Whether you're watching on Fox Sports 1,

thanks so much for making this part of your day.
We're live in Los Angeles.
Joy Taylor alongside. Good morning to you.
Good morning.
We got a great show.
Charles Robinson from Yahoo Sports.
We'll join us.
We'll get the nitty-gritty of what America really, really, really cares about,
which is the Rams really adopting the Chargers logo for their new hats.
Is that what they're doing?
And maybe some Brady and Jack Prescott and other discussions.
Tyrell Williams of the Raiders, formerly of the Chargers,
will give us his thoughts on who his quarterback in Sin City will be next year.
B.J. Armstrong, a three-time NBA champion, who, of course, made shots with The Goat, Michael Jordan.
Give us his thoughts on LeBron James and on what happened in Brooklyn over the weekend.
Plus, T.J. Hushmanzano will join us. So we got a jam-pack show. Joy's got a ton of news to get to, including the Ivy League tournament, which a lot of us follow college basketball.
Wait, the Ivy League has a tournament. Not this year. It was just canceled due to coronavirus concern.
So we'll get to that.
There are more other stories outside in the world of sports.
Let's start, though, with Dak Prescott, who we're getting closer and closer.
Monday is the franchise tag deadline, right?
There's all deadlines bring deals.
Has ever heard that expression?
Deadlines bring deals.
And whether it's the March 18th year and year begin deadline or the this upcoming Monday franchise tag deadline, deadlines bring deals.
And Dak Prescott is going to get a new contract.
from the Cowboys.
Like we have hypothesized over whether or not it would be a good idea for the Cowboys
to pursue Tom Brady.
For the Cowboys, I've offered up the let him walk and draft, you know, trade up and draft
Tua, figure out a way to get Tua there with a ready-made team with the quality
offensive line.
You've actually saved money in the end.
But I'm also a realist in regards to, look, he's not going anywhere.
He's eventually a deal is going to get signed.
And I sat here yesterday and Mark Schlerath, who I like, respect, admire, and understand he's been through this 10 times over as a player through three Super Bowl winning teams.
He's like, look, in the locker room, you got to get another dollar more than the other guy.
That's kind of forwarding the cause, which sounds great.
But here's the flaw with it.
Well, there's several flaws with it.
you are worth what someone's willing to pay you.
So if Jerry Jones says, I'm willing to pay Dak Prescott, he turned down 33, let's say $35 million a year becomes the asking price, that's what gets the deal done.
If Jerry Jones is willing to pay, that apparently is what he's worth.
But you're also worth what the market will bear and what other suitors may offer.
And this is where the Cowboys, if they really wanted to, and again, I'm offering up to you that the likelihood of this is the 0.0001%, like death by bee stinging and shark biting sort of numbers per year.
But does anybody think on the open market, Dak Prescott would command $35 million a year?
The answer is no.
The answer is no.
That's why it's a business, but this is a very unbusiness-like decision.
Because it was really a business decision.
You say, go ahead, Doc, go get an offer from somewhere else,
and we'll see if we can match.
If there was no salary cap, if they did not have the franchise tag implications,
if he was actually allowed to go pursue whatever the biggest contract is,
he's not really.
And it feels like the Cowboys, who we told you before,
Jerry Jones is going to relent.
that's who Jerry Jones is.
He's the dad who takes away the cell phone.
No cell phone for two weeks.
Then the very next night the kid says,
but I can't do my homework without my cell phone
because all my friends know exactly what we're supposed to do.
Okay, here.
Let's limit your screen time.
That's Jerry Jones.
Many of you, I'm sure, his parents as well.
But if Jerry Jones really wants to overpay for this fine,
we have all been, I think many of us,
if you've owned more than one home,
not at the same time.
I'm not talking cowherd type of,
I have a home here,
I have a home there.
Hey,
doesn't everybody have another home?
No, I'm not talking about that.
I'm talking about if you've,
if you've bought a house,
I'm pretty sure you've bought more than one,
maybe more than two.
I'm not a 30-year fixed guy.
No one I know lives in a house for more than 30 years,
let alone more than five years.
Nonetheless,
if you've owned a couple of homes,
you've probably bought a home where
you're like, man, why did I pay so much for this house?
Well, see, the comps, the one down the street went for $4.50.
And the one across the street went for $4.75.
So your house went for $5.
Like, yeah, except mine's not in as good a lot.
I can't actually sell it for five.
I overpaid because I was trying to keep up with the Jones and keep up with the
comps in the market.
And now I'm underwater on a house.
That's the Cowboys.
Right? That is what they're walking into.
It's like we all know what they're walking into.
Every single one of us.
This is not to tell you that Dak Prescott can't play.
This is not to tell you that Dak Prescott is not capable of competing for and even winning a Super Bowl.
I don't think Dak Prescott's a top five quarterback.
Frankly, I don't believe he's a top 10 quarterback.
He's somewhere in that fringe of 8 to 15 depending upon what's around him.
he's not one of the elite guys.
But I would also say that Jimmy Garoppolo's not either
or hasn't shown himself to consistently be,
and he should have won a Super Bowl this year, right?
Nick Foles, who's a career backup,
who's gotten benched for Gardner Minshu,
also won a Super Bowl.
Like we could go through the,
whatever you think of Joe Flacco, through his career,
he won a Super Bowl.
So we do, in our mind, think,
you've got to be an all-time great to win a Super Bowl
and history, especially recent history,
doesn't always agree with that.
Many times it does not.
Even when Peyton Manning won his second Super Bowl,
he was terrible his last year.
Nine touchdowns, 17 interceptions.
The offense did nothing to win the game.
Nothing. Special teams, defense,
won that game against Carolina Panthers.
But it makes it prohibitively more difficult
to have better players than the other team,
to be better to lift up the quarterback,
if you're making top dollar.
The stats are really, really simple one.
The last 10 years, the guy who has taken away
has the highest salary cap number in the NFL,
all been quarterbacks,
eight of them haven't even made the playoffs.
You've become so top-heavy.
You paid so much for that house.
You can't furnish the damn thing.
That's what you're doing here.
You're overpaying for a house
because of the neighborhood you think it's in,
even though you're like, yeah, it's really not that good a lot.
It's not a main street.
And then once you pay that much for the house,
are you going to be able to decorate it or redo it or repaint it
or put in the pool?
They're like, man, if this had a pool,
that's what Dak Prescott is.
He's the home that's on the right street that's got all the right stuff.
But man, you really need to add doors, windows, new floor, paint.
And if you had a pool, it would be amazing.
But if you end up overpaying for the house, he ain't got money left for all that stuff.
And so you're just left with the house, which is fine, but needs to be redone and needs to ultimately
have a pool for everybody to be happy.
That's Dak Prescott.
And those houses, if you bought a house before you're sitting there and you know what
ends up happening after like a year of being in it, you end up resenting the house.
You can't even enjoy it.
I'm speaking from personal experience joy.
This actually happened to us.
So when I first moved to Connecticut, we bought a house.
We liked it, but there was another neighborhood that was like, there's a river in between.
Direct shot a mile away.
We moved into the neighborhood, which fit us better.
Like, everybody had little kids running around or whatever.
It was awesome.
And the house was fine, but I overpaid for it.
It wasn't, there was a bunch of things, little things I didn't like.
And so instead of enjoying that house, which is still a great house, just I overpaid for it, right?
instead of enjoying that house, I ended presenting that house.
And I think we were there like two years.
We actually bought a house, six houses down the street, which was a better buy, like my favorite house I've ever owned.
Did you have another option?
Did you have time?
Yeah.
We just, we got into the, you know, you get into sort of like bidding for things and you're like, all right, yeah, we'll offer you a little bit more.
Yeah, we'll offer you a little bit more.
Like, all right, we're only going to sell our house on contingency.
And then you start negotiating your own home.
You sell your house.
You're like, wait, I didn't actually totally want that house.
house, I just wanted that neighborhood and I just waited. Yeah, it was learning experience.
But you have, I mean, Jerry Jones has done enough of these deals before that you would feel like
if they would just have patience, ultimately, I don't know if you get your way. And some of this is
the salary cap and the idea that you can franchise tag him. And if you really don't think a bigger
offers out there, you just, the basic franchise tag is like $27 million, $28 million.
Look, I'm not disputing the fact that
Dak Prescott has played for a sum of money
that was less than what he should have commanded
on the open market previously.
But that's not part of this calculation.
Dak Prescott being underpaid the first couple years of his career,
being part of this contract negotiation to me
is like when people say, well, LeBron should win the MVP because he's 35.
Like, no, if he wins the MVP,
it should be because he's the most valuable player in the league.
The Dab Prescott is worth more money than every quarterback in the league.
It should be because he's worth more money than every quarterback in the league.
No, I agree with the LeBron's sentiment.
But for Dach Prescott, like from Dax's perspective, that absolutely is a thing.
From the Cowboys, sure.
Yes.
Should it be a thing?
For Dach?
Yes.
I know what you're saying for him, it's a thing.
And I know what you're saying for the Cowboys is not.
But should, if you were advising Dax, you'd be like, man, you should really hold that against them.
Yeah.
Yeah, I would.
Why?
Because he's done a lot of winning for them.
He's kept the franchise stable, the biggest brand in all of sports,
and he's been playing on a fourth round rookie contract.
Yeah, being severely underpaid, yes, I would use that as leverage for me.
They may not care about it, and they probably shouldn't because I do agree with you.
But yeah, if I'm DAC, of course.
Yeah, it's interesting because there's also the perspective of the money that he made outside of the Cowboys.
He would not have made had the exact same success.
with any other franchise.
Is that a fair statement?
Yeah, but again, like they're talking,
you're talking a small amount
as compared to what 100 million,
$115 million guaranteed.
Like he didn't make $100 million.
But he wouldn't have,
and even if he was on a rookie first round contract,
he would not have made the money
that he made off the football field with the Cowboys.
Right?
Like, we're thinking that he would have had $100 million dollar contract.
If he was a first round draft pick,
he wouldn't have.
They only make like, I don't know, 30 or 40 million over the first four years of their contract, most of them.
Right, but DAC hasn't made remotely close to that.
He has off the field.
Supposedly.
Like, do you think he has an Oinko's deal if he's a quarterback for anybody else?
Yeah, maybe.
Depends on how it goes.
But look, I'm on DAC side in this whole situation I happen from the beginning.
I always want to know what the plan is, like what's the replacement.
And everybody can't be the Dallas Cowboys quarterback.
It's a different situation than everywhere else.
Correct. It's a different league playing with the Cowboys than playing with half the other franchise.
All right. More of that to come. And coming up next, did Tom Brady finally give us a sign?
Just Tommy, just give me a wink. You know, blink twice if you're going to the Chargers.
Blink three times if you're going to Vegas. Did Tom Brady finally give us a sign?

I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it,
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns,
Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rep, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to The Cliffer Show on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
What's up, fam? It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast, Point Game is about defying the odds.
Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows.
Without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly.
He running up the court, licking his fingers, why he got the ball.
Like, you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah.
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court,
and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,

Doug Gottlieb, in for Colin.
This is the Hurt. Joy Taylor alongside.
She'll get to us with the news in just one second.
Charles Robinson is going to join us.
senior NFL reporter for Yahoo Sports, who we want to get his thoughts on the latest injury report on Tua to Biologa.
And, of course, Tom Brady discussion.
I want to get to that in a second.
Plus this big, the Rams hat, was it soft launch?
Is that what that was?
The soft launch of a Rams hat, which is not going to overwhelm.
It feels like that hat was less like than me on Twitter.
And that's really remarkable stuff to get in line.
Rams hat.
All you want in this world, like, we just want to sign.
Like, I don't necessarily need, you know, need Jay Glazer to hint at it.
If Jay Glazer says where Tom Brady is going, damn it, that's where Tom Brady's going.
Tom Brady might even know where Tom Brady is going.
If Jay Glazer says it, I believe it.
That's not a sign.
That's just kind of a fact.
That's written in, that's like spray painting something in cryline.
It ain't coming out.
But all you want is just like, give me it, Tommy.
Tommy.
Give me a sign.
Blink once if you're okay.
Blink two of Belichick's called you captive, right?
Blink three if you're going to the Raiders.
Blink furiously if you're going to the Chargers.
So I don't think I know, having worked in this business a long time.
That stories don't just get out because they leak out.
Oh, here's a secret.
don't anybody tell it, oh, somehow that secret got out.
Like, that's not the way it works in negotiation.
So what are the stories that we've been told?
Right.
Well, yesterday, I'm kind of working backwards.
Joy shared with us the, what was it, Charlie Weiss sound?
Right?
Charlie Weiss had said that nobody knows nothing, make sure and get that out there.
All right, so no one knows anything.
All right, I'll take him at his word, that we can't have any liens about Tennessee
or any nonsense about where he's in the past.
We do know what has been leaked,
and usually when it's leaked,
is the Raiders, two years, $60 million,
which seems like a hefty sum of money
for a 43-year-old quarterback,
but it also seems like it was leaked for a reason.
You would only leak the Raiders if you weren't going to go to the Raiders.
You would only leak that sort of money
if the negotiation was about on some level money,
and the feeling that the Patriots weren't going to get to that number
unless somebody else, kind of like we talked about with DAC.
Dak is not a true free agent,
so we don't really know what would be out there financially for him.
For Tom Brady, two years at 30,
seems to be a high asking price that the Raiders are willing to pay.
All we wanted was a sign.
And look, in terms of personnel, the chargers make a ton of sense.
Now, some of this is I know more about this team than I do any other team in the NFL.
They work out very close to where I live.
I know so many people in the front office.
Colin and I talk about them like the only Charger fan
in the history of national sports radio, television.
But they got dudes, right?
Keenan Allen and Mike Williams,
Austin Eckler, who just got re-upped.
On the defensive side, Bosa, Ingram, Derwin James,
loaded, and the number six pick in the upcoming draft.
Personnel has not been an issue.
Offensive line has been, which they've slowly addressed in this offseason,
plus they just had some weird things that go bump in the night.
Right?
They drafted Forrest Lamp a couple years ago,
and he gets hurt, never plays his rookie year.
And so eventually his role, he'll expand his role,
but they drafted Forrest Lamp instead of Patrick Pohms.
Quarterback situation would have been a little bit different.
Anyway, all you want is a sign that Brady's interested, right?
And since he's not going to look at the camera,
he's not going to blink furiously if he's interested in the charges,
maybe this is one.
yesterday he opened
and I think Joy
shared this story as well
199 productions
199 productions
it's a TV
and filmmaking production
company
he opened it in southern California
now look you can make movies
anywhere anywhere
Goulet can tell you his home state of Connecticut
they offer all kinds of tax benefits so lots of movies
and films are filmed in parts of Connecticut
when the production companies are in New York
like just because there's lots of production companies in L.A.
that don't actually operate in L.A.
I understand that.
But is it possible that Tommy's given us a sign
that he's coming to the Chargers?
Because then you start to kind of connect the dots.
You're like, okay.
The home in Greenwich, you know, that's close to New York,
but he's not going to play for those teams.
He's got a home in L.A. already, right?
All right.
Production company.
She's a supermodel.
like L.A. makes sense for her.
LeBron just moved out here.
Like it feels like there's a text chain
of like super, super, super, super, super rich,
super, super, super famous people.
And they're all like, so we're all eventually
going to meet in L.A. and live on the same street.
And nobody will bother us, right?
Like, yeah, it does.
It does feel like, look, this is the David Beckham.
David Beckham came to the galaxy
to legitimize the MLS.
And it worked.
Tom Brady would legitimize the L.A. Chargers.
It would get him into the LA market.
It would expand his TV 12 brand.
And it would fit with his TV and movie production company.
Tommy, you're giving us a sign?
Blink, blink furiously.
Blink, if the production company is a sign that you're coming to the Chargers.
I'll give you time.
Let's get to Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So LeBron led the Lakers to two big wins over the Bucs and the Clippers last
weekend. In an interview with the LA Times, Lakers assistant coach, Phil Handy, said that LeBron
has a different mindset heading into the playoffs and one of the biggest defensive assignment against
their hometown rivals. So before the matchup with the Clippers, LeBron texted Handy and said,
I'm guarding Kauai. Which kind of lends a little bit to your Jordan analogy yesterday at the
beginning of the show that LeBron is kind of taking this on himself and taking what
already been an incredible career and year with the Lakers to another level with the
just even him asking to guard Kauai says something more about this MVP race to me like he
said he doesn't care about the MVP but when you do something like this it's like I think you
kind of do and to be and to be fair to LeBron who obviously doesn't need another regular season MVP
I do think it would be a nice nod to his time with the Lakers to win a regular season MVP with that.
Completely agree.
It would mean a little something more to him.
Oh, I think it means a lot to him.
I think it means a lot to him.
You know, he watches all of these shows.
He hears the chirps.
He reads on, he's socially active on social media, right?
I mean, he's well aware that.
There were people that said he came to L.A. to make movies and commercials and for his kids and not to play basketball.
And he may have gotten lost in some of that stuff at times during his first year.
But during his time off, the off season, it feels like he refocused.
And I also think he probably understands a little bit about, like, how this town is wired by Kobe Bryant.
It doesn't mean that Kobe was a perfect basketball player.
He was flawed.
but the Lakers and Laker fans came to know their superstar as like, hey,
even if Kobe missed the last second shot,
we'd rather have Kobe taken than anybody else.
Even if Kobe gets beat defensively,
we'd rather have Kobe guarding the team's best player.
And I think there's a little bit of that too.
But yes, you're right.
The MVP means something to him, that game meant something to him,
and putting out that I'm going to guard Kauai Leonard,
who he struggled to guard before.
And, you know, the...
Is there...
Is the crosstown rivals or in building rivals, best player?
Yes.
And was considered going into this season, the best player in the league.
Yes.
It absolutely means something.
And I do agree with you there that there's, you know, when he was in Cleveland's,
there's no standard because they didn't have a championship.
Better word you just used to me.
Good job.
Sorry.
No standard.
You go to Miami.
There is a standard.
They do have a championship.
They do have Pat Riley.
It's a different environment.
You left your hometown.
Like there's expectations there.
in L.A.
It's beyond a standard.
It's a way of life.
Excellence, achievements, awards.
It's ingrained in everything that everyone is doing here.
Everyone's trying to make it or make it big.
So there is no complacency.
Not that LeBron is ever complacent, but last year was a disaster.
It wasn't just that they didn't win.
It was a constant, just circus of news and all off-the-court drama and front-office problems.
There was also, yes, there was also kind of a coup d'etat attempt by LeBron and his guys, right?
Like, they wanted their coach, they wanted their players.
You know, they wanted to kind of run the problem with.
It's, LeBron, if LeBron really came here to win a championship and not just to make movies,
then he should have what's, what, if you're going to get LeBron, put the pieces around LeBron that make him successful.
No, I'm not saying don't put pieces around him.
I'm saying the idea of, you know, Rich Paul clients getting their way.
LeBron getting his way with his coach.
And I feel like, look, they end up hiring a coach that LeBron hadn't personally approved.
And it's end up working out really, really well.
And I think he's figured out that to win in L.A., you're not going to win by taking over the Lakers organization.
That's always going to be a mom and pop.
They're always going to be run that way.
You want to win in L.A., win the games.
Compete like he competed on Sunday.
That earns everybody's respect.
And that's all anybody cares about at the end of the day.
Yeah.
So the Nets part of ways with head coach Kenny Atkinson over the weekends.
and according to the athletic, a big reason, a big reason for his departure,
was Kevin Durant's concerns about getting a title in a team meeting last week,
a very allegedly rowdy team meeting, very spirited team meeting.
Durant reportedly said that he did not think Atkinson was building the culture
needed to bring a championship to Brooklyn.
Okay, so.
Which is kind of interesting off of what we were just talking about.
I actually respect what Kevin Durant says in this spot.
He knows what it takes to win a championship.
Yes, I would agree.
And being the fly on the wall and not playing actually does give you a chance to step back.
It gives you a different perspective.
But I was under the impression that the Nets had the best culture in the NBA last season.
And then they changed personnel and now they don't have a championship culture.
Why were you under the impression that they had the best culture?
That was the running narrative in the NBA.
That was why Kyrie wanted to play there.
Why even Kevin Durant said he watched Kenny.
Atkinson and how his team played and how they all were pulling for one another.
And that's why he wanted to play that by Kevin.
Like we're taking Kevin Durant's word for it.
And I don't think that he's lying.
But I also think that Kevin Durant seems to change his mind a lot.
Well, I mean, there is something to adding Kevin Durant, even though Kevin Durant is not
playing right now and Kyrie Irving that can change the situation, the dynamic of the team,
dramatically.
Yes.
Look, I think we understand, like this is like Brett Brown.
Brett Brown's coaching right now, a team, he wasn't brought in.
to coach at that level. He was brought in to just
stabilize things, which is Kenny Atkinson,
right? You bring in to just stabilize things,
start, you know, create a culture of
winning and also analytic driven
basketball. A lot of this, though,
apparently stems from Dandre Jordan, who's like
his boy, who's
buddies with Kevin Durant.
There was some issues with that,
absolutely. And apparently,
Atkinson felt like he had lost the locker room,
saw the writing on the wall, and decided he'd rather leave now
than late until the off season. Now there's
conversations about who's going to replace him.
would love to see Tyloo or Mark Jackson in that spot. I think
Tyloo would do well there with Katie and Kyrie. But honestly, I
didn't want to make any assumptions about what it was going to happen with the
Nets this year because without Katie, you're not really evaluating what they really have the
potential to be. So to me, this was a lost year anyway. This move kind of
surprised me from that perspective. But I guess moving into next year, you want
everything to be stable and in a good, positive place for
Katie to come back. So if the locker room is out on him, then it
then it was the right move to make. I guess here's the last
thing, though, is are you not, are you, by by allowing KD and to some extent, Kyrie to
make the decision as to who stays and who goes, now the next head coach is completely beholden
to Kevin Durant.
Well, yeah.
When was he not going to be beholden to Kevin Durant.
When the organization, I mean, you have Sean Marks coming from an organization in the spurs
that that's not how they roll, right?
Like, they were never really beholden the spurs.
And, and while I do understand how the spurs do things.
that is ingrained in the DNA of the organization.
So everyone buys into that.
And the players that they bring in are those kind of players,
the personnel they bring in or is that kind of personnel.
So you can have that mentality,
but everybody has to buy in from the top to bottom all the way
in order for that kind of system to work.
So there's a reason why they built it that way.
And it has.
It has worked, of course.
But you need everybody to be that style of person.
Finally, NFL teams will have a few more days.
to make some important personnel decisions.
The deadline for applying the franchise and transition tags
has been pushed back from Thursday to Monday.
So teams will have until 1159-59-Eastern on Monday morning
to keep any players off the open market.
The legal tampering window opens one second later at noon Eastern.
So this is happening because it's going to be after the deadline to vote on the CBA.
It was moved from Thursday to Saturday.
So with the new CBA, teams can either use franchise tag
or the transition tag without the new CBA.
Teams can use both the franchise tag and transition tag.
And then, of course,
free agency begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Eastern.
So a lot of inside baseball stuff.
But basically, there's a lot of moves that are being delayed right now
because they move this back.
I love that a radio and TV term, hard out, right?
They got a hard out at 1159.
1159.59.
One second later.
It all goes down.
That's Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.

And finding ways to win no matter what.

His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series

he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us

the best or nothing.
We will talk baseball hats and football teams with Charles Robinson in a second.
Let me start with Tom Brady, though.
Are we getting a sign from Brady?
$199 productions launches yesterday.
Just so happens the week before franchise tags, a couple weeks before free agency.
Just so happens.
Oh, yeah, by the way, I get this production company in L.A.
Any correlation between where he'll play next year and that announced me yesterday?
Well, we're all looking for the signs, right?
I think everyone's looking for the signs.
I just spent 10 days at the Combine and everyone's asking that question,
not just reporters, but every team wants to know.
Look, I think what's interesting to me is I had a chance to meet with somebody from the Chargers
when I was at the Combine.
And I think they are very interested in Oregon's Justin Herbert.
But I think to me, that's sort of a subset of, let's see what happens with Tom Brady.
Like there's no doubt in my mind between the Tennessee Titans,
the Los Angeles Chargers and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
those are going to be the three teams right now that I think are going to be in the mix if Brady decides to leave New England.
But it's not just $199, $199, obviously his draft slot when he was taken by the Patriots.
TB12, which is going to be his epic brand beyond retirement, the hopeful billion-dollar brand,
they have been working on expanding into the Southern California market since last summer.
So look, there are all kinds of business interests there in Los Angeles.
Everybody knows it.
But I keep hearing this is going to be a football decision.
And we've been looking for these signs forever.
And I remember one guy telling me, hey, I don't even know if Giselle is really all that into Los Angeles.
We'll see.
I think this is going to be about football.
Does he think he can go there and have a two-year sort of epic finish?
And that to him is going to be, I think, of more vital importance than anything else.
So what do you think?
You know, look, there are pieces there with the Chargers that the skill position pieces are very nice.
Running back, you know, wide receivers.
The line needs a lot of work.
And that was one of the things when I was talking to my guy with the Chargers is he's like,
you know, he's like, look, man, we got a lot of, we have a lot of work to do with our offensive line here.
And, you know, we've seen some of that already as, as, you know, the offseason has begun to progress.
but I think for Brady to go in and be sold on this, he has to know you're going to curve the entire offense to me, which is what has happened in New England.
This is decades of not New England building the offense necessarily around Tom Brady, but Tom Brady building it from the inside out.
That's Tom's offense in New England.
Can he replicate that quickly in Los Angeles?
That would be a big question.
Yeah, that's a hard one to comprehend the idea that he'd go.
Shane Steichen just started becoming a play caller mid-season with the Chargers.
and, hey, I'm going to teach you everything I know
the last 20 years in a couple of months.
Also, that means no skipping OTAs.
It seemed like it would be prohibitively difficult to do it in short order.
But it has been done.
Peyton did it when he went to Denver.
We'll see if Tom wants to do it if he goes to the charges.
Let's go to Dak Prescott.
I think Joy mentioned that the deadline has been extended
for all these tags to Monday night, 1159, 59,
hard out in the national football league to use the radio term hardout.
Does he get franchise tagged?
Like, where are we with, with DAC as some of the numbers are starting to become public?
Look, he's getting tagged.
He's not leaving the Dallas Cowboys.
They're tagging him no matter what.
And the thing is, they have an offer on the table right now.
They came back on March 2nd.
The guaranteed money in that contract is now at $105 million.
So from what I understand, the structure changed a little bit.
They up the guaranteed money a little bit.
Still south of what Jared Gough got with the Lusk,
Angeles Rams, Jared Gough landed at 110 million.
So, you know, as much as you like where the D.
Prescott contract is, and if you sit there and say, well, you know, this is $33.1 million
dollars in new money, technically, that's more than anyone's ever gotten in the NFL.
What Dack Prescott is sitting there saying, look, you're going to have the franchise tag me
anyway.
Right now, I am heading into literally the teeth of my leverage.
Why am I going to give that up now when we're going to sign a suit new, you know, there's a chance
we're signing a new CBA?
I still think he ends up under the franchise tag.
I still think the Dallas Cowboys feel like that's where this is headed.
And if the CBA obviously doesn't pass,
I think they're going to look at putting that transition tag on Amari Cooper.
You know, what's interesting here, Charles, is like,
Zeke wanted to use the Todd Gurley contract as the number to hit, right?
He wants to use the Jared Goff contract.
I know where you're going with this.
They're both bad contracts.
I know where you go.
Nobody's like, man, those are amazing deals for the team.
They're like Todd Gurley can't hardly walk, let alone be a starting, and Jared Goff's just okay.
We're going to match those contracts?
That sounds insane.
Hey, I want a dollar more than a guy who's overpaid.
And the fact that he's overpaid is actually hurting, putting people around him.
It's all about leverage.
I mean, Dak Prescott, one of the things that he looked at is Kirk Cousins, right?
Kirk Cousins shouldn't have gotten $28 million a year and three years guaranteed.
And yet he did.
And people are like, well, geez, that's.
an unbelievable contract. Well, why did he get that unbelievable contract? Why did he leave
$30 million a year and fully guaranteed from the jets on the table? Because he could, because
he created his own market and his own opportunity in Washington. Players noticed that.
And agents noticed that. And there's no doubt in my mind that, look, it's not like Dak
Prescott's people haven't told the Cowboys, hey, okay, if you want to scoot on the numbers a little
bit. If you want to set these numbers, shorten the deal. We have no problem with that. Let's
just go with fewer years. The Cowboys don't want that. They're like, no, we want long-term
control. If we're giving you this kind of money, we want the same kind of long-term control
that the Rams got over golf, that the Eagles ultimately have over Wentz. And, you know,
Prescott's people are simply saying, look, it's years or money. You want to lower the money.
You're going to give us shorter years. If you want the longer years, you're going to give us more
money. That's where his leverage is. And they're not just going to surrender that now for 33,
million dollars a year in new month.
Charles Robinson joined us Yahoo Sports, senior NFL reporter.
Cam Newton's coming off of an injury, another injury.
He's got essentially a new owner.
Marty Herney's still there, but new front office people, new head coach, new play caller.
Joe Brady comes in as the play caller from LSU, but before that he was in New Orleans.
That strikes me as a precision passing game, what we've seen at LSU and New Orleans.
do they even want him in Carolina?
Well, look, here's the thing that the Panthers are doing right now.
And I think this got overblown at the combine when Matt Rule came out.
So, look, I want to coach Cam Newton.
And some of these things were said.
People are like, oh, well, it's done.
Like Cam's going to be there.
Now, what do you say?
If you're sitting there and you're a team that's drafting seventh
and you're looking at all these teams ahead of you that need a quarterback,
you could potentially be the team that moves, that trades.
And there are a number of NFL teams that believe the Panthers will be
that aggressive trade-looking team to move up into the top six picks,
you don't suddenly go, hey, the starter that we have, this guy,
we're shopping him now, we don't want him anymore.
And oh, by the way, he can't pass a physical right now.
So people have to understand how other teams were viewing the statements out of Carolina
about Cam was, you know, call us when he can pass a physical.
Like once he can pass a physical, then he becomes a real trade commodity.
Other NFL teams believe that that's what the Carolina Panthers
are waiting for. Let him throw, let him start to work out in terms of like football activities,
passive physical, and then he's a guy who becomes available before the NFL draft that Camden
could still be a commodity. You know, the Oakland Raiders, I still think, are going to be a team
that will shop for another quarterback either to compete directly with Derek Carr or replace him
this offseason. So look, I don't think Cam by any means is just locked in there as a starting
quarterback. That's still a fluid situation. All right. This is the most, this is the reason we're having you on.
you tweeted out a picture of what looked like a draft hat for the Rams.
I'm going to say a day and a half two days ago,
and the world has lost their collective minds,
more so than what color the dresses,
or whether it's Yanni or Yanni or I can't remember the O'Loral.
Is this the Rams new logo?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Now, from what my understanding is,
it is new logos when they come out,
there are multiple versions of logos.
Okay, so like every team has a primary logo.
They have a secondary logo.
They have different iterations of the logos.
Now, as you said, this is indeed, from what I was told, this is a draft hat.
So that explains some of the color scheme.
So the color scheme could change.
The plan, at least now, you know, now they have not rolled this out yet, you know,
which is interesting.
But the plan as of, you know, what the rollout was going to be was that this was going
to be one of the versions of the new logo for the, for the Rams hat.
you know, they've got new uniforms coming that I understand are amazing that I'm, from what I've
heard, fans are going to be extremely happy with the uniforms. But again, this hat, what's
interesting to me is I see Kevin Demoff, who's the team president. He's obviously interacting
with individuals on Twitter. He's seeing what the, what the feedback has been. Seems pretty
negative right now, but, you know, look, the totality of the rollout for the Rams, at least in their
minds, I'm sure, is, hey, this is not just about a logo or has.
it's about the uniforms, it's about everything.
I would say people should sit tight.
I do find it interesting that they're obviously watching to see what unfolds in social media.
I'm sure they were not thrilled at what I did there.
But hey, listen, your job is to report and our job is to react.
Charles, great stuff.
Charles Robbins from Yahoo Sports.
Thanks so much for joining us also.

Thanks so much.
Yeah, thanks for having done.
Here's my thing, Joy.
I understand that Twitter hates everything, social media hates anything new, people trying stuff.
People always freak out about logo changes.
Yes.
I remember when the Marlins changed their logo, everyone lost their mind.
What about when the Broncos?
The Broncos went from their traditional John Elway Broncos to what looked like Arena League uniforms at the time.
And now those are the uniforms that are kind of synonymous with the Broncos.
I will only say this.
Like, look, I grew up in Southern California.
I grew up where from my roof, you could see the old.
You could see Anaheim Stadium.
The Rams have the best helmets in football, arguably.
Like them and the Bengals.
Yeah.
There's a reason, like, tradition does, in fact, work.
And trying to create the wave, kind of looks like the Chargers.
I do feel like it's trying a bit too hard.
Those should be your alternate, not your regular ones.

Tyrell Williams from the Las Vegas Raiders.
We'll join us.
Las Vegas Raiders.
That's just...
That's going to take a little time.
Going to take some time.
But, I mean, like, look, they were the L.A. Raiders.
It still feels like...
of the L.A. Raiders to me. Oakland Raiders, they've been two times over. And I know it's going to work.
Like, that is the part, like, of the, sometimes it's not just about the location. It is location,
location, location, but of the teams that could play in Vegas and call Vegas home, the Raiders are
perfect. Couldn't be a better brand for that. Yes. I agree. Yes. Not just that, but also, like,
look, there's a ton of, like, expatriate Los Angeles.
that have moved to Vegas over the last 20 to 30 years.
The Raiders were a Vegas team anyway.
Like if you were to, I would guess if you were to poll people in Vegas,
they would say they're two favorite teams.
Even prior to this were Lakers won and Raiders 2.
And the Lakers, for some obvious and some not so obvious,
obvious being that they've won a ton.
And two, it's the they play the preseason games there every year.
And it is, it's almost like the furthest suburb.
of LA, really. It just works. It's going to work. But the Vegas Raiders definitely is going to take
some time as Vegas has become a primetime city. Now, hockey and an NFL team, when will an NBA team follow?
Got some two of news for you. B.G. Armstrong is going to join us this hour. I have an absolutely
outstanding show as I sit in in Colin Cowherstead. You know, Kenny Atkinson lost his job over the
weekend. It was kind of weird.
Like their number seven spot in the east, which, granted, they're below 500.
And I think it's reasonable to think they've been at least marginally disappointing this
year. I don't know what you thought their ceiling would be without Kevin Durant all season
and integrating, integrating Kyrie Irving to the team.
It would, there would be some high highs and some low lows and Kyrie's been heard a good portion
of the season and he's out for the rest of the year.
But as the report's surface, it appears that Kevin Durant is as or most responsible for going
to management, going to ownership, or simply going to his teammates and saying, this guy,
not the guy, not good enough, not instilling a culture of winning.
and of course he coming from the Golden State Warriors.
Tell us more, Kevin.
I know what a winning NBA head coach looks like.
That ain't one.
Take my word for it.
There is a lot of irony in Kevin Durant being kind of an ultimate decision maker, right?
One, you would have thought if there was a coach killer in that room, it was Kyrie Irving, not Kevin Durant.
Two, didn't Kevin Durant kind of push back at Steve?
Kerr and his coaching and has even said as much that he wasn't as down with Steve Kerr as
others were. And three, here he is commenting about a coach who he's never actually played a game
for. I can tell you this guy's not good enough. Have you actually, I haven't played one game,
but one game with him. You don't know anything about playing for Kenny Agon. Well, I've watched.
I've sat here and watched. This is the peanut gallery, getting the voting rights to the life or death
of the guy who's in the center of the ring
or on center stage.
You know, you always knew Kyrie would be a difficult one to win over.
Kyrie has a reputation.
But you almost feel like, you know,
Kenny Atkinson on the way out the door can look at Kevin Oren and say,
Et tu Brute, you as well?
Really?
Look, I don't know if Kenny Atkinson is good enough to be the head coach of the Nets.
And I do, you can take the word for it from,
players. You can't fool players. If you can't win over locker room, like here's the hard part in the
NBA. In order to win over locker room, you have to win an NBA championship. In order to win a
championship, you have to have one over locker. Right? It's the catch 22. But there is
something to guys knowing this guy's got it. This guy doesn't. That's really kind of what Skip
Bayliss has touched out, which has started this conversation about the Niners and Jimmy Garapolo.
No one's saying Garoppolo stinks. But man, when you miss Emmanuel Sanders, by
like seven yards.
And that throw to Omanial Sanders, if it's short, it's past interference.
So you should either be short or at least hit them on the fingertips long.
That's one of those.
John Lynch has to be sitting up there in the box going, he doesn't have it.
When the 49ers decide or look like they were going to decide to take a knee,
essentially take a knee before halftime,
much like the Jaguars did with Blake Bortles in the AFC championship game two years before.
it's Kyle Shanahan saying he doesn't have it.
Guys that have it, of course you're going to let them throw.
You're not worried about Pat Mahomes.
You're thinking about scoring.
Guys that have it, you just know they have it.
There's that the Geneseequa, the I don't know what, the what does Colin call it,
the it factor, right?
You either have it or you don't.
So I do understand and respect like Kevin Rantz, like, look, what are we doing?
We're going to finish out the season with a guy we don't really believe in.
But the irony to a coach who pushed back on Billy Donovan because he wasn't Scott Brooks.
He pushed back on Steve Kerr, even though he won two championships there.
And he's pushing back on a coach who he hasn't actually played a game for strikes me as at least mildly ironic.
Then combine it with the fact that we all assume is Kyrie Irving, right?
Oh, Coach Killer, Kyrie Irving.
had to be.
Doesn't feel like a fun guy to coach.
You combine that and it's at least interesting, Joy, the news we're hearing out of Brooklyn.
Again, I didn't have any expectations for this team this year.
It's like you said, what did you think that their ceiling was?
They don't have Kevin Durant.
So this is just kind of a year, right?
Like their goal this year was to be stable, not be a disaster, obviously, but be stable
and have the franchise in a good position going.
going into next year to get Kevin Durant back.
Who is out of sight, out of mind.
But the, I mean,
1A to LeBron James,
Kauai Leonard, best player in the league.
Yes.
We forget who Kevin Durant is.
No, no, we don't.
We wonder what he's going to be like when he comes back.
But no, no.
And look, to Kevin Durant and even Carrie Irving's defense,
almost every NBA star has done this, right?
Like LeBron has done this.
He tried to do it to Spolstra.
He did it to David Blatt.
But LeBron's not alone.
Magic Johnson.
Paul Westhead was their first coach.
He was not down there.
It happened with Larry Bird.
You know?
Your star players have to buy into what you're doing.
Correct.
And feel comfortable with the direction that they're going.
And if it feels dysfunctional, then people are not going to be comfortable.
You're having to have team meetings to discuss what the plan is.
That's not a good sign.
But there's also the other side to it, which is if Kevin Durant is,
has an issue with Kenny Atkinson
because he's not starting DeAndre Jordan
because DeAndre Jordan's his guy.
Then you're like, really?
That's, you know, the coaches
you would hope is going to do things
which he believes are in the best interest of the team.
And the other thought is, like, look,
there's a chance that he's starting a younger player
because he believes that by next year when they are competitive,
you need the younger players to be further along
than DeAndre Jordan, who is at the end of a career,
not at the start of a career.
Well, I don't know what's going on.
on in their locker room. But I would say
from the outside looking game, when it gets to
this point and there's this much
tension, there's probably
not a lot of great communication
going on. Sure. Anytime these
situations come to a head, when you
step, everyone steps away and
the stories start coming out, it usually
comes down to there wasn't really
strong communication between the coach and the players
of the front office of one of those trifectas
something was broken. Because if that
was the case, then that conversation
should have happened with Kevin Durant. And
And if Kevin Durant really felt that strongly about it, then he would tell Atkinson, like, okay, but I don't agree with that.
And moving into next year, what's the plan if he doesn't develop?
Or just conversations generally solve most of these problems.
No question.
When you stop talking, usually relationships stop.
I agree with you.
And I'm not saying that's what happened or didn't happen.
I don't know.
But it's a reasonable assumption based upon.
But I'm assuming that's what happened.
Living on this earth for as long as you've lived on this earth, right?
All relationships are, in fact, in fact the same.
I will put a period on this, though.
I think we both agree.
KD does strike me as a guy who seems to just not be all that happy.
He's a really hard guy to please.
By his own estimation, like he's still kind of searching for something.
And do we care that, like, as much as, well, NBA stars have to buy in, like, who is he going to buy into?
He doesn't seem to buy into anybody.
Like, how many games they had to win in Golden State before he buys in to Steve Kerr?
How many games did Billy Donovan have to win before he buys him?
Like, he just, he kind of is unhappy unless he's happy unless he, he's not happy unless he's
unhappy.
And then he's unhappy, but happy that he's unhappy.
I mean, we know Katie has a unique personality and so does Kyrie, but they want to play
together and they want to win a championship.
And they both won championships.
Yes.
So, like, I'm going to, I'm going to lean towards the star players and the star players that
also both happen to have won championships.
Like, their opinion matters to me.
It's a fair way to look at it.
Coming up next, how do the Raiders players feel about the Tom Brady rumors
or about Derek Carr kind of seemingly hanging out there, hanging out on a limb?
Find out as well as Tyrault Williams.
He'll join us next.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it.
And we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth.
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.

What's up guys? This is Clivert Taylor the 4th.
And on my podcast, The Cliverts Show,
I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff,
like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This line.
Hey, you know these kids.
This linebacker walks up to me, he goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Ms. Parker.

What's up, fam, this Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano, and our podcast Point Game is about Define
odds. Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game. His IQ is at a level that we've never seen
before. And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves, I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series because when they don't have Rudy in the
lineup, he has to really guard guys like Nas Reed. He has to guard Julius Randall. And then he has to
us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson,
we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nash would get that thing.
That man, hell get the flying.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, IZE,
you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.
So listen to Point Game on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Doug Gottlieb in for Colin Cowherd.
The pride of Turner Oregon's going to join us in a second.
That's Tyrell Williams, along with Joy Taylor.
I'm Doug Gottlie.
Welcome, and this is, in fact, the herd.
He's Tyrell Williams, of course, five years in the NFL,
four with my chargers before it became a turncoat
and decided to play for the then-Oklin, now Las Vegas Raiders,
from undrafted rookie to a guy who signs a big deal last off-season.
Tyrell, how are you?
I'm doing good, man.
I looked it up, right?
You went to high school in Turner, Oregon, right?
How many, like, what is,
paint that picture for what your high school days were like.
In high school days, shoot,
I don't even think we have a stoplight in Turner,
but a tiny little town, you know,
really close.
Everybody knows everybody, so it's real small.
And then you go to Western Oregon,
and you make the Chargers as an undrafted,
undrafted rookie free agent.
Yeah.
Your first day, like, when you get to first day of training camp,
and you got Phillip Rivers out there,
and you're wearing the lightning bolts,
It's like what was that like in terms of jump up and level of competition from what you were used to?
It was crazy.
The speed, the size, everything was a lot different.
You know, going out there and seeing, you know, Phil, like you said, and seeing Antonio Gates, guys that are Hall of Famers.
I mean, it was awesome to be around those type of guys and just see how they work.
You know, and they had like Malcolm Floyd.
He helped me out a lot when I first got there.
And so, I mean, those guys really just helped me kind of understand what it was like to be in the NFL and move on.
What is that feeling like of, because I'll just share your full disclosure,
I never made it to the NBA, never made it to an NBA training camp,
but I would be in a free agent camp three times over with the Lakers
and a couple other ones with one with Minnesota.
And I always imagine what it would be like,
because you'd walk in and Mitch Cupcheck would be like,
hey man, thanks, you're doing great, you're getting better,
maybe next year, and you shake his hand.
They were really classy and what can we do travel-wise for you?
I always wondered what it was like to walk down that same hallway,
walk in, the GM's like, hey, we're keeping you, here's a contract.
What was that like?
Definitely exciting.
Crazy.
You know, I got a, I was just kind of, didn't really know what to do that day.
Kind of just walked around the locker room.
And I finally just went back to the hotel and just kind of just waited.
Finally got the call.
And it felt surreal.
Who called you?
Was your agent?
My receiver coach.
Who is that then?
Fred Graves.
Fred Graves called me.
Told me I was going to make the 53.
Wait, wait, see, when the phone rings, though, you're like, uh-oh.
Did you?
Nervous.
Super nervous.
Yes.
Don't know what's going to happen.
And then he just says, he kind of was super coy about it.
And then just said, I were going to put you on the 53.
like it was no big deal.
But for me, I was kind of like going crazy on the inside.
So, I mean, it was awesome.
Best feeling.
Yeah, best feeling.
And then obviously signing last year as a free agent with a huge deal is an even better
feeling like life changing, life changing money.
What is it like to play with Phillip Rivers?
Oh, it's awesome.
You know, what you see, that competitiveness.
You know, he brings that every day on the practice field, training camp games.
You know, he kind of lifts everybody around him and you just kind of have that drive
that he has.
And I had a lot of fun playing with him.
What is, what about him is different?
that you played with Derek, like what about him is different?
Compare and contrast to two guys that you've played with.
They're kind of similar in the way that they kind of just carry themselves, you know,
off the field and on the field.
You know, I think Phil's just kind of got a little bit more of that.
I think you see it, you know, the way he talks, talks trash to a lot of guys,
and he's just kind of different in that way.
But they're really similar, you know, and their faith and everything, how they walk off
the field.
So it was pretty easy transition for me to go and be with Derek.
Tyrell Williams, Minnesota, Las Vegas Raiders joining us here in the herd,
Doug Gottliebilling in for Colin Cowherd.
Okay, so you signed with the Raiders last year as a free agent.
Chargers just couldn't afford to keep you, right?
You got too good for them and you blow up.
When you sign with the Raiders, what were your expectations coming into the year?
You know, I wasn't really sure.
You know, it was the first time I had been going to a new team.
And my expectation, you know, I wanted to come out there and, you know,
and take over, you know, do what I had been doing with the Chargers
and really elevate from there.
And so I was really my expectation to go out there and just, you know,
give everything I had and really understand what my job.
my role is going to be. It's it's an odd year because one you had you had hard knocks there and then
two there is the Antonio Brown he's there he's not there he burns his feet and all that all that stuff
what was that like to be a part of like this is your first training camp with a new team then you guys
are all miced up there's cameras around and there's all the AB stuff going on yeah I mean I think it was
distracting for a little bit you know I think as we kind of moved on through training camp it kind of
became, you know, more normal.
You know, it was kind of, I think a lot of, we had a lot of young guys, a lot of new guys.
So just going through, it wasn't, it wasn't too distracting once we kind of just figured out
what it was going to be.
And we just were able to move on.
I think Gruden did a good job of just kind of keeping us our head down and just keep moving
and know that if we did get AB back, you know, we're going to be better.
You know, if we didn't, then we were going to be able to, you know, move on with how we
were through training camp.
Knock out wood if you're with Tyrell Williams, joining us here in, in, in, you know,
in the herd. Okay, so then, but, but it, it, oftentimes there's things that can be distracting,
but this one actually affected you, right? Because, wait, am I going to be the Z? Or is he going to be
the Z? How hard was that to get ready for a season where, like, it was, he's supposed to be the one,
you're supposed to be the two. There's a, there's a, the, the plays are different, the routes are
different. Everything is different. How, how, how was that for you prepping for the season?
No, honestly, it wasn't bad because my second year in the league, Keenan ended up getting hurt,
and I got kind of elevated to that number one spot.
So I was used to really learn in every position and being able to understand coverages and where I needed to be.
So I had been in that situation before, and so I kind of always, every season came in prepping, you know,
in case someone goes down, whatever it is, I want to be able to play every position and know what to do.
So it was pretty seamless for me to build it just come in and know where to play if I was playing XZ
and know what to do and just try to elevate my role in that way.
Okay, so Gruden's a guy who, like, look, he'd been doing a long time when he was in Oakland, when he was in Tampa, but then he was in the TV booth.
Like, you come, he hadn't played for the guy, he played against the guy.
Was there a moment where you felt there, he felt like there was an amount of buy-in where, you know what, this guy does know what the hell he's talking about?
For sure.
I think it was through OTAs.
You know, you kind of just see, I always saw what he was on TV and everything and never knew what kind of guy he was going to be.
But he really, you know, when I talked to him through free agency and everything, he really, he really.
really never changed. He was always kind of the same guy. Good motivator, like being around him,
funny guy, but then he also just knows exactly what he wants to get done on the field. So,
I mean, I love playing for him. All right, you led the Raiders in receiving touchdown, second on
the team receiving yards, only 651 yards, and Bleacher Report tagged you as the most
overpaid wide receiver and underperforming your first year with the Raiders. Now, some dudes
that just come back at Bleach Report on Twitter. You have the, you have the floor, okay? How
How do you feel about bleach report labeling you as such?
I kind of feel like I've always been underrated.
You know, and I don't think I played how I wanted to play last year.
Definitely.
You know, I feel like I could have done a lot better.
And I was dealing with some injury stuff, but I know I was out on the field,
so I got to play better.
And I know I'm excited for this upcoming seasons, you know, prove people like that wrong.
You had plantar fasciatus, right?
Yeah.
Okay, now did it tear?
Because I was under the impression that the only way that thing actually gets fixed
is if it fully tears through, like it's a really, what actually happens for you personally
with your foot?
Mine never tore, and I had it in both of my feet, and neither one tour, so I was just kind of
hoping that that would eventually happen so I could get some relief, but it never really,
it kind of just stayed the same all year, and that was a frustrating thing.
So how do you rehab?
Like, what do you do to fix that?
There's really not much.
Honestly, you know, you can stretch.
You can do some exercise and stuff, but, I mean, when you're going out there and you
still got to run every day, it kind of just takes away from the little work that you did,
do for it. What's the sense you have on who your quarterback's going to be next season?
You know, shoot, I think that's above my pay grade. You know, I think that grew into Mayock,
you know, I think they'll make the right decision for the team. You know, I love Derek, you know,
and I hope that we'll work things out and that moving forward. But just, you know, above my pay grade,
see what they go and do. I know, it has to be awkward, though, right? You're like, hey, I love Derek,
but I mean, if Tom Brady throws you football, that doesn't sound like it would stink either.
Yeah, obviously Tom's one of the greatest ever, so, you know, see what happens.
Is there a text chain of Raiders where you guys are, well, he opened a production company in LA where you guys know, you guys are wondering about this thing?
No, definitely not.
That hasn't been a group chat or anything like that.
Okay, the biggest difference in playing for the Raiders and playing for the Chargers is what?
Fans.
Fans.
You actually have home games?
Actually have home games.
Actually have home games.
There's fans everywhere.
They're into the game.
You know, the stadium's full.
You know, that was something that, you know, I had coming from Western Oregon, you know, I never had.
played in a big stadium with home fans there either. So it was kind of the same with the
Chargers and then coming to Oakland that week one against Denver on Monday night was
unbelievable. And then it kind of stayed the same throughout the rest of the year and it was
awesome. Yeah, I'm going to be, I'm fascinated by this. Your last game in Oakland,
and they actually done this before where there had been a last game in Oakland. But was there
a connection? I always wondered like, you're not a football mercenary. You haven't played on 15
different teams, but you had played on the rival team the first four years. Now you're a Raider.
You played eight home games or actually seven home games, right? And then you have to act like
you guys are really sad at leaving Oakland. Like what was that experience like the last game in
Oakland? It was awesome. Honestly, I mean, the energy there was crazy. And I just love, when I played
for the Chargers, my favorite place to go and play was against Oakland just because the Bay Area music
that they play in the stadium.
The fans are crazy.
And so being on the right side of that was awesome, you know,
and to fill the energy for that last game, it was cool.
But at least you didn't start dropping Hela in the middle of sentences,
like people in Northern California do, right?
You can't do the Hela thing.
No.
Just randomly dropping Hela in there.
You're like, man, man, I made it out of Oakland without completely changing my way of
sentence structure.
Last thing, are you open to the idea of avocado ice cream?
Would you, if Brady says like, hey, you can be my guy,
but you got to try this avocado ice cream?
A new team diet.
I'll try it for sure.
But I'm not going to eat it regularly, I don't think.
It might be good, but I'm not trying it.
Or I will try it, but I, you know.
That's a semi-semi-of-mite.
Tyrell, thanks so much for joining us.
Appreciate it.
Tyrell Williams, of your Las Vegas Raiders, let's get to Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Do you say hello, does?
No, I'm from Southern California.
But everybody from Northern California, when I grew up, like,
that was a hella thing.
I don't say hella a lot, but I do say it sometimes, and I've spent no time in Northern California at all.
It's okay.
I mean, is there something in the Miami or Pittsburgh dialect that you still have in?
Oh, you don't want me to do Pittsburgh dialect.
It's crazy.
Perogies?
Perogies?
Yes.
We say gum bands instead of rubber bands.
Gumbing.
We call shopping carts buggies.
Ah.
Okay.
What are they in New England?
Instead of slippery, we say slippy.
Slippy.
Instead of y'all, we say yins.
Yen's guys going down the side side, get some irons and that.
No, that's not, well.
I love this.
I can do it.
Why is this not a segment?
I have no Pittsburgh.
Jerry Taylor speaks Pittsburgh again.
Pittsburgh East.
Next on the herd.
Speaking of Derek Carr, the future of the quarterback position has dominated the Bears
offseason so far and the team says they're completely committed to Chubisky,
but they're also looking forward to bringing in a veteran to challenge him.
And James Jones thinks Derek Carr would be the perfect target for Chicago.
The Chicago Bears, listen, you have a big time defense.
I played with Derek Carr.
All right, I wasn't the fastest wide receiver and had the most catches in my career
because he's a special quarterback at throwing his receivers open.
You get with an offensive mind and Matt Nagy, you have a good running game,
you have some receivers out there, and then you have a big time defense.
So listen, you don't got to win it just on your right arm,
but Derek Carr is one of those quarterbacks too.
If you need him to win a game, he can win a game for you.
And he's shown that over and over in here.
his career, but Derek Carr with the Chicago Bears, that would take the Chicago Bear Super Bowl
contenders.
You think Derek Carr makes the Bears Super Bowl contenders?
I don't know, but it's like John Gruden calling up going, hey, I got this quarterback
guy for you.
I actually, I like Derek Carr and I don't think I disagree with James Jones entirely.
I think that the bears are in, especially the way that their defense is set up, that they
are just a few pieces away from being.
in that conversation.
But the quarterback position is obviously number one.
And I don't, I mean, I'm, I've seen enough of Trubisky to feel like I don't think he is the guy.
I know that they, they're staying with him.
But again, if you have more than one quarterback, you have no quarterback.
The idea of them bringing in a veteran to challenge him means that you don't really believe he's the guy.
If you have the guy, you don't need to bring in someone to challenge the guy.
Right.
This is what happened.
It's the idea of what happened in Tennessee last year, right?
We didn't think Marriota was the guy.
You make a change midseason.
and look at how that team kind of took off.
Yeah, well, quite frankly, Ryan Tannehill wasn't the guy either.
I mean, they had a nice season, but.
No, but Tanyhill was close to being the guy in Miami before he had the knee injury, right?
And then he had the arm injury the previous year.
Tanda Hill had a great season.
He definitely got them to where they went this year, and there's nothing to be ashamed about the way that that season ended.
Right.
But do I think that Ryan Tannehill can win the Titans a Super Bowl?
I don't think so.
But, I mean, isn't John Gruden saying the same?
If John Gruden parts ways with Derek Carr, he's saying the same thing.
Like, John Gruden's saying, I have a guy, and he's not good enough.
Like, I'll say this.
Like, I got crushed, crushed on social media because I sat in this very same seat
two years ago before the same start the season, and I said two were starting quarterbacks
in the NFL, Chibisky and Foles.
Of course, Trubisky led the Bears to the playoffs that year.
Should be pointed out there, and Rogers were hurt that year.
And whatever, and their defense won them games.
and Nick Foles, though he won a Super Bowl, the previous year,
was benched this year in spite of the fact he owed $80 million in guaranteeing deals.
My point is that what people in the league have told me about Trubisky is he just,
he knows how to initially read where he's supposed to go,
but his in-play reads are off.
And now he's lacking confidence.
The team lacks confidence in him.
And as you're pointing out, you're bringing in a veteran quarterback to challenge him.
You're telling us, you know he's not the guy.
you almost feel like the bears be better off to move on.
That's kind of what you're saying.
I do think they would be better off.
Okay, my one defense of Tribisky would be this.
Don't they need to get better?
Like, if they're supposed to be like the chiefs in terms of their offense,
they need better weaponry.
If your quarterback is not as good as Pat Mahomes,
you need better skill position players,
and they don't have great skill position players.
No, but there's also only so many of those great skill position players to go around.
Fair enough.
So Baker Mayfield is still working on becoming a legitimate,
franchise quarterback in the NFL, but he has cemented his place in Oklahoma history.
Lincoln Riley announced that Oklahoma will unveil a statue of Baker before the start of their
spring game on April 18th. They're going to do it inside the stadium in front of the fans.
They have statues of all of their other Heisman winners outside of the stadium in Heisman Park,
and they're also planning to add one for Kyler Murray in the future.
Yep. All Heisman trophy winners get one. You know, so this is a big recruiting flex also.
Yes, yes.
But Jason White has one.
Like you kind of go back through.
All their Heisman trophy winners have a statue.
Have a statue.
It does seem, and I know that this is about the length of time, like it's a couple years removed.
And then it does like to still be playing in the NFL and be in your 20s and have a statue feels weird.
It does, but then it doesn't.
Like a lot of quarterbacks who don't, I mean, listen, we don't know what Baker-Mayfield's going to be in the NFL right yet.
But have had amazing college careers.
Baker had an amazing college career.
So this isn't that weird when you think about it.
No, no, no, no.
We can start judging these guys on the highest level as soon as they leave college.
Like, it's what they did in college did in college should not be ignored.
Well, this is, and look, we do this with the NFL.
We do it with the NBA as well.
Like, we can't even appreciate college basketball.
What kind of pro is he?
I understand, like, that's an interesting discussion.
Yeah, like you can appreciate what they did in college as well.
You know, I watch Peyton Pritchard, who won a Pac-12 title for Oregon.
He's the Pac-12 player of the year.
Like, what type of pro is he?
Like, okay, I think he can make the NBA, but who cares?
He's had an amazing, amazing college career.
Like, let's just take a breath and recognize it.
And that's what the statue is.
You can appreciate them separately.
Of course, there's obviously going to be the inevitable Twitter jokes of which.
Right, the statue is he grabbing his junk in the statue?
Yes.
Planting the flag in the stat.
I think planting the flag.
That would be a pretty cool statue, right?
It was kind of awesome.
I agree.
I don't think they're going to do that.
Finally, LeBron earned Western Conference Player of the Week honors.
after leading his team to two big wins over the Bucks and Clippers.
His recent performances are also heating up the MVP race.
We talked a lot about yesterday.
According to Fox Bet, Yannis is still the favorite at minus 400,
but LeBron is closing the gap at plus 225.
Last week, Yonis was at minus 1,000,
and the brahams was at plus 800.
So he is getting a little bit closer.
I do think LeBron ends up,
I think the groundswell has kind of, as Chris Bustard yesterday said,
turned into an avalanche.
I think it was for start.
I think he ends up winning MVP.
I do too.
Especially because of the Janus injury.
We don't know how long it's going to be out.
On the other hand, you know, they've now lost a couple games.
If they go on a losing streak and then he comes back and they win every game when he comes back,
maybe that's your most valuable.
I don't know.
I don't think we should give LeBron bonus points for being 35,
but he's going to get bonus points for being 35.
I don't know.
I don't know because the conversation all year has just been so.
on Janus, I think everyone's considering everything that LeBron is actually doing this year
and the change that he's brought to the Lakers from last season, the success that he's having,
the way that he's playing.
This weekend was certainly huge.
Oh, listen.
I don't even think about the fact that he's 35.
He's just playing incredible.
Right, but we shouldn't, we probably shouldn't take into account how bad they were last year, right?
It probably shouldn't take into account that he's 35, but it's impossible for the human mind not to go like,
He is 35.
Well, the other thing is, like I said, we don't know what the criteria for MVP is.
It changes every single year.
Right.
So we don't know every year it's whatever narrative has been spun like this year.
It's analytics.
And then, you know, last year was whatever was last year.
Like, it changes all the time.
So it's really whatever the best story is is what it comes down to.
And I mean, that's not just crediting what LeBron's doing.
He deserves to win MVP this year.
But he also is the best story.
That's Joey Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herd Lye News.

Like LeBron heading into the playoffs without Luca and Austin Reed.
And finding ways to win no matter what.
He's the smartest player to ever play the game.
His IQ is at a level that we've never seen before.
And he knows without Luca and Austin Reeves,
I got to manipulate the game.
We get a player's perspective on the challenges of the playoffs.
I think Joker's going to be exhausted this series
because when they don't have Rudy in the lineup,
he has to really guard guys like Nas Reid.
He has to guard Julius Randall.
And then he has to give us everything he gives us on the night-to-night basis on offense.
And when IT's friends stop by, like Quentin Richardson, we dive into some playoff history too.
Steve Nass would get that thing.
That man, hell get to fly.
He running up the court, licking his fingers why he got the ball.
Like, after you go through a training camp with that, Isaiah, you figure it out real quick.
Get your ass up and down the court, and you're going to get the ball.

Doug Gottlieb in for Colin.
This is the herd along with Joy Taylor.
We welcome in BJ Armstrong, who, of course, three-time NBA champion with the Bulls.
He played alongside the greatest player of all time.
Yes, I said the greatest player of all time.
I was a bold fan.
Yeah, yeah, make a statement's already.
of course, an NBA agent as well.
BJ, let me, I want to start with what's happened in Brooklyn.
Because I don't remember if, and I know you weren't on the team then,
if Phil got Doug Collins fired or if it was just a hit the ceiling, right,
in terms of losing in the Eastern Conference finals.
But we have seen other players, most other star players,
pull this power play before, if in fact that KD and Kyrie were,
the two dissenting opinions as if you can win a championship with Kenny
Atkinson, you've been in all parts of this league.
How normal is what's happened in Brooklyn?
Well, we've seen this time and time again.
It's a lot of reporting stars getting players fired.
And most of the time, when a coach does get fired or general manager,
it always falls on the plate of the star player.
And in this case, we're talking about Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant.
So this isn't anything unusual about the NBA.
what is unusual about what has transpired there in Brooklyn is the timing of it, right?
There's 20 games left.
They're in the playoff race.
And those two players in particular aren't even playing at this time.
So I think what we are looking at, what kind of is a head scratcher, if you will,
is that both of those players aren't even playing, aren't even participating in it.
And the timing just seems a little off to me as a guy who's been around this league for quite some time.
You also know how basketball families work.
You got Sean Marks, who's a Spurs guy, right?
Yes.
And now Jock Vaughn's running the team, who's been a head coach, been a point guard in this league,
also from that Spurs family as well.
How hard is it to see Marks wanting to reach outside of his basketball family to find the next head coach?
Well, it's going to be tough because, you know, by all accounts, as you look at the team,
everything seems to be going well from the outside looking in, right?
They are in the seventh seed, I believe or so.
right now. He's doing this without arguably his two best players. They're finding a ways to
compete. They're playing meaningful games right now. I mean, the one kid just scored 51 points,
Lavert. Yeah, Carras Levert. So it just seems a little odd. I'm not sure what's going on here.
I think we're going to need more time to kind of figure this out. But the timing seems very odd to me
as a person who, like I said, been around. So I'm not particular like saying what's going on or who's
the blame here, but just the timing of it just seems very pretty, it seems very odd.
What's your reaction to LeBron's play and the Lakers two wins over the weekend?
Well, LeBron, I think, definitely made a statement in this sense is that this is the first time
four or five years ago where you can say multiple teams really feel they have a legit chance
to win a championship.
Over the last five years, we've kind of all kind of said behind closed doors, the warriors
are going to win it.
now for the first time the Clippers feel they have a legit chance.
The Lakers now have made their statement.
They put their name in the hat.
And of course, the Bucks we're talking about.
And even the Celtics, you know, there are a few teams out there that feel they have a legitimate chance to win.
So I think LeBron has made that statement.
I think the Lakers have made that statement that were for real.
We have to be taken seriously.
And in any given moment, they can win this game, win the game or win the champions.
You obviously play alongside Michael Jordan.
What I said yesterday was, and I don't remember LeBron being.
like this for a good portion of his career, but the
idea of I want to guard Kauai. I want to
guard Janice.
And the leadership
he's shown, even when, like,
look, he's still a great player. His skills are not what they
used to be in terms of his athletic. He's just
he's not the absolute freak of
nature vertically,
maybe laterally like he used to. He makes up
for it now with strength and with his brain.
Sure. But that did feel a little
MJ-like in the ability
to dominate a game
mentally, emotionally,
And the willingness to guard the other team's best player is that you live the MJ life.
Is that in any way of a parallel?
Well, I think what you saw with the Lakers, the Lakers made terrific adjustments during the course of the first two games to this third game that they played,
which they were eventually able to win.
LeBron is able now to pick and choose his spots, what he's going to do offensively.
I think offensively he made a great adjustment.
He was going to attack the basket.
He was going to use his power and his strength.
And I think defensively, he understands that he's going to.
have to figure out how to guard Kauai.
He's going to have to figure out how to guard, you know, go to the fore position and do
things.
So it was a great game.
I think LeBron is continuing to find a way he's continuing to evolve.
And I think the great thing about LeBron is he's still very effective, even though he may
not be the physical athlete that he once was 16, 17 years ago, but he's figured out a way
to really adjust his game and still be just as efficient or just as productive as he
was, you know, as a young player.
B.J. Armstrong, joining us in the herd.
If you had to put your money on one team to win the NBA championship, fully healthy, as of now,
fully healthy.
Oh, that's a big question.
The Lakers really, I have to take the Lakers very serious now.
I like what they did because they have a big team and they were able to play small.
They really won that last game with Anthony Davis going over to the five, right?
But also playing without a point guard too.
Playing without a point guard.
There's two parts that they played small, but they did.
not use Caruso and did not use Rondo down the stretch.
Right. What I mentioned, I really want to see Dion Waiters, what has got effect
is going to be on the game because you have to have another player who can play and create
his own shot.
So I really want to see what he's going to do.
But right now, on paper, if I just looked at the team, I'm going to say the Clippers,
but I'm not going to count the Lakers out.
The Lakers now made adjustments.
When I see a team that can make adjustments and win on the fly, they've caught my attention.
What LeBron has shown me is that, you know what, it's a series.
It's a seven-game series.
And as you know, Doug, you've been around.
Anything can happen.
And with a LeBron James-led team, you must take him.
And you must be very serious with a player like him.
If you had an MVP vote, who would it be for?
Right now in the regular season, I'm going to stay Janus.
But again, you can see LeBron is right there.
He's coming back.
He's made this statement.
He's playing the game at a very high level.
But right now, if you're saying the regular season, what Janus has done,
you know, he has been spectacular, nothing short of spectacular.
for the regular season.
Okay, I got to read you real quick this quote because
Anthony, excuse me,
Draymond Green went back at Charles Barkley
and said you don't get a seat at this table
because you haven't won championships.
So on the Dan Patrick show earlier today, Charles Barkley said
he, he being Draymond, is the least famous person
in the boy band. He thinks he's a star, he's not.
He's lucky to be in the boy band.
He thinks all the girls are screaming at him, no.
They're screaming for Justin Timberlake.
That's an all.
That's an all-timer.
What do you think of Dremont and his pushback to Barclay,
because Barclay hasn't won a title?
You know, more and more that I come on shows like this,
we're talking about more and more things that aren't happening on the court.
You know, that's part of the business now.
I think it's funny.
I think both of them, I know both of them, both of them are friends.
And the funny thing about both of them,
They're the same person, right?
They have very monstrous personalities.
They're very quotable.
And it makes for a good chuckle.
But in the end, I think both of them are going to say things.
And I get it.
I get what Draymond's doing.
I get what Charles is doing.
But let's just keep it to the court, you know?
Let's keep it on the court.
Okay.
But I do think that the calling out Charles is he hadn't won a title, right?
Right.
Like Charles Barkley was, we're watching Zion.
I've never seen Zion before.
Like, I don't know, Barclay was kind of pretty close.
He was 6-4-65 power forward who physically dominated the league.
Well, look, I played against Charles in his prime, right?
Charles Barkley was not a good player.
Charles Berkeley was a magnificent player.
He was way ahead of his time, what he was able to do.
He was a 6-4-6-5 player that was, he could dominate all phases of the game.
So I get it.
It's a lot of trash talking and makes for good humor.
It does.
I don't know.
Whatever you're eating, whenever you're drinking, I want that.
Like, literally looks the exact same as when he played for the Bulls.
I wish I felt that way.
He's B.J. Armstrong.
Coming up next, thanks, BJ.
Coming up next.
There's only one question that matters in the DAC Prescott contractors.
Only one.
We'll ask that question next.

You see him on all of our shows.
And we ask him what's truly pertinent to a guy who grew up sort of in the area, right?
Barstow.
That's not really like you're the only guy who grew up further from L.A.
that claims L.A. more so than Paul George.
Like he's Palmdale, you're Barstow.
Barstow is halfway in between here in Vegas.
Lakers or Clippers.
Who's your favorite now?
Now?
Yeah.
Not now.
It's always the Lakers.
Always.
I mean, this entire year you thought the Lakers were better?
Oh, not.
I mean, my whole life, I'm a,
Baker fan.
Listen, I understand your whole life.
Okay, now we're talking this year.
The Clippers have an overall better
team when you go player for player,
but they have too many good players.
I don't care what you say.
I don't care who you say Doc Rivers is.
When guys are used to playing
and they get put on the bench,
they don't take too kindly to that.
I want to see how he can navigate through that.
That's tough to do.
Correct, correct.
Everybody says, listen, I'm in it.
I want to win a championship.
and like, okay, will you be in on winning a championship
if all you get to do is wave a towel?
No, no, especially when you're used to playing.
Yes.
When you're just playing 18 to 20 minutes
and in the playoffs, the rotation is eight or nine men,
and you're one of the two that are out of that rotation.
You're not, I don't, everybody wants to win a championship,
but you want to be a part of winning that championship.
You don't want to watch that championship take place.
All right, you're also lifelong Laker fan,
which means you're a Kobe guy.
Is LeBrona Laker yet?
Yeah. Anybody that comes to the Lakers, in my opinion,
and when you have as many options as LeBron had
and you come to L.A. when we hadn't been to the playoffs since so long.
And last year, we were on our way and he gets hurt.
And this year, Anthony Davis comes.
And best record in the West is, yeah, he's a Laker.
All right, fair, fair enough.
Let's get to the NFL.
You're the one who came on this very set.
A couple weeks here, and you said zero percent chance.
Yeah.
zero percent chance Tom Brady returns to New England
You thought I was crazy when I said it right?
You believe it now?
I know look do I believe there's a chance that he leaves?
Yes I would I would never go zero percent chance I don't think
especially when there isn't one that you're like that makes total sense because
so much of it is about relationships you know position coach head coach coordinator
there's not like outside of Tennessee tell me the place where
he has a relationship with somebody on the coaching staff,
let alone the front office.
So he's going to have to import all of his verbiage,
his entire offensive scheme,
to a new team in short order.
That doesn't feel like something that's done often,
especially to a guy who's been in the league as long as he has.
Two things is it will be give and take.
He will point out what he likes to do,
what he's done in the past, the things,
and the schemes that he really likes.
And that coordinator for wherever he goes,
they will also do the same thing.
Now, let's go back to what you said earlier.
he doesn't have to have a fit or a relationship.
The Patriots have all but made their decision.
When have we seen a guy that you really want on the market?
If a team really wants you, they one, resign you or two,
why would I allow the clause to be in your contract
that says we can't franchise you if we didn't want to move on?
They're ready to move on.
And that's okay.
But if they really wanted Brady,
they would have resigned him during a season.
he wouldn't hit the market like he's going to hit here soon if the Patriots really wanted him back.
Yeah, that actually makes a ton of sense.
I do think, though, that there could have been a working agreement,
hey, let's worry about that then.
We don't have to worry about it now.
It's a clause that he obviously wanted,
and maybe it's a clause that he fought for in an effort to, you know,
they wanted to give him less money.
So they're like, all right, you want to give me less money?
Fine.
I want to be a free agent at the end of this deal.
I look at it is he's taking the,
less. And people forget, I think
everybody's on it. So Brady takes less.
Everybody. People forget Brady was
the highest paid player in the league when he came up.
Correct. But he is taking less
and you look at the
skill players. Look at their yearly salary.
Nobody makes big money
on that offense. Nobody.
Julian Edelman, I believe,
was at seven, on average, seven and a half
a year. They trade for Sunil. He's at
six and a half a year. Everybody else is two to three,
maybe four million dollars, the entire offense
skill player wise. And so
So Brady's, where is this money going?
So he looks at these other teams.
Titans, look at their weapons.
The Chargers, look at their weapons.
The Bucks, look at their weapons.
And that's enticing.
But we'd also offer up that the,
it's not that the Patriots haven't tried to go out
and get him wide receiver help.
At one time, it was Josh Gordon.
It was Antonio Brown.
And they did trade for Muhammad Sanoo.
Should they trade for Manuel Sanders?
Yes, not for Muhammad Sano.
That was a bad decision.
But it's not, and they drafted a first round,
graphic. It's not for lack of trying.
It's for lack of executing getting new
skill position guys. That I
agree. Josh Gordon, he couldn't
he just couldn't abide by the rules.
It wasn't going to happen. The AB situation,
they stumbled
upon that. They kind of got
lucky getting AB. Nakil Harry is
the only one that baffles me.
If your system is that complicated
where a rookie can't learn it, change your system.
Make it easier. Make it easier.
You're saying all I seem, but Chad couldn't
pick up on the system. There's been veterans that have
able to get it either. But
Chad not picking it up
is that's, I know.
And so, but if
you got guys, even Sunua's going in there
and said, man, the system is pretty hard. Right.
Okay. So you're going to, so
it shouldn't be that hard. Okay.
But so by that, you think it's
going to be easy for Tom Brady to do it one
way he's done it. And then all of a sudden now
no one knows
anything about what he's going to teach
this entire team, his system. And that's
why I say it's going to be some give and take.
He's going to bring his ideas and the coordinator
is going to have his ideas and we mesh those
things and we form one offense.
Brady is smart. If you get to a team
that has weapons, he's going to
succeed. All right. So I
offered up that if I were the Cowboys,
I don't think Dak Prescott is worth
over $30 million guaranteed.
Why are you doing Dak like this, man?
Why? Do you
see what guys are getting and you say he should
take less than these guys?
No, I think he... Not more than
30 million. Again, what he's worth on the open market. Like, that's the way true business works.
True.
What will, you have to get an offer somewhere else, then come back to us. They're offering
him this amount of money because of franchise or transitional tag and because, well, he wants
what Jared Goff got. The Jared Goff contract is a bad contract.
Jared Goff's not, we would agree. He's not worth that money.
Jared Goff went to the Super Bowl. He took the team to Super Bowl. Okay. So even if you think
that Gerogov's not great, that would be my second.
second argument, which is people say we should make more money than Goff than Wence.
He's been as good or better. No, he hasn't. Wence was going to be the MVP of the league.
And Jared Gauph. See, you can't do that. Why? You can't do that. Why? Wince was. He did not.
He didn't. I don't care what he was. There's a lot of guys that were on their way to be in something and never did it and never made it. Yeah, he got hurt.
But if you look at win loss. Who's a better? No, who's the better? Don't do the win loss thing.
Who is the better quarterback? Carson Wins or Dak Prescott? I haven't seen Wins throw the ball.
in person.
And so I've seen
Dak throw in person.
I would have to see,
like it's easy.
Like people,
coaches play a big part in this,
play calls,
the guys you're playing with.
That plays a part in it.
But I don't know who's a better quarterback.
Looking at it,
you would say Wince because he's bigger.
He has a better arm.
He's a little more mobile than Dak is.
But I don't see this.
And you can't judge.
You don't know what a guy has up here.
And that's the biggest thing in sports.
So we can see the physical.
but you can't see the mental.
All right.
So if you're DAC and they say, look, man,
this is as much as we're doing,
three years, 105 is the newest report.
Well, we're going to franchise tagging.
What do you do?
And what's the total years on the contract?
If it's a four-year deal, I take it.
Anything more than that?
No.
If it's four years, I'll take it.
Just because if I'm going to take less guarantee money
than two guys that I came out with
and I believe golf got 110
why would I take less guarantee
than those two guys? Now
golf was a first pick, Wins was the second pick.
If Dak was a third pick, do you not think
the Cowboys would have signed him by now?
And so if he was a third pick of the draft,
he would have been extended by now.
Okay, but he also wasn't
and he fell into a ready-made team.
Again, we're creating scenarios with
like because the Cowboys got him in the fourth round,
suddenly they have to overpay him in his next contract.
He made a ton of money off the football field.
Why? Because he was playing for Dallas Cowboys.
But see, you're looking at it subjectively and not objectively
because when Tony Romo got hurt,
that pretty much saved the Cowboys.
Like, he could have been awful.
Sure.
And we wouldn't even be having this conversation.
Sure.
But if you look at it objectively and you look at what he's done and you look at his record,
last year was not, he went eight and eight.
And he still has the second most wins of any quarterback.
in his first four years behind Russell Wilson.
He went eight and eight this year.
I understand.
That has to mean something.
He went eight and eight in a division where the Redskins were non-competitive,
the Giants were non-competitive,
and when they lost to the Eagles and they didn't score,
the Cowboys didn't score a touchdown.
The Eagles had practice squad guys out there scoring touchdowns.
But I will say this.
I'm not making Dak the highest paid quarterback in the league,
but I believe he should be at $33, $33.3.3 million a year.
I truly do.
He's T.J. Hush Manzada, of course.
He's a former pro bowler.
You'll see him.
You going to speak for yourself today?
Yes, sir.
All right.
He's doing to speak for yourself.
And he has strong and educated opinions on all things, not just football.
You've got plans this weekend.
Be prepared with windshield wipers that can handle anything.
Michelin Endurance XT Silicon Wiper Blades are real, real proven for extreme weather performance,
lasting two times longer than other blades.
New Michelin Endurance XT Silicon Wiper Blades, only available at Walmart.
Let's get to Joy Taylor with the news.
No.
Turn on the news.
This.
is the herd line news.
Two things TJ and I agree strongly on.
Jack Prescott and Joe Burrow.
Yeah, TJ's not a big Joe Burrow guy.
Great minds think alike.
No, TJ loves Joe Burrow.
No, he said, but I thought you told me
I, Joe Burroughs.
You said pellet gun arm, that's what you said.
No, he, his arm, he doesn't have a Justin Herbert arm.
Right.
But how many people do?
His arm is good enough, but it's not, it's not Herbert.
So when you say you agree with him,
You agree with him on what on Joe Burrow?
That everyone's kind of exaggerating that like Joe Burrow isn't as good as he was.
We were on Burrow in September.
A long time ago.
Wait, so you do think Joe Burroughs going to be awesome?
Yeah.
Okay.
And you do as well.
And I think he's the best prospect.
Who's exaggerating that he's not as good?
Me and Cowherd or you're talking about Colin?
I mean, a lot of people are very skeptical of Joe Burrow.
Yeah, look, I think here's what I think Joe Burroughs run into.
It's because he got beat out at Ohio State.
People don't understand.
It's a, you point of this.
out earlier, which is brilliant and correct.
College football is almost a different sport than the NFL.
It is a different sport.
Yeah.
I mean, you know, the rules are relatively the same, but the skill set it takes can be
very, very different.
And he walked into a place where they had a dude there.
And there's a bunch of other guys.
And when he had a chance to win the job, he was hurt anyway.
And there are just guys that can't play for certain coaches in college.
That also happens.
So I don't hold it against him that he,
didn't play at Ohio State because, you know, when he got a chance, he showed what he can do.
I don't also, I also don't care about how old he is because right now at quarterback, you can play
until you're 40 years old. So who cares if he's ahead of the curve right now because he's a little bit
older? He did this in the SEC. I mean, I don't know. A lot of people have played quarterback in
college football, and he had the greatest statistical season in the history of the sport at that position.
And the toughest conference. Yes, yes. I'm trying to figure out what the hook is.
There's lots of great college football teams.
I get like, like, everybody's stats now are going to be greater than the previous generation because they have more snaps.
They throw the football more.
The games are longer.
I think if you want to make an argument against Joe Burrow, you can you can make that.
Yes.
But I just, my argument against against any.
And this would happen when Tebow had all the stats in the SEC, which is like the game is getting more offensive.
We're skewing it more towards these guys that dominate having the football.
and the SEC
as talented as it is
the defenses weren't what they had been.
That said, that said
he was incredible and he was incredible
in the biggest and most important
moments. Against the toughest competition in the sport.
So Zion Williamson's been playing
incredible since he's returned from his knee
injury. His performance has
obviously started a little bit of a debate between
Zion and John Morant for rookie of the year
but Charles Barkley still wants
Jod to win. He said, I want to say this
about Zion Williamson. He's an amazing kid
from a distance.
He's been a great jolt of energy for the NBA.
But if they screw John Moran out of this rookie of the year thing,
I'm going to be really pissed and I'm going to blow a gasket on T&T,
which I don't know if I'm going to be pissed about it,
but I do think that John Moran is rookie of the year.
And I think it's a bit of an overreaction to say that it should be Zion's award.
Like, neither one of them are playing for regular season awards,
as I would say most of the NBA is not.
their champions are there to win a championship, but it is nice to have a good season to recognize,
and it's nice to win rookie of the year. But Jaws has been available all season, and as incredible
as Zion has been, and if Zion had been available all season, it obviously would probably go
to Zion. I don't think that you can really make a realistic argument. The most amount of games
that Zion can play this year is 37. So it's clearly Jaws award. I'm with Charles on that,
but I've been saying this since this Zion thing kind of started.
love Zion. He's obviously a superstar. He's everything that we wanted him to be and we're hoping to see.
But for whatever it's worth, John Morant is still rookie of the year.
They had the, the Pelicans had lost three out of four before beating the heat and the Timberwolves.
I would generally agree with you that Grizzies are also playing for a playoff spot.
That was not expected this year. He's making people better around him.
And as much as Zion has been, like Charles said, a jolt of energy.
energy. It hasn't always, his production hasn't always equated to wins, right? Like he's still, he is,
part of it is he's a rookie. He's lost on defense. He, he, while he's so athletic for a guy his
size and he's able to guard bigger players as well, he's a unique matchup. But again, not all of
his successes directly correlating to when they win and when they lose. He's just not. And, and,
whereas I think Jaws is. And that would be that.
in addition to the number of games play, I would lean Jha as well.
Right.
Well, I mean, they're eighth and ninth in the standing.
So it's not like there's a huge gap between them teams-wise.
But I would agree with that.
But to me, it's just the amount of games to play.
Like Jaws been available all season and has had a great season all season long,
as opposed to obviously Zion not being able to play.
So Ryan Tannahill stepped in and saved the Titans 2019 season,
but there's obviously a lot of rumors about what's going to happen at the position in Tennessee
because Tom Brady is holding up the entire NFL with his decision.
decision, which has every right to do.
But Titans wide receiver, A.J. Brown would be happy if Tanna Hill returned,
and he's also not saying he wouldn't love catching passes from the goat either.
Of course, we want Ryan back, you know, of course.
I got chemistry with him already, so going to be a two, I feel like it'll just,
it'll grow more.
But, you know, unfortunately, if things don't go with his plan, you know,
and we get Tom Brady or whatever, like, who wouldn't want to play with Tom Brady?
He know how to do it.
He wants Super Bowls, and we'll, we'll.
we're fortunate
enough to get Tom Brady this year,
it would be insane.
Yeah,
this is kind of
the fallout
of this free agency
situation with Tom Brady.
We've got Derek Carr,
Ryan Tannahill,
the situation.
This is the unspoken part.
This is the unspoken part
about the free agency thing
is like,
if your team or coach
lusts over Tom Brady,
you're somebody else's,
you're saying that
he's better than somebody else.
Right.
and it divides the locker room.
It's the fallout of all of this.
It's why we've been talking about Derek Carl all day,
what's going to happen with him,
the Ryan Tannhill situation,
and why all of the NFL and all the free agency moves are at a standstill right now.
I mean, obviously nothing can really be made right now,
but there's trades that are on the table that people are discussing,
and it's like nobody's going to do anything.
And so we find out where Tom Brady goes, Tom Minos,
we play it a couple times a week.
But this is what I'm talking about.
And this is what I don't like about it.
Because if you're not really sure, and that's why I kind of feel like there's,
there's a good chance that one of these teams gets Tom Brady and he leaves.
Because if you're not really sure, there's a good chance you could get Tom Brady,
you're discrediting your current guy.
And that has implications.
Like that has implications in the locker room.
It affects the fans.
Fans feel like you lost out on something.
They lose faith in a guy that they would otherwise have been behind.
Like there's some fallout from not getting Tom Brady.
This is a little, you know, that meme?
where the guy's got his arm around the girl,
and then he's looking back at somebody else.
Yeah.
That's what all these NFL teams are guilty of doing.
Right, except for that girl that's looking angry
because you see that's going on.
It's going to remember that you did that.
And then also what is that actually from?
I think it's just a stock photo that someone found.
Like it was a photo shoot done.
I think that's the story behind it.
It's not like a real picture.
Okay.
Anyway, finally, Tua had his four-month scans on his dislocated hip yesterday.
and the results were reportedly very good with no concerns.
He's been cleared to resume light football activities,
such as dropping back and throwing and low-impact running.
At this point in his recovery,
these results were as positive as possible.
I don't really know what low-impact running is.
I guess, like a light jog.
No sprinting.
It's a soft jay jog, I believe.
I don't know.
Because you can't really get on a treadmill, right?
Well, it means he's not cutting.
Probably not, definitely not cutting.
Straight lines.
Yeah.
Probably just jogging to see what his gate looks.
like. I thought
Lee Steinberg,
who's Mahomes agent, he's also Jerry
Judy's agent, he's reping him.
I thought Lee made a mistake
in saying, promised that he would throw
at his pro day, whatever, like...
It's too premature. Yeah.
It doesn't...
Now you're only let down if he's not ready for
that, right? Like, all medicals
are good. The hip appears to be good.
The big thing is,
if you're drafting Tua,
even if you think he's recovering, the
likelihood you're going to throw him out there early in the season is not strong.
That's why I don't think it's, I think he needs to go somewhere where they have a
situation where he can sit for a year.
Yeah.
It's not crazy.
I mean, none of us are doctors, right?
So we don't know what's going on.
No, but I'm not speculating about that.
But I think that a injury of this magnitude on top of coming into the league and having
the responsibility of commanding a team is kind of a lot.
Yep.
But that's going to happen if he goes to certain places because they don't have a guy in
place that, I mean, fans are going to be begging to see Tua, and he's not ready.
That's Joy Taylor with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.

Doug Gottlieb in for Colin.
This is in fact the herd.
Every day when we like to close up shop,
we keep something in our back pocket.
We call it the best for last.
It's almost the end of the show,
but that doesn't mean we're phoning it in.
Nope, we grind to the very last segment.
It's time for best.

the herd hierarchy as our best for last. We'll do the NBA version of the herd hierarchy.
You may notice who's missing, not just who's in it, and who's number one.
Let's get after it with number 10.
Number 10.
Now, you're hearing the John Tesh song, you know that Fox Sports One, we own the rights to it.
Use it in college basketball.
Awesome.
That's why we're not getting sued right now.
It's great.
You used to use it on NBC, right?
Mavericks at number 10, number three in scoring offense.
They have Luca.
And while the Mavs with Dirk had many, many years in which they fell early in the playoffs,
this could be that sneaky team that does the opposite of what so many Maverick teams of the past it,
the lower-seated team that pulls off the upset.
Lucas is a walking triple-double.
Prozingus seems to fit like hand and glove.
I think they have enough talent to win a series.
I'll put them in number 10.
Number nine.
Can we all agree that Chris Paul can still play and Billy Donovan can really coach?
Eight and two in their last 10 games. Chris Paul, 17 and a half a game, 6.8, assists, 4.9 rebounds through 64 games. If you had the Thunder at 40 and 24.
One game better than last year with Paul George and with Russell Westbrook, I commend you. I commend you. I don't know what the over under is with their season, probably low 40s, but they're going to hit the over. They're going to hit it. Thunder at 9.
Number eight. We'll go with the heat. We've seen them beat the Milwaukee Bucks, not once, but 12.
They do have an unbelievable amount of toughness.
It's hard to tell regular season how many of these teams get the South Beach flu
and how many of these teams just get manhandled.
But man, the heat are tough to beat at home.
You have the leadership, competitiveness and experience of Jimmy Butler is your best player.
Like the heat.
Don't love them.
Like them.
Number seven.
You know, the Utah Jazz is starting to kind of figure some things out.
Donovan Mitchell is only shooting 38% from the field in March.
So he's not even hitting shots and they're winning games.
still have Rudy Gobert, still have an offensive savant in their head coach,
and winning games without Donovan Mitchell hitting shots shows kind of their overall growth
as they've tinkered with their starting lineup.
I like the Jazz team.
I think they'll win their first round playoff series.
Number six.
Then you have the nuggets.
Five and five in last ten games, including the loss of the Cavs on Saturday.
I really just want to get that Jamal Murray highlight from last night.
And did you guys see the dunk that Jamal Murray had last night?
It was called an offensive foul.
it's kind of the nastiest dunk.
It was on DJ Wilson
for the bucks.
It was about as filthy a dunk as you're going to see.
Yokic, last two games struggling,
eight of 24 combined 19 points,
fourth and assist per game.
But the Nuggets have played
and have won in the playoffs.
I have more faith than others.
Number five.
Raptors keep winning regular season games.
I don't know what to make up them in the postseason.
Kyle Lowry's playing great hoop.
They're 21 and four
of the last 25 games.
Best record in the NBA over the last 25 games.
On pace to finish with a better record than last year.
Number one in scoring defense and defense does travel, not just for the regular,
but also the postseason, allowing just 106.5 points per game.
Raptors, I want to put them ahead of the Celtics.
I want to.
I just can't because I have a tough time seeing Pascal Seacum as or Kyle Lowry as two guys
that can carry a team in the playoffs.
We'll put them at five, even though over the last 25,
they've been the best team in the NBA.
Number four. Celtics.
They've been worse since getting Kyrie back.
That may defy logic.
I still think you get to winning time in the playoffs and you got Kyrie.
Jason Tatum went on that heater.
Part of the reason he went on the heater was he didn't have Kyrie taking up a bunch of the shots.
But Jason Tatum was Eastern Conference Player the Month in February,
38 and 3.2 assists per game.
They're number two in scoring defense.
So they have the defense of the Raptors,
only I feel like they have more go-to guys for the playoffs than the Raptors.
I'll put the Celtics at four.
Number three.
Put the bucks at three.
Drop them to three.
It's not just Janice's injury or the three-game losing streak,
and I understand you're playing without some of your players.
They're number one in point differential,
number one in field goal percentage defense,
number one in rebounds,
but they play a lot of blowouts.
Play a lot of blowouts.
And I think teams are figuring out how to play against Janus,
how to be physical, when to help, when to stay home.
You look at the template that the heat gave us,
the Lakers used it.
I think the Nuggets want to use it.
They just didn't get a shot.
The Emperor has some clothes, but not as many as he's walking around strutting with.
I'll put the Bucks at a distant third to the top two teams.
Number two.
Put the Lakers at number two.
I understand we're supposed to freak out over the weekend,
but the Lakers had to win both those games.
They just did.
And LeBron, he gave him everything he had.
Lakers, four straight wins, including wins over the Bucks and Clippers.
Two and a half games find the Bucks for the best record in the NBA.
13 and 2 record since the start of February.
That's the best in the NBA.
And LeBron over his last four games,
39 and 11 assists per game.
They also protect the rim, number one in blocks.
And they shoot the best field goal percentage of anybody in the NBA,
but they're not a great three-point shooting team.
They still haven't found that backup point guard
or starting point guard that they won.
And I'm just concerned that LeBron's giving too much effort
and putting too much into the regular season
and not saving up for the postseason.
I still think the depth of my number one team is greater
and it makes them a better team.
Number one.
Clippers are 10 and 1 when they have the entire roster.
I know they just lost to the Lakers.
I did see that happen.
But I just, they missed a lot of shots they normally make.
And they're adding a lot of pieces to a curious puzzle.
Top 5 in offensive and defensive rating.
Fourth in offense, fifth in defense.
8 and 1 at one possession games.
They know how to win when it matters.
That's really what it comes down to.
Like the bucks win more games, but the Clippers win more close games.
The Lakers have a good team.
The Clippers have a slightly better team in terms of depth.
The Clippers are slightly younger and fresher and better.
The Clippers are my number one too.
There's the herd hierarchy.
Joy Taylor.
What do you think?
Well, I mean, you're missing a team.
I think people would probably have up there normally.
The Rockets?
That'd be the Rockets.
Yes.
And no 76ers either.
Yeah, no Sixers.
I'm okay with no Sixers right now.
I think I'm okay with the Rockets too.
Yeah, right?
I mean, their coach just said they've hit.
Current.
Current.
Current.
Current.
I still think the Clippers over the Lakers as of now.
I know the Lakers just won the game.
That's a hard thing.
And I don't know what some of those guys will do in the playoffs.
I do think, and I think the Clippers hit him right in the mouth.
I mean, the Lakers hit the Clippers right in the mouth.
By the way, LeBron did a bit of a pivot and a 180 on his stance that he wouldn't play if there were no fans in the stands.
Yeah, that was to be expected, though.
To be expected.
But it's one of those things where as long as he's done this, you would think the initial reaction would be different, right?
I tend to not judge LeBron when he has a moment like that because, well, first of all, it didn't bother me that he said he wasn't going to play at all.
I would not want to play in front of an empty arena either.
So that would probably be my response as well.
But LeBron is generally perfect with the media for the most part.
It's like 99% perfect.
So I'm going to.
I think he's perfect with his off-the-court life.
I think he handles most of he handles,
but he does say things, which to me are very imperfect
and surprising considering how refined he is in so many other parts of his life.
Again, I think we hold LeBron to like his own standards.
I understand.
Which is probably ridiculously unfair.
All right, we'll get you ready for speak for yourself.
We don't know if Colin will be back tomorrow.
