Starting point is 00:04:00 We love you guys. We've missed you. Nice to see you, my brother. Thanks for checking in with me again, man. As always, guys, I'm in with Ty 2, Vasta. This weekend, he takes on Jarzino Rosen Strike. What's up, my guy? Look, I'm in Australia.
Starting point is 00:04:19 Didn't I tell you Australia loves me? Bro, they love me out here. The moment they walk, they walk around, D.C. Picture here. They love the boy out here. They was like, yo, we'd love to see you play rugby. You'd be like the star of our team. You're like to be good?
Starting point is 00:04:33 Man, I'd be so good in rugby. You are a good tackle. Tackle. I put you on my, they said, what fighters would make good rugby players? I put you on my team. I hope so. Because you're big and you can move fast.
Starting point is 00:04:46 I can't move fast. So you're taking on Garsigno Roses Strike this weekend. My brother, it has not been good lately. Like, it hasn't been great. So what do you make of the state of everything right now, right? You went on that hot run. You won five in a row, and it's turned on us.
Starting point is 00:05:02 Like, so what are you? What do you make of the state of the career where we are right now? It's a comeback now. Yeah. I feel like I've just been dealing with some shit outside of the cage, you know. So it's kind of been taking over the focus of fighting, but I'm back. Yeah. I've been back in Dubai, training hard.
Starting point is 00:05:20 I've been with Gokasaki, working on a little kickboxing. Yeah. Do a bit of ground here, yeah. You told me back in the day, you said, I'm learning this shit on the job. Like, I'm just, I'm learning. I remember we were in California. And he said, I'm just kind of learning this. You said, and this was before you went on that
Starting point is 00:05:37 five-fight win streak, right? You had lost three, I think. And you had one three. So we were right even, you're like, I got to learn how to do this. Where do you think you are in that journey of learning to be a complete mixed martial artist? See, I feel like I'm still learning
Starting point is 00:05:53 every day. Like, this is such a crazy sport. Fighting I'm good at. Yeah. But the martial arts side of it, you know, there's still a lot to learn and I'm still getting better. So when you say, like, and I don't want to get into your personal stuff outside of the cage, but when it's, when you're having, when you're dealing with those types of things outside of the octagon, it's hard to stay locked in to what's important right now.
Starting point is 00:06:16 But ultimately when the success isn't matching the effort, then it, it's twofold. Have you done anything like mentally to try to get out of that? Because as men, we don't like to ask for help for stuff, especially when shit starts to flip up on us. What have you done to try to separate professional and personal? I think just moving back here, moving away, when I'm away from my friends and family, I kind of switch on more, you know, and I've been off the drink. I've been off just training. So I've just been focused in, you know.
Starting point is 00:06:51 And I think it's my time now. This is the best I felt for a couple of years. You know, when you're winning all those fights and you're knocking people out the way you're doing and all the spotlight is on you because the fights are so fun and they're so great and then when it goes the other way the light kind of dims
Starting point is 00:07:10 have you been able to take note of who really is there for Taiy Tuvasa in those moments like or has it not changed at all for you because you'd be a very rare case that when it starts to go the other way people don't kind of jump off the ship no my people I'm from the dim lights yeah I'm from uh
Starting point is 00:07:29 But it's not just that. I think it's more personally. When, you know, when shit's going good, it's always good. It's good. When it's not, it's up to you, you know. And I think that was a big thing for me, just to go away, get locked in with myself, and I'm ready to roll now.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Yeah. Jarzino rose and strike. That would seem to be the type of matchup that you would really love because he's not going to be trying to wrestle you. They don't present that threat, right? because when you're a striker like you are, the guys that are hard are ones that,
Starting point is 00:08:02 while they may not be taking you down, they do have that ability. So you can't truly stand on what you want to do inside the Akkan. D'Arzino doesn't present that. When you got him as an opponent, what were you thinking? Well, it's a great matchup.
Starting point is 00:08:16 I've watched him for a few years now, and I thought, yeah, it's a great matchup for me and definitely won to get back in the winning call him. Yeah. But it's going to be hard. You know, he's been around for a long time. We're heavyweights. But I feel like I'm faster.
Starting point is 00:08:34 I'm more aggressive and we'll see. How close are you from this area, Perth? Oh, I'm western Sydney. I'm on the other side, Sydney. So you're on Sydney. So you're far away. Not too much family? Going to be here?
Starting point is 00:08:50 No, everyone's going to fly over. It's so far. So far. Bro, I flew. I traveled 22 hours to get here. West and Australia is like another country. I tried, you know, most times I get off of this card. Most I'm like, yo, I got, bro, it's too far.
Starting point is 00:09:06 It's 22 hours. You ain't got shit to do. Bro, football, my son's football. Hey, did you, did Australia? How'd Australia you do in the Olympics in rugby? Dude, I saw the girls. Oh my God, did you see that? Break dancing is an Olympic sport, dude.
Starting point is 00:09:25 I could be an Olympian No that's bullshit Ty I could You think you can dance I can dance I can out dance you I can out dance you I've been in a club with you and I've out danced you
Starting point is 00:09:37 When You remember that time we were out in that club And little John was performing And I started dancing So I started dancing And the entire club was going Go D.C., go D.C. And I was just fucking
Starting point is 00:09:49 You rattled to the guy in the boot chair No I didn't No I did not battle You lost to him I took his shoe up. He had to clean his shoes in the car. That was crazy, bro. You're doing shoeies in there.
Starting point is 00:10:01 You're doing... Cleaner shoes in the car. Oh, my God. That was the crazy shit ever, bro. They didn't touch the floor. They didn't. That's one thing, right? That's one thing about shoeys.
Starting point is 00:10:14 If you're going to do it, you can't have somebody with a dirty shoe. They were on him. He was wearing him. Yeah, he was wearing him. He was cool dude, too, though. He died. I took the shoe off him
Starting point is 00:10:26 That was bad Well you took the shoe off the dude And I was like Ty stop You remember what you told him He wanted me too He wanted you to take it And he was having the best time of his life And you said to him
Starting point is 00:10:37 This is the craziest thing I've ever heard my life He said I'm gonna get you so messed up You're gonna walk out of here tonight That shit was fucked up guy That was crazy You had to have been drunk bro He loved it though
Starting point is 00:10:48 The guy loved it He was pretty fucked up He absolutely loved it. And that's why I do, I'll never forget it for the rest of my life. Because it was a little bit uncomfortable. But his the kid, the guy's reaction was like
Starting point is 00:11:04 he lit up like I've never seen anything like. He gotta be like it's, they're not gonna walk again. You gotta be sweet. Be sweet about it and fun to him. For sure. But like I just remember like all the time that we spent when we spent time together. You did bring
Starting point is 00:11:19 that joy to people. Like you you like doing that? I love it. Yeah, you made that kid smile. And a lot of people. Kyle Kutchmer, our guys, and you always had everybody smiling. Yeah, that's hard. And you're fun.
Starting point is 00:11:34 And people love you. But you got to get it going back in the right direction. And you sound like you're doing all the things necessary to do that. So when you're locked back in those moments, when you're in those dark places, how easy is it for you, Tide to say, I know that while I don't love this, right? Because none of us do.
Starting point is 00:11:55 We love to train. It's always fun. You work hard. But nobody loves being away from their family. Nobody loves being locked away in the gym for hours and hours a day. But then when you look on the flip side, right, when I go back to, I want to be the man again. John Jones just knocked me out. I don't want to go to practice today.
Starting point is 00:12:09 How easy is it for you to motivate something to go, I got to get there. Because I know what's at stake. Because if this doesn't work out, what is there for Tai Tithu of Vasa? I got a few businesses. What are your businesses? I've got a media company. Oh, yeah, you do. I know that.
Starting point is 00:12:26 Be a company. Beer company. Oh, that makes sense. What do you? Beer company. Because for me, it was like I felt like I had to make it work. No, see, I think like you said, though, it's like you get to a point with yourself. Like, I need to do it.
Starting point is 00:12:40 I want to do it. And no one's going to change nothing unless I do. And that's how my life's always been. So. Better on yourself. I got to that point again. And I was like, this is it. I got to that.
Starting point is 00:12:49 I gotta go do what I'm gonna do And like I said This is the best I felt for a couple years You got a beer company So here's the thing like So Dustin Portier brings hot sauce Everybody else brings that liquor Because everybody's got a liquor
Starting point is 00:13:03 Why don't you ever bring your beer to me But you can't drink with me No I can't But you can at least give me one You're not drinking right now I might be able to out I actually might be able to outdrink you now Since you have a drink for nine weeks
Starting point is 00:13:17 Nah I'll still be good I just like just could have wound back up and then it's game time it's so funny man but you're a great guy dude and
Starting point is 00:13:29 I wish you all the best this weekend it's going to be fun watching you and Jarzino fight guys tie two Vasa fight this weekend at UFC 305 against Jarzino rolls a strike
Starting point is 00:13:38 he's looking to get everything going back in the right direction you know when you watch this man fight it's always fun he always lets it all hang out and he's to do that again this weekend
Starting point is 00:13:47 until next time guys like subscribe and tell you friends that I'm checking in with dudes like Ty to Avasa time and time again. Ty. Thank you again, my brother. I can't wait to call the fight. Until next time, guys. Peace. Another podcast from some SNL, late-night comedy guy, not quite. Unhumor me with Robert Smygel and friends.
