Starting point is 00:03:30 I appreciate your time every time. Hey, so I'm going to go down to the sweet's kitchen. Hour and a half. For your mama food, It's better be good now. If one of the best jerk chicken. If I grow up, I don't have to your mama's restaurant. It better be good.
Starting point is 00:03:43 Bro. You like oxdale? You like jerk chicken? I like jerk chicken. Can I be honest with you? I don't know what an oxtail is. So I struggle with eating at oxtail. I don't know if it's beef.
Starting point is 00:03:54 I like to have something. I like that. I like to know what I'm eating. Because y'all had some stuff earlier. It said pulled pork with barbecue sauce. Yeah. But it wasn't even like pink or red. Ricky Salt is like a red color.
Starting point is 00:04:09 It was white, looked like mayonnaise. How did shit y'all got going on to that, man? I don't eat pork, so. You don't eat pork, huh? Not, I ain't pork. No, I didn't pork. This is like 10 years old. It's good.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Yeah, I heard you. That's good, boy. Everything, though. It's good, but I mean, that's why you look like you look and I look like, I look. Because you eat pork. You don't eat pork, and I do. All right, guys. So I'm here in Manchester for your championship fight.
Starting point is 00:04:33 You and I have spent time together before in the gym. Obviously, we've known each other for a long time. You know what was brought to my attention recently? I never knew this. When you were at with us training, the golden age, we were some hard days back in. Islam said that the first sparring session he had off the plane was you. Do you remember that? No.
Starting point is 00:04:53 He told me that his first sparring session off the plane, when he got to AK his first day, they told me he was going to spar in a cage with a really high-level striker. Yeah, yeah. I can't remember. Is it eight, nine years ago? It was a long time ago. Yeah, exactly. So, I don't, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:05:08 But that's, like, a bit of, like, history, right? Like, that's crazy. Yeah, it's crazy. Because look at you two now both the U.S.C. champion. But I think it's telling to, like, also to the gym as well, aka, at the time, is you. You guys were so young? We were all the guys at the top, right?
Starting point is 00:05:21 You guys are so young, and now, there's a chance. It's mad out of all for 60 is now. Things were. Yeah, he's mad. But, like I said, at the time, it's honored to be around that environment. I mean, all you guys there. And, but far as far as far as far as far as far a few people, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:05:36 I remember the first day I walked. It stayed with him, though. Yeah. So you must have made the impact. Yeah, yeah, play. Malah Muhammad, right? We talked about the elevated incident, but the fight itself,
Starting point is 00:05:48 when you look at the fight, all you really have to go on is the first round. You heard him real bad, right? And you're not a guy that starts really fast. Yeah. What are you expecting this weekend? I'm similar, just carrying out from round one going forward. And I'm obviously for him,
Starting point is 00:06:06 Like what could be his game plan, right? He's not coming out of problem, wrestling more, probably. I feel I'll face better wrestlers than Bilal Mohammed, you know, and I felt his strength in the clinch. I felt his range. Was he strong? Did he feel strong to you? Not really.
Starting point is 00:06:19 Not that I haven't felt before, you know what I mean? So I can't see what it brings to the table different from the first fight. He has improved a little bit, but not. I don't think he's improved enough to win the fight, you know? I asked him the same question. I got to ask you this. Two guys fight. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:36 Right. It's not like you guys fought like Tom and Curtis. Tom and Curtis felt for 15 seconds. Yeah, yeah. You guys fought five minutes and into the second round. But it seems like, and I have to say this, I said to people, I hope Leon doesn't expect the same guy he met before. No. I hope Ballal doesn't expect the same guy because you guys are both so much better than,
Starting point is 00:06:56 but it seems like you have less respect for him today than you did then. Is that because you feel like you've improved more? Yeah. Or you just don't appreciate his skills? because he's much better looking what he did to go Burns. Yeah, but Gilbert Burr was injured in the fight. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:07:10 You're fighting like a half man there. Luke Hey, look at him now in his career, you know what I mean? So he hasn't improved. Like I said, I'm not deluded. You know, I'm taking this fight serious. And I know he has improved, but I don't feel like it's improved enough. You know? I feel like skill for skill, I'm just the bad guy, you know, and that's what's it.
Starting point is 00:07:30 You know, you guys now seem to have bad blood. Where did it come from? Because now it's very like, it seems very like, it seems very like, mm, yeah, I don't know, you have to ask him. For me, it's all like banter and just like whatever, you know what I mean? For him, he's just like, oh, I hate your team, I hate your, hey your brother. Why? He said, that's what he said, your coach was yelling at him in the elevator.
Starting point is 00:07:50 Yeah, I was like, bro, what? All right. I'm gonna tell you, he said you didn't say anything. He said your coach was the one chirping at him. That it was, I was just like, a lot of laughing at the scenario. He was so awkward in the corner. He was like in the corner by himself, like, awkward. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:08:03 So we were sort of bantering him and laughing. He was quite a fucking elevator. As soon as they were open, though, and security was outside, he's like, yeah, you got you're pushing, man. Really? Yeah, yeah. So I was like, you're not that, you know what I mean? So you're like, you're pretending?
Starting point is 00:08:16 Like, I, like, with me alone in elevator. Like, no one can be like, men feel pushing elevator, you know what I mean? But he can feel pushing elevator. That's a difference. You know what I mean? Like, I am that in my heart, you know what I mean? He ain't that. He's a persona with putting on for the media and trying to talk yourself into the fight
Starting point is 00:08:32 and blah, blah, blah. It's going to be easy fight and everything. That's what I was going to ask. Like, you know, do you think he's putting, kind of making himself like, I can do this? Because there's a lot of times, right? Like, the mental, you've got to work yourself mentally to go try to accomplish something truly great. Yeah, 100%.
Starting point is 00:08:50 I feel that's why he's talking. That's what he's there. I mean, it says if it beats me, which he won't. He won't. He's going to be like George St. Pierre. Brovet. His coach came out yesterday. I forgot to ask.
Starting point is 00:09:03 about that, man. I said it's like fucking Canelo unboxing his coach said that. Who? Belal's coach?
Starting point is 00:09:11 You're lying. He came out. He said he's like Marquez and he's like Canelo in boxing now he's training him so good. I was like bro
Starting point is 00:09:20 this is what I'm dealing with. These are people I'm dealing with so like I said there's why if he needs mentally to prepare himself for the battle let him do that but it's funny.
Starting point is 00:09:32 Do you think Because last fight, you had a lot of bad blood, man. It seems like you and Camaro didn't have much. No. But obviously you and Kobe Covington, it was nasty. Yeah. But then in the fight, you can almost see him go within himself like, man, I can't beat this man. Do you think something similar happens on Saturday night?
Starting point is 00:09:48 And was that gratifying to take a Kobe Covington, who had been so boisterous going into the fight and really rendering him pretty helpless because he, I mean, what did he throw, 15 punches in the whole fight? He didn't really do much. Exactly. I feel like Bill out of Prangy a little bit more. I hope, you know, but I don't feel like it'd be enough. I feel like I said, you just watch me and him and just skill for skill and just, he still makes the same mistakes that he made before. Even though he has improved, his patterns are similar, same patterns, do I mean?
Starting point is 00:10:20 I don't feel like he can get in more faster than what he is already. I can't see his feet getting in more quicker than what it is already. It won't get more stronger than what he is already. He's still short. His range is still limited. So I don't know, I don't know, but like I said, Jesse. But did you like that though? Like watching that guy that talks so much?
Starting point is 00:10:39 Yeah. Really kind of like, like he really would not engage with you. Yeah, 100%. I wish she did engage, you know, because I wanted to like really hear him. And because we're like kind of like I said, I kind of shut him down with the range in the distance and couldn't like close the distance enough. But yeah, I wish you did engage a little bit more and forget to hear him a more. You know, I once asked Justin Gage to this question.
Starting point is 00:10:58 And it was the, it was the craziest answer. ever gave me. I said, what do you feel when you're walking out there? That's what I asked Gachi. And then I watch you walk out, right? And John always talks about your song and like, and I watch and I was like, I'm noticing that when he hits the curtain, you start to
Starting point is 00:11:15 smile. So I went back and watched like a few more walk-ups. I'm like, is this guy like getting, when he gets close, like you get excited? What are you feeling? Because, dude, the moment you come out of the tunnel, the biggest smile goes on your face, like, you're happy. Yeah, it's like, free. That's how I feel. I feel like,
Starting point is 00:11:30 the way it's like let's let's let's go and perform now behind the curves I'm like okay talking myself in I was in popping myself up but as soon as it opens you smile yeah because it feels it feels like let's let's go and um that's a feeling I have you know and
Starting point is 00:11:46 as you can see that's off I was like this dude's crazy fuck I was watching yo I was watching I was like this crazy because I don't think I ever see anybody else nobody else does that like when they when the crowd hits them it's almost like you're like,
Starting point is 00:12:01 yes, I finally get to go fight. Like, I'm a guy to get to beat somebody's ass. Yeah, that's all I feel. That's what I feel. That's what I feel.
Starting point is 00:12:05 It feels like, finally it's time to put hands on somebody, you know, and that's what makes me happy and that's what I get my injury from. I mean, you're close to home,
Starting point is 00:12:13 Birmingham, yeah, Manchester, big crowd, a lot of people. You're a crowd, though, right?
Starting point is 00:12:20 You're a star. I remember, dude, like, after the fight in London, they almost made another pay-p-review because they wanted you to headline that
Starting point is 00:12:29 pay-review Yeah. Right. Like that has to feel good because before that wasn't like that for Leon Edwards. Yeah, 100% it feels it feels great. Like I said, to have the whole country back in me and just seeing how great I am. And even for me, just I was believing in myself going through all that opposite now in my career. And now to find out everyone getting the same belief I believe back in the day. You just now feel free. And now this is the reason why I feel like I'm so happy. I didn't have to like change myself. I didn't have to like start dying my hair blonde and be. Yeah, do it. Because be me. Yeah. And now everyone's on the boat, you know, so, so good. I'm a European soccer fan. Yeah. So I went to Manchester City today. My favorite team. Yeah, I loved them forever. Two years. They want a couple titles in that time, you know? But I'm getting to go around, man. You follow the sport at all, no? A little bit, a little bit. My team is Austin Villa.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Also, I'm from a little bit. A little bit. Yeah. Good. Well, Champ, thanks again for checking it with me.
