Starting point is 00:03:54 How you feeling, champ? How's everything? Feel good, drinking water, cutting weight. That's it. You smell that biscuit?
Starting point is 00:04:02 You like that? Sunday. I'm waiting. Morning. Okay? Sunday morning. Before you leave, I promise you.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Have to be fresh. Fresh, hot, okay. Warm. You're gonna eat this? Yeah. Okay. Las Vegas for training camp this time. How was that, man?
Starting point is 00:04:18 I mean, I read something the other day. You're talking to Demetri Johnson, you had a baby and then left the next day for training camp? Third one. Third baby. How many you have? Three. Three.
Starting point is 00:04:30 Are you done? No, I want seven. You want seven children? Yeah. Why seven children? Full wrestling team? Seven-week class, Olympics. Some of the Jewish.
Starting point is 00:04:39 the judo, samba, wrestling, maybe someone do MMA. Now I have two boys. Two boys? Nice. Well, I have to be four. Big family is good, man. Yeah. I built new house. You did already? A couple years ago, yeah. It's beautiful? Beautiful. I saw Khabib's house, beautiful house. Is your house like Kavis? House, like residents, you know? It's so big. It's so big. Like yours like this? Mine not so big. I live with my grandmother, my father, mother, but it's big. It's big. but not crazy.
Starting point is 00:05:10 Yeah, I saw your father when you first won the belt. This guy was very happy, huh? Yeah. Very proud of you. This guy is a village guy, you know. He's still doing his farm, green farm here. Just called me today morning, you say, tomato is ready. Tomatoes are ready?
Starting point is 00:05:25 He's excited about tomatoes. You're fighting for the world title this weekend. This is talking about tomatoes. He don't care too much about this all the time. What you mean, man? No, he's not on sports, you know. He's just hard worker all his life. if he work with his hand.
Starting point is 00:05:41 Your whole family, they watch the fights, though. Mom, dad, kids. Mom can't watch? Mom never watch the fight. Why? Never again, like, after, if I win, he never, never, never, even if you win, she doesn't go back and watch it? Never, never.
Starting point is 00:05:55 Why? I don't know, she don't like. So my mom used to go, and the whole time she would kind of like, like this, you know, eyes down, scared. My mama go outside the house, and she walked around the city. garden. Yeah, around where I live. And when I won, somebody like from the other house go like crazy, you know, and she understands. Didn't she understand you? When she go back inside now?
Starting point is 00:06:20 Now she can like sit and be comfortable. She noticed too much. Yeah. So Las Vegas though, training camp. How was that? We spoke at, I think we spoke at the last paper few, you were a little concerned about Habib losing his mind during training camp. Did he lose his mind? And how was the training camp? Why you don't control? Brother, I go, this crazy month. Gymnastics, something. Not even gymnastics, no excuses. It's just like, it's impossible.
Starting point is 00:06:45 You go to Las Vegas. Why, Las Vegas is probably. It's very far. 50 minutes by fly from her house. Yeah. Why are not? Well, if I go to the fly, I never know if maybe they threw me out. No.
Starting point is 00:06:57 They threw him out. This is the craziest situation. In an emergency, you can help people? Bro, why they kick him out like this crazy? Why do you do this to my guy? I don't know. This is this number one bullshit. Disrespect.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Brother, I understand if they kick you out from this emergency. Because you're so big, maybe. Don't do that. Don't be disrespectful. Don't be disrespectful. I can help because you need strength to pull the bar. You're a little bit big now. You cannot move too much.
Starting point is 00:07:32 No, but all you got to do is pull the lever. That's it. But people have to go from this side. Yeah, but once I jump, once I pull, I go. Ah, you go first? I go first. You go first or you go last? I go less.
Starting point is 00:07:44 You win, I help everybody. Yeah. What happened is like these people front of the airline company. disrespectful, they took the worst guy. This guy's the best guy to be in there. CPI, like all therapy, food, everything. It's good, you know, training there. Brand new facilities, recovery, training. Recovery, training.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Like, UFC PI team is so good, you know. Thank you, everyone from your CPI. They help us a lot and we have everything what we need in Las Camp in Vegas. When you weigh your camps, your last couple camps in Dagestan to this one, like is this something you're gonna be doing more going forward coming out to Las Vegas?
Starting point is 00:08:36 to do camps? We're thinking where we can make the camp, you know, and Vegas or San Jose, and because this time three guys... Cold, San Jose, too. It's cold also. Jim is cold sometimes, and because we become like big team, like three guys fighting, that's why we sit with the Habib, with the coach, and we choose the Vegas. Vegas, honestly, one of the... It's a great place for training, especially right now with the PI. It's a great place. Yeah, apics, everything. Islam, you're fighting Armand Syrucayan again the first time, right? Even we did, right? When you came back from fight, we all make fun, like, oh, you lose a round, you do this, just. He said, brother, I went every round. Like, I won three rounds to zero. Yeah. But he fought you on short notice.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Do you anticipate a much different fight this time than he got in the last fight? Man, maybe first time I'm a little bit underestimating because I don't know these guys. I sign him in the UFC, even not in the... He wasn't signed before he fought you. They looking for an opponent for me. That's why he's saying there. Because no one from U.S. or other country want to come to Russia and fight with me. That's why that time we signed him.
Starting point is 00:09:57 And he grew up more experienced now. He's a big guy now. He's big. He's big. Experience and one of the best in our division. In that first fight, it seemed as though he was more willing to wrestle you offensively. Most people shy away from that. They just think defend Islam's takedowns, right?
Starting point is 00:10:25 So then they're kind of on their heels the whole time because they're thinking shot, shot, which ultimately leads to you being better with your hands. Do you anticipate he's going to be trying to wrestle you again in this fight? Because all his fight, he has same style. If you look how many nine, ten, five years. He has always same style with everybody. He goes with the striking a little bit, and when somebody tried to push him, he goes to take it down.
Starting point is 00:10:56 That's why, because why he number one, why I'm the champion? because he have good skills in the wrestling because I have good skills in the wrestling who have good skills in the wrestling they control the division you know it is universally thought you know what that means universe like everybody believe this that this is the toughest fight today for Islam Mahadjah do you agree the first one this one this weekend is the toughest fight that you'll see nobody no you know nobody know some of the fight it's for example when I was fighting with the Tibau, Gleysand Tibau.
Starting point is 00:11:34 In my mind, I prepare myself for the very hard fight, you know. But it was to go easy, you know. I remember that we fought together that night. You knocked them out, yeah? Yeah, straight looking. You get the boldness. You knock him down. You knock him out. Good. You get boldness.
Starting point is 00:11:51 And you, what you did? Submission. Submission. Some ambition. Yeah. Not some ambition. You ground and pound. No submission. This was against Rumble Johnson?
Starting point is 00:11:58 Or Volkin, like, Uzimir. Uzimir. Okay, yeah, ground and palm. Ground and pound. They don't give me a bonus. They give you a bonus. No, I thought you got the bonus. No, that night I don't get the bonus.
Starting point is 00:12:09 I wonder why. Why you get the bonus? I don't know. You're a rich guy. Now, you don't need the bonus now. Now I don't need, but that time I need the bonus, you know. You have to come to my room. I'm not deserve my.
Starting point is 00:12:20 And give you the 50 grand? Yes, brother. So you're telling me right now, if you get a bonus over Umar, right? You'll take the $5. 50 grand and go give it to Umar. Tagir, Tagir. So you would go get Tagir, he would not do that. If Tagir wants some, like, crazy things.
Starting point is 00:12:37 But you didn't do a crazy thing? You hit one punch. One punch, Nike Mount sleep. What you have to do more than this? If maybe you do like spinning back fist twice, like this guy in Abu Dhabi, okay, I give him the money. But if you only do one punch, knockout, and I do the same thing, we do the same thing. What you did?
Starting point is 00:12:55 Punch. Just punch finish. A pound and pound, you know, go easy. What did you, what did I hit him with? My fist. Yes. What did you hit the guy with? Your fist.
Starting point is 00:13:05 My arm. So it's the same thing, right? Like, there's no reason to give you the 50 grand. It's not true, man. You know, you never know what's going to come. The Dustin Corrier fight. A lot of people made it seem like that was a super tough fight. When you go back and watch it, like, what did you make of that fight?
Starting point is 00:13:24 You know, improve a lot from this fight. Like, my striking, become better. because I know I can strike with anyone because Dustin is one of the dangerous guy in our division who have better than him boxing you know I go use him like and I feel comfortable if Habib and our corners don't told me take him down take I can knock him out you know because I landed large you were you are landing really good in the strike he landed also but we have good good fight in the striking but from this fight
Starting point is 00:13:58 I improve a lot, you know. Islam, so I'll tell you this right now. So I keep count. You told me after the first Volkanowski fight, you may be underestimated a little bit, right? Yeah. You're telling me now that from the Armand's Rukhan fight, you possibly underestimate it.
Starting point is 00:14:14 I'm always good in that in my mind, you? No, but did you underestimate Dustin Poyi? No. So now, now that you, how do you not underestimate Arman again? I'm surprised when I fight with Dustin. I'm surprised how he defends my mind. wrestling you know I'm not understanding because this is like how do you make sure you
Starting point is 00:14:32 don't do that again against Armand no no is that from the first fight you gained the respect from the first fight because he said that he doesn't even look at the first fight because he's a different guy he's a number one contender right now it's mean he's a high-level fighter how I can understand me maybe when I fought with Volcanozky I think he's gonna be short small something like that but right now I have a real opponent who have everything, you know, I have to be ready. You know one thing that happens when the guy wins as much as you do. You're like, and I don't know if you even notice or if you pay attention to it, you're like
Starting point is 00:15:11 two fights from breaking Anderson Silva's record for wins in a row in the UFC. You're at 14 straight wins, which is a crazy. How many you have? Dude, stop. God damn, man. I never won 14 fights in the row of the year. I only had like 13 fights in the UFC. You never, you already break my record.
Starting point is 00:15:31 Khabib record, you beat Khabib in terms of his wins in the UFC. Nobody does that. Like it's Anderson, Kamara Usman, and then you. But if you win this weekend, you tie Kamar al-Uzman, you'll be won from Anderson Silk. You've won the championship. You've defended the championship twice. If you win this weekend, you will now have the record for most title fight wins in the UFC. Do you think about that stuff because now you're on the verge of getting spoken about in historical terms.
Starting point is 00:16:04 We always talk about that in the gym, right? Want to be number one pound for pound. We want to be this. We want to be that. You're checking all those boxes now. You ever stop and take Dotaven a little bit and go, man, this is really special? Honestly, man, I never thinking about this. I don't know how many Usman have, how many understands.
Starting point is 00:16:20 But last week, Lara Medea asked me about this, you know. It's good, good for the legacy. and I become close to you guys, Habib, you to become in Hall of Fame. So Islam, that's another thing. So everybody wants to ask me, right, because I know you guys well. How much does Islam have to do to surpass Habib as the greatest lightweight of all times? It's not my goal. It's not some things what I want to do, you know.
Starting point is 00:16:46 Just one thing is what I want to do, honestly, to be champion many, many years. That's it. No record, nothing. Just defend my belt. the champion, you know, when you have belt, it's different. I told him that, I said that that was my answer. The respect he has for that guy and what he's done for his career, you don't want to surpass that.
Starting point is 00:17:06 It's like, I think Habib's the greatest lightweight of all time. I think Habib's the greatest fighter of all time. But I also think that Armand Surukian needs to be somebody or somebody needs to be able to challenge you in a way that can elevate you to that next level of superstar. That's my thought. I don't think it's Armand Sarika is like big name, you know. He's a good fighter.
Starting point is 00:17:30 You need a big name, though. Yeah, maybe some of it. Maybe your comeback. Me? You know that if I came back, I would still beat you as I always beat you. I'm now fat, out of shape, golf guy. Lazy, don't want to cut weight. Me?
Starting point is 00:17:47 I can make 205. I can make 205. You can come back, cut weights, and be in the top. Top 20, everybody would beat me. I don't want to be in the top 20 man. Top five. No. 100%.
Starting point is 00:18:03 No chance, bro. Islam, you are the man, bro. I appreciate you spending time with me. Oh, we're doing one of these? Still strong. I'm very strong. What you did, but? Training a little bit.
Starting point is 00:18:13 Me? Why? Why would you think I train a little bit? You have to. Right now? Wrestling. Only wrestling. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:18:19 When you go to the daughter school, do some gymnastics. It's so hard. Have you ever done gymnastics? No. Your kid, this gymnastics? Not now. It's the devil. You're going to do?
Starting point is 00:18:30 It's like very, very hard gymnastics. Wrestling. I do wrestling. With my kids on my team, if I feel like taking on. How's your team? Good. Very good team. When you send them back?
Starting point is 00:18:42 We go back. We go back as soon as we get a chance. When you invite, I take now all my little kids. And you come with them. I want to. I want that before, you know. Dagestan. But how many years, brother, the last 15 years,
Starting point is 00:18:55 I will come to Dagestan, I will come Dagestan, never. I'm going to Dagestan, guys, I promise it. Islam Mahadchev defends this championship this weekend for the third time. That would be the record for most title fight wins in the UFC at U.S. How many times? Four. Nobody's defending that belt four times. You say four, but show me three.
Starting point is 00:19:17 I did this, dude. You did this, but you said four. I said four. So you won the belt against Charles. You beat. Dustin Porreier. Oh man, did you beat Alexander Volkanowski two-time defense? So it's five?
Starting point is 00:19:33 So it's fine? Yes. Is it five? Wait, stop. So is it five? Six. No way, stop. Wait, so you beat so you beat Volcanowski twice defense? Yes. You beat Charles Olivaire. Yes. I take it that belt. And he won the belt. That was not a chance.
Starting point is 00:19:53 So yeah, five. Four defenses. Five title. Good job, man. Congratulations. I didn't know. How many belt do you have? I broke all your records. No, not yet. What do you have?
Starting point is 00:20:03 Double check. Remember that? Double chap. Guys, Islam defends a belt. UFC 311. Hit that pay-per-view button. It's not like he needs any more money, but he could use it. Follow Islam on everything he does.
