, you know, being someone who covers this team, is how are they going to face the really high-end teams that see them the second time? I think that's when you'll learn if this is sustainable. Good stuff. Matt, Chad and Patriots, Three Rings, athletic as well. Great stuff. Matt, enjoy your work. Thanks for coming on the show. Thanks, Colin. Appreciate it. He brings a really interesting point out. You know, you forget this in the NFL. You get a couple of days to practice this.
Starting point is 01:37:58 It's the advantage, and you see this all the time, Bill Polan used to say he goes, you know, everybody built around Peyton Manning for 12 years. So everybody in our division is like, let's get a pass rusher. You really do, Belichick said this. Nick Sabins said this. I build to win the SEC. I build to win my conference. So, you know, Pittsburgh's going to see Lamar Jackson 10 times, but the time New England would face him three. And Cleveland now has seen him three times had more success against him.
Starting point is 01:38:27 But I kind of feel like Baltimore's Carolina doesn't look like anybody. You got this unique sort of athlete, a veteran coach. They're all in. The defense like that Carolina team got really hot at the midseason point. So if nothing else, it's driving everybody nuts. And I like new and interesting football. Baltimore's interesting. Baltimore, for about eight years, it was Aaron Rogers.

In five days, world heavyweight champion Deontze Wilder faces challenger Luis Ortiz in a rematch of their incredible first fight. Plus, Leo Santa Cruz, faces Miguel Flores for the Super Bowl. featherweight world title Saturday at 9 Eastern 6 Pacific live on pay-per-view or order on the Fox Sports app. A couple fights ago for Deontay, the bronze bomber Wilder. He fought Tyson Fury. Fury was very good early ninth round. Deontay knocked him out. People want to rematch. And now Deontay Wilder, one of the top
Starting point is 01:39:47 two heavyweights currently in the class fights this Friday. Let's bring him on the show. It's his second time on the show. The Bronze Bomber, who has a record of 40. one and one draw, that draw to Tyson Fury. I was just watching, Lord you guys, the ninth round was your best round. It's just amazing.
Starting point is 01:40:08 You guys from round one were swinging from the heels. There was nothing about that. You know, it's funny, you have a 95% knockout rate, which is in the class of Mike Tyson, Rocky Marchiano. You're not overly subtle. You want to end
Starting point is 01:40:24 fights quickly. So, I mean, This weekend, by the way, you're fighting a guy again that you fought before, Ortiz. He didn't look to be in good enough shape for you. Are you concerned a little bit that, you know, he said you were hitting with, some of your stuff was borderline illegal. He's kind of trying to taunt you. Do you feel he's trying to get into your head and taunt you before the fight? You know, most time fighters try to get in your head, you know, before a fight.
Starting point is 01:40:54 For me, you know, everyone has their percentages. boxing for as mental what's mental and what's physical for me boxing is 90 96% physical and 4% mental for me so i mean i mean 96% mental and 4% physical for me because if you can get in a person's head before fighting them then the battle is already worn you know and you know sometimes they say certain things to try to upset you make you get you off a game or whatever that's you a proper protocol, but my mind is already made up come Saturday night what I'm going to do. You know, I love this sport because the name of this game is pain, and I do that very well when I'm applying pressure to my opponent.
Starting point is 01:41:37 95% knockout rate, do you worry about when you've never lost a fight, you've had only one draw after the fight with Fury, because you're the two best heavyweights in the world, A lot of people said Fury out pointed you early. The ninth was clearly your best round. When that fight was over for you and you were as honest as you could be, you were out of the ring, you went home. Did you feel you won the fight? What did you feel two days later about that fight? Two days later, I felt 100% that I won that fight, you know, for sure.
Starting point is 01:42:12 You know, for the first four rounds, I definitely won the first four rounds. You know what I mean? And then with the two knockdowns as well included, especially with the last knockdown when Jack Reese was terribly counted so slow, you know, you took it away. He said he went out for the spirit of boxing and not the rules. What you mean going off of the spirit? Your job is to count. Do it.
Starting point is 01:42:38 That's an easy job to do, to count the 10, you know. And, you know, I felt like I was taking away from me. But, you know, I don't make no excuses. I don't hold grudges. You know what I mean? It's a blessing in disguise because now we have the rematch coming up. And, you know, you have some people saying he won. You have some people saying I won.
Starting point is 01:42:58 So it was a very controversial fight. And, you know, controversy sells. So I'm happy to be going in the rematch with him again to prove to everyone that what I did the first time, I shall do it the second time. By the way, the guy Ortiz, you're fighting this weekend's 31 and 1. aren't you concerned you're overlooking him? I mean, you're... You know, I never overlooked no one.
Starting point is 01:43:20 I never look past anyone, but I do look through you. I window shop a little bit. You window shop. I window shop. It's called window shopping because, you know, if I can see my neck, it's just like Fury's next. So if I, it's almost like if he's sitting back as a silhouette behind you or something like that, you know, and I'm looking through you.
Starting point is 01:43:41 It's like, I know where I need to go, but I know what I have to do. I have to get through you. you to go where I need to, you know, to get to where I need to go. So it's more like motivation for me, you know, seeing back, you know, you ain't, you ain't got no money, you just window shopping, you see it what you like and you know, like, if I work hard, I'll get it. Are you, are you largely overwhelmingly done with training for this weekend's fight? Are you done? Um, we got a couple of shakeouts. What's that mean? You know, meaning that I keep my blood flowing. You know, I don't want to this whole week to just stay still.
Starting point is 01:44:15 So usually we have like media workouts and then after that like before the fight I do like a shakeout, like hit the mitts, go over certain instructions. Yeah, get a sweat, get your blood flowing, you know, get the muscles, you know, loose. So you just, you don't want to sit all the way to the fight. You know, some guys strain all the way up
Starting point is 01:44:33 into their fight, but as a heavy way, I don't do that. I need my body to be able to be replenished with fluid and water, the proper food and water and stuff because we go so hard. That's heavyweights. You know, you bring all those big guys in.
Starting point is 01:44:47 I call them the Mighty Three. I bought the Mighty Three in. These guys are huge, you know, to get me prepared and stuff. So all that is just beating and beating on your body. That's why when a fighter get into the ring, no fighters never 100% getting into the ring. We can say we feel great. We can say we feel like we're in the best shape of our lives. And it's a feeling.
Starting point is 01:45:06 You may feel that way, but you're never 100% getting in the ring. By the way, MGM, Saturday Fox Pay-Preview. this will be, I think, your 10th defense of your championship. Do you fight differently seeking a championship and now defending it? Are you more cautious at times because you are the favorite? You are the Patriots. You're Alabama football. You're defending your title.
Starting point is 01:45:29 Do you ever find that sometimes that makes you a little less aggressive or less willing to throw a big punch or be aggressive and around? You're now defending stuff. Yeah. No, me, you know, like I said, I couldn't have brain the pain. You know, I don't hold that in the back. What I tell you that I'm going to do to you, I make sure I keep my word. I'm like one of those people that I definitely walk in like I talk it. And I think that's what, you know, over time people didn't understand.
Starting point is 01:45:57 Some people would think it was for like act or promotion, but over time they realized that I am who I am. Like, when I transform into the Bronx bomber, it's no, it's no, I ain't fin the whole back. It's no mercy. pity, you know, that I'm holding back. I want to apply as much pain as possible. So I covered Mike Tyson for years in about 72 hours before a fight. Mike shut down. He wouldn't talk. He got very grumpy. People didn't want to be around him. So this is Monday. You're still in a good mood. When do you, because I've heard this from fighters, the personality. You think I'm in a good mood. You seem very jovial. Okay. Will, is there a moment that it changes for you? The temperature in the room,
Starting point is 01:46:40 you change. You get a little quieter, more into yourself in the fight. Most definitely. You know, right now it's the transformation is happening. You know what I mean? A lot of things, you know, it's not funny to me at this point of time. I'm very serious, you know. Although I may smile, but inside it's like I'm serious, you know.
Starting point is 01:46:57 And it's just the closer the fight comes, the more you feel that. Intentity. Yeah, because you've got to think about it. You've been training for, I've been training for this one man for a month. I've been hitting the bag visualizing his face for a month the speed bag for a month my trainers
Starting point is 01:47:17 they're getting hurt holding mits for me one of my trainers had the body bag on him hitting him in the body and I separated his cartilage from his bone on his ribs you know what I mean thinking about this man
Starting point is 01:47:33 so if you continue to think about something they say the law of attraction and we draw what we think right So come Saturday night, November 23rd, I will draw what I've been thinking about. And what I've performed on the bags, the mitts, or anything else, thinking about this man, I shall do in the ring. One hour before the fight, you're getting taped up. What do you like? I'm totally focused.
Starting point is 01:47:58 I'm visualizing how I want to walk out, what I want to do when I get in the ring. Are you nervous at all? Never. Never. Not a in, not nothing. Look, I have more knockouts than some of these guys have fight wins, you know. I'm a knockout. How do you know when you hit a guy, there's a difference, you know, there are times that you punch.
Starting point is 01:48:21 It looks very George Foreman to me. It's heavy. Your hands are heavy. The guy you're going to fight Saturday, Louise King Kong Ortiz, can take a punch? Yeah. No question. He's got a chin. How do you know if you've heard him?
Starting point is 01:48:38 Because you land punches. How do you know if you've heard him? Is it the eyes? Do you sense body? How do you know when, all right? Because a lot of times you can land a punch. You guys are all 220, 2.30. You're big men.
Starting point is 01:48:54 How do you know when you hurt a guy? Well, it's all about body language. Experience and body language. You know what I mean? When you're in there and you've done something of you've seen an act so many times, you already automatically understand it. and they can identify it. And from identify, you apply pressure to it.
Starting point is 01:49:13 You know, sometimes you can over, sometimes you could, you could, you know, think it's something to happen, but it may not really be. You know, you see many guys that thought they hurt or fight it. They move in, you know what I'm saying? And they get popped. Yeah, get popped or they waste too much energy. And then now you're tired and this guy coming back, you know, the sport of boxing is so magical.
Starting point is 01:49:34 It's like we both can be tired in the ring. but if you feel like I'm more tired than you is just somehow like you suck my energy into you and you started to get you know more energized and come on like it's just it's all about how heroic your heart is how brave you are you know
Starting point is 01:49:51 and it's amazing sport you know how things work out I love fights oh man it's you have to think about so much you have to really just so when you got in the ring with Tyson Fury it was very aggressive initially he was doing a lot of taunting with you
Starting point is 01:50:05 he was trying to get into your head. And he does that for to win on the judges. So he's trying to manipulate the judges. Correct. Manipit. See, you do those tactics when you're trying to win the round, manipulation and stuff. See, I didn't really play into that. I was very serious going back and
Starting point is 01:50:20 forth. My mind was somewhere else. But I understood what he was doing to tunting. And, you know, I could have done it back, and we would have seen who won the tunting war, whatever. But that was he, that was trying to do when you did all that. Most definitely. I respect all fighters. You know what I mean? We risk our lives for others.
Starting point is 01:50:36 So with that being said, you must respect. Can you hear the crowd when you're in the ring? At times. Because this weekend they'll be rooting for you. Yeah, at times. At times. But most of the time, my mind goes into a ton of vision. No matter how many people is in the arena or in the room, like when I'm focused, I can just
Starting point is 01:50:56 ton of vision. I can just really just focus on you and me and block everything out. Joy, I've always been fascinated by this. I love fights. So my first job out of college, I got a job in Vegas. Mike Tyson was emerging. I was always, and Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns, so I'd never, I'd watch boxing as a kid, Ollie Foreman, then I get my first broadcasting job is Vegas.
Starting point is 01:51:15 Yeah. I mean, most guys' first broadcasting job is in Midland, Texas. I get Vegas, Sugar Ray Leonard, Hagler, Hurons, Mike Tyson. So it's this incredible thing. I'm this small town kid. I walk in, you're this small town Alabama kid. And Saturday night, you're in a ring. It's a heavyweight championship fight, and yet you have no nerves.
Starting point is 01:51:35 No. Was there ever nerves? when you fought? None. I mean, I've been doing it for years. I've been, it was time where, it was time when I walked out the house, you know, I, you know.
Starting point is 01:51:45 And you're a kid. Oh, by the time I got back to the house, I was into some fights. In Alabama? Oh, most definitely. You know, it was just, it was during that time. I think, you know, when you come up in certain areas and it's like, it's lack of activity, you know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 01:52:02 You make your own. You make your own. And sometimes, like, the wrong things become the fun things, because you don't have. have no other things to do. Have you ever gone back to your small Alabama home in Tuscaloosa and met any of the guys you used to fight as a kid? I haven't seen them personally.
Starting point is 01:52:20 They're aware of your... Most definitely. And a lot of them always say, like, man, you finally put that fight to some good use because I was a kid. You were a fighter. But I was like so close then. Like I was to myself. I only spoke when spoken to.
Starting point is 01:52:35 You know what I mean? I wasn't like no violence. the person would go around to look for that. You know what I mean? I was just this kid, you know, didn't have much. Just stayed to myself. And people would pick with me because I didn't have the final things. Or I wasn't, like, sociable like I am now.
Starting point is 01:52:49 Now I just talk way too much. You know what I mean? We kind of like it. That's why we bring you on the show. We like talkers on the show. We like verbal people. So you fight Saturday at the MGM. Are all rings the same?
Starting point is 01:53:01 Is the MGM the same as Madison Square Garden? Are there rings? Are there atmospheres? you know, the desert's dry. You can go out east or Miami and it's humid. Do you like Vegas? Yeah, I definitely love Vegas. I mean, I won my title there, so it's going to be...
Starting point is 01:53:17 MGM's a great venue. I've seen about a dozen fights there. Yeah, you know, they always have a great crowd as well. People all, you know, around the world comes there, you know. And, you know, somehow, you know, when they come to Vegas, they think there's no laws. When people out of the country come... It's a little bit... It's a rebellious place.
Starting point is 01:53:32 It is. Do you put on a show a little bit in Vegas? Vegas, do you feel like Deontay is the champ? You put on a little show. Your entertainment, too, not just a boxer. You're in Vegas. Yeah. You're putting on a little show Saturday?
Starting point is 01:53:45 I mean, what comes up me is what comes up me. Like, I don't fake nothing. Like, my personality is who I am. I don't, just because I'm in Vegas or I'm in New York or I'm in, you know, California, I don't put on no type of persona of being someone fake. But what we consider that as being a fake, you know. You know what I'm saying. You know what I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:54:07 I'm very real about what I say, what I do. I'm very passionate about what I say and what I do. So what people get of me is really me. You know what I mean? And I can be silly at times so I can, you know, go into my motivating type of person, you know, because I'm a type of person. I love to see people make it. I love to see people do well.
Starting point is 01:54:29 Even if they do better than me, I'm happy because somebody winning, you know, in life. Because I understand the struggles of life. You get so many different size of me. I'm so many different. But I don't sense you're fighting angry. Something like Mike Tyson often fought angry. You're not an angry fighter. Not at all.
Starting point is 01:54:46 You know, if I get angry, then I cloud my mind. I can't think properly. It won't be a clear vision of what I'm trying to accomplish in the ring. But when I'm just loose, my mind is loose. My mind is open. I can think about combinations. I can see things happening before they happen. and then it allowed me to take that approach, you know.
Starting point is 01:55:08 And that's how my mind works. You know, I have to have a clear mind. By the way, you sound like a quarterback. That's the same thing. Some guys play angry, you know, I'm not a big fan. I don't believe in, I don't host angry. Yes. I've had bad shows, but I don't host angry.
Starting point is 01:55:23 Deontay the Bronze Bomber Wilder. It's going to be Saturday, MGM, pay-per-view, November 23rd. He is once again defending his title, Luis King Kong Ortiz, who you beat. It was a 10-rounder. And he was not in the, to me, he better work on his cardio from the first fight. Then after that's the Tyson Fury fight. You're always welcome on our show. Deontay, always welcome on our show.
Starting point is 01:55:43 Thank you so much. A gracious champion. I love talking to you. And I'll be like talkative champions as well. Joy with the news. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. I don't even think I've ever seen you angry, Colin.
Starting point is 01:56:00 You know, when I negotiate my contract with management, I throw chairs and stuff. That's really. would get to the big box. So Todd Gurley had his best game in the season last night. The Rams won 17-7 over the Bears. He had a season high, 25 carries and 133 total scrimmage yards, as well as a touchdown. On the other side, though, Chubisky was not playing well for Chicago with 24 completions for only 190 yards, a touchdown and interception. He was pulled at the end of the fourth quarter for Chase Daniel. Kind of a strange situation where he got pulled because he's obviously having a poor performance, but the Bears insisted that he was being taken out because of a hip injury. Yeah, right. Matt Nagy said that Trubisky landed on his hip early in the game and he wasn't feeling right. How would you like to be Mitch Trubisky go to the grocery store
Starting point is 01:56:45 in Chicago? You know, I feel bad for Mitch Trubisky. I do. Because it's not none of this is personal, obviously, but it just, it's not working. He's not working. He's not the guy. And sometimes that's just how it goes. Yeah. And in a city like Chicago where they have extreme
Starting point is 01:57:01 expectations for their teams, and they should. Their defense is a championship level defense. they're excellent and they're just a piece or two away from being in contention and one of those pieces just happens to be the most important position on the field, which is the quarterback position. So, and that's what he plays. Now that said, the Rams got their running game going and now are the Ravens are only favored by three at Valley Rams next week, according to Fox Bet.
Starting point is 01:57:27 But they do play Monday night. So is it just, is it the Monday night thing that's kind of the? So Monday night, Rams host Baltimore. The line started picking them. It's now Rams. Ravens. Ravens minus three. I like Baltimore.
Starting point is 01:57:40 Now, Monday Night games are different. It's crazy. I don't know. I just think Baltimore's defense. Here's what I would say. Rams, Ravens to me, feels fairly low-scoring. And in low-scoring games, three points becomes more important than a wild game. I think it's going to be very 24-20-ish.
Starting point is 01:57:59 I think the Rams defense right now is really, really good. And I think Ravens' defense is, gosh. gotten so much better. It's like Marcus Peter showed up and they can scheme differently. Right. And the Ravens' defense was incredible yesterday. But I don't know. Maybe it's just the Monday night thing that's playing into it. So the Falcons defense dominated the Saints last week.
Starting point is 01:58:17 Had another impressive performance yesterday against the Panthers. Kyle Allen was completely overwhelmed. He threw four interceptions and was stacked five times. He's now lost three of his last four starts and has nine interceptions in the last two games. Keep Cam's number available? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:58:33 Is that the answer? Because it kind of feels like You know, you started breaking up with Cam, and now you've got to go back. How about if neither is the answer, and we're going to draft a quarterback? There's like five available guys. I mean, and they also drafted a quarterback last year. Well, that's what I think is going to end up happening. I think it's pretty obvious Kyle Allen is not the answer here. And I feel like you've already kind of moved on from the Cam Newton situation.
Starting point is 01:58:57 Like there's too much conversation about him possibly leaving to keep him. Yeah. You know what I mean? So I think it's just like that time has been. reached where it's like it's time to separate and he's going to go to another team and I still have success because I think he can still play. He's only 30 years old. Let me tell you something. If you're a rookie quarterback, one of the five that's going to get drafted in the first round, and there's going to be four to five drafted and you end up with Carolina and then you get
Starting point is 01:59:21 Christian McCaffrey and that organization, that is a, I mean, that is a one of these college quarterbacks is going to fall to Carolina at like 18 and you're going to end up turning around and throwing a two receivers, Greg Olson and Christian McCaffrey. What a great place to land for a college quarterback. Well, that's, I mean, we've seen so many examples of when that happens. When you'd fall in the draft, you end up with a team that isn't a complete disaster picking at the top of the draft where they need so much more than just a quarterback. So, yeah, I mean, the Panthers are going to be in that spot. What they end up doing will be interesting because, I mean, you have Teddy Bridgewater and some other players out there too available.
Starting point is 02:00:00 Enjoy it with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd lies. I was just looking, Deontay Walters, 34 years old, so he's going to fight Ortiz Saturday. It was a good fight the first time, went 10 rounds. And then Fury after that, I probably should have asked him, do you just wrap it up? You got 30 million bucks in the bank, 50.
Starting point is 02:00:19 Do you fight after that, do you think? I don't know, I should have asked him that. Bad job of journalism by me. You asked some really good questions. I feel like he still has a few years. So do you watch his fights. Although Ortiz, late in that fight, there were some people that thought Ortiz was getting the best of him. Tyson Fury, he knocked him down in the ninth.
Starting point is 02:00:35 interesting. I love fight, so I'll be watching it. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the I-Hard Radio app. Go further than ever with a Discover at Miles card. Starting point is 02:00:51 first year. Limitations apply. Discover.com slash travel for new card members only. Every Monday at this time, we go back to Thursday night. Every NFL game can be described in three words. Here we go. Steelers Browns, out of control.
Starting point is 02:01:10 That's the story of the season. Miles Garrett is Cleveland. Cleveland is Miles Garrett. Blame whoever you want. Miles Garrett's out for the year, suspended indefinitely, and they're going to need him. Their best defensive lineman against Lamar Jackson later and Kyler Murray, and they won't have him. This to me is the irony of the Brown season. What we've said all year about Miles Garrett is what we've said all year about the Browns. Man, they're talented.
Starting point is 02:01:34 Man, they're undisciplined. And I think this eventually is their undoing and they won't make the playoffs. They'll miss Miles Garrett. Cowboys Lions, Dax team now. First Cowboy to pass for 3,000 yards in the first 10 games of the season. He's absolutely getting better. It's funny. We understand that basketball players get better.
Starting point is 02:01:54 You know, they come into a sport and you're like, yeah, they grow. With quarterbacks, we're like, all right, this is what he is. No, not really. He's getting better. You can watch him at the line of scrimmage. leads the NFL passing yards, 3,200, season high yesterday, 404 passing yards. Look at that throw right there.
Starting point is 02:02:10 Sorry for our radio audience. That's like a big-time throw. That's like a 25-yard dart down the field. He's really playing well, and he's got the leadership stuff I love. Falcons Panthers. Got Cam's number? Yeah, Kyle Allen, he's got nine picks and four games. You know, I said a couple weeks ago,
Starting point is 02:02:27 he feels like a transition piece, but I watched the Green Bay game, and I watched this yesterday. You know, this is why he didn't play at the time. in college. He's a good distributor. He's got some strengths. But Carolina's got way too good of players to come home and get destroyed by Atlanta. And let's see what they do with Cam Newton. It should be noted. Cam Newton in the current quarterback market is a bargain. He's making like $18 million a year. Mahomes are going to sign for 40. So you don't have to, I don't love Cam, but at that price, Cam's worth $18 million, no question, in this league.
Starting point is 02:02:59 Jags Colts. First place Colts. AFC South, they're 3 in division. I think they're very well coached. Jacoby Brissette is back. I don't feel you get the roller coaster you do with the Texans. So, you know, the Colts of O's own Tennessee, this is a very good team. I think their ceilings low, but they're in a position now. Jacoby Brissette, rest of the way, schedule, I think, works in their favor.
Starting point is 02:03:24 Texans, W-O-W. Wow. Six straight wins for Baltimore, 34 points a game. biggest loss of Deshaun Watson's career. So we've seen Baltimore unravel Seattle and Seattle, dominate New England at home. And this puppy was over in about eight minutes. So it's not just a Lamar story.
Starting point is 02:03:48 It's a defensive story. That's a nice throw right there by Lamar. That was kind of an eye-opener. If your eyes weren't open against Belichick, your eyes had to be open there. Bill's Dolphins. Playoffs, I guess. Buffalo 7 and 3.
Starting point is 02:04:03 and there are three games ahead of Cleveland. You start looking at the numbers here. I think the Raiders are far more captivating, and I think Houston's better, but you start lining it up here with Buffalo, and they don't turn the ball over. They've had one turnover since October 1st. They play good defense.
Starting point is 02:04:20 They're well-coached. They don't turn it over, and I think that recipe gets them into the playoffs. Broncos Vikings still don't trust. Come on, Minnesota ran for 37 yards. They're one and two against teams. currently that would be in the playoffs. They fell behind 20-0.
Starting point is 02:04:37 I like the roster. It's Kirk Cousins feels like the greatest statistical game manager in league history. That's how it feels to me. I just, well, we came back in one. You fell behind the Denver 20-0 at home. Come on. You can't do that.
Starting point is 02:04:53 Saints Bucks. Back on track. Speaking of turnovers, Saints kind of found their way yesterday. Went back to a little more of a power running, game. Previous week, they drew Breeze through 45 times. Kamara ran four times. The run pass ratio was all messed up. Saints are actually, they're a power running team. They don't throw the ball down the field. And yesterday they went back to what they sort of are, hand the ball to
Starting point is 02:05:18 Kamara, make smart throws, get it to Michael Thomas. Jets Redskins, only I watched. Sam Darnold was great. 121 passer rating. Listen, Darnold has a terrible throw every Sunday. One. Just awful throw. Back-to-back weeks, though, with a bad old line, Sam Darnels looked very, very strong. Cardinals Niners, exciting but sloppy. Jimmy G. had two picks. They fell behind 16-0. Kyler Murray, second time in three weeks, does give San Francisco problems, but give Jimmy Garoppolo. Whitlock doesn't like him, but again, he engineered without George Kittle, a game-winning drive late. You got to give him credit for that. They came when it mattered.
Starting point is 02:06:04 They delivered, but it was sloppy. Bingles Raiders, silver and back. Three straight wins. Derek Carr is completing over 72% of his throws. Gruden is conjoined with the fans. It kind of works. Josh Jacobs, Derek Carr, all their draft picks offensively work. Richie Incognito comes over.
Starting point is 02:06:26 He works. It's a real thing. You can feel it. got the Jets next. They'll win that game and have a four-game winning streak. Patriot Eagles. Philly not special. Eagles have failed to throw for over 200 yards in half of their games this year. Once Deshawn Jackson got hurt, they have no deep threat. Just Philly's got no explosive dynamic playmakers on the outside because of the Deshawn Jackson injury. And you saw what you get with them on display. It's a lot of seven-yard curl patterns. Cross your fingers with Nelson Aguilar.
Starting point is 02:07:00 Bears Rams. Remember Todd Gurley? Yeah, 133 all-purpose yards. Offensive line on the interior played better. Listen, he doesn't look like the Todd Gurley of yesteryear, but he was good. He was affected. He's always been a good receiver.
Starting point is 02:07:17 I thought Jared Gop had a little extra time. Didn't play great. They didn't have all their weapons. Robert Woods was out. Brandon Cooks was out. But it's a win. Chief Chargers tonight. Time to elevate.
Starting point is 02:07:28 Mexico City, 7,200 feet. in the air. Chargers went to Colorado for five days to train at 6,000 feet. Kansas City mad at the league did not. I like the Chargers with an upset win tonight. Kansas City's lost four of six. What do we say tomorrow if Mahomes loses? What do we say tomorrow if Patrick Mahomes loses? We're done for today. The herd. Speak for yourself coming up next. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning, the internet lost its mind and nobody's telling you exactly what happened.
