James Harrison on the show today.
What a wild weekend, starting on Friday.
You have Dodgers, you got NFL, you got college Harbaugh dominates,
the big 10th. So going forward, you're ready to go? Let's do it. Let's do it. Let's start with this.
Well, Philadelphia, are you having fun yet? Because you're celebrating in dog masks and got a book.
And you do realize in the NFL, it's an 11-and-a-half-month grind. After you win the Super Bowl,
go to the Bahamas and then get back in your office and put in 15-hour days. That's the NFL.
If you want time off, coach college football. Coach college football. Because in college football,
you win recruiting day, you win 80% of your games unless you're a boob. I mean, unless you're an
incompetent hack. If you win recruiting day in college football, you win 80% of your games. But it doesn't
work that way in the NFL. The New England Patriots are amazing, a dynasty, and nobody cares.
Yesterday they won by a yard. The week before they won by a play, nobody cares how good you are.
Nobody cares about your dog masks. Nobody cares about your books. Nobody cares about your parades.
You partied too much. Got
politically engaged, told us how smart you were and how progressive and how thoughtful.
And now you can't beat Carolina at home of the 17.
Nothing lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Philadelphia, you forget last year.
Even last year you were winning by one possession.
Six of the Eagle seven games this year, one possession.
Nine of their last 11 games dating back to the last year, one possession.
And in fact, one of those games that doesn't count as a one possession game, Oakland,
go back and look at the highlights late, it really was.
if you want time off, coach college.
But in the NFL, nobody cares about your dynasty.
Nobody cares about your rings.
Nobody cares about your parades.
You went from hunters to the hunted.
You thought because you won a Super Bowl and Carson Wentz didn't play
and Jordan Hicks didn't play.
And Jason, Peters didn't play.
You thought, oh, oh, you're getting all those guys back.
Oh, hoo-hoo.
Who-hoo.
Honey, schedule a couple of vacations.
We don't need to go into the office.
And guess what?
Guess what?
I still like you.
Still like your GM, like your coach.
I still think you're aggressive as heck,
and I still think you'll probably at the end of the year win the division.
But you're not winning the Super Bowl this year.
Because it doesn't look like to me.
You put in the time, the details.
You're not as good at that.
You're just not.
Now you've had some injuries.
So what?
Grong didn't play yesterday for New England.
No excuses.
Well, we've had injuries at running back.
New England didn't have Sony Michelle yesterday late.
No excuses.
They're better at.
details than you are. Now, you're still aggressive. Last few years since 2016, you leave the NFL in
fourth down attempts and fourth down makes and two-point conversions, and there's a lot I like about
Philadelphia. I like the owner. I like the GM. I like the coach. I like the quarterback. The fan base I
can do without. But did you see yesterday after the game, Caroline is mocking you. They're laughing at you.
They did the dog mask on social media. If you don't want to grind for 11 and a half months and you want to
have fun, go have fun. Play college football. But you're not going to
be a dynasty. Dynasties are hard. Every day, grinding. Everybody made fun of Billichette
Belichick. Everybody makes fun of Billich Belichick. Remember a couple years ago? They won,
and he came out, and it was at the victory parade, and it was like, you know what Bill Belichick
did? First of all, he said this, remember this. Yeah, and everybody gave him crap. Do you know
where Belichick went from that parade? He went back to the office to look at film. So what's
happened to Philadelphia is what we predicted. They'd still be good.
and they still have good personnel, and I still like them.
But this idea of the NFL's fun, it's called work.
This is not, Saturday is for separation.
Saturday is to watch Oklahoma blow somebody out and Alabama blow somebody out
and Clemson blow somebody out because they won the recruiting in February.
And nine of the 11 games they play, they just have better players.
But the difference between Tennessee, a bad team and the Chargers,
a great team in London, was a coaching decision, was an inch.
The difference between Carolina.
and Philadelphia. A Super Bowl team from a perennial roller coaster ride is a foot.
And you win because you put in the time.
Doug Peterson, a guy I like is already playing the underdog card.
Games that galvanize football teams.
And this is going to do that.
This is going to bring us even closer together.
Basically told them that, hey, pressure's off of us.
Nobody on the outside world is giving us a chance to do much of anything.
And pressures off.
So we can go play, have fun, and just.
relax and a lot of football ahead too.
That's just a bunch of hooey. That's just a bunch of hooey. That's a slogan. That's a model.
You're trying to sell guys in the locker room. Nobody cares about us. No Philadelphia.
They're going to care about beating you the entire year because you're Super Bowl champs.
And a couple of years ago, Atlanta was the talk of the NFL and they got to the Super Bowl.
And now Atlanta is no good. And they're going to lose the night and Monday night football probably.
Work. Don't want to do it. Go coach college.
Don't be a GM in the NFL.
Go be an athletic director in the SEC.
The NFL is a grind.
Celebrate briefly grind daily.
And I think a lot of people aren't built for it.
Bill Walsh was built for it.
Chuck Noel was built for it.
Belichick is built for it.
Jimmy Johnson was built for it.
But it's hard.
Got any more books to sell?
Let me shift gears to the Dallas Cowboys.
You know, it's funny.
Teams, and it's kind of, it's not strange.
but it happens. Teams tend to take the personality often of their cities or their owner.
Every great Laker team has had some flash. Showtime Lakers, magic, Kobe, Corrin.
It's a city of stars. Every great Laker team, even go back to Wilt and Jerry West and Gail
Goodrich. There's never been like a bad boy's Lakers. You know what I mean?
Detroit's a tough city. Detroit, they build cars. Detroit teams are tough. Every Detroit team that wins is
tough. Okay. How about New England and Boston, 51 universities within the metro area of Boston?
The Patriots, cerebral, the Celtic cerebral, the Red Sox, Evolvers, adapters, innovators in baseball,
Golden State Warriors, Silicon Valley, progressive. You tend to mirror your cities and you often
mirror your owners, right? And Dallas is an aggressive town. I mean, Jerry Jones buys the team,
fires the only coach they've ever had. Goes and gets a college guy.
aggressive. Dallas is aggressive. The state of Texas. We do big things in Texas. They're not worried about
saving the red owl. In Texas, they do big things. They don't have regulations. Dallas is an
aggressive town. Oil money, wheeling and deal. That's the city. And Jerry is the most aggressive
owner in the NFL. But this football team, Jason Garrett, has got to be the most passive football
team I've ever seen. Dallas actually has a city slogan that says big things happen here.
I think they should change their slogan to, we play for ties here. Dallas, what was that?
You got the most aggressive owner in a hyper-aggressive city and you'll become a passive
football team. I mean, whatever the opposite of gunslinger is, how about traffic cop?
Whatever.
Brett Farb is a gunslinger.
Jason Garrett's a traffic stop.
Watch your way. Walk slowly.
Look both ways. Don't get in trouble.
What's going on here?
Yet over a minute left. Alex Smith did your favor.
Stepped out of bounds.
Saved you time out. Over a minute.
Have Dak. Got good field position.
You were playing for a tie.
Twelve seconds left. You never made a shot at the end zone.
Jerry Jones is the most aggressive owner in the NFL.
Dallas is as aggressive anti-regulation as any city in the United States.
I don't want to hear about snap infractions.
I don't want to hear about the clang as the ball hit the post.
I don't care about that stuff.
That final drive, you were playing for a tie.
12 seconds to go with the 31, never took a shot at the end zone.
And by the way, if you don't trust DAC, and it looks like you don't trust DAC,
you got the wrong quarterback.
I mean, you keep telling me like DAC, but you're not showing me that with your actions.
When I watch Dallas play, you keep people.
say a lot. I don't do this. I do do this. You know what I look at? Actions. That's what I care
about. What do you do, not what you say. Jason Garrett keeps telling me he loves Dak. Jerry Jones,
I love Dak. I watch you play late. You don't love Dak. You don't trust Dak. Jason Garrett's a traffic
cop. Dak, look left, look right, walk slowly, slow down, go back to the curb. Dick, do.
New England goes for it. Philadelphia, I got my issue.
but Carson Wentz, they go for it.
Carolina yesterday, we go for it.
You can tell me how much you like Dak, but I'm watching your actions.
The most aggressive owner and the most aggressive city in the NFL, that is the most
passive finesse.
I shouldn't say finesse because they do run the football well, but I mean, you're playing for
ties here.
And by the way, Tony Romo, whenever Tony Romo does cowboy games, it's not a good look for
Dak Prescott because Tony Romo knows the truth.
This is the same playbook.
This is the same playbook.
So when Dallas pulls out a play, he knows where the play should go.
From the pocketball tipped and incomplete.
Well, this one, Dax's got to pull the trigger.
Watch Beasley on a slant.
Right there.
That's a big play.
And he's the number one option on that play.
And he just hesitated and went back to Swam.
Yeah.
Jason Garrett's not a go for a guy.
doesn't want to throw the ball down the field.
You know, don't mess with Texas.
Isn't that what they say?
Don't mess with Texas?
New motto.
If you wouldn't mind, we'd like to play for a tie.
Does that offend you?
We're going to settle here for this and settle here for that.
And I mean, you're watching that game.
Look at who have been Cowboy Legends.
Aggressive Michael Irvin.
Aggressive Tony Romo.
Aggressive Roger Staubach.
Aggressive Jimmy Johnson.
Aggressive Barry Switzer.
Aggressive Jerry Jones.
aggressive Bill Parcells.
I mean, this is a passive.
Look both ways.
No risk.
Drop it off underneath offense.
And you're not beating the Rams and you're not going to beat the Eagles and you're not
going to beat the Vikings and you're not going to beat the Saints.
And this weekend, you're not going to beat Carolina that way.
And stop telling me you trust love DAC because I don't see it.
You're saying it, but I don't see it.
Good stuff.
What a crazy weekend.
I mean, it's just great.
You got fights at a Laker game.
Got an incredible world series.
Jim Harbaugh now, as predicted is in control.
Only team of the big town without a conference loss.
Coming up next.
You ever see the movie Jaws?
Just because you can't see a shark doesn't mean the shark is not out there.
And in the NFL, it's out there.
You may not see it, but it's out there.
And that is coming up next.
Fall is here. As you switch out your wardrobe, don't neglect your underwear. And now is the perfect
time to upgrade or restart your drawers with the all-new fall colors and prints from Tommy John.
Listen, they obsess over every little detail. They now have men's and women's underwear.
No wedge-y guarantee. Stay-put waistbands, range of fabrics, feather light, moves with you,
doesn't move against you. And that means no bunching, no writing up. They're so confident at Tommy

By the way, the Patriots won.
And again, last two weekends, Patriots,
the best detail-oriented team I've ever seen.
They're obsessed on it.
Not about fun, about grinding.
They won by a yard yesterday.
They won by a play the week before.
And this is the way it works every year for New England.
They win their playoff games by this much.
Every Super Bowl, the Patriots have been in.
All eight have been won or lost by a field goal.
That's just the way all of them work.
That's why they're obsessed with details.
By the way, everybody says,
falling in love. And I watched him yesterday.
And Gronk got hurt and he doesn't play. And Sony
Michelle doesn't play much. And it's in Chicago. And once again,
they dropped 38 points. Four straight games.
38, 38, 38, 43, 38.
They're first in the NFL in the last four games in wins,
in points, in point differential and first downs.
And they're doing it. Gronk wasn't there. Philadelphia,
I don't want to hear excuses. Sony, Michelle, got hurt.
I don't want to hear about Philadelphia's excuses for running backs.
They're rebuilding their offensive.
line. They've got a new left tackle.
They don't have Deon Lewis. They don't have Malcolm
Butler. They don't have Danny Amandola.
They don't have Nate Soulder.
And here they go again in October.
And they look like the best team in the National Football League.
And I know we're celebrating the Rams.
And I know we're celebrating the Chiefs.
And I understand that they're flashy and fun.
Abbs and bikinis at the beach and the frisbee's going
around with Patrick Mahomes and Jared Gough and the sand and the
boogie boards. But John Goulet,
you hear the music too, don't you?
You know there's something out there in the water.
And you're up there on your paddleboard, chiefs.
You're out there on your surfboard rams.
Beach volleyball, good times.
You know who's under that water.
It's Tom Brady, and that Finn's got a 12 on it.
Yeah.
I mean, here we go again.
We're falling in love with all these teams on the surface
and their points and their Bomberuski's.
I'm watching New England yesterday.
I watched them against Houston.
I watch them against Kansas City.
And this is just what they do.
By the way, they got another loss in him.
I'm going to predict now 12 and 4, 13 and 3.
They're going to get a buy.
Unlike the Chiefs who have a real team in their division,
the Chargers are a real football team.
Get ready to play in Foxborough in January,
which, by the way, Foxborough in the playoffs,
Tom Brady is 19 and 3.
and the only team that's given him struggles, the Baltimore Ravens,
not the Kansas City Chiefs.
So you can blow me away with all this beach volleyball and the abs and the bikinis
and the Bud Light and the beers.
But underneath the water, you see that fin out there.
That's got 12 on it.
And you know what they do.
You're kicking your feet up there, celebrating spike in the football.
And that shark under the water, it sees you, and it's circling.
Collin, beware.
You're going to need a bigger boat.
Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Out on sharks, Colin.
You love sharks?
I'm out on sharks.
Well, you lived in Miami for years, so you've seen a few.
You know, I haven't been in the water here since I've been to California.
Yeah.
Nothing more than my toes.
Okay.
Because unlike the Miami water that's like warm and tropical, this just looks like there's sharks in it.
So LeBron debuted in L.A. Friday night.
We were there.
It was a great scene.
But things got a little heated in the fourth quarter.
Brandon Ingram shoved James Harden after being called for a foul.
And Chris Ball and Rajanando got in each other's faces.
And some spit was released.
Yeah, share.
And some punches were thrown.
And LeBron got in the middle of it to break up his banana boat friends and his new teammates.
and after the game, LeBron wouldn't say too much about the fight.
I didn't see anything.
I didn't say nothing to my team after the game.
Just try to calm things down.
That's all.
Play basketball.
We was right there.
It was a one-point game, and we had an opportunity to win the game.
Coach said what he had to say.
Come in tomorrow, get better.
You know, everyone's focusing on the suspensions
and the fact that the fight happened at all.
but the real story, I think, is how LeBron reacted to this fight.
He didn't get involved.
No, no, no, no.
He got involved in the wrong way.
You can't have Rondo and Lance Stevenson and Javelle McGee
and try and build this whole team around grit and toughness.
And then when a fight breaks out, you go with your banana boat friend on the other side of the court.
Now, there's nothing wrong.
We all know that LeBron is not a confrontational guy.
So there's nothing wrong with, you know, pushing somebody out of the, out of the,
the fight. But you can't walk with it. I mean, look at him. He's walking with his arm around
him to the middle of the court. I honestly think that's going to be a problem. They're going to
have to have a conversation about it for sure. I've got more thoughts coming up on this. I thought
it was a I'll just. We'll get to it. Yes, I'll get to it. But the NBA suspended
Brandon Ingram for four games. Rondo got three games and Chris Paul got two games all without
pay. So you just mentioned it. The chief slated on the Bengals last night, 45 to 10. Patrick
Mahomes continues to light up that stat sheet.
Yesterday he threw four touchdown passes, which gives him 22 touchdown passes in the first
eight games of his career breaking the previous record of 21 set by Kurt Warner.
And Mojumns continues to remain surprised but humble.
You think you're going to have success, but I mean, I didn't expect just this much
by the same time.
I mean, I knew with the weapons that we had and I knew if I just ran and did what Coach Reed
wanted me to do, that it was a chance that we could be really, really good.
We literally have fun every single day.
I mean, we love coming to work, I guess you would say,
and getting to just play this game that we've loved since we were little kids
and I win a lot of football games.
Now, the good news for them, because their defense is not great,
the good news is they're going to get Eric Berry back at safety,
who's just absolutely phenomenal.
And they're going to get Justin Houston, the pass rusher back,
to go along with D. Ford.
So, listen, their defense isn't great right now,
but the good news is they are getting a pass rusher
and probably the most talented safety.
in football back. So the offense is going to be fine, although I will say Kansas City gets a little
windy and a little wet and a little cold. It's not going to always be. I mean, right now,
so far outside of that Jacksonville game, it's been a lot of sunshine and a lot of good weather.
It'll be a real test post Thanksgiving because this is a vertical, high-flying offense,
and New England beat it by four yards at a pop. So I think they have some challenges going forward,
but they're fun to watch.
They are.
Their running game is legitimate, too, though.
And their upcoming schedule, they have the Broncos at home,
then they're at the Browns, then they have the Cardinals,
the Rams Monday night game, then they have the Raiders.
They have a favorable schedule coming up as well.
Finally, speaking of the Browns, after the Brown's,
grim offensive performance during their overtime loss of the bucks,
Hugh Jackson was a little upset,
and he isn't ruling out taking the play calling back
from offensive coordinator, Todd Haley.
Being a head coach and ain't an offensive guy who's done this, I think I have every right as a head coach to jump in here and see if I can help.
I feel like I have to, and I want to.
You know, that's what I know.
So I'm not going to continue to watch something that I know how to do.
Keep being that way.
That's just the truth.
I'm the head coach of the football team, period.
Period.
There's nothing else that needs to be said.
Nothing.
It's the way it works.
I'm the head coach of the football team.
That's it.
Well, he's throwing Todd Haley under the bus here, which is not great.
Right, because Haley's very intense.
What he's basically saying is, I don't like what our offense is doing.
And by the way, the offense against a terrible defense, Tampa's defense is awful.
Their offense didn't do anything for three quarters.
So, you know, I'll get into that as well later.
But he's basically throwing his coordinator under the bus.
Or because he's not going to throw Baker under the bus because Baker's the franchise future
and you could fire Todd Haley tomorrow.
Well, Cleveland went without an offensive coordinator of the first two seasons after Jackson took over as a head coach.
and we remember how that went.
So I don't like this at all.
I don't like throwing your coordinators under the bus publicly
saying that you need to step in there.
Don't get emotional.
You're the one who's supposed to be steady.
Behind the scenes, get as emotional as you want.
But don't go out there and throw Todd Haley under the bus
and then talk about how you're going to take it over.
It means it's you're micromanaging.
You have an offensive coordinator for a reason.
Now, if you want to step in during meetings or whatever else,
that's on you.
Of course, we know you're the head coach.
Hugh Jackson on Hard Knocks did this too.
He keeps reminding everybody.
I'm the boss.
We know.
If you keep saying it, we might question that you really are.
Everybody knows Belichick's the boss.
He doesn't have to keep reminding everybody he's the boss.
Hugh Jackson did it in Hard Knocks.
He's doing it now.
You know, I said when Baker came into this league,
you're going to have to overcome some dysfunction.
Sam Darnold doesn't have to overcome nearly as much dysfunction
as Baker's going to have to overcome,
and you're seeing it root its head right now.
Yeah. Enjoy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
heard lie news.
By the way, the Laker fight, you heard about the fines.
I don't have any interest in arguing whose fault it was.
But if you were wondering what kind of Laker team this was going to be, well, this is it.
You don't bring Rondo, Michael Beasley, Javail McGee, and Lance Stevenson, scrappy players to a team, and then say, you know, he's got a big scrap on Saturday night.
This is what the Lakers are going to be.
LeBron James and Magic Johnson knew when they put this public.
upy together. Remember, they got Rondo later.
When LeBron signed here, they had Coosma, they had Josh Hart,
they had Lonzo Ball, they had Brandon Ingram.
They went and got Lance Stevens, and they went and got Beasley,
they went and got Javale McGee, they went and got Rondo. Why?
Because this is how they're going to win.
This was a one-point game when this happened, and Houston's a lot better than the Lakers
are.
Houston's a lot better than the Lakers are, and it was a one-point game.
And this team is tough and annoying and agitating and scrappy,
and that's the way they're going to win.
Magic and LeBron knew.
We don't have enough shooters.
It's a shooters league.
They knew that.
So they went, when LeBron got here,
after he got here,
they added scrappy guys.
And this is what scrappy guys do.
This is what scrappy players do.
Golden State's going to beat you with finesse and skill.
Houston can beat you with some skill.
This is basically for them to win this year.
Now, it's off-brand because Laker teams are usually skill
and fun and smiles.
And this team is the bad boys with palm trees.
I mean, you're going to have to win like the pistons with palm trees.
And that's off brand for the Lakers.
But that's what this team is.
If you're wondering what kind of team they are, this is what kind of team they are.
They are becoming exactly what they recruited in free agency and found in trades.
This is it.
A team, by the way, they're already 29th in the NPA and three-point shooting.
Okay?
because, as we predicted, they'd be 29th in the NBA and three-point shooting.
So here was the fight, if you did not see it and did not hear it, roll the tape.
Oh, look out, little extracurricular.
It's Ingram and Hardin.
Oh, oh, oh, no, look out.
Run punches.
They are throwing punches.
About 10 rows up, so he's got a front row seat.
There's going to be some suspensions, suspensions.
You have seen scuffles and fights.
in the NBA, but this has taken it to another level.
This is kind of what they're going to beat.
Now, again, Laker fans, all you celebrities, never forget,
there's a hockey team that plays at Staples.
Some nights the Lakers are going to look like the hockey team.
You may get some blood on your nice outfits on the front row at Laker games,
but they're going to be a physical team.
You don't get Rondo and Lance Stevenson and Michael Beasley without knowing this is what
you're going to be.
and those young players are all kind of growing and emerging players,
but this locker room right now is controlled by Rondo,
and it's controlled by LeBron James.
And by the way, if you watch the minutes being played,
Lance Stevenson's playing a lot.
And that tells you Luke Walton is creating a culture.
And that culture is, I want Lance out there,
I want LeBron out there, I want Rondo out there.
And by the way, you know who else is playing a lot?
Josh Hart, the toughest young guy they got.
They know this is what they're going to be.
They're not going to shoot.
They're not going to be a net.
Now, I don't think this Laker team will look like this in three years,
but this is a version of the L.A. Kings.
This is what they're going to do this year.
All right, let me shift to this.
I always told you, Baker Mayfield's good enough to play in the NFL.
I think he's closer to Case Keenham than Russell Wilson.
I would not have picked him number one.
I think for a cold weather city like Cleveland, a 5-11 and a half guy who's not that athletic,
who's got a little nonsense in his personality, for my opinion.
I wouldn't have picked him number one.
I would have picked Sam Darnold.
Baker Mayfield, I disagree with everybody.
I don't think he's playing well.
Cleveland's defense gave him the ball four times yesterday.
They forced four turnovers.
If you're giving your quarterback four turnovers and you still can't move the ball
for three quarters against the worst defense in the NFL, I don't think you're playing well.
I know you, you know, Twitter's tell me Baker Mayfield's lighting it up.
It's not what I see.
He's 30th in the NFL in completion percentage.
He's 29th in passer rating.
Colin, Sam Darnold.
Sam Darnold played half the college games, did not stay in college for five, stayed in college for three.
Sam Darnold's got nothing around him.
And I mean nothing around him.
This team has enough running backs that they traded one this week.
Jarvis Landry, better O line.
Two years older, double the college starts.
And by the way, this is the easy part of the Cleveland schedule.
Now they go to the Steelers off a buy week.
They've also got games at Carolina, at Sincy, at Baltimore, playing Denver, playing Kansas City.
This was the easy part.
And it's going to get colder and the defenses are going to get nastier.
And you keep telling me on Twitter how great he's playing.
There's something called a QBR, a quarterback rating.
For years and years you have the passer rating.
And people, and I don't pay too much attention to passer rating.
It's something.
It's not everything.
But it's something.
And then they created a bunch of NFL people created QBR and they count your defense.
Like if your defense is great and giving you advantages and you can't score, that's negative on QBR.
And they also count, they don't count yards after catch.
So if you throw a nice little slant and the guy runs 80, they don't give you all the yards on that.
And the QBR, Baker's was 19.9 yesterday.
50 is considered average.
Baker Mayfield didn't play well yesterday.
Baker Mayfield has a real running game.
That defense is absolutely atrocious.
Canva Bay's defense is awful.
Everybody in the league has lit that defense up.
Everybody. There's only one quarterback that scored fewer points than Baker Mayfield against that defense. Nick Foles. That defense is awful.
Yesterday, Sam Darnold played the Vikings. It's 11th and it's good and it's talented. So I don't, and I don't want to sit here and compare them every week. But everybody on Twitter's tell me how good Baker's playing. They had 126 yards and three quarters. His QBR was 19. 50s bad. They have so many running backs. They could trade one. They've got a real star wide receiver. They got a better own line than the Jets. I don't see him playing well.
I just don't.
I think he gets sacked too much.
I think he sometimes struggles to see the ball downfield because of his size.
And we can keep comparing him back and forth, but he's got double the starts of Darnold.
He's got five years in college, not three.
That's called a Masters.
I don't think he's playing well.
By the way, Hugh Jackson came out and said, I'm going to take over the offense.
What's that telling you?
He's not happy.
Hugh Jackson's like, we're getting four turnovers.
This defense is nasty, and we're losing games, and we can't move the ball the first three quarters.
So I disagree with Twitter.
I don't think he's playing great.
Doug Gottlieb's around the corner.
It is a Monday.
We are absolutely packed.
We are, and by the way, the next couple of weeks are going to be,
we got the perfect world series, NBA underway,
Jim Harbaugh now in control of the Big Ten
and Doug Gottlieb around the corner.
In L.A., it's the herd.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
on Fox Sports Radio, FS1, and the IHeard Radio app.
It's not waste any time.
He's my buddy Fox Sports Radio after our show.
The Doug or Doug Gottlieb on a Monday next hour.
Colin Wright, Colin Wrong, James Harrison.
There's Doug Gottlieb.
Yes, let's hear it foreign.
There we go.
All right, listen.
So there's so many things to talk about.
Let's start with, I said at the top of the show,
I said people say things, but what you do, I pay attention to.
Jerry keeps telling me loves DAC,
and Jason Garrett keeps telling me he loves.
Dak. I don't think they love
Dak. Yeah, well, now we've had two
opportunities, whether it's a Houston game
or yesterday's game against their
rival, the Redskins, to give
Dak, Prescott, a chance to go
for it, and Jason Garrett has said, pass.
Now, some of that, in terms of conservative
nature, I like.
I understand Twitter says Mike Brable
was right yesterday. Mike Brable was wrong
yesterday. I agree. Okay? The
Chargers were on the field for 36
minutes defensively. Kick the
extra point. Go to overtime.
Chargers defense gassed. Whether you get the ball first or get the ball second, it doesn't really matter.
Totally great. You got a great shot to win it. Okay? And look, Frank Reich went for it and that saved the Texan season.
So I'm okay with Jason Garrett being conservative because of his years in the NFL tell you that sometimes it's smart to play for overtime.
On the other hand, how many times do we have to see him take the ball out of his quarterback's hands before he realized that much like the Jacksonville Jaguars last year in the AFC championship game, right?
oh, we love, we trust Blake Bortals, but with 59 seconds to go, we're going to take a knee.
Yes.
Women will tell you this all the time.
Actions not words, big boy, right?
Show me, don't tell me.
The Cowboys can say they love Dak.
He's their future.
He's their franchise quarterback.
Actions, not words.
Taking the ball out of his hands because you don't trust him and his ability to make the right
reads, the right decisions, tells you all you need to know about how they do, how they, and by the way,
that's how they should feel about Dak Prescott.
They've smartly used him more as a runner the past couple weeks.
they know. He's better at being a runner than he is at being a thrower or throwing guys open,
especially in really, really tight windows.
Listen, I still like Philadelphia to win their division, although I think, I predicted yesterday.
I think Washington's going a nice little five out of six run here. Washington's offense is limited,
but I think in that division, Alex Smith will do what Alex Smith does. He'll win 21 to 20 a lot of
weeks. But I watch Philadelphia and listen, okay, we've got running back injuries. So to the
Patriots. Oh, we're missing this receiver. They're missing
Gronk. What separates New England from even a great team
like that with a great GM is
Dionne Lewis, Nate Solder, Gronks out. Details,
details, six of seven, one possession.
Philadelphia looks loose to me. They look a little loose to me.
No question. And you and I both saw this coming, right? The Shakespearean
quote as heavy as the head that wears the crown. It's a little bit different when you
walk around, you puff out your chest, and you can't sneak up on
anybody. First thing is, I'm not sure if I've heard
admit that you said the Patriots dynasty was essentially over.
I kind of felt that. And that Brady and Belichick were on their path to divorce.
It appeared that. They got therapy.
So they went to a good therapist?
Yes. And they talked it out? Yes.
So you're saying you were wrong?
Yeah, I think, I think when New England, they look like they have the last 13 years.
Yes.
That it's October and good God, they're under the water.
Everybody's splashing up top, having a good time. And it's like that number 12 fins circling around.
Now, it should be pointed out that Sony and Michelle getting hurt, and suppose the reports are today is going to get an MRI.
It's not as bad as it was feared.
Yes.
But that's their ticket, right?
We can run the football.
We can keep the chiefs off the field and the playoffs.
We can keep the Steelers off the field and the playoffs.
Like, we're a little bit different.
But yeah, they just figured out as opposed to the Eagles who, remember last year they had to reach out and make a trade for running back.
Yeah.
This year, so far, Levyon Bell, there doesn't look like they'll be able to.
to trade for. Maybe they bring Shady McCoy back, maybe. But yeah, like, I would agree. This is a different
team. They don't have the same tenacity, the same finishing ability. And you can tell me that they
could have won yesterday against Carolina, but they could have lost through the season against the
Atlanta Falcons in the first game. You know what I think happened, Doug? Listen, nine of their last
11 games dating back to last year or one possession games. And in fact, one of those against Oakland,
if you go back to the game, it really was a one possession game. So the Super Bowl champs that we all
love their owner, love their gym, love their coach.
Ten of the last 11 games are won possession.
That's this league.
That's why when Belichick says, no days off, everybody rolls their eyes, but you can't
take a lot of days off in this league.
I'm watching, Tennessee is about six plays from us loving them and us hating them.
Yeah, well, and sometimes you have one of those years where things go right.
Yes.
Right?
Take the Chargers, which we talked about a little bit.
The Chargers historically lose that game yesterday.
Yes.
Right?
Like, wait, wait, wait.
Guy, wide receivers dropping passes, bizarre play calling,
and a missed field goal.
That sounds like the Chargers.
It was the Titans.
So sometimes what happened last year for the Eagles was everything that could have gone wrong,
and they did have some injuries, but winning games at the end went right.
This year, sometimes it works out the other way.
Water finds its level, if you will.
I'm concerned about Philadelphia because I thought, all right,
they're starting to click.
They're starting to click.
They're starting to click, and then you take a step back in how you finish yesterday.
Granted, it was an exciting game.
It was a mess of a game.
It was one of my favorite games to watch this year.
Right.
But it's starting to feel like one of those years, which now it's an uphill battle,
and a team that came in winning 83% of their home games is getting closer and closer
to having to play on the road in order to get back to the Super Bowl.
I said Donald should have gone number one for a couple of reasons.
It's a big Northern Cold Division.
I also think Cleveland's dysfunctional and his, Sam's personality.
works in New York with dysfunction.
By the way, USC's been dysfunctional for eight years.
He overcame dysfunction.
Now Donald's gone.
USC's gone full dysfunction.
And I watched Baker yesterday.
Hugh Jackson's coming out here.
Whatever you think of,
Baker, Hugh Jackson's coming out here.
And calling out Todd Haley,
this to me is one of the great challenges
of Baker Mayfield's going to face.
That's just dysfunctional.
You just don't do that.
You didn't know that Todd Haley would be a problem?
I mean, it never, it didn't work in, it hasn't worked the last seven or eight years,
no matter where he's been in terms of him getting along with others in the coaching room,
getting along with others sometimes his own quarterback and Ben Rathesberger got him
basically run out of Pittsburgh.
I'll say this about Baker.
What, what the Chargers exposed and what I think Tampa took some from is he is having
trouble seeing down the middle of the field.
He's very good inside the numbers.
And they, the Chargers built a.
wall and he struggled to see.
And they're struggling, the Browns are, to find a second wide receiver.
They don't really have one now that Josh Gordon's gone.
They don't have, they thought they were going to have an outstanding wide receiving
core.
Now they really have one guy.
They got a bunch of running backs, but outside the numbers is not what their offense is designed.
So they're going to have to rework some things.
I will give Hugh credit.
He is a really good offensive mind.
And maybe that's what's needed.
Yeah.
But, you know, you watch hard knocks and you're like, yeah, I don't, I don't see that.
coaching room working. This is, well, maybe the least surprising thing to come out of Cleveland ever.
Okay. And finally, I want your thoughts on the Lakers Rockets fight. I said, this is what they are.
They went out, Magic and LeBron and said, we can't shoot, let's get Rondo, let's get Beasley,
let's get DeVail, let's get Lance, play them a bunch, and we'll fight and scrap, and this is how
we're going to win game. That, I saw what I thought I'd probably see a half dozen times this year.
Yes, I agree with you in terms of, they've tried to create a competitive culture, and the word
competitive sometimes reads this type of nonsense, right?
They knew, like, Rondo being in the first fight of the season is the least surprising
storyline ever. Brandon Ingram coming in and sucker punching out of nowhere is a little bit
more surprising.
But here's, first, LeBron, he's out of rhythm, he's playing too fast, he's playing more
powerful than he's ever played.
It's going to be interesting to see if they continue to play at this style at this pace,
and LeBron is cool with it if he can adjust his game to it, because he's not.
not shooting the ball particularly well.
And that's what happens when you're taking different shots and playing at a different tempo than you've ever played before.
But the big key here is this.
We all knew Lonzo was going to get a chance to be the starting point guard.
Yes.
We just didn't know when.
Yeah.
And Rajan Rondo said, here, here, young fella, now's your chance.
That's what happens when you get into a fight.
You create an opportunity.
And Lonzo, the first game, he looked out of it.
The first quarter the other night against the Rockets, he looked out of it.
They're daring him to shoot.
Then he hit two.
And all of a sudden, his defense is better.
He's got a little hop in his step.
And he missed the entire offseason in terms of five-on-five work
and a lot of individual work that you need.
The most important time for an NBA player
is at the end of that first season, into your second season.
You get to dominate in Summer League.
You get a whole off-season working with the strength coach.
You get a whole off-season working with your individual coach.
And he missed that.
So they don't necessarily think he's ready for this,
but ready or not, we're going to find out if Lonzo Ball
can be the starting point guard for the future
over the next couple of games because Rondo has given him that chance
and the schedule lightens up as they play against the spurs
who have lost their top two point guards for the year due to injury
and of course Tony Parker's now in Charlotte so if Lanzo can't do it now
he may not get another opportunity for a long long time this is a great one
great chance for him coming up at Staples yeah and I and I
think listen I love the NBA I love I love the trip through the NBA but
Bruce Ard said this the big challenge for this
Laker team is your first point. LeBron, to make this thing work, is going to have to maybe include
Lonzo, and Lonzo needs the ball, and LeBron's going to have to maybe play off it, and this is going to
take 30 games. It'll take a while. I will say this about Lonzo. He actually shoots it pretty well
off the basketball, catch and shoot. His problem is there's such a massive hitch in a shot off the
dribble that it limits some of the things that he can do. So I actually think he fits better with
LeBron than Rondo does.
Because Rondo's a non-shooter, but a non-shooter that either has the basketball and wants to
make the pass for the shot, or you put him below the rim in what's called the ghost position
where he can catch.
He's a much better finisher than Lanzo is.
But Lanzo plays at a great pace.
The ball gets up the court, and he has no problem deferring and getting the ball to
LeBron James.
I actually think those two work together better, but we'll see this is Lanzo Ball's
chance to retake that position.
Doug Gottlieb, Fox Sports Radio after us.
Colin Wright, Colin wrong, hour two, on a Monday next.
Ah, this is the herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening live in Los Angeles.
Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio, and FS1.
Joy Taylor is joining me on a Monday.
NBA in full swing.
NFL is on fire.
World Series starts tomorrow.
This is the absolute best time of the year.
in sports in America. March has its moments when it's really good, late March into April.
This is as good as it gets. Let's not waste any time. We do it every Monday throughout the course of the year at this time, where Colin was right, where Colin was wrong.
Where Colin was right?
The best football picking year I've ever had. Six or seven weeks, the Blazing Five won again. I could have been four and O yesterday, if not for a missed extra point.
I said the Colts would be the lock of the year over the bills.
I picked the Panthers to upset Philadelphia in Philadelphia,
and I guaranteed Washington would beat Dallas over 60%.
It's just one of those years where the numbers are lining up,
and yes, I've already checked out the numbers for this week,
and I've already got my Blazing Five picked.
Where Colin was wrong.
Cam Newton did all the things I never trust with Cam Newton.
He was accurate.
it. He drove the ball, not throwing off his back foot. He was better late in games. He was a leader. He made
tough throws. I'll say this about Cam. I've had my criticisms, but now he has multiple touchdown
passes in five straight games. He's never done that before, and a lot of it is Norv Turner. So what
it shows me, despite all the fame and the looks and the money, he is coachable. He still throws the
ball too reliant on his arm and not enough on technique, mechanics, and his legs, but he was
fantastic in the fourth quarter. He was poised. He was in control of the football game, and it was
the cam I wish I got more of. Where Colin was right. Meanwhile, Andy Dalton shrinks like a cheap t-shirt
every time the lights are on. He's now officially 0 for 6 on Sunday night football. He is two for 13 against
the Steelers and yesterday against the worst defense in the league. He was awful. 15 to 29.
Cincinnati got 10 points. I mean, come on. Come on. He's a C-plus quarterback. I've been battling
this for years. Some guys rise to the moment and some guys shrink. And I don't even need to tell
you the guys that rise, but I do have to keep reminding you of the guys that shrink. It's not
that he's 0 for 6 on Sunday Night Football. He often plays his worst games of
of the year in prime time.
Yesterday, as passer rating was under 85,
his completion percentage in 2018 was under 59.
Where Colin was wrong.
I predicted Brandon Ingram would assert himself very quickly
as the number two guy in the Lakers behind LeBron.
Well, he won't play for the next four games.
He got into a fight and is suspended.
He has not hit in two games a three-pointer.
He has looked at times passive.
In fact, right now Javeil McGee,
is leading Brandon Ingram in points per game.
And Josh Hart, by the way, is the young player that everybody in L.A. is talking about.
And Josh Hart from Villanova's got a ceiling, but he plays his butt off and he's really tough.
And he doesn't back down from anybody.
And Brandon Ingram was the guy I thought would assert himself game one.
Two games in, doesn't look like I was hoping he'd look like.
Where Colin was right?
Oh, Jim Harbock and coach.
Hmm, interesting.
Sometimes the media, I don't even understand.
what they're saying. The media going into this year was comparing him to the guy he replaced Brady
Hoke. Brady Hoke in his fourth year was five and seven. Michigan now has firm control of the
conference, just steamrolled Wisconsin and Michigan State, only Big Ten team without a loss,
and in control coupled with Ohio State's loss. Their defense is the best in the conference.
I don't think they're good enough to beat in Alabama or a Clemson or Oklahoma. I still have
concerns about their offensive line. But do people in the media, do you just attach yourself and
not, don't we have the time to do data and facts? He won in San Diego. He took an 0-12 team in
Stanford in one. He took the 49ers in one year and took them from 6 and 10 to 13 and 3.
And you think he's Brady Hoke. Okay, Michigan may never be Alabama. The dude can coach.
We told you on Friday. He's going to win this game convincingly. And by the end of the weekend,
He's going to have control of the Big Ten, and voila, he does.
Where Colin was wrong.
The Toronto Raptors beat the Celtics.
They are 3-0 and they beat the Celtics.
Listen, it's nothing against the Raptors, but they're sort of like the country they play in Canada.
They're nice.
They're pleasant.
They're likable.
Not a lot of dog, not a lot of alpha.
But they beat the Celtics.
They even won a game this weekend without Kauai Leonard.
The media has loved the Raptors for years.
They give good quotes.
They're sports.
They're progressive.
But in the end, you know, big arm wrestling contest in April.
Do you really trust them?
Not really.
But they've looked good and Kauai Leonard is fit right in.
Where Colin was right?
Saxonville is officially mediocreville.
Come on, man.
Blake Bortles got benched for Cody Kessler.
I mean, there you go.
And I've said I doubled down on it last week.
The way to solve a problem is admit first.
you've got a problem.
Not a single Jaguar player in that locker room buys Blake Bordels.
In fact, there was reportedly a fight in the Jacksonville locker room after the game.
You can tell players things, but you can't fool players.
Nobody buys Blake Bordles.
That's why I said Jacksonville 10 and 6 will pull way back.
I said there'll be 8 and 8.
Andrew Lux's back.
DeShon's Watson's back.
And they'll go to their rightful number three spot in the end.
AFC South.
Where Colin was wrong.
I love aggressive play calling.
And I always say, be aggressive.
Be like the Eagles.
Aggressive, aggressive, aggressive.
Like Doug Gottlieb said, I hated what Tennessee did.
They're now 0 and 7 on two-point conversions.
Listen, for the rest of you teams, keep going for it.
For Tennessee, let's scale back.
Mario does not go on the two-point conversion thing.
And as Doug pointed out, the chargers were on the field and gassed.
You just get the extra point.
You go to overtime, you feel like you've outplayed that football team.
If you feel you've outplayed a team, then go to overtime.
If you feel you're lucky to be in the position you're in, then go for the win.
Tennessee had played well.
They played good enough to beat an excellent charger team.
You kick the extra point.
That's one of those aggressive for aggressive sake.
I didn't like it.
Where Colin was right?
Lakers are 29th and three-point shooting.
24th, 24% threes.
Listen, some problems in basketball don't go away.
Short teams can't get tall.
And bad shooting teams don't become good shooting teams.
LeBron's only hit one three-pointer.
We can sit here every day and try to figure out this, this, this, this.
Luke Walton has got one major problem, and it's not solvable.
as we said before the year,
they're going to be bottom five, bottom eight teams
all year long in threes.
And right now, they're shooting 24%.
And by the way, that's against the Rockets
who are not a great defensive team
and Portland's back court.
Damian Lillard is CJ McCullough.
They don't play defense.
These are not elite defensive teams they've played,
even in their own building.
They can't hit them.
Where Colin was right,
where Colin was wrong on a Monday.
So I told you last week I wanted Dodgers and I wanted Red Sox because I wanted stories and I wanted stars and I didn't want Craig Counsel going to the mound 11 times in a game.
I get analytics. I prefer analytics. I watch sports to watch great, great achievement.
Whether the Olympics, the World Cup, I want to see Ronaldo. I want to see Messi. I don't want to see managers walk to the mound.
But we almost got that. Game 7, Dodgers in Milwaukee, season came down.
of this play. It's a remarkable play. It is absolutely remarkable. It's six inning.
Brewers trail by a run. Stadium is buzzing. They get a man on. Their best hitter comes up.
The Dodgers go to the pen specifically for this. And here is the season, the play of the year
in baseball, Chris Taylor. In the air to left, into the gap. With a run-saving catch and who knows how much more.
got a great jump, ran a mile, and used every inch of that leather.
What a play.
And that kick started some momentum.
From there, the Dodgers came up next inning and got some runners on.
Yassio Pueig jacked it out.
But listen, if you live in Los Angeles, you go to Little League fields.
The kids are talking about Pueg, and in Boston they're talking about Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez and Chris Sales and Fenway Park in Dodgers Stadium.
I'm not anti-analytics.
I had lunch, actually, Saturday with probably the leader in the NBA in analytics,
Darry, the general manager of the Rockets.
And we always joke.
I call them analytics.
I like 60% analytics and 40% man analytics.
I don't think with 21-year-old men, you can turn them into pocket protector guys.
Sports isn't about numbers.
It's about in big moments doing big things.
Yassie O'Pueg, I don't care what the analytics say.
Yes, Yaseel Pug came up and won that series.
and Chris Taylor made a catch, and I don't care what analytics say,
because he's playing all over the place for the Dodgers defensively.
That was great sports, great story, great effort.
It wasn't about analytics, and I think we have a great World Series.
Not because it's on Fox, and I do think the Red Sox are better,
but that was as great a baseball play as I have ever watched live that I can remember.
God, it was just, that stadium was just about ready to collapse on the Dodgers.
You can feel the world caving in.
Here comes the Brewer's best hitter.
And now we got ourselves a great World Series.
Coming up next, James Harrison, Pro Bowler,
two Super Bowl rings.
Steelers on a bye week, but a lot to talk about,
and that's coming up next.
Be sure to catch live editions of the herd.
Weekdays in noon Eastern, 9 a.m. Pacific.
It all comes down to this as the World Series
begins tomorrow on Fox.
Mani Matado and the Dodgers take on mokey bets in the Red Sox.
Game one of the fall classic tomorrow at 730.
Eastern on Fox and the Fox Sports app.
When shopping for car insurance, Geico,
75 years, they know what they're doing, Geico.
It'll be very interesting to see Clayton Kirshaw
pitched ninth inning for the Dodgers.
So do you start him in no true rest for game one?
Chris Sale's going for the Red Sox,
who's going to win that anyway?
So it'll be interesting.
Or do you just rest Kershaw, make him capable of going seven
innings in game two,
and then you feel like you can use them in tank game two
in the crucial game six?
I'm not sure exactly what the Dodgers do on that.
Kershaw did pitch in the ninth.
He is their best starter, but he's not as dominant as he once was.
And with that, 15 NFL seasons, two rings, Patriot Steelers and the Bengals,
all-time leader for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Sacks,
defensive player of the year back in 2008.
James Harrison joining us in the herd on a Monday today.
All fired up.
Great to see him, my man.
So let me start with one thing.
I know, you know, I've never bought into Baker as a number one pick.
I think he's Case Keenham.
In case Keenham, if you give him the right, people can win games.
But yesterday, against a lousy defense, the Browns gave Baker four turnovers.
He's got some real pieces there.
They have enough running backs in Cleveland.
They traded one on the weekend.
I don't see Baker as a number one pick.
Unlike Twitter, I don't think he's playing great.
What do you see?
I didn't see him as a number one pick either.
I think they, you know, reached a little bit.
I feel that he is the best.
quarterback on that team right now. And he's a rookie, you know, he's doing rookie things right now.
So I think that's just part of the growing, you know, pains that you're going to have with a
rookie. I think they won a game, won a couple games with him. And all of a sudden, you know,
they were, you know, thinking he was the next coming. And, you know, that's just not the case.
Hugh Jackson called out essentially Todd Haley. I said when Baker got drafted, the thing,
the reason I would have taken Sam Darnold in a northern division against the Steelers Browns,
He's a bigger, stronger kid.
He's a 6-3, and he's all a 6-3.
Big hair, big hand, everything big.
And also, he can deal with a dysfunction in Cleveland.
He's a very kind of Phil Sims, low-key, can have a coach bark at him.
I think Cleveland already looks dysfunctional.
I think Haley and Hugh Jackson are already banging on.
Well, you got two real big personalities there.
Do you know right now?
Yeah.
Yeah.
And right now, you know, things aren't going exactly the way they wanted to go.
and, you know, they're feeling like the offense isn't doing exactly what they should have did,
especially after, you know, the output they just put up in, you know, Tampa there.
So, you know, he's the head coach.
He's feeling like this is my job.
I have done this before.
And, you know, that's what I do.
And, you know, this is what I'm going to do if I need to do it.
And, I mean, like he said, he's the head coach.
I don't know if that's the right thing to do because now you're questioning your own judgment that you made.
and hiring, you know, Haley.
I think the record before that was he won, what, one or two games before that as the coordinator.
So, I mean, he's already doubled your output in just the last, what, six, seven games.
So I would think you wouldn't go out there and call him out like that and be something behind closed doors like he said before.
But, you know, that's something that he did.
When you watch the Rams, they're obviously flashy.
The division right now is not great.
Arizona's rebuilding San Francisco Los Garoppolo.
They're rebuilding.
How good are the Seahawks.
Do you buy the Rams?
Yeah.
I buy the Rams because they are putting out.
And when it comes down to it, the defense is playing well.
I don't buy into the Kansas City thing.
The offense is playing great, no question about it, but they're dead lasting defense.
At some point in time, your defense is going to have to put up or shut up and they haven't
put up yet this year.
It's funny, James.
We forget a majority of games are played like.
November 10th on in this league.
And every year we fall for September, October,
you've been in this league forever.
Explain to the audience the difference
between Thanksgiving football on and pre- Thanksgiving.
Well, it's a feeling.
You know, you feel great at the beginning of the year,
to be honest with you.
It's when you get into that, them games after Thanksgiving,
you got, you know, eight, nine games on you now.
And it's the wear and tear of the season.
What guys are going to actually take care of their body
so that they're able to perform at the same level?
did in September.
What guys are still working out just as hard?
So they have that same strength that when it comes down
to November, December ball, they can still perform.
And a lot of guys, even when I played,
we played Cleveland beginning of the year,
and then you'd play them at the end.
And you would feel the difference of strength
in the guys that you were playing against.
They were a lot weaker than they were at the beginning of the year.
Yeah, the Rams come at you from a lot of different angles.
It's funny for all the flash.
They're kind of a power running team.
Yes.
It's a lot of Aaron Donald and Domenu in the middle of the defense, and it's a lot of Todd Gurley.
I mean, those two guys right there, you need four guys to block them in any, you know, past play that you're trying to do.
When you leave them one-on-one, you're taking a chance.
Yeah.
When you look at, you played briefly for the Patriots, but you know their culture.
So yesterday they won by a yard.
The week before they won by a play, what is the difference with them?
Because whenever it gets close, October on, I just feel like they won.
win these games. They play in all phases. And that was, you know, indicative of, like, what you just
saw, you know, yesterday, they, special teams came in and basically blew things up. It was two touchdowns.
You know, the offense, defense, special teams, they play well together. They, you know, everything
they do is the Patriot way. And they make sure they take care of every phase of the game. And that was,
you know, example of that. By the way, Josh Gordon does appear, James, that he's, there's an impact there.
Definitely. I mean, you got, you got somebody that's a real deep threat, you know, for time to
throw to. Yeah. So, you know, I said, people can tell me things. I'm mostly into show me things.
A lot of people talk. I work out hard. You actually did work out hard. The Cowboys keep telling me they love DAC.
Jerry Jones tells me he loves him. Jason Garrett tells me he loves him. But I keep watching them in these two-minute
drills and they're playing for field goals. I mean, when I watch Dallas, they're not telling me they
trust DAC. Isn't that what you are you seeing that? I see them playing like you said
conservative at the end of the day it's your starting quarterback and it's what
you know Jerry Jones believes to be his franchise quarterback that's his
feeling so you're not going to go against that and say something opposite but like you
said you're showing me that you don't believe that in the play calls that you're
giving him what you're allowing him to do. Do you like that? I like that as a person but I
think he's an average quarterback. Why? He's not that.
the guy that's going to go out there and, you know, give you a 300, you know, 50 yards if that's
what he has to do to get the win. I don't, I don't feel like he's that, uh, that quarterback.
You know, it's funny, Tim Tebow had a six-game winning streak in this league.
You have to be able to win. I had a coach tell me this once. He goes, this is why he didn't
buy into Tebow. He said, you can win six straight games with field goals and great defense. You
may have that. But over the course of 15 years, there are going to be years that six defensive
players get hurt and your special team stink.
If you can't win shootouts
in this league, then you're not a franchise quarterback.
Dax's not a, he's not
a shootout quarterback. Oh, no. He has to
play a specific way. Right.
And the game has to be close. It has to be close.
Yeah. You can't put him back there in gun
and expect him to slink it 40, 50 times
and come away with a win. And that's why
I think sometimes fans get fooled. Like Tebow goes
on a winning streak or, you know, Alex
Smith goes on a winning streak. If the
world's right and it's aligned on its
axis and your defense is playing their butts,
off. Yes, Alex Smith can reel off
nine out of ten wins.
But DAC plays one way, and if it doesn't
go that way, it's not a win.
Okay, so you, Philadelphia
is obviously a good team. I still think they'll win
their division. They got a good GM, a good coach,
good quarterback. By the way, Michael
Bennett was great yesterday. They got plenty of good
players. But it is different.
Hunting to being hunted.
And they don't James
quite look like last year.
Well, they're not the same
as last year. Like you said, you know, it's a
difference between being the underdog, you got something that you're trying to get, you know,
you're getting off your check, you're trying to prove someone wrong. Now you're the measuring stick.
You're the team that everybody is going to measure themselves against because the team that went
0 and 16, if they're playing you, right now they want to beat you because he can say to his team,
you guys went out there and beat defending Super Bowl champions. You yourself could beat Super Bowl champions.
You have it in you. You just showed me that when you beat this team. So right now what they're
getting is everybody's best shot and they don't understand.
that the work that it took to get there.
Like they started in probably January, February,
before they won the Super Bowl,
getting ready for the year that they did win the Super Bowl.
After this year was over with,
they probably didn't get started to OTAs.
You know, guys are celebrating.
You got, you know, so many engagements
that everybody wants to see the Super Bowl champion at.
You know, you're here, you're there.
And even after that's done, you know,
something slipped in there around July,
you know, for some type of celebration
to, you know, have a, you know,
one of the Super Bowl champions there.
So you guys didn't.
Oh, yes, definitely.
We had the same thing in 2005 and 2008.
Those two years, we didn't even make the playoffs after that.
Now, the year that we went in 2010 and lost to Green Bay,
we made the playoffs that next year.
Why?
Because we lost.
We had something to prove.
But when you go and you win that, you celebrate.
And, you know, a lot of guys celebrated too long.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, listen, when you win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia,
every car dealership, every car.
Exactly. Every car.
I'm telling you, everybody wants you here, they want you there.
And I'm not going to lie.
My first Super Bowl, I was a special teams player.
I literally made more money in that offseason than I did all year.
Because everybody wanted to have you there.
You know what I'm saying?
Because you were the Super Bowl champions.
And like I said, you're getting everybody's best shot that next year.
And you got to realize that.
Good seeing you, bud.
You too.
Yeah, those car dealers and those card shows.
You win a Super Bowl in Philadelphia, man.
You're making a lot of lettuce on the side.
James Harrison.
Now, Joy Taylor with the news.
No, no, no, no.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line news.
Talk about your guy, Colin.
After two straight home wins, the Jets struggle yesterday against the Vikings.
Sam Darnold looked a bit erratic while completing 17 of 42 passes for 206 yards,
one touchdown, and three picks.
And former Jets, Sheldon Richardson, said the Donald looked like he was uncomfortable
on a cold and windy day at MetLife Stadium.
He said he looked like he was cold.
He looked like he was frustrated a little bit.
He was frustrated with the play calling,
frustrated with his line a little bit.
He was frustrated.
Now, obviously, Darno played at USC.
Not a lot of cold weather there,
but he shrugged off any concerns that it affected him yesterday
and the Jets play the Bears next week.
So if cold weather's a problem,
he better figure it out.
Sam's a rookie.
He doesn't have much to work with.
A defensive coach and a defensive leaning staff.
Their best players are all on defense.
This was not hard to predict
This was almost one of my blazing five picks.
Sam is as good as the running game support he gets.
Which was not great.
Yeah, when he gets running game support, he's a rookie quarterback.
He's not going to go out there with that O line and those players and win games by himself.
You know, against Detroit, he got great help from defense.
You know, then against Indianapolis, he got great help from the running game.
Yesterday, he didn't get either of those.
And you're talking about a veteran Minnesota team with all sorts of weapons and a veteran quarterback.
that was incredibly predictable.
Well, something, well, probably that you and I felt like it was a little bit predictable,
but everyone else is not so sure about was the Jacksonville Jaguars.
And Doug Marone hit Jags fans with a little shocker yesterday,
and he benched Blake Bordles for Cody Kessler in the second half against the Texans.
They lost 20 to 7.
And after the game, Morone's reasoning was very simple.
You know, he did have the two fumbles,
but at the same time, I just literally did it to try to get a damn spark from this football team,
to put everyone on notice,
okay, to that they have to focus
and they have to go out there and play better.
And, you know, at points in the second half, they did that.
That's not fair to the quarterback,
but that's the way this business is.
So really, when we talk about it,
and the questions are going to be,
well, who's your starting quarterback next week?
And, you know, the focus will be on that.
But for me, it's on everyone.
Yeah, it's mostly a quarterback thing.
Well, that quarterback thing is going to be their quarterback thing for a while.
Because they sign them to a big contract.
Yes, and there's no way out of it.
Really, if they cut him, it would be $16.5 million of dead money,
which would be higher than the salary cap figure of any other player on the roster.
So this would shift forward to Jacksonville, a long time with Lake Bortles.
Finally, Chris Ball and Rajan Rondo traded punches in the fourth quarter of the Rockets Lakers game Friday night, as we know.
And Paul said that he threw the first punch because Rajan Rondo spit on him.
Yeah.
Now Rondo denied spitting on ball, but there's a new video that,
Oh, he did spit on him.
Yeah, he spit on him.
A little bit of spit.
Spittal escaping the mouth there.
So they're both suspended.
Rondo, three games, Chris Paul, two games, and obviously,
Brandon Engerman's four games.
Yeah, Rondo started it.
When you spit, you can't do that.
I don't know that Rondo necessarily started it.
I think this particular beef has been going on for years,
and it finally just the opportunity presented itself to become physical.
Look at Chris Paul.
Look at Chris Paul's eyes when Rondo.
spit. What are you looking at me like that for? Did he
spit or did he spit
while talking? No, I don't buy that.
If you're trying to spit on
someone, it's a lot more than that.
Rondo has a history of doing
this. He's chippy. This is what Rondo does.
I'm not going to deny
that that video is pretty obvious that he's
spitting. It's like a Zabrooter film here.
It's got it to the left,
back and to the left. It's incredible.
I don't know. This really
though, I know that the NBA doesn't like this
kind of fighting. This is really actually great.
especially for this matchup.
And if they meet in the playoffs...
Whenever you're in doubt if a player did something,
ask yourself a very simple question.
Does he have a history of doing stuff like this?
Yes.
Well, whether he spit on him or not,
it really doesn't...
Well, if you're a guy...
I'm not going to say it doesn't matter,
but I'm saying like this was going to happen
at one point in the game or another anyway.
Like, if you were watching the game,
they were chippy the entire game.
Chris Paul talks a lot.
People don't pay attention to what Chris Paul does.
But...
And this is wrong.
As a guy, like you said, this is Rondo's history.
As a guy, you can't spit on me.
You can't spit on anyone.
Yeah.
They would not have fought there without that spit.
They would have just jodd and been jerky.
I don't know.
I think that, I think Chris Paul thought he was just going to shove Rondo in the face
and that the ruffs were going to break it up before he.
Remember, the spit came before the push.
Right, but I'm saying, I think Chris Paul's reaction of not punching him, but giving him the eye push,
I think he thought they were going to break it up before it actually became a,
At all out fight.
Rondo.
By the way, Rondo is always good.
You know, there's two Rondos.
There's the TV game Rondo, and then there's the Tuesday at Denver Rondo.
So, I mean, I like Rondo, but we have a history with Rondo.
Games like this, he's all geared up inside.
Television games, TBS games, he's all geared up.
Rondo is, you know, we always think hardworking.
He works hard when the lights are on.
He makes a stink when the light.
This was a big game, so Rondo came.
ready to deliver.
And this is what you're going to get.
You wanted a bunch of grit and fight on your team.
Well, that's what you got.
Joy with the news.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Herd Lie News.
By the way, the Rams are 7 and 0, number one in the league in point differential.
Whether you buy them or not.
I mean, listen, Saturday is separation.
Bama, Oklahoma Clemson, they separate.
Sunday, it's close.
Games are close. Patriot games close.
Kansas City Chiefs, you know, Pittsburgh, New England, Denver game.
Could have won, could have lost, close.
Saints have been in four crazy games.
Browns have been in four overtime games.
I mean, even the games the Rams have been in that were close.
Denver, they were never threatened.
Seattle, if you watched it, they were the better team.
L.A. is, listen to this.
Vegas, Aaron Rogers, will be an eight and a half point underdog to the Rams this weekend.
Now, think about that.
the perceived best quarterback in the NFL, off a bye week, is an eight and a half point underdog to the Rams.
Okay, Derek Anderson was only a seven and a half point dog to the Colts,
and Derek Anderson was on that team for nine days.
So if you don't think they're good, Vegas does.
That is a, that's an incredible number.
that Aaron Rogers off extra time is getting eight and a half points.
They have separated.
And by the way, we all love Kansas City, but they struggle with Denver,
and they struggle with Pittsburgh, and they struggle with New England and lost.
And we all love the Saints, but they've had four close games, including one with Cleveland.
Rams just dismantle people.
And the Denver game, if you really watched it, really, really wasn't close.
They look like Alabama.
Alabama is like every game.
Alabama's got the better coach and the better players.
Rams right now, they got the better coach unless they face New England and they got the better players.
Last year, they had the offensive player of the year, the defensive player of the year, and the coach of the year, and they're all better.
You have no Packers this weekend, no Steelers this weekend.
Baker Mayfield gets the Steelers off a by.
Cleveland's schedule gets really tough.
Coming up next, Scott Zolick's around the corner.
one of the voices of the New England Patriots,
Karan Butler's around the corner.
By the way, many of you are asking me,
Colin, what's going on with all the kicking?
What you're seeing with NFL kicking
is something that was fairly predictable.
Kicking is the least active thing in football.
It's where a guy sits in the bench
and watches most of the game and then gets called in.
A lot of mental.
In sports, the less active you are,
a bullpen guy, a hitter,
a golfer sometimes.
when you're sitting and waiting and watching,
the more opportunity for stuff to get in your head.
Well, kickers used to kick the PAT.
That was the confidence builder for a kicker.
So they go to the bench, having kicked four for four on extra points.
They felt pretty good about themselves.
A couple of practice hit the field goal and win.
But now guys are missing PATs.
So now they go to the bench and it festers and it festers and it festers.
God, can I hit a 43 yard or I couldn't hit the PAT?
And you're seeing more headcases.
And it's always been a position.
Kickers have always been a little flighty, a little headcase.
get into streaks, they lose all their confidence.
So now you've seen these guys missing PATs, go back to the bench and sit there for 45
minutes.
I have seen more shanks, more bad kicks, more head cases.
We've never had a league full of 32 good field goal kickers.
They're not 32 great field goal kickers in the world.
The league's always got about 10 really good ones.
And another 10 that are okay.
And 10, you hide your eyes.
Now it feels like six great ones and everybody else to cross your fingers and close your eyes.
And it's because they extended the PAT and it's made the head case.
position in football, it's amplified it.
And these guys are just sitting around thinking all day.
And with that, we bring in Karan Butler, who played in the NBA for a decade and a half.
And the LeBron Laker thing, they're off to an 0-and-2 start.
It's not good.
So let's just talk for seven, eight minutes about this.
First of all, what you expected them to look like and what they look like, your takeaway.
Hey, listen, I thought that the pace of the Los Angeles Lakers was good.
You know, I thought the energy was great.
I thought that, you know, the shooting obviously could be addressed, could be better.
But I did see flashes of a lot of positives.
And what I mean by the flashes is I saw the intensity of guys that was supposed to be better two,
three years from now, be better now.
We had questions about Lonzo Ball.
Can he coales?
with LeBron playing off the basketball.
Can he make shots?
First game,
I agree.
Questionable.
Maybe he ought to be moved.
And then I saw the game
against the Rockets where he was making shots.
He had a different spring, a bounce to itself.
So I was like, okay, he can fit.
He can coexist with this group,
and that's exactly what they need from him specifically.
And Josh Hart fits like a glove.
Amazing.
Two-in player, playing defense, playing offense.
Kyle Kuzman plays off and one.
runs the floor.
So they have some intangibles, but it's a work in progress.
You're not just going to be good immediately.
You have to get accustomed to being a custom.
And what I mean by that, you got to get accustomed to playing with a talent like LeBron James.
It's going to take time.
LeBron, D. Wade, and Bosch took 17 games before they were a winning team.
And Love and Kyrie and LeBron took about 15 games, 20 games, before they figured it out.
And this team is not as talented as those.
The fight.
I mean, I've been watching the NBA so long.
We used to have these a lot more.
It's much more a cardio league.
It's much more a finesse league.
They're all rich now.
Everybody knows everybody.
Everybody's like sharing the same four agents.
Don't hit the moneymaker.
We're all doing well.
It used to be the pie in the NBA.
You just want a piece of the pie.
Now everybody gets a pie.
Everybody's rich.
Were you surprised by the fight?
I was.
But then again, I wasn't.
Because with LeBron being in the Western Conference
with the changeover, look at the Eastern Conference.
Every game means so much more because everyone feel like they have a realistic shot of taking over the east.
The paper favorite is obviously the Boston Celtics.
And then now you look at the Western Conference, every game matters more because two teams are going to possibly be removed out the Western Conference from playoff contention with LeBron coming to the West.
Denver Nuggets are playing exceptionally well.
They're in at some point throughout the marathon of this season.
And you look at the Lakers, they're going to be the story in.
headline all season long. We're talking about them now. So the Lakers are going to be extremely,
you know, in the midst of that playoff hunt and guys are amplified from an energy standpoint.
Like week one, I've never seen this much intensity in the NBA season the long as I've been
in the game. And I've been the game for a long time. I've been a fan forever. I've been playing
for over 14 years. I've never seen week one like this ever. That means more, the urgency, the intensity.
This is a bigger game.
It's a bigger stage.
Like, it's lights, camera action in the movie is rolling.
You know what I mean?
Like, it's a stage that every player wants to be on.
You can instantly become trending.
You know, that means a lot right now.
You know, you can become a meme instantly.
You know, all those things because you're playing on the biggest stage
with the biggest stars in the game every time you come to staple.
It's not just like one of those things where you're going to eat good,
enjoy the city, and play against the purple and go.
Now it's like, it's go time.
You know, it's all of nothing, and you can see that intensity.
So I wasn't surprised by seeing the altercation because there's so much,
and that's what happens when you're leaving it all on the line.
Yeah, it is interesting.
By the way, you know, you look around the NBA right now,
and it's a Monday, and I would generally never talk to the NBA,
but there was a fight.
It is LeBron.
They are 0-and-2.
One of the things about LeBron is, Chris Broussard has said this.
You know, mostly LeBron has been so gifted and talented.
He is the system.
but to win the West, LeBron can't be the system.
That system won't win the West.
Do you think LeBron's going to have a struggle having to give the ball up more and play off it?
Because I don't think the LeBron system, as he ages and enters the Western Conference,
the system's not going to work here.
Look, you have to be smart about the way that you use LeBron, you know, for the next four-year stretch.
You don't want to burn him out.
He is on, you know, the back end of his career.
No question.
and he still shows no signs of declining.
So with that being said,
you have to find ways to preserve him as much as possible.
That's why you got a guy that has a high basketball IQ
and a Ray John Rondo.
You have a guy like Lonzo Ball
who has to be all the things that we expect him to be,
live up to all of that.
He has to have the ball.
Brandon Ingram has to be that budding star,
the Robin to the Batman, like not next year, but now.
And then you still need that piece,
looking forward already.
You still need that joining piece to join that squad,
whether it's a Jimmy Butler, a disgruntled star,
somewhere to join that nucleus to make them or help them get over the hump.
Yeah, I was telling Doug Gottlieb earlier,
and I don't say this to bash the Lakers,
but if they were 9 and 14 after 25 games,
that's not a knock on him.
I just think that's the reality of young players,
veteran guys.
Rondo has never been great in the room long term,
although he creates intensity.
It's not like I think it's not going to work.
I think over four years this is going to work.
I think Magic and Rob Polenko know what they're doing.
But it's not just that LeBron's joining new players.
He has to create a little bit of a different LeBron.
And that's hard to do.
Man, guys in the NBA, if you had told Michael Jordan when he was still average
on 30 a game, we're going to need you to play a different way.
And I'm like, wait, I got the titles.
I'm the man.
So I think LeBron's going to have to do some soul searching here
because it's just a different roster.
I think you did a great job of laying that out.
And I think the Lakers organization and LeBron himself know that, look,
this is going to be a couple of year process.
We're not going to win this year, but we're going to compete.
And we're going to compete by all means.
And you saw that in that Houston game.
You saw that in Portland also.
No, no, no.
They were intense.
Yeah, it really was.
but it's not just going to happen overnight.
And I think that as fans specifically in the Lake Show land,
you cannot have sports rage.
We landed the well.
You got LeBron James.
He's the best player on the planet.
Now you have to go through the growing process.
It's going to be a process.
It's going to be high.
It's going to be lows.
It's going to be stretches where you're going to be like, wow.
It's going to be stretches where you're going to be like, what happened?
But it's a process.
By the way, Oklahoma City is after their worst start in 11 years.
I knew it was coming.
Well, I mean, did you see the games?
Westbrook can't do anything.
Oh, stop it.
Stop it.
I mean, seriously, you had that knee-scoped.
We're starting 11 years.
Oh, for three.
The West, I'll tell you, Utah and Denver.
How many games Russ are playing?
A couple.
The point is, this team is, I feel very wobbly early.
You don't think so?
Listen, I don't think so.
Those hyper-athletic point guards, they get that knee-scope third time.
Do he look like he's slowing down?
A long season.
He looked exhausted last year.
This is his first game, no preseason.
All right.
Just practices.
Come on now.
Stop it.
You know it inside.
You know it.
Come on now.
No, I'd be fine.
But I do.
I've always said this about the hyper athletic guard that can't shoot.
Iverson, Derek Rose, John Wall.
You have to score at the basket.
It means more collisions with bigs.
And after about 10,
11 years and a couple times you get your knee scoped, you're not quite the same guy.
You start kind of chasing points.
You've got to push a little more.
That's why, you know, the reality is in the NBA is you bigs, you got a DNA edge.
You bang on Biggs all night.
You're fine.
Those little guys, those Walls, those Westbrooks, those DeWades, not supposed to bang
into six foot nine guys that weigh 245.
We got to get out of here.
Hour three, Scott Zollick, former Patriot quarterback, and now the radio guy going to be
joining us Hour 3 in a Monday.
It's the heard.
Hour three live in Los Angeles.
This is the herd, wherever you may be and however you may be listening.
Iheart Radio, Fox Sports Radio and FS1, Joy Taylor, joining us.
By the way, I'll take the New York Giants and the points tonight.
That was one of my blazing five picks.
We already had a winning week.
We're three and one over the Atlanta Falcons.
I have a rule in the NFL.
So whenever I get my picks every week, the first thing I look at is find me a team that got humiliated the week
before. This is not college football.
The difference between
the great teams and the bad teams, I mean
Carolina and the New York Giants, yesterday
Carolina looks great at the end of the
game. They looked terrible for the first three quarters
and the New York Giants had Carolina
beat and they had the Houston Texans beat.
So watch the Giants tonight because
the world's caving in and everybody's telling them they're terrible.
Watch how well they play
tonight. I'll give you one next week.
So everybody's crushing Jacksonville.
Everybody is burying the
Jaguars. Watch them host.
the Philadelphia Eagles and watch the Jaguars play great next week at home against Philadelphia.
It's a game in London.
That's going to be a field goal game either way.
That's already the Vegas line is that in the NFL, it's the opposite of college football.
When a team wins or loses big, if a team gets crushed in college football, you're like,
they're bad and it gets worse.
If a team wins big, they don't get overconfident.
They got better players.
but in the NFL, it is so hard to win in this league.
I mean, the difference between if you take out,
you take the 28th team and the 8th team, it's one penalty.
I mean, look at the scores of the NFL game.
So watch the Giants play very well tonight or as well as they can play with Eli.
And I pick him to win.
And then a couple of weeks ago, Washington went down to New Orleans
and got humiliated on Monday night football.
And the Redskins looked awful and everybody buried them.
and they came back, you know, and they beat Carolina and they beat Dallas.
So go against your natural instincts in the NFL, which is to give up on teams.
No, race to teams that play like crap.
Jacksonville next week in London is going to give the Eagles everything they can handle.
And I like the giant tonight against Atlanta.
15 minutes from now, former Patriot quarterback, Scott Zolok, Zolak,
stops by our show to talk about the New England system that beats Chicago in a crazy game in
Chicago.
Well, let's start with this, though.
The Cowboys, how about them Cowboys?
Their comeback hit the upright, clang.
So let me start there.
Teams tend to take the personality often of their cities or their owner.
Every great Laker team has had some flash.
Showtime Lakers, Magic, Kobe, Corrin.
It's a city of stars.
Every great Laker team, even go back.
to Wilt and Jerry West and
Gail Goodrich. There's never been like a
bad boy's Lakers.
You know what I mean? Detroit's a tough city.
Detroit, they build cars.
Detroit teams are tough.
Every Detroit team that wins is tough.
How about
New England and Boston, 51
universities within the metro area of Boston?
The Patriots, Cerebral, the Celtic
cerebral, the Red Sox,
Evolvers, Adapters,
innovators in baseball, Golden State
Warriors.
Silicon Valley, progressive.
You tend to mirror your cities and you often mirror your owners, right?
And Dallas is an aggressive town.
I mean, Jerry Jones buys the team, fires the only coach they've ever had.
Goes and gets a college guy, aggressive.
Dallas is aggressive.
The state of Texas.
We do big things in Texas.
They're not worried about saving the red owl.
In Texas, they do big things.
They don't have regulations.
Dallas is an aggressive town.
Oil money.
Wheeling and Deals.
That's the city.
And Jerry is the most aggressive owner in the NFL.
But this football team, Jason Garrett, has got to be the most passive football team I've ever seen.
Dallas actually has a city slogan that says big things happen here.
I think they should change their slogan to, we play for ties here.
Dallas, what was that?
You got the most aggressive owner in a hyper-aggressive city and you become a passive football team.
I mean, whatever the opposite of gunslinger is,
how about traffic cop?
Brett Farb is a gunslinger, Jason Garrett's a traffic stop.
Watch your way, walk slowly, look both ways, don't get in trouble.
What's going on here?
Yet over a minute left, Alex Smith did your favor, stepped out of bounds,
saved you time out, over a minute, have DAC, got good field position.
You were playing for a tie.
12 seconds left, you never made a shot at the end zone.
I mean, you keep telling me like Dak, but you're not showing me that with your actions.
When I watch Dallas play, people say a lot.
I don't do this.
I do do this.
You know what I look at?
Actions.
That's what I care about.
What do you do, not what you say?
Jason Garrett keeps telling me he loves Dak.
Jerry Jones, I love Dak.
I watch you play late.
You don't love Dak.
You don't trust Dak.
Jason Garrett's a traffic cop.
Dak, look left, look right, walk slowly, slow down, go back to the curb.
Dak, do.
Oh, he,
Ha.
New England goes for it.
Philadelphia, I got my issues, but Carson Wentz, they go for it.
Carolina yesterday, we go for it.
You can tell me how much you like Dak, but I'm watching your actions.
The most aggressive owner and the most aggressive city in the NFL.
But, I mean, you're playing for ties here.
And by the way, Tony Romo, whenever Tony Romo does cowboy games,
it's not a good look for Dak Prescott because Tony Romo knows the truth.
This is the same playbook.
This is the same playbook.
So when Dallas pulls out a play,
he knows where the play should go.
From the pocketball tipped and incomplete.
Well, this one, Dax's got to pull the trigger.
Watch Beasley on a slant.
Right there.
That's a big play.
And he's the number one option on that play.
And he just hesitated and went back to Swam.
Yeah.
Jason Garrett's
not to go for a guy, Dag doesn't want to throw the ball down the field.
Aggressive Jimmy Johnson.
aggressive Barry Switzer, aggressive Jerry Jones, aggressive Bill Parcells.
I mean, this is a passive, look both ways, no risk, drop it off underneath offense.
And you're not beating the Rams and you're not going to beat the Eagles and you're not going to beat the Vikings
and you're not going to beat the Saints.
And this weekend, you're not going to beat Carolina that way.
And stop telling me you trust Love, Dak, because I don't see it.
You're saying it, but I don't see it.
You know, there were really a lot of great games.
Baltimore and New Orleans.
I still love both teams.
I mean, to me, the Ravens and the Saints are potential Super Bowl teams.
Just because you lose in this league doesn't mean I'm out on you.
Okay.
I watched the Ravens yesterday and the Saints.
I still love both teams.
Again, that's just two great teams.
It's a coin flip.
If you told me the Saints and the Ravens end up in the Super Bowl, would not be shocked.
I said before the season, Ravens, my Dark Horse Super Bowl team,
watch them after Thanksgiving when they get these rookie tight ends and these receivers in place.
I really like Baltimore.
I thought they outplayed New Orleans for a big chunk of the game.
By the way, I watched Philadelphia and Carolina.
I like both teams here.
I like both teams.
But when you win the Super Bowl and you're an organization that hasn't won a lot of Super Bowls,
as in none, and you win one, you've got a lot of people grabbing at you.
And this is what I said.
New England has won so many Super Bowls.
And that city between the Celtics and the Bruins and the Red Sox and the Patriots,
there's a lot of championships in Boston.
So when you win it, it's expected.
And it's not like it's anything new.
But when Philadelphia won a Super Bowl or that one world series or the Iverson team gets to the finals,
the city goes crazy.
And it is harder to keep your focus.
I'm not blaming anybody.
But when I watch the Eagles, Carson Wentz, they won a Super Bowl without Carson Wentz, without Jordan Hicks, without Jason Peters.
And there is this sense in the room, nobody says it.
It's like, we won without those guys.
Maybe you don't work out quite as long, quite as hard.
Just the details aren't as tight yet with the Eagles.
And James Harrison, who won a couple of Super Bowls with the Steelers, talked about the hangover.
he faced it and dealt with it twice.
They're not the same as last year.
Like you said, you know, it's a difference between being the underdog.
You got something that you're trying to get, you know, you're getting off your check.
You're trying to prove someone wrong.
Now you're the measuring stick.
You're the team that everybody is going to measure themselves against.
They probably didn't get started to OTAs.
You know, guys are celebrating.
You got, you know, so many engagements that everybody wants to see the Super Bowl champion at.
We had the same thing in 2005 and 2008.
Those two years, we didn't even make the playoffs.
after that. Now, the year that we went in 2010 and lost to Green Bay, we made the playoffs that
next year. Why? Because we lost. We had something to prove. It's a real thing. I like Philadelphia
a lot. And I was told this a decade ago by somebody in the NFL. If you've got an A owner, an A GM,
an A coach, and an A quarterback, you're a Super Bowl contender every year. And the Eagles have all
of that. I love, Lori's a good owner. Howie Rosen's a great GM. Doug Peterson's a really good
coach and Carson Wentz is terrific.
So they have all that.
But with all that,
never forget this.
Six of their seven games this year, one possession,
nine of their last
11 games won possession. That Super Bowl
with Brady and that home
playoff game with Atlanta,
both came down to
one play. That's why when Belichick
says no days off, everybody rolls
their eyes, that's the reality
of the NFL. You are winning
and losing games on a
flag. When Belichick did that, everybody just mocked Bill Belichick for saying this, remember?
No days on. So again, you laugh at that, but in college football, if you win in February
in recruiting, then you win 80% of your games. In the NFL, the best teams get the worst draft
picks. So you actually get punished in the NFL. Oh, you won, you get a lousy draft pick.
and no days off, you can roll your eyes at it,
but if you want days off, coach college.
In college, you win a national title,
you get an even better recruiting class.
Kentucky, Duke wins a national title.
You get even more good players.
In the NFL, you get worse ones, worst draft picks.
Teams don't want to trade with you.
Nobody wants to do trades with the Super Bowl champs.
I don't want to get embarrassed.
That's why Belichick has to keep going to the Browns
to make trades and the bills.
Coming up next to former Patriot joining us talking about what was a wild game in Chicago.
I got to tell you, bears lost, there is a lot to like about the Chicago Bears.
That's next. It's the herd.
One more herd. The herd streams 24 hours a day, seven days a week within the IHeart radio app.
Search herd to listen live or on demand whenever you'd like.
Sometimes I hear what people are saying and I just don't get it.
Like these people that are critical of Andrew Luck, Andrew Luck is second in the NFL and
touchdown passes. Outside of T.Y. Hilton, who's healthy about every other week, he's got nothing
to work with. I mean, I know the GM of the Coles. They know they got to get Andrew Luck more weapons.
And they've done a good job to draft that offensive line. Offensive line finally looks like it
somewhat settled here. They've done a good job on that. Still needs more work. But that defense is
young. They got 18 guys every week on the IR. How Andrew Luck is second in the NFL. Oh, Patrick
Mahomes. Patrick Mahomes has Andy Reid.
veteran coach. Tyreek Hill,
Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelsey,
and a defense that gives them the ballback
a lot, because they, you know,
can't stop anybody. So, I mean,
you look at Kansas City, of course.
You look at the Rams. You look at the Saints.
You can see teams that are scoring and you go, well,
of course they're scoring. Of course the Saints are
scoring. Of course Atlanta can score.
Of course, you know, Kansas City.
You look at the Chargers.
Melvin Gordon didn't play, but you have
Philip Rivers. You have three good receivers.
I mean, they got players.
I mean, they got players with the L.A. Chargers and the Rams.
But how Andrew Luck is second in the NFL in touchdown passes,
why are you still doubting him?
Why doesn't everybody get how good this kid is?
God, just when they get him some weapons, I'll say it again.
I'm not a big believer in paying running back 16 million a year.
Lavian bell to the Colts makes a lot of sense.
he doesn't get hurt.
You can get 200 carries.
You can get 75 catches.
Man, you put Lavian Bell with a Colton, Andrew Luck.
He's going to set records.
He will have a record-setting season.
The other thing I noticed this weekend is, listen, some of these teams,
Kansas City is a blast to watch.
New Orleans is a blast to watch.
And the Rams are a blast to watch.
And everybody is up there in their bikinis with their abs on their paddle boards,
and they're playing beach volleyball, and they're splashing around.
But you know what's on.
underneath the surface. You know what's underneath the surface. All those teams are going to need
a bigger boat because I'm watching New England. 38 points, 38 points, 43 points, 38 points. And you can
see that fin coming out of the water and it's got a 12 on it. Here we go again in October. No
gronk, no problem. Sony Michelle Hurt, no problem. In Chicago, no problem. In Chicago, no problem.
Bears dominating defense, no problem.
And I'll say another thing.
Josh Gordon for New England.
And again, I'm wrong on this so far.
I said, don't count on him.
People tell you who they are, believe them.
But if the Josh Gordon thing works,
there is no question.
This is a dimension that Tom Brady has not had since Randy Moss.
Tom's always had the backs.
Tom's always had a good old line.
Tom's always had a good tight end.
Tom's had good slot receivers.
But if Josh Gordon can be a go-to dynamic threat that can make people mistackles,
watch out.
By the way, my staff disagrees with me.
Can we show the Hail Mary play sound up?
Here's how the Patriots.
Here's the Hail Mary play.
I think this is brilliantly defended.
They almost goaded into catching it.
Watch this.
Look over all the Patriots are.
Look how smart that is defended.
Look at this.
They're all right behind him.
Even in the Hail Mary, they're organized.
Colin, the only way that could have been worse was if he actually scored a touchdown.
That's not a good defense would have been like not letting him catch the ball.
No, if you get too consumed with that, you tip the ball in the air.
You can give a guy a catch.
Look at where they're all situated on the Hail Mary.
They're all ready to tackle him.
surrounding him. If you start
worried about the catch, you're going to get
out of position. They didn't even go
for the catch. They wanted to keep
him out of the end zone. You do know
that if he doesn't catch it, it would be impossible
for him to score a touchdown, right?
If he did a few more
leg lifts, he might have pushed his way
in. Joy Taylor with the news.
Turn on the news.
This is the herd line
news. All right, Colin, the revolving door
of teams behind Alabama and the AP
poll continued this week. Clemson is the latest team to earn the number two spot in the
rankings. And Ohio State's stunning 29 point loss against Purdue knocked them down nine
spots from two to number 11. Let me see. So it's Bama 1, Clemson 2, Notre Dame 3. I don't
disagree with any of this. I don't disagree with any of that. That looks about right.
I will say this. I'm going to throw this out there. Harbaugh's not going anywhere.
I don't have this sourced.
I talk to somebody who I trust, and he proposed this idea to me this weekend.
He said, don't be shocked if Urban Meyer is not at Ohio State next year, not because of this loss.
Headaches, health issues before.
Remember he had health issues before, and then he stepped away from Florida.
We're hearing a lot about health issues this year and headaches and migraines and this sort of stuff.
Something's not quite right at Ohio State right now.
It's just not, you don't go to Purdue and lose like that.
And he would replace him?
I don't know.
The guy at Iowa State right now is from Ohio.
His name, the young coach at Iowa State is really good.
He's an Ohio kid.
Matt Campbell.
Matt Campbell.
Yeah, Matt Campbell at Iowa State would be the guy I'd probably look at.
But I mean, that is Ohio State is not right right now.
They're winning because they have better players.
Right.
But out.
And it's just, it's not as tight as it was three years ago.
There's something missing.
I think Urban is getting, you know, Urban likes to run the offense, but he likes to give his assistance, you know, power.
I don't think he always loves the play calling in this current coaching staff.
It's just somebody floated it this weekend.
They said, don't be shocked if Urban's not there next year.
And they said it matter of factly, and they're a very tight in person.
And I was like, I wouldn't be shocked either.
Hmm, I don't think about.
So after the Brown's grim offensive performance during overtime and their loss to the bucks,
Hugh Jackson was a little irritated and he isn't ruling out.
Taking the play calling back from offensive coordinator, Todd Haley.
Being a head coach and ain't an offensive guy who's done this,
I think I have every right as a head coach to jump in here and see if I can help.
I feel like I have to, and I want to.
You know, that's what I know.
So I'm not going to continue to watch something that I know how to do.
Keep being that way.
That's just the truth.
I'm the head coach of the football team, period.
Period.
Keep saying that.
That's not easy to be said.
Nothing.
Oh, God.
Too much.
It's the way it works.
I'm the head coach of the football team.
You don't need to keep saying that.
I'm the cocked now.
Jason Whitlock always calls him hubris Jackson because of his...
It's like...
There's something...
That's like walking into a house and something.
saying, I am the husband of this family.
Yeah, we know that.
You don't need to keep announcing it publicly.
It feels like an insecurity that when you constantly have to say something that is blatantly obvious.
Nobody is questioning, nobody asks that.
Nobody is questioning whether you're the head coach of the football team.
We're very aware of your title and the authority that comes with it.
And like you said, he said it during Hard Knocks 2.
And it's like, we know that you have the final say on everything.
But a good leader hires great people and then allow.
them to do their job.
And throwing your offensive coordinator under the bus is not,
first of all, it's not instilling any favor with him with the team
or any confidence in Todd Haley moving forward if the team's already frustrated.
And second, you made it clear to Todd Haley that he had that power.
Now of a sudden you're taking it back.
How did you expect to start?
You're already drastically improved from last year,
which, by the way, you were the offensive coordinator.
Do you remember that?
Remember how great Hugh Jackson's first couple years in Cleveland went?
Yeah.
What was it like 600 days before they won a game?
Yeah.
So maybe you meddling in the offense wasn't a dismal.
When everybody keeps telling me Baker's playing great,
Cleveland's defense leads the NFL and takeaways.
They gave Baker on that offense four turnovers against an atrocious defense.
That's as bad a defense as the league has,
and they had 126 yards in three quarters.
And I'm not even putting this all on Baker either.
I mean, what do we talk about Jared Gough in his first year?
Sam Darnold.
Like, you're going to have ups and downs.
And on top of that, and on top of that,
you're dealing with insane dysfunction with the organization.
Finally, another coach that's not having it right now.
We talked about the Eagles all morning.
Well, Doug Peterson was not having it.
He was asked about running the ball.
And why the Eagles don't commit to running the ball late in games?
Well, I mean, now you're getting into game plan stuff,
and you're getting into scheme.
And you guys aren't in there watching the tape like we are for, you know,
18 hours a day and putting the game plans together.
And it's easy to sit in a press box and say, hey, hey, they should run the ball.
Come down and stand on the sideline with me and make decisions.
You know, I should run it here.
I should pass it here.
Let's throw a screen here.
Let's get the quarterback out of the pocket right here.
Oh, no, there's 15 seconds left on the clock.
I mean, so, you know, until you're down there with me on the sideline making in-game decisions,
then, you know, I guess you can ask all you want.
You know, by the way, I support them on this.
The media, 90% of guys in the media aren't even athletes.
So forget, they don't even work out.
But this is one thing, but the media is over their skis.
Not a single media member do I know that could diagram a single football play.
You can rip a coach all day.
Here's the other thing.
You don't know who's healthy on that sideline.
What sets you can use.
During a football game, you'll literally have a tight end be like, out.
And I can't run a play I practice.
when I criticize Dallas about play calling, it is not an individual play.
It is a, you're really passive on this series.
But when media people start banging on coaches for individual play calls, they don't know what they're talking about.
They don't.
You weren't in a film room all week.
Yes, I agree with you.
We're not sitting in the film rooms with them.
And I have not played professional football, neither of you.
Right.
But that's not the approach.
So then what is an appropriate?
thing to ask. They didn't ask them about a particular play.
They said, why don't you commit to running the ball late in games?
There's a very simple answer for this. The answer of,
oh, you guys don't watch film and you're not on the sidelines
with me. Yeah, no, we're not.
There's 10,000 other questions
that would be discredited. But if somebody's banging
on you for 15, 25 minutes, and they're ripping you all week
and they come up and say, well, how come you didn't run the play there?
I always had a rule with football coaches.
I can ask you about the morale in your locker room.
I can ask you about, like, like,
situationally, like field goal touchdown.
But when people start banging on film,
I've talked to so many football coaches about this
through the years.
They're like half the time you practice something all week,
and all of a sudden your tight end gets hurt,
and you don't trust your backup tight end,
so you simply can't run a play that you designed all week.
I mean, then that's the answer.
Like, you don't have to reveal people's injuries or anything,
but just say, like, the running game wasn't the appropriate strategy
at that point in the game.
Move on.
You want to step their fifth or 15, 20 minutes,
when everything is good.
You got to set up for there for 15, 20 minutes when everything is bad.
That's how it works.
You win the Super Bowl.
You write a book.
You obviously like to talk.
I'm just saying, I'm not getting into the whole media coach thing here.
I'm just saying, like, it's not an inappropriate or wild question to ask why they didn't
commit to the running game late in the game, if that's what's been working for you all game.
But wouldn't they if they started passing the ball and throwing, like, here's my point,
if they committed to the running game and couldn't run it because Carolina was playing better
defense and more aggressive to get the ball back.
Then the same reporter would go,
I mean, all you did is run running
plays. You have to at some
point trust
the 72 hours of
film study by a Super Bowl winning coach
going into the week. I've heard
guys question Bellatex play
calling and I'm like... Yeah, what does he say?
But you wonder why
these coaches stop talking to the press.
There's a lot of questions you can
ask people, but God, play calling
wears me out. It just wears
I like Bill Simmons, that he used to eat coaches alive in the NBA about individual plays.
And I'm like, you do get, when you have star players, they don't even listen to that play.
Like the huddle breaks, and they're like, dude, you get here, they get players just, you know, there's a defense out.
I get it.
I'm just saying, like, have that same enthusiasm when you're winning and when you're losing.
Well, that's never going to be, you know.
Well, Lynn, I can't feel happy.
It's easy to answer the easy questions.
Hey, you're great.
Tell me more.
Those are easy.
Joy Taylor, the News.
Well, that's the news.
And thanks for stopping by.
The Heard Lye News.
By the way, there was a fight over the weekend.
It didn't involve Connor McGregor.
It actually involved the Lakers.
And it was really off-brand.
Joy was at the game.
And you had Brandon Ingram, you had Chris Paul, and you had Rondo.
I mean, listen, I see spitting.
I see finger-pointing.
To me, Rondo spit.
And then Chris Paul, once you spit in the guy's face, he's going to punch back.
I don't like the spit.
And so, like, and Rondo has a history of that kind of
stuff. So to me, it's on Rondo, and Brandon Ingram came in and threw a haymaker. I didn't like
that at all. To me, Chris Paul had a right. Once you spit in my face, all bets are off. And I don't
like what Chris Paul did, but if you start watching Rondo, we've got very good video of it. He's
spit in his face. I'm not a fan of that at all. And you do have a right to defend yourself.
And again, you can blame whoever you want. Rondo's got a history of getting into these scraps.
this is this is the TV Rondo Rondo's got a reputation in the league when the game's on TV or it's a really big game
Rondo ratchets up the intensity and then he takes Tuesday night in Milwaukee off that's why coaches he wears out coaching he's always good in the playoffs he's always good on the TBS game he's going to be good in this game and he gets really intense and he's not a highly skilled player in terms of shooting so his strength is to arm Russell his strength is to get in your head his strength is to clutch and grab and so I blame Rondo for
for that. And I just think that's who he is. And it was a big TV game and it was a everybody's
talking about it game. And so Rondo's going to do what Rondo does because Rondo can't beat Chris
Paul in skill. He can't beat Hardin, Steph Curry in skill. So Rondo has to go arm wrestling. And this is
what he does and he starts the fight. And so to me it's on Rondo with a spit. Doug Gottlieb talked
about it earlier. And he actually sees this as a huge opportunity for the Lakers.
I actually think he fits better with LeBron than Rondo does.
Because Rondo's a non-shooter, but a non-shooter that either has the basketball and wants to make the pass for the shot,
or you put him below the rim in what's called the ghost position where he can catch.
He's a much better finisher than Lanzo is.
But Lanzo plays at a great pace.
The ball gets up the court, and he has no problem deferring and getting the ball to LeBron James.
I actually think those two work together better, but we'll see this is Lanzo Ball's chance.
to retake that position.
Yeah, he's basically talking about, he thinks, you know, LeBron and Lonzo,
Lonzo's got an opportunity here because Rondo is out, which we'll see.
I don't know how the Lonzo.
LeBron thing's going to work out.
But, you know, I look at this fight.
It's really funny.
The media now hyperventilates about everything.
I mean, Trump will come out with a tweet and the media will just go man overboard for seven days.
Go YouTube NBA fights in the 70s.
There are a thousand times worse than this.
I don't think that anyone, even the NBA, I don't think really reacted that strongly to it because the suspensions are not as crazy as I thought they would be.
I mean, this isn't the end of the world.
It's just that there's, you know, with social media and you watch the replays 10,000 times, and there's this angle and that angle.
So it's going to get, it's going to get blown up.
Plus, it's the NBA, you know, and the Lakers and it's LeBron.
But this is what the Lakers are going to be, folks, because they don't have shooters.
And remember, Magic knows they don't have shooters.
LeBron knows they don't have shooters.
So when LeBron came here and signed, it wasn't long after they signed Beasley,
Rondo and Jabel McGee. They're scrappy players. So this is what the Lakers are going to be.
A scrappy team that gets in fights that's not highly skilled that's going to have to push, pull,
and arm wrestle and leg kick to win games. That's what they're going to have to do.
You know, some teams like Golden State can sleepwalk for three quarters and then dial up threes
and Houston can do some of that. This is how the Lakers are going to win 46 games.
Play fast, play hard. Now they got 10 guys on this team that can play a little bit.
Most rosters have about eight.
Lakers have 10 so they can play.
Their theory in L.A. is play fast,
wear teams out, be scrappy.
We got a lot of fouls to give.
You know, our backups are outside of LeBron.
Our backups are just about as good as our starters.
So this is what they're going to be.
Kuzma and Lonzo are starting for Ingram and Rondo tonight versus San Antonio.
And that's not a huge drop-off.
It really isn't.
I mean, Lanzo and Kuzma is not as good as Rondo and Ingram,
but it's not miles apart.
It's not like when the Celtics go from
Kyrie Irving and Tatum
to their bench or the Warriors
go Steph and Durant to their
bench. The Lakers bench is about
85% of their starting five.
Coming up, an important public service
announcement about the National Football
League in Best for Last.
It all comes down to this
as the World Series begins tomorrow on Fox.
Mani Machado and the Dodgers take on
Mokey Beds and the Red Sox. Game one of the
fall classic tomorrow starting at 7th
30 Eastern on Fox and the Fox Sports
Hat. This is the best
world series. You get, you know, listen,
Fenway Park, nothing against
Miller Park in Milwaukee. If the Packers
had a chance to get to the Super Bowl, I would
choose them over a lot of
teams I'm not interested in
the NFL. Listen, this is the way baseball
needs to end with the historic parks, historic
franchises, and
you got all the stars. I mean, Mookie Betts,
J.D. Martinez, Chris Sale, David
Price, and Yassie O'Reilly,
Clayton Kershaw, Cody Bellinger, Justin Turner,
Mani Machado.
You've got controversy with Mani Machado.
So this is what it's all about.
There was a great play by Chris Taylor of the Dodgers,
who's a terrific, terrific player, made the catch of the year,
sixth inning.
Brewers got a man on, they trailed.
It was one of the great baseball catches in the history of the sport
that I recall here it was.
In the air to left, into the gap.
with a run-saving catch and who knows how much more.
Got a great jump, ran a mile, and used every inch of that leather.
What a play.
Yeah, and it's, again, it's the brewers are very analytic driven.
You know, they go to their bullpen in the third inning.
And I, you know, I was talking to Daryl Morey, the Rockets GM and analytics guy.
And we've talked a lot about this.
I like analytics.
I get analytics.
I am mostly in favor 70, 60% of analytics,
but I call it man analytics.
If you start pocket protectors have a place.
It's not in professional sports.
You've got to listen to pro athletes.
You've got to feel a room.
There's a certain vibe.
Don't overthink the room.
Best players, biggest spots, as John Smolt says,
get runners on base.
A lot of these analytics in baseball work over 162 game schedule,
but situationally,
In one game, they don't make as much sense.
And, you know, that's the thing about analytics.
Analytics are basically averages.
When you have an 82-game NBA season or you have 162-game baseball season, those analytics over time do work out.
But I'm telling you, as John Smolt says, put the ball in play, crazy stuff happens.
And that's why in the NFL you don't see as much analytics because you only have 16 games.
And analytics absolutely make sense over time.
You know, there's a certain way to run a family.
But sometimes in the moment running a family, you've got to get stuff done.
And Milwaukee is so much about analytics, it wears me out.
Like, I just want to see great players make great plays.
I'm sure Pueg is a terrible analytics player.
I don't have it in front of me.
He's probably a terrible analytics player.
But Yassiel Pueg has so much energy and so much.
much juice for that franchise.
You can just, you can feel it.
I mean, yeah, I mean, there's no question that Pueg is the emotional go-to guy.
And I mean, he's probably a terrible analytics guy.
Mani Machado doesn't run hard to first base, but I'm telling you what,
Mani Machado was big in game seven.
Okay, so, you know, I, I can only take so much at Craig counsel going to the mound.
I can't, wears me out.
I'm a viewer.
I want to be entertained.
You know, like at the Oscars, sound mix.
They don't show that winner.
Best movie, best actress, best actor, best supporting actor.
They don't go to editing and sound mixing much.
It's a television show.
Sorry, baseball.
It makes all of its money off television.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, there's a reason the Oscars, and that runs too long,
doesn't show you a lot of the people behind the scenes.
These are sports.
And everything the NFL does is to make the games more interesting on television.
The NBA has changed rules to make it more interesting.
on television. Some of these baseball
people are so into analytics. It's not good
television. And Bill James is arguing
this. It's not good.
Stars Fenway Park
are good. By the way, let's go
to Best for Last. After almost
three hours, Colin apparently hasn't
gotten to the point yet. Quit
holding out on us, Cowherd. It's the
best for last. So we had three
quarterbacks on display yesterday.
And I don't like to pick on anybody,
but Andy Dalton, Blake Bortles
and Marcus Marriota.
and Eli tonight will probably give you a little bit of this
where they didn't deliver in a big spot.
Now, I do think the Giants will play well tonight,
but I said last year,
Eli's been showing you for the last three years in big spots.
He's not great.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me 29 times.
Shame on me.
These NFL teams, if you want to solve a problem,
actually in life, if you want to solve a problem,
the key is admitting you have a problem.
You're not going to solve it if you're defensive.
or if you're delusional.
And unless you have a rookie quarterback,
and, you know, rookies, Baker, Sam, Josh,
they're all going to be roller coasters.
Some have better players than others, but they're rookies.
But if you've been in this league for three full years in 2018 with all these rules,
and you're giving me a different player each week, you're not the guy.
Like, I'm critical of Matt Ryan and Matt Stafford.
Okay, I think they're really talented.
But I'll say this about Matt Ryan of the Falcons and Matt Stafford of the Lions.
And I don't have the numbers in front of me.
Four out of five games, you get the same D plus quarterback.
They don't have a lot of stinkers.
Doesn't mean they win all the big games.
They don't give you a ton of stinkers.
Dalton's now 3 and 12 against the Steelers, 0 for 6 on Sunday night football.
And there's an epidemic now, and it's affecting me because I'm a consumer.
NFL teams are unable to admit they have a quarterback problem.
And so we're offering some help.
It's an epidemic in the NFL.
Delusional coaches and fans supporting quarterbacks who let them down time and time again.
If this sounds like you, you might have a quarterback problem.
People who suffer from this problem can be seen muttering incoherent phrases like,
he just needs more protection.
He was really good in the first quarter of that game three years ago against the Browns.
He won two Super Bowls.
And I think we can win with Brock Osweiler.
Brock Oswai.
There is help. Call 1-800 meet a QB and we'll connect your team to a quarterback who actually knows how to win games and doesn't have red hair.
Please, call now.
We just feel like it's an epidemic and we want to save lives.
It's very thoughtful.
You know, you were in Miami with Ryan Tannehill and so you have lived through this epidemic.
Oh, I've lived through much longer than Ryan Tannahill.
But I mean, with Tannahill...
He's a guy that the team backs up, the organization backs up.
Publicly.
Yeah, publicly.
Fans to a certain degree.
I mean, they're pretty split on Ryan Tannahill being the guy or not.
But, yeah, that's a very good example.
It's the Ryan Tannahill era with the Miami Dolphins.
I mean, there's not that many.
I mean, of the guys off, we have Russell Wilson's on our show tomorrow.
He's Seahawk quarterback.
He's a franchise quarterback.
The good ones are really.
obvious. And the key is, and I was told this years ago when Tebow won six straight games,
is that I was talking to a GM, he goes, listen, there's been a lot of bad quarterbacks
that have won a division. Their team's healthy. It's a bad division. They have a great defense.
They win a series of kicking game, 1714. Tim Tebow is all you need to know in this league won
six straight games, because Matt Prater was a great kicker, and their defense was great.
And they had a series of games against bad quarterbacks with, but when they played Brady twice,
They got blown out twice.
Here's the key to a franchise quarterback.
It's not a winning streak.
Can your guy, when the defense invariably goes into the tank, in some year it will,
you'll have injuries, the wrong coordinator, it just won't have personnel.
Can you win seven of eight in shootouts?
Drew Breeze can, Rogers can, Brady can, Andrew Luck can,
Russell Wilson, Shoney can, Carson Wentz can.
There's not many of these guys.
you think there's a lot of them.
And so when people fall into, well, we won six straight games, how'd you win them?
Is it sustainable?
You think about the word with quarterbacks, sustainable.
When Tim Tebow was winning 14, 13, that's not sustainable because at some point you're going to have to beat Brady in a shootout, big Ben in a shootout, and you're not going to have a great defense.
If you look at Tom Brady, the only unit on his team, a.
all the units, special teams, corners, the secondary, front seven, receiving, running back.
The only unit that has generally been consistently good has been the offensive line.
That's because they have a legendary coach, last name, Skarnakia, and their offensive line
has never been the best in the league.
But it's always been somewhere like fourth to eighth, fourth to tenth.
It's never been the one we talk about.
But that's it.
Brady has had to deal with bad secondaries and no pass rush.
No receivers.
No receivers.
And anemic running backs and special teams that weren't ideal.
To be great, same with Drew Brees.
Carson Wentz this year.
They're running back situations a mess.
Andrew Luck this year.
They don't have any weapons outside.
So it's not just about winning games.
Is it a sustainable way to win?
That's why when I watch Marcus Marietta,
it's got to be perfect for him to win.
Andy Dalton, he has to have a great defense and great running games.
That's not sustainable.
So to me, you're not a franchise quarterback.
Tanny Hill needs every,
Tanyhill needs the right coach, the right running game,
and the right protection, or he's 6 and 10.
So that, to me, is not a franchise quarterback.

Some surprises near the top. A couple teams were impressive, even in losses. And for our TV audience,
speak for yourself is right around the corner. Last night, a blown call changed a game. This morning,
the internet lost its mind. And nobody's telling you,
