It's Friday afternoon and welcome to a brand new episode here at Daniel Cormier TV or the Daniel Cormier show. Today's episode is brought to you by Total Wireless, the official wireless provider of the UFC. They're in your corner with unlimited 5G data that will not slow you down. Now that is a total power move. You want to talk about someone that made a power move. And I think he is a lesson in.
Starting point is 00:04:32 he is a lesson in how to get something you want for younger fighters that may be watching. Okay? So, and I'm talking about Sean Strick. Just for the record, right? I'm talking about Sean Strickman. We all were operating under the idea that once Hamzaa Chimayev beat Drickus Dupli,
Starting point is 00:05:01 he was going to go into his first title defense. But then his opponent at the time was supposed to be Nassardine Imavov, right? Only because Nassardin Amavov, actually his last fight, and I'm looking it up right now, Imov's last fight, he looked amazing, and he beat Cabalio, right? Out in Paris, France, where he received a champion's welcome, obviously, where he was the bell of the ball and where people absolutely loved him. But it seemed like because of Marlop was on this run,
Starting point is 00:05:37 he was going to get a title fight. And it was almost certain, to the point, guys, where I had heard rumblings that the fight was actually going to be made official, right? I heard moments that this fight was about to be made official. It was a mute point. It was done. So when Sean Strickland goes into Houston
Starting point is 00:05:55 to take on Fluffy Hernandez, we talked about this and said he would have to do something insane to try to push himself to the top of the line to get a title fight. But not only does he win the fight, from the very start, Sean Strickland is who Sean Strickland is. So immediately, when he is on the dais at the pressers, he's saying things that are so crazy and out there that everybody's paying attention. Guys, I watch, I watch Stephen A. Smith talk about Sean Strickland. I watched the guy named Jason Whitlock talk about Sean Strickland. I watched every talking head that covers sports, the pivot.
Starting point is 00:06:36 I watch Club 520. Everybody talks about Sean Strickland, people that don't have nothing to do with MMA because he's so far out there. So immediately, Sean Strickland is putting himself in the public's eyes and on their minds. Now, the stuff you may not agree with what he says. He says some wild stuff.
Starting point is 00:06:57 Every time I sit with him, I am so nervous that Sean's going to say something that not only gets himself canceled, but gets me canceled. I don't even know that he cares, though, because he's a fighter. He has beliefs in what he believes, and he just speaks it. For him, he's lucky that he has an organization that allows for him to be exactly who he wants to be. So he goes into Houston, he beats Anthony Hernandez, right? we make a video the following week when I'm like, Sean looks so good.
Starting point is 00:07:31 If that version showed up, that might be a tougher fight for Hamzad than I may have imagined. But not only is he doing all those things, he's poking at the champion. He's poking at the champion. And then Hamzat starts to reply. Guys, I am telling you as a guy
Starting point is 00:07:49 that lived his life as Hamzat Shumai of a champ and lived his life as a challenger, as Sean Strickland is and as a former champion that wants to get back to the belt, I've lived that life. The most important thing you can do is poke and prod, and poke and prod, and poke and prod,
Starting point is 00:08:09 and hope that that champion responds to you. The moment Hamzad started responding, you start thinking, wow, this might actually happen. Because Hamzad is going back and forward, with Sean. Obviously, we know that those guys were training together and that a point it looked like they might have been friends.
Starting point is 00:08:31 But when I hear them talk about the training sessions and talk about the way they feel about each other, someone's lying. Because guys, people were in the gym when they were training. Someone was getting their ass kicked. Sean says it was Hamzot. Hamzot said it was Sean. Sean's saying, maybe I picked the toughest guy and I'll let him get in position.
Starting point is 00:08:52 Somebody knows what happened in those training sessions. You can get a pretty good gauge as to what is going to happen in the fight after those training sessions. But neither one of these dudes are blinking an eye. But take less than young fighters. Sean Strickland went and jumped the line
Starting point is 00:09:13 with a victory. Sean Strickland, actually, let me get back to your mouth off. Sean Strickland was a guy that after Dreckis beat him, we thought he was done. It looked like that fight that made him so good was gone. And he only fought one time.
Starting point is 00:09:34 He went from fighting Drekka's losing bad to beating Fluffy and earning the title shot because of everything he did surrounding the fight and getting the champion to take note. Pay attention, respond and react, has put him in a position where he gets the championship opportunity. Now here's the question, right? Here's the question that I have for everyone. It's like watching him against Fluffy, do we believe that he can compete against Hamzaa Chamaev? I have heard stories, guys.
Starting point is 00:10:05 I have heard stories out of the Chamaif camp. That Chamaif is training so hard and putting it on guys, elite level guys like nothing you've ever seen before. I have heard Hamzaa Chumayev wants people to go so hard with him to try to beat him and submit him and do he's paying him he doesn't care i got some guys in the gym at my gym that know people there they're like man this dude if somebody can submit him there's like money wait the saints got in trouble for bounty game comes i's putting a bounty on himself to make guys give him all that they have this dude it's different but do you believe that after
Starting point is 00:10:48 watching sean in that fight because he looks so good that he can actually compete against Hamzat. Now, Dana was talking about this yesterday. He said, hey, fun card, obviously the main event is the fight that people have been waiting for for a long time. Strickland looked great in his last fight, and you know, we're going to need some extra security for this fight. Do you think we'll need extra security for Chimaya versus Strickland? Absolutely. I got to be honest. I don't know if I trust those two enough to put them together before the fight because I think they might start fighting. They seem to hate each other and despise each other. And those things are what fights are built on. Those are the things that fights are built on is bad blood, heat, a true dislike for someone.
Starting point is 00:11:41 Sean don't necessarily like anybody, which makes him as fun as anyone to watch. But Hamzat just wants to smash people. Smash. Beat them up. Take them down. Overwhelmed them. to the point that they can't do anything. It had to over 20 minutes of control time against Dreykus.
Starting point is 00:12:00 But that's it, guys. Make the fight bigger than just the fight. That's how you get your fight. Back in 2022, Sean said, hey, I'll tell you, when I walk into a gym, do you think I pick on the little weakest guy? I say no. Let's spar. I find the biggest, baddest MFer in there, and I'm like, hey,
Starting point is 00:12:18 I want to spar you. Every time Chimaev would walk in the gym, he would pick the smallest, lowest-level pro and say, but oh, he looks like my opponent. He picked the smallest guy. I think that Hamzat's a bully is what Strickland said. I mean, he also said that he made Hamzot quit in training. Witnesses in the audience.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Where is Strickland's coach Eric Nixig at? I made him quit. No, we were doing positional grappling. I started on my back. I was like, first round, I let him choke me because no one gives a damn, but he said I made him quit. And to me it sounds like he believes that. But if I know Hamzat Shemayev and I've met him and I know him pretty good,
Starting point is 00:13:02 quitting does not seem like something Hamzat would do. It just doesn't. And if the stories are to be believed of what I am hearing in this gym right now, Hamzat Shemayev is firing on all cylinders. But if you watch Sean, he was too. Down in Houston against Fluffy Hernandez, who looked like he was a world beater going into that fight against Sean Strickland, Sean stops him with a nasty knee.
Starting point is 00:13:26 She was crazy, man. These guys, though, are supposed to be fighting in now. Newark, New Jersey gets that as the main event. Listen to Sean. I'm not telling you guys to do everything Sean Strickland does because I do not know that there is a world where that works for multiple people. I don't know how many people can get away with what Sean does. But there are things in there like pick at the champion that works.
Starting point is 00:13:51 Because I did it. And if you go back in history and look at the people that earned title opportunities, maybe before they deserved them, maybe when they thought they did in the world did not, notice what they did. Notice how. Chale Sutton fought John Jones based on just annoying John Jones. And then he said that when he walked in the dock, 909, he said,
Starting point is 00:14:13 I'm not beating this dude. But he knew he wanted a title opportunity. And he got it because of what he did and what he said. That's the lesson you take from Sean Strzum. I'm not telling you, Sean's the guy you want to follow. But in that sense, he jumped Nasardina Mava, based on his performance and based on the heat that he had with the champion. It's all the same in this world.
Starting point is 00:14:37 We may look at basketball, WWE, it's all the same. When you have something with the top, it builds interest. So whenever you have two teams that don't like each other, that's why the Packers and the Bears are the best. That's why people watch that game. I don't care about the Packers. I don't care about the Bears. But when they play, I do watch it if it's on TV
Starting point is 00:14:57 because I know there's bad bloods for years and years and years. That's why I can't stand the Falcons because there's bad blood with the Saints. That's the way it goes. And in fighting, it's the same thing. It's the same thing. And Sean Strickland getting this title fight is absolute proof of what I'm saying right now.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Guys, enjoy your weekend. Hey, two weeks to Miami and I can't wait. Again, like, subscribe. Tell your friends to tell their friends that I got a YouTube channel. I'm missing any of these videos. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
