It is, you know, we know college football starts this weekend. We have the final preseason game, which doesn't mean a lot except for me. Maybe some of these rookie quarterbacks will play. Certain cities think I don't like them. Oklahoma thinks I don't like them because I'm banging on Baker, Mayfield. And Russell Westwood. Russell West. He hates Oklahoma.

It's like, no, it just happens you have two guys I've been critical of. Philadelphia thinks I hate him, even though I used to cover Jay Wright. I love Villanova. Duke and Villanova are my favorite college basketball programs in Gonzaga. And I also loved Andy Reid, who was there. But I think now my favorite player in the NFL is a Philadelphia Eagle. Malcolm Jenkins. The Eagles have put in their locker room a huge sign in their locker room.

It says Super Bowl 52 champions. A big sign. And Malcolm Jenkins came out yesterday and said, I hate it. I am way beyond celebrating last year's accomplishments. They don't mean anything. We're at the bottom just like everybody else. God, I love Malcolm Jenkins. Memo to Philadelphia and all you other teams that win a singular title.

The minute the parade ends, five minutes later, go to a film room. Because that trophy doesn't do your prep. In fact, I would say it inhibits your prep. The teams we talk about in sports, 30 years later, 50 years later, Bill Walsh's 49ers, the 70 Steelers, Showtime Lakers, New England Dynasty will be talked about in 30 years. Michael Jordan's Bulls, that lasted a decade. You know who we thought we were going to talk about? The Seattle Seahawks.

They won a big Super Bowl. And then they got chatty and cocky and political and fractured and ripped their quarterback in ESPN the magazine. And you know what Seattle is? One more Super Bowl than the Detroit Lions have. Ooh, congratulations. Philadelphia. While you're congratulating yourself, you do realize in your own state, Steelers have six. you have one.

In your own division, you're a laughing stock. The cowboys have five, the giants have four, the Redskins have three. The Eagles have one. In your own city, Villanova is the current dynasty. You're not. Here's what you are, Philadelphia. Slightly better now than the Jags. The Titans, the Lions, and the Arizona Cardinals.

Why don't you throw another parade? That's all you are. But your coach has got a book. And Lane Johnson's calling out everybody like the Patriots, a real dynasty. And you got a banner in your locker room. And Malcolm Jenkins is like, pass, hard pass. This is why I always supported Malcolm Jenkins in all this anthem stuff, because he wasn't divisive.

He was a grown-up. He had opinions. He had causes he cared about, but he handled it like a man. He wasn't trying to pick fights. He was trying to get things solved. It's why I like him. This is how adults talk. Remember, Lane Kiffin was on my show earlier this week.

And he addressed the rumors that Alabama cheat, saving cheat, save it. Oh, he's got all the best players. He must cheat. And here's what Lane Kiffin said. I used to sit in staffing as a head coach. And an assistant coach would lose a player to another program. and they say, oh, they cheated.

You know, they bought the player. People just say that to take blame off of, okay, why did we lose the player? You know, could we have done something better in the recruiting process to sign the player? So we're just going to say someone else cheated because, you know, that makes us look better. People saying, Nick Saban, well, it's like cheating because he has better players than everyone. Well, they didn't just walk. They just didn't walk onto campus and through the doors. You know, he spent time getting them.

He's the best recruiter in the world because of the time that he spends. The only cheating they do is that he just works harder than everybody else. Nick Saban's got, what, five, six national titles. I lost count. I told the story a couple years ago. He won a national championship. He was running off the field. He ran into the locker room and he went over to his agent, Jimmy Sexton.

I have this documented and he said to Jimmy Sexton, all right, this isn't easy. It's just put more pressure on us for next year. That's how winners think. That's how legends think. Philadelphia, though, got big banner in the locker room. Hey, we're better than the Lions. We got one more than the Jags. Okay, we thought Seattle was going to roll.

Because Seattle like Philadelphia. That's a good coach. Seattle like Philadelphia. Had a great all-time quarterback. Wentz and Russell Wilson, those are Hall of Fame talents. Seattle had a great deal. defense like Philadelphia. Seattle was in a division where they had a rival in San Francisco, but they were better than them and were going to dominate them. And Seattle is now just

dysfunctional. I mean, when I think of Seattle right now, I'm like, that's what I think. They're just dysfunctional. Malcolm Jenkins. Should be noted, Adrian Brody won an Oscar. And Rich Beam won a major in golf. You want to be Jackson. You want to be Jackson. You want to be Wambi Tiger or just want to be a guy. So fired up today. You should like that, Joy, because you grew up a Steeler fan. Oh, I love that. Not an Eagles fan.

I love that. No, it's right, though. It's why it's so hard to repeat. Especially, you're always talking about teams that have nicknames and catchphrases. They had a whole gimmick going on last year with the dog masks and they're the underdogs and no one gives them any chance. and I mean, I admittedly didn't give them a chance against the Patriots, but that's got to go now. Yeah.

Now you have to. Yeah, dog masks was adorable. Bring them out on Halloween, then put them away and win football games. You're not the underdog anymore. No, now you're the target. Let me shift gears to this. Some people just have more influence for a variety of reasons. You know, Jerry Jones, when he first came into this league, you know, as a cowboys,

who was this cocky oil man, this risk taker, him and Jimmy fighting, him and Parcell's fighting. But I will say this over time. Jerry Jones has incredible influence in the National Football League. For years and my entire life, I used to live in Vegas. My entire life, the NFL is like, no, we don't do point spreads. Vegas is evil. No good. We can't talk Vegas.

A couple years ago, Jerry Jones is like, I think it's about time to have a football franchise in Las Vegas. And what do you know? Two months later, they've been. voted and Las Vegas is going to get the Raiders. That was Jerry. Because for 50 years, my entire life, I lived in Vegas. Every time you brought it up, no, that's good. We don't even know what betting lines are.

We don't, excuse me, nobody bets football. We don't want to disqual. Jerry's like, I like Vegas. It's time for Vegas. They moved to Vegas. By the way, Los Angeles went a lot of years without the NFL. Rams Raiders gone. Then Jerry talked to his buddy, Stan Cronkey.

He said, we're becoming an entertainment sport. We're a TV show more than a game. We've got to get to Los Angeles. Los Angeles. Remember he said that on the show one time? Didn't you love the way Jerry said that? Los Angeles. Los Angeles.

And suddenly the Rams didn't have a team, and Los Angeles had a team. Jerry's got influence. Des Bryant, let me say, go ahead of this, Des Bryant, doesn't have a team. Doug Baldwin of the Seahawks yesterday, I won't be healthy, they're a mess at wide receiver. The New England Patriots, did they cut another receiver yesterday, are desperate at wide receiver. The Cleveland Browns are desperate for talent. The Jags just lost Marquis Lee. Des Bryant this morning, admitted, yeah, I'll probably play a little bit later in the year.

Browns pass, Patriots pass, Jags pass. I think this is Jerry Jones influence. Jerry's not doing it to be mean-spirited, but when Jerry talks, people listen. And Jerry Jones has always been player-friendly, a bit of an enabler, looks often the other way. And Jerry Jones, and Desk can still play.

Had 850 yards last year in six touchdowns. He can still play. May not be a one, but he can certainly be a two in a lot of teams. and when Jerry said, we're going to get him out of the building. With the Cowboys current wide receiving group, with Jason Witten on retirement, with all that,

having no receivers, Alan Hearns and Cole Beasley, Jerry's like, we're going to move him out of the building. When Jerry talks about Vegas, Los Angeles, and Jerry was talking there, this guy's a lot,

he's a lot of work. That's Jerry's influence. Now, I'm not saying Jerry did it on purpose. Maybe Jerry, and this would be strange, but doesn't quite even understand how much influence he has. But I've watched this guy, Dallas is dying for a star receiver, a big presence. Des can still play, all-time franchise leader in touchdowns. Again, Desh isn't Julio Jones. He's not Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham.

But the dude can play 850 yards and six touchdowns last year with a young quarterback who battled an offensive line, running game and noise all year long in a really good division. Yeah, that's that Jerry Jones once again, without even knowing it this time, has major influence. Los Angeles. Los Angeles. One of my favorite all-time fights. So I've been watching the hard knock. There was a lot of good TV on last night. There was Hard Knocks. And then there was the shop with LaBronaut. on James. And there's a lot of stuff. A lot of stuff to get through. And I'll get through most of it coming up next. You know, the thing about hard knocks, that HBO show, it does pull back the curtain. Remember the Jeff Fisher, L.A. Ram staff, you were watching it thinking, this is, they're just dysfunctional. And then you watch Rex Ryan had come off like an AFC championship game.

And you're watching Rex Ryan and you're thinking, this, it just looks too loose and too goofy. It does. pull back the curtain. Reality shows may be edited and they may, you know, in a lot of times on the old, you know, music networks, they'd ply everybody with alcohol and you say stupid stuff, but they do give you glimpses of the truth. And has there been in four episodes a single moment of the Cleveland Browns where you thought, damn, that's a really elite coaching staff. No. Hugh Jackson's likable is all get out, but he just wants to be everybody's friend. Todd Haley screaming at everybody. Yesterday, he had to apologize for screaming.

Greg Williams is just not 2018 material, and he got a cartoon character as an offensive line coach about 3.50, and he says you shouldn't stretch. The only moment in the show where I thought, God, that is great coaching, came from an actual Browns player last night who's been in the building for four months, Michael Kendricks. Here it was.

All right, let's start with Nick Foles. Playing with Nick Foles, I realize on his long balls, his D-balls, he has like a tear-dropped effect. So corners in the timing is just a little slower on that ball coming in. 86, I think, is the best receiver on the team. You hit his ass over and over. He doesn't want any smoke. Big V.

V. that his size allows him to do what he does. He doesn't trust his feet at all. You get on him, his confidence will go down. I mean, he sat there for our TV viewers. We can only show the picture. We can't show all of it. Let me tell you something.

That was impressive. And then they showed the game against the Eagles, and he was right on everything. And that was like, oh, wow. That guy is, he is all buttoned up. But you got an O-line coach that's a cartoon character. character. Haley's screaming, then apologize. Hugh Jackson is incredibly likable, but he wants to meet everybody's friend.

And then Greg Williams, I mean, it just doesn't work in 2018. There's a reason he went from Fisher's bad staff to this staff. Like the hard knocks gives you a lot of, and that's why I say about Baker Mayfield, good luck. Carson Wentz can overcome that dysfunction. Andrew Luck can overcome that dysfunction. I've been critical of Cam Newton. He can overcome some of that dysfunction. Can Baker Mayfield, six feet tall, two-time walk-on?

Can he overcome that dysfunction? They have players. Now, I'm not saying they don't have players. I mean, when you're as bad as they are in any sport, and you keep getting number one, number two, number three, number four draft picks, they've got some talent. Denzel Ward Corner, Miles Garrett, the pass rusher, Jarvis Landry. They've spent some money on the old line.

They've got talent. But, man, the only teaching moment I've seen, and I was like blown away was from a player who's been on their roster for four months. You think if you watched Hard Knocks Patriots, you'd say, you know, this linebacker came over from Tennessee. That was the most impressive teaching moment I've seen on all the Hard Knocks episodes with Belichick.

I don't think you'd see that. Maybe I'm being a homer. I don't think that'd be the case. Joy Taylor with the News. Turn on the News. This is the Hurd Line News. So, you gave Sabin a lot of praise yesterday for being joky. I think he's funny. You think he's grumpy.

He is, everyone thinks he's grumpy. Not everyone. Most people think he's grumpy. We did a poll and you dominated. I did. And I think I would dominate with the Belichick poll as well. Although I do think that you think Belichick is very grumpy. Now, he's grumpy. Well, let's see, because he had some saving like jokes yesterday. So I don't see if you feel like he's loosening up.

Do you have an idea who those players are right now? Absolutely. Yeah. Do you think we didn't do it? I understand. I understand that you have players on your team. Yeah, sure. We, yeah. Players on other team also that other players, you know, for specific to.

Yeah, we're looking at all 31 teams. Yeah. What do you think we're doing? We're in camp. We don't have watermelon rolls and Edmund contests and all that. Yeah. We're working on football. We look at our team.

We look at 31 teams. Yeah. That guy is Chris Rock. That was hysterical. That is some of the funniest stand-up I have seen since Seinfeld. It's very loose. That's Belichick getting loose. He just doesn't move his lips.

Even when he's funny, you're like, could you come again? I can't quite decipher what you're saying. He was responding to a question of he was scouting free agents. That's what his response was. But that's usual press conference bill, though, when he's making jokes. You remember when he did this one? I believe this was last year. Okay.

I'm a football coach. I'm not a doctor. The medical staff is the medical staff. I coached the team. Medical people handle the injuries. They don't call plays. I don't do surgery. We have a great deal there.

Works out good. I'm the coach. I do what's best for the football team. I know why we can't understand that. You know, it was two years ago. You know, he smiles with his eyes. That's what it is. He does.

When he's making a joke, he does a little... You have to watch very closely. It's very subtle. It's this tiniest little twinkle that he isn't. He won't bust an actual smile. His humor is so subtle it doesn't actually exist. So speaking of the Patriots, Gronk, maybe this is why Belichick's in such a good mood,

Gronk says he is ready for the season and he feels better than ever. Just love playing the game. I mean, I feel good right now. I definitely feel like 100 times better than I did last year during training camp. And when you're feeling good, you love playing the game. And I feel good enough to where I thought I can come back, go throughout the whole season, go throughout camp, and just keep playing the game and be enjoying it.

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. about 13 games per year, but maybe this is the Guerrero effect. Yeah, you're being kind on 13 games a year. That's what averages? Over what? Over what? 13 games a year? Yeah.

How about the last three years? Well, he's a broken down a wheelbarrel by November. I mean, listen, Grong is a huge guy. He gets tackled hard. He's had a bunch of injuries, but he's really their most reliable and consistent player on the offensive side's Tom Brady. Do you realize in September he will not only be their best receiver,

he'll be their only receiver that would be considered average or above? Like they're down, Tom Brady said yesterday, I saw a quote from Brady, he goes, things haven't worked out great at the receiver position. I mean, that's a real admission from Tommy. He was like, yeah, I mean, we have some things that have not worked out. So he's starting to let the doubt creep into? I said yesterday, he's been cranky all preseason,

and it's like, you know, some of it may be Alex Guerrero questions. Some of it is he's going into his last year. He's watching what Ben has and Breeze has and golf has and Matt Ryan has. And he's sitting there thinking, waitress, could you fill my cut with some coffee here? I got nothing here. And he's watching what Eli has, which is Odell. And he just became the NFL's highest paid wide receiver.

Yep. And he was asked about his new contract yesterday. And he had this to say. It sounds crazy enough, but I don't feel like I've done anything really since I've been here. It's not what I have goals for myself. I don't feel like I've been able to truly achieve them, even with the success that I've had. You know, it's not really where I want to be. You know, like I said, before I was even in the NFL, I want to be legendary.

Not about, yeah, the money is great. You can take care of your family. You can take care of kids one day that you'll possibly have. But my goal was always to be in the Hall of Fame to win trophies, to be able to leave a legacy that will be remembered way past any money. that you made. I like to hear that. That's exactly what he should say. Right. Well, O'Dell has everything else that he needs. He has the fame. He has the money now. Yes. You know, he has the team around him. He has the city. Now it's just a matter of going out and getting the championships that you need to cement your legacy.

And by the way, remember, Derek Rose had all the shoe deals and all the money and all the fame and the award. And then it just ended because he got hurt again. With O'Dell, he's at sort of that Derek Rose stage where he's now global. He's got a shoe deal. He's got a award. He's got the catch. He's got... Now is the next six years can he become Larry Fitzgerald? Oh, it's all eyes on O'Dell now.

I mean, this contract was circulated for a while now, and they gave it to him, and he earned it. But now he has the money, and so he has nothing else that he's working on. So he's saying it's like a weight off his shoulders. Now it's just a focus on winning. Because up until this point, it hasn't... Your greatness has not translated into a championship for your team.

I'll go back to something I said yesterday. There's a guy in the NFL named Pat Shermer, a boring old coach, is that watch Case Keenham drop this year because he lost Pat Shermer and watch Eli's numbers skyrocket with Odell because of Pat Shermer. Part of the deal, reason you sign this contract, we have Sean McVeigh, we've seen what he's done to a quarterback. We have Kyle Shanahan, we've seen what he's done. Shermer's in that class.

they're betting basically that Shermer can elevate Eli for two to three more great years with Odell Sequin Nate Solders. So it's going to be exciting to watch. If we got a new coordinator, a new coach in New York that has this McVeigh talent, that has this Shanahan talent, I think that's a big reason you sign him. Yeah. Joy with the news.

Well, that's the news. And thanks for stopping by. The Hurd-Lie News. Oh, here we go. He comes on the show. and just fires at me. And I almost need like a Captain America shield to deflect the harsh criticism from my friend via the Coward Global Satellite Network.

From New York, Nick Wright, first things first. Okay, so there was a show on last night called The Shop, and it's LeBron James, Candace Parker, Maverick Carter, John Stewart, OBJ, Snoop, a bunch of famous people. Dremon Green. And Dremon, of the many things said, Dremon Green comes out and he says, you know, LeBron really became great four years ago, and that's when LeBron decided, hey, I'm going to be my own guy.

And I'm thinking, really? LeBron just became great four years ago. You give me, Nick, a timeline because you're the official encyclopedic LeBron James chronicler. Go through his career. I think Draymond's sort of embellishing here or underselling LeBron. Well, listen, Draymond is stating that four years ago he sought up. up close and personal. It's no coincidence that four years ago is the first time Draymond and LeBron faced off in the finals, which is why he's using that line of demarcation. But I'll use a much simpler one. May 31st, 2007. What happened that day? That was game five of the 2007 Eastern

Conference Finals, otherwise known as the 48 special game against the Pistons. From that moment forward, LeBron has been the best player in the world, but it did not end there. Then you take the game seven performance against the San Antonio Spurs to give LeBron his second straight championship in a season where he won his fourth MVP in five years. Should have been six straight, but I won't harp on that. With a 37 and 12 performance, that was the day he got on the corner of the all-time pantheon top five players. And then there was something Dremond, of course, saw up close and very personal and left him

crying in a car in a parking lot after the game recruiting Kevin Durant. And that was the final three games of the 2016 NBA finals where LeBron put on the greatest three game performance in history of the sport against the greatest team in the history of the sport up to that point. And that was the moment he met and passed Michael Jordan. Since then, he's averaged a triple double in one finals. The following year took a team that otherwise would have won 20 games to 50 wins, put up 45 in a game seven, hit a game winner, swept a 59 win team, then hit another game

winner and won a game seven on the road against the number one defense and basketball before going 51, 9 and 9 against Raymond in game one of the NBA finals with a weekend supporting cast before, of course, the referees and his teammates stole that game from it. So that's, that's the actual timeline. Dremont gave the more abbreviated version, but I at least see where he was going. Yes. See, I told you. It's an encyclopedia. I, it's a I like LeBron and I can't even, you know, match that stuff. I'd need Google. And shout out, by the way, just real quick on the shop.

Shout out to your and my mutual friend Maverick Carter for continuing to evolve as his own mogul outside of LeBron. That is one hell of a show we put together last night and I can't wait to see the next one. Name drop. I'm having lunch with him in a couple of weeks. That sounded really impressive. I'm sure you are, Colin. That L.A. life. That L.A. Celebrity Life.

Whatever. Okay, so my, I said it started the show today. I said I have a new favorite athlete in the NFL, Malcolm Jenkins. And he says, oh, good Lord, I hate the Super Bowl banner they put in our locker room. And I was saying this, Nick, I said, if you think about it, in their own state, the Steelers have six rings, they have one. In their own division, the Cowboys have five, the Giants, four, the Redskins, three, the Eagles have one. In fact, in their own city, the Villanova Wildcats are the. current dynasty in Philadelphia, not the Eagles. You know I'm a grinder. Okay, I admit it's kind of

obsessive, but I look at Philadelphia and I don't think they'll repeat. It's not because they don't have Wentz in a great offensive line, but I do think they look distracted, a little bit like Seattle. Do you buy into that? Well, I think they would take the year Seattle followed their Super Bowl up with, which was getting within a play of repeating. Here's what I do think, though. I think Malcolm him hit this spot on. Malcolm's one of the smartest, most erudite football players we have. I've had the pleasure of sitting with him for a couple hours talking things outside of football, but he has this exactly right. I try to take the Eagles at their word. What was the theme of last season? Joy Taylor said this a half hour ago. We're underdogs. We're selling the masks. We're

wearing the masks. We are saying nobody believed in us up to an including right before they got on the parade buses. They sent out a clip of me saying, me of all people saying they weren't going to win the Super Bowl. And then Jason Kelsey gets on the stage at the parade and says, no one believed in us. This guy was on roids. This guy can't stay healthy. We're all underdogs. That's now gone forever. You are the defending champs with your MVP quarterback coming back. So they are going to have to find a new way to motivate themselves because every team that comes to play them will obviously be motivated. That I think is an issue for them. And the other thing that I think is an issue is if you look at who they drew in the schedule, it's not just the Vikings and the Rams

because of first place schedule. They drew the NFC South, as did everyone in their division. That ain't great. They drew the AFC South, the division that produced two playoff teams and the two teams that didn't make the playoffs have Andrew Luck, I believe your God's son, and Deshawn Watson coming back to their teams next year. So, like, it's a tough schedule. I still think they have the most talented offensive and defensive lines in the league. But your skepticism, I think, is warranted. You know, Odell Beckham signed, and, you know, I've gone back and forth on Odell,

and I thought, I said this the other day. Yesterday I said, part of this is Pat Schumer, is that if you give me Sean McVeigh, you give me Kyle Shanahan, you give me Pat Shermer, Pat Schumer just made Case Keenham get MVP votes. Case Keenham is undrafted. He's Case Keenom. That's who he is. He's case Keenom.

Case closed. And so I'm thinking to myself with O'Dell Beckham, you know, the theatrics aside, you can make an argument. Look at the best teams in the league. Pittsburgh's got receivers. Atlanta's got receivers. The Rams got receivers. The Chargers, you start adding up. And maybe with all these rule changes, the catch rules overturned, the helmet rule is now

going to be enforced. You've always been an O'Dell Beckham guy. I'm kind of like more today. I kind of get it. A little evolution. My partner, Chris Carter, is going to be so thrilled. You no longer think receivers are, I think, to quote you, just icing on the cake, not the actual cake.

I think that's a direct comment. Yeah. Well, and as far as O'Dell goes, who are three best receivers in football? You can argue out the order. O'Del, Antonio, and Julio. Who does Antonio have throwing to him? Big Ben. Who does Hulu have throwing to him?

Matt Ryan. Who does O'Dell have throwing into him? Yeah. Eli Manning, who the year before he, O'Dell got there, had 27 interceptions on the year and a 69 quarterback rating. Odell's the most impactful receiver in the sport. You can argue he's the most impactful non-quarterback in the sport. You saw it last year when he got hurt.

What happened to the Giants? Oh, that's right. they went three and 13. If you take his worst individual season of catches, of yards, of touchdowns, you get 91, 1305, and 10. Chris said today on the show that he thinks somewhere in this contract, he could either have a 2,000-yard receiving year or a 20 touchdown year. That's the type of talent this guy has.

And if the biggest distraction is some emotion on the sideline and some histrionics, I will always deal with that. I think the Giants made a mistake by going with Barclay instead of a quarterback. But by making that mistake, what they have done is they've said we have a window of right now, maybe next year, in order to reach whatever potential they have. They needed Odell in the fold. Signing him was smart and I expect a monster year from Odell Beckham. Okay, most receivers are still icing.

But a couple of them are such good icing that they seep into the cake. and they become part of the cake. And Russell Westbrook's so selfish, he averages a dozen assists a game. I get it, Colin. I totally follow. Nick Wright. Good talking to you, buddy. You as always.

Good to see you, my friend. Okay, James Harris and Rob Parker. Yeah, I mean, I was one of these. I don't get it. Then we got rule changes. Then we got Pat Schumer. And I'm like, yeah, you can make the argument now. You can make the argument.

The teams I like in the NFL this year outside of New England, They've all got great receiving course, and that's part of the reason I like Pittsburgh to win the AFC this year. Plus, who eats cake without icing? Oh, there's an olive oil cake I eat. What did you just say? Oh, it's delicious. It's olive oil. Did you just say olive oil cake?

Oh, it's one of the best things I've ever eaten in my life. Listen, when you, when your palate matures, you too will appreciate olive oil cake. I mean, I'll try it, but I think I'll probably stick with the, uh, It didn't have any icing. No, no icing. No, no, it's just with tea or coffee. Oh, good. I could eat it for breakfast.

Sorry, guys. It sounds nauseating, but it's not. Coming up next, Tony Romo once again proves he is really, really smart. Talking about my favorite or second favorite player in the NFL. That's next. Boy, it is great to have you in. You know, Marlon Brando is considered a great all-time actor, right? he had seven or eight great movies.

He also had about 10 duds. Russell Crow is considered a great actor. He's had six or seven amazing movies. I love Russell Crow. He's had a bunch of bombs. If you want to be considered a great actor, don't play it safe. You've got to have many major hits. People don't count the bombs.

Tom Hanks has bombs. Denzel's got bombs. It's not about that. It's about how high is your ceiling? No guy that plays it safe is considered an all-time great. You got to let it go. There's an old saying in finance. You can't save yourself to wealth.

You can save yourself to comfortable. You can save money 401K. You'll never be wealthy. You'll be comfortable. Want to get wealthy? Put all your chips in on a couple of companies. That's how you get rich. So I like risk takers.

That's why I like Sam Darnold. Sam Darnold is going to have big intercept. years. He had him at USC. But man, I saw him carry a team. Penn State, Texas. They had no business winning. He just put a team on his shoulders. Tony Romo says, this Darnold kid, oh, he's going to be good. To me, it was Sam Darnold. I really think Sam is going to be one of the great quarterbacks in the National Football League. I think he's got a chance before he finishes his career at some point to possibly be, you know, the top guy. As far as pure talent and the things that I look for, they found themselves a player.

He's going to be good. You know, to say he's going to be great right away, we'll see. But he's going to be really, really good. He went on to say, I'll put this up for my TV audience. I think whenever he comes out, whether he's on fire or comes out average, I don't really think it matters. It doesn't matter about his future. He's going to be outstanding.

Yes, he is going to be outstanding. Don't rush to Twitter because Baker Mayfield completes a slant pattern and the guy breaks it for 50-yard touchdown. That's on the receiver. Everybody in this league can throw a slant. Okay. Let me give you, and I'm a big believer in take risks. Tyrod Taylor and Alex Smith don't throw picks. They both got traded.

Alex Smith keeps getting traded by great coaches. He doesn't throw any picks. Tyrod Taylor got Buffalo to the playoffs. They traded him. They don't throw any picks. It's like my man, young Gizi says, scared money, don't make money. Sam Darnel's going to throw picks. That's pretty amazing.

Young Gizi knows where is at. Okay, let me give you three years and three players. Brett Farr, 15th year in the NFL, through 29 interceptions in his 15th year. He's still beloved. Peyton Manning in his fourth year through 23 interceptions. Drew Brees, the year after the Super Bowl, through 22 picks. But they're all-time great because they're sealing when they're on, when they're hot, when they're on fire. They can carry a franchise.

Big Ben a couple of years ago had 16 picks. He only played 12 games. You can't save yourself to wealth. You can save yourself to comfortable. If you just want to be comfortable, you have a nice little house in the name. neighborhood and you go to go to Applebee's twice a week. You get a golf. Go for it.

I'm not anti- But if you want to get wealthy, can't have scared money. You got to roll it. My financial advisor is Young Jeasy. I don't go to Morgan Stanley, Smith Barney. I go to Young Jeasy. That's what I'm talking about. So Donald's going to throw some picks. Who gives her?

I love Andrew Luck. He throws picks. Big Ben throw. picks two Super Bowls. Eli throws picks, two Super Bowls. Throw it down the field. Yeah, I mean, you want to throw more receptions than picks. That's kind of where the balance. That's where the balance tips sometimes. Yeah, young GZ also says throw more touchdowns than interceptions. That's part of his financial plan. Yes. I think it's the most impressed you've ever been with me in the history of the show. Yeah, you know, the funny thing is I was going to interrupt you and say that,

but I was like, I don't know. I don't know if he's going to, he's going to get it. And then, you know, There's full surprises. Pow. Yes. So I'm watching this. It's really fascinating to me to watch that show with LeBron James last night called The Shop. And, you know, they're, O'Dell Beckham, I feel like I should save it for the top of the show. I'm going to shave it for the top of it.

It's too good to just hurry through, and I've only got about a minute and a half here. I got to tell you, you know, they've done a lot of barbershop shows. You know, we've seen a couple of these days. Alabama football had one, and LeBron's got one. I mean, they do barbershop shows, but there were two moments in that show last night. One with LeBron, which was really interesting, and it's why the Lakers is so fascinating. And one with Odell Beckham, which is equally fascinating. And I know I've been critical of Odell Beckham.

I know I have been. But I will say something, and you're going to think, oh, I'm a flip-flopper. You don't have to be the greatest at anything to be the most impactful. McDonald's didn't invent the hamburger and has never had the best burger, but they changed the hamburger industry. You don't have to, there's not a town in America where you're like, what's the best burger in town? McDonald's.

They didn't invent it. And they don't have the best burger in most towns. There's usually a kind of a boutique, cool hamburger joint, you know. But they changed, Ray Kroc changed the hamburger industry. And so a lot of times, you know, I mean, Odell Beckham's never going to be as good as Larry Fitzgerald. I don't think it's possible. I don't think he's going to be as good as Randy Moss.

I don't think he's going to be as good as Calvin Johnson. I mean, he's a small athlete. He's going to get hurt. He's already been hurt. He's missed 17 games in four years. But his impact on the sport is remarkable. And I'm going to get into that. I am.

We're packed today. Rob Parker, James Harrison, the former Pittsburgh Steeler, mostly, and Patriot briefly will be joining us today. So I want to start our number two with this. There was a show on last night. LeBron had his new show. It debuted. It was called The Shop. It was right after Hard Knocks on HBO.

It's kind of the barbershop thing with his best friend. Maverick Carter. You had Michael Bennett. You had O'Dell Beckham. You had Snoop Dog, Candace Parker, Draymond Green, a bunch of famous people, right? I'm probably leaving a couple out. A bunch of famous people. John Stewart, you know, the stand-up comedian political guy was there. And there's two moments in the show. Let me start with the first. This is LeBron talking to like John Stewart about evolving and how to keep it going, going, going. Here's a, here's a, and Snoop, Here's a little taste. To be able to age and continue to reinvent himself year after year,

decade after decade and still be relevant and still be able to have people follow him, that shit is hard as hell. It's not easy to age gracefully. I left. How did you know, though? I began to make decisions based on laziness. It was time for someone else to have that chance. Most people don't do that, John.

I was satisfied. So you won't look at? LeBron to retire? That's Michael Bennett. Here's what's really interesting to me about the Lakers, is that I have watched every noteworthy game

LeBron has played. I watched this first. You know, I've been watching all of them. Certainly every playoff game he's ever played, I've watched all of them. We have seen different stages of LeBron. Here's the three stages of LeBron we've seen so far. I call it the freight train LeBron.

This was the first time in Cleveland. Didn't win a championship, but he was raw. He wasn't terribly nuanced. He was just bigger, stronger, faster than anybody we ever seen. Even his first game in the NBA are like, dude, if that guy puts 10 pounds on, how are you going to stop him? He was not fully developed, but every night he would chase down and block somebody like an All-Star shot and he'd be like, what hell is that?

I never seen that. I didn't see Michael do that. I didn't see Byrd do that. That was the freight train, LeBron. The second stage of LeBron's career, to me, was Miami. Now he's joining Pat Riley, Hall of Famer, D. Wade, Hall of Famer. Chris Bosch. Now he's playing with stars.

Now the standards are higher. Got to win a ring there. And we saw his game had some holes. Not very good posting up low. The second stage was not winning titles. That's not what it was. The second stage was playing with stars, being a little more coached. sometimes having to rely on others to win games.

The third stage in LeBron's career was the last year in Miami and the Cleveland run. He got really, really efficient and added a deadly three-pointer. He's like, listen, man, I see the game changing. I got to shoot threes. I can't go to the rim and get knocked over. And his game got, like, incredibly efficient. We saw it last year, most efficient player in the league. What makes the Lakers interesting is will we see a fourth stage?

Because you're going to get a combo deal in L.A. You're going to get the efficiency of LeBron developed in his last year in Miami and in Cleveland with Kyrie. And you're going to get that first Cleveland roster with no other stars. That's really interesting to me. We had the freight train, the playing with others, and the efficient three ball growing into and remaining the best player in the game. But now we got a new team that looks a lot like that first Cleveland roster.

Coulda what should have been good. Do we know any of those guys are great? Do we know Lawanzo's going to be great? Do we know Brandon England's going to be great and stay healthy? Do we know Kyle Kuzma? It's going to not have a sophomore slump. So you get kind of the Cleveland roster first run, but you get all the efficiency and nuance of the last couple of runs.

and I think it's really exciting. And by the way, I'm not sure. I'm not sure what's going to happen in L.A. I know they're not going to be terrible, but they may not ever win a championship. My guess is they'll get one. Okay, the second part of the show, the shop, and again, it was a bunch of stars,

was O'Dell Beckham Jr. There was a bunch of stuff on the show, but I thought this was really interesting. He opened up about how he feels he is perceived by you and me, the public. I really feel like a zoo animal. Like, that's where life's gone for me. You know, you used to take your kids at a zoo,

and we used to be like, you know, I want to see the lions. Or let's go see the lions. And you go out there and the lions are laid out. You know what I mean? It's like, why aren't they doing lion stuff? You know what I mean? Like, I got people who call, O'Dell, dance. And it's like, to me, that doesn't feel good.

But it's like, damn, that's where life became. But can you ever really detach from that? This is where it's really interesting to me. You know, when I see O'Dell Beckham, I've said he's the first NBA player in the NFL. And I would compare him a little bit to Steph Curry. Steph Curry is never going to be as good as LeBron. Steph Curry's not as good as magic.

He's not as good as Michael. He's not as dominating as wilt. He's not as powerful as Shaq. But Steph Curry, I think, is the most impactful player in the history of the orange ball. He eliminated centers. He turned it into a more skilled game. We have a revolution that's going on now in college and high school. Go to a YMCA.

It ain't working on low post. Not those passing drills. You go to a YMCA. Can you hit a three? Can't sit down. Next guy can. You don't have to be the greatest to be the most impactful. And I feel similarly with OBJ.

He's never going to be as talented as Randy Moss as he's not going to have the career of Larry Fitzgerald. He won't last that. that long. He's not big enough. And like Steph Curry, we've already seen injuries and there may be more to come. But Odell Beckham is different. You go to a football practice high school in the country. You got dyed hair, one hand catches, you got a lot of flash, and the coaches are getting more and more used to it. That is the reality now of a lot of high school and college football. is Larry Fitzgerald as good as anybody I've ever seen, and Calvin Johnson would still be playing today with Tom Brady,

giving you 17 touchdowns a year. He just ended up in a dysfunctional organization. But Odell, to me, is Steph Curry. Remember, David Beckham was never, ever the best soccer player in the world. He's really not Ronaldo. He's not close. He's not messy. But David Beckham was the most important soccer player,

probably outside of Pele ever. movies, Spice Girl, model, underwear ads, has come over to help the MLS. We didn't ask MESSY to come over here. We asked David Beckham. You don't have to be the best. Steph Curry has more global impact

on the history of the game itself, not choose, the game, than Michael Jordan and LeBron. He's that impactful. He eliminated the non-skilled big. Can't even draft him now. That's got to be a second round pick. Guys, tough. Doesn't matter.

Can he shoot? No, out. Next guy up. So Odell Beckham, he really is different. He is the, I can remember years ago watching TV. You forget, we, you know, golfers have always made money on their clubs and basketball players have always made money on their shoes, right? Since I, you know, since Showtime Lakers, Larry Bird Magic. Even I think Dr. Jay had a converse ad years and years ago. I think it was converse. But I can remember, it wasn't that long ago when Donovan McNabb played.

I remember sitting watching television one time. and Donovan McNabb is doing a chunky Campbell soup at. And I remember watching it thinking, man, NFL guys don't do ads. I'd never even thought about it before. I'm like, Donovan McNabb has an ad. And then Farrv got into him. Then Peyton Manning really got into him. But O'Dell Beckham is just a perimeter player coming off an injury.

He is a global icon. Peyton Manning was never global. Brett Farrb was amazing. Brett Farb wasn't global. This kid's like an international soccer star. And the public is, I mean, people come up to him and he can't do dark glasses. Like this kid is Steph. He is the one-hand catch.

I mean, the net, the boat, the flare, the hair. Like, he's different. There's not a lot like him. Now, he's got to stay healthy. Or else instead of Steph Curry, he's going to end up being Derek Rose, which has got his shoes, got his money, got his global icon status, but can't stay healthy. And I think that's a real question, because he's missed in four years, 17 games. But he is different.

I mean, he is the first NBA player in the National Football League. And the New York Giants are like, you know, the Wall Street Giants. Well, yeah, that's a big part of the reason why they paid him. Sports is entertainment also. Yes. You know, everybody's not going to win a Super Bowl every year. What else do you bring to the table? If you're competitive and you have a superstar, that matters.

Aaron Rogers, Joy, is a favorite to win the MVP. Everybody compares Aaron to Brady, and you're so wrong. Aaron compares to a player that's an all-time great that nobody ever connects him to, but I'm not sure it's going to end as well for Aaron as it did for this all-time legend. That's coming up next. It's expected to be the largest in NFL history and will tie him to Green Bay well beyond his two years. Now, the downside of that, and I think he's earned every penny, the downside is the more you pay the quarterback, the less help you can give the quarterback. And to this point, even with getting a little bit of a savings rate on Aaron Rogers, they haven't surrounded him with much because now Aaron faces two real obstacles.

Green Bay is not a free agent destination. That is inarguable. And secondly, he's now going to be the richest player in the league. and that's going to limit some of your flexibility as a team. Aaron's great. There's no question. It's very interesting. We always mention Aaron and Brady because, you know, they've both played at the same time. But Tom Brady's always been Joe Montana.

Precise had the legendary head coach of his generation. Coachable, deadly accurate, late draft picks, chip on their shoulder. Aaron Rogers to me has always been John Elway. Aaron's not Tom Brady. Aaron Rogers is John Elway. Smartest quarterback in his prime in the entire league. Legendary arm. Not a runner, but really mobile.

Little cocky, California guy, played college ball in the Bay Area. And with both, it feels like, shouldn't they have won more Super Bowls? Brady's always been Montana. Aaron's John Elway. Now, here's the dilemma for Aaron. Elway for 15 years, like Aaron Rogers, was considered the golden child of the league, the smartest, the best arm, the greatest pure talent.

He just wasn't winning enough. Mr. Fourth Quarter comeback, but until he got Terrell Davis, couldn't win. And then when John Elway did win, he retired and his contemporary rival Dan Marino never won a ring. So for John Elway, had he not won his last Super Bowl, dropped a mic left, and had Dan Marino actually won instead of him the last years, we would not look at John Elway the same way.

You know what we'd say? A little cocky, one title, by the way, the guys around him one more. That's what Aaron Rogers faces. Aaron now is in a market that hasn't shown the ability to attract free agents. That is a fact. He is now the highest paid player. He deserves all of it, but that will limit them in free agency and extensions. What if Aaron ends with just one?

Six more years, one. By the way, his contemporaries, Tom Brady? He's got a trophy case with five of them. Big Ben's got two. Eli's got two. What happens if Drew Breeze gets one more? He's got to and he'll have all the records. It shrinks Aaron Rogers.

John Elway, like Aaron, was the smartest guy, the most talented guy, the golden arm, Bay Area, little cocky, media loved him. But John needed that last trophy, retire, and his contemporary didn't have any. Elway's the man, oh, was better than Marino, I knew it. But Aaron's contemporary is stacking trophies. And Ben's got more. And Eli's got more. And if Drew Breeze and that Saints team, and they may be good enough, they probably are.

He gets another. And Aaron doesn't? What is he? This contract is completely deserved. And Aaron probably doesn't care. Oh, who are we kidding? They all care. If Drew Breeze wins another title.

We're going to look around in 20 years of Aaron doesn't and say, well, I mean, Brady got to eight, nine Super Bowls, and Ben had two, and Eli had two, and Breeze had two, and they got all the records. And he's a little cocky and kind of difficult to coach. And teammates called him out. And this contract is going to limit what Green Bay can do. And they've always been a barstool missing a leg anyway.

Free agents don't want to play there. So I think he deserves every penny. I hate the franchise tag. I think guys like Aaron Rogers, should have far more leverage. He thinks I don't like him. I do. I think he's an all-timer.

But never forget John Elway. And two reasons we remember him fondly. Title, retired, and his contemporary never want to ring Dan Marino. That's not possible because all of errands now are stacking them. And outside of Drew Brees, they got more. Now, Peyton's got two, Brady's got five, Ben's got two, Eli's got two, and New Orleans is good enough to win another or two with that young roster. Interesting stuff.

Joy Taylor with the news. No, no, no, no, no. Turn on the news. This is the herd line news. Sorry, you're talking about pre-agents not wanting to go to Green Bay. When you think of the most desired NFL city, what's the first town that comes to mind? The most desirable NFL city? Oh, I don't know.

I mean, Dallas, no state tax, the brand. I mean, what do you ask? Like, the most attractive city to go to? The point is Cleveland is not the one that caught. Cleveland's not it. And Johnny Mansell went on Kevin Hart's web series and said he hated Cleveland as soon as he got off the plane. All my boys, everyone in my corner was telling me,

you don't want to go to Cleveland. Like, fuck that. I looked at it. I was more optimistic about it. I looked at the players they had. I was cool with it. Once I landed and went to Berea, Ohio for the first time, I was like, can I go back to college?

I don't know anybody. I don't know where I'm at. It's cold. I don't like it. That's pretty much how it was. I mean, Kevin, look, Johnny Mansell is what it is. The Mansell era, whatever you want to call it from the NFL,

is what it is at this point. But Kevin Hart is right. I mean, how entitled can you possibly be? Did Johnny Mansell say anything that we didn't warn you about? That's exactly what, Myself, I said it. I said he's entitled.

He's a rich kid. I remember when he got drafted. I said, you think he's going to want to roll in Cleveland? He's going to be on a private jet every week and he can get out of that town. Like, I'm not mad at Johnny Mantel. This is what he showed us that he was before he got drafted. Just people show you who they are. Believe them.

I mean, look, I'm from Pittsburgh. We don't hide our disdain for Cleveland, Ohio. Okay. But, I mean, you're drafted into the NFL. Have a little humility. And by the way, who are these people around you telling you that you're too good to go to Cleveland? What? You need new friends. I'm sorry. You should have nothing of people around you telling you to go crush it wherever you go. You're too good to go to Cleveland. Touchdown in Cleveland. You don't like it. Oh, I don't know anybody.

What are you talking about? You don't know anybody. You know, and it goes back to so, I don't want to pick on Johnny Mounts at this point. I don't either, but I mean, have some self-awareness. This is exactly what Johnny always was. Johnny wants to be the life of the party. Johnny wants to be funny. Johnny wants to be seen as authentic and real. Man, when you're a franchise quarterback,

it's like being the CEO of a company. Sometimes keep it to yourself. This, to me, is the biggest difference between Baker and Manzell's. Why I don't like the comparisons between the two of them. You watch Hard Knocks, you can see that Baker really wants to work and loves football. And football to Menzell is like, ah, you know, this is like something extra that I do, you know. It's just a thing. When you grow up rich, you don't need football.

Most guys in this sport that are great at football needed football. And there's nothing wrong with that. But you go back, you know, Terry Bradshaw, Brett Farb didn't come into this league rich. You know, a lot of the, you know, Joe Montana, late round pick, Brady, Russell, Wilson, Dak. A lot of the success stories, Drew Breeze was not a first round guy. Drew Breeze got passed up by all the big Texas schools. Most guys that work in this league have a chip on their shoulder. This is other level entitlement.

By the way, our very own Skip Bayliss is on Kevin Hart's show. It's called Cold as Balls, and they sit in the ice tubs. It's going to be out in the next couple weeks. Oh, I can't wait to watch that. Have you ever been in an ice tub before? Oh, God, they're brutal. Oh, they're just, I don't, they are, it is hard to explain. I don't like severe temperatures.

I don't like humidity and I don't like cold. I don't mind the humidity so much. I can deal with it, but the cold I am not built for, which is why. I no longer live in Pittsburgh. So America's team hasn't won a Super Bowl since 1996, and during his weekly radio hit, Jerry Jones revealed just how anxious he is to see his team back on top. It would be embarrassing. It would be shocking if you knew the size of the check I would write if it guaranteed me a Super Bowl.

And it would be obscene. There's nothing that I would do financially not to get a Super Bowl. It's kind of a funny notion because obviously that it's not something you can literally do. It's not baseball where you can just spend all the money and get all the best players. But I mean, you didn't have to spend that much more money. You probably would have had a few more if you didn't get rid of Jimmy Johnson. It's really fun. If you ever thought about this before, and I have.

I've gone on car rides and thought about this. If I owned a team, what kind of owner would I be? Oh, yeah, for sure. And there's no question. I would be more Mara of the Giants than Jerry Jones. I would just the way I, you know, even on our show, we have a guest booker. I don't interfere with it. I don't interfere with the spots.

I kind of let people do their thing. I do mine. And I never tell you, do, do, do, like you do her line. That's it. That's my personality. But I don't necessarily think I'd be the greatest owner because I probably wouldn't be demanding. I wouldn't instill fear.

And I'm not sure that would be the greatest owner even. Paul Allen doesn't get involved. Is he as good an owner as Jerry Jones? Jerry's got more rings. Yeah, I mean, some would argue it's better to be feared than just respected. But I think when it comes to being an owner, you don't necessarily have to be feared. Like I think someone like an owner like Mickey Erison, for example, is a very visible guy, you know, big personality and fun, but doesn't meddle in actual basketball things. Great with players.

But let's Pat Riley run the team because he hired a basketball brain for that reason. think the best leaders pick the best team and then allow them to do what their best at. So if you create an environment of we have the best people and we're a family and we support each other and everybody does what they're supposed to do, then it works. So to me, that's what would make sense. But finally, Jason Tatum didn't have the option of entering the league out of high school like his idol, Kobe Bryant. But he spoke with Sports Illustrated about the NBA rethinking the one and done rule and said

if one and done hadn't been a thing, I would have went straight out of high school. But now that I know what I know, I probably would have still went to college just for a year of getting bigger and stronger. But I feel like if you're ready, you should be able to go out of high school, which I agree. I understand the value of college. I went to college. But when it comes to this situation, if you're great at tennis, you don't have to go to college and play tennis. It doesn't make sense to me that if you're good enough in high school to go straight to the NBA, that you have to go to college for a year. Well, the reason they keep you out of football is the physical dangers is good at football.

players you are. I don't agree with that either. I agree with that a high school kid needs more time to develop its body. But if you had a high school phenom who was ready to go to the NFL and say workout on the practice squad, they should have that option. The idea that you have to go to college and play a sport for free that an entity is making billions of dollars off of is mind-blown to me. Yeah, basketball is also a sport where you can really recognize elite talent by 14. I mean, we were talking about LeBron at 15, Kobe Bryant at 16. Very rarely do you look at a 14-year-old player and say, oh, he's going to be, he's going to dominate the NFL.

Sure, because, I mean, and also there's so many more variables with injuries when it comes to football that you don't have with basketball. That kid could blow both of his knees out and not even make it through high school. Half of Alabama's great recruits, never do anything. Sure. And they're getting the best. But I really do think that the one in done rule is, it's just wrong. You shouldn't have to go to college.

My thing is if you go to college, though, should you do it like baseball? If you do decide to go to college, you don't have to. You've got to stay two years. If you're going to commit to us, give us two. But we have a G League. If you don't want to come, go to the G League. We'll pay $38,000 a year. Build up.

My thing is, I don't like the idea of coming to college basketball. I'm putting all this time to recruit in. You're there for a year. And I feel like you. I agree with you. It would help the college game, but that would force the NBA to have to. to develop their G League, which would mean more money. Which I think they're doing.

I think they believe the G League. They'd love to see the G League. And by the way, it's a lot better today than it was two years ago. I mean, it used to be the D League or something. Now they got Gatorade, the G League. G League has some glow up to do for sure. And I think that LeVar developing the JBA put a little light under the NBA, because there are other options now.

But I just don't think that it's right that a player, if they're good enough, should have to go to college. If an NBA team chooses to drop them, then that's on the NBA team. and that was when the Giants had an awful offensive line. He has the most receptions through 47 games in NFL history. And remember, Pat Shermer likes to throw the football, and that's the new head coach. And they don't have a dominating number two. Antonio Brown's great, but they got Labian Bell. They got Juju Smith-Schuster. They got a lot of options. Now they got the Washington kid they drafted.

Atlanta's got multiple choices. So John? Sell, sell, sell. O'Dell Beckham will finish the season, if healthy, as a top three receiver. Buy seller hold, Des Bryant will be a patriot. Well, Vegas has Des more likely to not play for New England than to play for New England. New England, it should be noted.

Still has nine receivers on their roster. It is getting a little late. Here's one of the things to consider, and I don't think it'd be a terrible fit. But Des is not known as a great route runner. Either was Ocho Cinco. Randy Moss was, and that's why it worked. Tom Brady will not throw you the ball if you don't get to a spot. And Des is not known as a great route runner.

That's why Ocho and Tom never really clicked. So John, sell, sell, sell. Des Bryant will not be a patriot. By the way, just to correct you, Vegas actually has him more likely to not play than to be a patriot. Wow. to just be unemployed. By seller hold, Baker Mayfield will win more games than Tyrod Taylor.

Well, you know my theory on this. LeBron's not in Cleveland. In October 7th, the NBA camps open, and the Indians will be eliminated, because I think they're a bit of a fraud this year. LeBron's not in Cleveland, and the Browns will be hosting Baltimore in an indivision game,

and Jimmy Haslam is going to look at his team that lost to Pittsburgh, lost in New Orleans, and lost at Oakland, maybe beat the Jets. They're one in three. And Jimmy Haslam is going to say, I want Baker Mayfield starting. We got no LeBron, Indians done, and I want my guy starting. And so I think Tyrod Taylor is the better player and will be for most of this year, if not all of it.

But Tyrod Taylor has an owner. And Hugh Jackson wants Tyrod to start to win more games. But Jimmy Haslam has a history of being impatient with coaches and quarterbacks. By, bye, bye, Baker will win more games than Tyrod Taylor because he's going to probably play. 12. By seller hold, the Eagles will be the fourth team in the last seven seasons to miss the playoffs after

winning the Super Bowl. Well, I picked the Eagles to win the NFC East at 11 and 5. I don't think they'll be as good. I'm not sure Carson Wentz is going to be ready in the first game. Their schedule is, at least early in the first month, pretty easy by Super Bowl

and division winning standards. Also, they have such good depth on the defensive front. They are well coached, and they have offensive line talent. 71% of Super Bowl winners do make the playoffs the following year. Sell, sell, sell. The Eagles will not miss the playoffs.

By seller holds Sam Darnold will win more games than any other rookie quarterback. Well, first of all, my gut feeling this morning is, Joy, he's going to start game one. And if not, he's going to start very early. Remember this. This is why I said the judges are going to have a decent, here. They have the fifth easiest schedule in the National Football League, and it's pretty manageable for the first six weeks. They're over under is six, and Vegas did consider that Sam Darnold would play. I see him more as a seven-win team, maybe eight, probably closer to six,

though. So, John, I do think Josh Rosen won't play much. Lamar won't play at all. Josh Allen's going to get beat up. I think Donald and Baker will be in the running, and I think the Jets are less functional than Cleveland, also maybe less talented. So I think Sam will win more games than any other rookie quarterback at about six or seven. Last one, by Seller Hold, Jim Harbaugh will win more games than the 49ers. 49ers are projected to win 8-8 and a half in Vegas. Michigan's projected to win nine. I have them winning 10 because I think they'll beat Notre Dame this weekend.

And since John has been coaching at Michigan, the Wolverines have had more wins than the 49ers in each of their three seasons. The other thing with Michigan, they have the best defense outside of Clemson in the country. And college football is not a great sport with quarterback. There's only about five quarterbacks in college football that are NFL quarterbacks. Michigan has one. So if you look around at their schedule, outside of the Iowa game, it's very possible. They're going to face with that defense in Harbaugh's history on defense, one elite quarterback. So John, bye, bye, bar, bye.

They make up a phony salary cap and then tell you that they don't have any money. It's all phony. I wouldn't care one iota. How's that? About whether or not they have money to spend. Aaron Rogers is the best thrower of the football I've ever seen. He has the best quarterback rating of any quarterback in the history of the national football league. A little cocky, sometimes hard to coach. I love it. All right, let me throw this at you, though. You would acknowledge free agents don't flock to Greenback. True. No, right. Okay. You would acknowledge, now, with 80 million in the pocket, it does make them less flexible on the free agent market, right? Yes. So what if he just ends, plays another five years, one Super Bowl.

Breeze wins another. Ben got two. Eli got two. Brady's got five. Peyton's got two. What do we say in 25 years with Aaron Rogers? Aaron Rogers needs another Super Bowl. There's no if, ends, or buts.

I'll tell you how good he is. But for his own legacy, he needs to win one more. He had a couple of chances. he should have gone to the Super Bowl at least twice. You remember the tight end fumbled, the onside kick. That was a Super Bowl against Seattle. They were supposed to be going. They had that game one.

Exactly. So there have been some circumstances where they could have gone at least two more times. He needs another championship. I've always said this, Colin. Anybody can win once. Anybody. The stars are line, a bad play. Brad Johnson won a Super Bowl.

Anybody can win once. When you win twice, then it's about you and you have something bigger invested. You can say whatever you want about Eli Manning and how terrible he is during the regular season. He has two Super Bowls. He beat Tom Brady twice and he beat that 18 and O'P Patriots team and won both MVP's. You cannot take that away from him. That's true. So Odell Beckham, LeBron's got this new show.

It's called The Shop. Well, can I say this? Yeah. You know I've owned a barbershop in Detroit. for 16 years called sporty cuts on 7 Mile Road in Detroit. Do you drink high-end wine at your shop? No, that's not what we drink on 7-mile road. No, that's not the barbershop of the working people.

on. I really feel like a zoo animal. Like, that's where life's gone for me. You know, we used to take your kids to the zoo and we used to be like, you know, I want to see the lions or let's go see the lions and you go out there and the lions are laid out. You know what I mean? It's like, why aren't they doing lion stuff? You know what I mean? Like, I got people who call, oh, damn, dance. And it's like, to me, that doesn't feel good, but it's like, damn, that's where life became. But can you ever really detach from that? Well, it makes me feel sad. Oh, stop. Colin, something. The one, the thing that's probably the worst is to hear athletes making million dollars complain about celebrity. I think it's so overblown. And the whole notion, wait a minute,

Odell, you mean the guy who's on Instagram and Twitter with your shirt off and you're dancing in clubs and you're doing all these high-end things that people see? And then you're shocked that people are interested in seeing you do those things? Is that what you're talking? I don't think people walk up to Larry Fitzgerald and ask that? No, they don't. There's plenty of players who don't live that lifestyle, and so people don't expect that from them. I'm not saying that all fans are great and nobody ever bothers you. I get all that. But to hear, like, players talk about complaining about signing autographs or I'm out having dinner and how dare these people come up to me. But these

are the same athletes who are tweeting, show up to Blaze Pizza. We got free pizza for everybody. So you want people to react when you want them to react, but you have some issue with them doing what? You're a big time star making millions of dollars. This is what people do. If you don't want this life, you know what you can do, Colin? Go work at the post office and nobody will bother you. No, that's what it is.

Colin, you're out. People see you. Don't they want to come up? They listen to your show. They watch you every day. You expect it. If no one approached you at the airport, I'd be sad.

You would be stunned. You would be. Oh, I would just, I would cry. I'm getting on my Delta flight. I would be crying. I need constant admiration or it's just my life stinks. No, I get people come up to me all the time and I just, they're my consumer. So, of course, you just deal with it.

You just deal with it. It's just a part of what you signed up for, correct? Yeah. That's all. I just think athletes complain and sometimes is too much. I would say O'Dell probably gets a little bit more attention than all of them. Oh, there's no way O'Dell Beckham in New York City can walk down a street, even with a baseball cap. No, I agree.

But would you say, though, that he's a little more out there? I'm talking about with the stuff that he puts out. He makes himself available for sure. But that doesn't mean that his feelings about people poking and prodding him are not valid. He's saying that basically what he's saying is if he can't have a bad day. It sounds very like it lacks self-awareness, but he lives a different life than we can ever imagine. I'll give you, this was what Michael Jordan said. I'm not saying everybody should be him.

I'm not saying Michael Jordan was perfect. But I remember him very distinctly talking about that. Imagine Michael Jordan in his heyday. He said when I'm having a bad day and don't want to deal with people, you know what I do? I stay home because nobody wants to hear that I'm having a bad day on the one day that you run into Michael Jordan. Right. You can't accept it. Am I right?

No, no, it's I, you know what? I am not into I don't go up to celebrities but I can if you if you treated a customer poorly one it's like my wife used to work in restaurants she said you treat one customer poorly

you just treated a hundred people because they run to the internet they'll tell all their friends when you screw up an order to a restaurant it's called plus one you give them a free that meal's free and you give them another meal next time

they come for free it's called plus one in the industry. You got to be good to your peeps. I always feel like this. Even if I'm on your show or the same thing with Undisputed with Skipping Shannon, I feel the same way. When people stop me and they say,

oh, I see you on the show and I enjoy it or whatever, I'm not only representing myself. I'm representing you, right? People who watch your show or Skipping Shannon or FS1. I represent everybody. So if they come away with a bad feeling about Rob Parker, oh, he was a jerk to me at the airport, didn't they talk to their friends?

Oh, that show, yeah, he's a bad guy. And if they have a pleasant experience with me, what do you think? They're going to watch the show. They're going to watch the show and tell all their friends. You know what? I ran into Rob Parker. He's not really a jerk as I thought he was a nice guy. But I don't know that Odell is necessarily complaining about this.

It's more just they're having an open discussion about how life is now different for him. Yeah, I thought it was all I know. My takeaway on the barbershop, LeBron's Barbershop, though, I've never been to a barber shop where I serve like $80 bottles of wine. That was a like, that was kind of a upscale barbershop. The glass itself might have been eight years. Okay. By the way, I've heard you were sad recently.

What happened? Unbelievable. Joy, you listening to this too? So I go to buy a breakfast sandwich and I'm like, okay, it's cheaper than, you know, at a fast food restaurant, cheaper than I normally pay. So I was like, this is so weird. Why is the price cheaper than what I normally pay? I look closer at the receipt and the cashier gave me a senior discount.

You didn't ask for it? No, my feelings were hurt. Well, how was she giving me a senior discount? I look good. I look like I'm 35. You got gray hair, though. A little bit. You got a senior discount?

Hour number three in Los Angeles, Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS 1. Joy Taylor is joining me. James Harrison in 15 minutes. We have some breaking news. Aaron Rogers, Green Bay Packers, Uber talented quarterback has just signed a four-year extension with the Green Bay Packers for $134 million, $80 million by March. He better open up one of those savings account things.

You know, the more you pay the quarterback, Kirk Cousins, Eli Manning, the less flexibility you have on the free agent market. This is why Tom Brady takes pay cuts, but I don't begrudge anybody that does it. I think they've underserved Aaron at this point. They haven't given him a running game since Eddie Lacey. They haven't given him elite secondaries and pass rushers. So Aaron Rogers deserves every penny. But the reality of it is, Green Bay is not a free agent market. It wasn't before this.

And now you got a lot of money into one guy. And they don't even like keeping the offensive linemen they've developed. So it's going to be very interesting. But he's earned every penny of it. And Joy Taylor will have more of this coming up in 15 minutes, along with James Harrison, Steeler Legend, Patriot briefly. He's going to be coming up in 15 minutes on the show. Now, I've also got in Best for Last from Philadelphia Eagle News.

And speaking of the Eagles, everybody thinks I hate Philly, but my favorite football player just now might be an eagle. Malcolm Jenkins. The Eagles have put in their locker room a huge sign in their locker room. It says Super Bowl 52 champions. A big sign. And Malcolm Jenkins came out yesterday and said, I hate it. I am way beyond celebrating last year's accomplishments.

They don't mean anything. We're at the bottom just like everybody else. God, I love Malcolm Jenkins. Memo to Philadelphia and all you other teams that win a singular title. The minute the parade ends, five minutes. later, go to a film room. Because that trophy doesn't do your prep. In fact, I would say it inhibits your prep.

The teams we talk about in sports, 30 years later, 50 years later, Bill Walsh's 49ers, the 70 Steelers, Showtime Lakers, New England Dynasty will be talked about in 30 years. Michael Jordan's Bulls, that lasted a decade. You know who we thought we were going to talk about? The Seattle Seahawks. They won a big Super Bowl. And then they got chatty and cocky and political and fractured and ripped their quarterback in ESPN the magazine.

And you know what Seattle is? One more Super Bowl than the Detroit Lions have. Ooh, congratulations. Philadelphia. While you're congratulating yourself, you do realize in your own state, Steelers have six. You have one. In your own division, you're a laughing stock.

The cowboys have five. The giants have four. The Redskins have three. The Eagles have one. In your own city, Villanova is the current dynasty. You're not. here's what you are, Philadelphia, slightly better now than the Jags, the Titans,

the Lions, and the Arizona Cardinals. Why don't you throw another parade? That's all you are. But your coach has got a book. And Lane Johnson's calling out everybody like the Patriots, a real dynasty. And you got a banner in your locker room. And Malcolm Jenkins is like,

pass, hard pass. This is why I always supported Malcolm Jenkins in all this anthem stuff, because he wasn't divisive. He was a grown-up. He had opinions. He had causes he cared about, but he handled it like a man. He wasn't trying to pick fights. He was trying to get things solved. It's why I like him. This is how adults talk. Remember, Lane Kiffin was on my show earlier this week, and he addressed the rumors that Alabama cheat, Sabin, Sabin, Cheat, oh, he's got all the best players, he must cheat. And here's what Lane Kiffin. said. I used to sit in staffing as a head coach and an assistant coach would lose a player to another program. They said, oh, they cheated. You know, they bought the player. People just say that to take

blame off of, okay, why did we lose the player? You know, could we have done something better in the recruiting process to sign the player? So we're just going to say someone else cheated because, you know, that makes us look better. People saying Nick Saban, well, it's like cheating because he has better players than everyone. Well, they didn't just walk. They just didn't walk onto campus and through the doors. You know, he spent time getting him. He's the best recruiter in the world because of the time that he spends.

The only cheating they do is that he just works harder than everybody else. Yeah. Nick Saban's got, what, five, six national titles. I lost count. I told the story a couple years ago. He won a national championship. He was running off the field. He ran into the locker room.

and he went over to his agent Jimmy Sexton. I have this documented, and he said to Jimmy Sexton, all right, this isn't easy. This just puts more pressure on us for next year. That's how winners think. That's how legends think. Philadelphia, though, got big banner in the locker room. Hey, we're better than the Lions.

We got one more than the Jags. Okay, we thought Seattle was going to roll. Because Seattle, like Philadelphia, as a good coach. Seattle like Philadelphia had a great all-time quarterback. Wenz and Russell Wilson, those are Hall of Fame talents. Seattle had a great defense like Philadelphia.

Seattle was in a division where they had a rival in San Francisco, but they were better than them and were going to dominate them. And Seattle is now just dysfunctional. I mean, when I think of Seattle right now, I'm like, that's what I think. They're just dysfunctional. Malcolm Jenkins should be noted. Adrian Brody won an Oscar.

And Rich Beam won a major in golf. You want to be Jack? Want to be Tiger? Or just want to be a guy? So fired up today. You should like that, Joy, because you grew up a Steeler fan. Oh, I love that. Not an Eagles fan.

I love that. No, it's right, though. It's why it's so hard to repeat. Especially, you're always talking about teams that have nicknames and catchphrases. They had a whole gimmick going on last year with the dog masks, and they're the underdogs, and no one gives them any chance. And I mean, I admittedly didn't give them a chance against the Patriots,

but that's got to go now. Now you have to. Yeah, dog masks were adorable. Bring them out on Halloween, then put them away and win football games. No, now you're the target. James Harrison's around the corner. I like Philadelphia this year. I do.

But there's there. Oh, look at that. When you walk into the locker room. Oh, boy. boy, there it is. Look, look at us. That's legit. That's not even like a little poster.

We got one. Look at that. You think the Patriots have that? I'm just noticing that. Look at that right there. It's beautiful. It's backlit. But you got to remember, Villanova is the only dynasty right now in the city.

Not the Eagles. You're just poking Eagles, fans, huh? They think I don't like him. Malcolm Jenkins is my new favorite guy. My new favorite guy. By the way, one more time. Ron Rogers new contract, $134 million, 80 guaranteed. He'll have it by March, deserves every penny of it.

But in salary cap leagues, this is the reality of a salary cap league. I'm not blaming anybody. If I was there and I'd want the money too, he has been underserved. They've never, since Eddie Lacey, I mean, he's had a couple of decent running backs when he first got into the league. Who was the guy who had Ryan Grant? Who didn't that the guy had? And then I had Eddie Lacey, and then Eddie kind of ate his way out of Green Bay.

And they haven't had, they don't keep their offensive linemen. their secondary has been a mess for years. And so when you start looking at the rushing ranks for Green Bay through the years, nice job by my staff from 2008 to 2017, 17, 24th, 27th. Yeah, I had one year, I think the, what year did they win the Super Bowl? What year did Green Bay win the Super Bowl? Was that the year? No, 2010.

He won a Super Bowl with the 24th best rushing offense. So they've underserved Aaron. Yeah, you're right. It was James Schen. Shields, wasn't it? I forget the name of the guy. James Starks, that's who it was. So, I mean, Aaron's been underserved, and Aaron say, pay me.

But the reality is, when you pay a quarterback, $30 million or $34 million, whatever it is, Kurt Cousins in Minnesota, you've got to strike with the iron's hot because they're not going to sign any free agents for two or three years. There's limitations on it, but he deserves every penny. James Harrison's around the corner. Steeler legend. Two rings, multiple pro bowls, defensive player of the year, one of the most feared guys in league history, all-time sack leader for the Steelers.

James Harrison's already on the couch. All right, so Aaron got paid today. You good with it? Definitely. I'm definitely good with it. A lot of money. He's worth it. He's worth it.

Salary cap now. They're not going to be able to afford other players. That's something to, you know, the Packers are going to have to figure out right now. Aaron Rogers is getting what he deserves. Yeah. But by the way, when a guy gets one of these massive contributions, How's it playing in the locker room? Everybody's happy.

Oh, they are? Oh, definitely. I love to see guys get money. I'm happy whenever I see a contract come across there that breaks the record of another guy's contract. I want to see everybody get money. So players are not jealous in that respect. No, at least not the ones I hang around, no.

Okay. It was, you remember your big contract? Yeah. It was 52. Good? Everybody was happy. Yes, of course. Good day?

So Odell Beckham, LeBron has a new TV show. It's called The Shop. It was on after Hard Knocks. We're going to play a clip here of Odell Beckham. So let me play this clip, and I'm going to have James react to it. Hold on. I really feel like a zoo animal. Like, that's where life's gone for me. You know, we used to take your kids at a zoo and we used to

be like, you know, I want to see the lions or let's go see the lions and you go out there and the lions are laid out. You know what I mean? It's like, why aren't they doing lion stuff? You know what I mean? Like I got people who call hotel dance. And it's like to me that doesn't feel good, but it's like, damn, that's where life became. But can you ever really detach from that? So, you know, some people could say, oh, geez, celebrity whining. You've been a celebrity in Pittsburgh. Most places you can't, you can't walk around town. How does that land for you with him? I think it's gotten to a point that his celebrity is so big that he's getting a lot more attention than what, you know, he's comfortable with. I'm sure at times he wants that attention.

You know, he opens himself up with social media. He's given a glimpse into what it is he does, and those are times that he's willing to do that. You know, it's situations where you're out, you're hanging out with your friends or family, and you just want to be able to do what everybody else there is doing and not have to worry about, you know, signing the pictures, taking autographs And with him, like I said, he's, he's mega right now. You know what I'm saying? So to see O'Dell out, everyone wants to get a picture with him. They want to get an autograph.

So it then got to the point now where he just, you know, he's a little tired of it being a 24-7 thing. Go back to your career. Were there ever days you just were overwhelmed by it in Pittsburgh? You win Super Bowls. You get three sacks. Everybody's talking about James. You go out to have dinner with your, you know, significant other friends. Is it ever too much?

At some point, it's going to be too much. because you don't have a great day every day. You know, every day isn't rosy, you know, just because you're making all this money, doesn't mean everything is going on, you know, happy, you know, back at home. But for the most part, you try and accompany them or do something to make them feel good about meeting you. But for you to be in, you know, certain situations

where he may be in a restaurant, he has, say, you know, 50 or 100 people in there and everyone's looking and someone comes over. usually they'll send a little kid over because it's hard to say no to the little kids and he asked for autographs so you sign it and then all of a sudden you got 15 20 30 40 other people and they're coming for autographs and you can't get a bite in to eat now so you're trying to figure out how you're going to satisfy these people but still satisfy yourself so like i said it's probably got to a point to where it's very hard for him and i'm nowhere near the status

that he was as far as the stardom and fame that he has and celebrity have you ever been out with big ban in public I haven't been out in a restaurant with him at public, but I know for a fact, you know, it'll get to the point to where you know that if it's a place you haven't been before, I'll say, you'll get a lot more attention. If it's a place like in Pittsburgh, it's places I can go where they see me regularly enough that it's just James Harris and he walks through. Now, if you go somewhere else where they're not used to seeing you, then you're going to get a lot more attention to a point to where, you know, guys will just say, you know what, I'm not going here, I'm not going there. they'll try and get someone if it's food or something they want to get from that restaurant they'll call or have someone go in and get it and just bring it to them or you stop going to certain places where you would

like I just started with my kids with football and going to different stadiums to watch them play the other teams aren't used to seeing you there so you get a little bit more attention than you do when you're at the normal everyday practice of the home team yeah so

Malcolm Jenkins this is really interesting So Malcolm Jenkins, who I really like as a player, pretty thoughtful, smart dude, good player. He said, I hate it. Our locker room's got this big banner. We got this new thing. We're Super Bowl champs. We showed it earlier. And he's like, you know, listen, man, that doesn't make practice good today.

We did it, done. Next parade. Let's go to the film room. Take me to your career. Teams do get complacent, James. They just do, right? Did you ever have a Super Bowl team that got complacent? I feel like we got a little complacent.

And I feel like, you know, it depends on the players in the situations. You got to understand each team is not going to be the same coming around each year. So you're going to lose, you know, you may lose key players. You may lose, you know, people who are on special teams that had key roles at special teams. So it's not going to be exactly the same team rolling around the same year. Everything's not going to fall out the same way. And guys forget how much work it took in that off season. You started your off season probably because you got kicked out of the playoffs by February.

That's right. So you're grinding February, March, April, May, June, all the way through until you hit training camp. And all that work has built you into the player that's about to start this new season. Well, after you win the Super Bowl, what's after the Super Bowl in February? You're celebrating. You've got guys that are, you got signings because everybody wants to be around a Super Bowl champion. They want his autograph. Everyone's getting signings.

You know, everyone's getting- You're getting everything. So now your celebration where your workouts were normally starting, February, that's your celebration time. Now you're celebrating to February. And some guys just can't get enough of it. So now you're through April, March. Some guys may not get back to it until OTAs or training camp. So now you lost all that prep time where the year before you were grinding. You were working out for the previous, you know, the previous, you know, four or five months getting ready for the season. So, and like you said, you get to complacency. You know, guys think it's going to just roll through the same way it did. It's not that easy. It's not that simple. That's why what New England's done is pretty remarkable. Oh, yeah. I mean, it's just, just, even the years they don't win the Super Bowl, they're really, really good. And they just lose a close game. So some people watch Hard Knocks.

I do, some don't. I've never been a huge fan of Hard Knocks. I don't like the league, because I think it's disruptive. Every time you see a reality show, whether it's football or not, the couple gets divorced like a year later. I don't like the league telling teams, here's a camera crew. I got Baker Mayfield. Well, it's Rules. It's rules.

You can get out. I happen to do that. All you got to do is weigh well. to make the playoffs every time. If you win. Yeah. Okay, so Cleveland now's got Baker and all this stuff. They got Tyrod Taylor, a new quarterback.

They got Hugh Jackson's under the gun a little bit. So I think it disrupts a locker room. Have you talked to guys who have been on the hard knocks? I've been on hard knocks with Cincinnati. Oh. So how, go give me a good story. I don't know those guys personality before I got there, but I believe that at some point in time,

a camera's going to be here, and a guy is going to not act the way he would need. normally act in that situation to get some camera time, you know, basically to see what he, what he looked like on TV and the first thing he's going to do when it's time for that to run is make sure he gets to the camera and see what that situation looked like. Another thing I had an issue was I didn't feel like they deserve to be there. They didn't put any time, any blood, sweating tears into that locker room. They didn't do anything to earn a place in that locker room. And now, I mean, you're going to show that to the whole world.

And I don't feel like they did anything to be in there. And you got guys that are, you know, 21, 22 years old, and they've played football their whole life, okay? From high school, from peeves to high school to college. And they've been told that, you know what? You're great, man. You're good. Let's go.

Let's do this high school thing. You're good, man. You're so good. We're going to give you this scholarship, everything paid for. You're in college now. And he getting into the pros, and now he's about to be cut. This is the first time he doesn't told he's not good enough for anything. And he has to take that on the chin while the camera in his face.

And his real reaction is probably not the one you're going to see right there. Like he wants to call mom, he wants to call dad, and be like, what do I do? He is devastated. And I don't feel like that should be shown on TV. It's almost cruel. You were cut by the Ravens? I was cut by everybody, man. I was cut by Pittsburgh, by four, five times.

I was cut by the Ravens. I was cut by Cincinnati. Only people I ain't cut me is New England. You went to Europe. I did Europe, the NFL Europe, Dusseldorf, Germany with the Rhine fire. I did all that. God, you really had a rough road, didn't you? Listen, I was a week short from 2004 through the five season.

I did the NFL Europe. and played in regular NFL. I was a week short of a year of football, 38 games straight non-stop. 38 games. Yeah. Good Lord. And that's back when it was two of days, two of their pads, bang.

Oh, my God. But that's why you're a legendary grinder. Yeah. 38 games. So when you hear Jerry Jones say, we should have 18 games, you're like, I played double that. I don't care.

Some guys aren't built. You're built, man, when I first met you, Traps, you are built to play football. My traps ain't there no more? No, I didn't say that. But when I first met you, I was like, that's what a football player looks like. James, not everybody can withstand. Like when Jerry says 18 games, my takeaway is, you know John Lynch.

John Lynch never had a concussion. John Lynch was one of the nastiest hitters at safety. Then you find another guy, a corner doesn't want to tackle anybody, he's got three. Like for you, 38 games. The average NFL player is 18 games too much. I think 18 games is too much in the setup they have now. With 4, then 18? No.

I think 18 games, regular season is too much. I think they need to add more players. So do I. You need to add a true practice squad so that you're not taking that same wearing tear in season with practicing. You know, the guys that are special teams, they're flipping back and forth. They're playing offense for the scout team. They're doing all the specials team stuff. You need a true group of practice squad.

So another eight guys in practice? No, I'm saying like a group that's like 50. to 18, you know, guys. So it would be another eight or so added to what it is now. So it's eight practice squad now. Yeah, it'd be another eight or so at least. James Harrison, former NFL great. Now he's here at FS1.

And now it's Aaron Rogers. He signed a four-year 100, and $34 million extension that will keep him as a Packer through 2023. It also pushes the guaranteed money to more than $100 million. And that is according to NFL network analysts and former teammate James Jones. Say, listen. I'm getting nervous. Like, man, if somebody going to break it before me, so I'm on the phone with Aaron

and he's like, JJ, go in, it's okay. He's time to tweet it out, tweet it out. These are the numbers. And I was able to keep it out, man. I mean, he's my guy, man. You know what I'm saying? It just shows you the type of relationship we had. you know, why we play with each other, man,

just to let me break this news. And, I mean, it keeps him as a Green Bay Packer for a very long time. Aaron Rogers told James that he would give him the scoop first whenever we finally signed it. You know, here's the thing, though. Now it's up to the Green Bay Packers to draft really, really well. Okay? Because, and there's New Orleans a couple years ago, Joy went out and nailed the draft. Got like six guys who could play.

Alvin Camaro was one of them. Now, no. Like Minnesota looks at it and thinks, we've got a really good defense. We've got a really good roster. We're going to give Kirk, couple bills, Kirk Cousins. But you better draft well because other guys are going to be coming up here in the next two or three years in Minnesota. And you just can't pay for them. So it's up to the Packers now.

You've underserved Brett to this point defensively in running game. Now it's time Green Bay to go nail the next couple of drafts. Get six guys each year, cheap labor who can actually play. Yeah. I mean, Aaron's done it before. So he's, he'll get another Super Bowl. I don't know. It's like you said,

like what they put around him will determine how much more of a legacy he's going to have. He's still going to go down as, I mean, many people feel like he's better than Brady already. I don't feel that way because I feel like you have to do the winning. Well, it'd be different if Brady hadn't been to eight Super Bowls. You get into a point where the gap between, you know,

it's like, I mean, Lway is better than Marino largely because of a couple. And Elway got smoked in a couple. But, I mean, Brady's now got eight. If you got one and I got eight of anything. while it gets a little much. It's been a long road for Odell to become the NFL's highest paid wide receiver, but according to co-owner John Mara, it's always been their plan to work out a long-term contract. I can't say there was one specific point. I think it evolved over a period of time.

I mean, it was always our intention to sign him at some point. The only question was, was it going to be this year or were we going to give him another year to prove himself? But as I said, he came in with the right attitude and, you know, his energy level has been, you know, off the roof, and he's done everything we've asked him to do. And, you know, we feel good about having him on our team for the next five years. He signed a five-year, $95 million deal with $65 guaranteed. I don't, I just never believe that they were really going to trade him. Listen, you know, NFL guys are now making big money.

You got NBA average players signing for $95 million. I mean, like B-minus guys. So in the end, it's about time we paid NFL guys what marginal NBA guys who have no impact in the league make. Well, I mean, it's tough to compare. There's so many more players on an NFL squad that has to be paid. So I don't want to directly compare the scales, but I agree. And especially the guaranteed money.

I like that the trend is going more towards high levels of guaranteed money because the injury situations with this. Here's the downside with Odell. Let's say he's missed 17 games in four years. And I said if he gets hurt again this year, he becomes Derek Rose. That he's an icon, a shoe deal, he's rich, and he's spectacular, but he can't sell healthy. Here's the downside to the Giants not drafting a quarterback. Because they decided to go.

There was, Sam Darnel was out there, and everybody I talked to in the league that I know, every GM was like, I would take a quarterback because Eli's getting old. So if Odell gets hurt again, what is Eli Manning last four years when Odell doesn't play? Like C-minus. So that's the issue on this, is that you get Sequin Barclay, that's great. But if Odell gets hurt and he has been prone to get hurt and he's coming off an injury, he is a small perimeter athlete, then you don't have Odell. You're paying a fortune for Odell and he's not playing.

And you're paying a fortune for Eli and he's not playing. Like, I said this before, it's real popular the first year when Sam Darnold struggles in New York, he's a rookie, and Sequin Barclay hit some home runs. But if Odell gets hurt, you're now paying Odell and Eli a fortune. One's bad and one's not available. Still think you should have drafted a quarterback. After what happened last year with the quarterback situation and Eli, there was just no way they were drafting the quarterback. No, you're right, but it's rude to day. We'll just, because if Odell goes down,

Eli is not an elite quarterback in a division with Carson Wins and a guy I like Dak Prescott. I don't know. All right. We talked about this yesterday. You were very high on Nick Saban's jokes. You think he's got jokes. I think he's funny. And Bill Belichick, he's out for the laughter too.

He was asked if he is scouting free agents right now and he had some jokes for everyone. You have an idea who those players are right now, absolutely. Yeah. We think we're going to do it. Well, I'm saying on other teams, I understand, I understand that you have players on your team. Yeah, sure.

We're, yeah. That other players, you know, specific to... Yeah, we're looking at all 31 teams. Yeah, what do you think we're doing? We're in camp. We don't have watermelon rolls and Edmund contests and all that. Yeah, we're working on football. We look at our team.

We look at 31 teams. Yeah. That's the best set of comedy since, like, Chris Rock at the Apollo or something. the Apollo or something. Yeah, we had the laugh factory later tonight. Along with his friend, Nick Sabin, you thought that his string of press conferences was hysterical. Well, I think Nick is genuinely funny. I think Bill's not. Well, let's take a little listen. Let's do a little compare. Okay. I don't even know why we play. Why do we even play? Why do we even have practice?

Why do we compete? You just think we just, you know, whatever happens, we just another player. And everything's going to be perfect. All of our fans think that. You, you all think that, that's what you write about. You all don't remember the Georgia Southern game, do you? I don't think we had a guy on that field that didn't play in the NFL and about four or five of them were first round draft picks. And I think that team won a national

championship, but I'm not sure. And they run through our ass like shit through a ten horn man and we could not stop them. And, you know, thanks for asking. That's funny. That is a performer right there. He worked on that set for months. You like that grumpy comedy, huh?

Well, I think there's something about, like a lot of comedians, Richard Lewis has, you know, he's kind of cranky and crazy and nutty and neurotic and nuts. And that's funny to me. Like Lewis, was it Lewis Black? He was funny like that, kind of outraged and I'm going crazy. And that's funny to me. Larry David is funny to me. Larry David's hysterical, but those two are not trying to be funny. You think they're trying to be funny? They're being sarcastic. They're being mean. You think Nick's being mean. Breaking news. As suspected it happened sooner than later, the New York Jets have traded Teddy Bridgewater, who was battling Sam Darnel.

for the starting quarterback job. Sam Donald is now the official starting quarterback for the New York Jets. They realize he's really good. He should have been number one. He dropped to them at three. So the Jets are going to get draft picks, according to Adam Schaefter. Draft picks are coming to the New York Jets in exchange for Sam Darnold. And this is what we theorized in the last 48 hours,

is that when you, this is what I said two days ago. I went into this year thinking Teddy Bridgewater starts, and I still think Teddy this morning's a little bit better. But the gap is so close with Darnold and Bridgewater, are you better off? The Jets have one of the five easiest NFL schedules, and it's real workable in the first six weeks. Trade Teddy, get draft picks, and just start building that offensive line.

Here's another thing to throw out there. Kalee Mack. Jets have been rumored. Jets have an elite safety, Jamal Adams, Trumane Johnson at Corner, Leonard Williams on the defensive line. they don't have a pass rusher. They were 28th in sacks. Do you get a couple of draft picks?

And then you go to the Raiders and say, we'll give you draft picks. We want Khalil Mack. And then you got an elite edge rusher, an elite corner, an elite safety. You have a defensive-minded head coach. You keep Sam Darnold in those games. Or do you just grab all the picks you can? You go to your scouting department and say, next two years, what are the offensive look like in college football?

You go to your NFL scouts and say, are there going to be offensive linemen on the market? Because what you've got to do for the Jets right now, you've got to get an offensive line. That thing's a mess. It has moments when it can pass block a little. It does not run block well. Now, the Jets receivers are not great.

But if Robbie Anderson can keep it buttoned up and curse, they're okay. It's not a disaster. They're receiving core. It depends. Terrell Pryor. Can Terrell Pryor stay focused? Robbie Anderson stay engaged. You got something.

But they got no running backs of note, not good at tight end. Offensive line is really, really poor. But the Jets are making a decision, and they're making a decision that all of us have watched. Sam Darnold is head and shoulders to me better than all these rookie quarterbacks. I think Baker has had moments, but I don't think he's as big, as athletic, as talented, as durable. Sam's really looked apart. Now, he's going to scrap. he's going to have bad days, but the Saints, Drew Brees is getting up there.

And I believe Teddy Bridgewater is not just a stopgap guy. I think Teddy Bridgewater can play. I think Teddy Bridgewater is a starting team in the NFL. He's not Drew Brees. But if Drew's got two years left, he can be that three-year bridge. You can win a lot of games. And remember, Teddy Bridgewater's never had an offensive coach like Sean Peyton. So Sean Payton's the guy looking at all the film.

And he's like, Sean Peyton is telling you. you, Teddy Bridgewater's good. And the Jets are telling you, we think he's good, too. One of the elite offensive guys in football, Drew Brees, Sean Payton just said, I think Teddy Bridgewater is really good. And Sam Darnold's beating him out. That's a pretty good indication. Sam Darnold can play.

Jets are trading Teddy Bridgewater to the New Orleans Saints. The trade of Teddy to the Saints is expected to evolve draft picks. And this is what we all kind of theorize what happened. Eventually, it just happened now. Best for last. After almost three hours, Colin apparently hasn't gotten to the point yet. Quit holding out on us, cowherd. It's the best for last.

All right. I said today Malcolm Jenkins, safety for the Eagles is my favorite player. The Eagles have built this little shrine, this little, you know, poster board in the locker room celebrating their championship. And Malcolm Jenkins came out and said, I hate it. Okay, I'm well beyond celebration. We're at the bottom just like everybody else again. Well, he's got the right mindset. Nobody has repeated as Super Bowl champs since the 0304 Patriots.

Compare this to the other four major sports. The NFL has the smallest percent of repeat champs at just under 16%. In the NBA, all time, you can repeat 32% of the time. Hockey 27, baseball 19, NFL 15. I'm surprised the NBA is not a little higher. I bet you in the NBA you may not repeat. repeat, but you often get there again. So obviously, it is hardest in the four big major sports in America to repeat as champ.

NFL is basically half of the NBA. In fact, this is what has happened to the past 51 Super Bowl champs after winning the Super Bowl. Eight have won it again, mostly the old, old decades ago. 27 teams three times have lost in the playoffs. 16 have missed the playoffs. So you have a much greater chance, twice the chance to miss the playoffs statistically,

as you do to repeat as champs. And three times, almost three and a half times, better chance to get to the playoffs and lose than to repeat. And I will say this again, I don't think the NFC, it's as good as either conference has been in my life. the NFC, every single team now either has a franchise quarterback or a young guy that looks Jimmy Garoppolo really, really promising Jared Goff as a franchise quarterback.

So Philadelphia's got all that new stuff in their locker room celebrating their success. You know my motto, grind regularly, celebrate rarely. Alex Smith and Tyrod Taylor. And they keep winning and they keep getting traded. Like Sam Darnold, I can just, here's what's going to happen. Sam's going to start. He's a rookie. Bad offensive line. It's going to be unbelievably choppy. He'll go 6 and 10, 7 and 9.

That's what Vegas thinks. Everybody's like, what? Guess what? I give the stat. In his 15th year, Brett Farve had a 29 interception season. In his fourth year, Peyton Manning had a 23 interception season. Big Ben a couple of years ago through 16 picks in just 12 games. Andrew Luck got his team to the AFC championship with nobody around him.

He threw a ton of picks. You can't get paralyzed by him. You don't want to throw him. But remember, most teams have on average, I think it's 12.5 possessions a game. Depending on where you throw the interception, the rule on interceptions, don't throw them in their red zone or yours. Yeah. Don't take points off the-

aren't created equal. That's for sure. Yeah. I mean, don't, if you're in the red zone and you're going to get a field goal, don't take points off the port. That's when you can't throw picks. don't take points off the board. Because the average NFL margin is four points a game.

So a field goal is the difference between close winning and losing. But the story again, Sam Darnold is now the starting quarterback for the Jets. I said this yesterday. Josh McCown is the best coach playing in the league. Josh McCown will be offered a quarterback coaching job the minute he retires. In fact, I believe a couple years ago, Cleveland offered. in that. So the Jets don't have a quarterback coach. They're one of three

NFL teams that does not have one. But the feeling was there that McCown was the quarterback coach. And so they didn't need one. And Teddy's a great guy and Sam Donald is rock solid. So they felt like their quarterback room was just so good. And what

the Jets made a decision, you watch Sam Darnold playing, you're like, he's just ready to play. And I still think Teddy's better than him. But he's not the gap. When you watch Joe Flacco and Lamar Jackson, the gap there is significant. When you watch Bradford and Rosen, it's different. Bradford right now, there's a gap. When you watch Tyrod and Baker, there's a gap, but I don't think it's huge. You watch Sam and Teddy

that last game, they're kind of the same guy. And I think Darnel has a higher ceiling eventually. So the Jets made the decision that we just thought it would take away. I mean, everybody knew it was going to happen. We knew McCown was the mentor. We knew Darnold was the future. The only question was, do you start Teddy for a month, show him off and trade him, or do you just go with Darnold? And I think what it's telling you is that Bowles is sitting there saying, and Bulls, by the way, doesn't like young players. Jets coach Todd Bulls is a reputation.

He does not like rookies. He is not a fan of young players. And it's telling you he's like, that guy's good. By the way, Tony Romo said yesterday about Sam Darnold. Arnold, I think whether he comes out on fire or comes out average, I don't think it really matters about his future. I think he's going to be outstanding. And I think that's pretty obvious.
