This is an I-Heart podcast.
Guaranteed Human.
Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite.
Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman
help make you funnier.
This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel,
help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Where does your group perform?
We do some retirement homes.
Those people are starving for banter.
Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel
and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games.
Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes
for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app,
Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 was big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down,
and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild year.
It was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
A win is a win.

business is picking up, right? I know we talk about this a lot, but here's the deal.
It's the fight, or at least it feels like the fight. I know that.
when I'm talking to Ben, he was more of the belief that John Jones and Steep A should not fight.
We should move to Tom Aspenall, but I was of the belief that if anybody deserves an opportunity to say, I want this one, it's these two guys.
It's these two guys.
They have done enough in the sport to where if they go, I want to fight John Jones, I get to fight John Jones.
But Tom Aspinall, while I thought he completely fumbled the post-fight interview with me in Manchester,
seems to be frustrated.
And honestly, frustration might be good right now because in frustration,
you start to really show your true feelings on the situation.
Now, he was very respectful in that interview.
but Chale and I had a discussion the other day about post-fight interviews,
and what does respectful get you?
Doesn't really get you all that you want.
Now, respects out the window with this dude,
and he's just telling it how it is.
But here's one thing about John Jones,
and this could be from me because I know,
because I'm a person that lived it with him.
The thing about John Jones,
he doesn't like disrespect.
he can't ignore it.
He can't ignore when you take shots at him.
That is why, as Chale said,
it was very easy to get under his skin.
Chale said he took his Halloween candy.
He got a response.
He ultimately got the fight.
Everybody knew Chale was lying.
But he got John's attention
because John felt disrespected.
And we as fighters don't like being disrespected,
especially one who has had as much success.
as John Jones has had.
And at the end of the day,
John Jones is a champion,
and he is a competitor.
So what happened today is,
and it's long been deleted,
but you guys know, man,
you can't really delete things on the internet.
So once it's out there,
it's pretty much out there.
So I got this off the Mac life.
Who, by the way, does a phenomenal job.
Oscar does great work for the site
and for their YouTube and everything else they do.
So John writes, this dude literally has my large in his mouth every week.
I'm flattered.
I absolutely guarantee he will not win more world championships than me.
That's truly all that matters at the end of the day.
There's been many champions.
No one like me.
I sleep good at night.
To that, Tom Aspernel goes.
John's right.
He won so many world championships than me.
He's won more world championships in me while using PEDs.
guys guys it's brilliant it's brilliant because as you know through the whole course of the
situation with john and i the one thing he always hated and the one thing that he wants to
prove more than anything is that he did not do peds the one thing that he doesn't want on his
record is an asterisk to the point that when yusada said john jones's levels were low like
on a pinch of salt in a swimming pool or something like that.
He said, I beat Usada, which, as we have discussed, you didn't beat Usada.
They just aren't saying, I don't remember what the fuck they said at the end of it.
But he wanted to prove, I didn't do that.
So Tom Aspinall attacking that part of what he has done will really make him jump in and go,
I can't stand that dude.
when somebody says they can't stand you, ultimately they choose to fight you.
Tom Aspinall now is finally, he's poked and he's poked and he's poked and he's poked.
And while neither me or chale or anyone else that got under the skin of Jones
as told him directly, this is the path.
He finally has found the thing that will ultimately get him closer to that fight.
Does that fight happen?
I don't know.
I don't know.
And honestly, I don't know if it's in John's best interest to take this fight.
Because this kid's young.
This kid's excited.
This kid wants everything that he has had.
And that makes him dangerous.
And I'm going to be honest with you.
I didn't have the same view of Tom Aspinall as Michael Bissping and some of those guys did initially.
But I'm slowly starting to buy into the idea that this dude is the future of the heavyweight division.
Now, I would love to see him in there with a show.
striker like Cyril Gahn or one of those other guys.
But when I watch him, I think that he is something different than what we have seen
in a very long time in the heavyweight division.
Because while Francis and Gano was so great, he wasn't a well-rounded guy like you see
in Tom Asphenol.
Francis, while he was awesome, the one area that Steeper really did take advantage of was
the wrestling.
And we will not pretend that Francis is now some high-level wrestling guy.
even though he was able to out wrestle Cyril Gahn.
This guy just seems to be next.
He just seems to be next.
And when you're speaking of retirement,
as we have heard John do on many occasions,
now you don't really want to see the guy that's next.
You don't want to see that next generation
because, like he has said multiple times,
I beat so many generations of fighters,
and that he did.
And that is what made him great.
But can he go through four generations?
He went through the Whoa Generation,
Mauritio and those guys, those guys were the best.
Then he went to the generation of guys like myself,
who were the best at the time,
and Rashad and Gustafson.
Then he went through the generation where he beat Dominic Reyes,
and he beat Cyril Ghan,
and he beat Tiago Santos.
Santos, I think his name is.
Those guys were that generation of fighters.
He's been through three generations of fighters.
Does he have enough in the tank to go through another generation of guys?
Does he?
That would be a big ass for anyone.
But when you look at this guy,
this guy seems like,
I don't know,
especially when you're looking at fighting a guy that's 42 years old
and hasn't fought in three and a half years.
For a massive payday,
possibly the biggest payday of his career.
Didn't he say like $15 million or something a while back?
But I believe also ultimately,
right now Tom Aspinall,
while poking and prodding,
finally has touched on the thing
that will ultimately make John Jones go, my God, I cannot stand this dude.
I need to deal with him.
Because when you accuse him of that, that's where he gets worked up.
And at the end of the day, and it's not me, John doesn't live for it free in my head.
John doesn't do this.
John doesn't do it.
At the end of the day, that's something valid to touch on because at the end of the day,
he was accused and proven that he did those things.
There's proof.
There's proof.
So if I'm Tom Aspinall, I'm staying down this path.
I am not getting off of it.
I'm going to continue down this path,
continue to mess with that to hopefully upset him.
You know,
Tom has also said he's going to be on reserve for New York City.
A lot will be learned about these three heavyweights
as we get closer to Madison Square Garden.
Because if somebody gets hurt
and then the next guy doesn't want to fight Aspinall, it's a problem.
It's different because do you call last year, Tom Aspinall was ready, or Sergei Pavlovich, honestly, was on standby for if someone got hurt.
John got hurt.
Stipe didn't fight Sergei Pavlovich.
So to me, it just feels like these two legends want to fight each other and nobody else.
Who am I or who has been Ascran?
Who are we to judge the fact that these dudes have put in enough goodwill with the boss that they get to make a choice that they want to fight each other?
Dana seems so stubborn on this fight that I don't know if it changes.
But Tom Aspinall sitting and waiting and Tom Aspinall saying, I will be in shape.
I will be ready to go.
And now having this, where they're having these types, hey, John Jones, when he gets mad and he starts to show his true self, he wants to insult you.
and right now he's insulting Tom Aspenall
by saying that he's blowing him every week, right?
The insults get a little nastier.
I know this because I lived it.
Nobody else can tell you this at this level
because I lived it.
I know what the insults look like
when you start to get to him.
I am telling you guys right now he is starting to get to him,
starting to get to John Jones.
And when you get to him, that's when you possibly get the fight.
Hey, and look,
In my case, it didn't work out.
I got what I wanted and it did not work out.
We don't know what's going to happen with this dude.
This dude's young.
He's hungry.
He's big as all can be.
And he seems like he wants to fight this dude.
So I'm interested to see what comes to this.
I'm interested to see what comes of this old John Jones,
Tom Aspinall deal that seems to be picking up steam.
And I'm here for it.
I'm here for it.
Dana White made a big announcement yesterday.
talking about he's got big fights coming up for Chandler, Volk, Charles, and Connor, surprisingly.
He said that Connor was not going to fight in this calendar year.
There still is no card for December.
Vegas is where the fight card will take place in December.
Connor McGregor needs to fight in Vegas.
He will fight Michael Chandler seemingly.
So it seems as though
when the boss went public instead
started to say,
well, this guy's not fighting.
It almost lit a fire in Connor McGregor.
It seems like we're getting closer and closer.
And then if you listen in the words,
it said, Charles versus Volk.
I've got big news.
Charles versus Volk?
Make that and sign me up
if those two are fighting each other.
Because that's one of those fights
that is guaranteed.
to be explosive.
Last thing.
So I was with Umar and the mega met off the other day.
I go, why don't you or why didn't you,
just say I'll be the backup fighter for Al Jermaine Sterling
versus, uh, no, not Al Jermaine Sterling.
He's not the champ.
It's, uh, Sean O'Malley versus Marab de Wattelishvili.
He goes, why would I be the backup fighter when I am already the best in the world?
That's his thought.
That's his belief.
So he's not going to be the backup guy,
but as we know, there are backup fighters tied to every single fight in championship nowadays.
Who's the guy?
Who's the guy?
That's the question we should all be asking.
Why are we not asking?
Who's the backup fighter?
Maraub weighed in whenever Al Jermaine fought Sean.
Sergei was going to weigh in when Steve A was fighting John.
Chandler, when he first got...
Look at that thumb of thing that I always do.
Chandler, when he first got here, weighed in.
in Abu Dhabi when Justin Khabi fought,
I think that's what it was,
our Islam versus Charles.
There's always people that weigh in.
So you know who it was?
It was a, it was a,
Gamrod, I think, was the backup when Islam fought last year against Volt.
Or he was going to be the backup with Islam and Charles,
but then Volk ended up stepping in for him,
which doesn't make much sense.
If the backup fighter still available,
why do you bring in another guy?
It is what it is.
There's always a backup.
Why is Omar not on standby?
Who's the backup for this fight at this fear?
That's the biggest fight card that they've ever paid for.
There's got to be a backup.
We need to find out who it is, guys.
Hey, things are picking up at heavyweight.
I think we're closer today to John Jones and Tom Aspinall fighting than we've ever been
because I'm telling you, I don't know John Jones personally.
I don't know him like that, but I do know him in beef.
and in beef,
disrespect is always what gets you closer to fighting him.
Tom Aspinall is being disrespectful now.
And I think that is going to work to his advantage
in terms of getting this fight.
Even if John goes through and fights,
Steve-A, he might stick around
to try to deal with the Tom Aspinall issue
if you're in the Tom,
if you're in the John Jones camp,
the issue has become Tom Aspinall
because of the disrespect.
But, hey, I don't mind the disrespect.
The disrespect makes the fight fun.
And these two dudes are disrespecting each other
and I'm here for.
All right, guys.
Thank you as always for joining.
I appreciate your love and support.
Until next time, like, subscribe,
and tell you friends about my YouTube channel
because we drop it stuff like this.
Hey, and only I know how to deal with Jones
because I'm the only one that had real beef with him.
Till next time, peace.
