Greg Kosel one hour, wrap it up, Super Bowl.
What did he see on film?
Was Garoplo as bad as everybody thinks?
Patrick Malhombs struggled.
One hour from now, Greg CoSell stopped by,
wraps up the Super Bowl.
What did he see on?
on film. Rick Buecker, Nick Wright this hour's always a hoot.
Good to have you. Joy Taylor joining me. Joy, how are you?
Great. Good morning. Good morning, everybody. I saw two stories today, and they're kind of converging,
and they don't feel like they would be joined, but they kind of are. The first story is
the chiefs are going to break the bank on Patrick Mahomes, and they may do it sooner than later.
And the second one is Troy Ackman thinks Dak Prescott's going to get a long-term deal.
Now, let me just say this. I think the NBA,
allows its stars more mobility.
They bounce around the league.
LeBron's in Cleveland.
Then he's in Miami.
Then he's in Cleveland.
Then he's in the Lakers.
He doesn't even have to stay for the Lakers to end it if he doesn't want.
The NFL's different.
You're a packer.
You're a packer.
Mahalms is going to be in Kansas City for the next 15 years.
They're not letting him go.
Now, I would say it empowers the individual in the NBA,
but I think it powers the league in the NFL because you feel inclusive.
Small market Baltimore's got Lamar for 15 years.
Small market Kansas City.
small market, Green Bay.
They don't feel inferior.
In fact, they feel superior to the L.A.s and the New Yorks.
NBA is more about the glamour cities,
and it makes the Sacramentos and the Memphis's and the Portland sometimes feel Milwaukee.
You know, you're on edge.
You're going to lose your stars.
Again, both have salary caps.
All the stars, Aaron Rogers, the LeBron, could make more without a salary cap.
It's not like, you know, the NFL.
Tom Brady hasn't suffered in New England.
It's the first time he's on the market, though.
but I was thinking about this.
Let's start with Troy Eichmann.
Troy says, despite some Adam Schaefter reports
that the Cowboys would prefer franchise tagging him,
Troy talks about DAC going forward.
My guess is they work something out.
I think the Cowboys, they've said it.
I believe they really want him back.
I have no reason to think otherwise.
I believe Mike McCarthy really wants him back.
Dak wants to be there.
I think it's inevitable that they're going to reach a deal.
I would be surprised right now
if that's the route that they go.
I think that everyone understands that he's the quarterback of the future.
Well, a franchise tag means he's the quarterback of the near future.
Jake Glazer always says if you get the quarterback right,
your coffee tastes better for a decade, the breakfast is better,
you drive to the facility every day knowing you can win on Sunday.
And sometimes your quarterback can carry you.
He said, if you don't have the right quarterback,
it's no fun coaching in the league.
You have to overcoach, you need breaks, everything is harder.
Nobody says you can't win with DAC, but is he the right quarterback to spend 35 million large?
Here's my simple rule on this thing.
Ask yourself this, if you know you have the right quarterback.
Is he at least absolutely the second best quarterback in the division?
Then you should probably pay it.
Now, history tells you, if you have the best quarterback,
in the division, you will win the division more and win playoff games more often.
You don't want the second best quarterback in your division.
But if you have a Peyton Manning, if you have a Patrick Mahomes, you could have a Pro Bowl
quarterback.
He's just not Mahomes.
So now let's shift to the second best quarterbacks, the top two quarterbacks.
You're not going to win with the third best quarterback in your division consistently.
What about Nick Foles?
Nick Foles got home field in the playoffs because Carson,
Wence, the best quarterback in his division, got him home field.
Otherwise, Nick Foles is going on the road in those playoffs.
It was a number one quarterback, Carson Wence, that got the Eagles home field throughout.
They're not winning that Atlanta game going down to Atlanta.
So let's go to the AFC and the NFC.
So in the AFC East, Brady's the best quarterback.
I like Darnold long term over Josh Allen, but right now it's close.
If Darnold doesn't make up some ground in the next year or two, it's time to move on.
But I would go Brady and Darnold.
AFC North, I'd go Lamar and Ben.
AFC West, I'd go Mahomes, Derek Carr.
AFC South, I'd go to Sean Watson, and this is why Indianapolis is going to draft a quarterback, probably Tannahill.
In the NFC, I'd go, NFC North, I'd go Aaron Rogers, Kirk Cousins, Detroit, you got some moves to make.
NFC South, I'd go Breeze and Matt Ryan.
NFC West, I'd go Russell Wilson Easley.
I'm a little...
Garoppolo edge over golf.
Let's watch that play out.
In a year, if you don't like Garoppolo or golf,
L.A.'s got a problem.
San Francisco can move off him.
Then you get to the NFC East.
Wentz is clearly from his draft position
to his armed talent,
to his size and mobility.
He's number one.
You saw at the end of the year,
Wentz carried a injury-riddled mess to the playoffs.
Dak had everything and couldn't score touchdowns against average defenses.
So who's the second best quarterback in the division?
The obvious answer is it was Dak.
But as Jerry Jones saying to himself,
I've been in this football league 30 years.
We won titles with Aikman.
When Eli was number one, the Giants won titles.
Carson Wentz in my division got Nick Fowles' home field advantage.
Does Jerry want to watch Daniel Jones of the Giants and DAC?
Let's watch them play twice.
Next year, Daniel Jones no longer a rookie, perhaps has a better coaching staff.
What if Daniel Jones, with less around him, outplays DAC?
Do you have the third best quarterback in your division?
I got news for you.
You pay that guy $38 million for the third best quarterback in your division.
You are not a playoff team.
I think that's incredibly reasonable for the Cowboys to say we're franchise tagging him for a year,
and we believe now he's number two.
But if we're wrong on this, if we are wrong on this, it's three to four years of hell.
And Jerry's not getting younger.
And Jerry's only goal is to win Super Bowls.
So just ask yourself, Chicago, is Tribisky as good as Kirk Cousins?
Because we know he's not Aaron Rogers?
No, it's time to move off.
Baker Mayfield.
If this year, we know he's not Lamar, I don't think he's Big Ben off an injury.
If Baker this year doesn't move back into his accuracy strength, it's time to start thinking about somebody else.
That's the cruelty, the vulgarity, and the reality of the NFL.
You cannot have the third best quarterback in your division.
If Jerry believes DAC is a two, sign him long term today.
Go far.
What do I care?
Going to have to pay him $35 million, but if you're paying $35 million and Daniel Jones next year at some point appears to be the second best quarterback in that division, because he looked really good in spots last year, then you're in trouble, and Jerry has got no more Super Bowls in his future.
Oh, I'll watch after this.
You know, and this is the way the NBA draft works, after about the seventh pick, you run out of players historically.
We had two really good draft picks.
John Morant's terrific.
I think everybody thought he would be.
People thought he could be a better shooting Westbrook.
He's been terrific.
And Zion, who I would have taken because I do think there's a merch.
I'm getting very cool.
There is a merch dynamic to Zion, a size and merchandise dynamic.
He's a ticket seller, a shoe seller, a jersey seller.
Not that John Morant couldn't be great.
Zion's one of those guys in a football city like New Orleans to bring in him.
Boy, you can move the needle.
You can sell 7,000 season tickets or whatever you have to.
sell. So Zion last night
played Janice in Milwaukee. Now, just to give you a heads
up, I was just before the Super Bowl
on Sunday, I went for a walk on a place
on the beach near my house.
And Humblebragg. And I ran
into one of my NBA scouts,
an advanced scout. I'm not going to say his name.
Very smart guy. Excellent source.
And he had just gotten off a road trip,
and he said, man, Milwaukee's loaded.
He said Milwaukee is going to breeze through the east.
He goes, they got the best player.
They have this, maybe the second best
coach. They have the deepest roster. It's Clippers deep. He goes, they play real defense.
And now they have playoff experience. He said, Milwaukee's really good. So last night, Zion
faced Milwaukee. And Milwaukee threw bodies at him and they threw different defenses at him.
And Zion kind of struggled. And at the end, Zion dropped 20. That's the best defense in the
East, probably the best defense in the league. And Zion dropped 20. His shooting percentage wasn't
great. You can't ask a 19-year-old. And it's
seventh game this year, who's still not in good shape?
He's still not in good shape.
He didn't look like he was in good shape last night.
But for Zion to drop 20 last night against the best defensive team in this league,
the best big in Janus in the league, you got yourself a star.
That's what a star looks like.
Was he efficient?
Oh, God, no.
He's not in shape.
That is a great team he faced.
And New Orleans has got a bunch of babies and a bunch of kids and they're not ready to win that
game.
they're not ready to fight through that defense.
But I thought Zion last night, when you can go out and face the best defense and the best
big, struggle from the floor, but flourish in the fourth and finish with 20, that's again
what a star looks like in the NBA.
He's 19.
Nine months ago he was at Duke, coming off a surgery, still not in shape.
Folks, John Morant and Zion are two stars.
I feel as strongly today as I've ever felt.
Zion talked about scrapping a little last night to get to 20 points.
A little bit.
You know, it's frustrating sometimes when I feel like I can go do my 45-inch vert, like layup or dunk,
and I'm like at 30, 35.
So it is frustrating, but I'm never one to see her making excuses.
They did play great defense and just got to learn from it.
Yeah.
They just threw waves of people.
at him. It's the deepest roster in the east.
And they threw a bunch of different looks at him.
They're one of the best defenses,
one of the best coach teams.
But I think Zion Williamson
is a breath of fresh air.
And to drop 20 last night against that defense
and not shoot well, very impressive to me.
Coming up next, it's the NBA trade deadline, right?
Tomorrow, Lakers, Kyle
Kuzma, is reportedly
close or in trade
talks. I think it is a
big mistake for LeBron and the Lakers to go here.
I'll talk about that plus Nick Wright coming up next.

Today go live online. Nick Wright in 10 minutes.
We know this to be true.
Toronto is a great example last year.
Veterans win in the playoffs.
The NBA officials, there's two NBA seasons.
There's a regular season and then there's a postseason, right?
And in the postseason, this is the way it works.
The refs swallow their whistles.
Translation, older, stronger veteran players flourish.
They do.
They have forever.
Let's not argue about it.
So I would prefer to have a roster led by veterans.
But having some young guys matters because they eat minutes and you can't just rely on old guys.
You've got to save these guys on certain nights.
Kyle Kuzma has been on the trading block for the Lakers now for several weeks.
I don't like it.
Listen, he's not good defensively, nor does he have much feel for passing.
But he's 6'8, long, athletic and gives you 26 minutes a night.
And he can space the floor a little bit and hit the occasional three.
He's not a great player, but he's young.
And the Lakers are old.
And one of their only other fairly young players is Anthony Davis, who can't stay healthy.
The longest stretch the last two years for Anthony Davis is 17 games before he has an injury.
And when he plays, he's in pain.
You watch the Laker games.
He hits the floor.
He's grabbing his back.
He's got a shoulder issue.
This has been a chronic problem.
Big guys don't get healthier the older they get.
In fact, I've been told that LeBron gets on Anthony to play through injuries because the rep for Anthony Davis in his career early was he didn't.
He just took the night off.
So if you trade Kyle Kuzma, and this is the way LeBron teams work, LeBron and Tom Brady are very similar.
They like older, more mature players.
Why?
Higher IQ.
They get the playbook faster.
You can rely on them in the playoffs.
The downside of that, of course, for Brady is the Patriots look old and slow.
Kansas City and Baltimore do not.
The downside of the Lakers is you trade Kuzma, Anthony Davis gets nicked up,
it's LeBron carrying a bunch of old guys that can't defend Goulet.
Sorry, John.
Here's the reality.
You're not going to rely on Kyle Kuzma in the playoffs, but he's an innings eater.
He's a 26 minute-a-night, 6-8-long kid who can space the floor.
This team is going to be LeBron.
you can't rely on Anthony Davis in the postseason.
LeBron's going to carry this team,
and my guess is he's going to carry him to the Western Conference Finals
before they're eclipsed by a deeper, more talented clipper team.
We'll see what happens.
I like Utah a lot too.
But Utah can't defend LeBron or Coilander.
So I guess my point is, when LeBron leaves teams,
we've seen a pattern.
They're bad, but they're always old because LeBron doesn't want young guys.
That's why Josh Hart's no longer a Laker.
Brandon Ingram's no longer a Laker.
Lanzo ball is no longer a Laker.
They got rid of all of them.
That's fine to get Anthony Davis.
But you better have some innings eaters.
You better have 26 minutes a night because Anthony Davis gets hurt.
And the Western Conference is not going to be a breeze for the Lakers.
They're not going to sweep 4-0-40-4-0.
This isn't the East.
Okay, LeBron in the first round could end up facing Houston
or a Utah, you know, a dangerous Dallas team that can shoot.
And so you're going to have five and six game series.
You think Anthony Davis is going to go through four series like that
and not have an injury and not miss games?
And it's going to be LeBron and a bunch of old guys that can't defend.
You don't rely on Kuzma, but he's young, he's long, he's athletic, 26 minutes a night.
Be very careful.
You got to push back on LeBron sometimes.
This is one of those, didn't LeBron say,
week ago were good enough to win a title, didn't he? And they are. They are good enough to win a title.
Be very careful here at the trading deadline. Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Well, as you said, the trade deadline
is approaching and the rockets, hawks, timberwolves, and nuggets completed a massive 12-player trade.
The biggest names on the move are Clint Capella, who went from the rockets to the hawks.
And Robert Covington, who moves from Minnesota to Houston.
Yeah, it's a good get for Houston.
Well, Houston is basically, they're going small ball.
Yep, yep. PJ Tucker is going to be their center.
Right.
So Capella is averaging 13.9 points per game, 13.8 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game.
So he's going to be huge for the Hawks going there and teaming up with Tray Young.
But yeah, that's basically what the Rockets are doing.
And they're 10 and 1 without Capella this season.
This trade with 12 players is the largest trade in the NBA since the deal in two.
2000 that sent Patrick Ewing to the Supersonics.
Yeah.
So a lot of moves here, but obviously the two biggest names there are Clint Capella and Robert Covington moving.
I mean, I think it's a good move for the Rockets if they feel comfortable playing small ball and that's the direction that they're going to go.
Capella is a talented guy who fits better in Atlanta than he does right now in Houston.
And Covington can be a streaky, but he's, you know, he's six, seven and a half long guy that can shoot threes.
I liked him in Philadelphia, but they had some salary cap issues.
they had to move off people.
So I think Houston, I don't know if they're better today,
but I get the move.
Houston's very, you got the owner wants one thing.
You got the coach wants another and the GM wants another.
Houston, it feels like to me Denver and Utah have surpassed them.
It's just organizationally, I feel like Utah and Denver,
everybody's on the same page in Houston.
I think you have people pulling at one another.
Well, it just feels like they don't really have a strong identity
to whatever it is that they're doing.
And then they make these big moves.
And it's like, but.
You thought you were doing that.
And then, so, yeah, I don't know.
They're going to make the playoffs this year.
Identity matters.
Like, you know, they always say, what are you?
Somebody told me years ago, I think it was Blake Shelton.
Somebody wrote a book.
It's called Save the Cat.
I think the book was.
And it was, name the movie before you start writing it.
Because at some point, you're going to have to have the story arcs.
Everybody thinks of 15 minutes to open and 15 to close.
And you're going to be in the middle of the book and think, okay, these story arcs aren't working.
what's the movie? What's the identity?
You know, what's the name of the movie? Let's go back to that.
Well, we say it in this business, too.
You should be able to describe the show in one sentence and not a long one, not even, like just a phrase.
If you get into game six and you're wondering, what are we?
You're done. Milwaukee knows what they are.
Yonnes and defense.
Right.
That's what they are.
So to your point, Houston's identity, what is it?
Well, now they're going small ball, so they're all in on that for this season, at least.
So we may not know where Tom Brady is going to play.
in 2020, but he still has his
site set on the Super Bowl. He made an appearance
at the Super Bowl this year as a member of the
NFL 100 all-time
team, which is a very nice moment before the game.
But he posted to
Instagram that he's back in the gym
and vowed, I'm not wearing a blazer
to the Super Bowl next year.
And he said he's back
at TV 12 sports to get to work
and then he put a little post.
What do I want to know about my
training regimen?
What do I want to know about Tom
training regimen.
I would be interested to know how much time he actually spends in the gym.
Yeah, what are the hours?
As opposed to, like, you know, like warming up and getting massages and getting like body
work and yoga and stretching and all that.
Like how much actual like workout stuff does he do?
I lifted weights for about 30 minutes yesterday.
I was exhausted.
I'm considering not working out anymore.
I mean, you don't.
There's so many other ways to work out besides lifting weights.
I know, but I want to be strong and defined.
And you know what?
I'm almost done working out.
I mean, don't you play tennis?
I do, and I run.
And, you know, I'm married now.
She can't, you know, she's trapped.
So this is what I am.
I'm tired of working out.
I mean, I don't mind working out, but I hate lifting weights.
I don't lift weights.
I kind of like lifting weights, but, you know, like yesterday.
But you're a guy, though, like, men like the big.
Not that much fun.
Anyway, I did think, I was wondering, though, when they showed Tom Brady.
I'm like, oh, this must be a little irritating for him.
We stand there on the sidelines watching this go down.
Finally, the Giants are hoping to get back on track with Joe Judge and Daniel Jones next season.
They've only made the playoffs once since their last Super Bowl win,
but co-owner John Mara still thinks he has everything under control.
He said, I don't fear that I've lost the touch,
but I certainly understand our fans' lack of trust in what we're doing right now,
and the only way to win that back is to start winning games.
I don't feel any differently about myself and my judgment now that I did in February of 2012.
Certainly the record doesn't bear that out,
But I have just as much confidence in myself now as I did in 2012.
Well, if Daniel Jones is as good as he was in moments last year,
then that'll solve a lot of problems because there were moments where you're like he's really good.
But the problem is we're seeing this massive step up from year one to year two
with a lot of the young quarterbacks.
So there's going to be a lot of expectations on him this year.
What he does this off season to improve his game is going to be very important.
of him and Joe Judge can get on the same page.
But I will say as far as the Giants go,
it has been a little disappointing to see the way
that they have deteriorated as an organization
because they're, I mean,
they're a cornerstone organization in this league.
And I think that the league is better
when the Giants are competitive.
You know, when you think of the Giants,
you don't think of a dysfunctional organization.
They've been dysfunctional for like six years now.
It's like this is not a new, they're not Cleveland,
but let's not pretend this is overnight.
Macadoo was a mass.
This has been for a while.
was a mess and the Cofflin was a mess.
It's been a long stretch of mediocrity.
Philadelphia is a better team and a better organization easily than the Giants.
In a much better position.
I'm very interested to see how Joe Judge, I mean, because he came in very strong in his press conference with all, you know, which he should.
But yeah, this is a crucial year for the Giants, I feel.
Good stuff, Joy with the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herdline News.
I mean, I thought Whitlock was obnoxious.
Get Nick Wright.
his Twitter account, joining us via the Coward Global Satellite.
Mercedes-Benz, the best or nothing.
Listen, I actually, you're a friend.
I'm happy for my friends.
This is amazing, and you're going to win more than one,
and you're a Kansas City guy,
but you can also be kind of obnoxious,
and so you've already got him in the Hall of Fame.
Is that what I...
I mean, literally, he's literally played an hour in the league,
and you have Mahomes in the Hall of Fame.
Okay, Colin.
Listen, you're a Fox bet partner like me.
I'm just curious.
If they posted this bet up there, yes or no, Patrick Mahomes will end his career in the
Hall of Fame.
What would yes be minus 1,500?
You're a man who likes a smart investment.
What odds would you need on your money to bet?
No, 20 to 1, 25 to 1.
Of course, he's a Hall of Famer.
He has the second most double-digit comebacks in playoff history already.
He's won a league MVP. He's won a Super Bowl MVP.
Statistically speaking, he just had the most impressive postseason run ever,
the most touchdowns in any postseason ever, despite not playing the maximum games.
It's hyperbole to say he's the greatest quarterback of all time.
Now, he probably will become that, but it's hyperbole to say that right now.
It's not hyperbole to say he has already done enough to be a Hall of Famer.
That's just what the smart numbers say, my friend.
And I don't think that's obnoxious.
I think that's just, as you would say, stone cold facts.
All right.
Yeah, I like my guys to have, you know, 40 starts, call me zany.
Let me move to this, though.
Yeah.
For three quarters, I thought Jimmy G was fine,
and I still think he's a really good quarterback.
Yesterday became kind of an embarrassing Shanahan stinks and trade Jimmy G.
So who do you blame?
because I both think I think Shanahan's the best young coach still,
and I think Garoppel is a top 12 quarterback.
I'm not selling my stock.
Where do you stand this morning?
All right, let's go with Garoppolo first.
I think top 12 is perfectly because it's perfect because I think he's about 12th.
He's fine.
Jimmy G is fine.
And I don't mean like Jimmy G is fine like some people would say.
I mean, no, he's fine.
I mean, both might be true, I suppose.
Listen, he was horrible in the first quarter.
He was horrible in the fourth quarter.
He was exceptional in the intervening two quarters.
But listen, first and 10, ball at midfield, down four,
against a decent defense, chance to go win the Super Bowl.
Ball batted down, ball nearly picked, ball overthrown to win the game,
take a sack.
That ain't great, but I don't blame Jimmy G
because that's just who he is.
He's gonna, once a game, literally throw the ball,
with his eyes closed, as he did in the first quarter that led to an interception, and he's going to
miss some open guys. Shanahan is the brightest offensive mind in football. I believe that. He also
has his fingerprints all over two things. One is the two biggest meltdowns in Super Bowl history,
and the other is around his own neck from what we saw at the end of that football game, Colin.
Listen, you got a 10 point lead in the fourth quarter.
You're in a second and nine.
You don't trust your quarterback enough at the end of the first half to even attempt a two-minute drill.
You trust him to throw back-to-back passes, and now you're punting, and now it's a three-point lead shortly thereafter.
And on that drive, and much like the Atlanta game, all the mistakes could have been eliminated with the correct call on one critical play.
after the Julio catch, second and 11, up eight, 356 left at the 23-yard line.
If you run the ball twice and kick a field goal, you're a champion, no one says anything to you.
In this game, 525 left, up three, second in five, and you call back-to-back passes,
and the next time you touch the ball, you're trailing.
You've got to be better in those spots, so both things can be true.
He can be the best offensive mind in the entire NFL and a top six coach in the league
and also have made some horrifying decisions in the biggest spots of his career that he's going to have to live with.
Before we get to the NBA, a couple of questions.
I do have one thing on tack.
I said this morning, ask yourself this.
Is your quarterback preferably the best quarterback in his division, but no worse than second best,
then you should sign him to a healthy contract.
With Dak Prescott, I franchise tag him for one year.
Daniel Jones looked really interesting at the end of this year.
We know that Wentz is better as a talent.
If DAC struggles, and I watch those games of I'm Jerry and Stephen Jones and say,
I think Daniel Jones is better, then I cannot pay DAC $35 million.
My rule is, like right now Matt Stafford, you're not Rogers, and I don't think you're cousins.
it's time to move.
Baker Mayfield, you're not Lamar.
Let's wait until Ben gets back.
If Ben's good and you're not good, Baker, I got to move.
I think there's an argument to be made to franchise DAC for a year.
Let's just see if Daniel Jones pops,
because at times he looked really, really good.
Is that fair?
Yeah, I mean, I think no matter what you think of Daniel Jones, it's fair.
It's bad business.
to pay someone who's barely in the top 10 at what he does and might not be like he's the best
at what he does. Like FS1 and Fox can really believe in me and think I have a bright future.
But if they keep offering me contract extensions and I keep saying, not unless it looks like
Colin, Colin, Skip, or Joe Buck, am I signing it, then guess what? They're moving on.
And they can be like, well, we're going to have a hole in the line to know. But at some point,
that you, you overstate your value.
And where I think DAC is making a mistake,
and you know I want everybody to get paid.
Right.
But where I think, usually the reason a team doesn't want to franchise tag a guy
is because the risk for them is if he plays great,
we're going to have to pay him at the top of the market.
But if DAC right now, as is being reported,
is already demanding top.
of the market or nothing, then there's no risk for Dallas. Franchise tag him and see what
the hell happens. Because paying Dak Prescott, $36 million a year will be a disaster. They
will be in the exact position the Rams are about to find themselves in, which is does not matter
how much talent you try to surround him with. You're not going to be talented enough
to overcome the massive amount you've overpaid. You're good, but not great.
quarterback. A couple NBA things. Let's start with this. I would not, Kyle Kuzma's on the market.
I love LeBron, but like Brady, he likes older players. When LeBron leaves teams, obviously they're not as good,
but they're often old. And they've already moved all the Lakers, young players out.
Kuzma's not great, but he's athletic, he's six, seven or eight, he is a, he can space the floor,
he gives you 26 minutes. I don't need him to carry me in the playoffs. But Anthony Davis is not
physically dependable. It's going to be LeBron and old.
old guys if you get rid of Kuzma in the postseason at times.
I don't like this.
I'm not a fan.
And I know LeBron's impatient with young players.
What say you on the Kuzma rumors?
Listen, I think you got to see what the return is.
But Kyle Kuzma is far from untouchable.
He hasn't been great this year.
He hasn't emotionally done well with the fact that all his young buddies are gone.
And I understand your point that you need some youth.
But if that youth, if his best friend on Instagram starts saying LeBron doesn't work hard
and all of a sudden he shows up looking like old school M&M from eight mile days,
then all of a sudden you might say the spotlight's a little too big for him.
And I've watched every single game the Lakers have played this year and every single game
they played last year that LeBron was active for.
And Kuzma's a guy who may be much like we've seen with other players that is,
more comfortable at this stage in his career getting his numbers on a bad team than doing the
things necessary to win for a good team. And by the way, I don't begrudge him that. You say LeBron
wants older players. That's true. But part of that is LeBron needs to play with guys who have
already been paid because they will constantly do what he preaches. Make the right play. The next time
Kuzma on a two-on-one break, keeps the ball because he wants to get a contested layup,
instead of passing it to Anthony Davis for an easy layup, I'm going to rip my hair out.
But it's because he's never been paid.
So Kuzma needs to show a little more maturity, or if he is here past the trade deadline,
and I don't think trading him would be some disaster.
And I think you're overstating the Anthony Davis injury bug.
my guess would be he's not going to miss any postseason games.
There's only one player in the league right now with a flashing red light injury concern,
and that's the guy who I think you've got winning finals MVP again,
and it's Kauai Leonard, and they also don't have a center,
and they also don't have any depth.
But because they're the clippers with that long history of winning,
we're not allowed to criticize them.
By the way, I'm overstating Kyle Kuzman.
He's got Mahomes in the Hall of Fame.
He's got him in Canton.
and he's played 15 minutes in the NFL.
Yeah, I got to, listen, that's enough of your nonsense.
Okay, I love you.
You ate up time, and I can't ask you my Zion question.
15 seconds.
What did you make a Zion last night?
15 seconds, Zion last night.
Listen, you're up against the best defense in basketball
on a team that's perfectly built to stop you
because they have nothing but super long arms and freak shows.
Like he was 40 of 60 at the rim going into the game,
67%.
He was 5 of 15 at the rim last night.
33%. He's going to you, you want to me to get ahead of myself. Zion is already one of the 30 best
players in the league. Yeah. He will win an MVP or two down the road. That's a tough matchup for him.
It's a tough matchup by the way for everyone that's played the bucks this year. Nobody should
overreact. By the way, he's back in my good graces. He's got Zion as a top 30 player in the NBA.
I don't know. I don't think he's wrong on that. That's why you guys are friends. And he's not in
shame. Do you have Mahomes as a top 30 quarterback yet? I don't know. I haven't been able to watch this.
You know, in big games, sometimes he struggles.
All right.
At Get Nick writes his Twitter account.
He's my buddy first things first.
Thanks, man.
See you, man.
All right.
Coming up next, if I'm the Philadelphia 76ers,
I blow it up and I'll tell you who I keep.
And coming up next, you're going to think it's nuts.
But optics matter.
And I'm going to throw something to you with Tom Brady,

Ryan Clark. Sometimes
when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we
are in possession of the thing
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch. Life
becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns,
Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

This is Clever Taylor the Fourth.
And on my podcast, The Clifford Show, I'm bringing you conversations about all kinds of stuff.
Like being an internet famous referee.
We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, rec, my mama want you to wave at her.
What?
Hey, Miss Parker.
Listen to the Clifford show on the IHeart Radio ad.

If you're watching the latest season of the Real Housewives of Atlanta,
you already know there's a lot to break down.
Gorsha accusing Kelly of sleeping with a merry man.
They holding Kay Michelle back from fighting Drew.
Pinky has financial issues.
I like the bougie style of Housewives show.
I think it looks like it's going to be interesting.
On the podcast, Reality with the King,
I, Carlos King, recap the biggest moments
from your favorite reality shows,
including the Real Housewives franchise, the drama, the alliances, and the T, everybody's talking about.
As an executive producer in reality television, I'm not just watching it, I understand the game.
As somebody who creates shows, I'll even say this.
At the end of the day, when people are at home, they want entertainment.

1 800 Flowers.com right now. 18 stem enchanted rose medley, 2999 or double it to 36 stems for $20 more.
1,800flowers.com. Enter the code H-E-R-D. There's a reason we don't eat blue food. You've never eaten blue food because we eat with our eyes before we eat with our mouths.
Food has to look right for us to eat it. There's a reason companies spend hundreds of millions of dollars a year
on appearance and logos.
They call it feng shui in the restaurant industry.
When you walk into a restaurant,
do you feel part of the restaurant?
I had an Italian meal last night in a restaurant
where they spent a lot of money to make it look Italian,
and it did enhance the evening.
It matters.
Derek Jeter was perfect in a Yankee uniform.
If you put Derek Jeter in a Oakland A's uniform,
he can still hit a career three,
But he doesn't look the same.
Troy Aikman, handsome, big dynamic, put in a Jags uniform, honestly he looks like Nick Foles.
Part of his imagery, part of his dynamic appearance is playing for the Cowboys.
Tom Brady is a free agent.
He can go anywhere and he's a bit trapped because New England doesn't draft receivers well.
And they don't spend money on him.
And Tom wants help.
There have been rumors about the Raiders.
Put Tom in a Raiders uniform.
Apologize to our radio audience.
It doesn't look right.
He's the most corporate NFL brand.
They're the rebels.
It doesn't look right.
The Titans are a franchise that never wins the big game.
Tom almost always wins them.
That doesn't look right.
The Miami Dolphins, I've heard Giselle want to live in Miami,
Sammy, you've got to be kidding me.
This is awful.
But if DAC continues to ask for top of the market money,
just look at Brady in a cowboy uniform for an owner in Jerry Jones,
oh my God, that is the number one merchandise seller in the league.
That is A-Rod to the Yankees times 10 and LeBron to the Lakers times five.
It looks right.
You don't think looks matter?
Jerry's got an art gallery in his stadium.
Margarita bars.
The stadium's about appearances.
I'm just saying if Dak is asking for the money he's asking for,
and Adam Schaefter's saying, they're going to franchise tag him,
hey, franchise tag him's not cheap either.
You could do worse.
Right now, Tom, in my opinion, is a better quarterback.
Do you understand the merch this would create?
This is Ronaldo to, you know, Barcelona.
That's what it was.
The merchandise, the shirts, the jerseys.
Just, I'm telling you, optics matter.
We don't eat blue food.
I don't fly yellow airplanes.
I don't.
Aeroplanes, I like Delta.
Power blue, power red.
I'm sorry, that stuff matters.
These companies all, all are spending hundreds of thousands of not,
millions of dollars on optics.
you got a free agent legend, you got a young quarterback worth about 28 that wants 38 and is not bending.
You could do worse.
It's Jerry Jones.
He has the best practice facility.
He's got the best stadium.
He's got the best brand.
He sells the most merchandise.
Look at that.
Am I crazy, Joy?
For a two-year deal.
If Dak's not taking a pay cut, the aesthetic on that?
It is when you first see it.
It's like, hmm.
I don't know if I hate that.
Okay.
And Joy, you and I have sat on this set.
We've seen crazy stuff happen.
We saw Kauai and Paul George both go to the Clippers.
We came on the air that day.
That came out of nowhere.
Peyton Manning to Denver.
Kevin Durant to Golden State.
Yesterday, Mookie Betts is the second best player in baseball to Mike Trout.
He's a Dodger.
Boston let him go.
It's entirely possible.
And, I mean, with tax,
contract situation, it can literally be done.
Brady's asking for 30.
If Dakwan's 38, I'm not doing it.
By the way, what does Brady want, by the way?
He'll have a veteran head coach, a Grado line, top running back in weapons.
His knock, Brady's knock is New England.
I want a little more money.
Get me weapons.
New England doesn't have a history of acquiring weapons.
Jerry, for all his faults, Dallas always has weapons.
This is a very, you and I have talked about this.
San Francisco and Dallas have the two best 25 and under rosters in the league.
What they need is maturity, gravitas.
You think it's, I don't think.
No, this would be, I mean, this would be anarchy.
I would surrender part of my contract for this to happen.
I would go to my bosses.
Here, I'll chip in.
I mean, you wouldn't need to.
I would move to show to Dallas.
Can you imagine what the ratings would be for Cowboys games has happened?
And again, I love Jack.
Like, I think they should pay Jack.
But this is anarchy.
Oh, my God.
This is almost a sin.
It should actually be illegal for us to make that edit.
I mean, just think about this.
How big was LeBron to the Lakers?
And we kind of knew that was coming.
I mean, how big was LeBron to Miami?
And we kind of knew that that was a possibility also.
But when it actually happened.
It was a three-year story.
It changed the course of the NBA forever.
Not just the course from a marketing standpoint.
It was the only story for three years.
Everything else was overwhelmed by it.
Brady's a free agent.
He wants two years at 30.
Dallas no state taxed tons of weapons.
If Dak is asking for 37,
this is not nuts.
And Jerry is the best marketer
in this league.
Look at that picture.
It should even got more handsome
in a cowboy uniform.
It should be illegal. Yes. That's not.
It's...
By the way, Aikman in a Jags uniform.
Yeah, it's awful. Can we not do that?
I don't want to see that one again.
Honestly, that should be an FCC violation.
You cannot put that over the air.
Troy Akeman and Jags uniform.
This optics, I'm just telling you.
I think it was blinding.
All right.
Greg CoSell is going to wrap it all up.
Rick Buecker as well.
I love what Nick Wright said about Zion.
Top 30 player in the league.
And Nick watches every NBA game.
I mean, he goes home at night,
eats his chicken parm and watches 13 NBA games.
If he's saying it, he's probably right.

Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, a couple of minutes. We'll have Greg CoSell wrap up the 49ers and the Chiefs. Just give you some thoughts. I went to dinner last night with a buddy of mine who's a Niners fan. He said, I'd love to hear CoSell today.
whose fault, what happened, and nobody talks NFL objectively as well as Greg Cosell.
Joy Taylor is joining me. Joy, how are you?
And great.
So our job in the media is, my I've always felt my job is to add context.
Your fans, short for fanatic, fans go crazy.
My job is to come in here and say, okay, I don't care who wins, this is what I saw.
We're not supposed to act like drunk fans.
USA Today acted like a drunk fan this morning.
Their headline, the Niners should consider trading Jimmy Garoppolo.
All right. Let me add some context and not be a drunk fan.
Jimmy G. 20 to 31, 220 yards, completed 64.5% of his throws. His pass rating was 70.
If Jimmy G completes the pass to Emmanuel Sanders, not only is the MVP of the Super Bowl, his pass rating is 90.
He throws for 270 yards, 2-2Ds, two picks, and outplay as Mahomes. Gets. gets the MVP.
San Francisco's 4 and 20 since Kyle Shanahan arrived without him.
They got to the Super Bowl with him and you want to trade him.
Come on now.
So let's just take out.
Like if I had a great, great show but a lousy last four minutes,
would it be a terrible show?
Would I be a terrible host?
You're allowed to have bad quarters.
Mahomes had three of them in the Super Bowl.
If you take Jimmy Garapolo's entire regular season,
his entire postseason and three of the four quarters in the Super Bowl.
Here are his numbers this year.
69% completion rate, pass a rating of 101, two touchdowns for every pick.
That's a top 10 quarterback in the league.
And you want to trade him because he stunk for six minutes.
It should be noted, Chris Jones is great.
outside of Bosa, the best defensive lineman in the game,
hard to block, batted down a pass.
Should be noted, he had a completion of George Kittle,
called PI, that would have helped.
He also had a ball over the middle
that was a pass interference on the Chiefs
that wasn't called. They eventually scored.
A couple little breaks didn't go his way,
and he missed badly on a wide open, deep throw.
But we're supposed to add context in the media.
Fans can be drunk and crazy
and trade this bum and give this guy a zillion dollars.
Jimmy G. is not Patrick Mahomes.
But if you take out the fourth quarter of his season in one game,
70% completion, passerating over 100, I'll take it.
That's better than what I'm getting from DAC and you're outraged.
They don't want to pay him 35 million.
For the record, Jimmy G's only making about 27 million,
which seemingly every other week that feels more reasonable and more reasonable.
Mahalms may get up to 40.
He'll be making 27, so he's not an outrageous number.
So let's slow down.
He missed on that pass deep.
No question and deserves criticism and did not play well in the fourth.
And I'm not saying we know he's not a top two or three guy in the league.
But you better have answers if you're going to move off 69% completion rate
and a pass a rating of 101.
You better have answers.
I mean, maybe Tommy Brady's knocking on the door outside the facility, okay?
Maybe that's the point.
But I think we'll just take a deep breath on this stuff.
With that 40 years NFL films, I went to dinner last night with my buddy Eric,
big Niners fan.
He goes, get Co-Sel on.
I want answers on this.
So, Greg, let's start with this.
Patrick Mahomes did struggle, I thought, in the first three quarters.
It was fairly visible and obvious.
Was it just a matter of pressure?
What did you see?
I also think he missed some throws that we normally expect him to make.
and that he normally makes. He just missed some throws. And you know what? Sometimes that happens.
We just not used to seeing Mahomes do that. I think there were as pressure at times.
You know, I think the 49ers had a distinct plan. They decided to play a lot of split safety,
as I think we talked about leading up to the game. They played a lot of what we call cover four,
and they locked the boundary. By that, I mean they played man to man to the boundary receiver.
And cover four is a really good coverage to play. It's a matched coverage concept.
that allows your safeties to be involved in the run game.
So it helps you in the past game.
It takes away a lot of seam throws,
and it also helps your safeties be involved in the run game.
And I think it was effective.
And obviously you play that if you feel really comfortable with your down four, and they did.
By the way, as we're watching this video, you forget how many bad throws he made.
He made a lot of bad throws.
He just missed throws.
I mean, we're just not used to seeing him do that because he doesn't miss too many,
but he missed a bunch in this game that were there.
Now, what changed in the fourth quarter for Patrick?
Well, I think he obviously made throws, but then you get to some of the big plays in the game, obviously.
And we'll get to the Hill 44-yarder.
That will be the play.
But that was obviously the game-changing play.
And it was a play that they actually ran in the AFC championship game last year against the Chiefs.
And he hit – excuse me, against the Patriots.
And he hit Hill on that play for, I believe, 42 yards.
And it was the only completion to Hill in that AFC championship.
championship game a year ago, but it was the same play.
And then the Watkins 38-yarder was obviously another big play, and that was a really good
throw.
And they caught Sherman playing a locked man coverage, and Watkins beat Sherman.
So he made the quarter when they had to be made.
Now, Jimmy G., I thought, played like Jimmy G for three quarters, not spectacular, but moved
the chains.
I thought he outplayed Mahomes often for the first three.
Is he getting beaten up a little too much because 70% of the game, he's not?
he kind of played to his level.
Well, I think the 49ers offense did exactly what they intended to do,
and throughout three quarters for sure.
I mean, through three quarters, Garoppolo was 11 for 12 on play action with a touchdown.
I think through three quarters, he was 17 for 20 overall.
They played 49er football.
They scored on four of their first six possessions,
and depending on one's view of the past interference on Kittle,
you could have argued that they would have scored on five of them.
of their first six possessions.
So they played 49er football.
That's what their offense is.
You know, the question going forward for Kyle Shanahan,
and I think Kyle does a great job,
and then we'll get to the fourth quarter in a sec,
is whether their past game can operate independently of their run game.
And I think that's something they'll probably talk about in the offseason and work on.
You know, I think you have to remember that this was Jimmy Garoppolo's first year as a starter.
Yes.
First full season where he played every game.
My sense is maybe I'm really.
wrong, Colin, that getting to the Super Bowl in your first year as a full-time starter,
to me, that's pretty good.
I'm kind of struggling with the idea of, well, they got to replace Jimmy G. He's not the guy.
You know, it was his first full year as a starter. I think that's pretty good.
You know, there's a lot of criticism on Shanahan for not running the football,
but there's a lot of different ways to run it. I thought they ran it enough, did you?
Oh, sure. To me, that narrative is pointless. That just, you know, figures in, I don't
why people are talking about that.
But, you know, look, Jimmy G.
missed a couple of things in the fourth quarter.
Obviously, everybody talks about the long pass to the deep post.
That's a throw you must make.
But actually, the bigger throw was third and five with 523 remaining in the fourth quarter.
It was the throw that came right after Jones knocked down the pass to Kittle, who was
wide open, by the way.
It was the very next play.
And Garapolo got locked on to Bourne and did not see Kittle, who was with
in the progression, same side of the field, right in his sight line, Kittle was wide open.
Not only would have been a first down, but Kittle had room to run because it was manned coverage.
And if he had just, if he had made that throw, the game would have been over because Kittle would
have gained 25 yards, maybe more, because Kittle in the open field, you never know.
But that was third and five with the 523 remaining in the fourth quarter.
The chiefs went man, Neiman, the linebacker ended up rushing, but it was what we call a green dog.
was not part of the pressure.
He rushed because he was part of coverage on the back, and the back went away so he could
rush.
But that's a throw Garapolo had to make.
It was something he had to see.
He had to see Kittle open within his progression.
Kyle Shanahan gets beat up, but let's be positive here.
What did you?
Because ever some things I loved Shanahan did, I thought the first half was a coaching clinic
in creative looks.
What did he do, Shanahan, that you actually loved?
Well, we talked about this before that when they get Samuel involved in the run game, that's not a gimmick for them.
That's just building off their basic run concepts.
And that's what they did.
And I think they did it twice in the first half once in the third quarter.
They ran their offense.
You know, I don't know what people expect.
That's their offense.
They're not a drop back and toss it all over the yard offense.
They're a play action, pass game offense.
They run the ball.
They have a very multiple run game.
They do a lot of different things, a lot of different look.
and that's what their offense is.
And they're very, you know, in some ways it's an offense that's not really big play-ish.
It's just consistent with what they do.
That's what they are.
They did the same thing in the fourth quarter.
You know, it's easy to say they should have run the ball.
There was one first down play where they ran the ball.
They gained one yard.
I don't hear people talking about that play.
You know, they just ran their offense.
And again, you're playing a team that we know can score quickly.
Yeah.
So, you know, there was a lot of time left.
You just have to play football.
You've got to score.
Yeah, that was my takeaway.
I said this yesterday.
Joy and I talked about it.
I went to my Twitter account after the game.
When they got the ball with five minutes left, I went on social media and said they better not get conservative here.
No.
You better throw the football.
You know, years ago, Belichick went for it deep in his own territory and he was facing Peyton Manning.
You know, after the game, Belichick's like, you know, I don't do that if I'm not facing Peyton Manning.
Mahomes forces you to be more aggressive as Brett Farve did.
This is the reality of sports.
Now, I do want to talk about Nick Bosa.
I don't remember a rookie defensive lineman this influential.
I really, I covered Warren Sapp.
This was not Warren Sapp.
I thought Bosa was fantastic.
Your thoughts, Greg?
Yeah, I do too.
And Bosa is a really good player.
You know, it's so funny how every year we talk about defensive linemen in the draft
and how, you know, their generational talents.
You know, we have a generational talent every year, it seems.
Doesn't it seem to work that way, Colin?
You know, this year the generational talent is Chase Young.
But Boas is such a really good player.
I love the way he uses his hands.
I think he understands leverage as well as any young player could possibly understand leverage.
And he's a lot more athletic and explosive than I think he's given credit for.
Yeah.
I'm watching this here.
He does use his hands great.
Really, really well.
I mean, he just wrecks plays.
I mean, he is just, he wrecks plays.
Okay, let's give us your big play.
Wrap it up, Greg, your big play.
Well, it's a 44-yard completion to Hill, which really was the game-changer.
So let's start it right now and just run the play.
And obviously, you know, this was the game-changing play on 3rd and 15.
You have to get off the field here if you're the 49ers.
They have a really good defense.
You've got to get off the field.
So what happened on this play is, first of all, they lined up with two tight ends on 3rd and 15.
Very, very surprising.
But they wanted a chip and protect.
Then they had Hill and Watkins as number 2 and number 1.
to the three-receiver side. They're both going to run vertical routes. Now, this is important.
Now, the 49ers, much of the game had played with split safety coverage. That's what it looks like right now.
But what they're ultimately going to do is a single high safety coverage. And this particular route concept worked really well against cover three.
Now, it would have worked against split safety as well. But what you're going to get, keep your focus on Watkins and Hill.
They're both running vertically. So what Watkins does on his route on the outside,
is he eats up the corner.
The corner has to stay with him.
He's responsible for the deep third.
Watkins is running vertically.
So now you get Hill matched on a safety.
Looks like he's running the deep post.
So the safety moves that way.
But no, he bends back and runs the deep sail or deep corner route,
and there's no one in the deep third
because the corner had to be locked low on Watkins' vertical route.
So it was a great play call.
As I mentioned, they ran this against the Patriots last year,
It was a great play concept against a coverage that they had kind of seen all game.
Great stuff.
And the guy that can deliver it with the arm, Patrick Mahomes.
Greg is always great stuff.
Wrapped up the Super Bowl.
Thanks, my man.
Hi, Con.
Appreciate it.
Thanks.
Coming up next, Sixers have a problem.
You got to make a tough decision.
You got to split up Simmons and Embed.
And I'll tell you why.
There's one clear choice and the numbers will prove it.
That's coming up.

The greatest day in all of racing returns.
The Daytona 500 kicks off the 2020 NASCAR season,
February 16th on Fox.
By the way, Rick Buecker later this hour,
one of my favorite guys, FS1 guy, NBA season.
Now, NFL season over.
we're trying to add some context to the Super Bowl.
The trade Jimmy Garoppolo stuff is just moronic.
Just so stupid.
If you take his whole season outside of the fourth quarter, he's a Pro Bowl-level quarterback.
Like, folks, take a deep breath.
You know, he missed a couple of throws.
I love how Greg Kosel showed that George Kittled play underneath.
It was there.
He missed it.
It happens.
He made a bad read.
Okay, let's trade him.
Don't get it.
So in the NBA, a lot of you don't watch it until the football season is over.
Some of you don't watch it, period.
Here's the Eastern Conference.
Milwaukee is easily the best team.
They're the deepest.
They're the clippers of the East.
They're the deepest team.
They have the best player.
They've got a tremendous coach.
They've got multiple scores.
Not every team in this league plays real defense.
They do on a nightly basis.
And they're unbeatable at home.
That it's Toronto, Boston, Miami, Indie, Philly, Brooklyn, Orlando.
Huh?
How's Philadelphia sixth?
Only 11 above 500.
Because Philadelphia's got a problem.
They've got two stars.
They don't like each other.
And they don't mix.
It doesn't work.
Embedde is imperfect.
Super talented, little like Baby Shack, but he gets hurt a lot.
Ben Simmons is a little like magic.
610 point guard, but he can't shoot at all.
But earlier this season, when Ambide was out for about eight games,
there was clear evidence what happens to Ben Simmons when Embedde's not there.
He's in a better mood and he gives you 22, 9 and 9.
that's an all-star.
This league is about availability.
Ben Simmons is younger than Embeded.
He doesn't get hurt as much.
He does something top five in the league.
He gets the ball to shooters.
Embeddead clogs up the lane for him.
You can get more for Embed because Embeddeds considered the greater talent.
That's fine.
That means I can get more of a hall form at the trading deadline.
Sports is about trying to get great players.
But if they don't work together, and these two don't like each other, and it doesn't work, you've got to make a choice.
Ben Simmons, when Embed doesn't play, plays with more energy, signals to you, this is what I am when the big fella's out.
And what I am is 22, 8 and a half and 9.
That's an all-star.
He's not a great shooter, but he can finish at the rim.
He can be highly efficient in field goal percentage.
trade M-B'd, get picks and guys who can shoot and spread the floor.
This isn't working.
The West is loaded.
The East has about four legitimate teams.
Philadelphia right now is only ahead of Brooklyn.
That's a mess and mostly mediocre Orlando.
It doesn't work.
Own it.
Like Kansas City had Alex Smith.
They were winning.
They're like, it's not good enough.
They moved to Mahomes.
Baltimore was winning.
Joe Flacko.
It's not good enough.
They moved on Lamar.
Hardest person to be honest.
honest to is yourself.
Philadelphia.
Doesn't work.
They don't like each other.
They're both flawed.
Take the one that you can get the most for.
Trade him, elevate Simmons,
surround him with shooters.
That feels right to me.
Gotta be honest with yourself.
Joy with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Sponsored by Mercedes-Benz,
the best or nothing.
Well, someone who is doing it right is LeBron James.
He put on the show last night.
Lakers won 129-102 over the Spurs.
I was there.
He was on fire in the fourth quarter,
hitting five straight three-pointers to steal the win.
He finished the game with a,
we finished with a game high, 36 points,
along with seven rebounds and nine assists.
Anthony Davis also had 18 points and five rebounds.
And Kyle Coosma had 18 points, 12 rebounds.
And four assists.
How is the crowd?
It was good.
I mean, it was like a regular game,
regular like, you know, middle of the week,
Laker game, excited.
But, you know, I mean, they crushed them.
So it really never felt like, you know, the Spurs were really in it.
To me, anyway.
LeBron also won the Western Conference Player of the Month for January,
the 39th Player of the Month award, which is the most of all time.
Lakers are in first place in the West.
I kind of agree with you, though, all this talk about possibly trading Kuzma.
Just even watching the game last night, he is a little bit of an energy guy.
And having that.
Having that youth late into the playoffs is going to be valuable.
Joy, think about the Western Conference playoffs this year.
These are not going to be sweeps.
Right.
Utah's a real team. Denver's a real team. I think Houston, you know, who knows if they're better? Clippers are real. Lakers are real. Dallas is the kind of offense that can knock you out of a game. Portland. I mean, again, Portland could make a move with the trading deadline. I just don't think it's a... I mean, even the Thunder and the Grizzlies.
And I think the Blazers are going to pick it up after the all-star break as well.
And they've kind of been up and down throughout the season.
So, yeah, I agree with you.
I mean, the East is better than the West right now.
Like, if you're looking at the standings and wins, they are better than the West right now.
So, yeah, and this is not going to be an easy run to the Western Conference finals for
LeBron and the Lakers.
I think you need some youth, especially when we talk about all the time, how deep the Clippers are.
I don't know.
I just, I don't know if I love that move for them.
Clippers have a nice mix of young and old.
The Lakers trade Kuzma.
It's just old.
that's all it is.
It's Danny.
I love it.
And listen,
LeBron is obviously playing
amazing.
Anthony Davis,
we know what he is.
But I do think those role players
are going to be important
later into the season.
So Julian Edelman has made it very clear.
He wants Tom Brady to stay with the Patriots next season.
He posted a picture with his face on John Cusack from say anything,
holding the stereo over his head with the caption,
Baby, come back.
I don't know if Tom's going to weigh this into his decision or not.
But it does kind of add to.
a little bit of the story because I do find it weird
what Tom Brady is doing, how he's playing this.
Because if he does end up coming back to New England's,
I don't know that all of this like,
the subtle posting of the Hulu commercial before,
because like whether that was,
obviously we know it was a Super Bowl commercial,
but he also knew what he was doing in posting that.
And so did Hulu, obviously,
that's why they wanted him to do it that way.
But to kind of drag it out with New England
after all this time and then ask for more,
more money. It just, it feels like that's not the way you would want to go out after after being such
a team guy for all these years. And, you know, Edelman and him are obviously very close and that's,
you know, that's his guy. So there's the element of that as well. Like, I feel like if you were just
going to, going to leave, not that he needs to make a decision right now, but you knew what it was.
Like, you weren't in the Super Bowl. You've had a couple, a couple weeks to sort this out and talk to
teams and see what's going on. Does it feel not, not weird to you? Yeah, I mean, it's just not as
smooth as I'd like it to be.
It's less smooth as Tom Brady usually is.
They feel like the San Antonio Spurs that, you know, they won that last title in Miami with an older Duncan.
And that was it.
And the further Duncan got out of his prime, the less fearful everyone was.
New England's not a Super Bowl team next year.
They're good, but they're just not athletic enough.
They don't, you watch how the game is changing.
You watch these Kansas cities and these Baltimore's, San Francisco.
This is a great receiver draft.
What if one of these two?
What if Baltimore adds another receiver?
You know, what if, what if, you know, I just, you look at some of these teams that are dynamic that have a history.
Pittsburgh has a history of drafting receivers.
It's the deepest receiver draft.
What if Pittsburgh gets more dynamic?
What if the jets land somebody?
Buffalo.
I just, I just don't think they're a championship team.
San Antonio after that Miami championship, they always made the playoffs.
They could beat anybody on a night, but you never knew.
You never thought they could win a series of competitive series against top younger.
But you saw what Tom Brady posted this morning.
He's not going to wear a blazer to a Super Bowl again.
So he still believes he's got that in him.
People believe all sorts of stuff.
You can believe all.
I mean, I love Tom.
You can believe all sorts of stuff.
They need three more dynamic players in office.
At least.
So finally, the Chiefs are having their championship parade in Kansas City today.
But Travis Kelsey got the party started early on the flight home from Miami.
He posted a video.
on Instagram of him drinking beer off of the Lombardi Trophy.
Ah, the Lombardi Luge.
Yes, that's what he called.
He said growing up, he played hockey, and he always wanted to drink out of the Stanley Cup,
so he made up his own Lombardi Luge.
The crowds were out there at 4 a.m. this morning.
There was already a crowd for the parade in Kansas City.
It's very cold there.
I'm not exactly, I'm pretty, yeah, so it's snowing, yeah.
I think it's, I want to say it's 18 degrees.
We're showing some video of Mahomes and Kelsey.
I was thinking about this.
You know how we always worry that the big markets have all the stars.
So our college football powers are in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Tuscaloosa, Clemson.
Our NFL champion is in Kansas City.
Our NBA champs from Canada.
Right.
I mean, it's just funny.
I look at the NFL going forward.
It's a lot of these small markets have the best structures and the best young
quarterbacks.
I mean, I don't necessarily think that it needs to be.
I mean, the NFL is not really a big free agency sport anyway.
So it doesn't need to be that.
And Kauai didn't go there in free agency.
So, you know, Toronto went all in and it worked out for them.
But I'm really happy for Kansas City.
I'm sure that parade is a good time right now.
We'll have some more video of it later.
All right.
Good stuff. Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Hurdline News.
Rick Bueker in about 7, 8 minutes.
Can't wait to chew in a bunch.
I love having Bukes on the show.
And he's just got all sorts of NBA stuff.
So there's a story out today.
There's got a lot of stories as we segue into NBA,
segue into mock draft stuff and free agency stuff.
You know, I'm into that stuff.
A little bit of a nerd.
A lot of bit of a nerd.
There's a lot of stories about Joe Burrow and Cincinnati.
And I saw a story today.
People are suggesting they could trade and get four or five picks.
Let's just get past this.
Joe Burrell's going to Cincinnati.
I don't know who's going to get drafted after that.
I think Chase Young, Joe Burrell's going to Cincinnati.
He's an Ohio kid.
They need a quarterback.
He's off a historic season.
And he's a good prospect.
He's a good prospect.
I don't think he's Trevor Lawrence.
I don't think maybe he's Justin Fields.
It's a good prospect.
He's better, to me, he's a better prospect than Baker Mayfield.
Baker Mayfield, what, number one, he's a bigger.
I think he's got a better, a little more maturity, a little better size.
I think he's a little more athletic.
He was an all-state basketball player.
So he's an absolute.
I don't know if he's a number one.
one pick, but he's going to go number one.
He's very talented.
But when I predict how quarterbacks are going to do, I should probably just wait to see who
they're drafted by.
Remember this.
He just went from one of the three most talented college football programs on an annual
basis, LSU, and he's now going to Cincinnati.
Outside of Miami, there's not a worst roster in this league.
they have a bottom three owner in Cincinnati, a bottom two roster, an unproven head coach,
in a division where Baltimore had 13 pro bowlers, Pittsburgh had six, and Cleveland had three,
should have had four.
Joe Burrell's going to struggle in the NFL.
He doesn't have talent around him.
At LSU, he arguably, well, not even arguably this year, had the most talent, the most talent, to now the second least talent,
with an unproven coach and a bad owner.
The truth of the matter is,
Joe Burrow, in my opinion,
is not gifted enough to overcome Cincinnati's issues.
This is the exact thing I said
when Baker Mayfield got drafted.
Baker's a franchise quarterback.
He's not gifted enough to overcome Cleveland.
He's on his, what, fourth coach in three years?
His third full-time coach.
Burroughs better than Baker.
You know, he's not as gifted as,
say like a Cam, who was the number one pick.
He's not Andrew Luck.
I don't think he's Carson Went, but he's better than Baker.
He's somewhere in between.
But when you talk about these quarterbacks, we just saw it this year.
Josh Allen with an excellent Buffalo staff grew slowly, gradually, and nicely.
Lamar Jackson, with a really great staff and GM, grew quickly and successfully.
Baker in Cleveland, Darnold with the Jets, struggled.
There's no consistency top down.
So when I look at Burrow, if I'm making a prediction, my prediction is he's going to a lousy franchise with no good players and I think he'll struggle.
I mean, in games, I think Justin Herbert is going to go to the Chargers or the Colts or the Raiders who have better players.
So if you're asking me the prediction on wins, Justin Herbert may not be as good as Burrow.
But the Chargers have two receivers, a great tight end, a good back or three, really good pass rushers.
A lot of my predictions on this stuff is simply comes down to where are they going?
I mean, we've signed it the last two years.
Jimmy Garoppolo's had New England and San Francisco.
Think it's helped a little?
Think Kirk Cousins is helped a little by the front office of the Vikings that drafts the hell out of this league every year?
I feel, you know, I've said this.
He's going number one, but I think Burl's going to have a tough time trying to overcome a dysfunctional organization.
Because I don't think he's that gifted to overcome it.
Better than Baker, but there's a lot of dysfunction in Cincinnati.
Owner down, a lot of dysfunction, and nobody knows if Zach Taylor can coach.
He could, he may.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Rick Buecker, thoughts on Zion last night.
Nick Wright said he's a top 30 player.
It's the NBA trade deadline.
Tomorrow I think it's the deadline.
We'll talk about that.

Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
and we're still chasing it
and we don't know when we've done enough
because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns, Dustin Ross,
because you find it important to be a good person
while you hear on earth?
Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.

We're in the middle of a game.
This linebacker, this linebacker walks up to me.
He goes, hey, ref, my mom wants you to wave at her.
What?
Time out.
Quarterback on office blue with 42.
Hey, ref, mom.
I want you to wave at her.
What?
Where's she at?
Hey, Miss Parker.

Please!
But there's so much more to me than me.
I'm an actor.
I'm a comedian.
And recently, I've become quite the helper myself.
And on my new podcast, Hope from a Hypocrite, I'll be changing lives, helping people in need with my sage advice and thoughtful solutions.

I love having Bukes on the show.
Someday you and I should do a podcast together, just you and I can just sit and talk to you.
Remember the air day I called you for 45 minutes?
Yes.
About my stupid theory about the G League.
And I had things to do.
But I couldn't get out the phone.
Yes.
No, we definitely should.
Rick Buecker, Bleacher Report, other places.
Buker and friends cover the NBA since the early 90s.
So I watched Zion last night.
Listen, when you're 19 years old, you know, you don't maybe eat the right way.
I look at him and I think to myself, he doesn't, he's not in great shape.
No, he's not.
And what is shocking is that the Pelicans have.
had all these months to get him into shape after two injuries, like getting the weight off and keeping
him light. What is it? Lower, like, he's from the South and he's, as you said, he's 19 years old.
That's, I mean, I literally, I said, what is, what's the deal with someone in the organization? Is it
he's got a slow metabolism or is it his diet? He said, he's 19. I'll just leave it at that.
So that's what it is.
And I've seen plenty of of players who have to learn how to eat better.
There's no question.
You're in college and now he's in the pros.
You finally make money.
You see those steakhouses.
And he's in New Orleans.
I mean, that's not the place where you're going to find a lot of, you know,
locale.
Vegan options.
Absolutely not.
So it's understandable.
But what is dangerous?
I mean, it's fun to talk about.
he's had two, he's a number one pick, he's had two serious injuries, and he's already built
heavier than the rest of us. If you or I eat badly at 19, okay, well, so what? We're not
playing 82 games and whatever, but he's 6-6-280, and he's carrying an extra 10, 15, 20 pounds
with knees that have already suffered some damage. That's where it gets very tricky.
Okay, I said this. The NBA has always been about in the playoffs,
They swallow the whistle.
It helps veteran players, guys who have been in a wait room for eight years.
It gets very physical in the postseason.
More so, yes.
Generally speaking.
You got these Andre Aguadalas and you got Draymond Greens and there's young kids.
They just swallow whistles.
And so Kyle Kuzma is not going to lead the Lakers anywhere.
But he's their last pair of young legs.
It's 26 minutes.
You're at the game last night, Joy.
There's a little juice.
You trade Kyle Kuzma.
LeBron now, Anthony Davis is dinged when he's healthy.
Yes.
Like, I don't like this move.
Would you trade?
He's their only pair of young legs?
I would trade him if I could get a veteran that could contribute right now.
If we're talking of Marcus Morris type,
and the biggest problem is in making any kind of a deal is that Kyle is on his rookie deal.
He only makes $1.9 million.
Who are you going to trade?
him for that is going to be appreciably better talent-wise that is only making 1.9 million.
There aren't any veterans out there that you say have playoff experience and are going to
come in. So now you have to aggregate it. As soon you have to start to aggregate players,
now it gets even more difficult. So getting somebody who's better than Kuzma for the price,
the market's tiny. It doesn't work. But if I could get a Marcus Morris, I would do that in
heartbeat because the time is now.
And Kuzma's never played in the postseason.
So you can have young legs all you want and you can look good in a game that's a blowout
game where, look, hitting threes and going to him when you're up by 12, 14, 16 doesn't
nearly, in the regular season, doesn't nearly replicate the pressure of a playoff situation
where now you're down by three or you're up by one.
and now we need a bucket.
Cous, go see what you can get.
I've seen him in those situations in the regular season,
and I've seen DeAngelo Russell basically defend him and stop him.
That can't happen.
You know, when the season started, LeBron James said,
I can't wait, Anthony's going to have to lead this team.
And I've watched this team.
It's LeBron's team.
And Anthony Davis, in the last two years,
the longest stretch he's played without an injury is 17 games.
and when I watch him and he's playing, there's always nagging stuff.
You know, as much as we think Anthony Davis is formidable, this is still LeBron's team, right?
He's, Anthony Davis is more formidable this year than I've ever seen him.
This is as good as I've seen him.
I don't care what the numbers say.
He has been more effective at both ends.
He's been more dominant in situations.
But to your point, whenever he does get dinged up in a game, he doesn't just go down and maybe go to the bench.
He goes to the locker room and he's gone for a quarter and then he might come back.
And even now, they've played 49 games.
He's missed seven games.
Like, that's a, and this feels like a relatively healthy season for him, right?
So this was the problem that I saw for the Lakers from the very beginning was that they were going to have to lean heavy on LeBron.
N-A-D. And those guys were in the regular season. Yes. And they were going to have to stay healthy from beginning to end without loss. And that's where the Clippers just have all this luxury. Like Paul George wants to take a couple games off. Doesn't matter. We can win. Quay Leonard wants to take a couple games off. We can win like Lou Williams, whatever it is. They just have that luxury of being able to get through without having all hands on deck. The Lakers are simply not in that position. And,
And this is the challenge.
And you can't trade Kuzma for a guy who's going to add to that nucleus equation when it comes to the postseason.
Rick Buecker joining us.
All right.
Listen, Embedd's imperfect.
He gets hurt.
Instagram star.
Simmons is imperfect.
He can't shoot and doesn't have any real interest to shoot.
But there is a shack quality to Embed and there is a magic quality to Simmons that a 610 point who gives you 28, 8, and 8 on the night's Embedde's been off this year.
Right.
It doesn't work.
It's not ideal.
I've been told they don't like each other.
Simmons is often a much better, more productive player
when Embed's not on the floor.
He needs a clear lane because he can't shoot
and he's lethal scoring at the rim.
Simmons is also very good at getting the ball to shooters.
He's also a moody player who when Embedith is out,
it's almost as if he's signaling,
hey, this is what I can do when the big fella's out of town.
He's a very moody player.
He goes up and down on effort.
To me, you've got to split him up.
I keep Simmons younger healthier.
If we tagged Ben Simmons not as a point guard, but as a power forward, a wing guard,
like what do they call it a point forward?
Right.
But let's just say, because what he really is is he's a power forward.
You want him playing below the free throw line.
If he's a power forward, you're not worried about his three-point shooting as much.
Today's game, everybody's supposed to shoot a three.
And then you would look at it and go, you know, our greatest strength is,
at the two power positions. That doesn't work.
We need to fix this if you
looked at it that way. But people keep thinking it can
work because Ben Simmons is
labeled as a point guard.
He's not. What they need is a
point guard. Mike Conley, Utah, do they need him
now? That
would work. Mike Conley.
Derek Rose. Derek Rose would
work. Derek Rose would work.
And largely because
of what Derek told me about the
New York situation. He said the New York
situation for him was good.
because he learned to play without the ball.
Playing with Carmelo and Porzingis,
it was a struggle for him at first,
but he figured out how to be able to do that.
So that would work.
But yes, Mike Connolly would also as a,
and it would be easier for him.
Connolly's problem in Utah is they have one of the most complicated offenses
in the league.
And so coming in there and being effective right away for a guy like Connolly,
he's still having to think through everything.
Sure.
And you can't, for the level that the Utah Jazz want to play and the expectations for Conley, it's a struggle.
And it's going to be a struggle when he gets there, who knows?
Now, what do NBA people think about?
I like Simmons.
I understand the limitations.
But I come down to a 22, 8, and 8 player.
Because I do believe Simmons can be moody.
We heard that in college.
And I do think with Embed, there are nights, he just shuts it off.
He's not in a good mood.
But when Embeddead is gone, Simmons says, okay, this is what I'll do.
give you if I run
the team and it's 29, 9, and 9.
What do your scouts say? What did
GMs and executives say on Simmons?
Have people, have some bailed on him because
his inability to even
attempt to shoot? It's the personality.
It's that indifference. It's that
I don't know what I'm going to get
on a nightly basis. And you're
saying this is going to be the leader of my team?
No, thank you.
Everybody knows how talented he is.
But the fact that
Janus has developed a three-point shot,
Like, there are other guys in the league who have developed a three-point shot in the same time.
Derek Rose has improved his three-point shot.
Ben Simmons hasn't come.
Lonzo Ball has transformed his three-point shot.
What's ball shooting threes this year?
He really has.
Shout out to Fred Vincent, by the way, who's their shooting coach, done a remarkable job with Lonzo Ball.
But Ben Simmons is not taking them.
It looks like he doesn't care or doesn't.
want to. Who knows why, but that's what scares teams about building around him. M. Bede is looked at
as still being immature, but you can grow out of that. Zach Randolph was wildly immature.
Covered it. And then went to Memphis and grew up a little bit, and now you could play through him.
So if you're asking me which way teams would go, they see issues with both of them.
But M. Bid and his ability to dominate his position and the feeling that what holds him back,
is just a lack of maturity is why if you took a vote,
I believe that more would go on the side of MB.
All right, Rick Buecker, Fox Sports NBA analyst.
Houston made a trade.
Houston got rid of Clint Capella.
I should have asked you that when I ran out of time.
That was just a mistake by me as a bad broadcaster.
They're going to make another deal.
So we'll be able to talk about it.
Yeah, they have to.
All right.
They have no bigs.

Heard Eric Dickerson's a Hall of Famer over a decade in the NFL.
Six pro bowls and five-time all pro.
four different times led the NFL in rushing,
one of the all-time greats.
By the way, that Super Bowl,
that whole top 100 thing,
that legends thing before the game,
that was great.
Yeah, it's an honor.
I'll see that much.
It really is.
You felt, because it was great television.
Did you feel it?
When you were in the stadium,
you could see how cool it was?
You really can't see from the field.
It was amazing on TV.
No.
Oh, God, it was great.
The narrator did a great job,
the way they did it,
not introducing all 100 guys.
I'm like,
we're going to stand up and introduce 100 guys.
But they did it.
It was fantastic the way they did it, I think, on the score.
So I watched it on the screen.
So Jimmy G. had a bad fourth quarter and is getting just tagged by everybody.
What's your reaction to that?
Well, first of all, in sports, especially in football, you never blame one guy when you lose the game.
I mean, as a team, if you wouldn't ask the 49ers in the locker,
they said, man, this is a team lost.
We all lost the game together.
He didn't play great.
But my take before the game is I say, you let Jimmy Garapolo beat you.
You don't take running game, beat you.
You put the pressure on him to beat you and see if he can do it.
Because look, this is his first season, his first full season.
You know, he hadn't been in a Super Bowl before, an NFC championship game.
I mean, and they ran the football all the way to the Super Bowl.
That's what they did.
That's their MO.
So for me, you know, you can't, you can't beat him up over that.
I mean, I've been there.
I've been that guy that has had a bad playoff game, terrible playoff game.
And you ride yourself, I guarantee.
guarantee you when he left that game at night he couldn't sleep at night you can't sleep you can't
sleep for a couple of days you had three fumbles three fumbles 159 yards three fumbles the worst
game and you know collard it still bothers me and i can't go back and redo it but it still is still
was it road or home it was road it was so you had to get on a plane and come back to l a we played to
watchin redskins in the playoffs and it was and i never you know thing i never beat the redskins
ever my whole career and man and i said this is our opportunity i think we're better than them and
Do you remember the plane flight home?
Yeah, you just, you know, I mean, the plane flight, because you know, guys, you know, they're like, you know, it's over, you know, you just kind of forget about it.
You know, they don't forget about it, but, you know, I just couldn't let it go.
I just really couldn't let it go.
Because, you know, I'm just that kind of perfectionist like that.
I want to try to win and play the best I can all the time.
And I'm telling you, Jimmy G feels the same way.
I mean, it's frustrating because.
Last game of the year.
Can't make it up next Sunday.
You can't make a Super Bowl.
You can't make it up.
I mean, because you never know how.
If you're going to get back there, it's hard to come back to a Super Bowl.
This is first one, first Super Bowl, you know.
I heard a story out there.
I didn't see the video.
But after the loss that night, the Niners went out and partied.
It doesn't bother me because Shanahan came in and said, listen, I love you guys.
You played your butt off.
We lost.
I love you.
And I think there's a, hey man, we're young, we're going to get back.
The Niners apparently went out and partied hard.
Would that bother you?
No, not at all.
What's you going to do?
You have to let it go.
If you're partying, let's say you had a party,
and you know, you partying, drink, and all that kind of stuff,
that game is still playing in your head.
It's still playing over and over.
Somebody will say something, or you'll think about, man, if I did this,
when you go home at night, when you lay down,
you replay it over and over every play.
I'm telling you, you don't understand how frustrating it is.
And, you know, you have to do something to get away from it.
Yeah, yesterday I drove home.
a talk show host was just beside himself.
I cannot, and I thought, listen, man, if I have a, I mean, what do you do?
You're supposed to go home and show?
What are you supposed to do?
I mean, like, listen, if you go out and have a cocktail because it's like, we lost,
it stinks, but I want to be with my teammates and friends and, you know, they're pouring
crap for years.
Once in a lifetime situations to be in Miami for the Super Bowl, whether you win or you lose.
Like Eric said, you got to, you have to release your mind somehow.
I can hide out in their.
hotel rooms all night.
Yeah.
I mean, trust me, those guys are still playing that game in their head.
I mean, that's just how it is.
Hey, I want to ask you about this.
So it seems to me, well, it seems to everybody, the teams that are poorly run in the NFL
have mostly been poorly run since when you played.
I mean, seriously, what did you guys call the Bengals when you were playing?
They called the Bungles.
What about the Browns?
The clowns.
The Cleveland Clowns and the Cincinnati Bungles.
Okay.
So when we talk about Joe Brungles,
My takeaway is, oh, he's a franchise quarterback.
I don't think he can overcome them.
Listen, Carson Palmer is an all-time talent.
So what are your takeaway?
Joe Burgo's number one to Cincinnati.
Your reaction would be...
His career is done.
I mean, and I hate to say that, but it's just true to that.
I mean, this is a bad organization.
They've been bad from...
I mean, I retired in 1994.
They were cheap then.
And I came in 83.
They were bad things.
they never beat us.
Even when I was the coach, they never beat us.
I mean, you know,
and him being a young quarterback,
he's going to say all the right things.
You know, yeah, I want to go there.
I can turn it around and everything.
But the problem is that they won't put the players on the field that he needs.
They won't get the right guys there.
Guys don't want to come to Cincinnati or Dallas or Cincinnati, L.A.
Oh, I'll go to L.A.
I don't want to go to Cincinnati.
Hey, think about this.
And I say this, every time the Jets or the Browns fire a coach,
then you have to go find
the Bengals don't have elite
scouts. They don't have elite
because
they're the bungles.
Yes, and they're cheap.
So Cincinnati's reputation is
they're cheap, meaning they won't pay
their scouting director.
Meaning the top scouting directors
don't want to go work for them.
It doesn't mean they don't have some competent people.
They have drafted, but they had one pro bowler
last year.
What does that tell you about the scouting department?
I'm shocked.
You know, let me tell you, it starts at the top.
That's how it starts.
the very top and it runs down.
And Cincinnati, like I say,
and I think he's a great talent.
I really do. I mean, he's very talented.
But if he goes to Cincinnati,
now you hear me say this,
if it turns out great,
I will be the first to say,
man, he did it.
But I look at Carson Palmer.
I thought Carson Palmer was one of the best quarterbacks
to come out in year.
I say, man, I like him.
Big, got a great arm.
Scouts loved Carson Palmer.
If he would have went,
let's say he'd went to Dallas.
If he'd went to even in New York or New England,
something like that, I think we'd be talking about Carson Palmer different.
When you go to teams like Cincinnati,
how much talent you have, you've got to make it understand.
It's talent on the other side of the ball, too.
Those guys that play defense, they're talented also.
Yeah.
By the way, Adam Schaefters generally very accurate.
He said the Cowboys are thinking about the franchise tag.
If you were a running back and somebody said,
listen, we're going to franchise you.
Now, that means you're going to be paid top five
at your position in the market.
Would you be okay with that?
Well, now probably.
$50 or $20 million now.
You know, back then, no.
You know, I would have a running back position?
No.
Because I know how short that your longevity is.
Your life is not long as a running back.
You want to get that guaranteed money as a running back
because, you know, it could happen at any moment.
You know, a franchise tag is only one year.
You're going to get that year.
And if you get hurt that year, you're done.
So I would have to say no.
For a quarterback, totally different.
I mean, that's a whole different.
Because your career is going to last longer.
It's going to last a lot longer.
If you franchise a quarterback, I'm, I use Dak Prescott.
You franchise Dak Prescott?
I'm like, first of all, I think it's a slap in his face.
He deserves better, but boom.
I say, okay, cool.
I'm making $10 million off the field.
All right, and the new CBA comes up.
I'm probably good.
The franchise tax come up to be $33 million.
So if I make $43 million, no state tax.
No state tax?
You're set for life.
I'm cool with that.
In one year.
Yeah, I'm cool with that.
Because I'm thinking about it.
He hasn't had a big contract yet.
He deserves that contract, but I'm good with that.
Because playing for the Dallas Cowboys, being a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys does have value.
Let's make that play.
There's no quite.
He's getting yogurt commercials.
Every kind of commercial.
I mean, he's getting all kinds of commercials.
But he still wants to get paid for.
playing the sport that he plays and that's professional football.
That is interesting.
As a quarterback, you get franchise tag.
It's a different sensibility than a running back.
It's totally different.
You need your money when you need it.
You need that money because, I mean, all of a sudden, oh, he's dropped off.
You know, he had $1,800 last year, and now he had $800, 800 yards.
So now we got to get rid of him.
I was saying this earlier.
There's a reason nobody eats blue food because you eat with your eyes before you eat with your
mouth.
And that's why restaurants put so much time into good restaurants into what the food.
look like. There's a reason
that if you look around at
companies around the country, they spend so much money
on logos, airlines, what color
is the plane. Tom Brady,
first time he's been a free agent, wants 30 million.
Dak apparently says I want
38 million dollar quarterback.
Let me just show you a picture.
Brady and a cowboy.
You do realize that's five times
bigger than A-Rod to the Yankees.
You do realize it's several times
bigger than LeBron of the Lakers.
Am I nuts?
If Dak isn't going to budge.
I mean, the word is he wants over 35 million.
Is that nuts?
Eric, that looks right.
That looks wrong.
That looks wrong.
That looks all wrong.
I mean, no, he's going to be in that Patriots uniform till the end.
I mean, I told you this before.
him and Robert
Kraft are very tight
and the only way Tom
leaves that is he says
you know what I think that
I'm ready to go I want to I can't work
with Bill Belichick I want to go someplace else
if he wants to stay
he's going to be in that Patriots uniform and really
I think it's it's even good
for the league I mean it really is because
Tom Brady coming going to Dallas
going to come into San Diego going
to the Raiders
no uh-uh I mean I just got to I mean I'm
kind of like I see it. I mean, he's a patriot.
I mean, he got drafted
to the Patriots and he should stay a Patriot. The NBA
allows it stars more
mobility. Most definitely.
That's good for the player, usually.
NFL doesn't.
You're kind of locked in. But I do
think there's value in
Kansas City knowing I'm
nine years old. Mahomes is my quarterback
until I go to college. That's it.
No, I think there is a sense of
community in the NFL that
doesn't exist as much in the NBA.
Now, it empowers the individual player.
I'm happy for players to make money.
But I would say this.
You know, Kevin Durant's now, Oklahoma City, Golden State, Brooklyn.
Does anybody feel like he's their guy?
Like Mahomes is a chief forever.
He will be a chief, I think, forever.
And the same thing with Tom Brady.
Do you regret leaving?
Oh, of course.
I never wanted to leave the Rams.
I want to stay with the Rams.
The Rams, you know, man, look, they could treat us blitted.
like animals, because this was their motto.
This is the motto of a lot of general managers.
It's like a horse.
You open the gate, they're going to run.
So whatever you pay them, you know, we had no way out.
It was no franchise tag.
You know, they underpaid you, they laughed at you,
and you had no recourse.
So it was what it was.
It's like you play or you sit.
That was your choice.
You didn't want to leave the Rams up.
I did not want to leave Los Angeles.
Of course, you think I want to leave Los Angeles and go to Indianapolis?
Are you kidding me?
Absolutely not.
I mean, if I left, I wanted to go to the redskins
is where I really wanted to go.
They had a good old line.
Yeah, they wouldn't send me there.
They're like, oh, no, we ain't sending you there.
I mean, even when I look at myself in that uniform,
it still looks odd to me.
When I look at myself in the RAM uniform, I mean, I look, first of all of them.
I look good in any uniform.
But that RAMROMU.
I don't think you look terrible in that cult uniform.
God, you got the living, you know what kicked out of you.
Oh, my gosh, you don't even know.
Trust me, you don't even know.
Did they, did you play outdoors?
Was it playing outdoors?
No, it was inside.
Okay.
I was in Cleveland.
It was cold out there.
I hated that.
Oh, hell.
God.
Let's don't even go there.
All right.
Eric Dickerson Hall of Fame.
Good seeing you.
Joy with the news.
No.
No.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
So Kyle Kuzma has come up in a trade rumor for a few weeks now.
Yeah.
And the Lakers are poorly having talks with the New York Knicks.
Oh, Jesus.
About the third year forward.
But Kuzma is not thinking about.
what might happen next. He told Spectrum Sportsnet about his mindset going into the trade deadline.
I really don't care, honestly. I can't control it. You get traded, I get traded. Don't matter.
You know, I'm still going to play basketball. Still going to play the game I love.
Still going to get paid. You know, still going to just play the game. You know, it's what it is.
Now, he's obviously was involved with all the trade situations that was going on with Alonzo Ball and Ingram and all that.
he's seen firsthand how this time of year works.
So I don't think he has,
I don't have a problem with him saying that because there is no control that he has over the situation.
I will say, though, and we've talked about this a lot today,
I don't like the idea of them trading him.
He's very inexpensive right now.
I was there last night.
He's a big energy guy.
He's an athletic energy guy who caution nothing.
Cauts you nothing.
He can put up points.
He's got fresh legs always because he's young.
and they don't really have that much youth on that team
and going deep into the playoffs.
And I understand what Nick Wright was talking about earlier.
You know, he's still young.
You know, is his head in the right space?
Okay, but that's on LeBron and the Lakers to get him into that space.
Yeah, LeBron, get Coosman to the right space.
Right.
So that's a fixable situation if that is the issue.
But they're playing great right now.
I mean, they blew out the Spurs last night in front of a, you know, sold out Los Angeles
crowd.
Was Phil Jackson there?
I did not see Phil.
I saw Jeannie.
Hi, Jeannie.
I get along with Jeannie, by the way.
Phil hates me, but I get along with Jeannie.
He's wonderful.
I don't think that Phil hates you.
My wife said it was, oh, Colin Coward's her husband.
That's how she said it.
You've never been critical of Phil Jackson.
The New York thing was bad.
He kind of took a paycheck.
But I didn't care.
The Knicks are, I didn't think you should take the New York job because I thought at that age.
I thought it was silly.
But, you know, somebody offered.
The Knicks are still the Knicks.
They paid him 30.
They just fired Steve Mills.
they're looking to train Marcus Morris.
He tried to get Steve Kerr.
And Steve Kerr's like, I'm not going to go there.
Well, that was a good move by Steve Kerr.
So the Dodgers and Red Sox have agreed to a blockbuster deal.
2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts and pitcher David Price have been traded to Los Angeles.
Is it Mookie the second best player in baseball?
Am I crazy?
I thought it was Mike Trout and Mookie Beck for the two best players.
Am I nuts on that?
No.
In the three-team deal, the Dodgers sent outfield Alex Vertigo to Boston and Kenta
Maida to the twins, and the Red Sox
will also receive pitching prospect, Brewsdard Bratrol
from Minnesota. So clearly it's obviously
a money thing for Boston. It is. They want to get below the $208 million
luxury tax threshold. Price has a $3.96 million
deal, and
Mookie just signed a deal as well.
Okay, I got to tell you something. First of all, Dodgers are very well run.
And the Dodgers do not spend. They're very smart. They can spend
a lot more than they do. The Dodgers
have a great farm system and everybody they bring up
works like everybody. So
they spend a lot of money on research and development.
They have passed on
Harper. They passed on
Zach Grinke. They passed
on somebody else that was expensive. Mani
Machado, they didn't go all in on him.
So for the Dodgers to go in on Mookie Betts
it tells you
he is a
day one change
the franchise talent. He's a superstar, yes.
He is the second best player
in the sport. I don't know what his war is.
Fourth consecutive gold glove
last year. Obviously won the ALMVP in 2018.
How are the Red Sox struggling
with money? I don't get it.
I thought it was the Yankees made the most money.
Because they have the Ness and they have
a regional network that's a cash cow.
So Yankees make the most money. Isn't it
like Dodgers, Red Sox? How are
they struggling with money? I mean, I don't know if they're
necessarily struggling or if they just don't want
to pay that much. So Goulet
says they want to start over?
Yeah, they struggled a lot. They don't even have a
manager right now. Yeah, I know, but you don't start over
by giving up in his prime.
They don't want to give bets
the deal he's going to get soon.
So they're just getting ahead of it.
He wants something, the reports are he
wants something in the lines of $400 million.
He's the second best player in the game.
I don't get it.
Like, you don't give up. I don't get it.
This is not
Seattle. They've got money.
They're making a fortune on that.
I mean, I don't know. He's that talented.
Like, you're just going to have to pay.
You can Google the Red Sox TV contract.
They make a fort.
They're sold out every game.
Last time they did this, remember the Dodgers took a bunch of contracts from them,
and the Red Sox rebuilt their team and won the World Series almost immediately.
Okay, they didn't give up Mookie Bats.
They gave up an outfielder of the Dodgers.
Remember they gave up?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, they gave up Adrian Gonzalez, good player, heard a lot,
and they gave him an outfielder who was, eh.
I don't think it's not right.
Finally, Patrick Mahomes is eligible for his second contract in the line for a huge payday.
A lot of money talked today.
He said he's not worried about when his new deal will come
and he wants to be in Kansas City for a long time.
Chief's owner Clark Hunt is also in no rush,
but there are some factors to consider
because the longer the chief's weight to extend Mahomes,
the higher the price that could be
and giving him a new deal would also leave less money
for other key players, as we know,
and many believe he could be the first $40 million a year quarterback.
Now the CBA is also coming up soon.
That's right. So he'll feel like $34 million.
Well, I mean, they may both sides maybe just be wanting to wait to sort this out until after the CBA,
because a lot of things could change when it comes to that.
But, I mean, whatever they pay Mahomes is going to be worth it.
I think you showed that in the Super Bowl.
It's just that, you know, you're going to have to start looking forward and good organizations do this.
If you know you have this check coming up that you're going to have to pay, start putting cheaper pieces around and getting other guys locked in or do a longer-term contract.
I think his contract will be set up in a more interesting way.
because it is so expensive.
Because I don't think
that Patrick Mahomes
is not a self-aware guy.
I mean, he's seen
what the formula is
having long-term success
in this league.
And he's going to have
no problem
making any kind of money
that he wants off the field.
There's about seven guys
in pro sports in America
you just pay.
Like LeBron.
No, he deserves every penny.
I pay Steph Curry anything you want.
It's just going to change
their team a little bit moving forward.
All right, Joy with the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for
The Herd Lie News.
Coming up, there's a lot of speculation here about Tom Brady, our Tomometer.
There's a handful of organizations out there being named.
I still think he should play a year and retire, but we'll check in our tomometer.
Likely, how does it fit?
Would it be good for the league?
Our interest in where he would go.

Nick Wright today, Greg Kosselrick,
Buker, Eric Dickerson, stopped by.
So there's a ton of rumors about Brady
and just where he's going to land.
First time in 20 years, he's been a free agent.
and you know
Adam Schaefter's accurate a lot
and he has been on this now for a year.
Brady sold off his homes
in New England
so is his trainer. They're both up for sale.
Brady's family
according to reports is going to move to New York
meaning Tom is free to play anywhere.
Now there are reports. Tom Curran said yesterday
they'll pay him over 30.
But for Tom to get the contract he wants
he'll have to sign before March 18th
to give the Patriots a cap hit break
that means he'll have to trust they spend money at Receiver.
And I've been told by two people close to the Patriots organization in the organization,
it's not just money for Tom.
They need weapons and speed.
Nikiel Harry can't separate.
Either can Mohammed Sunu.
They don't have a tight end.
He is really frustrated with their lack of wide receiving talent and they don't spend money.
They just don't.
Bill will not spend money at Wide Receiver and he doesn't draft it well.
So I think we said 0 to 12, that's our scale, being that 12 is Tom's number.
You give me teams, I'll give you my number, 0 to 12, how it fits.
Okay, on the thermometer, a scale of 0 to 12, how interesting would it be if Tom Brady joined the dolphins?
Okay, the good news is he would face the Patriots.
He knows the division.
He knows the personnel around the division.
It reunites him with Brian Flores, but the offensive line is a mess.
It's a total rebuild.
To me out of 12, this is about a three.
Okay.
On a scale of 0 to 12 on the thermometer,
how interesting would it be if he joined the Titans?
Great running back.
Top 8 offensive line, according to Pro Football Focus,
and he reunites with one of his best friends in the game,
Mike Vrable.
It is a weaker division.
But Tom Brady's brand is enormous.
The Titans are not a win big in the moment team.
They feel too small for Tom.
other choices.
Giselle and Tennessee
doesn't feel right to me
about a five.
Okay.
How about if he joined
the Colts?
Great young
offensive line,
respected former player
as a head coach,
Chris Ballard,
as sharp as any
young GM in the game.
They've got all sorts
of tight ends.
To me,
though, here's the question.
And they need a
quarterback for two years.
It is a perfect fit.
It's a Giselle issue.
It's a Tom Brady
playing in a stadium
that has a statue
of
Peyton Manning outside of it.
I'll give it a nine on everything
other than that because I think
it's, I've told you, I think this is the
perfect fit, but there's a Peyton
Manning statue outside the stadium.
Manning and luck and it's like,
it won't be his team.
On a scale of 012, how interesting would it be
if he joined the Raiders? Now let's say this.
Lady Gaga lives there. This is Sinatra.
This is Elvis. This is Celine Dion. This is
a home for celebrities. No
state tax. And Gruden is very
pro Brady. He would hand the
franchise over. It is also a franchise. I love their running back depth, not just Josh Jacobs. O-line's
not terrible. They need a speed receiver, but they've got Darren Waller at tight end. You're going to have
to win with shootouts, and Patrick Mahomes is in the division. I don't like the brand fit. Tom is
corporate. They're the rebel. I say it's about a five. On a scale of 012, how interesting would it be
if he joined the Chargers? Second best fit. Don't love their offensive line. They may go get a left tackle to
solve that. The owner, people generally think the Spanos family is a little frugal, tight with
their money. Excellent weapons. Hunter Henry at tight end. Keenan Allen, two good running backs,
and a playmaking defense that keeps you in games. But I would say ownership can be a little
tight. Offensive line needs to be addressed. I say it's a seven. He has a home in L.A.
and it is a market where I think Tom would get more press than everywhere else except New England.
Colts higher than the Chargers.
All right.
On scale of zero 12, how interesting would it be if he joined the Cowboys?
Aggressive owner, excellent O-line, second best weapons arguably to Kansas City.
The owner's a marketing genius.
It's the biggest brand.
This to me is an outstanding fit.
The issue being defense isn't great.
Mike McCarthy is a Super Bowl winning coach, but is the cowboy brand so big, it overwhelms the TB12 brand?
Out of 12, I do give it a 10, though.
Okay.
And he looks good in their uniform.
He does look good in that uniform.
The Bears, zero to 12.
Awful.
I don't like their playmakers.
The weather is awful.
Aaron Rogers twice a year.
It doesn't fit.
It's not a fit.
I think it's a zero.
All right.
Which is a temperature for half the season there.
Right.
How about if Tom Brady joined the San Francisco 49ers on the thermometer?
Silicon Valley, best young coach, tremendous tackles,
outstanding young wide receiver talent, best tied in the game,
defensive line keeps you in games,
and he also gets to play Russell Wilson twice a year, in L.A. twice a year, in Silicon Valley.
And he steals the job from Jimmy Garoppolo?
12 out of 12.
this is really, if you're Tom Brady, this would be the fit.
For those suggesting you move off Jimmy G, what's the downs?
There's no downside to this.
The Cowboys can be flaky and Jerry Jones driven.
That reduces it.
The Colts, it's Indianapolis.
This is the fit.
Again, I like Garoppolo, but if you're asking the best fit, this is, I don't know the downside of this one.
I don't know what the down.
There's no downside other than, you know, if you like Jimmy Garoppolo, you're going to be upset at Tom.
That's pretty good fit.
Good stuff.
What'd you call it the tomometer?
The thermometer.
Like a thermometer, but a thermometer?
A tomometer sounds better.
