A win is a win.
A win is a win.
I don't care what I'm saying.
Yep, that's me, Clivert Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skits, my basketball and college football journey, or my career
in sports media.
Well, now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifers Show.
This is a place for raw, unfilled conversations with athletes, creators, and voices that not
only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.
So let's get to it.
Listen to The Clifford show on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
And for more behind the scenes, follow at Clifford and at TikTok's podcast network on TikTok.
On the Look Back at it podcast.
From 1979, that was a big moment for me.
84 is big to me.
I'm Sam J.
And I'm Alex English.
Each episode, we pick a year, unpack what went down, and try to make sense of how we survived it.
With our friends, fellow comedians, and favorite authors.
Like Mark Lamont Hill on the 80s.
84 was a wild.
I mean, it was a wild year.
I don't think there's a more important year for black people.
Listen to look back at it on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
All right, guys.
So I'm here with the greatest female fight of all time.
Amanda Nunes.
Amanda, once again, thanks for checking in with your boy.
How you doing, Champ?
Good.
Good, good.
Ready to go.
Excited?
Exciting.
You know, Compi is just amazing.
I cannot see myself go away for that.
You know, I was just looking at you and you said,
you thought about retiring after he lost the belt,
but you couldn't imagine leaving it to Juliana.
Why?
She's so bad that never would leave my belt with her at all.
No way.
So, like, when I arrive at home,
I cannot leave my belt.
Lose it like that for Juliana?
Come on, see this?
Let's go do this again.
Let's get this belt and they move on.
So Juliana, no.
Did it feel good to, like, exact that revenge and fight in the way that you did?
Because you felt beautifully.
You heard her so many times.
Literally, that simple switch in the stance seemed to cause so many issues for her.
Did you expect that to be that big of a difference?
Because every time you hit her, you would seem to hurt her so bad.
Yeah, I know that's what she would be a problem for her, you know, because she's so, like, crazy one thing, like, driving forward and then, like, forget about everything.
I knew if I caught the angles like switch,
I know she had a lot of trouble with that.
And I know when I switch, come back, my power is even more.
Yeah.
Because I step back with my strong leg.
Yeah.
Strong leg.
So to come back with her come forward, imagine my power with her,
her power comes together.
It's like.
Look on Instagram.
There's a video of her chasing you on the UFC post of the day.
She's literally chasing you.
She threw like 20 punches.
and you're like circling, circle, circle, and you just go, bang,
and you knocked it down again.
You should watch it.
It's very good.
But then she got a title fight.
I didn't expect her to get a title fight again.
Did you expect that it would be her a third time?
No, actually, I was training for Aldana already.
Really?
Yeah, I was trained.
I have all my camp set up for her, and I have all my training partner set up.
And for Aldana, I was training already without having the call from UFC, you know.
And when they call me and talk about Juliana, I say like, what the hell?
Like, I don't expect that.
Yeah.
But, like, if I have to, I'm going to.
But, like, I really, like, want to fight somebody else different, you know?
What's a tougher fight?
The Juliana fight or the Aldana fight?
What do you anticipate being the tougher fight?
I think Aldana, definitely, because she's more technical, you know, she more precise.
She knows what she do with her strike.
It's not crazy coming forward.
Yeah.
And now she knows, she's like, to knock me out, she knows she has to really connect in the right spot.
Yeah.
Because power, she's not heavy.
Yeah.
But like with her box, she knows how to connect in the right spot.
Yeah.
So if I connect to Frosty, I can knock her out anywhere I want because my power.
Yeah.
So that makes her, her danes, she moved a lot.
She knows how to use her reach.
She's big.
She's big.
Know how to use that reach.
She can kick.
So she has a lot.
She can mix it up, you know.
So it makes her very dangerous.
And also, she had a good transition to in wrestling.
So if I go for the double leg, I cannot go with my elbow like that.
I really got to close it.
You got to close the elbows, get everything tight.
Because she has a good transition with her hips going to the floor and then she mount.
So.
Yeah.
Causes scramble.
Exactly.
And in the floor, too, she has a good jiu-jitsu.
Actually, she has a good jiu-jitsu coach.
And I know she's, like, ready for those transitions.
So it's a completely different opponent.
Very dangerous.
just how I bring it the best of me.
Do you like this better without like that emotional?
Because I remember before the Juliana fight,
we were talking, we sat down and we talked,
and she just kind of annoyed you.
It is what it is, right?
I know she annoyed you initially,
but then she annoyed you even worse
because she won the first fight.
Is it easier for you going into a fight
where you don't have those bad vibes towards your opponent?
Yeah, it's better, you know,
like it's easy for everybody involved in this,
you know what I mean?
And just to have like a refresh
of if look at somebody else's face, it's like better because I don't want to look
in Juliana's face again.
So that was good.
I can look at her face later on, but like this time it was pretty good, this switch.
You know, you said she's bigger, right?
She hasn't fought an abandon weight for a while, right?
Last time she made the actual weight was in 2020, right?
She missed weight, and then she fought that catch weight against Macy Chasson.
Are you worried about that?
Yeah, no, actually.
a huge opportunity like that, you see?
Yeah.
She's going to make it this way, you know?
Yeah.
I feel like if I was her and her coach, everybody, I would be like, you know what I mean?
Let's do it.
Let's make it.
So I think she's going to make it.
I know what I know that.
There's one thing that when I look at this matchup, I think about Jermaine Durandini, right?
That's the last time I felt like you fought a long striker.
Dangerous.
That dangerous had those types of abilities.
You really did rely on the wrestling in that.
Can I just kind of guess that that would kind of be your purpose to kind of mix more wrestling
into the fight this weekend because of it would seem like that that would be where she would
be lacking because she's a very good boxer.
Like you said, very good with her range.
She doesn't have one punch power, but she does know where to find her shot.
Are you going to use more wrestling this weekend?
Yes.
And if so, who have you trained with?
Definitely.
Actually, like, I'm looking for that for my next couple of fights.
that I have it and I want to like mix my wrestling I want to mix everything that I that
have just to grow as a fighter yeah you never know what you're capable until you put
out there you know let it go let's see what is gonna is gonna happen so but I also
we're gonna you know switch a lot with my my my my my standing you know I'm gonna
like put it like a couple uh um tains for chicken gas and I'm gonna keep too so it's gonna be
fun you see I'm so excited like
as much I want to like tell you so many things about this matchup, like I got to stand in front
for her to really feel what is going to happen, you know?
Yeah.
She might like, you know, she might show something else that she didn't even expect, you know,
or like, it's going to be crazy.
They're riding the wave of that momentum, right?
Yeah.
Watching her teammate win over Valentina, right, a long-rated champion, it can almost make you feel
like anything it's possible.
You can do anything, right?
So do you anticipate that she's going to see?
start fast because that's one thing that Alexa Grasso did against Valentina. She was able to really
control the striking early and then Valentina started to make mistakes. Like do you expect,
do you expect Arina to start early to try to really impose herself on you to kind of show,
hey, I'm not here. Ryan Clark always says this. He goes, this guy's like got the biggest crush
on. He loves you. It's crazy because even makes me feel like I'm hating on you. He's like so
one-sided that it feels like I'm hating on you. But he always says it always feels like a foregone
conclusion when you fight.
Because he feels like these women are beat before you guys step into the octagon.
Do you think that she comes out fast to just show, hey, I'm here.
I'm not afraid because I think that does matter when you fight someone that's as dominant
as you've been.
You know, imagine he got hit with his hand and fresh.
No, I know.
If she run out to me, if I land, my fresh punch is going to be like at the end.
I don't think she's going to really fresh run and then try to.
like push the pace it in the beginning
because I'm even powerful
when I'm fresh. So if
she do that, it's going to be awesome because
I'm going to be ready to crack her
out and
go away with my belts. But I don't see
that happen, but if I'm
ready for, she's a technical
you know, she's going to move, she's going to find her way.
She's going to switch couple kicks
here and that. But
you know, I even
like expect she might use the cage,
clinch a little bit, try to like drain
me a little bit, you know, so.
But you've shown that that's a myth, right?
Amanda Nunez getting tired.
Is that not a myth?
Like you've shown that you can fight 25 minutes.
Yeah, many times, a lot.
Many times.
Many times.
So I know at this point, I know how to manage my guys tank and moving forward in the round.
So I feel like it's going to be a puzzle, you know, this fight.
It's going to be good.
I can't wait for that.
This water comes off the best of me when I fight somebody that's, you know.
dangerous, you know? Yeah. This is where I shine in those moments when I feel trapped. I
don't like to walk in that cage and then like, okay, it's going to be okay for me. So I do like
to feel what I feel right now, you know, be trapped, you know. I need to go through the jungle
so I know I have a lot of dangerous place out there. So I'm a lion, as you see. Yeah, you are.
So I'm ready to hunt, you know. Imagine an Olympics where doping is not only legal but encouraged.
It's the enhanced games. Some call it grotesque.
Others say it's unleashing human potential.
Either way, the podcast's Superhuman documented it all,
embedded in the games and with the athletes for a full year.
Within probably 10 days, I'd put on 10 pounds.
I was having trouble stopping the muscle growth.
Listen to Superhuman on the IHard Radio app, Apple Podcasts,

A win is a win.
A win is a win.
Yep, that's me.
Clipper Taylor the 4th.
You might have seen the skis.
kids, the reactions, my journey from basketball to college football, or my career in sports
media. Well, somewhere along the way, this platform became bigger than I ever imagined.
And now I'm bringing all of that excitement to my brand new podcast, The Clifford Show.
This is a place for raw, unfiltered conversations with some of your favorite athletes,
creators, and voices that not only deserve to be heard, but celebrated.

Welcome to my new podcast,
Learn the Hardway with me, your host, and your favorite therapist,
therapist, care games.
And in recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month,
I'm bringing over a decade of my own experience
in the mental health field and conversations
with so many incredible guests.
I'm talking, Tripp Fontaine, Ryan Clark.
Sometimes when we're in the pursuit of the thing,
we get so wrapped up in the chase
that we don't realize that we are in possession of the thing.
And we're still chasing it,
and we don't know when we've done enough.
Because people scoreboard watch.
Life becomes about wins and losses.
Steve Burns,
Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on earth,
or are you a good person because you're afraid?
Because that's two different intentions, bro.
Absolutely.
And that's two different levels of trust.
I want you to just really be a good person.
Join me, Kear Gaines, is we have real conversations about healing, growth, fatherhood, pressure, and purpose on my new podcast, learn the hard way.
Open your free iHeartRadio app.
Search Learn the hard way and listen now.
You know what I love about the big fights that I start to have these.
these great conversations outside of the sport.
It's not just with the people that I work with.
It's with my friends.
And we start to talk about Amanda Nunes.
And these guys are so, Amanda Nunes has that camp
where she's only by herself now.
I asked this question, this is one of the things.
Who's the person in your camp that can tell you,
you write all the checks, Amanda?
You are the champion.
Who's that person that tells you when you're tired in round five,
we gotta do more?
Who's that person that can tell you that?
Because we need that, especially when you become the best.
right everybody is a yes man yeah who's that person in your camp that goes to
man Nunez and goes that ain't enough that ain't gonna get it done we gotta do more
and you respect them enough to do that Nina Nina is the one so she's the coach
now she's the coach now she's not even just she's not just your wife
she's the coach now yeah she's like really really be able to to tell me what
is supposed to adjust and it still even if I'm tired she tell me things that I can do
like to really save it like couple moments and then
and then get it like refresh to start over.
So, and I have like a couple moments in my fight against Juliana,
I think one that I remember the most, like, she looked at me like,
two more you're going to go home with your belt.
Yeah, you're going to win.
And then I was like, yeah, I'm good.
I'm good.
If I were starting in a moment, just the little thing that you know that would make me feel good,
you even need to tell me like, you've got to punch here,
and just like delivery the right war in the right moment.
In that moment.
In that moment, it's like two more rounds,
you're going to bring your belt home again.
And that comes from that long relationship from in the gym.
Obviously, you guys at home.
But there is that I was kind of wondering that, right?
We had this big round table where I was like, who is that?
Like, who's that person that can go to Amanda?
The person that's going to ultimately write their checks and tell her,
today's training was shit.
That ain't going to get it done.
Yeah.
It's good to know that you have somebody like that.
Yeah, and she's about honest with me.
We're always honest with each other because I feel like if you don't do it,
that you know evolve as a fighter you know if I don't have a good a good spahe
she tell me like today I don't know what it was but like you look at the tired you
you did a lot of mistakes like see what what it is and we see it down and then we
plan the next day and and to see what a voice make me exhausted for that
sparrhy so in there if you was the condition so like scored the condition today to
see how you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna train better train it better
So we always look at those things because it's not be consistent every thing in once.
You got to see like, okay, today you always tired.
But like obviously your body is not a machine.
You got to rest too.
Yeah, you're not going to be maybe we need a little rest.
You train in the morning, rest for the rest of the day.
And let's play like that I see how you fit better to move on.
And plus the little injuries that we get here and that.
And then we have to work around with those too.
And Nina is the one that to be able to really see.
She knows when the moments that I really did so much that I needed like something.
Pull back.
Pull back.
And she told me what to do.
And also we have Roger.
You know, we have like a crew that's really like being this business for so long.
Roger is like, I work with Roger back in America top team.
So we are in a good place.
page everybody together.
So we evolve in this, you see.
Because if we get stuck, you know,
this young fighter, these girls always gonna run.
If you stay like this, everybody's doing this.
Exactly.
They're always on the end claim.
Exactly.
So this is what I don't want to do,
because I know I can be created.
I know I can be better.
You know, I know it can be powerful.
So I just need, like, believe it and do the right thing.
Because a couple years ago,
MMA was one thing.
Yeah, it changes so fast.
Change so fast, it's the same.
So you cannot keep the same schedule that you have when you start now.
Yeah, for sure.
You got to play with your schedule.
You got to change it up a little bit.
If you sparring, since you started like Tuesday and Wednesday, you got to change a little bit.
Why have to be forever like that?
Yeah.
You got to do Monday when you fresh like I do.
Yeah.
I enjoy my weekend and I spying the Monday.
So, and then I started, okay, I'm going to spy now Friday.
So I play with my training like that because I enjoy it to do this too.
It's not only like focusing like, oh my God, have to train it hard and like do this, have to be like that.
No, I mix it up, you know, I make my adjustment.
Make you still enjoy it.
Make it still enjoy it because you know how hard it is.
For so long, almost seven years holding my belt.
That's crazy.
Almost seven years.
It's not crazy.
Seven years holding the belt is crazy.
And for get me like even excited.
do something else.
You know, that's why I make some, some...
Change.
I adjust to me, some changes, you know.
Now that it's America top team, you know,
was a great gym for me.
Definitely was.
I make a lot of history there.
But at one point in my life,
I needed to go, you know,
I needed to go in my own to see
what I'm capable of in my own.
Yeah.
Amanda, you and I were just kind of talking off there.
Everybody talks about retirement.
You got a new baby coming.
Congratulations, Champ.
That's good.
I like, follow you.
Yeah, oh, I got three.
You still got some work to do, but keep going, champ.
Like, new baby, champion for seven years.
Don't leave, champ.
Don't let these people keep asking you about retirement
and make it feel like you got to walk out the door.
I hate that.
Everybody's like, well, how long?
Like, why can't we just enjoy?
Enjoy the moment.
Right?
Because when you're gone, then people, like, give me one more.
And when you come back, I say, like, now you guys want to come back, I don't understand.
That's what I'm saying, man.
I'm confusing.
You're not on the way out.
Nah, that's all I need to hear.
Nah.
That's all I need to hear.
You know, I let that open, you know, I got a feel the moment.
You know, I have a new baby coming.
So I'm so excited for that.
And I'm just having so much fun, you know.
And I can have my family around.
I can play.
My gym, I make like a space upstairs.
That's like a playground for Reagan.
Yeah.
So when I finish my training, I go upstairs, I can rest, I can eat there,
have like all set up to, it's a full house upstairs.
Yeah, that's good.
I training, play with her, drop her off in school, go back, training, rest.
And my life is all set up like, I'm enjoying, you know?
You're making too much money.
Amanda's making too much money.
So I won't always for this.
She got her house in Florida.
She got a house in her gym.
She got her gym.
Amanda Nunes is making way too much money.
Guys, this weekend, the greatest female fighter of all time, once again, puts her championship
on the line from Vancouver, Canada, UFC 289.
Make sure you check out the champ Amanda Nunes.
that she takes on Irene Aldana,
trying to defend her championship again.
Champ, thanks for checking in with me.
I appreciate it as always.
Guys, until next time, peace.
