Here's something that should not be as complicated as it is, getting a racist statue removed.
And here's something that should be a whole lot easier than it is, getting a new one put up in its place.
I'm Akela Hughes, and Rebel Spirit Season 2 is about both of those things.
As I was watching these statues come down, I was thinking about what it meant that I grew up in a majority of Black City, in which there were more homages to enslavers than there were to enslave people.

It's 115 in the morning here in Abu Dhabi,
and UFC 321 just wrapped.
This is my post-fight reaction video.
fight reaction video brought to you by Total Wireless. The official wireless provider of UFC,
they are in your corner with unlimited 5G data that will not slow you down. I am so like,
I'm so like messed up right now because of what I just saw happen in a heavyweight title fight.
The fight ended in a no contest between Tom Aspernel and Cyril Gahn due to an accidental
So I poke. This is only the second UFC title fight in the 30-something year history of the company
to end in an ain't no contest. I mean, the arena was on fire. The stage was set for something
magical to happen. You had two guys that were primed and ready to go and fight for the most
prestigious prize in all the fighting as Miles tries to strike back there and breaks stuff down.
Liverpool got beat again today
So it's like becoming the norm
Every quote by reaction
Liverpool's getting beat
But the stage was set
For something amazing to happen
And we got
What was one of the most
Anthroclimactic finishes
I've ever been a part of
But what we got up to that point
Was amazing
What we got to that point
Was very telling
What we got to that point was
We got the opportunity to watch the two best heavy weights in the world fight for the championship in the UFC, right?
John Jones isn't here.
Francis and Gano isn't here.
The guys that we had in there right now are the two best in the world, and they fought like it.
Cyril Gunn fought tonight like we expected him to fight against John Jones.
He defended takedowns.
He was landing in strikes.
And Tom Aspinall got his off too.
Tom Aspinall was landing.
Tom Aspinall actually seemed happy.
smiling to be in there with someone that was extending him and pushing him to a place that he really
hadn't been. Look, man, Cyril Gan was here to fight. From the very start of this fight,
you recognize that Cyril wasn't going to be on his bike like we have seen him in some of his more
recent fights. This looked like the Cyril Gan that went to fight tied to Ivasa, that went forward,
took the center of the oxygen and started using his movement to really give Tom some problems.
I know we didn't get to see the fight long, but in what we saw,
that was going to be the toughest fight of Tom Aspinall's career.
And I can say that very confidently because I saw him with his face, nose all bloody,
from a jab of Cyril Gond, who landed it multiple times over the course of that first round.
I saw Tom Asplona let land some nasty stuff too.
I saw him landing some jabs of his own.
I saw him landing some kicks.
I saw Tom Aspinall throw a high kick.
I've never seen him throw a high kick.
And it's partly because he's never had to throw a high kick.
There are layers to these guys' games that we have to find only when they're fighting someone
that not only deserves to be in there with them, but can extend them to a point where they have to use all of their weapons.
Tonight, Tom was kicking more.
He was trying to wrestle more.
He was doing so many things differently because he had to.
Unfortunately, Cyril Gans seemed prepared for all of that,
and he was fighting better than we have seen him fight in a long time.
A no contest in the heavyweight title fight feels like something was left on the table.
But it does open up opportunities for us to get this on what might even be a bigger stage.
We could reschedule these guys for January.
The first big Paramount cart, if Tom Aspinall was okay,
you put the heavyweight title flight on it.
You want to start a new deal?
That's how you start a new deal.
I was just in the back.
Cyril Gond was very emotional, guys.
He was crying because of a missed opportunity.
I spoke to his coach Fernand Lopez,
which will be at the end of the interview, so stick around.
And he shared his thoughts on what was happening.
And I will speak to Tom's coaches also.
I saw Tom's answer.
Spanol, his right eye is covered in a bandage because he cannot open it still.
We're 20 minutes past the fight ending.
And what's crazy about that is his other eye was the one where his hand went knuckle deep.
The right side was scraped down more.
The left side was the one that went knuckle deep and really would have been hard to deal with
if not for the pain he was seen on the other side.
Time was very upset that people were booing.
And then people saw the replay and were like, wait a minute, maybe we should be booing the other guy.
Then they booed Cyril gone.
But Cyril was emotional.
He wanted this fight.
This fight was everything that these guys had asked for.
Hopefully we can reschedule this and get these dudes locked in the octagon again to determine who's the baddest man on the planet.
They will both be better for it.
I know they didn't spend a lot of time in that octagon, but there were some things that you can take from it, especially if the turnaround is relatively quick.
Man, what an ending.
You could have asked me for 100 endings.
I don't know if I would have ever came to that.
A no contest in the very first round due to eye poaks.
Unreal.
McKenzie Dern became the strawweight champion in the world today,
beat Vina Janjadoba.
3-2-3-2 in terms of rounds, 48, 48, 48, 47, and 49, 46.
Four rounds to one.
Felt different because the other people scored it three.
to 2. McKinsey won the fifth round, but 4946 didn't feel that bad to me.
Janjadoba had her moments, but McKinsey Dern was the aggressor.
While she got taken down, she was the one that was punching off of her back.
She was the one still trying to do damage.
So it felt like the right person won, regardless of what the score said.
McKinsey Dern is not a strongweight champion.
She has had expectation pushed on her from the moment she decided to fight mixed martial arts
which, by the way, didn't happen by her choice.
She was asked by showing Shelby to fight mixed martial arts.
And now she has taken that career and become a world champion in the UFC,
which is amazing.
When you think about all of her accomplishments in Jiu-Jitsu,
it really is amazing what this young lady has accomplished.
And then the moment she got with her daughter, Moa, inside the out, and I was nuts.
She has fought a lot of times in the UFC now.
and she has lost in the UFC
but she has never lost in front of that little girl.
That's her why.
A lot of fighters find their why,
and when they do, it's hard to beat him.
Tonight McKinsey became a champ in front of her daughter.
She can't lose in front of her why.
Let's see how long she can do that
and maintain that championship.
Umar and her Megamattaov got beat by Mario Batista.
And it was a much close to fight than Umar expected.
He even said it.
I underestimated him.
But he got the job done.
He was able to take him down.
he was able to mix it up.
He was able to do what he intended to do and get a dove.
But it was harder than expected.
I said Umar got beat.
No, I didn't.
Well, if I said Umar got beat, sorry, guys.
Umar and the Megamato beat Mario Batista today in a decision.
In a fight that was much harder than he thought it was going to beat.
But ultimately, I thought he looked pretty good, man.
He was able to land takedowns.
He was able to control.
he was able to show that even on the night when things aren't going exactly the way he planned for them to go, he could push through it and make things happen.
I like this post-fight interview when he said, I tried to do what Habib would do.
And I don't understand how we did it.
He goes, after doing this tonight and not being able to control in the way this man did, I felt like an amateur.
Tonight was an eye opening for me.
And I think that that self-reflection, that ability to judge yourself that truthfully,
is going to help Omar and Omega Medov as he goes forward in his career.
He's looking to hopefully get another chance at the champion,
regardless of if it's Peoria Moraubu'lliswili.
I think tonight that win puts him going in that direction.
So hats off to Omar.
I know he was judging himself pretty hard, but I thought he did pretty good.
Great job, kid.
Alexander Volkov beat Jayelton Almeida guys Jayelton Almeida scored takedown after
takedown but he wasn't able to get damage off on Alexander Volkov I said something
about Jayotanelmaida this week when I was speaking to Tom Aspin I I I want to
apologize to Jayalton because I didn't mean that I was talking about how he's not
necessarily fighting he's grappling right it's a fight
fight and when you're in there even though you can secure takedowns you have got to do damage and i felt
horrible about that which i ultimately because he's always been so respectful and so nice to me
and i hope there is there comes a point where i can make that up to him uh and making that
joke almost sometimes you got to be careful with what you say about people especially when you
don't intend to offend him with that being said though i thought he lost that fight
takedowns, but he didn't do much with those takedowns in Volkov was the one that was trying
to do damage. And ultimately that cost him. I think tonight was a big tell in what judges are looking
for today. They are valuing damage over everything regardless if you are on your back. And that is
exactly the way it's supposed to be. Just takedowns will not be enough anymore for these guys.
And that's amazing.
Osamad Mersakhanov knocked out. Alexander Rockich. That was tremendous. Iqamela Scare.
I've got a decision over at Jung Young Park,
answered a lot of questions.
Ludovette Klein and Mattaz Rameski had one of the greatest fights I've ever seen.
Ron Becky is one of the craziest dudes ever.
Take a break, though, man.
Get some rest.
You've taken a lot of damage over the last 13 weeks.
Volta Walker with another heel hook.
That's four in a row.
Guys, Ruthma-Poharis has four heel-hook submissions,
but never four in a row.
Most of the ever got the row was two.
Big Volta just killed that and said he wants to fight.
against Hamdi Abdulwahad, who he said beat up on black pepper pig,
talking about Chris Barnard, which is actually the most ridiculous thing ever.
Great fight by Nathaniel Wood and Jose Miguel Delgado was fun.
Azat Moxum got beat by Mitropozo, first UFC win,
and a decision win for Mizuki.
Guys, now it's time for my total wireless performance of the night.
I skipped over Quill and Sal Kill.
and that was because he is, I mean, my performance of the night,
he knocked out Nasrat Hakkaras, who was on a five-fight windstreet
and one of the nastiest, most violent knockouts I have seen in a really long time.
Head kick puts him out.
Hockbaros is laying on the ground guys for 10 to 12 minutes.
It was one of the scariest knockouts I've seen in a long time.
I pulled Sal killed over to the other side of the Octagon,
so we didn't have to see him laying on the ground.
ground as we're doing an interview. This game is crazy. And when you see things like that,
it reminds you of how dangerous it is. We watch the best fighters in the world every single week.
Tonight we saw a knockout that does not happen often or anything that violent doesn't happen
at often. Unbelievable night from Abu Dhabi. It's always great. And yeah, I'm going to go home now.
Try to get some rest before I jump on this flight, try to get back to California.
