This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Hey, guys, it's us.
The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it.
We're the first people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you.
you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel
and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you
funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel, help an
a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some
retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and
friends on the ice.
Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam?
It's Isaiah Thomas.
And I'm C.J. Toledano.
It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs.
We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.
And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.
Then after that game seven, Marquis'clock, he's like, you know I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.
So listen to Point Game on the,
IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Your husband is not who you think he is.
Your body is not what you thought it was.
Your identity is formed by a secret history.
I'm Danny Shapiro.
And these are just a few of the stunning stories I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family
Secrets.
He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move.
And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off.
And that was the last time I saw him.
Listen to season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akila Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority black city in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.
Listen to Rebel Spirit season two on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
The volume.
It feels like we haven't talked in a while, Ben.
Been too long.
I think you canceled on me one time.
No, I didn't, dude.
Don't, don't lie.
You almost canceled on me tonight, I think.
No, I didn't.
I was fine.
I just, I was getting out of practice.
That was Luis.
I think Louise just anticipates me canceling.
So didn't he just canceled this show?
Well, it has happened.
a couple times.
You're an idiot.
There's a few times.
All right, guys,
welcome to a brand new episode of Funkin'The champ
that's Ben Ascran.
I'm Daniel Cormier.
Ben,
PNL last weekend, you all rolled it up.
And it looked like
Kellen Walbert was wearing a Oklahoma
state shirt today.
Is that where he's going?
Yeah, he made his commitment today.
Is that your first cowboy?
Yeah, it's still like
it still feels weird.
still feels weird. Like, I don't know how to feel about it.
It's great. It's absolutely
great to have a kid
going to local to stay. I'm telling you, I had mine with Cody
last year, and he's
loving it, dude. The
environment there is next
level, and these kids are wrestling great, dude.
Last week, they killed the Clifford. I know. You went
and watched him at CKLV, right?
I did, of course, man, what you mean? Cowboys
in the building. More orange.
You think you could beat White Hendrickson
right now? No.
No.
bro, he was putting the kid in the barbed wire the other day.
Remember the bar wire?
Yeah, of course.
He's the best, bro.
I love him.
The bar wire.
I love that you called the barber.
That's what I call it because it's that barbore,
but there's a whole bunch of names for that that are not the barbed wire.
No, it's called the bar bar wire.
Yeah.
You know, I didn't call a bar arm, a bar arm for a white.
It's called it a chicken wing.
Oh, yeah.
I heard that, of course.
Call it a bar arm now like everybody else.
All right, Ben.
So UFC 3, 10 was last weekend.
and Pantosia one, little guys, right?
Little guys are really making their mark in mixed martial arts.
The best little guy in the world, I would argue, is Ilya to pour you, right?
Meaning little guy, 145 and down.
Man, he might be mad at you, you call him a little guy.
145 and down, I call him little guy, right?
45, 35, 25, 25.
He's starting getting into the middle-sized people at 55 because they weigh 17, 180.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
he said he's done though
beat Max Holloway
beat the champ became the champ
and vote
beat Max Holloway
now he says
he's done at 145
he wants to fight at 155
what do you make it at like
that's kind of odd to me
because it's not like he's
out of challengers
I mean I feel like it
really came out of nowhere
because
he's like he's been having
trouble making weight
or you know
anything like
that he just, so he got it's on nowhere.
And to your point, not on challengers, you have Diego Lopes, who's, you know, gaining some
populated and gained some steam.
And then you got, I don't know how to say it.
Evloiv, who just beat El-Moyev.
Evloiev, who just beat El-Jame last weekend.
So you have these two guys who are up-and-comers, but, you know, there are a little
bit bigger fish to fry at 155.
You know, if he goes and beats Charles A very huge name, that secures a lot.
shot and you know you had two division champion that's a huge deal i think don't really
distinguish your featherweight belt hold it in case uh lopes was on a really great performance
then go take him on you know his name is lopez right like i mean literally just looks like
lopez well i had this guy i knew no no no because i had this guy who was brazilian
early training partner lucas lop pes so i when i see it i just like say it out of habit okay i'm
like come on i know you made fun of me for the
before, I think. It's like clearly
Lopez. But you know what? You know what it makes
me think about when I hear him going, I don't want
to fight Diego, I don't want to
fight Evloev, I don't want to fight
Volcanovsky again? It makes me think, honestly,
that the fights
to win the belt and
in the fight to retain the belt were too big.
So,
John Jones struggled with this a while back, right?
When he was fighting me and Shad
and all these big names, when he got
to Anthony Smith and Tiago
Silva and Dominic Reyes.
He's like, it doesn't
feel
as exciting.
I think for
Toporia, he's like,
I just beat the two greatest
heavy weights, sorry, feather weights
of the generation. Now I
got to fight Diego Lopez.
Now I got to fight Evloev.
I just think that
for him, it might feel
like the challenges
aren't as great as the ones he
to go through in order to become the champion.
Yeah.
I mean, there's definitely some truth to that.
And you don't want to think that I want to say is,
it might be McGregor's fault.
There's probably a lot of things that are his fault.
What?
How can you blame Connor for that too, man?
Hold on you don't know what I'm going to say.
You don't even know what I'm going to say.
Back in the day, back in my day,
you know, there was something to be said for defending your belt a few times.
You think of the all-time grace, Anderson Silva,
George, C.P.R.
John Jones,
Demetius Johnson,
all defended their belts for a very long reign.
Like,
it wasn't like they had one or two
and then went up a waiter,
did supervise or anything else.
It was like, hey, you won your belt
and then you defended a whole bunch of us and that's what made them
so great.
And it's actually kind of rare.
We see that in mixed martial arts now.
And, uh,
you know,
I thought,
at the very least,
at the very least,
at the very least,
Dupuria is saying, I want to be active.
I want to fight like he said,
you know,
uh,
he said Islam's fighting in January.
And, uh,
And he won't be ready until May, so I want to fight, like, soon.
So I love that he's saying active.
But as far as defending your belt in the division for a long time,
I feel like that's something we haven't seen in kind of a long time.
You know, plus, I also don't like, this is a conversation I want to have with you.
And I don't know if we have had this before.
But I don't even know it constitutes a great title reign anymore.
I don't know how many defenses is a great title reign anymore,
considering it's so hard to defend championships.
but I think for Tuporia myself,
I think personally it's just like
when you beat the best guys,
especially the two guys that ruled the division for so long,
there can be a little bit of fatigue in there.
And it's not like muscle fatigue.
It's mental fatigue, right?
Because you have to be so up
to do what he did to Max Holloway
and to do what he did to Volcanowski.
And I don't care what people tell you.
The only ones that believe that he would do what he did
was Ilya Teporia and his team.
You can't think that that was going to happen
just being on the outside.
He went and he knocked out Max Holloway.
That doesn't happen.
You don't knock out Max Holloway.
He knocked out Volcanovsky.
You don't do those things back to back.
So now to think, now I went to fight
to establish veteran stars,
people that sell pay-per-view,
the BMF champion.
So now I've got to fight a guy
that's on the upswing,
a guy that's on the rise,
a guy that truly is who I was only a couple fights ago.
Yeah, but I don't know.
I feel like, I feel like we got to put that narrative to bed.
It's bullshit.
Just fight the best guy in your division.
But it's not, it's not bullshit, Ben.
It is a little bit bullshit.
It is.
It is far.
As well as entertainment, this is sport.
Ben, I get it.
Let me, I'll ask you two questions.
I'll prove you wrong right now.
Okay, go ahead.
Okay.
College wrestling, what's the most impressive than it's ever been done?
Four NCAA titles undefeated.
Why?
because he had to do it every single match.
American wrestling.
American wrestling,
what's the most impressive international feat?
John Smith.
Six straight,
because he did it every single time.
I understand.
I understand you want consistency,
but Ben,
we are not talking about wrestling.
We're talking about fighting.
But that is why?
Let me tell you why,
right?
Let me tell you why guys lose
the people that are viewed as...
That's their fault.
That's their fault they can't say.
But that's why.
I think that's why John Jones fought so bad against those guys because of that fatigue
that having to get up so hot.
You can't say fatigue because John Jones had like three years off from.
No, but I'm not talking about muscle fatigue.
I'm talking about mental fatigue.
When you got to get up so great, bro, even me, when I fought John Jones, even if I lost,
I train harder because I recognize the challenge and all that came with beating him.
I don't know if that's-
To fight Vulcan, it was different.
I'm telling you.
Okay.
Listen, I don't know.
Hold on.
Hold on.
I mean, I mean, I got my book out here.
Okay.
I'm forgetting which chapter this is right now.
So this is chapter number eight.
This is bullshit, man.
This is bullshit you're going to book.
You're going to your book.
Respecting your opponent and wanting to crush your opponent.
I understand.
No, no, hold on.
The reason you're thinking this is, and it's fair.
right, but you think
Usdimir, he sucks, I'm going to beat him
even if I have a terrible day.
And that's what some of these guys thinks.
But then why is 159 and no
so great? It's because he was
able to get up every single time.
And I understand what you're saying about the
mental fatigue of getting up, but yes, if you're
going to be elite champion, if you're going to be the greatest of all time,
I want you to get up every time. I want you to be the best
you can be every single time. That's why I want to call you the greatest of all
time. So why in the world do you get guys like Islam
going, I don't really want to do rematches?
You saw last week, Panto's...
I don't know.
Why are so particular?
Nobody wants to do rematches.
They're like, again, it's that fatigue of the same thing.
And now it's like, you know and recognize how motivated you were when you were on the verge.
That champion is like, Ilya, who we're talking about, it's kind of like, I'd rather go fight Charles Oliverer.
Because I recognize the threat being so great that I have to get myself up.
Because if we are to believe history, right,
he just beat the two best feather weights we've seen in the last eight years.
You know who's just defended the title?
Why would Diem?
Yeah, I agree with you.
I mean, yes, I agree with you.
So you do agree with me?
I agree with that Diego Lopez is not quite on the level of the other guys you mentioned.
But I think a great champion gets ready and prepares for all opponents.
You respect the opponents, so you prepare adequately.
therefore you don't have a letdown.
I got two things.
Number one,
Alex Pereira has now defended his light heavyweight title.
I thought it was two times.
It is three times.
So he's someone who is actually now defending his title.
And, you know,
he's getting a lot of street credit for showing up and fighting again.
But,
man,
does this mean,
are fighters actually,
like,
kind of soft?
Because you think,
like,
football players,
generally I thought of football players is being kind of wimpy.
But these dudes got to show up like 20 weeks a year.
Like,
these fighters got to show up three times,
right?
But Ben,
that's not.
Fair.
Why is it enough?
Fighters don't show up three times.
Fighters show up.
Think about this.
If you do three fights, three fights only, you train for 36 weeks a year to compare.
Yeah.
That's more than half the year.
But I'm sure football players train for that long, too.
They're doing 20 weeks like you just said.
No, hell no, you're wrong.
They're doing 20 weeks of competition.
20 weeks of competition, but I'm sure they're doing some practice before that, right?
They're training, bro, but I'm saying like preseason, 24, 25 weeks total.
I'm telling you, it's different, dude.
I can't believe you.
What are you going to tell me next?
That basketball players get up at 5 o'clock in the morning and get up 100 shots?
I mean, that is literally like, you're going crazy to me right now.
I don't understand.
Well, I'm just saying, like, I don't think if we're talking about competition,
and we're talking about being like the greatest of all time and being a great champion,
I don't think it's insane to expect someone to
defend their belt, say, three times a year.
I think three is fair.
Three is fair.
And whoever wants to show up.
I have the belt.
This is my way class.
Whoever wants to show up.
Come on.
I'll whip your ass.
And then, you know, you did that for a little while.
So would you pick Lopez over, Ilya?
No, of course not.
Well, Luis is over here saying crazy shit right now, like in the chat.
I think DePori Luis is so stupid.
I don't know why.
dude.
No, Ben.
Luis does that in the child.
I'm like, shut up, Luis.
Guys, this is what Luis said.
I think Deporia doesn't want the Lopez fight.
Lopez is a monster, and he's been public about being unafraid of Ilya.
You're going to, when I'm sitting there with Ilya, Luis, and you're sitting there
behind the camera, don't, don't be sad when I tell Ilya what you said.
No, Diego said, I'm telling you.
I respect everyone, but I'm not afraid of anyone.
if there's anything I don't have, it's fear.
I think I've shown that in all my fights.
I've shown that I'm not afraid of anyone.
As many times as he wants to point to the ground,
I will plant my feet in the middle of the cage
and throw down is that easy.
I wouldn't advise that against the Tuporia.
So if Duporia wants to move up, whatever, cool, I see it,
then move up, right?
But if you're really a 145-pounder,
then just stay and defend your division.
You have at least two more solid defenses,
and Lopez and Evolay,
Evelio, whatever's damn name is.
Evloev.
Yes, him.
You have at least two more solid defenses,
and then maybe it gets a little thin after that, right?
Maybe you throw Bryce Mitchell or something again.
Bryce Mitchell?
He beat him already.
He beat Bryce Ben.
That's that again.
I know.
It's so bad.
Hey, man,
how about the fact that Ilya has a $2 million dollar gym already in his basement?
We talked about it.
His wife is he married into money or something.
Oh, he did?
Yeah, we talked about this one time a couple months ago.
Oh, man, that's crazy.

Dude, did you see Marab de Wilesh feeling beating up that guy the other day?
You told me he was a plant, though.
I swear, bro.
The guy in the audience.
The guy in the audience.
You told me he was a plant.
Did you see it, though?
Did you see the pictures?
I said, dude, you can look it up.
Look on the internet, a fan that Marab hit.
You liked the internet.
Look at it on your phone.
bro, there's like a picture of Marab fighting this guy.
Somebody had an explanation.
Next thing you know, I see the guy in pictures with Kabib and Omar.
He's like with Omar's team.
Yeah, so, I mean, he probably deserved to get punched in, right?
Wait, why?
Why would he deserve to get punched?
Because Umar was antagonizing Marab at the, at the press conference.
That was weird, though.
Like, why was Marab so mad at the press conference?
I don't know.
He was mad.
I mean, maybe there's some Georgian, uh,
Georgian and Russian heat or something.
He said you need to be a man for show respect to Umar.
But I don't know what happened.
But how about the hot tub picture?
I like that he brought that up.
What hot tub picture?
What a hot tub picture?
Stop.
You've never seen the hot tub picture?
I've never seen it.
What picture?
Are you kidding me right now?
Where to God?
What picture?
You're lying, Daniel.
You're messing with me.
Luis,
Luis, get us this hot tub picture.
He's a teammate, yes.
Luis said.
Wait, put it in the chat.
Put it in the chat.
Oh, my God.
I can't believe.
Hold on.
He's going to get it for us and you're going to die.
What is it, though?
It's all the Dagestani's in a hot tub together.
Luis, could you please bring it up?
What?
And this is not real, bro.
That's real.
That is a fake picture.
No, it's not.
That is a fake picture.
Daniel, that is real.
Bro, I can't believe Louise edited this.
That is real.
That's real.
I can't believe you've never seen this.
Is this real?
Yes, it's real.
Have you really never seen it?
singer rap this is real that's what i'm saying like listen daniel you can sit in the song with the boys you aren't sitting this close to the boys
well it's a small hot tub that's why they all in there take charge or something yes i never heard this
i had no i didn't realize that picture it's edited it's no it's not that's real it's edited
louise did it on this spot louis did it ask your friend kabib that is a crazy photo too many people in a hot toe
It's like a bathtub
They edited my boy
It's not even a real hot tub
And you can't even get mad though
Because you sit in a sauna with 30 people
In an 8 person song
I don't sit that close
I don't sit that close
We have sat 30 people
Ben
I still remember 2008
You came into the sauna
And you're like
I gotta get some fluids
Before I caught waiting
I'm watching you drink
And I'm like
This is a terrible strategy
Like you're just drinking
You just have to sweat that back out
But Ben
Let me ask you this
What
OTC sauna.
It's made for eight people.
I never sat there.
We sat in there 30 people at one time.
No, you are lying.
Man.
Get the pictures.
Are you?
Well, we don't have any pictures, but it was hot.
I never sat with that many people.
Now that I think about it, we called it the Russian sauna.
It was a 30-minute sauna.
You remember that?
It was like a 30-minute straight sauna.
The Russian sauna.
There was not that many people in there, though.
There were 30 people in that freaking that sauna.
I can't believe you.
The day is going to be in the comments on this.
one they're gonna be up with that is it bad is it bad that um they're fighting these guys
though like fans um i mean you know if it's so dangerous actually an enemy combatant then uh i
suppose have at him but yeah i generally don't think fighting fans is a good idea
hey that boy that boy umarab said they asked mara what was their favorite umar and islam
their favorite moment together maraub said how about a jacuzzi how about jacuzzi how about
His son said you could come.
Umar said I was not there.
Umar said he was there, dog.
This is real.
I got the real photo.
Dang,
dog.
That's so crazy.
I'm just happy that my friends can all like embrace
being close to each other like that.
That means they're real friends,
real teammates.
They love each other.
That's a little too close.
I don't know.
It's like I don't want I.
Ben,
you can't say nothing when we wrestle.
Some of the positions that you get in in wrestling with the funk?
It's one versus another.
It's not seven dudes.
You're so crazy.
You're so crazy.
Hey, and Nate Diaz was fighting with Islam and them too.
He fights everybody, except him and Nate and Nick don't get in the ring really anymore.
Because wasn't Nick?
Didn't they reschedule Nick like two or three times?
Or he was supposed to fight Vicente Lucke.
Yeah.
Submitted Timba Garimbo the other day.
What did you say?
Timba Garimbo.
That's not real.
That's not a real name, is it?
Is that real?
Timber Garimbo.
I remember, I heard Terry Bray on.
say what are those damn names
of the airports in
Moscow? Domodendivo
and Sheramenevo or something? I'm like,
oh, you made that shit up. Like, there's not the real
name. You thought I made up that name
Timber Garumbo? Yes.
His name is Timu Garimbo. I swear to God, he's the guy that the
Rock bought the house for. I still think you're making it up.
Hey, you know, it's kind of funny.
I saw Terry, I saw Tom Brands
in Denver a couple weeks ago.
They just got done beating
Oregon State and a dual meet.
And he will, I'm walking through the airport after leaving Salt Lake City and somebody grabbed me by the arm.
And it was Tom Brins.
And he didn't, bro, he didn't say nothing.
He grunted at me a few times.
They just walked away?
No, he did.
I was like, I swear to God.
I swear to God.
He goes, Prouty.
We hug.
We hugged.
You hug?
Five times.
Like, we hugged five times.
When I see Tom Brands, bro, I get super excited because I'm like a massive fan of his.
We hugged five times.
times.
I just don't believe this right now.
Are you making this up?
I swear to God.
We were standing in front of the restaurant,
and I was like, he grabbed me,
and he goes, proud of it, proud of it.
I said, coach, I gave him a hug.
I was like, man, it's so good to see you.
I hugged him again.
And then I was like, I didn't know what to do after that,
so I hugged him again.
Oh, my gosh.
Hug like five times.
It's crazy.
All right.
So, hey, we wanted to talk about U.S.
311 and you invited me,
but now I've made fun of it.
of the Dagestani's.
Yeah, you're done.
I don't know.
I was going to see if you can come and maybe we do our live show from Los Angeles.
Guys, in the comments, tell us, do you want me and Ben to do our live show from L.A.?
I think it would be fun.
You guys come out, sit with us, talk with us.
We'll call it a night with Funky and the Champ.
We'll put some liquor on the table, Ben, a smoker's lounge.
It'll be so fun a night with Funky and the Champ.
What do you think about that, Ben?
I mean, I think it'd be fun if I don't get attacked.
I always think about these shows, you know,
Like I just sit here at my house in Wisconsin and I just talk shit.
And it's like, I know I'm making someone upset.
I hope they're not too mad at me.
We're having a good time.
Yeah, they're going to throw bottles at you.
But the U.S. 311, Armand versus Islam.
Going to be a lot of fun.
Good fight.
Yeah, a lot of heat.
Umar versus Marab is going to be a good fight too.
So much fun also.
So many ethnicities here.
We got Georgians.
We got Dagestanis.
We got, what is Armand again?
Armenian.
Albanian.
Oh, yeah.
There's a huge Armenian community in Los Angeles.
Yes.
It's going to be crazy.
You think L.A. is going to be better than it was because for a while it got really bad.
L.A. got bad.
I couldn't even go there anymore.
I have not been in a very long time, so I don't know what to tell you.
So this is another reason that you should go.
Guys, from Ben Aspern, I'm Daniel Cormier.
That's another episode of Funkie and the champ.
Like, subscribe, and tell your friends about my YouTube channel
and tell them that I'm hanging out with the boy Ben Ashton.
Until next time.
Peace.
Hey guys, it's us
The Jonas Brothers.
I'm Joe.
I'm Kevin.
And I'm Nick.
And guess what?
We created our own podcast called,
Hey Jonas.
We invented a podcast?
Well, we didn't invent it.
We just contributed to it out.
We get to ask other people to do podcasts.
We get to ask other people questions because we're sick and tired of being asked questions.
Well, sick and tired is a strong way to put it.
But, you know, tired and sick.
Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Just listen.
We don't care where you hear it.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and Friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.

It's our favorite time of the year on our podcast, Point Game, the playoffs.
We're digging into the biggest surprises of the season.
And I'm looking back on some of my greatest playoff moments.
If we didn't talk ever again, I was crying.
You just understood.
That's how personal it got.
Wow.
Then after that game 7, Marquis come up to you, he's like, you know I love you, dog.
You know, it's all love.
This was just playoffs.
This was just basketball.

Your husband is not who you think he is.
Your body is not what you thought it was.
Your identity is formed by a secret history.
I'm Danny Shapiro, and these are just a few of the stunning stories
I'll be exploring on the 14th season of Family Secrets.
He kind of shoved me out of the way and said, move.
And he went out the front door and he jumped in a car and drove off,
and that was the last time I saw him.
Listen to Season 14 of Family Secrets on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
or wherever you get your podcasts.
Every family has its secrets.
But what happens when you discover that your dad has been living a double life?
That is not the look of an innocent man.
Is everyone lying to me about who they are?
I felt such desperation.
I felt it was what I had to do.
