This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On The Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.

Daniel!
All right, guys.
UFC 303 has just ended.
And once again, Alex Pereira.
Defenses Championship against Jira Perra Haska.
But this time, it was even more dominant.
You know, the first time they fought,
Yuri had moments.
He was able to hurt Pereira with his hands.
He was able to secure a takedown and win the first round
on just about everybody's scorecard.
He had moments.
He did a really good job.
And then ultimately he got caught, dropped, and finished.
But if I'm being completely,
honest, I don't even have the words anymore for Alex Pereira. You know, the first round where he might
have struggled a little bit to get the timing of Prohachka, this time he had it right away. Landed
some beautiful jabs to his body. Every time Yuri tried to close distance, he would make him pay,
went back to the kicks, but not nearly as many as he did before. Tom, he seems to be getting better.
And, you know, I don't know that Alex Pereira, even though he's the man right now, as Miles breaks everything down, he's not complete.
He still is learning.
He's learning on the job and has already become one of the greatest fighters that we've seen in the octagon.
If you are forced to stand with this man, you are in dire, like, you're in extreme danger.
You are in extreme danger if you have to strike with him.
You know, Yuri tried to be more cautious.
He tried to make sure he didn't leave many openings.
He really did try to measure himself in the way that he went out of Alex.
That didn't matter.
Perra just kept picking him apart.
That jab to the body, which we have seen him do time and time again,
was effective. The kicks were effective. And at the very end of the first round, like clockwork,
left hook lands. Boom. Down Vosieri. Yuri was hurt so bad at the end of the first round. He was
waving at Alex. Like, come on, grapple with me, grapple with me. He didn't even realize that the bell
had rang. And the round was over. Second round starts. Pereira comes out, switch kick,
knocks Yuri down. Yuri falls. Look, it's so scary when he's finishing people.
Then I turned into a carrot.
Start yelling, please.
I will stop the fighter.
Stop the fight.
It's over.
Alex actually tried to stop it.
But when he realized her, it wasn't going to jump in there.
He went out and just kept beating on it.
Like, it's insane to watch this man operate.
To operate at this level so early in his career, it's not even three years.
Since he's been on the UFC roster, and he has now won the UFC middleweight championship.
One of the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship.
And defended it twice.
Defended it twice.
And tonight he beat a guy that beats everybody else.
Yuri was as close to Alex in terms of getting there fast as anyone we've seen outside of Israel, Adasanya.
And he wiped him out.
He beat him in a way where it wasn't even competitive.
Now, does he have people to fight?
Absolutely.
He still has Ankalayao out there.
He still has that fight.
But outside of Ankalai, he's.
I don't know right now who he could fight because Jamal Hill didn't fight tonight so he didn't get a win to put himself back in position to get a rematch.
I believe Uncle I have will be tough for him because Uncle I have the ability to take him down.
But with that being said, there's that danger in trying to get to a position to take him down.
Danger in that.
You don't just close distance on Alex Pereira.
He makes you pay every time you step forward towards him.
Joe spoke to him about going up to heavyweight.
I love that.
If there's anybody that can do it, it's this dude.
He's huge.
He weighed 232 pounds today.
He waited at 205 yesterday.
He weighed 232 stepping into the octagon.
He is not a middleweight.
He is a light heavyweight, and I still don't know how he ever made middle weight.
The guy's tremendous.
He really is exactly what you need as an organization to continue to build fight
cards around. It's unbelievable. I'm running out of words to describe this dude. And every time
you know he's playing with fire. You know that when you're fighting the most dangerous people in the
world every single time, you run the risk of getting beat in all the momentum that he has cornered.
And that short period of time can be gone. But then he goes out there and he does the same thing
that he's done time and time again. And then you wonder why you have a question. He's very special.
him and Clover and Plinio
and the team that they have built around this man
next level
uh
congrats to the champ
I mean
I don't know when he'll
dude broke his toe
and then shifted it back in the place after the fight
they said he was in the locker room
telling Plineo and Glover
he does something different
when you go after him
so I'm going to catch him with a head kick
and then he goes out and he doesn't
it's
it's amazing
to watch and I'm just happy that I get to be a part of these amazing performances in these big
moments. Then he gets stepped in on two hours notice. Guys, tonight was the craziest shit I've
ever seen. I've never seen anything like this. We start getting work. Sit next to Shaw Shelby.
He tells me what's happening. I go, you are crazy. He goes, yeah, dude, it's crazy.
He said, don't tell anyone. I'm like, I can't wait until Roegan.
finds out because I know he's going to lose it.
Ortega's heard.
Diego Lopez needs an opponent.
Inge is getting a massage.
He's getting a massage.
Drives to the arena.
Get Sean Strickland.
Hey, can you come corner me?
And fights tonight on two hours notice.
Comes in steps on a scale 164 pounds.
They fight at 165.
That was honestly one of the most special things I've ever seen.
I've never seen someone.
And doesn't show up in shape and ready to go.
He showed up in shape and ready to go on two hours notice.
You want to give him a lot of credit for what he did because he deserves that.
But we cannot keep so much praise on him that we forget what Diego Lopez did.
Now, Diego Lopez did exactly what he was supposed to do.
He got down 146 pounds and went to bed on Thursday night.
I'm done.
Thank God, I'm done.
A hard weight cut, guys.
He had a hard weight cut to get down to 145, 146.
He did that.
This kid is sleeping.
They wake him up in the middle of the night, tell him,
Brian's not going to better make the weight.
We have to move it to 155, so he need a hydrate.
He has to gain 10 pounds to weigh 156.
He gets up, he does that.
Makes the weight yesterday morning, 155.
All day, he's.
spends the day, today shows up to the arena, thinking he's going to fight at 155.
They tell him, hey, Ryan's out.
He's got a fever.
You got to fight 165.
So you have to weigh in again.
Danigay shows up.
That kid shows up to the arena.
From the moment he gets to the arena, he goes right to the weighing scale, weighs in that 161.
He only put on 15 pounds from Thursday night.
Even though he had all day yesterday to rehydrate, he was only six pounds heavier.
than he was when he stepped on the scale.
That's because he was in such great shape.
He had shrunk his body,
so no matter what he took in,
he was never going to be heavier
than like 160, 161 pounds.
Makes the weight,
goes out there and does enough to get the job done.
I don't think he lost anything.
Whereas Dan Iga gained and taking this fight,
so did Diego Lopez.
Hats off to Diego.
He went from fighting.
The top three guy in his weight
to fighting the number 13.
team guy in his weight on two hours notice and still got it done.
So this young man should be credited for what he did out there today.
It was amazing to watch.
It was a special, special moment watching these two gentlemen perform under those circumstances
and performing the way that they did.
Macy Chasseau, great job for Ian Garry, got it done against Michael in the page.
That was not easy.
Also, Joe Piper got back on the winning.
track um look phenomenal paid and talbot guys i know he's young i notice the kid that loves to talk
and i thought to myself who is this dude talking like that let me tell you something that kid is
the real deal i hadn't watched this fights what i do with the new guys is i watch one of dare
fights because i want to retain what i'm seen when i watched him beat on camera simon i was like wow
this dude's the real deal he is absolutely the real deal i will stand by this one because he
got a little bit louder on his post fights, I think he would resonate much quicker.
I didn't even fight anybody.
I really think this kid right now can fight guys in the top 15.
He is that specialist, a talent.
But these years Olavera had another great performance.
Very fun to watch him.
Control and dominate.
Ricky Simone, the way that he did.
Rea, Soraya, Japanese kid.
Great job.
Came out there with Sinski.
Kumura, it was tremendous.
Guys, another great night.
I mean, Jean Silva, unbelievable.
Another great night from T-Mobile Arena.
Another great UFC pay-per-view.
It was a phenomenal night.
But once again, the night belongs to L'Experr.
But to me, just one of the craziest nights I have ever been a part of them putting that
fight together as the night went on.
Again, I will never take you watching my videos for granted.
I love each and every morning.
Tell your friends,
tell your friends
that DEC has got a YouTube channel.
I'm doing stuff like this
from the Octoran side.
Every single UFC paper paper.
I love each and everyone.
Until next time, peace.
