Starting point is 00:02:34 We're listening to Fox Sports Radio. Ah, here we go on a Friday live in Los Angeles. This is the herd. Wherever you may be and however you may be listening. We're on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS 1 an hour from now. We don't really have a blazing five, but I'll tell you who I like in all four playoff games. Joy Taylor is joining me in a Friday. We're packed today, Moose Johnson of the Cowboys.
Starting point is 00:03:07 boys, Peter King, Albert Breer, Eric Dickerson. Joy, how are you? I'm great. The playoffs are here. Here we go. Hallelujah. Hallelujah. You know, it's interesting. I was looking this morning at, it's been, the last 10 to 15 years have been the era, certainly the decade of the dynasties. The Warriors had a dynasty for five years. Alabama's had it for 10 years. And the Patriots have had it for 20 years and they're all ending. They're all ending. Clemson is the new Bama. Golden State imploded.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Durant's not coming back. I mean, nothing wrong with Clay and Stefan Draymond. That's good. It's not special. Alabama's very good. They're not as special. Maylose Tua. Sabin's just hemorrhaging, really good assistant coaches and coordinators and New England's going to end. Maybe this weekend,
Starting point is 00:04:05 I suspect they'll win this week. But it's been interesting. Patriots 20, Bama 10, Warriors 5, they're all ending. Still be good, still be respected, won't be feared. You're never going to see this again. This has been the perfect storm. 20 years, nine Super Bowls, and six wins. Now, a lot of it is because Belichick's great and Brady is great. But there are breaks, and a lot of times, whether it's Facebook, it's Apple, it's Microsoft, it's Microsoft, it's Microsoft. There is a perfect storm that develops. And four or five things went New England's way. One, Bill Belichick, a brilliant coach with a chip on his shoulder after being fired in Cleveland, goes to New England. He then stumbles, let's be honest, stumbles into an equally aspirational quarterback named Tom Brady. Brady marries a supermodel who has a greater net worth allowing Tom, let's be a more. be honest, a humble kid anyway, to take some pay cuts, sprinkle the money around. They're in a
Starting point is 00:05:13 division with abject dysfunction, Buffalo, Jets, and Miami, which allows them 20 years. This is a break. 20 years of bad quarterbacks, mostly, bad coaches, bad GMs, weak ownership, home field advantage, and a buy to start the playoffs. And let's just throw this in. Mostly Tom Brady was injury-free. This is never going to happen again in football. Just to give you some context, Brady has 30 playoff wins. Lamar, Mahomes, Deshaun, Josh Allen, Tanna, he'll have a combined one. And in their careers, they won't get there because they won't have the breaks. So let's talk about three quarterbacks who we think have the talent and many of the components of Brady and who fell way short. Let's take Aaron Rogers. So Aaron Rogers ends up with one Super Bowl appearance
Starting point is 00:06:06 and only nine playoff wins. That is one quarter of Brady. He had injuries because he sat for three years. He didn't make big boy money until year seven in the NFL. He's not taking pay cuts. And his division was a little more competent. And he also had a head coach he never really connected with. So he ends up with less than a quarter of Tom Brady's career.
Starting point is 00:06:34 Let's go to Drew Breeze. First of all, they had a natural disaster. That was not an obstacle, which is remarkable in itself. But they only have one Super Bowl and eight playoff wins. So that's a quarter of Brady. Well, let's look at it. Breeze, bumpy career, came in, and when he got the chance to make Big Boy money, he took it.
Starting point is 00:07:00 And it hurt the franchise for years. It's also a much more competent division. Matt Ryan's competent. Ron Rivera and Cam got to a Super Bowl. Ball. Atlanta got to a Super Bowl. So much more competent division. Also, Drew had to rebuild a franchise. He really spent a lot of time twice rebuilding the franchise. Let's go to Peyton Manning, who ends up with roughly little less than half of Brady's accomplishments. Four Super Bowl appearances and 14 playoff wins. His division was actually fairly competent. He dealt with several
Starting point is 00:07:33 head coaches in Denver and Indianapolis. He had injuries at the end. and the Colts decided we're bailing and we're going to go with Andrew Luck. A lot of this stuff, we'll see another Alabama. It's called Clemson. We'll see another Golden State Warriors, you know, a four or five year run when stars combined. Could be the Lakers, could be the Clippers, who knows. You're not going to see New England again. I'm not saying in no way is skill, acumen, intelligence, focused, not part of it.
Starting point is 00:08:04 But man, they got some breaks. when you find the great dynasties, they always get breaks. Bad owners in the AFC East, bad quarterbacks, bad draft picks. And let's be honest. Brady and Belichick were equally non-nostalgic, equally focused. Tom was asked yesterday about all the records, and this is classic Brady. I'm not much much for nostalgia, you know. I'm just pretty focused on what I need to do.
Starting point is 00:08:38 And, you know, this week's felt pretty much like every other week for the last 20 years. I haven't thought about those things. And, you know, I wouldn't be thinking about those things anyway. You know, it's felt like a normal week for me. So I just approach practice like I always have and try to do the best I could do. So that's what I'm going to do this weekend as well. win or lose, we just came out. 2020 is a new year.
Starting point is 00:09:06 It's the end of the dynasties. Golden States evaporated. Bam is still good, not as good as Clemson. And New England may beat Tennessee, but if you think they're going to Kansas City and Baltimore and pulling off Ws there, it's not going to happen. Let me shift to the Cowboys coaching search. Jason Garrett has been interviewed several times.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Jerry Jones and Stephen Jones are treating Jason Garrett like anybody would treat family if you have to fire them, which is to say they're treating them well. You know, I was thinking about this this morning. The Lakers, the Yankees, and the Cowboys are the biggest American sports brands. But let's just concentrate on the Cowboys and the Lakers. These are very similar trajectories. These are family-owned businesses.
Starting point is 00:09:54 And the family, families don't like outsiders. Doesn't matter if it's Walmart, Sam Walton, it doesn't matter if it's that. Jerry Jones, this is a crucial hire. Because as we know, seven of the eight, and you can argue eight of the eight divisions this year, we're won by the head coach quarterback combo. That's the best. And now they're going to hire a coach, and nobody thinks DAC is a top five quarterback. This is a huge hire.
Starting point is 00:10:23 And if you look at what the Cowboy family, the Jones family, is done, They have briefly relinquished power, and it has worked both times. They relinquished power to Jimmy Johnson, but he was an outsider because Jimmy got famous before the Cowboys. And Bill Parcells was also invited in, but Bill Parcells made his money and got famous and had success before the Cowboys. They're outsiders. Chan Galey, Dave Campo, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett. They were elevated by the Cowboys brand. I mean, Dave Campbell, Wade Phillips, best jobs they've ever had.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Jason Garrett, best job he ever had. Chan, Galey, Barry, Switzer, that's the best job they've ever had. They're not a threat to Jerry Jones. Parcells and Jimmy Johnson were rock stars before Dallas. They're viewed as outsiders. This is the same thing for the Lakers. Pat Riley played for. for the Lakers. Jerry West played for the Lakers. Kobe is a Laker. Magic's a Laker. Phil Jackson was
Starting point is 00:11:30 an outsider. Phil Jackson got famous playing for the Knicks and got really famous coaching the Bulls. So Phil Jackson, even though he was within the family, like Jimmy Johnson and Parcells, is kind of an outsider. He never wore the Laker uniform. Well, Phil Jackson's a Laker. No, I actually, very many people think of him as a Bulls coach and as a next player. And I don't think as Parcells. I don't see him as a cowboy coach. I think Parcells, New York Giants. You think of Jimmy Johnson with the Dallas Cowboys. I think of him as much with the Miami Hurricanes when I was first introduced to him. And I also think about him living in the Keys and coaching the Dolphins. And so with both the Lakers, go look at who Jerry is hired
Starting point is 00:12:16 after he relinquished power. He went to people, Barry Changayley Campo, then after Parcells, Phillips, Jason Garrett, who didn't push back, who understood who ran the family. Parcells didn't give a rip about the family. Jimmy wasn't family. I mean, Jimmy and Jerry didn't talk much the first three years. Jimmy was doing football.
Starting point is 00:12:38 Jerry was, you know, he bought that cowboy team on credit. He was trying to make the business work. And then the minute Jimmy got to be a rock star, Jerry didn't like it. It's the same thing for the Lakers. They gave an outsider the power with Phil Jackson. Go look at who they've hired after Phil Jackson, people that needed them. Mike Brown, Mike Dantone, Frank Vogel, Byron Scott, people they're comfortable with. And so you may think Phil Jackson's a Laker and Bill's a cowboy and Jimmy's a cowboy.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Those people were rock stars before the organization and before the family was never comfortable They briefly gave up power to an outsider, and the outsider won and got a lot of credit, and the Lakers never loved that Phil Jackson got all that credit. They didn't like it. And the Cowboys and Jerry didn't like that Parcells, who rebuilt a messy franchise, and Jimmy Johnson got the credit. These are the big families in American sports, the Lakers and the Cowboys. And when they relinquish it, they win, but they don't like it because the brand's bigger than the title.
Starting point is 00:13:45 It really is. The Cowboys brand is big regardless of titles, and the Lakers brand is huge, regardless of titles. They don't like relinquishing power and any ownership, not just steak, but a feeling that Phil runs the Lakers and Jimmy runs the Cowboys. So I think this is a massive hire for the Cowboys, and I don't think Jerry Jones has it in him to hire Urban Meyer, who was a rock star long before the Cowboys. Lincoln Riley, Jerry can make him. He can mostly make him. Urban Meyer doesn't need Jerry Jones to be a rock star. His legacy on TV as a broadcaster, great and college football coach icon.
Starting point is 00:14:27 And I just don't think Jerry has the guts like the Lakers have struggled with to let an outsider in and be the face of the brand. Think he'd be the best higher. Don't think they have the guts. coming up next, I cannot believe the names I'm hearing with the Browns and why aren't we paying attention to the best job opening in the NFL that is ready tomorrow to win. That's coming up. And 45 minutes from now, tell you which games I like in the NFL, which sides I would take.

And we're still chasing it, and we don't know when we've done enough. Because people scoreboard watch. Life becomes about wins and losses. Steve Burns, Dustin Ross, because you find it important to be a good person while you hear on Earth? Are you a good person because you're afraid?
Starting point is 00:16:43 Because that's two different intentions, bro. Absolutely. And that's two different levels of trust. I want you to just really be a good person. Starting point is 00:18:21 Vick Synex nasal spray. Works in seconds. Last up to 12 hours. Cold and flu season here. Vic Synex nasal spray. Top of the hour, I'll give you my football picks for NFL games. I think Vegas mostly got the numbers right, but I'll tell you where I think the wise guys are going, what I like. You know, this is not, by the way, a shot at any of the report.
Starting point is 00:18:41 breaking these varied stories. But when I hear stuff like Cleveland Browns interested in Urban Meyer, yeah, and single guys are attracted to beautiful girls, of course Cleveland's interested in Urban Meyer. Cleveland Browns like Josh McDaniels. Yeah, he's been tied to a dynasty for a decade, I would imagine. Mike McCarthy on the Brown's radar. Yeah, he's got a Super Bowl. I would suspect that's true.
Starting point is 00:19:03 Listen, Cleveland's is a hazmat spill. Put caution tape around the franchise. In my career, I have on more than one of cases. told a broadcaster, this is the best word you can ever use. No. Don't do every job. Don't take every assignment. Don't fall in love with money. Track good management. Take jobs. Have discretion. Don't put yourself out there or look like a fool. Don't take a job because they offer you a nickel more than another place. Cleveland's a bad job. Romeo Cronnell is the only guy that's been given three years since like since Marty Schottenheimer in the 80s is the last guy that took a Cleveland
Starting point is 00:19:47 Brown job and is brand improved. Everybody else takes the job. It's a career ender. Josh McDaniels already been fired once. Mike McCarthy been fired once. You can't roll the dice on Cleveland. That's a terrible job. Now, if you're Robert Sala, you're not going to get another head coaching offer.
Starting point is 00:20:06 You could probably take it. If you're Kevin's Tafansky and you got passed over multiple times, you've only worked for the Vikings, maybe you take it. But I'm hearing a lot of this. Oh, the Browns are interested in. Folks, the most dysfunctional franchise in the NFL and the most dysfunctional college program is led by Jimmy Haslam. He's the number one booster of the volunteers, the Tennessee volunteers, who are the most underachieving, last 10 years, most underachieving college football power in the country. and the Browns are the most dysfunctional organization. This is a bad job.
Starting point is 00:20:41 This is just, you do not take this job if you're Josh McDaniels, because you know you're not going to get, and you're taking Baker Mayfield, who now isn't close to Lamar, isn't nearly as good as Big Ben, and if the Bengals draft Joe Burrow, you got the fourth most talented quarterback in your own division. So I'm seeing all these names with Cleveland. I'm like, yeah, of course Cleveland's attracted to all these people,
Starting point is 00:21:04 but Mike, everybody, oh, Mike McCart, listen, I get the attraction one way. Mike McCarthy could get the Giants job. I don't understand people that don't see the Giants being a really good job, non-meddling owner, franchise quarterback and a rookie deal. Dallas doesn't have that. Dax's going to get paid, star running back, and you have a number four pick. Now, Gettleman's terrible in front of a microphone. He's awful.
Starting point is 00:21:32 But he can draft okay. You know, he took Daniel Jones over Dwayne Haskins, y'all freaked out, and it looks like Daniel Jones is way better than Dwayne Haskin. So he's bad in front of a microphone, and he's only there for one more year, maybe more, maybe not. But this organization, to me, is ready to roll. That number four pick the Giants have is massive because the three teams after the Giants all want a quarterback, and all three could hop over the other and give the Giants multiple picks. Giants, to me, is a great organization. non-meddling owner.
Starting point is 00:22:04 They've won before. Rookie quarterback. Don't have to pay your quarterback for three more years. You have to pay them anything. And they really just need to rebuild their defense. Their offense is good enough to win a lot of games. They just need to upgrade the defense. This job, to me, feels like you've got everything in your eye.
Starting point is 00:22:22 You got the star running back, the franchise quarterback. O lines doesn't need to rebuild. It's not that bad. You've got some guys who can catch, nice young, tight end, good wide receivers. You just got to rebuild that. defensive front and with that four pick, you're either going to get a great defensive player or trade down a couple of picks and get multiple picks and figure out your defense. The Raiders figured out their offense in one draft.
Starting point is 00:22:44 You can do that. The Raiders went out and got Hunter Renfro and Jacobs and they got some offensive linemen in free agency. You can figure out one side of the ball in one draft and free agency period. Raiders did it with their offense. I think the Giants could do it with their defense. Joy with the news. Turn on the news.
Starting point is 00:23:03 This is the herd line news. Well, Ron Rivera is off to a controversial start in Washington. He is. He was introduced as the new Redskins head coach yesterday, and at his press conference, he explained the one thing he will focus on to turn the franchise around. Things will begin and end with one simple principle. Discipline.
Starting point is 00:23:23 I come from a military family where discipline, it isn't taught. It's lived. It's expected from day one. I have a philosophy that every player, every coach, everyone who works for this organization, they'll know it day one. You're not going to play for this team. You're not going to work for this team. If you don't have the discipline and commitment to give us everything you have, no exceptions, no excuses. It's that simple, guys.
Starting point is 00:23:50 We have to hold each other accountable. Well, reportedly, Rivera has already removed the ping pong table and the shuffle board tables from the locker room, which is what I'm talking about. I have no problem with that at all. Well, look, you know, it's always fun to debate stuff like this because it's like, does it matter? Does it not matter? Like, the giants have a ping pong table. They're kind of bad lately. But so do the Saints.
Starting point is 00:24:15 And they're not bad lately. So, I mean, lots of companies have, like, rec rooms where you can go and, like, you know, play video games for a couple minutes or play ping pong or pool or whatever. It's just, like, let off a little steam. I actually think it's nice that you're not in an environment. that's very, you know, stiff. How about this? You win me a ring and I'll give you a ping pong table. Look, I think it's fully based off your philosophy.
Starting point is 00:24:42 Obviously, Ron Rivera is coming in with the no-nonsense attitude. You can hear it there. But also, I do think that if it's in a situation like Washington, where it's been chaotic for pretty much decades, yeah, come in and this is how we do things. And like you said, earn your way into a little bit. of fun. But when we start out, it's not really about fun. When you walk in my house, you know the first thing you see in the left? A pool table.
Starting point is 00:25:09 My wife beat me three out of five games yesterday. So we played five games of pool last night at about nine of the night. Turn the music on. We were cranking the music, playing pool, having a cocktail at 9.50 to night. I would not have guessed that you had a pool table on your house. Well, the way my house works, there's a space in my house to the left of the door where I'm not, I don't want to be fake piano guy. Those are such a cliche. Like there's just Hey, a piano that nobody plays. It's like so fake. And so like we wanted to make sure that we could keep people engaged.
Starting point is 00:25:38 We have a great first floor. So put a pool table. So when kids are over there playing it and they're standing around, it's just it's far removed from the kitchen, but you can hear it from the kitchen and say, hey, you want something to eat. So in our first floor, we have a pool table and we played it all the time. It's a weird.
Starting point is 00:25:53 It sounds like if you saw our house, Goulet, have you been there yet? Have you broken in yet? No, I never got the invite, surprisingly. Yeah, I got a pool table of the left. But again, we've got Super Bowls at our house, so we're allowed to have one. That's it. Oh, okay.
Starting point is 00:26:05 Well, yeah. I mean, look, you know, work hard, play hard. I guess that's the mentality Ron Rivera has. You've got to work first. So Dalvin Cook missed the Vikings' final two games of the season with a shoulder injury. He is set to return Sunday against the Saints, but he insists there was never a chance that the injury would keep him from the playoffs. I knew what my goal was to be ready for the playoffs. I don't have been there before.
Starting point is 00:26:26 I know. I ain't looking that's going to hold me out. Just get healthy, get strong, and get back on the field. I definitely feel refreshed. I won't put a percentage on it. I would have a percentage. I'd be out there on Sunday, though. So I'm going to be ready to go.
Starting point is 00:26:42 I'm going to be at full of sprint. And, you know, I'm looking for a good football game. So if he plays, they're good. The Saints are seven and a half point favorites right now, according to Fox Bet. And he's saying he's going to be back. Now, is he going to be at full strength? That I don't know.
Starting point is 00:26:59 because he did miss the last two weeks with a shoulder injury. But they are a different team when he. Oh, there's no question. I think Vegas got the number right. This is not, this is one of my picks I'll have. But I think it's going to be if Dalvin Cook plays, Saints are in for a big boy fight. It's a real game.
Starting point is 00:27:18 I agree. I still like the Saints in this game. But Dalvin Cook is the one factor for the I've not been very high on the Vikings all year, but he is the one factor to me that that changes things for the Vikings. He is as good Annie back in the NFL. Yeah, great news from Minnesota. Finally, Philip Rivers has made it clear that he plans return for a 17th NFL season. He'll be a free agent in March and his future with the charges is a bit uncertain.
Starting point is 00:27:45 But GM Tom Telesco thinks Rivers still has a lot of football left in him. I think he can still compete at a top starter level. I think in a perfect world, number of 17th is your quarterback forever. Hopefully I'm not offending Dan Fouts when I say that. But I mean, he's meant everything to this organization. He also spoke very glowingly of Anthony Lynn. I love our head coach. There's nobody else that I want to go into battle with.
Starting point is 00:28:12 Then Lynn. And he also said he hopes to get Rivers contract sorted out before the free agency starts. So. I think those things you have to say in sports. I think if you run the chargers, you have to give Philip Rivers a lot of love because he's been there for you for 15 years, but I don't think there's any question. An older unathletic quarterback, Eli Manning,
Starting point is 00:28:32 Philip Rivers is, as a general manager, it's career trouble. You can't be that unathletic and old. You know, you can be old like Drew, but you can't be unathletic and mistake prone, and that's what Philip is. The bad three.
Starting point is 00:28:46 Old, unathletic, mistake prone, you got to move on. I agree with you, but, I mean... I think he's saying things he has to say. You think he's saying he has to say? I think there's all, I think all the sorts of things. You ever go to a Christmas party? Oh, it's great seeing you.
Starting point is 00:29:01 Hope we, hey, give me your number. What connect later this year? I mean, I think there's ways you can say things that are glowingly, glowing and not that exaggerated. What if he has said he runs like a batting cage and throws the worst picks in the league? You can say, look, like we love all of our players, but we didn't have a successful season. And anytime we don't have a successful season, we have to make choices and move forward accordingly. That feels controversial to me. There's nothing controversial. We're all
Starting point is 00:29:28 watching the same game, right? I know. We're all seeing the same thing. There's nothing controversial about saying that we need to be better. Philip was crying on a microphone three days ago. I know. He made me cry. But like, I mean... Got a tiptoe. He's got tiptoe around stuff.
Starting point is 00:29:45 He does not have a tiptoe. I totally disagree. I don't know. I think he had me convinced they're going to keep him. I mean, you want Telesco to say, listen, I can outrun him and he throws more picks than Baker Mayfield. We're totally happy. The main way is he could have said something that wasn't like exaggerated to the point that we want to keep Philip Rivers as our quarterback forever. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:30:05 I'm reading too far into it. All right. Joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Ly News. He was a Patriot beatwriter for the Boston Globe and a cowboy beatwriter for the great Dallas morning news. He's now at Monday Morning Quarterback via the Coward Global Satellite Network. A lot of job openings.
Starting point is 00:30:21 Albert Breer is joining us. All right, you covered the Cowboys. I said this to start my show. Phil Jackson felt like a Laker, but he was an outsider because he was a rock star with the Knicks and the Bulls as a coach before the Lakers. Pat Riley and Jerry West were Lakers. They played for him. And so they never, the Lakers, even when they were winning, Phil got too much credit. And when Phil left, they hired a bunch of people, you know, the Mike Browns that need the Lakers.
Starting point is 00:30:51 Jerry Jones. Jimmy Johnson was a rock star before Dallas. So was Parcell. So when they won, they were still a little bit of outsiders. Jerry wins with outsiders, Albert, but I'm not sure he's comfortable like the Lakers with outsiders being the face of the franchise. I think Urban Meyer's a good fit, but I don't think he'd roll the dice here. Do you?
Starting point is 00:31:15 I think Urban Meyer's not going to coach in 2020. And that's after going back and forth on this a little bit. you know, my sense, you know, coming out of that camp has been, but he's happy with what he's doing. He's found a place for, to kind of satisfy his competitive juices and head-to-head that your network has with the SPN on the pregame. But I do think that he likes to listen to these sorts of things. And I do think the idea of Dallas, the idea of even Cleveland,
Starting point is 00:31:42 does appeal to him at some level. And so, you know, I think he's of a mind to listen to these sorts of things, but I don't think that he's going to coach in 2020. I do, however, think that Jerry Jones will look at the college level whenever the Jason Garrett thing goes down. And by the way, the weight on Jason Garrett is mostly decency. It feels like this is how you would treat somebody you deeply care about, right? It's not, you know, there's a lot of speculation on their dancing around. They're just trying to be nice here, right?
Starting point is 00:32:09 Well, and you got to remember how deeply invested Jerry Jones is and Jason Garrett. I mean, this is the guy who as a backup quarterback in the late 90s was allowed to go into coaching meetings. because Jerry knew that Jason wanted to coach after he was done playing. The same guy that he hired his offensive coordinator in 2007, before he'd even hired Wade Phillips' head coach. Same guy in 2008, he made one of the highest paid coordinators in league history and actually wound up paying more than his head coach, more than Wade Phillips was making Ben.
Starting point is 00:32:38 And then he promoted him when he had fired his boss. And so I think one thing that's difficult about this for Jerry Jones, for Stephen Jones, for the entire Jones family, This is the guy they've invested 25 years into making the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, and that's why it's so hard for them to separate here. This isn't just Jason Garrett's failure. It's also Jerry Jones's failure. From my perspective, the giant is the most attractive job on the market.
Starting point is 00:33:02 I've got, unlike the Cowboys, a young quarterback on a rookie contract for three years, non-meddling owner, superstar running back. I got Dave Gettlement, who's bad in front of the mic, but it has shown an ability with Carolina and New York to spot talent early in the draft. They've got to kind of correct one side of the football, the defensive front. You can do that in one off season. I think the Giants is a wildly attractive job. Do you?
Starting point is 00:33:29 I think it's going to boil down to whether or not they're willing to update some of the things that they've been doing. And I'm not just talking over the last three or four years. I'm talking about over the last 30 or 40 years. And I know that some of the prime candidates on the market have communicated to them over the last couple of months through intermediaries, that there are just too many people in the building who've been in their job for 20 and 30 years. And what was once seen as stable has now become sort of stale. And so I think that the Marrars have listened to that. And I think the Marrars are willing to change some of the things they do, maybe deepen their analytics department a little bit,
Starting point is 00:34:03 get some new blood in the building. But I think that's going to be the key to the attractiveness of the job is how much, how far are you willing to go to modernize certain aspects of the organization? I also think that that's going to be the key to landing, who I believe is the number one guy in their list, and that's the coach at Baylor, Matt Rule. Rule understands what that building is. He's from there. He worked there in 2012.
Starting point is 00:34:25 And I can tell you, he's one of these guys who's gotten the word to the giants that if he's going to go there, they need to update a few things. All right. Is there, I mean, I hear a bunch of names for Cleveland, Carolina. Is there a dark horse candidate with the Browns? Because I don't think Josh McDaniels would take it. a little bit of a hazmat spill, a caution tape job that, you know, if you get fired again, Josh, this, I don't think Josh McDaniels is going to put his career in Jimmy Haslam. Is there a dark horse candidate?
Starting point is 00:34:54 Yeah. I would stop you on that one. Like, I think Josh McDaniels would go there under the right circumstances. He's from there. He likes the quarterback. He does like Baker Mayfield. And so I think in both Cleveland and Carolina, Josh McDaniels would jump if the right circumstances presented. themselves. And I think that's all about having the right people in place around him. I don't think
Starting point is 00:35:15 this is about personnel control. In fact, I can tell you when he left Indianapolis two years ago at the altar, that had zero. And I'm going to repeat that again, zero to do personnel control. It had to do a control over things like medical, like strength and conditioning, like training, like video. All that stuff the fans don't care about. He needs to have that stuff right. And so I think it's going to be about having people around him that he trusts and a structure that works for him. And so I think he is of a mind. He has put together a staff to go to Cleveland or Carolina. The circumstances would have to be right. As for a dark horse candidate in Cleveland, he's not a dark horse anymore. Enough people have mentioned it. But Paul D. Podesta is going to be
Starting point is 00:35:50 running the process for the Browns. He's not going to be picking the coach, but he's going to be running the process for them. That process landed the Browns on Kevin Stifansky, the Vikings' offensive coordinator last year. So Stifansky would be a name to watch there. Those are the two that I think I would really kind of keep an eye on here would be Stifansky and McDaniel. The New England Patriots are a team you have covered closely. And I said the Warriors had a five-year dynasty. Bama had a 10-year dynasty, and the Patriots had a 20, and they all feel like they're coming to a close.
Starting point is 00:36:20 I don't think it's hyperbolic. I don't see them as dynamic enough. I think they've whiffed on some picks. I think their culture and style offensively is a tad rigid for young players. I could see them losing this weekend. What is the vibe around this 20-year dynasty today? Well, I mean, I think you've seen the last couple of years where some people have gone out the door. Josh almost left last year, or two years ago. Last year, you had Brian Flores taking a fleet of coaching assistance with him, right? So Bill Belichick had to rework the defensive side of his coaching staff. You could lose Josh McDaniels this year. Nick Casario is up. Their college scouting director, Monty Austin Ford is up. There is that feeling that this might be the last iteration of Patriots 2.0 and that there could be a bunch of people. leaving there at once. Last year you had the
Starting point is 00:37:08 exodus on the coaching side. This year I think you could have a bit of an exodus on the on the scouting side. It just feels like there are drips and drabs over the last couple of years of people leaving. Of course, the big name to watch going forward into the 2020 off season will be Tom Brady,
Starting point is 00:37:25 but certainly is feeling like this iteration of Patriots is coming to an end. And then the question becomes, where is Bill Belichick out for the reboot going into what could be Patriot 3.0, which likely wouldn't include Tom Brady, at least for the long term. Good stuff. Thanks. We appreciate it, Albert, Albert Breer. Thank you very much. I think it's really interesting. He talked about
Starting point is 00:37:47 scouting. The Patriots scouting department, it's very interesting. Bill gives you, Bill reportedly, in January, shuts out the scouts. You do all the work, and in January, Bill says, thanks, appreciate it, and kind of takes over the draft with Nick Sezario. They don't use scouts as much. I've heard that from multiple sources. People that have worked inside the bill. It's not scout friendly. It's Bill friendly. So it's not a place that if you want to really have an impact as a scout, when he says some scouts,
Starting point is 00:38:15 drib, drab are kind of moving out of the organization. It's never been seen as scout friendly. It's pretty much Belichick's organization. He runs everything. By January, he's like, thanks for all your work. I'll take it from here. That's not the way the Seahawks worked. They're getting information from scouts five minutes before the draft starts
Starting point is 00:38:32 on Thursday in late April. So, you know, I just, I don't necessarily think Alibald. and New England have been great for their respective sports. I think they're kind of system-based, culture-based, detail-oriented, process-centric dynasties that have been kind of boring. I think Golden State was great for the league. Stars, egos, conflict, wins, injuries, almost lost. I think Golden State was a great dynasty, and it didn't last very long.
Starting point is 00:39:00 By the time you were over it, it broke up. I think New England and Alabama, I think somebody knew in college football would be great, and I think somebody knew in the NFL, like Baltimore or Kansas City, would be great dominating the AFC. The Patriots in Alabama, I had great respect for, but I don't think they're, not all dynasties are the same.
Starting point is 00:39:18 The Spurs dynasty was Duncan was boring. That was a boring dynasty. I mean, it really was. Joe Montana was not a boring dynasty. That was a great, the Dallas Cowboys with Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer was not a boring dynasty. The Healds were not boring.
Starting point is 00:39:32 Spurs were. I think New England is getting to a point now. process, you know, do your job. You know, we're all kind of over it. Coming up next, why football, Saints and LSU football, why football has a hold of our heartstrings. And Louisiana really wraps it up. That's coming up next.

It's called Geico, G-E-I-C-O-G-E-C-C-O-G-C-C-C-com. 15 minute, say 15% top of the hour. I'll give you my picks here on a Friday as we head into the wild card weekend. I think Vegas mostly got the lines right. All these teams are flawed. That's why they're playing in the wildcard weekend. Buffalo's got a ceiling offensively and New England can't beat you over the top. And New Orleans lost at home to San Francisco and Minnesota. Kirk Cousins can just not show up in big games. And the Houston Texans were out game this year and yet won their division. All these teams have flaws.
Starting point is 00:44:09 Philadelphia can't beat you down the field. They're not very fast. They're slow on the perimeter. In Seattle had cluster injuries to end the year. And a lot of people think they're kind of fake anyway because they won, but they win all their games by a field goal or less than a touchdown. So these are flawed football teams this weekend. Most are not terribly explosive. One or two are.
Starting point is 00:44:30 I want to talk about we're about a month away from something very unique happening. If LSU beats Clemson a week from Monday and their favorite, and the Saints win the Super Bowl, and that would not be shocking to anybody because they have home field until they would have to go to San Francisco, the national champion and the Super Bowl champion would be in one small state, Louisiana, with a population a little bit over 4 million people.
Starting point is 00:45:00 It doesn't drive the American economy. It's not centrally located. They like fun food and football, and they do it well. you'd have to go back to the 50s when the Cleveland Browns and the mid-50s won the Super Bowl. Yes, at one point they did, and the Ohio State Buckeyes won the national championship in that same year. It was 1954. It hasn't happened in half a century, right? More than half a century.
Starting point is 00:45:24 But one of the reasons football is king in this country, and, oh, you can bet on it. Well, you could, you know, you could bet on football forever. They were betting on football in Hoboken, New Jersey long before it was legalized in the Supreme Court. Well, there's only one game a week. There's only been one football game a week my entire life. One of the reasons the NFL has separated from baseball and separated from the NBA. And one of the reasons right now, statistically, the NFL and college football are won two in this country, according to TV ratings. Because if you want to win, you will win.
Starting point is 00:45:58 There are no roadblocks. In Major League Baseball, the Oakland A's can be brilliantly run. They just don't have the money. The Yankees can pay more to one. pitcher than they can pay to their entire infield. In the NBA, you can be brilliantly run and incredibly passionate, like the Utah Jazz,
Starting point is 00:46:15 but free agents don't want to play there. Same with Memphis, Oklahoma City. But in the NFL, none of that matters. Well-run equals titles. The Colts have them. Small market Green Bay has multiple, and so do the Saints.
Starting point is 00:46:30 And you couldn't find Clemson on a map if you tried. Football is the one sport, of hope. That if you want to win, you will win. There's no glitz and glamour obstacles. There's no geography obstacles. There's
Starting point is 00:46:46 no economic obstacles. Right now, Alabama and Auburn in the same state are a thousand times better than UCLA and USC and Los Angeles and California has the fifth biggest economy
Starting point is 00:47:01 in the world. There's 209 countries. California is five. It's just a state, one of 50. But the passion in Los Angeles is for the beach, is for recreation, is for tech, is for Hollywood, is for a million things. Not for college football. In Louisiana, Saints 1, LSU 1A, Alabama, the same thing. Football is the sport where market size doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:47:35 currently in the NFL. The two New York teams, kind of a mess. One L.A. team needs to find a quarterback. The other L.A. team won't be honest about their star running back. Chicago, bears, can't be honest about
Starting point is 00:47:51 Mitch Trubisky. Dallas is really wealthy. Won't make the playoffs. Look around who's in the playoffs in the NFL. Buffalo, Nashville, Nashville, New Orleans, Green Bay, geographically isolated Seattle. Seattle couldn't even keep their NBA team. Vancouver had it and lost it. Why? Players didn't want to play there. If you want it in football,
Starting point is 00:48:16 you will win. The Utah Jazz should be the Green Bay Packers with multiple titles. The Memphis Grizzlies should end up being the Saints or the Colts. But just think, 1950s Browns and Ohio State, in the next month, we could have the Saints and LSU as the college and professional champions in the most popular sport in America. And it comes down to one thing. It's not money. It's not glitz. It's not fame.
Starting point is 00:48:45 It's not cash. It's, man, they want it. They wake up fun food football and faith. That's what matters. The four Fs. Fun food, football, faith. That's what matters in Louisiana. You could add a fifth family.
Starting point is 00:49:00 That's what the state is. Fun food, football, faith, family. That's what they care about. If you care, if you want it, you'll win it. No obstacles in football, collegiate or professional. All right, I'm going to give you my picks to start next hour. If the Saints, did I say the Saints would go to Green, there are three, they'd go to Green Bay or San Francisco.
Starting point is 00:49:22 My bad on that. Well, that'll be okay. Boy, that'd be a good game. Rogers, Breeze, and Green Bay. I'd pay for that. I'd pay for that. I'd take a stage coach out there for it. that one. That would be very, very good.

Wherever you may be and however you may be listening. We're live on IHeart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1.
Starting point is 00:53:55 Everybody wants me to discuss my New Year's resolution on Instagram. Yeah, I mean, well, because you're not saying what it is, it's stirring a bit of intrigue as to what it is. After the show today, I'm going to announce what my New Year's resolution is on the Instagram, only on the Instagram. The Instagram. I mean, I think you should. Again, I feel like it's a lifestyle change that you're trying to go for.
Starting point is 00:54:24 So far, I've had one minor, tiny slip-up feel very good about the direction I am headed in 2020. And this is like for life. This is what you're trying to do. This is a new me. I think I had my son complain about it about a month ago and I was like, no, he doesn't complain much. He's not very needy.
Starting point is 00:54:43 He complained about it. Okay. So I was assuming that it had something to do with the kids. Yeah. He said, watch it, dad. Watch it. And I was like, oh, okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:52 All right. Listen, I don't have those problems. You know, I don't. I mean, I don't, I can't, after you reveal it, then we'll discuss. Because if I keep talking about it, I'm going to tell everyone what it is. Okay, you can come on my Instagram with me if you like. How long can the Instagram post go? Very long, because you can do Instagram TV.
Starting point is 00:55:09 But for the purpose of this reveal, two minutes. Three. I mean, whatever you like. All right, after the show. Okay, we'll do it. All right. You know, during the year I do Blazing Five, but in the Blazing Five, I've got 15, 16 games to pick from and I pick five. There's only one game here.
Starting point is 00:55:26 Maybe two I would actually bet. I only have four games on the docket. There's one, I think, is a pretty good bet. Outside of that, I'm just going to tell you who I think is going to win the games. I like two favorites this weekend, and I like two underdogs to win outright this weekend. So let's not waste any time and get to the picks for our wild card weekend. Listen, I would take the underdog Buffalo Bills to win this. I think they're going to win it straight out.
Starting point is 00:55:52 I think coaching matters in the playoffs, and I think they have the better coaching step. Now, Bill O'Brien's not a bad coach because you're going to win. You can't keep winning your division, and they do with a bad coach. But the Texans have been outgain this year. They remind me of a really talented flag football team where you never know what you're going to get. They can be totally outplayed, but because their quarterback and wide receivers are so gifted, they make crap up and win.
Starting point is 00:56:15 But the bills have one of the better defenses in the NFL. They do not give up cheap touchdowns, and Houston lives off cheap touchdowns. And the Buffalo Bills don't give them up. Their defense, number two in total defense, number two in scoring defense. Also, Josh Allen, if you worry about him, the young quarterback for Buffalo, bizarrely better on the road this year, much better on the road than he was at home. I'm going to take Buffalo to win the game straight out, regardless of points, 24, 23 bills. Titans at Patriots.
Starting point is 00:56:46 I like New England to win the football game. Listen, first of all, they're undefeated this year when they hold people under 20. And Ryan Tannehill, in his career, has faced the Patriots and Belmont. Belichick a lot. He's been awful. Belichick destroys average quarterbacks. And most of Tannahill's career, forget the last two months, he's been average. He's 0 and 6 at Foxborough, five touchdowns, 10 picks, and a passer rating of 70. Tannahill has been eaten alive by Belichick. And I do think Tennessee here has better offensive personnel by a stretch.
Starting point is 00:57:25 But believe me, Belichick knows Tama. He knows Vrable. And New England, special teams are still great. Defense is still excellent. Home, they're great. They're excellent situationally. They're brilliantly coached. And Brady can still muster up if he doesn't face a great pass rush.
Starting point is 00:57:41 Very good halves of football. I think the Patriots win this puppy. It's kind of classic New England. They'll get a fumble or two. They'll block a punt. 2724 Patriots. Vikings and Saints. Listen, everybody likes the Saints.
Starting point is 00:57:56 So do I. wise guys like Minnesota and the points. I just think New Orleans wins by more than a touchdown. It's a Kirk Cousins factor. Now, if Delvin Cook plays, Minnesota can take the ball and play a little bit of keep away. But I think the Saints defense is better than everybody thinks. We know their offense is great. They're averaging 34 points of game since week 11.
Starting point is 00:58:18 You know, they have Mike Thomas is a guaranteed 12 targets and nine catches a game. Drew Brees in the last four games, 15 touchdowns, no picks. They have one of the great home field advantages, and they don't turn it over. Unlike the Texans, you get the upside without the goofiness. Only eight turnovers, the fewest in the NFL. And let's be honest, Minnesota's been good my entire life. Do you trust the Vikings in big spots? They haven't won a road playoff game since 2005.
Starting point is 00:58:45 There are moments they've outplayed teams at home like the Seahawks years ago, and they can't kick a 15-yard field goal. I just don't trust. I have an all year. I do not trust them in this spot. So I'm going to take the Saints to win around the number 28 to 20. Seahawks and Eagles. This is the toughest game for me.
Starting point is 00:59:06 This is the one, you know, Philadelphia is getting points. I think Philadelphia is going to win a very close football game. They're both falling apart physically. I get two great quarterbacks and two excellent coaches. Carson Wentz has carried this franchise. Now, some people say, well, has Carson Wins ever played a playoff game? The last three weeks have felt like a playoff game. Seattle travels very well.
Starting point is 00:59:27 But the last, if you go look at Russell Wilson, he's lost his last three road playoff games. I just don't think Seattle against this Philadelphia defensive front is going to muster a consistent offense. And they're going to be kind of beholden for Russell Wilson to save them. I think he's going to be under duress all weekend. Philadelphia is a very limited offensive football team. They can kind of win one way. But Wents is hot. Philadelphia is at home.
Starting point is 00:59:56 They have a major advantage defensive line to Seahawks' offensive line. They're beat up, but they feel less beat up today than they were a month ago. I would take Philadelphia in overtime. I actually think this is going to be the game of the weekend to watch. I think this is going to be a great football game. Classic, tough, great coaches, great quarterback play. 26, 23, Philadelphia in overtime wins the game. And those are my pick.
Starting point is 01:00:21 So I take the dog Buffalo Bills to win on the road. the dog, Eagles to win at home. And I think the Saints and the, I mean, you're going to have an upset here. You're not going to have four favorites win. It never works that way. So there you have it. I do think New England's fascinating because I think they've been a dynasty for 20 years, and I think it's going to end.
Starting point is 01:00:39 I think they'll win this weekend. And I think there's just younger teams that draft better with more dynamic quarterbacks. But, you know, it's funny about dynasties. And I talked an hour ago about how the Warriors had one for five years, Bama for 10, New England. for 20 and they're all ending. They're all, their last decade was the decade of dynasties. This decade,
Starting point is 01:01:00 Serena's not as dominant, Federer's not as dominant. It feels like a lot of dynasties are ending. You know, and Brady was asked going into this weekend if he wanted to talk and romanticize the past. I'm not much for nostalgia. You know, I'm,
Starting point is 01:01:15 you know, I'm just pretty focused on what I need to do. And, you know, it's, this week's felt pretty much like every other week for the last 20 years. I haven't thought about those things, and I wouldn't be thinking about those things anyway. You know, it's felt like a normal week for me.
Starting point is 01:01:34 So I just approach practice like I always have and try to do the best I could do. So that's what I'm going to do this weekend as well. You know, it's funny about if you look at dynasties. I look at dynasties in sports the same way I look at wealth and business. boring wins. Somebody once told me this about the wealthiest Americans. They said there's a reason artists aren't billionaires because they have to recreate great.
Starting point is 01:02:03 Billionaires create a product, put it in a conveyor belt and sell it over and over repetition, rinse and repeats. Boring. Wealth is boring. Create a product and sell it over and over the same product. That's what Apple does. Zuckerberg does. That's what you do. If you go look at the dynasties and the people who have led them over the last 20 years. Belichick Saban, Popovich, Jeter, Brady, Tim Duncan.
Starting point is 01:02:27 And I would say Steph Curry is an NBA star. It's kind of boring. Not his game, but family guy wears nurses' shoes, loves to golf. Really, you never see him getting in trouble. Boring the ability to be repetitive, go to bed early, be turned on by process, love information. that's what wins. That is Duncan. That's Popovich. That's Sabin. That's Belichick. That's Jeter. That's Brady. That's Steph Curry. You know, you say, well, Jeter was a single guy and Curry is game. But they're really into process. They're really into their pregame, their rituals, their diet, how they live, how they eat. And, you know, it's the more lit you are, the less, because I'll tell you what blows up dynasties. Flakes. Kevin Durant. It's a flake. He's talented, but he's a flake. Egos. Jerry Jones.
Starting point is 01:03:18 Kobe and Shaq. That blows up dynasties. And, you know, I never forget, you know, Belichick and Brady, they're what I would call process guys. They get up early. They're not late night guys. They love watching film, breaking down stuff. And wealth and dynasties, you may think on the outside, you may think they're just fascinating and flashy and their ego. You go look at the Chicago Bulls.
Starting point is 01:03:46 Michael Jordan was lifting weights, regardless of cocktails, every morning of game days. Eight in the morning, he was in the gym. Didn't matter how lady stayed out. Nobody worked harder than Chicago. Nobody had tougher practices. Nobody was more physical. They'd play their cards on the private jets. They had wild off seasons.
Starting point is 01:04:06 But in season, they were complete process-driven, rinse-and-repeat grinders. Never forget that Tom versus Time video where Tom and the time video where Tom and the off-season. This is the off-season. Married to a supermodel, 800 million net worth. And here's Tom and Tom versus time. I watch tape all day, Monday, all day, Tuesday. You know, Wednesday we practice, Thursday we practice, Friday we practice, and I come home and I watch film. And Saturday before the game, I watch film. And then Sunday morning, I watch film. And the whole time, I'm just trying to get tells. I don't know why I can sit here
Starting point is 01:04:38 and watch it and, you know, process information quickly, but I can. I mean, I could literally, like, just watch film all day. It's almost like soothing because I've been doing it for so long. I can just go four or five hours without getting up from this chair. That is what creates wealth and dynasties. The ability to just sit there and be boring and be in the information and process. And remember that movie? It wasn't the Wolf of Wall Street.
Starting point is 01:05:07 It was the other one, the Michael Lewis book, The Big Short, where they found the guy that bet against the market. And he just sat at his computer all day. and he didn't have a social life. And he, I mean, it was just, you just, you know, everybody's going to dinners on Wall Street. And, oh, there's, and he was just sitting all day in his computer. And he goes, oh, this, this economy is a total fraud. The banks are fraudulent.
Starting point is 01:05:30 None of this stuff works. It doesn't make any sense. It was the process guy with no social life that basically made zillions of dollars in 2008 when the market crash. Michael Lewis wrote the book on it. So there's something to me very attractive to this kind of lifestyle. Well, sustained success is very boring. Not to the... A one-head wonder, like, that can happen, and it's fun and it's exciting and then go it again.
Starting point is 01:05:57 I'll give you an example. You've heard of the band Kiss? Yes. So Kiss has been around since the 70s. Right. So Gene Simmons, and what's the other guy? Paul Stanley, they're the remaining two members of Kiss. Right.
Starting point is 01:06:10 So I had a buddy going on one of their concerts. They both make 30, 40 million bucks a year still. They bought the other members out. because the other members were partiers and fun and got into drugs, so they bought him out. Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons of Kiss. So I had a buddy that was on their private jet. It's a long story, but he does business with their restaurants. So like once a year, he goes on the jet when Kiss, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons do it.
Starting point is 01:06:33 They fly in the day of the concert. They land, get makeup on perform. The minute they get off, they put them in robes. They take the makeup off. They take the robe off. They walk on the jet. And within five minutes, they create them. cross their arms and Stanley and Gene Simmons are asleep.
Starting point is 01:06:49 And then they land and they drive an SUV home to their families. And they do this 60 times a year and make $40 million. And I said, I said, what was it like? He goes, I wanted to party with him. He goes, they don't party. It's just business. It's fly makeup, robe, make up, sign 10 autographs,
Starting point is 01:07:08 fall asleep in a jet, picked up at the airport, in bed by 3 in the morning. You mean you can't party until 5 a.m. until you're 70 and sustain that. Yeah, the bands do that. Yeah, bands do that. You know, Gene Simmons was trending recently because he revealed that he puts ice cream, or not ice cream, ice cubes in his cereal.
Starting point is 01:07:22 To keep the milk cold. What, you say that, but it's like a normal thing. I've done that before, yeah. I put ice cubes in my cereal. Well, it's not that strange. It keeps the milk cold. How long are you eating the cereal that the milk gets warm? Well, I take my time with my cereal.
Starting point is 01:07:38 You put ice creams in your cereal. I don't do it regularly, but I've done it before. Your New Year's resolution should be. to stop doing that. Yeah, I didn't think it was that strange. Yeah, I mean, that's, yeah. You want to milk cold. It, it fortifies the cereal.
Starting point is 01:07:53 I mean, how long does it take you to eat a bowl of cereal that your milk gets warm? Well, I take my time with cereal. I enjoy cocoa puffs for a good 20 minutes. I don't know. I guess it shouldn't be judging. I like mushy cereal. Yeah, I don't. I like mine formidable.

Starting point is 01:11:33 storylines ahead of the big tournament here in the USA. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I was saying it's been the decade of dynasties. The Warriors for five years, Alabama for 10 and the Patriots for 10 plus. And I think all the dynasties are ending. Federer, Serena, the Warriors imploded. Clemson's the new Alabama. And I think New England's is ending. It may not end this weekend. But, you know, they've lost some very good coaches. I don't think they've drafted particularly well. I think their culture offensively is a little rigid for young receivers to be implemented and flourish immediately.
Starting point is 01:12:18 And frankly, I think Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Deshawn Watson are so dynamic that the legislation, the rules of the game are changing. And it's time. And I just, I don't think New England has much legs left. And I also do not think it's crazy, not to be hyperbolic. I wouldn't be shocked if Brady didn't play there next year. I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up with the Colts who are absolutely going to draft a quarterback this year or next.
Starting point is 01:12:42 I wouldn't not, because he wants to go to a good offensive line. and a good GM and a good coach. I would not be shocked if he went to the Chargers. In both instances with the Colts and the Chargers, he knows the AFC defensive coordinators, he knows the landscape, they have much better skill people. Colts are tight end friendly.
Starting point is 01:13:01 Chargers have a real running game and wide receiver and a great young GM. So I think it's ending. Most of them end gradually, not abruptly. The Warriors are the exception due to Kevin Durant bolting and major unforeseen injuries, With that, we bring in Peter King at NBCSports.com via the Coward Global Satellite Network. I don't think I'm being hyperbolic.
Starting point is 01:13:22 It kind of feels like the end. They'll still be good. They won't be feared. I don't think New England's as feared as previous times. What are your thoughts on that, Peter? You know, Colin, as I wrote my column this week, I don't think this is the end of the New England Patriots, but I do think it's the end of something in New England. We just don't know yet.
Starting point is 01:13:44 will Josh McDaniels go, the offensive coordinator who has Tom Brady's undying trust, maybe. Will Tom Brady go? Maybe. Will Bill Belichick go doubtful? But look, nobody knows anything about Bill Belichick's contract or his future because he just never talks about it. I don't think he talks about it to anybody, probably other than his wife. He just is very, very quiet about all that stuff. So something's going to end in New England.
Starting point is 01:14:15 I just don't know what it is. Yeah. You know, it's funny. I talked about this yesterday. When Peyton Manning left, he had a lot of suitors. And if you remember this, Peter, he wanted, he went to Denver, had good ownership, had won Super Bowls. They had a nice offensive line and they had some weapons. And, I mean, Seattle wanted him, San Francisco, a lot of smart people.
Starting point is 01:14:38 I could see Tom looking at Chris Ballard, Frank Reich, that young offensive. line, multiple tight ends. I could see Tom saying, I want to stay in the AFC, it's indoors. I don't want to get hit as much. I don't think that's crazy. I don't think that's a hot take. When I say to you, by the way, I know you and I
Starting point is 01:14:57 both know, the Colts are going to draft a quarterback in the next two years and they may not have the draft capital to get ahead of San Diego or Cincinnati or Miami. Brady to the Colts, Brady to the Chargers, does it sound nuts to you? Neither one of those sounds nuts to
Starting point is 01:15:15 me. And I think that the whole issue is going to be, I think there's going to be two things that Tom Brady is going to have to decide. A, does he want to still keep playing? And B, does he want to go back to New England? And I think the biggest issue about going back to New England is that, and look, I have not talked to him about this. I don't know this to be the case. But just how would you feel if you're Tom Brady? And every year, the New England, England Patriots basically pile an offense on your shoulders that is nowhere near the most talented offense in football. And every year they basically say to Tom, okay, Tom, fix it. You know, make our offense great.
Starting point is 01:16:03 And for years he has. This year he couldn't. You know, I think the biggest day for this Patriots team this year was on a Sunday back in March when Rob Grankowski left. And Jared Cook signed as a free agent with the New Orleans Saints. That was going to be a guy who the Patriots were going to go hard after. But because it took Gruncowski so long to make his decision, then they could never get a tight end. Then I don't know why they did this. They traded Jacob Hollister to Seattle.
Starting point is 01:16:34 And they really could have used Jacob Hollister to tight end as this year went on. Then they drafted the wrong guy, evidently. And Keel Harry over A.J. Brown. So, you know, it was just a bad year choreographing and populating this offense around Tom Brady. You know, you know, for some reason, I think you used to cover the New York Giants or in your early, early, early days. You maybe didn't, but I have this. You did. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:17:02 And it's funny about these great organizations. I'm a big believer in evolve, evolve, evolve. And the giants, the criticism is, you know, they have not jumped head first into analytics. They're very, very old school. And, you know, you've seen the results the last several years. But I still contend my quarterback Daniel Jones on a rookie contract for three more years. I think they've got nice offensive talent, a star running back. I contend this is a very good job.
Starting point is 01:17:32 In your reporting in NFL circles, does it feel like the Giants are still an elite job in this league, Peter? What a question that is. I think some people would say yes, give me that job. I think Matt Ruhle would love to get that job. I mean, he's a New Yorker. He grew up loving the Giants and all that. So, you know, look, I think there are some people who would look at that job. You know, I think Mike McCarthy would love that job.
Starting point is 01:18:03 But I think there's one thing to keep in mind. Yes, they have Sequin Barclay, okay? But they still are in the process of rebuilding the offensive line. they have one receiver, Darius Slayton, long term, who looks like he's going to be pretty good. Evan Engram is totally unreliable. You have no idea if he can stay healthy. So you don't know if you've got a tight end. You've got a couple of no-name tight ends who played pretty well this year.
Starting point is 01:18:29 And then you tell me on defense one player who scares an offensive coordinator preparing for to play the Giants. There isn't one. And now because they want a couple down the stretch, they're going to miss out on chasing. young. So, you know, really, I think the Giants have a lot of rebuilding to do. And look, John Mara at a crucial time in franchise history is doubling down on Dave Gettleman. And it doesn't seem to be the smartest move, quite honestly. And we'll see if he is, if it is. Because Gettelman, this is going to be one of the most important off seasons in the recent history of the Giants, not just in who they hire as a coach, but in their plans during the draft.
Starting point is 01:19:12 and what can they do in free agency with 60-some million in cap room available? Yeah. Is there, you know, you look at this college, Urban Meyer, Lincoln, Riley, Dallas Cowboys, I said earlier. Phil Jackson won with the Lakers, but Pat Riley and Jerry West played for him. Phil was an outsider, and the Lakers never loved him getting all the credit. Similarly, Jimmy Johnson and Parcells, they were rock stars before. Jerry Jones. He liked the Campo, Wade Phillips, Jason Garrett, that these big family, massive family brands, Lakers and the Cowboys, even when they've won with Phil Jackson or Jimmy, there's this sense
Starting point is 01:19:56 that it's ours, you're taking way too much credit. Do you think the Cowboys have the guts to go get an Urban Meyer, who was a rock star long before he would take a cowboy job and doesn't need the Cowboys? I don't think Jerry Jones ever had a problem with Jimmy Johnson being a star until he felt that Jimmy Johnson was trying to take all the credit. From the day he started coaching the Dallas Cowboys to the day he left, Bill Parcells, the number one fan in his fan club was Jerry Jones. They got along famously. And Parcells would bitch and moan some, but he liked working for Jerry Jones. At the end of it, Jerry Jones handed Bill Parcells the keys to a Papa John's restaurant, a franchise. I mean, that's how much just off the books, just because here, I want you to have this.
Starting point is 01:20:52 And look, here's the thing about working for Jerry Jones. It is a totally different thing to do. But in my opinion, and I've said this to two candidates who may be coaches next year in the NFL, go in, if you do talk to Jerry Jones, my strong recommendation is to go into it with an open mind. There are things that you're not going to like about Jerry, but Jerry is going to give you every resource possible to win. And if you can take him having 94 talk shows and talking after the games instead of the players or in addition of it, if you can take all that, you know, this guy is not a domineering nut. And that is the,
Starting point is 01:21:38 reputation he has. I've seen it. I've seen him during draft times. I've seen him swallow what he wants to do and say to the guys in the room, okay, listen, we're going to do that. You know, he did that four years ago. He desperately wanted Paxton Lynch and they didn't get him and Jerry was upset, but he acceded to the wishes of the guys in his draft room. By the way, Josh McDaniels, gut feeling. Where's the end up? gut feeling is Cleveland. Wow. Look, in my opinion, Colin, in my opinion, I think if you look at Urban Meyer, and Urban Meyer is obviously a great football coach, but he reminds me of a guy who every year you're going
Starting point is 01:22:29 to have to wonder, is he a long-termer? Or do you hire Urban Meyer to get you out of the muckin-mire? No pun intended. and to get yourself to a 10-win plateau, and then if he leaves, you're okay, because he has saved your franchise. If you're okay with that, then he's an okay hire. But I don't think you hire Urban Meyer thinking,
Starting point is 01:22:53 here's our guy for the next 10 years. Here's our Paul Brown. Good stuff. Peter King, NBCSports.com. Can't wait for the weekend, the wildcard weekend. Peter, thank you so much. All right. Yeah. Boy, I tell you him, I'm Josh McDaniels.
Starting point is 01:23:09 I would struggle, sign up. the contract to be a Cleveland Browns coach, watching what they've done to these coaches. I would really struggle with it. He apparently really likes Baker Mayfield, though. That's the guy who does. Okay. We got one left. Joy with the news.
Starting point is 01:23:25 No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. I'm trying to imagine a world where you felt the way that you did about Maker Mayfield in the draft, and the Patriots trade up to get him. I would have just, well, he would, he would not play because Brady would be playing. Right. So he would not be playing.
Starting point is 01:23:47 So I wouldn't have any opinion. Would your reaction be? My reaction would be if they really wanted him, they would have done it. So they had some apprehensions too. If Patriots want to do something, they'd do it. They're going to turn up to the number one pick? Yeah, I think you could go to teams. And if you want to make stuff happen in sports, everybody's, you know, you've heard this before.
Starting point is 01:24:04 Everybody's got a number. I mean, like Cincinnati may want Joe Burrow. but if somebody came up and said, we'll give you, we'll give you three number ones and a starting left tackle. Well, don't do that, but. I mean, everybody's got a number in this league.
Starting point is 01:24:21 Yeah. So tomorrow could potentially be Tom Brady's final home game as a member of the Patriots, but Bill Belichick is not thinking about that right now in typical Belichick fashion. He is focused solely on the next opponent. We're focused on Titans.
Starting point is 01:24:35 That's really, that's all I'm focused on. So do everything we can to get ready to go and play the best game. We can play Saturday night. I mean, I don't know what we are. It doesn't matter. We're just trying to get ready for the Titans play our best game on Saturday night. He's quite stirring. A new dynasty means a new coach talking a lot behind the podium.
Starting point is 01:24:55 I mean, he is not going to say anything. He's obviously not going to answer that question. I really don't want to say this. I think sports is more fun with player movement. I would love to see Brady go somewhere. It's fun. Kevin Durant to the Warriors. So I know you think the Colts makes the most sense.
Starting point is 01:25:09 I think it may, I think the Colts number one, Chargers 2. Okay, so you think the Chargers. Where would you like to see him? Colts. Like for the most, for our sense. Well, I'd like him to play for the Chargers. The most controversial or contents thriving situation. I think it would be great if he was my neighbor in Manhattan Beach, California.
Starting point is 01:25:27 And he, because they're right next to the stadium. So he and Giselle came over for cookies and stuff. That would be awesome. They could play pool. Well, my wife and I played pool last night. You could treat them to very cold cereal. Yeah, yeah, with ice cubes in it. No, I think it.
Starting point is 01:25:39 If you're asking me, I think, I think it'd be weird for the chargers to go from old quarterback to old quarterback. That's a real shot at Phillip Rivers. Listen, we're getting a guy that's older than you. I think Indianapolis makes a ton. By the way, he played with Jacoby Brisset. So he would just walk in and say, I'm the guy. Jacoby backs me up. And they would suddenly go to a really formidable team with a real formidable quarterback situation.
Starting point is 01:26:04 It's interesting. I honestly, I don't know. Maybe it's just, I can't really see him leaving. I know, I get it. And a lot of the stuff that LeVar Erington was talking about yesterday is important. That was great. It is because it's a bigger factor than just, okay, we're going to go to go play for another team because they have better players. There's especially someone as detailed as Tom Brady is.
Starting point is 01:26:29 I mean, you get into a routine where everything is laid out for you to the tiniest detail. This is really. what temperature you like your tea in the morning. Okay, my wife and I, we always joke, we're great movers. We've moved. We've had 12 houses. We're great movers. And after the last time we moved, she's like, I'm done moving.
Starting point is 01:26:47 Like, as you age, it's harder to move. You just, the energy to move and the- And the energy is the important part because it's not so much of just going to another team. And oh, I know this coordinator is going to be there. It's starting over. You're starting everything over. The temperature your car is in the morning. And like all of those things, however small, if you have to spend your brain energy thinking about that when you didn't before, it factors into it.
Starting point is 01:27:13 Remember the late Steve Jobs wore the same thing to work? He goes, I didn't want to think about it. I was changing the world. I wanted khakis and top ciders and a black sweater. Yeah, and it seems silly, but it's very important. I like to park in the same parking spot every day. Like the less brain energy you spend on those seemingly insignificant things, it affects your day. There's only so much time in a day.
Starting point is 01:27:34 So Carson Wentz is preparing to play in his first playoff game on Sunday, and Doug Peterson is doing everything he can to keep his quarterback calm and focused. I don't want to add any more stress or pressure on him. I mean, just the game itself. I mean, it's a one-and-done mentality, and I don't want him to play free and not have to worry about, you know, things in the past that are out of our control at this time. We're going to focus on, you know, Seattle. God, I can't wait to wait to play.
Starting point is 01:28:04 watch this. Everybody's telling me this is going to be boring because all the... I think it's the best game of the weekend. So do I. I cannot. Goulet, Cowboys aren't in it. I don't know if you know. What's your favorite game of the weekend, Goulet? I think the Patriots won because I want to see if the Patriots dynasty is over and that one because I think it's probably
Starting point is 01:28:22 the closest. They're both just injury ravage and they just tell their quarterbacks, please win the game for us. I like watching games on television in Philadelphia. I like the stadium. I like the fans. I like the atmosphere. I just also don't know what to expect from this game. Like I feel like I kind of have a...
Starting point is 01:28:38 It's going to be nighttime, Philadelphia, cold. Fans are all drunk. But the Seahawks play great on the road. So that's why this game is so intrigued to me. The lines moved a little bit on Fox Bed. They are now... Seahawks are now one and a half point favorite. So it's...
Starting point is 01:28:52 I'm taking the Eagles in overtime by a field goal. I don't know. I think I like the Seahawks, but either way, I'm intrigued. Finally, the first fan vote rankings for the NBA All-Star game have been released. Luca Donchich leads all players in the West right now, followed by Lakers teammates, LeBron and Anthony Davis. That's cool. If voting ended today, Donchich and James Hardin would be the starting guards,
Starting point is 01:29:15 and LeBron, AD, and Kauai would represent the front court from the west. In the east, Yonis has a top spot by a large margin and is on pace to be captain for second year in a row now. And the East starters that would join Yonis. If voting ended today, are Joelle M. Bede, Pascal Seacom, Trey Young, and Kyrie Irving. Janice from Greece, Luca Dantzich, a European player. This was the vision of David Stern, the commissioner who just passed away to make basketball not just domestic but global.
Starting point is 01:29:41 It absolutely is. And here we have the two global stars leading all of our domestic stars in fan voting. That's awesome. Yeah, and it just keeps growing globally also. Captains will draft their team from the pool of starters and then the reserves, regardless of their conference affiliation. But, yeah, I mean, it's pretty expected. honest one is pretty expected in the east. Obviously, he's a superstar out there, but I'm excited for the All-Star here.
Starting point is 01:30:08 Yeah, and there's a ton of good. So I went to the Utah Jazz, hosted the Blazers. I went on vacation, my kids to watch it. Oh, you want? We had an absolute blast. It was a great game. NBA didn't have a bad guy in the league. The players are so great.
Starting point is 01:30:21 Every league's got like a bad guy. Donovan Mitchell is so beloved by the fans. He treats them like gold. Utah, it's like college. They love their players. Everybody loves Dane. There's really not a villain in the league right now at all. There's not a single bad guy.
Starting point is 01:30:35 It's just a bunch of good kids. We had so much fun as a family. Like even there's a point where, you know, Jimmy Bellew was a little bit controversial. He's goofy. Miami. We love him. We absolutely love him.
Starting point is 01:30:48 You're playing well. Yes. He's a little goofy. The heater crushing right now. He can come on our Super Bowl week. We should have him on the show. Have Jimmy Bellar on. They'll be in town.
Starting point is 01:30:56 Yeah. He can be a little, you got a little bit of ego, but he's fun. We've had him on the seven. before he's fun. He's great. Yeah, joy with the news. Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by.

Starting point is 01:34:42 on the Iheart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. He's a Hall of Famer, 11 years in the NFL, played in a half dozen playoff games, in fact, had 248 yards rushing in one playoff game against the Dallas Cowboys. I believe it's still a record.
Starting point is 01:35:01 Do you know that? You believe it is a record still. Still a record. You believe nobody rushed for 248 yards in a playoff game. Teams don't rush for 200 yards. They don't run the ball like that anymore, but yeah, that was a lot of y' You know going in, we were going to pound the ball. Yes.
Starting point is 01:35:15 And, you know, Dallas Cowboys played, it was the Cowboys. They played that Plex defense. Yes. I love that flex because they off the ball. You know, I would, I would, I would get to them quick. And I was, man, I was off to the races. I mean, we killed him. 248.
Starting point is 01:35:28 You think the Cowboys is a good job? Of all the jobs available, which one's the best? Dallas Cowboys, sure. Almost definitely. I mean, I think that, you know, my dad had a saying, he said, son, the truth ain't popular, but it is the truth. Now, you might not like the Dallas Cowboys. I don't like the Cowboys myself, but, you know, they are the most popular team.
Starting point is 01:35:46 I mean, when the Cowboys are winning, you know, it's different. I mean, you take, the Patriots have six Super Bowls. The Cowboys have won a Super Bowl since the 90s. And they're still far more popular. And they're still far more popular. You got it. And they're well, they're well funded. They have very good players.
Starting point is 01:36:00 They still have the best or second best offensive line. So you don't have to rebuild your offensive line, which is hard. Very hard. And even you go, if you ever been to Dallas. I don't know, you probably haven't been to Dallas. They're complex. They're out in Friscoe. Second or none.
Starting point is 01:36:14 I got to say Jerry Jones, he bars, no expense. I mean, when I say it is nice, I'm like, I wish I could be too. I just have you been to play for the cowboy, but I would play for the cowboy. So you grew up in Texas but didn't like him? No. Why didn't you like them? I just didn't like that America's team thing. I didn't like the arrogance of the Dallas Cowboys.
Starting point is 01:36:33 Like, you have to like the Cowboys. We don't have to like them. So I like, you know who I liked? The Pittsburgh Steelers. The team used to beat them. In Texas? In Texas, I know. It's odd.
Starting point is 01:36:44 Listen, you eat candy all day. Your personality is unique. I haven't eaten today. You have not eaten today. I'm not going to get into it. I'll eat tonight. I already know what I want to eat. Oh, gosh.
Starting point is 01:36:53 That's good. You'll eat tonight. That's great. So let's just go over. I want you to go over. Give me the games your thoughts on them. Let's go with Bills at the Texans. Who do you like and why?
Starting point is 01:37:04 I like the Bills. I think the Bills are just a better football team all around. I think the Texans, they only have Deshaun Watson, and that offensive line is not very good. And D'Andre Hopkins. They don't run the ball well. So I just think the Bills are really a better football team. Titans at the Patriots.
Starting point is 01:37:23 Well, I see it all the time. Every time I call him an old man, he seems to come through. Tom Brady. I mean, I think the Patriots will win this football game at home. It's hard to beat him at home. I mean, it's been done very few times. But, you know, and what does Bill Belichick do? What is he known for?
Starting point is 01:37:37 He always takes away what your best weapon. And that best weapon is Derek Henry. And you think Tanner Hill going to beat Tom Brady and Bill Belichick in New England? I don't think so. That's fair enough. Tannahill, by the way, in his career at Foxborough, O-4-6 and awful. Oh, that is. There it is.
Starting point is 01:37:53 Vikings at Saints feels pretty predictable, although I will say Delvin Cook plays keep the ball away. I think Minnesota is a much tougher out than people think here. I think the only weakness that the Saints have is stopping the run. I mean, they're at
Starting point is 01:38:09 home. It's hard to beat the Saints at home. I mean, it's very difficult. You play there? Oh, my God. Even they weren't good. I mean, they hit that Dome Patrol with Ricky Jackson and all those guys. I mean, let me tell you, it's hard to be there at home. So I'll take the Saints in that football game. Now, you and I differ. I like Philadelphia at home
Starting point is 01:38:25 night game. The crowd's lubricated. You like Seattle. I like Seattle. I just think that Seattle's a better football team. I mean, you know, with, I can't think a quarterback. Russell Wilson. You love Russell. I know you love Russell. I love Russell. Philly, I think Philly
Starting point is 01:38:41 they don't have weapons. I mean, they don't have enough weapons. I mean, the guys are hurt. I mean, I think Zach Ertz, is he going to play? I mean, he's hit and miss. I think he's got a kidney or something, a liver. I mean, he's questionable. So, you know, I just, I feel like that Seattle won this football game. They should have won that game.
Starting point is 01:38:57 They should, they should, I think that was a bad. They should, that was a bad car. And I worry about Seattle coming off an incredibly emotional, physical game against San Francisco. What did you make a Marshawn Lynch? Now, you know, he's out. Then he comes back and he looked pretty effective. When you retired, could you have come back 15 months later and played?
Starting point is 01:39:16 Oh, man, I don't know, because it was a different league, you know. They could really hit you. I played, really hit you. So you were done, you were done. Yeah, I was done. I mean, you know, I didn't have, I just didn't, no, I think when I, it was over me, it was really over. Marshawn, I think that if you get him going, if they get him going, get the running game going, and see how likes to run the football, I think that they could possibly do something.
Starting point is 01:39:37 What do you make about his running style? Just when you watch him, what do you see? Earl Campbell. He reminds me, Earl Campbell. Earl ran different. Earl was way harder to tackle than Marchion. But I see Earl Campbell with him, you know, nothing fancy. You know, if he run through you.
Starting point is 01:39:51 He's not going to run around. You're getting away. You're going to get run over. You're going to be on the highlight tape. And it's going to be funny. 235 runs hard. Hard. Runs hard.
Starting point is 01:39:59 Big, thick. Thick body. You know, just thick body. I mean, and the thing, when you start running the football. Them defensive backs,
Starting point is 01:40:05 them line. Even linebackers, they're like, man, come on, help us out here. Yeah, by and large, Marshawn's one of,
Starting point is 01:40:11 he's like a baseball pitcher. He's better after the fifth inning. Yeah. Marshawn appears to, he likes the ball. He likes 22 carries. He wants more carries. There you go.
Starting point is 01:40:21 And that's how it is when you run in the football. You know, when you get into that, I tell you got to get lathered up. You've got to get into a rhythm, a rhythm. And a rhythm, you can't have the ball three times in the first quarter and have it four times in the second quarter and four times in the third and maybe six times in the fourth. It doesn't work.
Starting point is 01:40:39 It's a rhythm. It's really is a rhythm. And you know, you feel like, okay, keep running this rock. Keep keep running. I'm feeling it. Yeah. If I said you've got a minute left. If I said, greatest football players ever,
Starting point is 01:40:50 knowing that Brady's not one of the great athletes. Could you say Brady's the best football player ever? No, no, not the greatest football player. I mean, because you got, that's athleticism. Even though one of the greatest quarterbacks, possibly, yes, no doubt. God, you only gets a possibly from you? Well, you're going to tell you because, I mean, I was a Joe Montana guy. I mean, you know, I always say this, it's who you saw and who you liked.
Starting point is 01:41:12 I mean, that's what it comes down to. That's right. Yeah, because, like, all right, 25 years from there, people are not going to see Tom Brady. It's going to be somebody else. They're going to say, oh, it's so-and-so. he's the greatest. I didn't see Tom Brady play. Who you see is who you like.
Starting point is 01:41:23 Exactly who you see is who you like. We have video of Eric Dickerson against the Cowboys. This still remains. Can I see it? It's 248 yards on grass. Oh, look at it. Oh! Second play in the first half.
Starting point is 01:41:34 ISO. That play was our ISO. 65 y'all. They didn't even touch you. Hold on. I had them just. The sweep. Watch this.
Starting point is 01:41:42 Get out the way. Get out the way. Eric, you look so much bigger than everyone else on the field. You know, but my out paths were huge. We had huge paths. I mean, that's not that. That's the real 227. That was till the game was going.
Starting point is 01:41:55 I had time now. Don't let that fool you. Hour 3 next. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Sunday, Kirk Cousins looks to finally break through as he leads the Vikings against Drew Brees. Michael Thomas and the Saints in the NFC wildcard game.
Starting point is 01:42:13 Coverage begins at 11 a.m. Eastern on Fox and the Fox Sports app. Now let's talk Super 6 NFL playoffs. One of the questions for this game is which team will win and by how many points. Colin, who you got? I think it's really close. I think it's 2820 Saints, lower scoring than people think. Delvin Cook's healthy ground game. I think Minnesota's well-coached.
Starting point is 01:42:32 Excellent roster. I don't think they'll put the game in Kirk Cousin's hands. I think the Saints defense is better than people think. I think it's going to be a really, really good football game. With that, Darrell Moose Johnson, he not only did he get three Super Bowls, multiple-time pro bowler over a decade in the NFL. actually played with Jason Garrett for a while, not a short period of time. And he joins us via the Coward Global Satellite Network.
Starting point is 01:42:56 We know that Jason Garrett's smart. We know he won a division. We know people love him and respect him. It's interesting, Moose. You know, sometimes they say, Pat Riley used to say, after about 10 years, you should just get another job because your message gets drowned out. If I said to you, and you know Jason Garrett very well, he's a friend, what didn't work? Like what was the thing that didn't work?
Starting point is 01:43:21 What is it? Oh, I have no idea, Colin. It's like when we talk to teams in our production meetings on Friday and just on a weekly basis going through an NFL season, they're trying to correct the issues that they have. And as soon as you fix one thing, something else happens. So I think the biggest thing was just the inconsistency and the inability to sustain success.
Starting point is 01:43:42 I think that's what every franchise is looking for right now. And really the only one that's been able to do this is the New England Patriots, the way we do business today. So I think that that was the biggest challenge for Jason during his tenure was being able to stack that 13 and 3 winning season with a 12 and 4 or an 11 and 5, but they just kind of bounced around a little bit too much and lacked the consistency in the performance from the seasonal record. You know, some have made the argument that on the defensive side of the ball,
Starting point is 01:44:14 Dallas's talent is a little overstated. Do you buy that? Do you think they need to rebuild the defense a little? I do. I do. I think the defense was the one side of the ball that underperformed a little bit this year. When you look at what they were able to accomplish last year, I think that that's the area where you were expecting that next step. And that next step really didn't happen. I'm not sure if it's a step back. But just some of the fundamentals, the tackling was poor during the course of the season. you know, the pre-snap penalties, you know, the inability to take the football away. I mean, it's been a consistent problem for the Dallas defense, creating turnovers, creating
Starting point is 01:44:55 takeaways. This year, with just the seven interceptions, you know, they're tied for the fewest in the NFL, along with Detroit and Arizona, you know, who combined to have eight wins. So you've got to get better taking the football away. And I think that that was one of the things when we go all the way back to April when you had some of those safeties that were still on the board when they took Tristan Hill. and then you watch and you see what Taylor Rapted, you see what Juan Thornhill did this season. I think that
Starting point is 01:45:20 there's some questioning in the direction they went during the draft. You know, is there a type of coach they need? Yeah, I think every coach is an individual. You know, he's going to have his own style. I don't think that there's a perfect fit.
Starting point is 01:45:38 You know, some people, we've seen strong personalities, you know, work in Dallas with Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells. We've seen coaches with their first opportunity and maybe a little bit more open, you know, to sharing, you know, the business of the NFL along with the organization and ownership. So I think we've seen, you know, multiple styles of coaches come in here, but they just haven't been able to create that sustained success that Jerry is craving. So I don't know if there's one that you're
Starting point is 01:46:07 looking for. I think it has to be the perfect fit. Whoever the group is that is sitting down to make this decision. When they all sit down, you're going to know who that guy. is when that meeting is over. But you've got to sit down and have the big conversation, see what his plan and what is that journey going to be next season. What are the things that are important to him as a head football coach? Who are the hires? Who's going to be on that staff?
Starting point is 01:46:29 Who are the critical components of the staff that he's going to put in place for you? And once you have all those conversations with all the candidates, there's going to be one that you move to the front of that list. Do you think, Jerry, you know, Al Davis later in his career, he was an innovator early. and then became a little antiquated, a little stubborn late. Has Jerry changed, Moose, or do you still see the same guy you played for? I see an owner that is just driven by the desire to be a champion again. And it's amazing to me.
Starting point is 01:47:02 It's been this long since Dallas has had the opportunity to compete, to compete not only for an NFC championship, but for a Super Bowl championship. If you were to tell me when we won our last Super Bowl, that 25 years later, Dallas still would not have been in a championship, championship game in the NFC or gone back to the Super Bowl, I would not have believed that. And I know that that is the driving force behind the organization is to get back to where they were in the 90s. And they, you know, sometimes, you know, that can be your worst enemy. Sometimes the decisions that are made trying to get there too quickly sidetrack that journey.
Starting point is 01:47:39 So, but I do know the one thing that has not changed about Jerry Jones and the organization is is the desire to win a championship. It is always at the forefront. And sometimes it's been an emesis with some of the decisions. You won three Super Bowls in the early to mid-90s. Take my audience as we have four playoff games this weekend. You know, there's preseason football. There's regular season football.
Starting point is 01:48:05 Then there is that flip of the switch, Darrell, that it's playoff football. Take me back to your career. Is there more anxiety, more detail? more detail is more asked of you. You're often playing banged up. Tell my audience the difference between, I can watch football and it looks the same, but every player I talk to says,
Starting point is 01:48:24 oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. January football and November football are different football. How? The finality of the result when you lose, the season's over, you know, during the course of the season, if you come out and you have a subpar performance and don't play up to the level that your standard has been during the course of the year,
Starting point is 01:48:42 and you lose, you get another opportunity that following Sunday, you know, to fix those issues. When you get to January, if you come out and you don't perform to the level that you need to, to the standard that that team has constructed, then you are going to wait an awful long time to have an opportunity to get that fix. So for me, it was always the finality. And the teams that handle that pressure, you know, during the course of their preparation, during the course of the game, don't make the critical mistakes. Don't, you force your opponent to beat you. You don't lose the game. There's a huge difference between getting beat and losing a game. And that's the most important thing when you get
Starting point is 01:49:17 into playoff football into January football. The mistakes are magnified. Everything is magnified because of the finality of the situation. So the teams that don't feel that pressure that can go out and be able to perform in the environment like it's just another game, those are the teams that usually go on those runs late in the year. And it was one of the things that our team was able to do. I don't think we ever got into a playoff game, a championship game. or the Super Bowl and had it feel like it was anything more than just another football game for us. We knew what the stakes were, but we were so well prepared. We had earned the right to win during the course of the week, and we felt very confident when we stepped on the field.
Starting point is 01:49:56 You know, I look over, it's funny, I look over the NFC, and I don't get caught up and home and away in record. Seattle's won at home. They've won away. A Saints are capable, clearly of winning at home or away. There is something, though, in the NFC, which you cover a lot with. Fox. There is something about San Francisco this year, Moose, and their ability to beat you multiple ways. They can go fullback first in pound. They can go Emmanuel Sanders Kittle, beat you down the field. The pass rush can overwhelm Aaron Rogers, Baker Mayfield. To me, San Francisco feels like as long as they're healthy, I just think they can beat people more ways. Having seen all the NFC teams, do you have a team you feel strongly about heading into Wild Card weekend?
Starting point is 01:50:42 Well, I agree with you a lot on the San Francisco 49ers. We had them several times down the stretch. And you talk about a team that you think is healthy. They've been able to navigate the injury bug better than any team in recent history that I can remember. We had them once shortly after they had both their starting tackles out, kiddell's been out, use checks been out, you know, all their key guys. And it's been amazing to watch this team fight through that. The one thing that I think that San Francisco does a tremendous job during the course of the season was when a big play needs. it to be made. They were able to make it, whether it was the offense, the defense, special
Starting point is 01:51:17 teams. Their complementary football as a team was as good as I had seen during the course of the year. And the one thing that separated them was that ability when the game's kind of teetering there and you're trying to get that momentum back, it seemed like the 49ers were always able to make that critical play. And I think everybody would love to see the rematch of the San Francisco 49ers and the New Orleans Saints. That would be the other team. for me right now, Colin. I just think that a team that's been able to get back to this position after what's happened to them the last two seasons,
Starting point is 01:51:50 the Minnesota miracle, the non-call on the past interference last year in the championship game, they're able to get back to this position to put themselves in place to play for another opportunity to go to the Super Bowl. I think that the fortitude of this group, you know, what Drew Breeze has done this season, you know, the way the defense is playing. Again, it's probably the other,
Starting point is 01:52:12 team in the NFC that's playing as good as complimentary football as I've seen during the course of the season. Yeah, you know, it's funny. Every time at this time of the year, I feel like I know who's going to be at it, and I agree with you. I feel strongly. I'm like, okay, Saints, Niners feels like it. Ravens Chiefs feels like it, but we both know something, it just doesn't work out that way. But I'm with you. There's just a volume of athleticism. The coaching is excellent. Niners Saints feel so right to me. And they're two, I like both stories. So Moose Johnson, Three rings, Fox Sports, 11 years, multiple Pro Bowls. Thank you so much for stopping by.
Starting point is 01:52:49 My pleasure, Colin. Always good to visit with you. Yeah, it does feel to me. There's 14. I think Green Band, New England are close. It feels like there's four really special teams. It's in college football. I felt like LSU is special, Clemson special, Ohio State special.
Starting point is 01:53:03 Ohio, Oklahoma felt interesting, not special. I think we've got 12 teams in the playoffs, four feel better. and my gut feeling is it Saints, Niners, Baltimore, Kansas City. And they're mostly now, San Francisco gets a buy, mostly healthy. Joy with the News. No, no, no, no, no.
Starting point is 01:53:23 Turn on the news. This is the Herdline News. Well, we have been talking about the coaching vacancies all day, but one that has been filled is Washington, and Ron Rivera was introduced as the new Redskins head coach yesterday at its press conference. conference, he was no nonsense. He explained the one thing he will focus on to turn the franchise
Starting point is 01:53:44 around. Things will begin and in with one simple principle. Discipline. I come from a military family where discipline, it isn't taught. It's lived. It's expected from day one. I have a philosophy that every player, every coach, everyone who works for this organization, they'll know it, day one. You're not going to play for this team. You're not going to work for this team. If you don't have the the commitment to give us everything you have. No exceptions, no excuses. It's that simple, guys. We have to hold each other accountable.
Starting point is 01:54:18 I like everything he's saying. Very serious. Very serious. No messing around. Yes, it's kind of what they need in Washington. Somebody a little serious. Someone with a little discipline. How about Dan Snyder?
Starting point is 01:54:31 Did you hear what he said? He goes, hope you all had a happy Thanksgiving. That was like three holidays ago. I don't. Come on, Dan. I'm not. It was literally three holidays ago. I'm really not sure what I don't have the answers for that one.
Starting point is 01:54:44 Yes, I saw it. I chose to just ignore it. Yes, not acknowledge what was happening there. But Ron Rivera has removed the ping pong and shuffleboard tables from the locker room as a, I don't know, first step in the direction of discipline. Very serious. Very serious. Now, other teams have this. The Giants have it.
Starting point is 01:55:03 Saints have it. Yes. But New Orleans is a fun city. You couldn't be too. I mean, a lot of workplaces have us. A lot of baseball teams do this. Pete Carroll's got some fun stuff. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:55:15 I mean, you need to have a little bit of looseness to you, but you get to do that after you do, you know, some winning. Do you notice that we provide coffee and Danishes for the staff, but only after rating success? Oh, is that the standard? First year, nothing. Nothing. Now we give coffee and danishes and scones and cinnamon rolls.
Starting point is 01:55:35 Is that true? Well, I don't remember there being snacks in there. No, not. Then you got here and the numbers went up and then we rewarded the staff. You give Goulet cinnamon rolls for no ratings. You just get nothing from him. He'll take naps mid-show. You were eating this morning. I did. I had a delicious something. What was it? A bagel. A bagel, yeah.
Starting point is 01:55:54 Yeah, I got to hold off on the bagels. Holidays did me in. So, Dalvin Cook missed the Vikings. Final two games in the season with a shoulder injury. He set to return Sunday against the Saints, but he insists there was never a chance that that injury was going to keep him from the playoffs. I knew what my goal was to be ready for the playoff. I don't have been there before. I know looking that's going to hold me out. Just get healthy, get strong, and get back on the field. I definitely feel refreshed.
Starting point is 01:56:20 I won't put the percentage on it. You know, if I was whatever percentage, I'd be out there on Sunday, though. So I'm going to be ready to go. I'm going to be at full sprint. And, you know, I'm looking for a good football game. Well, Saints are seven and a half point favorites against the Vikings this weekend. But this is great news for Minnesota because I am at least giving them a chance with Alvin Cook. Otherwise, this was not even going to be a question.
Starting point is 01:56:48 I think it's closer than people think. I'll take the Saints, but I don't. I think it's, listen, I'm from Seattle and I'm taking Philadelphia. I would never work in politics. I could never work in politics. I'm reading this morning, you know, that thing that happened in Iran. Oh, yes. All conservatives are like, listen, it needed to be done.
Starting point is 01:57:05 All liberals were like, oh, my God, it's frightening. think it was the worst move ever. Nobody can ever break away from their side. I'm picking the Eagles and I'm from Seattle and I love Russell Wilson. So, I mean, all these games to me, I don't even care. Listen, everybody thinks I love Brady. In a weird way, I think it's better if the dynasty ends. I think it's better for the NFL.
Starting point is 01:57:22 It's more fun. I want to see Brady be a cult. That'd be great. Yeah, I was slightly higher repercussions. You and I can never work in politics. No, I would not work in politics. We're not partisan enough. I should be rooting for the Patriots.
Starting point is 01:57:35 I just like I like to say what I feel. Yeah. I can't tow a company line. No. Not doing all that. Well, anyway, I don't. I've not like the Vikings all year. Not that I don't think that they're a great team.
Starting point is 01:57:49 I just don't, I don't trust Kirk Cousins. There you go. And either is Vegas. That's why the line is what it is. Finally, the 15 finalists for this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame class have been announced. The list includes, consists of seven first-time finalists, including Joy Palomalo and Reggie Wayne, both in their first year. of eligibility.
Starting point is 01:58:06 Troy's getting in. Five will be selected to join the class of 2020, which will be introduced during the NFL honors February 1st on Fox, which is a great watch. And you know I might actually even be there. That will be in Miami. Troy Palm, all I believe will get in, yes, Reggie Wayne. Good to see Zach Thomas.
Starting point is 01:58:24 Tony Besselli. Tony Bicelli was great. Injuries, but he was, he and Steve Hutchison were, I'll tell you those guys, Besselli, Alan Fannick at Steve Hutchison, were dominating players, but Tony had an injury. I think Isaac Bruce might get in this year as well.
Starting point is 01:58:39 And I hope this is the year for Jimmy Johnson. The two coaches get in as well. It's embarrassing. It is. I think this is Jimmy's year. He changed. Nobody did trades until Jimmy. He literally culturally changed the league.
Starting point is 01:58:52 Yes. He changed. And it was, by the way, the most popular team in NFL history. That team ratings-wise was the most popular team. He coached he was the Lombardi with crazier hair. He was like the Packers for the first 30 years. of this league was like, we're the team. And then there were the Niners.
Starting point is 01:59:08 Then there were, you know, the Steelers, Cowboys. It's iconic. He is iconic. He absolutely should be in the Hall of Fame. I think this is his year. Bill Cowher is also on the list. Every Sunday I work on that Sunday cookoff show and people say, why do you work the extra day?
Starting point is 01:59:21 The reason I work it is so I can talk to guys like Jimmy Johnson, the information I get from Jimmy Johnson off the air every weekend he'll give me two tidbits. And I can use them on the air, just not credit him. Yeah, he's incredible. He is a wealth, a reservoir of, what's that? Did you say? Basically writes our show. Yeah, I mean, Jimmy Johnson should get show credit for us.
Starting point is 01:59:44 The scoops I get behind the scenes from Jimmy Johns, he knows everybody in the world. He fishes with Belichick every year. I'm like, what did you do this weekend? I went and caught some old Blu-ray out there with Belichick. I'm like, what's a Blu-ray? A Blu-ray? Whatever it is. A DVD, whatever it is.
Starting point is 02:00:01 A bluefin. Jimmy is a legend and a heart. All of favor, and I definitely hope this is. Very funny guy. Yes. He really is. He's actually very, very funny. Joy with the news.
Starting point is 02:00:11 Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Herd Lye News. Is Blu-ray not a fish? It's a bluefin. Bluefin, tuna. I think it's bluefin, yeah. You could watch fish on Blu-ray.
Starting point is 02:00:21 If you have a Blu-ray player. Oh, time out. We were going to show you that picture. Remember we were talking earlier when Eric Dickerson came on the show today, and he ran for all those yards. Yeah. It doesn't even look right. Like, Eric Dickerson is so much faster than
Starting point is 02:00:34 all the other NFL players. He ran a 4-3 and he was 225. And you were joking. And I said, there are athletes in our life that they're just so, it's genetics. They're just so, like, like I, the first time I stood next to Anthony Munoz or Pao Gassal, Pau was just so long. I'm just like, wow. And you mentioned Jonathan Ogden. Yes, he was, he was at one of my brother's foundations events. This is a high school picture of Jonathan Ogden. Yep, that's him. Yeah. That's a high school picture. It's amazing.
Starting point is 02:01:06 And that's not like junior high. Those are 5-11, 6 feet teammates. It's so good. Yeah. I mean, so like we, you know, we sit up here and we talk about sports and athletes all day long. Like, imagine you yourself, and you're a tall guy. I'm 6-2-1-94. Right.
Starting point is 02:01:22 You have to line up across from him. And it's your job to move him. I'm not saying working hard doesn't matter. But there are some genetic advantages. And he did still work. hard, very hard, but yes. And it's all, the genesis of this was when Eric Dickerson came on, we ran video of Eric Dickerson, and he's one, he ran a four or three.
Starting point is 02:01:42 Like Eric Dickerson, if he was a college running back, now watch how fast he is here. It's just absurd looking. He just runs standing up. He's running away from NFL players, running a pulling away from them. Look how fast he is. And he looks like a defensive lineman. Oh, my lord. It's fascinating.
Starting point is 02:02:03 And lives on candy. He eats once a day. Marginally. Yeah, not a lot. He walks by food once a day. We're not sure he consumes it. He loves candy. And he's still built.
Starting point is 02:02:14 Yeah. Whatever. Jason McIntyre, tomorrow's headlines today. You know I love that coming up next. Guys feel better with MDrive, MDrive, MDrive from N.com. Code Herd pack with clinically tested ingredients. 20% off your first month.
Starting point is 02:02:28 Refine your prime Walgreens has it as well. Be sure to catch live editions of the herd. in noon Eastern 9 a.m. Pacific. Good to have you back. Jason McIntyre used to be in the newspaper, biz, bailed on that, made a bunch of money. The big lead. Now he's at Fox Sports, FS1. You got out of that business at the right time, newspapers. You know, I'm in the gambling business. I just saw Lvar Errington here, and he was like, hey, Jay, I owe you a bottle because we bet some alcohol on the Clemson-O-Hockeg. I love Clemson. I just told him I'm doubling down.
Starting point is 02:02:59 I said, I'll give you LSU. Are you taking Clemson? I already have a sizable wager on Clemson. I like Clemson over LSU too. I don't know how you can doubt a team that keeps winning every single game they play with Trevor Lawrence. Trevor Lawrence is like the greatest quarterback ever. Oh my God. I heard they're doing, they're thinking about doing a lottery for the NFL draft next year. What?
Starting point is 02:03:18 Because Trevor Lawrence, they're worried about multiple teams tanking to get Trevor Lawrence. So the league is considering if teams start tanking early a NBA lottery model. Wow. Is that breaking news? Do we need a tag? What's that? That is dramatic. Well, if you have three teams tank and then you say, oh, you three, we're going to throw ping pong.
Starting point is 02:03:39 I mean, I think Trevor Lawrence is going to be great, but we're going to change how we do the NFL draft. Did you see what happened with your dolphins, Joy? They just hired Chan Gaylee as their offensive coordinator. He's 67 years old and he was retired. He came out. He's going to coach Ryan Fitzpatrick. Are they taking two in the first round? A 67-year-old offensive coordinator?
Starting point is 02:03:58 Are they going to say, let's roll out Fitzpatrick and play for Trevor Lawrence? Yeah, I don't have the answer for why that happened. Okay. But I did see it. That's a fun topic. Oh, I like that. Yeah. Okay, it's called tomorrow's headlines today.
Starting point is 02:04:10 Newspaper guy predicts. Tomorrow's headlines today, what will it be after the Bill's Texans game? Yeah, this one should be fun. It's the opener because the Texans are obligated to play in all the first games of the playoff round. The headline will be Buffalo Wild Wins. I love eating some Buffalo Wild Wings. I love Buffalo in this spot. So do I.
Starting point is 02:04:28 Listen, the Houston Texans, I'm a big Deshawn, Watson fan. But Colin, defensively, do you, are you under, do you realize how bad the red zone defenses? Worst in the league. Even Josh Allen will be able to figure them out. Again, defensively, yards per play. They're right there with the Bengals dead last. This is just not a good Texans defense. Even if JJ Watt returns, he's supposed to play on passing downs. Well, they need help in the run. Buffalo has a really good run offense. And Josh Allen, man, he's a player. He's been better on the road than at home. And they were three points. underdogs at the open and that's gone.
Starting point is 02:05:03 It's only two and a half now. And there's basically no home field advantage for Bill O'Brien. I like Buffalo here, definitely to win the game. Tomorrow's headlines today. What will it be after the Titans Patriots game? Oh, boy. Colin, do you realize this could be Tom Brady's final game at Foxborough? The headline will be.
Starting point is 02:05:24 We're still here for now. For now. I like the Patriots in this game. This is my favorite pick of the weekend. Tennessee Titans so overvalued, Colin. I mean, come on. This is Ryan Tannahill beating up a bunch of bad teams down the stretch. It did get lucky against the Chiefs because Kansas City imploded on special teams.
Starting point is 02:05:43 But this is a Patriots team where they're going to get right in this spot. And if you remember last year, the Patriots were playing the Chargers in the playoffs. And everybody loved the Chargers, the hot new team, Philip Rivers, good offense. And the Patriots obliterated them. It was like 35-0 at halftime. I have a feeling Ryan Tannehill, who's 0.N6. in Foxborough. With terrible numbers.
Starting point is 02:06:04 Against Belichick. Terrible. Yeah, it's like Bill Belichick off a loss to the dolphins. Give me the Patriots here big. The spread's only four and a half. I guarantee you it'll be up closer to six by kickoff. Tomorrow's headlines today,
Starting point is 02:06:17 Viking Saints. What will we have? This is a tough one because I do like the Vikings a lot this playoff run. They could put it together, but the headline will be. Easy, Breezy makes Kirk queasy. it's official that I am the last man standing on Cousins Island. I really like Kirk Cousins.
Starting point is 02:06:36 I've defended him for a long time, but I have a feeling I'm going to be off the island here. He just hasn't delivered in Minnesota. It's been a little disappointing, right? Yeah, especially a big road. I mean, Minnesota as a franchise has not been a great road, big game team. And defensively, their strength is off the edge. They've got two great pass rushers.
Starting point is 02:06:54 How do you beat Drew Brees? You pressure him in the middle because of the height factor, get him off his spot. I don't think they're going to be able to pressure Breeze up the middle. I like Minnesota to, you know, probably bring back Kirk Cousins next year, but I don't like them in this game. And he's been a disappointment in Minnesota. Now, by the way, we said this, Joy and I have said this. They could draft their roster is deep enough. They don't have big needs. If I was them, I would draft a quarterback with their first or second pick. Jacob Easton, your guy from Washington? Absolutely. I think this is Jacob Eastern at Washington
Starting point is 02:07:23 will be available to Minnesota. Certainly. I mean, they, they're, when you have a loaded roster and you have a quarterback on contract you're kind of into for one more year, you roll the dice. I think Minnesota goes and gets a quarterback with their first or second pick. Finally, tomorrow's headlines today, this is a great one. Seahawks Eagles, what will it be? So a couple weeks ago, we watched Cowboys Eagles together, right? At my grotto. Yeah, your grotto.
Starting point is 02:07:47 Gosh, that setup is incredible. And I think we're going to see a replay of that game here for Eagle Seahawks. The headline will be where there's a went. There's a way. Now, you are driving the Carson Wentz bandwagon. I love it. I mean, I don't think I can ride shotgun because I was out on him last year. But I do worry, is there pressure on Carson Wentz in his first playoff game when the guy, Nick Foles, who they let go, won each of the last two years.
Starting point is 02:08:13 Doug Peterson led Fultz, Foles to the Super Bowl victory. Here's the thing. When Seattle wins, it's barely against everybody. This game's going to be close. Nobody blows Seattle out and they don't blow anybody out. This is going to go to the final series. The last time these two teams played a kid by the name of Rashad Penny had a monster game on the ground. He's gone.
Starting point is 02:08:37 He's injured. Now you got Marshawn Lynch who, you know, basically what, three weeks ago was playing football with his kid in the backyard on Sundays and now he's your running back. I know Carson Wentz has very few options to pass two. Zach Hertz hasn't been practicing this week with the lacerated kidney. Do you think, do they think he'll play? I don't think he's practiced yet this week, but I heard a story that Carson Wentz met some guys at a New Year's Eve party and said, hey, will you come play receiver for us?
Starting point is 02:09:01 We're desperate in the playoffs. I mean, that's what they're doing. Greg Ward Jr., a converted college quarterback. I just think Wentz narrowly, as you said, maybe overtime, as you predicted. I like Wentz and the Eagles to pull it off. By the way, in terms of betting, we both like Clemson plus four and a half. Yes, well, I mean, geez, five, six, whatever the number is. Give me Clemson.
Starting point is 02:09:21 I'm the same way. The whole world you realize is, is on LSU. By the way, Clemson was not, they played such a weak schedule. Physically, they weren't ready for Ohio State for a quarter. After the first quarter, go look at Clemson's yards per play. They got seven yards of play against Ohio State. Now, listen, it's like facing Tyson in the first round.
Starting point is 02:09:41 You're just not ready for the force of him. If you can get, the, the rumor on, the feeling on Tyson was get to the fourth round, you're fine. You'll be gas. You've got to get past the force of Tyson. And by the way, Discover matches all the cash back. You earn any of your first year automatically. No limit. Go to Discover.com slash cashback.
