Daniel Cormier IS BACK to give you his INSTANT REACTION to the biggest news in the UFC and MMA, and Islam Makhachev is stealing headlines after saying HE WILL fight Jack Della Maddalena to secure doub...le-champ status! DC reacts to Islam saying that he not only will get the fight with JDM, but also DOES NOT have to give up his UFC championship at lightweight. Plus, Cormier talks about fans missing out on Ilia Topuria vs. Makhachev, and if in fact Ilia is fighting Charles Oliveira in a No. 1 contender fight. And don't miss Cormier REVEAL that he was asked to face off against Jon Jones as a coach in the Russian spin off of the Ultimate Fighter show and why he had to turn down being on the show and going to Thailand. #VolumeSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Starting point is 00:04:04 what a weekend UFC 315 was. Jack Delamadalina is the UFC. Walter way champion in the world. Not many people thought that going in to the weekend, especially the people in the know. Guys, today's episode is brought to you by Total Wireless, the official wireless provider of UFC. They're in your corner with unlimited 5G data
Starting point is 00:04:24 that won't slow you down. Not many thought Jack would win, but immediately once Jack won, it was right on to the next. and it's been opinion after opinion after opinion between whether or not Belal Muhammad just fought wrong and how Jack Delamatta fought right. What happens next after the fight?
Starting point is 00:04:51 So much clarity came from it. So what I feel now, it is when we'll get into today's video, is it seems like Islam versus Jack Delamadelaanah. Joaquin Buckley had something to say about Islam in the way that he approached it, especially he said considering Islam called Belaw his brother. It says we're getting Ilya versus Charles Oliva now for the UFC championship at International Fight Week. Also Islamahachev is saying he's not giving up his championship.
Starting point is 00:05:25 So there is a lot of moving parts when it comes to one. 155, 170 right now. Let's start with what we know, all right? At least what we feel we know. Jack Della Madalena, we know this. Won the belt last week and beaten Belaw Muhammad. All right? After winning the belt, he had his eyes set on Islam Makachel.
Starting point is 00:05:51 But before that, some of the most high-level fighters weighed in on the fight of Belaw Muhammad. And one that really stood out to me was Robert Whitaker. So Robert Whitaker was watching the fight. And as we were watching the fight, it was like round one, two, three, we kept going, there's just not enough wrestling. Why is Belaw not wrestling?
Starting point is 00:06:10 It was very evident to not only us, but to Roba Whitaker also as Whitaker goes, why didn't we see more wrestling? I can't help but feel like Belaw was trying to make a point, making a point striking with Jack for the first three rounds. And if that's the case, that's ridiculous. Jack is amazing at that mid-range boxing, which he showed this weekend,
Starting point is 00:06:35 which was so crazy. He looked amazing in winning that belt, defended every takedown. He did just the great job of becoming the world champion. But right away, he gets asked about Mahacham. I did it inside the octagon. Intuity goes, he's great. He's a truly elite fighter.
Starting point is 00:06:55 I can't wait to fight him. He's done more pound for pound. I thought Jack Della did just about. everything right in the fight from the entry to the post fight to end the fight. I thought he did everything right in that fight. Even the response to Mokachev inside the octagon. Then after the fight, he was asked at the press conference about Mokachev and he said, come and get it.
Starting point is 00:07:19 I'm going to get you back for Volk because, you know, obviously Islam beat Volkanowski two times. In Volkanowski, the legend, the featherweight champion once again, in the UFC is held in such high regard by these fighters that you could tell when I asked about Jack Delam Adelina about standing along those guys, those great champions like Robert Whitaker, like Alexander Volcanowski, it felt like that was the first time I got some true raw emotion
Starting point is 00:07:46 out of the inside the octagon. He was still so measured. That's one thing you know about this kid when you meet him, when you talk to him, whether he's in front of a camera or behind the camera. He's like this. In regards to who Jack Delamette. Madelena is. In that moment when I said that, I could see his lip quiver a little bit, and he
Starting point is 00:08:03 almost broke down because he's probably been watching this for so long, watching those great Australian champions from Rob to Alexander to now view himself in that way. It was almost like it hit him inside the oxygen. I'm like, wow, I really am a UFC world champion like those guys that I looked up to for so long. But Islam right away responded, and he said, you are not Volk, he tweeted in response, I will show you a different level. Keep my belt clean. Makachev also wrote,
Starting point is 00:08:34 the time is now to become a double champion, which we'll get into here in a second. Obviously, inshallah, let's go. Become a double champion. But you see those guys now already know, hey, we're going to build this thing. We're going to try to make people tune into this thing. They're going to watch regardless.
Starting point is 00:08:54 It's a fantastic fight. It's a big, time fight and if Jack Della looks the way he did last week and it's very, very intriguing fight because we've never seen Islamakacha fight up at 170 pounds. We've never seen it. We've never seen him have to compete up 15 more pounds. Yes, he is a big dude. But in terms of full on stature, is he big as Jack Della Madalena is? And also, if he thought he may fight international fight week, how small had he gotten and how much time does he have to? And how much time does he have to put the weight back on the right way before he moves up to 170.
Starting point is 00:09:31 A lot of questions. A lot of questions. But it's a big time fight and we'll get into the X's and O's as we get closer. But right now we're talking the story. We're talking the story. We're talking about a guy that just beat Belaw Muhammad to become champion. Now getting child about a 155 pound champion who we thought or at least it seemed. I was literally giving the UFC all this praise last week about saying I'm not holding up
Starting point is 00:09:56 divisions anymore. You want to go up, give up the belt. Ilya Tepore you did it. And I even said, and you can go back to the video, I go, Islam's having to do it if he wants to chase a 170 pound bill. But he said he's not giving up the title. He actually wrote, Islam said, this Saturday's main event will define my next move. But regardless of the outcome of that fight, I'm not going to vacate my lightweight title. We might get a real contender there. All right, guys, it's the greatest time of the year, the NBA playoffs. Look, I don't care if you watch basketball all season or not. Starting point is 00:12:08 We have some big news. What's the news, new? Huge news. We created our own podcast called, Hey, Jonas. We invented a podcast? Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts.
Starting point is 00:12:19 Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how do we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it. Well, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down?
Starting point is 00:12:43 Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, for people could call in and say, hey Jonas, and then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas, and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:13:01 or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smigel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest,
Starting point is 00:13:18 S&L's Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidel help an a cappella band with their between songs banter. Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and Friends on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:36 The French Open is one of the toughest tests in tennis, and I know firsthand because I competed there myself. I'm Renee Stubbs, and on the Renee Stubbs' tennis podcast, I'm breaking down everything, happening at Roland Garris, every match, every upset, and what it really takes to win on Clay. Jen she went. I mean, she went down at three to Rabakina, but I'm delighted. She's an outsider to win the French for me.
Starting point is 00:14:01 And she likes Clay. Listen, Lina Rabakina is arguably the best player in the world right now, and I actually can win on any surface. Because if she's serving, well, good luck. Consider this your court side seat to the French Open. Listen to the Renee Stubbs Tennis podcast on the IHeart Radio app. Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts. Presented by Capital One, founding partner of IHeart Women's Sports. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
Starting point is 00:14:29 It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle. Grace. Listen to Superhuman on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:14:55 So essentially it seems like Makachev is open to bouncing up. And now we have not seen anyone do this, but Amanda Nunes. Go up to 145, beat fighters like Megan Anderson and those girls, and then go down to 135 and do what she did as the Bannamoy champion. It seems and feels like Makachev thinks he can do the same thing. That's difficult. That's hard, especially once you get that belt at the next weight class, why do I have to cut the weight when I'm the champion here? It's a very, very hard thing. You know, Islam if he is able to do this, would further cement himself as one of the greatest fighters of all time.
Starting point is 00:15:37 He really would. He would cement himself as one of the greatest of all time. I think he's already one of the greatest of all time. But by going up to 170, one of the things that he would not do was fight Bala Muhammad. And they were very clear about the hymn Bilal Muhammad about not wanting to fight each other. But then Joaquin Buckley writes,
Starting point is 00:15:57 crazy that you were praying for your so-called brothers downfall. That was Joaquin Buckley. So not only does Islam have an opportunity to become a world champion, he's already got guys up at 170 taking notice. Buckley who fights Kamau-Ushman now in what could be a number one contenders fight, Ian Gary is very aware of Islamahadjev.
Starting point is 00:16:21 He might be in a position where one more fighting, he's than I'm one contender. Obviously, he's fighting against the champion. Jack Delo and Madalina, he has so many options. But by leaving 155, it makes for a little bit of a hole because people want to see him fight Ilya to Poria. That's the only negative I've ever seen
Starting point is 00:16:42 or have seen out of this whole situation is that some of people are disappointed that now they feel like they won't get Makatchev versus Iliot to pour you. You know, there's a lot. There's a lot. I don't think Makachev was praying for Balala lose. I don't, I know the guy. I don't think that that's in him to want to see one of his friends lose
Starting point is 00:17:05 for himself to gain an opportunity. But what Buckley is doing from the trolling of Ian Garry to now trying to target Islam Akachev, It's one of the only ways he's truly going to find his way into those big fights that he wants so desperately. He beats Kumar Usman. Obviously, he'll be in line to get a great fight. But if he doesn't shake the bucket enough,
Starting point is 00:17:30 that big fight may end up being one of the more dangerous guys and not for a championship. So I get what Buckley is doing. Because if he can get Mahathev or Madelana to Delamadena to pay attention, to acknowledge him, to even be pissed off at him, then it puts him at the forefront of everybody's mind. It's crazy what's happening at 170 right now. And the boy, Tuporia, is going to go about his business
Starting point is 00:17:59 and fight Charles Oliver for the belt. But even on the Sunday after, he's like hitting pads in his gym saying, good morning to Islam. He's like not intimidated by Islam at all. And neither is Islam of Ilya, and that's why I think people are, disappointed than they're not getting this fight.
Starting point is 00:18:19 Because I think they feel when they watch it, that they would be watching two of the greatest fighters in the world finally locked themselves into the octagon. A lot going on. A lot going on. Great performance by Jack Della last weekend. Big time fight coming up with Islamakacha. Big time fight between Dubranks and Iliath-Tupoyah at International Fight Week.
Starting point is 00:18:42 But what happens next for all parties involved whenever we're we do get more answers because last week we got answers to the start. Now we're going to be in the middle. I want to see what the answers are like at the end when we know who stands amongst the greats. Because imagine, you got to think that if Iliate Tuporia wins the 155 pound belt and Islam wins the 170 pound belt, he's just going to want to go up to fight him there.
Starting point is 00:19:08 Or maybe he beats Charles Olivaire and as Islam said, I'm not giving up my title. He decides to go back down to fight Iliott. It's a poor you. There's so much going on. Also, crazy that this has become almost an afterthought. But Tom Aspinall has now said he's just done with the John Jones conversation. And either he gets a fight with Jones or he fights somebody else.
Starting point is 00:19:35 He's essentially done with it. He's done waiting. He's not doing it. While Jones is somewhere out in Thailand coaching a reality show, which, by the way, I was offered to coach against him. prior, but I didn't, I didn't accept it. I can't do a month in Thailand, opposite side, John Jones, especially when I can't fight that dude no more.
Starting point is 00:19:57 I mean, he beat me when I was fighting. I can't really fight today. I'm 46 years old. Like, come on, man. I mean, I would do it for fun, but I'm not ready to spend a month in Thailand. Guys, big things happening. I hope they make these fights, and I hope that we continue to get big news
Starting point is 00:20:14 that we can always look so forward to. So guys, once again, thank you so much for all the support. Last week in UFC 315, another great weekend for the channel. I appreciate you guys for always looking out for me. Until next time, like, subscribe, and tell your friends that DC's got a YouTube channel.
