Starting point is 00:03:54 presented by Total Wireless, the official wireless provider of UFC. They're in your corner with unlimited 5G data that will not slow you down. So I've been away a little bit, you know, kind of getting my, my fight team going and everything and we've been working. But I've got to tell you guys, I didn't even imagine that it would go as fast as it has. We've got three guys fighting contended series, one guy fighting Noche UFC with so many more on the verge of getting a chance to break through and getting to the UFC. So very happy coach right now. Another happy coach is my friend Habibner-Megamatov because why wouldn't he be? When you are coaching some of the best fighters in the world and a great team as a coach,
Starting point is 00:04:41 you can ask for nothing more. But there's only one prize pupil of team Habib, and that's Islam Makachev. Islam Machicev is the UFC or was the UFC lightweight champion. Now, Islam obviously is fighting for the wealth weight title against Jack Delamadena in New York, if you are to believe what Habib said at his last sit down. Habib has a lot of thoughts on not only is, Islam in his career and influence, but he also has a lot of thoughts on the 155 pound division as a whole of the division that he once ruled with an iron fist, who is now, which is now ruled
Starting point is 00:05:19 by the new champion, Ilya Teporia. We have spoke so much about all the confusion at 155, all the issues at light wage, especially with the new champ and then the old champ going up and, and Patty going into the octagon. when he wasn't supposed to and all these other things. But when asked, straight up, who Habib thought the best lightweight in the world was, he said, without a question,
Starting point is 00:05:50 without a question, it was Armand Sirukion, right? Stating, I don't believe that Ili would have much of a chance, he told Camille Gadsieff, championship rounds. Armand fights too well at range. against strikers he keeps his distance well works better with his kicks and now
Starting point is 00:06:11 Armand's improved a lot he has footage that he can study and analyze if they fought three years ago maybe he would have been cautious but now you can clearly see what dangers to pour your brings I believe that right now Armand Syruquian is the best lightweight in the world I understand that I understand all that he said right because That's not just Habib not liking Ilya. That's not Habib just saying something that is against the guy that his prized people seems to have an issue with. This is a pretty good breakdown.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Here's where I differentiate from him when it comes to the thought. All we've seen Ili to pour you do is beat people up. And honestly, for as much better as Armand's gotten, I've gotten better too. Now, I am I by no mean saying, that Armand cannot fight Iliate Tuporia, and he might be the best lightweight in the world. But Tuporia has the belt now,
Starting point is 00:07:14 and because of that, and the way that he looked doing it, Iliate Tuporia is the best lightweight in the world to me. Why? Because common opponents, I know MMA math doesn't work, but in common opponents, Iliate Tuporia did away with Charles Olaver. Say Charles Olavera fought the wrong fight, whatever. But he had moments against Armand Thurukia.
Starting point is 00:07:34 He never looked in the fight with Iliu, and honestly, Not many people have. Max Holloway fought well at the beginning of the first round. Josh Emmett had no chance. He just got beat on the whole time. Very few people. The worst we saw was when the kid from England,
Starting point is 00:07:53 Jai Herbert, dropped Ilya. But then ultimately, he got up and he finished him. The poor is tough. He's very, very good. So that's why I disagree. But for the most part, I do agree with his assessment. Armand's much better today than he was before. Armine has improved tremendously. Armine's big and physical so that could be an issue.
Starting point is 00:08:14 But I don't know, man. It's hard to look at Iliy Teporia and feel like if you're not watching him fight Islam Makachev. You're watching the best guy in the weight class. Just the true. All right, guys, it's the best time of the year. College football is back. Starting point is 00:10:02 Well, we didn't invent it. We just contributed to it. We're the first people to do podcasts. Pretty, yeah, pretty wide range of podcasts throughout there. But this one's extra special. So how did we actually come up with a name, Hey Jonas, guys? I honestly don't remember. I think it was on a call about what we should call it.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Oh, we were thinking I'm originally calling it one of the early names of our band. Before Jonas Brothers was... This is how you guys remember it going down? Yes. I have a very different memory of this. We were talking about a thing, a bit for the podcast, where people could call in and say, hey, Jonas. And then I wrote down on my little notepad, Hey Jonas,
Starting point is 00:10:39 and offered it up as a potential title for the podcast. But thanks for remembering that, guys. Listen to Hey Jonas on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Just listen. We don't care where you hear it. Another podcast from some SNL late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.

Starting point is 00:11:31 of my own experience in the mental health field and conversations with so many incredible guests. I'm talking. Trip Fontaine, Ryan Clark. Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing, we get so wrapped up in the chase that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing. And we're still chasing it.
Starting point is 00:11:49 And we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross. Because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth. Are you a good person? because you're afraid.
Starting point is 00:12:02 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Join me, Keer Gaines, as we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, Learn the Hardway.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Open your free, Our Heart Radio app. Search Learn the Hardway and listen now. Jacob Kingston grew up in an isolated polygamous sect. We were God's chosen kingdom on earth. He felt destined for great. So when a swaggering Armenian businessman catapults Jacob into an extraordinary world, he doesn't look back. Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, meeting the president of Turkey. I'm Michelle McPhee, and this is one of the most shocking criminal conspiracies I've ever come across.
Starting point is 00:12:51 When Jacob met Levant this went to a billion dollar fraud. But with two kings from entirely different worlds, just how long can their empire? survive. The largest tax investigation in American history. You need to tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me? Jacob told Levan, you're ruining my life. Listen to Kingdom of Fraud on the I-Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Because we also said, Armand can take people down. That's something we haven't really seen Ilya deal with much. But if I'm being honest, people tell me that Ili is real base. is as a grappler so I don't know but Armine is a tremendous wrestler physically strong
Starting point is 00:13:39 big he's a real lightweight that could provide possess some skills that could potentially be an issue the armand has good elbows on the ground very good elbows he can grapple submit take the back I'd say it's 80-20 in Armand's favor his wrestling pressure physicality all of that matters he's tall about almost 10 centimeters if I'm not mistaken he's heavier and on fighting night he'll be the bigger man and of course wrestling plays a huge role especially in fights like this this part of abeem's assessment outside of the 80 20 armagh that's more of a 50 50 60 40 uh fight but uh outside of that i agree with the assessment i believe that there are issues to be had
Starting point is 00:14:28 for toporia sarukin can present him because he has good wrestling I know, like I said, I've been told Tuporia has better wrestling grappling. He does most other things, but all I've seen him do is knocking people out. I haven't seen him deal with a wrestler at the caliber of Armand's Rukyan. Josh I'mad's a good wrestler, but he's not Armand. He's not as big. He's not as physical. He doesn't present the same skill set and problems that Armand's Rukyan could potentially present for Iliot Teporia.
Starting point is 00:15:02 So yes, I agree there. 80-20 is crazy, though. Come on, man. 80-20 is hard when anyone's fighting. 80-20, the only time 80-20 could be thought of in fights has been in the case of Khabib and John Jones. They're the only people that have gone through this whole thing without losing. They are the only two.
Starting point is 00:15:24 So you could have possibly said, well, yeah, it's probably 80% that guy's way. Because they never lose. But guess who else has lost? I'll eat to pour you. So to put him on the opposite side of that 80, 20 is crazy to me. I don't believe that for one second. I really do disagree with Habib on that one. That's one that I, there is not a guy in the world that I believe is going to beat I
Starting point is 00:15:49 to pour you eight out of ten times. That's just the truth. So, and I'm looking down at my notes here, Islam was doing a Q&A the other day. A fan asked him, could you please come back? and deal with Iliate Tupori and Islam said, as you wish. So it feels to me, especially when hearing what I heard from Islam himself,
Starting point is 00:16:18 my superfight is with Iliate Tuporia and not Hamzaa Tchama. It feels to me like we're closer to that becoming a reality than we might have been before. Before, I don't know that we were going to get Iliate Teporia versus, Islam Akachev. But now it feels like we really are starting to work our way towards those guys getting locked aside in Akhtan. And that can be something as simple as Islam going,
Starting point is 00:16:48 absolutely I'll do it. You're my pleasure. Take care of Ilya. My pleasure. What I would fight with Hamz, I'd be more intriguing. No, I would rather fight to pour you. That's the fight. We'll be fighting for a number of pound-pon spot.
Starting point is 00:17:03 It just seems to me like Islam is more and more open to the idea that he's going to fight Ily Tupori and I know that Ili Tupori wants this. So there's more movement in that regard in terms of these guys finally fighting and coming together. I just don't know how soon it could happen. Dude, Islam's got a big fight with Jack Dela. Even Khabib said, hey, this guy is very good. He's seen everything. He's a very difficult opponent for Islam.
Starting point is 00:17:32 I know what challenges we face. And we know that Ilya Tuporia, it's going to be Patty Pimlet or Armand Sarukyan. And there's no guarantee to get through those. It's a very tough time. But at least they're speaking of each other. Before we had Iliad talking and Islam kind of no selling him and ignoring him now, we have both of them talking.
Starting point is 00:17:55 And when they both start talking, that makes for a dynamic that tells us that those guys are maybe about to fight. or at least they're open to fighting. And that's what we want when you got two the best fighters in the world in the same weight class. Guys, thank you so much for supporting me.
Starting point is 00:18:10 Thank you for supporting everything that I do. I love and appreciate all of you. Until next time. Peace. Hey, guys, it's us. The Jonas Brothers. I'm Joe. I'm Kevin.
