Starting point is 00:00:00 This is an I-Heart podcast. Guaranteed Human. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends. Me and hilarious guests from Bob Odenkirk to David Letterman help make you funnier. This week, my guest, SNL's Mikey Day and head writer, Streeter Seidel, help an a cappella band with their between songs banter.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Where does your group perform? We do some retirement homes. Those people are starving for banter. Listen to humor me with Robert Smigel and friends on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal, but encouraged. It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Others say it's unleashing human potential. Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all, embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year. Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds. I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth. Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A win is a win.
Starting point is 00:01:06 A win is a win. I don't care what I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Clifford Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career in sports media. Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show. This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes,
Starting point is 00:01:24 creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. So let's get to it. Listen to the Clifford show on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok. All right, guys.
Starting point is 00:01:45 So I was in Las Vegas for the Contenders Series. And Dana goes to the Contender Series press conference. Contendantor Series, by the way, is very, very fun. It really is like a sprint. The athletes are fighting like crazy. The show is two hours. It really is one of my favorite things that they've asked me to do. And I did it because Bisbing and Felder are in Paris this week and last week.
Starting point is 00:02:12 They were in Singapore and those guys generally do the contender series. But after the contender series, Dana White was at the press conference and he spoke about Marab de Wallisvili. Marab de Wallisvili is the number one contender in the Bannonweight Division. But he is very, very close to Al Jermaine Sterling. So close to the point that he will not even entertain a fight against Al Jermaine and Sterling. I get that because Kane and I were in the same situation. Ultimately, I ended up going to a different weight class before I ran into that. But I want to talk to you guys a little bit about how it works in those situations.
Starting point is 00:02:49 First of all, let me tell you what Dana White said in regards to Marab Duolishvili. It was transcribed by M.M.A. fighting. Dana said This is not You could be friends with everybody in this business There's a lot of people in this business A lot of good people This is not about friendship
Starting point is 00:03:08 It's about fighting out Who is the best in the world And if you don't want to find out Who the best in the world is Then this is not the place for you You should be somewhere else There are plenty of places to fight Where they don't give a shit what you do
Starting point is 00:03:23 But it doesn't work here I understand this because I was in the same situation with Kane. And I recall being in Dana's office with Lorenzo renegotiated the contract when I was still up at heavyweight and they asked me about it. And I said I was going to go down to 205. It was honestly before I fought Rashad Evans
Starting point is 00:03:47 or was going to fight Rashad Evans. Ultimately it ended up being Patrick Cummins. I was going to 205. And Dana and them did say to me, they said, well, it's good. you're going down because you guys are too good to avoid each other. Ultimately, you guys would have to each other and probably had to fight. So by changing the weight class, it eliminated all those issues with not wanting to fight my friend.
Starting point is 00:04:14 Marab and Aljo find himself in the same situation. With Marab saying, I don't want to be fighting my friend. I will also tell you this. Part of the reason I didn't want to fight King, Alaska. is because I knew what happened in the gym every day. So the question is, how's Marab doing with Aljo? To know he doesn't really want to fight this guy. The friendship is obviously number one.
Starting point is 00:04:41 But also, you know in training with that guy, how tough it would be to get a victory over him, if possible at all. Because generally, the guy that doesn't want to fight is the one that is not the champion. In this case, that's Marab de Wallisvili. But they're too good. It seemed as though they might have had a answer to the problem.
Starting point is 00:05:04 When Aljo was going to defend the belt and go up to 145. While after Sean O'Malley does what he does, Aljo now says he's staying down at Bantamweight. And if you believe what I'm telling you, he should be in line for an immediate rematch. When you've defended the belt as many times as he has, we've seen time and time again guys get rematches, not Al Jermaine Sterling.
Starting point is 00:05:25 They're moving on. There should be no reason why Maraubes should not. want to take the fight with Sean O'Malley unless he just believes that there is no one else that can compete with Aljo to the point that if he becomes the champ, Al Jemaine will be staring right again as the number one contender. But then the shoe flips. Then the shoe flips. It was Marab, the great friend. These guys are great friends. Great friends. But it was Marab, the guy that was beating everyone else, not wanting to fight. How does it work when it's the other way around, which could be possible?
Starting point is 00:06:08 Because Aljo could go on and run again and become a no-oic contender. And when you watch Marab and you look at the styles, it seems as though Maraq could be a difficult challenge for the new champion. Granted, we have seen Maraub get hurt before, and O'Malley seems to know how to finish people when he gets. some hurt, but we've also seen otherworldly toughness from a Rob DeWalishvili, especially in the Marla Marais fight. Where he was dropped, he was hurt, it looked like he was done, and he got up and he got
Starting point is 00:06:47 the job done. And I believe he is a favorite to beat Sean O'Malley if they are matched up right now. I, Brian, look up the odds real quick for me. O'Malley versus the Wallers Vila odds. I believe that they have instilled Marab as a favorite to become the Bannonweight Champion of the world if he is to take that fight. So ultimately, it's about him being healthy enough
Starting point is 00:07:16 in him being willing to fight for the championship. And then you put the shoe on the other foot. Now, Jermaine Sterling is now the person that has to say, well, I'm not going to take the title fight because my boys got it. But I'm telling you, once you've got a piece of that championship life, you don't know what's going to happen when you're in that situation. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged. It's the enhanced games.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Some call it grotesque. Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Starting point is 00:08:08 A win is a win. A win is a win. I don't care which I'm saying. Yep, that's me, Cliver Taylor the 4th. You might have seen the skits, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports media. Well, somewhere along the way,
Starting point is 00:08:22 this platform became bigger than I ever imagined. And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show. This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes, creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated. One week, I'll take you behind the scenes
Starting point is 00:08:39 of the biggest moments in sports and entertainment. And the next, we'll talk about life, mental health, purpose, and even music. The Clifford Show isn't just a podcast. It's a space for honest conversations, stories that don't always get told, and for people who are chasing something bigger. So if you've ever supported me
Starting point is 00:08:55 or you're just chasing down a dream, this is right where you need to be. Listen to The Clifford show on the IHeard radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok Podcast Network on TikTok. Do you remember when Diana Ross double-tap Little Kim's boobs at the VMAs? Or when Kanye said that George Bush didn't like black people.
Starting point is 00:09:17 I know what you're thinking. What the hell does George Bush got to do with Little Kim? Well, you can find out on the Look Back at it podcast. I'm Sam J. And I'm Alex English. Each episode, we pick it here, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it. Including a recent episode with Mark Lamont Hill,
Starting point is 00:09:34 waxing all about crack in the 80s. To be clear, 84's big to me, not just because of crack. I'm down to talk about crack all day, but just so y'all know. I mean, at this point, Mark, this is the second episode where we've discussed crack. So I'm starting to see that there's a through line. We also have AIDS on the table right now. Thank you for finishing that sentence.
Starting point is 00:09:55 I don't think there's a more important year for black people. Really? Yeah. For me, it's one of the most important years for black people in American history. Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Then you figure it out. You figure out whether or not Al Jermaine is willing to fight his friend. And if I had to guess, I would probably say no.
Starting point is 00:10:21 Because these guys are unbelievably close. They're unbelievably close. And they love each other. But when you look at it from a promoter's perspective, it's like how do you deal with two guys lingering around the top of the division, both unbelievably talented, both with potential to hold the championship, not willing to fight each other, not changing weight classes in both being okay with the situation as
Starting point is 00:10:51 it is. Having a new champion really helps Marab Duolishvili. Oh, sorry, no. Marab is an underdog to Sugar Sean O'Malley. Pretty big underdog actually. He's plus 250. But I saw that Sean had somebody they had put him in there with
Starting point is 00:11:07 that they said he would be an underdog. But hell, might have changed. Looks like now the closest eye is Cheeto Vera. So I get Dana's point. But I can also see where Marab is coming from, because I was there, but we need to have some sort of answer to the unwillingness to do it.
Starting point is 00:11:31 We also got to see what those guys do going forward because it seems like Cheeto is in line. Cheeto is the guy that he's supposed to fight next. But Mara would seem to be very close. And honestly, with the way Maraup fought against Peyote d'Oen, he should be the number one contender, if not Al Jermaine Sterling. So this is one of those situations where I can see both sides. I see the UFC side. But I don't think that Marab should look elsewhere to fight
Starting point is 00:11:59 because he is easily one of the best fighters in the world. If he went anywhere else, he would just dominate. His grinding style, his wrestling, his cardio would be far too much for anyone else. He needs to be fighting the best fighters in the world. And those fighters are in the UFC. I also see Marab's point. where you got a guy in Aljo who's pretty much taking him in and does
Starting point is 00:12:24 everything with him. When the Rob, probably didn't have anything. I stayed with Al Jemaine Sterling. They've trained and come up together. So the idea of hurting that person really doesn't sit right with you. I always felt like if I was fighting Kane, and with the potential of one of us
Starting point is 00:12:40 losing, he was going to take money from Marquita and Daniel. And if I won, I would take money from Coral and Little Kane. It did not make sense. And I believe that this is where these guys are. But ultimately, we need some answers. So Marab, what we're going to do, baby?
Starting point is 00:12:59 What are we going to do? The sugar show will fight anybody. It's just about who's going to step up. Who's going to step up? Bannerweight division is fun right now, guys, and I'm loving it. Loving it. Until next time, guys. Like, subscribe.
Starting point is 00:13:18 Tell a friend to tell a friend that DC's got a YouTube channel. And I'm digging deep in the all things. mixed martial arts. Until next time, peace. Another podcast from some SNL late night comedy guy,
