A Mormon polygamist and an Armenian businessman. Multi-million dollar house, Ferraris and Lamborghinis, private jets, a billion dollar fraud. But how long can this be a million dollar fraud? But how long can this alliance last? Tell me what you know. Is somebody coming after me?

Loaded today on a Wednesday, live in Los Angeles. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Starting point is 00:02:40 IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. Joy Taylor is joining me on a Wednesday. We are packed today. Brian Coxstocks by Rob Parker on the show, Nick Wright, Joel Clatt. Huge, huge weekend of NFL football. Eagles Giants is tomorrow on Thursday night. Joy, how are you? Good morning.
Starting point is 00:02:55 Good morning. You know, in this business we have. called the herd, the greater the player, LeBron James, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, the greater the coverage. We talk about you more. If you're not a great player, we tend not to talk about you unless you get into a controversial situation. But a guy that we talk about, and I'm putting my foot down, this is the last day I'm ever going to talk about him, I think, is Des Bryant.
Starting point is 00:03:24 So Jerry... I think. I think. Something blows up. or he ends up on the Patriots. Okay, so Des Bryant gets talked about a lot. Like a lot. By me, by Skip, by Shannon, by shows after us, last five years.
Starting point is 00:03:36 A lot of talk. So Jerry Jones came out this week, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, biggest brand in the NFL, biggest brand in the world in professional football. And he said, you know, the thing in Dallas is, we haven't had a true number one receiver for years. My definition, you know, like Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, and not a lot of guys around the NFL. We haven't had a guy like that for several years.
Starting point is 00:03:57 Well, of course, Des Bryant, who has no life and sits on Twitter all night, fired back several times. At first, he showed a little class. And then he, you know, he did what Des does. He freaks out. He gets emotional. And he goes on Twitter and says things that, you know, I'm the man. Pay homage to the man. Here's the interesting thing about Des Bryant.
Starting point is 00:04:16 Does Des Bryant realize if he was on like 30 other NFL teams, he'd be completely irrelevant? He would be. He would be completely irrelevant. The Dallas Cowboys made Des Bryant. You put him on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who cares? We never talk about Mike Evans. Mike Evans today is better than Des Bryant was at his peak.
Starting point is 00:04:40 We never talk about Mike Evans. Only people talk about Mike Evans are fantasy football fans. I mean, here's what's to me. So I thought to myself this morning. Let's take Des' best years. He had three years where he was a legitimate number one playmaker. Three years, 2012, 2013, 2004. So that was at his best.
Starting point is 00:05:00 So if you take the greatest seven or eight wide receivers I've ever seen play, Jerry Rice, T.O. Randy Moss, Chris Carter, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison. I went and looked at all of them. On average, Jerry Rice, 12 great years. Maybe not his rookie year. Maybe not his last year. Twelve great years. Chris Carter, Randy Moss, closer to eight, Marvin Harrison closer to eight, Calvin Johnson, closer to nine, Calvin could have played three more years. The average for great, for great receivers, was nine years. Des Bryant was great for three.
Starting point is 00:05:39 If Des Bryant was never a Dallas cowboy, he'd be Mike Evans. And Mike Evans already has a better career and appears to have another four or five years of Pro Bowl level play. In fact, let me play a blind, we do blind resume once in a while. for our radio audience, I'll put Des Bryant, player one, player two. These are the blind comparable stats. And it looks like pretty much the same guy. 530 catches, 7, 8,000 yards, 3,000 yards seasons.
Starting point is 00:06:09 And do you know who the players are? Des Bryant is one of the players. Okay, he's one of the players. The other player is Mike Wallace. Did you even know he was on the Eagles? It's his fifth team. He's hurt again. on the Eagles, he's had three targets and officially no catches.
Starting point is 00:06:30 If you look at Des Bryant and Mike Wallace, Mike Wallace has had the better career. I don't remember ever talking about Mike Wallace on a radio or TV show. Mike Wallace, I think 60 Minutes. I don't even think football player. I think the old guy on 60 Minutes, who passed away several years ago. Des Bryant should count his lucky stars. He is the most over-discussed, over-hyped, over-tweeted,
Starting point is 00:06:54 self-deluded player in the NFL over the last decade. For three years, he was pretty good. Mike Wallace was better. Mike Evans is better. We never bring them up. I don't know if he got a shoe deal. I don't know if he got endorsements. I don't know that much about Des Bryant.
Starting point is 00:07:16 But he should think Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys every day that he's on shows like this. He's discussed on shows like this. I turn on the radio all the time and listen to Sports Radio guys. Des Bryant's a topic. Mike Evans is never a topic. I mean, even among Bryant's, there's Kobe Bryant, the Cubs Chris Bryant, the former football coach Bear Bryant, and Bryant Gumbull.
Starting point is 00:07:39 They're more interesting and productive than Des Bryant. So officially on this show, this is the last time I'm ever talking about Des Bryant, I think, unless he becomes a patriot. It's incredible. Does this guy understand how lucky he was? He got Tony Romo, he got Jerry Jones, he got the star, he got Dallas, he got the brand, and he gave you Mike Wallace. It's incredible.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Let me shift gears to this. From somebody who is overrated to somebody, I think, historically, that's actually kind of underrated, LeBron James. I have never talked about the NBA in early October in my life. life, not one time. The NBA season usually opens second, third week of October. I don't talk about it until like the Christmas games. You know, defenses are changing. There's a lot of experimenting first two months. Of course, it's all changing now because this is A-Rod to the Yankees. This would be like Tom Brady going to the Cowboys. LeBron James is going to the number one brand in the NBA, the Los Angeles
Starting point is 00:08:44 Lakers. And yesterday, tonight they're playing the Golden State Warriors in Vegas. It's an exhibition game. I'll watch 30, 40, well, okay, I'll watch the whole thing. And I would never do that before. But Clay Thompson, a member of the Warriors, his dad's broadcaster for the Lakers, came out yesterday. And he said, you know, I think LeBron and the Lakers is actually pretty cool. San Francisco, L.A., have always had a rivalry. I think it's actually pretty cool. It adds a ton of interest to the league.
Starting point is 00:09:08 I expect him to greatly improve the Lakers. They've obviously got a bunch of guys who are proven now. There's a moment in this article by Bleacher Report, though. For all of you doubters on LeBron and the Lakers, there is a line in this story that says, with a supporting cast of Brandon Ingram, Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Josh Hart, Lance Stevenson, the Lakers aren't that much better than the Cavs squad.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Time out. Apparently this person's television doesn't work because he didn't watch the Cavs. I'm going to line up to you how much better the Lakers are than last year's Cavs team with LeBron that got to the finals. I'm going to line him up. So let's put Cleveland on the left, Lakers on the right, the best player for Cleveland.
Starting point is 00:09:52 Now that LeBron's gone is Kevin Love, who now is not only on the back nine of his career, Kevin Love is an 18-point-a-game defensive liability. The Lakers best player is Brandon Ingram, who's a significantly better defender, average 16.5 in a second year and projects, if you look at his averages, to be a 22-point-of-game guy this year with LeBron. LeBron's already animated. Yeah, I'm going to get him the ball. The second best player for the Cavs no longer fits in the NBA Tristan Thompson.
Starting point is 00:10:26 He can't shoot. Sort of an issue in 2018. The Lakers' second best player is Kyle Kuzma, who has a rookie average 16 a game. His numbers should go up. You know, because he'll be better. The third best cavalier is George Hill. 11 points, three assists career average. All say the Lakers' third best is Rondo.
Starting point is 00:10:48 11 points, 8 and a half assists, you know, passing's big for guards and a much better defender. The fourth best cab is J.R. Smith, I think, who's cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, but I do like him. He is fun and can shoot, but he may be the worst defensive player in the league. The fourth best player for the Lakers is KCP, a two guard, who's younger, longer, more athletic, hell of a defender. And right now, every bit the shooter. All the Cav players are older and getting worse. all the Laker players are younger and getting better. I did not mention Lanzo Ball and Josh Hart,
Starting point is 00:11:26 who Laker coaches, Doug Gottlieb told us yesterday, love both and project both as starters. Folks, if you think this team's going to struggle to get to 40 wins, you're out of your gourd. The Cavs without LeBron in the last four years, that's with Kevin Love. That was with Kyrie Irving. That was with J.R. Smith and Kyle Carr.
Starting point is 00:11:50 Last four years without LeBron. They were four and 23 in the weaker east. The Lakers last year without LeBron and a bunch of babies, a bunch of kids, won 35 games in the significantly tougher Western Conference. This Laker roster is younger, more athletic, quicker, longer, significantly better defensively. You are out of your mind. If you don't think this supporting cast for LeBron is better than that Cleveland supporting cast, their best player is Kevin Love, who is not only on the back nine,
Starting point is 00:12:29 I don't think Kevin Love's that far from retiring. If you listen to him talk, he'll go into broadcasting. I think Kevin Love is close to retiring. Brandon Ingram's got 10 years left. Kuzma's got 10. Lonzo's got 10. Josh Hart's got 10. KCP's got 8.
Starting point is 00:12:45 So they play the Warriors tonight. It doesn't really mean anything. he is the number one player on the number one brand. But when I hear people doubting if this team's going to get to 40, 42 wins, he got the calves to the finals, multiple years with Kyrie without him. We're four and 23 without LeBron. Last four years, that was with Kyrie and Kevin Love. Lakers, going to be just fine.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Coming up next, the number in sports that is actually the most important and the least disgust and why it's bad news for Aaron Rogers. That's coming up next. Fall is my favorite time of the year. Little chilly sometimes. That's why I love my Peter Millar clothes and their Perth performance pullover. Looks, feels great, super convenient. I can wear it if I want to hit golf balls.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Want to go out to dinner. Want to hang around to the weekend. and when it cools off and the sun goes down in the fall, I can grab their Perth performance pullover. It's lightweight, built-in stretch. All right, you can wear it to the office, you can wear it to the golf course, you can wear it out.
Starting point is 00:14:02 Do yourself a favor and get a Perth today. You and your golf game will thank me. Right now, head over to petermalar.com slash herd, H-E-R-D to get yours, and they've got all sorts of different styles. I've been wearing this stuff now since they started advertising for months. Be sure to use my link and you'll receive
Starting point is 00:14:19 complimentary shipping. That's key. And a free hat. That's Peter Millar. M-I-L-L-A-R. Peter Millar.com slash heard. Peter Millar.com slash heard. All right, Nick Wright in five minutes.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Don't be that guy in the room. Long, sloppy-looking untucked shirt. Untucket shirt. Shirt. Shirt. Shirt. Shirt. I think I'm wearing one today.
Starting point is 00:14:38 It's a beautiful blue shirt. I think this is an untucket shirt. You love that shirt. Soft and fabulous fabric. So I saw a story this morning. What ails the Packers offense? Aaron Rogers knee or other factors. Oh, boy, Colin, you talk a lot about Aaron Rogers.
Starting point is 00:14:53 No, you do. I just react to it. And the question is, hmm, what does Ail Aaron Rogers and the Packers? I'm going to talk about something. We thought coming into the season, Aaron Rogers is back and he's healthy. We thought their only roadblock was the Minnesota Vikings indivision. I'm going to talk about now a number that is rarely discussed but may perhaps be the closest and most accurate signal to how successful you'll be.
Starting point is 00:15:25 It is called PD point differential. The leader in college football right now in point differential is Alabama. Three of the four teams remaining in baseball, Astros, Dodgers, Red Sox, lead and run differential. Over the course of a season, the best teams historically separate from others, more blowouts, fewer big losses. if you, if I told you, who do you think leads the NFL in point differential? You'd be like, Rams, you're right. Chiefs, you're right. The Chicago Bears have the exact same point differential as the Kansas City Chiefs.
Starting point is 00:16:03 You see that right there? Rams, Chiefs, Bears? Let me ask you something. Well, Colin, prove that it really matters. Okay. Do you know who led the NFL last year in point differential? Patriots Eagles. Do you know who led the year before?
Starting point is 00:16:28 Patriots Falcons. In fact, since 2013, the leader in point differential has made the Super Bowl every year. In fact, there's only one team, the Arizona Cardinals in 2015, that were top two in the NFL in point differential. and didn't make the Super Bowl. And if I recall, Arizona made the NFC championship.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Lost to the Panthers, who, by the way, had a better point differential. Folks, Bama, baseball, football, point differential is how you know who's separating. There are three things everybody wants in the NFL right now. You want a young roster full of good players. Check. You'd like a dominating defensive front. Check. You'd love to have a clever young coach.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Matt Nagy, check. Now, I don't think Mitch Trubisky is special, but he's younger and healthier than Aaron Rogers, and he's got Matt Nagy working for him. The minute John Gruden, inexplicably decided, I don't see the value in Khalil Mack. And the Packers had a chance to get him passed and the Bears got him.
Starting point is 00:17:40 I said you'll rue the day. Because you're going to face Khalil Mack 10 times next five years minimum. He could be alongside Aaron Rogers at practice. He'll be Aaron Rogers' number one target 10 times next five years. Actually, already faced him once, help hurt him, it'll be nine. I think Packers and their fan base thought Minnesota was their only roadblock in that division. You start looking at point differential.
Starting point is 00:18:10 They got the right coach. Their defense is sick. almost all their good players are young and signed up for a while. That's the Aaron Rogers dilemma. That's why you had to get Khalil Mack away from Chicago once the story's surfaced that he was available. For the record, the Raiders last in the NFL on sacks and the Bears are number one in the NFL in four or five different categories, including getting to the
Starting point is 00:18:35 quarterback. What ails? Aaron Rogers? Well, I'm not sure this moment, but for the next five years, Chicago is going to be what ails him. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:18:50 This is the herd line news. All right, this conversation just keeps seeming to reappear. The struggle of being LeBron's teammates. Oh, come now. The new face of the Cavs, you mentioned him earlier. Kevin Love had this to say to Brian Winhorse. You have to follow. You have to learn a lot about that.
Starting point is 00:19:08 You're not the top guy. I just tried to continue to be myself and not fake it. I said how I felt, whether we disagreed or agreed, my voice was heard. You have to be resilient. I had a lot of hard nights. There were dark times, but I always believed keep fighting. Time out. So Kevin Love came out and said, when you play with LeBron, you have to kind of follow him.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Well, I'll be. That is amazing. Do you mean if you're a slot receiver with Aaron Rogers, he's going to lead you? You'd probably listen to Aaron Rogers? Yes, of course, Kevin Love would have to sort of follow LeBron's lead. How outrageous of a claim. I mean, look, I'm not going to judge what Kevin Love went through. Is this a controversy in America today?
Starting point is 00:19:53 I mean, are people upset about what Kevin Love is saying? I don't know about it. I don't know. I mean, it should be common knowledge. It's hard to play alongside a superstar. I'm sure it wasn't easy to play with Michael Jordan. We know it wasn't easy to play with Kobe Bryant. It's not easy to play with LeBron James. It's not easy to play with Tom Brom.
Starting point is 00:20:09 Brady sometimes. They demand greatness. There's a different level of expectations when you're playing with the best player on the planet. Especially with basketball. Small court, one ball. LeBron's a ball handler. Of course, you're going to, LeBron's going to say, if the Cavs would like to have Kevin Love set up LeBron the previous four years, let's see that works out. Okay, Kevin, you bring the ball up and LeBron will just follow you around the court like a puppy dog. Come on. I mean, look, Kevin Love got a little bit of the Chris Bosch treatment that, you know, happen in Miami where you know you're kind of the third option and when you don't play
Starting point is 00:20:42 well it's you get a lot of heat because you're not LeBron James so you're expected to be on a different level every night so when you're the reason why the team is not playing well because LeBron's playing well and Kyrie's playing well and it's like where are you at? Guess what Joy? It's hard to work in a kitchen with Gordon Ramsey
Starting point is 00:20:58 or you can go work at Applebee's it's hard to work under expectations but this is professional sports there's there's expectations and when you're playing a alongside LeBron James, and it is what it is. Dark times. So James Connor has had up and down to season,
Starting point is 00:21:14 but he is one of only four running backs with 300 plus yards rushing and 200 plus yards receiving through five weeks. Levy on Bell is expected to return to the Steelers in the next few weeks. And the question is, what will happen with Connor's workload? Well, Big Ben believes that Connor shouldn't be shelves when Bell returns. What I would say is I don't think James, I don't think we put him on the shelf by any means. When Leibon comes back, no way, shape, or form to James just say, okay, it's all yours.
Starting point is 00:21:46 I'm going to sit back and when you need me, excuse me. And I will push for James to get as much run as we can because we've seen some great things from him in all phases of football. By the way, this is why I said, don't bury the Steelers. It's very possible in three weeks. We're going to have Antonio Brown, Jujis Mishuster, the Washington kid, two pro bowl. Holder's O line. Lavian Bell, the Connor kid,
Starting point is 00:22:11 Big Ben, they're fine. There's nothing to write off. That's, that's for sure. That's silly. It's just a matter of, are they going to be able to get it rolling?
Starting point is 00:22:20 I think they're going to be fine. They're going to be fine. They crushed Atlanta this weekend. It was not competitive. They literally willed their way over the Falcons. I don't know how good Atlanta is this year. Well, there's something.
Starting point is 00:22:33 But, but this is interesting because there probably is some level of loyalty that's grown to James Connor based of the fact that he's been there and Leveon hasn't. And he can, by the way, forget loyalty. He can play. He's not Levyon Bell, but he can play. He's not Levyon Bell, but he's not going to do running back by committee with Levyon Bell.
Starting point is 00:22:49 No, but he's good. When Bell comes back, it's going to be his job. I'm sure they're going to work him in as far as the carries go because he hasn't been there. But two weeks after he's been there consistently, it's going to be his job. Finally, entering week six, the Rams and the Chiefs are the last two undefeated teams, so expectations
Starting point is 00:23:06 are high for both of them. Bet Online has posted the latest odds for either team going the entire season undefeated. Oh, God, no. God, no. Rams aren't going undefeated. Will the Rams or Chiefs go? No, God, no. Rams will end up with three or four.
Starting point is 00:23:21 Rams haven't left the state of California until last weekend, and they struggle with Seattle. By the way, yeah, they also play each other. I think New England this week is kind of New England, death by a thousand cuts is the way to beat Kansas City. That's the most interesting game this weekend. Yeah. Four yards, four yards. four yards, four yards, and Mahomes sits on the sideline, and they have 37 minutes of time of possession.
Starting point is 00:23:42 Because Kansas City's defense, New England's going to do that five-yard thing for two and a half, three hours. I think it'll be a very – I kind of like Kansas City, but no way are these teams going unbeaten. By the way, if you were 14 and 0, you'd rest starters in most cases. Right. You wouldn't play guys. You're not going to go for 16. We know the last team. That was the Patriots, and we know how that season ended.
Starting point is 00:24:03 And the only team to ever go undefeated and win the Super Bowl is, of course, the 72 Dolphins, which is outside of Marino. Yeah. It was a different time. It was easier then. It's hard. It's easier. Joey Taylor with the news.
Starting point is 00:24:16 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd-Ly News. By the way, $40,000. Want it to pay off your high-interest debt and your credit cards. Go to Lendingclub.com slash sports. Lendingclub.com slash sports. All sorts of stuff.
Starting point is 00:24:30 Let's go to my friend in New York. Nick Wright, First thing's first co-host, via The Coward, Global, Satellite Network. All right. start with something I know you'll have an opinion on. When I read a Bleacher report story, nothing against Bleacher report, and they said, you know, the Lakers and the Cavs, it's a wash. Maybe I'm out of my gourd, but if you look at that Laker roster, young, long, athletic, fast, all getting better, I think this is a significantly better roster.
Starting point is 00:24:56 Am I not than Cleveland? When LeBron James ripped the heart out of Boston in game six and seven last year, who was his second best player on the court in those two critical must-win games. The answer is Jeff Green. I would ask the writer of bleach reporter, are people watching right now? Do you know which team Jeff Green plays for at this moment? The second best player in a road must-win game. The answer is Washington, and I wish Jeff Green is best. That Cavs team was a 20-win team last year without LeBron James. It's why what he did in the regular season, the first round against Indy,
Starting point is 00:25:38 the sweep against Toronto, the comeback seven-game road series against Boston is one of the most impressive accomplishments of his career. The Lakers roster is far from perfect. It is flawed. It needs more talent. It needs more experience. But LeBron's second best player last year was Kevin Love, who was in and out of the lineup with,
Starting point is 00:26:01 mental health issue and all the power to him for fighting through that and for seeking help and then a broken hand. J.R. had the second worst year of his career. Isaiah, I mean, Isaiah Thomas was unplayable. Jordan Clarkson didn't look like an NBA player. Like, come on. Brandon Ingram, Lanzo Ball, Kuzma, Hart, all would have been at least the third best player on that team. Give me a break. And Rondo, by the way, had a hell of a year last year. nobody talked about it, but Rondo played. Oh, I wouldn't, yeah. For sure.
Starting point is 00:26:33 Yeah, he was really good. All right, so you're in New York, and I've got to lean on you sometimes for stuff like this. You know I've been critical of OBJ, the kicking net, and the theatrics, and, you know, I'm a reasonably opinionated guy. I supported him this week. I said, listen, everybody needs somebody in the room. Somebody's got to stand up at Thanksgiving dinner and say, Uncle Phil, your comments are inappropriate. and grandma, you can't drive anymore. Like, somebody in a family has to say that.
Starting point is 00:27:02 In the NFL, unlike the NBA and baseball, there's about three guys a locker room that could say something critical and not be demoted. In New York, it's Odell Beckham. He addressed the elephant in the room. He started the process of getting Eli out of there, which he should have been a year to two years ago. I supported him for that.
Starting point is 00:27:22 How has it been, it was outspoken, but he didn't say anything untrue. And he is the only giant that can talk. talk and not get demoted. How did it play in New York? What is the media saying? Is he getting pushed back? And your thoughts on the OBG comments on Eli?
Starting point is 00:27:38 All right. So a lot there. First of all, most importantly, somewhere in your subconscious, you've been watching Fresh Prince of Bel Air because you went Uncle Phil and I support that move. But most importantly, let me address all this. He's getting killed in New York because of course he is. But I would ask the audience, anyone killing him,
Starting point is 00:27:56 did what Odell Beckham say? Was it true? Oh, yeah, it was true. Did it hurt them on the field? Well, they scored the most points they've scored in two and a half years. Now, I don't think it helped them on the field, but I also didn't think the boat trip hurt them on the field. And I've heard forever, oh, the team, the boat trip. You can't be on a bass boat on a Tuesday and play football on a Sunday. We all know that. And it is no more ludicrous to say the comments are why they scored 30 points for the first time in two and a half years. then it would have been to say the boat trip was why they struggled. But he's getting killed anyway. Here's the reason why I think you're right for supporting him. Everyone is assuming it was an unpopular sentiment in the locker room. Man, you know how many Giants won a Super Bowl with Eli Manning that are on this team? Zach Diasi, the long snapper.
Starting point is 00:28:49 That's the list. Odell said, what I imagine, Sterling Shepherd, Sequin Barclay, Evan Ingram. Again, I'm not reporting this, but what I would imagine, a lot of those guys are thinking. And you're right, he has the power to do it. He has the juice to do it. And it's just, oh, but he wasn't supposed to do it. Okay, I mean, why? It becomes a snake in its tail.
Starting point is 00:29:15 He's not supposed to do it because it's a distraction. Why is he not supposed to do it because it's distraction? Why is it distraction? Because he's not supposed to do it. But it's accurate. It didn't hurt the team. And it forces the giant. maybe to talk about something internally.
Starting point is 00:29:30 They should be talking about and they should have been talking about for the last year and a half, two years, three years, if we're being honest, five years. Eli Manning ain't any good anymore. Yes. He's not any good anymore. And Colin, like everyone says Odell should pay homage to Eli.
Starting point is 00:29:46 The year before O'Dell got there, Eli Manning had 18 touchdowns, 27 picks, and a 69 passer rating. He was the worst quarterback in football the year before the kid with the kid what the yellow hair showed up. Maybe Eli should be a little deferential to him, but I know you're not supposed to say that. Yeah, I know. But I think we both agree on that point. You know, I know. You've changed your opinion. It's well done. I applaud it. Thank you. When I'm watching,
Starting point is 00:30:12 I said earlier today to start my show, generally great players get talked about like LeBron, Brady, and Breeze. On my show, average, you know, regular guys don't get talked about on my show unless there's a controversy. Dak Prescott's had three great years in his career. on average great players, Rice, Marvin Harrison, Chris Carter, T.O. Ocho. All the great receivers, Calvin Johnson, average, not Dak, Des. I'm talking Des Bryant. So Des Bryant had three great years. Great receivers averaged nine great years. Could I make the argument? I said this morning I'm never talking about Des Bryant again. And now I am 10 minutes later. Could I make the argument that Des Bryant is the single most overrated NFL star?
Starting point is 00:30:56 in my lifetime, that he would not be discussed if he was a buccaneer or a bear, that he owes the Cowboys a debt of gratitude in Jerry Jones. He had three great years. He's a shot fighter mostly, and we still talk about him on shows like this. Well, so that's interesting. And right when you said it,
Starting point is 00:31:16 I was trying to roll through the rolodex of names of who else is up there, who else could be in the conversation. And I can't think of one. You're absolutely right. Des Bryant's entire legend is three years in a ball that he didn't catch. Like, that is what it was. Now, for those three years, he was special. He was a great player, averaging 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns in those three years, but that's it. And it's now been three years since those three years. I don't think Des Bryant wants to play football,
Starting point is 00:31:49 because I don't think Des Bryant's an idiot. And Des Bryant knows at this point that the Twitter commentary isn't helping him. He knows he overestimated the market when he turned down seven years 21 million from the Ravens, but then he got a life preserver from Cleveland, and he tried to fight them on money as well. Maybe Des Bryant's done very well with his money. Maybe he's comfortable. Maybe he realizes, man, it's nice not to get hit for a living. I think Des Bryant wants to play for the Cowboys or nobody else, because every decision he makes, it shows you, he's not interoperable. He's not interested in attracting the next team, but I think you're correct that the legend of Des Brian at this point is greater than the production of Des Bryant.
Starting point is 00:32:35 Finally, we don't, we're not baseball guys. You grow up in Kansas City. I grew up in Seattle, mostly sad places last 30 years to love baseball. But I'm going to give you the floor for 90 seconds on this because Aaron Boone's my friend, he's getting blamed for the Yankees loss, and you live in New York. I've said this for years. Alex Cora manages the Red Sox. he makes no more money than the football coach at Western Kentucky or Troy that baseball sends us a message constantly. Managers don't matter. They don't matter.
Starting point is 00:33:04 They don't pay them anything. Aaron Boone's getting sliced and diced in New York because the Yankees got beat by a, I don't know, significantly better baseball team. Your thoughts. All right. So everything you're saying there's correct. And if people underestimate or overestimate the type of salary these baseball managers get. I'm not going to put the exact numbers out there, but let me say this to the audience.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Colin Coward hasn't walked through a door for what Aaron Boone makes in a year in the last decade. I mean, it's so, I mean, oh, it's true. Look it up, America. It's accurate. So I saw the back page of the New York Post the day after the Yankees lose game three. A game they lost 16 to 1 is fileting the manager. They lost by two touchdowns and a two-point conversion. They're like, man, Aaron Boone blew it. Listen, the Yankee, Stanton in this series didn't have an extra base hit, didn't have an RBI. They ran into a 108 win team. I heard you talking about point differential earlier, Colin. There are two great teams in baseball this year, two historically great teams, the Red Sox and the Astros. They're the two teams that are supposed to be playing in the ALCS. To blame Aaron
Starting point is 00:34:14 Boone for this is lunacy. The Yankees are ahead of schedule. Last year, they shouldn't even made the playoffs. They make game seven of the ALCS. This year, this year, year, they went 100 games. They just ran into a better team. And I don't know Aaron Boone. I'm glad he's friends with you, though, because you can loan him some money. Nick Cright, my buddy, first things first. Also, I listen to him every day on that Mad Dog Radio channel. Say hi to Russo. He's nuts. You guys do a great job. Thanks, buddy. And Joy Taylor, great job on the sideline. I meant to text you. Great job. That was awesome. Thank you, guys. You looked very European and sophisticated.
Starting point is 00:34:52 Did I? Oh, yeah, I thought you looked. You know what? Your hometown is very rainy. And this hair, it's not made for the rain. Let me, my staff did a good job here. Baseball tells you constantly. The owners and the GMs tell you.
Starting point is 00:35:04 We don't think baseball managers are that valuable. Baseball has a 162 game season. College football's got a 12 game season. Look at the salaries of coaches. Tom Herman, 6 million, Harbaas, 7 and a half. Alex Cora makes 800 grand a year. Aaron Boone for the Yankees, a little over a million. It's analytics in 2018, the owner's telling you, the GM's telling you for the Red Sox and Yankees.
Starting point is 00:35:32 Defensive coordinators in the SEC make more than Aaron Boone and Alex Cora. It's kind of staggering, actually. Because it doesn't matter. Stop blaming managers at baseball. Giancarlo's salary, Giancarlo's salary, John Carlos Stanton's salary, is worth the top 21 managers in baseball. He's more valuable than 21 managers combined according to the pay scale and Major League Baseball. Coming up next, the next Belichick and Nick Saban in football. He's going to get 20 guys fired.
Starting point is 00:36:04 That is coming up next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeart Radio app. So great to have you in. Nick Wright was Money Baby Brian Cox, Joel Clat, Rob Parker in studio. Joy Taylor joining us today. Great is a really important thing. And there's very little great. There are very few great NBA players.
Starting point is 00:36:28 There are very few great quarterbacks. But Great creates clarity. Because you look at great and go, oh, if we draft the right quarterback, man, we're good every year. Look at the possibilities. If we get the right coach. Right now we have something very rare in the history of football. This has never happened. we have the greatest college football coach in the history of college football and the greatest NFL coach.
Starting point is 00:36:54 And they're winning, dominating simultaneously. Okay. It doesn't work that way. Generally, you don't have the greatest this against the greatest that. You had Jack Nicholson, or Jack Nicholas, he was done playing, then came Tiger Woods. You know what I mean? You have like, it doesn't work that way. You had Wilt, then he retires and then, oh, here comes for the next 20 years.
Starting point is 00:37:14 Then it's Jabbar, then it's Shaq. and we have the best college and the best pro football coach. And Nick Saban has created clarity. Over 55 coaches in the SEC have been fired since Nick Saban arrived. Because every athletic director in the South and the SEC goes, well, if we get the right coach with all these great high school football players in the South, we should win 12 games a year every year. Why not? And so Nick Saban has created clarity. You get the coach right with all those great Southern high school football stars,
Starting point is 00:37:50 you should absolutely vie for a national championship every year. Nick hasn't even gotten the quarterback right most years. Now, similarly in the NFL, Bill Belichick, 18 years, has created clarity. Oh, in the NFL, 20 different coaches in the AFC East alone, hired, fired. Oh, if you get the coach right, I could have Matt Castle when Tom Brady gets hurt. I'd still win 11 games. Clarity. Great creates it.
Starting point is 00:38:24 You compare everything to Sabin, everything to Belichick, everything to LeBron. The next Sabin and Belichick in the NFL right now is Sean McVeigh of the L.A. I just saw in Vegas the first head coach to be fired list. And these guys are going to get run out of the league. Jason Garrett, Dirk Cutter, Vance Joseph, Bill O'Brien, Hugh Jackson. They're not going to last. Because Sean McVeigh not only won, but it's the manner in which he won. The Rams were on hard knocks with Jeff Fisher.
Starting point is 00:38:58 Jared Goff was their number one pick and appeared to be an absolute bust. And then Sean McVeigh is hired with just one training camp, Jared Goff's first game, 21 for 29, 300 yards, and he won 46 to 9 in one training camp. It's not that Sean McVeigh won. It's the immediacy in which he won. Sean McVey is creating clarity for every owner in this league.
Starting point is 00:39:31 How many years do I have to give? Dirk Cutter, Bill O'Brien, Hugh Jackson, Vance Joseph, Jason Garrett. Well, Colin, the Rams have spent a lot of money. Oh, really? Cooper Cup and Robert Woods. Brandon Cooks. You have all those guys on your fantasy team?
Starting point is 00:39:47 Do you know who Andre Whitworth was before he became a ram? John Sullivan at Senator? Andrew Whitworth. Do you know who they were? Didn't have him on your fantasy team? Well, what about Todd Gurley? What about him? There's a lot of good backs in the NFL.
Starting point is 00:39:59 That offense doesn't look like the Rams. Great creates clarity. Belichick. get it right, you should win every year. Sean McVeigh is going to have over the next five years, he is going to run guys out of this league. When he took Jared Goff from the Fisher year to now he's a potential MVP, I'm looking around if I own the Texans.
Starting point is 00:40:26 How long do you need with Deshaun Watson? How long do you need? I see the kid in L.A., Sean McVeigh. How many years with Deshawn Watson? Oh, he's hurt again? I'm Jerry Jones. Jason Garrett. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:40:40 Golf was terrible. Now he's great. Great also eliminates excuses. And when I'm watching this Rams team, and I'm watching this offense, and I'm looking at these hot coach lists, McVeigh is the next guy. He's a paradigm shifter.
Starting point is 00:40:58 There's just no excuses anymore. If you can take Jared Gough and he looked like under Fisher and make him an MVP guy the first two years back, there's no more excuses. Jared Goffleck's terrible. There's no more excuses. Jeff Fisher got to a Super Bowl. Can't be that bad.
Starting point is 00:41:13 It's amazing what that guy's doing. By the way, there's a story out that the Philadelphia Eagles, I don't even understand this. I'll even say this. Joy, when the Philadelphia Eagles won the Super Bowl, wasn't their big brand were aggressive? That was their big brand, right? Yes. Like, that was their thing. Aggressive underdogs.
Starting point is 00:41:37 Fourth down, go for it, underdogs. So I see a story this morning. Philadelphia, the Eagles were reportedly calling the bills to ask about Lashon McCoy, the running back. Why would you think that small? Why wouldn't you go after Lavian Bell? Lavian Bell is the prize on the market. Who cares if you only get him for a year? What's the cost of another Super Bowl?
Starting point is 00:42:03 I mean, I'm sorry, but how many Super Bowls does Dallas have in that division? division, five, how many do the Giants have four? How many is Washington and have three? Philadelphia's got one. Correct me if I'm wrong, but these windows closed quickly in two years you're going to have to pay Carson Wentz. You just restructured Fletcher Cox's deal. What are you doing with Shady McCoy? Lavian Bell's a bigger, stronger, younger, faster, better pass receiving Shady McCoy. What are you doing? Aren't you the, aren't you the aggressive guys? Lavian Bell all-time minimum 62 games has averaged the most scrimmage yards per game in NFL history
Starting point is 00:42:39 over Jim Brown, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, and Walter Payton. And you're worried by Shady McCoy? You got a guy in your own state. I mean, Carson Wentz has two years left, and you're going to have to pay him a fortune. We saw the Seahawks. The minute they had to pay Russell Wilson, window closed.
Starting point is 00:42:57 You've got to take advantage of what you're paying Patrick Mahomes and Carson Wentz and Dak Prescott and Jared Gough. Why do you think the Rams are backing up the Brinks truck? Because in two years, they're going to pay Jared Gough 30 million a year. That's why they're paying in Domincu and Aaron Donald. That's why they're paying, you know, Akeeb Talib and Brandon Cooks and Robert Woods, and Whitworth, and Sullivan, and Gurley. I mean, folks, the Eagles' depth chart, they play tomorrow night against the Giants.
Starting point is 00:43:29 they're relying on Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams at running back. I'm going to go with Lavian Bell is a slight upgrade. I'm reading that story this morning. Philadelphia. Philly, Philly, you're aggressive. You're the go for it team. Who cares if you rent him? What is the price of another Super Bowl?
Starting point is 00:43:51 Your offensive lines banged up, he could help solve it. Your secondary can't hold a lead. What would solve it? Ball control on offense. Philadelphia. Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep. You talk aggressive, be aggressive. Shady. Go after Levian Bell. Hour two next in L.A.L.A. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific. Welcome back. Hour number two in Los Angeles. Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1, wherever you may be. And however you may be listening. Hour number two, we are loaded today. Joel Clatt, Brian Cox, Rob Parker. This is just a fun day for me. I got a good night. I've got an untucket dress shirt on.
Starting point is 00:44:32 I feel powerful today. Joy, how are you? Doing fabulous. We kind of have the same color on, actually. We do. We're matching and stuff today. Here, whenever people complain, you ever hear people that complain about anything that's new?
Starting point is 00:44:48 Yes. You know why people do that? Because a lot of people don't want to change because change equals work and most people are lazy. A lot of people are just lazy. And if, oh, I got to learn this program. Oh, I got to learn this program. to do this assignment. Oh, I've got to change my protocol. All these people in the NFL whining about
Starting point is 00:45:05 the quarterback hits. No, as a coaching staff, you have to have more meetings, you have to have a couple new meetings, you have to implement stuff at practice. It means more work, and a lot of people are lazy, including NFL coaches. Bill Belichick was asked yesterday, and by the way, the Patriots haven't been flagged for a roughing the passer all season. Oh, what a shock that they actually put the time in and the work in and the teaching in, when people complain about not liking new stuff, it's because they're lazy and don't want to do the work. Trent Dilfer was on our show a couple days ago.
Starting point is 00:45:39 And we were talking about how the Bears' offense looks different. It's clever and smart and it's new. And the Rams offense and the Patriots in Kansas City. You watch a lot of these NFL teams and you're like, they just put more time in. And Dilford talked about that. people think that all NFL coaches are created equal. They're not.
Starting point is 00:46:00 There's many that are just way smarter than the rest. And there's some that are just lazy. And they've just kind of climbed the ladder because they know the right people. And they've said the right things. And they've done well in interviews. And they got an owner to fall in love with them or a head coach or they're loyal. Half of the NFL jobs just because you've been loyal to a guy. Then there's the special ones.
Starting point is 00:46:20 There's the McVeys that they're just smarter. They're just better. They just work harder than others. I see this all the time. Whenever I hear a comedian complain, well, it's two PC. I mean, you used to be able to tell certain jokes and you can't, you're a comedian.
Starting point is 00:46:37 Bra, write new jokes. It just opens up another door. But that means you're going to have to spend 10,000 hours writing another 20-minute set. And that's hard, and it takes a year even for a great comedian. But when I hear comedians complaining about it's to PC now. Oh, yeah. Yeah, you got to treat women with respect.
Starting point is 00:46:55 How terrible. Yeah, it is to, we now have, like, feelings for people that don't have power historically. Then write new jokes. You know, when you watch Tom Brady, Tom versus Time, weren't you, you had to have when you watched that. You were watching a guy and you're like, holy crap, he puts this much time into it? I watch tape all day Monday, all day Tuesday, and then Saturday before the game I watch films. I don't know why I can sit here and watch it and, you know, process information quickly, but I can. Running and lifting has been much harder to develop than this.
Starting point is 00:47:33 This has kind of been in me. And I could literally like just watch film all day. Most guys in the league aren't sitting at home off-season watching film all day. Of course the Patriots haven't been penalized. It's hard. A lot of people are lazy. Don't put in the time. By the way, Andy Reid, last 25 years, he's had Jeff Garcia, Michael Vick, Donovan McNabb, Ty Detmer,
Starting point is 00:48:04 Alex Smith. He's had to implement new offenses every quarterback. Now he's got Patrick Mahomes who can do things Alex Smith couldn't and Ty Detmer couldn't. And Michael Vick could do things that Andy Reid just keeps reinventing what he does over and over and over. I know this about Andy Reed and I don't know him that well, but I know this. Dude puts in the time. He's doing Tom Brady in the offseason. That's why Kansas City starts, and he reads teams historically are so good in September.
Starting point is 00:48:27 He spends the offseason in a room dialing up new plays and creating new plays. Well, and with that, I know it's only NBA preseason, but LeBron and the Lakers face Golden State tonight in Vegas. And our rabble rouser, our instigator, Rob Parker, is joining us on the show. A journalist. What's happening, George? Good morning. Colin, good morning. It's a nice suit you're wearing there. You look very professional.
Starting point is 00:48:52 USC professor. You have you and Bruce Ard have that new radio show. But wait a minute. Before we get there real quick. Yeah. Yeah. The Patriots don't have any roughing the past. They have no pass rush. That's why. They don't get to the quarterback. Come on. You know they don't have a pass rush. It's not great. Okay. All right. Just admit that. That's a pretty good line. Thank you. Clay Thompson yesterday said, I think the Lakers LeBron is going to be kind of cool.
Starting point is 00:49:18 I think he's going to make them way better. and then in this Bleacher report story, people are like saying, well, I mean, the Laker roster and the Cav roster is the same. Okay, in the Tougher West, this Laker roster full of babies, kids who are all getting better, they're all emerging, they're longer, they're getting better,
Starting point is 00:49:37 they won 35 games. The last four years, the Cavs roster without LeBron James, won 23. That's with Kyrie and Kevin Love and Kyrie's now out. these people that don't think the Lakers are going to win 50 games, I may up it to 58 by the end of the segment.
Starting point is 00:49:54 Let's make a bet because I'm one of those people who don't buy into it at all. At all. At all. I think it's so overhyped and I think bravo to Clay Thompson. He's right on the money that this team is no better than the Cavaliers team. Colin, why are you poo-pooing the guys who helped him win a championship and beat those warriors? Don't act like that doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:50:15 All these young kids, you're right. you might say potentially, but they haven't done anything yet. And I still need to see it for myself and see them. It's different when the Lakers used to come into town and there was nobody there in young kids and you might have taken them for granted. Now every game is a big game and it all matters. Now I want to see when you're not just chucking up shots on a 35 win team and there's no blowback if you don't make it.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Now all of a sudden, you're playing with LeBron. And if he throws you a pass with a wide open three, Lonzo ball, and you airball it or don't make it, you'll have a totally different way people look at you compared to last year. You don't think Kyle Kuzman and Brandon Ingram in 2018 are better than Tristan Thompson, George Hill, J.R. Smith? You might say that you're saying potentially, yes. But I'm talking about what has happened and to just say like those guys
Starting point is 00:51:15 that won a championship didn't matter. J.R. Smith might not after the blunder and as he gets older. I get all that as we go forward. But don't think that that team that he has now is automatically better just because LeBron came to a younger team. LeBron is average. Even in high school to the Cavs, then Cavs to Miami and Miami back to Cleveland. His first year back, they on average win 11 games.
Starting point is 00:51:40 11. The Lakers team. So that's 46 and not 50. Okay, it is. It is. But Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram had injuries probably don't have to be relied on physically to the same level. There are also players who are getting better. Brandon Ingram went from six and a half a game. No, excuse me, eight a game to 16 and a half a game. It's reasonable to assume he's in the 19 to 22 a game. Kyle Kuzma, 16 is a rookie. Reasonable to assume, he goes to 18 to 20. I like both of those guys. And I understand why you like him or whatnot. I just think the Western Conference, conference is totally different. The Lakers will be the Super Bowl every time teams play them
Starting point is 00:52:19 because of LeBron is involved. And I think there will be a lot more pressure on those younger kids playing in games that matter. How about Lonzo Bowl? Let's shift to that. The Lonzo ball is the one I'm most fascinated to watch because I think Lonzo is more effective when he has the ball. And I think LeBron can be effective with or without it, but prefers the ball. How do you think LeBron Lonzo works? I don't think it works at all. And this is a lot. And this is, This is a bad sign from this standpoint. Think about it, Colin. LeBron handles the basketball.
Starting point is 00:52:50 You got Rondo who's going to start the season as the starter. And then Ingram, remember when he played point guard last year? He played very well. He could be effective. He could be very effective with the basketball. Josh Hart, by the way, can also handle the ball. He can handle it as well. So now that leaves Lonzo out of the mix.
Starting point is 00:53:06 There's not enough basketball. And then they're talking about he's going to play between 10 and 30 minutes, which is weird because it's probably going to be. be 10 and 13 or 15 minutes with the second unit. And this guy went from the face. That's what Magic said. Not you, not me. He's going to be the face of the franchise.
Starting point is 00:53:25 We're going to hang his jersey at the Staples Center to now coming off the bench. LeBron says he looks good. He looks like he didn't even have surgery and he's playing great. That's what LeBron said. So why is he not starting, Colin? Why are you picking a veteran like Rondo to start? If you got this star, it was supposed to be the face of the franchise, with LeBron.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Because Lonzo had surgery didn't work out a lot on the knee during the offseason. And the sense is he's not in game shape. He needs three weeks to work himself into the starting position. I think that Rondo has potentially the chance to steal that job from him if it starts off well. You tell me right now. Okay. If they get off to a good start and they're playing well and Rondo and LeBron are clicking, you're going to go back to Lanzo ball?
Starting point is 00:54:11 You're going to take Rondo out? I don't think you would. I think that's a very legitimate point. I do think I have suggested before that I like Lonzo. I'm not sure if this is a great fit. Rondo, listen, you got three guys that are going to hit jumpers on this team. KCP, Brandon Ingram, LeBron James, sometimes Kuzman depends on he's hot. Lanzo needs the ball to be effective and you can't have him just wandering around the court
Starting point is 00:54:39 because if you pass him the ball, he's not a shooter. And that's the other problem. So if you have all these other guys who are ball handlers, right? And then Lonzo becomes that guy who's open because people, he has a suspect jumper, right? So they leave him open. Right. He's got to knock down that three. He's got to knock down shots.
Starting point is 00:54:56 This is funny, though. We acknowledge that, okay, would you just acknowledge this? Golden State's the best team in the West. No doubt about it. You also acknowledged last year after another title, fatigue in the regular season is very clear. They mail it in about once a week. Yeah, but they have the right to. I get that.
Starting point is 00:55:15 Okay, but they do. We would acknowledge Houston's the second best team in the West, but they won't be as good defensively. Areza gone, Carmelo Inn. No doubt about it. Okay. The third best team. Oh, Minnesota's got a nightmare in their hands.
Starting point is 00:55:28 Jimmy Butler's leaving. We did see the way that Russell Westbrook and Paul George exited the playoffs. It was a mess. Yeah, but I think him coming back is a good thing. I think they'll be better than you think. I think Westbrook's going to be now suddenly a great distributor? You're telling me. I'm not saying that, but I just think that they could be better.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Are you one of these guys that thinks the Lakers are a borderline playoff team? I think the Lakers are going to be the sixth or seventh seed. We could do double or nothing. You beat me on one bet. What did I beat you on? I beat you on the AFC championship games. Where the Jaguars led the Patriots 20 to 10 going into the fourth quarter? Excuse me, we bet the Patriots would win.
Starting point is 00:56:05 No, I know. I'm just saying what the score was. So you already owe me one dinner. Oh, you won. Okay. What is the year over under on this team? the Laker team. I say that they win 46.
Starting point is 00:56:15 That's not that far. I'm kind of in the 49 to 52 range because I don't think they'll start great because LeBron doesn't like practice. Right. So generally speaking for LeBron, he didn't hit it until about January. After the trading deadline, he focuses in. So you're not that abstract. I mean, you're at 46.
Starting point is 00:56:33 I'm at 49. I got Chris Bouchard telling me 52, 53 wins. I don't think he's nuts. I think the West is. way overvalued. Minnesota now is a mess, hasn't done anything, and then you got the Jimmy Butler mass. But wait a minute, look at it on the flip side. LeBron struggled last year.
Starting point is 00:56:50 Look, struggled to beat Indiana with Oladipo and nobody, struggled, seven-game series, and then struggled in the East against Boston with their two biggest stars out. So when you just look at it and go automatically, LeBron moving to the West and the West isn't as good, I'm just telling you, it's overvalued, overhyped. people will be disappointed because I just don't I don't think the Lakers are going to be there this year. I really don't. One football topic. Jay, I said Sean McVeigh is going to become the Sabin of college football and the Belichick of the NFL.
Starting point is 00:57:22 That when you watch the Rams play, they are so dynamic and so clever and so thoughtful and so layered. They simply look like they're putting in more time in the film room. They just look like, oh, that team's incredible. I'm glad you're saying that. I thought when you mentioned Belichick that maybe he's. he has the defensive signals of the opponents that they're playing. No, no, no. But I'm saying Sean McVeigh is going to become Sabin and Belichick.
Starting point is 00:57:47 He's going to get a generation of coaches fired. And I think Jason Garrett, I think when I watch the Rams and I watch the Cowboys, you know what the Cowboys look like? They're not putting in the time. They're not clever. They're not intuitive. They don't have multiple sets. They look vanilla.
Starting point is 00:58:01 They don't look. When I watch Dallas, it's like those coaches don't work as hard as the Rams coaches do. By the way, they both have great backs. They both have great left tackles. They both have mostly possession-wide receivers. You can't tell me Rams have great talent and the Cowboys have none. Jason Garrett on most teams would have been fired already because it's just been lackluster. I told you that the Cowboys are not America's team.
Starting point is 00:58:24 They're South America's team because their record has been under 500 mostly with Jason Garrett. What have they made the playoffs? Only twice in his tenure. Most owners would not put up with that. But I think Jerry just loves the idea of him having as much influence and Jason just loving being an NFL coach, so he just deals with him. No, the argument is, and I've heard this before, that Garrett feels that he owes Jerry the right to have influence,
Starting point is 00:58:50 and Jerry likes to have influence. So there are a perfect dysfunctional combination where Jerry can literally sit in on a Monday and listen to the game plan, and no other coach would give him that. No, that shouldn't be your place. If you hired me to be the coach, you should allow me to be the coach and you be the owner. Don't you have other things to do rather than being in,
Starting point is 00:59:09 What they always say, too many cooks, spoil of broth. You can't have more people than you need. Rob Parker, Rabell Rouser, Instigator. He's got a show with Chris Broussard now on Fox Sports Radio on a daily basis, starting at what time is it? 4 p.m. Pacific, 7 p.m. Eastern. The odd couple. Give us the call.
Starting point is 00:59:27 One day we're going to have you on the show. How's that? Do I call in, you mean? Yeah, call in. I'll be a crazy caller. Hey! Hey! Bill's win the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 00:59:35 Take your answer off the air. I will all call with a fake voice. Rob Parker, good seeing you, bud. Always. Buy, sell, and hold, and Joel Clatt and I, old arm wrestle before the end of this hour. Plus, Brian Cox, always a good view, always a good listen coming up. The MLB postseason continues Friday with game one of the NLCS.
Starting point is 00:59:57 Dodgers' Ace Clayton Pershaw will take the mound as the kickoff the series against Christian Yellets and the Brewers. Coverage begins at 7 Eastern on FS1 and the Fox Sports app. These are the two teams that were vying to get Manny Machado and the Dodgers got him over the Brewers and they gave up a bunch of minor leaguers. It's funny in baseball. The Dodgers are like, you know, because Seeger got hurt.
Starting point is 01:00:15 They needed somebody. They're like, we'll get Machado. We'll give you a bunch of minor league players. Not even a second thought. For a good franchise, that's not desperate. They've won the National League West many years. And, you know, Brewers, similarly, we're willing to give up a lot to get him. In the NFL, Lavian Bell's better than Jim Brown historically.
Starting point is 01:00:31 And teams were like, I don't know. We'd have to give up a third rounder? There's zero chance. Any third rounder is as good. as Lavian Bell. There's no chance. I mean, I guess for trade pieces, but that's kind of the point of what we're talking about here. I don't get the harboring of the draft picks.
Starting point is 01:00:49 There's no guarantees in the draft. By the way, after I get my quarterback and coach right, and I have a left tackle and a pass rusher, I'll give up anything for stars. 90% of these, how many, Alabama is the best college football program in the country. In 10 years, how many great NFL players have they provided to the league? Julio Jones, you're all doing the same thing I am. I don't know. Who's the second one?
Starting point is 01:01:19 How many great players does the NFL have 50? Well, I mean, talk about how many guys go undrafted. You have the ability to believe below that draft pick or you can get Levian Bell. If I'm Philadelphia, Shady McCoy, Labian Bell's in the market. Here's a second and a third. I'll give you a second this year or a third of the following year. Well, what if he leaves us? What if he doesn't?
Starting point is 01:01:41 What if he doesn't leave you? Then I got Carson Wentz, Labian Bell, that offensive line and that defensive line. Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Speaking of Labion Bell. By the way, it should be noted.
Starting point is 01:01:55 Mani Machado could be a rental too. Dodgers gave up all these minor. Yeah, he's a rental. Basically, Seeger's coming back. So the Dodgers knew, Seagher's coming back. Machado's a complete rental. Windows to win championships in any sport are very small. Clayton Kirshaws no longer is dominant.
Starting point is 01:02:10 You got maybe one or two more years of him being an A-minus guy. Make the move. So the last hour we talked about how we're not really panicking about the Steelers' slow start, but it is apparent that the odds makers are. Bet Online has a Steelers with only the third highest odds to win the AFC North. That's stupid. I mean, that's just stupid. Cincinnati's not winning the AFC North.
Starting point is 01:02:33 Come on. I mean, they're playing well. I can't get excited about the Cincinnati Bengals. I just can't. I can't trust them. I'm sorry. The Steelers are going to get it together, and they're going to get Levion back after late 7. By the way, Baltimore's point differential is like 55.
Starting point is 01:02:45 It's second best in the league to the Rams. Baltimore's winning that division. I don't care what happened last week. Baltimore is winning that division. So in what might be the most hyped preseason game ever, Lonzo Ball will return to the court tonight and play alongside LeBron for the very first time. Very exciting. I got to tell my wife.
Starting point is 01:03:01 Everybody's going to be watching. Watching NBA in October. For this exhibition game. So naturally, Lonzo was asked how he intends to coax us with LeBron, and here was his answer. I mean, I'm looking forward to having a lot of fun and winning a lot of games. You know, he's best player in the world. Just do what I can to help him out. We're playing fast, so, you know, I'll be getting the ball to him a lot.
Starting point is 01:03:21 He can do the same, you know, just rebound to push it. So, you know, it's going to be a very interesting dynamic. By the way, if LeBron's hitting, as you know when you covered him in Miami, LeBron's jump shot sometimes leaves him. I think LeBron will like playing with Lonzo. when his jump shots in rhythm, because Lonzo gets to Baldy in great spots. But when LeBron starts to struggle with his jumper, and he does this all the time, he'll have a couple times in the season.
Starting point is 01:03:45 He'll go through like a seven-day stretch, seven-game stretch. LeBron loses his jumper. And when LeBron loses confidence in his jumper, what does he want, Joy? The ball to score at the basket. That's where the rub is. When LeBron's in his groove of shooting well, he'll love playing on the same court with Lonzo. But when Lonzo's passing in the rock, and LeBron's like, I don't have confidence in my jumper. then LeBron's going to get frustrated like you do some of it.
Starting point is 01:04:09 Because LeBron is not a guy that goes through 82 games feeling great. He's not Kevin Durant. That's just not who he is. He's not Ray Allen. He's not Dirk Novitsky. He loses confidence in his jumper every year. Well, also, despite the fact that, you know, Kevin Love is saying he's tough to play alongside, LeBron is a great teammate.
Starting point is 01:04:28 And he is a good evaluator of talent for the most part. Like, he studies the game. So he's going to know the right position to put Lonzo in. And this overreaction to, like, Lanzo ball not being good or being a bust or something is just, it's just bizarre to me. I'm so excited for this. He averaged Jason Kid numbers his rookie year. Yes. Like, it's not the end of the world.
Starting point is 01:04:50 And he's had that same jump shot the entire time. And just as a note, how you shoot the ball is not, like, from your hands is not the entire where you shoot. There's a whole rest of your body that goes into how you properly shoot a basketball. So everyone calm down. He also added about 15 to 20 pounds to his frame. He does look thicker, yeah. He is a lot bigger. And finally, sticking with the Lakers,
Starting point is 01:05:09 LeBron will face a familiar foe in the Warriors tonight, and Steve Kerr was asked about a potential Lakers' warriors' rivalry. Sleepy Floyd get his 29 against the Lakers. I mean, that would probably be in one quarter, yeah. That would probably be the biggest moment. I'm sure the Lakers never really looked at it as a rivalry all those years when they were dominating. But this will be fun, you know, same division.
Starting point is 01:05:34 and obviously, you know, both teams have a lot of talent and atmosphere is going to be great, even in the preseason. Oh, God, yeah, be sold out tonight. It will be, and the Lakers are interesting because of LeBron and Lonzo and Rondo and the Warriors are great, but a rivalry has to have a little bit of spice to it. No, you just watch there, 50-win Lakers. I'll make a prediction right now.
Starting point is 01:06:03 Are we taping this segment? Yes, we are always live. Okay, I'm going to make a prediction right now. Okay, I'm going to put it down a piece of paper. Warriors win 57. Mm-hmm. Warriors win 56. Lakers win 50.
Starting point is 01:06:26 Okay. That's a rivalry. People listen to me think Warriors 63, Lakers 40. Golden State, back-to-back championships. resting starters, they don't give a rip about this regular season at all. Really, it's not fun, but they shouldn't because they're interested in winning a championship. Of course. There's a formula to that.
Starting point is 01:06:47 Like Greg Popovic used to get killed for that. And look how many championships he has. There is a formula to this. It's a very long season. They're going to rest Kevin Durant. These games are always going to be interesting. But as to go to a rivalry, the Lakers actually have to beat them. They're going to tonight.
Starting point is 01:07:03 Precision. They won't mean anything. Joey Taylor with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Heard Lye News. No, I mean, listen, there is a formula for this. Golden State last year got beat by 40 in the regular season, 30 multiple times, 20-a-half-t dozen times.
Starting point is 01:07:19 In the NBA, it's different. Like I told you yesterday, in basketball, if you go to the YMCA and I got the best players, I can size you up and be like, oh, no, we're going to, we'll win this game based on when we feel like winning it. You can't play hard an entire 82 game season. It's not like baseball. Baseball, 60% into the game, you're starting pitcher didn't go sits on the sideline. Tom Brady in the middle of the third quarter doesn't decide, okay, can't play anymore, his arm's sore. Kobe Bryant's not like in his prime.
Starting point is 01:07:45 Oh, third quarter, sit down, his arm is sore. Baseball's, you know, hard to predict. Basketball is really easy to predict. I got the better five I win, so you're constantly psychologically trying to deal with that and motivate yourself when you clearly have better players over a five-month stretch. All right, here we do it. I'm the stockbroker. Buy, sell, and hold.
Starting point is 01:08:04 Here we go. Time to buy, sell, or hole. I'd buy that for a dollar. Colin will decide if he'll buy it. Sell. Watch and sell. Or hold. By the way, the Warriors, I just looked it up, won 58 last year.
Starting point is 01:08:19 I think they'll win two less this year. They're going to rest Curry, they'll rest Durant, and they'll rest Claymore. And they could win 75 if they wanted to. Of course. Buy seller hole, Patrick Mahomes will account for more yards than Tom Brady on Sunday. Well, let's just think about this. Who's got two deep threats? Patrick Mahomes has Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins.
Starting point is 01:08:43 Travis Kelsey is every bit as vertical as Gronk is. And I also think if you watch New England, something is becoming very clear. They're going to be more run heavy this year. I think that in previous years, James White's a tremendous running back slash pass catcher, and Sony Michelle has been a very encouraging rookie running back. So I think John... Bye, bye, bye! Yeah, Patrick will account for more yards than Tom Brady on Sunday.
Starting point is 01:09:12 Doesn't mean they'll win, but if you look at that offense, it is a home run over the top. Go for it, Firework Show. New England's more efficient. I think they'll be more run heavy. So, yeah, bye. Also, Patriots, they'll give up yards. They just stop you're giving up points.
Starting point is 01:09:27 You can have the middle of the field. Yeah. By solar hole, Drew Brees will win another Super Bowl before Aaron Rogers. By the way, Green Bay is 30 to 1 to win the Super Bowl. That's 11th best in the NFL. Vegas is not impressed with Green Bay. They're not. Offensive line, advantage Saints.
Starting point is 01:09:44 Defensive line, slight advantage Saints. I think the underrated part of New Orleans, you know, we know they have Camara and now Ingram and Drew Brise. This is a really good offensive line. Two years ago, we knew the Cowboys had the best offensive line in football. I think you can make an argument right now that New Orleans has got first or second best offensive line in football. So, John, by, bye, bye, yes, I think the next two years, New Orleans and the Rams in the NFC look like the most Super Bowl capable teams.
Starting point is 01:10:18 If Philadelphia can get it together, that would be the third. Buy seller hold, your two Super Bowl teams, the Steelers and Falcons will miss the playoffs. Okay, the Steelers have made the playoffs four straight years. Now, the division is better. Cleveland's a real team. Cincinnati's a real team. Baltimore's, I think, as good as anybody in the AFC, including New England. But it should be noted that Levian Bell is going to play this year.
Starting point is 01:10:45 And he's probably going to be a Pittsburgh Steeler, which will give them, along with Kansas City, the deepest arsenal of weaponry offensively in the conference. Also, let me mention this about the Steelers. I don't love their defense, but they do one thing really well. They get to the quarterback. And if you can figure out that, if you can get the quarterback pass rush down, which New England doesn't have, and Pittsburgh does, generally you can solve the back end by and large. They still do a lot of things well. Big plays offensively. They get to the quarterback.
Starting point is 01:11:22 They run the football. Steelers, John, sell, sell, sell. We'll make the playoffs. Buy seller hold, Travis Kelsey is a better tight end than Rob Grunkowski. He has more receptions, more touchdowns, more receiving yards, and more targets than Gronk. Gronk is simply not as fast as he has been in previous years, so this is the easiest one so far. Bye, my, bye! Yeah, Travis Kelsey this morning is a better tight end than Rob Nkowski.
Starting point is 01:11:49 Absolutely today, that is true. By Seller Hold, the Packers will not make the playoffs. Okay, they're 0 and 2 on the road, but now it's scored by 22 points combined. They've got a coaching quarterback issue. And by the way, after week sevens by, have you looked at Green Bay's schedule at the Rams, at the Patriots, at Seattle, at Minnesota? They've still got to go to Chicago. They still have to go to Minnesota. Folks, this was the time to make hay for the Packers.
Starting point is 01:12:21 This was the time, the first six weeks. This is when you got to play Buffalo at home and Chicago at home and Minnesota and Kirk Cousin and that new coordinator at home. John? I don't think the Packers are a playoff team this year. I just don't think they are. They still can't run the ball.
Starting point is 01:12:37 Last one, buy seller hold. The Eagles will be the fourth Super Bowl champion in the last seven years to miss the playoffs. Okay, let's not live in the moment. 71% of Super Bowl winners. 71% make a lot. the playoffs the following year. Okay, Dallas, the Giants in Washington are really limited teams at quarterback.
Starting point is 01:13:03 Philadelphia is not. By the way, I still pick them to win the NFC East. I did before the season, and I'm considered to be a Philadelphia hater. I said they'd pull back, but they still have the best offensive defensive line combination, arguably in the entire national football league. So John, the Eagles will not miss the playoffs. Brian Cox in about 40 minutes, Joel Clatt is going to argue with me. Jim Harbaugh, if you hate Jim Harbaugh, this could be the week.
Starting point is 01:13:36 This could be the avalanche. Wisconsin and Michigan. This is it for Harbaugh. This is a huge weekend for him. That would Joel Clat coming up next. Car shopping's confusing. A lot of terms, dealer price, list price, invoice. Here's what's not.
Starting point is 01:13:52 Saving three grand off. MSRP, go to truecar.com. Newer used, doesn't matter. All right, where's Clatt? He is the voice of college football. Oh, God, this is so obnoxious. So obnoxious. Wearing a Baker-Mayfield jersey.
Starting point is 01:14:10 You're such an obnoxious. Yeah, buddy. How was last Sunday? What's up? A bunch of field goals. Hey, two wins. What? Two more wins than they had in 600 previous days.
Starting point is 01:14:23 Listen, you're just here. This is the first jersey I've ever put on that didn't have my name on the back. Because it's Mayfield. Yeah! Is this what Colin's going to get every time? Oh, God, Baker Mayfield. It was a field goal contest. Joy, Colin deserves it.
Starting point is 01:14:43 I don't disagree with you. Thank you. There we go. See? So, yeah, maybe every time he wins, I'm going to wear the jersey. Although, did you agree with me because I said that Baker should be starting from week one. Of course. Of course. And by the way, do you watch Sam Darnel
Starting point is 01:14:57 last week? Holy moly. Home run balls. Firework show. Boom. You see who he's throwing two? You try to make this about like I don't like Darnold? I love Darnold. He's throwing a Troll. I never said, here's the difference. You know what the difference is? What? I never said, Darnold's undraftable. I would, that's what you said about me. Undraft.
Starting point is 01:15:15 I'll take him off my board. Just grab his junk. He didn't grab his junk. He didn't have a cop video. If Darnold was grabbing his junk and out of a cop video, boom. out of here. Guess what Mayfield has? What? Cop video, junk, and two wins. Bang. Shut up. You're a jerk. I love it.
Starting point is 01:15:31 Okay, college football gets really good. Let's start with this. I'm going to say it again. I'm seen as a Notre Dame hater. Joel, I think they're getting into the playoffs. This is the best Notre Dame team I have seen since Lou Holtz's time. I'm serious. I'm absolutely
Starting point is 01:15:47 with you on this. The meat of their schedule is over. They have performed beautifully. And you've got to give Brian Kelly a lot of credit because I think it takes guts to take a quarterback that wins a job early and say, even though we haven't lost, I'm going to make a change because I think we can be better. And with Ian Book at quarterback, they are considerably better on the offensive side. You know what? You know what they are?
Starting point is 01:16:08 They're Alabama going from Jalen Hertz to Tua. Yeah, maybe not that. I mean, I'm not saying. But they are a completely different offensive dynamic. They throw the ball down the field significantly better. Therefore, when I prepare for him, I have to cheat a little bit. and their running games more effective. The running game, and Dexter Williams is back off of that suspension from early in the year.
Starting point is 01:16:28 I'm a big fan. Jerry Tilleri is terrific on the defensive side. That defense is real. And they're favored, going to be favored in the rest of their games. And I'll say this again as well. Notre Dame is going to have a considerably better resume than Clemson, even if both are undefeated. So if it comes down to the two of them, Notre Dame. I would pick Notre Dame all day long.
Starting point is 01:16:47 I think Notre Dame is headed straight for a playoff berth and deservedly so this year. They're a great football team. All you have to do is watch Notre Dame. First of all, this kid, I'm not going to talk about NFL. Ian Book's a real player. Yeah, you bet. Yeah, he's a real quarterback. Well, they didn't score over 24 points in the first three games.
Starting point is 01:17:05 He comes into the lineup. It's like, bang, bang, bang, here we go. Now they're an offensive team that you've got to deal with on that side. Never forget, the first two offensive linemen taken in last year's draft were Notre Dameers. Yep. They have got NFL Sunday players on their offense and defense, their defensive line through Michigan for the first half around the football field. Let's transition in Michigan.
Starting point is 01:17:25 You and I like Harbaugh. Yeah, I'm a Harbaugh supporter. Totally Harbaugh supporter. Next three, four weeks? The entire, listen, if Harbaugh is able to succeed in the next few weeks, he will put to bed all these hot take artists that like to call him a poor college football coach. Because he's not. He's terrific.
Starting point is 01:17:47 He's taking Michigan to another level. And right now, you better watch out because Michigan. is getting better in the areas where they needed to improve the most. O line, namely and quarterback. So since Notre Dame, Shea Patterson, has 10 touchdowns to interceptions. And their offensive line last year gave up 2.8 sacks per game. That was near last in the Big Ten. Now it's 1.3 sacks per game.
Starting point is 01:18:09 So they've cut that by over a half. I got to tell you, Michigan is in a spot, number one defense in the country, number one yards per play defense in the country, number one past defense in the country. Karan Higden's averaging about 120 yards per game on the ground. That's a real team that is better than Wisconsin. They're better than Michigan State, and they've got Penn State at home. No, no, no.
Starting point is 01:18:29 I like them this weekend to beat Wisconsin. I do, too. I also like them to beat Michigan State. Then they get a buy. A buy and then Penn State. Penn State's great at home. Penn State's not the same team. They're literally emotionally.
Starting point is 01:18:42 They're very young at spots. I think Michigan's going to win their next three big games. And I'm telling you, all these. as you call them hot take artists are going to be bowing in front of you and I when they see us. Hey, Harbaugh can't coach. Have you watched football in the last 12 years? He's a terrific coach.
Starting point is 01:19:04 Okay. You know, I don't even know why this is. I like Austin, Texas. I like Texas football. But then you call Michigan and Texas not football schools? Like a month ago? First of all, I said. I'm just asking.
Starting point is 01:19:18 No, no, no, no. I said when I think of Ann Arbor and Austin, I think, when I think of Austin, I think of music, food, South by Southwest, Michael Dell, Dell computers, and a great university. I mean, that's, let's be honest, that's a U problem. It's not a you problem. It's, I'm given a compliment to Texas because it's a broad, major, international, harvesting great students. It's got a medical center, a law school. When I think of Auburn, I think of football. Okay.
Starting point is 01:19:47 I think of LFSU. I think of football. When I think of Texas, 6th Street, music. So you're just saying it's bigger than just football? Texas, University of Texas is not defined by their football team. That city's not defined by it. And all these Texas Longhorn people, hook them horns, are killing me. And I'm like, it was a compliment.
Starting point is 01:20:08 But I will say this, it was fun watching them beat Oklahoma. Well, I tell you that, and that fan base, you got to understand now, that fan base has been desperate for a decade. To be back to this point where they're controlling their own fate in the Big 12, where they have a real head coach, where they have a real defense, where they have a real quarterback. This is exciting for Texas. And it's exciting for the Big 12 because Tom Herman is legit. I understand people gave him a lot of grief last year for losing his first four games at Texas to rank teams. He was six and oh at Houston against ranked teams.
Starting point is 01:20:40 And I was like, he's the giant slayer. And then it didn't happen early against Texas. And they lost those close games. Remember USC out here in the Coliseum? Remember Oklahoma State late, they lost to them. Well, those two NFL quarterbacks they lost to. They lost to Mayfield late. Yes, they lost three NFL quarterbacks, and they had a freshman quarterback.
Starting point is 01:20:56 Of course, they didn't win those games. And so now all of a sudden, what did you start to see? You know, they've won their last four games against ranked opponents. They've won three of them this season, which is the most wins against ranked opponents of anybody in the country outside of Notre Dame. So Notre Dame and Texas have three wins against ranked opponents right now. Texas is legitimate, and I'll just add this in there. There's four contenders in the Big 12. West Virginia, TCU, Oklahoma, and Texas.
Starting point is 01:21:21 Only one of those four teams has a win against any of the others, and it's Texas against two of them, TCU and Oklahoma, which means West Virginia goes to Texas on November 3rd. That's for the right to go to the Big 12 championship game. That team, it's going to take a major upset to keep Texas out of the Big 12 championship game. Wow. I like Texas. You have the Ohio State game, Minnesota.
Starting point is 01:21:43 That's the early game this weekend. Here's the four best teams I've seen. So doesn't the first playoff thing comes out in two weeks? Halloween. It's somewhere near Halloween this year. Have you ever been to my neighborhood Halloween? No. Two in the afternoon, they're pouring margaritas.
Starting point is 01:21:59 They've got like big gates. They keep us common folk out of your neighborhood. So the four best teams I've seen are, by the way, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Alabama. Georgia. Yeah. Okay, that's my four. That would be my four.
Starting point is 01:22:19 That's the way I've got them ranked right now. Clemson right outside of that. And then West Virginia right outside of that. Come on. All right. Give me your upset of the week. Don't you. Don't give me West Virginia.
Starting point is 01:22:30 Don't give me that baloney. They have a quarterback and a bunch of, come on. Upset of the week. It's really tough to go on the road twice in a row consecutive weeks. Washington's doing it this week, playing at Oregon against a really good quarterback, probably going to be the first quarterback taken. First player taken. off of a buy as well.
Starting point is 01:22:49 Washington had to play a one-score game against UCLA last week in front of nobody at the Rose Bowl. I like Oregon over Washington this week. Herbert is a real deal. As a starter, he's 11 and 3, and they average 28 points or more in every single one of his starts. So watch out if you're Washington, because Washington has not looked great this season.
Starting point is 01:23:12 They've looked, well, they're not great. They don't have Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State. Notre Dame. They don't have that kind of talent. They do on the back end on defense, but not on the offensive side. No, it's just a bunch. Their best offensive talent left tackles out for the year. And their running back is pretty good, but the quarterback is underperformed.
Starting point is 01:23:32 Show them your jersey again. Yeah. Look at this. Yeah, Baker Mayfield. Yeah. Congrats. You got me for the first time ever to heard. The Magic Man!
Starting point is 01:23:51 Oh, hour number three. This is the herd, wherever you may be, however you may be listening, live in Los Angeles. Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1. Joy Taylor is joining me. It's been a very rambunctious show. I now have a Baker-Mayfield jersey. It is hanging in my office. We should have got it before so Baker could sign it for you.
Starting point is 01:24:15 By the way, it's, listen, I like Sam Darnold's future better than Baker over 15 years. But Baker can play. Darnold can play. Josh Rosen can play. They've all looked like I told you they would look like. I said, Donald's going to be the young. He's going to be kind of choppy. He's the youngest.
Starting point is 01:24:32 27 college starts. Youngest by a year. But he's going to be some big homeworks with him. Last week, a big home run. Baker's too accurate to bust. And Josh Rosen will look the prettiest. That's exactly what they've all been. By the way, I told you Lamar Jackson, not ready to play.
Starting point is 01:24:50 He's not ready to play. So regardless, you and I can differ. on our opinions, but they can all play. And by the way, Darnold, Rosen, Josh Allen, and for that matter, Lamar, but Darnold, Rosen, Alan,
Starting point is 01:25:07 all available to the New York Giants. And they stink. By the way, that's why I supported Odell Beckham. Yes. So in 15 minutes, a guy that called him crap before the year, Brian Cox, multiple pro bowler, very tight into the NFL. We brought him on the show and he said,
Starting point is 01:25:24 Giants aren't going to be any good. Eli's not any good. He called it. He'll be joining us. I love that. In best for last, I'm going to show you three stats in the NFL so far this season. They're going to blow your mind.
Starting point is 01:25:36 But let's start. Des Bryant is making noise again. So let's, our number three. Let me start with that. So Jerry Jones came out this week, owner of the Dallas Cowboys, biggest brand in the NFL, biggest brand in the world in professional football.
Starting point is 01:25:52 and he said, you know, the thing in Dallas is, we haven't had a true number one receiver for years. My definition, you know, like Julio Jones, DeAndre Hopkins, and not a lot of guys around the NFL. We haven't had a guy like that for several years. Well, of course, Des Bryant, who has no life and sits on Twitter all night, fired back several times. At first he showed a little class, and then he, you know,
Starting point is 01:26:13 he did what Des does. He freaks out. He gets emotional, and he goes on Twitter and says things that, you know, I'm the man, pay homage to the man. Here's the interesting thing about Des Bryant. Does Des Bryant realize if he was on like 30 other NFL teams, he'd be completely irrelevant. He would be. He would be completely irrelevant.
Starting point is 01:26:35 The Dallas Cowboys made Des Bryant. You put him on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Who cares? We never talk about Mike Evans. Mike Evans today is better than Des Bryant was at his peak. We never talk about Mike Evans. Only people talk about Mike Evans or fantasy football fans. I mean, here's what's, I mean, so I thought to myself this morning.
Starting point is 01:26:56 Let's take Des's best years. He had three years where he was a legitimate number one playmaker. Three years, 2012, 2013, 2014. So that was at his best. So if you take the greatest seven or eight wide receivers I've ever seen play, Jerry Rice, T.O., Randy Moss, Chris Carter, Calvin Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Marvin Harrison. I went and looked at all of them.
Starting point is 01:27:20 On average, Jerry Rice, 12 great years. Maybe not his rookie year, maybe not his last year. Twelve great years. Chris Carter, Randy Moss, closer to eight, Marvin Harrison closer to eight, Calvin Johnson, closer to nine. Calvin could have played three more years. The average for great, for great receivers, was nine years. Des Bryant was great for three.
Starting point is 01:27:44 if Des Bryant was never a Dallas Cowboy, he'd be Mike Evans. And Mike Evans already has a better career and appears to have another four or five years of pro-bow level play. In fact, let me play a blind, we do blind resume once in a while for our radio audience.
Starting point is 01:28:05 I'll put Des Bryant, player one, player two. These are the blind comparable stats. And it looks like pretty much the same guy. 530 catches, 7,8,000 yards, 3,000-yard seasons. And do you know who the players are? Des Bryant is one of the players.
Starting point is 01:28:23 Okay, he's one of the players. The other player is Mike Wallace. Did you even know he was on the Eagles? It's his fifth team. He's hurt again. On the Eagles, he's had three targets and officially no catches. Desbrite should count his lucky stars. He is the most over-discussed, over-hyped,
Starting point is 01:28:44 overtweeted, self-deluded player in the NFL over the last decade. I mean, even among Bryant's, there's Kobe Bryant, the Cubs Chris Bryant, the former football coach Bear Bryant, and Bryant Gumbull. They're more interesting and productive than Des Bryant. So officially on this show, this is the last time I'm ever talking about Des Bryant, I think, unless he becomes a patriot. Let me shift gears to this. From somebody who is overrated to somebody, I think, historically, that's actually kind of underrated, LeBron James.
Starting point is 01:29:27 I have never talked about the NBA in early October in my life. Not one time.
Starting point is 01:29:50 LeBron James is going to the number one brand in the NBA, the Los Angeles Lakers. And yesterday, tonight they're playing the Golden State Warriors in Vegas. It's an exhibition game. I'll watch 30, 40, well, okay, I'll watch the whole thing. And I would never do that before. There's a moment in this article by Bleacher Report, though. For all of you doubters on LeBron and the Lakers, there is a line in this story that says, with a supporting cast of Brandon Ingram,
Starting point is 01:30:15 Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma, Rajon Rondo, Josh Hartland-Stevenson, the Lakers aren't that much better than the Cavs squad. Time out. Apparently this person's television doesn't work because he didn't watch the Cavs. I'm going to line up to you how much better the Lakers are than last year's Cavs team with LeBron that got to the finals.
Starting point is 01:30:38 I'm going to line him up. The best player for Cleveland, now that LeBron's gone, is Kevin Love. who now is not only on the back nine of his career, Kevin Love is an 18-point-a-game defensive liability. The Lakers best player is Brandon Ingram, who's a significantly better defender, averaged 16.5 in a second year,
Starting point is 01:31:01 and projects, if you look at his averages, to be a 22-point-of-game guy this year with LeBron. LeBron's already animated. Yeah, I'm going to get him the ball. The second best player for the Cavs no longer fits in the NBA Tristan Thompson. He can't shoot. Sort of an issue in 2018. The Lakers' second best player is Kyle Kuzma, who has a rookie average 16 a game. His numbers should go up, you know, because he'll be better. The third best cavalier is George Hill. 11 points, three assists career average. All say the Lakers'
Starting point is 01:31:36 third best is Rondo, 11 points, 8.5 assists, you know, passing's big for guards and a much better defender. The fourth best Cav is J.R. Smith, I think, who's cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs, but I do like him. He is fun and can shoot, but he may be the worst defensive player in the league. The fourth best player for the Lakers is KCP,
Starting point is 01:31:56 a two guard, who's younger, longer, more athletic, hell of a defender, and right now every bit the shooter. All the Cav players are older and getting worse. All the Laker players are younger and getting better. I did not mention Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart.
Starting point is 01:32:14 who Laker coaches, Doug Gottlieb told us yesterday, love both and project both as starters. Folks, if you think this team's going to struggle to get to 40 wins, you're out of your gourd. Last four years without LeBron, they were four and 23 in the weaker east. The Lakers last year without LeBron and a bunch of babies, a bunch of kids, won 35 games in the significantly tougher Western Conference. This Laker roster is younger, more athletic, quicker, longer, significantly better defensively. Lakers going to be just fine. Brian Cox is around the corner. He called it.
Starting point is 01:33:00 Lakers, for the record, do play tonight preseason against Golden State ramping up. Their season starts next Thursday, I think. NBA season starts next Tuesday in earnest. Lakers start on Thursday, so I'm excited for it. And we've got a lot of show left. Brian Cox is joining us right around the corner. The most outspoken, honest guy, well-connected that we have on this show regularly. One more herd?
Starting point is 01:33:24 The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the IHeart radio app. Search Herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like. You know, when I hear people say, well, you can't look at these records in the NFL because they're making life easier for quarterbacks. Folks, this is the way the world works. When I first started in this business 30 years ago, we didn't have the internet. I mean, seriously, I had to read newspapers, the AP wire. I can do my prep for this show in half the time I used to.
Starting point is 01:33:52 Everything's on my phone. I can have a staff. We can find quotes, find video, everything in life's easier. That's why they have Silicon Valley. That's why we have technology to make your life easier. In the NBA, it's easier to score. You can't hand check people. In hockey, it's easier to score.
Starting point is 01:34:09 You can't grab people. That's what sports should be. sports should be not for the mediocre player. All sports should be designed to elevate the best players. So they're free to score goals. That's the way sport should be. You don't build it for the middle class athlete. You build it for the stars and allow them to be stars.
Starting point is 01:34:32 You don't want people clutching and grabbing Kobe Bryant in his prime. That's why it's interesting. The New York Giants passed on draft on a quarterback for Eli-L Manning. knowing full well that if you look at the rules in the NFL, like it's all quarterback. So Sam Darnold, he can win. Now, Baker Mayfield can win now. Josh Rosen this weekend. Can win now.
Starting point is 01:34:53 Josh Allen. They passed on all of them. That's why he said when Odell Beckham came out and said what he said, it's the elephant in the room. Eli Manning's an iPhone 6. It's got name value. You can still make calls on it. But when you go to the Apple store and you compare it to the other iPhones, it looks outdated. And to me, all O'Dell Beckham did is mention the elephant in the room.
Starting point is 01:35:14 Yeah, he didn't say that Eli was terrible, but he talked about what everybody in the world's afraid in New York to talk about. The media won't talk about it. The owner won't talk about it. The GM won't talk about it. It's going to be rough sledding here, man, because Donald's going to win a lot of game for the Jets. And Baker's going to win games for Cleveland. And Josh Rosen is going to win a lot of games for Arizona. And with that, we bring in Brian Cox, who not only played for a Super Bowl champ, multiple pro bowl.
Starting point is 01:35:38 He coached on five different teams, including, by the way, it should be noted, the Jets and the Browns. So you didn't like the whole O'Dell back. You're old school. You don't like players yapping. Well, the biggest thing is, one, there should have been something said to O'Dell in training camp about we don't do interviews without the permission of the PR department here. And I fought, in my opinion, Pat Sherman, because it falls into the leadership or lack there of it.
Starting point is 01:36:08 about when he got the job. So you didn't buy into Pat Sherman. No. All you have to do is look at his record. You know, when you look at his win-loss record, and then you look at the fact that he is not a confrontational coach. When you have guys that speak out, you need to be able to go to them. And if there's a confrontation that needs to take place, you need to confront it.
Starting point is 01:36:32 Okay, you were on five staffs. Who is a confrontational coach you liked? I like Mangini. He's confrontational. Yeah, he'll go and he'll bring it up and he'll say, hey, we got to talk about this. Dan Quinn is a guy that will bring it up. Atlanta. He's not always, it's like kind of sneaky.
Starting point is 01:36:49 He kind of expects for the coaches. Was Belichick confrontational? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Oh, yeah. But Pat Shermer to you is non-confrontational. So therefore, when Odell Beckham says that, nobody confronts him on it? Well, the biggest thing is not only do they not confront it on him or confront him about it, When Pat Sherman was at the press conference, he said, go ask OBJ about it.
Starting point is 01:37:12 Talk to Odell. You're the head coach. We're talking to you about it. You have to make the decision on this. There's nothing to go talk to him about. There should have been a fine or something in place to prevent Odell from having that interview. By the way, you also said you thought there could be a Philadelphia. You've been really good on the NFC East.
Starting point is 01:37:29 You also said, watch out for Philadelphia. Parades. Everybody's writing a book. It looks like a little bit of a Super Bowl hangover. It's a hangover. And, you know, the biggest thing is John D. Filippo not being there, their offense doesn't look the same. It doesn't look the same. It doesn't look the same.
Starting point is 01:37:44 Frank Reich is now the coach of the Colts. D. Philippo is where? Minnesota. Minnesota. Coordinator. So they lost their two offensive guys, both left. Right. And when you look at their offense now, they brought Mike Groh in from Chicago from a staff who had gotten fired, and they passed over Duce Staley and made him the past game or the run game coordinator, made out go to coordinator.
Starting point is 01:38:05 To me, it would have been the simplest thing to do what Kansas City has done with Eric B. enemy and make Deuce Staley the coordinator because he's been there. He's been in the system. And then Doug Peterson would help him because he works with the quarterback anyway. That would have been the simple solution to me. When you watch him, Carson Wentz isn't playing poorly. It's not that. They're just not the same offense.
Starting point is 01:38:26 But the receivers are not catching the ball. He's not getting protected as well. He's getting hit a lot more. They don't look the same. They don't look like they play with the urgency. They don't look like they play with the zip and the zeal that they played with last year. It looks like a different ball club. By the way, let's go to the stay in the NFC East with the Dallas Cowboys.
Starting point is 01:38:43 Jason Garrett got a lot of heat. But you are going to defend him. I defend him. Here's my point. Okay, two weeks prior, Indianapolis coach went for it on fourth down. Didn't get it. Everybody crucified Frank Wright. You fast forward to the game.
Starting point is 01:39:02 Dallas on 31, they get a ball to Ezekiel. He gets stopped. So why would I go for it on fourth down? On the 40-yard line of my opponent that if I don't get it, they're going to get 30 yards and get a first down. I'm going to play it by the book. I'm going to kick it pin the offense down, which Houston caught the ball on the 10-yard line.
Starting point is 01:39:21 Hopkins just made a phenomenal catch to move them in the field-go-range. So to me, it was the right play. You don't take a chance at that point unless you're trying to lose the game. You know what's funny about this? So Garrett's getting crushed for not going forward, Brian. Sean McVeigh went for it, but... There's an asterisk. He wasn't going to go for it.
Starting point is 01:39:41 Exactly. Sent the punt team in. And nobody's crucified Pete Carroll for calling the time out. So McVeigh's natural instinct, the gunslinger, with Todd Gurley, with a great young quarterback. Golf was to punt. With two great possession receivers was to punt. Right. That most coaches go by the book, and the book is like, don't.
Starting point is 01:40:04 If you don't get it, two first downs and Houston walks out with a win. And I'm not going to get at Frank Wright, but I'm going to say this. Frank Wright stood up there and defended, we're not playing the tie. Well, what are you planning to do? Lose? Because oftentimes when you screw up as a head coach and you make a mistake and it doesn't work out, you screwed your team. Nobody crucified him, but they crucified Gary for doing the right thing. And it ended in a bad result.
Starting point is 01:40:34 what you're doing that situation. You don't get a game away at that time. Yeah, fans tend to look at the result, but there's generally a book on how to do things and how not to do things. Fantasy football is screwing real football up because people that play fantasy football, they're invested now. And when they lose a game, all they know is I lost money, you cost me a championship. But there are real consequences and people's lives and jobs are at jeopardy when you get people to go on and say, Jason Garrett ought to be fired. Now, no, man, come on now. You're playing with that man's livelihood.
Starting point is 01:41:09 Because at the end of the day, he did the right thing. You've coached with the Jets, Browns, Dolphins, Bucks, and Falcons. If you coached the Steelers today, what would you suggest to the GM and the owner to do with Lavin Bell? I would not allow him back. Period. You can't play for us anymore. Because here's the idiotic thing.
Starting point is 01:41:29 You're coming back week seven because you say I'm tallying up or trying to figure out how many hits my body can take. Okay. When has $14 million been a bad thing for a football player to play? And regardless of how many hits you take or whatever, I can't depend on you as a teammate or as ownership right now, if I'm the stiller saying,
Starting point is 01:41:53 how do we know you're going to get here and not get a couple of paychecks and then quit again? James Conner's been playing well enough to Ben Rothersberger came out of the day and say he should get the carries anyway. To me, I'm moving on from Lavian Bell from this point forward. I'm trying to get ready with James Connor because next year he's going to be my feature back anyway. I'm going to get him the experience. And then if I'm another team that's contemplating signing Lavian Bell,
Starting point is 01:42:18 how can I, in good conscience, give him the kind of money that he's looking for when he's not dependable? You can't count on him because if he's doing it to the Steelers, when he gets paid, what is he going to do to your organization? He might never show up. But you do it for Todd Gurley, though, because... Because Todd Gurley showed up. Todd Gurley went to work. He didn't negotiate in the media.
Starting point is 01:42:42 He went out there and did it. You can't argue his numbers. Never been suspended. You can't argue his numbers, and you can't argue the type leader he is, the person he is. You can't say the same for Labor and Bell. He's been late.
Starting point is 01:42:54 His teammates have come out against him now. He's down there doing rap concerts and promoting and on all these tours. and why we're up here putting in work. As a teammate of his, if it were me, I would be so uncomfortable. I'm not in a position that I would say that I would wholeheartedly welcome him back
Starting point is 01:43:12 without, he would have to do some explaining. He would have to really show me. It's like a relationship, okay? If you heard a woman and you go back to that woman, it ain't never the same because she'd never trust you to say. I don't trust him. So I'm like a woman in this situation. I could never trust him again.
Starting point is 01:43:29 That's interesting. How about the Chiefs? The Chiefs. Now, I would think, because you've been very brutally honest, so you probably think all of us are going too crazy on the Chiefs. No, no, I'm absolutely not. But what I am willing to point out is two years ago, when you watched the Chiefs, everybody said,
Starting point is 01:43:51 Peterson, Doug Peterson's doing a great job. Andy Reed, there's Doug Peterson offense. Last year was Matt Nagy, got him a job. You know, and now Eric B. Enemy is doing the job, and you don't hear anything about Eric B. Enemy as offense coordinator. You hear Andy Reed's offense now. They're not giving that man credit. That man has been a running back coach there.
Starting point is 01:44:09 He's been in a position where Andy Reed is bringing him along. He doesn't have the experience working with quarterbacks. Andy Reid is taking a more hands-on approach with the quarterback position. But you've got to start giving Eric B. Enemy some credit because this offense is even better than it was under the prior two offense coordinator. Let me tell you something. Mahomes is really good. He's the real deal.
Starting point is 01:44:30 So it's not like a DAC situation where he's going to play out of his mind the first year and then he's going to back up. He's Brett Fawf kind of guy. He's a gunslinger mentality, the way he can run the ball. You played, you were a dominant linebacker, a multiple pro bowl or a Super Bowl chant with a Patriots and a linebacker, and you were a vocal guy. You talked, you led. You were a Sean Lee.
Starting point is 01:44:52 You were direct in traffic. Who was the best, not even the best quarterback. Who is the best young quarterback your face where you knew instantly, okay, there's a lot of chatter, he's for real. Who was the star you saw really early? Because a lot of people are telling me all these young guys are great. Mahomes looks different to me. And I like Jared Goff, but he didn't look like Mahomes.
Starting point is 01:45:14 Probably the best young guy I saw in my playing days would have to be Peyton Manning. You knew it right away how good he would be. Why? Even though that record. You would play in the game. in the game and you would hear him make all these calls. So the game to him was more mental than physical.
Starting point is 01:45:32 And you knew that you could now smart him from day one. Day one. He had that it factor. Now, he couldn't throw the ball. If you got him outside, you could say, oh, I got him. We playing cover two. Ball and not going across the middle of the day. But if he got you in that dome, he could make all the throws and you were in trouble.
Starting point is 01:45:47 And you could tell it instantly. You could tell it instantly. Even though they were, you know, bad early. They were bad for a couple years. You could tell it with him because he ran and he orchestrated that offense. from day one. Man, if Brian Cox, you don't mess around with Brian. If you mispractice, Brian doesn't like you?
Starting point is 01:46:01 No. If you talk, Brian doesn't like you? You'd be tough coach. Hey, at some point, players play, coach is coach. So you can't sit up here. The other thing about, you go back to the OBJ thing,
Starting point is 01:46:14 when you look at that interview, how many times do he say I in that interview? I. I don't want to be, I don't want to be held back anymore. I want to be great. I want to be, the team or is it about what you want?
Starting point is 01:46:27 And like the interesting thing to me was last week playing against my son team, Carolina so I never bring up Carolina. He was happy that they lost because he got his numbers. And he was saying this was the most competitive, this was the best we've been this year. It was all about
Starting point is 01:46:43 him getting his numbers. It wasn't about the team winning the game. That's the sad state to me. You see a very selfish player. I see a very selfish player. Sometimes you get that wolf. and that sheep's clothing need coming. I'm a competitor.
Starting point is 01:46:58 I'm competing for the team. I want to do this. But really, when it comes down to it, he wants the numbers so he can say, look at how great I am. Good seeing you. Nice seeing you. Brian Cox, Joy Taylor with the news.
Starting point is 01:47:09 No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. So, speaking of team player, this conversation keeps coming up. The struggle of being LeBron's teammates. The new face of the calves. Kevin Love had this to say to Brian Winhorn.
Starting point is 01:47:25 about playing with LeBron. You have to follow. You have to learn a lot about that. You're not the top guy. I just tried to continue to be myself and not fake it. I said how I felt. Whether we disagree or agreed, my voice was heard. You have to be resilient at a lot of hard nights.
Starting point is 01:47:40 There were dark times, but I always believed to keep fighting. I'm not mocking him. He should be following LeBron. That's exactly what he should. I mean, no, there's nothing to mock here, but it is a tad bit dramatic. Yes, it's dramatic. I mean. I'm not, I mean, he had some, I think some mental anguish last year, which he talked about in length.
Starting point is 01:48:01 Yes. But of course, listen, it's hard to play. It's hard to coach superstars. Ask Phil Jackson about Kobe. It's hard to coach superstars. LeBron's a lot hard to coach. Greatness requires just a little bit more. Of course.
Starting point is 01:48:15 That's why it's great. Otherwise, everyone would be great. And they would just give out championship trophies to everybody. And everyone would get a nice little ribbon and pat on the back in orange slices. But that's not how it works. Tim Duncan. He's very rare. Incredibly low maintenance
Starting point is 01:48:28 NBA superstar. Tim Duncan is a I'll take less money. Tim Duncan's a rarity in the NBA. He was incredibly low maintenance and a star. He didn't want endorsements. He didn't want a shoe deal.
Starting point is 01:48:39 He didn't want attention. He didn't want media. A lot of NBA stars are they want a little love. I just, a little love. Like, you got to ring. You got to play alongside LeBron James and compete for championships.
Starting point is 01:48:53 What more are you asking for? I don't understand. What do we hear for? Just the patient trophies? I don't get it. Rings. Is that? I mean, that's what I thought they're playing for.
Starting point is 01:49:02 But I don't know. Just to me, I get it. It is probably hard to play alongside someone who, like LeBron James, who gets all the attention. And there's lots of drama and there's lots of media. And there's lots of critique. And every single game matters. Every single game gets attention while other teams don't. That's what it is, man.
Starting point is 01:49:20 Listen, if you look at the NBA ratings, nobody watches the NBA until, late May and June. Seriously. I know the media likes to say oh, the NFL's dying. The NFL ratings, they get 17 million people watching regular season games.
Starting point is 01:49:36 But we pay attention to LeBron teams, though. And we like we will this year. So when you play with LeBron, you get a better shoe deal, you get talked about, you get more Instagram followers, you get more money, you get more, you just got to live with, it is a lot more attention and he's a little higher maintenance. Nothing in life comes without a price.
Starting point is 01:49:52 Like, it's the way it works. It could be worse. You'll find out this year. Last year, Gronk began following the TV12 method and working with he who should not be names, Alex Guerrero.
Starting point is 01:50:04 So now after playing 14 of 16 games last season, all five of his games this year, Gronk is still a devoted follower of Brady's methods. He told Business Insider, I'm not super, super crazy, but I'm pretty crazy about his diet. I think it keeps me playing football and has extended my career.
Starting point is 01:50:20 I've had plenty of crazy meals I thought I'd never have. Never, I never thought I would enjoy. For example, his avocado ice cream, it's delicious. I have to try it. Now that Gronk has endorsed it, I actually have to try this avocado ice cream. I can't eat ice cream anymore. With avocado ice cream.
Starting point is 01:50:38 I can't. I'm lactose. I'm not lactose intolerant. I'm very close to it. It's avocado ice cream. Yeah, but it's still ice cream. There's still, there's no cream. No, that's the point.
Starting point is 01:50:49 It's avocado only? That's gross. I mean, I don't know if it's avocado flavor. but that's the point is that it's not dairy. You know they have vegan ice cream. Yeah, I know. My wife, that's what my wife is. You don't like the vegan?
Starting point is 01:51:02 You've never tried it? Yeah, it's not my favorite. I don't know, I don't, listen, it's, I like the cream part. The cream is dairy. You like the dairy part? So, Avicada ice cream. I mean, don't they have, like, a pill you can take so you can eat it? I don't know how they make that about an ice cream.
Starting point is 01:51:18 But the TV12 method is zero gluten and refined carbs, like bread, snack, food, cereals, pastas. I can't have bread? Nope. That's stupid. Trans and saturated fats. Dairy. I can't have a piece of bread all season?
Starting point is 01:51:33 Nope. Excessive salt. Nightshade vegetables such as tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes, and bell peppers. Excessive caffeine and alcohol. Nightshade. What, the vegetable? My carrot didn't get a good night's sleep?
Starting point is 01:51:45 I don't know. Tomatoes is something to do with like inflate inflammation or something. What is night shade vegetables mean? Tomatoes, eggplants, potatoes, and bell peppers. And they grow in the shade. My Brussels sprout got too many SUV or what do you call those rays? UV, UV rays. Not SUV rays.
Starting point is 01:52:03 UV rays. Taking this pollution things here. Process foods and added sugars and several fruits. Like he doesn't eat strawberries. I would tell Tom Brady to do his face. I don't know what he eats. How do you not eat bread? I could live without bread.
Starting point is 01:52:17 Bread kind of pops me up a little bit. I could do without bread. I like bread, but I could do without it. But the rest of this stuff? I can't make it another two hours without bread. Like the cheese and alcohol? No, I can get, well, yeah. Okay, here's the avocado ice cream ingredients.
Starting point is 01:52:33 Oh, let me hear. Okay. One ripe avocado, of course. A half a cup of raw cashews, coconut cream, dates, cocoa powder, and water. That's not ice cream. Delicious.
Starting point is 01:52:50 No, that's just some... That's a dip. That's literally good to give you that. You dip a chip in. Finally, Sunday Chiefs Patriots matchup could go down as one of the most important games in the AFC, at least, of the season. But you're not going to get Bell Belichick to admit that. He was asked about the importance of the game, and he gave us a typical grumpy bill moments. Coach, you feel like you're playing for the top seed in the AFC with this game that the stakes are that big?
Starting point is 01:53:17 They're like playing Kansas City. Does it seem like a higher stakes game than that? It's a little for playing Kansas City. Oh, boy, that's cool. Yesterday's practice, were you able to jump straight in the game plan, or was maybe a focus more internal in terms of the time of the field yesterday? Yeah. Or we're working on Kansas City.
Starting point is 01:53:36 Oh, boy, he's in a festive mood. He's just a... I got to tell you something. I love Tom Brady, and I totally get my wife's vegan, so I get a restrictive diet. If I told you there were five things you could... What are the three things you'll never give up? One of mine's coffee. one of mine is really good grain bread
Starting point is 01:53:56 That's tough I wouldn't give up wine cheese And yeah it would be tough for me to give up coffee too I don't drink I don't really drink coffee on the weekends But during the week I got to have coffee
Starting point is 01:54:11 So coffee is important Bread though I could live without I don't know how you do it What's the third thing? I would never give up coffee Good grain bread I love good grain bread vodka's way up there.
Starting point is 01:54:27 I would say I would never give up dark chocolate. Yeah, I could give up dark chocolate. I have... I gotta be honest with you. It'd be very hard for me to give up chicken or fish.
Starting point is 01:54:40 I could also probably give up chicken or fish. If I could only eat red meat, I could probably do that too. My wife gave up chicken and fish. And I tell her I said, honey, if the chickens were big enough, they'd eat us. Don't lose any sleep over this. Well, chicken would be kind of, difficult to. You think of a chicken was six
Starting point is 01:54:56 feet tall like me, and I was the size of a chicken. You don't think the chicken would say, ooh, I'm going to have a Colin Cowherd sandwich. You never seen the video of the giant chickens? Do you think we had a planet of six foot chickens, they would literally sit around and go, you know, we shouldn't eat people anymore.
Starting point is 01:55:14 Morally, I don't think morally as a chicken, I feel good about eating John Goulet. They would eat, they would never for a second worry about eating us, so I'm going to eat them. I don't know. I'm not giving up any of these things, but definitely I eat some
Starting point is 01:55:30 form of cheese almost every day and have coffee almost every day. So those two things I could not do. Join Taylor with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The herd lie news. I think it's amazing how thoughtful we are as human beings. That literally as human
Starting point is 01:55:46 beings, we're like, I feel guilty eating fish. Let's not get crazy about the amount of thoughtful human beings. We are a very thoughtful, group of people. We also could be quite unthoughtful. You know.
Starting point is 01:56:00 This is like the whole world is heating up from all the pollution that we pump out in the world every single day. Can't bother to lose a couple pennies to save the planet. But we're very thoughtful about the chickens.
Starting point is 01:56:09 Coming up next, a couple of things are happening this year. Be very careful. Before you lay down money on certain things in the NFL, be very careful. Three incredible numbers coming up in Best for Last.
Starting point is 01:56:21 Sleep in a Casper. if you will pick that mattress, you will be so satisfied. Casper.com, the code is heard, H-E-Rty that gets you $50 off select mattresses. Terms and conditions apply. Casper.com code heard. Tomorrow, Carson Wentz and the Eagles battles, Sequin Barkley and the Giants and a fierce divisional showdown. It all starts at 730 Eastern on Fox NFL Network and streaming on Prime Video.
Starting point is 01:56:46 This is a, just underscore how important this game is, Joy. the Eagles are currently two and three, and it's early. I still think the Eagles make the playoffs, but I said this about Green Bay earlier. Green Bay, the easy part of Green Bay schedule is over. Bears at home, Vikings at home, bills at home, and they didn't take advantage of it. I mean, they tied Minnesota.
Starting point is 01:57:09 Aaron Rogers got hurt against Chicago. Now it gets tough for the Packers. The Philadelphia Eagles remaining schedule, starting this Thursday, at the Giants, Carolina Panthers, Jaguars, and then in two weeks at the Saints. They still have to go at the Rams, at the Cowboys,
Starting point is 01:57:29 they have at the Saints. This schedule for Philadelphia, not easy. So this is, Giants are not a playoff team. Borrow up to $40,000 to pay off your high interest debt or credit cards. Go to Lendingclub.com slash sports. Lendingclub.com slash sports. All right, it's time for best for last. After almost three hours, Colin apparently has
Starting point is 01:57:50 hasn't gotten to the point yet. Quit holding out on us, cowherd. It's the best for last. So we predicted before the season started. We said, listen, bet the overs on the NFL. There's been multiple rule changes. The only quarterback in the first round, the last couple of years to be a bust,
Starting point is 01:58:10 of the 13 first round quarterbacks, the only bust is Paxton Lynch. It used to be a 50-50 proposition if you get a first round quarterback. It was a coin flip. Bus can play. They can all play. that's not because they're all great, it's because the world's changed. The rules are all pro
Starting point is 01:58:24 offense. Just to give you a thought of that, listen to these three stats, the most, three most amazing stats. So last year, Drew Breeze set the record for the highest single season completion percentage. It was 72. Through five weeks, he's at 78%. He is shattering his own record. He's 39 towards 40 in January. So just to give you some sense of how the league, and I am completely for this, is helping the quarterbacks. Drew Breeze set an all-time record last year and will shatter it this year. Here's another amazing stat. Last year, Andrew Luck missed the season.
Starting point is 01:59:05 He is coming back this year. He's completed 163 passes and thrown it 245 times. That is the most attempts and completions in NFL history of any quarterback through five weeks. Now, just think about that. Now, you know I'm an Andrew Luck fan. but never a quarterback through five weeks that's attempted and completed that many passes. For the record, all the Andrew Luck critics get really quiet when these sort of numbers come out. The guy is proving once again if you give him, he doesn't even have a running game.
Starting point is 01:59:38 He doesn't really have anything other than T.Y. Hilton. But their offensive line is a little better. The rules help him a little, and he's setting records. But here's the stat to keep your eye on. I like Kansas City, but I don't think they're playing in January. They're off to a 5-0 start. Here's a mind-boggling number. The Chiefs have allowed 462 yards per game.
Starting point is 02:00:02 They have the worst total defense of any team through five weeks in NFL history. Since the merger, teams that have the worst defense have missed the playoffs every single year. And the only exception was the Green Bay Packers in 2011. and they lost in the divisional round. So that's why I keep telling everybody. Everybody is bailing on the Steelers. The Steelers have a great pass rush. If you can rush the passer,
Starting point is 02:00:36 you can figure out the back end of your defense. But I don't think that the Chiefs are going to miss the playoffs this year. I don't think November and December are going to look this good. I don't think you can give up 500. yards a game. And by the way, again, they got it, look at their schedule so far. They got Jacksonville at home. Okay, now the schedule gets tough.
Starting point is 02:01:01 It's New England on the road. It's going to be colder. It's going to be wetter. Again, I've said this with both Jared Goff and Mahomes. I want to see you on the road. I want to see you in bad weather. I think Kansas City, I love Annie Reid. And I think their skill people are great, but slow down.
Starting point is 02:01:20 This team gives up massive, massive yards. Massive. So Joel Klatte showed up earlier today wearing a Baker Mayfield. Baker Mayfield jersey. It was just kind of a jerk. In case you missed that, that was like an hour and a half ago. There's Joel Klatte. He showed up talking about Baker Mayfield.
Starting point is 02:01:41 Let's roll the tape on that. You're such an obnoxious. Yeah, buddy. How was last Sunday? What's up? A bunch of field goals. Hey, two wins. What?
Starting point is 02:01:53 Two more wins than they had in 600 previous days. Guess what Mayfield has? Cop video, junk, and two wins. Bang. All right. For the record, it is interesting. Cleveland is only a one-point dog at home this weekend. So Baker Mayfield, it's a pick-em game at home against the Chargers,
Starting point is 02:02:15 and Sam Darnold is a favorite at home. So it looks like, I mean, if my gut feeling, and now I like the Colts to win and I like the Chargers, but things are kind of going. Well, say one thing about all these rookie quarterbacks. They all look exactly like we thought they would look. Yeah. They did. I said, Baker's root?
Starting point is 02:02:37 Well, I mean. Who? I said Josh would be the prettiest. Donald would be the home run. Josh Rosen. Josh Rosen would have the prettiest ball. Alan is a little surprised. Okay.
Starting point is 02:02:48 He's better, but he did get shamed. shut out by Green Bay. So he looks, let's talk about the big three. The three that I said before the draft will come in and they can play immediately. I didn't think Josh Allen would be very good and I didn't think Lamar could. So let's just take the big three. I said, Donald was my favorite. Big thick kid, 15 years, won't get hurt. Big playmaker, but he's going to make mistakes. That's exactly what he's been. Big play. Last week he had three over the top throws, two to Robbie Anderson, one at Terrell prior, up the left sideline. I said Josh Rosen would have the prettiest ball. He would looked the prettiest.
Starting point is 02:03:21 He has looked absolutely, and they have a very conservative offensive coordinator. And I said, Baker Mayfield is going to be a lot of different stuff. I don't love his judgment. He had a four turnover game. Yeah. By the way, in that Oakland game, with time left, he threw a deep ball that he should have gone intermediate to an inside route and they had a chance to kick it and win the game. I don't love Baker's judgment all the time, but he's an incredibly accurate throw over the
Starting point is 02:03:44 football. He's been exactly what we thought. By the way, I said Baker would play this year. They would win six games. I don't think they win this weekend, although I think they're in the game. So everybody's looked the exact. And I said Lamar Jackson was not ready to play. He's not.
Starting point is 02:03:59 Start. And I said Josh Allen wasn't. And he's making some plays, but he did get shut out. I mean, it's hard to get shut out in the NFL. I don't know that I would have picked this game to wear the Baker Mayfield jersey in your defense. But a win is a win. It's a tremendous improvement from last year. Listen, the NFL has made it much easier for all these guys.
Starting point is 02:04:23 The last 13 first round quarterbacks, one bust, one. There were years when the first round you'd go 0 for four. These guys, listen, out you take away Paxton Lynch. All these guys can play. The game is built for, this is what hockey did. About seven years ago, hockey's had no more clutching and grabbing. New Jersey won a Stanley Cup. It's no surprise.
Starting point is 02:04:46 It's no secret that the trend. is fans want offense. And with offense comes finesse. It's just the way it is. Like you said, if you have a great pass rush, then you're in a good position. All right. Greg Jennings on our show tomorrow. Bucky Brooks, one of my favorite guys, former player and scout, author right now on my show tomorrow.
Starting point is 02:05:01 Chris Broussard, live to breakdown day one of LeBronzo. They play tonight against the Golden State Warriors. It's exhibition. It doesn't mean anything.
