Starting point is 00:00:09 What's up everybody? Welcome back to the Draymond Green show with my brother, Baron Davis. B.D. What's good, brother? How did you... First off, tell me how you spent your opening NBA night. I know I spent mine in a hotel room, but tell me how you spent yours. First off, crazy.
Starting point is 00:00:31 I got a flat tire on the way to the Clipper game to open it. But eventually, though. Bro, coming out of practice, one of the football coaches is like, yo, you got a flat tire. So I was late. You know, I barely made it at the beginning of the Intuit dome opening. You know, Clippers lost to the suns, but I have to say the Intuit dome is so pretty amazing thing.
Starting point is 00:01:00 You know what I mean? It's like it's so much shit going on. You know, but I mean, it's beautiful. The inside is great. The screen is amazing. You know, you need a face scan to go get your food. Oh, wow. Man, let's see.
Starting point is 00:01:18 It's no line. There's no people serving you food. There's just all like food. Like big vending machines, but it's like delicious and shit. Wait. There's no people. Like, no people. There are no people.
Starting point is 00:01:33 No. Like if you want a burger, you go get the burger off. You put your face in. door open. You're going to get the burger. You go get the sushi. You go get your drinks. And I had a homie.
Starting point is 00:01:47 I seen one of my homies because I didn't do my face skin yet. So I was like, man, look, man, I can't get in. You know what I mean? Man, go get, go. He was like, man, I got the face skin. Hey, bro, he was grabbing the stuff. And he was walking out and he was after the lady. Am I cool?
Starting point is 00:02:02 Am I cool? Like, it's too good to be true for somebody from out of late and just walking somewhere, grab the food, and be gone. But they got your face and they got your info. So you ain't even got to wait for it. Like, you literally don't have to wait for none. You just stay in your seat the whole time.
Starting point is 00:02:22 So everything is pretty much built. Like, like Bombers said, everything is built so that you don't leave your seat at all, for very minimum. You will stay in your seat the whole time. If you go to the bathroom, it's probably, you're not waiting. If you go to get food,
Starting point is 00:02:39 It's like three minutes. You know what I mean? So it's like, get your food, go back to the seat. Wow. In the bathroom, how were the toilets? I was in the suite. So I didn't see, like, the big bathroom with all the toilets. The suite we was in, like, it was only like two stars.
Starting point is 00:02:56 All we made a big deal about the amount of toilets. I think it's for the general pot. Yeah, that's what I was like, yeah, I'm going to the bathroom in the suites. I'm about to see all these toilets. And it was like two stalls. Oh, good. I was like, you know, where's the magic? I have my kids with me on.
Starting point is 00:03:17 We were excited. But they had like AR, they got a whole courtyard. And it's like, it's like a basketball experience. All the L.A. basketball jerseys from every high school. Wow. Bomber did it right. Wow. Bomber did it right.
Starting point is 00:03:32 And I would have been hyped like he was, too. You know what I mean? If I was open enough to. He was so high. bro, you know, I usually people are like, yo, like, Bomber hype. Hey, bro, I was up. I was hype too.
Starting point is 00:03:44 I was like, yeah, y'all not, y'all not feeling this? Yeah, I'm messing with Snoop and death, bro. That's how I was feeling. That's fire, man. For a bomber. No, Balmer is one of the owners in the league that he really pouring into that team, man.
Starting point is 00:04:02 And he, you know, you can tell he want to win now. What would have happened is, you know, got to figure that out, but he want to win and he's doing stuff to show that he put in his pockets, you know, where he's, you know, we're putting his pockets where his mouth is or however the saying go, he's doing it. So got to give him a lot of credit, man. Give him a lot of credit. Yeah, big up to Bomber, man. He put, he putting everything that he, he, he putting all this passion and his love into that team, man. He can't be mad at nobody. You know what I mean? You just got to, like, it make you support
Starting point is 00:04:39 because he's like, yo, I'm going to make the Clippers an L.A. team, and we're going to have our own legacy, our own arena. And, like, bro, that's like, that's crazy. For the Clippers, that's crazy. It's very hard to do, man. You think about, like,
Starting point is 00:04:55 the Lakers worldwide is like a big-ass deal. Like, worldwide that Los Angeles Lakers is. So, you know, in the city that they're in, as you know, being from there, there are really, really, really, really, really big deal.
Starting point is 00:05:13 And so, you know, originally I thought, when he bought the Clippers, he was going to move him to Seattle. So I'm like, man, like, it's the Clippers in L.A. It's just not really a thing. And I will say,
Starting point is 00:05:26 he's doing his best to make it a thing now. You know, um, that's the thing now. The arena, the arena helps. And you got people that's going to, like jump on the bandwagon because it's a nice arena.
Starting point is 00:05:40 And the tickets are more affordable than the Lakers tickets. You know what I'm saying? So you're going to have a lot of people in L.A. That's like, I'm going to the Gliber's game. They're going to be giving them seats away in there. No way. No, I'm just saying. That's like, it's the Lakers, man.
Starting point is 00:06:03 Like, that's tough to compete with. But Bomber is doing his best. And listen, he might get it done. You're excited that he got all the high school L.A. jerseys up. So maybe it's working. No, I mean, you know, I see mine for my kids taking a picture. You know, I got two of them up there. But I think for the first time, you actually went to a Clipper game
Starting point is 00:06:25 and you didn't have to deal with no Lakers. No Laker nothing. Yeah. You know what I mean? So like that right there is like the Lakers playing downtown, the Clippers playing in England. So now when you go into a clipper game, it don't have nothing to do with the Lakers, bro. And that's like a first ever.
Starting point is 00:06:45 And you felt that because you played there. For the first game. So you know. I played there and I saw it. Yeah. I saw it. You know, I could feel it. And it was like, damn, imagine if they had this arena when they had that team, you know, that was trying to compete with Chau.
Starting point is 00:07:02 Right. Right. It was going to make it very clear, the team that they thought was going to compete with us. yeah because for a while because for a while you know I said thought right no I say I'm happy you said that because I was going to make it very clear
Starting point is 00:07:17 that the team that was supposed to be but originally when we first started playing against them and we would be playing them in in Staples at the time and you look up and like the Lakers banners was hanging and Doc eventually end up having them
Starting point is 00:07:34 like cover them with like big posters and DJ and Blake and CP and JJ. But the Lakers banners was up there. And, you know, me, I just telling like, man, you got no banners up there, man. Shut up.
Starting point is 00:07:50 That's a little. You know. All right, man. So, you know, opening night, you was getting ready for your first game, right? Yes, sir.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Domations, got the win. Right? I trained it for you, right, for my fantasy team. Yes, sir. Okay. Respect. You had a good game. Team played great, right?
Starting point is 00:08:18 But you cost me like five points on my fantasy because of your technical foul. Man, that tech was some bullshit, bro. It's crazy. Also, ESPN. Well, J-Mond Green is activated. ESPN irks me. Because, you know, they want to build up this narrative, which is great, right? Like, on their, on their, um, their cutout, you know, their video cut up.
Starting point is 00:08:52 They cut it up with me talking back and forth with Tyler Ford. And they cut it up like I got the tech with Tyler Ford. I didn't even get a tech by Tyler Ford. Let me tell you how I got a tech. I was Benter him back and forth with Tyler Ford. Tyler Ford Benter. Like Tyler Ford will banter back and forth with me, which, you know, you know the referees that you can banter back and forth with and you know the way. Yeah, you can talk to you.
Starting point is 00:09:14 And Tyler will banter back and forth with me all night. I got nothing beloved and respect for Tyler. Trey Maddox comes and stand next to me at the free throw line. I'm lying there for the free throw. He comes and stand next to me. And he's like, Trey Mon, what's up, man? Like, tell me what's wrong. And I'm like, Trey, that's not a foul, man.
Starting point is 00:09:34 I got the same right to that ball that he got to the ball. and I went for the ball I also didn't make any contact with him it's not a foul and he's like but Ramon you dove I say yeah but I I can die for the ball like
Starting point is 00:09:49 for sure if I like I can dive too like the ball's on the floor and so I'm just like that's not a foul that's crazy man that is fucking bullshit and I'm just I'm walking across the lane like walking to my not even looking at him just walking to my spot
Starting point is 00:10:06 Moza, you know, and he gave me a tech. And I'm like, bro, how are you going to give me a tech? And you come over there talking to me asking me to talk to you. He's triggering you, bro. He gaslighted you. You can't cuss in the middle of the light, bro, but grow old man. What do you mean? I can't cuss.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Like, I'm not cussing you out. I can cussing you out. I can cuss when I talk. That's triggering, bro. cat or my mother. Like, you curse when I talk. I'm not cursing you out. And so I apologize for the technical BD, man.
Starting point is 00:10:46 That was crazy. However, ESPA didn't want to chop it up and act like, oh, he got a tech for going crazy over there in that situation. Stop it. And then, you know, everybody's making a thing about Steve Kurt, right? Like, they were like, oh, Steve Kirk called a time out. What was Steve Kerr saying? And he said,
Starting point is 00:11:04 Draymond, all right. I know, I know. I said, coach, that's bullshit, man. He come and talk to me and give me a tech, and I didn't follow him. He's like, I know. I know it was bullshit, but we need you. I watched it. I know it's bullshit, but we need you.
Starting point is 00:11:21 I'm like, no, I'm here. I'm fine. It's cool. I'm good. Oh, all right, he started drawing up to play. I'm cool. He started drawing up to play. We're cool.
Starting point is 00:11:31 Done. Moving on. Come on, yes, man, quit with that. They're trying. You know what's the most impressive thing about this whole story is you know every ref, but the first and last name. Oh, absolutely. Every single one of them.
Starting point is 00:11:47 You better believe it. Hey, Doc, I thought I was good with the rest. Like, you are on a whole other level. You know that first. I used to call it, you big hit. Dinosaur head I used to I used to be cool with him
Starting point is 00:12:11 And then they pissed me off I start bagging on him The whole game I'd be super cool with the rest I'd be super cool with him By the way I'm gonna tell you Like how you doing Jermann
Starting point is 00:12:20 Had a great summer I'm gonna tell you who I always roast He roast me back He crushed me when I had to sub with a commercial Tony brothers I'm Tony brothers Stay with some jokes Oh man I'd be roasting Tony
Starting point is 00:12:32 Tony in his thick ass Unibrow Thick ass eyebrows I'd be roast and Tony, but he'd be, Tony, Tony, Tony, Tony, you come in. Tony, brother's guy. When Tony comes in, he's coming in hot. He's going straight at you. Every time I had the Subway commercial.
Starting point is 00:12:47 I had the Subway commercial. He walked past our bitch. And if you remember the Subway commercial, it was something along the lines of like, it was my sub. And J.T. was talking about his sub. I was talking about my stuff. J.T. talking about his. I talked about.
Starting point is 00:13:05 mine and it's like my son is better than yours Tony can't pass our bench he said y'all got this soft-ass motherfucker over here I said better to yes sir
Starting point is 00:13:16 I said rent him oh I'm I'm I'm wrong with Tony brothers man no but I actually don't
Starting point is 00:13:28 I actually got a really good relationship with most of the referees but you know me when I'm in that when I'm in a heat of the battle, I ain't sparing nobody. Just like when people be like, yo, that's your friend, like, y'all friends off the court, you can't play hard. Like, bro, when I'm in a heat
Starting point is 00:13:43 of the battle, like, these referees, man, we just finished talking about my kids, day kids, high life of them, how life for me, we just talked about but once we're in the line a battle, he's sparing nobody. It's like, nobody.
Starting point is 00:13:59 So, that's just what it is. Everybody. Number one, also, before I ask you this question, Why is my tech a highlight, bro? The first highlight was my tech. Am I that big of a deal? That's pretty amazing for a guy who came to scoring basketball.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Am I that big of a deal? I am the lead out. You are. You are. I'll pat myself on the back sometimes. But speaking of the texts, go ahead. You know, some people probably got like an over-under. You're going to get to the first time.
Starting point is 00:14:35 that kind of season. I wonder was that in Vegas line. That's incredible, dude. I wonder if it was Vegas line. That was like, Jemann is here. He got to take it. It's no time.
Starting point is 00:14:50 We're here. But I blend the rough for that. You should get some money back because it sounded like he was gaslighted. It was for sure. But it's cool. I'll let him do it. I'm here anyway.
Starting point is 00:15:00 I should do that. All right, one take. Boom. We're here. Let's go. All right. Now, moving on. Oh, no, don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:07 During the 2003, 2004 season, you play with the Hornets. You record the highest number of technical files in your career, total of 16. What was going on with you that year? Did you get the help you needed? No, bro. I was out there, you know, I'll say anything, right? And so similar to you, I start off like, say, Tony Brothers, right? He was like, oh, man, I just bought me a Lexus December.
Starting point is 00:15:37 Same the one you had. You know what I mean? On Cribs game start. Okay, cool. All right, Tony. Hey, bro, homeboy hacking me. Beanie, chill. Tony, you Muppethead, motherfucker.
Starting point is 00:15:49 You know, call a foul, you burnt toast head. Hey, bro, that was like my whole MO. So I would get into it with the rest. I always start off cool. First quarter, second quarter out, bro. I'm going to spas out. I'm going to say something. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:16:12 I'm going to say something. And then back in 2003, 2004, you know, you got, I had Jamal McGuhr, Robert, Tractor, Traylor, Stacey Ogman, George Lynch. Like, we was really like, you know, we all pride ourselves on defense. Yes, sir. And so I think a couple of those is like, you know, you pressure in a dude. you steal the ball, a ref call the foul, but the dude trying to push you off
Starting point is 00:16:38 and you like, thank you out of here. You know what I mean? So it's like the file and the push. But I ain't never had no like real altercations with nobody on the court. Outside the reps, I talked shit to the reps.
Starting point is 00:16:52 Me and Rick Carlisle got into it one time. Who was he coaching that time? He was coaching Dallas because I think I did something to JJ Barrella. He'd flop. And so I came back down. I popped him one. you know what I mean for flopping
Starting point is 00:17:05 and Rick Carlisle was talking shit and I was like man Rick come on man like I give you my number he's gonna lunch I take you to lunch bro all the tough shit
Starting point is 00:17:18 we go have a conversation at lunch and after that man Rick Carlall being cool shout out to Rick Carlisle he tough though he was talking shit oh y'all passionate up I'm folding him Rick was about to whoop your ass
Starting point is 00:17:30 I'd have polled in him Rick was about to give you them He left you, bro. Hey, listen, he's going to get folded. You hear me? You hear me? You hear me? And every time I see him,
Starting point is 00:17:47 Follie muck. Man, Rick was going to two-piece you so crack. But you do? No way, bro. Hey, listen, he got to have to do it every time you see me, too. You do got to whip me every time you see me for sure. Because I'm a foldy, up if he want. I don't fight no more though. I don't even have that gene in my body, man.
Starting point is 00:18:11 My jean's gone. Fuck that. I ain't fight nobody. I just figure like, you know, words can hurt people. I ain't fight nobody. So listen to those out there, those out there in NBA land, if I talk shit to you this year, which I will, just know I'm not fighting you. I ain't trying to fight. I might even say like, yo, I'll fight you. Like, I'm not fighting you. Like, I ain't got, no fights. I don't want to fight. I don't even want to act like I'm going to fight. I'm done. No, man.
Starting point is 00:18:41 Oh, I'm done. This is, no. It's over. I had enough. You got words. Hey, bro, you got words. You got some ill. Hey, bro, you got some ill words for it. You got some ill words. I'm a user.
Starting point is 00:18:54 Adam, I tell him. Adam, I've had enough. I tell him, Adam, I'm done. And no fight for me. This is, you can have. No, you heard, and I hope all the reps is here in this too. Because Jemont know all y'all by your name. So that justice man has Jemond Green, right?
Starting point is 00:19:14 No triggers, no gas lighting. Thank you. We're going to have less than 16 technical files this year. I'm going to have less than 10 technical files this year. I might even make a decision and keep it even less than eight. But I got to make a conscious decision. I only know if I only know if I'm going to keep. but I'm a definitely
Starting point is 00:19:32 less than 10. Wait, how many before you get suspended? How many you get? 16. Oh, shit. That's when the coach, you know what I mean, in the gym, like, yo, one more tech.
Starting point is 00:19:49 You're suspended, bro. He can't have it. Bob Myers, you used to come to me like, all right, you're at 13 again. Like, I just wanted to come let you know. Totally fine, Bob. I got two more to play with them. I'm going to get to 15.
Starting point is 00:20:00 I'm done. Damn, dude. I ain't know. 16. I told you, I'm baby J. Ma'am. That's crazy. 16. I think I've had 16 texts maybe once in my career possible. I keep telling y'all, man,
Starting point is 00:20:13 I saw Joe Ellen, Joe Allen B. has way more flagrant files than me and way less games played. And I'm the bad guy. Just like you, 16 texts. See, they'd be hoodwicking
Starting point is 00:20:28 these people, man. They got these people thinking it's me. You people are hoodwigs. This man got 16 texts. I may have 16 texts in the season once, maybe, but I'm not certain twice. Damn. No, 18 and 19, I didn't, that's not accurate.
Starting point is 00:20:49 I didn't get suspended for a game. Yeah, I didn't get suspended for a game. So that can't be accurate. Damn, God. Richard Jefferson told me, Richard Jefferson told me this when I was a rookie. Because, man, you guys, man, I was making $800,000. and take over the grain of salt people.
Starting point is 00:21:10 I know 800 grand is a lot. But after taxes, I took home about $3.80. And my agent, my agent has stole money from me, my rookie year. Now, I had two agents. One of them didn't, and I'm still super close with him today. But the other one, the head agent at the time, so on top of that, plus when I first got out of college, I couldn't afford a car because I had no money and I was a second round pit.
Starting point is 00:21:42 So I had to rent a car from Enterprise. The Warriors was able to get Enterprise to rent me a car like on loan. But then it was like a $20,000 bill, but I didn't have no money to pay that either. And I had no way to buy a car. So also the $20,000 enterprise bill and furniture and stuff. Needless to say, all of that, I didn't have much money. Rent and the Bay is tough. then I had to buy a car after I paid the $20,000.
Starting point is 00:22:08 I didn't have no money, neither's to say. I said all of that to say, man, I got those first couple texts. I was sick to my stomach. I'm like, God, Lee, man, that $2,000 is going to crush me, man. Richard Jefferson told me, he said, hey, because I was tripping. He said, hey, I'm going to just tell you, you can count those little 2000s right now, and you can stress yourself out of those. but I'm going to tell you if you're going to make it in this league you're going to have to be a guy
Starting point is 00:22:41 that teeters that line and get texts and stuff and when our and rj told me that my rookie year fucked me up but he was right he was right and so that was straight no shout out to rj man rj was a great bet shout out to rj great bet one of my vets looking like a uh mr player a lot of relationship you know steve car got right because it's just like quarterback coach coach quarterback and Steve Curry in the post game he said that this is one of the deepest teams that he's ever coached.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Andrew Wiggins said this is one of the deepest teams in the NBA. I agree with both Steve and Andrew Wiggins. What makes this Warriors squad so potent
Starting point is 00:23:32 and so versatile in your opinion? I think number one, Mike, has done an incredible job of building this roster in a summer where it was like, oh, man, it's a bleak summer. Didn't get Paul George, didn't get Lori Marketing, like the Warriors lost the summer.
Starting point is 00:23:51 Mike Dunleavey was working. And Mike Dunleavy brought in a guy that in De Anthony Melton, who the Warriors been loved. And I know the Warriors loved him because during the Anthony Melton's draft, that was the first time, I think, either the first or second time I attended the drive room with the Warriors
Starting point is 00:24:09 and when I did at that time I was in there for like a week or two leading up to the drive, workouts, meetings, all of that and I remember Kirk Lake of them, they were like, I remember Kirk in specific, Kirk kept coming and talked to me. He was
Starting point is 00:24:27 huge on DeAnthony Melt and Melk and play as last year at USC. You know what I'm saying? So that was kind of the only thing of like, man, but we don't really know he haven't played. You know, he didn't play this year, but blah, blah. But they were huge on Melton, you know,
Starting point is 00:24:43 come full circle six years. A guy who was with the Memphis Grizzies when we played them in the playoffs, and they let him go after that. And we said then, like, once they let him go, like, yeah, that's a huge, huge, huge loss for them, man. Huge. Same for Kyle Anderson.
Starting point is 00:25:01 Another guy, yeah, UCLA Bruin. UCLA, L.A. L.A. L.A. You know, he comes in, a guy who, We've been trying to get for a couple years. He went to Minnesota last year. We've been trying to get him for a couple years.
Starting point is 00:25:14 Mike Dunleavy, go out and get Kyle Anderson, you know, a big, big, big pickup for us. Buddy Hill, we lose Clay Thompson. You know, need to get some shooting on the roster. Go out and get a Buddy Hill who, I don't know if people remember, but Buddy Hill was being compared to Steph coming out of college, coming out the way he was playing at Oklahoma. And now coming to playing this offense.
Starting point is 00:25:37 22 points last night, five made threes, 66% from the field. And I have no doubt that buddy's going to continue to play like that because he's going to get. Six men of the year. Exactly. He's going to get shots because the way our office is the way he moves, he moved without the ball. Crazy. He's going to get shots. And he shoot the lights out of the ball.
Starting point is 00:26:00 We all know that. So he's going to put himself in that. You know, we have a great year. He's going to put himself in that six man of the year. running. Shit, we have a great year. Steph Curry, got to be in all the runners.
Starting point is 00:26:13 And sure, we have a great year. You know, AD want to start campaigning for DPOI and stuff already after game one. Shit, I'm campaigning if two. We don't have a great year, great defensive year. Put on a defensive clinic last night. But keep on putting
Starting point is 00:26:29 on the defensive clinic. So, you know, that's kind of where we at with it. But this team is so deep, man. Adding guys like that. And then the young guys coming along. Moses. Jay Cater stepped into a starting role. You know, you got Trace. Obviously, you got, I call
Starting point is 00:26:45 Oh, Faithful, you got Loon, you know what you're getting from Loon every day. I always talk about. Yeah, another UCLA brewing. You know what I always talk about his professionalism and, like, you know what you're getting from him every day. Like, forget every night. You know what you getting from him every single day, bro.
Starting point is 00:27:04 And so definitely a deep team. I think the only team that I can really even try to compare to it as far as depth is our first championship team, our 2015 team. That team had crazy depth. Like Ian Clark ended up being a rotational player in the NBA. Ian Clark couldn't really get on the floor much with that team. You know what I'm saying?
Starting point is 00:27:26 So that's a, that team is the only team that I've been on, that I would put next to this one as far as depth. But, I mean, that's a championship team. So y'all got that versatility. Y'all got versatility. And for, I would say, for the first time I've seen, you have multiple people that are playmakers. Facts.
Starting point is 00:27:51 You know what I mean? Facts. That's what make y'all kind of potent. It's like the system allow you to make plays, but you got people that can be playmakers, too, and sneaky with it. You know what I mean? So, you know, Melton, Kyle Anderson, sneaky with it.
Starting point is 00:28:10 You know what I mean? You have these kind of like mobilized guys. And then you got guys who just make plays. Lou, GP3, Kaminga, just because, you know what I mean? Absolutely. Trace. Like all of the pieces is complimented, man. I love what I'm saying because when you think about 82 games,
Starting point is 00:28:34 the way you guys have been playing over the years. I think a lot of those games, like last year you would lose, a lot of those games, you're going to win those games because just what we saw against Portland, there's not going to be a, oh, they're clawing back. You know what I mean? Absolutely. I like that.
Starting point is 00:28:53 Absolutely. And what I like about this team is like, you look at our first unit, it's go, go, go, man. It's like, go, it's force, it's meet force. That second unit then come in, it's like, It reminds me again of that team when Sean Livingston and Andre Goddala came in. You have me, Steph and Clay out there running around like chickens with our head cut off. They flying around the court.
Starting point is 00:29:15 I'm flying around defensively. I'm making the plays offensively. We wild as hell out there. And then Andre and Sean come in and they calm everything down. And that's what I'm seeing at this second group, which is going to be big for us, man. That's going to be huge. Absolutely. What would you say that we believe team?
Starting point is 00:29:36 Because I remember talking to stat, Matt, and they was talking about like when y'all, we believe team got assembled, the moves that happened at the trade, that line, and different things. Would you say that's the one of the deepest teams you've been on or was your Clippers seen deeper? No, I remember I wasn't on the Clipper team that won. I had Blake and DeAndre when they was rookie. So Blake, DeAndre, Eric, Russell,
Starting point is 00:30:02 Eric Gordon, they was all rookies. Okay. But I say the Warrior team, the reason why I could assimilate, we were so versatile. Yes. Yeah. Right. And we was like eight deep,
Starting point is 00:30:13 but whoever that night or ten person was, was somebody nobody was paying attention to, and we knew how to use them. You know what I mean? Absolutely. So the shit just started becoming like, you know, we had, like you think like a C.J. Watson, like he coming in picking up full of change
Starting point is 00:30:32 in the energy. You got Aizabuki, he coming in, he can score. You know what I mean? And so Nelly was smart about how he kind of mobilized. You got Matt who started, came off the bench, some games. Al started, came off the bench, some games. Peaches started,
Starting point is 00:30:50 came off the bench some games. So it's a lot of interchange. It was like a lot of interchange and talent. But I would say, like, as far as depth, like, we didn't have like a second five. Yes. Yes. You know what I mean? It was like we got eight, maybe nine,
Starting point is 00:31:10 but we didn't have like a full second five. You know, like looking at how y'all got like three different sets of teams, three, four sets of teams that you can put out on the floor and still look this, you know what I mean, still look like they're all starting. For sure. Man, we got Lindy Waters, who is not a part of rotation right now and could very much So be a part of the rotation. He played great in camp, even when he got in last night. Those guys at the, which Stott said today in film, I didn't know. Those guys scored 25 points in five minutes when they got in the game.
Starting point is 00:31:45 That's great. Like, man, so you got, yeah, you got like all these young guys. They've been in the gym working, man. They've been putting that work in and it's showing and it's helping around this team out. So, yeah, man. Starting point is 00:33:27 which to me is super low, hell of low, especially with somebody like an all-star player like Lori marketing. They nearly beat Memphis, you know. Are the Jazz the team you think about, you know, do you think they're 29? I definitely don't think they're 29. I'm actually sitting in a hotel room in Utah right now, ironically. I don't think they're 29th by any stretch of imagination. If you even look at how they started the season,
Starting point is 00:34:01 each of the last two years. Like Danny Aitj is rebuilding this franchise. So they kind of start the season. They'd be a playoff contention. Will Hardy's a great young coach. Lori Markner has come into his own. They obviously got Jordan Clarkson over there who can fill it up. You know, they got guys who can play.
Starting point is 00:34:22 John Collins. Like, they got guys that can play. And so I think for them to be at 29th, like, are they? They're worse than the Wizards? Are they worse than the pistons? Hell no. I'll go even a step further. Are they worse than the Bulls?
Starting point is 00:34:40 I think not. I don't think they worse. Are they worse than the Brooklyn Ness? I think not. So that right there already puts them in 25th for me. I think 29th is crazy. But I heard they got. Especially with an all-stop.
Starting point is 00:35:00 Yeah, I heard they got Detroit ranked above them. Like, come on, what are we talking about? That is diabolical. Like, and I'm from Michigan. And I'm rooting for Detroit. Luke Walsh's assistant coach there now. My guy Jared Jack, who's my vet, my OG vet. I'm rooting for the Pistons.
Starting point is 00:35:19 I'm rooting for the Pistons too, bro. But, man, I saw them players in the preseason. Boy, pistons do well. The state is great when the Pistons are doing, Well, man. It's been a long time. Yeah, we got to get the piss.
Starting point is 00:35:38 I would say the pistons are better than the Wizards, though. For sure. Ah! Nah. Nah, because JP, like he did tonight, J.P. can get cooking. Coos can get cooking. Who else they got? Let me see the pisses got to buy.
Starting point is 00:35:56 I think when Jordan Pooley hooping, he don't really know what the score is, but, so he, at the end of the game. I don't really think, you know, if they won their loss. It's more so like, damn, I have 40 tonight. They're like, yo, we won. It's like, yeah, I got 40 on these fools. You know what I mean? Can you blame him? I don't think he knows the score.
Starting point is 00:36:15 Can you blame him? I think when the game is. You can't blame him. You can't blame him. That's fun of the dog. He be in the game to do one thing, bro. Let's get busy. What else you're going to do there?
Starting point is 00:36:30 Like, they ain't winning no games. You know that dude that comes in the game. club just to dance. You know what I mean? I mean, he danced. He danced every song, and he out. Yep, that's our boy, Poole. I mean, he's going to get busy.
Starting point is 00:36:45 As he should, though. Like, you can't. And he may look up, he may look up at the clock. I can be like, yeah, we're down 20s, eight minutes. I can get some more points. My fault, you know, I love you, Poole, baby. But that didn't think they're paying attention to the school. It's hard to fall someone in that position.
Starting point is 00:37:11 In Washington, it's hard to fall somebody. Hey, bro. Hey, bro. Go get some money. It's hard to force somebody. He's going to get the money. Somebody else better watch the school. He showed that he can play championship basketball.
Starting point is 00:37:27 He was a vital part of us winning the championship. And, Rob, didn't he know the score? Yeah, I mean, his role doesn't necessarily know the score. He knew he was winning. That's all I'm saying. Some guys like that, you let them score. And I'll worry about the score. Let him go.
Starting point is 00:37:45 I'll worry about the score, time and score. Yes. You think Clay knew the score? No, but Clay knows what the score is. Because Clay, but more so from a competitive standpoint. Like, Clay knows. It's just from a like he want to win so bad. Like he'll run through a brickwater win.
Starting point is 00:38:06 Yes. More from NASDA. Yes, Clay Thompson will be like, yo, we up 11, two minutes to go. No, no, no, he's going to shoot up. If he's wide open, he's shooting the three. There ain't no time to score. Oh, yeah, if he's wide open, he's going to shoot. There's no time to score.
Starting point is 00:38:21 We could be up two points with 20 seconds to go with a shot clock off. If he open, he's shooting it. Clay going to do that. Absolutely. Clay going to do that. Absolutely. So, you know. And that's cool.
Starting point is 00:38:32 But Jordan Poole is going to do the same thing. For sure. Without knowing if it's 20 seconds on the clock. I think he knew when he was here. Hey, bro, it's going up. That's all I'm saying. That's put it done. Hey, well, Poole touch it is going up.
Starting point is 00:38:51 It's going up. That's it. That calculation is going up. How can I get my shot off? And if I can't, can I pass it to somebody where they fumble the ball? That's wild. That's wild. That's wow.
Starting point is 00:39:06 I had a homie like that at 24-hour fitness. He thought people bad passes and chased the ball. That's wild, man. That's crazy. A higher gun. He's a higher gun. Man, moving into the weekend, Sunday, we had to create it for the first. I'm excited as hell to play at Chase Center for the first time this year.
Starting point is 00:39:32 We got the Clippers at home. They played last night. A couple of nights ago, they played against the Phoenix Suns. And they are without their big dog, they top dog, because they got another big dog. But they out without their top dog, Hawaii. We don't know how long that'll be, how long he'll be out. But James Hardin said, and I, quote, this is not a recent quote, but I quote, I am a system. And last night, he was a system.
Starting point is 00:40:08 Almost would the voice to a win, wasn't able to pull it out down the stretch. But I think you should expect to see that James Hardin this year. Yes. Because we know he can tap into it. Now, here's the kicker. James is 35, maybe turn to 36 or something. like that. Like, he can't do it night in and night out like he did when he was in Houston. Nobody can. Like, once you get to that age, to do that thing night in and night out every single night at the usage rate that James have when he cooking like that, man, that's that. Don't try to make it a, oh, he ain't in shape. Like, no, no, no.
Starting point is 00:40:49 That brother has played a lot of basketball and is getting older. Nobody's who's getting older. Like, when you get an older, you see the superstar still playing at a superstar level. But you better believe they know how to pick and choose their spots. Like they ain't just balls to the wall every time like they used to be. And so I think you're going to see that James Harden this year. I agree. I think in order for the Clippers to be successful this year,
Starting point is 00:41:14 you have to go to James Hardin system of basketball. Right? You're going to get a shot on, right? You're not going to really turn the ball over that much. but I do think the Clippers have some cool talent, right? I think Kevin Porter, Jr. could be that guy. You know what I mean? Like, if you's right, he could be the other James Hardin
Starting point is 00:41:41 when James Hardin is not James Hardin. You know what I mean? Derek Jones, I think he gives them, you know, flexibility on the wing, defense, Norman Powell. I think they have a lot of versatility, but it has to be James Hardin basketball. For sure. You got to play through James because that's going to make, you know,
Starting point is 00:42:05 I saw last night they were feeding Zubak a lot. He played pretty good down low. But all of that, you know, the Kai Jones kid, he shoots through the roof. If James does that, you keep the game close, right? And you got enough talent and good enough players that you have to take an account for, you know, Derek Jones, you've got to take an account for Norman Powell,
Starting point is 00:42:30 Kevin Porter Jr., you know, slashing Terrence Mann, right? So the Clippers got got some ingredient pieces that I think will comp, like they already compliment James, but they got to just, you got to give them the ball and say, hey, man, we're going to live this season. How you rock? You know what I mean? He's let him go off swinging. That's the only chance.
Starting point is 00:42:56 Yeah, you have to. That's the only chance. And then when Kauai come back, then, you know, Kauai is a higher good. Yeah, for sure. It ain't going to make no difference. For sure. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:43:06 And Kauai is one of those players where he can fit in any system. Like, he's that good. He can fit in any system. He's going to need James to play like that. If James, if that allows him to get the best James harder possible, because he going to need the help. Don't need the help. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:26 And James can get that automatic 25-30 without, hey, bro, I can just pass a handle ball and go take a rest and chill because, you know, Kauai can get his own money. Absolutely. Absolutely. So we'll see how I play out. I'm going to like this matchup. Will y'all play?
Starting point is 00:43:41 We play Sunday. Sunday at Chase. On Sunday night. Yes, sir. 530 game on Sunday. Locked in. I'm tapping in. Locked in.
Starting point is 00:43:51 Locked in. man, moving around the league. Let's dive into some of the stuff going on around the NBA. First off, we got a whole bunch of players signed extensions. We got older guys signed extension, but we got the mom guns. Congratulations.
Starting point is 00:44:06 We got them young guns sound extensions. Now, we're going to talk about a few interests in ones, but before we talk about those, shout out to my young fellow, my rook, young Moe Money, Moses Moody. You know what I'm saying? I'm happy for most this man
Starting point is 00:44:23 three years nice deal what do you get three years 39 million 13 a year put that money in your pocket
Starting point is 00:44:30 continue perfecting your craft now you got some bread in your pocket you ain't got a stress the first way you know what I'm saying yeah that's the first way I'm happy for Mo that's a great deal for
Starting point is 00:44:39 but let's get into some of these man I'll ask you the question um some of my thoughts but Jalen Green Houston Rock is number two pick in 2021, three-year-106. I like it. I like especially what you was saying is usually like the second pick,
Starting point is 00:44:59 take the five-year deal. You know what I mean? But I mean, if you look at the two plus one versus the five, it's like this doesn't seem like he's going to be out of that deal, you know, walking in some major cheese, right? So it's almost like I have security. If you're at the bag and established my valuation, now I got a good footprint. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:45:27 Over the next two years to go, like, jack that number up. 100%. I agree. But you were saying from the Houston perspective, you liked it too. Well, so here's the thing. I like it from both sides because the reality is Jalen Green over the course of the second half of the season really picks it up last year. but you get a lot of these scenes that jumped a gun and get these guys five years 224
Starting point is 00:45:54 and he ain't really necessarily proved that he's worth all of that yet. You know, so. Yeah, he ain't made the offer yet. Exactly. So I'd imagine that Jalen Green was kind of at a stalemate with Houston. And because he was at a stalemate
Starting point is 00:46:10 was probably he wanted the five-year max. And then I don't think they wanted to do it. And so shout out to Aaron Mintz, who's Jalen Green's agent. He got a deal done. He got created. And so you go hit them with the two plus one, put $100 million possibly in this kid's pocket. But in two years, he going to come back up. And guess what's going to be going on in two years?
Starting point is 00:46:36 That new TV money. So all of a sudden, these guys who's Kay Cunningham, you got Scotty Barnes, you got Franz, you got Franz Wagner. Oh, yeah, they're about to, they bought to. They all got five years. years 24, though. In two years, Jalen Green going to murder their contracts. He's going to be one of the highest pay players in the league.
Starting point is 00:46:57 Absolutely. And so, you know, if he keep on that trajectory that he was on in the year, which I'm sure they are saying like, oh, we need to see more of that. He keep on that trajectory, getting $35 million a year and keep on that trajectory, that 35 going to be 75 in two years, he keep it up. So I think that's a very very very. very, very interesting deal. You usually want to lock your top picks up for five years.
Starting point is 00:47:25 However, you know, both, they definitely didn't feel comfortable. I get it, no problem. I think he got a great deal done despite of what he could have thought of what people may think or say. I thought that was a great deal. That was a great deal. Another great deal, Jalen Johnson. Woo, Richie P.
Starting point is 00:47:43 For a 20th pick. Lord our mercy. HIP, stuck them up, five years 150. Lord. Lord, how mercy. That's a good deal for Jalen Johnson, man. He, um, I mean, congratulations. Hell yeah, that's a great deal, man.
Starting point is 00:47:58 We want to see him get everything you can. Yes, sir. Congrats to him, man. But that's back to the Jalen Green thing. You got somebody who even less proven than Jalen Green. You know what I mean? But when you look at his talent, his upside and, you know, what he can do,
Starting point is 00:48:15 I mean, at this rate in this market, like, you know, lock a young dude up like that. 100%. 100%. 1,000%. So he can go. That was a great deal for Jalen Johnson. You know, it doesn't strangle whole your team. It was 30 a year.
Starting point is 00:48:33 But it's good money in his pocket. Allowed him to continue proving himself. I think that I really liked that. And then another one that really caught my attention. And I think is well deserved. I think he's going to outplay this deal, believe it or not. But Trey Murphy, four years, 112. Oh, hell, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:55 I think that is a very good deal for him, man. And like I said, I think he ultimately, depending on, because there's a log jam also at that position for the Pelican. So depending on where he end up falling in that log jam, which he's elite, shoot the lights out the ball, athletic can defend. I think he'll ultimately outplay that deal, but I think that's a great deal for him as well. That's a great deal for him, man.
Starting point is 00:49:22 That's a great deal. Other notable players who sign, obviously Kay Cunningham, five years 224, you talked about Evan Mowgli, five years 224, Scotty Barnes, Franz Wagner, and then Jayla Sons, five years, $150 million for Orlando Magic.
Starting point is 00:49:41 You know, this 2021 class, You know, I got to say, man, they're getting the bread up. You know, you look at those first, you know, 10 pigs, 20 picks. You know, it's all over the place, for one. You know what I mean? But I think when you look at this class, it's like super talented, anything can happen, right? Players who didn't. Josh Kinney, Jonathan Kaminga.
Starting point is 00:50:14 thoughts on Jonathan Caminga. I think J.K., if I was his representation, the moment I saw that deal come across with Jalen Green, I would have been calling the Warriors back like, yo, what about something like this? Because when you go into this, and by the way, I think J.K. is going to be totally fine. I think he's going to have a big year.
Starting point is 00:50:44 he'll be a okay. But I notice the pressure, as you do, going in the season and not having a extension done and having to play that year out, that's stressful. You know what I'm saying? So if I was his representation, me personally, I would have been looking to try to get something done, even if it's shorter term like Jalen Green did, because I want to be able, I want to make sure that he has the piece of mind. of knowing like I got that money in my pocket and now you out there playing to be great.
Starting point is 00:51:19 You're playing focused on being an all-star, not necessarily focused on getting a contract. But nonetheless, he cut out for him. He's a tough kid. You know, he believes in itself very, very strong will. I think he'll be fine. Yeah, I like his belief in this stuff. Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 00:51:40 It's like, man, I'm going to bet on myself. you know, I think he has the talent when you look at, you know, the eighth pick, fourth pick, the fifth pick, the 20th pick, you know, he's going to get somewhere around that. So he should be pretty good, pretty fine. But I also think the fact that him not getting that coming into a season like this creates a fucking terror in this young man. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:52:12 like, I'd be afraid for other teams knowing that and other players in my class. Like, okay, when we match up against him, he got this. Oh, yeah, I'm going to have to go prove myself. You know what I mean? And it's not like pressure. It's like, man, I am, I got a heat seeking missile on everybody in my class, everybody at my position. And it's really not about the money because you didn't get the money.
Starting point is 00:52:38 Right. So now you're upset. You know what I mean? It's about, oh, you think these people have more value to me. And now that's when he gets to go in. Now, betting on yourself in, he gets to go rock. You know what I mean? Because it's a handle of a freedom.
Starting point is 00:52:55 Because the market is set for it. That's the fact. That's the fact. You just go get the kids to go play basketball. So he'll definitely get something done. I ain't worry about that at all. I think an interesting one, though, is Josh Giddy.
Starting point is 00:53:11 There's reports that Josh Giddy is looking for somewhere a little 30 a year. Now that number 30 is interesting because when he was on the floor last night, they were almost a minus 30. And when he was off the floor, they played better.
Starting point is 00:53:29 He could get moved, though. Yeah. He don't finish Chicago. I don't think, you know, I don't think he going to really finish Chicago, especially if Alonzo come back, And Lanzo start feeling good. You got the young kid, the rookie.
Starting point is 00:53:45 Zellate. Lice. Right. Yeah. So I, if I'm Chicago, I'm trying to move him and get some pieces, especially somebody like that asking for 30. You know what I mean? That's, I'm not to pass on that.
Starting point is 00:54:02 You know what I mean? I'm not to pass that off to somebody. But I definitely think Giddy is somebody who's worth. you know, somewhere in this value of everyone been drafted in 2021. Yeah, got to be the right fit, though. But 30, I wouldn't do that if I was Chicago, not seeing, you know, if I'm rebuilding,
Starting point is 00:54:21 then that's, you know, you got to think about long-term value, short-term value, and rebuilding value. Danny Ains is one of the best things. You know what I mean? And Sam Presti. Sam Presti is a hard. He's a killer. Yeah, no, he's for show.
Starting point is 00:54:38 He is for show. You know, all the OGs, the retired dudes, you know, they've been chiming out in the media. Our boy, Joe L&B, is sitting out backs to back and has made a lot of people upset, bro. He's like, no more backs to back, no more back to backs by the rest of my career. That was a strong statement, man. And Chuck is upset and KG is upset. Chuck says, we are he still workers? We play maybe four nights a week, but we're not still.
Starting point is 00:55:12 We're not working in the steel. For real. Listen. Man, it's tough. Here's the thing. You know what I mean? I think what Chuck has to understand is Joel has a very bad knee, and he kind of don't want to be Kenny when he's done.
Starting point is 00:55:29 And so you kind of got to take that into it. You don't want them doll legs. You kind of got to take that to it. Hey, Kenny, I love you. man, it's all love, brother. We love you, Katie. We know you got them stuff animal legs. But, you know,
Starting point is 00:55:49 Joel has a very, very, very bad knee. Now in saying that, here's what I would say to Joe. I think you should play as many games as you can play. And I think you should average as many points as you can average. And I think you should chase as many individual awards as you can chase. because since the talk of winning a championship these days are more like spoke about than ever.
Starting point is 00:56:20 And so you got a guy like Joelle who gets great stats, who almost starts to shy away from it because people talk so much about a championship. Like Joelle last year scored 60-some points or 70 points in a regular season game. And after the game during this press conference, I was watching, or not even, It's the interview on the court.
Starting point is 00:56:39 He was like, yeah, you know, the 70 is great, the 60 is great, but it don't mean nothing without the ring. And I'm just like, what? Like, no, Joe. Like, you just had 70 points in the regular season. Who gives a fuck about a ring? And that ain't happening until June, brother. Like, it's cool to have these numbers that you just had.
Starting point is 00:56:57 And, like, that's great. Like, enjoy that. And so I hear him start to talk about it more and more and more. And my thing to him is, you may never win one. Like the hope is to win one. And I'm not saying he can't win one. But what I'm saying is you may never win one. And then you shortage yourself on the thing that we know for sure you can do,
Starting point is 00:57:19 which is go get an MVP, which is cook everybody in the league. Like we know you can do that. And so to sit out saying I'm trying to maximize everything so I can get the championship at the end. But also getting a championship at the end, you got to know how to win a championship. And he don't because he hasn't done it. And on top of that, as soon as you say, I'm not playing back to backs, that means you could feel bad on the first end and incredible on the second end. And because you've given yourself this rule, you ain't going to get no better, bro.
Starting point is 00:57:54 You know what I mean? Like, you're not pushing yourself. I understand injuries and all that shit. But what happens in the playoffs when you feel and your body feel like, damn, dude, I feel like we just played a back-to-back. You know what I mean? Like, you know that. It's like, you in game four, you're in game five.
Starting point is 00:58:16 You're like, man, shit. The games are coming faster, right? You know, it's Sunday than Tuesday, right? That's a back-to-back, damn near with playoff intensity, things of that nature. So being able to say, I quit before giving yourself a chance. And like, I mean, who the hell is informing is like, what are they saying? Right. And who's in his ear that has him talking with us?
Starting point is 00:58:48 You know what I mean? Because he should be where Janice was. I need to be the number one team in the league. If we can be number one team in the league, we can put ourselves in championship contention. Right. And I always said once Janice and Milwaukee fell to fourth or fifth and stopped playing for first, they'll learn how to win closer games. Right.
Starting point is 00:59:13 And so, Joll, you are already checking out saying like, y'all going to have me for this game, but y'all going to have to play a different style of this game. You'll never find that consistency. That's true. You'll never find the chemistry. You know what I mean? and what could happen is you run the risk of when you sit down, people like, oh, he said, you know, like you don't want your teammates happy.
Starting point is 00:59:38 Yes. That you're not playing. You know what I mean? And you're the leader of the team. I agree. I agree. I think he's a slippery slope, man. At the end of the day, you started this career to build a Hall of Fame resume.
Starting point is 00:59:51 The part of building a Hall of Fame resume is the statistics that we know he puts up and we'll continue to put up whenever he plays. And I think that, like, that should be a part of his focus, too. Like, don't just make everything about a championship. Because then you also, what you then do is, too much pressure and as great of a career is he going to have, you're going to get to the end of your career, and you're going to make it to where people can then say,
Starting point is 01:00:18 because of what you said, ah, yeah, he did this, but he didn't get his championship. Like, no, bro. Reggie Miller is still great. Like, he didn't get a championship. Chris Paul is still playing, but say if CP don't get, he is still great. Like, still great, man. And so that would just be my thing to Joelle, man.
Starting point is 01:00:37 Yeah, like what you're saying is chase your individual greatness because you're going to get as far as your talent and far as your talent can take it to them. 1,000%. You know what I mean? Don't look at it as like, I'm chasing a championship. because you put too much pressure on yourself and your teammates and you and you every day so you never get to celebrate the fact that like, hey, I score 70 points and like I can do this any night.
Starting point is 01:01:09 You know what I mean? But it's like the 70 don't mean that if we don't win a championship. That shit, though, it's too far out to be thinking championship. Exactly. 1,000%. You know what I mean? You can be like, we want to be a contender,
Starting point is 01:01:23 championship mentality. But you can't have a championship mentality not playing it back to back. Man, we're introducing a new segment this week called I Got Five on it, where BD will discuss five players. He's high on heading into the weekend. BD was the number five. I got five on it. Talk to me, BD.
Starting point is 01:01:45 No. Shout out to the Loonies. I got five on it. We start with number one. Oh, my boy. Now, this is the only point guard. Outside of Steph Curry, that it's like, I have to tap in, right? That is my, that is my, my, my, uh, spirit player, the player I would want to be like,
Starting point is 01:02:07 if I was in the league, lamello ball. Okay. Uh, I think lamello, another all-star year, you know, I want him to stay healthy, but I think, man, this dude is just, it's just beautiful basketball when he plays. You know what I mean? Great joy. Uh, number two, coming in. Trayman.
Starting point is 01:02:26 Trayman is my surprise. That was another one of my young protegees. You know, me and Trayman, we talk about you got to have a thousand moves, 100 moves and a thousand counters, a thousand moves and a hundred counties. So it looked like he getting off to a great start. Jayman Green, we talked about him the year that he can have coming off to tell him last year with more responsibility in Houston, you know, with a young team. Number four, the frontrunner for defensive player of the year.
Starting point is 01:03:00 That's wild. That's wild. That's crazy. Oh, man. That's my high thought. You know, A, D. I actually think A, the Lakers will be a much better team if A.D. is the focal point of the Lakers on the offensive end and on the defense team.
Starting point is 01:03:18 Beath the big man. He don't produce, you know, he's a machine in numbers. For sure. And then at number five. Welcome back John Morant. I think, you know what I do think. I think Anthony Edwards needs John Morant's. Aggressiveness.
Starting point is 01:03:38 Interesting. That's what I think is holding that Anthony Edwards back. So I go with John Moran and number five because John Moran is a dog. He's a winner. You know what I mean? He's playing to win. And he make winning plays. As you've seen, you know, he put, you know, it was a, you know,
Starting point is 01:03:55 That was a Utah on their back with a round of back to lay. I'm excited to see him back in the league feeling good. And so that would be, that's my high five. I like it. I like Lamello. I think Lamello needs a healthy year. You know, we all know what he's capable of, so he just got to stay healthy.
Starting point is 01:04:17 Trey Man, I think, you know, I really like that, giving the young fella some love. You know, he was kind of stuck in that log jam. in okayc. But the good thing about that is, is he know how to be a pro because that's a great organization. And he was working behind
Starting point is 01:04:33 Shegilders, Alexander. And when you watch him play, some of that stuff looks a little shayish. So I like that one. Jalen Green, I like that. That went a lot as well. I think Jalen Green, like you said, closing out the year,
Starting point is 01:04:48 he had a really, really great stretch that second half of the season. And, you know, it was averaging probably almost close to 30 points, if not averaging 30 points. So I like that one. At number four, you had... At number four, he had... Jaylon Green...
Starting point is 01:05:10 Anthony Davis, who's campaigning for defensive player the year already after game one. Ad, stop it, man. You're acting like Trump, right? Put that pressure on him, AD. Put that pressure. I like this, though. I like AD doing that.
Starting point is 01:05:25 I like you, too. Put pressure on you. I like it too, for real. Let's go. Like, state it. You know what I'm saying? Like, speak on it. AD, his whole career hasn't been a guy that would necessarily come out and say that.
Starting point is 01:05:36 So I actually, that's growth for real. So I actually love to see that too. And we all know AD is one of the most special players in this league. So no need for me to spend a bunch of time there. And then at number five, Jiam Rent, the league is better when Jaya's playing. Playing is simple. There's a highlight or two or three. or four or five, every single time he steps on the court.
Starting point is 01:05:59 The Memphis Grizzies is a totally different team when he's on the court. They all follow his bravado. And he's a great leader. And so I like it. You know, bringing Memphis back, trying to get them back to where they were a couple of years ago. Like a lot of people wrote jaw off last year. You know, the NBA is a very, what have you done for me lately? And so everybody started writing him off last year, not.
Starting point is 01:06:25 Putting him in the top guys under 25 and all that nonsense. So I'm excited to see Jock come out and have a year that we all know, John's on the floor. He'll be there. Yes, sir. So listen, man, you got five on it. I'm a one-four flat this, bro. I got some.
Starting point is 01:06:45 A, ISO. I need an ISO. One-four flat. Okay. Let's call I-so. What are you are? I got something that I'm sick of. It's sportsmanship.
Starting point is 01:07:02 I'm sick of it. Here's what I'm sick of and why I'm sick of. I'm sick of the all nice guy's stuff in sports, man. You know, teams dribbled a ball out at the end of the clock. And, you know, this came to me the other day. When the Celtics had one more chance to make a three, one more chance and they took the shot clock violation. And I'm like, no, there's 34 seconds left on the clock.
Starting point is 01:07:29 All coaches teach play to the buzzer. It's the Knicks. It's the Knicks. Play to the Knicks. You're right. But no, we got to hold the ball because that's the classy thing. Stop it. When the game is close, you want everybody to play from buzzer to buzzer. So don't discriminate when the games are blowout.
Starting point is 01:07:45 You shouldn't have got blown out. It is what it is. Let's get rid of this garbage. Unspoken law. It sucks. I hate it. And I'm going to tell you where else it shows up at. For instance, we go to Olympics when KD was coming off the bench in the Olympics.
Starting point is 01:08:04 And they're like, oh, yeah, KD said he wanted to come off the bench. You as a player, you have to say that. You can't say like, oh, yeah, like, no, I have to start. Like, then you were asshole and you're like a headcase. You have to say that as we play team sports. Right. So you always have to say that. So I hate when coaches will ask like,
Starting point is 01:08:23 yo, you might like, of course I'm going to say no, but yeah, I mind. Like, and players can't. And so that's one of them. But then also one happened, difference for it, but it happened the other day. Seyquan Barker, playing against his old team in New York Giants. He needs 13, 14 y'allos to break his all-time record. And Nick Seriani goes and sit next to him with his microphone,
Starting point is 01:08:47 like he don't know he got a mic on and say, Hey, man, so 14 yards, young guys, you know, you want to, and he like, and Sequin, of course, they, now, let them meet. Because guess what? Sequin can't say, no, I want to go get it. And then he go out there trying to get 13 yards and he get hurt that he looked like an idiot. Like, just, you know he wants to 13 yards, man. Let him go get to 13 yards, man. Run two more plays.
Starting point is 01:09:11 Three more plays. That's just boof on the coach. I hate these things, man. You don't ask the player, like, you know, you got one more rebals. You want to go back in and get your triple double? Like, no, he ain't going to never get it then because you're putting attention on it. Keep him in rhythm.
Starting point is 01:09:26 Oh, I'm saying. And then when you, you know what I mean? Like keep him in rhythm. Let him get the number. He wouldn't have been tripping. Everybody else would have played the same amount of time, got the same amount of touches. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 01:09:38 And it's New York. And it's your former team. It's like, yo, you was doing all that shit talking about me in the preseason. I don't came over here out and ran all over you. You know what I mean? Mike, you're supposed to drive the nail in the coffee. 1,000%. I agree.
Starting point is 01:09:55 You're supposed to drive the nail in the coffee. I agree. That's my one-four flat for the day, man. I'm happy you agree with me. Just a couple things that have been grinding my gears. And I just wanted to share those. Let's get rid of these unwritten rules. But before we get out of here, bro, get at me. Shout out to the fans.
Starting point is 01:10:12 We want to hear from y'all. So make sure when you see a post on social that you submit your question, and we might answer it on the pod. It's called Get at Me. Another segment for y'all. Get at me. So, starting it off. Morphabody, because he played on multiple teams.
Starting point is 01:10:30 How can you tell, sorry, this is at context. Contextile rebellion, context is the name. At contextual rebellion. Morphor BD, because he played on multiple teams, how can you tell that a head coach, has his S-H-I-T together, what are the signs that he knows what he's doing or that he doesn't?
Starting point is 01:10:55 And if he doesn't, how do you cope through that season? I would say assurance, right? That he's sure, right? He's confident in what he's saying. That's how you know a coach has his stuff together is he's confident, he's prepared. But more importantly, a coach that goes to the players that he knows he's going to need for the season
Starting point is 01:11:19 and be able to understand how to best utilize their talents. You know what I mean? And so a great coach is going to recognize you for where you are, and they're going to ask you for one or two or three things, right, that they can get more from you. That should be beneficial to the team.
Starting point is 01:11:42 And so that's really the way I look at you know, a good coach. Like, you know, I'm not had that many great coaches. And so it's, you know, you got Don Nelson who was like, man, this is a style. This is the system. Y'all go figure out how to be intelligent in it. Here's Mike Woodson. It's like, here's a style.
Starting point is 01:12:05 Here's a system. We prepare. We're going over the, you know what I mean? We're going over all the one-toos to nicknocks. You have Mike Montgomery who coaches from like a college. playbook. You know what I mean? And so it's like he's just coaching from some shit he learned 12 years ago and has nothing to do with like the 12 people, you know what I mean, on his team, probably planning it. You know what I'm saying? And so I think, you know, you look at a coach
Starting point is 01:12:36 and you say, is he sure of himself? And then what is he saying? Does that shit going to resonate for somebody, a player, to be like, you know, I'm motivated to do. You know, I'm motivated to do. You. that, right? That's kind of the way I look at it. When you say assurance, you know, you mean, would the JJ Redick situation be something like that? Like, for instance, a guy who everyone questioned a hire when he comes in. If he comes from what it looks like maybe on the outside,
Starting point is 01:13:06 he comes in with a sure attitude of some, is that, like, kind of what you'd be speaking of? Yes, J.J. Reddick is going to coach the way he plays. he's arrogant he's confident he's prepared you know what i mean and he can make adjustments so he's not just a shooter you know what i mean and so when you look at the lakers and what he did with the lakers he just took his attitude right and said the lakers don't have an identity at the top every other coach has been trying to be cool with lebron not coached lebron Every coach has been trying to figure out who's team.
Starting point is 01:13:45 LeBron, Adi. Well, what the Lakers look like to me is a coach team. Ad, you're the man. LeBron, you're the greatest player of all time. The rest of you dudes are super talented. Here's your spots. Here's what you mean. Here's your spots.
Starting point is 01:14:06 Here's your freedom. And so you see Rui Hachamara being in a position where to be successful. Right. And so I give, I always say, like, I'm so excited about JJ Reddick because former players, right, that are in tune to the game are going to basically bring their personality and their expertise to, you know, any team is confidence. Look at that man.
Starting point is 01:14:35 At Anna Chana, Chuna, whatever that is, 963, since Raymond, what was your? your welcome to the league moment. Man, I had a couple welcome to the league moments. I think the one that stood out to me the most. The one that I remember the most is my first bucket.
Starting point is 01:14:57 I shot the three on Josh Smith. He didn't guard me. And I got a tech. First bucket. I started talking crazy to Josh Smith. That's my bucket. There's no way. There's no way.
Starting point is 01:15:12 I got a tech. That's my welcome to the lead. I'm going to be right there. First 2000, gone down the drain. Just like that. There's no one. Well, you are a bad baller.
Starting point is 01:15:26 You're a baller. There's no way. It's a man. Your first shot, you got, you hit a three and then got a track. Wow. I love you, bro. Smooth was talking crazy.
Starting point is 01:15:41 You were right here, bro. He was starting on. a rim like I wasn't going to shoot it. Guys, she might, you got to hear about that. I'm crying, you're sick dude. You're consistent, though, bro. Consistent.
Starting point is 01:15:59 You know what I mean? What you see is what you get. I still be trying to figure out how people were like, yo, something wrong. I've been the same way forever. Like, I just am who I am. I am who I am, man. Like, yo, something wrong with him today.
Starting point is 01:16:17 Don't apologize. No, I am who I am. You're not. By the way, I saw the black cat the other night, Mr. Michael Jordan himself a couple nights ago. Man. Trave told him, he's like, man, MJ upstairs. I said, MJ upstairs where? He's at the hotel and Port.
Starting point is 01:16:33 MJ upstairs. Oh, I want to talk to MJ. Went upstairs, talked to MJ. And MJ said, listen. be you. Don't you stop being you. Have fun. Be you.
Starting point is 01:16:48 Say no more. The goal has spoken. I'm a beat me. The goat has spoken. And guess what? His highness. Guess what? My first bucket getting into tech was hell of out of pocket,
Starting point is 01:17:01 which leads us to our hell out of pocket moment for the week. What do you know? Our hell out of pocket moment for the week is none other. than the Detroit Pistons having six players on the floor at one time. They hella out of pocket. It changes the momentum of the game.
Starting point is 01:17:21 It was a close game. That's hella out of pocket. I mean, this is my look to Detroit, are you serious? Hey, Doc. And they were about to throw the ball to the guy that was open in the corner. Hey, bro, you should have seen the four.
Starting point is 01:17:43 dude on the team they was playing. He went to the fifth dude, you know, the fifth dude went to the fifth man and he hesitated and he was like, hold on. Somebody opened in the corner. Come on, yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:58 Bro, they inbounded the ball. Bro, they inbounded the ball and brought the ball up court with six players. They hell out of pocket, man. They hell out of pocket.
Starting point is 01:18:13 Hell out of the park. Hell out of the park. We need Detroit to do better, man. We need the pistons to be good again, man. Please do that for us. Man, a shout out to you, the fans. We appreciate y'all. Tuning in for our first show to all y'all that tuned in.
Starting point is 01:18:30 Listen to your homies. It's DG and BD. Y'all listen to us earlier this week. We appreciate y'all. Please stay tuning in. And tell a friend, tell a friend. To tell a friend, come lock in. Until next time.
Starting point is 01:18:43 That's a wrap. The J-Mar Green Show. MBD! We are.
