This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Hey, this is Robert from the Stuff to Blow Your Mind podcast.
Joe and I are both lifelong Star Wars fan, so we're celebrating May the 4th with a brand new week of fun, thought-provoking Star Wars-related episodes.
Join us as we tackle science and culture topics from a galaxy far, far away, such as the biology of tauntons and wampas on the ice planet hot, or the practicality and corporate business sense of the Sith rule.
of two. Listen to Stuff to Bole Your Mind on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts.
The volume. I got to ask you a question because, well, I got to ask you a question because
we're doing an interview, but I got to know what it feels like to be fighting without as
much of the pomp and circumstance for the first time in a long time, meaning, you know, like not
being on the pay-per-view and just kind of having
still a main event, but just a
little more laid-back type of feel.
Even though, I mean, this place is sold out at
$20,000. Yeah. I mean, it's
cool. I mean, it's not a pay-per-view event.
It's not in, like,
in Vegas. In the Ninth Island,
it would be crazy, but
it's Kansas City. There is a lot of
Hawaiians out here, too, which is kind of
tripping me out. I mean, there's, like,
a couple Hawaiian food shops out here. I was, like,
kind of in disbelief. So it's cool, man.
It's cool. It's great. I mean,
crowd no crowd i got to fight in the apex with no crowd did you like that i mean it's all right we got to fight
with no crowd so it's kind of cool you know crowd no crowd a fight is a fight so i'm just excited
i fucking hated fighting in the apex when i fought stepe from my last fight in the apex i hated it
now i don't know if it was because remember it was still like in 20 so it was like nobody there
like at least now they have a few people there but like i actually i i could not stand that like we don't
for nothing. Like, you know what Brock Lesnar told me? Brock
Lesnar said he had his first wrestling match in front of nobody at a high school gym.
And he said when he went back to the WWE at the end of the pandemic and he was wrestling
in front of like they had those screens. There was nobody there. He goes, I'm done. I did not
get into this for this. I want to be in front of a crowd. Yeah. That's like hard to deal with when
you got to go back into no crowd. Yeah, it's kind of crazy. I mean, I didn't really think of it
that way. I just wanted to fight. I mean, as long as the paycheck hit hit.
Hit the bank calling.
Yeah, we'd be all right.
Refresh.
Tuesday, refresh.
I'm back.
I'm back.
Like the moment you get that paycheck, you're like, I'm back.
I'm fucking back.
Hell yeah.
Yeah.
But in that fight, you know, you're on the rebuild, right?
You're rebuilding back towards something.
You had to fight.
Yaira Rodriguez, who's now an interim champion.
You went out there and you wrestled him.
You did so good.
But we're back in that same situation now with Arnold Allen.
where you're having to rebuild back to something.
What's the mindset going into this one?
I'll just make a statement, bro.
Just making a statement.
Going out there and getting it done and statement,
you know, I hearing the criticism loud and clear
from social media, the media period,
they're saying, what's my drive, what's the fear,
what's feeling me?
So I got to go out there and make a statement,
you know, get another moment.
I'm glad you're on the table working it
because last time he was there,
we talked a little story.
You put it on.
You put it on that dude.
You put it on Calicator.
We made quite a moment, so it was pretty good.
But then I got in trouble for that.
You talked to me, you over there talking to me in the middle of the fight, I'm not saying shit, but what I'm supposed to do, I'm trying not to make eye contact, but they're going to tell me I'm biased.
That's not fair.
How was I being biased when you're the only one landed punches?
Dan Hardy and John, I was talking back too, so what happened?
But it's because of our relationship.
They judge me.
I don't even like you.
That's what I'm saying.
I'm trying to get you canceled.
The whole time I'm doing, in my mind, I'm thinking about how could I get this dude cancer?
Yeah, bro.
My whole time is like, what can Daniel do to help me?
Because here's the deal.
Here's the deal.
From DC and RC, the opening of the show is you talking shit to me.
Oh, my God.
The moment this did the interview start, you talking shit to me.
I feel like our relationship is me trying to be like a good friend and you talking shit to me.
Oh, man.
No, no, not at all.
Because when the camera's off, you're actually talking shit to me.
So there it is.
I'm the professional guy.
I'm 44 years old.
You know, I'm not a child.
I don't act childish like you.
I love the childish games in my 30s.
Oh, this is a lot.
One of your good friends that said, this is number one bullshit.
Number one bullshit.
This guy.
Max, you know, I talk, you know, you and I talk off the record all the time.
You know, when you went with Tim, you were like, yeah, man, I was talking to my new management.
And I'm going to come out.
We're going to work on the wrestling.
Yo, the training was good, dog.
Yeah.
I mean, the training with me and you, you know, like you coming to California.
You know, I went on my show on the SPN, and I was like, yeah, man, Max going to come and work.
No, you work so hard in the gym.
Oh, my God.
Wait, what happened?
Why are you saying, oh, my gosh?
I didn't end up coming.
I'm saying, like, that's just, you went so far as you just, you'd have to tell me that.
Like, I'm waiting.
I was like, I'm sitting at the gym.
I'm waiting at the door.
Like, you know, Max is going, any minute he'll be here.
This guy's lying
So what happened?
You was busy
You was busy
I was busy
I was like yeah
You know
It's not gonna happen
Maybe next one
Maybe next time
I mean
I know that
How was the training camp
Though like
I know I'm joking
Fucking around
But like
How was the camp
How was the preparation
Did you bring it
Anybody new
To get yourself
Ready for Arnold Allen
I was great
Yeah
I mean I
We did
I got to box with
I did some boxing
With one of these kids
From Hawaii
A softball kid
That can change
My Gland
Sopah
It was great
It was great, and then we had our team, our normal team stuff,
and we built out some private workouts,
and we went from there.
It was super good, man.
It feels great.
I feel mentally ready.
I feel physically ready.
And just can't wait to go out there and make this weight.
You know, the hardest part of the fight is the weight.
It's terrible, huh?
Yeah, I mean.
But you seem to be doing it better now than you were even doing it before.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
You know, shout out to my beautiful wife, you know.
She can cook?
Oh, bro.
She can do whatever.
Yeah, she cooks everything.
She takes care of everything.
help me take care of my kid doing
with Rush a lot
so
wrestler where wrestlerler last said
oh bro you already know
he already told you started he got busted
I can't stay home
on this one
they start when they turn into like
this age right
they just develop
they start to develop but
he's a man
rush is the man
hey little Dan was there at the last
fight and he loved that you came out to
that that strange thing song
and dude was all disappointed at the end of the fight
remember we came to the room and spoke to you
but they love watching you fight,
they love watching you compete.
You mean something to them.
That's one thing you have been able to do to people
is like you draw out in emotion.
Like even if people don't know you,
it's like you draw it this emotion.
What makes you connect with people so easily, man?
Like people feel like I want to like Max Holloway.
I mean, I don't know.
I just go out there and I just be genuinely me, you know.
I mean, that's why we click.
That's why I click with a lot of people.
I like a lot of people because we just go out there.
Say what's on our mind and just keep it real, you know?
You think it's because you grew up in front of everyone?
I mean, you fought on, I think you fought on King Velasquez, Brock Lesnar, didn't you?
The first Fox show?
No, I didn't fight on the first Fox.
No, did?
No, when did, that's when I fought, I fought Cub on Fox, so I'm not sure if I was.
Yeah, I think you might have been, because I remember seeing you in the elevator just a young,
who were you, 21 when you made your UFC debut?
20, I was 20.
20 years old.
Yeah.
Do you think that's part of it, right?
Seeing Max Holloway, a 20-year-old kid to becoming the man that you are?
Oh, for sure.
So a lot of guys, I know, I was a baby in the sport.
They got to watch me grow up.
There's come a lot of people think I'm your age.
They're like, when are you're so young, you know, I'm only 31.
I'm like two years older.
Where you're 31 years old?
Yeah, I turned 30 at the end of year.
But we see what happens.
But at then day, a lot of guys keep telling me, yeah, I'm a vet, vet, you know?
I'm like, I'm a vet for sure.
I've been here forever.
But I'm not a vet vet vet.
I'm not old yet, you know?
Yeah.

A win is a win.
A win is a win. I don't care what you're saying.
Yep, that's me.
Cliver Taylor the fourth. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
One week, I'll take you behind the scenes of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment, and the next we'll talk about life.
mental health, purpose, and even music.
The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast.
It's a space for honest conversations,
stories that don't always get told,
and for people who are chasing something bigger.
So if you've ever supported me
or you're just chasing down a dream,
this is right where you need to be.
Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeart Radio app,
Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more behind the scenes,
follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok.
Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tapped Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because.
of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack on day, but just so y'all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack.
So I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really?
Yeah.
For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your
Do you think like what difference, what makes you different than guys like Aldo, Shogun,
and all those guys that did start so young, but by the time Shogun was at, was 30, was your age,
he looked like he was done or like Aldo looked like he was done.
So many of those guys, those Brazilians that have so much young success, by the time they get to their 30s,
they seem almost done.
Like what makes you different?
even though you are a guy to take some damage
like you're tough like you've never been
dropped yeah a lot of people talk about
the damage thing and and
the damage thing is great because you can see the numbers
when I'm in front of you but I'm no longer
taking damage in
in the gym you know what I mean
like I'm not taking no damage these guys
the one guys that you said all the shogun the two guys
do what they have come I think said a boat was at uh
shooto right or yeah no they were at uh shoot a box
shoot a box and like
you saw those guys train
Oh, my God.
They need to get paid pay-per-view points over there.
They train hard.
They get after and it's like fights.
So at the end of the day, that's what it is.
You know, we found a way what worked for us.
We take less damage in the gym now.
So if we do take damage, it can be in the fight.
And, you know, you make your career longer that way.
One of those things that we always made fun of was like,
this dude is saying now that he don't spar.
But you said something today in the training that made a ton of sense.
You're not sparring in camp hard.
you're sparring before.
Yeah.
So that when you're in camp,
now you're starting to kind of play fight a little bit.
That's smart.
Yeah.
So like what a lot of people are saying,
like, oh, you didn't spar for the camp?
Yeah, I didn't spar.
But outside of camp, I'll do some sparring here and there.
I'm like, oh, I feel like going, I feel like going boxing.
Or I feel like, let's go try it.
Let's go.
I got a new move that I saw on top of Instagram or whatever.
So I like, I want to go spar hard and see if it actually can, you know,
translate to actually being useful.
And then when we're in camp,
most of my injuries from sparring day.
You hurt your toe
You hit your little stuff
You hurt your fingers
You're sore
Because of just sparring hard
So at the end of day
When we was able to
Figure out like look
We can stu it
Go like that tie speed
Of where you go fast and everything
But you're just not throwing hard
You know
And now you got partners that are
Willing to
Train a certain way for you
Like if we actually
I remember before when we spar hard
We were like oh you got to do this
If I was getting the better
Then they'll just go back
To their old style
That would actually
actually be more competitive
versus being the style that we asked them to do.
Yes, yes.
So they were trying.
They couldn't be as good as someone else
so they're being themselves.
And then you end up just fighting your training partner
you do every day.
Max, you have no cauliflower here though.
No.
How?
I don't know why.
I had cauliflower once
and then I had the surgery when I was like 18.
You know, when they put that,
they put that gel on your ear.
Yeah, they put two sides.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
That's it.
They never came back.
It smashes it.
Yeah.
Could you imagine the,
those ears with cauliflower?
Oh my gosh.
You might fly away, dog.
Actually, I might actually be held to the ground more.
I might be actually your height.
I might turn to your height.
I'm taller than you.
No, you are.
I am fucking taller than you, bro.
No, you're not.
I've always been taller than you.
No, you're lying on top of your USC.
I did.
My bio was not.
It was wrong.
I used to be 5.11 and a half.
I'm shorter.
Yeah, you're growing this way.
I know you're way more shorter.
I'm like, why now?
Yeah.
Sometimes I can't fit through the door.
Hey, bro.
If you, like, after fight Sunday, you get the victory.
What are you doing on that microphone?
We're in the middle of the octone.
I go, Max Holloway, what's next for you?
Like, what are you saying in that moment?
Like, what does Max Holloway look forward to if you're not immediately calling for a championship fight?
My wife went on a going trip, so we're going to Japan.
Oh, wow.
So...
You're Japanese?
No.
Is she Japanese?
No.
But she wants to go to Japan
So I said I'm going
Because she don't like Disneyland
For some reason
That place is awesome
Yeah I love Disneyland
But you can't
Don't tell me nothing
14 Chiro's man is right here
bro
Anybody out there
Talking about Chirals
I'll beat you in a Chiro
Eating Contest
When you go to Miami
Go to Poppy Chiro
Pappy Chiro
It's a great
That's a great
Chiro restaurant
That's awesome
I love it
Max
I'll stay to eat
barbecue with you
On Sunday
Sounds good
That's a deal
So change your flight
I'll change my flight
Hawaiian food
What's your
your favorite. Calua pig
the pig's my favorite.
But with the pig, you guys, so here's what I do with my
pig. Because I know like when
you cutting weight, you want to talk food.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
I don't like it wet. You know how the pig can be wet.
Oily, yeah, I think it's super oily. I want the pig.
I'm going to take it and I'm going to put it in a frying
pan and I'm going to cook it a little bit and almost make it
like well done. Then I put it over rice.
Yeah. Yeah. My favorite
is, do you ever had squid well?
Fuck no. The green thing with
squid?
Yeah.
Squid.
Yes.
Squid luah are the best.
Bro, I'm not eating no squid luaw, man.
Oh, my.
I'm not eating squid.
Why?
I'm black, bro.
And what?
Black people don't eat shit like that?
Is he cross?
Does he eat squid?
Yeah.
Is he don't eat squid?
Like, I thought you black people don't eat squid, dog.
We know he shit like that.
Nigerians ate everything.
Nigeria.
Squids.
I ain't no fucking squid, man.
Guys, Max Holloway takes on Arnold Allen on Saturday,
live from Ken.
Kansas City.
One of the greatest featherweights of all time, if not the greatest featherweight
of all time, tries to work his way back to the championship.
Hey, man, you're good on TV?
When you're going to start doing TV again?
Brother, I don't want to take your job, bro.
I still got fighting, a lot left fighting in me, so.
I mean, 31.
I stopped at 41, so you got 10 more years if you want.
I got 10 more years on you, so you 10 more years to Google get your money,
and then I don't feel bad when I take your job.
By the time you get to 41, maybe you fight heavyweight.
You've taller to me, if you're taller to me, all you got to do is get fat.
I haven't told it in you.
We could solve this right now.
No, no, stop.
Let's not do that.
Let's not do that.
Guys, make sure you watch Max on ABC.
It's going to be a great fight.
My guy.
Thank you.
Good luck this weekend, dog.
Thanks for checking it with me.
I appreciate it.
Until next time, like,
