This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's
superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
For 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The volume.
Guys, the All-American Chris Wydenman.
Thank you for checking in with it, my friend.
Bro, it's been a while since we've been here.
You're about to come back to the Octagon now.
How's it feel?
So, as a disclaimer, Chris and I spend a lot of time together, not doing this.
And you've told me time and time again.
right? How's it feel to finally be here?
It feels good, man. I'm happy to be here, man.
I didn't know what was going to happen with this sport.
I don't know if I was going to be able to be able to do a fight week again
and do a weight cut again.
So honestly, every bit of it I'm enjoying.
I'm super grateful.
I just got a great attitude about it all.
You know, you look like guys like Al Jameen Sterling, my teammate.
He's grumpy.
I'm like, Aljo.
He's cut in a weight, though, man.
I'm kind of weight, too.
Trust me.
I'm like, bro, be happy.
But think about how you're acting when you were the champ, though.
That champ life could make you feel like this media stuff is annoying.
And just, listen, I could go that route too.
I could be like, this shit is just fucking bullshit.
I remember you as the champ.
Everyone was like, you got to do an interview.
You're like, fucking interview again.
I don't want to do that.
Because I used to have.
100%.
I know, I'm not judging anybody.
I'm not thinking I'm better than anybody.
But I'm just saying.
As a friend to him, I'm like, it doesn't help you to act like that.
Let's go.
Be positive, bro.
I know it sucks.
You're good.
Let's go.
Drink more water.
You got to do it.
We're low.
This guy, my stomach hurts.
It's one of the load of hurts.
I'm like, stop.
Being away so long, you gain that appreciation for it all again.
You just gained your appreciation, bro, because I didn't know if I was coming back.
And so for me to be back, it's just like, it's just great.
You know, I remember I used to, we used to talk, like, right when it happened, we'd be on FaceTime.
Because you remember we talked about doing some stuff, podcast and everything, and you would just be sitting there.
And I was sad for you, bro.
Like, because you had, you kept having setbacks.
Yeah, yeah.
Like, in those moments, like, I would FaceTime you and I'm like, yo, Chris, what's up, man?
And you're always such a nice guy.
But you could see that it was like, it was hard.
Like, were there moments where you were like, man, I don't know about this shit.
I don't know if this shit is worth it, like to fucking put myself through what I'm going through mentally and physically to get back to this thing where there is no guarantees.
Because you can go out there Saturday and it can be over in no time.
Bro, it was hard.
It was an understatement.
Not that I want to blow it out of proportion, but the whole situation was terrible.
I remember getting you FaceTime from you and it was awesome.
I remember that we were supposed to do, we're going to do a show together and you hired someone else.
No, you went and never back down podcast or some shit like that.
Won't back down.
Don't get back down podcast.
And that's not why.
That's not what happened.
This guy.
I love it.
Love DC.
But, yeah, he gave the job to someone else.
But I'm glad I was in the interview process.
What so far?
I'm on my deathbed over here with a leg injury.
He facetized me pretending like he's actually trying to see how I'm doing.
It was an interview.
It was an interview.
He was an interview with me.
I go, shit, I've never been on an interview before.
I'm actually nervous now.
He's interviewing me.
But it was, it didn't seem like this was a thing that was going to happen.
But now that you're here, you're full of gratitude.
But then when people talk about Chris Wyden, we were speaking about this yesterday, and it was like the why.
You've done everything.
Champion, beat Anderson, you know, made money, like, why?
because I just know what I could do.
I could shock the world,
even crazier of a shock of me knocking down there's a Silva.
Me coming back for this injury,
and then everything I've been through with it,
the documentary is going to come out.
You guys will really see what the fuck I went through.
Then for me to build to climb the rank
and is like, I'm a fucking top prospect,
get breakthrough fighter of the year.
Imagine that.
Fighter of the year.
Knock out at Asana,
or just finish Adasania,
we'll see what happens.
I mean, that's a fucking shock
and that's inspiration
for the whole damn world
no matter what you go through in life
don't stop believing in yourself
don't let the world tell you
that 39's too old.
I'm 39, I'm in my prime
and I'm looking fine.
All these times,
I swear sometimes you say
some of the most uncool shit.
I feel like Chale Sondon did stuff like that
he's down there.
People liked it.
Yeah, but Chale believes it.
You got to start somewhere.
No, I do think I'm in my prime.
No, I feel like I feel great.
I feel great, yeah.
But you're no rapper.
I mean, you live in South Carolina.
I'm hoping that I'm in New York.
You remember that time you guys rap?
You and Aljo on?
We just did it embedded, I think.
I hope they don't put it out.
Bro, when you and Aljo rapped on the way and show, it was bad.
I was so bad.
I was so bad.
I was bad again.
I was bad again, but thank God he's always worse.
And this guy's actually thinks he's a rapper.
Me, I can be like, bro, I don't really care about this.
I'm not a rapper, obviously.
This dude tries and he makes songs.
He actually has a song up.
No, he doesn't.
He has a famous rap song.
He has a famous rap song.
He never said he has a rap song.
You got to go on Spotify.
Spotify.
Okay, I'm going to go watch it.
I'm going to go type of a buckmaster.
No, he does a great job on it, but he needs to work on his freestyle game because his
street credit is dwindling down with me, like, beating him in fucking freestyle.
The problem is if you're freestyling with you, it immediately hits at the fucking...
You can't have me be doing a freestyle.
Like, no rapper out there.
If you want to...
Of course, okay.
Have success.
But rapping, though.
Brad Tavares.
What do you think about the matchup?
Because you remember when we were in Los Angeles when you started to get matchup options?
Yeah.
And it was like this guy, this guy, this guy, it was Hermanson, it was Brunson, Tavaris.
Like, what made you guys settle on Tavaris?
And what do you think about this matchup in particular?
Those other guys weren't around to fight.
So, and then they offered me August 19th with Brad.
I was like, you know what?
I'm thinking about this.
Okay, let's do it.
Because I think he's a super tough test.
I think he's underrated what people think.
I mean, he's a type of guy.
He's the super experienced.
He's got the most decision wins in the history of the middleweight division.
He's been around for a long time.
He's fought the best of the best.
He doesn't really get put away by these top guys.
Adasani couldn't put him away.
Drick his Duplice, him and those two guys were,
it was a barn burn of a fight.
And so for me to have that challenge,
I know it's not going to be easy,
but for me to be able to put him away
and get that finish on a guy like that,
I think it just speaks volumes of where I'm at
and what I should get next.

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what you're saying.
Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media.
Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for Raw, Untiefer.

Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs?
Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
I know what you're thinking.
What the hell does George Bush got to do a little Kim?
Well, you can find out on the Look Back at a podcast.
I'm Sam Jette.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a here, unpack what you?
went down and tried to make sense of how we survived it.
Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill, waxing all about crack in the 80s.
To be clear, 84 is big to me, not just because of crack.
I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so you all know.
I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack,
so I'm starting to see that there's a through line.
We also have AIDS on the table right now, so.
Thank you finishing that sentence.
Yes.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
You're a prideful guy, right? You're on the prelims. And like, honestly, like, I'm serious.
Like, when you've been at the top of the marquee, you've been worked, the paperviews were built around.
How does that feel for a guy like Chris Wydenman?
Yeah, don't like it. I feel.
disrespected a little bit.
I've seen other guys.
They were telling me I was going, like it went back and forth.
They said I was going to be on the main card.
And then all of a sudden I was on the prelims.
And then my manager said, oh, though, they think they're going to put you on the main card.
Next day I know it was on the prelims.
I was like, all right, that's interesting.
I was like, maybe because the documentary I'm doing with ESPN, they want me on ESPN.
I don't know what's going on.
But at the end of the day, I'm like, I just, I'm using it as a motivation.
I've seen guys that they put on the prelims.
I've seen guys who were accomplished and they put on the prelims.
And I was like, oh, that's kind of messed up.
Those guys, they felt like those guys were kind of done.
Those, like, retirement-type fights.
And I don't think the UFC realizes where I'm at and what I'm doing this for.
I'm not trying to, you know, come back and see how I feel and, like, just get won and feel, like,
accomplished because of everything I've been through.
And, like, let me just say, I got back into a UFC fight.
I am here to be a world champion again.
And so being put on the prelims, it's like, all, mother.
Because that's what you think of me?
You think I'm a prelim guy now?
All right, I'm going to be the king of the prelims.
I'm going to come up the rankings like that undefeated fighter like I have done before.
I feel like I'm in that position again.
I'm going to rise to the top pretty damn fast.
And but, yeah, like I'm, I take it as a challenge.
Like, everybody, that's what you guys think.
Technically, I'm a prelim guy now.
Is that what you think?
Okay.
You're going to be seen by.
I also think another part is, bro, I'm a paper view seller, not to toot my own horn,
but every one of my paper views.
You've received the checks before.
I've received the checks before.
Every one of my pay-per-views, I've seen the numbers.
I've done fucking pretty damn good, better than these paper views that are going on now.
They might be trying to hurt Aljo, not putting me on the main card.
Aljo's the only one getting in pay-review points, really, right?
Yeah.
You want the names.
I think they're trying to hurt him.
I can take this a lot of different ways.
Technically, though, you'll be seen by more people on the prelims.
Yeah, but if you can...
Because more people watch the prelilts because it's on three games.
I mean, I can say that and make myself feel better.
And it's like Chris Weidman after two years away, everybody gets to watch this.
That's cool, yeah.
I would like to hear them say that.
I don't think that's the reason.
I feel like they just lay out.
He's on this.
We don't want, what if I am successful on the main card?
Is that now they're building the 39-year-old guy?
That's maybe what they're thinking.
Brad Tavares, what if he beats me?
What are they building Brad Taviris?
That's kind of where I see a little bit where they're at.
And I'm, I'm going to, I'm knocking on the door and they have to answer.
Like, it's going to happen.
It just seems like you want to put a chip on your shoulder.
100%.
Yeah, I'm going to take a chip on the shoulder if I could get it.
But, yeah.
Chris, last thing you said, I'm going to kick as hard as I can the moment we get in there.
Is it just to show yourself, man, this thing's fine?
Or is it like, because it's your back leg, right?
It's your back leg.
You have to throw an outside leg kick if you want to throw that kick that hard.
I got to throw the same kick I threw against your right hole.
That even makes me cringe a little bit.
Yeah, that's why I'm going to do it.
I want to shock you.
But why?
Like, why don't know?
I don't know. I like to do, I like to, if I feel uncomfortable doing something,
and if there's an elephant on the room,
I'm going to point it out.
And I'm going to kick.
We'll see.
I mean, I'm not,
we're going to let the instincts fly,
but I'm not going to,
if I feel uncomfortable with it,
I'm just going to throw it probably.
You've always been the best with your hands.
Like, your boxing has always been,
it's not like you throw great kicks.
My kicks are hard, though.
They're hard, but they're not that good.
I mean, they don't look pretty much.
Awkward and,
they land them.
And tough.
And you've got this ability to hurt people.
You did it to me.
We were just drilling and wrestling.
Chris,
last thing before I let you go, my friend
how about you get your schedule?
Who on the schedule?
I didn't have to text you.
Hey, Chris, can we do an interview?
Can we sit down?
Your ass is mandatory.
Isn't it amazing?
This guy, first of all, great interviewer
and great commentary, dude.
He is talented.
You're talented with a shit.
But it's because you're charming.
This guy charmed everybody.
This guy stole everybody's money
and they don't even know it.
They don't even know it.
You just robbed everybody.
You took everything.
You took over.
This guy took over in a charming way.
Where's your schedule?
Where's your schedule?
It says, sit down with Daniel Kornick.
I can't believe that.
Honestly, I thought it was going to be one of those things that show up the fight week
and you text me, yo, you mind doing the thing between your other thing and the day before Wayans?
I'll fit you in.
But for it to actually be on my schedule?
That's pretty big time.
You kind of like that.
You know how many people would love to be on that?
On the schedule?
Of course.
mandatory with every fighter
we're famous
famous people all day long
Chris Wyden returns this weekend

that angle of the break
where the leg pops
that shit was nasty
you'll get the
the blood and the bones
popping out
like you didn't see that
where the UFC showed
what happened to me
in that octagon
you just seen my leg
turned to rubber
like Anderson Silva's
like Connie McGregors
they didn't show
the back of my leg
shattering I mean
poking through
which is nasty
I didn't know that even
I didn't see that angle
until recently.
I'm like, what the fuck?
That's what happened to me.
I couldn't believe it.
Yeah.
It was unbelievable.
Guys, Chris Wydenman, back in the Octagon, the All-American.
One of everybody's favorite guy, we miss you on the way in show, bro.
