Starting point is 00:03:46 All right, guys. UFC 294 just wrapped from Abu Dhabi. What a phenomenal night of fights. I mean, time and time again, we are just in awe of performance. and the level to which these athletes show inside the octagon. So nobody anticipated this result, but Islam went and did it. You know, we talk about pound for pound. We talk about being the best.
Starting point is 00:04:19 And I think tonight Islam Mahachev showed that he is the best, because I feel like he beat the best. And I say that because of the respect that I and so many others have for Alexander. Alexander Volkanowski. Alexander Volkanowski is a savage. And the way Islam beat him tonight tells you that he is the best in the world. You thought it would have to be wrestling for Makachev. But Paul Feld had pointed something out very early,
Starting point is 00:04:46 said Makachev found a lot of success with his left high kick. He landed one early. Alexander Volcanoz kept the hand up, but he missed it. Guys, you can get caught with a head kick. It's happened to me. It doesn't matter how many times you're prepared for it, how much you think you're ready. sometimes shit just happens.
Starting point is 00:05:05 And that's what happened Alexander Bokinovsky tonight. But hats off to Islam. He went in there with a game plan and he followed it to a T. It was inside leg kick, inside leg kick, inside leg kick, high kick, blocked partially, high kick
Starting point is 00:05:20 ends the fight. You watch these guys and you watch these guys evolve and you watch them get better. But the way he was able to separate himself from Alex, over the course of eight months special. And I do believe that that was doing part of him not knowing who he was fighting.
Starting point is 00:05:42 So him really not having time to prepare for him, but also him not overlooking him. I thought that the first fight would play to Alexander's benefit. But it ultimately played to Islam's benefit because he knew what was in front of him now. He was locked in. He didn't take Alexander Volcano. for granted this time. He didn't believe that he was going to be able to knock him out or beat him very quickly. It was, it was awesome to watch. You know, he's the best. And now people will start to wonder if he will be a better world champion in Habib. If he's going to be the greatest
Starting point is 00:06:22 lightweight of all time, I don't know what that's going to happen. It's going to take a little more, but I think you have to take Habib's whole career into effect when that happens. There, There's work to be done for Malkachev to be considered the greatest of all time. But what can't be denied is that he is now the number of pound for pound fighter in the world. And why? Because of the person that he just beat in the fashion that he just beat, it's unreal. I was just talking to Islam in the back. But he told me that not only is he looking forward to the matches at 155,
Starting point is 00:06:57 but he may be looking to fight Kobe Covington. if Kobe Covington is able to win the championship at 170. Balaah Muhammad would hate this. And honestly, Balaa should be in line for a title fight. I think Islam still has work to do at 155, but I would not be doing my job if I did not give you guys the options that the champ and his team now feel maybe on the table for him.
Starting point is 00:07:23 For my money, Balao's the next guy after Kobe versus Leon. Just phenomenal. And for Alexander Volcanowski, This dude already said three months from now he wants to be back in the octagon against Ilya to pour you. I don't think you lose anything if you're Volkanowski losing in that fashion. I mean, he came on a week's notice and I'm not making excuses for him. He went out there with the idea that it was going to win. And the only reason people believed it is because of how good Alexander Volkanowski is.
Starting point is 00:07:52 And that is also what my opinion that Islam is a number of pompefong fighter in the world is based on how good Alexander Volkanowski is. Volcanowski is. This guy wants to fight in Toronto in January. Less than three months. One day less than three months, he wants to be locked in an octagon again against Iliot-Tuporia. All class in the octagon after he lost,
Starting point is 00:08:15 was Alexander Volcanowski. The dude's phenomenal. And I will sing his praises for as long as I am doing these jobs. I think he's just amazing, an amazing champion, but he will have his hands full with Iliot Tafori. Back to, Islam, Gathe or Olivaura for me.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Doesn't matter which one. Both of those guys are deserving. Justin Gaiti said I'm next. Maybe he saw something in that fight. How about that, though? Gachi knocks out Poye with a head kick. Islam knocks out, both with the head kick. Head kicks are going around at 155.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Co-main of Van Hamzaa Chimaya fought against Kamara Usman. Camaro Usman fought valiantly in that fight against Hamzachimaya. He fought hard. He showed why he was. such a long reigning champion. He showed why he belonged in there, even on short notice. And in the back, he told me, he goes, man, I wish I would have took five rounds. You know, he and I talked about that before the fight. And he goes, I wish I would have took five rounds. He felt like he could have got it done as the fight went longer.
Starting point is 00:09:20 But tonight, it belonged to Hamzai. Hamzad passed the stiffness test of his career. This was, guys, make no mistake about it. This is the hardest matchup for Tremaya. a wrestler, a former champion, in a weight class that he fought in, a guy that is considered one of the greatest of all time. This was the hardest matchup for Hamzaa. He passed the test. And in the interview afterwards, I mean, this guy is, he's growing. He was more humble than I've ever seen. Even when asked about the title fight, he said, I don't, I don't have to ask for this. I just want to be out here active making money. Different approach from Hamzaa Tamaier,
Starting point is 00:10:04 but a fantastic performance. Camarro was mine had been taking out one time in his UFC career. Hamzai Tamaier did it three or four times, especially in the third round when he needed that takedown. More than anything, he got it. He got it. And now he finds himself on the verge of a title fight against Sean Strickland, which will be amazing.
Starting point is 00:10:23 This whole week was crazy. And it's built to tonight. and the fights delivered. And we had unreal performances by two of the top guys at Dakar. Johnny Walker and Nagomad, Uncleayev was crazy. They asked Johnny Walker if he knew where he was. He said, I'm fighting in the desert. John Inick said, if he'd have said Abu Dhabi,
Starting point is 00:10:49 they said, what country are you fighting in? If you say Abu Dhabi, you're wrong. It's the United Arab Emirates on it. I don't get it. I don't get why the referee stopped. the fight. It was crazy. This referee had a bad night. He had a bad night tonight. I'm sorry, the judge or the doctor. He had a bad night tonight. He had a bad night stopping that fight. He also had a bad night earlier when he literally told, he literally told Victor Henry that the
Starting point is 00:11:17 kick wasn't low. Guys, Victor Henry went to the hospital. He had to get a tachycular x-ray. He got hit low. You don't act like that if you didn't get hit low. We need to make sure that these doctors know what they're doing, especially in the Johnny Walker situation where this guy speaks Portuguese. Get a guy in there to translate this for him or give him the amount of time that he has allotted to make a decision. That, the falls, the injuries, those were a bit weird tonight. But overall, it was a fantastic night from all these people that put on tremendous performances.
Starting point is 00:11:55 Hats off to Islam. Hats off the Hamzat. Hats off to Kamaru and Alexander Volkanowski. Savages and champions inside and outside the octagon. What an amazing performance. What an amazing night from Abu Dhabi. What an amazing country. They treat us like kings here every single time.
Starting point is 00:12:15 I love coming here. Guys, UFC 294 was a banger. As always, I have the best job in the world. And I'm just so happy that you guys tap into everything I'm doing. I love each and everyone. Until next time, guys. signing off from Abu Dhabi. I'm on a 15-hour flight back to the Bay Area.
Starting point is 00:12:32 And I can't wait. Guys, peace. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
